Erich Pratt and Doug Unpack the Latest Gun Legislation
"They're trying to stop me from selling my neighbor a gun. Or in that's exactly what they're doing. And to do so, what the gun control groups won't tell you is the only way and it was all Gabby Giffords group and some others, you know, website basically saying, the only way to actually enforce that is to have registration. The only way to enforce to know that if I'm selling a gun or it shows up later is to have a registration of that transaction. Here's what they did. And Eric, this is just beyond understanding in the Senate. How this actually got through. They took it from where it was basically if you did it for a livelihood or gain profit, the two prongs here, and they took out basically livelihood. They took out the base for what we'll call the financial game party and only said if you have a profit and even basically they gutted it too, tell people how this really is going to affect because I'm not sure even to this day John cornyn and some of the others actually looked at this bill. This was the best slide of hand by the Democrats on gun control in 50 years. No, you're absolutely right. It was really disgusting what happened. Basically, the only way that you could get around this provision that we're talking about is for you to give away your firearms, which you might do as a dad or a grandfather and passing them out to your children and grandchildren as an inheritance. But otherwise, you're absolutely right. If you make a profit on your gun, then they'll come to you and say, well, did you have an FFL? And if not, you're in big trouble. You know, senator Chris Murphy, who was, of course, one of the guys on the left who was spearheading this and was working this with senator cornyn Republican of Texas. As the bill was being passed, he went on MSNBC and he said, that this provision alone, the one that we're talking about is going to cause thousands of more gun sales in the country to go through the background check system. And that's ultimately what the dream of the anti gun left is is to register every gun sale, every gun in America, ATF, has already admitted that they have almost 900 million records that are digitized. They have almost a billion records and 900 million are digitized. So pushing for more gun sales to have a 44 73 form gives the ATF a record of almost every gun sale and provides them the list that let's face it. That can become a future gun confiscation list.
Are Republicans Trying to Vote Against Anything Good?
"Charlie, and then here we are in the middle of Republicans voting against burn pit. Veterans with cancer. You cornyn said, mister president, the passage would not have been delayed if senator Schumer had kept his promise. You just said a man would not even a wisp of conscience. They just say it out loud. This was petty and vindictive. And we're going to punish veterans with cancer. Yeah, and what promise did Schumer break not to pass any legislation to help people? Right. Right. Is there some sort of was there some sort of deal? Not to do the minimum it takes to save the planet.
Caller: Trump Was the 1st President Who Did What He Said He Would Do
"I just wanted to mention you talk about the Republican versus Democrat. Honestly, I think deep down Republicans want exactly the same thing as the Democrat. They just want to say it. You know, Biden and mister Trump both have some very good qualities about them. They will tell you what they're going to do and do what they tell you they don't do. And that said, mister Trump is the first president and I can remember actually did what he said he was going to do. First Republican president. Ronnie, he did everything and he could to make things move forward, but he was fighting the entire time, I just wish he had had I wish it had the Congress to back him up rather than chasing all these ghosts. Well, the problem is, Ronnie, that you got this big swamp. You've got the deep state. A lot of people don't realize that there are a lot of Republicans in that swamp too. A lot of Republicans in the Jeep state. And you're right, I do think that the establishment Republicans and the Democrats work in cahoots, so we certainly saw that under the gun grab legislation that John cornyn pushed through, we're going to see that with the Amnesty push that's going to be coming that corn in is going to support no doubt about that. And Donald Trump came in and he blew all of that up and that's why they hate him and that's why they're trying to destroy the man.
Make Sure You Pre-Order 'We'll Be Back: The Fall and Rise of America'
"I am also a senior columnist of town hall you might want to check out my new column Is John cornyn on drugs Because I hope he's on drugs because that's the best possible explanation for the insanity of his gun sellout And I'm also the author of will be back The fallen rise of America a book about where we are how we got here what pitfalls we face is are we just going to fade away like Japan where everybody's going to get old and live with their cats and have no kids Are we going to have a national divorce Are we going to have a Civil War I look at that I leverage my military experience including my time at the army war college I was at the U.S. Army war college which is the Chico state of war colleges It's a party war college but I leverage that And Dan bongino has blurbed the book A great Dan bongino actually says this is a good book You're going to like it go get it Are you going to disappoint Dan Are you going to break Dan's heart Pre order We'll be back the phone rise of America comes out July 12th and you can get it on Amazon or Barnes and noble where all the other book places

I am guest host Kurt schlichter. Noted trial lawyer. Which seems to be coming in handy today. I thought yesterday was the big day O bad legal takes and then of course I'm coming out of the shower and I get a text from producer Jim. Hey, they just overturned roe and I was like, oh, move over yesterday. Today's gonna be nuts. I'm also a retired United States Army colonel. I'm senior columnist over at town hall. Read my special column asking the musical question. Is John cornyn on drugs? And of course, get my new book, we'll be back the fall and rise of America, which Dan himself blurbed. If Dan likes it, if it's good enough for Dan, damn it, it's good enough for you. Go pre order, we'll be back, the phone rise of America. That's an order. Okay. Abortion is no longer a right. Thanks to the Dobbs decision. They're going to be implications of it. And nobody, but nobody is better to talk about the implications of that. Then my friend, head of American majority, and the author of the adversary is a book I highly recommend on the battle of bunker hill. I really enjoyed it. You can find it on Amazon. Adversaries. My pal Ned Ryan high Ned, what a glorious day. What an amazing day. I mean, this is truly a decision for the ages occurred as soon as it comes down. I mean, this is truly Donald Trump's greatest. It was just, you know, I was just gonna say that Ned yesterday Monday I wrote an article called the case for Donald Trump 2024 and being a lawyer. Thursday I wrote that case against Donald Trump 2024, which I just got a picture Donald Trump signed it for me and said, I've got to do a great job for you, Kurt. So I thought that was hilarious. But look, Donald Trump, this day belongs not only to millions of people who fought for life for years. Not only for precursors like my friend Andrew breitbart, but this day belongs to Donald Trump. This would not have happened, if not for Donald Trump. Thank you, president Trump. This victory is a large part to you. No, absolutely. I was going to say thank you, praise God, and thank