"Mescaline, I think. Yeah, no, we did ten pages. We did a very ceremonial experience in Costa Rica. And then I wanted to show the flip side. So I went to our field trip health location in Amsterdam where we do psilocybin assisted therapy. So you get the kind of polar opposites of experience. And then I went to BC a place called the enfold institute where experience 5 MAO DMT for the first time. Where's this place? It's just off the coast of Vancouver. Okay, because it's unregulated up there. Yeah, it's legal. Was this the buffo toad or was it the synthetic 5 Emilio? It was synthetic. Okay. They just chose to do that because of some of the environmental considerations. And so yeah, there's a lot to that whole conversation. Yeah, yeah. And what time frame is this like every weekend or how long in between? We started shooting in February and Costa Rica and then we finished up in BC in May. So it was over the course of about three months. And then we looped back in and just by fortuitous circumstance we're getting really ready to do the kind of end takes of revisiting everybody who went through the journey with me at different points and see how their lives have changed where they are and all that kind of stuff. And it just so happened the author urban Welsh who wrote trainspotting was going to be in Toronto and he had seen our sizzle and was like, well, I'm in Toronto. Why don't I do 5 meo DMT with ronin and we'll record it. He's doing a documentary called, I think this is urban Welsh. We'll record it from our Doc. You record it for your Doc, and it'll be super cool. So it ended just a couple of weeks ago where he and I did 5 ME OTM T together. And the cool thing was, is he didn't know there's a difference between DMT and 5 MO DMT. And so it was actually his first experience with 5 MO DMT. And it was such a beautiful experience. It comes out of it. He's perfectly stuck. I'm a flaming mess on 5 me O DMT. Anyone who watches the documentary, if they don't have second thoughts about do 5 ME or DMT after watching me, they're not watching the documentary properly, although I will still advocate it's one of the most beautiful experiences. It's hard to articulate what happens on a 5 MO experience. But you come out of it and there's just a lightness. It feels like everything is easier for some reason. I don't know how to articulate it properly, but the journey is hard, but the outcome is worthwhile at least for me, the journey has been really strong. You know what I actually relate to that, not so much in a mean hard intense, as all halbert hard in my experience, not necessarily. I mean, it's all, it's in the level of resistance. It's as hard as one resists the experience. But what I have to say about that in particular is like aside from all the Supernatural, just totally ineffable, magnitude of 5 Emilio, I would say the after effect for me has definitely been my experience of reality is a bit more diffuse. It's like in a positive sense. Here, but I'm kind of not here. I'm not taking all this that serious. You know what I mean? There's like a lightness, I think, is the word you used, right? It's kind of like, this is all made up. This is all just pretend I'm playing this game and earth, and there's like a healthy, it's not a detachment because it's not like a, it's not like being it's not that one doesn't care. You know what I mean? It's not like a detachment like nonchalant. You're not invested in your life, but maybe it's just like there's less attachment to the physical material realm. It's kind of there, but it's also not there. Like you said, it's fucking impossible to describe. It is. But anyone can understand like a more lightness of being. And I would say universally that's been my experience too. That's been my experience. And so the first time when I did in BC, it was just, I couldn't articulate what had happened, just something felt different to lightness. People talk about there's the book. The body keeps the score, right? And it really felt like there was a cellular reprogramming. Like something in my genetics just changed in that moment. I can't tell you why. When I did it with Irvin, I came out and all of this grief came out of me, you know? My eldest son Jasper, he's in the process of being diagnosed with epilepsy and. There was the tension between my wife and I because just in the way we respond to it and she was feeling a lot of grief around this, you know? And I didn't end. So I came out of this experience and all I wanted to do was hold Jasper. Like I just like the thought of my baby boy. I just wanted to hold him so much in that moment. And that all this grief came out and sadness. And it wasn't just grief about Jasper. I think it was all the grief I haven't let myself feel. And the next day I was talking with staff and reminding him bad and she was sharing how she's been grieving about how this diagnosis is going to change the art because she's such a bright light. He's so smart for 6 year old and he's got such a warm personality and it's just like she was craving all of the ways that what we thought was trajectory we were going to change by virtue of this diagnosis. And maybe not, you know, but she was grieving about the possibility of it. And I realized in that moment that I had never grieved really anything because I've for so long lived a life where I won't accept the negative outcome. It's like going back and it goes all the way back to the story of my father and just like taking the reins of I never had a protector. So I always had to be the protector from a young age and I just were not tolerate anything less than an acceptable outcome across anything and even starting field trip like it was everyone said no, no one would do it. I'm like, no, fuck that. We're gonna do it and I worked and I worked and I worked it and eventually it's just like that hyper vigilance and I've been carrying it all along and what I realized was that because I don't accept a reality in which I would have to grieve in which Jasper's trajectory would be affected. I would do everything and anything possible to make sure he gets to be everything he wants to be. And I'm going to take that. I'm going to fucking fix it until that makes that, that becomes a reality. In a reality where nothing goes sideways, you never have to grieve. You never have to feel sadness. You never have to feel this negative emotion. That's a world that I won't accept. And so I won't feel those feelings. Doesn't mean those few things don't exist in me. It's just that I deny them and I push them to the side because I won't accept that reality. And then, you know, just talking about, I was like, oh my God. How much energy have I put into my life? Working so hard to make sure I never have to feel these emotions. That's exhausting. And it's not the way to live your life. And so that was such a powerful. That was like a concrete tangible thing. And here's where my mind was blown. Right after we have this conversation, I was crying a lot. As all of this grief and sadness came out, I go to the bathroom and blow my nose wiping my eyes and stuff cost me. She's like, oh my God, I just realized something. And I'm like, what's that? She's like, never had

Fresh update on "costa rica" discussed on The Doctor's Farmacy with Mark Hyman, M.D.
