In Trump case, NY grand jury appears near end of its work

"A grand jury in New York appears near to finishing its work investigating Donald Trump over a hush money payment to a porn star. Police in Manhattan dropped off barricades yesterday, making preparations as a grand jury shrouded in secrecy draws closer to a possible indictment of former president Donald Trump. Trump claimed over the weekend, he expected to face criminal charges and urged supporters to protest his possible arrest, but reporters appeared to outnumber protesters at approach Trump gathering yesterday where the AP spoke with Gavin wax with the New York young Republican club. This never happened before. This is unprecedented. AP correspondent Mike balsamo explains that this is the state investigation after the federal probe that landed Michael Cohen in prison. There is a legal theory being explored in New York, looking at whether or not the violation of campaign finance laws could also be applied as a state offense. If that indeed is the case, it could increase the penalty for making it from a misdemeanor into a felony. I'm Jennifer King.

"AP sports I'm Josh rowntree. We start on the NBA where Memphis took a game over Dallas with multiple stars sidelined. Correspondent Robert Stevens has more. Desmond baines scored 23 points as the Memphis Grizzlies completed a two game sweep of the Dallas Mavericks, one O four 88. Naz played without Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving both injured while the grizzlies were again without John morant. Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins says his team up this defensive intensity in the second half. Come out of halftime with just a renewed energy and mentality. Hey, we got to raise our level both sides of the floor. We made a couple adjustments defensively that paid off for us, which got us going with our groove on offense. And obviously that third quarter kind of changed the game. David roddy and Dylan Brooks had 19 apiece from Memphis while Jaden hardy led the Mavs with 28. Josh green at 23. Bob Stevens Dallas. In Houston, the rockets knocked off the Celtics one 11 one O 9. And jabari Smith scored 24 to lead the young rockets, one of the best teams in the league, where it was in the finals last year, you know, just competing with him. You know, going down to the wire like that with a great team like that. It's just real promise in this room. It's really good for us. The bucks beat the kings one 33, one 24. Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 46 in the win. The warriors took down the sun's one 23 one 12 behind 38 points from Klay Thompson, including 33 in the first half. On the ice, buffalo scored three third period goals rallying to beat Toronto four three. Alex tuck at the 30 goal mark with a pair in the final frame. We kind of got back to just trying to work and make simple plays and you know I just roll over one line after another after another and it makes a huge difference out there and big news in the opening day of NFL free agency. The Raiders reportedly filled their QB void by agreeing to terms with former 49er. Jimmy Garoppolo on a three year deal worth, 67 and a half $1 million. The bears are set to give linebacker tremaine Edmonds a four year $72 million contract and the Steelers are bringing on three time all pro corner Patrick Peterson for a two year deal. James Rosen Shares a Story About Antonin Scalia

"One of the first things I did when I first came to Washington as a correspondent for the Fox News channel where I spent 19 years way back in 1999 was to write a letter to justice Scalia and ask for an interview. And he responded on Supreme Court stationary. At that time, Fox News was not well known. We were often confused by those in the credentialing business for various public events with Fox 5, the local affiliate, and we were not yet as well known or on our way to ratings dominance as at that particular time. And Scalia wrote back to me on Supreme Court stationary. And he said, I am a fan of the Fox News channel. That was bracing to hear in late 1999. And he said, I have no doubt as I had promised that you would conduct a dignified interview. He said, unfortunately, I have a policy as a judge, not to make a spectacle of myself by doing television interviews. And I wrote back politely to say, then what but a spectacle could it be when a sitting Supreme Court Justice sits before a bank of PBS cameras, which is where I first got to know him when I was a high school student watching him on television in the old Fred friendly debate program, the constitution that delicate balance. What other than a spectacle could it be when a Supreme Court Justice sits before a bank of PBS cameras and debates hypothetical scenarios with other eminent minds like Dan Rather and Gerald Ford and Sandra Day O'Connor. And he wrote back to me again on stationary to say, in essence, a rare concession to win from Antonin Scalia from justice Scalia, you're right, he said, I probably shouldn't have done the constitution that delicate balance. And which I did in exceeding to the import tunings of an old friend in Fred friendly, who had been previously the president of CBS News. We agreed to meet for off the record lunches. We had two of them. And the contents of the lunches will remain off the record. But, you know, we had this extraordinary correspondence back and forth. It got even a more amusing after that.

James Rosen on His New Book 'Scalia: Rise to Greatness'

"I just have to ask you, you know, okay, you are chief White House correspondent for newsmax, you're a busy guy, what led you to say I want to write a big biography of this incredibly important figure in the 20th century. Well, it's great to be with you again, Eric. This book Scalia rise to greatness, 1936 to 1986 tells the story of the first 50 years of Antonin Scalia's life, leading up to and concluding with his Ascension to the Supreme Court. Volume two, which I hope will only be two years from now, will chronicle the 29 and a half years that Scalia spent as a Supreme Court Justice. But Scalia's life up to becoming a Supreme Court Justice was profound in its own right. And you ask why I decided to tell this story and tell it so comprehensively two volumes. First of all, the two existing books about Scalia's life were both written by liberals who, even though Scalia cooperated with one of them, both came out fairly contemptuous of the justices philosophy as jurisprudence and his conduct on the bench. So this is the first admiring biography of Antonin Scalia. And as such, I consider the first accurate biography of

"AB sports I'm Josh rowntree, major news Wednesday in college basketball is for the first time in nearly 5 decades. Syracuse will have a new head coach, more from correspondent Dave ferry. Basketball coach Jim beheim said at a news conference Wednesday that it was up to Syracuse to decide whether he returns for a 48th season. The school quickly responded by announcing that assistant Adrian Autry is replacing beheim, who was second on the all time wins list for division one coaches. I've been lucky. To be able to do it. Coach this long. His resume includes 34 NCAA tournament appearances, ten big east regular season titles and 5 conference tournament championships, along with the NCAA title in 2003, but the orange haven't had a 21 season in four years. I'm Dave ferry. On the NBA hardwood, CJ McCollum dropped in 32 points as the pelicans topped Dallas one 13 one O 6. It was good, man, but I'm just trying to win, man. I think that's, out of the score, a lot of points in my career and I hit big shots. I'm just trying to do what I can to help the team win. So it was nice to make some shots and make some plays, but it's even better when it comes in a win. The Cavaliers got by the heat one O four 100 as Evan mobley says defense led the way for Cleveland. I feel like we played pretty good defense. We were in our spots. Sometimes shooters got out. And we followed the shooters. We could do a little bit better with that. And then also them driving middle, but overall I feel like we did a good job. And Boston smashed Portland one 1593, Jason Tatum had 30. Al Horford added 17. I was just really early on taking with the defense was giving me the way they were playing me and guy found me early and I was able to get into a rhythm really early. And on the ice, the wild top the jets four two behind 46 saves for Mark Andre flurry. I thought you guys defended Walt, you know, everybody covered the metal to slat a lot of it. It's not too many grated air and the blocks and shots where it clear blocks away and obviously something nice goes up front to get the leader. I'm Josh Brown tree AP sports.

