"By i just feel a lot. Separating the The phillies i wound up. Going with the long shot in there Number one coach for success This honor code. Philly is a half sister to date updates winter. She's from the female family of happy favor at all. Turn row pedigree and her female family you know. She was under a real rod from the rail posts in her debut bhairon be double digit blitz. Back he he hustler and it looked like she might be for that. I just really loved the way. She interstate day Founder bet straw. I think she's going to prove at distant. I don't believe the olver gets them. That cranked up at first half gay and it's the pace a little bit hot in there. that code for success is a long shot that i will be using on my multi-race tickets and then in the Era koi that's going to be a single for me. I like a seller tap Really liked that win. That day supple horses for that ran behind him aboard comeback one. Lots to like about him. He looks like a major player. Going for for us not sense so Really won't Elaborate too much number six and rates non between me and and Nick tammaro and martin were all saying go yeah. This baby ended up being having too much too much spotlight. And then i'll just. I'll get to that Race number eleven. I mean really contentious rate. But i do like number five jennings a little bit in there for him. Well moving back to the main track dot that four year. Old gelding really Ran a good rates in june. First time out could be a little bit tougher. All horses at first time out You know and Came back and won. Ninthly sprinting on the turf I thought that was a pretty solid little beal. The third place finisher came back and won his next start. So i'm giving jennings a little bit of a of an edge over flint. Rich arabian prince and the runway. Magic look decent in there. I thought The couple other place One at woodbine Brace number nine tomorrow. That grade one canadian international. I got to say when i was looking through about the first five or six courses in the field i went back to make sure they did. Change condition so like six year old buildings and older A lot of veterans in that field I think number seven bella check. I really think that this royal cold has Assad josie for foxwoods in k. racing josie carroll Won the breeders. You know race in the canadian triple crown last year on the her and Just really last two races on turf. I thought he's made steady progress. I look for him to step forward with a big effort. I'm giving number seven chick top billing at sixty one in the morning on the canadian international. I just you know he. He's kind of been waiting waiting for him to take a step forward he it seems like he's just basically still running the same races. He ran a three. But i mean i you know. There's no doubt he's going to have to continue to four but you know her for his first rate that tough allowance rates were running against on a pretty good rival. that day. I thought about kirk ran. Pretty well She ran him on the synthetic track in the last two of turf. So this is third turf star back at woodbine and i'm hoping that makes the difference and then You know in the in the woodbine mile. The piece is going to be one of the favorites. But i think I think he's proven that he could take his game on the road. Running second last palm in that fourth saturday. I look for him to keep Showing more in the woodbine mile. So i'm going with the deputy for brad cox. They're of the domestics he does. He does seem like the logical domestic and at belmont park. I won't get too creative in those tur- stakes i like both I thought created flair. Didn't have the best trips last time at saratoga. I think she'll Improve a little bit off that efforts. And i like the idea. I think he's a cold deck or gelding that needs firmer turf. You look at You know he's one. Two of his last three starts at weren't on firm ground and She if he gets the right conditions On tomorrow for appleby. I think he's going to be tough to be so. I just look at those those jockey. Covault jockey club derby. I'm gonna play a won two straight double charles appleby well and For those that are going to play the late. Pick five He got two good allowance. Races the seventh and the eighth and then a starter allowance as the eleventh. So if you go narrow in those In those rich folks derby races. It gives you some room to operate in the other three legs of the of the pick five because it's a the those two allowances seventh and eighth or quite good. I haven't looked at the eleventh yet but I'm definitely going to take a swing and finally James last-second friday push yeah. Churchill down today reykjavik's number four bosses. How eight to one of the morning line. He's interpret dirt for west alley and corey landry. I think he'll get a favorable front end trips number. Four six bosses pal. James underscores scully. One one one everybody. I got football. Pick for you like eagles. I love your eagles San francisco's banged up in the secondary nick theory on e the reason why they hired in as he can offensive game plan and get teams as well as any coach in the nfl. His ability to run a whole organization run. The whole team was the question. Mark passed at. The first test was lying colors last weekend. Eagles are healthy. They've got one of the best offensive and defensive lines in the league and they're going to be physical with san francisco and pull out a win. The home underdog. The eagles are my pick of the week in In football. I from your mouth to god's ears as we say and we will be there with with will schwartz and his wife and Are looking forward to it on sunday at the link. Nice job james. Thanks so much like they've you have a great weekend james scully. Everybody and waiting in the wings still still basking in the afterglow of the w. f. t. shocker last night i couldn't stay up dave grant but i imagine you watch the burgundian gold win last night turned it off when he threw the pick turned off when he was a pick and i woke up shots and scrambling to see what the heck happened. I just figured they had. They had their way with the overrated. Wf t- Defense figures that when they had the ball with two sixteen all they needed was one first down and then kick the field goal with no time left and I guess joe judge did what Joe judge does and Run run past kick and then sixteen. Second drive it's a pretty ridiculous. Li cow unbelievable. I guess i've over the years. I've done that a couple of times a given up and and then been surprised in the morning. I've also fallen asleep and been horrified in the morning so Goes both ways right..