"And some foods like bananas are avocados. It doesn't matter so much because you can peel them, but things like strawberries are terrible if they're not organic. Really important. So we can really upgrade our diet by focusing on a nutrient dense colorful diet full of plants. And I mean, if you can grow your own grade, if you go to farmer's market grade, if you can get them from a community as part of agriculture or system, that's great. But the closer they are to their original heirloom forms, the closer they are to being grown in a way that is actually regenerative and organic, much, much better for you. What about fruit? Fruit's great. Food isn't bad. It's what you eat. It's got fructose in it. It's not fruit like high fructose corn syrup that's bad. So, you know, for some of us who are diabetic or very over wheat, you got to be careful, more careful with things like, for example, bananas or pineapples or grapes, which are super sugary. You stick with more berries and kiwis, watermelon. Those tend to be lower glycemic. But make sure if you're going to eat fruit, you eat the whole food, you don't eat, obviously, an empty stomach or food juice, which is terrible, because that actually can absorb sugar more dried food, not a good thing for most people. It's like think of it as candy, it's okay a little bit, but not too much. If you're not sure about how food's affecting you, you can use a continuous glucose monitor. And they're going to become more and more available. There's a company called levels that I'm adviser for. Basically where this patch on your arm and it can measure your blood sugar continuously. And you'll be surprised, oh, God, you know, if I eat plums, my blood sugar goes off the chart, but if I eat a strawberry, I'm fine. So I think we can learn a lot about how our individual bodies respond to different things by using these continuous glucose monitors. Next up is fat. What should we eat in terms of fat? Well, I've written a book about this. But basically you want fat from whole foods. Nuts, seeds, avocados, pasture rich eggs, small fatty fish, like sardines, mackerel herring anchovies, certain processed foods are fine, olive oil is a processed food, extra virgin olive oil. Made in a special way that doesn't degrade the oil is important, make sure you don't leave it out in the light of avocado oil can be used for higher heat cooking. I mean, I think coconut oil can be fine. Organic extra virgin, but for example, I'm going to call lean mass hyper responder where I've got I'm very lean, but my body doesn't like as much saturated fat. So if I eat too much at your fat, I spike my cholesterol. Many people don't. I've had people drop their cholesterol a hundred points eating a diet of coconut oil and butter. You really depends on your own biology. So it's important to check that. Lots of nuts and seeds. They're great for weight loss, diabetes, heart disease, dementia, they're full of minerals. They've got protein, they've got good fats, lots of fiber. What should you eat almonds, walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, macadamia, pumpkin seeds, chia, hemp, sesame seeds, all great, include those in your diet. If you know why I had a salad the other day I put avocados, I put olive oil, I put pumpkin seeds in it. What about meat? Well, that's really controversial. I could do a three hour podcast just on meat. I'm not going to don't worry. At least not right now. But, you know, meat is not bad. If you're eating industrial meat, that's bad. If you're eating factory farm meat, that's bad. If you're eating meat or dairy from animals that have been raised in ways that are destroying the environment and the climate, that's bad. But if you're eating meat that's regenerative or eating wild animals, for example, you're hunter, deer, Elk, if you're eating animals that eat more of a natural diet of grass and a wide variety of plants, they actually can be rich in phytochemicals. It can be if your inflammatory, they can be very important. And it's important to get quality protein as you age because you lose muscle. So it's a really critical that you don't have a deficit of protein as you get older because one of the keys to longevity is keeping muscle. And the only way to build muscle is with other protein or other muscle. Muscle is the best way to gain muscle eating muscle, which is essentially meat. So I think it's important. You can actually supplement with plant proteins. You can't work, for example, I'm in Costa Rica now one of the blue zones, and I couldn't find the goat whey protein alike, but they had this plant protein, but it was sort of jacked up. It actually was jacked up with extra amino acids and extra leucine. So it had 30 grams of protein, but it had two and a half grams of leucine, which is important for building muscle. So you can hack plant proteins, but it's much harder to use those for building building muscle. If you're going to eat me, make sure it's regenerative grass fed, organic impossible, better for you, better for the planet, more humane. And you can get these now. There's a lot of places force of nature while pastures, north star bison. I mean, you can get a lot of these incredible online services that will ship to you directly and aren't really that expensive. So really important, what about eggs, eggs are okay. Don't be afraid of eggs, even though they have cholesterol. That's been debunked even the dietary guidelines have gotten rid of that recommendation. They're great source of protein, vitamins, B 12. Lots of choline, which is great for your brain, liver. Obviously, by pasture raised eggs when possible, really important, not pasteurized, and pasture raised. What about fish? Fish is great. Unfortunately polluted the oceans most fish is full of microplastics and mercury. There is a company that I recently found out about called utopia fish. You can go up to the top of your fish when they source agriculture that's regenerative. It's clean fish that's tested for every metal is super low. So I think it's important. There's also small fish, you can eat like anchovies, mackerel herring. And sardines, which people don't like, but I love them. What about, what about grains and beans? Granted means you're okay, but it depends on your biology. If you are diabetic, if you're massively overweight, if you have trouble with belly fat, you might want to go for a short time without them because they can actually trigger insulin spike. You have to be careful. And you can wear a continuous glucose monitor and see what happens. Oh, I have a couple rice. What happens or I have, you know, pasta, what happens? You can see what happens as you eat these foods instead of just guessing. And rather than be connected to some ideology, look at your own biology and find out what's really going on inside of you. So if you're going to eat grains, eat whole grains, not whole grain flours, like, you know, you can eat black rice, quinoa, buckwheat, Himalayan tartar, buckwheat is amazing. You can actually get these ancient forms of wheat, like ang corn wheat, or wheat, if you're not gluten sensitive. So lots of these are fine. Be sure not to overdose on them because even, you know, a lot of grains can be trouble. Unless you're just exercising like crazy, then you can tolerate more carbohydrate. Same thing with beans, beans are great. Make sure you cook them right.
