"Perform at the top at the top of your ability. And most guys, I would say 99% of guys, when they find one person, whether it be massage therapist, whatever it is, they lock down that person, okay? It is not normal to go out there and go out and get 60 plus women for a masseuse. That is not normal behavior. It is predatory behavior in my opinion when you go out there and you're trying to, you know, solicit that many people to perform that type of act. And so again, I'm just going to repeat it again. That is not normal behavior by deshaun Watson. I play 13 years in the league and through massage therapists, acupuncturists, and chiropractors. There were 5 people that worked on my body. And that's how it usually is, and that's how a lot of athletes know just like Demi is talking about how specific we are. If you get something that doesn't work, a bad treatment, then it can affect you going into a game and that's where you just can't have something like that. It affects your performance. So this is alarming. And this just isn't going away. I mean, I've had conversations with my wife recently now. I've been out of the league a long time, just explaining what's going on with the Sean Watson. So every time a Cleveland Brown player is asked about deshaun Watson and he has to either, I don't know, do you voice support and voice about, okay, it's just about who he is when he enters the building. It's hard to do. And especially if you have strong beliefs on this field, you're right, compartmentalize is the right word because, I mean, he's your quarterback, and he's going to help you win games eventually, and you have and you have to make this work. I understand you have to make this work, but this just isn't going away any time soon because these lawsuits will continue into the off season. And it's going to be a long drawn out process for the Cleveland Browns organization. So I thought woody said something that was really interesting. It's not normal. But the browns and the other teams that were interested in deshaun Watson, they raised the question of, but is it criminal? You know, having all these different masseuses is that a crime? The browns and other teams who were interested in deshaun Watson are comfortable living in the gray. Comfortable saying, well, we weren't there, but we did our due diligence. And we feel comfortable that Desean, what he's saying versus these women, we're okay with what we've uncovered, but here's the thing for the browns. They have to bank on the fact that nothing else will come out going forward. They are tied to him for 5 years, $230 million guaranteed. They are tied to him GM Andrew berry, the haslam. This is their decision and they're going to ride with Desean because he's such a good football player. Well, if any more information comes out, the browns are not previously aware of. Or if anything yesterday was not even there aware of as well, then I'm not sure they did enough of their own due diligence. Geico asks how would you love a chance to save some money on car insurance? There you see him, the two names in the center of the Steelers quarterback competition, Mitch stib, and Kenny Pickett, who vet and The Rookie. They're going to compete for the job this summer, but for now, they're working their way through OTAs. This is like elementary school at this point of the off season. And just within the last hour, each of them spoke here at the edge to say. We got a great quarterback room. I like the guys we got in there. We've also been building relationships in there as well. So it's competitive every day, but at the same time, with my experience, I'm hoping the young guys, I feel like when I communicate with them, it also helps me talk to this offense and I feel like I get to know it that much better as well. Yeah, the mentor word, I mean, I don't think it's, like I said, it's on his job to just sit there and teach me. I'm going to ask questions. I'm going to watch him. It's really my job to ask questions and to learn from him and watch how he does things. There's kind of a fine line between that mentoring thing, but we have a great relationship and everything's going smoothly. No one better to talk steelers with than our great ESPN NFL nation steelers reporter, Brooke Pryor, who was at the facility today talking to the players, and the coaches broke good afternoon. And what is the team had to say about the quarterback competition that's at least going on now, a really heat up later on this summer. Look, field, I don't want to get you too excited because it is June, but I did watch a quarterback lead to two minute drill with crowd noise in Pittsburgh today. Granted, the crowd noise was coming from an iPod and they were in shorts, but Mitch trubisky ran a two minute drill. They scored in it. It was a touchdown pass to Chase claypool. Yesterday they also simulated a game like two minute drills at the end with Kenny Pickett and mason Rudolph, neither one of those guys scored mason Rudolph was picked off. Kenny Pickett had a really nice completion to Connor Hayward, but just ran out of time. Look, quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan told me it's not gonna be perfect right now. These guys are trying to earn their white belts in jiu-jitsu. And Sullivan would know about that. He's actually a purple belt in jiu-jitsu, white belt is the very first one. It's what you earn after you kind of set the foundation for everything that you're learning. I asked Kenny Pickett about that. I said, do you feel like you're earning your white belt? And he said, I know one thing's for sure. I don't have a black belt at anything. So everyone is still learning, like you said, it's elementary school right now in this quarterback competition. I learned two things. Don't mess with Mike Sullivan, their quarterback coach, and Brooke, go find that iPod because I think they just got discontinued. Whoever owns that might have themselves a hidden treasure, they