"Going one over masks. Some Americans refused to wear the deciding their freedom, not to the other one about getting kids back to school. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on Fox News Sunday said Kids need to get back to you in person instruction. They've fallen behind this spring. We need to ensure they're back. In a in a classroom situation wherever possible and whenever possible, But Dr Tom Ingles, be director of the Center for Health Security at Johns Hopkins said also on Fox States have been preparing for that. But there are still some uncertainties about transmission in schools. In some states, positive rates are still spiking. The president says federal funding could be withheld if schools don't plan to open fully and on time. Colonel Scott Fox News for the first time in nearly two decades and execution is being planned for today at a federal prison. "And why? How and why you know. Let me let me let me put this in in in ice way away there but there were there were. There was a draft. Miami was going away. They were looking to find players. I had surgery. The surgery didn't go. Well the doctor that did my meniscus tear gave me a bone bruise so I was coming back from that and the drafts going on. I'm in the locker room and the raps going on this is Colorado just made a trade. I looked over and I said that traded me. And they're like no no no I go yes. That mother traded me. I knew as soon as I said it. I go that he traded and ten minutes later. I get a phone call You've been traded to New York. I'm like you've gotta be kidding me so I got traded. They forgot to inform. The coach at the time forgot to inform that had surgery. The surgery did not go well. I was injured. I wasn't ready to play all those little details. Got Left out of the Hayward Trading Marcello. He's good to go so you know what I mean so I got there. It was okay I got there. The doctor looked at the surgery. And he's like what did he do can then he showed me? The meniscus tear you had is still in the same spot he some. Un and fix something completely different so he basically ended my career. I went. I tried to play in every day. Got Worse and worse. I had a bone bruise at had just enough of a little nick. They got bigger and bigger. I got to a point where they put me on crutches for almost two months so that piece of the bone would heal itself so if I would have kept on trying to plant snapped it and I could have ruined the knee. I would have been hobbling so at the end of the year. I got healthy enough that I think we played New England and I got to play like literally thirteen. I felt so bad I felt so bad because we're not giving myself to a team. I give everything I have and I couldn't give I couldn't give the metrostars anything because I went in injured and just couldn't thought you know you get those feelings in a career you just. That was probably one of the worst feeling I've ever had fourteen because I just felt like I let that whole team down the fans organization. Everybody off a off a coach. Who was lying to the other teams that I was okay and I was ready to go. Should mean yeah so it was it. Was it hurt my heart because I just sat around? CouldN'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP TAB. Paid key jolly all those guys were there so I just it was. It was a rough year. Take us back to the club. We're talking about your associated with the Colorado rapids. You're there mile high. We mentioned it. They've opened their own stadium. Now over the last twenty five years. How have you seen the club change and for people who aren't from Colorado? What is the club mean to the city to the region obligation? It's a it's a club that started off slow It little by little. We've had problem with us as we've never been consistent. I think writing Charlie. I think you guys have done enough. Mls that I'm not throwing anything out there not beating my team. We just never been consistent. We haven't been that perennial playoff team. That just makes the playoffs. Five six seven years in a row. We make it a year two years. We make it two years. We don't so consistency. I think it has been the problem that we've had but But people you know I love it. I love it because it's I hope I was the first part Chris Henderson regularly. We helped start this team into where we were in old mile high to Dick's sporting goods park to sponsorship people. Talking about it You know it's not la. It's not a huge market. We're not when we don't pretend to be a layer Chicago New York but I think that we've gotten it right over the last year. I think we started off this year off. Well with two wins you see the speed we have. I think it's finally. It's that balance. We finally found that balance between young guys older style. Robin wants to play. That's almost a running gun old late your style. We'RE GONNA GO AT teams. We're going to smell them so much pace so but it means listening means everything here because the fact that there is nothing to Caribous was really at the Fox. Says we're a really small team. We were little part of it. Wherever you go now. You'll see a kid in Colorado somewhere on a soccer field. You'll see somebody wearing one of these yellow shirts or the white shirt or the burgundy shirt they even have the green ones that are out there. So it's like I said it's been a bumpy road but I think it's finally starting to for us. It's finally starting to level out by the Yellow Jersey one of my favorites the colors of the state flag. Let's talk about some of those old legends. You mentioned his name Chris Anderson. I always think that people who started with this league like post Beckham or even more recently. There's so many of those. We don't do a good enough job of reminding them how good the guys in the past right. Now Chris Anderson's just the guy who helps sign players for the San is one of the best executives in the league. But he's he is on the Mount Rushmore for meat for me for the rapids. Do you agree. You know it and Iran. You guys said we were going to do this. I went back and kind of looked at a little bit of the history. And I keep going back and I'm like we've had some pretty cool AINSI. You forget about Terry. Cooke one of the players in assists beaver Valdarrama Or Dely Valdes. We've had Peter Vermes Matt Mitcham. Steve trittschuh Marcus Hanuman. Tim Howard so I I guess I didn't know what the what the prerequisite was of getting on the saying but I have my boys. Fourteen boys right now are doing. I like them to know the history of where they represent and they're fourteen years old they're gonNa Represent Their club so I've had him go back. They can't do current player player so they've gone back in history and I've got guys that have done things on on a Mac Moscow. Chris Henderson they're doing. They're doing their homework on history. So this is this has been the fun part but I listen. I I tend to agree. I think Henderson everything. He's done national team. What he's meant to this team. I think it's one hundred seventy eight or one hundred somewhere in there. Something Games I agree I think he's probably if you look at it. The People Forget about him. I think he belongs. Her told me about him as a player. So people out there know gotta hated him because we would come back from preseason K. And we would go run to back then. I don't know if you guys remember this. We'd have to do the the Cooper test. Two Miles in twelve minutes chai exact. Listen I made a one time one. Time is a coach. Lettuce wear headsets. And I put on us and I literally had a dive across the line person or negation. He ran ten minute. He ran in ten minutes. He's afraid he's a freak of nature of the way he listen take away. We know he's technical. You Cross bright left foot. He ran but his work rate was unmarked. I I didn't know anybody at that time. That could run like she did and still smile at the end of the game. I did it one game and I think I pulled my hamstring in the mix. I couldn't do it but he did it with a smile on his face and he just took care of himself but his stamina was ridiculous and then with the speed of the double step over and he'd take you inside crosser one quick step that left in cross just the end people forget about those kind of players but what a what a fantastic player you us. I gotta go ahead. I was saying what's the rest of the Mount Rushmore but I think we already limited to one that the it's not even it's automatic. It's not even a question so we've got yourself in Chris and then feels fairly safe to say Pablo I been. I've been looking at the comments and it's been a toss up because they said Connor Casey Pablo Myself. And they're having a hard time with the fourth one because it was drew more Was Chris Henderson is it was it. Was Paul Bravo. There was repeated. That's the fourth one has been the biggest debate. But you guys just killed it. You guys agreed Henderson. So you tell me. Yeah I mean look I think Pablo has to be there and what a blessing to the rapids of a couple Argentine flavor yeah team so Pablo got to be there for what he did as a player certainly and then the coaching stuff is just a different sort of beastie might even be the coach also coach of this team but then it gets tough cause connors. The all time leading score drew or is among the most decorated players in this league. History has an up and coming which makes makes a massive difference in just saying that. It's a tough one because there there's been a lot of quality players and then forget. Listen I'm forgetting vicinity Sanchez. I'm forgetting I'm forgetting it's quality like tim how you could throw Tim Howard in all these players that quality it's overall it's everything it's it's impact on the field. Maybe Young Chevy to keep your hands like the fans. It's everything four guys that you look at Colorado rapids like that is the definition of Colorado. That's who people think of when you think of Colorado rap yeah so Pablo. That's a tough