Carole Baskin Said 'Dead' Husband Don Lewis Is Actually Alive
"Lay off of this one. This one is the one that just blows me away. Carole Baskin's husband is alive. I mean, am I the only one that missed this? Fed to the lines. We all saw this last night. We all assumed he was huge murdered or whatever the case is. Do you remember when all right, so you guys, you remember the hype around it during the pandemic, right? Oh yeah, the Tiger king. You know, everything everybody becomes Tiger king. It was really fun and that it was really annoying. They just passed a bill last year at the end of last year, the Tiger king Bill about big cats. I mean, this guy really all the way up to Capitol Hill. Right. And like, yeah, this is a thing. And everyone start like, it went from this is fun to I hate these people and I never want to see them again. Well, somehow they found themselves back in the news again because Carol has been Carol Baskin's dead husband is more than a lot of breathing and well. Declared legally dead in 2002 after going missing 5 years earlier, has been found alive and well, Don Lewis is resurrection. But yet now they're saying that Baskin is actually talked about this in 2021 and said that, yeah, the Homeland Security has said, yeah, he's alive. I mean, how did people miss this revelation? I mean, this is beginning to be, you know, one of those, you know, Paul McCartney is not Paul McCartney Paul McCartney's dead kind of thing, you know? How did we miss this? People probably hate talking about this stuff, and they probably can't tie your king is no longer popular, but you think somebody would just come up and be like, hey man, you know that's not true. You know he's not dead, right? Well, no. No, anything. You know what? It made for a better story that he was dead. And now there's a little time pass. We can say that he's alive and then they ignite the whatever whatever. 6 months to re air about them. It is amazing though. If I was Carole Baskin, I've been accused of killing my husband feeding him to lions. All these years, then having him legally declared dead and then all of a sudden in 2021, you find out he's alive. It seems like you know, with all the hate that she was getting that she was saying, hey, no, no. The dude's alive. He's in Costa Rica, you know? He said as long as you don't tell people I'm alive, you can keep whatever amount of money you want. That
Why Dr. Vincent Giampapa Collects Stem Cells in Costa Rica
"You brought up something interesting and you talk about our current model of medicine. I have a lot of friends in the medical industry and a medical profession who have done this. And we sort of left this one out here for a little bit. Let's bring it back now. You can collect themselves here, but you collect them in Costa Rica, correct? Yeah, so you can collect them and store them here. But then they'd have to be transferred to Costa Rica and that transfer process is three or $4000 just to transfer them. So that's why we say people. And you can get treated. So if you come to ours, our center there, and frankly, you can see it's called both you look on the web, RMI international dot com. You will see something that looks like rodeo drive in Beverly Hills, and it is an unbelievable state of the art facility, and it's the only facility in Central America that has government license to legally do
Costa Rica: A Place of Healing for Willy Mac
"So what made you go down to Costa then? Obviously that's not cold. You just change a pace, just go and surf and surf instead of snow. Well, you know, I'd spent, like I said, my college career and big sky Montana and I had suffered a couple like horrendous injuries. My first one was, I blew my left knee up, like my first year, not that bad. But I blew up my medial collateral ligament. And that one healed and then maybe I had other injuries too. I broke my jaw like when you snuggled, if you land in a flat, you land and you hit your knee, you hit your knee with your chin. So I had that injury, which was bad. But then I had an avulsion fracture to my ankle, which is like a high speed like twisting and turning where you rip the ligament off the bone and it kind of splinters. And that one really sent me for a loop. Like I couldn't walk. I was in a straight cast for a while. And that one was that was hard to heal from, and I just needed to heal up. And I was like, man, you know, I used to surf a lot. Between high school and so I was like, man, I'm going to coast up, so I saved up some cash. We're down there for pretty relatively cheap, and you could stand on there for three months before you got whatever, go get another Visa or something. And so I went down there, I bought a ticket, I think it was like February to February March, April, may. I did a three month deal. And I didn't want to come home, man. I was freaking loving it. Hey, all you do is surf every day. And eat fruit, rice, beans, and fish. So you just get your shit gets tight,
What Made an Injured Willy Mac Return to Golf?
