The idea is to give school systems the chance to experiment. There would remain a minimum number of hours of instruction, but it would be up to school districts to set their own calendars to reach the mark. "All sports group national editor and I'm joined by audible plus editor and British GT correspondent James newbold to look ahead to the new season and I'm also joined by Stephan mackley or sports deputy national editor who will be previewing the new GB three season. So starting to review James, this is a season with major changes taking place in British GT. Lots of different drivers, lots of different teams. And I guess the obvious place to start really is that defending champions, Lea Michele and Dennis lind, won't be back to defend their title. We had originally been expecting them to be on the grizz in barwell Lamborghini, but they now won't be. So were you able to talk us through briefly why they will not be backed this year. Following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, there was obviously significant international outcry and motor sport hasn't been immune to that. Motor sport UK was one of the firmest in its response saying that Russian license holders would not be able to participate, which immediately put the defending champions entry. Into question because Liam machinsky had a Russian license last year he has previously entered under a UK license. But we had the confirmation come through this week that that entry would not be on the grid this year. So barwell is down to one entry for sandy Mitchell the 2020 champion together with Adam Ballon. But even so we've still got a full season grid of 17 GT3 cars. We're expecting 18 at Alton park this weekend. All the signs are pointing to a really exciting season. Different tyres this season, the new DHF compound has been brought in this year. It had its UK debut last weekend in GT cup, and there were quite a few British GT regulars on that grid trying to learn this new tyre. And among them is a driver that has won the last two GT3 pro am championships, just not the overall title. Ian loghi, who is driving solo in the ram racing, Mercedes. That's a real statement of intent from my perspective because loggy didn't do any pre season testing last year when he was paired with yelmer Berman and together they really struggled a little bit at the start of the season, getting into the groove really after a long break. This year in log is not leaving anything to chance on this new tire he's been out running in GT cup solo getting all the drive time himself. He's also been racing in GT world challenge Europe, which is also using the same new tyre this year, just all gaining gaining knowledge and he's going to be joined this year by Zhou Gunn for the majority of the races where there's not clashes with his other commitments as a Mercedes factory driver in Europe. So a really strong driver lineup that's going to be one to watch certainly and gilgun is one of several new faces in the championship this year that will go on to talk about. Yeah, so in Lodi is one of the few drivers that staying with the same team, same car, having some degree of continuity. But as we sort of hinted at before, there's plenty of different faces, different drivers, different teams on the grid. And one of the other Mercedes teams this year is two C's motor sport. And they're back for a full season after a partial campaign last year where they made a winning one off appearance at Silverstone. They've got former McLaren auto sport BRD C award winner Lewis Williamson as part of their team. Alongside experienced historics racer, James cottingham. What do you think their chances could be? Do you think they could be one of the sort of cruise to watch this year? I do. I think they could be a real dark horse pair this year. As you mentioned, two seasons only did the one British GT race last year. They switched to Mercedes after their first year with McLaren's in 2020, where they did win a race at snetterton, but they had a lot of reliability problems and they made their decision to change to Mercedes. And that seemed to pay off last year when Martin quadric and hunter rabbit, whom many people will remember from his days in the British touring car championship turned up to Silverstone and won it. They weren't eligible for points and they didn't do the rest of the season. But that team has a healthy contingent of extra racing employees who know that car very well. Williamson, of course, raced for stacker as well and is being reunited with a lot of the people that he's worked with on that club for when they won the 2018 blanc pan endurance series pro am title. Williamson, this is his first season back racing in the UK since his days in formula Renault, which he was going up against Tom Blount twist for the 2010 formula Renault UK title and it was Williamson who ultimately won the prize test in a McLaren F one car in our end of year rewards. Tests. Williamson, I spoke to for the preview, he's really excited for the new season. He's not too bothered about actually, I said to him, we've got gilgun on a Mercedes factory driver in the other in the ram car. Are you excited to benchmark yourself against him? He said actually that's not really something that I'm looking at. I know what I can do from my days in the strike a car before. And although he's not been racing very regularly for the last two years, that's kind of just down to misfortune rather than any particular choice. He's only actually done one race in 2020 and one in 2021. So this year he's combining British GT with Lamborghini super trofeo. So this is going to be his busiest season for a fair few years. And together with cottingham, he had a really good outing last year in the ram car at bran's hatch where he was overtaking people left right and center very aggressive and his kind of debut in a modern GT car. He unfortunately tangled with Adam Balan at paddock hill bend and ended his day in the gravel trap, but it had been a really tantalizing showing of what he could do in the Mercedes. So yeah, really looking forward to seeing what they can do together with two seas back for the full season. Aside from those Mercedes crews that we've already talked about, who else do you think we should be keeping an eye out for in GT3 this year? Well, the aforementioned sandy Mitchell and Adam Ballon would be an obvious one. Sport has won the last two drivers titles with sandy Mitchell and rob collard in 2020 when they were running as a silver pair and of course last year with Lynn and machinsky. Barwell is a team with the Lamborghini that you can absolutely never count out. Of course, the Lamborghini also went very strongly last year in the hands of Phil keen and Michael igo, the WPI mode support example. That's an unchanged lineup this year. A very quick driver on his day. Unfortunately, lost the chance of taking the title at the final round due to a couple of mistakes on the first lap when had they stayed in the position that they.

