"Even on CNN, they had a town hall with these people last night who are hurting. They're hurting. Listen to an east Palestinian resident grilling the CEO of Norfolk Southern. You've got to do something about this. I lost a lot. I lost the value of my home. I'm only one block. I can throw a stone to that burner. And what do we do now? I come back from Chicago four days. Chicago for four days. I came home. The other day, I put the garage door up, I pulled in the garage, got out of the car, put the garage down. As soon as we got out of that car, the snow came back to us. Right away, instant headache. Now, I'm 65 years old, a diabetic, A-fib hearts, heart disease, everything, down. Did you shorten my life now? I want to retire. And enjoy it. How are we going to enjoy it? You burned me. We were going to sell our House. Our value went. Do I move the grass? Do I plant tomatoes next summer? What can I do? I'm afraid to. And it's in the air. Every day I cough. A little cough here, a little cough there. I've never had that. I got rashes on my cheeks, and all of my arms from the I don't call it a derail. And I call it a disaster. It's Norfolk's disaster, not in a train. Derailment.

Flaco the escaped zoo owl can remain in the wilds of NYC

"An escaped Eurasian eagle owl from the Central Park zoo can remain in the wilds of New York City after two weeks of living the free life. Flacco flew the coop February 2nd after his enclosure was vandalized, but the owl never went far a foray to Fifth Avenue. Police using yellow crime scene tape to block the area. The owl's little head on swivel watching the crowds and cops watch him, then days of flying around the park, perched in trees and on the grass, crowds taking pictures, but zoo officials had concerns about Flacco hunting on his own after living in captivity, so they spent time trying to lure him with bait and owl calls. Finally, evidence he's hunting Flacco coughs up fur and bones. There are pictures of him catching and feeding on rats, now zoo officials are suspending recovery operations saying they'll keep a close eye on the owl's health for now. Julie Walker, New York

Children's medicine shortage hits as flu season starts fast

"Doctors say the shortages of children's cold and flu medicines could persist throughout the peak winter months. Here's a new problem for parents caring for sick children, a surge in demand is making it hard to find over the counter medications like Tylenol and cough syrup. With an early start to the flu season and the RSV and COVID viruses also making kids sick. CVS and Walgreens are limiting purchases and doctors are also reporting shortages of antibiotics. Some pediatricians say instead of reaching for pills for a fever, parents can try lukewarm baths, not colds, and if it's a baby under two months old, get to the doctor with a fever over 100.4°. Use two teaspoons of honey to suppress a cough in children over age one, and you can try running a cool mist humidifier to relieve chest congestion. Doctors also say if the stores are out of name brand children's medicines feel free to use the generics. I'm Jackie Quinn

He tried to hide everything he's done, but you can't hide your record. You voted for this inflation. You voted for crime on the street. You vote for this open border. Larry Taunton's Eye-Opening Series About Klaus Schwab

"Now, you've done this deep dive into Klaus Schwab and the World Economic Forum. And it's really gruesome stuff to me. It's gruesome. And it takes a brave man like you to look into this. For people who know nothing about who this monster Klaus Schwab is, tell us, please. Yeah, the Klaus Schwab in the World Economic Forum. Maybe some of the people who are watching us are listening right now, Eric, I don't know anything about them. They don't know anything about who these people are in it. It all sounds like a Bond villain. In fact, he looks like a Bond villain. He looks like he looks like Ernst blofeld. Schwab does. And what I find very interesting about him, Eric, or at least not directly about him, but what people say about him is all the conspiracy theories that float around the Internet. And what I decided to do was what I or you would do if we were researching any topic for a book or biographically, and that is to see what could be known about Schwab versus what wasn't known about him. So for instance, people seem to focus on was his father and Nazi. And what is he a Rothschild? And all these things that these consumers, all kinds of strange things like this, and instead people were missing the really important things. In other words, if we're talking about a figure like, let's say, Adolf Hitler, there were so many, so many theories about Hitler rather than actually reading mind cough. So what I decided to do was focus on what could be known. And that meant reading Schwab's books, books like COVID-19, the great reset, the great narrative, and seeing what the man himself was saying,