you, Donald Trump, right? Yes. The first to run in 2016 and then have the ability to appoint three Supreme Court Justices for us to have this day. When you said overturned, it was never a constitutional right. There is no right to arbitrarily butcher babies, AD nauseum, up to the point. I mean, the crazy I call them the crazy un American irreligious left is decided that now it's not even the Democrat party. The Democratic Party, but now they're even talking about maybe even weeks after a baby is born. I mean, these people have lost all morals all ethics. Well, look, Brian is head of American majority. You look very closely at the political aspects of this. And I've been saying all day back 30 years ago. I'm old. 30 years ago when Bill Clinton was running, he was saying, look, we want to sadly, we believe abortion should be safe, legal, and rare. And now it's like abortion should be free, fun, and frequent. And I find that insane normal people are like, wait a minute, what is wrong with you? How do you think this is going to play? How do you think the radical embrace of actual not pro choice? Bill Clinton is pro choice, but he wasn't pro abortion in that sense. These guys are like, abortion, yay. How's that going to play in November? Well, I have to tell you the normies of which most Americans are the normies. That's not in the top 5. I would even argue probably not even top ten issues. I mean, they're worried about inflation. It's right there with climate change. They're worried about all of these things that are impacting their lives right now. And so when people go to all this, you know, the jobs decision is going to help the left in the midst. I'm sure the pirates more money, they might sneak a couple house each back. But when you're losing dozens in the fall, have fun. So it might give them a tiny, tiny little bump, but I have to tell you, Kurt, if they think today is brutal, wait until the night of November 8th, when they realized they lost the house, they lost the Senate in Donald Trump's running again. Well, Ned Ryan, look, I think the house is a done deal. I think that is a baked in win. I think the Senate's tougher. Tell me what you think of the Senate rundown. And any kind of effects that Dobbs and yesterday's New York State pistol rifle association decision. Which I think is going to energize a lot of his proof freedom folks is going to have. What's the Senate race look like for you? Well, I think there's four massive pickup opportunities for Republicans. Obviously, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, and I would argue New Hampshire. We're going to be defending Pennsylvania. Yeah, no, I think Hasan is in trouble in New Hampshire. It's kind of one of those things that's under the radar, but what's your New Hampshire? We get the right candidate. Again, it's a late primary not till September. I think she's very vulnerable, but Kurt I'll even go on a limb. I think any state that Biden won by 20 points or less in 2020 is in play. That means you might even be able to Ned. I gotta stop you there. Some people may think that's crazy talk. Where do you get that? Well, let's go back to Virginia where I live in with the state that Biden won by ten points. An official blue state by now it's no longer purple. It's blue. It was. 12 point swing in one year. I think the data has gotten even worse. This is
The Gun Legislation Currently Being Fast Tracked in the US Senate
"Happened. They drop this bill earlier this week on a Wednesday by Friday. Today, when you hear this, the Senate is probably going to be voting on it to try and get it to the house. They voted on it with less than an hour to read the text. They voted on it with less than on Wednesday to push this forward. I'll choose the evening to push this forward. Again, there's just so many things wrong here because nobody is asking questions. I think that are going to come back to either be vague, not work, or be overreaching, and then they're going to have issues with it. So what is actually happening here? Chris Murphy from Connecticut, Texas, senator John cornyn. Here are the basics. And then we're going to talk about why some of these may are probably going to be problematic in future. Number one is enhanced background check for people 18 to 21. It keeps in place the current background check from 1821 within three days, but it would also require the Nick system. This is a national instant criminal background check system to check state records to identify individuals with juvenile records that would disqualify them from purchasing firearms. Now, many times if there is a violent crime or a murder, especially in a juvenile last 16, 78, this is going to be tried as an adult. It's going to show up on records to start with. Again, what they're looking for here and opening up these juvenile records is really the part that it's going to be more concerning here. Now, they did put a sunset on this, which I thought was very interesting. They put an enhanced background check requirement for buyers for 18, 21. They would expire September 30, 20, 32. And so a future Congress is going to have to expand this. The scrutiny between 18 and 21. Remember, right now, handguns, they can't buy 18 year olds that can buy long rifles. They didn't ban them for 18 year olds. But again, we're applying a different level of scrutiny than we do for anything else for an 18 year old, 18 year olds can be tried in adult court, 18 year olds can be sued, 18 year olds can be entered into lawful mining contracts as an adult, 18 year olds can go into the military. I mean, again, a lot of issues here and the issue that was coming about is saying that we need because of these events, the buffalo and the tags event. This will
Senate OKs landmark gun violence bill, House passage is next
"Hi Mike Gracia reporting the Senate okays a landmark gun violence Bill House passage is next On a 65 33 vote with 15 Republicans joining all Democrats and two independents the Senate easily approved a bipartisan gun violence Bill Thursday night Republican senator John cornyn of Texas was one of the key architects The potential we have to save lives is worth any sort of concession we might have had to make during the negotiation Democratic senator Richard blumenthal It's not the measure I would have written if I'd been doing it alone But it marks meaningful progress The bill which follows mass shootings in Buffalo New York and Yuval di Texas would toughen background checks for the youngest gun buyers help states put in red flag laws and fund local programs for school safety mental health and violence prevention The house now takes up the measure Mike Gracia Washington
Senators Frustrated at John Cornyn's Handling of Gun Talks
"What's amazing to me, Kurt, though, and maybe you can help me understand this is that corn and goes and gets rebuked to his face. I mean, that's not fun for any human to go through. And then within hours turns around and defies his voters. Is there a deeper explanation to this? Or I must this is corn and his time in the sun, right? He's the guy. He wants to take over from McConnell, who is also screwing up. I actually defend McConnell off and is a good tactical leader, but he is totally boxed this one, Charlie. I mean, he is, this is amateur hour. But he lets corn and run with this. Corn is like, wow, I'm in the limelight. And of course it goes to his head. And he comes out with this. And then like he needs a cherry on top. He's heard saying, okay, next, immigration. I mean, literally, how do you plan to screw up wars? Like I say, you would have to have a planning session to screw your brainstorming. Okay, how can we mess this up even worse? Yeah, that's bad, but you can do worse.