It was interesting with this because she. She wasn't languishing per se. But they ran away from her early. And you could see lanteri about midway on the backstretch get a sense that it th. They will ask me what his thoughts were. I didn't see landry's comments but you could see that. He sensed that he needed to get closer and needed to be within striking this then for her rally and very very heavy ride on on that front. So just a Just a masterful. Effort than performance flannery and bells the one the majestic perfection. Mayor wins the honorable miss and adds to her outstanding resume. Race gave back only moderately moderately fast per se That with a eighty nine buyer be you know not even not even close to her best but you know that that's just. The race was collapsing. "Also to start looking ahead to the week And in fact tomorrow at a glance You've got the honorable miss the grey to bells the one dane town with neo passing corey landry bells. The one you're seventy five favorite and the pull a mardi mcgee. The open air outside box. How what whatever. Whatever there's these kinds of records and it's not. It's not just a confined to racing right. It's it it's a widespread in any sport right. When when the milestones start to get approached it it starts to watch and keep tracking and everybody stalls home runs. Right home runs all the time. You know something you'll get. He's stuck on four nine thousand nine. When is number five hundred you get that a regular basis all right well Want to once again and comprehensively. Thank everybody that. "Dc other value. Yeah hearses for me. Jim lennon For doug o.'neil there'd be a couple of times. I think that this is the type of horace that may just be sitting on one of those races right like you're looking at us that who's been running at fifty five sixty miles an hour all of a sudden you know what this this this horse palmer here has a chance to up to seventy five eighty. And you're gonna you're gonna ride a horse home before i don't mind the other horsemen. I think is sitting on a on a big race. I would like to say all your listeners and viewers is that last southerners of the kentucky derby win the lead horse gets to the mile marker so whatever washed. Let's jackson that i i. It gets the mile marker with a quarter mile toco last seven. Derby winners have either been sitting. I have been second or third. When lead horse gets to the mile marker. So what does that tell he me that the trap is carrying the horses. That can get through the mile marker if telling me you gotta be relatively close omar you gotta have it sake. That mass koertzen puts his plums on the table. And say you know what. I'm gonna make my move three eighths of a mile away from the finish line. I'm excited out there at the top of the lane and the worst. Everybody's gotta run down. So and i just say he's jim. Four of 'em horses had to leave at the mile marker. So i think you gotta think about horses be relatively cost. It's a trend. The numbers are what they are. There's not a lot of speed of the race. But i think it'll be honest. I think if we go three quarters of a mile six furlong. I think he got a chance to go omitting ten insane. Obviously the faster they go. It's better for the worse. Sookie sitting in that second or third flight so something to think about there and then otherwise i look. I'm taking us out here. But i definitely gonna use the horse. It's another type lecture. It's not the horses that ran in ran. Where park and they of the horse is saints and let me just tell you on this horse. The horse only look. There's only had only had someone rin lanna huge race of turf weight and they're big race to get ready for the for the for the kentucky. Derby had a horrible trip in came running a freight train pm. This is a horse. I think is trade very well seems like churchill i think is out strain donut gender who i like and got the rail and her. Got the number four posters this. I think you'll get every bit of fifty to one on sainthood now. Look i think he's bread to go violent a quarter. But i think sainthood is going to be used for any old after when you're watching the broadcast on nbc. I am gonna be using them. I don't care if he's one hundred to one horse doesn't always i i know is i'm gonna look at the value and look. He may run for he may ran fourteen. But i just think everything that i've seen so far with what your i think. The sources sitting on a big race may not be good enough. Jim but i. I'm gonna get my money's worth and i think i'm going to get a run because i think he'll be relatively close with corey. Landry say right now. Ready to second you and i are done. I'm gonna hit that horse. I'm gonna hit that roy. Ray i mean yeah. I understand what you're saying but i definitely will make them apart. What i'm doing. I love that. I love everything. I'm hearing but especially breakdown when you call a dell technologies advisor. You're talking to somebody who is not waiting for their turn to speak. No the actually want to hear what you have to say. They're focused on you. Ready to give advice on everything from laptops to the cloud and offer taylor solutions powered by intel v pro platform to keep your small business ready for what's next our advisers. Listen so you know your small business needs have been heard. Call a dell technologies advisor today at eight seven seven ask adele. That's eight seven seven. Ask dell help me with this because and by the way if you're listening that was some very good handicapping advice. Well this is. Why ed's ed's oh listen. You and i have talked about the horses for a long long time. I've always been really transparent about this. Some of the most spectacular and surreal days in my entire life have been at the track and revolved around that sport. Some of the most heartbreaking moments in my entire life taken place within the sport at a you know this right. The heiser indescribable the lows. At least for justice gut wrenching heavy. Had and you've been around at your whole life. Have you had a similar experience with the sport or maybe not. What's it been like for you. Yeah i've had it Look at from the wagering aspect of Of investing in a hundred and sixty eight dollars. Pick six jury over the if the old hollywood park and i was lucky enough to be one of winners and ended up cash for a half a mil one hundred dollars over me that that was the You know that was the bomb right there. That was like you know what i love this and you know sometimes you got to step up and single seventeen in one shot. And that's what i did and you know the so called history and over just for the record. I gotta even after even after on the ownership part and i've been an owner not not these in a successful as you have. But i've had some really nice sources and like i i had. I had a philly back in the game back in the early nineties and named the horse after my wife. My wife's ziona and we called it. Diana only and and i really believe diana on was the first coming of of rachel. Alexandra i like to see what's that jim and unfortunately And breeders cup weekend of nineteen ninety one. We ran The be before the breeders cup because back then it was only one day wasn't two days and unfortunately You know she. She broke down a hundred and fifty dollars on the wire when she was going to win the race. And it's a long time. It took me honestly. It took me probably three to five years to really kinda. Just get back with my heart in the passion that i had the game. Because you're trying to do everything right you your horses as well as you can is so fragile club hundred pound animals running at thirty five forty miles an hour and you could see that happening for me to pieces and i love the game. I love all parts of it. I'm proud of the game. i look at our. Their problems are game hundred percent. The we need to clean up to. We need a leader and horse racing commissioner and horse racing absolutely one hundred percent but for me to see these equine athletes and he's human jump on the back of them There's something to not only owning. But also we any that story about. Dino is just absolutely heartbreaking and i mean for any any of the equine athletes but especially one that was that special to you and i agree with you you know. I'm still not quite the same since we lost share belief in twenty fifty. And i don't think i ever will be. And i still love the game but it's not quite the same really quickly that notion of equine athlete. I'm glad you brought that up. You were professional athlete at the highest level. You had a great career. You have coached some of the athletes in the world. I have trouble explaining this notion of athletes. Can you help me with that too. What why are these thoroughbreds. In fact great athletes because they are but help me explain why they are and why you have a passion for them as athletes. Well look i think in people telling you know you've got to be. I heard the phrase that i love the opponents. As i said a little bit earlier is like four hockey and four horse racing to.