"Rare opportunity to see two show business giants having this kind of a conversation. Unfortunately, pat Boone is both of those giants. And then there's Eric metaxas, your humble correspondent here. But pat, you I joke around with you all the time. You have met absolutely everyone, you know you knew everyone that I have admired over the years. Most of them have passed on. You mentioned Foster Brooks. Did you meet? Did you know Foster Brooks? Yes, of course I did. I was not expecting a Foster Brooks impression on the program. But you did know foster books because I don't know, you know, what do I know? We played in each other's golf tournaments. He came to my tournament in Chattanooga that I hosted for almost 40 years for the bethel orphanage orphanage Christian orphanage and school that took in kids who were wards of the court whose parents were in prison. Only institution like it I've ever known. And so I hosted Goff tournaments for that thing for 30 years. It's still going strong. And Foster Brooks came to it. Now, you know, after I asked him to come and he said he would, I said, wait a minute, foster, you perform, you play a drunk, which I know you are not. And he had been, though he wasn't anymore. But he sure knew how to do it. And I said, can you be funny without being drunk? And he said, well, yes. But it's harder for me, but I said, but you know all of our people, all of our kids in this school almost all of them were victims of parents with child with a alcohol abuse and drug abuse. So he would call me before he came to them. And all the supporters of bethel, he would say, can I tell this joke and he would tell me a joke? I'd say, oh, yeah, that's funny. Then he'd call me can I tell you? I said, no, no, no. No foster. You can't tell that joke here. Sorry. And then, and he performed beautifully without alienating anybody. And then, of course, I had to return the favor and go play in his tournament in Kentucky.

"AP sport time Josh Brown tree. We started college basketball where there were four top 25 matchups throughout the country Tuesday. In Manhattan, Kansas K state dropped 9th ranked Baylor more from correspondent Greg eklund. First year head coach Jerome Tang and assistant coach at Baylor for 19 years, savored Kansas state's 75 65 win over the bears. It's not the who we played or winning that, but the environment tonight and just to turn out the crowd, the energy, I mean, every coach's dream K state trailed by three at halftime but came out firing in the second half behind chianti Johnson, who scored a game high 25 points, 16 of the second half. While Kant's point guard marquise Noel chipped in with 1410 from the free throw line, but he also had ten assists and no turnovers. Elsewhere 8th ranked Texas roughed up Iowa state 72 54, wade Taylor the fourth scored 25 points as 25th ranked Texas a and M, dropped 11th ranked Tennessee 68, 63, tenth ranked marquette got by 19th ranked creighton 73 71, and in their first home game since an on campus mass shooting 8 days prior, Michigan state knocked off 17th ranked Indiana 80 to 65. On the ice Carolina took down St. Louis Tuesday, four to one, a goal in two assists from Andrei svechnikov. There's been a while for me, like I said, and whatever is called a score and gives you a little bit conference and you just tried to boss out there and knowing the creative and more chances. That's what I was doing today. The red wings dropped the capitals three one as suitor scored twice for Detroit. Well, I mean, every point mathers ever get matters and you think it's just also building something how we play how we win games and just trying to continue that. And in the NBA, the Atlanta Hawks fired head coach Nate McMillan on Tuesday, less than two years after he guided the team to the Eastern Conference Finals. I'm Josh rowntree, AP sports.

"8 piece sports and Mike Reeves, the chiefs win the Super Bowl in a thriller correspondent Greg eklund has the story. Harrison butker kicked the game winning field goal from 27 yards out with 8 seconds left to the game and the Kansas City Chiefs edged the Philadelphia Eagles and Super Bowl 57, 38 to 35. After a Super Bowl loss to Tampa Bay, two years ago and losing in the AFC championship last year, chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named the Super Bowl MVP. I appreciate it because of the failures. I mean, the failure of losing a Super Bowl and losing AFC championship game and it gives you a greater appreciation to be standing here as a champion. On the college hardwood men's top ranked Purdue falls at northwestern 64 58 with the wildcats getting 26 points from boo boo. It's finally starting to show what the real answer is and I'm just super excited that we were able to get this win tonight and show everybody what we could really do. As you can hear from their video as he's being cuffed, fellow journalists are quick to defend. You guys use a national correspondent to not do this. It's all being recorded right now. For the injury riddled pelicans, this was the 9th consecutive game in which their wings were clipped. Jamal Murray was game high with 32. Elsewhere, the heat snuck by the calves 197, LeBron James had his first triple double of the season scoring 28 points with ten rebounds and 11 assists as the Lakers topped the Knicks in OT one 29 one 23. Sebastian aho scored the winner to complete the rally. It wasn't like panic motor or anything like that. Breitbart's Tech Correspondent Allum Bokhari Talks Twitter Files

"Senior. Tech correspondent for that conservative juggernaut that is breitbart dot com. Alan bakari. Welcome back. It's been too long. Happy new year. Happy new year. Good to be back on. All right, so let's start at the beginning, which is a good place to start. And I created a bit of a stir, the daily mail even put me in the headline along with Elon Musk and Hunter Biden after the first couple of Twitter drops when I said big whoop. I am underwhelmed. The idea that the DNC was colluding with their bodies in Palo Alto, not used to anyone who's been breathing and got a pulse for the last few years. Since then, we've had what Eric, what Twitter drop are we up to now is it 11, 12, 38, what is it? Yesterday, we're drops number 11 and 12. All right, so at 11 and 12, together in one day, just recently. Let's have the strategic overview. You've been writing about big tech for years right now. How significant are these revelations? Not the first ones, but the subsequent ones. What is it? Have you let's put it this way? Have you learned something that surprised you alum? I would say nothing hugely surprising. It's really just giving us more details about what we already knew, which is that the deep state was colluding closely with Silicon Valley using it to censor political dissidents here in America, using a sense of conservatives in America justified in the name of this all encompassing Russian disinformation panic that lasted for one pretty much from the day Trump took office throughout his entire first term. And yeah, we're just getting more information about that. I think the biggest takeaway from the latest with the files is that Twitter knew the Russian disinformation panic was a bunch of steam, a bunch of hot air. There was nothing really substantive to it. There was no huge Russian influence operation on Twitter, but they eventually got received so much pressure from the media from academics and from the deep state that they eventually went along with the panic.

"Now and again, a book comes over the transom that appeals to me. Mark morano, welcome to this program. Thank you, Eric. Happy to be here today. I appreciate it. Well, this is a really important subject. So obviously, I want to jump right into it. It's called the great reset global elites and the permanent lockdown. What do you say in this book that we wouldn't know just from generally watching the news? Well, the biggest thing, I think the simplest way of explaining what the great reset is and what the thrust of this is is our entire world changed in March of 2020. And what happened then with these COVID lockdowns, it was in eye opener to not only to the rest of the world, but to the progressives and to the global leaders in charge because to them it was like, wow, this was easy. They basically scared the public enough to issue emergency decrees globally, almost every country. And then by issuing these decrees they bypass democracy and they imposed everything from school closures to church closers to business closures to mask mandates to stay at home orders to curfews, to vaccine, all without democracy without a vote.

