That just the that doesn't entrench may be relegated by the narrowest of margins infractions eight. I'm not sure that they've come to the right conclusion there. May Be needed a bit more creative thinking at least to extend the playoffs made them bigger only a couple of teams being relegated I think that would have. The OFA those options would, but what we left with is just an incredible amount of football to get often kits of as like a World Cup. If you drink primarily terms that is like a World Cup amount of fixtures, and so a time schedule, but we also go championship and the spine and Italy's lack of a World Cup a European championship, and so of. Look forward to an account way to get stuck into all start. It's been great with the Bundesliga, but I'm a big finally league in particular so count dot all to to kick off and get going. In terms of the decisions that were made. As. An odds compiler the way that the leagues were settled. No one's going to be happy with how they were set. You're never going to please everyone. But I still think that was bit harsh. In particular Peter Empire for a hard on talksport morning and you know he's very very walk like you said any medical argument, and also odds completed away. We priced it up into office. We had a seventy five percent chance left, which finished in the top six and a thirty percent chance going off. That's okay like teams knocking promote Ra, it's disappointing for Alexa Trauma I. Think it's absolutely devastating. It is what it is now at this stage. We might see that in the Premier League when it kicks off and next week as well it maybe with a with Lollygag as well you know away. Team seems to be really doing well, because maybe the home teams of lost that home advantage that is traditional, because there's no crowd south. That's you know maybe an avenue to to look out full punches and I do also think that we need to to to research teams of of maybe. Images I Missed
"How is everyone today? So I have my cup of coffee in front of me and we can start having good podcasts together. I don't know about your part of the world but here in Vancouver it's getting warmer with each day and although I'm enjoying this beautiful beautiful winter scenery. I could use some warmer days. Okay so let me tell you a story. I remember when we were driving through Yosemite National Park many years ago it was doing one particularly bad wildfire season. Most roads were closed and we had to take a detour in order to get to our destination which was on the other side of the park. At one point we were driving through the forest with dense. Smog all around us. It was absolutely insane and despite having all the windows in our car closed we could still feel the smoke getting inside the car as we were passing through a small forest throat we not just a movement among threes suddenly seven or if I remember correctly about ten fire fighters emerge from the forest. Imagine this all in the colourful uniforms. The faces all block from smog and dirt. You could see these tire but powerful faces almost up-close. It was a truly amazing moment. But that's not all at the top of it. There was this strange Polka of light. That was hitting DAB directly as much as it was distressing seeing such a beautiful place burning and these men sacrificing themselves to save it. This particular scene was one of the most powerful sites I have ever seen. You know unfortunately for some reason I kept driving because I wanted to get to our destination on time and after driving a few kilometres. Adr really hit me heart. Why didn't they stop it this until today? I regret not stopping and taking this very powerful image. Let me tell you one more story. It was a few years ago when we were driving. Not far from the Monument Valley. It was a very small roads at at one point. I noticed old man walking on the side of the road as we were approaching him with or car She looked at me and I look at him. Are we always locked at one second? It was very strange and bizarre experience. We never met before owned. She's face there was his entire life story and again I kept driving. It was about a few minutes later that I just thought why all off. Why did he just stop? There will be such a powerful portrait. I could tell you so many stories like this one. I missed so many situation therefore now after numerous missed opportunities I learned my lesson now regardless of my final I always go a long ways to make sure I stop and photograph most importantly I take my time. It's not common that you can encounter. Such unique amazing conditions seeds people. But when you do make sure you pose forget about your Arthur plus about your final destination and concentrate what it wants in front of you just to be almost my best images. I have ever taken happened because I just did exactly that. I saw something amazing. I stopped and I took my time to take a great image. Well I know what you're thinking my friend. We make these amazing plants. Why would I change them for the sake of one image? I hear you my friend but photography is very strange. Medium which is so connected to our lives and life could be so unpredictable but at the same time rich in hits experiences. I truly believe that opening up to his visual gifts that the world is is offering us will not only make us a better photographer but the better human being INC LESSON LEARNT. Olaf lesson learnt so I always let me leave you with one quote from a Robert COPPA? The pictures are there and you just take them. Let me say it one more time. The pictures are there and you just take them.
FTC Amps Up Focus on COPPA and Content Creators
"But another controversy. That's also playing Allen. Youtube is one. That's going to roll into twenty twenty and beyond around and it all has to do with a law from the nineteen nineties intended to protect children and that law is a US law. It's called Children's online privacy Z.. Protection Act OR COPPOLA'S C. O. P. P. A.. It was again. I established as long in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight and in two thousand nineteen the Federal Trade Commission can also known as the FTC brought a suit against Youtube and alleged that youtube had been illegally collecting the personal information of children without their parents. Consent the kids were watching videos on Youtube. That what they were watching was being tracked by Youtube and that this was creating a digital title fingerprint. That advertisers were using to target advertising towards those children and the children being too young to consent to this meant that the whole practice under COPPA was illegal and specifically that the company was using this quote in the form of persistent identifiers that are used used to track users across the Internet into quote so in other words. This'll be the sort of thing. Where if you were watching a bunch of videos about elephants and then you happen to navigate over to say Amazon you might see a bunch of suggestions that relate in some way to elephants and the concern was that this was going to be targeting kids and there was no way for kids to give legal consent to allow that to happen and that data has value in it and children's privacy scene security also has value to them so that was the problem? Well Youtube would settle this lawsuit out of court. They paid one hundred seventy million dollars in fines which really sounds like a lot but for Youtube. It's nothing and if that's where it all ended we would just wrap up the story and beyond with it but in in addition to the fine the company had to agree to create a system that is compliant with COPPA so this would mean that any creator who is making child directed content meaning content meant to be viewed by children would be affected by this. They would have to be COPPA compliant. They would have to make. I'm sure that they were running channel. That was not gathering information about the The children watching it that they were not building in targeted advertising That they had to self identify as being a Creator who's creating child directed content. You had to actually go into your low profile and click and say whether or not you're channel was meant for kids or not but this raises questions like what exactly is child directed and it has a lot of creators nervous right now because because there are creators who do for example in boxing videos and some of them are clearly meant for kids some of them are hosted by kids and clearly meant for kids but there others where it may not be kids it may be for people who really are into collecting toys that are from their favorite. You know franchises for example. So toyin boxing would likely be in the spotlight. Creators who use video games are likewise concerned. there are people who are using video games to tell stories. There are people use. Let's plays or play throughs. But they're not necessarily meant for kids. There's also people who are working in animation and that animation may not be meant for kids but the general perception is that cartoons are for children and they're concerned that they will be interpreted as being child directed when they don't intend to be and that they'll be affected by this. There's a lot of fear that this is going to have an effect on monetization so that people might not be able to get paid for what they're making which means they'll probably start making it. I mean you gotTa make your living They may move on to a different platform than youtube. Or they may just stop entirely Every single violation of COPPA can be fined up to a maximum of forty two thousand five hundred thirty dollars. Now keep in mind some of these channels have hundreds or thousands of videos up online so if they were identified as being child directed and that their material wasn't COPPA compliant and they could get that maximum fine for every single video. That seem to be That was on their channel so the cost could be staggering. So it's possible. ospel will see entire channels. Go dark with past videos hidden away or deleted. All Ella fear that mislabeling situation could result ZOLT and massive fines. And there's still a lot of uncertainty around this issue and we're not entirely sure how it's all going to play