could sell on eBay for like a million bucks, a little bit later on in the future. Thanks as always, Brooke. All right, so last season, this Dior is posted a total QBR as a team of just 35.9 by far the lowest mark of any team that actually made the playoffs. The next closest two teams were the eagles in forty-niners, both had at least a 13 point gap. In fact, last season Pittsburgh became the third team to make a postseason with a sub 40 QBR, that metric was introduced back in 2006. All right, David, I want to know what level of belt you already have. But more importantly, can they get enough out of either of these quarterbacks to make it back to the playoffs? You know, that's an interesting question field. I go back to the off season to what Mike Tomlin talked about as far as the quarterback position. He wanted to get more mobility out of the quarterback position. We know that Big Ben towards the latter part of his career really was a statue back there and in today's game we sent a lot of these quarterbacks being able to make plays off platform and out of the pocket with their legs. And I think when you look at Mitchell trubisky, you know, he was a polarizing guy, you know, during his time with the Chicago Bears. And I think he, you know, going to buffalo really had an opportunity to kind of sit back behind Josh Allen and kind of reset everything that was going on with his career. And now move note to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he gets an opportunity to display that dimension that Mike Tomlin was talking about, the running and being implemented in this offense. So I think mister biscuit has a great opportunity with the weapons around him to really really elevate that quarterback.

"That's another one that I think could play like you said that hybrid role, right? On the line off the line, dropping the coverage and also rush. I think that those are that he's an interesting name here too. Oh, that's an interesting one in the chat. I will point this out. I don't, I have tight end listed as their lowest need. But if they really don't believe in Asia or keen, they're at the point where they can move on from those guys if they feel you're going Connor Hayward here because I became with that. No, no. Two of the top tight ends in this class are actually still on the board. Isaiah likely from coastal Carolina who's like one of the premier athletes in this class. I don't know that they go with him. The other guy that interests me who I thought, I'm not totally surprised he's here, but a little bit. Charlie koller from Iowa state. Yeah. The big guy, he's purely a red zone threat, but as the third tight end to pair with hunter Henry and John Smith, a guy who is a really good blocker, basically he's two best skill sets. You really get run blocker and he's really good at high pointing the football. Having that guy in the red zone, like he's your third side end, you take him here, is your third tight end, he's not gonna play a ton, but he's got a little Tim Wright in him, right? If you remember Tim Wright and the guy they traded for Logan mankins, not a bad, not a bad addition. So I don't, there's a million other ways I'd rather see them go, but if they go tight end, I can kind of see it. I can kind of see it, you know, just they're going to move on from Asia and keen. Fine. Sure. All right. We just named about 50 guys. So hopefully the Patriots take one of them. I have more on 98 funds of sports up dot com too. There you go. More on 95 the sports up dot com..

"So I've said this before, I think all things considered the talent, the skill set, the position, the positional value, the way the position stacked, the other players of the position throughout the draft. Pound for pound, I think, quay walker is the best pick they could make in the draft if they can get him at 50. He's a good player. And I don't know that they can. For the other linebackers in the class. For what they need at linebacker. What do you bring to the table? All of that. He would be great. I love these first three picks, really. I do. I'm trying to tell if they add any future assets here. I can't put all moving around. He'll walk or bath as your defense is better. Those are three day one starters. I like Jalen amore Davis too as a potential upside corner on the outside and then we've talked about this. What much rather amor Davis and cordell flood? What much great, bigger green? And then a little fancy at the end, a little styling at the end with Connor Hayward and Jordan stout. It's a good polls, but players that the Patriots would like, this person has some research. This was well done. Did their homework? Yeah, this is a good one. I agree. Jalen armor Davis, long athletic head kind of a bumpy road at Alabama, but somebody wants season. Yeah, but somebody that I think is really, really high upside. The one thing that I would say about this draft and macro mentioned the age of the draft prospects, a lot of older guys, because of COVID, because it's just a wonky three or four year run for a lot of these dudes, like a lot of guys don't haven't played a lot of football, a lot of guys are older. It's just a weird, everybody's got something, right? Like everybody's either 25 year old rookie, Andrew bridge junior's only played 15 games in college, like there's always a little bit of something like that with a lot of these guys. In this class. It just seems like everybody's got just something going on with how many years they played or whatever. Jaylen on more Davis is another one of those guys I really like him. All right, one more, oh, well we got, okay, Jermaine Johnson's not making it there. I just don't think he's making it to 21. We talked about Danny gray. Tariq and Troy Andrews this is a good mock if it happens. I don't think it happens. I think it's a great mock of it happens. Here's the one I wanted to pull up a tire elam. Troy Anderson. Finally, somebody knows where to take.

