"Wow we've started with the islanders all morning. This hour the mets mash unit as they lost to the rockies three to ryan mcmahon elitist diaz with solo home runs in the second and then garrett hamson with an rbi triple in the fourth aided by of course the injury another injury. This was far guests who ran into the wall. Turn it in triple basically and three to vomits at a couple of home runs but not enough. Here's louise row haas. They've got a lot of guys out but the goals remain the same. You know go to bed tonight and get some rest and come back tomorrow. And we're going to aim for a win again and find out who the hell's playing here is David peterson he took the loss again. Doesn't feel good no matter how good you pitch when you lose you wanna you wanna help the team win and obviously a couple of pitchers that i'd like to have back up but you don't get him back. Meanwhile the first hand james. He's never done a four. I guess necessity. I don't know what they're doing. They're trying to figure this thing out along. The way mccann did homer in the loss as did brandon. Jewelry the mets now. Twenty one and twenty. And it's jacob degrom night. He returns to face. Kyle freeland later. "Back super fast. He played on thursday. So it's like you. He went home. Great baby banks are gonna give back to the park just because the baby but yeah arrow any was reactivated from the everyone. Everyone loved to see rookie back in. He went on a little mini revenge. Tour like corey. Kluber in texas gary sanchez. Kinda gave everybody a scare depending on who. You're asking i guess. On tuesday night left the game. Nobody really knew why he look. He ran as fast as he possibly could around the bases from second to third scored. I'll get. I gotta give him credit. He was hustling his ass off. I don't think i've ever seen gary sanchez. Run as fast as he did so it does not is that he cramped up he legged out an infield single on opening day and that was the fastest ever seen him. I don't know man there. Were that stride was a little bit extra The other night and he was flying he was you. He had a hell of a lot of momentum behind that ass just going. He couldn't stop at some point. Ended up cramping so. Could you be gary sanchez. In a foot race to first base. Come on are you serious. I mean you're an old man now. I'm still yes. Of course could be gary sanchez in a foot race. He's a professional athlete. That does not matter. Well you one time. Ludicrously said beat a rod in a foot race. No i said. I could go first to third faster than and i still leaving him in a foot race. It's running two basis. He runs like a frigging hops and he likes. Alex rodriguez a world class athlete. "No self respect. I mean you you literally just. You didn't see that coming right. Those they didn't see this covid. It's like the the the person in charge of getting rid of that inventory. The seventh inning. Last night must have been like a crap. What did we do. What did we do this. All right number two hagi. our guy. Hagi is getting a ton of credit for corey. Kluber is no hitter after the game. Kluber said he was unreal back there the way he goes about calling the game the way he sees thing sees things it kind of makes sense to each other. He was on it. He just had a real good feel of what they were trying to do. And call the great game so so higgi at a certain point. The staunchest gary sanchez defenders have to just throw up their hands and be like own. So many pitchers can have so much success and talk so glowingly about kyle higashi yoga and his game calling. Before you're just like all right. I guess so. Like what are you doing at this point. You know when kluber was talking about him and again. I'll go back to this conversation that he was having their there's such a clear rapport and the was was praising him in the post game talking about the dedication the game planning i think meredith asked him about you know what was the. What was it like in between the innings when you're in the dugout guys avoiding you. He said for the most part it was relatively the same. You're still going up and talking to him. He's consistently communicating about what's happening. What's going on in the game He does a ton of prep-work for the game Cone about the fact that you know they had a game plan or at one point they made adjustment slider was on point. He was locating his pitches. They brought in a changeup sixth inning which gave them another look now. Now not only is he on with his slider fastball. He's locating his pitches but now he's adding another mexican they just haven't seen the first two times through the order of the first time through the order and now you have another thing to think about and just throw them that much off their toes. I don't know who made that call. I don't know if that was kluber. If that was part of a game plan if certain things happened or if that's hagi saying look we we have this. You're on right now. let's throw it. Let's see how it feels and if it's good let's let's mix it up even more and keep them keep their weight on the back of their of their heels and it worked. He's he has a good feel for the game. There's no doubt about it when you see garrett cole and corey kluber going to him as their preferred catcher of the ball receiver of their pitches battery-mate by the way the battery shower in shopping carts. That's an all time. Classic them spraying that that for me. The battery shower in shopping carts wail even better like a towel car. Yeah they look like they're about to go on like jackass style like running going through the about to hit a curb but they're getting showered while in these baskets delirious is hagi. Drinking a coca cola is that i have to buy something getting doused by by deer and whatever else was available to to get doused it but question. They were having fun. Ken that type of game calling be taught. Can it be taught. I taught and coached into a catcher. Or is that something that you need to just have intuition and game feel for or kenley. You can get coached. You get cold. You get to a point where you have a certain amount of knowledge and i think it's going to take a lot of a back end development research making sure that you. Are you know the game plan you know. The people you're doing research higgins is receiving the information he's digesting the information. Obviously he's the only one like they're just giving him the information he's like information. I will compute. Now he's do. I'm sure he's doing his own research and disseminating in a way. He's a scholar. Look at the the way that he the way that he talks with going on like broke out on their own. You think he's going on like baseball savant looking at tendencies and stuff. I highly doubt they have a team of nerds. That are sending him searching sheets with this information. They he has all of that but he's going out and doing his own thing. He's doing what you guys has the do. He's doing whatever it takes so we ask. I think that there's a there's parts of it. I think that. Yes you have to be well prepared. Well-studied understand like all angles of the game and be able to absorb that and be able to retain it and then be able to click it back in your mind like. I don't think a lot of people can do that. Like that's not something that a lot of people could just like remember A whole bunch of information and then be able to access it in a very short period of time. That's a skill. And i think that can be learned but that's also like just a something that's different in different people that said like i think intuition and feeling and understanding like the way that the baseball is a part of it. There's no doubt there's a feel for the game. Yeah i i'd say maybe it's like eighty percent coach -able but then you have to have that extra twenty percent which could take take a game calling to the next level. You can get coached all day long if you can't execute what's being taught to you then. Then that's the problem and being executing it can happen in very different ways right Cuting new mechanic of assuring or throw or anything like that. This is executing a feel and a game plan at the right time. which which is. That's why it's coach will but at the same time if you don't have that that feel that innate ability to implement it at the right time all the coaching in the world isn't going to really solve that issue And we've seen players over time that seemed in various sports and in various aspects of the game have that next level in ability to impact a game and others. Not and i think that's a real thing in sports. And i think that's the thing that like these data nerds will say doesn't exist but me watching baseball for years and years i i know that exists. I see it. I see it like it exists. That's that's where that's where the numbers and nothing else people completely lose me. You're missing a great sport. You're missing a great game because there are intangibles that happen and madder. You're missing a great game. Was you're watching a computer program. In who the hell wants to do that. There needs to be some human element and unpredictability or else. It's no longer entertainment so so yeah okay. Though the number three thing. And i guess we entered bizarro world monday night because garrett cole got hit hard for the first time all year and i'm not just talking about giving up runs like literally. He got hit hard in the first two innings alone. He gave up seven balls. Hit over ninety five miles an hour which is crazy for garrick cold. He'll out five earned runs on monday. His era jumped to two. Oh three in. His previous four starts combined before that. Start twenty eight innings. He had only allowed three earned runs so whatever the rangers saw or whatever he was not able to execute it was by far his where started the season. Maybe his worst start as a yankee. 'cause he got bombed like know about it. Yeah and listening to his postgame You find out a lot of information. Because he's very honest In in the post game and tells you pretty much what happened. And he was talking talking about you know he would..

