"Mike Brown, sitting in his apartment at Georgetown College during training camp, wishing him a happy birthday. And they were They either had just signed Corey Dillon to his second contractor word or we're negotiating it, and they signed their second round draft pick Lamont Thompson. And the phone rings on his in his apartment. It's on his coffee table, and he he picks it up. And he says, Oh, hi, punky. Meaning you know his daughter, Katie. Oh, hi. Punky chick was just leaving. So it's time for a family meeting and I was out there. You don't have a DNA. Exactly right? So, but I don't know where you're going. Take what? You've got to get the hell out of here. That's exactly right. But like Tim has said, you know, a caring person and calling Beth calling me twice when my father passed and he's easy, either. Great man. People can question the way runs his team and what he spent how he spends what he doesn't spend. I get all that But you're not going to find a better man. You're right and Tim, it's time to check today's post game injury report brought to you by mercy, health, orthopedics and sports medicine caring for athletes across Cincinnati. TJ reader. Wow, Big free agent signing from the Houston Texans. Quad injury and it could be Ah, It's very serious. We're seeing reports that he could be out for the year A. J. Green got got the hamstring he was targeted, wants no catch today. And a Sam hovered running off the field with the left elbow injury. So good, that's Ah, that's all we can tell you right now. But deejay reader could be out of the hurt. It really does help to free agents are out. That's exactly right. And let's go out to the phones up to Middletown home. My home of the Middies and the Feds, Fenwick Falcons. Hi, John and Pickle Board. Yes, help. I don't think that go that plane. They'll pick a ball. I'm pretty close with that awesome. It was packed over there this weekend. Wasn't it did a good job putting on that tournament? Marking what today? I'm not saying I know the Ravens there. No, I'm not going in that much about being that much better, but I will say. I got a couple players key positions in a little bit better. Our confidence, Okay is pitiful. It's like we're not playing a top ball. We're we're not reacting correctly. You want I don't know that because of that, you know, because the veterans that I'm saying there may be possible to move on. And I said it because I'm a die hard fan I love happens. No God, but maybe we should have nothing to trade them all for younger guys. I'm saying they traded one guy's A similar talents might want to be here to fit in our skin better and add a little excitement to the team. Because we're definitely gonna be sellers, not buyers. I would imagine it's the only way we have to ask him excited that Novak has motivated better. I heard you got coming up from the earlier conversations that I don't see enough of motivation that get, you know, I mean, they like they would be before they got there. And like I said, black home, I called you about the media saying raisins air, you know, like Dallas and would come in and be before we get there even if we have a good team. I think he needs to motivate them better than they have had more more confidence in. You know Jessie's play. I called Jesse outlast. You said he was playing salt around the ball too much and not making making enough plays by calling up the assault. And he's responded to that. I know he was listening because I'm probably the only saying that and he's responded. He's playing tough, but we have other by joining in on that maybe with a few of these trade from these guys know It's a crisis that could do well in and we could get some players the same type of players that might fit in with its better, you know, and that's an excitement to this on and you can't get a vacuum on me. I know it's been somebody to get their attention like we did in the lab, But I think this is the day that exactly event for his attention. Yeah. Mike John. Thank you so much for to call. My my question. Chick is Who would want to come here? Meet people are fans candidly say things like, Let's trade this person to get someone in return. Who's going to who wants to come here and I'm not being facetious here. I'm simply going. Why would you want to come to attain that pick number one in the draft last year? I mean, they had the worst record. And they're trending in that way again this year. Why would you want to come? What? When Marvin took over the job free agents started coming here. Why? It wasn't because of the stripes. It wasn't because of the skyline chili. It was because of Marvin it wass, okay? Now we kind of know because I don't know factually. But we kind of know has been suggested that coaches would not come here because of various reasons. Zach was young. They didn't want to, You know, have to baby sit a coach, whatever it may have been Why would a player Want to come here..

