"If I heard you correctly what you were describing there is a sort of a daily, you put it in the context of a kind of a daily thing that you can do. Would you be willing to describe it in a little bit more detail if we wanted to do economy practice formally? How would we do that? What does that look like? What are the instructions? Well, usually it would start out in our tradition with startup with doing meta first, but you could go directly to equanimity. So one step to take is to I'm going to put a little spot for Sharon. Sharon teaches equanimity beautifully. Sharon salzberg. And I have equanimity online at Dharma seat also. The way I teach it is I would teach meta first to develop a heart of meta for yourself and then go do the individual beings that we go through oneself, benefactor, dear friend, neutral person, and then difficult person. And then all beings, all beings is really helpful for a lot of people. So that then when we go from meta, usually when I teach equanimity, I do. The first days of meta and then we go on to equanimity, where we are developing equanimity with meta already in our hearts. So we're not going to do them at a practice. Now we're going to do the equanimity practice. And actually equanimity, you know, it has these individuals that we go through. Equanimity starts with a neutral person, because with that neutral person, we can more easily develop equanimity towards that person. So the phrases are different. The equanimity phrases are, they're more like statements. They're not offerings. They're more like statements of understanding. So an equanimity practice we're understanding how to be economists within us so that we can understand with equanimity, that person we are relating to. So one understanding would be pleasure and pain arise and pass away. This is how it is, and there are other things like gain and sorrow arise and pass away. This is how it is in life. So in that way, these are phrases that have to do with wisdom where we're coming to understand their deep meaning. So we start off using particular phrases and maybe we use a phrase like may you have balance in your life and then maybe we go on to a benefactor and we use a phrase like birth and death are part of life. These are phrases that are very wisdom oriented. They're not like sending equanimity to that person. They're very oriented towards understanding that this is the way it is right now. So say now next you go to a person that's close to you. And then you remember something about that person that they're going through that could be very difficult. And then you remember that situation that person and then you will say a phrase like this is how it is in your life right now. This is how your life is unfolding. May I open to how it is in your life right now. And so you're always in your phrases developing that kind of wisdom that's going to align with how it really is in life. And this is what brings equanimity that we're not reacting to it, that we're aligning in ever deepening ways. To the unfolding of life. And I think that's what you mean when you say these are wisdom phrases because they direct us to the truth, however, uncomfortable. Hopefully in a way that allows us to relax into it. In terms of the instructions, I just want to repeat them back to you just to make sure I've got it. From what I heard, you would advise, you know, if you've got the time to start with some meta or loving kindness practice, so we might sit in a reasonably quiet place, close our eyes, bring to mind an easy person and vision this person or your dog or your cat send them the classical phrases, which are often maybe happy maybe safe, healthy, live with ease, move on to yourself, a mentor, benefactor, a neutral person, a difficult person, or a person with whom you're having difficulty. And then all beings. So once the mind is tenderized with a little bit of love and warmth, then you could move to this equanimity practice that you described, which would be, again, to call specific people to mind, maybe an easy person yourself, and then go from there. And to say phrases that direct your mind and perhaps maybe as somewhat of an offering the mind of the person who's your meta tag or your equanimity target in the moment of gain and loss or inevitable. Birth and death are inevitable. To put us into in this mind state of, this is the way things are. Right. You were really good at mentioning all of that, Dan. Yeah. So you reviewed it. Well, and you might even use the last phrase, which is sometimes hard for people to get. The last phrase has to do with karma, the actual traditional phrase, which is all beings are owners of their karma. Their happiness or unhappiness depends upon their actions and not upon my wishes. All beings are owners of their karma. Their happiness or unhappiness depends upon their actions and not upon my wishes. So I have shortened that phrase when I'm working in equanimity practice with my own children, for example, to say, all beings have their own journey. That's it. Because inwardly I do understand that now my children are grown and seen them go through a lot. And I could never really control their journey as much as I tried, you know? And to say, you have your own journey. And also include in that is a meta, I could say that you have your own journey and all beings have their own journey, included in that is a deep understanding in my heart that I'll help you as much as I can, and I know that the unfolding of your life is really beyond my control. So that's karma, too, understanding of commisso got woven together. How does that work? Are you able to achieve some sort of equanimity when it comes to your own children? More. I have not been always economists with my children. That's true. I just have blown my top sometimes, but I never really harmed them physically, of course. And I know that's hard, you know, that it's really hard. It's really frustrating. I raise three children on my own when I was in my 20s. It was a hell realm. It's what sent me to the Dharma, so I really understand that it's not easy and we can blow our top and we're going to say things that we regret and hopefully, you know, we can overcome it and ask for forgiveness. But we're just human, that could be an equanimity phrase. Remember that we're all just human. It sounds to me that also like a self compassion phrase. Absolutely, yeah. When it comes to these four Brahma viharas or divine abodes, I'll admit that as a died in the wool skeptic when I first heard that term to divine abodes, I was a little like, this sounds a little grandiose, but now I'm a dedicated practitioner of the meta loving kindness in particular coruna or compassion, equanimity and what's the fourth mudita sympathetic joy..

