And so unless you have an Andre SLS, and this is where it's really easy right now to say that teams aren't going to invest in goaltending like they used to outside of an Andre vasilevsky because the next generation don't forget we lost a lot of generational gold Danish in the last three years. Think of the long goes and the lundquist and the retirements that we've seen. It's a deep list and I think the tear below them gets missed. Corey Crawford, I remember Corey Schneider reaching out to me at one point this year when all the focus was on the decline in save percentage and he sent me a list of all these guys that had left the league and and he wasn't wrong. That was a part of it. And the experience they took with them. So as this list shortens, I mean, it's really easy to just decide you're going to invest in less and have sort of two decent options, then go all in on one option because the list of guys that satisfy that requirement is shorter than it's ever been like, what, 60? Like 70, I'm trying to think of the names that I'd put on that list. I would have had Thatcher demko there, but then the injuries, now there's question marks because of the injuries.

I think the bradley beal thing is very much hanging over the season. We haven't heard much from him on that. Not kind of the story of washington season is bradley. Beal ultimately gonna stay with his team or elsewhere. And you know. I know that like the dunked on boys talked a lot about how going from committee are going from rusty dinwiddie getting all these debts pieces of big upgrade folks. I don't know if we watch the same team here. But russell westbrook did a hunt for this wizards team last to drag them into the playoffs. And i don't think that dinwiddie coming on. Acl tear is lock to replicate that allieu. I think mantras herrell is a fun but very one. Dimensional can't do much more than his specific role. I don't like kyle experience at all. Unless he's got a lebron level guy to get him exactly where he needs to go. I really don't like this was his offseason. And i happen to be one of the worst that he's i i'm with gye. But i do think that got better overall in terms of roster balance and also further for the future prospects. So i'm excited to actually see them play. I know how special it is to win the Stanley Cup because I've heard it from hundreds of them. I know what it means to them to get their name on that cup. Trust me. I know this. I love it. There is not a more difficult trophy to win in all of sports. I've been saying that for as long as I've been saying anything on this show getting through the NHL playoffs is an epic accomplishment. That trophy represents that the history that's on that, And that cop is an inspiring. I love the Stanley Cup, so if it gets dinged, that's not a reason to go. And if you think it's a reason to go, that's on you. So if you're hopping on Twitter said that Montreal she keep the cop Or that the lightning should not be allowed to continue to celebrate with the cup. Just delete your account. Delete your Twitter feed. If you're going to tweet that if you're doing that you're not much different or much better than that woman who is the daughter of the guy who designed the Lombardi claiming that she lost sleep. Over Brady throwing the trophy in claiming that Tom Brady owed an apology to the entire silver Smith and community or whatever nonsense that she was vomiting out. It's unfortunate it happens. Came back in and played in the same game. So I ask you boys shot or no shot. The trade of one of the Hawks all time greats deserved a lot more fanfare, an uproar than it received. Ah, that is a shot. But here we are in Chicago, right? He's not a bear, not a cub. Is that a bowl? And there is hockey in Chicago, right? This is in Boston. We would. That's a three hour show. Right, And this is uncertain. In Canada. This is a two or three hour show about his career. What he meant to the I mean, think about the championships. It's all with the Blackhawks. The dynasty is started in it there. There's no there's no run for the Cubs or Sox. Right now. There are people who believe he was the single most important player on the three Cup teams. I'm talking astute. Hockey analysts have I read it yesterday that love Patrick Kane. He's going to go down as the greatest American born player of all time. He's going to the Hall of Fame. I was just like if it was any other player of that importance on any other team. It probably would get a whole show dedicated. And we today would probably be doing way more on Duncan Keith do we did whole shows on Mitch Travis Key? Well, that's the Bears quarterback AB. That's apples and oranges. That's number one. No question number one position, But Duncan Keith goes down. Is he a top 30? Chicago athlete of all time? Always got to be higher than that is in the top 15. Of all time Hawks know Chicago athlete. Kevin Powell in our sports department is with me. But, Kevin, I know you are an avid golfer. Um So did you watch the American century championship yesterday? I watched a little bit of it. Yes. Where you locked into it? Yes. I don't even know why, but because I was seeing some familiar faces. You know, a lot of the Bears were playing. I mean, Brian Urlacher, Robbie Gold. Matt Nagy, Kyle Fuller, Jim McMahon, Doug Flutie. I didn't see any of them. All I saw was Vinny del Negro. That was because he was the leader. I didn't know if Vinny Del Negro was such a great golfer. I know John Smaltz has been around Tony Romo. Those are guys names you see, and kind of here around the golf circuit as well. Steph Curry was out there. Mike McDonnell, longtime hockey player, Um Yeah, it's always It's a star studded event. For sure. I mean, there