Butler, Jokic lead Heat, Nuggets into a NBA Finals after unconventional paths

"This is the first time the nuggets have ever played in the NBA Finals. And the team's first time in a final series since the last year of the ABA in 1976, that means the dearth of experience for nuggets players this deep into a season. One Denver player with finals experience is kentavious Caldwell Pope, who was on the Lakers 2020 title team. Just trying to keep him calm knowing that and the first couple of possessions are going to be a lot even for myself, you know, I'm feeling anxious right now I'd even get out there. The nuggets have rest on their side, having polished off the Lakers last Monday in a four game sweep. The heat will have had two days off since winning game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. James B. Comey: FBI Did Nothing Wrong in Trump Investigation

"Okay. Okay. Okay. Dan, you have ADHD. I know it's a problem. I get it. I know. I want you to listen to Comey's clip here, it was this pseudo fake apology. And then when asked at the end, he's like, Oh yeah, but I don't really think the FBI liked anything wrong. This is an agency full of like, integrity and fidelity and bravery. They were just caught making up and completely fabricating a case to spy on the listen to this. Check this out as for the Durham report, 300 pages, four years investigating the investigators. One of the things that did come out of it was that procedures, regular FBI procedures were ignored, that steps were missed along the way in this investigation. In fact, director Ray said when the report came out, yeah, we acknowledge that a couple of ago, years and we've changed all that, those changes are already in place. Do you acknowledge perhaps that some mistakes were made along the way? Oh, definitely. And they were found four years ago by the inspector general. So there's nothing new in this new document. What were some of those mistakes from your point of view? Oh, that the FBI didn't communicate clearly the status of certain sources. They double checked certain information before putting it in a court application for a foreign intelligence wiretap and a bunch of others. And so do you believe now as these, some of these politicians call for defunding of the FBI, that that has been corrected and that now the procedures are in place to avoid those kinds of mistakes in the future? I think so. But in complex investigations, there's always going to mistakes. be It doesn't mean the FBI is incompetent, honest, and independent. So director with some distance now from from your time there with that investigation and everything that came into that 2016 election. Are there things that you wish you had done differently? Oh, plenty. I mean, plenty of

Gregg Jarrett: Previewing New Book 'The Trial of the Century'

"The trial of the century what is the trial of the century Which one You know there have been a lot of famous trials that have been dubbed as such by the media over the years The Nuremberg case Julius Ethel Rosenberg the O. J. Simpson double murder case which I covered for 9 months in Los Angeles They pale in comparison to the 1925 scopes monkey trial Because it stake was our cherished free speech rights America was at the precipice there was an effort and it was succeeding to ban books for example on evolution and they weren't going to stop there They were going to ban a variety of science books and other books And in the state of Tennessee they made it a crime for a teacher to teach out of the state approved textbooks a chapter on the cornerstone Darwin theory of evolution Because they feared it would undermine the story of the divine creation in genesis in the Bible Which it didn't Their harmonious and Clarence Darrow was incensed over it So when a young 25 year old school teacher was handcuffed criminally charged in front of the host gal Darrow came to the rescue the greatest trial lawyer who ever lived And he for free descended John scopes It became known as the scopes monkey trial which was derived from an evolutionary misconception that humans evolved from monkeys or other primates I traveled a couple of years ago to the courthouse in Dayton Tennessee where the trial took place It's closed now but buried in the archives of the basement and I gained access was the original trial transcript

Brett Tolman: The Real Authority of U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves

"Want you to listen to this We can do it here We have multiple platforms Want you to listen to this This is Brett tolman who was a U.S. attorney in Utah really really top lawyer And he's very soft spoken so check it out Cut 22 go But you make a very good point The us attorneys nominated by the president not the attorney general and confirmed by the Senate They are presidential appointees and they serve at the pleasure of the president So despite what the practices may be the last couple of decades you're making the point It's a very important point that the U.S. attorney in Washington D.C. I believe his name is graves That he has his own authority to act that he doesn't have to sit around and worry about what the criminal division of the public integrity section or the U.S. attorney's office or the attorney general or anybody else has to say to open an investigation at a minimum and to bring an indictment correct That's exactly right He has all that authority and I'll tell you something else that I've learned relative to this The outgoing U.S. attorney at the time of January 6th Had identified a very small number of individuals that should be prosecuted And had indicated to DoJ that that was his intention They forced him out because he did not have the same vision that they did in terms of what they would turn the January 6th prosecution into And so I think about that and who they put in in their place and it is someone that will toe the line and follow what Washington D.C. wants And that is the greatest injustice we have because now we see that they will do make decisions and use their power to based on politics rather than based on the facts and the evidence which would result in a lot of people being prosecuted and put in jail including the Biden family

Morton Klein: Biden Is Coupling Antisemitism With Other Phobias

"In addition to more than watering down the definition including a definition that's dangerous and frightening that will protect major Jew haters in Congress officials in the world and on campuses It protects them now You can't call them anti semitic according to what Biden is embracing In addition in the same sentence when he condemns anti semitism that Biden in this report condemns islamophobia homophobia transphobia misogyny In other words he makes antisemitism no longer unique by coupling it combining it with these other phobias and these other groups don't have nearly the amount of dangerous hate speech and attacks as the Jews do 63% of all hate attacks in America according to religion 63% against Jews not against Muslims or Christians or any of these other groups So he's really watered down a terrible way And let me tell you something else dangerous here I must say Mark He once hate speech to be abolished This is very dangerous Of course we're all against hate speech No one should use it But how will he be defining hate speech Here says we have to abolish hate speech That means if I attack Lewis farrakhan is that hate speech Will they say that means I'm a racist by attacked the radical group Black Lives Matter Is that racist If I attack Iran or radical Islam is that racist It's very dangerous what he put in this report by wanting to abolish all hate speech which means that if anyone's idea of how they will define it and this is really another dangerous aspect of this whole report