Jim Hanson and Heritage's Mike Howell Discuss the Oversight Project

"Go ahead and keep kicking the deep state in the teeth because I'm joined now with my cowl who is the director of the oversight project at the heritage foundation. And Mike, I am 100% certain that if anybody needs some oversight, it is those people across the river from where I'm sitting right now in the permanent bureaucracy. So tell me what you guys got Tito. What's the oversight project about, man? Right. So the oversight project is a recognition that in the next two years, when conservative state, the house and probably the Senate, it's going to be all accountability oversight hearings and investigations. And now conservative institutions institutions historic have done a great job of white papers, policy development, but that's not what time it is right now. We know the institutions of the federal government have been captured. We know what's happening. We are already so downstream of all this stuff. We need to start kicking back a little bit. So we created what we call the oversight process. When it basically is, is the investigative arm of the heritage foundation and the conservative movement. We do a lot of foia litigation. I mean, we all know what boy is already sending me. I hope you get some back. None of that matters unless you sue. And so we're taking the big bad heritage foundation. Expertise we have, and turning it into a litigation army, all these foia requests. So every time you see kind of a congressional letter going out asking for information, they're not going to response, you know, the Biden administration is not voluntarily coughing up any information. So what we're doing is we're going to go in. We're suing strategically all over the place. Right now we have about 400 boys outweigh litigation ten different places. And we're already getting quite a bit of stuff. If you saw last week or, you know, I think it was the 12th actually of October. We got an email from mayorkas, the DHS head. The first press secretary told him right before he went up in The White House podium that there's no weapon in Del Rio. You remember when they accused them of work religions of women. And we saw this like this. This is ridiculous. Obviously there's no weapon. There's got to be some gold here. And so we went out and you know we sued him for all the communications. He had before he did that abomination of the press conference, throwing border patrol into the bus. And sure enough, he went up there and we found it. So what did he want to do anyways? And so, you know, we launched that a couple weeks ago. And now what do you have? You have basically the entire conference of Republicans in the House and Senate. Calling for his impeachment. I mean,

"Thank you for joining us guys for this very important conversation about Adam two. Yeah, give us a bit of a give us the arch of how this how we got here. Adam people and I was announced that Cosmo verse, I guess now three weeks ago, what's happened since then and did it go as you expected? I mean, I think the main the main goal was to kick off a vigorous conversation about Adam's political economy. And I think that has clearly been achieved. This is the most vigorous set of discussions we've seen today, and it's quite delightful. To actually see all that and to see the passion and enthusiasm about the project. And there were some very bold offers, let's say, in the paper, and so there's rightly so. That's kicked off a lot of discussions with controversy, there's going to need to be changes, but we wanted to kick this thing off with a bang. And put out a really strong vision for what the future of the cosmos hub could look like in that should include some potentially large controversial controversial changes that might need to get worked out. And so I think we're really excited about the level of engagement we've seen and there's work now on a charter. There's a lot of discussions around how we are going to do governance moving forward and all this stuff. And so at coughing versus sort of talked about how there's these sort of three big phases of cosmos, you know, start with this initiation phase, which we completed, which started with a white paper, which we shipped in completion, right? And now we're moving into the integration phase, and this has its own white paper for the hub, but there's a lot more to it. And it's really about upgrading the overall political economy of the energy and ecosystem of the cosmos hub and that process is kicking off now. So this podcast and all the other discussions are kind of a big part of that. And what's the phase three? Phase three I call the illumination phase. We're all finally awakened to the reality of the payments graph and crypto finally has its impact on the world and we can break out of our speculative crypto bubbles and actually meaningfully restructure the global monetary system.

We also do saline like nasal saline, so you can keep noses rinsed out when they're really stuffy. Keep some benadryl for allergic reactions. Like just in case. And then just like some symptomatic stuff like cough drops and honey to address like sore throats and stuff like that. With COVID, we added a pulse ox so that we can check like if you were to get sick, coughing short of breath that we can do one of those little portable pulse oxes toward the beginning of the pandemic. I will say that if you use a portable pulse ox, or if you use a pulse ox at home, especially if you have a darker skin tone. That that pulse ox, it's not guaranteed to be accurate. So if you are having chest pain and shortness of breath, it doesn't matter if the pulse ox says you're a 100% oxygen, you should probably still get checked. Again, focusing more on the person and not on the number is kind of one of my main messages. People with darker skin tones pulse ox is tend not to be quite as accurate, especially when the numbers are in the more extremes. So just kind of a word out there of caution. Awesome. Okay, this was a jam packed, full of valuable information. So thank you so much. I feel like all the things we talked about are just things that it's like my issues. And I'm like, help me. But I know people listening will have the same questions. So this is perfect. So where can people find you online? And do you have anything coming up in the future? I know you're working on a podcast. Have you decided on a name for it? I have decided on a name I'm not going to announce it quite yet. I have to lock it in. I feel like I need to lock it in before I officially announce it. But people can find me on TikTok. I'm beach Jim ten, so beach like normal GEM and the number ten. I'm also on Instagram at doctor period beach jam ten and I'm also on Facebook at doctor period beach gym ten. And then, you know, follow along my journey because I will be starting that podcast in the next couple of weeks. Yes, okay, awesome. I'll put the links to all those platforms in the episode notes.