are a lot of, uh, celebrity outings. This one actually draws a huge celebrity crowd. Justin Timberlake was out there. Roger Clemens, Jerry Rice. So all the big sports names were together points in golf and out of all the Chicago names. I mean, Vinny Del Negro. Want it but out of the Bears, I guess Robbie Gold shot the best round. So what did you shoot this weekend? I'm sure you got in around. I did get it around Saturday. Would you finished just in time, with little bit of rain falling out in the suburbs, But we did get a full 18. It was supposed to play yesterday morning, but That was a washout. So at least got one round in. So I was happy with that. Okay, Let's talk about Dunkin Keith. You know, I get very attached to people, especially if it's somebody that plays for the Hawks or the bowls or the or the Bears. And and then I. I feel really sad when when they're traded off or they're gone, or they choose to leave. Yeah. So the reports are that Duncan Keith is headed to the Edmondson Oilers for defenseman Caleb Jones and a third round pick, also a major part of the deal. It is being reported that the Walkin Consume, can will take on all of Duncan Keith salary, so that does give them some much needed salary cap flexibility heading into this off season. It's not an official deal yet. We haven't got anything from the Hawks, but It seems like it's just about a done deal. Duncan Keith to the Edmonton Oilers, But yet to your point, I mean, you think about that core of Tase Kane, who still remain with Corey Crawford. No longer with the team. Brent Seabrook stepping away from hockey now, Duncan Keith Marion Hossa, so really, just have that core of the three Stanley Cups. Just the to remain in cane and tapes, But, yeah, I don't think we can overstate how great of a player Duncan Keith was He still, I think plays at a good level high level. Certainly not dead his elite level when he was winning Norris Trophies. Um when you know you look back at some of those years during those that Stanley Cup run what Duncan keep meant to that team, but just a complete hockey player. He's a complete shutdown Defenseman. Everything you would want in a defenseman, one of the best Blackhawks players ever. But you know, it's great. He's one of those guys. Much like Greg Olsen was for the Bears or Robbie Gold, who have foundations based in Chicago that raise a lot of money. And for him, you know, I always loved is is Keith relief at Joe's Bar, and I think it's raised like Recorders of a million dollars for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicago land and I'm sure he'll take that to the next town that he's in. But I think that builds a fan base that goes beyond sports where people are very thankful for what some of these athletes do in our community to Benefit our community and all of us who live in it for sure. And you know when you have that platform here and how crazy sports obsessed we are in Chicago, and, you know, they think once they understand you see, like the work when Anthony Rizzo does and things like that A lot of these guys do and I'll contribute. So when you do have that platform and you do have an audience and a fan base that's going to be on board with pretty much anything you're doing. As well take advantage of it. So yeah, for sure, Duncan Keith, But, you know, we knew at some point this this incredible run the Blackhawks, head from the core would slowly come to an end Duncan Keith's 37 years old, It's the direction that I think a lot of us are have kind of seen with the Blackhawks. And when Stan Bowman is doing with the roster turnover, they were going to have to go this route eventually, but Getting younger was key. Obviously so, so moving on from Duncan Keith. Um not not a major surprise, considering the direction of the team, But yeah, I mean, Just an absolute legend here in Chicago Sports. And with the Blackhawks. Yes. Watch this because Somebody turned me onto it, and it is literally it's like it's like one room with lots of obstacles, and the whole point of the sport is to tag the other guy, and it is the most intense, crazy thing you have ever seen. And these athletes are so agile. It's just it's inexplicable. You need to check it out. It's a step up from your basic playground tag. When we were growing up. It is called professional tag for a reason. You can't even believe you care to believe in it. There's actually skill and there's a method to winning. And yes, of course, it was one of my nephews that said, You have to watch this and I'm like, is that even a thing and it is and it's Pretty much something everybody needs to. You know what I think? I've seen highlights of this where it's almost like, not an obstacle course. But as you said, it's kind of just there's things that they have to jump over and run down and run around. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it almost looks like a skateboard park or something, You know, But the competition is on. "I think the brink it has talked about it as well. Hasn't it like you deserves some credit for for what? We're watching this team do right now, Doesn't he? No question. No question. First of all, Think back 23 seasons ago when he took over in November for Joel Quenneville. Hey, had had one year in Rockford under his belt, had some success with them. He gets thrown into the fire with a team that had basically had one coach for 10 years and a system. That was specific to Joel and they had their routine. Everybody understood it. Here comes a guy who was younger than Duncan Keith younger than Brent Seabrook as the head coach, So I think there's probably its trust. Issue there off the top, just hearing a different voice. Then you throw in last year shortened by the