question because everybody looks at different every. Listen this people out there that hate me. There's people that love me just say. Hey Charlie they love Charlie the way play. It's just reality. I agree I think Pablo I I I. I still think conor Casey for what he has done in everything you know what I mean. He went from the coach Assistant. Coach took over the team saw again. I think it comes down to like it like I said Connor Casey. You guys said me. Pablo and then the last one. It's the last one it's Chris. Anderson drew more people Valderrama there. There's a lot of guys that have been really really liked. It just depends on you know what I mean. I'm always a fan of going back and appreciating what? A guy like Chris Henderson did because I think guys like that. We're not the big stars they were. They were the hard workers. They're good players. There were national team players. But when you talk about the rapids it was revealed around you know what I'm saying. The CINTAS Sanchez. It was those players but Chris. Without Chris. I don't think we would have done half the things we done. Because he was such a distraction because they worried so much about him on the outside that had opened up a lot for Bravo for rescinded for for Delhi. Bow Dez. So yeah kind of kind of agree that I think drew. Moore's right there. Don't get me wrong. I think drew. Moore's right there but I think Henderson to me because also seventy nine caps with the national team. I mean it's all around that figure that you say he's he's e- he's done a lot for this game. We're going to have to debate. This are among ourselves. We gotta just battle this thing. Maybe in the locker room scream at each other a little bit. I got a template Charlie. That's not happening. There's no I got one question Marcello. Yeah over the course of your career was the toughest guy to defend it. I'm lost for you because you made it look easy but who gave you trouble every single dime and like. I blamed everybody else when it wrong. No listen I I think that I think there was quite a few. You know when all that was always difficult to mark because of what he did Moreno was harder mark. He was a different type of player. Louis Hernandez when he came into lake because of his pace so the only difference between then and now as I can kick the crap out of him back into foot. These guys and I'd get worse. I'd get a yellow card. You know what I mean but you know. That's that's A. that's a tough one. Because even going against John Spencer in practice was was difficult he was quickey was just very agile. Mama do the all owned by Lord? Was he a monster to mark. You know what I mean. So it's it's there's been quite a few in that in that league that you would put in that that chewed three because everyone had a little some different when all the head deceiving pace when Alderwood slow you down I two steps he could run by means saw and then again who was feeding them the ball it would put it in behind so there was there was there was there was quite a few that Her tato that was difficult in recent pfleger stuff. Democracy always buzzed around everywhere. But Yeah I would say that I mean you look at that for me. Miranda was not easy was not easy Tamar. We've seen a lot of the mark you Charlie. I was happy..

Chris Henderson Colorado Connor Casey Pablo Chris Charlie Chris Anderson Tim Howard Mount Rushmore Paul Bravo New York Colorado rapids Sanchez Hayward Trading Marcello Miami Steve trittschuh New England soccer coach Assistant Iran

"Chris Simms is gonna join me by cell phone device in about thirty minutes on an ordinary day under ordinary circumstances in ordinary times would be on TV right now and he and I would be bantering about something stupid he did over the weekend or how much we do smoke or something like that we're not on TV because of the code nineteen situation the decision originally was made by NBC to not have a live show through Friday of this week I have a feeling that's gonna last even longer and maybe longer after that there's a point where if there is a national quarantine I raised this question last night with both radio and TV producers how do we produce content if people can't go to the studio how do we do the radio show I could do it from home but somebody has to be at the studio in California to press the button and make it all work it's not something that I can do from my house I think we've come up with a way to create video even if there's no one at the studio to capture it on camera I just got to my studio turn the lights on we'll have my wife for my son to my dog hold the camera and I'll do videos that way we can send it to somebody from N. B. C. they can put it in the right packaging and we can put it on the website obviously we can work on the website we can post content anywhere any place any time we don't need someone to be anywhere for that but once we get to a point where the government says you can't leave your house unless you're one of the store to the pharmacy to get gasoline it's gonna be an exception for people who work in TV and do all the networks go off the air at that point surely there has to be a way to allow our means of communication to survive now some may prefer that the networks all shut down and that we would only rely on Twitter accounts for news but there's gotta be some sort of a media exception now for news media for sports media who cares no sports happening I wouldn't be surprised if there's no exception applies and we can't do TV we can't do radio we can't do anything other than what we're able to cobble together through our own devices like I can record a podcast on my phone I can send it to Matt Casey the PFT live core data producer and he can he can post it from his computer and we can we can get content out there that we're we're trying we're trying to do here I personally unselfishly I'm trying to maintain my own routine as best I can but also we know that we're part of the routine for plenty of you and we're trying to keep the I can't tell you how many emails I've gotten I've tried to answer all of them this weekend people asking us where our way why are we on NBCSN and the bulk of them come from folks in the UK who were saying where are you on sky I have no idea what kind of numbers we generate on Skype but based on the emails I get there's a lot of people there that watch the show on sky I don't know why we appreciate it and I'm trying to make sure they understand that we'll be back at some point but that at the same time from now we won't be on in there are are ways to get the content for example what Sims and are going to do today because Kristen Coleman is coming into the studio and she's gonna be there most of the day to do video support for whatever happens in free agency Sims and I will record videos today he's going to do it from his house I'm gonna do it from my home studio and we're probably gonna do I bet we do in our of just talking about the various topics of interest he's gonna wanna say what he's got to say I'm gonna repeat some of the things I've said today plus whatever else I think about over the next hour or so once the shows off the air for the day and we're gonna have something that will feel like PFT live that will be posted in chunks and also in one big continuous peace at profootballtalk dot com that's the best we can do right now but we're trying to do we can to help you maintain your routine your sense of normalcy during these crazy times and you know it was always kind of this vague not not look it it could be a lot worse I mean it could be the a ball of virus it has a much higher death rate and will will will chill you regardless of age or pre existing health condition but just the idea that we get plunged into this strange New World Bank it's always been this kind of vague like four how's it gonna happen what's going to happen what's gonna feel like and I don't I don't know that there's anything anyone can do that can prepare them for when we are creatures of habit we get thrust into change circumstances and we do all we can to try to deal with them and we try to be smart and we listen to the guidance of state local and federal government and we just wait and we help we help we've heard so much talk about the spike and flattening the curve we don't want hospitals to be overrun with covert nineteen cases to the point where they lack the capacity to properly deal with all the patients we want to flatten out now it's phenomenon's gonna be here for a while but if you can fly in and out you never have the health care system overrun and I really do hope that when it's all said and done it's like Y. tu ke arah Capone's vault and that the people who are the naysayers now the firm in the yellow in the Yoko Ono crowd can turn around and say well you guys all overreacted okay boomer wait over react immer good good that's the best possible outcome to be derided by millennials who claimed we over reacted is the best possible outcome I pray that that's the outcome I will wear their scorn as a badge of honor if these measures avoid a nightmare scenario the NFL the the new league year begins later day franchise tags there are still plenty of tags to be applied we're writing something a P. F. T. listing all the guys who have yet to be tagged teams have until eleven fifty nine fifty nine to apply the tag and then anyone who isn't tag instantly can negotiate an agreement in principle with a new team unless something happens this morning I'm still bracing for the possibility that something will happen this morning that will result in pause being pressed on all of this they have until noon eastern and really they can pause they can prosper as or press pas pas press on it afternoon eastern if they want to put the cleanest thing to do is is is if they're going to slam on the brakes do it before noon eastern my understanding is the union and the league will still be talking again this morning the union has resisted