"A Penta World Cup player. That's 5 world cups for a BNC beetle. That is insane. Something only few players in the history of world football can actually say they've done and he's also during the World Cup he has a chance to be the all time leader in appearances for the Mexican national team. When this man's career is said and done, you will look back and say it was a legendary career for any footballer around the world. He will be a legendary Mexican football player. He's number four on my list and then I got guat democracy. Yeah, I mean, that's the argument point, right? It's like maybe you could put guatema ahead of him. Look, there are a lot of guys that deserve maybe consideration for top 5. You want to throw a goalie in their Jorge campos. Claudio Suarez. What about our colleague? But I don't think any of those guys, because look, this is really a subjective debate. But if you want to take that away and you just go off a paper, it has to be on the rest of the other, right? You mentioned it the 5th years in your objective. My word is law. Yes. Yes, your opinion is definitely not subjective here on football America. But no, I think if he makes it to the 5 world cups, we're kind of assuming that. And he does have the 15 years in Europe and look, he's hung banners. He gets the Copa del Rey here. He won a league title with PSV, won a second division title with the portola la coruna, so where he's gone, usually hardware has followed. And I think you got to point out that just haven't been that many Mexican players that have had that type of career in Europe. Definitely not that type of players. "If you've listened to the Mo Kelly show, we know all things about the man DeLorean and the larger Star Wars universe and the characters and storylines. Which undergird it. Say that on To Gina Khurana and the story, which was one of the biggest stories in America this week. She was one of the supporting actors on the man DeLorean for the first two seasons. They're getting ready to start filming season three. The first two seasons. I don't know She was in maybe five episodes. I don't know that's correct, but she was not a major supporting character. She had a story arc, which began in the first season, and then they resumed in the second season, but she did have a following to a certain degree. And if you did not know her from the Mandalore, and you may have known her from her time as an M m, a practitioner. So people know about her in various ways, but she wasn't With all due respect, a great mixed martial artist and she wasn't a great actress, and she wasn't a star on the man. DeLorean. If we can concede all that Now we can start talking about what happened in the past week. Killing. Khurana was fired by Lucas film the parent company from the man DeLorean and made it very clear that she will not be in any future Lucas film. Properties or Syriza. What have you People who politically and ideologically agree with Gina Khurana, and she is a profess Donald Trump supporter Republican Marga crab. She said that publicly people who are politically in alignment with her To a large degree of made the argument that it was canceled Culture which got her fired. They're saying that she was known to make political minded posts on her Twitter and instagram say, Magen, that kind of thing, And she was a Republican that that was what got her fired. That is factually untrue. And I want to say, Take some time to explain some of the the behind the scenes and workings of the Disney machine. And I say the distant machine because that includes ABC that includes who knew that includes ESPN and a number of other properties. But if there was any connective tissue between all those properties They purchased Disney purchased It was like 1996. The Disney purchase ESPN and I want to go back then because that was when there