The rundown of Saturday Games for Week 15 of the NFL season

"NFL week 15 roundup. Saturday special. I'm Ben Thomas. Gotta just take these three games in order. Correspondent Tom mccabe reports the Vikings looked out of it at halftime, then made some NFL history with a victory over the colts. It's the biggest comeback in NFL history and it clinches the NFC north for the Vikings. Down 33 to nothing at halftime, Minnesota rally to beat the colts and overtime 39 to 36. Quarterback Kirk Cousins passed for 460 yards. Great to win, great to come back. I had no idea it was the largest NFL history. Something like that doesn't happen to average people. So I'm proud of the way the group did that. Receivers, KJ Osborne, and Justin Jefferson combined for 280 yards. Minnesota now 11 and three, the colts four 9 and one. I'm Tom mccabe. Next up, an AFC north battle where the ravens push for the division title suffered a setback in Cleveland. Craig heist is this one. Deshaun Watson threw for 161 yards and a touchdown winning his home debut as the browns upset the ravens 13 to three. Watson hit Donovan people's Jones with a three yard scoring pass in the third quarter capping off a 91 yard drive. He says the browns played well in all three phases, special teams, defense offense, played complimentary football as defensive way. We went against a great defense. You got to give them credit. But it was special to be able to get this video in front of the fans. The ravens rushed for 198 yards with JK dobbins, rushing for a 125. I'm Craig heist. And in Buffalo, the dolphins and bills went toe to toe and finally the snow started to blow. Gene bataglia was there, and somehow managed to see how it all played out. Buffalo Bills clinched a postseason birth thanks to their comfort behind 32 29 Wayne over the Miami Dolphins. As a snow was coming down kicker Tyler bass connected on a 25 year old field goal as time expired. Josh Allen made some great plays in this game, including a two point conversion to tie the game in the fourth quarter. It's what the team expects out of Alan says tight end Dawson Knox. Stephen Curry's shoulder injury latest concern for Warriors

"One 20 in overtime, and indeed the warriors lost Steph Curry to a shoulder injury in the third quarter, and still made it close against the pacers. Golden State came back from 25 down to pull to within a basket of Indiana late in the game, but the pacers held on for a one 25 one 19 win. Tyrese Halliburton had 29 points and leading the pacers to their second win this season against the warriors. Any night, no matter who we're playing, we have an opportunity to win that game. We felt like we can compete on a nightly basis with everybody in the NBA. So obviously to come out here and beat these guys, think of confidence booster for guys. There's correspondent Tom mccabe. I like Brooks scored a season high 27 points off the bench, Killian Hayes at a 25 as

"Now <Speech_Female> they're launching here <Speech_Female> in that they're <Speech_Female> saying the second half of <Speech_Female> 2022 where <Speech_Female> thinking it might be <Speech_Female> October. And at <Speech_Female> the moment, they haven't <Speech_Female> got those top tier <Speech_Female> rights in the UK. <Speech_Female> They have <Speech_Female> just purchased premier <Speech_Female> sports, which is <Speech_Female> really interesting because <Speech_Female> that's a pay TV channel, <Speech_Female> which has <Speech_Female> over 200,000 <Speech_Female> subscribers, so they <Speech_Female> already have a foothold in <Speech_Female> the UK, <Speech_Female> and they have rights like <Speech_Female> La Liga, so they <Speech_Female> do have some <Speech_Female> second tier rights. <Speech_Female> But what will <Speech_Female> be really interesting is <Speech_Female> they're <Speech_Female> blueprint essentially <Speech_Female> in other markets <Speech_Female> has been to go <Speech_Female> for those top tier <Speech_Female> rights. So <Speech_Female> for the next cycle of the <Speech_Female> Premier League for the next cycle <Speech_Female> of things like F <Speech_Female> one, will <Speech_Female> they be challenging and <Speech_Female> to your point, <Speech_Female> is that democratization <Speech_Female> or is <Speech_Female> that just another <Speech_Female> thing that sports fans are <Speech_Female> going to have to pay <SpeakerChange> for in the country? <Speech_Female> All those thorny <Speech_Female> questions. Matt, as a loyal <Speech_Female> BBC presenter, <Speech_Female> me, I'm <Speech_Female> talking about were you obviously <Speech_Female> worked for the BBC in the <Speech_Female> past? <Speech_Female> Mustn't <Speech_Female> forget to say that in terms <Speech_Female> of the Amazon deal, the BBC <Speech_Female> is also bought <Speech_Female> the highlights packages <Speech_Female> for UEFA at the same <Speech_Female> time, meaning they can show <Speech_Female> highlights of those matches <Speech_Female> for the first time from <Speech_Female> 2024. <Speech_Female> They spent, <Speech_Female> we think, a significant <Speech_Female> amount of money on that, which <Speech_Female> audiences will it serve, <Speech_Female> is it anyone <Speech_Female> who loves football or <Speech_Female> does it not work like <SpeakerChange> that? <Speech_Male> Well, I mean, <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> this is I think one of <Speech_Male> the most fascinating elements <Speech_Male> of the deal. So it's <Speech_Male> almost the defense, right? <Speech_Male> From a UEFA point of <Speech_Male> view, yes, we've gone from <Speech_Male> market. We wanted <Speech_Male> really to get Amazon <Speech_Male> in there. Amazon have got <Speech_Male> this quite interesting <Speech_Male> package. There's only 17 <Speech_Male> games, but it's the <Speech_Male> first choice. So <Speech_Male> they nearly always going to pick <Speech_Male> the best English <Speech_Male> game of <Speech_Male> the way, Gabi and <Speech_Male> cheese. They'd <Speech_Male> say, by the way, <Speech_Male> we've had the rights exclusively <Speech_Male> for since 2015. <Speech_Male> And <Speech_Male> have just taken the <Speech_Male> amount of spending on <Speech_Male> UEFA writes down <Speech_Male> by 25%, <Speech_Male> but got <Speech_Male> a load more game. So <Speech_Male> they've got to choose their Wednesdays. <Speech_Male> They've got more games and they can <Speech_Male> show. I think the <Speech_Male> defense of the deal, <Speech_Male> IE two subscriptions <Speech_Male> is, oh, <Speech_Male> but there's a <SpeakerChange> free option. <Speech_Male> So it's <Speech_Male> exactly not the <Speech_Male> baby you have. Yeah, it's <Speech_Male> exactly argument you have a <Speech_Male> match for the day, right? <Speech_Male> You don't <Speech_Male> have to get <Speech_Male> Sky Sports and BT, <Speech_Male> because if you're <Speech_Male> willing to wait, you get <Speech_Male> a fantastic highlight <Speech_Male> show, which I <Speech_Male> still watch by the way, <Speech_Male> on Saturday <SpeakerChange> and Sunday. <Speech_Female> And then I'll <Speech_Female> just briefly you'll be on <Speech_Female> that. I think <Speech_Female> that's, <Speech_Female> yes, <Speech_Female> UEFA would argue <Speech_Female> that, but we've seen <Speech_Female> through so much of our <Speech_Female> data that actually highlights <Speech_Female> linear highlights <Speech_Female> are very <Speech_Female> attractive to older <Speech_Female> audiences, but for those <Speech_Female> younger audiences, you're <Speech_Female> not going to be Tapping into <Speech_Female> them from our <Speech_Female> consumer research we <Speech_Female> know that people who <Speech_Female> are watching the BBC's <Speech_Female> channels <Speech_Female> 53% of <Speech_Female> them are aged over <Speech_Female> 45, so <Speech_Female> you're missing a trick <Speech_Female> by not having <Speech_Female> anything on free to <Speech_Female> view for those younger <Speech_Female> audiences. <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Female> Fascinating, we will <Speech_Female> watch this space, see what <Speech_Female> happens, but that <Speech_Female> is all we have time <Speech_Female> for today. Thank you <Speech_Female> to all my guests <Speech_Female> to mana moda <Speech_Female> from ampere analysis, <Speech_Female> Matt <Speech_Female> slater, from the athletic, <Speech_Female> also many thanks <Speech_Female> to <Speech_Female> Nick Jones author <Speech_Female> of the lost tribe of fleet <Speech_Female> street, <Speech_Female> Alan Jones, from <Speech_Female> PA media <Speech_Female> and Jeremy Warner <Speech_Female> associate editor and <Speech_Female> business columnist at The <Speech_Female> Daily Telegraph, <Speech_Female> the media show will back <Speech_Female> at the same time next week, but for now, thanks for listening goodbye.

