Place it drained the swamp. I said, Oh, that's so okay. Keep you happened, man. Whoa! You know, the thing president today chimed in on the biggest story that came out overnight, and that was the shooting of a man in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. This, according to the police chief in this town of Brooklyn Center, which is a suburb of Minneapolis. The officer was going for her Taser and thought, apparently that she had a Taser in her hand when she shot a single time into a 20 year old named Dante, right. President Biden called for calm today. In the aftermath of that shooting. He told reporters in the Oval Office that he had spoken with the governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz and local authorities there in Brooklyn center about the shooting of Dante right, but had said that he had not yet spoken to rights family, he said. You all watched as I assumed I did the body Cam, which is fairly graphic. He said. The question is, Was it an accident? Was it intentional? That remains to be determined by a full blown investigation, he said. But in the meantime, I want to make it clear There is absolutely no justification for looting. No justification for violence, peaceful protest. Is understandable. The president was in the Oval Office meeting with some lawmakers from congressional leaders talking about, among other things, the infrastructure plan the ongoing plan to try to pitch this thing, they make it a passable Cornyn was Trending on Twitter Today, Senator John Cornyn on a Texas spun a political article today about Joe Biden's limited tweets. Politico said that he's rarely on cable news. He's rarely on Twitter and Cornyn tweeted. The president is not doing cable news interviews. Tweets from his account are limited and when they come, unimaginably conventional Public comments are largely scripted. Biden has opted for fewer sit down interviews with mainstream outlets and reporters. Then, he said, it invites the question. Is he really in charge and Twitter than unloaded on the senator talking about how the president is actually busy, and he's not going to go on tirades on Twitter, like the former president did. Yeah, I We got used to. I mean, we were commenting about this earlier. The fact that we even talked about the something that former President Trump said is unusual because he doesn't have the same platforms that he did before and I thought going into January. 20th you know when we're going to see this changing of the guard there that we would Sort of take a refreshing break from an overflow of too many tweets and too aggressive and too vitriolic. And then you start to think maybe there was something to that. Maybe there was more than just entertainment value. Maybe it was pushing some issues in there. That's I think John Cornyn's just getting it's unfortunately that is the go to like criticism of President Biden that he's not seen or heard from is absolutely correct. I mean, John Cornyn nailed it. In that you don't get to see Joe Biden do much of anything. We've seen one major news conference since he took office. Well, it was supposed to be a unifying weekend for the Republican Party at war with itself. Very much Are you in line with Trump or you not this was in Palm Beach. And he gave the closing remarks. He was the headliner at this event with the Republicans party's top donors, and he went after Mitch McConnell and his wife. Well, he called McConnell, a stone cold loser. He said he was disappointed in Mike Pence. Called McConnell and S. O B. Apparently, he said that Mitch McConnell had not thank him properly for putting his wife in his cabinet. Thanked him properly. Yes. Uh huh. Most of the closed door gathering was held at a luxury hotel a few miles away from Mar a Lago, but they were bussed to Trump's club for his remarks. I am I am dying to see what I wish I had a crystal ball and could see what sort of influence he's gonna have in the next couple of years, because every time we see headlines like this Back some comments, he said, or criticism that he has for members of the Republican Party. I'm always faced with other comments, or I'm sorry..

2021 Super Bowl Ad Review
"Like there's two ads. I've really want to get everyone starts on I think they're the most polarizing we'll certainly talk about our picks for the best. Although i will say this year it was not exactly like a plus plus it was like you know pretty good lead like the the best ones were all pretty good And none of them were were tremendous home runs But that's the two that were kind of late editions. we already talked about only in passing But then also the two minute. Gps dot with bruce springsteen. Let's start with that nicole. I think we all know what what they were. Attempting you know like cheap wanted this rousing halftime in america type ram farmer. Type spot fill. It really fell flat. I actually kinda surprised that they released that one early because it was a two minute long spot. I thought at least it would be a two minute surprise So that was a little shocking to me. But yeah then when i saw it i was like oh man two minutes okay. Let's get cozy. Let's see what this is going to be like. Am i going to be laughing like last year. Because last year was such a pleasant like fun. Add to watch and this one. I just kinda felt like. Oh they're going like the safe route they're going like the middle of the road route. They're going to do the call for unity and also like to me. I as a consumer from the consumer perspective. I didn't love that. Because i feel like if i want to see a brand lean into its purpose i wanna see them. Take a side not do the middle of the road thing. I know that that's where a lot of Like i guess politics wise lot of people doing calls for unity but it still felt like a little too early for the brands to start doing the calls for unity. Like i'm still waiting for purpose from brands rather than middle of the road right now. I guess my question would be in. Jameson a. You and i talked about this many times. But i can't think of a brand that has ever succeeded by being like can't we all. Can we just come together. They learn anything from gap putting up that tweet that it was like a hoodie that had like read into on it and it's like a collie unity shoot rented after election day. Jeep is like we're going to spend twenty million dollars gap bruce springsteen in here and do the same exact thing in front of a hundred million and hope it works. I mean it was a touching message that i felt ill timed and i saw one tweet from at its kenya summit. A perfectly like what they displayed in that ad fundamentally goes against lead. Diversity inclusion is in america right now. And i think right just did didn't didn't showcase what america is today showcase a unity of one america used today. And you know what. I