"And I've heard a debate about humidifiers in the room, whether it's like a warm humidifier cold one, like you shouldn't use one. So what are your thoughts on humidifiers? Generally cool mist humidifiers what you're going to find every pediatrician recommending. It's going to keep the mucus membranes nice and moist. They're going to be able to cough up those secretions rather than getting more dried if they're dry, they're harder to expel. So keeping it nice and moist, keeping your mouth and nose nice and moist so that you can start to feel better. So I am a fan of cool mist humidifiers. And what about the baby rub? Like when I'm sick, I lather myself in vix. I'm like putting it up my nose. So what about the baby vix? Is it helpful? I'm going to start out to save that regular vix has something called camphor in it. And it can be toxic to adults if they ingest one gram, one to two grams of it. So this is actually a medication that you have to be very careful with small children. So please keep your vicks away from your kids. There are some baby vix products that don't have the camphor in it, but I feel like for adults the most effective part of it is the camper because it's kind of opening things up so that you can breathe a little easier. It's not going to hurt generally, but I don't know how helpful it would be necessarily. Okay, so don't put vix up my nose anymore. Just this tiny tiny. No. Maybe just on the outside. Okay, okay. I'll see what I can do. I'm not the best. It's so funny because my husband's a doctor and I'm just like a mess. Okay, what's the difference between a dry cough and a wet cough? The sound basically. So, you know, a wet cough is generally there's some mucus so loose mucus that's in that kind of upper airway or even in the lower airways that you're kind of coughing and trying to expel..

"Do this on my platform is to talk about what research is and the levels of research. And so I'll try to include I'll be like, this is the study and include a picture of it so people could go find it if they wanted to. And then talk about the study. So this is a retrospective study, so the study is not as good as other types of studies. Or this is a smaller population, or this is a good population, and it may be applicable more to what we're talking about. I do believe as medical professionals that we are considered authority figures and that we should be very careful about the information that we're putting out there. We need to take responsibility for that. And honestly, if you came at him and said, listen, this is a really small population, and I think this might be some fear mongering type stuff. I think you got to own up to it. You know what? It is a small study. And it's probably not able to be reproduced or it's probably not seen in a larger population. But here's another study that shows that, or you know what, they haven't reproduced the study. Maybe it's just something to keep an eye on. I tend to be a believer in that moderation is reasonable and probably using some tea tree oil and some lavender is going to be okay. But if you're bathing your child in it twice a day, every day, that might be a little excessive. Yeah, of course. Yeah, totally. I had to get that off my chest. It's so funny. I'll see a TikTok. And I'm like, oh, I'm in a mood right now. And so I'm going to stitch this. Whereas if it was any other day, I would just like let it go. Oh man, okay. Kate, let's talk about coughs in children. As a parent, when Milo gets a cough, I feel helpless. And it keeps them up all night, and even if they're sleeping, they're still like coughing throughout the night. I can't sleep. It raises my cortisol when he has a cough. And I'm always like, why can't I find anything that works? Like everything is holistic. If your child is under a certain age, there's no actual cough medicine that will really alleviate the cough. And then I was telling my mom this and she was like, oh, when you guys were younger, we just gave you like, you know, X, Y, and Z and it was fine. So what was the shift in not being able to give children cough medicine? And do you have any tips for coughs? So the thing to one of the things to realize about coughs is they're coughing for a reason. Most of the time, you're actually clearing secretions from your upper airways from your lungs when you're having some post nasal drip that they're clearing. So there is a reason for coughs. And so we don't always want to suppress coughs. You want them to be able to clear the secretions and not kind of sit down deep in the chest. Kids that are asthmatic, obviously, are a different category because they cough because of their asthma and you would treat that differently with albuterol and potentially steroids. But kids that just have your typical upper respiratory viral infection and their coughing. You know, most of the time it's going to be a couple of days to a week ish. The cough sound really nasty. I'll give it to you. You're just, oh, that sounds so terrible. How can that not be something bad? But most of the time, it's not. And it's noisy, and it's scary. But most of the time, it's okay. So we tend not to do too much with coughs..

