"And especially when compared with the success attributed to gates at Saratoga wage. I suppose it's understandable that government leaders might want to at least consider their options the namesake of the cabal General Conway was of course only looked get promoted to Major General a goal which he achieved. Let's face it. You don't get to be a general without some ability at self-promotion. Of course when you push too hard if she can come back to bite you after Conway shot off his mouth about Washington someone literally shot him in the mouth. Following the collapse of the cabal more sensible generals like Horatio Gates kept their mouths shut about Washington and quietly waited for other opportunities to present themselves off General Conway did finally returned to France after his duel, although he had been a colonel in France. He continued to rise in rank in the French army after his return from America, but eventually reaching the rank of major-general in the French army as well. He also eventually served as governor of France's colonies in India. Not too shabby for an Irishman. Unfortunately things did not end happily for Conway during the French Revolution Conway maintain his loyalty to the king and eventually had to flee from France in order to avoid execution as a counter-revolutionary. Ironically Conway who had spent his entire life fighting the British returned to Britain and fought under the British against the Revolutionary government in France off eventually his life went full circle and General Conway retired to his native Ireland. He fell Into Obscurity in Ireland but is believed to have died around 1,800 at the age of 65. If you want to read more about the cabal there is a book on just that topic that came out last year 2019. It's called off all the plot against General Washington by Mark Edward lender. This is a really in-depth look at the events of late 1777 and early 1778 when command of Washington's Army was really at risk. The book is nearly four hundred pages long and is a really careful investigation of the efforts to replace Washington the author Mark lender retired from a long career in Academia, but continues to write books. He's also a contributor to the Journal of the American Revolution. If you don't want to read the whole book on the topic, you might want to try my home line recommendation this week shortly after doctor lender released his book on the cabal. He sat down with Brady kreitzer on his podcast dispatches, which is a if we ended with the Journal of the American Revolution lender and Chrysler had a great 50 minute conversation about the events of the Conway cabal, which he released as an episode on a dispatch is podcast. I'll be on this one episode. I can't say enough good things about the dispatches podcast. I've recommended it more generally in an earlier episode. One reason I've actually been reluctant to start doing Special interview episodes myself is because Brady creates are already does such an amazing job doing this very thing if I have not tried his podcast you may want to do so, of course as always I have links to both the book and the podcast episode on my website and the blog at block off amref podcast.com. Well, that's all for this week. I hope you will join me again next week for another American Revolution podcast off..

"And once again agreed to a duel this time, they actually went through with it firing three rounds at each other without any hits before they decide that their honor had been satisfied most of the public blame for the effort to unseat Washington fell on General Conway, officially Conway continued to serve as inspector-general, although he really did not have much to do in that position Congress tried to transfer him to a position in the Hudson Valley where he would be out of the action save the appointment correctly as political Exile and realizing that he was pretty well isolated and hated by most of his fellow officers under Washington's command Conway. Once again submitted an offer of resignation to Congress in March 1778. This time Congress accepted after resigning Conway did not return to France dead. Instead he spent his time criticizing Washington and trying to justify his actions later that summer one of Washington's supporters, Philadelphia. Militia General John Cadwallader challenged Conway to a duel in Philadelphia at the Dual Cadwallader shot Conway in the mouth cadwalader's only comment upon schuberth Conway was I've stopped that damn Rascals tongue. Anyway believing that he was about to die Conway wrote a letter of apology to Washington calling him as a great and good man Conway. However did not die but did decide it was time to return to France where he rejoined the French army Washington came out of this whole incident much stronger talking Congress of replacing the commander never again approached anything serious Those who had opposed Washington muted their complaints and tried to minimize or deny their past opposition to his leadership next week. I want to cover some other incidents happen around this same time that Washington was fighting for his political and Military survival. His army was fighting for its own Survival during the winter had Valley Forge. Hi, thanks for joining the American Revolution podcast after show. Thanks as always to train aunts and George Davis as Alexander Hamilton club supporters on patreon. I also wanted to thank Jason patriot who is already a standard-bearer supporter on patreon, but who also made a generous one-time contribution a PayPal. I very much appreciate the support this week. I covered the Conway cabal, which as I said in the main show was not really a conspiracy facts was more of a disjointed and uncoordinated effort to replace Washington as commander-in-chief. It didn't even become known as a cabal until decades after these events occurred when historians gave that name to the events. It's Not Unusual for lower officers to think they can do a better job than the current commander on the British side, I've already discussed how generals how Clinton and Burgoyne expressed or implied such attitudes against their commanders given Washington's limited Military success.