"We could have a nurses strike in October. You know, ticket office clerks are going on strike barristers are going on. Something's definitely happening here. And in a way, I'm quite pleased that I'm still doing this because I do have trade union leaders, mobiles on speed dial. So you are the journalist to know. Right now. And I have gone into a bit about what is happening, but one of the big problems is no one's really being no one's really explaining what the royal industry wants to be on it to be honest. And as Jeremy would say, Jeremy, Warner, is what we're saying that the media has actually got out of step with working people's lives as Mick lynch might put it, that the coverage too often has taken the side of the government or the employers rather than the workers. I don't think that's entirely fair. I mean, when I first came into financial journalism, as a humble lowly company reporter, you know, we were very much the bottom of the parlor and the industrial correspondence labor. They dominated the news agenda in the hierarchy of the newspaper. We were way, way down. But that had changed as I've just been saying. As the power of business, the global economy really took over and muted the power of the unions. So will the next few months show that shifting that a shift back? Well, I think it's quite striking. I mean, Alan mentioned the barristers, but mainly this industrial action is taking place in public services or quasi public service type businesses like ports. And that's where unions can be most disruptive. For the vast majority of workers in the economy in the private sector, strike action isn't really an option because there's always an alternative supplier. So whether public sympathy really will remain with this upsurge in union militancy as the disruption really begins to fight and interfere with people's lives is open to question.

"Your research, how easy was it for you to find out exactly what the strikes were about based on the coverage that was already out there? Well, well, exactly. One of the striking things was that and still is actually quite difficult to find out precisely what this strike action is about. I mean, we know in broad terms it's about pay and it's about working practices and so on. But the detail of it and you know the to ing and throwing in the negotiations is very, very hard to find anything comprehensive on this. And that's a dereliction of duty by the media, isn't it not? I guess that is true, but I mean, you know, business correspondents have taken over where industrial correspondence left off. We talked to bosses basically corporate horses to city analysts as Alan just said and to policymakers and so on. That's what we kind of write about because union action industrial strife. That's not where the story has been for the last 2030 years. So would a business journalist pick up the phone to a union leader in normal times? Well, it is interesting, isn't it? That very few of us have exactly got a draw brimming full of union contacts. They're not on stage. But I know hardly any for instance. And now, I think what is also quite interesting is that a number of newspapers, including the telegraph and recently updated employment editors, but they cover a rather different sort of area of it's workplace issues. It's employment trends, such as work from home, all that kind of stuff. It may well be though that they will have to start refreshing their contacts among union leaders if this sort of militancy really does begin to take hold again. I mean, Nick, you used to do this for the BBC. In your view, what's missing. Now that outlets don't have industrial correspondence, missing from the government. What's missing? What's missing is, first of all, let's make it quite clear. It was a conscious decision by newsrooms to downscale their industrial correspondence because of course there was this shift to financial journalism if we remember all the share privatisations of the such a period, they did increase the interest in financial news. Now what's missing at the moment is let's take the rail strike and Jeremy Warner's quite correct. We know very little about what's really going on. What we do understand is that look, there have been a 25% drop in the commuter traffic in the mornings. There's going to have to be a shakeup in the rail industry. We know very little about that. You mentioned Katie the postal dispute. Look at the turnaround in the postal industry, 60% of the business is now parcels, letters are falling only 40%.

"To have contacts, crucial to keep them crucial to be able to talk to people I love talking to workers who are involved in any kind of disputes. And that's what I do. I trade union leader run me this morning with a tip off for a story. I'm speaking to Michelin's tomorrow morning. And I also speak to workers for me that keeps me in tune with what's happening. I always find it very interesting. If I cover the unemployment figures, for example, I always use trade unions to comment on them because they represent workers who are involved in all of this, if my city desk colleagues, I'm not criticizing them, but if they cover it, they will use an analyst or city analyst to comment on them. And that is if you like, that typifies one of the differences between the way I cover a story and between the city desk and probably business reporters cover stories as well. Because I'm getting a sense of what your answer will be to the next question from what you just said there, which is in your view. What does good strike coverage need to include? And are we getting it at the moment? I mean, at the moment, one of the massively different things about this strike is that the workers are getting quite a lot of public support. Strikes in the past rail strikes in the past commuters have been really fed up and any kind of vox pops that you do at stations, a lot of anger towards them. This time has been completely different. And I think that is mainly because probably millions of workers are in exactly the same position as the RMT. Come through the pandemic, a lot of them work through the pandemic, hailed as kind of COVID heroes. Not at a pay rise for two years. And then they've come through all that. It's still not getting a decent pay rise, at the same time, inflation is going to the roof. And I suppose it's fair to say that a lot of businesses small businesses are really struggling for the fact they already suffered through COVID and now people can't get to a restaurant a sandwich shop and use it, whatever it might be. Absolutely. Absolutely. But it is interesting. They are getting a level of support and partly because of that and partly because of people like Michelin so they are getting a reasonable person now. Let's look at this then in a bit more detail with Jeremy Warner.

"Following bob crow, who did that job before he's having very different, very different to what though actually the Michelin you see on television or here on the radio, that's what he's like in private. I'm not in for years. That's exactly what it's like on those three clips you've just shown. That's why I was shaking my head was, you know, it just shows the level of kind of trivialization, if you like, of questioning of these union leaders. On earth, are those three questions got anything to do with what is happening to thousands, tens of thousands, millions of workers, which is what we're talking about today. Why do you say it's trivializing? Well, they're not asking legitimate questions. To ask to ask why 6 people on a picket line is the same as the tens of thousands of people on a particular line in the minor strike. It's so different. The employment relations now is it is absolutely nothing like what it was in the 1980s unions have to jump through hoops now to even get to the stage of calling a strike. So to suggest that a picket line, the 6 or 7 people on is the same as the minor strike is just ludicrously. Nick Jones, why do you think make lynch has done such a good job of pushing back on the lines of questioning by presenters? Well, he's basically fearless in the face of TV interviews as we just heard. I think also, and this is very important. He doesn't mind he's been demonized by the newspapers for weeks on end, weeks on end of all the rail strikes started, and being branded a militant as actually helped him in the sense that he is seen as a very effective trade union negotiator who will put his head above the parapet. I mean, you mentioned bob crow and another person who was fearless equally fearless was Arthur scargill. These are people who understand how it is possible to speak on behalf of working people and take on the government, and he's prepared to do it. And I think we can say, without a shred of a doubt, that he has strengthened his position, and you've only got to look at the sort of turnouts that you get in ballots because as Alan was just explaining, it's very difficult for the unions to get authorization for strike action. They have to have ballots, but look at the results 1890% of the people who take part in the ballots are voting for strike action and they're giving bob bob I was good to say that lynch at the very authority that he's only too prepared to wield on their behalf.