"My name is Renee rina, and I am definitely the mom friend. You have always wanted. Welcome. You're lucky that you can't catch germs through a podcast because I am very sick. And it's funny because today's episode is with doctor beach gem, and she is a pediatrician, and we talk all about fevers and coughing and colds. So this is kind of funny. It's like a big coincidence, isn't it? She is a mom of four young children and she had her children throughout her training to become a pediatrician, which blows my mind. She has over 600,000 followers on TikTok. She is like TikTok's favorite doctor. If you're not already following her on TikTok, you must. It is at beach gem ten. She is also on Instagram at doctor, well, DR dot beach gem ten. And like most of my episodes, I really used this episode to ask her things that bothered me, for example, why is there no effective cough syrup for young children? It drives me nuts. Like when I have a bad cough, there's all kinds of medication that I can take to kind of suppress the cough. But with kids, there's nothing. It's like, oh, give them a teaspoon of honey. You know what I mean? So anyways, I ask her about that. We also talked about do you remember when I made that TikTok where I stitched the doctor that was talking about lavender essential oil? Oh my God, so I asked her about that. I interviewed her right around the time that I made that TikTok and it was bothering me, so I was like, oh, I'm going to ask her about that. So we talk about that. We talk about fevers, when to treat a fever because there's always back and forth, like differing opinions about like, do you try and get rid of a fever?.

"You get a chest cold but It can be due to an underlying conditions such as copd emphysema asthma. Well emphysema's group than copd Asthma but to an acupuncturist generally indicates the presence of flam and heat in the lungs more times than not speaking in absolute terms. Why because an acupuncturist has to see you. In assess session can't be assessed based on symptoms over a pipe cast or television. Whenever a lot of times you can watch television. See some type of commercial on the internet. Oh you have these symptoms. That means you have this. Don't follow that. And this is why i say seen acupunctures because you could present with symptoms is totally relevant to what you being told from a commercial perspective now in uncontrollable cough where when i say uncontrollable you like you. Having a coughing fit you're not bringing anything up. it can really tax. You really taxing you just exhausted and your diaphragm. It can be so bad we you diaphragm can begin spazzy and it can even cause you to to bomb because you coughing that heart from a western medicine perspective. What this can be like what whooping cough can be asthma. Copd pneumonia they can also cause an uncontrollable coffers. Well you see. This is why i say over and overseen acupuncturist because what's going on with the ci of the lungs or the yen aspect of your lungs or the young aspect of along. Because i speak over you know. It's about yin yang being imbalanced so that the body can self regulate and she and blood kin flow throughout the body harmoniously. Because when that's happening the body can heal itself in western terms as coal homeo- spaces. And i say to so renova you know see a physician once maybe twice a year. If you have to see you can you know. Get in western medicine perspective. As to what's going on with you but definitely see your acupunctures or ns acupunctures for regular wellness visit. Because you have to find out what's causing this cough to like really really be out of control because i say it over and over. Health is wealth. The wealth is in the bank. It's not in your pocket. It's not your purse. It's not in a safe. It's not a mattress. It's not in a shoebox closet. It's not the dog house in the backyard. It's in you you know. And if you control is wealth. I mean you control the ability to go and see a physician as well as going to seen acupunctures on a regular basis. And i'll get those same. I don't have time for regular basis. What is regular basis me to you. I'll ask them in chat sessions and in some mistakenly interpreted as going every day every other day every week. No you sit with you. Acupuncture issue determine that because know i treat individuals on a seasonal basis to prepare them to beginning the first day of a new season of doing abdominal acupuncture.

"Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of acupunctures my life now. I take it When i discuss symptoms relative to different types of cancers the lung cancer symptom must've gotten to quite a few view where you wanted me to expand on different types of coughs and i can understand that Because some of you have indicated. I mean interesting. I mean from nigeria south africa japan india the netherlands spain france. Uk canada colombia south america and a few in the united states. I i didn't expect such a response. In such large numbers relative to one particular symptom Via the messaging aspect of the app. And this is why sake so many times if you don't already have the app just if you use android just go to google play store downloaded. It's free or if you're an iphone person to go to the apple store and download it's free but with regard to coughs there's generally four types of cost okay and i'll even start with say dry cough. You know because some of you guys complained. What about a dry cough. Is that a sign of lung cancer and basically it presents his a cough with no form of congestion or mucous to expect the rate. And when it's excessive it can cause your chesterfield sore sore throat it can irritate your airways and a dry cough can be tied to quite a few health issues. Such as Heartburn. let's say sinusitis sore throat asthma. And that's just to name a few from western medicine. Perspective dislike a dry. Cough can be tied to several different types of patterns to an acupuncturist. It can also be due to emotional stress but not not always not always or even an individual who's been affected by. Let's say a wind heat type of pathogen. Because i say so. Many of my Youtube videos as well as podcasts. That wind is an exterior path that carries many different types of diseases with it from viral. Toback till it carries many types of diseases so an acupuncturist. If you've been affected by an exterior pathogenic factor. It's usually tied more time to not not always to win because you you may hear your grandparents have said you know once in a blue in your life when you go out. It's windy or it's cold with your scarf but not make sure you're properly covered even if it's warm outside but it's extremely wendy because our grandparents also knew that wind carries diseases. And you could say oh. I went out. And i let's to use the common cold. I went out. And i went to the store and came back and apparently i caught a cold because his viruses viral pathogen cannot move throughout the air without wind. And that's where you'll hear an acupunctures reference many exterior pathogenic factors as wind. He wind cold wind damp. Because you you've been affected by an external disorder that was carried through the win. So in this case a dry cough can be as a result of a wind. Heat package can be another type of coffers wet cough you know and in this type of cough generally is productive because why is this mucus is congestion in your lungs attempting to expect rate it and many times not all times but many times a wet cough is a sign that there's an infection in your lungs it could be bronchitis pneumonia commutative lou but it doesn't always have to be a serious infection..

But that's if you can afford it like -solutely employ people that are going to work the venue all of that stuff like absolute wrong with like making money off of let's say Helping people spouses. Yeah let this sort of sponsors don't want to attach the name to the event you let him attack name to the event and then that way you can take care of the people you know what i mean. That's all that's it. I mean that's a podcast model. That's gone away way would knock it like you. You put out a book that You shine a light on mental health and that book costs money. But it's still help people. And i'm sure the people that read that book they're like wait a minute for twenty bucks. I got tens of thousands of dollars maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars of wisdom. That really changed. My life bargain. Think all mental health care professionals should get top dollar. I think all spiritual adviser she'd get top dollar. I think all sacred purposes to get top dollar like day. What they do is great at least for me pay for it. I want and i pay for it. Makes me feel better. Yeah pay for what i like. All of those things made me feel better. So it's like whatever bet you pay for the jam that's right we pay for all these things right. "It's under voluntary control. And you mentioned the theater most people when there is a bit of suspense in the or a love scene they will suppress cough and then by the walls. they've been all stop coughing. They've managed to suppress it until the applause rate. So off is under voluntary control. I would put a a a an extra on that in that cough associated with drinking water down the wrong way is more of a reflex. That's more of a reflex which you don't have voluntary control over. I'm off associated with diseases by cold cough. And even with cystic fibrosis. You can decide when to call on how strong you wish to cough. Well maybe some. Some people would have a different experience with that. Certainly that last point but in terms of what you're saying just because people are noticing that the coughing has been able to to be stopped or stifled in a loss of people It's it's a fascinating one. Do you know the differences. What can you tell us about the differences with women. Coughing and men coughing. Well obviously mana bigger. We have big lungs. We have a bigger voice box larynx. We make much loader coughs so call from a man is much more discernible in the theater than a call from a woman operatic ron. I mean you split us from the back right. well. I mean. I've i've never heard some of the performances of well. So women are quite large amana louder but women do moral. Tell us about women. Well if you're looking at chronic cough chronic cough which is quite common in the uk. I picked those that came as no stigmatized because chronic cough is is quite a common problem and much much more common among women especially women aged over sixty and we don't fully understand why that it is but it is a very big issue and they're very little treatments for chronic cost at the moment and yet the faces a quieter so even those perhaps with that maybe on doing it what what do we think about that run. Well i think. The theaters are quieter fish. Because many people in the theater point. Second i think came made a very good point. People are stigmatize. Have frightened of going out with a tall. you know. you don't want to be trapped in theater or cinema and you've got an irritating off because although you will be able to stress it for quite a while that may come a point when becomes almost unbearable. And you've got to do something. Yes there's a message saying. of course. we all hate coughing. If i sit totally still for a time. I do get bit mucus. I know all the tricks about how not to cough. But some combat fire horribly. A slight tickle if you try to control it can become a massive uncontrollable explosion. We're also getting messages about those of you who have confronted people about the various sounds coming from them during a very quiet. Very poignant moment during an opera. My husband leant over to the man sitting beside him in austin to sort out his nose whistle about. He was whistling. I was mortified. says lucy. Let me just come back to you. Find a word anything. Eakin advise about stopping yourself from doing this. Or what else would you like sale nece so this is really interesting. I don't think i've ever treated somebody's specifically for coughing. "Was one of you and with me now on my many messages on this which also concede shortly. Dr kim deans. He's a lecturer in clinical and health. Psychology swansea university who's been monitoring behavioral trends since early in the pandemic and also professor. Ron echoes the former director of the common cold center at cardiff university and an expert on coughing came. I'm going to come to you. I what have you been looking at in terms of our behavior. I am i thank you so much for having me We've been speaking to this group of people since the beginning of the pandemic talking to them about their views. Their behaviors their experiences And we've done a number of times you know the at the very beginning in march of twenty twenty At the end of the first lockdown during the second lock their third lockdowns. We've really been able to get a picture of that kind of individual experience and how they've been preceding and one of the things that actually brought up very early on As soon as we started emerging from that first lockdown is they're feeling that if they coughed if they showed any signs of a cold that it was perceived as a threat by other people so something that before might just be natural to us. You know to to cough to clear our throat. is actually something that is now threatening And there was a lot of you of kind of the others and me to you know so like this is a this. Is you know those people coughing and doing something very scary and this kind of separateness came up a lot on. The coughing was now a threat which is very different. I think a perception something we've heard over and over again from them over the past year and a half and was surprised to i think did initially it kind of made me sad the beginning because this is something that is natural that is now perceived as threatening and as a result of the global pandemic. I wouldn't say it's naturally necessarily surprising in that people's behaviors and the perception of those behaviors. Change a great deal based on context and based on the situations we find ourselves and with a novel pandemic. we're learning a whole new set of ways of interacting learning a whole new set of social norms And the perception of something that assembles. A cough is changing. Yes do i mean we've had is this. Some of them are very funny..

