Silverado Fire: Two Firefighters Seriously Hurt, 7,000+ Acres Burned, Zero Containment, Los Angeles
"Well of course, story today is been the wind and eventually what came with the wind event some fires. The biggest of which is over four thousand acres burned in. Orange. County. They call it these Silverado fire it's in eastern Orange County and the area affected the most or some neighborhoods. In Irvine. They have had difficulty because of the winds using air support to help contain this fire. Burning out near Yorba Linda. But the tough news we got a couple of hours ago with regards to the Orange County fire near Irvine is at a COUPLA, firefighters were severely burned covering this for Kfi news is Corbin Carson with the latest on what's going on in Orange County forbidden from the looks on television the wind is still blowing very strongly. Yeah it picks up an in. It drops off I'm still over here at the O C Global Medical Center where those firefighters were were were abroad. But yes, as you mentioned all throughout the day, we have seen these really strong winds is knocking stuff all over the streets kicking down a flagpoles and you know campaign signs you name it it's just it's mates from for some really tough conditions in and as we've just heard that the Fire that started in Santiago Canyon. This morning is now to seventy, two hundred acres, and then the fire that I'm about to be headed to. Now that over near your Yorba Linda has grown to over a thousand acres. We're hearing that there's a possibly one structure burned. So I'm going to check that out right now, and we just recently also heard all the new evacuations for the area we got that update from division chief Shane sure would. Mandatory evacuation orders here in the city of Irvine, their impacting approximately ninety thousand, eight hundred residents. So all residents north of Irvine Boulevard from Jamboree to Bake Parkway. As well as from Irvine, boulevard south to Bianca, road from Jeffrey Road East to patrol high high school all under mandatory evacuations. Also the communities in the city of lake forest, Baker ranch and Foothill ranch are also under mandatory evacuations. So as you just heard ninety thousand people more than ninety, nine, thousand people affected by these new orders. So a lot of people being asked to move those people around those areas that are not specifically affected they are being told stay ready in case. The wind shifts or they are told some at some point to move and that people can check with their local areas too as to where to get the latest updates and make sure that they're ready to go if needed. But earlier as you also mentioned, we had a couple of firefighters this afternoon that were out there they were they were on the hand crews and one was twenty, six years old one was thirty one years old the the the hankers part of their. Clearing the line and making sure they're trying to get some kind of containment on these fires as they're moving as fast as they can, and unfortunately we heard from OC fire authority Brian Fantasy that two of them were severely burned. This afternoon here is him making bringing this tough news to US earlier one of the hardest things? Any fire chief can do is is to report. Out on one. One of the firefighter family members have been injured or. Or worse. This is. A tough for me. Tougher all my firefighters. And certainly for the families of my two injured firefighters. One of them, a twenty, six year old and one of them at thirty one year old. One has sixty five percent burns both second and third degree. The second has fifty percent. Both second and third degree burns, and so what we're hearing is currently the families are here with them at the OC global, medical center that both have been intimated and aren't able to speak and they are in critical condition. But again, as you guys in, we were talking about a couple of hours ago just these winds that have been going through this area. I. Was Talking to a meteorologist about what to expect earlier on this and he told me that Sandiego. Canyon is his right in this wind corridor of OC. In that, you know this morning he had seen and we've already heard gust close to one hundred miles per hour in different areas. He says, these wins did a complete one eighty from onshore to offshore all part of this massive system bringing snow from Canada to Mexico this week. So we're really expecting these winds where everyone's keeping an eye out and being ready to go of necessary. The