"He knew that any couple of power-play opposing the Inspector General or the board of war or any of their plans with just play into the hands of his enemies and convince people that he was a danger to civilian rule instead Washington just through the whole thing back at Congress. He despatched the correspondence that had gone between himself and General Conway as well as correspondence with General Gates dead. Out the revelation of Conway's comments to him and sending this information to Congress. He said the following quote if General Conway means by cool receptions that I did not receive him in the language of a warm and cordial friend. I readily confessed the charge. My feelings will not permit me to make professions of friendship to a man ID My Enemy at the same time truth authorizes me to say that he was received and treated with proper respect to his official character and that he has no cause to justify the assertion that he could not expect any support for fulfilling the duties of his appointment. So Washington found that while he had his critics in Congress, he also had supporters and one of those key supporters was the new president of Congress Henry Lawrence. Communications with his son John Laurens who was serving as Washington's aide-de-camp held president Lawrence to appreciate everything Washington was doing and thought he was going through following Washington's letters came on Memorial sent by 9:00 Continental brigadiers who objected to General Conway being promoted over them just as Washington predicted in addition a group of Colonels protested Wilkinson's brevet to Brigadier over more senior kernels with more command experience saying the strong objections from the military leadership and also after reviewing the correspondence that made Gates Conway and Wilkinson all look, like fools any support for replacing General Washington office quickly evaporated Gates and Conway both testified before Congress, but gave a poor performance the Marquis De Lafayette took it upon himself to speak on behalf of birth. France before Congress. He said that the French viewed Washington and the revolution as one in the same. They could not conceive of another General taking command numerous other Continental officers also sent letters to Congress confirming that Washington had their full faith and support as commander-in-chief with Washington's role as Commander. Now firmly re-established everyone tried to make nice again.

"Hello, and thank you for joining the American Revolution today episode 171 the Conway cabal following the victory at Saratoga National ratio Gates was the toast of America the surrender of General. Burgoyne's Army was an unprecedented event gates had long thought that he was a better General than in Washington and had a history of looking for an opportunity to replace him as Commander in Chief in late 1777 with Gates credited with the victory at Saratoga and Washington losing Philadelphia to General how many others started to think that maybe Gates could be a better Commander the Conway cabal is the name given to a Loosely defined group of leaders in Congress and in the military who made some efforts to replace Washington with Gates as commander of the Continental Carmie Thomas Conway who is the title conspirator in this matter is probably not even the leading figure in the events that unfolded but he does play a role in these events. I've already introduced Conway as one of many French officers who arrived in Philadelphia in 1777 with Commissions in hand to become General in the Continental Army, although born in Ireland Conway moved to France at age six and became a lieutenant in the Irish Brigade of the French army age fourteen over the next Seventeen years. He served as a capable officer, but remained a lieutenant even through his service in Europe during the Seven Years War Iraq after the war ended Conway began to find his way up the promotion ladder finally making captain in 1765 then major and finally colonel in 17 dead. Me to Conway learned the political game of flattering superiors and making the right contacts to get ahead in the Army sing an opportunity for advancement in the revolution. He got a promised commission from Silas Deane and left for America in December. 1776. Congress gave him a commission as a brigadier General in May 1777 and Conway served as a brigadier commander in Washington's Army Conway seems to have impressed himself at the Battle of Brandywine based off his service there. He requested that Congress promote him to Major General Washington objected to the promotion in a letter to delegate Richard Henry Lee Washington wrote quote General Conway's Merit then as an officer and his importance in the Army exists more in his own imagination than in reality job. Washington pointed out that Conway's promotion over more senior brigadiers who had also performed well in recent battles would lead to more dissension among the military leadership off earlier Washington had endorsed Conway's commission as a brigadier. So this was a very different attitude. He was showing Washington's reluctance to support Conway's bid off promotion led to a tiff between these two leaders with Washington appearing to be an impediment to his advancement Conway opted to reach out to General Gates wage star was on the rise after Saratoga in early November 1777 weren't reached Washington that Conway had written a letter to Gates saying quote Heaven has been determined to save your country or a week General and bad counselors would have ruined it now. It doesn't take much imagination to realize that the dog We General was an obvious reference to General Washington when Washington received the note. He sent it along to Conway noting the quote Conway denied that he had ever used the term week General but did not shy away from the fact that he was critical of Washington's leadership..