"Today, as postal workers become the latest group to call a strike, how well does the media cover industrial disputes, with where we're workers and train drivers once again taking to the picket lines over the coming weeks, what's changed since the days when every media outlet had an industrial correspondent and the union bosses on speed dial. I'm joined by Nick Jones, a former industrial correspondent for the BBC and author of the lost tribe of fleet street, Jeremy Warner, who's associate editor and business columnist at The Daily Telegraph, and here in the studio, Alan Jones, a living breathing industrial correspondent at PA media Alan. Are you the very last one? I feel a bit lame answering that, but people do tell me I'm the last one, so I'm not going to argue with that. Fair enough. There have been big changes in how the media covers industrial action since the time when workers downing tools was a regular part of the news agenda. Nick Jones, you were the BBC's industrial correspondent, as I said, and as Alan alluded to, that role doesn't feature in many newsrooms the way it used to. "It takes a lot of what is the gossip of the reporter's bars and then puts it into print. So the rumors about auditors gonorrhea as well. He doesn't actually say that per se. That's a step too far to talk about the venereal disease or the rumors of the venereal disease, but he makes an oblique reference to it to talk about his kidney, sufferings, his kidney pains, and that being the origins of the reasons why he wants to sort of purge religiosity from public life. Well, that's an interesting point because what he's doing is talking about the inner character psychoanalyzing them. And I think this is an evolution of media that is more long-term than people think. What's imagined is that all reporters had horned broom glasses up into the 50s and 60s and were straight truth tellers, but then Hunter S. Thompson comes along takes a bunch of acid and introduces gonzo journalism to the world and everything changes in one fell swoop, but it's a much more gradual process. So this different type of reporting that these journalists are doing is it in response to the times or are they being I suppose intelligent designers and introducing changes into the medium? What do you make of that? This is such a crucial question. So the objectivity question. So what's your offering is the idea that we've fallen from a great height of objectivity that we once had and reporting and trusted media to widespread distrust of media, which I agree. I think that that is at a high point at the moment. But what a marking in my book is that these reporters of the 20s and 30s are very much the predecessors to what we think about as the new journalism of the 1960s, Thompson did. And so forth, in that subjectivity, inner life and intimate details are absolutely at the center of their reporting. And so when we think about this sort of buttoned up 1950s restoration of objectivity, it's just that as a restoration, it's something that is resurrected after the Second World War. And really isn't characteristic of the reporting of the 20s and 30s. The 30s especially are in extraordinarily emotional time. If you think about the high emotion of the Hitler stadium address, the reporters in some senses are also trying to counteract that with their own fervent embrace of democracy. So someone liked Dorothy Thompson, she's a really good example of this. She feels like what is needed is an equally heartfelt public, emotional argument for the importance of democracy and the liberty of the individual. And that's really what they're producing. One other bit of table setting too, how did these journalists gather news and write their stories? I worked a few years as a journalist before gaining the history route. And there's some stories like, let's say a Watergate, for example, require extensive reporting, months, if not over a year, talking with different sources, gathering evidence, records, other times media events can be almost completely orchestrated if you're going to have, let's say, a diplomatic summit, then a press secretary or a public relations team will come out, give press releases. Journalists can essentially write the story before it happens because everything is prepared and scripted. It's handed to you on a silver platter. Now, of course, getting behind the scenes, you wouldn't just simply follow the lead of a press office, but what did it look like for these journalists to gather news? And then they run off to the telegraph office and send it back home over the wire and then it appears in the press the next day. But what did that gathering process look like? Yeah, the gathering process, it's a really fascinating to try to go behind the scenes and figure out where they're getting their stories. So they're very contemptuous of handouts as they're known. And partly it's because, you know, who would want to take groups as handout for the handout from count tiano, Mussolini's one time press secretary later his foreign secretary and his son in law or for that matter even from the British foreign office or the British India office on what is happening in India. So their sources tend to be, you know, either the kind of tipsters who show up in the reporter's cafes at the hotel imperial or the cafe Louvre or the in Vienna or the hotel Adlon in Berlin retailing the latest rumors about what's happening in Romania. Or they are from local press that they're drawing upon or they're from stringers that their employing new surfaces, or best of all, they're from being on the spot. And so, for instance, John Gunther in 1934 is on the spot in Vienna for two really important stories. One of them, the Austrian Civil War that breaks out when the dictator of Austria, dolphus tries to essentially eradicate social democracy as a force from his country and specifically from Vienna, and then the thing that he ironically he dolphus makes possible, which is his own assassination. When he's assassinated later on that year in 1934 in gunthers, literally there. I mean, he's driving his car through the streets. He is going to watch the Austrian military fight fire cannons on the socialist housing projects in February of 1934 and then he's there as well around the assassination of dolphus trying to understand in the midst of very chaotic events. What is going on? And your question about how do they actually transmit that news back home? So in the 20s and the early 20s when this group of young Americans go to Europe and Asia, the way to get your stories home or twofold, one of them was to cable at N, but that was really expensive. And you would catch help from your editor. If you send a really expensive cable that wasn't viewed as imperative, necessary. Or the other way was to send a so called mailer, which was a longer story. That you would just mail home, but of course that could take months to actually get there. So what happens by the time that say Gunther's reporting that story and Austria in 1934 is that he is calling it in over the telephone wires. From his telephone at home, he's got a telephone installed in his flat. In Vienna, and he's calling it into the Chicago daily news bureau made in European bureau in Paris. And whereas he's saying his story, he's dictating a story actually into a dictaphone. And the handy thing about that method of transmission is that it evades censorship because by the time that a sensor kind of clicks onto the line and this is true, even in Moscow. They can throw you out as the reporter. But they can't actually stop the story because it's sitting there in a dictaphone in Paris. And so in order to actually keep the news from getting through, you know, you can sense your own country's newspapers. You can keep them from printing the news. But foreign correspondence produces a real problem for leaders. And that's true of dictators, but it's also true of the British Empire. Which is if you're going to keep these people from reporting what you have to do is actually turn off the telephone lines in the entire country. And that does happen actually in Vienna in 1934 at various moments. But obviously, that's a pretty drastic solution. The journalists in your book are interviewing the most important political figures of their day. Hitler Mussolini Franco Trotsky, Gandhi, Churchill, FDR. Could you describe some of these encounters and also, how important were these interviews? For example, would this be as high profile as if Anderson Cooper, Chris Wallace, were interviewing Vladimir Putin right now in the day of this recording his early April as that Russian Ukrainian war is still going on, or would it be more of a puff piece? Could you talk about these encounters with these world leaders? These.

