"Francisco These sports leader Talking. Niners free agency. With Matt Barrows of the athletic No news on trick Williams as of yet, fellas, because we Were busy talking about other subjects yesterday. I thought a couple of things that we didn't get to and We can jump on them and go in different directions. The players the golf tournament, how that finished And or the sheer tonnage of money that Bill Belichick spent and free agency yesterday and counting, I guess I wouldn't mind going down. We won't talk about it at all to get back. We're gonna wait for the wheel to stop again. Forget that. Get out here. Well, okay. Crazy bounces weekend. I mean that you have you seen a golfer play? That way Thursday, Friday and then just come alive over the weekend. I mean, Justin Thomas on Saturday and Sunday. My goodness, he was terrific. It was really good. I mean, he was so dialed in on Sunday and then God, Westwood was just fighting it the whole day, Just fighting it, And it's funny. There's I don't know what the phenomenon is. But when guys get older and girls I I should say athletes because it doesn't matter what gender When they get older, you just root for they didn't even matter. You could have been the biggest a hole for your whole career. And then they people like you know what he didn't loaded. Let's root for him. Example. One exhibit a Jimmy Connors. Jimmy Connors was in a tourist a hole at the end of his career. Every room for a loved US Open, right? Yeah, look at him. It's like, you know, it just doesn't matter. You get a little older and people like Let's reform reform. And the fact that Westwood has a one, You know, Big one. Are you just gonna guy two weeks in a row, and he's right in it, and then he just could not. He could not find it on on Sunday, man, it was. The drives were all over the place, and he just could not find the fairway Ugo. The parts were missing just by a little bit. It's classic. When he was out of it. He finally made one on 18. But Justin Thomas was just incredible. Absolutely incredible. But I wanted to see I wanted to see West would win. I was like, Got to be nice is to see you get one. You know, one like, uh, give golf's fifth majors. What they what they call it, but he just couldn't And Justin Thomas, just pumping him down the fairway three bills and then drilling his irons and just barely missing putts. And he finally started making putts. Anyone I think pretty pretty eagle. To start the backside. And he was, Yeah, he was really, really good. And then watching his playing partner game you're like, Ooh! Nothing worth watching a gulf. We're just Scuffle, and we just You know, Pop went into the water. Drop it pop another one of the wires like man that just it's just a rough thing. Mank. There's no nobody else to pass the ball to not like you. You take the next shot. No. Up your ball hit another one, everyone I'm watching. I'm watching it Friday and they were the announcers. Guys were talking about Thomas like Like he was not like he was headed home. Like you know, he he, you know, he wasn't gonna make the cut, You know, And they were. They were having conversations about of disappointing. His first two rounds were and then. Unbelievable. I mean, what he did over the weekend and then I don't know to me it was watching. I can't stop watching T shambo. I mean, and then, um And when he went into the water on that on that one hole You know, I mean, it's just unbelievable that he's you know, D shambo to me is he went that way with his double bogey, and that was it for him. Basically, that was kind of checked out. And then Westwood kind of Chuck that checked out with the With the bogey in the par 3/17 with the three putt that that was That was crusher. Yeah, that part was so So brutal. I mean, that's exact pin placement that we played when I played there. And it's just it's tough. I mean, it's just so fast going and I wouldn't that fast. We play because his guys, you just you couldn't stop it and you had to get it. To the hole on the left side before broke, right. And you had to hit it with a certain amount of speed to get to that point. But when you did, then it carried a little bit too much momentum going toward the hole. So if he didn't make it You just could not stop it in front of the whole it was going to go. Some of them went five ft. Buys and then went eight ft. A fee by and I remember that ridge. It's just It's like, Oh, man, and I can't. I can't imagine putting You know, under that type of pressure when you just know you can't stop it. There's nothing worse than a part when you're above the hole. And you know you can't see did you just can't stop it? It It is, In fact, what? I poet Geoffrey. Couple weeks ago in Vegas. There was a hole. I didn't even you know, He didn't know one of these holes, but I was above the pin. It was about a five footer. And I knew if I didn't make it, I just You're gonna have a 10 footer coming back. It's been paralyzed this year. I didn't make it and I had a 10 footer coming back. And I was like, just sucks, man, because you like it. Usually you're like, OK, but don't make it. You have to put heard, you know of tapping. But when you're up against a putt, and you know You're gonna have a 10 footer. Come back. It's like it sucks. And these guys really knew they knew they'd have a finalist of five footer. There's no way you're gonna have inside five ft. And this is like they're putting from 50. So the chance of making it are you? No 1%. Maybe 2% It just I don't know how those guys do it, man. My nerves be frayed. Just completely afraid. Haven't I mean the good luck? They're pros. That's what they do. They're great at it. I understand. But Wolf And some of those things you look at, and there's no margin. There's no margin from I mean that, but there wasn't no no. What about Justin Thomas's five wood on 18? You kidding me? That stay up, but there were no right to stay up and it did stay up and he even know what he got away with one because he was way closer to the water than he wanted to be, and ended up being a perfect shot. But it's still perfect shot because the first kick he got was a was a great Great kick butt. Yeah, it's fun. It's fun. It's Especially fun for me because I remember some of those holes. The one thing I don't think they had again. 17 was the same pin place when we played it. But the one thing about Sawgrass you watching on Sunday every pin. His next to the water. Just everyone. It's like you want to go for the pin. Go ahead. You miss it to the wrong side. Ty risk high reward. You're gonna be with shambo on that fourth hole he go. You know he goes into the water and then you know, he's like I've never hit a ball like that, he said. You can hear himself, saying that to the caddy. And then he winds up double bogeying. I mean that I mean, these guys are good enough to get by that, but you know, there's not a lot of margin for air..