"Is i. Don't see anybody on the on the market. Not named trevor bauer. That's gonna come in and alleviate those concerns that's where we know there were probably guys so i think a mistake was not going harder after landslide overtures that would fit in. We agree with the luxury tax. He was making ten million dollars. This year you just don't pay corey. Kluber his eleven million. And you get lance lynn. I'd much rather have that and give up prospects. Yeah so you're trying to win a world series. I i agree with you. I thought was a perfect fit for this roster. He's a perfect fit. He's adorable. I we know what he is. He smells like hotdogs. It's a good deal for the new york yankees. That that kind of guy you can rely upon. That's a hawse. Give me that guy. He doesn't have to be the number one. You know one of the best pitchers in baseball which he was showing last year but he can do years in a row. He was showing. He can show that. He's you know a good pitcher a two three guide. That's that's what you would need him to be in this in this rotation and he fits that beautifully and if you get more than that great and that's a guy who showed it recently so yes. I do agree with that. I think that's that's one of the miss on on their end. Although you could argue that cashman did identify that talent correctly the first time and then and then screw it up. And then he wasn't sticking to his guns with it. I guess who got fooled andrzej happen the hell knows. That's i can't go back down that that path but there's nobody else today. Taiwan walker is not gonna make me feel better no but also the padres traded for joe musco flake yesterday trademark and. I'm talking with the free agency. Market the trademark shakey's heavy. Why aren't the yankees more active on the trade market. Maybe maybe to your point that maybe cashman is a little gun shy in that and they're just identifying these situations and i don't know talent they don't agree with what was given from us growth that they didn't want to go to that level or they don't have. I don't know what the reasons are. It's clearly there are attached. I'm sure cashman's having conversations with gm's that are making these guys available and for whatever reason whether it's a deal it's not as good or they don't believe in the player they're not there so you got to believe that that they're this castio. Rumor mill has some some legs to it. Right there smoke. There's usually fire so there were conversation. Come back around. it could come back. I until the playoffs are so far away but we sit here today. It's not even february and we know the yankees don't have enough pitching. Maybe that'll change between now tober but if it doesn't change between now and october we're going to be sitting here seven months from now talking about the same shit. The same thing that bit keeps biting this team in the ass year after year. Why do they keep getting bounced from the playoffs. Because they can't make contact enough and because they don't have any starting pitching your after year after year. Do you see an opportunity. Here where the yankees identify the fact that they can't stay under the tax threshold and then make a move. Or because let's say that let's say for instance if they if they were to trade. Clint frazier for A louis castio or another player. Like louis castio right now. You have avoid in left field. You can do one of two things you can stay under the luxury tax gogi brett gardner and have him platoon out there again. With whoever talk men and you know enter player here you can. You can do that right. Your offense will still probably be good. Your defense will be a be fine with with garner or you. You could go after you know a couple of guys that are still on the mark. There's george springer still out there Your boy branly still out there who would fit that beautifully and this team beautifully. So there's there's opportunities still to go over the tax threshold to make the team better. Do you think they're willing to do that. No because i think that's what if they were willing to do it they wouldn't have signed. Dj lemay who to six years part of kluber deal with the eleven million is making me think that maybe maybe for the right opportunity that they would cause they're why do you even bother signing. Dj mayhew to six years. That's not a smart. If you don't care about going over the luxury tax now you do not want to have to pay him. Fifteen million dollars in two thousand. And i told you this is a matter for four years or six years you just. He doesn't have to play if he's not good at that point. Like who cares. You're still paying. You're just eating fifteen million dollars on your luxury tax in two thousand and twenty five. I still believe that the the deal is spread over six years. But that's not based on the total amount less. I if if dj said no. I'm not doing six years. The deal would probably be pretty damn close to four or five years. Same amount of money. I don't think the money would have changed too much very involved with the way that it's spread out very very conspicuous that his deal lines up so they were able to add corey kluber and still be just under the luxury tax. This you cannot tell me. This is not premeditated. No i look. I think that's that's a very huge possibility. My thing my other side playing devil's advocate to look at another opportunity here because that's what we're doing is saying publicly the don't want to handcuff themselves that much by signing corey kluber a guy who just came off of a shoulder. Injury hasn't pitched in two years and is gonna be thirty six years old. Hopefully they didn't just handcuff themselves. Because of that role of the dice with an old man so back in two thousand seventeen the yankees did not want to pull the trigger on justin verlander. Because one of the reasons was because they didn't want to take on his salary and they wanted to eventually reset their luxury tax. I don't know if they will be that gun shy again this year. If there's a move where they could add just money and get a really quality player to add to a world series run. However i don't expect them between now and the start of the regular season to add payroll to what they currently have. I think they're going to try and subtract payroll okay. that's possible. I mean. I think it seems like they. They made their to moves and A barring trade which doesn't add payroll in my opinion the way that the the the type of player they're gonna go after is not really going to add payroll in fact it might reduce it depending on who. You're getting rid of right not a lot but some of the arbitration numbers mean if you got rid of frazier. He only makes two point. One million dollars voice could be a trade kennedy. He makes four point seven million dollars. Yup so i mean you're looking at those guys. As probably the ones that that i would i would circle or shell said gio a shallow but i would much rather trade lou voight the jewish shell at this point. I don't think your shell has much trade value to be honest. But he's a good player on your team but it's not like a big not be trade. I don't think that value actually trials void for or neither voight or shall have good trade value void a little bit more but but yet the Especially if there's a d. h. i generally don't have good trade value. That said there's just a lot of money to be shed so not there. What are you gonna do eat half of atom out of the nose contract. Wouldn't you rather just see if he can turn into another equality reliever again like because they also need bullpen help. It's not like this team is stacked in the bullpen anymore. They'd kind of have gotten thinned out in the bullpen. A little bit. Chapman's a year older britons a year older chad greens. A your older. They lost time kaley they have. They lost jonathan holder. Some may say by subtraction. I do think you're talking about johnny lasagna. How can you be bridge guy. Johnny lasagna be a swing..