The Basics of Key Management

"We haven't done a Basics episode in a while. I've had a couple of people ask me some questions that made me realize something that I was a little... that we haven't come back to with the Basics is just kind of the really simple, really practical, what the hell do I do with my keys? So we went into an entire episode on what our keys are and hardware, wallets, and all of that good stuff. And I will tell you straight off the bat, you need a hardware wallet if you have any meaningful savings. If you're just tinkering, that's fine. Don't give yourself a homework assignment and, you know, have to invest all this money and stuff into it if you're just playing around. But it's very easy to get sucked in and it's very easy for playing around to become a meaningful amount of money in Bitcoin. In fact, a good example actually was I was playing around with the Bitkit wallet, which is one that I'm a big fan of and I'm really looking forward to its future. And Synonym and John Carvalho and their team over there have built a really amazing and really intuitive product. But I was just testing a bunch of stuff out. So when I moved some Bitcoin to it, it was always intended to just be kind of a throwaway wallet. And I actually at some point took a screenshot of my backup seed and put it in the Discord chat with everyone in Synonym because we were we were trying to work something out. I can't remember what it was, some weird little quirk with the interface or whether it was showing addresses or something like that. I don't remember. It wasn't that big of a deal. But because I was thinking of the wallet so cheaply as just like throwaway, I did that. But what's funny is I, you know, was testing all out. So I added a bunch of contacts and, you know, I started making messages with people and, you know, all these things. And I started trying out a bunch of different widgets. And it got to the point where I'd kind of forgotten that I had done that. And then I just moved a little bit of Bitcoin to move a little bit more Bitcoin to it and eventually ended up with like eight hundred dollars worth of Bitcoin on it. And my seed is sitting in a screenshot in a Discord room that I don't know if 30 people or I have no idea how many people are in that Discord chat could see and just and so many multiple people may have just out of trying to help me put it in their wallets. So I was just totally exposed. I was just like putting cash in other people's pockets. Nobody stole it from me or anything. And I just woke up one morning and it hit me and I was like, oh my God, I'm an idiot. And I withdrew it back to my nunchuck. But just a easy little story to explain that you need to be careful with your keys and you need to have basic practice on how you're going to back things up. You need to know how you're going to be treating your wallet going

Why Everyone Is Talking About EigenLayer

"Sriram, it's great to have you. For those of you who don't know, Sriram is a longtime professor at UW, at the University of Washington. And he's also a crypto founder, founder of one of the hottest new projects called Eigenlayer. Full disclosure, I think Robot Ventures, you guys are investors in Eigenlayer, Dragonfly is not, but Eigenlayer right now is kind of the talk of the town. Everybody is talking about Eigenlayer to the point where you even got shouted out by Vitalik yesterday. So first question, moving from academia into being now like a full -on crypto founder, center of attention, in the center of the maelstrom, how has that been for you transitioning from the academic world to the crypto world? It's been out of craziness. I think nothing I could have done would have prepared me for this. It is, I think, one thing to be a startup founder, where you're basically off in your quiet startup trying to go build your thing. It's a completely different thing to be a founder of a crypto project, which is much more community -driven. Start to interact with a lot more people much early on. In fact, so much so that that is critical or essential to the success of the project even before you build anything. So I learned these lessons through doing a project where it was only technology -focused four years back when Haseeb knows the story with a couple of other professors. And when the feeling was exactly the opposite, it was pretty much similar to my professor life where we were just inventing new protocols, algorithms, and making them work. And I think this is a very different experience.

Ledger's Shocking Move: Has Our Trust Been Betrayed?

"Every Saturday, I ask what the week before will be remembered for when it comes to crypto and the larger economy. And to me, there are two big things that stand out this week. The first is, of course, ledger. For those of you who haven't listened to the ledger episode from earlier this week, the TLDR is that on Tuesday they announced a feature called ledger recover. Now ledger recover was a way for people who were maybe new to the space or who are just generally insecure about keeping their own seed phrase on a piece of paper, which is how ledger normally does things. This new feature ledger recover would allow them to effectively have a backup. And the way that it would work is that the ledger device would send out a copy of the seed phrase split into three parts. It would go to ledger and two other companies, and the person would have to use ID verification services to request to have it come back. Now you might already have spotted some of the issues here. All of a sudden, a hardware wallet which is supposed to be a self sovereign device and totally outside of the realm of tamper ability, has introduced a whole slew of new weaknesses. There's a KYC and identity verification process, there's these three companies that are involved, but the biggest thing that had people upset was that in the past, ledger had made it seem like there was no way for the device to ever send out a seed phrase, however that seemed to be changing. Because of the device could copy that seed phrase and then encrypt it to send it out in these three parts, didn't that break the relationship that people thought they had with their ledgers? Now, over the next couple of days, ledger really dug itself into a deeper and deeper hole. At one point, it's team tweeted technically speaking it is and has always been possible to write firmware that facilitates key extraction. You've always trusted ledger not to deploy such firmware, whether you knew it or not. It's important to understand that at the end of the day, any hardware wallet solution to user chooses to go with will always require that person to trust the developer to build and maintain a secure device to store your assets. This was exactly the wrong thing to say. And just further outrage the community.

"No these are positions I've had from the very beginning You know I know we went through that battle but that was internally how are we going to govern with just 5 of us And if you watched those votes kind of never changed to the very end And the one thing I had always promised people give me an opportunity to govern and you'll see Watch what I did when we were leader We've been able to win both times Why Because we put the constitution and American public first It's a new thinking here And we keep our word We put a commitment to America So you know what First bill we did retail 87,000 IRS agents We did keep our work make a parent Bill of rights We did keep our word by putting a border patrol a border security Bill on the foreign path We did keep our word by making us energy independent We do it time and again and again And I think it's not my ratings What's really happening is they're watching the Republicans in Congress lead because they're listening to the American public They're focusing on the issues that matter most The whole reason we have inflation the whole reason that we had three of the largest four bank failures in the last couple of months because the Democrats spent $6 trillion in broader inflation made us more dependent upon China And you know what Even before we read about what was happening in the FBI we put together a weaponization committee that would look at you haven't seen something like this since the 70s Because we believe when we were listening to these whistleblowers about what the FBI was doing going into Catholic churches to follow people going to school board parents to look at them because they think they're terrorists All of that has got to end And that's what this administration has got to understand Elections does have consequences The American people made a difference of opinion inside this house and we're going to stand up for them for all of those that haven't been listened to for all those years