They're drafting tents. Sigmund boom from football guys is eleven, and then Ryan Pool and Lou tranquillity who have divvied up nine main event and FCC and dynasty titles among them as well. They are in the twelfth spot tonight, Dave. This is a heavy hitting show. Show not only for the pros, but for the as well. Yeah, this saw man, that's why a huge read our full. These accolades and accomplishments, and it is something else I'm really excited to see these guys draft You know it'd be nice. Actually Mall draft live next week, so let's see sigmund bloom talking to Lutheran croly. That'd be a fun conversation. Yes, it would. yeah, and then Mallon and burrows. There would be next week as well so it'd be a good draft. I'm excited. See what happens. I am as well and I'd be more excited if I could get the now. The Stream is not working right now on Youtube, so if you are following on that, I'll get that up momentarily, Dave. How far into the draft are we right now? Just wait a second. Wait a second. Oh my goodness, who to tennis? Okay? I think I got it fixed now. Sorry about that ladies and Gentlemen I. Do not know what happened. What we're GONNA. Fix It. Better first night it's been three, hundred, seventy, nine, seventy, two, hundred and fifty days or so since I'll, I'll ask one of these well. No, because we broadcast the The genesis revelations and apocalypse drafts a couple of months ago, so I should be in in midseason Heidar trying to cover. Let's go through it. ladies gentlemen now that the Stream is up Christian McCaffrey number one to Scott angled followed by Alvin Kamera a little bit of a shocker there to Jimmy Wagner. saquon Barkley falls to Bob, long at the third spot Ezekiel Elliott right after. After that you Tom Greenwald, and then you have Dolphin Cook. We were wondering you know with the news coming out. He's GonNa Report then then Dalvand Cook and his agents said well. We never said that Dalvin cooked goes number, five pat storm, and no fear there. He takes Dalvin Cook their country and John Anderson at the six spot I. Receiver off the Board Michael. Michael Thomas then miles sanders to Richard Mellon by the way Michael. Thomas went to Addison Hayes Mile. Standards to Richard Mellon Kenyan drake goes to todd boroughs, and then back to back tight end Zimmer and Stewart take travelers. Kelsey Sigma boom takes George biddle. See Minimum always seems to take a tight end in the first-round processes Joe's, doesn't he? It seems he goes he always. Always started on and then Josh Jacobs to pool and tranquility, so let's just talk about the The the I guess the big surprise for me in the first round Kamera over Barkley I like Alvin Kamara this year. In fact, I've been drafting him over Ezekiel Elliott. Don't think I could take him over Saquon Barkley although you could probably make a case for it. I mean he has to really be that the main guy the hallway through and I. Mean you still have this Murray there? There's he doesn't using yeah I I would have to go with more vote. Total fold fulltime running back the saints still split. There carries enough that there's too much fear their take on number. Two I think I would've taken Barkley there as well, but I. Maybe we'll hear from Jimmy Way. I guarantee you that we don't hear from tonight. This will be a question on the high stakes. Elliott Yo you. You pass him for Alvin. Kamara and the reason for that is is I. Believe Kamera was playing hurt quite a bit last year which I think I don't know if anybody would disagree with me on that based on the reports that come out he's still was pretty good. Latavius marine to me is just a guy he's all right. and he's a great start when cameras out. Out and then you look at Elliot, how many people we had come on the HSF our and talk about how they felt like you could see that Eliot had peaked, and maybe declining a little bit already last season, and what happens Mike, McCarthy comes in. They see lamb. They can have that Prescott airing it out to those three receivers so I I question whether we saw. We've already seen peak Elliott, and we haven't seen Pizza Mary yet. And that is my reasoning around that said Dave I would still take Elliott over Delvin Cook for what it's worth all right moving on to the second round Joe Mix into pool and tranquillity at the to a one followed by nick. troub- TO SIGMUND BLOOM. A trill of receivers here right after that Davante Adams to Zimmer and seward tyreek hill to todd boroughs and then Julio Jones to Richard Alan Austin. Third running back running back off the board to Addison Hayes here in the second round Chris Godwin. John Anderson then we see Aaron Jones go to Pat Gorman as his second running back. The Andrea Hopkins falls to the two nine right here, Hopkins to Tom Greenwald Leonard. Fournette to Bob Lung here at the to ten then James Connor. Jimmy Wagner takes him at the to eleven. I quarterback comes off the board at the end of the second round in Lamar Jackson and I'm actually just looking here with with ADP. We'll get this up and and going and break the second round down here shortly, but before we do that. I do WANNA. Go to the phone lines right now to seven one eight. You're on the air with Dave and bulky. Who is this? Hey. This is Scott Engel all you. Scott good to hear from you man. Of course Scott Engel the king from row baller drafting from the one spot tonight. No question you're gonNA. Take McCaffrey there. Talk a little bit about that Lamar Jackson, pick with the last pick of the second round drafting the first quarterback off the board tonight. Yeah! I'm big Lamar Jackson. I actually have Greg's of eighth overall fellas and thanks for having me tonight To Me Jackson he's the most unique player and actually not only fantasy football right now, but fantasy football history, you know I, think the the group thing with a lot of people in fantasy football and a lot of people I, respect is a on a quarterback be..