"Now trying to find out what could junk is. Oh right sue do we are back. Here's this week so we have kind of a lot of stories. Some of them we can get through really fast and if we don't get them all then sorry I he won't get to your story so there's mixed reports on this. I'm not sure if it was all staged or if this was a serious deal but Ellie golding she happens to be a singer and she was going to perform at the cowboys. Cowboys halftime show on Thanksgiving. She has threatened to back out of her performance NECAS. There's a photo of her that she tweeted needed fundraising or whatever for the Salvation Army. And of course many of her father's got all pissy because as Salvation Army doesn't support the LGBTQ plus community and. Yeah so she was like well. I can no longer support an organization. Zeeshan that doesn't support everyone So she was gonNA. I haven't seen anything as far as whether she is actually chilly backing out or if she is still going to perform and only reason she was doing. This is or the only reason that it's such did you bake deal. I guess is because decision. Army is co-sponsoring the Thanksgiving Day halftime show for the Dallas Cowboys. I now do wizard again because I never heard the. I'm not missing much. Apparently so no no you are not so. Of course there's started a whole well new thing And after this story came out chick fillet decided that they will. I'm no longer donate to anti. LGBTQ organizations such as the Salvation Army. So do they sell just right just from that story alone. This salvaging army has lost at least one hundred twenty thousand dollars in donations which may not seem like a whole lot considering they are huge. But it's kind of a big deal. That's how I see it anyway And then the Salvation Army did make a statement after particularly said they were no longer donating to them and they said we're saddened to learn that a corporate partner has felt it necessary to divert funding to other hunger education and homelessness organizations areas in which the Salvation Army has the largest social services provider in the world is already fully committed. The Salvation Army said in a statement And then they said we served twenty three million individuals year including those in the Lgbtq community. In fact we believe we are the largest provider of poverty of poverty relief to the LGBTQ population. So I'm like the salvation. Army helps everybody. Yeah they don't like hate on people. If if you need help they'll help you gonna why I never cared particularly as food anyway. So I mean I don't have to take too late or Popeye's here we have. KFC How many times did I eat. Popeye's when we were at NTSC. Aw Hell for that remember remember. What is funny? What is kind of interesting though? Is that Chick-fil-a is not open on Sundays. Right right. And it's the owners are Christian. Just they are. So how can they decide to their lake. Whatever we're just not going to donate to these organizations but we're GONNA donate to these others instead because they I'm sorry because if they we lived by their religion then they would not be approving of the Lgbtq community eighty not saying that that is the right thing to do but if they live? It's by the Bible. You're talking about the CHICK-FIL-A owners. Yeah Yeah Well Okay I. This is drinking this conflicted because at the same time yes we can get into a real real good. It's supposed to be a sin to do anything that they'll be. Gt community autumn. That's considered a sin but we are supposed to judge take Blah. We acknowledge okay that you're not doing that. Go to this book bright. But I'm not gonNA treat you any different so so when so what you're saying is that they're basically doing what the Bible says and taking the lesser of two evils. Yeah Yeah it is again. It's tricky because remember when the shooting in the The floor to nightclub happening at the gay club and chick chick lay went out to all of the people who are standing out there and fed them and then typically has been slowly doing this disdain where there including nail LBJ community they'll be in plsy lb GT etc.. They've been including including slowly but shortly so POPs up where the Salvation Army's like yeah. We don't like them. It's like Oh you don't like them out out now sweetie to you bill like we lost. It's now of course I'm not saying that one way or wrong. I just think this is major league like. I don't think that you should be basing hypocritical on is like you don't support this community so therefore even though I'm of the same faith I'm not going to donate to you 'cause they're also no longer donating to the fellowship of Christian. The athletes and the Paul Enersen Tom Because people wonder why I am against organized early. I know right. I like the whole idea of being spiritual that ball show is fine I I I have no problem with people. Believe in what they believe. It's the organized part art. where it's like? Hey you better believe this or you're going over liar will bad people. But let's this dad staying because it's not as sad like motherfucker. Bad is bad. The right that is bad in my opinion but I guess morals is different than spirituality organized religion alleged. Not that spirituality a subjective objective. Well we I know this conversation is not saying that I am opposed to the LGBTQ community. I JUST WANNA put that out there. I don't want no hate mail. Being that is not the reason she's talking about is one. It's really stupid to say. Hey I'm a hard bible thumping Christian but yet you don't support the LGBTQ Xyz community so fuck you and it on the other hand and you got these other people say but we hate you. I like what the point. Stop It. Exactly exactly So moving along so staying with fast food and stuff We hear you know how Burger King came out with the impossible walker which is like the it was not allow there is a lawsuit. "Blackett it but then you wait. Wait then. Actually Dan Dan come back with. Hey Youtube you can go suck it get a coffee cup and then there are algorithms are like what do I do. Okay so yeah it's it's the vagueness of of the Copa Law. It's it's everything and yes. It does affect us and everybody else this this has to initiate. The you know what I thought you were saying you know common sense. It's so vague right. So so the lawmakers takers of the FCC arguments can see going to be what we're going to use commonsense. Yeah what we're talking about. A federal commission charging somebody common sense is what's going to get the FCC most fights right that's what they're gonNa bits where their rulings are going to. It's going to become. It's nobody's going to be thinking it through. They're going to be. How far can we he pushes through the wing? Get more money out of Louis. You hit on something good. They're gas talk about well. I'm glad you brought that up. One hundred seventy million dollars others that youtube and Google the company had to pay to the Federal Trade Commission so at this conference from money. Oh Oh yes yes. One hundred seventy million dollars. The Youtube and Google finds penalty paid out is roughly the budget of the Bureau of Consumer Consumer Protection for one year the agency budget is three hundred million won. Seventy is dedicated to them. Supposedly reimbursing the tax payers with this penalty and that was from Andrew Smith the bureau the Bureau directory. That's exactly what he said he said. Hey these fines took off the taxpayers. This year aren't you happy. Okay but still. You're telling an artist that they have to pay fine. They shouldn't have had to pay in the first Guy Damn blaze and who are working in the artists. Are the taxpayers right. I someone tells me that the taxpayers gotta break. Where's the break buddy like seriously don't know fuzzy math in this please right I I'll flip a bit I will I will? I'll flip the no fuzzy. Yeah and I think it's funny because people think that they just done this in a year the FCC with their investigation with youtube and Google but it was over like two and a half three years. And I'm like okay so you mean to tell me in a year you couldn't figure out whether or not they were knowingly doing this so it took you three more years give or take. I can't remember the exact time line. And then all of a sudden when the head hundred seventy million dollars comes out. That's exactly enough to cover this part of the bureau really. I mean I'm just sitting here wondering WHO's pocket get it to go into but hey conspiracy theorists in all honestly I I see if this passes they start levying fines. No artist is going to be able to fight this. It's going to be about the government saying Oh we're going to take that money. They are living underground they are. They are leveling fines because right now as it stands per video on youtube you can be subject. Subjected to to up to forty two thousand five hundred and some odd dollars per dio for a wrongly labelled video per video oh per video so if you've got two hundred videos and one hundred ninety nine of them are not labeled correctly you do the fucking math. Tell me who the fuck that's fair to you and some of these people don't do it knowingly because they read the law to you you can go look at it yourself self. It's so fucking vague and is there going to be a grant from all see. Exactly no nope. nope isn't the fact is they've already eighty said who if I labeled mine adult content and because something in there may be cartoonish yet or playful or something and the Copa Law now designates it on to be a kid friendly I am now screw. Yup that is too vague. I think we need to go. After the vagueness of the law the lock is State. WHO The hell cares? Maybe maybe actually use the fact that there's a general General under a General Media Law Media Law but as media. Yeah Yeah General Audience Portion. Actually have that not just said law but actually practiced say you to pay you to and what the general part in there and we might not have any problems. We have four well even then even then Copa say that you can still be held liable. It doesn't no matter what it's labeled as you can still be held liable. That's my point with all this. I think it's a two-part two-part fight first part is the funding for say for instance we get on a DVD. It's on there and We're under general which is fine in general. Everyone sees it everyone. Everyone sees we get money for that. Second part is the rules. And the laws are not so overpaying. Twenty like this. I mean we have lawyers and audience or people who just understand law. The fact is as long as this law law or these rules are so arbitrary and they you can find yourself in a news at any point in time under these laws wants wants to become more precise pinpoint. Then it's a little bit easier to enlarge. Everyone can cancel well. That's that's why everybody not everybody. L. Majority of people are really concerned about it because they have stated and they stated at that conference no matter what you label it as you are still held liable and they haven't made for certain what you're held liable for yet which we're still waiting on because that's not been released to the public. I wonder why. But it's like if you're going to hold US liable even though we've read it. Why next that's right? Oh you know they aren't. We need our budget for next year. I Oh my God well. Since I've ran into the twenty five minute mark against we'll go to break. We'll come back with joe this in the news because that was my fucking spiel for the the night because you know. That's that's Bo that's how this shit works but if you'd like to leave a comment.