"Better time-tested without addictive irritating. Suppressing aspects of chemicals in these cough drops and cough syrups. So there's a little bit of a cool history here. Since ancient times happen trying to stop coughing it is irritating. And when you're sick and not feeling good and you cough. You can't stop it. You can't sleep and so of course. This is something that we've always wanted to do. And so we've tried all kinds of syrups and herbs route time and we're going to get into those things in eighteen forty seven however a restaurant owner james smith met a salesman named sly hawkins who sold him a recipe for cough candy. That's a great name a check out my cough candy smith cooked. It himself started to sell it. An eighteen fifty two started to sell this product and with the help of his two sons. William and andrew. James smith and sons compound of wild cherry cough candy was pitched and sold to what cure all coughs. Colds hoarseness sore throats whooping cough asthma. And it goes on and on and eighteen sixty six after james death has two sons renamed the company as smith brothers and then trademarked the cough candies and came up with drop instead of candy. So cough drop. I love this kind of little history stuff. Because i was learned so much so cool on the other hand then. The nineteen fifties halls brothers out of great britain then ran jumped into the cough drop recipe game using a basic combination of menthol and eucalyptus. So that's cool cooling relief those are natural plant compounds ladies and gentlemen so way to go. That's usually how it starts. And then somewhere along the line sugar and other synthetics are involved that hit the us market in the nineteen fifties became very popular nineteen nineties. They were introduced all over the world. The mixture of cough syrup alcohol soda and other things started becoming popular in candies like even jolly ranchers. but then with all of these other cough syrups and alcohol. And all these other things they started using than codeine sexually super effective bronco. Dial later but of course he required a prescription for that because the da came in straight away and said. Hey wait a minute you can't use codeine and these then. Laws were instituted. Due to the math production in small labs in the united states so interesting the halls was marketed differently. Around the world and the us they introduced it as a medicine and in brazil argentina peru colombia in the philippines the introduced it as just a hard candy not recognized to be a medicine. For cough one of the ways people abuse codeine cough syrups is by mixing them into alcoholic beverages now this creates an amplification and dangerously intoxicating mix that then got other famous names because it became you know lean out with all the speed called also. I don't know why called the purple drank. And dirty sprite these mixtures became a crazy names for this codeine laced alcoholic cough syrup weird combination that just was simply a way for people to get high. So what are the convenience. Obviously when you suck on a little candy. Create some relief. The menthol and eucalyptus it creates some stimulation there super and potentially help with that the codeine bronco. And help so that you know and it gives you that short term fix and it tastes a little good. It's got artificial sweeteners. And all this other crap and that's another fatal convenience and sugar is that's fatal convenience all of these other things but why should we care so this is really where you don't need chemicals to suppress your cough. That's number one. In at the end of this. I will give you some simple powerful fixes. You can go to that instead of all this stuff but here's where it gets. Tricky and gnarly is the introduction of chemicals as it relates to try to suppress. And there's this one drug that's called deck stroh methyl fan or d- deacs 'em and ingredient in nearly a hundred cough and cold products as of now sold in pharmacies and supermarkets. So this d. xm can alter your mental state. You're going to be shocked k. So this can rearrange. Perception reality create hallucinations or judgment dizziness. Visual changes lack of coordination. And this stuff you can buy so again. The teens and the the younger generation have gotten a hold of this. The symptoms of this are everything from motor function numbness disassociation episodes audio and visual hallucinations. Nausea heart rate variability. High blood pressure agitation. All of the stuff. So then what they teens do is a mix this. Dx 'em with other drugs including alcohol easy easy to do which increases these dangers wants more is these are over the counter. Cough and cold products all over the place often contain other drugs as well as decongestions and other anti inflammatory drugs that are within this all creating dangerous and possibly dangers that can include heart attack stroke and liver damage but it produces a level of high so what this does through these hallucinations. In out of body sensations they're similar to drugs like ketamine and pcp very easy combination by a bunch of cough syrup. Combine it with alcohol. And there you go and it can. Last for as long as six hours this dx m also depresses brain function particularly parts of the brain. That control breathing and heart function super super. Dangerous there's also prescriptions pro methyls zane dash codeine cough syrup. That yet that you need a prescription but kids can get a hold of this in their parents stashes and then they can get all kinds of buzzes and highs and including with alcohol. And the da's all over this stuff so with these codeine prescriptions and this d xm super dangerous for pregnancy especially this opioid medicine. Your babies literally can come out a dependent and addicted on these drugs and this is all what you're trying to do is suppress cough so it gets pretty gnarly pretty quick so overdoses occur all the time with using the d. m. and they're intentionally ingesting large amounts of this cough syrup and some people which is equally more dangerous or simply poor metabolize irs of this so people will fall into the category. Do not metabolize medication as efficiently as the average person. Typically these people should take smaller doses of the over the counter prescription medications to avoid intoxication and addiction. So there's a lot of the stuff. I haven't in the show notes. Also the other area. That dm axe and serotonin create what's called a serotonin syndrome although the d. xm is not by itself an antidepressant. It does act on serotonin pathways in the brain. This is part of why the substance is intoxicating and can cause hallucinations and also means that x m interacts with the psychiatric medications. So now if your kids are on. Add adhd and other medications. This interactions can be very dangerous including antidepressants. ssi ours amodeo. Inhibitors et cetera. These medications are designed to change the levels of serotonin in the brain and can be very dangerous. When mixed and again people these are in the cabinet over the counter these can cause restlessness agitation confusion disorientation dilated pupils access sweating mental rigidity. So a lot of these kids and celebrities have gotten their hands on these things courting to study in two thousand eight one in ten teenagers abused. Deacs m okay. "cough " Discussed on Voice in Canada