"And that's what i want to talk about for for the remainder of the episode is that what do the yankees have. What do what are they capable of pulling off understanding their goal of staying under the luxury tax with before spring training or before the season starts. So we're talking about the full salary. Yeah who knows what they're going to be going to do. Midseason that's going to the season and how it's progressing and along the season is all that kind of stuff is is going to factor into midseason acquisitions. I'm talking about now as we sit here. It's january nineteenth. Spring training is supposed to start mid february and then the season is supposed to start april. First what can they realistically do in that time to improve this team even more because this team as it stands right now is not good enough to win a world series. The team at the beginning of last year at this time was better than the team this year. Well it was better on paper. It was so what we're talking about. All we do is on paper but james paxton was a guy that we were looking at his getting excited about potential because he got injured but the the on paper. There are different things so on paper. Yes when we see the names. We're like okay. We can get excited about that. That's that's a better team because that is what it is on paper but when you're looking at what the yankees have right now. It's just they haven't been in this type of position because there's a lot of what ifs but also they're not injury. What if there are those two but there are young guy. What if on the pitching side and we just haven't been in that situation in a while we're counting on you know a good amount of young guys to to to come out and pitch and i think that that's a better unknown then. Then the injury side of things grated. Injuries can happen to anybody but the ability to be a number three guy. We haven't seen anything from him As far as the potential we've seen him flash that's to me is a A more optimistic upside a more optimistic uncertainty then Going into the season with you know a guy. That's like corey kluber. Who we've seen it before. But if he can pitch for long enough time for even get close to that. The last time the yankees went into a season with this many question marks as far as young guys go in a rotation was two thousand and eight when they went into a rotation with a young phil hughes a young java chamberlain and a young in kennedy and that didn't work out too. Well not saying this is going to be a repeat of two thousand eight. Our hope not because they didn't make the playoffs in two thousand eight but you cannot just. You can't even assume one of them is going to pan out. Well i think jordan. Montgomery is is if we're talking about him and lumpy him into that category he's loving him in. I'm not saying you're good with jeff. Montgomery as as a guy that we depend on. Yes a two years out from tommy john. I'm confident that jordan. Montgomery can give you a very very solid season and you can rely on him to be a very steady three four in the rotation. He's not going to be a number two though right. Yeah i mean sure. That's fine okay. So then were looking at the back right now and Garcia schmidt are the two young question marks. And i think schmidt is even more of a question mark in garcia just because he's not really pitched in the major leagues based on skills. What do you know you mean based on skills. I mean coming up and what we've seen of him. So far david garcia. You know there are people that are would say that. You know durability is a concern for him sure. But i saw i saw with my own eyes. Pitch good major league starts. I saw that. Yes we haven't seen clark do that yet right so it was really doesn't vacuum m- be good. But yes until. Clark schmidt pitches on a major league mound a good start. That's a that's a huge unknown. Sure okay at least every garcia can take a a handful of of regular season starts last year into next year as building blocks. Clark schmidt is starting from from the ground floor trying to work up. Debbie garcia's a couple of steps ahead of him. I don't mind that because if he's just not that good Then you know we have time to figure it out especially with young guy and we know he's got good stuff we know. Aircraft was just gushing over the two of them both of them being major league. Ready gushing gushing. Gotta love erik kratz. But i'm not so sure. I could trust his opinion because i just feel like he's i love everybody kinda guy and no matter what. He's going to have a nice thing. He's going to have positive things to say about everyone. He meets cortra- bet has has risen the ranks. He's overcome the injury. He's proved that he's healthy. It does feel like this is the year for him to take the step like now's the time he's done. He's done what they needed him to do in the minor leagues. He's proven that he can come back healthy and and be that you know stable guy in a rotation. He just needs it. Now do it on the the major league level. And there's a skill level thing there and i think the yankees believed that he has the ability the skill level for his pitching those numbers to translate into the major leagues. And maybe he gets off to a rocky start. But if we're looking at a guy like that who's staying healthy running the course getting out up throwing six innings. I'm fine with being patient with him. If we're going to be patient with corey kluber on an innings from an innings perspective. We should be. We should be patient from a youth's perspective with With clarkson david garcia. Here's they're gonna be bumps but we yeah did definitely patients eighteen months and they're no longer rookies. You let them go through garcia's not a rookie. Whatever to close amuse next year but yeah you let them go through their growing pains. Sure that's fine. Because i think you can still win regular season games with that. My concern again. Goes back to the playoffs because i don't care about the regular season anymore but the concern because you haven't seen it that's it that's it it's just 'cause you haven't seen it from those guys. That's it yeah. It's not the fact that we want a young guy to be good and we want a young guy to take next level and we want a young guy to have the opportunity to take it and now they have it. Here we go. Let's go do i do. I work the because we haven't seen it. But do we want to be impatient for for maturity to happen and for them to actually figure things out and go through the motions there or do we have to like some through four innings. Five innings of corey kluber three runs. Because that's what we're going to see which is worse all day long. I'll take the young guy. I'm fine with having a couple young guys that you roll the dice with and see what you can get on the upside. But when you don't have steady guys other than one pitcher garrett cole that's a huge concern everyone else is a roll. The dice they have four. Roll the dice pitchers in their starting rotation of five..