"Doesn't matter because because it's a toy made for trump like art. You're telling me that because I said Shit and a model video while I was painting that I'm now held liable for or a five year. Old Sanchez really know. Go Fuck Yourself. That's what I say about it and it really bothers me because I was tilling grown men and all these before the show started really actually had plans to start doing things for veterans and military members families for their kids here here on TV radio. But now I don't know which way too fucking turn because on one hand we need it on the other hand. Am I going to be held liable because because we have a parent on here that says something on one of the shows and a child hears it am I now held liable like is. DV Radio held liable liable because all websites are held up to capo in the United States. If you are based in in the United States you are held under this law. So that's why it's bothering me and that's why we are sort of what you guys to help us with it but go ahead. Yeah I was GONNA ask question and I chose this to you earlier. The audience too. We mean we see how we live it you are. I can't see him. He's not on camera. We'll play thank you thank you What at this take point? What do we need to start doing as people jobs is basically leaders affects people's ability to create art waiting to What am I coast trance artist? You love saying all different types of stuff on is a on his tracks and I feel like you know he does podcast. So what can we start doing now to new ahead shake things up make things a little bit more common sense but those stupid people out there who just think that they're right right. Well I did mention earlier and I read my entire public comment. That may or may not go out to the public. And that's he may or may not read but one way you can help us to go to regulations dot Gov Ford Slash comment and I'm going to put the key The link in the chat room here in a moment limit but you can go there and you can leave public comment. You don't have to be you. Don't have to put your name or anything like that. You can leave it completely anonymous Just put that you are Whatever whatever you WANNA say B B family friendly? I'm asking I was GONNA say beep. We's I honestly asking you if if you're GONNA do it on behalf of DB radio do it in a professional family friendly manner. Because I don't WanNa look like the jackass that said Hey fucking. Federal Trade Commission mission in the public domain. I won't that. Yeah it's on the PODCAST. But that's a different story. I'm not telling it does face. Okay so just did that like to the right doesn't have this works oops by so yes again if you're not in the chat room it's regulations Dot G. Oh the Ford slash comment like I said please. If you do leave a comment comet the family friendly professional cursing or insinuating any harm or anything like that. Just tell them hey. This is an an idiot. Eric idea to hold a creator or artist on any domain. I don't care what spectrum you're at just make sure that they're not being held liable if we have a rating systems should it the rating system. Stand for something I mean. Is it that why they started. The rating system for movies and Video Games was so oh that those companies would have to deal viable and now they're being held fucking liable fifteen years old meant to be changed broken. Yeah well not not this. The more I think about this the more the more I think about what the what is the implication of this could be. We're moving closer closer to George. Orwell's picture in Nineteen eighty-four. I mean at this point. Now we're starting to to to police thoughts and ideas. That's what they're that's where they're headed. is they really are and parents know. Go raise their children. The state raises as the children. That's that's where this is going. It's taking the right of parents away to raise their children and putting it on laws and on the state and making other other people responsible rather than parents protecting the parents right to turn around and say no. You can't watch that Yup I it's it's what's it mean. Well that that's what that's what bothers me to. Why the hell do we have parental controls? If we're going to hold someone else liable when our kid hacks for lack of a better term those parental control parental controls. TV for everything else. Oh you can't have that you got out OK okay as soon as your router and where your kids computer can go in this. This is my take on it as soon as you were adult enough to have sex and how the kid you were adult enough to take responsibility for. You're fucking child's actions and to say. Hey I fucked up. I didn't so that child right from wrong. I didn't tell them not to do this. I didn't tell them not to go there however Apparently in twenty nights seen the apocalypse happened and facebook and Hillary Rodham Clinton said Fuck. Everybody else that's not how this works. Yeah I just threw out some names out there. You can kill me later while I'm surprised it's like that's like I mentioned last week Bo. Kamla Harris wants children to be in school until eighteen hundred hours. Eighteen hundred hours not worried about backwards. Words I was like you've got MARDI apply on speed. Dial or something us. Yeah Yeah. It's it's Asinine you had the child. It's your responsibility to raise that child. If you cannot then give it to someone. Who Can Dan? Rae speaking on the players I think that was the purpose for that was to see to attempt to receive more federal funding but in a way as long as being school. Nobody wants to be in school that long anyway. I know I did what I was a kid. I got more trouble trying to break outta school. The but but as far as you know people try to people needing to parent their children Who Was it the? I can't remember his name right now. the PTA DOT guy. 'cause to this case keys right fake. This is turning into a state where the state raises your child. You almost have no say and then what are we really going to get twenty five years from now. What type of what type of person's GonNa be a normal person in America who was raised by the state in that commerce as parents with the guy giving foresight to say hey numskull premier yes? Clean up your room. Do we supposed to do you gotta make money one day. You're going to get a job. It'll be too stupid to get any job Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. Owned by the way. You're not old enough to look at the state's going to raise them but as a stake in take responsibility fuck fuck up. Now that's going to be back charge artists exactly or an imagine a singer get in trouble for lyric and they actually go to jail thing about that that's happened I'd find snow heavily by the FCC that they can no longer make a living singing not only that not only that. What really pisses me off about this shit is that people like Lenny Bruce George Carlin all those mother fuckers they actually done shit to say? Hey I'm a fucking human being. This is an adult content rated show. I'm going to say Shit ASS BUT DIP Shit Pussy Z. Whatever the fuck but yet they got arrested for it and then it was then it was like okay as long as it's eighteen and older? You're okay to do it right. And now we're back back to before lenny bruce where it's like. Oh no no. You're you're at fault here. You're the reason for the devil. Like really really motherfucker seriously. I mean they tried to blame columbine on Marilyn Manson Oma fucking Gosh. Yeah you're remember that. Yeah I was I was. I was still in the barracks. Sorry I was too but I remember that like it was yesterday. This is how it has become they. I mean I think