would have actually appreciated if they just re-run last year's groundhog day ad and donated that money to a cause that actually supports you know unifying missions I think that would have been funny and understandable and Yeah that that really fell flat a lot of the ads this year. Celebrities team to kind of try to force things like the cuts. The storylines is just we. I felt like the in this kind of i guess my last real thought on jeep is just the it's the kind of add that cmo's and and if i'm just being honest here because it's late i'm tired League basically wealthy white folks and and and just affluent people in general kind of ivory tower folks are gonna be like what a brave message like wouldn't important message. I'm so glad they used their storytelling to do this. You know what i mean. And and that's but to everyone else on the ground like who who has survived this past four years and knows how much farther we still have to go. It's just like oh there's a small church in kansas. That's that leaves their doors open. Okay cool then. Never mind like we're all good and you know it's just anyway. That's that's my. But i i also wanna make sure we say plenty of time talking about oatley because who wants to start us off one. No we haven't gotten to talk realism curious. I loved story. edited the story By katie lindstrom and No they wanted to go with something else in there. Trying to come up with With all these eight years and ended up like the ceo was kind of forced into the spot because he was like well. I guess i have a better idea. And he brought back an idea that he had and it was just him trying to come up with a jingle and From i saw you know it. It definitely caused a stir In terms of using a simple melody and a simple backdrop and like a shaky table with you know that lovely oatmeal gone. They're really worried about that class. Like nobody take this down from production. Okay we're going to go with it. But i thought it was so so on brand you know it. It was not expected and A little endearing. And you know i am. I am a consumer of that brand. And you know they. They also laid that message with you. Know the mission of. Let's also be sustainable and talk about. Let's let's take a quick pause to listen to the song for anyone who might have missed it in all of its glory It reminds me of like kind of like nineties weirdo alternative Kind of punk music. I don't know there's this weird vein of like intentionally bad dead dead milkman. style was. let's give it a listen made for you. Who moves like male but made for you. Well no no no no bill nicole. What did you think of the okay. So here's the thing. I actually when i was first watching it. I thought to myself like oh. That's actually kind of cute. I don't hate this. And then everyone i was in the room with just got quiet and they all just started like laughing at the same time. They're like oh. This is terrible terrible. We hate this. We all hate this. So i actually think that i'm one of the few. Maybe i'm i'm the right consumer here or something. I like the brand also personally but yeah. I didn't hate it right away. I get the cornyn est. And i get that like i don't know maybe maybe now that i've listened to not while i'm also editing and distracted by other things i get it but i listen. I was kind of like oh cute. Okay i have to say. Maybe one of my favorite advertising tweets of all time. And i won't name him because he's a great dude and Good on him for his transparency but so someone tweeted that oatley dropped the ball and then a few minutes later shared his own. Tweeden's i've been informed that my agency created the and and so it's actually fantastic
Trump Refuses Surprise Call to Testify in His Impeachment Trial
"Senate Republicans air reacting the House Democrats have called for testimony from former President Donald Trump during his upcoming impeachment trial, Senator John Cornyn said he was surprised by the request. Now they realize that they in their snap impeachment, they did not actually produce any evidence. No sworn testimony from witnesses that could even be introduced in written form, and now they're realizing the error of their ways to the doesn't want to shut down the Senate for a lengthy trial. Trump second impeachment trial scheduled to begin Tuesday.
House delivers Trump impeachment article to Senate, setting stage for trial
"The second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump is underway after House managers delivered the article of impeachment to the U. S Senate Monday evening, charging him with incitement of insurrection over the deadly attack on the U. S. Capitol, Donald John Trump engaged in high crimes and misdemeanors. By inciting violence against the government of the United States. Maryland Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin serving his house impeachment manager and reading the charge on the Senate floor, But the trial won't begin in earnest for another few weeks, a pause allowing more time for preparation. Some Republicans say it shouldn't be happening at all. Now that he's out of office. This can happen. Anytime of political party has a majority. And there's no time limit. There's no statute of limitations. That would mean that the new precedent set is that next time Republicans were in power they could reach back and impeach a former Democratic president, Texas Senator John Cornyn, also taking issue with the push to prevent Trump from ever seeking office again if convicted by the Senate. But Democrats say the former president must be held accountable and the trial will move forward even is President Biden tries to accelerate the fight against Cove it and find common ground on more covert relief open to changes in his proposed package. I prefer these things to be bipartisan, because I'm trying to generate some Census and take sort of the How can I say it vitriol out of all of this, But he's already suggesting that just because of Bill passes along party lines doesn't mean there isn't unity. In addition to being a source of friction, the impeachment trial will take time and conviction would take much more than a party line vote in the divided chamber days after January. 