"It's been a little while since you and I got caught up, but you and Brett ed busted out with your own podcast called advantage connors Jimmy at this point in your life. You can do whatever the hell you want. Why did you want to jump into this space? And what are you looking to do with your platform Jimmy? Jim. Thanks for bringing that up I. It's I. I've always. Kinda wanted to to do something and on the radio or You know to have a voice and talk about tennis, and you know a lot of a lot of. Things that go on over the course of not only my day, but everybody's Day and And bread and I were sitting around I guess a bread. Correct me if I'm wrong I think it was during the Australian Open and all of a sudden, he says you know. Why don't we sit down and talk a little bit about you know? Gambling and which is started to come into tennis now a little bit and talk. Talk about the Australian Open and the odds and who thinks going to win. WHO's a dark horse? And you know so? We we kind of sat down and talked about it and filmed it a little bit and you know came up with You know a a pretty good project so You know it's fun. It's fun for me, but To do, but it's more fun than I get to do with Brad. and and He's on his own down in San in Santa Monica and and you know I. Don't get the same as much as I'd like. And this is of brought us together a little bit more and you know so I can know see him, and and also you know. Hear his views because you know his time around tennis with. His businesses in production and in for tennis and. He watches more tennis than anybody, so he kind of keeps me up the day. When I'm falling behind you, Brent, let me let me just jump in. Brian I gotta ask you because I want to know what it was like not only growing up with Jimmy Connors is your dad, but Illionis dossiers your godfather, because it sounds cool shit, was it? Oh Yeah I mean definitely cool. You know I. Think everybody knows those guys for all their antics on the court. And then the personality and the bad boy stuff, but you know to me growing up, he was just dad. He's just just my pops. And then that was just uncle nasty and I didn't even know why you know. His name was uncle nasty. That was a little bit older. but yeah man I mean it's just It was great I. I had a know kind of a privileged childhood growing up around all those guys able to travel and be a part of the tour. And have that during my upbringing and I think you know it's benefited me and my career and doing stuff in tennis production. You know being able to do this with POPs. It's been really cool just because you know he's. Kinda got the the old school on lockdown. And you know he knows all the old players, and the old styles and everything, and then I'm able to kind of you know, bring that. Bring the new school and a little bit of what's going on today I think it's a good mix, not love this Jimmy I want to I, don't want this loses point because I think that when you say what you said about Brad. I get this because. A couple of teenage sons right now and I literally can't wait until they're old enough for me to throw back a couple with them because I know it's going to be a great time now. The bread is a little bit older. What's it like to hang with him and then to collaborate on a project like this with your son? You know, hang on. I'm learning things. you know I'm I'm I've been kind of away for a while Jim and and you know to to get back into it and. You know get the feel of You know really a not not only just tennis, but you know the way things really are and and I I've kind of kept mostly to myself over the last number of years and enjoyed that, but you know hanging with Brad than you know. I I I'm I'm not afraid to say bridge forty, and and you know time a hey, that's okay, you know. Time has passed very quickly and. For me I I look back. And I was traveling an awful lot while he was growing up. And even though my family was able to come with me quite a bit I certainly did miss a little bit or along the way, and and so catching up and figure in a lot of things out you know from now from then until now has been great, but you know Brett is He's Modern Day and in more things than just tennis, and and You know to to sit down and into talk with him, and and to get his views, and you know, get a different perspective in a in a different understanding of you know the way a lot of things are, and so as you know, it's good for me because he keeps me up to date, and you know it's my mind sharp, and you know with being under quarantine. That's an important thing to try to find a way to keep busy and he certainly has kept me busy. I can tell the affinity in the love and respect. You guys have for each other. It's very obvious like Brett. One of my favorite topics is this. Notion of nature versus nurture like you said you had kind of a privileged upbringing POPs came up gritty e Saint Louis I'm kind of curious like your dad like Jimmy was running on some crazy rocket fuel his whole career like. If you could bottle that stuff, it'd be the best thing ever. Jimmy was so fierce I'm kind of curious we do you think that's nature or nurture for instance when you came out? We you hardwired the same way. How much of that breadth environment and culture like? Do you have that same fire in your gut that he did? Yeah I mean I definitely think I have some that in me. I'm super competitive anything. I do I. Mean I grew up playing golf and tennis when I was younger. But I think I'd have to say. Maybe it's a little more environment..

"Men's doubles players in the world winning thirty six doubles titles during his career he he won six Grand Slam. Titles to Wimbledon Men's titles to US Open titles and the French and Wimbledon mixed doubles championship and his primary partner was Robertson Guzzo. He he also teamed though with Rick Leach and he won the gold medal at the Seoul Olympic. How old were you the first time you picked up a tennis racket I believe I was six six years old. Take my my older brother who rick who was ten years older than me started playing tennis Much to my father's Chagrin He thought you know well. There you go a sign. I guess you know by skirt now. And you're GONNA go play that game of tennis you know and dropped Baseball and football and sports that my dad really wanted him to play And then you know rick started doing pretty good in high school. Tennis and my dad would watch from faraway trying not to act act like he was interested in the game but then he find you know I think he found that the game actually. He founded appreciation for the game and physical. It was and how difficult it was and so then he's like all right junior you know. Let's go so he started taking me out and throw me balls When I was about six what are the challenges of following an older brother? Who's playing the same sport? Where did you do well? The challenge is to make sure you do better than they did. I kicked his ass but So you know. I think rick kind of paved the way Got It started we weren't we. Were definitely a baseball football soccer type. Family Family So venturing into the world of tennis was new to US and rick was kind of the you know the the the the groundbreaker and and The Guinea pig so to speak in that regard then when I came along because Rick didn't start planning to thirteen or fourteen assist too late and tennis So kind of paved the way for me to get going into early age the right age and then we got you know good coaches. I was very fortunate in St Louis to grow up in an area where we had lower connors Jimmy. Connors mom was my one of my main coaches Butch Buchholz who was top ten in the world for many years and then went down a to key Biscayne and became the tournament director for the big term. It now down there that it was Lipton and then it was Sony Ericsson and yeah. I don't know what they call it now. But it's a big one so we you know we had some. We had some great Level Tennyson in the Saint Louis area. I mean chuck. McKinley went through and won Wimbledon and He was from Saint Louis and so I was fortunate. You mentioned about the image of tennis and I'm