"All right. Welcome back. It is Vegas tape sharpened Shapiro. Glad you could join us on a very busy Wednesday. Coming up here in a few minutes. We'll be joined by desert Read Francoise. She is the athletic director for you. And all the talk over talk precautions. Talk about an exciting upcoming UNLV football season. But right now joining us in studio is Jason Steinar, producer. My understanding is that there were two cat fights. We're talking about one between. Ah, well, I guess 11 between Ah Melania Trump and Stormy Daniels, the porn star and exactly what was the other cat fight? Let's start with the other cat fight first. Oh, yeah. You're talking about the Kellyanne Conway Kellyanne Conway, The teenage daughter of Ah, of what? I'm confused on names that Claudia Conway is the teenage daughter of Kelly Ann Conway. Yes, Who's an advisor to the president? Of course, And this is not the first time this has flared up in the public. But this this Claudia Conway likes to go on Tick tock. Like a lot of the kids do and he likes to publicly embarrass her mother and the latest round of embarrassment, I guess centered on Trump's Covad diagnosis and then Kellyanne Conway, I guess tested positive caresses. Her daughter went on the talk to kinda to call out her mother and then the called Trump. And to insinuate that Trump is sicker than he's letting on. And all that. And so are 15 year old daughter. Her 15 year old knows this before. Yes, Like I said, Who is this caused her mother headaches before? Well, she went live on the tic tac. And on the old time her mother, Kellyanne Conway was right there in the bedroom, and the whole thing was caught on video. Leo. And we have, like 30. Seconds of how that's his price. All that sound of you like that. You like that noise. I'm here and my mom had three time doing it right now. Do it now. Testing immediately. Um, I didn't. I guess I misinterpreted it. You guess you misinterpreted it. You guess you misinterpreted it. You said it was negative. So I spent the day with you and me. I got that. What you cause so much disruption disruption. We lied about your mother about Koven. No, Mama. How I miss redid it. You're taping me again. That's exactly right. You know, you know what that's not worst, and so by the way, also That sounds like fights. I used to hear between my mother and my sister. I mean, it's very typical, right. It's just that most people when mothers and daughters fight like that doesn't get broadcast. It doesn't get recorded. And I'm gonna tell you right now, In 2020 years, I'm going to be voting for Claudia for president of the United States. So anyway, my mother, Claudia lied, she said. Donald Trump literally is not OK. They're trying to stabilize yourself. And and she was 20 was trending on. Twitter. People were calling her an American, an American treasures of pitchers protect. She's a patriot. She actually she spoke in pig, Latin and pig and in pig Latin, she said. My mother is going to send me to child protective services, or she's going to send me away or something along those lines and and the liberals and the liberal media. Is so literally insane that they think that Claudia Conway, this 15 year old girl is actually telling them the truth about Donald Trump's health. Well, I mean, she's privy just some conversation. Listen, listen, Stein Yes, four day, by the way, Stein. If you can wear a mag a hat and be called a patriot. I think Claudia's a patriot, So she's a patriot and four By the way, it must be hell living in that house. Good. You have Kellyanne Conway. And then George conned her father Lincoln Project Who's against Donald Trump's Anyway? Its extremes like a very lovely foot. Does a footnote to that guy's real quick statement That was on Claudia's account today, said she was sorry for the uproar under Tick tack, but posts It was on her intent to mislead unclear on that she had to clarify it was she had no special insight into Trump's health. She further explained the Kellyanne Conway didn't lie about testing positive and announced she, Claudia would be taking a break from Social media while the family was in quarantine and translation. Of course I'm grounded. Let's move onto it course. Let's let's move on. Thank God for that. Thank God for that result. Okay, So let's move on to a story that I find even more. Ah. Entertaining And that is a cat fight between the first lady Melania Trump and porn star Storming out is by the way, I think they both have a lot in common. By the way, I'll get to that a little