"And Corbin Carson kafei's o'gorman Carson had been joining me in the previous segment and I wanted him to stay around for this segment Corbin you have been covering these protests which have been going on in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas for quite some time over the past I don't know fourteen fifteen days at this point what are some of the takeaways that you dot from just your coverage or some of the things which surprised you beyond what you told us on Sunday you know there's there's been it one of the things that is some of this I did mention on Sunday but it's a good way to kind of open this up as one of the things I like about being a journalist and being a reporter is that you're you're on the front scenes of history a lot of times in a lot of things that's going on in and you get you get the the honor of bringing that as it happens to two others you you become like the conduit to bring that all to them and and being marching in several miles of her visa across Orange County it has it has really brought it home I mean you're hearing the message both from from people who have been living this in the black community all their lives as they talk about you know this is something that's not new this is something that's been going on for generations and and you know they're they're bringing up other names that are not as popular as as say a George Floyd but they're bringing up you know Sandra bland they're bringing up Trayvon Martin they're bringing up the comic Donald they're bringing up all the way back to Emmett till in in in their in their dinner talking about Hey this is just another in a long line of of protests but at the same time those same people are talking about how different it is to see so many different races ages and you know even religions involved and joining in the solidarity of what we've seen across the country and it's really it's really it's really something to hear each of these people explain their reasoning for doing this I did one of the features I did was asking each person kind of why are you out here but also what was your reaction to the the to the George for tape and and also what was you know your first interaction with police and and everyone kind of has a little bit different answer but I'm you know back to the age race and you know that sort of thing and that is also interesting is how different and diverse this this movement I guess you can call it is and and and how many things are different are are changing as a result of it did these competing I'll say factions are ideologies ever meet in other words if you went on to note Newport beach for the protest in regard to George Floyd was there any type of meeting with those who are protesting or upset about the mass or whatever did those facets of society ever meet yeah he I mean of course you know one of the top are you talking about like was there some angst during yeah yes you know two things here let me start by saying I thought it would be a lot more and and I really did believe it you know and this is just from covering all kinds of protests as long as I've been doing this from here and also back in Arizona when I you know I'm from Phoenix and and covering protests back there I really thought we would see a larger push back and so that you know it wasn't and you know and when I mean push back I mean whole groups of people standing across the street in in here in and what I what Elise what I witnessed was just you know the here and there protester that was anti what was going on in it but but you know on one of the occasions I was talking with a guy from Selma who who I found out he was from Selma Alabama just on a whim and he was telling me about civil rights and how is different then versus now when a car came you know kind of room is speeding through the crowd in in there was this moment of tension that kind of played out and water bottles are being thrown in people worry Hey what's going on in some some girls bite got bent up and she said she got hit and was all scratched up and you know this guy ends up getting arrested and also a newborn Newport beach another guy was arrested for pulling out a gun out of his backpack at a end during an argument so yeah there was this kind of confrontation every once in a while but overall you're hearing this especially once the once we got past the weekend of looting if you would call it overall you're hearing this this message of of of a peaceful demonstrations but a message of something has to change did you come away feeling that this was going to continue in this moment of at least as far as the protests are concerned none of the officers have expired officers have been arrested I'm quite sure there's a sigh of relief or at least a relaxation of tensions yes we're not seeing the looting but we're still seeing the protesting as far as the mood how would you characterize it now you know I I again I was a bit surprised at at the continuation of it you know the as the the looting in the mood and all changed over the last week and then into the weekend we saw some of the biggest protest ever I mean fifty thousand people in Hollywood you know and.