"We do take EJ Perry here though. Okay. I think that's well, let's see who else is here, kenzie. Is not he's getting drafted. There's no way he's not going to grant it. Yeah, so keep an eye out for those guys. Slade Bolden, I think is a lock to be invited to camp. But counter Hayward, if he doesn't get drafted, would be interesting. I think he's going to get drafted though. Probably right here someplace in the 70s. So taking Connor Hayward here wouldn't be bad. And if you think that if you're like really high on LED or if you're really high on Perry and you think that those guys are going to get a UDF phase, then I think Connor Hayward has a role. That's maybe a little bit bigger on the team, right? Like I think that he could play this year and contribute as a fullback. I think the other thing is if it gets to this point, Connor Hayward, you have a better shot of let's say they both made it to the UDF a point, right? You have a better shot of signing EJ Perry as you DFA than you do, Connor Hayward. If that makes sense. Yeah. It does. We did Carter Hayward once before though. We did. Tyler rebel, obviously he was here. I don't think we did. I don't think we did Hayward yet. I don't think we've taken him yet. I thought we took him in the 7th round in another mop and did. Now, because last week was the first week we had a 7th round pick. Oh, I thought we took him. I don't know. I like the quarterback here. I like EJ Perry. I'm just saying, let's just make sure we didn't miss anybody. You look at their history of guys like Zach Robinson and guys and the later on day three as backup quarterback developmental guys. I think that those are those are interesting. EJ Perry do, like you said, scout team potential there. We took to his cousin last week. Yeah, he did. And there's no interesting linebackers. Is that Ross guy for Michigan? So Perry or stout, you want Perry? Let's go, Perry. All right, EJ Perry. Annie's an ivy leaguer. I think they like the brains. Yeah, especially for that scout team role. Learn a new playbook every week. Yeah. All right, so that's where we.

Welcome back to the NFL explained podcast Mike yamen and Dee Dee kinka wallo with you. Adida, let's get right back to this. How about this for a little nug here on the Cardinals? Stanford has the second most quarterbacks drafted since the common era began. 17. 17, which is kind of crazy. You know, you're always doing the pop quiz thing on me. How about this for you? Do you know which school has the most though when it comes to quarterbacks drafted in the common era? I'll give you a hint. I'll give you it's a packed bowl school. Pack 12. Did you notice how I said pack twin? Like I didn't know if I was saying pack 12 or pack ten right there. Oh, well, it has to be USC, wasn't there like that you were like, it was like Matt leinart and Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley and like anybody and everybody, you just had to play the position and you'd be drafted out of that school? Yeah, that's what happens when you go to USC and you're the team starting quarterback. You get thrust into the Heisman conversation, everyone thinks you are bound for NFL stardom, but you're right. You hit the nail on the head, SC 19 of those quarterbacks. Carson Palmer's probably the one who had the best NFL career of the group. Maybe there's some conversation and debate to be had there. But I throw his name into the mix. Florida state, Washington, Ohio State actually round out the top 5 schools with the most quarterbacks drafted since 1967. Buckeyes though have the most players drafted in the first round with 83, followed by, yeah, we'll say it again. USC, then Alabama, Notre-Dame, and Miami, the school with the most number one overall picks. Damn, Trojans. Talk about that history. USC and Oklahoma both with 5 adidi. I feel like this is such a generational thing too. You know, if you had asked me, and I'm thinking about the last, let's call it 5 drafts. I'm definitely thinking SEC. Oh, no doubt. Right? Whether it's Alabama or LSU or but again, everything is cyclical. And so we were just mentioning players drafted in the first round. How about this one? Father son combos drafted in the first round. And listen to this, there's actually two instances of a dad being a first rounder and two of his kids being taken in the first round. Actually, if you think about it, I think they're probably pretty obvious, yeah. Well, the mannings, right? That's the layup for me. I'm trying to remember who the other, so there's well, here's what's crazy about that, too. Archie Manning was drafted by his hometown saints in 1971 and then Peyton like we mentioned earlier was taken by the colts