"With steve big horse racing handicapping interviews. This is really stupid. Very good thursday race ban serious to nineteen exempt to a one sports. Nine sixty four feet listening to sirius. Xm online sports and at our website to the dot com. I i'm pausing. Because i literally thought i was going to sneeze the second that kc through the switch. I still got to pick up the morning where we left off a little bit yesterday and The to a late breaking stories as mentioned the greatest honor issue that is going to make make the top end of the derby. Hit list a little theater. That obviously he's got its ramifications not the least of which opening the door for somebody down further down The point list Very very disappointed For the atoms and particularly. I made that mentioned immediately shook as one himself derby and this really felt like a great opportunity. Even if you know even if you thought that greatest honor wasn't going to be fast enough for derby but the atoms of put tremendous amount into the game and in the meantime they do have a multiple graded stakes three year old winter. And he'll be he'll be back at this is You know one of those one of those things that we get on a regular basis and You hope it's the last issue of that kind really and It's it's nothing major other than You know the turnout and a little. You know a little freshening. So greatest honor has the season placed on On hold we'll talk about the the opportunity that it affords on a wider basis In in a minute. When i talk about the lexington field because there's some funny things going on On that front and of course the focus has been the last couple of days since we had the early. Draw for the arkansas derby. That's the the big point bonanza with the one hundred forty twenty and ten and the participants their concert tour hosier and number river and superstock. I mean among the those are the five of the of the sex. You've got last. Samurai taking a swing from the heels But the inclusion of some horses in that field for the lexington and some names that we knew that for instance that proxy and and unbridled honor were showing up and there were a couple of of interesting additions including visas baffert sending be so since a right away people. Were you know a buzz It would be. I be sosa's not the even with a big effort. I mean at twenty points is not going to put you right in the in the body of of the derby field however there are some horses that turned up in here most notably hockey dad and doug. O'neill this is. This is an interesting participant. Going back to the dirt and you did win an allowance at santa anita on the dirt going six back in february. Don't forget that game against cal breads but this is. This is a calibrate with a little something extra to paul rhythm home. Read by nyquist and dad ran well enough in the ruby to be third and that got him twenty points and so a a win by hockey dead absolutely puts him in the derby and even a second and eight points. Twenty eight is going to be knocking on the door. Depending on what everybody else you know the some of the ones that are unsure about participation. So that was a notable hockey dad was a notable participant joining in here The rest of that lexington field and it's a fun race richard. Baltimore has got that maiden winter From the beginning of march noble reflection the liam's map and swiftsure turns up in here who for to going back to november and january. Forgotten about this source. Frankly santa farms home-bred that Asmussen equines involved in so swift shore. These osas mentioned off the maiden win. The improvement still got gotta get faster but certainly came back and zipped nicely out of that win a fifty eight and four workout. The other day drayton dyke gets aboard. rat or teased by the way Aboard swift shore and have your castellano for noble reflection. It's my house who was sitting with one point It's my house bob. S out of that turf paradise win and this was a late nominee to the triple crown So you know. Chances are his participation here a prep for preakness unbridled honor. Todd pletcher told you here last week that the this is a a preakness concept five points. For the honor code mandy pope home-bred coming out of a a not terrible forth in the tampa bay derby you got leper peru writing back Mario gutierrez and hockey dad for doug o'neill as mentioned johnny v and proxy And this is. Strictly a speculative inclusion steadham said no decision on proxy for derby Until after this race. He's already if he wants to. Participate already can so. This is a an evaluative effort You would think if he runs great. He runs in the derby if he runs. Good here you'd think they might wait for preakness with him. Ultimate badger for dale romans and Jim becky and jerry is mr. I did notice that i saw baqi. I saw jim back. He's got a horse with the think with pleasure somewhere else that caught my eye but ultimate badger and corey landry Good second in the hutchison stretches back out so had wondered allowance. Churchill go to mile and a sixteenth as a two year old so ultimate badger commissioner colt. Who's okay might. Just be a steady developer king fury. Ken mcpeek making the three-year-old seasonal debut. Getting going here for circle three chimneys. This was the nine hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Saratoga you'll recall that Wanted i asking one the street sense. you know kind of ran around the track in the breeders cup and popped and stopped in the kentucky jockey club and then starring in my dreams dowa stewart and actually ran okay in the louisiana derby and had a career best fig and lewis iras aboard brian hernandez junior sticks with king fury by the way and started in my dreams draws the outside it seems like starting to my dreams either draws the rail or the widest post. He's he's five extremes. So there's your there's your derby picture with just the two races. Saturday left to determine The point standings. And you know the you know the situation that has got a few courses. Like as mentioned proxy rob our sainthood all pending crowded trade seemingly headed to preakness Way burn is on the list. The revised list that darren rogers put out yesterday afternoon after the greatest honor news and i also told you that rebel romance the godolphin. Uae darby winner is destined for belmont. So those two came off and so right away forces that were sitting you know twenty one and twenty two moved up and there's still room for more move up. I keep. I keep drawing the line below obese. Ohs frankly i think that he's actually the The bottom marker right now and jose technically as your might even be as well so we'll know everything we need to know.