After Gun Reform, John Cornyn Says Amnesty Is Next
"Let me ask you a question. Just think about this. John cornyn, if John cornyn, the Republican from Texas. If he actually campaigned and said, you know what, folks, I'm a Republican. I'm a God fearing Republican, but I think we need to pay in guns in America. How many Republicans in Texas do you think it would be voting for John cornyn? Um? By the way, there's a report out. John cornyn and this, I believe, is coming from axios. John cornyn says that Amnesty is next on the table. So let me ask you, and I'm not surprised by that. I'm really not surprised. I'm not surprised the rhinos would rather put the well-being of the legal alien ahead of the law abiding taxpaying American citizen. I'm not surprised by that. We kind of expect that with this with this brand of Republican. But here's what really kills me about these rhinos. They expect all the rest of us to bow down and worship them. They expect all of us to just sit down, shut up, sit in our campaign dollars in, and donations. And just deal with it. Just suck it up. And then when the Republicans, when the conservatives get in charge, all of a sudden we become the bad guys. But the rhinos for the rhinos, it's always their way or the highway. For the rhinos, if they don't get their way, they'll sabotage you. They did this to Donald Trump. They did.
Will the NRA Downgrade John Cornyn?
"Are the Democrats are very excited. Don't believe for one minute the media's narrative. Well, it's not everything that they wanted. Nearly 30 years of protecting the Second Amendment out the window over an 80 page gun safety bill that responds to the mass shootings and Yuval, Texas, and buffalo. 14 Republicans are a party to this. Led by John cornyn, senator John cornyn has an a plus rating from the NRA. I wonder if they'll downgrade him. Do you think John cornyn gets to keep his a plus rating? From the National Rifle Association? And you know what's incredible about this knee jerk? Path towards doing something because we got to do something, even if it means shredding the constitution. If you want to do something, well, let's start with law enforcement. Responding to a mass shooting properly.
What's in the Bipartisan Gun Legislation Agreement?
"Of stuff from senator cornyn's office on the bill. It reads, quote, this is a targeted bit of a legislation addressing specific problems that have led to recent mass shooting. Get that, they're specifically addressing evolving. And there was news on baldy, which I'll come to in a second. Unless you are adjudicated mentally ill or a convicted violent criminal, your Second Amendment rights are not affected by this bill. So don't get upset. If you are a gun proponent, a gun owner, it's not going to impact you. In your law abiding. The proposal ensures schools are safe, kids are protected without placing new restrictions on law abiding gun owner. Big new investment mental healthcare, including in rural areas, more resources for school safety and school hardening helps keep gun out of the hands of those who aren't supposed to have them. Federal funding to implement programs help those suffering from mental illness, like veterans courts homelessness courts assisted outpatient treatment, increases the mental health and suicide prevention programs crisis and trauma intervention. That's all good. Invests in telehealth, mental health services in schools, including early identification and intervention. Intervention made the key to me. They've known they have known from the beginning, who the disturbed children are, and when they turn 18, they ought not to be able to run out and get a gun. And so, there are additional times for waiting if you're between 18 and 20. And if there's a reason for concern, it's a ten day waiting period, and that's good.