"Some, I had some pretty bad injuries, and I was like, man, oh, and what the hell am I going to do? I was trying to heal my body up and I saw pain and. The U.S. open Hearst number two, which I played the north south when I was real young and Donald Ross junior when I was real young and I just like fuck. Man, that is sick. I was like, I was blown away. I was just kind of lost in like, what am I going to do? Am I going to go back out in Montana? I just healed my body and Costa Rica for three months surfing every day I was in the best shape of my life actually. Eating well and feeling like a million bucks and I was like, man, I don't know. I knew every girl. I knew every run, I knew everything about Montana. I was like, I'm either going to go out in France or chamonix or Whistler, maybe, or whatever. And I saw that and it just turned me. I literally started hitting balls in the next
Ken Fish Has a Gift From God: He Prays for People and Stuff Happens
"You're traveling all kinds of places and you pray for people and stuff happens. There are a lot of people that don't believe in the miraculous, and I would think if they would hang out with you, that would go away very quickly because you have a gift from God where you pray for people and stuff happens. And I grew up in a world where that never happened. And I think the people need to know God is alive, and it doesn't mean he's going to answer our prayers just because we want him to, but he does. And he can, and we need to know that. So you where have you been recently and what's been happening? You mentioned something about angels and Costa Rica. I love this stuff, so what's cooking? Well, let's start in November. November was a really busy month. I was only home four days, although admittedly, 5 of the missing days were because I went to Texas for Thanksgiving with my wife, my daughter to visit my other daughter. So anyway, but in November, we went and did a meeting in Ohio and two people who were in wheelchairs got out of their wheelchairs in that meeting in Ohio. And the one woman, she was in an electric wheelchair, which I mean, to me that is an indication that it's worse than just standard wheelchair, right? Because with a scanner when you can at least push yourself over along if you need to. But anyway, she got out of her wheelchair and ran around the sanctuary and then when she finished that lap, she fell on her face, not because she fell, but she, as we say, hugely. She fell on her face, bowed down and was weeping and her husband stood there weeping because his wife had gotten out of this

"Started the show in Columbus. Hercules Gomez for a game between the U.S. and Costa Rica Costa Rica come into this one. Having won the last three World Cup qualifiers between these two teams and 5 of the last 7 in herky got off to a terrible start for the Americans, Ronald mathan the cross, he shared fuller the goal 59 seconds in the U.S. was behind panic stations hurt. Incredible, it's a direct ball over the top, little flick on, stepping comes out, makes himself big, good there, but watch this little back heel by Brian Reese. Maybe he's a 107 years old, but the experience is there. Ronald Martin Rita, good little ball across and fuller. This to me, I don't want to put it on stuff, and it looks like he was thinking the guy's offside. He wasn't offside, may have had something to do with it, but then how about this? This is just a straight lasso. I don't care where you are, what part of the world do not give sir junior desk time and space in the box Ronald matria took him to his left foot and Serge in your desk took all of it. Yeah, and he beat Kayla novice and made it look pretty easy. How about the buildup in this play her 9 of the 11 American players touch the ball? This is something we haven't seen too much of through qualifying. Yeah, it's great movement by Timothy wear right there. And then it brings it back, brings it across. He's looking for western McKinney goes over McKinney and yunis Musa younes is just so good at covering grounds so good as technically in plain simple. But do not give this man any time and space. What is he good at? One V one in the offensive end, he made him pay. Best U.S. goals in some, maybe Jermaine Jones, 2014 World Cup, penalty shot for Costa Rica in the 37th. Was it a pen? That's a pen. That's a stone cold penalty. Chris Richards, this is unfortunate for Eunice. Unis right there leads the ball to moya moya's gonna hit this and Chris Richards stops the shot. Not the ball. He stops the shot with his foot. This was a penalty. So Costa Rica getting a bad break with the no call there in your opinion, a real bad break. You're not served out at the half Lowell mode that comes in and her. This would play a part. At least in my opinion, this would play of course. In the U.S. eventual game winner, but there was almost a game winner for Costa Rica in the 56 Brian Ruiz until the parachute came out. Oh, the parachute, the sled with weights, whatever you want. His miles Robinson with a terrible giveaway lasted days ago to Chris Richard square ball. Brian Reese, meet me, no, no, no, no running a day. That's miles Robinson, catching back up, but this is what Costa Rica is today and in this fortunate play here, a little through George weight, and you said it more data comes in, he's cold, gets beaten his near post, own goal. Totally on more, all right, now this is gonna save that ten out of ten times. Yeah, I would say so that's his post he should save it ten out of ten times. That one time it doesn't go in, that's the time off his back. Timothy waya, he won't care if he gets credit for it or not, that's the eventual game winner. He doesn't. It goes in the books. As an own goal on more of the backup goalie for Costa Rica, definitely want a another shot at that one. The U.S. would continue to pressure continue to search for a third for that insurance. Brendan aaronson put it to the back poster, somehow Matthew hoppy keeps it in and Ricardo Pepe just denied the shot. Okay, Matthew copy, just he wants to keep this in the fight to keep it simple. But watch the intent to hear when he got out of the peppy. You already knows what he wants to do. Three guys go with the fake duarte recovers very nicely though. Set piece danger late 87 minute Bologna puts it in. It falls nobody wants a P 7 at Brian Rees on the doorstep. Oh, the Americans might have been bailed out by that whistle there her. Yeah, absolutely. So what are your comes in? So does Watson and so's Bologna's a sepi specialist and two very good guys in the air. You can't give up a free kick in these instances. They do it not once, but twice. It didn't start well, but all's well that ends well. The U.S. wins two one. Here's Greg berhalter postgame. You know, I think the mentality to take every game at a time. And give.

"Brad tonight, 20,000 strong, the majority varying the red white and blue and hoping for a memorable evening. Here comes matter Rita for Costa Rica. And the rival is good. Exactly what I'm going to do with it to the jaw of the United States. We've come out in absolutely punched the United States right in the mouth. Now how do they react over the next 5 to ten minutes? Going to have a huge impact on whether or not they're going to have a say in this game. His desk. Just like his fresco for the U.S.. It's in Timothy where celebrates the luck of the United States here in Columbus. It's two one with a huge goal from Timothy way up. Of this team is really well, you know, we help each other. We're playing like a team. We faced a lot of adversity so far throughout this qualifying process. The team stuck together dug in and I was really happy with the performance after the first medical. Football. America is underway here on ESPN. Plus circuit.