just wondering what that image was at that particular time and also no kids can be really cruel. Yeah well you know you got the shorts. This there were two short back then. Ball huggers used to call them And you know it's a non contact sport and it was Labeled and maybe still to this day as a country tree club sport A very white collar type sport and So there were certain stigmas and stereotypes that the went along with the game of tennis and Unfairly I I feel so I think some of that's gone now especially with the international Growth of the game. Some of the people that you played against when you were coming up as a junior player those that went on to emerge into some pretty big names as well. Who who did you play when you were younger? Oh Man You know I actually when I was I think I was nine. and Jimmy Areas was eight. We We were paired up at the at the boys twelve nationals and we were walking out to the court You know he's just a tiny little guy and I was pretty small to at nine but he threw up like right next to me on the sidewalk. Walk into the courtroom. So nervous you know and We always laugh about that because Jimmy went onto. It's five in the world and had some. That's great results Through the Nick Voluntary KADEMI system You know Paul Annacone. I play doubles together. All throughout the juniors as we won the Orange Bowl we want a couple of other big national tournaments together. Now he's Roger Federer's coach Bat Brad Gilbert you know it was Appear of mine and certainly he has had a lot of success and many others many others. Let me ask you a question. And that is the fact that You know a lot of kids kids when they start as young as you do. I know that they have to face. Hit that wall when they're a certain age of thirteen and fourteen and they've been picking up the racket. Did you ever face that. Did you almost almost come to a point where you were just burned out one to walk away from the game. Oh Yeah Yeah. Yeah you know when I got about ten then things got really serious here is now is traveling all over the country and playing all these tournaments and then all of a sudden you know two brothers and two sisters but I became the kind of the focal point of the family family and We moved we purposely moved to another house with bigger yards. We could put it in a tennis court. which was the worst thing that could ever happen it to me because then I had no excuse? I was always a court opened. Sectarian gone hit some serves. You know go out and do so So yeah I mean there was a a lot of pressure and and I felt like I had a job at a very early age as a lot of responsibility and tennis is a very difficult sport. You know not unlike figure. You're skating or gymnastics that you you know you've got to put in a lot of hours. You know a lot of hours and you gotTA start at an early age. Because there's a lot of different aspects of the game you know with the fundamentals and techniques that you have to master so You Know I. It didn't come without sacrifices. That's for sure. Missed out on stuff. I'M GONNA use an analogy from baseball here and that was Dennis. ECKERSLEY started out as a starting pitcher before he became dominant closing type of pitcher and You know I've talked to other pitchers that were started to the bullpen. And they said that they really had a tussle with themselves about from an ego standpoint about going from being a singles player you know are in this case using the analogy singles player to go you going to becoming a doubles player. Did you go through that. Did your ego not want you to go to doubles. But Hey I want to show that I could be good a singles player. Absolutely absolutely I mean you you know the reason. I was drawn to Tennyson and I agreed to stay in it. was because because of the individual aspect of it I was on a baseball team that we typically somehow we'd lose the game because you know we had a couple weak links in a in a short stout you know would just put the ball or first baseman. Couldn't catch or you know it was like. Oh you know it would just kill me so you know like I liked the fact that you know tennis. It was all on my shoulders. I wonder loss based upon my results and I think that That also you know I think that. Yeah so singles became Is what you are. I mean you start as a singles player. Doubles is is not even factor. When you're in the juniors and and it wasn't until after I met Roberson Gusau in college and when I was number four in the country and singles college That we started having. It's just amazing results. We were just dominant why we just clicked so well. We complement each other so well You know we won like our first thirty four matches it is and we we just were number one in the country in college and then Continued on the pro circuit after we went two years of college. And then we turn pro and I never tried to give up singles. I wanted to keep playing singles. I got to about fifty in the world and singles you know to the round of sixteen of the US Open. And I had some decent results And yes there are regrets asked a question. I mean even though all the success in doubles you always kind of have that thing like have of a tennis is it's about singles and single certainly gets all the press and the accolades Doubles definitely holds a backseat. Let me ask you can winning winning Whether it's doubles doubles or singles because I think that there's something special about saying it all came onto my shoulders. I remember Michael Jordan's saying to me that when the game is on the line I want to be the one to determine the outcome. If I succeed I'll take the glory if I fail. I'll take the blame in that course in singles tennis the same thing can be said. Yeah not the way in doubles at all is is the satisfaction still has great No I think it's fifty percent in the money certainly last You know I asked you know Bob and Mike Bryan used to come around on when they were kids and and Wayne would bring them out to the tournaments and they would ask us a lot of questions about doubles night. Hit with them and stuff and then you know just recently. I had the opportunity to talk to Bob about his. Bob was good Bob One you know the NC Double A.'s. In singles and pretty quickly got up to about one hundred twenty in the world very talented left you the big serve and You know he got caught in the Rut that I got caught in you. When you're getting the Semis and finals of the doubles each week? You're missing the qualifying for the singles the following week. So you end up all of a sudden you're playing five six weeks in a row of just doubles not getting any singles practice. So you gotTa make sure you go out and practice singles and you know do extra conditioning and things like that and then you end up you know well. What do you do about Davis Cup and the opportunity to go the Olympic I mean the doubles doubles opened up doors? That I probably wouldn't have had opened if I was just a singles player so you can't really just dismiss it and decide to put doubles on the back burner. It's you know you can't bite the hand that feeds you. We've got about thirty seconds before we have to break. But when you think about your partner what is the thing that you appreciate about Robert or even Rick Leach h well for Robert You know I I think of is sense of humor He never took anything too serious. You know his nickname nicknames. Goose and that's that's because of his last name but he's loose as a goose to And his second serve. I mean he had the greatest second. Serve pro you know as good as Sampras you know but he just wasn't as On TV as much but rob had such a great second. Serve it It's it pulled us through and saved us in. So many instances Ken flack is with us. Send the studio. We're talking tennis. He was one of the top men's doubles players in the world. He won thirty six doubles titles during his career including also six Grand Slam titles and and he was a primary partner was Robertson goose. Oh and he won a gold medal at the Seoul Olympics. We'll talk to him a little bit about that as well as we continue across the country and around the world. We've got.