putting putting him back on like towards towards mushroom I get it because at some time every single rap song was the reason for every single yellow hood shooting there ever was yup the wrath in the rappers like out on I mean and again. It's common sense. I knew and my parents knew that. Listen to certain songs was GonNa give me a little hyper useful communist down now. It all goes back to parenting all of it. Every single piece of it goes back to parenting but they've made parenting almost illegal. It's almost illegal to correct your child in any way anymore. I mean I can't GonNa get a beat and I'm sorry I I I you know I. I made sure my kids understood there were consequences. I'm going to start calling him. GM instead of girl man but uh-huh on this day and age if the kid complaints to the right to the right person because they got trouble and they lost privileges or Gavin. Forbid they they gotTa Spanky well he he brought up rap music and ICED tea had an interview a month ago. anti-vice and you guys remember what the police right. Obviously I like ice tea tube. I'm more of a Slice Orange Soda Fan right right. What so so he was asked you know? Do you have any regrets about the music you've made or anything like that. And so no right right right right but they asked him if he were starting today would he be able to make fuck the police and he said no he said ain't no way there's there's no way he could make fuck the police today and a it means the same thing that it meant back then because it means two different things than ever fucking Mitt and he explained you know the whole Rodney King and stuff like that and there is a whole other other world and culture as to why he made that they have taken that today Ryan Rabbit with it and it's not what it means and he basically said he made that today he would be the problem. Not that personal. Oh he would be the problem but like all these looters and rioters we had recently. They would blame it on ice tea. There was. I thought the police. We're GONNA fuck welcome you know. That's and he's right. He sees it more than anybody else. That's any type of music industry. Because he's been there he's what sixty some years old seventy almost like. That man has lived right and yet. You've got people like copper ever saying no you're wrong. You can't do that. I don't care if you've got a parental advisory sticker on there. You're still held accountable. They can't they throw like fuck early. That's where it's headed gravy nets thought-controlled imaginings retroactive. Like imagine. Imagine so everything that wasn't existence. Oh yeah well you should let your like some seventy year old Marilyn Manson momentum as a seventy two seventy five years old sitting in his down rocking chair Thomasson hours last rib. I should have never taken it out soon because some kids somewhere listen at craft and all. Yeah well I really WANNA take out the entire school and saw because I listened to them around Metz how well what it's like. Okay okay so someone asked if you're listening to soccer for that was from Gir. There's a reason I'm really passionate about this. And a couple of weeks ago I wrote about Taylor swift and people are like who the fuck cares about that pussy ass and okay safe first of all. The article I wrote about was not because I'm in favor of Taylor swift. Okay what I am. Not In favor of is the fact that she's getting fucked over royally right now and I don't know what her contract says. But they're telling her she can and cannot do this and that and the other and I'm pretty sure that Taylor's been through the legal system and read enough contracts and written and signed enough that she knows whether or not she can do something whether it's recorded or performing like if it's one of those definitions right but they're telling her hey. You can't perform these songs because you said you wouldn't record until next next year. Any of these songs will now. You're telling all artists that even know it says no recording until a certain date that they can't even perform it and so now you're telling me the definition has legally changed in that amount of time that recording also.

"Kids were ads that are presented in such a way that they appear to be directed to children now l.. Look I'm not a fucking lawyer but I'm GonNa tell you right now all. This is so fucking vague that anybody can be held accountable for anything. They put up as content. Another another thing. That really hurts someone on our degree as far as audio audio content appealing to children. Get this simple or popular teams or songs songs cartoon voices like hey there little Katie. How are you doing childlike noises and sound effects? That is so fucking Bait that you can't get any more fucking day. What what is boiling down to is that a rating system longer takes liability from from you as the artist or creator and me being both of those and all of us here at Devi radio that bothers me greatly fucking greatly because back in the early nineteen eighties? You know the little parental advisory sticker that says explicit on albums that just popped up one day. That's because Mrs Gore and some mothers got together and said I'm not gonNA sit around and listen to a full album with my child to make sure it's okay so I think it's up to the artists to tell me whether or not it's okay and that hurt us it really did. It really hurt artist. You don't think it did let it did. Even John Denver set in the courtroom and he said that it was the dumbest thing to like. He understood rating systems as far as movies. But to do that on music and stuff like that it was retarded and it is movies as a whole nother bag of Buchan beans. Get that I get that music you have to go purchase the music same with TV shows. You have to tell your kid. Hey that's not a good thing for your buck and ask to watch. I need to get off my soapbox. Who else wants to chime in? Well I guess that takes the whole video games are dangerous for kids now then too because I guess rating system on those means absolutely absolutely nothing. See that's that's the thing absolutely nothing nothing it'd be riots. The Luton nothing because video games aren't going to be Emulated dislike animates emulate beside movies. Aren't GONNA be emulated. The entire thing is hey your kid is GonNa want something. Make sure your kid knows that. This isn't freaking real life. You should be doing. This in though was spun is addicted to reality entertainment everywhere everywhere. My parents did it by parents that me now say hey look you got down on power ranger okay. Look I don't care if you like the Green Ranger he's he's got a cool little sort. You don't have no sort stupid. Sit Out and that in and then I said now I did I did exactly. And that's that's where I'm I'm I'm really struggling. Not So lose it and I I didn't I didn't I went to the public for over there there comment on the Federal Trade Commission's web site and I said some things and this is is what I basically said so even though we not for kids or label it to the age that it is best suited for held liable for that child's actions. No you're expecting me after saying quote unquote. Hey Little Kid. This isn't for you to police. That parents kid or kids where does take responsibility for others in policing Leeson yourself begin. I completely understand that things should be labelled as such as many kids do not need to see nor hear some of the things that are said and poetry. How how ever isn't it on the shoulders of the parents at the end of the day to know what their kid or kids are are not doing watching and listening to? Why is it on the Creator or the