was a marked change as far as how It's uh, talent. Would be allowed to talk about certain issues or they were encouraged or discouraged, and this actually goes back to win Rush Limbaugh when he did some things for ESPN. He was doing some football commentary and he made those really horrible remarks about black quarterbacks and Donovan McNabb back in 1996 and ESPN fired Rush Limbaugh. That was the beginning of this Ark in which people felt that conservatives were being silence in media. When, in actuality, Disney has always had a problem with people getting loose, either on social media on their various platforms and making these broad sweeping political statements which also and here's the key Which also slander groups of people say it with me, which also slanders groups of people. In other words, you could look at someone like Don. She told you could look someone like Mark Hamel within the Star Wars, Disney World Universe and, Yes, the Mark Ruffalo. They're actively political, You know their political leanings. But they don't slander groups of people they don't bring groups of people into their remarks is not about because they're left, and Gina Khurana was right that she got fired. That's just not the case. Gina Karan. Oh, Was fine. She even got support from Carl Weathers, another co star on the mantel. Lauren, You've heard him on this program. He offered his public support for Jana Kurono. She from the people that I talked to was not on the verge of being fired Just because she was saying mob on Twitter or said issues a Trump supporter or said that conservatives were Being mistreated. She got fired when she wanted to wrap the Holocaust into her political analysis, and it doesn't matter whether you happen to agree with it or not. Hopefully you don't hopefully don't let me be clear. That's when she got herself fired. And arguably, she might have been fired before that, when she wanted to mock my read of it when she was trying to mock trans people. And the use of various pro downs on social media When the star of the man DeLorean, Pedro Pascal, Sister just came out as Trans. All these things put together meant that Gina Coruna's ass had to go. It wasn't because she was right leaning or conservative or cancel culture. It's about someone who works in this media environment, which is me included Number one. You could always get fired. What you post on social media. If you don't think that, obviously you've never worked for a media company. Okay, anything what you do, and we all signed these contracts, all of us, and they all have a similar clause. Which says if we do anything, anything you could be in our private life could be in our public life which brings in for me. Or shame to our employer. That's grounds for dismissal. Period. I want you to make sure that you that you're very clear and explain that everyone. This is also not An infringement on her. What Free divers remember, rightly thing that and that couldn't be further from the truth. Freedom of she's now She's not free to go on parlor and wherever else she wants to and post this. All she wants, she wants just won't be doing it with Disney. Freedom of speech on Lee guarantees you Avoiding prosecution. The federal government or law enforcement. For your views. It doesn't mean that you'll avoid getting your ass fired. It doesn't mean that you won't be persecuted. It doesn't mean that you won't be ostracized. It doesn't mean that you won't be criticized. It doesn't mean that you won't be ridiculed. It doesn't mean that you won't be struggling to find a job after that. You're not canceled. It just means that you can't work for the house of the mouse. You can't work for Mickey because they don't want to be associating with that type of controversy and that extends to their other properties like I mentioned like ESPN like a ABC..