"Hey, hey. All right it's Terry here. And today we're going to do the final edition of The Flash. Briefings all about the new sound detection routines. As you may not listen to the past couple of flash briefings we've been talking about this, you can always hear the other ones, the previous flash briefings, I mean on the website at voice in Canada. CA here's the deal. When you go into your Lexi app and you click on the more icon in the bottom right corner, you didn't click on routines and then you can click on the plus sign and you can click on when this happens. Now here you'll see the sound detection and we've gone through this a couple of times before, but the last one is the one we're talking about is all about cough, cough sound. And this one will detect cough sounds during a specified time. Just as little editorial note, this is fascinating to me as a physician because when I bought a smart speakers start to identify signs of illness like a cough or other things. If your voice sounds hoarse, then we get into very interesting scenarios potentially in the future about a song. Speaker diagnosing things. We're not there yet. But with this feature, what you can do is if you click on cough, now you choose a particular Echo device where you're going to hear the car from so choose where you're going to be spending all that time or maybe even create multiple routines with multiple locations. Then you click on next and then you choose the time when you want this to be active, you could make it essentially 24 hours a day if you want. And then once you've done that, then you're going to click on add an action. And this is where again, it gets very interesting because you can do whatever you want, you could have a message sent. If the if it has a cough, you could have lights turned on, you could have alarm go on how long you could have, you know, music come on. So it's really interesting and as I mentioned last time, I would love to hear your feedback.