artist? You're saying that we have to raise a child. That isn't even ours. Even though we never said one foot into that child's whole how does that on any level of commonsense or intelligent wife. Make any sense whatsoever. This is it has. This is and has been becoming a huge huge problem for over the last forty years. It began with the parental advisory stickers on music albums and it has ballooned into co unquote. You are you are responsible responsible for my child saying insert explicit word. I'm going to sue you for ruining my child's mind. No I am not responsible for what your child does. It doesn't do at the end of the day. A child go into a porn site. Is that porn site held liable now because that child clicked over eighteen instead of clicking under eighteen. You're making and it ridiculous and telling the parents to not raise their own children again. I do approve of say in whether or not a piece of art is or isn't pro-children rating in systems. That type of stuff. Okay but do that but make creators and artists do that. That's completely acceptable as there might be content within it that a child does not need need to be open to at that age. They're wanting to play that video game. Listen to that music. Or what did your shows but to sit there and tell me that although I labeled labeled something not for kids that I am still responsible. The Responsible Party because that child's parents couldn't take the time of the day to tell them no. Oh this is for you sweetie yet to be out of your mind. That is exactly what I wrote to the Federal Trade Commission whether or not they listen to that probably fucking not. But if I'm wrong please tell me right now I was gonna say that sounds to me like we are here to parent your child exactly. It's that's not how this the teacher not not a babysitter. Okay what even and being a teacher. It's being a parent to the child because if we can be held responsible for that child to actions then guess what. I'm GonNa Take that fucking kids allowance other other than the parental advisory that parental advisory stickers that popped up in the eighties the next biggest thing that really hurt parents taking responsibility and raising their kids was the child. No less the no child left behind act in my opinion. It's a good thing in theory but to say. Hey we're gonNA push your kid through grade school and then through high school and it's okay if they don't learn everything they need to be with their peers. You're getting namen. They're in school to learn motherfucker like everybody look okay. I don't know about you guys but I've been in job options where my peer is like twenty or twenty five years older than me look real life people getting different jobs and are different ages all the damn time exact so just just because oh you gotta steal. No ROTIMI didn't figure the crap out and maybe maybe it's maybe it's JC phone. We don't know either way little timmy. Yes he has a moustache and he still in in a free full bearded of beer. Okay he's t stays at least eight inches above everyone else. We understand the look. You get it somewhere else. I'm you know. Nokia left behind with some bs the participation medals. Yeah well another hot button for me. Sweet Baby Jesus. I want to destroy Guinea one. Who did that that that has created an entire generation feels entitled to getting something when they just showed up? I'm sorry there is a thing for competition Titian and you must enter it in order to win something negative. We'll see competition anymore. That that's what they're pushing they're pushing that life is no longer a competition. So survival of the fittest is still a real thing. But but see. There's there's a few things everything it's GonNa be free. Well that's the only thing. Go ahead wait while just GONNA say. Apparently I'm kind of confused here because obviously I'm not held responsible now for my kid clicks on a porn site. You know apparently now right but what happens about my say about what it's taught in schools or what gets read to them in schools like drag Queen Ladies and men come in there and start reading to kids in school or excuse me. I guess that was a public library. Where but you know what I'm saying? Where does my voice as the parents stops? Because I'm not going to let my kids watch for and obviously you know what I'm saying right out hustling delivered shit a little guy but this is this whole thing is a little confusing. I mean it really is. It's like it's Kinda Horse Shit though at the same time definitely definitely and another thing. That people don't understand. Is that at the end of the day. You're telling me as an artist and creator how I can create and make art and I'm telling you right now. That's not how artworks an art is a matter of opinion between the artists and the consumer that is it that is it there is no in fucking between okay. There is no good to make art right default. It's a follow up on Wync with saying very Does this mean that if my child shot your child. Can I sue you. Because my child didn't like your kid apparently league. According to fuck in United States law now the tenor or Smith and Wesson coal because you know and and does that mean or or am I going to be held responsible because I had a gun in my house and my child stole my gun and see your child see. That's where you've got that fine line again because one day it's your fault the next day it's Liam Neeson's fall from taken because he took a gun anyone after some people to get his daughter back. What is it the kids fault? I'm sorry to hear. Well not not only that. When is it the kid and the parents responsibility for the one parent to say? Hey Halo Johnny don't touch. It hurts people. You'll go to jail and mom you'll go to jail and daddy will go to jail because you're under rage and I'm a beat the fuck out of you shoot anybody but they don't drive drunk spoon Mimi Fat. I'm suing them both. That's exactly exactly well. That's an owing brings up another good point though now now in most states it's the bartenders fall as somebody really out and gets a DUI kill somebody. It's the bartenders. I'm sorry Andre. The giant has knowingly drink twenty four beers and been perfectly fine line. Yeah the man's a big motherfucker but I've seen some small less women that could put down some fucking Tequila and be perfectly okay so you can't sit there and tell me that a bartender tender is gonNA be like. Oh yeah this is your second shot little four foot nothing girl. You can't have another one. No no their boat. Vote to use to to use that. As an example the bartender thing There was a case in Massachusetts where the bartender tried to cut a guy off from firm because she was like. You've had too much to drink. He threw his fit. The boss said just give it to them and then the guy after he got fucking and he goes out and kills his family. Yeah and the bartender was was being charged. Remember that because we talked about it here. That's that's like I was trying like. When did it become her responsibility? She tried to do the right thing right so to get back on this cop. Copa thing people are we're asking. How's IT GONNA affect all the creators artists? This is how it's going to affect us. You have people in my artistry like scale models that make AAC all kinds of colorful models that are usually intended for kids know took their intended for kids dungeons and dragons Forty K. war or hammer all of that is intended for mainly kids at a certain point however most people that actually bad this shit and do stuff with it are in the nineteen to forty two year old age and they're men and women however with this bullshit.