Sources of the disease the WHO's director. General Federal. Gabriel's speaking there back in. July. The two people that the WHO, which just the advanced party for a much bigger group of scientists leaving soon for hand to start asking hard questions from the WHO Micron, the answers to these questions are sometimes elusive, and it is quite a detective story to find the source and the intermediate pathways by which the virus can breach that barrier to humans. We spent decades trying to do that any bola we spent years trying to do that with Merce and Sarah's it takes time and it does take meticulous multi sectoral approach to this and. We don't know where that species barrier was actually breached. This is very important because unless we understand like anything if the walls of your castle breached, you need to know where the breaches because you can fix and repair that breach. You can make sure that that is strengthened for the future. So we need to understand was the the track of this virus from the wild animal kingdom directly into humans directly through farmed animals directly into a marcus. When Mark Two hundred, we have to keep an open mind science must stay open to all possibilities. In. This program were exploring the. The evidence and the gaps in the evidence will I hear how the virus might have got from animals and into people will talk to scientists who are questioning the time and place it actually emerged and address whether the virus could have actually come from lap. On the very last day of Twenty nineteen China reported an outbreak of a strange pneumonia in cluster of people with links to the local who on live animal and seafood market two weeks. Later, the cause of the onus was identified as a new corona virus. Now named Saws Covy to the causes the syndrome known as COVID. Nineteen. Since. Then thousands of scientific papers have been published on the outbreak including the genetic sequence of the virus which confirms its close relationship to Corona viruses carried by bats, and therefore also gives us a clue as to where this vars came from Dennis. Carroll heads the Global Viral and project the Coruna viruses first and foremost are a family of viruses. We estimate there between four and five thousand different corona viruses and virtually all of the ones that we've discovered to date about two hundred we found in bats in different parts of the World Asia Africa, and in the Americas. Bats well, we don't know why bat except that bats are able to host viruses like corona viruses without themselves, having any adverse effects, and they will periodically shed these viruses in their feces or in their saliva. So they represent sort of an ideal host because a virus when it doesn't affect another animal, the last thing want to do is to kill the animal off its speaks to its own demise as well. So they've developed a very sympathetic relationship with bats over the Millennia. Are you saying that bats of the origin and when you get corona viruses and other species, it represents a jump from a bat into that species at least at some point in time. Well, I. Let's be very clear. We don't have a definitive answer as to how the COVID nineteen virus entered the human population but we've seen enough examples of the virus moving either directly or indirectly from bats that it's the most reasonable explanation. There was some initial speculation to be confirmed that Pangolin. Another wildlife animal that is a food source in China may have acted as a spillover agent, but more work needs to be done to really clarify exactly what the transmission route might've been. One other avenue to pursue is you read genetic code off of a virus and then you go looking in the database to see what is most closely related to because that can sometimes point you in the right direction of West something came from. Walt story emerges when we do that sort of analysis, many of the different corona viruses circulating in these geographic areas do in fact, have a strong genetic relatedness to the covid nineteen genetic profile. So it speaks to a pedigree shared pedigree. So if that's the case, then you make a case of the fact that these viruses are actually pretty common. You can find the across the very diverse patch of China. Why would they emerge in Wuhan? Well. The source is largely bats that are proximal to Wuhan City, and one of the things we know about bats first and foremost is that they have the ability to adapt and share. Living. Space with human populations and so what we've seen in Wuhan as an example, love high interactive dynamics between bat populations possibly again, secondary intermediary hosts with human populations. If we don't bring a human in close proximity to these infected animals, you will not get a spillover.