pandemic. I think it was really important. For that team to go toe Edmondson last year in the bubble and to see them rewarded for the style of play that Jeremy wants this team to Diogo. And it was that Series win over admitting that screwed up their their their draft order, so to speak, But I think not only show the players that his system Is something that can work and be rewarded in this league. But I think it gave Collison some confidence as well as a young coach, that the road he was heading down. Eyes. The correct one and then this season could not have started any worse guys. It looked like a death march for games in. They've given up 20 goals and not won a game. And they've turned it around to be this surprisingly fun team to watch. So yes, he does deserve credit for this because I think those you know eight rookies that were and and second your players that were in the lineup last night. They're probably more inclined to accept what the marching orders are from a coach. But now there's on Lee, a few veterans that are around and both Keith and Cane I can tell you are buying in. Totally. They are. They are accepting their mentor ship role for some of these other guys. They're thinking back 14 years ago, Patrick King when he broke into the league and who helped him along. Duncan's going back 16 17 years thinking about when he entered the league and who brought him off and he's now paying it back. And so it's been a total by in, it's been surprising. And I do think the coach Jeremy Collison while he's never gonna win a press conference, just not his style. Hey, deserves credit for the way this team is playing, Pat. What is the bottom line here? Are they not bad or or the Blackhawks? Actually good. I think they're they're closer to, uh, between not bad and good. I mean, think their up and coming. I don't think we need to start planning the parade route. Or get ourselves ready for for the Tom Brady Tampa tour. I think this is a young team that has has decided to give these guys an opportunity. Two. Figure out whether or not they're building blocks for a championship team and again, I still hold out hope. I think Jonathan Tae's is going to be back at some point this year. I don't think Kirby Doc will come back. I think that's a would be too much of a risk, especially with an a risk injury to a center Menand and the importance of taking draws. I think there's a really good chance that the captain comes back. And could you imagine the team that is humming the way it's been humming with points and 10 of their last 11 games? You know the third ranked power play the 10th rate penalty kill, surprisingly, getting good goaltending all of a sudden gets one of the best leaders in the game. That would be the trade deadline acquisition of all trade deadline acquisitions. And that would make this team even stronger. So still holding out hope that that could happen. I'm I'm not expecting them to make the playoffs, but I think they're gonna make it an interesting run to try and get into that Top four at this point, isn't it? They exceeded our expectations. Which were very, very low, but that does I'm not taking anything away from them because they've been really fun to watch. But it's a small sample size and just the best way that you could describe it to yourself is is just keep your expectation levels. Had a reasonable spot, right? PB? Yeah, but I mean that, you know, we're in Chicago, so I mean, it's It's like, you know, the Bears went 12 games one year and we expect them to make the next step in the following year and And that's where we you know, were 14 games in and you're having me on the show. I probably not on the show today if they had two wins, and they were in last place in the central, so Yes, we should be. Absolutely encouraged with what we saw. We've seen so far. They have exceeded expectations. But this is just the beginning. This is just, you know, a foundation, so to speak. You're trying to figure out if all of this is sustainable. I mean, I said this on the hockey show last week on ESPN 1000 Saturday morning, lieutenant that like I was in the camp that I wanted to see. Corey Crawford back for like a one year deal. I thought that made sense. I thought it was too risky with the defensive performance that I saw from this team the last couple years, giving up so many high danger chances on every given night. Turn it over to three unproven netminders. Had they gone that route and brought Cory back or say any veteran were 14 games in That veteran would have started minimum 8 to 9 games, the other three would have had to split up the other 45 games. There's a chance Kevin LinkedIn may have one game under his belt or no games under his belt because he was the third option this year. Imagine if they would have gone the conservative route off, bringing in an established veteran netminder and try to find a replacement among the group. We may have no idea that we've got a gem underneath our finger here and Kevin liking it. So it's an example of When you make the decision to go all in. Yeah, you open yourself up to, uh, speculation and things could go south. But something like this could happen. That would not have if you've gone the traditional round. That's why we go with Tyler Bray next year. We need to find AARP use at quarterback. I think the thing get Ryan pace over to Europe. Maybe maybe maybe the bears of Mrs all along there, that's good, while We'll send him to Europe and leave him there. That's probably good bastard. Yeah, great stuff. P b. you know I thought we left a little on the table just with being clean in transition like we have them and volatile situations couple times just didn't quite make the play but overall pretty please