Antonio Brown, released by Raiders, reportedly signs with Patriots
"The hundredth year of the anniversary of the NFL is this Antonio pound saga well I mean it's it's insane it's crazy and you know everything that played out it's almost the case where listen you know I get to the point we'll get to the patriot idea of it the raiders were left with no choice now they were left with no choice and you could even make the argument and before he went on Instagram early on Saturday morning and basically said release me after the you know two hundred plus thousand dollar fine which made his money not guaranteed here moving forward in that Oakland Raiders deal that they re worked after they acquired him from the Pittsburgh Steelers David that even before that when he say what he said you know with racial undertones to Mike may I could practice in in that once you do that you overstep your bounds as a player win in terms of you know not understanding the leadership of mac is general manager that he should be gone then but then you had after that you know the teary eyed apology that he had to the team right thirty million dollars correctly right there's no doubt about it and then he gets hit with a fine once again we're grew to make the announcement before that that he'll be playing right and they'll be suiting up and playing against the Denver Broncos then you get the fine once again then he goes crazy on Saturday morning on Instagram selling the raiders to release some and they end up really so it was a very interesting forty eight hours for the Oakland Raiders to say the least and you know first and foremost the one thing that you and. so when it comes to the NFL and when it comes to the owners the head coach and the GM the one thing that they're always looking for with leverages is how to take away your money and he came from that complete leverage I've also heard fancy well you can't you can't find star players they don't get fined they get fined each and every week if their wait for meeting if they mistreatment well I still watch go berserk it's just not something that the team put out to the media it's something that's handled in house right so if people think that star players don't get fined that's a ridiculous statement because it happens each and every week out of the NFL season and when you look at the structure of everything that happened on in experience GM if you don't think Jon Gruden knew exactly what was going on and was there a point good cop bad cop I don't know what you're thinking about Jon Gruden has to do that for the face of being the head coach because he doesn't want the blurred lines of the GM and head coach but he was a hundred percent on board with what Mike may I was doing that's why he hired him so that he basically can control the entire situation I grew the David but here's the point I have is the one I get rid of them initially you know after he gets into the altercation with may Oct the verbal one people say downplay whether how physical just was but just when you have that go down a practice and you have Antonio brown screaming what he did when I repeat it Mike mac on the practice field why not just get rid of a man don't you at that point when you decide to bring him back are you sending the wrong message to the rest of the guys on that team because you know a cures everything vitamin W. winning that's what cures everything and when you look at him with that hundred million dollar contract this team going on the road to play a division rival in Denver they're a better football team with him out on the field that being said what else is the big thing that they're looking at they're looking at next year moving to Las Vegas and having a big splash to bring that fan base and to bring a drawing crowds to the Los Vegas readers to you look at the overall landscape of things. Jon Gruden gave him as many opportunities as possible because let's face it that's what had photo gallery supreme GM's and owners to win Taylor puts production out on the field right now and they were left with no other choice and then the conspiracy theorists are that brown and drew Rosenhaus right his agent Bailey forced their way out of Oakland left them with no choice to do this and then he ends up with the New England Patriots Rosen house in the pats Abella check of a very good relationship he signs up there joins the litany of guys who've had trouble careers before going to notice anyone that's according to the in areas Tom price range of all fourth fifth. that's exactly I Randy moss Corey Dillon guys that had issues with other organizations went to New England I basically bought it and now it's a one year deal ten million guaranteed five million in incentives we can earn fifteen million dollars he's not could be playing against the Steelers later on tonight as the patriots and Steelers do battle but you will look at the very fact of now he ends up with the patriots and now you look at this patriot team with adult men brown and Gordon yeah I know no grown cow ski but you look at it and for Antonio brown everything that transpired in Oakland I would probably bet anything that none of that will transpire up in New England no because there's veteran leadership in the locker room you think about the last chance he's got without a doubt if you think about things that took place in our locker room when you have a Michael street him when you have an Antonio Pierce we have myself Chris me and other guys that our leaders that we don't let the stuff take place in the