"In the 1930s, the biggest American media celebrities were four foreign correspondents, Dorothy Thompson, John Gunther, HR knickerbocker, and Vincent Shea. They were household names in their day, and just as famous as their novel writing lost generation counterparts, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. These reporters helped shape what Americans knew about the world between the two world wars by landing exclusive interviews with the most important political figures of their day, including Hitler, Mussolini and Franco, as well as Trotsky, Gandhi, nehru, Churchill and FDR. But they also went beyond state press releases and listened closely to the dissidents in Europe and heard alarming reports of violence against anyone who opposed these authoritarian regimes. The reporting made waves at home and abroad. HR knickerbocker was the only foreign reporter whose dispatches Mussolini bothered to read. Joseph gobel is called knickerbocker in international liar and counterfeiter. John Guthrie shot to fame, but the book inside Europe published in 1936, arguing that, quote, unresolved personal conflicts in the lives of various European politicians may contribute to the collapse of our civilization. In the face of increasing violence in Europe, these reporters had to decide whether they would remain on the sidelines or advocate for their readers to respond. They were the readers of the dictators wouldn't be satisfied with their territories they conquered, and the objected to the policies of appeasement and predicted the coming of the Second World War. Putting together the stories they covered, the Italian invasion of Ethiopia in 1935, the Spanish Civil War broke out the next year, the German annexation of Austria and the karma book Czechoslovakia, and made very accurate judgments about what would come next. The story of these four journalists is told by today's guest, Deborah Cohen, author of the new book, last call at the hotel imperial, the reporters who took on a world at war. So we'll see how these figures told the major stories of the day. How they gathered news how the journalistic sausage was made in the 1930s, but also how they shaped opinion as opinion columnist and book authors. So questions about objectivity in the media aren't new to the 21st century, but age old. And the questions about whether reporters should be eyewitnesses or advocates are just as relevant then as they are now. Hope you enjoyed this discussion with Deborah Cohen. Today there's an incredible distrust of corporate media in the United States. Before our interview, I went online and looked up a Gallup poll of trust in news media and it started in 1998 and went up to 2020 and it was, it went from a high of 54% and today it's as low as 32% and it hovers around one third of the public trusting. But I think most people understand that there was more trust one to two generations ago in the media where Walter Cronkite speaks with the voice of God about the Vietnam War or before that Edward R murrow is comforting us during the red scare with the words of good night and good luck. I'm curious in the 1930s, what did the public think of the news media? Did they trust them? They still have some latent distrust left over from the William Randolph hertz dera. What did your average person think of the news media during the time period of your, there's a fair amount of distrust in the 1930s. So not only is the Hearst press still going strong and knickerbocker, who is one of the figures in my book is reporting for international news service, but there's the sense that they're press barons that they have agendas and that heard as the so called respectable papers like the Chicago daily news or the Philadelphia public ledger and The New York Times have been working since the start of 20th century, but really from the 20s. To try to enshrine the idea of objectivity in the press, there still is a lot of skepticism. Actually, interestingly, when radio is first coming on the scene, there's much less skepticism about radio reportage. In part, I think because it seems so immediate as if you're hearing an unfiltered truth, which of course we know is also not the case. Absolutely. And there we'll see how this is all created and packaged as we get into it. But I'd love to first look at the main characters in your book. And I mean, just by perusing it, you're already transported to a world. You imagine classy hotels where people are dressed to the 9s, drinking boulevardier and other Campari based cocktails, smokey profusely, talking about cinema and the latest talkie they saw. The people in your book are mostly forgotten as you know, but at their time they were household names. Can you tell me briefly about Dorothy Thompson, John Guthrie, HR knickerbocker, and Vincent Sheehan? Absolutely. So Dorothy Thompson amassed a string of firsts. She was the first American woman to run a major overseas news bureau. She was the first American foreign correspondent to be kicked out of Hitler's Germany in 1934, and she was the first woman political columnist to have a syndicated column, political column of her own. And in the late 30s, she's reaching 8 to 10 million readers with her thrice weekly columns. John Gunther makes his name with a book inside Europe published in 1936 that this taboo breaking behind the scenes account of the foibles of European leaders. So Hitler is given to crying Jags. He reports and has as Gunther puts it an Oedipus complex as big as a house, Mussolini is very superstitious, and so on and so forth. And this is a huge book of the time. It sells more than a million copies. It's not just a bestseller in the United States. It's also a bestseller across Europe. And it's a book that makes Gunther's name. HR knickerbocker comes from Texas. He's born in Texas. And he's the son of a southern methodist minister. He always carries a Bible in his suitcase, though he can swear in all of the major European languages. He's reportedly the highest paid foreign correspondent in the world, as I said, mostly working for William Randolph Hearst's international news service and among other accomplishments he becomes the bet noir of Hitler's propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels. And then there's Vincent Sheehan, so she and is reporter he was working for a number of different outlets among them the Chicago Tribune and he writes a book entitled personal history, published in 1935 at wins the first national book award for biography inaugural award. And this book really captured the zeitgeist of the era in a way that no other book does. What she and his writing about is his own quest as a journalist. To figure out the relationship between his life and world events, or as he puts it, the one life that he has in the millions of lives into which it's cast. And I think going back to your question about the status of the media, what you said at the start, which is that these that when these are hugely romanticized figures at the time, and that's absolutely true. So they are, in a sense, you know, there have been foreign correspondents. There's certainly been war correspondents before. But this is what people refer to as the heroic age of the foreign correspondent. When they become the subject for Hollywood movies, she and personal history is the sort of kernel of the idea that becomes Alfred Hitchcock's 1944 correspondent. There are lots of other movies that are made about foreign correspondents in the era. Dozens of them actually. So in a sense, they stand for a kind of truth telling, although at the time their rape or Taj is, as I said, very controversial. Yeah, I would like to follow up on that because you noted earlier that one of the reporters was talking about the character of their subjects and this comes out in other reporting with questions on Stalin's family life, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's purported fixation on his mother and interestingly enough that reporting led to a really goofy biography about auditor by Norman iskowitz called auditor psychobiography that does Freudian psychoanalysis and claims that the reason Mustafa kemal auditor changed the language from Arabic script to Latin script was because of his hang up with his strict religious upbringing. Just a little kind of funny aside there. Yeah, the inside Europe.