Mario gutierrez Todd pletcher Ken mcpeek yesterday afternoon january Jim becky last week five Saturday november doug o'neill nineteen yesterday Churchill february brian hernandez jim twenty points corey landry nyquist

"He's been consistent all year and the thing ended up paying. I i mean a very who's four hundred dollars for a dollar try and i think We mentioned this before with other races that that drive that field. There's such a huge difference with with fourteen and thirteen horsfield even nine or ten and your forefront were conditioned thinking of those full fields and then they're not full full fourteen most often so It's just it's the exponential growth in. You know people us all a lot and they back five six horses and that's that's just adds up to a lot of money when it's fourteen horses instead of rats and Definitely saw that play out even with with the obvious truck and second you know on the on the card Before we talk about the two year old's tell you who ran a very big race and it hasn't been given a you know a lot of attention because there was so much to to digest from the weekend hot creek hustle winning nat allowance was very notable. And you gotta give vicki foley credit and corey landry credit. I have not read or heard as a follow up. How much planning there was involved to have him up. Close but i knew on the backstretch included but i didn't have him you know in the in the cross country Ticket i didn't have him as prominent as as i would have liked and he i thought one one very well on friday that was That was a fantastic race industry. That extra dimension Made augur well for what we might see from him. Going forward You know the talent was always there. We voted on the simulcast. A couple of times seemed to to be win shy and a horse who comes with his run but the misses and then to see that Those tactics employed certainly To a winning effort no less certainly had to excite his connections backers. she's see what What foley wants to do next with with hakkari hustle and through the winter another performance. We should touch on. Because i haven't brought it up yet. Was that silver state effort on friday early on the card. How about that. That was nice. i mean look look like you wanted to please and ended up for five so unfortunately nothing to get to their about. I mean it. It's moment in there. I guess he you would have been one to five but You know you got you got a little bit of a boost if you were big time believer but i have to think stakes next For that one. And i didn't hear going to lawn fairgrounds. But they both have similar patterns for the older horses so Yeah that was You know.

"Byline in america surfer it not taking talk the other day and he he he was really kinda reticent in terms of discussing it because the inevitable question was did his dad's incident and jive have anything to do and he wanted to go off the record but i said i had to write one sentence about it and he said it had very little to do with his decision. It just you know it's a tough go for a lot of these guys have expressed more than fifteen times. You how difficult. It is to be a horse trainer. And all the hours they gotta put in and so will his wife. Kristen are going to step back Effective december first He is effectively disbanded as stable already. You had you know. Maybe it doesn't horses or whatever but i looked up all the stats and road all about it but It was in the thursday edition of the foreign He was a yale. Equine program graduate work for d wayne lukas for three or four years and then i went out on his own and had a modicum of success and Uhc a young nice guy like him get out of the game he he says he has ruled out getting back into it at some point but for now he's out wish him the best Who always always a pleasure to you know to to feature and and and he did well i it it certainly you know we talk a lot about you know how difficult it is to attract Clients and yeah the gravitation of of you know so many good horses quote unquote to you know to too few hands. I mean it's it's a real issue. There's there's no doubt well. Speaking of distribution horses and riders. i did see The other day that you wrote about everybody you know scattering to the winds fairgrounds turf way gulfstream etc for the winter and thursday and. That's kinda sad. The fairgrounds not going to be able to take patrons in and thanksgiving and fairgrounds is really one of the one of the really special days around the game at you know at a racetrack. But there'll be other thanksgiving's Quick update on on everybody's plans. Yeah you know is a little bit more of a viable option for some of these guys. A matter of fact. I think definitely can and then and chris landeros most notably. You're going to be sticking around. You're going to have guys like corey landry. Riding the month of december. He's got his twelve year old daughter here in laudable and So he wanna stick closer to her for as long as he could before he goes to oakland for the first time since Katrina really the. I've looked up. Corey stance roquan and Kind of stood out then he had like a hundred and twenty five in two thousand and six point. Why why did that happen. Well because katrina had been the previous year fairgrounds was shut down. So that's where he went but Anyway he's going to turf wait for awhile. Bay ronald's going there for a while Joe talamo i think he's going to california the he and elizabeth his wife take the kids out for a while. I don't know if he's going to ride any term for it or not before he goes oaklawn but anyway. That's kind of a secondary option for some of these guys right there until gulfstream. We've only got la peru and Robbie's going down at robbie alvarado's going and But otherwise they're getting mostly go to fairgrounds and then oakland a lot of these guys and the drew the card right. They drew wedding wednesday. They choose the card for for thanksgiving. I haven't Looked ahead usually Now they're doing that today. The drawn tonight now. they're done. They're drawing today for for wednesday and then tomorrow will be for thursday. Okay is the fall city and with turf on we would have had that cardinal on thursday. That's gone on. Hey this is say and then to sunday the sunday for friday. The clark draw. And i've actually this morning and Five standards was on the work tab. This morning he and the money were after work but only by standards is going to run. The clark mister money will not and i would think we'll get maybe ten to twelve for the clark which is a week from today. And by my standards. I i would think would vie for favoritism with the shook mcgahey trained code honor and You got a number of other nice sources than there such as owen. Dale and mister freeze and Should be a pretty competitive race. Nice nice well. how about How about the weekend here. let's Let's take a look at churchill tomorrow and the lukic the feature. I got a set a nine phillies and mayor's going The one turn mile Nice nice group yeah. Finite is eight to five favorite. I'm a little skeptical. I even i'd have to think. Take stand against her at that number and then grand coupe crew class. The she's the other three year old in the field of nine. She is the five to two second favorite. I i don't know about them. You know nation harbor not do anything. She didn't come back. Run too well in the in the breeders cup filly and mare sprint and finite and grand cru class where the second and third respective favorites behind her. I think i'd try one of the older scillies and there was really really got good over the winter. She's been offer nine months though. So i think gold standard cox and drew at fifteen two one to me. That's kind of an outland outlandish number the way she won last time. So i i think maybe four or five to one gold standard She might be worth taking a real close look at interesting Well nelly I have not not looked at this yet. really it is the. I will note that it's the anchor leg of the cross country. Pick five three races from ecuador. Tomorrow and the eighth ninth tenth and the seventh and ninth at churchill The chill lewke Boy really tells you a lot. Either you look at you when you see. Peter miller and michael mccarthy That and then. Of course you know marty the. There's also you know the number of horses that that ma has got in kentucky as well as as well as chat brown helping Fill and and kind of make these these cards even more interesting. Yeah i mean chad and Ted's got like a full bar. I guess it's about twenty eight horses or so with the whip backman here. They've been here since what Started the spring meet. Made right team and So yeah they have been quite. The addition. peter. Miller has been here for a little bit more than a year so he's not really surprising there with the unique factor. But why. excuse me. Michael mccarthy kind of going out of his way to send this chilean mayor nina's to this race as opposed to running her at del mar so like you said it's kind of kind of a melting pot here and can talk with both the new york and california guys and i guess that's attributable to the the you know the person the quality of the racing i'm looking i'm looking back at this now looking at this.