"Andy. He started racing around the Hickory area. At what point did you. You del Jerry and Jimmy. No some get hooked up to start a race that was in probably seventy seven and it was. I was still in high school and I kinda con-. Jimi knew some good friend of mine into building a car together. 'cause. I just I couldn't bill them by MISS.. I wonder I really wanted to race. I WANNA drive I wanted to be you know the race car driver and you know growing up within shouting distance of the Hickory speedway. I had to bug really bad and so yeah I kinda like I said Connor Jimmy Amy into building this thing together no and told him we'll take it up the track. Whoever can run the fastest. We'll be the whoever drives the best will be the driver kind of thing knowing I was. It's GonNa be that Guy Right so we we started building that thing in I think it was seventy seven and worked nights on it. We had adult Jimmy at a tire shop and we worked in their night in the old shop and that pull it back out for the daytime so they could get tiresome then we work on at night took months and months to get it built. you know trying to figure all the stuff out when you don't know anything right. I aggravate Tommy Houston he was he was in hickory their whole time from us and I would aggravating him to death. I will go up his shop and you know ask a million questions about how to do all these things and then I'd go back and work for three or four nights and then they come and John Settlement also he worked for my my grandfather in the Chevrolet dealership in and he also raced in the Sportsman Series Hickory system Houston so and he built his own car so I would use us to guys to try to figure out how to do all these things in in that one where I six eight months span of time. I learned a lot about a race car. I again after driving like you did. How did you get started down the path of becoming a crew chief whenever really droves the way that worked out we got Jimmy. I got that car. Har Finished to appoint. We needed an engine and we had been begged. Barn everything trying to get it done and we were poor. We didn't have any money and so Dale Jarrett just shows up with ned one night at the tire shop and we're working on it and interested in what we were doing and deal to drive. You know well. I'm sorry but I'm GonNa be the driver and I I was. Kinda surprised that even was interested in that because he was like a four sport athlete and hoskin figured he was GonNa carry that on you know but you really WanNa race and so they made it proposition that if we laid rather card they would provide enough money by motor for it. Okay are only six at that point so we I reluctantly agreed to that because I really want to get it on track and see what we'd done a rice it and you know looking back on it. That's really what set my career path. Now you show me a picture right before we started recording and you said that it's a picture of that car taken the day after your first race with. Dj and Net car looks too nice to be to be the day after a race at Hickory looks nice but then it was some fairly crude fabricating the skills that we built that we did we did hire somebody to build and whale the roll cage and the important parts of it but you know thank job look good and we had a nice nice letter job but it was. It wasn't all that Nice. Were you content watching from where you still wanting to draw yeah. I mean and every you know bolster. Drop me a driver I did and but but like I say it set my career path that particular circumstance and I've really never regretted it. I mean I did get a chance to drive later. You're not not in any full season or any any like official way but I did get to drive enough to scratch that E. What timeframe did you work with. Dj and Jimmy just a couple of years. That was like seventy seven seventy eight. I guess he's Okay and the first year we you know we we actually we borrowed money. We get you know Tom pistone I can't I can't thank him enough. He was he was. One of the guys was key to us even being able to get to the track. Tiger Tom Com yeah because how's he he gave us an open account to buy parks and stuff and we couldn't pay him and we could not until the end of the year we had to sell the cartons year to pay him and he never stopped us from getting anything and I I still thank him to this day such such a good guy but he I could walk in there. If I needed a control arm I needed a ball. Join any sign right here you know and we ended up selling the car and paying him then. We built another one that next year. math think we had about same thing here ear but then they all went on to do some other other things in my life was kind of getting complicated. I was having kids and you know it was starting to be you know life was happening to assuming so what did you do from basically the early eighties until you hooked up with Richard Leo Jack that will appear time. I was had started running the service station for DOCO. I'd doctrine town. I was working at star. Jimmy than this opportunity came up. I was running that actually tailgate working for me it really pumping gas and all hours in okay in the bay out there and just kind of run the Serb station and we did it for better PARV year tails driving for Carlos Johnson and sportsmen and doing some and I was helping them but we'll see that's where you missed your opportunity. If you just get your. Dj Eight to work on Saturday night. Oh that would've that wouldn't work but yes. We did that for about a year and then didn't the doctor sold that property to the county they put up. There's a community center there now so that just ended that okay. I need a job okay so I knew ooh I wanna do I wanNA work on cars. I WanNa be racing and I I convince Niger this another one that went out only in for me. I convince him to help me get a job in two NASCAR and the big time and he went and talked to junior Johnson and called kind of a favor. I guess in junior needed a tire changer. He convinced junior that I was a scrap ktar changer that he could. He should hire me. Keep keep him out of number changed one. I did not know that you'd ever worked for June. Yeah did in the nineteen eighty one season they it was probably June of eighty one okay and they had some issues with pitstops and he wanted to change one of the changes and so they hired me change retires owner Walter it's car in nineteen eighty one and what was it like making that jump from Hickory to Western Cup have never changed. Atar is afford championship winning team leaving the point yeah right yeah here we go and I'm right in truck within your Benfield. That's a story uh-huh but we get out to trap him boy. We ride out I'll have to ride the truck out to riverside. That's where we're going to end up now. I think we raised I in college station. Texas was going to be my first time changing tires but we had a problem with leaking or something right very front and we didn't even make a stock fell out of the race Friday so we go in the truck out to riverside and so we sit on the poll out there and everything's backwards the way you've changed their admired me noliwe anyway right so it's the first time you changed tars was it river snap really and it was completely backwards but it didn't matter. I didn't know how to do. Oh my Gosh Gosh Whoa so it. I'll say I was nervous. I can't tell you how riding in that truck the way out there and thinking about how many change two tires tires in my mind driving out there and if I screw up there I got pregnant with my you know. It's it's a lot lot riding