Senators reach bipartisan compromise on gun violence bill
"I'm Mike Gracia reporting senators reach a bipartisan compromise on a gun violence Bill Moving quickly after agreement was announced the bipartisan gun violence Bill cleared an initial procedural hurdle in the Senate Tuesday night 14 Republicans joined all 48 Democrats and two independents in support of the measure The package is a response to mass shootings at a Buffalo New York supermarket last month and that rob elementary school in ivaldi Texas days later Senator John cornyn of Texas led Republicans in the legislative talks Texans are disgusted and outraged by what happened at rob elementary And they want Congress to take appropriate action to prevent the loss of more innocent lives The legislation would include more rigorous background checks for the youngest firearms buyers more background checks for arms sellers and stiffer penalties on gun traffickers Additionally there's funding to states and communities for improving school safety and mental health initiatives Mike cross Sia Washington
Senators say agreement on gun violence compromise is at hand
"I'm Mike Gracia reporting senators say agreement on a bipartisan gun violence compromise is at hand On the Senate floor Tuesday senator John cornyn of Texas announced We've made some serious progress Cornyn is the chief Republican in talks on a bipartisan gun violence Bill The leading Democrat is senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut I'm proud of the place that we're getting to The legislation would enhance background checks for the youngest firearms buyers and toughened penalties on gun traffickers But while sentiment for some type of congressional action on guns has grown following recent mass shootings in Buffalo New York and Yuval di Texas such legislation remains unpopular among Republicans At the Texas GOP convention last weekend cornyn was booed by delegates Mike Gracia Washington
Stanley Kurtz: Why Republicans Won't Stop Civics Secures Democracy Act
"Well why aren't the Republicans speaking out against this Do they not know what's taking place I think some many Republicans do frankly to be honest I think that they don't want to take a swipe at cornyn I think cornyn has been in leadership And I think he aspires to succeed Mitch McConnell This is my speculation but it's informed speculation And I think Republican senators have bottled up the bill up to now But corn is making another big push He's roped in a few other people and I don't know whether they can stop him but I don't think they like the internal fighting amongst themselves So now that there are three Republican senators on this I worry that the others won't be willing to speak up
"The Texas GOP is Delusional" - The Rude Pundit
"By the way, the rest of the world also seems to have gone mad while I've been gone. You retweeted the new Texas Republican Party platform calls homosexuality in an abnormal lifestyle choice says President Biden was not legitimately elected and has said Texas students should learn about the humanity of the pre born child. And you just said this is madness. The Texas GOP is delusional and not living in reality. Treat them like they're insane. I mean, I think they just endorsed Putin and said no aid to Ukraine. They're just a booed. They both have no gays at their convention, no long cabin Republicans. I'm like holy crap. And they booed their senator. They booed John cornyn because he's working on the gun deal. Right, but still won't even get it done. Still probably, right? Is still blocking it. And he's got boot. And then who got a dancing? You got attacked by right wingers been called. Which comes from Tucker Carlson. Carlson coined that. Yes, he did. So they are quoting Tucker Carlson as they are shoving Crenshaw and his people. And yeah, it's like, at some point, the GOP has got to realize they're booting us out. Anybody who wants to in any way do any kind of work for the country is automatically unless you unless you are giving in to overturning the 2020 election or setting things up to overturn the 2024 election, then you have no business in the Republican
The Politics of the Bipartisan Gun Agreement
"And it's nice to have a chance to show off the ability to bring a conference together. I think senator cornyn likes that, but John thune can do that too. And he can become part of the package as well. It's just very interesting to me that that was what was on. That's underreported because of course the substance of the issue is much more important than the politics of the issue. But there is that backdrop, right? Yes, for sure. Absolutely. And I have to listen as soon as I'm for reelection, he will win handily, but I'm curious if that if that please into his calculus on whether he's going to vote for this.
Gun Reform-guns intro wrap
"Pressure grows on lawmakers in D.C. and across the country over the issue of guns as mass shootings plagued the country Gunshots ring out in Philly Saturday three dead 11 wounded one of many shootings over the weekend across the country that left at least 17 people dead in Chicago where 5 people were killed over the weekend and another 28 injured by gunfire police superintendent David Brown said yesterday we're waiting for leaders to come up with sensible gun laws How many more acts of senseless mass shootings I don't know what we'll get a yes in Congress In D.C. a bipartisan group of lawmakers back at work trying to reach a compromise on gun reform Last night Republican senator John cornyn from Texas were an 18 year old killed 21 at an elementary school said targeted reform is needed I will not settle on inadequate or downright harmful legislation for the sake of doing something I'm Julie
"cornyn" Discussed on POLITICO Playbook Audio Briefing
"Three key leaders who are committed to firearms legislation in the wake of a string of horrific massacres spoke Thursday about what they want in the Bill. In the house, speaker Nancy Pelosi blessed to protecting our kids act, which passed out of the judiciary committee yesterday. The house dumbbell is ambitious. Here's a quick summary of what it would do. Raise the lawful age to purchase a quote, some may automatic centrefire rifle from 18 to 21, banned high capacity magazines, increased penalties for gun trafficking, and straw purchases. That's buying a firearm for another individual. Create new criminal penalties for failure to safely store firearms at home, outlaw bump stocks, which effectively turns semi-automatic weapons into machine guns. And outlaw ghost guns privately made firearms assembled from individual parts or kits bought online or parts made with a 3D printer that don't have traceable serial numbers and have increasingly been used in violent crimes in American cities. Last year, the house also passed legislation to strengthen the background check system for purchasing firearms in the letter to Democrats Thursday. Places at the house would also vote on a red flag law and the built a quote create an amber alert style notification during a mass shooting, and hold a hearing on an assault weapons ban Bill. In the Senate, John cornyn, the lead GOP senator tasked by minority leader Mitch McConnell to strike a bipartisan deal on gun legislation, spoke to Politico's Marianne Levine about the state of the talks. Cornyn was candid about the difficulty of his assignment. Quote, when senator McConnell asked me to be sort of the point person on this, I thought to myself, well, this is like Joe Biden appointed Kamala Harris orders are. I accepted the responsibility with the little trepidation. The talks are fluid