"You're off the island? Yeah, you're addicted to it. That makes sense. You can't quit. I think David's on the survivor island now. He's on that one where they banish people to that side island. I feel like I have to give a tale of caution before people answer this because are you guys survivor fans? Am I the only survivor? I am a huge survivor fan. I know this is crazy. 20 feet is in the last 6 months. Oh my God, amazing. Okay, so you know about the man Joe who ate too much meat on a reward and got so constipated he had to be medically taken out of the show. Jesus. Okay, so this is my word of caution. You know, when you come back, you don't want to just dive right in because you'll wind up getting so constipated that you need to be seen by a doctor. Wow. There's also been like the immediate getting hugely sick and throwing up after eating on the challenge. Yeah. It's really bad either way. Again, we're going to have to believe everything I've said. But well, it's not pickle related, so I think it's okay. I might still sign the contract out of the fact. Go ahead, wags. The first thing I'll say, and this sounds like a stealth brag, but it's not, but I did run a marathon once in my life when I was 22 years old around the LA marathon. And the meal I wanted immediately afterwards was McDonald's and so I got a McDonald's Big Mac meal and I got myself an M and M mcflurry and a Coke heavy and it was like one of the best meals of my life. It was so satisfying. I was so hungry and it was like exactly what I wanted. But you got my answer, a Big Mac meal large with a Coke, how can you repeat that? Yeah. It's kind of perfect but to Jen's point and to David's point about just like, you know, part of it is reintegrating your digestive tract into eating real foods again after subsisting off of all the island leavings. I would probably, I would consider like a big bowl of pho. I think that would probably be like, oh, it's a big nourishing soup with a bunch of nutrients and it's also like tastes good as hell. I think that could be very, very satisfying. Like a phobia being with some meatballs or I guess I do like a fuck out with chicken right now 'cause I'm not eating red meat. David Evan, any favorite food would you like to get right after an island getaway? Just hold up. You both have said Big Mac. What's in a Big Mac? To the ingredients. Two patties. Oh shit. You got yourself some cheese. Just lettuce. There's onions, whole pickles, special sauce, and there's a sesame seed. I think that's everything. Did you say, hold the pickles very quietly? No, no, no, no. No. Well, that's going to be a problem. I don't know what I would get. I wouldn't go on survivor in a million years, so I can not even contemplate. Oh dear. We're all going on survivor together. I would potentially go deli boys altogether. And then I'd probably have more slop after getting off out of big brother. It'll be, I think we could do a steamed season where the deli boys and doughboys and both end up on survivor and Jen is there, of course, as well. Wow. Yeah, and I flip between the two alliances. I like that a lot. I'm trying to imagine how sasser will be the only guy on the island with a rice stain on his shirt. I'm trying to see how you pull that off. You know what? We're not intolerant of that. We're very tolerant of the deli boys. We love them. We love the deli boys. And you know what? And you know what? That was a good question, too. Deangelo, I guess you can answer. I think I was gonna say in spicy chicken sandwich. From Wendy's. I'm right there with you. I think McDonald's just because the Wendy's fries are always so hit or miss. And I feel like McDonald's meal would just be, yeah, so satisfying. But I would go the two cheeseburger meal. That's my oh, that's a good meal. There's something very American. Which also has the forbidden fruit. I maybe would do an Italian dinner, something about it. Oh, that's fun. Chicken parm or something. That's cool. Yeah. That's good. They definitely the other thing that they do on survivor is they make really bad versions of the food that you're it looks really bad. But they obviously are very excited about it. They have pizza in the Philippines. And it's like, give them local food that's really good. There's no way to pizza. But it's like, you know, craving pizza. So I think pizza would actually be close. Pizza on their reaction to it. Really good slice of pizza. It looks pretty like the perfect thing to have. Because of the bread. Yeah, I feel like you would also be craving like some well, I guess rice, you get some carbs, but I'd want like a big cheesy, greasy pizza. Sounds good now. With just a bunch of on it. Unfortunately, I.

"We're here with our guest Jen Deangelo. Jen, thanks for hanging in there. Thanks for your judgment. And you know. Why has anyone ever told you like Arby's, you got the meat too? You ever think about that? How you got the meat? You got a big hog? You got a big okay. All right. You know all much long. We've got experts joining us. Joining with us. Look, Emma, hey. I'm gonna come back from break again. We'll start here, just edit all this out. No. No. Welcome back to doughboys. You know, all over the next year to help us determine what makes a good sandwich. And right now, we're thrilled to welcome our pickle correspondents. Wow. Because as we know, we are in a pickle this month, the deli boys, David Phillips and Evan susser, welcome. Welcome to the pod. Thank you both for being here. The deli boys are back. The deli boys are young. They're back. We're back, baby. Reunited. It's great to be here and we are thrilled to talk pickles with you and be your pickle correspondent. Wow. We should clarify something real quick because you have two statuses here on the doughboys podcast susser. And well, several statuses. But yeah, that's okay, three statuses here on the doughboys podcast. You are not here in your capacity as tournament commissioner currently. You got your, you're not wearing the suit, you're wearing a polo shirt. It appears. You're here as one of the deli boys. Yes. And it seems like you are broadcasting from one of the offices that the agents take neo into in the matrix. Is that correct? Yeah, that's correct. And then Phillips, it looks like you come from the set of Twin Peaks, I believe. And but you both sound like you're in a submarine, but sus, please explain, please explain what you're here. You're not, you have no thoughts as a commissioner. You're just here for pickles. Yeah, you're not here to issue decrees as you did earlier in the podcast via deputy commissioner you song. You are here to just we're just going to chat. We're just going to chit chat about pickles. And here's a pickle question to start with things off. Hold on. Hold on, hold on. Sorry. Okay. We've appeared on this podcast before together. And if you remember, we had some terms when we did that. Oh, that's right. Oh yeah. I remember this now. David, do you want to explain? Well Jesus Christ. I think we can't in good conscience continue as pickle correspondent so we get the paperwork out of the way. So we did have our associate drop offs and contract some niches how Mitch, can you please? Is it my front door? Yeah. These are important documents. Oh my God, he couldn't even pick up crackers and now he has to stand up. Standing and walking. This would be a great time to get into pickle talk, but unfortunately we do need to wait until the contract is signed. So we can't. So let's just sit and wait until Mitch comes back. All right, great. Mitch's return. It looks like he has a Manila envelope of some sort, a file folder, and he is going to bring it back. Jen before, you know, I know that the deli boys aren't going to comment on. But do you have any preferences as our guest? I mean, I love a lot. Oh, yeah. And unfortunately, we're going to have to bleep that out as well. We kind of pickle talk. And you know how we like to operate. If you could bleep that out. Yeah, yeah, I got the fleet ready. You're a fan of pickles so much that your microphone is a pickle jar connected to the computer with a string. Is that correct? Again, I can't comment on my family. But I can say that that is my microphone. Okay, here we go. To Mike Mitchell, president of doughboys media. That's what I got here. Held together with a little paper clip. And here's a contract inside also held together with a paper clip. Deli boy season three agreement. Oh boy. How it is titled. Deli boy season three agreement. This agreement is entered into by in between doughboys media here and after sometimes for two as party one and Evan susser and David Phillips herein after sometimes referred to as party two who intend to do it. If you were going to present a lengthy legal document to one of us to read aloud, why did you choose Mitch? I think you went too far away. Okay. Also, don't know your address, never been invited over. Another issue. Okay, here in part two, who intend to produce a season three of their show deli boys. Here in after, sometimes over true as, quote, unquote, show. And our desirous of in a desire of establishing all their rights and obligations in and to said work. Okay. Sir, I keep going. Here we go. Now, therefore, in consideration of the execution of this agreement and the undertakings of the parties as hereafter set forth, it is agreed as follows. One. Party two will make an appearance on party one's podcast known as doughboys. Herein after sometimes referred to as show two. That's bullshit. So you're saying you guys want to you guys want to guess on doughboys. That's what we're doing it now as people correspondents. Tournament of chomping. Munch maddest 2022 hero's journey. Suboptimal, in exchange. A that's where I get yep. A party one will pay party two the standard guest appearance fee. Okay, that's fine. We'll pay you that. The standard guests appease. This is going to go very smoothly then. I'm glad we're already on this. B, party one will refer to party two as the deli boys of Delhi boys season three. No less than 5 times during their appearance. Okay, let me write that copy down for my own reference. The deli boys. The deli boys. Of Delhi boys season three. Yeah, that seems achievable. All right, wags is writing it down. Here we go. Is that 5 times it can be collectively. Okay, okay, okay, fair enough. Then you know what we're using are so good. We both of these. And these count were the ones we've already said aloud. The first one just counted. All right, great. C, party one will host party twos premiere episode of season three on party ones main feed. Hereafter referred to as head gums at supported feet. Not party ones Patreon feed here in referred to as the as expensive as Hulu feed. This is gonna be a wait, look. If we do this, there's a lot of tape with a bread cast all over again when we thought we'd be like, hey, here's a free episode for everyone to listen to and then everyone complained like when the U2 album showed up on their own. You'll see that gets addressed. That gets addressed later in the comments. Okay. Okay, okay, okay. D, party one will book party to quote unquote, top tier guest for season three. Top tier hereafter is defined as never having a.