"The red towels throughout the whole stadium. I felt like ten years ago and I was watching Phil's on TV. But yeah, there's no better feeling than getting out there last night. Did you come to a lot of games when you were a kid? I went to a few, not many. None of the postseason games, but I watched tons of games. So last night, Ryan Howard and Shane victorino and Cole Hamels were those all your guys when you were a kid? Yeah, all of them. Yeah, I couldn't stop looking at the screen. There was a lot of them that had the O 8 Phillies. I think they had some of the even older Philly's throughout the first pitch. That was cool, how they threw them throughout to the O 8 Phillies. And even some of the eagles, I'm a big sixers fans too, so I'll brand them Graham Tobias Harris, tyrese Maxie. I just felt like I was at home, but whatever people you had here, family friends, they're wearing orange and blue eyes. In the stands last night, they better be. Yes. They better be. Yeah, no red this time. Once the game started, were you able to kind of put that all behind you and just focus on the game? Yeah, I mean, the World Series, Phillies are a great team, so you really have to focus. But yeah, I felt surreal at times. But I tried to enjoy every second of it, you know? It's a childhood dream and there's no better feeling playing at a park that used to grow up watching. You got to base it off Aaron Nolan chew at bad slash night. What do you take from game one into this one tonight? Yeah. You know, just trying to stick to my approach. Looking for walks. I mean, it's a World Series that are not going to throw everything middle middle. Everything's been around the zone. I know Noah throws a lot of strikes. You know, he hasn't walked many guys this year. He's a really good arm. So you gotta be really patient with all these guys. But yeah, just stick with my approach. Look for something middle away. My strength. And be ready to hit his fastball and he's gonna throw some curveballs as well, but he knows exactly where to throw it, so you gotta be patient. Bleacher tweets

"Of 64 times that 70%. Number one number one is 7. So despite everything I just said, we have the fact that the last team to clinch the World Series in its home ballpark in front of their fans was the 2013 Red Sox. So since then, you should last 7 World Series and then played in teams home ballparks. So we're excluding 2020, have been clinched on the road. And that is the longest streak of road clenches in World Series history. I feel like this is probably going to end this weekend, but it is pretty crazy. It's gone on so long. And you know, I mean, just for B 12 perspective, I hope it ends only because you want to see the team able to celebrate with that home crowd and the fact we haven't seen that almost ten years is really great. Yeah, it is. I saw that tweet you sent out and I was like, oh my God, that's absolutely nuts. Great colleagues and producer of baseball tonight. Someone you know, well, this is what he had to say about you. Your all time favorite baseball tonight teammate here, and please don't feel the need to go apologize to everyone else, but we go all the way back to the beginning, Sarah since that cafeteria conference room where you fit into this group since day one. Your passion for the sport has been obvious in your desire to contribute to it is endless. So much so now that you slangs on sports, are a part of the game's fabric. You and your information and your tweets have become second nature to fans listening to games and following online. You have always been there for the game of baseball and the people in it. And now Sarah, the game of baseball and its people will be here for you. Baseball is the best, sorry, thank you. He said you would know what that would mean. That you have it. Now one thing about Greg, you know this is that when we're in the room watching games together and he's getting ready for the show, there's always lots of debate going on. So I'm going to throw this question to you because this surprised me. I was telling Carl about this. When we were talking to dusty before game 5 and we kind of kicked around game 7, I asked him if Christian Javier would be available to start that game or pitch in that game. He kind of shrugged his shoulder and well, you know, maybe a couple of innings. After because I thought going into the room that when we asked him about who was going to pitch, Lance mccullers or Christian Javier, he was definitely going to go with Christian Javier. That is not the case. That would be an interesting decision for dusty if we get to a game 7. Who would you start? First of all, I have to thank collie, thank you so much for all those kind of words that's really wonderful to hear and I certainly yeah, that's very much like him and I appreciate it so much. To the question yaki is the king of, you know, throwing around these debates as we watch games so much fun. I love that so much. I mean, I still would lean toward Javier, but you know that on three days rest and can't give you quite as many innings. He's probably not going to give you sick then. So maybe there's my colors and person of trouble Javier comes in. We've seen this team able to be resilient when they need to be. So as long as my colors isn't out there to give up multiple home runs again, he could still get them into a spot where it could work out. I also wonder, I mean, you know, dusty baker's pitching decisions, these have all been destroyed and for a long time now, like 20 years. These also just say I wonder how much of what he's choosing to say right now versus what we might actually see happen on Sunday because we know he's capable of sort of pulling that as well. Yeah, he did that before yesterday's game as you know. He basically said about Justin Verlander. Oh, there's no leash with him. And then he immediately had guys up in the bullpen. Because the games are so important when Justin got in trouble early. All right, Sarah, thanks for doing this. Thanks, sunshine. Enjoy the weekend games or game. Can't wait. Let's give some context to

"Reporter producer for MLB dot com Sarah, how are you doing? You left Philadelphia last night and you drove home overnight. That's kind of crazy. Hey, you know baseball I post suits and we got you, we gotta do. I know Taylor always talks about it that's no sleep October and now we have no sleep November. So you know how to do it, God here. Back ready to watch some games from home now, but so grateful to have gotten to see those three incredible games in person. So you agree with me. I'm guessing that right now, Jeremy Payton would be the MVP of the World Series. He's a FrontRunner right now. What do you think? Oh, totally. He joined our live on Hernandez of the only brookie to win both LCS and World Series MVP in the same year he did that with the Marlins in 97. Which is the ultimate fun because yeah, I just feel like there are a lot of parallels with those teams and everything, but I agree. Not home run. It needs deep end. I mean, I don't think you usually win World Series MVP for deep end. But I think in this series like this, you can point to some ways he's made and to make the argument with that as well with the home run and everything else. Let's play the numbers game. Number three number three is 6. So the Phillies last night, yes, they were losing by the time they got to the bottom of the first, then college forward got the crowd right back into it with a leadoff home run. So I was curious how many teams have been a leadoff home run. The game after being no hit. And this list is the main thing. So they were the 6th team. And now we'll be here straight to do it. The last time a team was no hit and then he'll lead off home run in the next game they planned was after Roy Holliday's no hitter in the 2010 NLDS. So there have been three no hitters in postseason history and two of them have been followed by that team. He didn't lead off home run the next time. And then there's a couple others in the regular seeds and the time before that 2010 Brandon Phillips Sam run at some bank was actually in April game by the giant after being no hit in Philly by Kevin millwood. So for some reason, a lot of filling energy with this one. Number two number two is 79%. So in post experience with the current two three two format, when they've been tied to two, and the team wins game 5 on the road, so headed home for game 6 and 7. Those seem to finish off the series when. 19 of 24 times. That's 79%. And in all deaths of 7 postseason series. So not just two, three, two. When they've been tied after four, that gameplay winner goes on to win the series 45