"Made a great point on the broadcast of saying he's got to take that first time. If he applies a touch to it, the angle is going to be cut down, chance go wanting. And way it knows that. You can see in the replay, it's really all instinct. It doesn't even look like waya is looking at goal. He just kind of knows he has got great spatial awareness, positional awareness, knows where he is. And he blasts one. I would have liked it to have gone to him as the goal, but I'll take an on goal certainly. Good for Tim Wei, man. He's dealt with injuries. He's been kind of in and out of the lineup. And I was happy that again, own goal, but credit to him for making that happen. Yeah, he's not in my starting 11 when everyone's fit, but he's been a busy presence. And lively, like you said, where is where? He popped up somewhere. That front three seemed to be fairly fluid. He's, you know, credit to him, he kept going. Like I said, I'm not, I'm not fully convinced that he gets into my starting 11 when everyone's fit. But we needed them tonight. And the interesting thing about that too, when Kayla navis went out at halftime, we kind of said, I wonder if this will will rear its head in some way. Goalkeeper winds up an uncle. Yeah, and it nearly did on a cross later on as well, which he came in completely missed. And I think the fact that he came with such. Unrequired conviction because he really wasn't going to get anywhere near that ball. It put Matthew hoppy off who'd come on to play center forward. But yeah, the psychological blow that was for Costa Rica to see someone as secure as novice coming off. This key for coming on Marrero was you could see it. You could see it even in the way they defended. And then really from there on out the U.S. continued to apply pressure didn't get that third goal, which really would have been nice, obviously. Didn't create a whole ton after that. Not really. To be perfectly honest with you. That is the thing for me with this team at the moment. I think there's a lot of possession of the ball. There's a lot of good movement. There's some nice combinations. But not enough end product. And I think they should have been further ahead than they were at full time, but again, after such a shocker against Panama, you just needed to finish with a positive here. And three points. Absolutely. You know, that what you talk about the end product, things like that, I think if there was one thing that this is kind of now bridging from the game into kind of like greater overreaching topics of this team after these three games, there's one thing I'd like to see them improve that can help in that area of extending leads. I think set pieces have got to get better. They just don't really in these three games. They just didn't look threatening. I think aaronson may be, it seems to play in a better ball. Yes. But it doesn't feel like they're getting close really. And some of that, it only takes one to completely change our mindset on running. They had one little clever routine, which didn't quite come off. But I like that they're doing that. Yes. But there was a point during the spring summer, especially in the tournaments where me and you thought were pretty dangerous on set pieces. And we were against Mexico, but the delivery since then have not been good enough, and we need to do more with them because please God and his blessed mother when we qualify for a World Cup will play against better opposition where maybe chances are more of a premium. And we'll need to have something in the locker from set pieces. Absolutely. I'll tell you what, let's take a quick break. We'll come back on the other side. We've got a couple of things we want to talk about. Some of our standout performers who looked a little bit shaky, like we said our preferred 11 as we head into the next three World Cup qualifiers. So there's still a lot to do. You have a mailbag prepared as well. So yeah, lots to get to here on a victorious victorious Wednesday night in the United States. More caught off side still to come. There are some things in life that I like to pick out myself, so I know I've got the ones that's best for me..

More caught off side still to come..
Nicaragua: How to Write Yourself Into Exile
"There is only one good thing to be said for the spectacle of a given government picking on writers and novelists and artists of any description. It saves the busy bypass whatever valuable time. They may have spent wondering whether the government in question still has all marbles in one sock when a given government starts picking on writers and novelists and artists of any description. It is announcing itself as tyrannical foolish and deranged. Such is the unhappy if altogether unsurprising point arrived at by the regime of daniel ortega president of nicaragua as demonstrated by its issue of a warrant for the arrest of sergio ramirez. Probably nicaragua's best known and most admired novelist. One time winner of the guel devotees prize awarded by spain's ministry of culture to recognize outstanding spanish language literature and therefore a peer of borges for enters vargas loeser and pass among other distinguished scrivener's any has split wishing to note at this point that the warrant has been issued by nicaragua's state prosecutors and not by the presidency has not been paying much attention to the evolution of ortega's thinking vis-a-vis the separation of powers ramirez. Who took the clearly sensible precaution of leaving nicaragua a few months back and is now resident in costa rica stands accused of inciting hatred and conspiring to undermine the integrity of the country. What ramirez actually appears to have done is written a novel entitled tonga. Lali did not know how to dance. An exceedingly thinly veiled parable set in contemporary nicaragua. who's people being terrorized by overstaying revolutionary government. Which has long since abandoned whatever principles may once have animated it and is now concerned only with maintaining power at any price up to and including the blood of its own citizens