delaying the start of the year and the league as a practical matter has resisted trying to entice the union with a concession or something else to do it and is instead blaming the union for the fact that the lead years going forward so that's where we are the union I don't know I don't call it a good news I don't know because the vote was so closely challenge the it's good news for the word yes it's bad news for the people who voted no one thousand and nineteen voted yes to ratify the CBA nine hundred fifty nine voted no that's a spread of sixty sixty votes made the difference and I really do believe that the vote would have been no but for everything that happened last week unrelated to football and that the rare opportunity for the players to pounce on a deal that the league would never put on the table right now they would not put this deal on the table if they could be yanked the deal they would have I know players realize that and they voted yes to lock this thing in because what happened was and this was and I got to say what I believe a PR failure by the NFL Players Association to sell and it's not necessarily external PR its internal PR getting the leadership on board with a deal that the leadership negotiated how do you go from having the executive committee negotiate this agreement to the executive committee voting against the agreement the board of player representatives barely approve this thing for a full rank and file vote and the PR which would have played out publicly but really was aimed at the players that's where the NFLPA lost the battle because once you have J. J. watt saying hard now and Russell Wilson saying pass and other star players influencing players to vote no players who are just following the lead of the leaders and I get the impression this was kind of a team by team thing if you had a team leader who saying you gotta vote now how do you separate your reaction to someone you refer to in a locker room and on the football field how do you separate that and declined to for to your team leader in a different setting it's hard to do so a lot of guys who frankly should have been voting yes if they were voting based upon their own interests they voted now and but for the crash and and I think at some point what we're gonna get and I don't know what will be published and what won't be public but I think at some point there will be a leak or an announcement of the voting trends that are gonna have the names but because this is all done electronically we can see day by day how many votes were cast where they yes remain up day one how many yes how many no day to how many S. how many now to be interesting to see that graph now I don't know that it's ever gonna be publicized because it was a landslide no the first few days and then it turned around that the the union also thinks that the side by side comparison that was published last week when they decided to extend the voting by two days in a van accident the voting by two days from Thursday night to Saturday night this probably ends up as a no but I think there's a belief that the side by side comparison that was published made a difference as well that was Monday but I think the big difference came between Wednesday and Thursday enough players realized we just got to take this deal it's it's a no brainer it's simple we've just got to take the deal and now they have and the deal was in place through the twenty thirty season with one caviar as I mentioned earlier in the show Russell Okung former member of the executive committee former candidate for president of the union filed a claim with the labor relations board last week alleging bad faith practices by the union he's hired Peter Ginsberg who is the kind of lawyer who doesn't show up to not sue he he shows up what is he doesn't show up to not see lot of negatives there he's gonna so he R. file suit someway somehow and somebody over all of this and I don't know what Russell Okung in Ginsburg at this point can do to overturn the outcome of the CBA my guess is without researching the issue it's very difficult but it's still not done and see how it plays out also before we break we have some some good news a small shining light in a river of crap last week it was Matt Casey who welcomed Michael Connor Casey to the world his wife Alexis gave birth on Tuesday the tenth Monday the sixteenth Diana Jean Guerrero first thing she did was poop on mom's chest and has already spit up all over her dad that is the text message from stats he has sent a picture the baby is extremely cute I. T. it does not look like him so congratulations to stats who will be off at least this weekend maybe next week now that his baby has arrived in Hey we gotta find our good news where can folks and we got to try to keep a positive mindset yeah I'm I'm already kind of a hermit anyway and the adjustment for me really isn't all that significant but I know for a lot of the people these are gonna be crazy times especially when you're talking about not being able to do your job and and I I was encouraged last night to hear the democratic presidential candidates pushing hard for this idea of making people whole now from an accounting standpoint an administrative standpoint of bureaucratic standpoint how that happens but if there's a way to make sure that that people who well not have income because they are not able to work at all and they can't work from home I'm all for it do what we have to do to take care of those people and one last point before we break now that we've covered some good news if there's national quarantine or a quarantine in California or Nevada how the stadium to get finished the stadium LA on told ahead of schedule they had the full staff out there on Friday working when the order comes down that thou shalt stay home unless you want to.

"Know coming here under the guise of playing under hudson and now being under an american manager who might have more domestic team team other than some key european stars khanna like we saw with toronto f._c. Albeit with canadian stars given the rosser situation that toronto had and obviously if the new york red bulls outside outside of the big. G._p.'s tom terry on res and the not is it was it tim cahill the australian. I think yeah tim k hill as well so oh you know there's a decent possibility mark that tommy smith is playing and has to impress robin fraser to get his twenty twenty contract option exercise. Oh danny wilson there were some rumblings about interest and maybe the rapids could get out from under his twenty twenty guaranteed contracts. They're looking at that whereas jack prices head right now since i assume there's at least one middling championship or league one club that would probably be willing to take a flyer on him and there's a bunch of american players who didn't really rate for or connor casey or even anthony hudson for an extended period that i think would have value within this league is a trade ad set. We've talked about actual shubert. We've talked about concern. Maybe even a for example and then i guess now we'll get into this markelle. Everybody was back with the rapids is training today. I was at training and reported on this. The homegrown home-grown bassett and sebastian andersen last week were sent down for the remainder of the season were immediately recalled nikki jackson back from charlotte independence. Every single player who who had a first team contract for twenty twenty with the rapids at the start of the season was in training and robin frazier. I think this week is going to be taking a full audit of the players players what they have and everything and that's going to color how he approaches the game against new york and everything else in. I'm assuming the court ford was not there air or if he was there was not i did not see court for it. At training i also did not see excuse me so life fact check thank you mark. I did not see court forty hordic training and then obviously tim howard would have been on your television right about noontime. Talk about champions league folks so those players were not there. Declan win was president but he was not actively participated in training. He's coming back from injury. <hes> and then kai kamara was there but he checked out a little bit earlier mark on he has has <hes>. I don't know if you saw this but he made up with the sierra leone federation about that where potentially he was gonna get suspended indefinitely so he's good to go. He'll be with them for their world. Cup qualifier as will go out to buy who's been playing very well the last month or so switchback so they'll both be unavailable on international duty not so i presume kyw will probably be serving that suspension for the red card against ourselves not this weekend but against the is it. The sounders or is it toronto ronald seed. It's coming up next. I want to say it's i think it's the sounders that are coming up on the week's from saturday. Well done okay. I'm i'm with that mark. I think it's probably time for us to give our listeners. The rundown of robin frazier's resume as a soccer player and head coach. Shall we do it aright listeners. Robin frazier is was born in kingston jamaica u._s. player internationally. He played from nineteen eighty eight to two two thousand. One only had twenty seven caps of the center back was not much of a feature in any of the major world cup qualifiers off the top of my head. At least he was not a part of the nineteen ninety-four squad where he potentially would have overlapped with marcelo balboa grew up in miami actually went to miami palmetto high school. Just a couple of miles away from the university. Miami was an f._b._i. Golden panther at the college level spent some time with the miami sharks was later with the colorado foxes wearing the old school green in the mid nineties nineties mark and then when emily came into existence in one thousand nine hundred six he signed with the galaxy was.