"Also this game is going to even more. As it turned out, his biggest contribution to the ASTRO team Carl might be on defense. And then, you know, the next inning chaz McCormick, who grew up in the Philadelphia area, grew up a Phillies fan, makes this crazy play smashing against the wall and right center field. And after the game, when he came running off the field Carl, he was just he was flying. Like he's body slamming teammates and getting excited because he had this moment that never going to leave him. He'll be attached to him the rest of his life. It was one of the great catches we've seen in the World Series. It was a game saving catch, the same way Mancini. I'm convinced that gets through him. That's in the corner. We're scoring from first base, and it's a whole, you know, it's a different ball game. So yeah, I mean, and I love these description, man seniors, anyway, was the ball can not get by me. If I have to tackle it, so be it. There was a lot of, there was a lot of good that happened for Houston and Mancini there. Thank God it hit the glove and went into gloves. That bangs off his body. That could. Who knows where it goes? And he was on the line. And again, a lot of these things buster, Dave Robertson, is a trade deadline acquisition for Dave dombrowski. Trey Mancini, they didn't really need train Mancini in Houston. And lo and behold, boreal, who was such a great defender. And makes that that infield even better than it already is, comes out of the game and in the old baseball world, a ball will find you and low and behold the ball found drayman senior. It's incredible. The ball found McCormick in right center field, making a historically great catch for a kid that grew up, as you said, going to Philadelphia affiliates games from Westchester Pennsylvania. All of these things are what, look, I don't want to romanticize it too much, but it's what makes this game so unique and so great and to your point, these people like David Hensley, who was carrying around marble and tile during the pandemic, gets his first knock earlier in the World Series, gets on base again, all of these things that conspired to create World Series champions. It's not just the Javier's the Verlander's the Altuve and the pregnant. You need everybody to make a contribution. Maybe a small one, maybe a huge one. And last night, McCormick and Mancini had two huge bunch. The M and M's last night. So I think you agree with me that the FrontRunner for the World Series MVP at this point is a product of the university of Maine. Played for the black bears, and that would be Jeremy Pena, rookie, the guy who took over for Carlos Correa, they scored three runs last night. He was in the middle of all three runs. Through the drawn in infield, the first played appearance hidden in the home run, getting a hit run later, Carl. He's just been amazing. Yeah, so there's a lot. A, the batting stance is unique. It's a little Pete Rose there the way he kind of leaves that bad off of his shoulder and but there's also some Derek Jeter in there to me because it feels like given Jeremy Payne is winning of the league championships MVP. And here he is on the World Series stage and there's nothing about his approach, his appearance we've talked about Christian javi, I have in this incredible pulse, pain is that guy. And that's almost weird when he rounds third and looks at his dugout and puts his hands up like Michael Jordan did the night that he couldn't miss three point shots. It's like, I can't explain it. And I think that's part of what makes him so great. He's just that he's just that uniquely talented and has this way about him that makes you think like, wow, of all the players on this team and I've been a big Bregman guy for a clutch hit. Pena may be that guy on this team for years to come. This is an amazing impact that he's having at such a young age and on his first World Series try, like it's coming very, very easily. He made a play last night on that high Harper where he charged it and picked the ball off just before it hit the ground and fired first. He really is unique and he got such a dang strong arm. You watch him take infield and he plants that front leg like nobody I've seen before for it and off of it gets such velocity and accuracy on it. It's a building block for Houston for years to come. And the only other guy I think that may take the or wrestle the MVP away from is if from bravo Valdez goes out and just was incredible in game 6 that. Because that's two it would be too incredible World Series starts one would be to get them the title. But yes, right now pain is the front. He's just been special. And what a nice humble young kitty is and you mentioned he went to a university of Maine. He grew up in Rhode Island. You don't get a lot of that from the northeast, but he's got his feet on the ground and that's a testament to how he was brought up and his abilities. It's a great combination. You would assume that Jim crane, the owner of the Astros is going to explore a team friendly long-term deal and get him paid and get him locked up as we go forward. All right, if you're the Phillies, obvious disappointment that you couldn't win one more game in your home ballpark, but in game 6, you've got the guy you want, right, Carl. That would be Zach Wheeler with two extra days arrest, maybe helping him deal with that fatigue that we saw in his previous start in the World Series. And look, facing framework Valdez is not going to be easy, especially with the confidence that has, but Zach wheel is a guy who can dominate a lineup with his stuff. Yeah, he can, and obviously that's what the Phillies are hoping