on them yeah but we somehow we stumbled through it and and end up winning that race. Did you really and so you on your first ever yeah well. We're deciding brewer was front tire. Changer Junior was actually Jack. Man You know Jeff. Hammond was the official Jackman back then but he had taken that weekend off to go get married. Okay so junior with back on the Jack for your first race. You're on a kid. Not only I wouldn't have been able to step over pit. Wall much less actually change a tire. It worked worked out but I was nervous. I'll tell you people talk about pressure. That's pressure wow now. How long did you end up doing that. Just that season we won the championship and went to New York. I hear here that that ever happened that was neat yeah yeah and then after that was when the kind of the relationship started. I I went to Daytona. Junior wanted to put his full-time. I was just basically a tire changer. He wanted to put his full-time guys back on that bit crew and and but he did bring me to Daytona just in case things didn't work out. I was kind of on standby run. There and I saw Johnny Hayes days. How come they were doing a thing with Phil Parsons in what was then the first year the Budweiser tour which turned into the exterior but yeah so he asked if I want to come help them on that team and they're working on Harry gant shop and Taylorsville Okay and I I had a job. I was a battery salesman. That was my full time job and I will take the you know the time I had off. I go down Harry Gant shop. He'll help them work on that car and we raced in that series so that's eventually how you got hooked up. As the crew chief I feel we formed at Little Cup team that ran half the races with Benny Parsons the next hour k. when we use that that group group that was in that that Bush series Tan as the nucleus of that and and that's when you know met Leo Jackson he was kind of. I guess he was basically the crew chief chief at that point. I don't know how what is actual title was. We all worked in a shop in. Denver and you know just raised many in about fifteen races a year. We did that for quite a few seasons. You actually started out as Phil Parsons crew chief. That's the first crew chief your first Carucci up so when Benny left he he went to replace are T. Tim Richmond Kendricks in. I think it was eighty. Seven season and so Phil Parsons was then driving for us and we the at form basically a fulltime team then and Leo offer me opting to be as crew chief and I think it was probably a mid season eighty seven and so that we did that eighty seven seven and eight thousand eight hundred eighty eight season. I was feel scratchy now. What was your reaction to that. I've been working towards it my goal to get there. I was a you just a mechanic. Nick entire guy on you know on the team and and just working towards I really wanted to be a crew chief and trying to take on more responsibility in Lia. Finally noticed gave me the opportunity so you go in not tell Ya and you and phil when at Talladega as soon as I say that you break into this Korean. There's gotTa be a story so not really I mean we. We had a really really good team back then and we look back on it. We probably should have done even more. We we should have one charlotte. I believe we had pretty good car win a winning car there that year and ended up getting a little bit of a crash but we finished third Daytona five hundred did I rice of eighty eight and then we we go to Talladega then we learned a few things and we had a really okay okay okay so the statute of limitations has long since passed. It's been thirty one years. What'd you learn well. What did you have on that car..

"Know. They're not what they used to be but it's still pretty good and you just want that. You want that one moment for them and kershaw. It's even better jimmy. Connors was a bleep hole for most of his life old don van natta story but serena versus the empire. It's backstory and like all of the examples that they give of men tennis players. Behaving badly towards umpires are like jimmy connors jimmy connors mcenroe mackin rolling and it used to be celebrated that was there john mcenroe made a brand out of being horrible horrible and now he's sort of now. It's almost like george foreman like he's become sort of a softened version of himself. At jimmy. Connors was a horrible human being like to to to others might have been okay ah right personally but like really really awful to other players use abusive yellow referees on and just by virtue of getting older yeah became became kind of a soft and underdog version we all in america we love an underdog kershaw's almost an underdog now is people they let's go and yeah there's like play really great players who never won but it also sorta has to be their fault that they never one so. "And I'm telling you the drag that out of I read that. And I said what a fucked, and you tell me this. And yeah. It's it's not as living in the moment for a Jimmy. I love the fact that glory Connor Jimmy's mom at some point. She must've thought highly upon us Agoura from youth that she would take. She takes you to him for the Yoda thing sorta right? She she in poncho had a special relationship, you know, from from way back in the day, and I was fifteen and Pancho came through Saint Louis to play into some marketing for an exhibition only, and my mom took me over to to see him. And and she wanted to say Hello. So they got talking, and and I was standing with with my mom, and my grandma and looking at all and she looks up to punch us. He goes, you know, my son. Here's got some talent. You know, he's pretty good. You know, now, I'm thinking, oh my God. How how many times has Pancho Segura heard that, you know? But she heard it from Gloria Thompson, you know, that, you know, from back in, you know, the the days of special days when they were growing up in new each other, so well and all that. So she said she said, I'd like for you know, to try to get him to a certain point of of, you know, seeing what he can do in Pancho said send him out to me. And and so I remember going home that night. And my mom said, you know, what do you think would you like to go to California? And I said what times of the plane leave? Let's let's get on it and go do it. You know, I didn't wanna leave my brother. I didn't leave my home. I didn't want to leave my dogs. I'd I did want to do that. But to to get to where in and I was starting to grow a little bit get a little better and improved in. So for me to to try to get him better even to get into college. You know, I needed to make that move and pretty special. Well, I know it's a big leap from Belleville. And when you get outta LA. You're they're very brief time where you do get some home-sickness, right? But then you start driving around getting the lay of the lawyer and his kids at fifteen or six the pivots can happen. Pretty quickly. Go through you. Come back and say, okay. Let's you go from I want wanna go home to. Let's let's stay. Once I got the lay of the land. There was no going staying for sure, you know, growing up where I did was was special. It was and you know, I look back, and and I really like my midwestern upbringing, but but getting to California Dennis was, you know, and Pancho son Spencer is Ilya dear friend today might be cold this morning. And and you know, so I mean, he introduced me to his friends some, you know, some, you know, the empl- Dean Martin junior does your nose junior and in in a whole host of other friends and just kind of took me in right away..