6th. It did look like there was no mentum. Among Republican senators to convict President Trump. John Roberts is co anchor of America reports on the Fox News Channel. The White House was concerned that the numbers could be high enough for their actually to be a conviction. Which would have meant that 17 Republican senators would have had to vote in favor of convicting President Trump. But since then, the mo mentum toward a conviction among Republicans has waned to a large degree, and now the momentum is actually swinging the other way. Pendulum has now moved toward declaring this process to be unconstitutional. This idea of holding a Senate trial for a president who is no longer in office and adding to that is this idea that the chief justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, will no longer be presiding over the trial that will now fall to the Senate. President Pro TEM Senator Pat Leahy from Vermont, all of which taken together adds to this growing idea in the Republican Party that this is an illegitimate process that this is being done on Lee for political reasons. It's on Lee being done to punish President Trump and really doesn't hold any validity in terms of whether or not President Trump will continue to hold office. What about the big picture here? And the political calculus for Mitch McConnell, who's now the Senate minority leader again? Um, because some analysts have pointed out that he seems to be treating this impeachment differently than the last one. You know, as if he feels it's more credible or at least that's how it seemed initially. Um are they reading too much into that? Or is he you know, does he have sort of an ulterior? Agenda here. Mitch McConnell was going further than I've ever seen him before, in terms of what might happen if there were to be a in impeachment trial in the Senate, suggesting that he was really trying to make a break and President Trump But in the days that followed that, really now, the weeks that followed that McConnell seems to be taking a different tack. I have been told by sources in Congress that McConnell, Maybe one of the people whose coalescing around this idea that this is impeachment trial is not constitutional. I don't want to say that he thinks it's a legitimate but not constitutional, and that the president has already left office. I think there's been a bit of a change in position for Mitch McConnell. What about pressure on the new president to sort of not interfere and let this trial happen? However, the Senate wants that to happen. Because it's clearly been at least slow down portions of his agenda just as he's trying to do as much as he can as fast as he can. Right. There's no question that a Senate trial Is going to affect Joe Biden's agenda and how quickly he gets his confirmations die. How quickly he could get some of his signature legislation through that, said Joe Biden is a you know an alumnus understand it. He knows that the Senate Act is an independent body. It's been said that there are 100 presidents that inhabit the Senate. I mean, clearly they are of their own minds. So for a president to say, Well, this is how I think the Senate should do. It is not gonna fly very well on Capitol Hill. So is a student as an alumnus. Understand it. Biden. I think his wisely stepping back to say, Look, this is your deal. You handle it. You handle it The way you will atone east in the public statements. I wouldn't be surprised if behind the scenes in private. He is raising some concerns about what might happen in the next few weeks in the Senate, but but clearly he's he's taking a step back to say. San. It's an independent body. I'm not about to tell them what to do, because if he were, he would likely get some blowback from them, and he definitely needs to send it if he wants to get his agenda troop I know you've covered the White House for a long time help big of a contrast is the start of this administration compared to the start of the Trump administration. Yeah, it's markedly different from from from out of the gate with the Trump administration. We were going 100 Miles an hour on the roller coaster and that never stopped. Even if you look to the very first briefing was Sean Spicer, where Spicer came out and and ripped the press for allegedly lying about the numbers of people who went to the inauguration all the way up until the last press conference from Keighley back in it, they were contentious, combative affairs. That really sort of was the hallmark of the Trump administration that it was a contentious, combative administration. This administration is much more located. Briefings are cordial. I don't want to say they're collegial, but they're definitely cordial, even though I think Jen Psaki is getting some more pointed questions, and she wasn't the first couple of great things, and I think that that's the way that this administration is going to progress. It will be a kind of a Let's get business done type of administration, as opposed to this grand show that President Trump in that shed, though I think that Joe Biden does face some headwinds in terms of getting his agenda through because he is beset with a number of different crises, and now he owns them. He's the president.
Cornyn calls Trump impeachment trial ‘bad idea,’ warning of precedent for future ex-presidents

You had Mitt Romney, calling it madness. That's been interesting to watch. "So what do you make of the president's statement this morning about a background checks well you know the the bill that that he's saying that he's coming out in favour for working with us senator john cornyn of texas and also senator chris murphy of connecticut is more of a bill that kinda makes tweaks to the current system in other words holding some of these government agencies accountable for i'm not uploading relevant information to the federal background check system so the sort of figure out a way to tighten that system now that's clearly not as much as what a most democrats would want of course trump you know should be noted had laid out his position in his book the america we deserve in two thousand and he called out the nra writing that geno early he does not support gun controls but he said quote i support the ban on assault weapons and i also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun which is fairly interesting considering today he tweeted that we should have a good and reflective of presidents come but clearly he'd flipflopped on this during the campaign and has strong support from the nra and has not come out in support of assault weapons van we'll so we'll talk about with all of his more just a second but but let's spend another minute about talking about this exact bill in what the president has said he may throw his support behind because as you mentioned it's a it's a bipartisan bill in the senate from a chris murphy and john cornyn um it was introduced what late last year but hasn't made much progress we should say that on the house side of things at the end of last year there was kind of a similar bill right that would have filled holes in the background check system but that came along with a provision that would have allowed people with concealed carry licenses to use those licences across state lines which is what made it a tough fight in the senate so i guess what i'm saying is is that is it seems as if no change the background system can pass all of congress without sinn relax asians and other gun regulations while remember.