"You. It's the hope that things will change and then things ultimately not changing that kills you so in that listeners we are currently twenty thirty four through the twenty nineteen Colorado rapids season that mathematically reduces now to ten seventeenth. The rapid are in eleventh in the Western Conference nine points below the red line. They have twenty points on their twenty games played and then. I guess an even <hes> I don't. I don't know what it's called when it's mirrored but it's it's a record of five ten in five so that be is that a pal Andro Mark Yeah I think so or is it not a pal Andro because digitally it's five one zero five as opposed to if it was five eleven in and five maybe in any case the rapids of five wins and losses and five draws they have a negative nine goal differential and relevant to their home game this week. They are five near four five and two at home. They'll be taking on New York City of see mark who are currently seventh length in the Eastern Conference last team above the red line. They have twenty nine points of eighteen games played a seven three eight record with a plus nine goal differential and a road record of three two and four New York City of C. is kind of similarly had a very up and down season mark. They started off absolutely terribly at one point leadership from city football group was attending a couple of games home and away for N._Y._C. and there was thought that don't make Toronto who took over for Patrick Vieira last summer was going going to be completely on the outs and they went on an absolute tear. I think they had an all competition thirteen games unbeaten and then just recently had to really really gutty losses. They lost in P._K.'s at Orlando in the U._S.. Open Cup and the quarterfinal the final that would have been there first semi final appearance in that tournament and then they just lost the Hudson River Darby on the weekend on Sunday to New York Red Bulls to one on a very controversial goal from Daniel Royer in the sixty th minute. I'm sure you saw now this mark where the assistant the Linesmen Call P._K.. Or excuse me call a corner towards the N._Y._c. of the end of play the head official overrule that in called it a throw in relay that via his yes did not make the over the hand throwing motion relayed. That's the headset to linesmen who then told I think it was Alex Mule who took the throw in so New York City of C._C.'s. The call for corner is setting for a corner with their backs turned to play New York. Red Bulls are aware that it is a throw and take the throw in quickly and then all of a sudden Christian is sending an across Daniel Royer. Alexander Callans isn't realizing what's happening and then Roy your heads the ball all in Newark Red Bull's go on to win the game to one display by the way folks whether something was a corner or a throwing not reviewable by V._R. and it was an open play. There were no whistles. I don't know how to feel about this one mark because I feel like I'm very plate of the whistle standpoint. If I don't see a whistle always clicked in I'm also normally a wide player who's not defensively offensively in my recklessly contributing to in the box of so I wouldn't necessarily be setting up of vocab. Are We zone. Should I be in particular area man-marking okay. WHO's The guy who I'm normally marking where they coming up so to speak? I'm not someone who's marking the backpost. I'm someone who's on the outskirts so naturally am looking at where the ball actually is and I would have been a little bit more attentive to that the players who were in a position to defend the New York Red Bull's throw in where the players who mentally were setting up for the for the setpiece sn everything ultimately New York City ends up losing so a team that prior prior to a couple of weeks ago. Mark was on an absolute hot-air now on a little bit of slump. They still have very very stacked. Lineup domain has been shifting with the with the lineup market times. They're in a four to three one at times. They're in a three four one onto that quickly turns into a three four three depending on what maxine Morales is doing maximizes silver number ten they brought into very fantastic are three really fantastic. Attacking players Herber is their main number nine and they also have who's mostly been coming off the bench Alexander retreat. He wasn't in the eighteen on Sunday so maybe he's injured and then cost. Janos was their big Argentinian acquisition. WHO's been fantastic? They've got the Scandinavian trio in the form of Alexander Ring Anton Timur home who normally patrol things in the midfield innocent Imagawa is kind of their starter Dylan Cerna if that makes sense sometimes. He's a winger sometimes these in the midfield sometimes he's an outside back maxine Sonoma and Alexander Callans. Are there rocks at the back then obviously they've got Sean Johnson who is the regular backup right now for the U._S.. Men's national team behind Zach Stephan on the back live and a wide player who I am very excited about seeing on Saturday Mark Allah Ronald Matt Tarita who's as a very dynamic young player in his kind of sharing time with Ben Sweat. This is a team with a lot of international flavor mark. This is a team that is very dynamic in terms of some of their movement and you know it was widespread as far as the map and level of experience that they have and prior to this past week domain Iran really had them playing his system and it transitioned out of Patrick Vieira system and you know they're in a position where they're in. They're going to compete for the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. This is a game that they're going to be looking at wanting to get a result over their opponents but also one of their first names in a while playing at altitude. What do you see an N._y._c. of see what do you see in their up and down season and what do you see in terms of what they can do? vis-a-vis the rapids at the Dick on Saturday <hes> I think he's set it up real. Well Maximum Saleh's thing to remember about him is that he might be. He might be the smallest player in major league soccer. I think he sands five foot one five foot three. I believe Zhabei five two so if if so it's it's very close battle between the two for shortest player in major league soccer. He's been less unbelievably amazing than he was last year but he's still feel very very he also missed a lot of time at the beginning season with injury <hes> but he's just <hes> fantastic on the ball. He's one of those players. I was trying to come up with a term for it. <hes> during a game I watched earlier this week. Bakeware you get the ball and you dribble away from your defender and your your defender follows you and you just dribble in an exact three hundred sixty circle. It's not a spin move but somebody else said <hes>. They ought to call it a spin cycle <hes> that's a very Maxi Morales move where he just dribbles in a way that you don't that the defender doesn't follow him in the proper way he gets out position than any opens up some space for himself in the Knicks the really good pass. That's a very maxi morale's is kind of saying <hes> the other detecting about <hes> New York City. I see is the domain Iran has them playing in something like a five to three <hes> it would or or even a three four three depending on how you WanNa look at it <hes> Morales Castle on us in a bear <hes> or <hes> meet a metre who you mentioned before <hes> will kind of work off with each other up top with morale's kind of dropping in although switching off with the other guys and then you've got <hes> Alexander Ring who's been a spectacular defensive midfielder for them. He can kind of do it all which is cover a lot of ground and defend but also <hes> he's more of a a lane closure than he is a pure destroyer so diego wants to chase down the ball and tackle you mostly <hes> Alexander Ring wants to just find the exact most inconvenienced in spots stand in between the lines and be there and he's just halloway her so he's been hurrahs deo trials a linebacker. Who's GonNa absolutely let you up? Alexander Ring is the free safety who's GonNa pick you off and running back for six right or that other linebacker who who also drops back and catches interceptions or tips falls off the line like he's just he's really smart player and then I think the X. Factor for me. It's all about a central <unk> midfielders. I don't know why I'm just focus on them. Although you know you took what I would have said about Tarita that he's just a fantastic left back to watch <hes> is this new kid Keaton parks and I pulled up this this <unk> <hes> wonderful statistics from <hes> dummy run his one of the writers at <hes> American Soccer Analysis <hes> they've been running a bunch of different statistics <hes> Keaton Parks is one of the the best dribbling midfielders in major league soccer and one of the worst passing midfielders in major league soccer and I hope that the Colorado gives us that g turns over the ball statistically percentage wise in the bottom twenty percent of players his position he is he is just the kind of guy who wants to make the dangerous pass but rather