locker room and go out into the public figure who's gonna stop anything he did in Oakland there's not a single player on there that has a resume like him that could put him in his place now go into New England it is a completely different story because they've won without him and they don't need him to win but let me ask you this question now I mean sometimes guys just go author yeah I mean go off the tracks yeah know he's definitely offer the tried your office right there's no doubt about it but I my point being is that you know I don't know if even that was great veteran leadership on Oakland if they were gonna pull a massage I mean nobody could do no I don't know what what's even if there was to prevent exactly what transpired and what happened and how hay wire it got whether it be the feet the helmet how they support him through all of that and then the very fact of he they handed him down you know basically a fifty thousand dollar fine he goes haywire has the apology then after screaming at back then he gets find out once again they're going after his money and rightfully so pure the Oakland Raiders because what would lead you to believe the behavior is going to change but I'll tell you it doesn't get a say I don't get a sense even if that veteran leadership was there in Oakland that that also was going to. change with the way that he acted out there in Oakland not it's not a winning program like you love Pittsburgh yeah and the way that we love Pittsburgh and you didn't hear about all this nonsense I'm sure was all gone behind the house down in my home when was a cover up of the Steelers recovered as team week seventeen when the plane for the playoffs no doubt about it but I would say this is that the Steelers were smile and and the very fact is is that they don't have to deal with the headache and then all of a sudden the headache bloomed out an open window and I heard everything that tree outside with Antonio brown and and it's all sort of go along with that you know the one thing that you always said as an NFL player that was like to joke around the NFL players go to the raiders to die that's where their career ends and obviously with him you knew that he didn't want to be a part of training camp hence the whole helmet situation the whole foot thing the footings wanting them with the helmet you weren't even practicing anyway so it's not just to disappear from practice well you're doing the standard to ride the bike or doing whatever for your feet at that time that's once again him believing that he is more important and has a different set of standards than the rest of the football team so there wasn't a player nor do I think Oakland could have ever done that now he falls into a situation where it's going to the New England Patriots and like I said it's completely different because they won without you and they can win without you so the standard that the put on it and the patriot way is do nothing outside yourself to cause controversy for this lock permit do bulletin board material we just talked about the examples that worked brand I think they're different points in their career but look how bad it was for channel chill Cinco because it showed that he was in a dynamic player he was the Purcell St precise route runner and he couldn't pick up with the language and we're Tom Brady wants you to be everybody knows that Tom Brady is a quarterback he demands you to do things to perfection and if you don't break your route off the ten yards and break it off at night you're not going to be on the football field that's the difference were Antonio brown is different the channel two signal and fits more into the mold of like Randy moss because they work that well it of players are more. technicians that nowadays is just to biting by the rules and just make sure you stay clear of all this yeah and I think he will be is I'll be ours you David if he blows up in New England we'll be all rights will be god and not just that I don't know how many teams that will be clamoring to bring a man at the kind of money that he's looking to make music Tony brown does want to sign a one year deal worth two million dollars he's looking for the kind of contract that he got in essence in a performance based contracts but he is getting ten million dollars guaranteed you want to do the re work from the Steelers the Oakland Raiders it did now we lost a lot of money yeah terms of Garin a lot on it a lot of money but he has the opportunity to make it back and if he is able to change the discourse the conversation around him and have a great year and buy into that patriot system and he minds is pleasing cues and there are no way should be as you know this he is going to be under the magnifying glass and they're gonna be people Diggin it see what's going on behind the scenes if he's able turn all that around then everything will be fine for Antonio brown then okay contract next no doubt about it but if he doesn't I don't know how many teams will be clamoring to bring and then all of the thirty two year old receiver this is his last opportunity let's face it if you go to New England and you box this for them taking the chance on you as a player and you go back to what you just did in Oakland and back to all the things that you did in Pittsburgh yeah that talent won't outweigh the cancer that you'll be in that locker room and the headache that the coaches and GM selected deal with so this is really his last opportunity with bill Belichick because I truly feel this organization of bill Belichick are the only ones that can