"SportsCenter during the World Series. What a game. That was a phenomenal game 5, so much fun, so much drama, and so much happiness, you know, you heard the interview that Justin Verlander did with me to the game. He walked up to me and I felt like I got just hit by this cloud of alcohol. Like that smell. And then immediately volunteers that, which I thought was, you know what? The guy hits having a moment of his life. He's super happy. He had tons of energy. I thought it was cool and good for him. And he's an adult, so he can do that. And yeah, I mean, you know, part of me said that this just shows you as much as we made about his own 6, 6 ERA and David Cohn, who's so good at what he does, and it's been in that spot before. You know, said, look, it's not a psychological thing. It's not a physical thing. He's probably going to have a great game because he's a generational type talent, which he then did, but as a human being, you just start to wonder like, what is going on here? I am better than this. And I've pitched well enough to win, it's almost as if our things beyond my control. Like, is my team not going to score any runs for me in a World Series game or enough and the opponent going to get a cheap couple of hits or are we going to make an error or whatever it is? At some point, it had become clear given his relief that it was a thing. Like, you know what? Just let me exercise this demon. Let me cross this bridge so I can at least have this conversation stopped. You know, Buffalo Bills, Marv levy, can we win one? No more wide right. At some point it does take on a life of its own. And I think I'm feeling the same way. It's great. Yeah, Carl, it reminded me of 2020 when Kershaw raised his hands over his head when the Dodgers won the World Series. The joy and Justin's face, you know, I knew, when I interviewed him, I was like, okay, how do I structure this? Because I knew, you know, I was like, it didn't feel appropriate to go right off the bat. You check that box, you want a World Series game because it's such a big game for the Astros with everything that went on. But when I asked the question, wow, the look on his face, the big smile, because I kind of felt bad for him the way that I did for Kershaw, because you're talking about a guy who should be unanimous selection for the Hall of Fame when his name pops up on the ballot, and yet there's this thing, right? This one box that's not checked. Yeah. And you know, it was really, I thought he was a fascinating watch last night because obviously the shorebird Homer and it was a struggle early and then all of a sudden in like the third fourth innings when he needed to make a huge pitch after that meeting on the mound. They went to a breaking ball and boy, did that last for a while. He became dominant in the fourth and even the 5th inning where you're like, he found it. This is the guy that just locked it in and it wasn't so easy. And as good as he was, let's just say the Phillies said tied the game up. There's another really, that was a great performance, really good performance. And he wouldn't have gotten the win. And that's where the wind becomes almost a byproduct of so many things beyond your control. He pitched really, really well. And if it had been two two when he left, it wouldn't have gotten that victory. It's almost, it's almost sort of like the circumstances fell to him last night. A he pitched great, which you have to do. But the offense had scored enough and the Phillies didn't get another run. So he was in line to get a win, but it wasn't, I'm sure he'd tell you, I pitched this way in other World Series games. I got the win because we were ahead after 5 innings and the bullpen was able to hold it. But I almost look at that as like, yeah, I understand where the wind itself has been reduced. I think for him, just that monkey off your back of at least I can say I got one. I mean, I'm not Owen 7. I'm not Owen 6. You know, I have one. And I know that I can do this. And now everyone else knows I can do this. The other part was the embrace with dusty baker, which just felt so, so sincere. And so authentic and maybe another reminder, everybody is aware of the elephant in the room here, and we just slayed it, which is a great thing for those guys. No doubt. Yep. Yeah, that was cool too. I got to see that live when he was doing that. It's going to be a really meaningful time for the Astros if in fact they're able to finish this off for dusty Ford Justin Verlander for some of the other players. I know you, I've watched you do interviews with a lot of players after they win a World Series. And so I'm curious if you had that experience. I know you about that experience. Where guys sit down with you and you're like, oops, they've had a bit to drink. I was going to tell the story about how I think it was after the 2014 World Series or maybe it was after Travis ishikawa's walk off home run. SportsCenter asked for Bruce poce to come out and do an interview. And so I was sent in. Hey, go ask him and Phil talk. And both should have known forever looked at me and said, you know, I've had some whisky. I've had a few pops. And so I told him, I said, boat should tell you what. You come out with me. I ask you some questions if I think you're in trouble, then we'll just move on. And he can find. He worked through it. I'm sure you've had some moments like that, too. Yeah, you know, I think most of them are so soon after, but there's alcohol. There's certainly alcohol involved, so if a player or a manager is affected by alcohol, very rapidly, there's no question that we've had guys on our set. And sometimes yeah, it is 45 minutes, and now we're later. We've had the trophy on the set and players would gather around and whether it was the Red Sox or the Chicago Cubs. Any one of them from 90 96 on, they've all shown up and depending on the amount of time. But none of them, none of them ever were out of control. None of them did you ever leave and say, oh boy, I think he just nailed it. We're in trouble. It was such a relief and I agree with you about the assessment of these Astros, baker, for sure, if he's able to get his first, I found it interesting and I'm probably reading too deep into it, but a lot of the thoughts from Astros players, Bregman at the forefront, how much fun and joy they are having this time, and you do have to think to yourself, well, I think because they are winning and there's no cloud of or you being aware of how you got to this space. It feels like there's going to be a rinsing for them. That doesn't mean for the general public, but a rinsing of 2017. And I think a lot of the relief and the joy comes from the fact that you know you doing this the right way. And that's such a must be such a reaffirming feeling and your abilities, et cetera. And I think that's what I'm getting from some of these players. So one thing I love about the World Series is every year we get these guys who are not household names.

"Already had a few beers. I guess so if you don't know Justin Verlander and you're around him, you know, if you spot him on vacation or something, if he's speaking quickly, he's probably had a couple of drinks. That seems like his tell. I just loved at the beginning, I've had a few long pause beers. Yeah, I've got some stories. He got some stories in an interview from last night to tell you when we speak with Carl ravage coming up here in a moment. I also spoke with ASTRO shortstop, Jeremy Pena. Jeremy, how was that night inning? The ball goes up in the air at chaz go back, try to make the play. I mean, that's big time, you know, I always say big time players make big time plays and that was no game saver. And yeah, great play. What does it say about this group that you're able to come into Philadelphia and take two out of three? I mean, we show up every day, expecting to win. You know, that's what we've done all year. We show up, look at the compete, and you know, we're going back to Houston now and the ghost of finish it out there. Now, you guys scored three runs. You were in the middle of all of them. And that burst in and you'd come up. They have the infield in. What was your approach? First of all, shout out to our tour for sending the tone from the jump with a leadoff triple. You know, making my job a lot easier. And now it's just looking for a good picture hit and put in a player try to get the running. Walk us through the breaking ball you hit for the home run. Same thing. And the plan, stick with it, you know, stick with the approach, look for a good pitch to hit and, you know, just not miss it. What'd you see in Justin verley later tonight? No, he does what Justin Roland does best. He goes out and competes. He dominates. And yeah, he battled today. He battled today, and it was good to see. Jeremy, congratulations. Here's