"Device. With no compelling evidence to justify their use. Why the widespread pushed a mandate universal masking. Their risks at far outweighed the benefits people who wear masks. Maybe they think they're more virtuous than others. Not Not proven to be true. Now I say that with the caveat at risk populations and those who are sick and self quarantine. And Society should take the best care of them possible. However healthy law-abiding citizens should not be forced to take any precautions that can result in physical and emotional harm that impinges on their rights. So if you go to Tony Corini's Article in American thinker. It's you know he goes into why physicians where them? Why in surgery they wear them and then after. Their studies that show that after an hour and a half, they a bacteria whatever just go through the mass. And he goes into about Aristotle's and droplets and research done there about the moisture and the you know you'd be breathing in this stuff. You know your coffers season. Do it and you breathe is deep into your lungs. And discovered covered to. In, experiments was found to penetrate surgical mass with normal breathing. He goes into the Asian countries. They see a lot of Asians. That have masks on their having. They have no less influenza than none wearing western. Countries. Interestingly enough. The anti-smoking low has really helped virus spread because restaurant. Who tells him bars? They used to have strong upper ventilation, and like trying to air cleaners. Pepe filters to remove the smoke. You know get rid of ninety nine point nine seven percent of small particles, zero point three microns. They probably could do something with removing viruses, but they're not here anymore because nobody smokes. All right I'M NOT GONNA. Go into this, but any further, but I think it's it's an individual mandate knowing that there's no science that has any statistical friends. health workers were studied and two thousand eight study. That's fifty three surgeons family that their mask wearing reduced their blood oxygen level significantly. We know with the low oxygen does right. It's not compatible with life and lowers your immunity and makes a lot of inflammation. And if you read the warning label on the outside of a box of surgical masks, you'll find this quote. This product will not provide any protection against covid nineteen, Coruna virus or other viruses or contaminants. Okay so when the mainstream media. You know thanks to wants you to think that wearing a mask as normal, it is not normal. For this low, you know if you want. They people on television now. They're just low IQ people. They don't. They just read. What's put in front of them? So healthy. People get suppressed. Their immune system can get suppressed by wearing these masks that make my point. Ok I hope so. All right so. Talked about the the numbers are not so bad. Keep your your fear Damn. Okay You're GONNA be fine. All right. So what do we do to keep our immune system? Up in, often functioning. Well. I told you before and I will tell you again. that. Our immune system is mainly in our gut. Okay maybe in our. So. Eighty percent of it, okay, we have to keep that healthy. You know we have like six trillion. bought a bacteria and our body. We have like sixty. trillion. We have six trillion cells, sixty million bacteria, and like three hundred eighty trillion viruses in our body. I mean we have more DNA from the microbes than we do from our human DNA. They must be there for a reason I. Don't know what to tell you. Viruses on their own do no harm. Okay. Viruses listen to me. They do no harm and they don't kill us. But they can cause an overreaction of a week. Them weakened or dysfunctional immune system that can result in our body attacking ourselves. can result in harm and disease. But we have to have a pre existing condition. We to be obese, diabetic have heart, disease or heavy smoker. It'd be immuno-compromised. We have to be in an environment that has dirty air. You know like I said around these these airports dirty water like in Wuhan city they had dirty water and dirty air, and they were having a hundred thousand pneumonias a year before the virus and dirty food. Okay. So once the viruses have to get into the cell. By Lock key mechanism. They have to. Attached to our are in a make their own are in a get their act together, and they get of the cell to do their harm. So what do we do to stop this system well? Okay one of the things you know you've heard people about zinc and we've talked about zinc, hundred milligrams or two hundred milligrams a day, zinc citrate really important because they blocked this the viruses from getting in that lock and key mechanism. Stopped this. The virus from even penetrating the cell. But even more important than that for our immune system. Is Social, connections and relationships. Some doctors are saying having friends. Medicine. People that live do one hundred or more, no matter. If they're obese, they smoke. They drink, or whatever if they have a good social relationship going their immune system strong, they live longer. New System Functions Great. They recover faster if they get a cold or whatever. So before we even do vitamins, minerals or whatever. It's important. You have good social relationships. Okay. So if you have one or two friends that you can call three or four o'clock in the morning..

Wind and fire and Santana were indeed a bit Spendy, but oh my gosh, well worth it. Wouldn't you agree so I was given the choice when This concert was cancelled at the Pepsi. Center I was given the choice to either get my money back or wait until they rescheduled, so they rescheduled right around the same time. For Twenty Twenty one and Keith and I looked at each other, and said well by that point in time it's almost as though and don't you love Nice juicy rationalization or justification? Because well by that point in time almost seemed like the tickets are free because they've already been paid for long ago. Anyway I digress holiday. Twin drive in has embraced the outdoor theatre.