"Training camp for that the defense was dominating Stephon Gilmore whose elevate himself to perhaps the best cornerback in all of football is just shutting everybody down the defense is miles ahead of the offense again no Gronkowski some changes along the offense of line so this is gonna be a team that probably wins more with defense than offense and Brady's been there before right two thousand one it was more of a defensive team two thousand and three more of a defensive team I think the two thousand and four version is still the best team the patriots of ever had because we share they have really only offense Brady become a great quarterback Corey Dillon was leading the league in terms of yards per game and you still have a a lead defense that's why I think that'll fourteen is the best of the six Super Bowl winning teams but that's the case this year in the patriots have shown over the years guys that they can win in any kind of way look at the Superbowl thirteen the three over the ramps and thought that was going to happen yeah they they can win in all sorts of fashion and they're comfortable saying we'll put this the offense in the in the hands of the running backs and when we need to pick up a third down we feel confident at Tom Brady we'll pick up third down in our defense will be able to keep keep the game within reach for our for our offense said that doesn't need to have an explosive offense that every team that has these elite offenses ends up winning the Superbowl it's the more balanced seems that when the Superbowl so I I don't think the patriots have any problem with that being that calling card this year and you assume the offense will improve over the course of the year because you have a lot of new pieces that you're integrating to it so it makes sense that they'd start out slow and I expect for them the star so this season because they always do that that would tend to go like to win two in September and it was like well this is the end of the patriots dynasty and then October they ramp it up and they never lose in December and then you get into January and oftentimes into February in there pretty good shape so Tom Brady turns forty two in a few more days he spoke yesterday training camp about just a little bit of training some type of training method heading into this season.

"You probably know that the dump takes have been flying as well definitely and and I think that's my is that the most costliest poop in his possibly hard pressed to think of another I mean your mind will make you do some creating oracle but jewels and pulp fiction. I've been that was tough rate break. I mean look what you've got to go but take the gun with you. Leave the Cannoli kind of situation. Let's interesting dude. This month has been crazy for the take some look. I like to indulge myself in some takes I respect takes but it just getting to the point now we're retread and all the same stuff for argued about running backs again on the time line the whole Zeke Elliott things spurred by the Melvin Gordon thing. It's all just unbearable. You know if running backs dope matters. Stop talking about him so so much. We woke up to take this morning that said that the Patriots. Patriots won their Super Bowl. Thanks to their running backs and I could tell you as a member of sort of Patriots Phantom as somebody that covers the patriots the idea that it was the running backs is a bit of a head scratcher to me. People people based on race trauma system quarterback. I guess the system was named Corey Dillon which okay that's where we've reached on July the seventeenth of the year of our two thousand nineteen it's wild and that was all to justify it. Take about <hes> Ezekiel Elliott so when you get dug in on a take sometimes you make some absurd statements so that that's what's going on or you said the takes across nearly the entire mile of open field with no cover. That's that's exactly it so let's let's let's have some more text. Let's generate our own takes because mark before the show and meet and me and ben is already kind of discussed this on because in select show but I wanted your take on some attractive and the pods out there to see if they line up with minds..

"Benefit the doubt because he's Bill but Bill Bill been doing it far before we start recognizing it. Right. Okay. Michelle and James white. And those guys they are not Todd Gurley. They're not he did the same thing with Corey Dillon. Todd gurley. Okay. Corey Dillon was a great running a very very good running back in one time. Girlie girlie. Didn't he got one hundred yards rushing last week in the divisional round? But better it was it was C J Anderson. That was the star the I'm curious now what happened to the Super Bowl game. Like, he obviously wasn't benched for dropping the ball became the interception because he was right back out there on the next series appeared, and then he disappeared. So it wasn't a punishment. And even Sean McVeigh said after I mean, we just felt like C J Anderson was our I actually kinda credited for you. Gotta have stones to make. It'd be thirty two years old and understand that you'll you'll still find it put a respect. Now, he has respect this is the second season. And they're getting their results lose. We are sitting here. For that very point. And that's what I'm saying. He got bailed out by the official happens to all coaches, even Bella checkup buried for not playing Malcolm Butler and the Super Bowl last year that you're you're