"Right after that, I got a chance to talk with Justin Verlander right after he got his first World Series victory. Justin how tense was that 9th inning for you? Where'd you watch it? Oh my gosh. In the locker room, I've had a few beers, a lot of nervous energy. Oh man, you know, the age Presley coming in whole holy crap. What a job. Can't say enough about these guys. What was your reaction when chaz caught that ball out in center? I couldn't believe it. You know, you know, off the bat, it looked like a pretty good hit and. I mean, just what a play. My reaction was trying not to go nuts because we got another out to get, but obviously quite excited. A home run that you're lattice war, but it starts the game, the runners on base, but you got through it. One run, how'd you do it? Oh, good question. What a grind. That was a tough man. He had a really good game plan. They obviously were trying to get on top of the heater after yesterday. And so I was able to make some adjustments and finally find my off speed stuff. I mean, it's really been invading me for a little while and especially the slider was able to kind of click it and find my tempo and execute it and really that was the difference maker. How impressed are you with this group to come into this ballpark and win two out of three, take it back to Houston. Yeah, I mean, it was rowdy here, the fans were fantastic. It was a lot of fun to play here. But, you know, we've been here, you know, we've been in these big series before and I feel like we were able to draw on that and use that to our advantage and not let the crowd affect us too much. Your burst World Series went how good does it feel? Check that box. It feels amazing. It was, it wasn't as easy as I would like. But man, the wind's a win. Feel great. Justin, thanks. Thanks. Yeah, so guys, how about this? Coming out, telling me he's

Certainly in the second half surprise me. I was a little surprised in the first half. They're down seventeen fourteen at half to detroit. But we do have staff you remember. We said some bad team. We come come out early. You know what. I mean and stick in the game and then they fought back and they can hang for two quarters. Yeah but that's about it. We saw the same thing with detroit san francisco. They look pretty good for a little while and then they got blown our right. So rogers was great. He took what they gave him in the first half they. They went cover to dared him to run the ball and stick to the shortstop any did he was smart and in the second half. He unloaded couple of great deep passes. One the divide on the money's pin. You couldn't throw it any better. And he was guarded. Well like where need be right. There was nowhere else. You could throw that ball from to make that play. Yup and that. That's one of those where you just look. And you say my god. How did he throw that. It was it was a tremendous pass and reminded you these air rodgers but he said after the game right he. He did not look. He went after the trolls. Here's what he said. He said he thinks a mom. I just think people like to say a lot of and it's nice to come back in here after a game like that even more now than when i started playing there's so many overreactions that happened on a week to week basis. "Couple's of tv theme song thursday with joy. All talk into tuesday. They're not original to this show there. There were rob parker's they are. Yeah anyway so. Helms fired rob got. Who is it dante. johnson. I think or black coach. Yeah yeah he's taking over. You know. I guess if he star search but if he does a good job then yeah center is into. You could always quit. You could always win the job if you if you if you go all right. No i remember it. Michigan state bobbi williams became the coach chris. And you know how. All the players marched to the president's off- residents and demanded he be made coach the players and they hired bobbi williams. I don't know if you remember bobby. He only had like three years. At michigan's it didn't go bought. Remember that. Yeah they put the players all together as a group. Watch to the president's office so rob with helton being guess whose name has already been kind of thrown out there. He's nfl right now. No come on who who urban meyer. He just audit nothing to do with urban. I mean he has. The name is out there. Little little rumbling. Remember there was talk about him already. What year or two ago right but then. They said that they didn't think that you would go for bryce. Somebody's bag record urban about winning baby and i look. Here's what i'll say. And obviously urban. He he had a tough introduction to the national football league yesterday. But and trevor laws did to route. Three three interceptions we had. He did have three touchdowns but he also had three interceptions. And lamar jackson is looking very good. Just to a touchdown. Pass the hollywood brown audio on their way to another thirty. What a yes are fourteen o early in the second. Right so yeah. I'm saying so your question going for another thirty point win on open the lamar great scrambling to get free and hit hollywood. There was another guy opened right there too. I know he was like yo. Why don't you to me but anyway I here's what i'll say about urban. Meyer rob and i don't think he you know is one game. I don't think he's in anything right now but if it goes badly. I don't think he'll stay very long. Read i i don't think this is. I'm not putting this on urban. I think college coaches and general nick. Sabin didn't stay long in miami when you were used to be dominant right and you're used to. You know you know rob when you're a college coach. I mean you run the state you run the whole right. The players you know released legal the like eighty as bad as your king and you're not that in the nfl. Now you know. It's just a whole different setup players you deal with grown men now. They're making more money making millions.

"I actually think they outplayed. Tampa bay that offense marched up and down the field tampa. Bay's punter kudos. Whoever that dude this binion or whatever name he was great he pin in there in there with inside their ten yard lies several times and dak marching them up and down daily at two three and outs and it were it. Not for an all. Pro bowl kicker. Greg's airline missing thirty one yard field goal and missing freaking extra point. Dallas may of one that a game i'd say may have because i point wise. You would say yet they would have won but i say may have because you know the game circumstances change and tampa. Bay's playing with different urgency. If they're down what whatever but they may have won that game. Here's some other things rob. Their offense had the ball. They won the possession game by far. They had the ball nine more minutes than tampa bay. They they were playing the one of the best defenses in the league last night with yet. Tampa bay is one of the best defense. No i mean you're right. They didn't look like it last night. But statistically and all that allows going. In i'm just saying they didn't look like a best great defence last night. No the defensive back. they didn't but i. I a credit dallas for that. I'm not just going to give say tampa bay didn't play. Well i think dallas played well off offensively but they without zack. Martin one of their best office of limi- rob they only gave up one sack. Dacoota threw the ball. Fifty eight times ain't got sacked. Once i mean that is that is something to build on their running game. Obviously look bad but i thought it was a good nine and even defensively. I thought the defense was much improved. Tampa bay we know one of the best offenses in the league and weapons. It's just a freakin. But his weapons. All over the place behold. Let me finish this weapons all over the place. They held him to ten points. In the second data. See how in the world you leave that game. Thinking dallas didn't play well. Dallas is louie fence dallas's defense which which which wasn't able to stop tampa bay like i said because the turnover important turnover. Shaneco turnovers changed things. Chris and last night one of hail mary okay. The other one dallas had no tackles for loss. No quarterback hits no sacks brady. You can't you can't be a defense on back on okay. But i'm talking about the dallas defense. Which last year was a problem. If you give quarterbacks without a sacking them or making them. Hurry or quarterback hits. You're going to lose most times. That's what i'm looking at. I'm looking at what tom brady was able to do back there. He was never under pressure and the defense from game. One opt off a game. One was not much improved. Okay i didn't give up for. They didn't give up forty points but boy tampa bay was able to do it. Would it wanted to for the most part. I just saying i'd that's a game all the points you make on dallas and they lost for all the point desk your super bowl played. You could beat anybody on given better team than dallas dallas. Show me and tom. Brady's being great on the first game after the super bowl he's now six in one he throws over three hundred yards. He's got now nineteen touchdowns and three picks in those games..