in 98, and Eli Manning was the number one overall pick of San Diego in 2004, but he didn't want to play there, and so of course he spent his entire career with the Giants. But here's what's crazy. There could be a nephew. There could be a third generation first round pick because Peyton and Eli's older brother Cooper has a son named arch, Mike. He's a superstar in high school right now. You kind of have to be with that name, don't you? Well, here's another name that has pulled that out and you mentioned Ohio State. Well, Joey and Nick Bosa were drafted in the first round in 2016 and 2019 and their dad, of course, was a longtime NFL player drafted in the first round in 1987 out of Boston college and I'll tell you this. I was at Nick Bosa's pro day at Ohio State. I met his dad, and he looked like he could still play or put the hurt on somebody. That does not surprise me at all. I remember actually being at a niners practice before the season had started, dude looks like a Greek God. I mean, the whole family, the genetic thing, it is definitely a real deal. Because it's not just physically what you have, but just think about being around NFL dudes all the time. How often do you mention pro days a deity? How often do you go to a pro day or do you see a guy or talk to a player who's in the NFL and you hear that their dad or their uncle was a coach or a former player themselves? Like all of that exposure to the game, I think gives them a huge edge. And once again, it does come down to genetics, because I could have been exposed to it. My entire life, adini, I am playing in the NFL. That's not going to happen. It's interesting. You say that because I was just at Kenny Pickett's pro day, the quarterback out of pit. And I met his parents who were the most lovely people. And I was chatting with his dad about how Kenny knew he wanted to be a quarterback at the age of 5, and that was that. But of course he had in high school he did play other positions. And so when I asked Kenny, I said to him, hey, your dad said you could have made a pretty good linebacker too. He laughed, and he said, that's high praise because his dad was a really good linebacker. And he said, I hope I bring that edge to the quarterback position. So there's definitely that. Did you shake his dad's hand? I'm trying to actually, as we chat here, there are two guys this year whose fathers were drafted in the NFL, who had older brothers who were drafted and who also could be drafted now. So BC offensive lineman, Alec lindstrom, has a father, Chris, who played in the NFL and made a Pro Bowl at an older brother who is in the NFL named Chris. And then Michigan state fullback Connor Hayward as a father, Craig ironhead Heyward, who of course was in the Pro Bowl and has a big brother, cam, Hayward, who is the great defensive lineman for the Steelers who as well has made the Pro Bowl. I don't believe that either of these young players are going to be first round picks, though. You think Kenny's first quarterback off the board? I do, actually. Okay. But let's get back, let's get back to this one. So anyway, some of the other father son combos that are drafted in the first round. The Steelers have another one. Devin bush, who's their middle linebacker, Devin bush junior was drafted in 2000 19, his dad Devin bush also was drafted in 1995. Jamal Adams, 2000 17, his dad, George Adams, 1985. Of course, Jake Matthews and Bruce Matthews, Craig, and Kim Heyward, as I just said, Mark Ingram, his dad was also a first round pick, clay Matthews junior and clay Matthews. They were both first round picks, Kellen Winslow, junior, and his dad, Kellen Winslow, were also first round picks, and then of course the mannings, as we said, and the boses. Okay. This is purely an opinion. There's no wrong answer right answer, but I will ask you the question adida before we wrap up this show. The best father son combo in pro sports. Because there's one that comes to mind, but

"Well, so is there anything we want to address? We have an address. And I know people say the Patriots don't draft or need the report from Mike Reese this year is that's kind of going to be the plan. Yeah, the only other thing that I could maybe entertain. I don't know what's even available at two 58 in the lineback wide receiver department. I don't know if you would consider doubling up there as well just because it is still really have anybody under contract after next year. EJ Perry. Let's go through all the positions. Let's have some fun with this. Okay. I mean, right now, but two 58, Derrick king here is not, I mean, I think he's a UDF a but they met with him. They met with them. So Derek is one of the most fascinating