Let's let's about your story, and if you would tell us in ten minutes or less, you drink how long it was a problem and why you decided to stop High School I. Think I. I didn't drink a lot. I drank little bit It wasn't a big part of my life very much into sports, student, government and right between high school and college. I just out of nowhere. came down with a non Hodgkin's lymphoma and is very surprising to me. traumatic obviously, and I checked into hospital had wonderful doctors in went through chemotherapy at I, was very fortunate to. Be Able to go to college a semester late and come out in full recovery, but I think things kind of change for me there and when I did get to college, I started to drink pretty frequently and I would say that was like the point when. I started to drink a law you know throughout college pretty consistent. In then I graduated moved to Manhattan, and I had a job in banking, and I was trying to Ford my rent so I had a side hustle in Bayliss. Promotions, which again weeds bit more drinking within two years, I had the nightlife promotions business was actually producing more income from you than my job, so I left my job and I went into that industry time for about eight years, and that was eight years more shrinking, and towards the end I met my wife, and I wanted to kind of have a career change and I knew if I wanted to have a family and it was pretty clear she wanted. To Change? In order to have a family I did eventually I was thought. Hey, you know this is probably circumstantial. It'll go away, but I ended up moving into technology, which is eventually where I wanted to be I wasn't a simple transition, but I got there and the drinking go away, just kind of morphed in I from there was. A trigger drinker I wasn't drinking. Galley I didn't have cravings. I never thought about drinking but I'd hit a trigger. You know out with friends out to dinner on vacation and say I'm GonNa have one or two drinks. Inevitably, it was countless number of drinks, and that was my challenge.

Hospitals Facing Coronavirus Are Running Out of Masks, Other Key Equipment

"Are dealing with very critical shortage. Shortage is not just a protective equipment. They're also facing another huge obstacle. There are simply not enough supplies like cotton swabs to conduct the Coruna virus tests themselves. Cnn's Drew Griffin reports. How did the United States end up in this position with a desperate shortage of corona virus tests a shortage of supplies to administer these tests even a shortage of protective equipment for medical workers? The US government knew the virus was coming back in the beginning of January on January eighth when the CDC published an emergency health advisory on a reported cluster of pneumonia of unknown origin in Wuhan China. Medical experts tells CNN. The trump administration failed to act at this critical time. What we see is the lack of preparation over the last two months has now put us in a terrible position in late. January the first. Us case of Corona virus was identified in Washington state but while Chinese officials began locking down the city of Wuhan. President trump was in Davos Switzerland telling the world that China's problem would not be the world's pandemic we have a totally under control trump barred most non US citizens from flights coming in from China but behind the scenes. Mistakes were already being made as the numbers climbed a thirty five thousand cases worldwide the CDC was creating its own corona virus tests a slower process that included sending the test of public health. Labs to make sure the test would work those public labs found out the test was flawed so they immediately reported that and CDC began an investigation very quickly but more and more labs as they were verifying this through. The coming days also found the same problem but three crucial weeks testing was at a near standstill while the CDC tried to fix the problem and the US health system was flying blind the virus spreading across America and US. Health officials had no way to test for it that kept us from having visibility on domestic transmission of the virus for weeks and weeks and weeks when the CDC's new test was finally fixed ready. There weren't enough to fill demand. This letter shows public health laboratories begging the FDA relaxed restrictions and allow them to create their own tests. It happened within days but in a race to contain it the virus was well ahead by March. Six there are a hundred thousand cases worldwide and more confusion from the administration. Anybody that wants to test can attest. When the president said these words across the country shortages were everywhere today the shortages of tests include just about everything needed to administer the test there are shortages on many pieces of it. Public health officials. Say it just didn't need to be this bad two years earlier. The White House made another potentially dangerous mistake laying aside the pandemic response unit within the National Security Council though the White House says the same rose exist just under different titles. The team President Obama had bolstered to combat global pandemics after. Abol outbreak was gone. Critics say that trump administration decision hampered efforts with corona virus. I think he made a slower and it made us more prone to mistakes. Jeremy Conine Dyke who used to run foreign disaster assistance for. Us aid says all the shortages from testing to swabs to masks can in part be traced back to that one decision. Beth Cameron who under Barack Obama ran the pandemic response unit says. There is no doubt that well we have gotten more out