"Talk Live where you're listening to his own podcast. Anyway we're back on Boehner. Would we've still got grown ASS motherfucker man point Google and our P. T. S. dog. I did promise you that would start talking about top COPA. Whatever the fuck you want to call the Guy Damn thing as soon as we got back from break and For those that don't know what let COPPA is. It is the Children's own Land Privacy Protection Act of nineteen ninety eight which is a United States federal law and The reason we're talking about is because every a few years I think like ten years They revise it Completely understandable Its main reason is to be there for anyone. Thirteen years and under sure So you can't track them. find out their information stuff like that Anything like YouTube kids of perfect example. You go ready to kids and you watch video over there. Nothing on there has comments likes dislikes a rating system. Nothing it's like watching television home For kids that's basically what it's meant to do and it does a pretty good fucking job of it What problems you I have? You may ask well just recently and by recently I mean over the past few years Youtube and Google got hit by the FTC the Federal Trade Commission With one hundred seventy seventy million dollar lawsuit a one hundred me not me google the actual Google the company That's right one hundred seventy million dollars. Why did they get hit with such a large lousy Because they knowingly knowingly supposedly knowingly I don't no one lead do this shit Took information from kids thirteen years and under how the thought they were supposed to know that I don't know They say they've got proof. I still don't know how You know as well as I do anyone That wants to go to a website and make an account they can. They can put whatever birthdate verify. So there's ways around back doors stuff like that. I'm sure they might have some type of Information in there but I I don't anyway. It started to affect Youtube in such a way that youtube implemented a a a ticker for creators channels. T- take if it skipped friendly or it's not if it's not then kids can't find it But they said that you recovered. Apparently you're not covered but it's pre- kids only and the reinforcer it's for kids only or vice versa. Yeah that's the general consensus. It should be like that. But it's not they just had the Federal Trade Commission Conference of two two thousand Nineteen Just recently and The Chairman Joe Simmons was quoted at the beginning copper requires that certain websites is an absolute parents can set before collect personal information from children. The definition of personal information includes cookies using behavioral. Advertising Copa applies differently on third parties using behavioral ADS versus creators of child directed Consett while the content creators are strictly liable for COPPA or COPA compliance. Third parties are subject to COPPA or copays requirements only where they have actual knowledge that the website or service. They are serving the ads who is child directed. Oh my God. What does that mean? Well he owned say platforms. Such as Youtube are not liable for creators content the subject to you kids content. They are not to determine whether a video is directed toward kids or not going forward. Ford Google the company and you will oh have knowledge if the video is directed towards kids or not they cannot turn a blind eye to this any longer Right now no other companies under this as this is not yet a wall but if it's not yet wall are you worried about it both because thanks to child advocacy rips. You know places like Nad and and stuff like that and I commend mad on what their mission is but they're like pita they're fucking retards when it comes to execution but anyway they started saying. Hey this video here has a forty year old man playing with Gi Joe's and my kid watched it and now he's beating his little sister. I'm going to sue him. And it's perfectly okay to sue that forty year old guy that was playing with G. I.. Joe Because their kid does something. I'm not joking. That's exactly what this is turned into. It's turned into a bunch of bullshit the whole let's take responsibility and put it on somebody else. That's what has turned into. So how is it affecting Devi radio and Youtube and anyone on a streaming service such as spotify or Pandora Org Net flicks or anything of that nature If you go and look at the Copa Slash COPPA. How're the fuck? You want to say it because nobody knows how to fuck and yes it And go to their COPA COPPA. Survey it has. I think it's like a thirteen informational page or list Things that can go through to see if a website is or is not directed towards kids A few of those things in there. It's so vague. It's not even funny. I'll talk to a grown ass man about this and we talked about it before the show a little bit and I've talked to WHO A few other people outside of this this week Subject matter that is appealing to children. I kids jokes. Music Kids Gains Video Game Computer Games this children's TV shows have stars cartoon characters stores Stories sports toys Children's books stuff that nature presentation the language of the website such as language. That is simple enough to be understandable to children twelve and under again it's thirteen and under but this is a little outdated Short colorful description slang slanging pop quarter phrases like kids site may be identified by such language as kids only fun free stuff. Whatever cool duh games ask your parents etc.? That's exactly what that's as worded in this Survey other things use opposed to characters such as a character actor property. Use offline like Mickey Mouse Garfield stuff like.

Yeah we you know so After the break we are going to seriously talk about What COPPA COPA? However you WANNA say it? What does that is and what our problem is? Well my problem is with it Yeah really pissed off about it. So there's that problem you're probably right yet so so so If you're not familiar what Copa Capo. Whatever the fuck you want to call? It is children's Online Privacy Protection Act of nineteen ninety eight and is a united United States that are allow what that basically means. Is that no one under the age of thirteen can go online and you collect their data. You know all those cookies that you see that supposedly helps people with COPPA COPA. Whatever the fuck you WANNA call it? it thanks to child epilepsy rips. They're being Dick's this cheer and well soon you should is supposed to be implemented next year. That's going to affect everybody. That is a creator or an artist from everything from youtube to just this this website to spotify to door you name it if it's a streaming service in any way shape or form or it makes some type of content it's somehow going to affect us And I'm really pissed off and it comes to my artistry and creativity and I don't like being told what to do. You gotta see like you believe in saint got a ABC s man and you ain't going to tax me attack. Whatever it gets okay? Okay tell him that man this down on that I feel I feel like I'm will Ferrell and you're Kevin Hart and I'm about to go to jail right the right man. Hey Hey don't teach there too. You have to bank. He actually up to forty five gallon of paying attention. person like okay. Stop now and we'll be fine. Okay mastaba Lumumba's uh-huh that's his own. Jesus Christ we just went there. We're talking about sub to believe so you know we're talking about Copa then somehow got reduced. Who brought what up peace during your prison wallet? Where's that but you? It's all right because here I am scrolling around on facebook and I saw post and I had to research it and and I found a headline that says these are G. `cuse twenty nineteen men of the year issue cover stars and the first cover has Jaylo on it. I'm like I. The last I checked. Jennifer Lopez was a woman. I didn't realize she now identifies as a man in men of the year ear Shit Picture Jalen so my grandkids. And this is ricky. Martin this is what a real man looks like teases craze are. Are you kidding me right now. What was that movie she played in? Selena is that. Is that the name of the movie about the Mexican singer that was this. Is that the one that died killed by her bed or whatever that was beautiful she done good in that movie. Yeah that was back before you know she got got big butts and big tits and anyway. We'll just work working working out. Working out. gave her her pocket as they looked like it had been filled with silicone and some women just pay for breast implants. I've seen at shots. I've seen them. AUGMON is at shots. That's the worst thing you can do in life. I think this is like all the other cardinal sins but still it was bad. No I have the answer. Google Google you have got back on. Google was best. Just so let me get this straight Jaylo was one of the G. Q.. Sexiest Man Two Thousand Nineteen Eighteen felony. Get cheese she's on the cover of the twenty thousand nine hundred fifty year issue. Oh Buddy a few weeks ago the ram a Ti you know. Ti Clipper. Hairs is his name he he came on record saying that he accompanies his daughter to Her gynecological that she is a minor attitude like seventeen or sixteen now. He accompanies the daughter to her gynecological base to To confer with the doctor that her highland is still intact attacked because he wants to make sure she's still a verging later on two weeks later after outrage on the entire Internet at this happened he should be doing that. It has that's creepy. They put up a picture of him in they put up a picture excuse me picture saying that. Ti and his wife. Tiny have reconciled their differences on the issue of him going to the gynecologist daughter. They put a picture of someone else as him. That's what happened the same way. They don't know how to tell people what it is. I'm so confused I am too. You know what bloop forty gallons so I'm GONNA go out. Yeah yeah that's what he's going to do he's going to sit down. I'll go sit out man because who would be standing in for actually actually improve his image once again ricky. Ricky uh-huh actually actually if you go to G Q dot Com and look at many of the year covers and read the paragraph that says the icon Jennifer Lopez it. It gives you The reason why she's on the cover it says in two thousand nineteen hustlers. You're by surprise. Emerging as perhaps the year's Best Bill It's undisputed star our Jennifer Lopez Moonlights as global pops are an internet melting fashion icon. And at her Manhattan Penthouse. She joins Jessica Pressler. Who wrote the Article For New York magazine that inspired Hustler's for an all encompassing QNA? On whether or not she's a bad bitch that's quotations being open about her age and her life without a ride so that's why she's on the front cover the point she is. I'm I'm the man of the year issue. That's not the person you know. That's not the first time on the front of the cupboard. It kind of defeats the purpose. If it's the men of the year then there should not be women on the covers of the years article is little. None of the year is just an article. It's an issue but it's an article. They named it the issue. But it's an article I get what you're saying. They shouldn't have it solarge article on the front cover. They shouldn't have it so large. We'll tell them to that. Tell them at ten house playboy if they've put a guy on there that men aren't are you going to buy it if they're not gay. I mean even though there's women who if we want to go that route if we want to go at all well we need to go to break on the other side of the break. We're going to talk about cup a website creators and artists as well as consumers including DD radio but you are listening to us here on radio dot net w you. DVR This is Barry. Unmanageable that you have to pull their main just to keep it short. No ASEN's Maine has not grown since I got him him yet. I've had to trim his tail six times. Now wait grade the hell out of it. I WANNA I'm like this is insane. These backwards wow. You can do the the whole thing. That's happened right. I could but I'm not going to because then you have one of your show horses. Voice Technology Applications That Are Not Alexa and Friends With Jeff Adams CEO of Cobalt