"Even if you were to sign a guy like kluber some room you figure some things out you move this year you move this you shove some stuff underneath a couple of things and now boom you can get you can still make a trade for luis casio and oh by the way. You still have corey kluber. So i still think there's opportunities to do this. And if it's not custodio for cash to identify players like that where they can make a move have somebody that's controlled longer. The salary is better for what they're trying to do with a luxury tax. And they're giving up you know. Probably more top prospects and just overpaying for someone like that so i still think there's an opportunity there. Yeah i the the geraldine was. There was no guarantee spending the dollars. That's where the problem was trying to significantly get better unless you're going. Trevor bauer. there's not a ton of opportunities to say. Oh yes we're better spent Guaranteeing the eleven million is a little bit interesting though for for kluber and i have no clue what kind of contract he was looking for. Maybe he would not sign a multi year deal but you could have actually fudged around with the tax threshold if you gave kluber say four million bucks for this year with a team option for or a vesting option for next year where he hit certain incentives. He gets twenty million bucks next year or something like that. I mean you probably wouldn't been. You probably wouldn't have landed him because he was you know what i'm saying. He just doesn't want to do that but he's thirty six years old so even if he pitches well this year he's not going to sign a multi year deal next year is he. I don't know two year deal. Maybe if you if you show that he can do well. Though i mean he would. He would put himself in a position. I guess he yesterday. J hap- contract right. If he pitches a solid season he might get the j. deal. Maybe that's his plan But getting to the louis casteel rumors which were if you if you logged on twitter at a certain hour over the weekend the yankees had traded for lewis castio if you logged on twitter like twenty five minutes later everyone whose everyone was calling the reports bullshit so whatever But reportedly the reds were asking for gleyber torres as the centerpiece package for lewis. Castio and brian cashman promptly hung up the phone as he should have for for Lewis castio there was also rumors that miguel and do heart and clint frazier could have been in a package going to cincy. It doesn't sound like any of this is going to happen though. It doesn't sound like it. The the cincinnati gm. Also shit all over these these reports as well. But i would do that too. If i got hung up on what i was asking people i wanted. You know i feel like everybody's asking for gleyber torres every single time. They call to cashman just like seeing if he's sleeping at that moment or you're just off his game like yeah yeah. Sure it's it's not gonna happen. Seemed pretty pretty pretty clearly. That's not going to happen. I really buddy buddy. Boris i yeah i would. I'm sure there's a couple players in the league passion would do that for. But it's it's certainly not louis castio. Yes so i think at this point. It doesn't seem like it's happening. Clint frazier did the fifth year in a row. He's reverted offseason traits. Yup and him are being packaged together. As a is a popular one as well that was the original garrett cole. Wasn't it for pittsburgh which was a different goal at the time head. Hindsight's twenty twenty on that totally different one. A guy neal was was using that. As a cop and i don't see that as a cop because it was a different player so when you're looking at what he was in pittsburgh and what luis castillo is currently. It's pretty damn close to be honest if not leaning a little towards castio. Aren't you a little gun. Shy though of cashman making a move for another guy like louis castio just because of it not working out the last multiple like five times that he's tried to do it sunny gray michael pineda james paxton like it's lewis. Casteel would have been another one of those guys. I don't know man shooter shoot. You know what. I'm saying like you can't be shy. You gotta go. You gotta shoot like saying when you look at all. these vacuum. Michael pineda should have frequent worked out. It should've worked out. The guy has all of the ability in the world. I didn't i still would have made that trade today booking back like yes of course yes you make that trade he has you know what the scariest thing kaneta number one. Michael pineda worked out the best out of any of those yet. That's crazy you're right sunny gray. I made that trade again to a no-brainer gave up for sonny gray was nothing. James capri leeann. Is he still playing baseball. I know i'm being facetious for her player and fowler. Right point is i would do that again. i would. i would do that again. Brian cashman would do that again as well. Just it sucks that all of the guys that he has gone after have not worked out and it's not because they necessarily miss identified talent. It's that in sunny grace case they misidentified personality fit in new york in michael pineda's just hit the way that they handled it as well. Because you know at this point it's impossible to not say the rothschild and the way that they approached the whole sunny gay sunny gas sunny dre project was was wrong right like they had roy the whatever the the communication between them the the game plans all the approach was just wrong. It was wrong but at the same time. The player can't just completely full correctly. There's fault on both sides pineda. You could look at and and say yet you. You could identify that one as a as as a miss there were some injury. They're you know what i actually think. That's a successful trade especially considering what. He's montero us picking michigan guys. Yeah he stored ice cream sandwiches as third base coach. That guy just completely fell apart. At least michael pineda made starts for you. Yes.