Us dollars the one way cost of the adventure about thirty two us dollars. The actual adventure priceless. I love taking the bus in. Bow along the coast. It was five times cheaper and with airport traveling waiting. The travel time is only about two hours longer my visit to osa peninsula. "Cost of travelling in costa rica twenty twenty one costa rica's one of the most beautiful and biologically diverse countries and central america. It isn't cheapest country in central america. My first time visiting costa rica twenty sixteen. I created our global transformational retrieves. Which in the link in the show notes. You can follow that for an article about retrieves as a result. My approach and budget was heavily. Business focused in the summer of twenty twenty. I began to make plans for leaving. Atlanta georgia would. You can also check out on the blog and show and i decided to make my first taught for my travel to seven continents that would be traveled to costa rica. I started to explore the country. Virtually decide where. I would go on my second visit to costa rica and i set up my budget and estimated expenses for lawford tuna month of air them in well antonio and san jose for my three month visit from january to march twenty twenty one in some ways. I went under budget for my costa rica. Travel 'cause which. I also shared on the show and blog back through january through march and in some ways over budget like since surprises and manuel antonio with my originally booked airbnb. That didn't quite go as planned. And those of you that have been following along. I may creating adventuring series. Know all about it. If you're curious you can also go back around March february march. And i share that in the recaps for the week and i decided to visit costa rica again. For the third time. I started taking action with creative ways to make money which you can also go to the link in the show notes to find that blog and show and decrease expenses before you skipped traveling costa rica. Because you think it's out of your budget. It's definitely possible to visit without breaking the bank. Let's talk about the cost of traveling to costa rica for my visit to the south of costa rica and the simple in peninsula for august to september twenty twenty one for my last visit and costa rica in january through march. I spent about forty five hundred dollars for three months. on average. this is about fifteen hundred a month slash fifty dollars a day for this visit to the south of costa rica. i challenged myself to lower it. Further typically the osa peninsula is more expensive than other parts of costa rica. especially because it's more remote. I knew i had a challenge in front of me to make money reduce expenses and rose to meet it. I lowered my expenses by over a half for the month to about eight hundred dollars including travel stay food transportation and adventures. The average per day ended up being about twenty five dollars. I'm pulling back the curtain on travel costs and living expenses in costa rica in twenty twenty one during my stay in mid august to mid september. Here's my monthly breakdown for my stay. And i shifted it and the approach to a different format in case you listened or looked at it from my last couple of travel. Recaps on costs But it still shows you like you know the comparisons. So could i have saved more by not eating out all our cutting an adventure schorr at the same time. I'm constantly innovating ways to make money reduce expenses. In addition i eat healthy. Don't drink cook over. Seventy five to eighty five percent of the time and find free things to do to during my time in costa rica. I visited a river right by cindy's three times tropical rainforest part of the property next door countless times and beach for free several times my stays were about one hundred thirty dollars for san jose and drake bay covering four nights the rest of my stay was hosted with press trips and digital marketing. And you can tune in on that on the blog and show transportation hundred thirty by old total. My transportation was three hundred fifteen. Us dollars including flights To costa rica from mexico flights from costa rica el salvador bus two times to and from osa peninsula two boats one from sear drake bay and one from puerto jimenez to veto uber's and electoral votes food was about one hundred eighty five dollars including eating out groceries and herbalife adventures. Were right at about one hundred sixty dollars for island and kenya. And that's not including you guys one thing. I do want to mention that super important. And i was realizing this afternoon is putting together. A guy. some guides or other brands is also keep in mind for me. Travel insurance is a constant. So i invest about eighty dollars a month for travel insurance and currently. I'm using. I am g and actually it is required for travel to costa rica. If you don't have a vaccine and for me. Regardless i would have it no matter what and then also cova test is not required to come into costa rica but depending on where you are traveling next it will be required for you. After so for example returning to the us it is required that you know but keep in mind. Things are changing constantly. Do and of course depending of you're vaccinated not vaccinated to el salvador. The pcr test is required. Which is where. I'm headed next. And i actually went to go do that today. And i definitely recommend you are in san jose like two days before your travel if you need a pr test because it typically takes up to a day to get the results and it's one hundred dollars. Currently i went and got my test this morning at lab in and they actually sent me my results by like four o'clock so took i would say roughly about seven hours but they do have a window of up to twenty four and i gave up to thirty hours just to be safe and although there is testing at the airport if you need to do a pr and you need it like fast. The pc our test at the airport and under three hours currently in san jose is two hundred and forty dollars. Because i did my homework before. Re before. Coming to san jose this time because i wanted to stay the night angle fito but then when i realized those parameters and the test results and the cost it was like nope..