not immune to that. If you're a coach whether you're thirty to sixty s. And you as a coach you can't beat afraid to take the swings. And I just wanted to stop and get paused because he started with me only gets loved the bones right in your balls bones is the nickname for fossil. We call him baby fossil the red hair. He looks nothing like his dad, but I think at some point we need to start considering this guy's a head coach. I think that's fair his special team units have been routinely. Some of the best special teams in the NFL. He always has the fakes up. He always has everything gone. You started here with me as a member of the jets jetty was here with us bones knows this stuff. And if you want to sit here and praise hardball. You have the star realizing that you can get great coaches from every position kinda kinda wondering that yesterday. Like is this guy gotta get an opportunity took an alternate took basically a forty eight yard. What was the one that tied up forty eight a forty yarder that looked like it was going but live, right? But he knows it's faded back. But he does talk. About the fate. Beautiful ball field. But McVeigh doesn't even blink. If little baby fossils says, hey, this is open. He has the green light. He was a he interviewed for the job. When when Fisher was fired the interview for the job this guy. Forget about what he looks like. Gotcha backhanded don't remember. We look Tom solo. We remember remember what's the guy that had to dredge? We talked about before the Arizona. Yeah. Ray horn, sometimes guys have to look like a certain way, Mike Tomlin at a lose all that weight. I think right. If I'm that's what I'm saying is weird because perception is reality Matt Patricia shaved the beard for his introductory press. Conference point you'll fossil looks like he looks like a long distance care you run, but he knows his stuff and he's a pedigree, right? His dad was one of the best coaches for years NFL. I think it's time that we start considering him. One of the best coaches ever. But we can't be talking about all McVeigh's the son of so. And so he's a genius. Heads. But you could baby fossil care has been in the league. And he's been a league I put Iran. I just think it's funny that you say I don't care what he looks like just because I don't know if the three of us, I'm probably the only one who has gotten someone say to their face you're much prettier in person. I've got that fat Maggie neck by people. See you Swain hair. Crazy spit running down your face. Like, oh, you look better in person. I was never I never thought it was ugly. I thought earlier in his life or something he had some condition or something. He has flush gain. He's really really really white, and he had read he has red hair, and he's very very skinny skinny like like ball. You probably way more than baby fossils my goal weight. He's he's like six he's like six three maximum long branch. Max what's going on? What's going on? But I called you last year of an interesting question. I don't think ever really got an circle I'm asking the same question after yesterday's game. New england. I'll never forget last year against the Jags. There was a third in eighteen play late in the third and the Jags by ten I no timeouts all I cherish the NFL. Then I asked would it help a defense again about to forget about anything except for a breather? And take guys it's thirty and eighteen hold him here. We're good shape. Same thing yesterday over time. Those timeouts cannot be worth that much. Fifteen minute quarter. Dr the I'm not gonna be like, hey, ten and a quarter. Everybody's playoffs in the playoffs. Pardon me, those three timeouts we're not cherish. Bike is supposed to be third and ten and you have Brady early in the in the overtime. Is it smart? Maybe call timeout. A gather the troops that I'm asking you as an old defender. Does it help guys turnover? Here we all this guy. We win. Let's call timeout in and really get everybody like all on the same page fair point out for not fair point. Because I feel like if they would have brought the troops together. Then Bob sudden could have been able to explain to them what the situation was in. Maybe Eric berry would have backed off and saying okay, this listen, the isolates before we're going to I feel like they missed opportunity because Justin Houston wasn't a factor. Default wasn't a factor because they can't routinely routinely rushing of the Phil Brady's going to step up and deliver the ball. The only way that you get him to hold the ball. All in Paul's is one by by running lying games. So I don't understand why Houston and Ford income underneath against Brady the edges matter least in any other quarterback because he's not a threat to run the ball spicy when it's cold and Oles hamstrings all tight. TB twelve Methodist where he doesn't have have strings anymore. Pull the cap. But that's okay. So first of all max, thank you. You. Get a t shirt you brought up a good point CNBC t shirts for best calls of the day. Small medium large extra large right now. We got. Demand. Oh, okay. But here's a question for you about that. I mean that just sounds three. We're talking about Justin Houston have a good game. Ford. Didn't have a good game. I mean does this have to come back. Bob, son. I know that you're you like him you say, he's a great teacher. But to me it just didn't seem like they had a fantastic gave. Well, he made it they got caught on the ropes. And then he went to the big boys, and then was able to shut down to run right after