and wrapped in some secrecy, but Marian reports this morning that among the proposals under consideration are, changes to the background check system, additional investments in mental health and school security, and federal grants for states to establish red flag laws. Cornyn told Mary Ann, quote, I'm not talking about restricting the rights of law abiding citizens under the Second Amendment. I'm talking about identifying people with criminal and mental health problems that are a threat to themselves and others. Cornyn seems serious about passing something. Failure, he said quote, will be embarrassing. And then there's Joe Biden. At The White House at the end of the day, Biden made a rare prime time address to talk about the recent massacres and urge Congress to act. He recounted details from his trip to Yuval di, where he quote stood before 21 crosses for 1930 and fourth graders and two teachers. The names of the dead were on each cross and nearby were their pictures. In February 2020, during the presidential primaries, Biden's team needed to claw back into contention in Nevada after embarrassing showings in Iowa and New Hampshire, and they turned to the issue of gun legislation, which polling revealed as a strong issue for Biden to use against senator Bernie Sanders and the state. Biden was desperate, a poor outcome in Nevada could have ended his campaign in high profile speech in Las Vegas, he made a promise that his advisers must have known he would not be able to keep that he would send comprehensive gun legislation to Congress. My first day of office, the legislation never appeared. The last night, Biden finally outlined what he wants to do, banned salt weapons, ban high capacity magazines, and quote if we can't ban assault weapons, then we should raise the age to purchase them from 18 to 21, strengthen background checks to quote keep guns out of the hands of felons, fugitives, and those under restraining orders, passive storage laws that hold gun owners responsible for crimes committed with their unsecured weapons. Password flag laws repeal liability protection for gun manufacturers, and quote, address the mental health crisis deepening the trauma of gun violence and as a consequence of that violence. Look carefully at the actions on the House Senate on The White House and you'll see that so far, the Venn diagram of agreement about what issues to address is limited to background checks and red flag laws, but even that might be too heavy a lift for this Congress. Biden ended the wonky portion of his speech on a pessimistic note, quote, in order to get anything done in the Senate, we need a minimum of ten Republican senators. I support the bipartisan efforts that include a small group of Democrats and Republican senators trying to find a way, but my God, the fact that the majority of the Senate Republicans don't want any of these proposals even to be debated or come up for a vote. I find unconsciousable. In the two sets of Senate gun legislation talks underway. So far, there are 6 Republicans publicly involved 7 if you include Mitch McConnell. Here's what's up in Washington today at ten 30 a.m. eastern. President Joe Biden will deliver remarks on the made jobs report. Where Will the Senate Go on Guns?
"I got to say on special report last night with Mike Emanuel after then Dominic praised the selection of John cornyn and expressed doubt that anything could happen. I got to say this cut number 11. Hugh, what are your expectations as lawmakers get together to discuss a possible path forward? Well, I want to agree and disagree with Ben Mike. I think John cornyn is the perfect person having served on the state Supreme Court of Texas. I think he also at the consult with Rick Scott, who is governor of Florida. He's now senator from Florida. Passed legislation in the sunshine state in the aftermath of the Parkland massacre. But I do think there is a path forward if expectations center on how do we protect the innocent children like those and you've all against monsters like those that came. And that usually means armed police who are well trained on the campus before the monster arrives. And I think if they follow the model from mad back in the days when the drinking age went to 21, federal dollars in exchange for state legislation, those federal dollars for the police on the campuses, would I think get some states to study seriously. The Florida model and others. But I've got to say, President Biden took us all backwards today by bringing 9 millimeter handguns into the discussion because there is simply no consistent anywhere for denying people the right don't hand that. It doesn't exist.
NRA says it is "committed to making schools secure" and Texas convention will still go on

"cornyn" Discussed on The Hugh Hewitt Show: Highly Concentrated
"Now, tell us senator, you're being modest again. Just give us, you know, there's that famous YouTube video how a bill, I'm just a bill. How did this happen? Schoolhouse rock is what you get about. Yes. So, well, the way it happens is you come up with an idea and here, of course, as you know, there was historical precedent in March of 1941 when the United States was not involved in World War II, president Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the original Lin lease Bill to help Britain and our allies in Europe who were hanging on by a thread against Nazi from Nazi aggression. And so from that idea, I thought, well, it's fine to be able to provide the Ukrainians the weapons that they need. I just wish it had happened faster, but of course none of us knew the Ukrainians would hang on this long and president zelensky would inspire his nation and his people to defend themselves. So I think I reached out to people like Ben cardin and Jeanne shaheen, who gene is on the armed services committee bends on the Senate foreign relations committee because of course nothing happens around here without bipartisan support. They kind of like the idea and then we went to work and thanks to roger wicker, who was also part of that great group to start with. We just went from there. We passed it of course in the house and then the Senate excuse me, I was in the Senate and then the house and got it to the president. That's the way you make a law. It's remarkable that that happened since you came up with the idea in January. Because I actually, other than continuing resolutions and stuff that has to pass because of default and things like that. That's it. I've never heard of an actual piece of legislation requiring a supermajority moving from January to May. That is significant. Do you recall one senator cornyn? Well, we're working on another one right now. It has to do with providing the Supreme Court law enforcement with the authorities to provide protective details for the justices and their children and their families. It just passed the Senate unanimously last night and we're hoping to get it through the house in the next couple of days. So sometimes people have great ideas, but it's like they want to change western civilization and unfortunately, that takes a long time. And I think I've found that some of these rifle shots that make good progress and important areas are easier to do and that's how we got it done. We're not showing. Now, senator cornyn, a different kind of rifle shot worries me. You served on the Texas Supreme Court. You also know that a nut tried to kill half the Republicans in Congress at a softball field baseball field, not three miles from my home. And I hurry. I am legitimately worried about justices and nuts. What in the world are your colleagues across.