But but yeah, so I played I played tennis all through my youth, and then had had my schedule and freshman year of college was tennis practice five to eight eight AM to noon classes back to tennis breakfast in the afternoon dinner. And then I was a theater major. And so all theater rehearsals are in the evening. Did you have any time sleep? No. And so I would go to theater rehearsal from seven to ten eleven midnight. And then crash getting Zayed. Yeah. Well, I had had a bit of a nervous breakdown about halfway through freshman year. And was like, I gotta pick one of these things, and you know, professional actor professional athlete could you have gone to play. I could have gone. I could've your big Jude. I could. If I if I had if I had stayed healthy. And if I had committed I could've played professionally I could've played on a tour. I wouldn't have been anything of note, and I probably would have enjoyed coaching. But I can't wait to smack some balls with you. Yeah. I really can't wait to just strokes. I have to really good ways wooden rackets we really play with wooden. He no one of my interviews. One of my first interviews we're going to re release that one. I was Jimmy Connors. Jimmy Connors was my favorite tennis player growing. I told you that. I haven't heard I haven't heard he he did have really good leg, right leg. I have. I have a photo of me at age sixteen with with those little tiny tennis shorts, and I played doubles with Billie Jean King. And I can't remember who else was in the photo. It was like a charity thing, but I was one of the local youth players and from the waist up. I am gangly sixteen year old freckled kid and from the waist down. I have the legs the tanned legs of a thirty five year old professional tennis players, bulky, it looks motor muscular. It looks Photoshop. I wanna see this. I got I got a track. This interview out you could post that. That'd be great my mom, find it. I wanna see those legs. Yeah. They were really nice. They are now there there's still the things I have left from from my tennis have large. I saw you look rob that was enjoying them nicely. Do you have large balls? What's that average on asking that? Because as a tennis player the shorts are so short that. I feel like. If you have big balls, you could have problems..

"January thirteenth and. Our best friend since nineteen sixty seven. It's his birthday. No. He's not listening. Right. I'll just send the happy birthday wish to him. And on that note. I wanna talk about a subject that I brought up last weekend. Remember when I mentioned, these three names Clark Gable? Carey grant and Humphrey Bogart. And I said between the thirties and fifties little bit for a little bit after. But. Those core decades these men or the most popular in Hollywood there other names. I couldn't mention Cagney ever g Robinson to me Stewart. I know are just mentioned those three to set the ball rolling. I wanted you the audience to tell me here in the twenty first century, what actors do we have that could equal the skills in front of a camera of those three surpassed the skills in front of a camera for those three, and I'm gonna take that subject and moved along a little bit. I am hoping hope hope hope I can get a lot of you to call in. And join me with my buddy. Ed Robinson who is here. He is a broadcaster in California. He is an authors in number of books. We've talked about his books in the past. And I can't think of anybody else. I rather do this subject with of TV actors who have that genus equa that special something that made us watch them on the TV shows week after week, Ed good evening. Good morgan. I'm just letting you know because I'm watching it. Here not supposed to tell people. I'm watching the football game. But the Rams are eight points up. Over dallas. Yes with warning. They were they were thirteen points up at the half. I I have not following the game. Because as it may have told you before. Being a Los Angeles transplant by still follow the San Francisco teams. Okay. I I have no dog in this race. Although because the patriots gave the forty Niners Jimmy G. I I may be partial to the to the patriots also because Tom Brady is a bay area. Boy. Yes, he is. Yes. He is Sarah high school if I remember correctly. But but yeah, so yeah. But obviously the Rams are having a good year. And that game they played against Casey. Thanksgiving that was a pinball machine. Horns point-scoring sporting sports back and forth. Yes. Yes. The irony. The irony. Is that it at the difference was a defensive play. Right. That's true. I mean, actually to defensive plays in the last couple of minute by, but but that is that is what makes what makes sports as wonder as wondrous as it is sometimes now, I've written down some names that fit this March of actors in the world of television, predominantly some of these people had one foot in the world of TV and one foot in the world of movies, but they made their Mark on the small screen in our living rooms, I am going to give you. Five or six names. I came up with. I'm sure you've come up with some names. And who knows who knows what? Crossover in in our list, and what I want as kind of a barometer that they've had to have at least two series in their career that were popular. I'm not going to save the series had to run five seasons ten seasons. What have you? But they have I need at least two different series in their career. And I'll give you names Michael Landon some guy named garner James garner. Roger Moore, Robert Conrad Larry Hagman. This is one that necessarily doesn't belong because the others were handsome leading men, but this man has had two long running series in its career one that ran eleven years eleven to twelve years and one that is still running into its six season. Ed O'Neill, Mike Connors. Chuck Connors, Jimmy Smits. And Ted Danson. They've all had multiple series. They were all looked upon as handsome leading man, you know, the six-foot-plus tall chiseled features. And who do you have? Well Gardner is is the one crossover on actually we had to we had two names that are crossover. Garner was one okay? Hageman was the other. Although I have an asterisk after Hagemann. Okay. Became an and I'll and I'll tell you why. And I'll tell you why very briefly because it's thirteen minutes after and I know you gotta break coming up but soak. Yes, she had all he had all their he meets all the criteria that you just laid out as far as his work on television. And certainly with regard to his work on Dallas. The only reason I have an asterisk after Hagemann is because I believe one of the things we talked about off Mike when we were called blocking. This thing out is how you know their their relations with the crew good tone right behind the scenes without question. Hagman set the tone Hagman was the star was the straw that stirred the drink on Dallas. And he made it a very comfortable as I understand. And I've been fortunate enough to talk talk about a half dozen actors or directors. Who worked with him on Dallas? So I'm pretty confident when I say he he made it a very comfortable family like experience on Dallas, I dream of Jeannie less so on much less if I've heard stories to I've had stories and Barbara Eden confirms many of them and even Hagemann. Said he was not an easy person to get along with because he was going through some stuff at the time. And so he was very combative and Bill and