than make the dangerous pass. He's just as likely to make the exceedingly Headingley dumb pass that gets even travel and I hope that Colorado does their due diligence on that in figures out how to collapse on him cut him off an exploit his weaknesses don't let him don't let him dribble at you stand off in a little bit and let him make bad passes then ram down their throat and try and get a goal in transition that would be the way I would approach his game all day long. You know cover the flanks. Don't let the Y.. Players in her home Marita beat you for speed <hes> you know put parks under under lane cutting pressure and pick your spots studying that would be and don't let Morales humiliate you with one of those fantastic little dribbles no absolutely agree with you mark whether it's Alexander Ring or the front three you know we kind of weren't a little bit of another Roszak Situation Roszak test situation where we're looking at the formation and trying to figure out what and how N._y._C. is doing it and icy. It is a three three four one two three four three and you see it as a five to three the point is that there's a lot of motion in here folks you know maxine. Morales is really the only regular one in terms of he's going to be mostly straight channel runner. He's the drizzly central number ten who connects things in but a bears going to do a bunch of different things cost the honest is going to do a bunch of different things you mentioned. Maybe some of the limitations that keyed in park has I feel like Alexander. Ring is what I think. We wanted Jack Price to be in terms of just an all. Around solid midfielder and everything you know if Alexander ring was maybe a little bit more seriously taken for Finland you know he would be Finland's. Michael Bradley Circa Twenty Thirteen for example and Anton tenor homes probably one of my favorite right backs acts in the entire league as well so I think this is going to match up kind of similar to the L. A._F._C.. Game Mark other than them not. Having a Carlos Avella N._y._C. of is very much taken up a replacing dovid via. Who Do you know did he retire? I think he went to Japan. I think Japan so they had a yeah you know it was a central number nine. He was absolutely fantastic and as opposed to just getting another number nine to fill in that spot they brought out in three other guys and move some players around so that collectively they're replacing his production but in that other than Maxim Morales there's no one guy who I'm looking at and thinking individually if Tommy Smith and and lawless Boubacar show show up that Oh crap that's a really really bad situation whether it's Kellyn Acosta will be back with the team. Obviously he played almost the ninety minutes against arsenal and I spoke with Connor Casey after the match and he said this was a good exercise for him not being being able to play on Saturday and the Physios callans young enough to where he's going to be able to play ninety minutes if nothing happens in training on Saturday so as long as somebody either individually collectively lockdown Naxi Morales. There's no individual matchup up the middle there whether it's ring a bear Kazianis or Matriochka that I'm worried about for any of the individual rapids defenders now if it's called Bassett and Danny Wilson or if your home Blomberg has to play thirty minutes in there I'm a little bit nervous if it's Kellyn Alan Acosta and maybe Jack Price for sixty minutes and then somebody else and there I'm okay as far as what's going to happen. Centrally I think the rapids are going to let and why C._F._C. have the ball they're gonNA frustrate them sensually and hopefully they tucker out after sixty minutes given all the minutes on their legs one day of rests in terms of M._l._S. competition and then obviously having a travel across country and play at altitude but then the next factor for me. Mark is who wins the wings on the Bat who wins the battle on the wings tenor home against Sam finds. That's a really they really tough match-up but Kim Jonathan Lewis ball out to the point where ten Rome has to defend a little bit more and that's a two V one situation th rapids overall win and I have to think that if Sam Nicholson's able to start in this one that Keegan Rosenberg is going to be able to negate gate Margarita or Ben Sweat enough to where they have to worry about defensive situations..

"Out. He was sucked out in the eighty seventh minute for Dylan's CERNA so we've talked about how he's probably the second most important morten attacking piece for this rapid team other than Kyw Kamara and I thought he was absolutely fantastic and he thrived and then atmosphere in which I wanNA guess is probably his first start at Providence Park so I thought he was fantastic. You know I think Andrea Shinya Sheikhi. He is gradually improved as well. You know he coulda had a goal there. Especially you know Steve Clarke had arguably three saves that were save of the week candidates on analysts play and obviously Kamara was fantastic and I know there's been and some concerns with Sam Nicholson you know he finally got over the back injury and then was for two or three weeks there had the dreaded questionable hamstring situation which could be approaching Germain Jones level of he's questionable and a week away for three the four months and then if he tweets the hamstring once more than he's out for the rest of the season so good to see him get some playing time good to see him play well independent of the goal and then also to get the goal that was fantastic. I know in the past mark I have been on apologised for Tommy Smith and for Jack Price and I think it's time for me to probably do that with Danny. Wilson Danny Wilson has quietly just done whatever the club has asked of him sense getting benched from the centreback position earlier this year. I still don't feel super great about mark but I've got a working theory. I think he is this rapids equivalent of Bagio who civic follow me on this one here mark where there's one or two things that he's just fine at he's not going to do anything special but what if you just want him to Roman that middle area at time be a second centreback don't make any critical mistakes away from goal support the centrebacks and then occasionally ping a ball to get the rapids out of a bad defensive situation and into a good offensive situation he is. It's just fine if you want him to. Be The more number eight in that double pivot if you want him to run with anybody if you want him to have to manmark individual player like a Diego Valeri or Sebastian Blanco he is absolutely gonNA fail but if you want to give Pim one simple tasks do for the whole ninety minutes another slightly more complicated tasks to do a few times the game and maybe one other thing just to do once and he is your fifth best midfielder in that four to three one on their then. He's and everybody else does their job. He's absolutely going to be fine. If you ask him to do anything else he can singlehandedly lose the game for you but in this game in the game at home against L._A.. Of See in which he scored on the set piece I think the rapids and Connor Casey you finally found a scenario where they were daniels can can be on the field for ninety minutes and be in the right situation where he can play well. He can contribute to the team and he cannot singlehandedly lose the team. The game is he a centreback for the rapids episode absolutely not is he a ninety minutes out now we tweak snorter for me. No for the role that he's playing is he worth eight Tam level contract with another guaranteed year after the season and International Rosser spot no but if Danny Wilson was your body and Hasidic making one hundred ten thousand dollars base salary no performance incentives I would have absolutely no complaints about what we've seen from Danny Wilson from the past six weeks but where I think this is critical for me. Mark is Connor Casey in bringing lawless Abu Bakar and changing a few other things found a way for Tommy Smith Q._B.. Functional contributor to this team. I think Jack Price after prior to the injury was a functional contributor to this team. This was something that Anthony Hudson had an entire year I and another off season to try and figure out he could not get that out of Tommy Smith for any extended stretch of time other than as an offensive set-piece contributor he never got that out of Danny Wilson and there were a couple. Maybe two separate eight eight weeks stretches in which he got that out of Jack Price Connor Casey is found a way to get productivity and efficiency out of some of the players that were absolute deadweight under Anthony Hudson and it is contributing to this team being a little bit more successful. Let's move onto bad thing mark. I'm going to start with this one just because you kinda highlighted on it where I agree with you that the rapids had a couple of stretches where they were better team. They had plenty of fantastic moments where at halftime I could have argued three different bounces of the ball and instead of being one. The rapids are up to kneel neil comfortably in this game so I think there were a