players in college football. I know he's going to win the Heisman list. Yeah. He was the 8th string quarterback in high school who became the top quarterback recruit in the state of Texas. Went to Houston. He was behind, who was it, Greg ward, who was now wide receive for the eagles, was a great quarterback in college. Played wide receiver king did, played two years at wide receiver was pretty good moved to quarterback, had a record setting season got hurt, transferred to Miami. He had another great season, got hurt again. Here we are. He's going to be 26 when the season starts. They met with him. As a practice squad guy for the scout team, he makes a lot of sense. As a potential wide receiver, he makes a lot of sense. Like you said, I think he goes on drafted. I think the fact they met with him. Maybe they can get him in the building. Maybe they already know they can grab him if he doesn't get drafted. Yeah, I mean, I hate well, they did this 7th round, Julian Edelman, right, all over again. That's what's going to happen if they take Derek king years. I think he's Julian Edelman. But it does make sense in that mold, right? It doesn't make sense in that thought process. We don't know where you're going to play necessarily, but we know you're a football player and we'll see what we can do with you. The only other position that I don't think that we've addressed here that we could have potentially addressed was safety. But I don't say it. Let's go through all the positions and rapid fire that we did miss Caleb elbie. Caleb is like the Mac version of Mac Jones. They're going to move on for them. Right. Yeah. All right. Wide receiver. Devin, you know my deal on Devin Hopkins. Fastest player in the draft, but he's 5, 6, a 150 pounds. No. No need. Nobody else. There's some undrafted guys that are interesting. They're not even on the simulator. Tight end. I mean, Connor Hayward's an interesting pick here. We did this last time, didn't we? I think so. Okay. So we'll move on then. We could take a running back. We could take a pass catching back, trust in Abner, my guy, still here. I think at this point you could probably get him as a EDF a, right? Probably get him as UDF. And Michigan guy. Yeah. And low at this point, too. Really liked the dairy and low. Yeah, Darren Rosenthal is still on the board here as well. I think he's going to be long gone by now. But there are some interesting tackles..

"And conquer is kind of like Johnny Smith. He's a move tight end, HVAC type, really good with the ball in his hands. He's 6 two. So he's not like a big guy you're going to run the scene, but if they're going to go that route, right, if they're going to and we think that they might add. The full back position may not be done. It might just be done as we knew it. This would essentially be this pick would be if they're not going to use John Smith primarily in that role. This pick would be, hey, Dalton king didn't work out. Here's a guy with a similar skill set that maybe can fill that role. Yeah. So I'm assuming Christian Hayward is gone, right? Oh, I don't know. So Christian Hayward would be Christian it looks like he is. Yeah. That's what I meant. Connor Hayward. Conor Hayward here is really interesting too. But Connor Hayward, they're going to trade back to the 7th for Conor Hayward. Connor Hayward is more of a fullback fullback. He's not going to he's got some army knife to him though, right? I mean, he's got some athleticism and some pass catching ability. I think he would just be a guy on top of the fact that he's got the pedigree and the off field character and all that kind of stuff. He just feels like the type of guy they would like, right? Just one of those footballs. So then why don't we do, why don't we do this then? Why don't we do that? Just move back to the 7th round and get him and pick up a future pick. We're probably going to lose him in knowing our love, but yeah. We need a team that actually has a future future 7th. The falcons made the stocks want to move up. We do love trades. They don't have a south. We love trades. Yes, you chargers have a bunch of things. Two 36. Yeah. "Full back? The two names I keep throwing out. If it's in free agency, it's Elijah penny. If it's in the draft, it's Connor Hayward. Both of those guys are utility fullbacks. They're just aren't a ton of those blocking fullbacks available anymore. They might really have to dig to find one. When I say there isn't one in the draft, the board I use goes, I think it was like 550 players deep. And trust me, I'm not necessarily familiar with every player on the board, but I sort it by position a lot. Connor Hayward's the only fullback. So it goes 566 