Yankees, Corey Kluber Agree To Deal

"Corey kluber. Probably one of the big prizes in the off season free agency in baseball signs with that up and coming team the new york yankees finalizing a one year. Eleven million dollar deal so the yankees. Anki sound money but it's a one year deal you know. That's what free agents are getting one year deals. They're not dj lemay. You got more. But he was a free agent with the yankees. They're not trevor. Bauer still sitting out there. George springer still sitting out there. I mean if you're an owner of a baseball team and you can't bring fans in and you gotta pay the players for one hundred sixty two games to make money so not signing people too big contracts

Boston Red Sox Take A Closer Look At Corey Kluber

"There is more activity coming out of boston as well. They are rumored to be interested in several free agents and buster olney. espn's buster only reported that quote. The red sox have talked a ton of possibilities are preparing for a series of moves before the start of spring training and quote so move. Benintendi isn't the only move. That's on the mind for the red sox There's a couple of other names here. That have been linked right hander. Jayco dharavi starting pitcher. He he's up and down when it comes to his career. He was in minnesota for some time then down to texas but professional arm to come in and give them quality innings veteran relief pitcher. Alex colom formerly of the white sox in his point eight. Era from twenty twenty now. There are some concerns when you dive in a bit. Deeper into sabermetrics there is a dip in velocity and hard hit contact has increased. But you know it is a results oriented. Sport and alex colom was still fantastic for a the white sox this past summer. You have former cy. Young winner corey kluber pitching for teams on wednesday january thirteenth. So you guys may know how that workout went by the time. You're listening to this He's gonna throw about twenty five thirty pitches and it seems to be about two thirds of major league. Baseball teams will be in attendance. So the main goal is to show teams. He's healthy show. Teams that velocity is still there because he's basically missed. The entirety of the last two seasons with multiple injuries forearm torn right Throwing muscle a lot of different things going on with kluber but he could be a perfect. You know bowe bilo free agent option for not only boston but a couple of other different teams out there and the last guy the red sox have been tagged to is actually outfielder yasuko week. You know puig's been in and out of baseball and could find himself as a cheap option out there in the outfield for boston and a lot of people don't like i actually don't mind him. I liked the energy place with. I like the passion that he brings to the yard ultimately he's probably not the performer. He once was but he'll give you a professional at bats. Play hard for you. And i do think that people in boston would certainly like

"I don't think you can. I don't i think because you have to assume other guys are going to get injured. You cannot go into next year without having five like five full-time starters to enter the season. Plus all your depth every year the yankees are in this position where they get to the end of the season and they have one starting pitcher. But we i identified this this year and my gm plants that this is the year that you can't go after an extra guy like you're saying it extra guide get that death in the major leagues because you have the ability to stock a few guys in the minor leagues that have that have potential that you've seen have success in the major leagues the yankees position right now to over to over to oversee to stock up to have an abundance of supply in starting pitchers and they should do a yankees depth chart right now starting pitchers what are they starting pitchers depth chart garrett cole number one who's number two going into two thousand twenty one. That's a good question. There's d'amico hormone is controlled right. Oh god that's where you start looking at looking at control guys he's having he's having a very good The dominican pitching well down in the dominican league. So you see you see these part of the plans whether you whether anybody likes it or not. It's it's very very obvious that he's still making my point. Where the first guy you mentioned after garrett cole domingo's herrmann as the second depth right. There's nobody it's luis severino in june. Hopefully but that's it right or you're you're saying debbie garcia who has blue hair and a goatee pitching pitching in the winter leagues. There's there's country does the yankees does the yankees policy. Say anything about blue her if it's getting a little long So i think it's blue but under above the neckline. I think it's okay. This is the yankees depth chart going into next year. If they don't do anything else it's garrick and everybody armory garcia king. Her mom literally. that is the depth. Chart don't do anything else. You need to sign three starting pitchers you need to acquire three more starting pitchers whether that's trade whether that's free agent signings. I'm excited for that. So the fact that that is a. You're looking at a veteran guy on a short term deal the way that three of the way that free agency is playing out right now. It would surprise me at this point that to. Not if tanaka didn't come back to be honest. Okay so tanaka signs a one. Because he's a known quantity. Maybe they go out and trade for someone. whether it's lance land. Some hotdogs gimme some hotdog brad. Emesa meet smells out lance lynn. Maybe it's someone lesser profile than land may be they try and go after that controllable starting pitcher again okay. So that's two corey kluber. The third is james. Paxton the third. Like james paxton and corey syrup remember. Gm plants this is. This is exactly what i did. I signed trevor bauer. For this reason this is the year to do this. You go in there. Yes you go into fervour if you if you can do. If you're willing to do it go do it. But i think they should. Why are they not willing to do it because no because of a personality. Because he's i don't know if they want to spend that kind of money the scott didn't you hear how stammers so the yankees are headed tougher than anyone else and major league baseball this year. We'll guess what a guy like. Trevor bauer will will help you off the field because you're not going to get butts in seats that doesn't matter anymore. You better goddamn sells some have asses in seats for the first half of the season. You better cell some jerseys. You better do some things. That are garnering attention online. Because guess what that's going to be a value point for logging from the clubhouse if you're not identifying that as as a team right now the that there needs to be some other level of capitalisation on on the way that these players are then you're missing the boat because it's real okay trevor. Bauer might be the most famous baseball player on the planet. Right now. No stop it. I'm serious in the age of thirteen to twenty four. Do you think that most of them know who. Trevor bauer risk. I'd say i would say. I would say he's top twenty. I say hurt. How five thirteen to twenty four. You're still gonna get guys like bryce harper More well known. Aaron judge moore. Well known again. Trevor bauer is very very prominent on social media makes he. He's everywhere bregman. he's there he's there not as ever bowers top ten foot. Trevor bauer. you're the point is trevor. Bauer long is not known to. I think a lot of that demographic for the things he's doing on the field but for the things that he's doing off the field he's become a youtuber. I wanted to just quickly mention before we wrap up So starting pitching the yankees. Have i saw. I read an article where they were linked to a japanese pitcher named here. We go guess. Tomoyuki sugano tomoyuki tomoyuki tomoyuki sugano. So he played for the giants and they're expected to post him. He's thirty one years old. He went fourteen and two with a one point. Nine seventy point eight nine whip one hundred and thirty one strikeouts in one hundred and thirty seven innings in two thousand twenty in japan. Does he throw with his right hand or left. Hand is a right handed. Pitcher is a righty in eight seasons. He's posted a two point three four era. He is one year younger than masahiro. Tanaka is right now The yankees have definitely had a long history with the japanese pitchers. Tanaka kuroda egawa her kind of abu. What kind of pitcher is he. Do we know like his style. Japanese pitcher his style of pitching. Do we know what his style of pitching is he. Does he throw the ball heart. Does he throw the ball. Hard is the guy. I don't know so i think when you're looking at a thirty one year old pitcher coming over from japan one. You'd better throw a lot of strikes to you. Better be at one hundred thirty one strikeouts in one hundred and thirty seven strike now. That's just as well. Japan mexico two strikeouts per nine innings. I think it's a different style of pitching there yet to me. that's not. He's not a power guy. So i just. I don't even know anything about him. Just based on what that says that google means for me that he's probably a guy that that locates well and has a decent repertoire of pitches. And if that's the that would i mean that's how most of the japanese pitchers are i mean some of them throw very hard as well you have. You have some guys that can throw her. Look the the when. I see this age though and i'm seeing i need to. I need to be tools guy. I need him to be able to throw different pitches and be able to be a little bit of Have some deception there. It's a shot in the dark here. I mean sure. But it's i'm not depending on this at all. Yeah at him to the list. Fine adam to the list. I think I probably should have done more. I would rather go out and focus your attention and by in go get trevor bauer and trade for lance land..