"What's next Invoice Technology Jeff Adams welcome back to the voice by podcast in drink to be here Brad. Thank you for inviting me well. It was great to actually see you in Newark the first first time we've talked a number of times. I've had you on the podcast in the past and we we've done an interview two years ago but we'd never actually better person. We'd never been in the same room together. It was really nice in Newark to do that. I know I verify finally that you were not just an A. I bought the other end but yes some people think there must be my lack of personality Switzerland so just for the voice by listeners out there jeff was our guests and episode fifty nine one in year ago this month in that we really went deep and we discussed his time leading the our team the built out Amazon Alexa his time with nuance and a number of other companies spanning a more than twenty year career invoice that his yielded over twenty patents so he's been at the technical level in this space for a number of years check that out if you want to get the full back story on what he's doing it cobol and and also I should probably say congratulations jeff making the top forty four leaders invoice list with which voiced by put out last month. Thank you very much much. I am excited and honored to be on that list and yeah look. I hope I can live up to whatever expectations that creates well yeah I. I think we had a independent panel of judges in. I think your career speaks for itself so they put you on the list and I nodded approvingly when I saw you on there so I thought it was great. Great Great. Thank you okay so maybe setup. Today's conversation Jeff made a presentation. Eh The voice summit voice nineteen in July was called ten favourite application applications of speech not involving Alexa inference so I was conducting interview at the same time. Jeff was presenting so I miss the presentation somewhat selfishly. I thought afterwards persuade them to present it to me. Live so I could understand had what he was sharing but then I thought even better why don't I record the conversation for the voice spot podcast audience so we could both benefit from these insights from someone who's been around the the block in his looking beyond the elected Google assistant ecosystem so here's how I suggest we proceed Jeff. You've ten examples will walk through them in a countdown fashion starting with number ten afterward. If we have a little time as question for you about how the industry is evolving that sound good to you are fantastic okay without further redo ten applications of speech not evolving Lexus in France starting with number Tad. I believe that is smart. Baby Monitor senator. Is that correct. That's right so my my number ten on my list. Is that smart baby monitor so there are a couple of people that are looking at things like this. The one I would give a shoutout to is a group in Toronto called Village Technologies They are developing this end. I think is a fantastic idea India as a parent myself when you have a baby you wanna be able to monitor them in there in the nursery and their crib wherever and so it's common to put a a microphone that you can listen in on when you're out doing your work. You're in the kitchen year somewhere else in the office. and you want to be able to hear you know when the baby wakes up but why stop there. Why don't we put some some smarts into that baby monitor so that it can track the baby's linguistic development element as it's evolving? It's going over the first year or two or three of of of life and be able to tell the difference between babble all and maybe a crime may be well formed syllables that are formed of consonants and vowels and what do they start saying actual words. What are the first words and so forth and be able to monitor that over time so that you can you know track your baby's progress but also be alerted to if there's an issue if there's some development delay in your baby speaking and you can address that quickly and in time signed to do something about it. I think this is a fantastic idea that that you know you. WanNa be listening to your baby anyway. Let's pay attention to this so I think this is fascinating. Reading from a business standpoint makes a lot of sense to me too because parents are so focused on the development of their children. I can see how if this is successful and they they position correctly could probably get significant uptake. I'm really interested in what they're doing on the back end here and potentially taking thousands tens of thousands thousands maybe even millions of children who are very young and developing this database of sounds of infants yet exactly in the pre speech communication right and can we figure out the difference between a baby. That's just you know exercising their vocal cords or someone that's legitimately upset or in pain or hungry or I. I'm excited excited to see what comes of that and what they're able to do with that. It's very. I don't know if you're wearing that is their corpus. It exists which is of like infants in their vocalisations there there are recordings of infants but the hard part is to get appropriate labels on them so you know it's hard to know. No one babies crying was that because they were hungry was that because their diaper needed changing was that because they are in pain of of some sort or whatever in order for such a carcass useful you're in the sense of trying to understand what the cries vocalisations elections mean you'd have to know you'd have to have a bunch of labeled baby vocalisations and that's hard to come up with. You know you're you don't Wanna ago. Actually you know poke babies with a pin here what it sounds like when they're you know in pain right. You don't want to starve them to hear what they sound like when they're a AH hungry so you just have to you know I think if we're going to do something like that if we're GONNA WE'RE GONNA get to the point of being able to analyze that you'll have to get the recordings things that babies will naturally make throughout the course of their of of their formative years and and then after the fact try to figure out now. Why were they crying. What was that sound for. Whatever well so this isn't something that's easily outsourced to contractors for supervised learning annotation right? That's that's right. That's right topic in today's news right. Yeah you kind of need you kind of need the parents to be able to say oh. Here's why the baby was crying. I figured it out. It's like crowd outsource annotation. It's brilliant exactly you know. There's another thing that I think could go with this very easily. People talk about the thirty million word gap between a babies that here a lot of speech when they're growing up and babies they don't hear a lot of speech and much has been made about how the the the thirty million word gap accounts for the difference between babies who grow up with strong language skills and babies who don't babies. You're academically advantaged or not so in addition to listening to the babies. This kind of baby monitor might actually WANNA listen to the adults in the room as well all to see. How much speech is the baby hearing What kind of speech is the baby hearing. You know positive positive language. Is the baby hearing whatever also there. I think there's a lot that can be done with this and and and we're just looking. We're just starting to think about it now. Yeah I think that over time the system could supplement if if it saw this this word I don't know what you call this word count utterance. It's deficit deficit rate with there's some deficit in terms of the number of words they're hearing on a daily weekly monthly basis. They adds up to that thirty million million over time that this solution might not necessarily cajole the parents into talking more but might supplement it with. I don't know reading to the child or having the interactive stories or something like that. That's right. You could absolutely do that but I think there's also underestimate the value of game vying. I that sounds that sounds like I'm trivializing this but raising a child is one of the most important things any anyone one can do but you know if you if just like people track their steps in and whatever if you're tracking the words that your babies hearing that might encourage you to be thinking about that and saying Oh. I need to read more to my child. I need to talk more to my child and so forth yeah I I think it's fascinating so the idea that we can have this giant Corpus of of infant utter a vocalisations utterances of some sort and then eventually actually potentially be able to label that this whole new Corpus which I assume would be a big advantage for whoever's launched these these absences soon there will be several over time and then maybe that's used more broadly now there is this other potential issue around COPPA but I assume they would just be an opt-in Dan. The parents could could sign up or right right exactly you wouldn't want to do this and participate in this unless you were willing to opt in and have that have the baby monitor actually pay attention to your babies speech and so forth okay so that was that was an interesting conversation all right so that's number ten. That's only number ten. It just gets better from from here all right well. Let's talk about number nine so number nine what we see everywhere everywhere. I look but I frequently run into mentions mentions of unmanned aerial vehicles whether they are urban taxis are drones that are monitoring pollution or whatever there's there's an increasing number of unmanned aerial drones and a problem with that that most people don't think about is that if if these if these drones are going to be able to fly through commercial airspace unlike overflying airport land at a Commercial Airport doesn't I'm not talking necessarily about landing at JFK but you even if they're going to overfly a regional airport that has an air traffic control tower they have to be able able to talk to air traffic control so these these airplanes that are that are flying around have to be able to understand and speak to air traffic control so it has to be able to say requesting permission to land on runway nineteen and and then the air traffic control will say something back it has to understand no sorry use runway thirteen instead approach from the northeast.