"Kind of prompt corey landry to get out of the gate as quickly as possible. Enter the gay jockey. So i mainly use those three to six and twelve out back up with the eleven and More than and i'm sorry. The other one. I wanted to mention that. I completely forgot his abrogates. First time starter. For steve asmussen who also looks to be training. Well and this is one that has a a good enough damn site pedigree but isn't out work and of course we've seen the outward. Do very well in this crop. And they're generally ready to run early. So i'm gonna use the shoe. I mean he's the six eight and twelve as as and the to nine. Eleven is backups. I'll point out The two hundred thousand dollar We linked purchase the spice down philly raschke for ken. Mcpeek and leap coin. the There's a little bit of Sibling activity here. This is a half to ready to act. You might remember from few years ago was a stay course and was was actually fast sprinting and going long so i turn a little turkey. Lit a bit Just a little bit there is. Yeah there's you know there's some other it's funny I think As it happens. This is a hertrich Bread but i. I think i think pourquoi actually owned a sibling of this. I think he owned one of those Babies out of here summer. A fifty four. I think was A koi horse as it happens. And you mentioned abrogate. The lead that gets us to The nightcap or not the nightcap but the anchor leg at least at churchill there is a tenth race at churchill for those that want to play the pick four pick five and actually the pick. Five churchill's starts on the turf a one mile turf as i talked about that Group yesterday which includes the sibling The dam That's a sister of california chrome The the one that That the The martin zone anyway The anchor leg of this. Pick five the ninth race at churchill mile and a sixteenth on the grass First level allowance. Yeah this is an interesting bunch. I'll tell you. I thought that there was a really decent chance that turn and burn can wire this field and i know he's breaking from the far outside and that's not necessarily ideal but when you're kind of have one way to go. I think it actually can end up being a positive. This horse was involved in a very fast paced last time. Now that being said some of those paces going long on the turf at keeneland in the fall were Faster on paper than they actually were because they monkey around with runoffs and so this was a distance that was run with a substantial run up and of course was also very very firm During this stretch of the meat. So i think we were all taken aback by how well a spanish kingdom and and and turn and burn ran that day based on the pace and expected to race to completely fall apart when they went to the one ten in three to six furlongs. It's together for the most part. I think chairman burns very dangerous. He's obviously improved by leaps and bounds. Since getting onto the turf. I think the slightly shorter mile and a sixteenth trip is right up his alley and so he was one that that i'm definitely gonna use and i was certainly that individually in the race itself a telephone talker a horse that showed talent as a two year. Old now is in the care of mike maker. And it's very clear that he's taken a step forward vince joining makers barn. I thought he was a game winner. Last time second-place. Finisher came back to win. Of course the third place finisher gear jockey looked for a second like he might win the juvenile turf last year in twenty thousand nineteen at a huge price. So i think you have to use telephone talker. Had as far as other options. I thought there were maybe a couple you could make a case for perjury trap is a horse. It's going to get a lot of support. And people might point to the fact that he had trouble s. He really didn't have any trouble that the study is is a very minor occurrence. It didn't matter it didn't affect his winning physician at all. That was the race. of course. we're montauk. Daddy opened up fifteen point lead down the backstretch and don kit got the first run before the the closers really kicked in and it ended up being kind of.

"John at the Gallup out for Necker island though I think this sources plans is getting the Gilman Ah on board. I. Think Chris is going to send the source to dead last make one run off the rails. Maguy mania loves to go up that your Churchill downs and so I think he's going to try and get the calver on that trip and and pick up some big pieces at the very end. But you know if if that paid meltdown happens like we talked about a few minutes ago I think he's going to be one more try to pick up pieces I don't know if he can get up into the top four super the top five for the super high five but he can definitely be one that will be gaining ground late. Well. The one thing you don't have to worry about with China is is the finish because. He, he will pump on. That horse it's like. There's no tomorrow and. I'm excited for McGowan and I know it came. It came at the expense of. Mitch Merle and we hope Mitch gets his. Chance. Down the road And you mentioned the rail and of course, Corey Landry and other guy famous for it and Shirl- spite. D-. What I'm hoping to track will be a little dry out though by Saturday afternoon? The new about that time you know it should be drying out. I don't think they expect a lot of rain late. So we'll see what happens but man. It's a great good field. Horses can go different places Outta here. See uh-huh a lot of speed so maybe have a staggered coming home. You know that lasts eighth of a mile maybe catches a couple of them and see what happens but I think this amount more just you know. I think he's got a trip out there now. "Earlier Gary stop by the jocks room to talk with his fellow hall of Famer Mike it's been a roller coaster week. We've we've been through this before. But not the derby. I'm happy Richard call jail. I've had that phone call before twice from Mr Mandela back in two thousand five with rock hard ten before the Breeders Cup Classic and then four years ago with the holder and that phone rang sobbed Mandela's name on there and. As soon as you see the name pop up, you know, something something's going on. And then I could tell right away by his voice that something happened. So you first concern is is is a horse. Okay. He said, well, he's going to have to scratch, but he's okay. And that was the main concern the horse is gonna be alright he's going to be able to run again. But but just the fact that you've you've gotten here with a horse like this with this kind of an opportunity with this kind of talent on of course, let the wind out of your cells. You know, it was it was sad and a hung up. But then the second thought was might man, I felt so much even even worse for for Mr Mandela man, because he's one as you all know carries one everything and he's never come into the derby with a horse like this. He's had some other derby horses. But I don't think he's coming with with with this shot. And so I really felt bad for him called him back, and he was okay. And we talked for a while and kind of gave me the long term game plan with him. And there's a good chance that we're we're gonna get to keep around the rest of the year, maybe even next year. So that's the beauty of the of the whole thing is Richard Mandella. A lot of people wouldn't even run a scope down that horse to to see what was going on and may have run and fail. And he said he would have kicked himself heady Ronnie, and you've got a horse for hopefully, the Travers midsummer derby, and and hopefully next year to look forward to and know people me