"It's the second hour and it's the fourth tuesday of the month. It's the embedded correspondence and here. They are a no doug. Why why is this. Hold on figure this out right now. Doug stand pat to worry. Worry i can see myself. I know i can see you. But i can't see you you can yourself not not in the quad. You can't see yourself now not in the quad but the video. Let's go to set up. Go to box. Four your guest christ but the picture of the guy asleep. That'd be fine for your guest. One right yeah. Hey there we go. We did it only takes a little bit of patients and effort and away. We go all right guy so this is a big month us. Every year we talk about and then in docked a whatever year it is barbecue central show guest hall of fame class twenty eighteen. We rolled it out. We did it again the year after that and we did it again last year. We're going to do it again. This year five people will be getting into the barbecue central show guest hall of fame. It's very exciting. I'm sure everybody was diligently and feverishly working through their list of five to choose from and argue for and we will get into that here in a second. But let's go ahead and lead off with a few one hundred percent assuredly picks which everybody's loving by the way also for anybody listening through instant instantchat or we can try and work in some of this Clubhouse stuff i know. I'm trying to crowbar some of the season. But i'm just trying to see if i can work at or now Please feel free to raise your hand and you can give us the assurance. Pick that you think. Let's start here and this is so. I'm doing the assuredly pick on this topic first and then we will reserve this for next month will actually be able to dig into it much much further rusty and doug john will probably be able to talk on this lot more Expertly than i will. I can talk on a just from a marketing level and from what i think level but nevertheless long way to go to get to here one hundred percent yes or one hundred percent no the kcbs new stay competition will be a one hundred percent success or one hundred. Let me do it like this. Sorry one hundred percent assured you pick the new. Kcbs stay competition will be a one hundred percent success rusty one hundred percent yes or one hundred percent no to that first of all different spot on the quad. I feel like i have raised a rank like over. Maybe doug and i want to apologize to doug for you know being floor chorus. This wasn't discussed. It just happened. It did just happen. We saw it just happened literally. But that's all right. And i'd like to thank you greg for the Promotion so. I would say no as much as that hurts my guts because i really wanted to do well. I just think the barbecue is full of very full of hipsters. You know but not to take away from sca because what brett is doing is very is very special. He's out there all the time. You know face to face remembers who i am. What i'm doing really really cool. And they deserve their every single bit of success. And everyone's just kind of in that mode. And i think that's what's going to do it and people are just not going to give that any given its its do and you know 'cause there's a lot of different barbecue you know competition bodies and i think that i don't know i think it's just not gonna take hold as much as i would love it happened. You think more people are just dumping on to dump on it. This is what we've talked about before people are just hating on it to hate on absolutely just a hate on. That's all it is. It's it's a really cool concept. It's a really really awesome. And it's sad that it's going to fall by the wayside because people and barbecue or savages so one hundred percent yes or one hundred percent now hunter no all right rusty weighing we go to the longest running embedded correspondents in texas doug shining one hundred percent yes or one hundred percent. No the kcbs stay. Competition will be a success. One hundred percent. Yes there are too many. Kcbs it out there really damn straight right. I don't want to dig into the minutia here but is it a terrible. Follow up question for me to ask in in your yet. You know what it is one hundred percent a bad. I'm not going to do that. Okay yeah i'm for the non grill marks so i'm all for the kcbs steak we'll We'll we'll dig into the minutia. Sear revolution rusty. John one hundred percent yes or one hundred percent. No the new. Kcbs stay competition will be a success. Unfortunately one hundred percent now very unfortunate. We'll dig into that next month of course For me one hundred percent yes one hundred percent. No no and i'm not gonna say unfortunately i'm just giving you a straight no and then we will dig into it next month. Also i mean we're just going off of where we're at present day and certainly i would like to see some of these things. Get going and get feedback and all this other russi. Have they had one yet. You're aware of. They've had testers but they haven't had a full on competition yet. All right so. I'd like to see you know how many people are participating i get it from a high level and All right. I'm gonna digress here. Because i don't want to get into the stuff that we'll talk about next month all right. Let's try another one and the one hundred percent of sugar depict one hundred percent yes or one hundred percent no. Kcbs will gas grills in their barbecue. Competition rusty i think they stick with no. That's one hundred percent now. i. I think it's fair original the to. I think it's fine. It's okay one percent. Yes we're one hundred percent now. Kcbs will allow gas grills that their barbecue competitions. Yes and i think they should go to john. One hundred percent. Yes go one hundred percent now. Tasty s will allow gas grills in their barbecue competition. Say yes yes. Hey drowning personal. Grab the tip of soared to save themselves. I've heard that before one hundred percent. Yes or one hundred percent not to me. Kcbs will allow gas grills on their barbecue competitions. One hundred percent fucking. no never. They will never do that. You are literally asking the kcbs to go against their prime directive. It is in their vision. It is in their mission statement if they allowed gas grills. I'm not talking about the state competition. That's a whole different situation. Barbecue competition there is no way unless literally the world will end the.

"Jason baker from green mountain grills was guest on the show back then and aside from persisting through some incredible technical issues on my end. Jason and i were eventually able to talk about the way. Green mountain grills has always taken their products to market. As i had mentioned in the just a few minutes ago. They sell through a dealer network. So they're sending people out through across the country to brick and mortar stores and making partnerships with these mom and pop shops or maybe not small mom and pop shops but some live fire cooking shops. Typically you would find fireplaces in these joints as well and they sell a bunch of grills where you might find a embroil master or you. Mp or primoz things like this They would also carry out in grills potentially as their pellet line and jason described why they did it that way versus how a lot of other companies are doing it which is online or using some of the bigger box stores to pull through and where many of the folks thought that that that are in this kind of business or that would want to get into this type of business that the win is going to be getting to way sam's club or getting to a costco or going on amazon. Jason thought that that was going to be a nightmare and he didn't want anything to do with it and that's why he has stayed in the dealer environment through green mountain grill. Good listen you can go back. And get that teaser. There's also linked the full episode number of great guests within that episode as well signed from jason. So go back and listen to that.