lot of really good moments. There are a lot of really bad moments obviously to critical defensive mistakes that effectively gifted Portland goals on this one. You know other than that one chance for Brian Fernandez that he headed after I think that Tim Howard save pretty easily. You didn't get a lot of opportunities for the Portland Timbers and in that that was kind of old school rapids from earlier this season where they make too critical mistakes and immediately get punished for them one of them the own-goal one of them the P._k.. By Lawless Abu Bakar so this team is still capable of making mistakes that can singlehandedly lose the game but they've now figured out things whether it's Connor Casey whether it's some of the new acquisitions players being a little bit more efficient like the Danny Wilson the Tommy Smith missed. They're still able to overcome them and get a result. I sent out a tweet from rapids ninety six podcasts asking what people are thinking and a lot of it was collective disappointment. I'm GONNA spend this a little bit more mark. Where depending on a couple bounces the ball you could? We've had a three no victory for the rapids. You could have had a three nail loss for the rapids ultimately the rapids hats and critical mistakes that cost them points on the average between those two extremes. I'll take a point in this one yeah. I I feel like for me. The bad thing in this match is pretty simple which is <hes> Tommy Smith's header own-goal in the first half and that's pretty much yet. I mean there's nothing there's nothing more than for me. <hes> did you see tweet after the game though market as it was hysterical he he somebody said something along the lines of this was the goal of the game and he said what about mine you know like was is clever <unk> the N.. I love Richard Fleming and muscle. I think they do fantastic job calling the game and they were trying hard after the goal to figure out like what's going on there Marcello talks about how how I thought they handle it really well or are they see a rise it really all better than you or I could ever do no offense dude but <hes> that like as the defender you have to be able to recognize that the ball is knuckling on you in a funny way and you have to let it go but if you as as Fleming said if you commit there you're kind of stock like once you leap for the ball you know like the funny thing with headers is like you know you don't just I need to make head contact with that. You need to whip your head into a position where you redirect the ball and you you are putting pushing the ball into the direction you want to and somehow Tommy Smith jumped into a place where there was like nothing he could do with the ball except send it back into his own goal like he couldn't eat somehow as as he turned his head he put his head position where the only possible place to go was right into goal as opposed to rising meeting the goal hitting up in the air clearing it back from whence it came like whenever know how that is like maybe he misjudged it or Miss Titan or <hes> he was rising to just get to it and by the time he got to it he kind of had this split-second moment of uh-huh but I talk about this a lot with defenders <hes> for the last couple years when I've been writing and what have been talking on this podcast at like trouble with defenders. Is there essentially judged for one mistake right. You could have fifty five. This good moments good tackles. Good interceptions good clearances good recovery's in if you have one oops moment where you get ju two left in the player goes right or if you have one moment ullman where you slide in badly I mean you know actual schober has too bad moments again and that's why all the goals are red cards or P._K.'s if not offering and that's why he sits on the bench now like you could get lucky and have one bad moment a game and have a be forgiven because because the attacker blows it wide but the reality is you don't get too many bad moments. He kinda have to be flawless by the way to go back to good thing. Keegan Rosenberg essentially in this game was flawless. Don't want him but end to your point. You Know Danny Wilson had a very nearly flawless game. He was a very very good defensive midfielder. He had all the things you want. Not Mid do not at the price that you want but yes <hes> but like via the Tommy Smith made another mistake he also had a yellowcard against the CIA in the first half that will as dumb egregious and he also popped off in the Ellie end screaming afterwards and I got nervous as it was happening. It was like dude or we're going to have another UTAH. Confronting the bench red card situation like you know Itami makes mistakes and I don't really as much as it was cute what he said after the game. I wasn't really laughing about it. Yeah models thing well first of all I WANNA point out. I think it was the incident you're referring to. I think was against Minnesota last year where he got in the opposing benched yeah and then so just a quota for those of you we do have a few listeners who like specifically right in and say I'm not on twitter so after the Game Colorado rapids tweets out no worry about goal the week voting this week at M._l._s. less Sam Nicholson's got you covered and three like the almost like an exploding firework or like a gunshot Emoji I think and then Tommy Smith's response to that surely I've got a chance and then it's the sideways lapping with like the teary eyed so like laughing so hard art your heads tilted and then you're crying Emoji on that one so Tommy Smith is a good sense of humor is self aware about that. If nothing else twitter I think in general had a really healthy response to that as opposed to I think the usual Tommy Smith bashing the they point for me. Mark is the Portland Timbers very good team. There are very good team at home. This was a vulnerable timbers team in the sense that they've had absolute crazy schedule. I think they had between Open Cup and Lee play. I think they had three back to back Digi de G._W.'s or like they just had an insane schedule going into this game in in that they were vulnerable. There's good precedent in M._l._S. that a team that starts off on the road has a stadium renovation. Get some results on the road which the timbers did towards the end of that road stretch move into their new stadium or the renovated stadium and then effectively wreck ship on the way to making the playoffs Toronto of see when they opened up Imo field and made the playoffs for the first time with Sebastian GIOVINCO and Michael Bradley Look At D._C.. United last year with the opening of Outfield we feel than the House it a playoff game and everything I am of the belief that the Portland Timbers will be a playoff team by the end of the season and they will probably host at least one playoff name and in that they're going to be a lot of western conference teams that go to Providence Park you're and lose and then get better than also. Probably you know get wrong up as far as gold differentials concern and in a game in which the rapids imperfect in which they may to critical mistakes that gifted the Portland Timbers goals. They ended up getting a point <music> out at this one. This was a game that as soon as that P._k.. Happens for Diego Valeria in the timbers go up to one. That's game that Anthony Hudson's rapids probably end up losing three one and go out with an absolute whimper in this one so I'm taking the positive standpoint of the rapids got a point in a situation where a lot of their playoff competition will ultimately go there and get zero points the rest of the way so in that it's a slight advantage and the rapids inching towards trying to make the playoffs. What's your big thing Mark Doc? I mean the the big thing for the rest of the season is what are we. You know what's going on here and I think you know it's really hard to be in this position of like. Should I get excited about. Maybe the possibility that hopefully there's some sort of chance that we could fall into the final playoff spot like it's not a fun place to be in in this like you know. What are we twelth right now or eleventh this but we could rise to ace which also wouldn't matter but it'd be nice but it's better than losing but it's also kind of irrelevant like these are this'll weird place to be in so the kind of enjoy each game and I think <hes> Colorado rapids supporters are all kind of a long for the ride and focus in a way that we weren't when Anthony Hudson was in the dying days of of his time with the club but I very much feel like you feel like we're on the fence still about where this club is going and we've been on the fence with his club for like a month and a half? It's like six weeks of like they're doing really well. Maybe we should have hoped but hope is dangerous dangerous and I don't like it and I'd rather I'd rather not seal hopeful and then wind up getting kicked on the balls again. I think any sense but that's why pigs say yeah. wanner still has to be loaned on what we think about when we think about soccer earmark and his favorite quote and I finally got to that in the book was it's not the losing that kills you..