Boston Red Sox Reportedly Showing Interest In Corey Kluber

"Kluber might go to boston. But that's not definite I don't know if i even want to take the chance but you tell me. Is there anything there. I mean if he goes to boston still think boston's going to provide them with decent run support. So that's good Kluber the durability has been a major concern. The past couple years. Lost some break on that curve. I i i'm just interested in seeing him. Get a regular job. But i also look at boston and say they're desperate for starters. Anybody they can get an affordable rate. Who's gonna give them start. So i don't read too much into it

"Kluber got hit by one hundred two point two mile per hour line drive, his right arm, hung limply at his side, and he tried to sort of sweet the ball with his glove hand, he came out of the game right away. After the game. Terry Francona spoke with reporters about the news. Issue reaction. I don't I don't know. I worry about the players. You know, always figure that we'll we'll figure something out as a team, but you worry about the guys because you care about them. And you know mean you saw it was it looked gli and. Just worry about guns. Corey kluber two times American League Cy Young award. Winner has a non displaced fracture of his right ONA after being hit by that line drive. His arm placed in a cast Indians have no idea how long he's going to be out. But it certainly going to be for while and Rick Sutcliffe ESPN analyst was on sports on John buccigross talking about the impact of this injury for Cleveland. The word is devastated. And there's no doubt in my mind that the fleet Indians as a team or feeling that right now, there's just so many things along with the twenty wins Corey kluber has brought to that organization. The leadership the way he goes about working his his showing up with the same face every day. I it's more than losing a player. It's more than losing a number one guy this guy the last several years is just meant so much to that organization that there's just no way they're going to be able to replace that. Let's get to it. The man. Outwards left me voice. Our on whilst. Gin. Who Shumba on baseball tonight? The legend was with Rick Sutcliffe last night at the twins an Astros game in Minnesota. And boop. You were working when the Corey kluber injury happened, but what jumped out of me right away when he was hit by that line was how it just dropped right at his feet and rolled away which meant that he basically absorbed the full force that one hundred and two mile per hour line drive his arm fell limp right away. It just had a really bad. Look you've seen it. Now. What do you think? The impact of this injury is. Well, I mean, the first thing is we were talking about a guy who's been one of the elite pitchers into sport for the last five years. It just it's a bummer when they're going to miss time. I, you know, I everybody watches sports, different reasons. I think that I'm drawing greatness. And so watching the elite guys be elite is the fun part. So there's you know, just kinda makes me sad that we're not going to get a chance to watch him. I do think this. I think the Indians were already in some trouble. You know, look, not having kluber at, you know, kluber Bauer with clever draw ready out, but you know, kluber Bowers pretty potent one two punch, but I would say this. They didn't fourteenth fifteen teams in runs scored. And I still would tell you it look. Yes. It's a big edge. Because how are they going to sustain? They were gonna stay by stopping people from scoring, but they can't score there. And like, and so like, I know that the focus is on kluber out and that makes it hard. But their problem is and will continue to be. They don't score enough runs their offense, especially what they've gotten from the outfield has been absolutely zero and high would still maintain that if you you know, I like to to look at it and break stuff down sort of into units. And if you were to sit there and say their ability to prevent rooms and split it up pitching and defense and their ability to score runs. What's their worse? Unit. Get your ability to score runs. And that is what's going to cost them the central division? If they in fact, don't win the central division. Not a fact that they don't pitch for don't prevent runs. And as they move forward..

"Right thing. He just kept walking. But he certainly made his point in that that pitch was really bad. And this one was worse than the one. He called the strike, but he couldn't take it away. He could not take. Boy, that's that's a big big out for kluber. It should have been a walk and instead base loaded. None out its second and third one out. And the guy who hits kluber the most is sitting back down. That's right. So this were Nico goodra mass to pick up his teammate Nikos had very consistent at bet. So far first pitch way inside he has to jump back and fall across home plate almost got hit Paul one. Tigers have had some success in Corey kluber twenty four career starts against the Tigers. Couple of years ago in twenty seventeen back toback starts gave up eleven runs in nine innings since then in six starts. Yeah. Nothing. And I mean, nothing against Corey kluber the one oh swinging missed because a pitch is like that. That's it. Eight mile an hour cut of the dies in under the hands of a left handed bat. I don't know of any other pitcher that can do what he can do with a power arm with the different movements and late works extreme first base side of the rubber. So that ball diving into a lefty. The one again, the cut fastball MRs into and one that good hitters count for Niko. But truly you have to find a way to get at least one run home. The Tigers have done no damage against Corey kluber last five starts his average eight innings start and is giving up just three runs in forty. The to line dry base hit into right field. Harrison in casinos will be held at third is naked and gets the ball into Santana. Big hit for Nico. Good on pick up. His teammate Tigers tie the game at one love to watch him. "The main thing is the dodgers have realized we need to make a change. They clear out all the salary. And now it could be Bryce Harper. It could be a AJ Polly. It could be Corey kluber. Here's the big thing. I'm in the throw this out there. What's better to spend all the money on Bryce Harper. The big sticking point is Harper still wants a ten year contract. The dodgers don't want to give them ten years from twenty. How about we spread it out over like thirty years? Get a Bobby Baena deal Bryce Harper or AJ Pollock and Corey kluber. What is the better move for the dodgers Bryce Harper or AJ Pollock Corey kluber? Give me the second one is one as well. Because you know, we looked you get all they enough Bryce Harper kits. Great. It's sexy Bryce Harper will help sell LA even more now that LeBron is all the dodgers may not want to lose any kind of relevancy to him there'd be playing into the playoffs. Now, suddenly it could be a Laker town. Again, they want it to be the dodgers. I can see the allure of Bryce Harper. But the allure of him is better than the reality of him. He's a guy that's not one hundred runs a grand total of once. It has major league baseball career. He can hit two forty like he's done two of the last three years. He misses a lot of times the guy gets Hirsch. Now. The other part is AJ Pollock and Corey kluber. Yes. Pollick? Is at his injury issues as well. But Pollock is a really good outfielder and Corey kluber is one of the top three pitchers in all of baseball. And if you'd say, what are the dodgers need more a really great pitcher like one of the top three pitchers in baseball of Bryce Harper. The answer is Corey kluber. They have an opinion get four guys last year that couldn't play every game because the dodgers had their positions filled to get the rest of what Jason Smith. "With a slider that