players deep. There's board. Shout out Isaiah land linebacker Florida a and M. What was I saying? Yeah, so if they want to find a true blocking fullback and they're not doing it in free agency, they're going to have to go to Canada. They're going to be the international pathway program again. Right. I mean, this is beyond the USFL at this point. Japan plays college football. I know Norway does. I'm missing an obvious one. Arena league. But yeah, I mean, that might be what you're talking about. There's guys out there. There's just, you know, we get in the weeds, right? With this stuff, yeah, we're talking beyond our knowledge. Than that. Which is why I think they're going utility. I think they would have kept Jakob Johnson if they wanted that role. I think they're going to go with the utility fullback. Ben mason real quick, not on the roster anymore. He signed a futures deal with the ravens. And that's the other thing. Yeah. Some of these guys are going to get cut. They may just be like, eh, we'll throw whoever will throw William Sherman at fullback throughout camp and then somebody will break free and we'll sign them off for practice squad or claim him on waivers or whatever before the season starts. That could very much be the plan too. Yeah, as much as it drives me crazy just from a big picture standpoint and the fact that you're just your maximum point production is so much lower as a team when you run a team out of 21 regular the way the Patriots have in the past couple of years. But their production and their efficiency at a 21 personnel has been the best out of any personnel grouping that they've been in pretty much going on since the 2018 season, right? It's been three or four years now where 21 has been their most productive grouping. Why? Because they're averaging over four yards per carry on the ground when they're in 21. And number two, their play action passing game is fantastic added 21 personnel. And they leave the full back through the whole, they get everybody to jump up, they hit the tight ends and their slot receivers crossing over the middle. It's a difficult play to stop. They've been running it like the same way for ten years. Now,.

"So I think he's going to go a little bit higher than most patriots fans want them to take a running back, but Karen Williams from Notre-Dame is an awesome third down running back prospect, right? He's somebody that can pass protect and catch the football. Lands airlines come for him as Dion Lewis, right? So he's somebody that can really play that role in a high, high level. So maybe an end of the third round type of guy probably the top 100, maybe a little bit too early for the Patriots to take a running back, but Karen Williams from Notre-Dame. We can definitely play that James White role. He probably won. The one thing I would say to that is I think James cook is a very comparable player. He'll probably go 2025 pixel later. Right. And that's how the Patriots approach this, right? I think they'll look at that spot and say we could grab Williams now or we can realistically wait until our next pick get cooked. I just think they go that way. So the running back car is a staggered really weird. Yeah, or even like a CJ verdell later on in the draft. He's later, yeah, CJ riddell. And clusters and all that kind of stuff. This is where we get into that with Karen Williams. Let's talk about defense, more important than running back anyways. Defensive line. Can I get one more on the offense side of the ball? Real quick, yeah. I know you didn't want to do tight ends. Nope. But there's a guy named Connor Hayward at a Michigan state. He was a running back for two years converted to tight end. He's a big dude. He's 6 foot two 30. He's not quite a move fullback, but he's a full backpack and can give you a little something in the passing game. He's a really unique player. He was at the senior bowl. He's a guy who's going to be on the radar. He's a guy who kind of has that different. I think there could be, they're going to bring in at least one full back. I think from undrafted free agency to even if they resign Jakob Johnson, the one thing that we've watched them do in the last couple of years, Ben mason, and Vitale is potentially trying to get somebody that can catch some passes from that thought too and not just be a lead blocker. So this is Hayward. Again, 'cause he caught 30 passes when he moved to tight end this year. He also was among the team leaders in special teams tackles. He covers kicks. So he screams day three developmental patriots pick and I'm blanking on his first name again. I just said it's Connor right, yeah. Connor Hayward out of Michigan states a guy to watch..