"Just talking to Corbin Carson in Newport beach where the breaking story there any protests is that the person driving a mini Cooper I just saw the video like a white with black stripes Kareem is the word the using on fox eleven careen through the crowd wasn't speeding through but did bump into people I guess he Benson bicycle wheels and brush some people in I watched the video with the reporter John did you see that did you hear the audio no I didn't hear the audio I only could see was a probably a record number of I've ever seen on a video of oh my god but it was by the of reporters she just kept yelling oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god I'm not kidding it was sixty yeah it did it looked real car was driving away the camera shot was from behind the car so you didn't know who the car was heading or how many people it was hitting it just side careening down the road and you saw the crowds around on both sides and they're saying with all of the people whip out their cellphones so get that guy's plate then they'll get that person if it's yeah he'll be let out tomorrow now back to the statistics yes this is the other McDonald myth of systemic police racism in the Wall Street journal yeah this is really important because so much of everything is a motion driven these days and when you look at the numbers it tells a different story in twenty nineteen police officers fatally shot a five thousand and four people most of whom were armed or otherwise dangerous African Americans were about a quarter of those killed by cops last year a ratio that's remained stable since twenty fifteen the share of black victims is less than what the black crime rate would predict police shootings are a function of how often officers encounter armed and violent suspects in twenty eighteen African Americans made up fifty three percent of known homicide offenders in the U. S. and commit about sixty percent of robberies though they're thirteen percent of the population yeah they're only a quarter of those killed by the cops those are the statistics that heather McDonald prints in the Wall Street journal that's what she did in her research and again I think we covered the same ground five years ago we were talking about the same situation with the protest over the death of Michael brown in Ferguson Missouri but matter how you look at it that is unfortunately the case that there is a disproportionate amount of crime being committed now of course the reformers and activists will say well that's because we have racism we have a bad situation in many communities that we have to change do I don't know attitude money I don't know so they end up in a situation where the criminals in twenty eighteen there were seven thousand four hundred and seven black homicide victims those nine unarmed black victims of police shootings last year represent zero one point one percent of all African Americans killed in twenty nineteen southern nine unarmed black victims of police shootings at a seven hundred seven thousand four hundred and seven aside victims so ninety nine point nine percent of blacks who are shot to death or killed by someone other than the police when she writes by contrast the police officers eighteen and a half times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black males to be killed by a police officer that's what she writes eight and she talked then about black on black violence which has been covered before and I think another perspective here I don't know if you read John any of what Kareem Abdul Jabbar has said about the whole situation with the George Floyd American realism and this one line that stands out to me what a piece in the el Segundo times which is have been well read they keep posted on the website and one line in there just sticks out for me and I just want to stick it into the story and he said you know to get a better perspective of this maybe we should reverse the body cams and black people should wear the body cam so you can see what they encounter every day meeting in the statistics of heather McDonald presented it's not just about confrontations and black men being killed by police officers it's just about it's the daily harassment exactly wrasse been the discrimination the belief that they are a criminal that they're a suspect that they're up to no good and unfortunately some of that's driven by the crime statistics we just talked about but some of that's driven by cops like Kidd Derek Shelton that's that's the truth it was we said earlier in the show if you can't get these guys off the police force these other three cops I mean I keep coming back to split those other three cops two of them had their knees on Floyd's back in the third and the fourth one is to stand there watching well they may not have killed George Floyd directly there just as responsible and that's the problem the bad cops don't get turned over and ratted out I mean that code of silence thing in that we talk about the police union protections this is something they really have to wash and wash out thoroughly one more thing the twenty fifteen justice department analysis of the Philadelphia police department found that white police officers were less likely than black or Hispanic officers to shoot unarmed black suspects research by Harvard economist Roland G. fryer junior also found no evidence of racial discrimination in the shootings but these are you know statistical truths that have been researched over and over again and you don't hear them as part of the public discussion on television let's say you don't hear it discussed among the protesters are the politicians or the just the perspective here at least mine is that this claim that you're really worried that your African American son could be killed by police officer I think is out of proportion however your claim that they meet up with a lot of harassment and stress and they're always a suspect is probably very true all right we got more coming up Johnny can't.