"Compared to where it was people are expected to win. The division have a chance in the afc to finally be able to be buffalo or or kansas city and get to super bowl. That's their goal. If had a good team the last couple of years they matched up as far as winds with anybody the last couple of years since he took over as quarterback so i. I'm expecting the pressure level to be the same. I actually think the pressure on him decreases a bit. Because i look. I think any objective observer is looking at it and saying he doesn't have a quality back now again unless lake on bell or devante freeman. Who's ordered in bell unless they can turn back the clock several years. He does not have a back at least at this point that we know of. That's really going to be to give him that support. And he's had in the past. I mean he obviously is the key to the running game but you know mark ingram. A couple years ago was was nice form and then last year they had a nice running back by committee situation with dobbins and edwards. So i do think there's actually i mean i. It's not an excuse. it's a legitimate scenario. Where they're running backs are out at her. And this is a running team and not just lamar but period even as receivers were side. Bateman battle with some injuries sammy. Watkins has a history of struggling with injury. So it's gonna be interesting. And i mentioned marcus peters. I don't want to belittle that as well. Because he's a tough defensive back corner. So i think this actually you know they're not dating. They're not looking at iribe like that and they shouldn't and i know the mom. You lamar is just he. He's always got tunnel vision. And that's one thing that's allowed them to be so successful and not worrying about anything outside of what he has to do. So i think. That's the proper approach. But i do think it's a legitimate explanation for them to maybe have a tougher time and people expect when you got all these injuries. Yeah i mean. I think you go into a season and you hope you have all your players. But that's just not how the nfl works. We just see way too. Many injuries of people going down and the best teams or the good teams ones that are able to just be able to survive and move on to make your job harder. Sure does but does it mean season's over no so. I'm just saying i think he has the same pressure. The pressure of getting to the postseason to save pressure of winning another playoff game. Maybe another playoff round to try to get close to that super bowl or to actually get there and that pressure is going to remain the same..

"He handled himself that. So we reminded me of charlie. Weis joining us here on fox sports radio. This is the odd couple. Bucky brooks and aaron torres coach. For the record. I was not part of any teams that played against you guys in the super bowl so i can't follow up question any better than that but with that said we you know mac joneses kind of one of those interesting guys where he may be. Starting he may not be. What about the guys. Like zach wilson trevor lawrence. They're back is up against the wall. You know very much. There isn't very much talent around them. How would you. How would you as a coach help. Get those guys prepared knowing the pass rushes come in. This game is moving fast for you know by the way we gotta get you out there and week one because the owner expects it the fan base expected etc the client. Because there's there's no doubt you know the reason why they're playing because they really don't have to beat anyone out now not disrespect to gartner michigan. Who i kind of them. But the reason why. You're you draft. I is because you were crummy esteem so in those cases neither. Nobody expects jacksonville or the jess to be competing for championship this year. So he's our guys are the quarterbacks for the future. why wait why. Wait per year or two to put him in there. Now that being said you know. I watched i watched it happened more. This week of the jacksonville game the jet game. Because i think as zack wilson actually played pretty well the jet game. But you know you know. I'm sitting there watching watching the jacksonville game and two of the five offensive. Linemen weren't playing in the game. Well i can tell you that he needs all five of those starting offensive. Linemen because what you need to do is get do a whole lot of what he feels comfortable with. Forget about trying to be too creative doing things that he does the best so that he can. You set them up for success. The too many times coaches fall into that trap. A they have a zillion ideas. But guess what you know. The team performed or the quarterback can't handle them. I think he just gonna find his comfort zone and just do a lot of that expand from there. You know coach. Here's something that i've been hearing about when i talk to coaches around the league..

"Available. So let's bring them in four time super bowl champ. Former notre dame head coach spent a ton of time with these new england patriots and of course follow him on twitter at shirley. Why senior coach weiss this afternoon. I'm doing great. How about you guys do well. We're doing well. We're actually talking about one of your former teams. The new england patriots. What do you think whatever you could. Share is going on behind the scenes this week cam new in obviously he's in covert protocol. Mack jones was phenomenal in a closed door. joint practice yesterday. Do you believe that that you know the the conversation is ramping up about getting mac. Those first team reps in week one or or do you believe it's more of a. We're gonna ease him in and still keep cam newton under center and week one. Well i think until this this thing went down with cam. I think clearly cam was a one a and and back was in the bullpen. You know i think the camps had a nice camp is beloved in the building. He does everything the right way. he's he's told with even with his big personality. Everyone loves them up there. The players love him to coaches. Love him and you know we know that. Mechanically cams got some problems. That's that's no. That's no big secret and part of the problem. Last year was him. He was only part of the problem and so far in know from after two preseason games you know he's played good enough. He has an beat. Now let's just say that but this latest episode you know look it. I don't know exactly what happened. But let's do that. They have a preseason game on a thursday so in all likely came in on friday. Watch tape and then got a couple days off. So in all likelihood he went back to carolina or wherever. Wherever's family was to go see his kids and then came back no everyone's talking about covert and testing. But i don't even know testing came into play in this situation. I think the fact that we clearly you know can read between the lines and see he's unvaccinated. You know the fact that you know. He left the area that puts them in the program. Now if you were bill check okay. You're josh mcdaniels howling noise would you be. I mean the kid show. The kid goes out on the first practice against first day against the giants and just lights it up. He completes eighty five percent of his passes with the good guys..