Yellow fish and more our visibility was great for about ten to twenty feet even with the rain the day before it is well worth the experience before our second stop. We had fresh watermelon cookies and water so awesome. The second stop was by lots of rocks. I saw turtle pufferfish and more so incredible. Many of us on the boat connected with meeting a family from pulling family from madrid family from barcelona and more. We also swam for a while. And i got a bit early because i got cold without a wet suit even swimming in shallow waters on our way back. We had pineapple cookies and water as well. Everything already so magical yet. If you can imagine that with such a surprise on the way back was seeing five humpback whales that put on a whole show for us coming up and down for over an hour balon chedli. Chaucer was amazing right when we walked in. They had the food that we pre-ordered ready. It was awesome to walk in and have the food. I had this issue with the but the corners. Oh my god to die for. I love the scindia watermelon juice. I highly recommend adding canoe island to your travel to costa rica and the osa peninsula for up-to-date kanye island tour experiences visit tropical escapade getting to drake bay since kenya island is a protected biological reserve and people. Don't stay on the island. The closest place to go is drake bay. Getting there is quite the adventure. Let me tell you. Initially i debated either flying from san jose after landing from mexico with a connecting flight. Me overtime was less than two hours the same day so i fell a bit concerned. And addition i learned about the adventurous and less expensive way to get to drake bay vm. I tand feet by going by bus and boat. I decided to go this way. And i'm so glad. I did after spending the night at an airbnb in san jose. I took a direct bus at eight thirty a. m. with your copa from san jose. Serpa for about twelve. Us dollars once. We got to see her back. Took the four pm boat. Twenty dollars from your bed to drake bay that literally takes you through mangroves in the ocean to the shore what adventure. "So i'm zac. Smith and anywhere dot com is my business and a professional pursuit. I've been at for many years. I'm currently living in los angeles. And how old are you. I'm thirty seven years old. And so what is anywhere dot com. We try to make it easier for people to explore really fun. Places generally thought to be more complicated places. Costa rica peru ecuador. and what have you. Yeah our goal is just to make it easier for families and couples to go explore the world and your website. Anywhere dot com. So i mean that sounds like a pretty generic name so it must have been connected by the domain. Yeah it was an investment in our brand. We really needed to centralize who we are. And what we do in the past. We were really focusing. On one market not was costa rica and as we steadily expanded into other markets such as anywhere panama anywhere peru etc were just juggling multiple domains and so bringing all of that content and our brand into one unified website just became a long term investment in our real vision for what we want to do and accomplish and so new people will work in your company and revenues from last year. We have around fifty people that contribute daily to the business. Some of them are contractors or partners. A number of employees but actually in the united states we only have three employees are revenue was just north of ten million last year. So i guess you're thirty seven years old and it sounds like pretty cool job that you have here. I guess you're trying to make people have a better vacation. Is that the idea. Yeah really the world. We live in right now. We believe that experiences are kind of social currency of today so that means going to new exciting destinations and travel in general becomes a big heart that our goal is to assure that the experiences go flawlessly. Take away a lot of the headaches. Disappointments that can happen so people spend a lot of time anticipating a trip but really the only have seven or ten days when they're actually there and if there's even one thing that goes wrong or a couple of things go wrong it can really sour the entire experience so we're accountable to that and we do a planning process that ensures that there's no regrets

The Friendliest Countries
"Is a fun episode. I'm not really sure it'll be on your list and guys this is why specifically. I'm gonna ask you to give us your list on instagram at extra packing peanuts. Let us know the from these countries because this is a term that can mean a lot of things with a lot of people and it's very dependent on your specific experiences in those countries right. Because you know everyone's going to have different experiences that was. That's what's fun about traveling. Someone could go to a country. That's there's someone aspect or i didn't. I didn't see this that friendly. It's because you're obviously having your own unique experiences. I have an honorable mention. Okay and i want this be on the list. And but i'm just gonna put on mention and then move on and maybe talk about a little later but australia. It's on my list. It's pretty high at my awesome perfect and then we can get into australia than that. Yeah we'll get into that okay. Cool well then here. We go each have five. We're gonna countdown again. We always tell you we. When we do the list episodes. I don't know how she doesn't know my so. There might be some crossover. I don't know what's on harris or where it is. She doesn't mind so and you always lead it off ladies first number five. My number five is cambodia. And i have to say that. This is because of one person individually the nicest human. We have ever met dr as. I have said this multiple times on other podcasts. that is boondi and there are other people in cambodia who are really nice too but boondi was driver the very first time that we went to cambodia and you know we have since seen him again. When we've been we've connection on social media you know we're facebook friends. He is one of the loveliest people we've ever met in the world and so therefore cambodia has to be on my list. Yeah he's the i will say. This is the nicest person i've met ever traveling. And i debate putting cambodia on the only reason i didn't was because we haven't had that much experience with a lot of other people. They're the people we have have been super friendly so again. This comes down to like. What are you considering. You know this gut reaction again. It was harder for me to make this list i think. Then he'll is the nicest human we have ever met and the gentlest soul. We've ever met and an absolutely phenomenal individual. That many of you listening. If you've been to cambodia and been to see him reap have used him as a driver before based on us recommending him and he is. Everyone has come back and said. Oh my gosh everything you say about plenty is completely true and you probably even under sell like i. I can't believe how nicest guy so if you go to see him reap. We have a post on our website. One extra peanuts take the two minutes to find it. Get his number and e-mail boondi you will be. It's the best two to three minutes you could ever because he will make your experience. Incredible and I can't wait for the day. That we get to see him and his wife and his family again because they are absolutely lovely people My number five. And i'm going to stay in that same region carry on because i put thailand on and i also have talent on my list but yeah we'll talk about it now just different cultures different people but a lot of similarities. Because you're in the same region and you know it's called the land of smiles and we have spent more time in thailand than than most other countries that we've been to and we have more people there just because the way we've traveled through. And you know everyone is just. They're just happy to to be a lot like there's a there's a happiness that permeates that culture where you could have someone who in our is you know is poor and and has job. Maybe we wouldn't want to do or something like that. And he's sitting on a boat cutting up pineapple as we're on a on a little trip out to this island and he's just smiling so big because he's just on a boat cutting pineapple and it's delicious and we're having a good time because reverend