what's he going through right now. And I said, well, hey, he's got a bunch of other big races to right over over there. Okay. And derby day, and he's got to be focused on that. And then then you've got another phone call. About writing another horse, cutting Umer. Yeah, it was it was crazy because you know, you go from being thinking chance to ride the derby, all of a sudden someone else's calling you. So you always excited all over again. But but in in that excitement, I'm also someone else is gonna lose you'll lose a chance to ride in the derby, which which certainly don't want want to get them out that way, it's not the way like to get one. But you know, it is my job in a best with the opportunity. And of course, I said, well, sure sure, I'd ride him, you know, and as long as everything is, okay. And you take care of everything he's going to be taking care of his well, as whatever whatever I make he makes and all that other good stuff. And so I mean, it worked out is just said that I had to pick him up this way and someone else gets gets taken off. But again, as you well know, we both fan on on both ends of it were where the guy getting taken off. And you know, there's been a lot of times guys been putting on and it's our job. And it's what we compete for. You. Gotta do. You gotta do. And I'm sure that Corey Landry's going to be harder than anybody in the grandstand or the jocks room for cutting him because he if you win at he's getting he's hitting what you get paid. So he told me in my life already. I got a chance to talk to Corey. And of course, there's no he'll he understands if he if he was in the same shoes as I was even said, of course, he'd have to accept the mount as well, he just hopes I ride a super good race. And I'm gonna give him all he was. He what happens. Listen, good luck on the and Levy Levy, and thank you. Appreciate it. I hall of Famer Mike Smith not making the walkover which began just a moment ago. He is still in the Jackson, but the trainers and the owners are making that walkover as our trackside reporters, Tom Leach, and Jeff bloom, let's check in with them. Jeff. I'm standing next to trainer Bret Calhoun his first Serbis starter. He's got the horse by my standard. Who's going for his third win in a row? And you're going to try to do it in the Kentucky Derby Brett, what does that mean to you? Everything is great race where we're having to be here and have to be here. We think we have a live horse. Brett, we're talking in a bunch of sloppy mud is that concern you at all, you know, I'm.

So he'll be giving us a report with the way jockey coming up. He had just a little bit here with news. Just now, Mike Novi writing. Was cutting humor with that. Am I that's got to be? Devastating the little unflattering four honored the jockey Bill, and you can get out talking like Mike Smith onboard a top cold. You can understand what would make that new oil. I don't know. Corey Landry's pretty track just had us up four thousand win here or his thousands win here earlier in the week. In fact, throws it's you know, that it's business as they say Corey I think bit his tongue and said will hang around and hopefully get them next year. But I think he was bitterly disappointed after what had happened. He desperately wanted to ride in the race. Of course, it was a year ago. His wife was in the cancer parade and then passed away this summer. So it's been kind of a rough go for core. He's recovered his career is going well, and now he was hoping to be in a derby. And now, he's not. Yeah. The Terry miners out amongst the strong right now. The rain is went up, by the way, Terry good morning. All right. You have to have all.

"Triple protection for optimal engine performance which shell v power nitro pro plus premium gasoline, Mike, thanks for the time this morning, you're cover the cook. In Kentucky Derby, obviously this weekend. What sort of distinguishes the derby for you in covering it? Well, at least there's actually actually we don't spend the whole time talking about next year like the NBA's v. This whole cedar. This is it's ridiculous. It is interesting. Most of the conversation has not been about the play on the court. It's about next year and actually taking away from a pretty interesting basketball here, we we don't know the horses until you into their three year old age and for the most part you may follow them in the Greek Cup to fill the two year olds. But they're one shot at the biggest event in the sport. You know, Tom Brady and the patriots can come back and try to win the Super Bowl every year same with LeBron whatever team he's on or whatever super team put together here. A three year old horse gets one shot at winning the Kentucky Derby, see that all the party pump circumstance. It's the biggest day of the year the sport. And for those who come and who haven't been here before they say, it was completely worth it. I found a lot of folks who come to the check it out and coming back regular basis, it said that much of a fun of to be. So I was going to wait to ask ques-. Alaskan. Now, then you cover, obviously, every sport. There is is this the highest percentage of fans to come to see a sporting event that actually don't see the sporting event. I think it's gotta be close. We'll we'll be. We'll be the Indy. Five hundred on NBC. Now, we'll be there at the end of the month. So a good gauge at the end of the month, the two events that have a whole lot of people don't see a whole lot of the action. At one sitting. But at least with the derby, the folks in the infield, usually pull themselves together long enough to fed on the self and look up at the big screen that sits down the backstretch, and they can see it. I think the little bit harder to have files of the oval at Indy. But it is something that people come to for a variety of reasons. Most people at the derby know, nothing about or tracing lease the people were here that just pick a name, I think of horse. My boy Jack was in the field last year. A whole bunch of people who had nothing to do with horse racing betting on my boy, Jack 'cause they knew somebody named Jack. It was named Jack. And my boy Jack's odds were nowhere close where they should have been just because people bet on the name. So actually a funny feature during the the show tomorrow, you know, very Komatsu caused a triple crown race. He's against night. I Kana calls all these racist. He went to the jockey club in New York. That's where they. Approve the names for horses. There are rules or what you can name a horse like if I wanted to name a horse might go. I'd have to get Mike golic's written approval to name that horse might go it. So there are some rules that actually have a lot of fun. It's very interesting names over the years. They're going to teach teach all of us what's in a horse name. And how these weird names come about. And some of them we talk about forever, by the way, you have my approval Mike caffeine on a delight. Yes. You do when I started owning horses. I can call my first Mike Golic. Yes. And it doesn't even have to be the best horse because that's kind of high live my life. Anyway. If Mike Golic has offspring's the next course, Michael accuser. Yes, Mike, you have my blessing as well. So your first two horses are taken care well, and I'm relatively small. So if you need a jockey, I know made for jockey. But if you need somebody to ride those horses, I feel like we've just we figured out a home Kentucky nervy path here, we feel like you take fits FIT and working in a different way in a bunch of different names, horses, right