through six hundred eighty nine times for a forty sixteen forty nine chase swing strike and zone rate trio there. All right. So that's going to do it for sliders. Let's move over to cutters. Now, this is an interesting one to be sure how many money cutters. Do we have? We actually have seven money cutters. And there's classification, you know, sometimes you wonder was slider isn't a Connor who knows? But I'm just going up the classifications that we have here such bear that in mind, if I if I call out somebody's naming we didn't throw a cutter I'm just going off of what we got here. All right. Let me take a drink, by the way. For example, at the top. You may have been wondering where with Corey kluber on the sliders. Why didn't he make it? Well, because it's classified as a Connor. And I love the name that Doug Thorburn has forty calls. It a slide drug to identify his slider cutter curveball combo. It's just a breaking just a breaking ball that he can manipulated multiple different ways that make him an absolute beast. But he had a sixteen percent pitch value on his cutter. He lapped the field. Next up was Anibal. Sanchez at eleven point six Sanchez reinvented himself with this cutter his fastball just wasn't wasn't cutting. It he was allowing homers at a clip that would that would embarrass Jacob June for crying out loud and his career was about done injuries plaguing him as well. And it's like, well, what are you going to do here? Tigers. Let them go twins pick them up. They didn't even give them really much of a shot. They brought him into camp for like five minutes and said, no, thanks Braves stooped him. I don't know if they were the ones that said, hey, use this cadre and see what you can do, but he took off and he had a hell of a season. I actually still kinda like, Anna. Sanchez. He's going to be in Washington this year if he's got some health. That's obviously the key. But your investment is Neil. So if he goes back to being unhealthy and not pitching, well, you move on very easily. But I like the low investment opportunity here with animal Sanchez to see if you can kind of stay in line with what he did last year. Now, not a two eighty three era again, but gimme the three sixty two v that he had as an ARA with a one sixteen one seventeen sort of wimp and nearly a strikeout printing, I'll take it all day from animal Sanchez writing that cutter and he'll appear again on this list. So we'll take a look at that here in just a few moments. Next up is Wade LeBlanc. I was talking about how. What's his name? Mike leake sustained himself for a run every year as he regularly. Does will Wade LeBlanc did his thing this year and actually put together a really nice run? He'd been really relegated to middle relief long relief for for quite a while. Now he and logged more than one hundred innings since twenty ten this put up one hundred sixty two innings with three seventy two one eighteen whipped. And it was on the power of his cutter, which he had an eleven point three pitch value with his former teammate James Paxton put up eight point two Dallas was at seven point two Jake Arrieta. He labored through this year. But he did put up a five point nine which is good for sixth. Ryan Yarbrough, the the I was calm the opening stub, but he's not really the opening stud. He's the benefactor of the opener because he came in and those middle innings and nabbed a bunch of winds just pitching solidly on the basis of a five point seven Connor pitch value CC at about the five point five. Tyler chat would despite his godawful season. Actually, put up a top ten pitch value pitch. And it was his five point three cutter. Of course, that doesn't matter when you have a minus fourteen point too fast ball. Cutters kind of mitigated there. When when you're fastballs getting out salute trounced when it's actually hitting zone, which is very rare in its own, right? And the Nathan the of all the talk about another guy who reinvented himself with a cutter, and he obviously reinvented himself to it to an even higher level. Then what we saw out of Anibal Sanchez. Now Sanchez actually had a better year..

Anibal Sanchez Connor Wade LeBlanc Mike leake Doug Thorburn Jacob June Corey kluber cutter Anibal Ryan Yarbrough James Paxton Jake Arrieta Braves Nathan Anna Tyler ARA Washington Dallas sixteen percent

"Then midnight Sunday after the let's see the eagles and Chicago. That's it. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I jumped out of Seattle in Dallas 'cause Indian Houston at four forty five on Saturday Seattle Dallas at eight fifteen I'm on after that game Sunday charges at Baltimore. One five eagles at the bears at four forty. We'll give a little more predictions tomorrow get into that a little more. Let's go to Jeff in Dover plains. Jeff you're on the fan. Good morning, sir. How are you? Man. How are you? I'm doing well. Thank you. I have a scenario. Listen to your your talk there. I wouldn't put it past the Yankees to sign Harper and Machado. And if they do that, what do you think about the Yankees packaging, maybe Andrew Harr and Hicks? To Cleveland for Corey kluber up. Second thoughts. Thank you. All right. One more player to get. If you really went that way. I don't want to give up a ham. But you know, it seems like it's it's a done deal. If they get. But Jonah that do Harvey going somewhere, which I don't I don't like the idea. I could see them signing both hopper Machado and quickly trading. Stan to the dodgers. Because. Stan and heartbroken pretty much a similar in a certain extent with power, but you get more power out of Harper's as left handed bat the in right feel he walks one hundred and thirty times, which is impressive to always be on base. Thanks a lot. But by strikes out a lot. I'd say Harper would welcome New York and the press and ups and downs. But I think he he, you know, he it's the big stage. He always wanted to big stage. You know, when you're on the cover Sports Illustrated when you're fifteen sixteen that's the big stage, and people are gonna watch you for a while. I think STAN be more happy on the on the west coast. But you know, no one's talked to these guys. He may he said, you might say, hey, I really I don't to go anywhere. I like the dodgers isn't like the west coast. But I like playing for the Yankees they might want to stay here. But if they sign them both with a surprise with any Yankee be surprised any Yankee Phoebe surprises signing both should have the money goes through the roof. But that's the problem with not the problem with the ak- did they would spend money because they're gonna make a bunch of money. But I think it'd be a better fit. Instead of STAN. But I think what they'll do is. I think Machado was the one move. They're gonna make an and then like I said, I think you you if they do sign Machado. You have to get rid of say get rid of you have to trade and do her now because I think it's unfair. To him. To say, okay. Look. China's gonna play until Devi comes back that he's going to thirty. And we'll figure out what we're gonna do it, you know? 