"It was for the Spartans of MSU. And with the man of the hour, Mr Steve Courtney is here with MSU football coach extraordinaire. Mel Tucker. Good morning, Stevie. Good Morning, Dub. Hello again, everyone indeed. Good things come to those who wait. Late kick and Evanston on Friday night. The very first play from scrimmage the first play of the season. How about it? Kenneth Walker, the third, the junior transfer running back, takes it. 75 yards to the house. Just like that. Probably drew that play up during spring ball. Coach. How are you this morning? I'm doing. I'm doing great. How are you doing? Everything. Good morning That play took 13 seconds. When you when you figure it all out, tough to win time of possession when you got action like that, What a way to start the year coach. Yeah, that was that was pretty special. You know, we wanted to come out and run the ball, obviously and for, uh, we can to pop that when the way you did. That was just the, uh I don't know if you could ask for a better start for the season. Well, 264 yards a career high, obviously, but what I thought was very impressive As this game unfolded, coach was Kenneth would pop run of 50 yards and another one of 30 yards. In the fourth quarter. So obviously a young man that, uh, got a little rust and gets stronger as the ball game goes on. Yeah, he's he's a relentless competitor and You know he practices that way as well. I mean, I've never seen him take a playoff for low. Uh, since he's been here, I mean the day he walked in the door with his In the in the weight room and all of the officers and conditioning workouts. He was, and he's always goes full tilt. And so if he just a if you if you practice that way And you know, it gives you a better chance to have success and success in the game. And so you know, we weren't surprised by what we saw and for his efforts for all the right reasons. He was named the Big 10 offensive Player of the week. Meanwhile, uh, you give the starting assignment of Peyton Thorn, making his second career started their QB position 15 to 25 coach. Goes for 185 yards, one score What I thought was impressive, And during the course of the week we discussed his poise carrying over from last year. Under duress. A couple of times he did the right thing. He lived for another play and got rid of it. So that's nice to see. Yeah, He did a solid job for us. Um, you know, obviously, you know, we, you know, there's so many areas of our of our team where we just need to with you to improve. And we're going to do that. But, you know, he ran a good show. He took care of the football play with a lot of poise. Um, like you said, a couple of times. He just threw it. He just threw it away, which is smart. There was a couple of times he had a little a little pressure. He stepped up in the pocket, kept his arms down Phil and delivered the ball. And so you know, you can see that he's uh, you know, he's gotten better. He's grown. He's mature. You know, he thought he was going to continue to do that. He's still a young player. Joe Johnson, Uh, offers a coordinated quarterbacks coach is, you know, done a phenomenal job with him. And you know, he and afternoon Russo both, uh you know, we're playing at a high level when we came out account. Was anxious to see the former running back Connor Hayward at that tight end position, and I was not disappointed coach and I'm sure the the staff wasn't either. Three receptions, but I found it interesting. What a great seal block he had. On the second score of the evening, Kenneth Walker goes left and it was a wonderful blocked by Connor Hebert. That was something Yeah, Connors has done a fantastic job for us. You know, He's just He's a very talented football player he can do. He's very versatile. He's in his unselfish player. He's a real team guy. You know he's doing up and tells the job for us, Uh, on on on office, you know and blocking, you know, Eat. Uh, you know, out and out in the route, you know, he's very productive. He's leading, um, minute and also he's given given us production on special teams. So, um, you know, I really appreciate you know what he's doing for us right now. And I'm just looking forward to seeing him continue to progress. Defensively. Obviously savior Henderson, uh, the find safety. Very active. Jacob Slade. Couple of batted balls after the ballgame, Coach. You said you and your staff couldn't wait to look at the film. And I'm sure you saw relentless football responsible football. We were talking about turnovers, just the one fumble that was obviously questionable, Severe hit. Harold Joyner there in the fourth quarter and just five penalties your thoughts overall on that opening performance. Yeah, Overall, we were part of our of our players the way they handled the first campus season. Um and, uh and and the effort did they did they gave him the game from start to finish? Felt like our conditioning was was was very good, And that's a credit to our strength and conditioning Coach and our nutrition program. And and the kids, the work that they put in the what they prepared and practice to be able to play four quarters. 60 minutes in the game. We saw that, um, you know, obviously, you know, there was there was there was lots of areas for improvement. Um, and we're already you know, and in that process of correcting those things that We? We didn't do properly, um and working to get better. You know, we're still working progress. Coach cannot wait to see a pack. Spartan stadium come Saturday. Oh, it's going to be something else. The Penguins of Youngstown state coming in. We'll preview that Friday. I know you've got to run little meeting to go to. I've got nothing going on. I could be here for hours. But, coach, We'll talk soon. Thank you. Thanks, Coach. Here. Thank you so much. Go Green. Go away. White coach Mel Tucker MSU, beating Northwestern 38 to 21 Tailgate nine A.m. Saturday in East Lansing. Of course, uh, and will be there along with Steve Courtney, if he gets through this day, which is a national beer lovers day And who knew, Lord? Yeah.