shoe fits all that stuff. That's that's the joy of horse of naming horses. But if a horse was pretty good you can't use the name. It's already been used a lot of them are already taken. So anyway, it's a fun little side. People don't pay attention to horse racing nationally as much as they do during the triple crown stretch. So this is the time of the year when good and bad like it's exposed on the sport for the most part things that happen here at the derby are a lot of fun say a lot of fun fictional scenario. There. The first time a fits wrote a goal to success, but we're talking to my career. Him hosting the five hour Kentucky Derby broadcast tomorrow starting at two thirty pm eastern on NBC and Mike in that regard with this as far as what you're getting ready to cover if this were football or another sport and the star right before the game pulled out of Tom Brady was all of a sudden not healthy enough to play for New England that would change a lot Omaha beach. The odds on favourite for this race had to pull out because of a breathing issue. How much does that change for the way that you have to cover an address this race now? Well, it helps us a little bit from a TV standpoint that it happened on Wednesday about Friday night, but you will see horses. They get scratched, you know. Right up until Friday night, Saturday morning right before the race even society what you're planning a bunch of stuff about the raise FA Britt. It's it changes. What you're doing there from Serbs or the race now Omaha pizza favorite. Yes. Was it the horse that a lot of folks considered the most likely opportunity to win the derby based on what he had done during the past year. Yes. That wasn't unbeatable horse race seven times. He had three wins three seconds and third. So it wasn't as though people were saying this, of course, cannot lose. So we didn't lose a super horse necessarily. But you'll never know how good that horse might have been. It was a pretty wide open field before Omaha beach was scratched our experts were saying seven or eight different horses. They could would Jimmy Lee C winning the race. So I don't think it really takes away and lessons of the accomplishment of whichever horse ends up winning. And then you're gonna factor in the weather. It's raining now dry later today, but it's supposed to rain from seven AM through eight nine ten o'clock tomorrow night. So it will certainly be a sloppy track of for the horses. Then you've gotta look at the horses who've done well in the slop in the past Mike Tariq oh on the shell Pennzoil performance line. It you mentioned they're sort of a wide open field at the top. We've seen the last six years. The odds on favourite go on to win the derby has that taken some of the spark out of the event seeing chalk go for that. Extent of time. It's interesting. You can look at numbers. Look at trends. You can make of them what you wish and to be honest. You think about it every ever racing form? That's what people do they're they're looking for the trends of the numbers that that sink to them to make money they say the race. But before that we've got a couple of decades where the favorite couldn't win and didn't win. So now we've flipped it around a little bit. Probably the reality is somewhere in the middle. But but I think the favorites winning all these years goes counter to those storyline for twenty years like can't the favorite win. What's the problem? Why these favorites are they nervous or they reading their press clipping buried in their oats. And hey, you know, so it goes it's cyclical like everything we overreact. I remember, you know, two years ago where you take the whole Eastern Conference to the NBA and abolish it, you know. And and now the Celtics great chance or the Sixers maybe who knows Milwaukee depend on what happens to be serious. No to to push Golden State or Houston of. Finals dependent who gets there. So it's all cyclical sports. And this is just I think a little more of a trend is opposed to this is something absolutely has taken. Hold of the sport. We're talking to NBC sports Mike to Rico WinCo Jason Fitz in for tray with my Golic. Michael junior on your podcast, you chatted with Tim Liden about some of the stories of the entrance. Why they're so compelling. Do you have a favorite store, you can share with our audience? It seems to you. Story of this group. I would. I would kind of lean a little bit towards the human story of Mike Smith and jockey here. I think it's pretty interesting Mike, Mike at two options going in as to which horse. He was going to ride. He ended up choosing Hoppy which got scratched. Okay. So now, Mike spits out of the derby. And it's the guys on the triple crown while the derby twice before he is right up there at the top of the list of premier writers in the country. So now fast forward a couple of days later here you into the Super Bowl you got the quarterback on the sidelines. So this morning, we find out that looks like Mike is going to become the jockey cutting humor a horse that Corey Landry who rides trickle down to the regular basis was supposed to be Landry wasn't officially named the writer that horse until Tuesday. So in about a stretch of a month. Maybe we've watched my Smith move around to three different horses. Now, he's gonna end up on a thirty two one shot. We'll find out maybe that brings the price down on that horse because Mike's on it now, I bet. She'll be more betting interest cutting humid than there would have been. So to me more than anything else this year. That's the one that sticks out. We've had other unique course stories in the past. But to me, it's more human this year to make certain call to certain establishment. After hearing that kind of news may give that a appreciate the info, Mike how you can never talk horse racing. The Kentucky Derby without Bob Baffert. And what what affect he's going to have an and how many horses he's gonna have, you know, win place in showing in this thing. He may have all three up Email three this year, which is incredible. Because when you look at the odds after the change of game winner improbable roadster the three Bob Baffert trained horses. You know, you can say they're one-two-three in the minds of some and a lot of that has to do with their accomplishments and a lot of the history of Baffert. He is he is Gregg Popovich he's Bill Bella check is the most recognizable face in the sport right now. And he's the best at getting his team ready to win. If you say the team is the. Ownership the jockey and horse. He's the best of the bunch. He's one five Kentucky derbies if he wins this week. He ties the record for the most ever by individual trainer. Anyone the triple crown series won the triple crown in four years. It hasn't happened in the prior thirty seven years thirty six years so Baffert has its and his horses end up getting a lot of interest. It also he gets some of the best horses because when he gets them he turns into triple crown winners. So you would not be the only person on the face of the earth to put in a ticket and say, you know, what I'll take the three Basset horses as trifecta in some way, shape or form and take my chances, and here is my lack of knowledge of horse racing. Has there been someone like a Baffert a an owner that has taken the podium are trainers like Dwayne Lucas in the past? There have been trainers that have been vote guy. But nobody's had the triple crown success that Baffert has had. He's one of the most triple crown races a trainer and this stretch the triple crown twice the four year stretch, especially.