'cause what if what if that weighs on him? And he's hitting two oh five then you can't trade them for anything. So right now before it is there's no question of a sophomore slump or any other kind of versions you would trade him now. And I think that's that's fair. I don't want to trade him. But what are you gonna do? We need your services for half a year. Then we're gonna ship you team, which you have no control saying anyway. Let's go to Ben in queens Benue on the fan. More Antonio, I'll leave the baseball to you. And it's great to hear some of these callers because some legends called up before, you know. So I I enjoy that guys and gals that I've listened to for a while between your show in the last so happy new year to you off. Let me start with Saint John's real quick the one question we had was okay. Well, good again to the big east season. Let's see what this team can do this. Yeah. Heartbreaking loss against Seton Hall. Here comes Marquette fifteen Franken nation with this kid who's been shooting the lights out and Saint John's played that beat tonight. Yeah. Who did they who have they beaten? We'll go anywhere. You know, being all these, you know. This is a this is the poor team that we always talk about and they beat Marquette rail can this as a victory in and like you said a heartbreaking loss to Seton Hall. But that's they still look like a team that, you know, Mike, Mike Golic foreign. So that's that's a great sign because you know, what it may not be the old big east the beast of the east like we grew up. You're looking at right, but it's still a dang hard division against through. Yeah. Team will have to be battle-tested and these first two games absolutely perfect. Because is what you're going to have to deal with every two to three days for the as we get into March madness. So good luck. Saint john's. This is a good science tonight. Let's get to the football. First thing. Condolences to the Purdue family on the pilot Trent and just as you criticize ESPN before. I give credit Scott van pelt the way you ended the show tonight that was beautiful man that was beautiful fulfilling a promise to the kid. And you know, what that that story touch me? I've watched people with cancer. Incredible UCS. Sometime. But you know, it's their attitude that got him off because. When when they the pick six and that kid goes out of the way to hit the quarterback and the second doing stance over the quarterback, mocking them right down. Mike UCF? What you doing why? Wait LSU up. Yeah. From that moment. Total tenor of that game change, and you see us. Give quite a few. They went hey, they got a high powered speed offense. Guess what they see in the ball? Well, keep them on the side. And I don't know how much you got to see of the the Texas Georgia game, Tony, but those were asked towards the end of the game. Yeah. The AD to work on their rule book a little bit. Okay. Oh, I mean the end of the game the last two minutes a fourth quarter. I mean, Texas has this game on the control and they were playing like fools. That's absolving. But the rest, they know he lost control of it. And. About the Ohio State thing quick. Have you ever saw like how to and how to lose a game Ohio State? Nearly did that they they just want. Okay. We'll go to relax. We got this twenty one point lead. We're good or excuse me, twenty five point lead. We're good. We're good. And they let Browning turn back into freshman Browning. When he was that hot pro passback, and he knew he chewed them up. So. I mean, it was a crazy day of football. If this is a symbol for what's going to happen. Two thousand nine thousand nineteen with all the pro games and stuff like that. We're in for some doozy's because even with some blowouts. I was entertained today. It was good. You know it again, everybody. Enjoy your new year told me once again, thanks for the time. And at least in makes tonight, Dan collapse, the third quarter. They wait till the fourth quarter. Yeah. Thank you for the time. All right. Look it even when they were doing well as it is time for him to lose this game. It just because they don't. They don't have the talent it over and over again, we're gonna take tanking digging to get beat by most teams because they're not that good. You don't get twenty games under five hundred trying to tank your twenty games on the five hundred. 'cause you're not that good. That's all it is not that good. And. Kanter can be upset that he's on the bench, and he me has no future with the Knicks because he's a quarter. He's a Senator from another era. Most sentenced today shoot three point shots. They don't have a low post game. Comes back. If you told them, look, you're low post center because we're gonna take advantage of your Heidi would like, but I shoot threes. Let's go to be carrying Yonkers PK. What's going on I adopted, Johnny? All right, man. How are you? I don't I don't care where what goals as long it's not in the National League east. And I want to say look Garris allows McNeil the opening day light up and I want talk. Frazier to go G F A list up tired of it. I don't want to see a war. What do you think about that? No. I look I I wanna see the young guys there. If Todd Frazier. Macneil if he could play thirty minute mind is leave them there and phrases on the bench. Let it'd be a coach for people, right? Bright future with him. You know, he's. I want them outta here. I don't know if they're gonna say I. That's why I don't think they'll cut them out. I I don't care. What was that? Before in the beckstead Todd Frazier. The status compared to the garbage and Frazier last year, I'd like to know Wilbert apartheid player left here. It is about the same Frazier better. Oh, I didn't play hard most of the year. So there's there's no real estate compare them. But he's not they said he's going to be in the the beauty center fielder. And if we can stay healthy. Yes, that's another. You all up something odd years old? If I stay healthy. Up to a hundred. That is so true. If we can all stay healthy will live for a long time. Let's go to John down in Florida. John you're on the fan. Hey, Tony good morning. Happy new year. Same to you, man. What's going on? I just had a quick little statement on the Yankees. And then I had a question for you about the jets on the Yankees. I'm a guy that plays a lot of fantasy baseball and stuff like that. So he's looking at numbers and stats and stuff like that. And I'm a Yankee fan me. I'm good with keeping into har-. I'd like to pass on Harper like the past Machado. I don't like Harper's up and down seasons. I don't like Machado who horribly horrible defensively the guy. I want. Third baseman shortstop these days. Well, the guy I want and not too many friends. We're talking about is. I'd rather bite the bullet do another year. And and I'd like to go Aeronautique under thirty years old. Never heard consistent numbers every year in cores and outside. Of course, if you look at his numbers gold glove third baseman leader. And I'm okay with wait until next year. You put Aaron auto at third and you got a full year and another spring training to move in the heart of I will. We could get them where you play them short. Yeah. Third base. Okay. Whereas with and do her going I'd like I'd like a full year this year and a full spring training next year to eventually meet them into first base. Kind of not not a lotta time. You know? And my thing is if you're going to have a guy that could be a liability defensively, but has the bat that he has where you could do almost fifty doubles one hundred and forty something games k with grinding it out, and let me learn at first, and then putting a gold glove on the thirty that has better numbers year in and year out that Harper minute, then BBC's any plays gold glove third base and his numbers, the splits and not horrible between cores and on the road. So that's my Anki chiming. My question for you about the jets is I've been seeing a couple of mock drafts on where they go pick three the number one consensus, I keep seeing the offensive lineman Alabama. And I was just curious what you feel. You know, the top three biggest needs would be that. They should be looking at it victory. Thank you for taking the call. Tony was great talking should jets. I would like to pass rusher. Somebody could put pressure on the quarterback. I go defense. I mean, let me backtrack. They need a pass rusher. Denisa might put some pressure on the quarterback. They also need a wide receiver that can make a noon watt and Robinson better. They they need an all pro or. The best receiver out of college. They need somebody who can really scare stretch the defense and hold onto the ball and make the place. You know, the usual all pro rookie net type of thing.