"I know sky. I'm from LA and a ram sandwich. I think we've got the trophy this year, but look, we have to have companies that can spend billions of dollars a year on esoteric research on basic research into artificial intelligence and quantum computing and machine learning and all the other areas of tech because the U.S. government just doesn't spend the kind of money. We're not a command economy. We spend some of the money through darpa, but even the money we spend to be dark, it gets funneled and that's an advanced research program of The Pentagon. That money still gets funneled through private sector firms. So without a robust robust private sector without a private sector with companies that can literally spend tens and 20s and hundreds of billions of dollars researching these, we're going to get left in the dust for the Chinese. There's no, there's no government equivalent to what our private sector companies are doing. So if we break up those companies, we're handing the tech high ground to China to ByteDance and TikTok and Huawei and all these instrumentalities of the Chinese Communist Party. And guess what? They're going to, you know, if you think shadow banning and some of the activities of Twitter were bad and they were, can you imagine what it's going to be like when tech is controlled and all your social media platforms are controlled from Beijing and not from Silicon Valley. Last question we got about a minute ambassador O'Brien. Why is Silicon Valley? You're California. Why are they so tone deaf? I mean, mark is the only guy who has reached out to actually hear, I don't know how much through, but to talk to serious conservatives about these issues. Silicon Valley's in a deep blue bubble. It is tone deaf. Well, it's in California and it's a bubble in California and it's fed by my former university. My law school at Berkeley and your school Harvard and Stanford and the elites control these places. And so folks come into those companies with a bias already, but I think you're starting to see a revolt even in Silicon Valley. You've got folks like Peter Thiel and Blake masters who's running for Senate now and Arizona is a conservative. You've got Elon Musk because the libertarian. So I think you're starting to see a diversity of opinion. And I also think with some of these companies, the backlash, whether it's Disney and Florida or the stock prices, I think they're realizing they can't cut out half the country. Robert sale Brian ambassador O'Brien, thank you and thank you, Elon Musk for what you've done and I hope that the federal government is adding to his own private security. The vast resources of our eyes and ears around the world because he saved Ukraine. I mean, Elon Musk save Ukraine in the first weeks of this war and Americans ought to know that. Thank you ambassador O'Brien former national security adviser to president Trump. I'll be right back. Welcome back, America. I'm Hugh Hewitt yesterday, President Biden signed the Ukraine lend lease act into law. That's a very good thing. But I read The Washington Post account today and it did not know that senator John cornyn of Texas is the fella who came up with the idea back in January. We discussed it on air on January 13th. I've been tipped by roger wicker, Mississippi that John cornyn without talking about reviving Lynn lease and it happened. But John cornyn is a workhorse, not a show horse, so the senator from Texas is not out taking bows and you should be senator. I welcome him this morning, and he didn't know I was going to begin that way, but welcome and congratulations, senator. Well, thanks, you know, there actually is a lot of good work being done around here. He's just a lot of it doesn't get noticed because it's not really a click bait or something that the late night cable shows follow. But yeah, it's a good progress. And I think in helping the Ukrainians defend themselves, it's a great indication that of our staying power and of our will to support the Ukrainians. It was particularly gratifying to see president zelensky tweet his appreciation for the lend lease bill that was signed by the president..

I used to think before i got familiarized with the show. I thought that moonshine exists point to me like that's cheaper alcohol but i think there's certain like people love it because stronger right and i mean like this is the real deal right because it's not like they're talking about something very hip story. Obviously we're always done with sage and then it was processed through this essential or like this is very basic the talk about very basic just like sugar corn and water. That said like a lot of times. The water is from like the swamp that's next to it the creek Sometimes i say this is clean water in your like that. Looks less clean water. Usos dirty right to. I is interesting that people have appreciation for it. Because it's it's it's a tradition and or their want to have a stronger stuff or you need to be like an addict like a a ticket. I take it back to your to tot like your grandma's through like the the the through line between the two cultures is that Alcohol is a commodity everybody. Many cultures enjoyed and it turns out. It's not that hard. Make so like you said you just gave the basic recipe for both beer and whisky is that you just need to like the that. You can't just set cornyn there but you have to grind it. Which was like that makes for a fun episode as they run it through like a grist mill You have to be able to expose all the sugars in the corn. The add more sugar. You add water. You add yeast in there. Now you've made beer you run it through a copper pipe you now. You've made whiskey like that's how easy it is So i think like the through line is like whatever culture like whatever was nearby whether it was potatoes or it was fruit or it was peaches. It was Wherever you have starch and sugar you can't make that into into a fermented alcohol pretty easily and if you still that then you have like the you have the moonshine so i. I don't think the draw for most people's moonshine is that like. Oh i made the strongest liquor. And i'm gonna go cross-eyed and that really knocked me out. It's not like me crack. I hope but i think there's something to like a and i think i think one of the parts of the moon shiner through line. Is that like each year. They're like this is all we have. All we have is dandelions this year. Or and this is what i came in contact with a truckload of peaches so let's make it work..