The U.S. is talking, and the EU is regulating. Is any of it slowing down Big Tech?
"This marketplace podcast is brought to you by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Evan Lyle of rush enterprises is a big fan of Michigan as he put it. The future of mobility is going to be decided right here in the state is a planet dot com to find out why that's P.. L. A. N. Any T. DOT COM. The U._S. is talking the E._U.. Is regulating is any of it slowing down big tech from American public media. This is marketplace tech. The miss define the digital economy. I'm I'm Ali would this week's congressional. Hearings on big tech covered everything. Everything from free speech to competition to privacy to Bitcoin but they did suggest that U._S.. Lawmakers might be moving closer to some regulation to try to curb facebook Google Amazon and Apple. Meanwhile Europe up is way past the talking stage. It's big privacy law the G._D._p.. Are Is legislating data collection at U._S.. Companies and just this week that you launched a new anti-trust investigation into Amazon and find qualcomm for predatory repricing. Let's dig into the differences in approach in quality assurance the segment where we take a deeper look at big tech story. Mark Scott is chief technology correspondent with politico. We reached him at the Dublin Airport I think D._C.. Right now is playing a game of cash up so we have gone in the last eighteen months from D._C.. Washington lawmakers frankly doing nothing and saying everything's fine to frankly this week. Multiple hearings on the hill an a day of reckoning. A Big Tech so from that perspective they are moving pretty quickly is just the Europeans have been doing this for desks. The Europeans have been doing this for decades. Do you think it's been effective. Though I mean here we still are with these companies just as big the short answer is no. It's not yeah but that does not mean multibillion. Dollar fines. Don't have a role to play the way the Europeans of messed up and I'm hoping the Americans will learn from this is it's not about the fine so when facebook finding jets it's five million dollars fine. Everyone has go. That's baked in and investors care will will really matter is if the F._T._C. lawmakers on the hill and the Europeans take a meaningful look at how these companies operate and force meaningful changes in how they make money from people like you. You what do you think are the odds of that happening either from Europe or the U._S.. In the shelter I cannot be the pessimist but I think that's also not going to happen pretty because regulators and lawmakers on set up so that they are more more willing to get the headline billion dollar fine and move on what would he takes his ongoing meaningful lasting deep dive into these business models and frankly google facebook apple Amazon Vernon blank no that EH businesses better than regular many who do not have a tech background and frankly on Hilda squeak me so many struggled to really grasp what is going on what about I know this sounds crazy but what about consumer behavior ultimately is it possible people that this really could come down to competition and consumer behavior driving more change than regulators can well. This is the one thing that no one wants to talk about is the fact that we all love facebook. We all use Google Amazon prime account. The issue is Frankie. Not on both sides of the Atlantic most people still prefer tech companies even facebook to lawmakers and therefore when it comes to trust there is an issue that because we have limited contact with politicians ahead of the twenty twenty elections in states. It's just really become toxic. Mark Scott is chief technology correspondent with politico and now for some related links now. I know we just finished talking about how we don't think the government is going to take substantive steps toward regulation but maybe hold that thought the Washington Post reported Thursday that the Federal Trade Commission is considering revamping the Children's online privacy protection act better known as. COPPA it says that APPS and websites can't collect personal information about kids under the age of thirteen and it's why you're supposed to be thirteen to sign up for on line services but the F._T._C. says kids are visiting all kinds of data collecting safes like <hes> Youtube and downloading all kinds of APPs like instagram snapchat and fortnight and that it might need tougher enforcement or even new rules to deal with all that activity a bipartisan bill in the Senate would actually expand Coppa uh-huh cover kids as young as five so maybe we'll regulate after all if it's for the children seventy WHO's produces marketplace tech Eve tro is our senior producer. YouTube May Have to Stop Making Money Off Our Kids
"The US Federal Trade Commission recently did a in-depth investigation into the data collection and advertising practices towards children on YouTube what they found has kind of spurred on a certain congressman to request the FTC force YouTube to make some major changes to the way they advertise to kids Edward Markey, a Senator from Massachusetts has put together a letter in a fishery asked the FTC to enforce some strict rules and policy changes on how Google uses YouTube to advertise to kids. The document says that Coppa exists to protect children, and Google is not following it on how they treat kids data on YouTube, some of the rules that they're asking the FTC to enforce on YouTube are as follows require Google to immediately stop collecting data from any users known to be under the age of thirteen and delete all data. Google's control collected from children under thirteen. Even if now that user is thirteen or older. They want to institute an employee mechanisms to identify on an ongoing basis any users under thirteen to deny access to these users unless YouTube updates its processes to comply with Coppa now Coppa is the children's online privacy Protection Act of nineteen eighty two which is basically something that says you cannot collect data from kids twelve and under only thirteen and older. But this is saying YouTube has been doing that. They also want to not allow influencers to market to children. This is a big deal because many of you tubes, top moneymakers, our are unbalancing videos and people who do one hundred percent advertising toys and products to kids. They also want Google to be audited annually by a third party to make sure that before they put out any new content for kids. It is completely Coppa compliant. They're also asking YouTube, too. Implement a fund that will allow them to make content that is educational and entertaining for kids without collecting any data or having any advertising at all a quote from this letter that I want to read to you. I think basically outlines this request very well. It says this personal information about a child can be leveraged to hook consumers for years to come. So it is incumbent upon the F, T C to enforce federal law, and act as a check against the ever increasing appetite for children's data as a parent. We need to understand that these companies give us free content in exchange for our information when they give your kid free content. It is not free. It is in exchange for your child's information because they can use that information to sell products. They can sell them toys on Amazon. They can sell them toys directly on their channel most of what YouTube calls entertainment is actually product placement one hundred percent and. So when a unbalancing video is on or your kid is watching somebody else play video game many times, those that content has been sponsored by those companies, and they're saying, hey, you're an influence her play with my toys or play our game on your channel. So kids will want to buy it. So a lot of YouTube is one hundred percent advertising and the government is trying to do something about it, and try to make them follow these policies that have been very prevalent on television and radio and other entertainment sources up to this point, the internet is just a crazy wild wild west kind of place and the more restrictive gets the less, it's gonna feel like the internet of old, but the more important it's going to be because of the amount of time are kids are spending on there. But all in all as parents, it's our job to pay attention to this information. To learn about it as the best we can and help our kids, make good choices and make good healthy choices for

What scientists call a light curve, and you horizons principal investigator Allen stern from the southwest research institute says ultima Thule slight curve is tiny and a real puzzle.