the first quarter second half they killed the run. But you as a as a defensive coordinator, my only job is to get you into third and five thirty seven thirty and ten and if you look at all the third downs that they converted. It's pretty much the same place settlements been doing that for years Brady and adamant and gronk I would say that Brady gronk and settlement together might be the best trio. Like, I think they're up there with Montana and rice, I swear I think that they're that reliable and good don't disrespect Wes Welker and westbound. He started it, of course. No. But listen, this is what I'm talking about Cordell. Patterson dropped passes set dropped a bad pass Brady actually through a bad past the Cordell. Patterson? Tip drilled intercession score. But here's the problem. Right. Bob called the right place. Listen blitz and a lot man I pick it apart. No, no. But listen, listen. I'm a equal opportunities hater listen Bob knows. But when you look at the safety play see this what happens in in big games, right because eh domain and grunk been there. They take the swing when I saw when it came to winning time. I saw guys afraid to pull the trigger because they didn't want to be the reason that they lost. So a lot of those, you know, basically, pick plays going ready to come coming underneath the safety on the other side has to be willing to jump that route and step in front of it. Because he's on opposite side in Brady. Never see some common. You understand you understand that your linebackers all console with with James white or birthday coming out of the backfield because they can't be routinely beaten them to the Y. So if I have any criticism about sudden I had the criticism that he understands that in our defense were wrecked. And when he was a member of we had a pill rule, and I say this every week, and it's funny because I was watching the saints play, and I saw consumer pill, and almost shed a tear. Now, if I'm the inside Mike linebacker is no. No way that I can play the run and that damn swing route. With a pit coming. The only way I can defend it if my defense event, if he gets a quick flare flares with the guy that take it away. Then I replace him in the blitz. They how many times do we see the guy trying to run around the pig play, and then mess slumping and get and get a beat. So they never made that adjustment. And that's the same criticism. I have when when dick plan because it's the same route combinations. That you get all the time you have to have the planet for because if I'm if I'm responsible for now go over there are they going to do is run the counter to the opposite side, and I can't be I can't be there. You have to communicate you had to play combo coverages on that. You can't have one man on one guy. So simple Arquette's it. Tony Romo gets it. Why not get it? I don't know because players are self. They they get into it. And they lose their mind. I mean, Tony Romo Watson it. So we're calm. And collect they don't even know what's happening to him into a happens to eighteen at eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six Knicks right on schedule down twenty exactly as we like it rolling. And we will continue with the calls and give you an opportunity to get in on this on the -ficiating on it all as we continue live from the town fair tire studio powered by town fair tire. Nobody sell fair tire. Nobody. Well, it's Monday back here again. Sneaks up on me. I always wanted a weekend to catch up on my rest. But then things get in the way happened to watch the new show, the magical art of tidying up with the lady who cleans out all the, you know. That's what I'm talking about. Yeah. Five minutes later, Andrew, and I got everything in our house. Just right in the middle of the floor just holding in our hands. It doesn't bring me joy bottom line is we didn't catch up on our sleep.

"I think that what Belichick has done the surpasses. Even the greatness of Tom Brady, it's handling the egos of the quarterback of the owner of the players. Remember part of what happened to the patriots? When they went through a decade of not winning change of which historically will be seen as well. Then decade without a championship in that decade. They did go sixteen in L and they lost in Super Bowl. So it's like did they go a decade? Yeah. But they actually probably had their best team during that day. It shouldn't diminish Tom Brady. Tom Brady's first. Superbowl was not because of Tom Brady. They went from a team built as a team with a great defense and with just enough skill place. Then they added Korey. Remember, they had Corey Dillon who they they would make a they would always make an acquisition of a guy that somebody else didn't want or somebody else who who had Ed junior say Al lateness career. They had Corey Dillon when he couldn't get along in Cincinnati. They had Randy moss who had worn out his welcome. And didn't want to be in Oakland before. Can you say there have been better, offencive coaches? Sure had there been better defenses. Sure. Have there been better quarterback? I would actually make the case. Sure. There have been teams that are built more for certain seasons. But finding a way to be flexible enough to change styles, but rigid enough to establish a culture and a way of doing things is incredibly. So. Yeah, Brady's awesome. And Brady has. Great leadership. But part of leadership is how Brady's boss allowed him to be a leader that actually is on to get the rest of what Doug said. Searching the Doug godly show. And as.