"Panacea with us from and lime technologies john. Welcome back we've been waiting awhile to get you. I'll come back to home gadget geeks. Thanks appreciate it is going to be back. I know it's been a little slow over there on the unrated side. What kinda give us a quick overview. We were actually last time we had you on. We were waiting for six point nine to kind of come out and it did and then i paint you and you're like i'll get back to you and we. We finally got pulled together but to give us a little summary of of how things been going since the last time we saw you. Things are going really well so obviously six nine Really good release for us. Multiple pulls support huge feature. Really glad that we were able to get that out to people. I think we're just kind of setting the stage with it with other things that are to come and we've been working really hard on version six ten which were hoping to have out to folks pretty soon. A six hundred ten is going to be all about security over convenience. That's the main theme of that release. Were making a lot of changes to the default behavior of the operating system. I mean it. You wouldn't have to look hard to find a number of a pretty big security issues related to storage appliances in the last few months. You know cough. Cough western digital cough cough kidnap You know list goes on and You know we. We started taking much harder. Look at how we were doing things in our operating system and We're not really in. We weren't subject to the same vulnerabilities that those two were in in those examples but There were some other things that maybe our default values which we used to be much more about like. Hey let's just make the super easy to get it so that you have a nas- with shares that you can write to over the network to. Hey let's really make the user think a little bit more critically about security so You know one of the best examples of this is something as simple as the right password so we started on raid Before i was even part of the company you know the modern router or switch at that point in time didn't have a default password. You had to you just got you logged into it. And then you'd set one if you wanted but you could leave it with no password. Now that behavior's changed all the router manufacturers candidate realize you know it's probably a good idea to just put something on the back of the box that the user has to see and so we decided you know that's probably something that we should be doing to so everybody in six hundred ten is going to be forced to cetera password to the system because it means a lot more than just the web So if somebody was able to get into the system Because they didn't have a root password set and was able to actually hit it at the console layer the sat or something. You can do a lot of damage so having a rep password. I think is going to be huge. But that's just one of a number of things that we're changing john. That's a pretty big change when you just kind of think about how long this has been around and and while it makes sense to me are you. Are you what you do. Kinda work with the existing userbase. 'cause you know there are some sets setups out there. That don't have it. You're going to get some pushback from soya folks so what he is about just in in that area. How do you kind of approach. The community can get communicated. Yeah so we've actually been talking with the community on this subject not is not publicly but because it's kind of a sensitive subject we're talking security. There's a lot of different facets to it but we have a number of different community members that are also developers that have contributed to raid and so these discussions weren't just done behind closed doors. We we've been talking to them as well and and everybody seemed to be an agreement that yeah there's going to be a little hooting and hollering probably here and there. But i think that if we just point to a couple of those examples of how much real damage can happen just because you didn't secure it I think that's going to be eye opening to folks and and i i. I don't think there's going to be as much pushback as there might be a little initially but i think it'll be quickly abated And in addition to that. I think you know it's not just even about security. It's about share security so we're even going to have default behaviors. There are going to change as well. Now one thing that's worth mentioning you mentioned existing users we will not proactively change anybody's existing settings on their shares so from a security perspective if you already have shares configured that public when you upgrade to six ten we're not going to automatically set them to private or or take them off of being exported via smb but now when you create a new share on version six ten Smb export will not be by default and the setting will be set to private public by default. So you will have to explicitly tell me. Hey i want this share to public. Or hey i want this year to be exported over over. Smb so that's just a behavioral change. So that folks understand that by default. Whatever they're creating is going to be locked down and then if they want to choose to change that permission level. They're the ones making that choice. 'cause you know you and i both know most people they're just click next next next next next and you get to the end as quick as they can and they don't always understand the implications of that so just by changing this behavior. It's going to educate people that they have to understand what they're doing..