So President Trump's chief of staff, Mark Meadows, He told Republican senators that there's about 45 days left in the president's terms. This, according to GOP Senator John Cornyn, they they pretty much had moved on. Top Republicans have moved on. They're accepting the fact that Joe Biden has one. They've moved on. But throwing a bone to trumpet refuses to concede the presidential election Day. Well, President Joe Biden medal says the president could be around for another term, too. But he did. I have to be honest with you. He did say that they got about 45 days left. And so John Cornyn took that, as you know it, Z done deal. It's kind of over. It sounds that way Jump in here at 51283605 90. CNN reported that Republican senators viewed Meadows message As a goodbye, Cornyn said. Meadows wanted the senators to reach out if they had ideas on things that the White House could do or should be doing during this timeframe and you know You know, we need to get with him basically, is what John Cornyn says. It really wasn't very, You know, substantive message, Cornyn added, but make make the most of it, according also described make the most Of the final days of the Trump presidency is what Cornyn says. I think that's good advice now. Meadows also said Wednesday that he can't guaranteed lawmakers will be able to avoid a government shutdown, which would take place December. The 11th according said Meadows also didn't talk about any kind of stimulus money, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed a willingness to get a bill passed. In the lame duck session to help Americans get through the pandemic. But covert 19 cases continue to spike across the country, and Tom Trump did deliver Meadows. They did bring up you know a couple of items. You know these Georgia runoff races. They're still concerned about how close they are. I think it's really important that Donald Trump has not conceded. I'm glad he did not concede it is very important that we get to the bottom. Of all of this. What? What looks like a process that was very, very uneven and very unreliable. And as it may turn out, in some cases just downright illegal. I think what he has done by not conceding and demanding and in the lawsuits that they filed in in all these different states and counties. I think ultimately that that will prove to be very important. Historically, I don't think this is going to lead to his victory eyes far as another term either. I don't sense any kind of moment. Yeah, they're finding Piles of boats here piles of votes there. None of it seems to be adding up to anything that's gonna put him over the top. But I think what he's doing is very, very important. It feels more like something's important versus just kind of a tent temper tantrum. No, I'm not going to go. It doesn't feel that way to me. It all John Cornyn and Mark Meadows. They would be very careful because if they piss him off if they piss off Donald Trump Hey, could destroy the Republican Party. There's no doubt about that if he decided to run as an independent four years from now. Republicans wouldn't have a chance well, half of their bases gone look. Half of the about 30% of Republican voters would follow Trump, and that would destroy the Republican Party. Well, I mean, it's true everything that comes out of your mouth and politics is going to mean something in one way, the other could have a long lasting effect. In one way of their other good or bad, Senator Lindsey Graham has, you know some serious questions about the melon ballots and Georgia Graham says the rates of rejecting melon ballots in Georgia for lack of match Signatures has been about 3%. "What he told the senators is that they were ready to close the investigation on General Flynn they had concerns that he was a point of contact on the campaign for the Russians. And that when they picked up the phone call with the Russian ambassador. This, he said, quote elevated their concerns and they decided to leave the case open, but it doesn't answer. This more basic question, Which is what? What's the difference between an incoming Senior official reaching out to foreign governments to start working on issues of Of foreign policy and national security and folks at home could decide whether there's the corollary between the two or it's really an apples and oranges situation. Yeah, it is, and again, that's I think one of the larger concerns here is that there is a equal Treatment under the law, despite party affiliation or or political persuasion, But I would I would. I would say that Senator Cornyn on my and I'm believe I'm remembering correctly. It was a long hearing, but I believe it was Republican Senator John Cornyn, who made the point. His view is that he felt the FBI leadership in 2016 had really gone rogue and there was not sufficient oversight. And he singled out the leadership over the fact he twosome of interfering in both political campaigns that of Hillary Clinton with a very public news conference about the findings of the FBI investigation into her emails she was never prosecuted for that, and the system is not designed to sort of Lay out the dirty laundry of an investigation unless there's a prosecution and then on the other hand, then going after the Trump campaign and that these were Perhaps the most politically sensitive investigations that the bureau would ever take on. Yet they were riddled with errors and mistakes and Omissions, and it's very hard to square all of that, when these are, you know, supposed to be the smartest, brightest, most experienced brains in the room who were leading these investigations, well said, And again, our our nation deserves the smartest, brightest people in those rooms, acting in a way that their primary interest is to protect. Our national security and my point my point just it's just a senator, Cornyn said. You know, both presidential candidates were negatively affected. Um By the FBI and in 2016 so that Z if you could take the big picture, it's about understanding where the oversight, um went off the rails and again when it comes to the Trump campaign. When you look at the issue of the surveillance and the investigation, the surveillance being campaign need Carter Page, which would have included scooping up his communications and that would include his campaign contacts. Whether that was sloppiness, whether it was abuse of power or whether it rises to the level of a criminal conspiracy. And that's really ultimately for John Durham. Um, to explain. "MJ Hagar Welcome. . Hi. . Jonathan. . Thanks for having me on. . So okay. . I I had a set first question, , but I'm going to ask my own separate question and that is we started out the clip intro this moment. . With your doors add. . You ran when you ran the last time to me was one of the most powerful political ads had seen perhaps ever was it important for you to tell your story in that way? ? You know I think part of why it was. . So powerful was the moment that it played in. . In that moment people were. . Being exposed to the horrors of family separation, , for example. . And the fact that it resonated so much with people almost. . Sad. . I want it to be successful, , but it was also kind of disheartening to hear so many people reach out to the campaign and say, , yes, , that was me I had doors closed in my face to I've been trying to advocate for. . Disability rights