Bill Daley kinda confirm much the same. So were you know, so on the case of genie? It was Barbara E news pretty much, the peacemaker it made people feel at home, right? But but other aside from that I would say with Dallas, especially Hagman. I was I've also told by an author friend of mine who interviewed one of the cash members on his second series, the good life with Donna mills and David Wayne that. Hageman was a lot more together back then having learned from this mistakes on genie and from their non did a much better job of making people feel welcome. And Diane Baker told me that when she did. Here we go again with Hagman early seventies. There was a lot of champagne flowing. Well, I'm gonna I'm not telling a tale out of school because if anybody out there wants to you can look up Larry Hagman on I dream of Jeannie and you'll hear the story. I'm about retail. And then go off to a break if he didn't like a script now for an example bewitched, and I do miss Jeanie at the same consistency. The male star was turned into everything possible from chimp to an elephant or an ostrich go up and down the line that was a consistent plot within both of those shows. And I think by the third season. Larry Hagman was just tired of that. You know, he had to go into the recording booth. Record lines because. Genie could speak to him. He was a champ for an elephant. But. The audience we saw him as a chimpanzee that was talking. He hated that. Absolutely. Hated that. He was an actor and wanted to act and if he saw script he did not like, and I'm not making this up. I heard this from some people who worked on that show as well. A lot of you know, oriented viewed Bill Daley I interviewed. Foreign care Wayne who did a guest spot on that term. Neil. There you go. And. Mary Hagman would go off into a corner of a set. And there's no other way to say it. He would defecate. Yeah. That is that I have heard that story. I believe Barbara Eden. Includes that story era or version of it in her book. Yeah. So Ed, and as I said earlier Hagman himself as you said, I'm more than one occasion. Including a believe this long interview with the archive of American television Hagman himself admitted that he was a jerk. You know, the first couple of years of genie until he. Discovered LSD and underwent psychotherapy. I like the way you tippy toe. I wanna get we're not talking about a turt- it in his book write his book. Hello, darling. So, you know, we're not we're not speaking ill of the dead. We're you know, we're we're we're we're laying what we understand to be the truth. We'll tell you. This is a good place to stop to take my break when we come back, hopefully will give people in our audience who will agree or disagree with some of the names. I have a name I didn't say because I couldn't read my writing this gentleman was part of that cookie cutter image from wanna brothers stars of the fifties. And sixties the the made you a combo star. Or they made you a private eye and Richard long. Fit the Bill either way. He was on seventy seven cents at strip. He had a recurring role. Maverick loved him. Kelly loved him. He was he he decided he was a good guy and a good co started good actor, and he he he enjoyed. Indian working with what was the handsome? Jim darby? Character gentleman, gentlemen, Dr. Gen gentleman Jim Darby, which is basically a variation of dandy. Jim Buckley, Zimbalist junior. Who's another guy? We can add to your list, and they both those two names Ephram Zimbalist junior and Richard long went on to do seventy seven cents dripping. Now has gone well into my brain. If you wanna give us a call six one seven two five four ten thirty. You can or at night can just talk about all of these. Jimmy, G O. Okay. Keep it sports related. The Rams won by the way, they beat Dallas. So they're one step closer to the Super Bowl. Jared jerem jerk Jared Goff Jericho time and temperature here. Busy eleven twenty and twenty one degrees Morgan.

"I feel like Jimmy, I, you know what he actually made me light Connor more because like even O'Connor talks a lot of shit, trash talker. They all wanna fight him could be beaten up Michael, Michael Johnson, Callum, Dana. Like that's not very respectful when you're beating one guy in the corner and you're saying Dana, I wanna fight your son. That's not exactly respecting your opponent either. So everybody wants a piece. Conor because of the amount of money he brings in. And then when he talked shit, people get mad that he's talking shit, we'll say, well, that's why he's got, you know, for the top six highest grossing pay per view because people love them. They watch him. People hate his guts, and they watch him like, you can't have it both ways. If you hate Connor fine, don't fight him, but don't ask for fight with Connor. And they get mad when he does Connor Jimmy. I agree you two to two point though, but listen, Amen. Yeah, that could be disrespectful. He's talking to Dana voice fighting him. Well, he's show data on a different level. He's not talking about Michael Johnson's father or his religion or this stuff like this, that's bigger than just dollars and cents and selling a fight. What is next talk about? Somebody's wife, somebody's kids. There's gotta be a line in the sand. I fuck in disagree what anybody says different because I'll tell you what you cross that line. You'll get dealt with with certain people. Look at that picture of him jumping over about the fucking his foot. Looking going on Dylan, Dallas's ego. Right? I, that's somebody that's you hurt emotionally now you wanna take it to that level. All right. You're selling a fight. Yes, people you want to be hated. People can hate about you talk about somebody's family. Somebody's father, we obviously he's looking. Yeah, you want to mental warfare. He's looking about what this guy holds the dearest to him and he's make a mockery of it. And he's, I don't know. I'm pretty sure it's a bit things about the father. I'm not getting into it, but awful saying you're wrong. I'm not saying you're wrong any of that, but you, it can't propel you jump over the fucking hundred issue. I agree with you guys, but again, I'm not saying taught psychopath if I'm fucking there is lines that should not you talking about guys that are fighting listen. Yes, I've is always professional. I never did anything. You know, to get disqualified or. There's nothing to do with this. This is just came to me now for a second. What kind of cheating all night ever bring them out this guys. I eat legally need him compete, not being a fucking bitch where he gets into face illegally, like Frank shamrock. Did you handle Gracie when he was cross eyed on them and y'all could be did not move at all these fog. It get good, good. Maybe again, I'm getting the fuck you that guy wanted to get stood up so bad. He was take the foul anyway that just came to me, but he granted he was the fence a couple of times. Yeah, so listen, you're right, Jimmy. You're right, Jimmy. You're right. He should not have jumped over. I'm not. I should not trying to make excuses for that. But all these young fighters out the guy's gonna be, hey, look, Kobe, Kobe, this. Another one dude he talks about with John Joel, this stuff. He talks about what these guys is deeper than just fighting this one's doing that or this one's with his wife for this do that. That just shows a piece of shit. And I must say Conor is I'm say..