"That until we get to the point where either Emma's players are more M._l._S. is the league is becoming a feed early to those main the big four in Europe. I don't think we're going to see a bump and really I think it's going to take quality players at that level either on competing with to wear their as good as they are in a primarily or other players coming over here. It's no doubt that David Beckham showed up in M._l._S. and immediately they got a bump for Euro snobs in America and obviously the actual euro snobs in place. There's no doubt in my mind that English supporters either in the United States or somewhere in the British isles turn an eye towards M._l._S. When Rain Rooney started with DC united and obviously has been playing very well sense then. I don't have have a good sense we don't have a lot of data to support for or against the concept that you know if the rapids play our snow this year and then they play Chelsea next year and just you know what are the four biggest European clubs that are supported at the bulldog individuals individuals supporters groups local pub relationships for Individual Watch parties that that necessarily is going to convert a euro snob who's never set foot at Dick's into being a rapid san or at the very least paying attention a little bit more works M._l._S.. I think that's the great experiment and I think we're learning about that and we're going to get more information as we get more data points and that data becomes available at least internally to analysts are internally to the rapid just as much as you know now we know Dick's was built in two thousand thousand seven and in a little over a decade since then we have a way better understanding of how to build a Class Act Soccer Civic Stadium Habit change a club to where now Dixon L. honesty is a little bit outdated compared to what Elliott has what all the field L. hasn't. I think the events like what happened on Monday our data point that's going to be a learning point for the League teams to do those better in the same way that some of the more suburban appealing to the soccer family soccer specific stadiums emsworth data point upon which now F._C._C. Stadium and a couple of years. It's going to be off the hook yeah I mean I think it's an interesting. Take I agree with ninety percent of what you said is. It's a it's a good question as whether those people can ever be converted I I have friends. I know people who are have had conversations of folks who are they just fundamentally. Believe that anything below English premier league soccer or maybe Spain is just unwatchable just unacceptably not good enough for them and they only want to watch the best end. They're spoiled by it which blows me away because you know you. It's it's like like saying I will only eat filet Mignon. I will never ever touch a hamburger. You know God forbid I ever eat a cut of beef. That doesn't cost at least thirty five dollars a pound. It's an for me. That's insane gene principle that like the only time I ever imbibe alcohol. It's a Veuve clicquot or <unk> clicquot or or Dom perignon like needs got the best or it's rubbish like to go. All British Sean US yeah no funneling. Don't believe it but obviously I feel that way because a I support major league soccer but be I coach have coached you eight soccer like of course. I think you know that football. All is fun and worth watching and decent footballers fun and worth watching and good football's worth fun is fun and worth watching an exceptional football is fun and worth watching yeah. No I agree with you mark. I think there's a certain percentage of that group that M._l._S. buses Never GonNa win over in order for emily to do that. M._l._S. needs to supersede the primarily like these are the same people who if they watch American sports for example the only college basketball they watches Duke or North Carolina or they only watch Ohio state eight or Alabama football or you know they're only paying attention really to the N._B._A.. Finals and maybe a couple of those marquee match ups that you get on Tuesday through Thursday night and you know half of those were the Lakers this year when the Lakers were absolutely garbage and God forbid we have to watch the Denver Nuggets because the Denver Nuggets aren't the Golden State Warriors so those people I don't you can win over. I think the American based fans or I would say natural American citizens or who grew up in the U._S.. who discovered soccer through fee faux or through? You're watching you know N._B._C.. Primarily Sunday and Saturday mornings I think those people they can appeal to if they show the quality or some emotional connection to the local geography or just try to entice them in some other way in order for that to happen. There has to be that got initial. Let's actually watch a game and see something and it could be something as simple as watching a single play just as it was with you mark seeing Lee Win with a nice little jubilee moment with the New England revolution that was the way to to you hooked. I mean it's in the bio section for the articles. I put up on last forward. I see it every single week so those moments have to happen but you don't have those moments if you don't get those people in the front door and if the only way to get them in the front door is to say hey you're an arsenal fan. Arsenal is playing for the first time ever in Colorado and they might not be back here for another ten years. You need to go to the game. Even though tickets are one hundred twenty bucks. That's the way to start how you actually connect all those dots all the way to somebody buying a scarf getting a season ticket package watching these games regularly on E._S._p._N.. Plus is still still something that I think individual teams in markets and the League is a whole is figuring out but this is another data point hopefully that leads to iterative learning to where the next friendly that the rapids have is miles better than the Boca junior friendly of yesteryear the let's send this podcast straight on garber and ask him to employ both of us as the heads of strategic marketing for major league soccer not because we said anything brilliant but because we had a few thoughts and clearly were at least as qualified qualified as the folks in New York at M._l._S. soccer dot com headquarters moving onto things that are actually relevant mark listeners this past Saturday at Providence Park the newly renovated Providence Park the Colorado rapids played the Portland Portland Timbers two eight two to draw some interesting lineup changes for the rapids Jack Price Not available again for this game with a foot injury and obviously Kellyn Acosta injured as well so you have the same back for Tim Howard and goal but then it was Danny Wilson and coal whole Bassett in the devil pivot and then you had Jonathan Lewis back for the first time with the Burgundy Boys left-winger standpoint and then you also had a at least the big highlight for me even before he came into the game and ultimately got the appoint for the Rapid Sam Nicholson on the bench and then relieving Andre Shinya Sheikhi a very back and forth affair mark one with lots of great moments for both teams and one with lots of bad moments for both teams opening twenty minutes a little bit cagey a lot of possession in for the Portland Timbers but nothing in the way of clear-cut chances until the twenty seventh minute when Tommy Smith let's in possibly the own goal of the season at least the own goal of the year for the rapids with a thumping header. If he had scored this on the timbers we'd be talking about it as goal the week and one of the highlight reel opera -tunities for the rapids for the season just a mistimed header and lawless Abu Bakar was right there and maybe it was a miscommunication Tommy Smith thumps it into the side-netting and then falls to the ground immediately realize oh crap. I did a bad thing one minute later Jonathan Lewis scores off of kyw Kamara whipping pass and then getting the ball into a good position with numbers Jonathan Lewis takes advantage of an errand clear clearance on a header by a center back from the Portland Timbers not a whole lot in the second half but I think overall the rapids lucky to be at one one but also a little bit unfortunate. You had a couple of good opportunities especially. I want to say it was the thirty four th minute. When you had Andre Shinya cheeky you know effectively on a one timer? Jonathan Lewis that Steve Clarke saves and then there's a follow up header on that play from kyw Kamara. Kamara had a brace in the first half mark then it was a p._k.. Opportunity for Diego Valeri in the sixty third minute off of a handed unnatural proposition from Abu Bakar who's battling with someone that was after a fifty five minute red card to Julio Coskun say for a scissors tackle definitely violent conduct on kyw Kamara Mar lucky to not be injured in that one at that point the rapids up a man but also down a goal similar situation against the Portland Timbers but no snow in this one and then substitute Sam Nicholson comes in great diagonal ball by Danny Wilson Nicholson dribbles with it gets around his defender cuts inside and then an absolute laser sir on the foot in the seventy six minute. The rapids had the better the play in the final fifteen for me mark but ultimately weren't able to get something I think fairly but chaotically to draw Mark Goodman. What was your good thing from this game against the Portland Timbers? Wow I just really liked a there are a lot of things I like about this game. I like I mentioned that when Portland played L. A._F._C.. They Kinda went toe to toe. I thought that the rapids except for some shaking in the first fifteen minutes also went toe to toe that it was a very even game <hes> they did not kind of do the bunker encounter as much although they did to some degree seed possession to Portland Orland which is natural to the team that is at home <hes>. I thought Sam Vines played very well at left-back I think he is coming into his own becoming comfortable. <hes> there was a <hes> just a a that first goal was just beautifully worked and really well done very quick very <hes> it was like you put players Rondo or five e to <hes> and just said do who's at move it down the field and I really enjoyed that <hes> and then there's one last thing that I really WanNa highlight. Maybe I'm stealing away from my big thing. which I don't really know is going to be at this point <hes> but I thought there was a tactical adaptation that I'm not sure anybody else outside spoken to or heard from mentioned which is that Connor Casey put the team in effectively a four one four one <hes> formation and they he put a Danny Wilson Jason Between the lines as that loan defensive midfielder which basically meant that if a Portland player wandered into that space between the lines where a lot of soccer players especially attacking soccer players are very dangerous <hes> Wilson picked them up and neutralize them so that meant that Sebastian Blanco or Brand Fernandez or anybody who kind of wanted a like the Valeri ended at zone <hes> <hes> got picked up a neutralized? I felt like a this was Connor Casey and his team of coaches watching a lot of film between matches in the last passed in the past week and saying you know our regular other setup isn't GonNa work here. The way to neutralizes teams do this and I thought that the ability to be flexible and adapts tactically to the opponent was hardening was exciting. It didn't exactly work of course because we didn't emerged with a win but to be frank and maybe a little bit tough. I don't think Anthony Hudson would've ever done that. I don't think <hes> Anthony Hudson believed in adjusting tactics for the opposing team came to the degree that Connor Casey displayed he that you should in this game <hes> and I thought all those things were good things. Honestly I walk away from this game thinking that a Portland is basically after having seen how Portland played against L. A._F._C.. In the open cup feeling like <hes> Portland is a very good team. The rapids went toe to toe with them and played very well against them and I thought it was harboring all around Matt. What are your thoughts? That's on this match. Your your good things <hes> yeah I wanNA start with the wing. Play that something that I've been hyping up really sense Connor Casey took over you know Jonathan Lewis back for his first match starting since the Gold Cup call up and didn't really they get a lot of opportunities but also didn't really miss a beat other than not playing the full ninety minutes. I was overall impressed with him or did he get subbed out..