because my child has down syndrome or whatever it was that they were trying to be heard by other elected officials and they completely You know empathize with that that experience of going to DC and having your elected officials closed door in your face and treat you like if you're not a big donor or you don't have any political capital to barter with and you don't matter. . And so it was kind of a bittersweet thing. . It was great that it got the campaign so much attention but it broke my heart a little that people were. . So gut punched over family separation and and so used to their government just not working for them that the message really resonated with people. . And so you you lost that. . That that ad was made for and now you're running for for US Senate most polls I've seen have you around by points within five points of Senator Cornyn the Cook Political Report classifies your race as likely are which I expected to be solid are given whose Senator Cornyn is from your perspective how is the race looking? ? Well you know I mean if you I love you know just talking about like the INS and outs of the data although I do think the data shows. . That, we , have a much better shot than Beto did against Ted Cruz a lot of people think that beddoe crews race that if anybody you know. . If we couldn't beat Ted Cruz and we can't beat anybody in Texas. . It's actually not true independent voters really like Ted Cruz Ted Cruz had a fifty two percent approval rating when he wants went up against Beto. . and. . Better almost beaten and John Cornyn has an approval rating of anywhere from twenty eight to thirty two and the vote exactly the same way, , and so you have to try to figure out what the differences between the white has one why once a while popular in Texas and one's not And, , the reason that <hes> that John Cornyn is not so popular is because he there's not an independent bone in his body. . He just does he's told he does as he's told by his corporate special interests he does he's told by his party leaders and. . You know that's very Texan. . It's very Texan to have backbone and grit and integrity and stand up for your principles and so <hes>. . You know I don't really look at polling that much. . Even fivethirtyeight recently said that <hes> Democrats in Texas are always going out will recently at least maybe not always are outperforming the polling in part because you poll people with a reliable voting history and we've been forty nine hundred fiftieth in voter turnout for decades. . So who's reliable voter anymore when when you have double or triple the turnout at the polls, , a lot of the people showing up to vote which by the way the people who are getting. . Engaged to go and vote who haven't been reliable voters tend to be not good news for whatever political party is in power right? ? So we expect to outperform the Coles the polling we're we're a lot closer than Beto was in the polling against Ted Cruz and yet he's still almost beat him. . So I, , have every confidence that. . After the debate we only have one scheduled that Cornyn. . has agreed to he has kind of chickened out on the other to even though he told the Texas Tribune that he would be. . Willing to do more. . I think that he knows that he can't run on his record I. . think he knows that the more Texans learn about him the worse it is for him we pick up a lot more of those independent undecided voters because my vision for this state is a lot more in line with Texas values in. . Want. .

B. C. Mr president or don't you think you're scaring people something along those lines I'm I'm paraphrasing and I predicted last week I predict that on my show I said they're gonna edit that up over the weekend and you're gonna see headlines where you know trump doing blah blah can answer simple questions the usual stuff they're gonna take five minutes of dialogue of of a of a leader whose assemble the team and he was making every effort to honestly answer questions and they're going to cut it up so it sounds like this guy rolled in and ask one simple question and trump couldn't answer which is totally incorrect but the thing that I want to point out to you the next time you see if you have a chance looking over the shoulder of some of these media people that are at a press conference in the in the press room at the White House see if they already have notes verses are they taking notes something that I was watching in the last not this past one but the one before the big coronavirus press conference where I sometimes the president he's he's looking kind of tired you know but I think he's he's maintained his focus I can't imagine the you know the balls he's got in the air right now with this crisis but I was watching the last one and I said to my wife I said look at these people are journalists there not even taking notes they showed up with a list of things the new information is being offloaded to the American people you've got all this information all these experts every now and then in intelligent question even comes out of the press pool and there's this reporter in particular but there's others they're not taking notes they have a list of things they want to I don't know if there gotcha questions or whatever but that's something I found very interesting so I think the press blew its chance they blew the chance to step up and really report what we need to not what we need to hear necessarily nobody saying that whenever you at when when you mention this whole concept of can you focus on all the good things that are happening people immediately think at the press get self righteous so you just want me to kind of go the news well why not you candy coated a bomb in his M. for eight years you candy coat anybody alike thank you not even investigating major things that are happening in the world outside of corona virus because this is too this is just too good of an opportunity to say look look at trump look at what he's doing see that I want to go back to the National Guard thing because this has a lot of people concerned and I've seen it online so we have over five thousand throughout the nation and when you break that down of the thirty two states in various counties and what have you but actually National Guard members work and live in every community across the nation you are one possibly you know one you have one in your family they've been overseas they've been back here they have a proven track record of success supporting civilian authorities after we have homeland emergencies this is after Katrina after floods except for now the hills reporting that when asked if the White House could federalize the guard this is when trump he said and I quote he said at this point it would not make sense so what do you what do you think I think the guard is best in a state capacity with the law the commander of the National Guard being the governors and the reason I think that is if you look at the current corona virus map which shall bring up in the next break or two and I'll give you a link to it you'll see that some states are faring very well not all states are in the position that New York is in or other areas of the country there are states with limited cases zero death and things are on track with the plan in California governor new some he wants to talk more coming up your Houston's news weather or traffic.