"They're in place than they pretty much. Lame their territory and they're low maintenance after that they also tend to spread quite a bit instead of buying a lot of little annuals. You can buy some of these that will last for years and take up more real estate and then use the annuals to accents. One of my favorite plant categories are bulbs. they're fantastic. They're easy to get in the ground and once they're in you could forget about them. Most of them are always come back my favorite time of year or fall and spring. I can just about do without summer and winter hotel. you can have spring without bulbs. It's just not possible. Fall favorite. bob would be the la corus. The spider lily. We've got them all over the place love him. And every time i find more put out more. Just can't seem to get enough of those or spring blooming bulbs we've got early ones late once midseason ones. Daffodils are systems star favorite to work with the deer. Don't like them. they don't eat them. I don't even do tulips if i do. I do a pot on the dick where they can't get to them because they think it's candy. It's great that they won't bother the daffodils at all one of our favorites to the rain lily and that can be native yell like the peak when we get a good heavy rain in two days. They'll be in full bloom again. It's amazing how fast they can throw up a stadium with buds on on. That are bright pink. It opened up into this pale pink flower there about maybe five or six inches off the ground. They are magnificent. But it's just amazing to me. Has something can produce a bloom back week. Can rain in two weeks later. Nothing get good rain in a bloomberg they multiply pretty well. You could do. Vitamin spread them throughout your garden lilies. Oh one my favourite daffodils that i just discovered last year. Is one call snow baby. I'm doing a bed of all white and blue bulbs. So i've got if yawn which is blue got spanish bluebells which are blue and planning white daffodils in there i found this snow baby forced a at a nursery and it is sort of like taytay the yellow short when it's a dwarf up sort of a small little blooms just nice cluster. They opened up sort of a pale yellow. That quickly turns to white face to white. So i went back by more. Of course they'd sold them off. I've already got a catalog in this week. That shows that they have it some ordering next week. How bunches of we have a bad on this crate. Myrtle and we've never really planted anything. We just kind of tossed it around so we finally formed into a bad doing it all and blue.

I would highly recommend it for your garden. it also has other beach light. The new photos comes out kind of a reddish brown. Sorta like the red tips of used to then young age. It sort of gang they like a teenager or something but as it matures it will shape and you could try it some intellectually take on a real nice four. I have one lady. I think she has twelve yard. She says. I can see from every winter in my house. Because i love so nyc is the crimson candles champion. Every one of our friends has at least one plant and we we were dating actually showed up with a branch of crimson candles in bloom. And i thought he was bringing me a couple dozen roses. How about japanese multiple. I don't know anybody could not like japanese maples. They range from green to the deepest burgundies. You can do it in containers on your patio like a say in there for years for your father transplant them out into the yard. Just a wonderful unusual long living plant. You've spa jillian before. People are so surprised when he opened a card up and these leaflets compiling out. There are several geico trees at the botanical garden. We collected leaves when we put a sidewalk down in the house. I had some bailed to me from arkansas. We got some from the botanical garden. We got one from the freight yard and we pressed him into the sidewalk to just kind of commemorate our love kinko's in the special ones. We didn't make it charleston to get one from that trip. And i had a customer that i had to do some great containers for around her swimming pool because she was having a big party. Or something. Like that at the boo. We made her up these wonderful containers. We had the blue days spilling out of the pots has kind of a silvery grey foliage with his sky-blue little flowers that are just unbelievably blue. One of the true blue flowers. Well i did not know at that time that they close up at night so what everybody got after the party. There were no blue flowers. So i'd never look at what now that i don't think of am closing up at night. The hung out to dry right. How about you connie. Oh think minor. Many years back. It hasn't extension the podcast at the hard. You've both been master gardeners for decades and mock you served as president locally in the state master gardener association. What is the master gardener. The master guard program was started way back. When i first got out of college i went to work for a retail nursery in atlanta. This was just the beginning of the master gardener program and they wanted to take. They're afraid to go. And i'll listen if y'all will take it i will take it with you and so we all went together. We were the second group to graduate out of the master