bit later. But go ahead, Stein. Yeah, well, Melania Trump you remember there's this woman Stephanie walk off. This is Melania's best friend and she recorded secret conversations with Melania. And then she wrote this Tell all book And so the tapes have been leaking out over the past week or so. There was one ah, piece of audio where Melania said eff Christmas But anyway, But this latest one she goes after stormy Daniels. Of course, who it can even say allegedly had sex with President Trump at this point is that alleged thing you could say, allegedly raw dog. You could say that as well. But I'm really not sure. So anyway. So that's exactly when the first lady back in 2018 on these recordings. Venting to her best friend, about one Porn star Stormy Daniels any legally the porn Hooker.

"Welcome everybody to another episode of the PODCAST. I am super pumped today. For quite a few different reasons on some of the topics that I'm gonNA. Get to talk about today. Definitely on the character of the person that if you're watching on video, you're already looking at but every once in a while I'll just get fortunate enough to to interview somebody that I have been following an admiring for a specific period of time, and so that happens to be this gentleman on the other end of the line this. Is Adrian Conway a? He is an elite cross fit? FIT Games, athlete is one team championships. He's competed at the highest of levels in into as an individual athlete. He's a partner in a very well known supplement. Company is a coach for brute strength If you are not across fitter in that world, you have no idea what the heck I'm talking about but beyond that and more importantly I followed Adrian and seen him as a very committed dedicated husband and father, and said those are the things that I admire most as I'm a really looking at people and their drive for success and with that Adrian. Thanks man so much appreciate having you. Ryan I appreciate you being on, man I you know it's a very humble introduction, so I appreciate it of course. and. I've done a little bit of research on you as well and I'm honored that you would have me on this against. Thank you want we'll see what you say at the end. Okay so true. That's true. So I do want to dig right. And because I think this is super important, so you are are running a probably as I would assume full steam and a variety of areas, so you are an elite coach to some very high performing athletes, you are running a successful business in the nutrition space. Supplements which will get into your husband, father and I'm sure there's so much more behind that. So where did that desire for achievement excellence success? However you WanNa say that like. Where did that desire for start for you? So for me. This takes me back a little bit of ways. There's some there's some background there that I've got a dive into and you know. Initially. My story started as. A A small kid in a in a small town. That had big rations of being a professional athlete and. I was fortunate enough to have the focus and mentality to really be. kind of singular minded. Where that's not calm and young individuals. But I had a kind of like. Influences his from both parents, and from you know I come from kind of a split family so I had influences. From from both families, my entire life, I moved all around the United States and I was always very aware from about the time I was I. don't know eight years old that that I certainly was not a big fish in the small pond that was more so a small fish in a big and what that did is create a lot of perspective from. Knowing that like whatever it is that I wanted to do whether it was great academically or athletically, or you know. I grew into an adult more of a business or entrepreneur focused that I needed to really be able to double down and put forth my maximal effort maximum attention on whatever given tests that is so. My dream started early, clearly wanting to be a professional athlete and I tried to align everything in my life in order to achieve that of course I'm sitting here on this podcast today. Not with an NFL resume at all, but more with a competitive exercise resume that most people know me for. Or they don't know me from that. They a lot of times know me from teaching level ones for cross-stitch Q.. Or coaching within the confines of Jim but I've always been extremely motivated just to be the best at whatever I'm passionate about Ryan, so it's like you know that transition from professional athletics. God Willing took.