of this at the office had still been intact. I think absolutely the president who alternately said he didn't know anything about disbanding the pandemic team and also defended it now denies his corona virus. Responsible has been anything but perfect. We were very prepared The only thing we weren't prepared for was the The Media Drew Griffin CNN. Atlanta healthcare workers deal with a shortage of testing supplies. The FDA announced today it has approved a new corn corona virus tests that can deliver results in forty five minutes the company that manufactured the test says it will begin shipping out the task next week. I'm joined now by Dr Meghan Ranting. She's an emergency physician at lifespan which is affiliated with Brown University. Dr Anne. Thank you so much for joining us. How significant development is this new test? This new test is honestly a potential game changer for us. My emergency department like hospitals across the country are increasingly filled with patients with symptoms. That seem like corona virus. But we can't test so the best we can say is we think you have covert nineteen and we're either going to admit you to the hospital or send you home and tell you to self quarantine it will be so transformative to be able to actually test patients the same way that we do for flu or other illnesses to able to tell people if they actually need to quarantine and then to make decisions that can help us see equipment for the patients that we do have to hospitalize generally very very significant to the largest cities impacted by corona virus. Dr Ready we're talking New York in Los Angeles now say doctors should prioritize testing for healthcare workers and the severely ill besides that they won't test unless it would significantly change the course of treatment. Does this new strategy makes sense to you. So it's tough. We simply don't have enough tests so it's just like we're doing with masks and gowns. We have to conserve tests to that. We make sure that we have them for the very sickest people. It's not just New York in Los Angeles that are doing this. It's actually the practice it almost every hospital in almost every state across the country right now. It is far from ideal. It is not the way we should practice medicine. But just like we're using masks right now. We have to ration are testing which really incredible so if large numbers of people still aren't being tested. How do we know how bad the situation is? Because presumably there could be thousands hundreds of thousands maybe even more of a lot of people walking around with Corona virus absolutely. I suspect that in my state as in most other states the numbers that are being reported are orders of magnitude lower than the actual number of people who are infected. We are sending most patients home from the hospital or doctor's offices without tests. Were getting the test on those really sick patients but if you are I came into the hospital. We most likely would not get tested again unless we needed to be hospitalized so we are absolutely under counting the magnitude of this epidemic. Zoo interesting story here. A New York surgeon and mother of two whose husband is also a doctor made a plea for more protective equipment on twitter writing. This don't make an orphan out of our two toddlers so bottom line Dr Rini. How dire are these shortages at hospitals all around the country right now? It is truly dire. That is a perfect word for what's going on. Listen we're all used to using isolation gowns? There's something that we use to take care of variety of patients who come into the hospital but never I've been physician for almost twenty years now. I'm never have we been told to reuse this equipment? It is puts us at a huge risk potentially puts patients at risk. It is exhausting and terrifying. I mean the number of steps that we have to go through every time we go in and out of a room with putting on a mask putting on a face shield putting on a gown putting on gloves seeing the patient stepping back out and then doing each of those steps again in every time you take something off. You're in danger of contaminating yourself and then instead of just throwing out the mask or throwing out the face shield. We're being told clean off the mask. Clean off the shield and it in a paper bag and then put it back on again before you go see the next patient there these series of steps where we could get infected? Which then puts us at risk. I have well over a dozen colleagues across the country who have already tested positive for cove nineteen fellow emergency physicians and nurses. And it's simply because we do not have adequate access to protective equipment and we're being told to reuse the equipment that we do have. So how worried are you about your own wellbeing Dr Rini so I am concerned? I'm hopeful that I'm relatively young and healthy and I'll be okay but I've had discussions with my family about if and when I should separate from them. I have friends who have sent their kids to limit our houses. And I'm personally told my parents that I'm not going to see them again until this outbreak is over because I don't want to risk infecting them. I think it's a matter of time in less. We increase the number of masks and gowns available. It is a matter of time until most frontline healthcare workers are infected. We

While at scientific American Gibbs wrote numerous articles that gave him experience highly relevant to the current situation in one thousand nine hundred nine he wrote a piece titled Trailing Virus to research that article. He traveled into the hot zone of the highly lethal Nipah virus outbreak in Malaysia.