"Listening to the best of the odd couple with chris. Bruce let's get into this quickly. Does there's a story ramona. Shelburne wrote about kawai and it was really about russell westbrook and how. He ended up with the lakers but she had a story about how when kawai was a free agent a few years ago and everybody was wondering easy going lakers clippers raptors staying with the raptors russell westbrook. Who was in. Okay see with paul. George cau- kawai and said. Hey y'all i you know i'm from la bra. I'm willing to move on. You know why we try to team up in l. a. and kawai after that call the coordinator story he call instead of thinking about it. Mulling it over a. Maybe you know trying to sign get westbrook. His co star. He called paul. George and said yo i rather play with you. And that put the the wheels in motion for the paul. George trade and i wanna to ask you two things rob number one did co why do westbrook dirty and number two did he picked the right star did he. Pick the right co star. He could've co-star with westbrook. He chose the co star with paul. George did he make the right move. I think he made the right move. We saw paul george. This year finally blossom into the guy that we thought he could be when when got hurt in that utah series. Most people didn't think they'd get out of that and they did he play big. He's forced to sons to game six. Play big in a big closeout game in phoenix. So i think he made the right decision. And i don't think he did dirty. I just think really. Yeah i think he. He reached out and he wasn't interested. I mean my. I don't i don't know what does he owe. Does he own something yet. The reason i feel like what. I don't know he. We reached out and said. Hey i want to play with you. That's nice but i don't have to pick your or decide what i reach out to your teammate. And say i'd rather now. What she says is i'd rather play with you. Rob g check with that but let me let me finish rivalry. I'd rather play you so part of that conversation. Was yo your boy. Your boy called me. 'cause covad george all in see he was like i'm staying here. I like the fission mia russell great. He was down the stay. Part of that conversation seemingly was yo your boy called me.

"You don't have to have a quarterback of aaron rodgers caliber. You just gotta give him you know. Derek carr kirk cousins. You just heard. Rob g's feelings. He loves their car. But anyway well your love derek carr. He ain't elite. You feel like this is huge. A huge problem for the packers. Yes my what what you make of. This news. adams in negotiations is is that negotiations potentially have broken down over aaron rodgers because he davante adams may be saying. We'll we'll whoa if you don't get aaron rodgers back. I don't know what to tell you fan. Do you think that's a bad move on his part for the reasons you just spelled out the last few minutes absolutely not but i thought you said he's go ahead and get that money. No no i think. I think i think that he should go ahead. And get his money and structure it in a way that that he can either force his way out or move. Either or or be or be mu dre aaron rodgers if aaron rodgers doesn't come come back. I think that that's the way. I was structured. But if if i am him you know he he may not be willing to go through a bad year where he doesn't get get the touches and the balls that he wants so and if he's not willing to do that then yes i would do the exact same thing he's doing. How is this situation. Let let's say air. Rogers comes back to three three weeks into training a couple of weeks before the season starts for week before the season started. How is this going to affect his team. Like are they gonna derek contender. Obviously when all things are good do you think they're gonna fall to the point. Where they're they're solid. Maybe make the playoffs but that this is going to their season even if air rogers go absolutely not chris you you have to consider this right so we were talking. Adam kaplan a couple of weeks ago on fox sports sunday was doing with damn dan buyer and he said that aaron rodgers last year remember he won the mvp right and he went to a team last year during a time out and said to the team. Get me outta here. In terms of green green bay and he's still played at a championship level and mvp level under the circumstances that he was in. So no i do. In these circumstances. I know but but the point is he's able and the team the team new. He wasn't happy all the players around him so the fact that he was able to compartmentalize and get everything done and play at such a high level. There's no reason to believe that he.

"Best of the odd couple with chris. Russo and rob harker. I've said this several times now. But i is repeating. It is worth repeating. I hate all the injuries like else. lebron ad. Chris paul who had covert. We know he's back hawaii linda week. Go on an on the injuries but these play offs have been outstanding outstanding. And i think this is good for the league because young stars are emerging so next year when when the season starts going to be checking for lebron. we're going to be checking for durant. We're going to be checking for kawai and janas in the usual suspects. But now there's a new crew of cats donovan. Mitchell devon booker job moran that dues will be looking at to see how they stack up against the old guard and none none of the young cats. Are we going to be watching. More than mr trae. Young trae young is doing his thing last night. Game one of the eastern conference finals. I mean you would think. Third season really should be a senior in college. That's what he'd be a he. Drops forty eight points eleven assists and leads the fifth-seeded atlanta hawks to a victory over the milwaukee bucks. Now i'm just going to say this. And then i'm gonna turn it over to you. Let you roll. what we're seeing from. Trae young is virtually unprecedented now. He's still got working. I'm talking about if he actually leaves. These atlanta hawks past the milwaukee bucks. This will be unprecedented. I am astonished. By what i am seeing from trae young. Because we haven't seen anybody with all due respect to a supporting cast. But it's mundane is non descript..

"I mean granted. What what we saw in the playoffs was absolutely special in. Could he be better than than lebron james at this point. Yes because father times catching up with lebron but the idea that you can just anoint. A guy with such a small sample size as the best player. That's the part that i don't agree with those people. Were saying that to just based on what he did and golden state yet. What see now see now. That's a legitimate argument like in twenty nineteen. That was a legitimate argument but then he gets hurt. We don't see him a for the for the rest of the finals. Obviously the warriors lose and then we. He's absent all the twenty twenty and then twenty twenty one he. He only plays half the season. And if you really think about it when when he was out who looked like the best player on the brooklyn nets james harden so so just with the small sample size. I can't put him above lebron at this point but also i do recognize that when we're watching lebron james. He doesn't have the same ability to to blow by guys and drive by them and all the things that made him so dominant but his basketball iq in being able to set guys up is what still puts him head to head and shoulders above a bunch of guys in the league. And there's really only a couple of guys who you could even contend as the best player in the league at this point. I don't even think you can put jaanus in that category because yacht is as talented as he is. Twenty eight eleven six on the season which is unbelievable but the idea though that the best in the league doesn't either facilitate the last shot or take the last shot on his own team. That's a little bit weird to me. And then you can. You could argue steph. You could argue like a and you could argue k. d. but beyond that everybody else doesn't have enough of a resume or doesn't or we've had such a small sample size to even have them talked about in the same breath as the be. Sure to catch live editions of the odd couple with chris. Broussard and rob parker weekdays at seven pm eastern four. Pm pacific on fox sports radio and.