"The I heart radio app this the Tim Conway judicial Kelly in for ten the twenty is almost here and of course with every new year we have to talk about some of the new laws which are going to impact you and me okay alright here we go here we can we have this discussion already yes we did and we ended it and I was right we just leave it at that in twenty twenty Michael closure yes Sir it's gonna be a lot of changes across guns healthcare education gonna go through a little bit of everything including criminal justice let's start with guns employers co workers and teachers will be able to ask for a gun violence restraining order against a person beginning in September no longer leaving the gun seizures only to families and law enforcement let me give you some more specifics if a judge agrees one your gun seizures from those who are thought to pose a danger to themselves or others could be extended annually for up to five years that you may remember only Californians age twenty one or over will be able to buy a semi automatic rifle and starting in twenty twenty one all Californians will be limited to buying one of the rifles per month in addition a person banned from having a gun in another state can no longer legally possess one in California I'm quite sure that's all going to inspire all sorts of debate in the new year I'm just letting you know it's coming it's here it's the law in California starting twenty twenty in health care state officials will create a new standardized form doctors will fill out for parents who want a medical exemption from vaccinations for their children doctors will be required to use that form and parents must submit existing exemptions to the state in twenty twenty one doctors with five or more exemptions written after January first of twenty twenty as in you know soon as the new year starts will have their actions reviewed by the state so they can't just do it **** nilly they can't do it for anyone and everyone there will be a numerical also a ceiling on what they can do or they will come up for review as far as birth control women seeking birth control pills through apps such as the one offered by plant Planned Parenthood will no longer have to participate in video conferencing with a health professional for a prescription I'm not sure what that means that you don't have to get a writ prescription or you just don't have to participate in the video conferencing or both that kinda reads funny food handlers will be required to take training on major food based allergens those who seek a state issued for hammer card will have until the end of next year as in twenty twenty to do so the law was prompted by the case of a Sacramento area girl whose peanut allergy unfortunately led to her death at a summer camp back in twenty thirteen in the field of education still school districts will have more power over the creation of new charter schools in their communities and new teachers at these charter schools will be required to hold the same credentials as those in traditional public schools here to for you may remember that some teachers and charter schools no right or wrong they did not have the same credentials in many times it was easier to get a job at a charter school as opposed to a traditional school within the school district and with the requirement being phased in over five years for existing teachers so another words if you are already a teacher at a charter school you too will have to come up to speed as it were and get the requisite credentials to remain in your position children whose parents have unpaid school lunch bills won't be denied access to at least an alternate meal selection and can't be shamed or treated differently than other students I'm not exactly sure how they're going to enforce that is far shaming are treated differently students up to fifth grade can't be suspended for disrupting school activities or willful defiance effective with the school year that begins in August let's stop right there I'm going to say that again students up to fifth grade can't be suspended for disrupting school activities or willful defiance I don't understand that and I say that as a kid who suspended prior to fifth grade I don't understand what then are you supposed to do with the student who was willfully disruptive defiant in a classroom environment are you supposed to keep the child very supposed to keep the child in the office for the whole day you can't send them home you can't send her home what are you supposed to do I understand why they want to try to do this and as the child of two educators I just don't see what the alternative is or how this actually addresses the problem or lessons it sixth seventh and eighth graders will also be protected from such suspensions for the next five years what are we supposed to do with these bad **** kids then you can't suspend them I understand where you might make the argument that you can't expel them because they need to be in an education environment but there has to be some sort some sort of response if you will some sort of consequence two students were acting out so if you're not going to spend on it what are you gonna do you just gonna leave many environment still throwing rocks at the teacher stills throwing a spinning spit balls at the teacher and we see in the videos of how it has gotten violent in many schools between students and teachers on the grade school level if you're not going to suspend them what tools then are available for teachers and administrators to not only protect the teachers but to protect other students this is going to backfire