"Now, I'm trying to think if there's ever been the jets with Rex Ryan were far more taking misfit toys and try to make it. The patriots have done that Corey Dillon. Albert Hanes worth over. Randy moss. Got Josh Gordon. Sure they've done that before the story about them being cast-offs and being pieced together as pieces is their first Super Bowl back when they signed a bunch of mid level free agents and turned into a great a great team that won three out of four Sony. Michelle was a really good draft pick for them. It wasn't a misfit toy. You know, look at I'm trying to think of of Stefan Gilmore just popped into my head. Now is not a misfit toward that you turned into a Pro Bowl cornerback was good here. So I mean, you can. Yeah. I don't I don't know one who who has talked about the patriots and covered this league for your says ever done an article, I think suggesting that they are the outpost for, you know, this is what was the what was the home for wayward children. They made a movie about it the father. What was his name? I know you're looking at me like, I'm nuts. Not father Baker. This the local guy father, whatever there was a home for wayward children in the midwest. They made a movie about at eight thousand years ago. That's not the patriots. Okay. The patriots are not the home for displaced football players. Nobody else wants a piece of and Bill Belichick comes in and uses his magic, touch and turns them into great people and great football players, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But I will tell you this again, I think it's a fair discussion to have there are there were signs from the patriots this season. I think Sunday's game. I know I said this Sunday's game the game against the charges would be fascinating..

"Retirement today decker let's see. Here looks like he played from two thousand. And ten to two thousand. Seventeen Four hundred four hundred thirty nine receptions over his career let's. See how many fifty three touchdowns a, solid that's a solid NFL football career but it was interesting to, watch, Cordell and goes to where everybody goes to die in their careers and it. Seems like the New England Patriots some with more, success than others you know Randy Randy moss goes and squeezes out a couple more years, Corey Dillon goes in squeezes out a couple, more years there Chad Johnson. Goes there. To try to to catch. On Eric decker goes didn't make it. It's funny that story mirrors my own NFL football career my own NFL football. Career was ten years played for five different teams but I did. Want to be done after ten I wanted to. Play eleven and I went to training camp with the, New England Patriots. Because that's what they do they take somebody who's over the hill somebody that is. A cast off from another team and they. Say hey we'll see if we can squeeze one more because they're always on the edge Of winning the Super Bowl so if they can find one guy to do one. Task specifically well they'll keep you there, and and I have my Cup of. Coffee I, was there for four days I was terrible I was there. Holding a spot for gronkowski while he was coming off of. His latest injury the extent of my time and with the New England, Patriots I was. Running around ran the wrong route and was standing next. To Julian Edelman in the wrong spot and I knew if I were, standing next to Julian Edelman in a route combination. I was wrong so Tom, Brady wait wait wait wait time how long did it catch you how long did it. Take to get to the spot Julian, Edelman is well because some tells me he beat you to the, spot, of that route yeah you're right you're right he had been waiting there awhile Positive talking yourself on lined up in the slot which again the blocking. Tight end why am I lined up in the slot I'm running groups route and I'm positive talking. Myself like you, know, what, I'm, gonna make. This roster I'm going to run? This route or go to catch this past to make? This team I'm gonna, win the Super Bowl and then I looked over and I'm standing next. To, join adamant. And Brian. And Tom Brady looks at me Brian I was like hi I'm Ben but nice Please please please. Tell. Me you did, not, you do, not correct Correct I didn't correct. Him he hears zero. Chance he remembers my four days in New. England I did hold the door for him in one. Day so that was another interesting, interaction but Eric decker retired. Here that's it brings an interesting question that I got about the end of a. Career very. Rarely I talked about franchise quarterbacks earlier that didn't get to in their careers where they wanted to Steve Young didn't get to do it Brett farve Peyton, Manning all of these, examples Tony. Romo these guys didn't as good as they were the faces of their franchise for an. Era they still don't get the in their careers the way that they wanted to and Eric. Decker