Emoluments case alleging Trump violated Constitution can proceed: U.S. judge
"Seeing, coastal, temperatures, hit the eighties. With no real relief from the heat, just yet the valleys inland locations will remain in the triple, digits through, at least the next week. This is China Mendiola with NBC four today in LA. Right now it's seventy six in brea sixty seven in Laguna beach seventy seven seventy seventy-five in. Downing we lead local from the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. I'm Jennifer Jones Lee Handle here Thursday morning the twenty six Big. Stories that we're covering today, the idol wildfire KFI reporter Corbin Carson is there it'll be reporting throughout the. Day and it's not good, news, that's for sure. Horse December the fire up Yosemite, even worse news they have down Yosemite for vacationers and that's a heartbreak because I've been there. And we had to reserve way way in advance also the president in a win looks. Like. The European Union blinked on the. Tariff issue okay Here is a. Case that has come back, and, that is arguing. That the president of the United, States is violating the constitution by making a ton of money off of his properties and that. Foreign corporation and governments are booking his hotels for example and therefore he's making a profit. Now The part of the constitution that is That's involved here is the emoluments clause, and what is a, Molin. Taking money basically just accepting gifts etcetera And it is, says It's real simple the constitution bars federal officials from taking emoluments from any king. Prints, or foreign state well what does the? Amalean, you may ask well certainly the courts in the United States have never answered that because there's never been. An emolument Malaya case As far as the federal officials certainly not the presidents ever been involved so here's, the argument obviously it's much of a political argument. People saying there's a real, constitutional issue a federal judge yesterday rejected President Trump's latest effort to stop a lawsuit that alleges that the. President is violating the constitution, by continuing, to do business with foreign governments making money out of foreign governments from foreign, governments while he, is the president clearly a violation of the constitution according to those people that are. Arguing, that and if filed a lawsuit so? This, ruling US district judge Peter messy out of Maryland will allow the plaintiffs who are suing plaintiffs being the Who. Are the plane liberty this really quick DC attorney general Carl Racine and Maryland attorney general are suing. To have the court declared that I guess he can't do that and whatever, damages are coming out of that at. This point I don't. Know and what it does it allows. The plaintiffs Maryland and the district of Columbia to proceed with, their case because Trump is violated the anti-corruption clause the immoral in Amaleans clause in the constitution in this seems to be the first time a, federal judge had interpreted those provisions and apply the. Restrictions to a sitting president, now if this ruling stands because you know it's going to be appealed instantly now we're looking very closely. At Trump's business which Trump, is not, very good at sharing his businesses he keeps up pretty close to the vest And the argument is a fifty two page opinion that the judge wrote that the constitution's ban on. A Mouly on emoluments could apply to Trump Could cover any business transaction where, foreign governments, deal with, Trump and he derives a profit gain or advantage and that's exactly what's happening you look at the hotel that Trump owns for example in Washington You've got foreign governments. Who book parties for example the government of Kuwait and that happened actually they cancelled one at another at, another hotel and went, ahead and then they booked, the hotel the Trump owns by the way one of the, lawsuits part of this is that the owner, of the other DC hotel. Is suing saying you cost me business that's, on an, individual basis So the organization and the Justice department the Trump organization the Justice department urged messy to dismiss the case because the founding fathers here's the argument had written the clause to stop. Officials from taking bribes not to stop, them from, doing business and if. This goes up to, the court supreme court we're going to find out what an emolument actually is and one of. The arguments that it's being used. Is how in God's name does Donald Trump still own his business is making a pile of money from, foreign governments is being argued and still remain president It's every other official has bailed out of businesses a lot and put, him in blind trusts blind trust means someone else runs them and there's, a firewall and doesn't tell the president. Or the official what's going on with his money and, the official doesn't get back into it until his tenure. In office is over and then some people even bail out of all of their holdings to make sure that there is no conflict for example remember Rex Tillerson secretary of state for a couple of months He was a CEO of Exxon and obviously owned a ton. Of stock, he sold all of his stock he has no more money In. Anything that deals with the, government an Exxon, had a ton of different contracts with the government and President Trump simply won't do that he still maintains his businesses and he says I'm, not dealing with, the day to day operations entering know what that. Means because when Jared Kushner? And Don Jr. who? Were, now quote? Running the businesses? They don't, go to Donald Trump and got here what. Do you think dad what do you think father-in-law which way do I. Go I mean Donald Trump's pretty. Good about staying in control So? It's, not putting? The money away? In a, blind trust it's not selling off assets although The argument in Donald Trump's, favor. Is if he has to sell off his interest in his hotels and the golf courses etc and the buyers know that he has to sell them doesn't that, by definition or practically reduced the price, and effectively the government is forcing. Him to lose money. And there's nothing. In the, constitution says you, have to lose money either it's gonna be fun it really is all, right coming up next I'm gonna have a lot of fun today, is a very. Important holiday and we're, gonna, talk about Catholic contraception also known as. Vatican roulette. And we, are I, love, this. One religion contraception babies doesn't get, better than that does it.