and they're gonna be a lot of incidents which we're going to have to talk about here on KFI and beyond in California for the year twenty twenty on the job business is planning to use independent contractors will be subject to new restrictions on the situations in which they can do so and more those workers will now be considered employees this is a direct result of that uber lawsuit is far as with the going to be ten ninety nine contract employees a weather going to be actual full W. nine employees the minimum wage as we were kind of alluding to when we're talking about homelessness earlier the minimum wage in California goes up by a dollar large employers must pay at least thirteen dollars an hour while businesses with twenty five or fewer workers can pay twelve dollars an hour the minimum wage will peak at fifteen dollars an hour in twenty twenty three in that time hopefully you can get a better job than minimum wage employers can no longer require current or new workers to agree to arbitration as a condition of having a job loss currently being challenged in court by the California chamber of commerce California to take out payday or installment loans of twenty five hundred to ten thousand dollars will see interest rates capped at no more than thirty six percent thank goodness because that was ridiculous thirty six percent is ridiculous even twenty nine percent on credit cards is ridiculous but you know if you're in a desperate spot and you're taking out a loan and they're going to charge you upwards of forty percent or more you'll never pay that loan back because you're already in financial dire straits but that's the whole point that's how they get you and that's how they keep you that's also compared to the much higher rates some of these consumers often with few other ways of borrowing money have paid in the past that's how they end up with these payday loans because banks more times than not won't even loaned them the records of money that they need to get out of that specific situation be a short term or long term and also food service workers must wear gloves made of something other than latex which causes allergic reactions in some customers what is supposed to wear like leather leather gloves then we're like I don't know what it what is the meat of concrete what other gloves can you wear them like latex as far as handling food Michael closure I'm trying to think well on paper mache they don't all have to be latex do that give it some growth are not latex because of HRG Robert yeah than rubber rubber a thin rubber okay maybe that's it then this seems like I are both rubber with you Mike is more porous in nature item now it's time I'm not going to wash your hands yeah that too that too but I would rather have gloves on the hands you could you wash your hands then pick you know that if you come back all right me you can do that no no no no no up one day outside the store my wife used to work for a business which will go from restaurant and restaurant to tell them how to get the requisite make make the requisite changes to the get that a in the window right and tell em this is against the law you can't do that you can't have food on the floor you're supposed to have you got the the workers were this that the other and so forth all the stories all my goodness you don't want to know what goes on a restaurant you just don't want to now yeah because you won't be able to eat there anymore more on the new laws in changes which are coming to California when we come back this is the ten come we junior show well Kelly here KFI am six forty Michael close with the news LA metro Orange County transit Long Beach transit are all offering free rides for new year's eve a federal court says it's going to block a Republican proposal requiring photo ID's to vote in North Carolina and Heineken giving away free.

"AM and six forty Conway show. Angels been talking about this accident all night on the ten injured where abouts is that exit. So it's a Monterey park. And it's along the ten freeway westbound it's just before the seven ten freeway so just east of downtown, Los Angeles. Oh, wow. That's that's where that crazy. Mcdonald's is like a two story. Mcdonald's among the south side of that ten freeway. Oh, oh, yeah. Drive-thrus weird. It's like on the basement they have to bring the food down to the basement to give it to you. That's weird. But it looks like a again, I don't know what happened. Let me guess guy. Texting rear ends a bus like possibly stalled out bus in the express lane. Some car comes hauling up behind it and plows right into the bay about caught fire. Anyone get injured or hurt or killed? I was just listening to the report, and they said that they took one person away out of the car, but nobody else. And so I don't know how many people were in in the car that struck the bus if there was just one or if he had passengers or or what? But it does not look good is the backup all the way to downtown. It's actually heading to downtown. So the backup is from Garfield. Always this is an accident heading westbound. I'm sorry. Westbound ten heading towards downtown that there there is slowing on the eastbound side and smell quite backed up to downtown at some slow moving away from the seven ten so it's not that bad east or west of the seven ten this. The crash is to the east of the seven ten. Okay. So if you're on the seven ten northbound from the five you can go westbound on the town with no trouble. Yes. Okay. All right. It's long as you're on the other side of the seven. That's exactly correct. But you know, what the the seven.