"Trust me. They do a tremendous job page. Tuck little bit about the customization that you offer for a derby hat door fascinate, or whatever it might be. Yeah. Absolutely. We got one of the things that we've left to do more than anything because we get to see what people are wearing and really try to create a vision or look for what they have in their mind using the colors out of their grass. And that's really what pools and out that together when it all ties in the looks very nice. Do you give him some suggestions? As far as color and style for the outfit that they may have selected. Yeah. We've you know, we have drastic couple of people as well, just because Katie fashion. So we have people reach out to us and say, you know, hey, I'm I'm looking I don't know what to start with the pheasant or the how tracked into we just suggest you know, here. Give us your styles. And it's a couple pictures of what you like, and we continue some dresses make it custom. How fascinated for you? Or you can tell us what you want and ahead piece, and we can start with that route. So we have just some people from head to toe, and that's been really fun to do as well. Tell you. My wife is sitting here. She's listening to this interview. And she just showed me a picture of the hat that you design for her for Kentucky Derby for Kentucky oaks, excuse me. And it is absolutely stunning. Thanks. That's the that one's a really fun piece that we send her and Michelle's thing. Great. She's she's been so easy. She's just like just give me something and all find something to wear with it. So we love love doing that too. But that that was one of the first pieces that we made and it was inspired by European racing. So that's a really fun piece that she has that one is hand sculpted and hand painted as well. So let's talk about custom work that you guys do how much lead time. Do you need? If a lady wants to get the same colors as as her jockey silks or whatever leading up to to a big race. How much time do you need to put it all together? We can only ask for about three weeks because the order all on supply from England and Australia would try to get the finest supplies that they have. And so sometimes just the ship in from other countries the product for this plies will sing custom. So we try to try to just ask for three weeks. So that way, we know we cover all bases. Well, you know be behind running behind. But if we have this like if it's something that we already have the spies in we just typically about three days. One of the well, I guess the dominant color in my wife's had is the color pink. And that's a color that you have chosen to try to give back and be philanthropic. And you're doing it to benefit the shantelle Landry breast Cancer Foundation. Of course, shantelle the wife of jockey Corey Landry who passed away suddenly at the age of forty two last June total bit more about that initiative. Yeah. So we as. We back and for opposite until anytime, they pack out. Here's one of the you know, I personally got here. So. No grain oppressed. They say every person can be affected by breast cancer and some way whether it's their family member or spouse sister family friend, at some point until I just recently had a friend high school bagasse breast cancer stage four in shift to locates when it's on to. And you know, she said she's just hanging onto hope that there some new product a researcher team that comes out because their lives right now they that they can do. And it's a that is something that helps go toward three search or health court families that that are going through the situation. So something was going close to our heart..

"If those. Heard the discussion with Todd must have been in January, and I brought up cutting Umer because it just happened that I saw his maiden win at called her. And I like I like the way he broke his maiden. He may turn out to be the last called her maiden breaker to to run in the derby. We'll see. That that's one we may look back on. He may be the answer to a great trivia question. But the first samurai. Starlight runner yesterday wins the sun when park derby holds off. The what I consider really one of the nice stories that. That is evolving towards derby. Blaine right? And another twist of fate who at a certain point in the race. Didn't look like he was he was enjoying the dirt. It didn't seem. He kind of dropped back at one point. Then he came again. And finish strong finished wrong. And I. I don't think he did anything wrong anything to dissuade. Those that were kind of waiting and watching to see what was going to happen. He he'll certainly go on. And of course, he's got the he had the auto bid anyway for the Preakness. But now he's got a slot in the derby gate as does cutting humor. As does spin off. And actually, I I'll I do have the numbers. Let me let me do this because between. By my standards. And there's a lot of nice things about the by my standard story. We'll hit them all with with Brett in a couple of minutes. But. Gape size. He gets back to a derby. He was on a high priced derby favourite in Frisia fire. And didn't go didn't go great and finished eighteenth. And then of course, he he wrote eight bells to the the tragic. I mean, the second wasn't tragic. The second was outstanding. And. Remarkable. So. His third mount. Bret Calhoun, I which is slightly surprising. Although when you think of Brett, you think more I don't know you for whatever reason, you think some some more on the sprint side. Fair or unfair. Then the backstory behind that. I mentioned gesture Thomas. He was just beside himself was a gleeful seen in that Louisiana derby winner, Sarah go as it should be. From Kentucky and is going to be. I mean, this will be the most crazy six weeks of his of his life undoubtedly. Behind. The ownership Josh Stevens. Who of course, we got to know originally via desert arrow. And his association with gunpowder. And you know picked out nice horses. This was a hundred and fifty thousand dollar OB s April. Purchase a worse that only only breeze ten and three. So you don't have to go sub ten to get yourself. D'oeuvres yours. Dave Scanlon who's got a handful of horses. He'll start his two year old in training sale season. And we we talked to Dave, I don't know. When did we talked today a couple of couple of winters ago? I think it was actually at what it probably was this sale a couple of years ago. And he had a big sale. And this is that he prepared does a great job. So congratulations to everybody involved with by my standards. And then of course. Going further back in the field. Mentioned spinoff ran very well. So Ueno Sueno red ran a game rice Corey Landry. Looks like he's in position to go country. House was okay. He was kind of rallying lady might make the derby yet. Let's take a break back after this from Margate. At the races with feedback on Sirius XM radio. Hey. Nine Mikey here. And I'm going to tell you about an offer from my good friends at express..