it didn't look like he was gonna make that roster in New, England And I, live that and I get a lot of questions from guys that maybe aren't on rosters when do you give it up how, long, do you chase the NFL dream, right and I always tell guys you have to chase, it, as long as you can. So that when you're sixty you look back and say I did everything I could to make an NFL career you know. There there's no right. Or wrong answer to this you look at. A guy like oh gosh played at Louisville backed up. Matt Redman there it is Matt, Redmond was their quarterback with. The Atlanta Falcons before Matt Ryan was drafted and he was a guy that was. Selling insurance. For a year on the street after he played a couple of years with the Baltimore Ravens got out of the league sellin insurance and then got a, second chance and then, had a. Second of a two point oh of his career of maybe six seven years made millions. Of dollars backing up Matt Ryan Jeff Saturday ESPN analyst on NFL live was out of football. For a year during the early part of his career and then got That second chance and so you chase it as. Long as you, can without wrecking your future because a lot. Of times guys in this situation, there, guys, that never were on the, roster like for. Free agent. That made. A roster but didn't make final cuts and it's? How long can, you chase it well I always tell those guys listen you can't mortgage your future for a long shot because the NFL's along shot the, reality is of the staff that I always tell people around a million high school football players in this country every year about, a, million players grounded off of that, one million players only not percent not point two percent, only, point zero two percent of. Those million high school football players ever get drafted into the NFL that's that is, long odds that's Sports I, always want to tell. A parents day when I coach I coach my, son's basketball team reminds you seven years. Old I just went through these parents listen dodgy kids make it into the professional ranks no matter, what sport is are pretty slim but so how did you, know, it was time to call. It quits or or did you not have a choice I. Mean how did you injure career yeah so I played in two thousand thirteen. Was my last season with the Carolina Panthers two thousand fourteen I wanted to play the Carolina Panthers offered me a terrible contract that was again team friendly and I was like listen I could get that anytime? Anywhere, and what was it was, a, minimum split deal where meaning if you get hurt they only pay you half, no guarantees nothing along those lines and that I could have gotten that other places but I wouldn't have made their roster so, I went to New, England for those four days knowing I wasn't going to, make that. Roster but to show the, other NFL teams in a preseason game hey heart sock is still healthy he's still. In shape and he still. Wants To play the. Game the, problem is I was there for four days of practice and. They cut me the day before the preseason. Game and so, that then was it for me and I stayed I drew. A line in the sand that. I said I'm going to stay ready I'm gonna, train this entire twenty fourteen season as if, I'm a football player I tell people it's hard to explain this I didn't play football in two thousand fourteen but? I was, still a football player if? That. Makes sense I went through all the things every day I went to my sports performance facility and. Did an entire day's worth of practice drills running routes lifting weights speed and agility, film study, all of those kind, of, things but I wasn't on a. Roster and I I was with New England during training camp, and I had a, workout midseason with the Minnesota Vikings thought, I was going to. Make the roster but a guy that was going, they thought was hurt worse than he. Was ended up not being hurt so that he didn't sign anybody and that was it so that, was it and the reality of NFL is most people in, those, situations you know your career. Is starting to die is when you start Those guys that go a week here and a week there I'm I'm with the raiders for two, weeks and then I'm on the, street for a week and then I'm with the chiefs for three weeks and then I'm on the street for two weeks that. Is kinda usually the. Death rattle sign that your career is kinda wrapping up how. Much how, much did it bother you when your phone wasn't raining When you were training training trying to get into shape at year ten you see the NFL for what. It. Is and you recognize that it's over and I was, ready and I'm glad and I'm thankful I think the good. Lord kept me safe I maybe would have hurt myself so I'm grateful for that and I'm, grateful for my time no regrets incredible tenure NFL career listen coming up straight ahead we're going to get into whether or not we. Think the NFL is making it.
