"Officially go into effect September 3rd. But most of it hasn't been enforceable because the council needed to adopt what's called an outreach strategy Teams that are going to connect people in these encampments with services and housing and that process that would happen before any enforcement of the law wealth. The council did adopt those procedures just this week and now for most of the sites were encampments can be banned, like around parks, schools and underpasses. A new process begins. Each council member has to pick those specific areas and their district where they want the law to apply and get that approved by council. So Mitchell Farrell has done just that. And started the process for the sites that you see here, including several underpasses, schools, a couple parks, a senior center, a library, a daycare, you see them all there. The ordinance would apply within 500 ft. Of those areas in his council district CD 13 now if approved Those sites. If the proposed sites that he put forward their approved signs would need to be posted in those areas for 14 days before the enforcement of the law, and once the laws enforced infractions are fine with the penalties for not complying for the ordinance. Now what candidate for this council district running against Mitch O'Farrell for his seat Kate Pie News, who used to work for Councilman Mike Bond, and, by the way, put out a statement accusing of Harold introducing A quote motion to quote further criminalize the council districts on house neighbors and quote back out here live, though. What we have these sites for Mitch O'Farrell. We're likely to see this process play out and many more council districts as these members have to come forward with the specific places where they want this law to apply. So unless, of course, they aren't going to have any of the encampments in their area in their districts. Off limits. We will see this again.

And if you don't want to go along with it will your poor the problem. The people of the area just having had i mean we just hasn't address concerns. Constituents want these encampments to be right in front of the public face. All you've ever done attacks constituents who playing. He's taking his bid policy now everywhere. He's bragging itty fifty house one hundred one people whereas you've been the last seven years when i go home tonight matter what else. I know where i can sleep. Factor the matter is not representing the people here. he's been emboldened by what he's done. Is that is to the point where i think he believes that people will not stand up to him. I am proud to stand here. As being the other recall target for john and ken thou for an update on the recall against de la city councilman mike bonded. Here's john and ken yes. Kfi am six forty live everywhere on the iheartradio app. Coming up in about fifteen minutes. Who got around to the moist. Line people you can listen to that. I'll be talking to steve gregory about his big special coming up this weekend on homelessness. Which is the prime reason right. Now we're at the bonnin recall desk and by the way things have kicked off signature gathering and such so. You should be a part of recall. Bonnin twenty twenty one at the effort against this probably one of the worst politicians we've ever run into in southern california politics The news today is that bond is taken a victory lap calling it the in kidman to home initiative to offer a pathway to permanent housing to people living along the venice boardwalk bond and garcetti said today one hundred ninety one people have been bought indoors. Bonnin said a metric that people are judging. This is how the boardwalk looks. That's reasonable but the metric. That really matters is how many people have been bought indoors and how many lives have been transformed for the better. Well we're going to get to but we believe it will be much more unbiased. Look at the situation in venice and of course this all started because sarafina wave announced. He was going to go in there on the recall. Effort started mark is president of the venice stakeholders association and He can talk more about this mark. Welcome back to the show. Thanks very much ken. Thanks for inviting me on yup I was out there yesterday. walked the entire stretch get account They were over. Eighty encampments Everywhere from ten to somebody just with a bedroll a backpack And they let me do those. They run those half of those were in areas that supposedly had been cleared. Oh see that's they've all come back either. Same people have come back or it seems from talking to a sheriff's deputy that there are new people coming in who who apparently haven't gotten notice that venice boardwalk and beach or now close to camping so There for example area. Just south of the handball courts. Five new tents up That area has been cleared twice. And what's really missing in this whole thing. Is somebody from reckon parks. Reckon park ranger or couple. Lapd officers on bikes just cruising up and down all day. Long just catching people before they set up The the the good news is today. When i went out there. Were i counted fifty. Four tenths of encampments Against strung along the entire boardwalk and the numbers you just gave gave us The bond and garcetti. You're saying one hundred ninety one have been housed Originally there were like two hundred twenty out there and yet we're seeing More than just Thirty or so remaining. We're seeing more like fifty fifty four remaining so there's been this influx and until they they put some Some kind of law enforcement out there during the day as well as as they have been doing at night Just to simply make it clear that you cannot camp here This is all going to Start to reverse the good news today and I don't have much nice to say about eric. Our city when the good news is that is that yesterday. He gave his Staff working on behalf of. Garcetti gave the lapd The authority to go back and do routine anti camping enforcement all along the beach. Which means that they will be enforcing no tents and no camping now. How quickly they roll. That out is a your guess is as mine. But at least they feel emboldened to go back to the way things were before the pandemic where yeah. We had some chronic problems in in several places on the boardwalk. We didn't have two hundred and twenty campers. We didn't have a refugee camp down there that was rife with Fires assaults And you know a couple of murders So it's they're turning the corner but again until there is a law enforcement presence either rangers or lapd telling everyone no you can't camp here and telling them Throughout the day it's all gonna come back. I remember when i was on last time. I told you about a woman that had a basically a restaurant about about eight cables chairs and was actually selling drinks to the tourist and somehow thought that was ok. Well when they when they finally cleaned up zone one which is the The north end. They finally made her take all her stuff and she left yesterday. Morning was walking. She was there with a huge hand truck. All of her tables and chairs and all of her Betting you know so. He's so she could live there again. She was setting it all up again. That was says astounded. And there's nobody around Well i can't say no. This is illegal. Let me let me cut to the. I'm actually looking at a story running right now. On channel seven news. They're to people the consensus. They're getting is that things are better there. But i think what you're saying is unless they consistently enforce this. They're just going to gather again. They're gonna come. And and you know some people a lot of people. Actually you've been helped into shelter into housing At least temporary housing and they may actually matriculate and graduate to to permanent housing. It's all good for that. Subset of the folks that have been out there. And i am really pleased that we can do. It can make it happen. The question is do you really want more people to come from minnesota and texas and massachusetts To be homeless on venice beach. Because that's what's gonna happen unless the message is very clear. Nationally at venice beach is close to camping. I mean i. I wrote to the mayor's representative Just yesterday say. I think the mayor before he leaves down these to stand up at a press conference and say everyone in the nation that venice beach is close to camping That's that kind of a message. It said again and again and again is the only thing that's going to stop this constant flow. It's like as i said last time. You've got a bathtub your draining it at one end but you tend to turn the spigot.

And chevy nova came in to say that by july fourth all of the people that are in house living along this boardwalk should be able to find shelter and mayor. Eric garcetti under his leadership as well. The problem i asked him has only been getting worse. Not better understood his leadership. He says that he was dealing with a pandemic and also other areas in the city like echo park cleaning up those areas as well and now he says he has been focused on this area but obviously they need more resources and more solutions but you saw him getting whisked away by those police. I believe a radio reporter. This wasn't mentioned in terms of his public schedule so it is unclear as to whether or not he was surprised that we're here at this event but clearly The more attention to this issue the better according to all public officials involved we say thanks to fox eleven for that report today spotting mayor yoga pants in venice spewing all sorts of garbage that. He's been there many times. He's always been focused on this problem. Then why is it so bad. Well the the fact that he says. I'm gonna get a pissing mess with the sheriff but we've got more people out of the encampments here than he has in the past week game in the past week well via waivers only been there a week or so. Is there a number. Such a weasel. He always has like some weasley thing to say. Well we've had. We've removed more in the past week. This thing is built up for years right. The hell's wrong with you.