good time. This guy's having a good time. So thailand just overarching. -ly deserves its name. The land of smiles. yeah. I definitely agree with that. It's higher on my list. It's number two and every time we've been to thailand which has been quite a few times as trump said. We spent a lot of time there. One full month just in chiang mai meeting type people. They're always so friendly and we went to tie wedding. not uninterested. area was our friends hometown and we didn't know that many people there because it was her family and her friends of her family was huge. Like two hundred plus people. Everybody was so friendly than we actually went out after the wedding with some of her closest friends and it was just such an experience. Yeah we we've met so many wonderful friendly people thailand okay. So thailand's you're number two. But what's your number four my number four co stabby guy So we have been in costa rica now for two and a half months which is one of the longest times we've ever spent in another country. Of course right. I think this is the longest continuous. We've ever been in another country other than when we lived in japan. Yeah i think so and that being said everyone here is really friendly. And we don't wanna leave. I mean the eighty five and sunny and paul has to do with it. But the i mean all that's great but the people as everyone who's traveled knows. Yeah the people make the travel experience what it is and from the day we got here even actually before we got here. I was looking for a babysitter hours in like this. Tamarind facebook group like so many people are sending me. Hey this person that person you know. I was like wow. Everyone seems really really helpful. And then we got here and not only are people helpful. But they're just overly nice and same thing like heff foster her watch in the ocean and we put a thing on that facebook group again and saying. Hey we lost his watch and all these people were tagging this other guy who like two weeks before said he founded apple. Watch wasn't the same one but you know just random strangers are like trying to help us get this. And that's just the strangers. That's not even the amazing people that we've really bond with probably a lot of ex- ex- goes yeah but all the all of the local costa rican people who are called tikos yep. They are so friendly from the guard. Who is at our condo. Who the hell on how who speaks very little english but is so kind and so lovely and is so engaged with our children like it's the point where like of course we're we're walking a lot more leaving we're walking and he says hello you know like pure vida and what's up my friend but then even in the car leaving and he wants to come over to the car and we put the windows down he talks to the kids. The kids pounds. He is just wonderful. And that's just one person mean our nannies. Here are costa rica and they are lovely and so wonderful and having vitus to a birthday party and bring the kids crafts in toys for them to play on just like welcome us into their lives and it's just yet people are great. It's really nice very welcoming community and yet to the point that wit sometimes wakes up in the morning and he goes. Where's on hell is on l. out at the You know out at the entrance. Where the fords. I don't know we'll run out there to go find on l. First thing in the morning. So yeah i i'm with you. Costa rica definitely a magical place. And i think that when it don't look at my most are looking for the audio heather is blatantly. My list is off. The table have looked at his list. And so i followed and wear his vision by number four. I mean i guess at this point rica on your list and you just tell my number four interest. My number four is one. That i'm not sure i was happy to have this on the list. Because i'm not sure. It's going to make your list or nine and this and australia are very similar to me. In the way that the people like to just enjoy life and that is ireland. Okay yeah i know what. That's a good thought. That's a really is not on my list kind of forgot we went. There wasn't the first gut reaction country to be on my list. But when i looked at a map usually you and i will look at a map just to just kind of spur some inspiration and i pulled up the map when i was going through and i was looking at europe like spain. People are pretty nice. Portugal was really cool. Italy annex saw ireland and mike ireland. Yeah like to me some of the experience. We have an ireland per personify friendliness. Like they just want to have a crack right crack meaning a good time so you know irish are known for wanting to just have a good time. There was plenty of nights. We'd be sitting in pubs. Music would start flowing. People were talking like again. There is really open. Friendly and enj- enjoying life

E-Eggs Track Turtle Traffickers
"Take note. If you're thinking about stealing eggs from the nests of sea turtles on the beaches of costa rica. well you may wind up getting more than you bargained for because researchers have combined. Gps technology with three d. printing produce. Decoy eggs that look and feel like real turtle eggs but can track where traffickers go when they swipe these endangered embryos the egg saving efforts are mapped out in the journal. Current biology some finds sea turtle eggs to be a delicious seasonal treat. Others think they're an aphrodisiac. Which has produced a thriving illegal market the mock turtle eggs were crafted in response to something called the wildlife crime tech challenge a program sponsored by the us agency for international development. Scientists led by kim williams kyanne of paso pacifico conservation organization device the decoys. They drew their inspiration in part from popular tv. Show says paso pacific executive director. Sarah ostrom kim's idea to put a tracking device into the league came from an episode of breaking bad where the police hit a. Gps transmitter in a shipment of raw materials for methamphetamine lab. The first challenge was getting the eggs substitute just right. We started with the size and dimensions of the turtle. Egg trying to figure out. How much do they weigh. What's their texture. How often squishy are they. What's their color then. The sorted out the electronics cell phones very widespread throughout the world. And we realized that if we could just use a sim card and a gps gsm technology. That's used in cell phones that even if a beach was remote from a cell tower if it was headed to a market somewhere would eventually pass by a cell tower. And the decoy aches could transmit to one of these cell towers. Finally it was time for a field test. I was actually the person who put the eggs in the nests. Helen physi- of the university of kent. And so it was really a case of deploying decoys into the nests and seeing if they Happens when they as you get. Taken fiji planted a decoy egg. In one hundred one. Sea turtle nests on four costa rican beaches about a quarter of the decoys got snatched some malfunctioned but others gave trackable signal. One wound up at a bar about a mile away but another traveled an impressive eighty five miles from its nest. Physique kept an eye on its progress from her cell phone and basically was moving further and further inland And eventually it. Stop so zoomed in on on the like google maps basically and it showed me very very clearly that it gone behind a supermarket like some sort of akali seep market loading by kind of area which was pretty suspicious is now really re not reason to really be there unless you unless you're up to up tonight good. The decoy hung around the loading dock for a time before making its way to a nearby residential property the fact that it spent two days in so waiting suggests that it may been handed over to a trafficker who sold it to someone else perhaps even the consumer that really fits we what we know about the illegal trade of xing. Costa rica reunited fanatic. Total information from interview information that exists old door to door and it seems likely that this is what's happened so yeah. We're very happy with that result. We've we've proved the concept that you can actually use these x. fee says. She hopes the decoys which they've dubbed. The investigators can help to really crack down on the illegal poaching of sea turtle eggs and reduce such operations to shell of their former selves.