gardener. Classes going on for many years now and it's a way for people to learn about gardening in their area and it covers both trees shrubs flowers perennials annuals vegetables. We'd insects you learn about all the different things you might run into and guard. And they're wonderful. People you meet some of the nicest people in the mastercard program. I went through master gardener training in arkansas. And then when i moved to george went through the training again and it's very intense trading. One thing about athens is we had the uga community to help teach. It was just fantastic learning that you do an in exchange. You're expected to give back to the community. There are so many ways that you can do it. You can find your niche yet quite a bit of education but then you also have a lot of opportunity to share that with the community and there's so many different ways you can do it. You can do it whether you're quite the introvert or quite the extrovert whether you want to work outside or you want to answer questions. Mike and i are working at the food. The fact that these regions are so different is part of the beauty of these gardens when people come in from outta town bring them to our garden because it really reflects all of georgia. Bring them to your local guard. One thing that's really big right now. Are the food demonstration gardens. These gardens are not only beautiful. They're educational whether you features about the children's garden at the botanical garden. This was so exciting to watch the children's garden take shape. 'cause i walked past it from car to my office every day as it was under construction. They did such an amazing job. I've just loved this garden. It is one of the most current friendly gardens. I've heard to also very fun if you're just an inner child and you don't have an actual child with you. What they do is it's very low tech. Which i like very hands on which i like it. Lets you just experience thing. There's some baffle aspects to it too. But it's not a playground. There's a lot of native plants around it so you don't realize you're learning about all these native plants. You're just surrounded by them. One of the coolest native plant areas is the pitcher plant. Bog concede different types of pitcher plants. That are native to georgia. I've been on tours where they will open up one of these and see all the disgusting insects at the bottom of the pitcher plants and little eight year..

You've been around basketball for really long time and in a lot of people try to compare k. To different people. Some have said like luca and you might say man. There's some paul pierce like you know the game of basketball. Who would you when you watch. Not even like who. Would you pay your watching like. I'm sure this sounds like man that reminds me of x. Who does cade cunningham. Remind you of when you watch him practice and play. It'd be perfectly honest. I really don't like the comparison game But i understand it right. Kinda give ourselves some reference points or what we think he can become a black comparative to luca. I'm not sure we know what luke is yet. I mean he's really really good but he's just two years into this thing but i see what they mean. What they you know kinda why they compare the size. He doesn't have this ridiculous Like explosively but he's splitting good enough athlete. He can really really pass is a great rebound. He has really good overall game. So i can understand that. The lou comparisons. I understand what people try to compare the deal with his size and his ability to score and make place for teammates I heard people talk jason. Tatum cave thinks score as much as jason does. But i can see some of that as well because he can't play the polls pretty efficiently as well coach. I you know. I think there's so much excitement around cade and a lot of the topics. But i think we always have to let people know. Look these guys. And you mentioned it with luca. They're not finished products. Right case is going to go to the nba. And he's gonna learn a lot of things he's going to have a lot of things to learn. So what do you think is the biggest challenge. He's going to face coming into the nba in terms of his game. What the first thing is everybody's as good as he is right now and so in high school for sure. I was a big big gap between his talent and the talent of guys who was either playing with all competing against and in college. The gap stroke. But not as much as it's gonna strength tonight right. He's gonna be guys even though they haven't been all stars for ten years that are capable of having success okay is going to have to adjust talent level is going to have to continue to be a more efficient three point shooter which we will very intentional about working on with them. Last year he became a forty percent. Three point shooter. And he's going to have to be more consistent getting to the fruit the line at converting when he gets there. Because that's a big car had been able to school at the nba level. Tonight's going to be a tremendous recruiting tool for your for your program with k. Going on a representing organization Do you have any concerns about the shifts of the big twelve and you know the conference and everything that's happened there.