"Questionable at time i think it's all the foul 'em coming off the the laugh i can't remember off the top of my head that's the that's the way you go out which is colorado in getting behind they may be a little bit stronger at center back so a you just hopefully you can you could exploit them 'em and i think this is another one we haven't talked about much but gain states is important important in analysts we don't talk about it a lot it's very important 'em whether you start off empathy other team under pressure by going up one male versus falling behind m colorado's actually been greedy decent this year when they go behind i have not looked up six 'em but that's a good thing to kind of think about of a you know a this is a team that you know in the past had the count on getting one goal m holding on for dear dear life and now they're a team that can go down one nil a comeback even go down to kneel and come back so but you on the road you really wanna get that league goal and a worst portland tap the combat match you 'em it allows colorado in their current a bunker encounter situation instead a little bit deeper so i think so hope here is that you you strike first i think maybe the most important thing in this game yeah no i think matchups you're definitely gonna be critical nickel and this one mark you know we mentioned you know brian fernandez definitely a fault nine on this you know he's not gonna be playing back the goal trying to win headers against while it's awful boxcar anna tommy smith you know he's only lisi's listed at five foot nine he's twenty five years sold for comparison sebastian block those five foot seven right next to me diego larry's five foot ten and then depending on who we see on the wing you've got their honest berea who's m five eleven and i feel like jeremy above a season that categories well they both these six feet tall so what's really impressed me about what portland done since brian fernandez comment is a rotation but they have a larry definitely not as mobile you need so when we talked a couple of weeks ago about the type of number ten carlos vela in valeri still that 'em it's still mostly a central attacking playmaker you know he's gonna get the ball from diego chart where one of these fullback cut again and then he's gonna try and connect the dots and somebody else but in the chambers four to three one pretty much any one of those other three guys in that front or can rotate the shoes well so we talked about how you know sebastian blanco can be all over the field and he got in touch you know from touchline touchline brian fernandez gonna be a very bold number nine they could have some give and take and then with jeremy oversee being deployed on the wing really because a deal that puts together a few players the other three players in that front for in their best this geneva see can also move forward so maybe comes in at the stop her brian fernandez if something happens we wanna change something where maybe confidence wing and then you just got way more rotation in there in that i think the rapids are going to be a challenge similar to what they saw again lsd were carlos vela andy rossi are gonna be all over the field and really the only only consistent thing you're gonna see it's whoever that number nine in the middle is going to say mostly central larry's got a multi central i have no idea what anybody else is gonna be you can't just simply say fan behind her job at the shutdown under honest breath you need to be extremely specially wherever whoever's on that deal and how they're rotating and how they're changing something the backs at a very good job against lsd something that multiple astros is because of circumstance they did not did they did not do very well again donating revolution lucian other big concern i have going into the game mark 'em you know a talent akasa will be suspended for that match and as i reported on saturday jack price and so week to week with that foot injury and then you've got that situation with valeri end go try in the middle and we talked about how that number ten position underneath stryker in the horror for one one whatever you wanna call the guy central next the kite mara has kind of changed personnel at that that's been a different person an it ban when a lot of mixed results what do you see in terms of individual matchups without concern giving personnel issues the rapids are going are dealing with those positions in the basic function is that you're gonna start either 'em wilson or facet or both of them 'em you could do some funky experimentation though you could try and see what nicolas makita pushed back further looks like he noted 'em a a you could try tommy smith as more of a defensive midfielder and that kind of like truly or idea i mean i personally think the juilliard is much better 'em center back then she as a as a defensive midfielder fielder 'em but you know there are some aspects and tommy smith game set are a you know he likes the swing along a ball and he could he could ask very well and he's sara lee mobile 'em his short pass thing is sometimes questionable national but 'em i think he he could also be filling in that role that assumes the the rapids they're gonna wanna put somebody else back there at cetera back only options aren't many you know sacks will schober who's had a really bad season so far so i dunno a how would you feel in that spot i i think the rapids have a pretty good deep midfield but they don't have a deep midfield when it comes to defense midfielders because anthony hudson's license and lynnfield and got rid of law who would you who is you start as you're as you're midfield or yeah 'em i think a i i have a debate about it in terms of where i start in but i think nicolas mikita has to be written in sharpie her arm connor casey in starting eleven in this one played so many years of vancouver whitecaps he's going to be more familiar with that stadium even with the renovation than any of the rapids players because no other player on the rapids has a no no player the rapids at all has played in that stadium sent renovated you'll be very familiar you're with what giovanni separate say is doing as a head coach and some of the players on there so i think you'd want the familiarity so i think in that obviously camaros starting i would put nichols eat a m in there as well i probably start eat up on the wing initially just have 'em just because without scrappy is i think giggle rubio is going to be a or in terms of be conquer capping and the chippiness and the chatting off the ball in the dark arts that diego draws you do i think of any of the players on the rapids for somebody going up the middle i think rubio is going to thrive in that you know aside their reveals very feature pam and in that sense he was really pissed off in the game on thursday an you gotta go on a set piece or you know he's gonna punch somebody in the face possibly so i would air on the side that he learned from that mistake in the game against or sell where he got his first red card and he said on a couple of weeks after they said that's the first time in my life i ever punch the guy in the face so i think him against ego draws probably the best individual matchup frustrating chara getting him in a yellow car persist in richmond sandpoint and getting fouled coming up yelling at him and being so all dude i'm gonna get that chance the final third and i'm gonna bury and i'm gonna look at you and i'm gonna be like yeah what's up what's up i'm rubio video like okay so rubio's sentimental i'd put nichols makita on the right in that on the right side of the field and then just because i think he's the best option and we have it left back in her left midfield end because he's relatively well rested compared to the rest of the squad might have jonathan lewis starting back in coming back from the gold cup on the left and in the middle i probably start with danny wilson in cold bassett end it might be a hold on here but like let's see if you're blumberg can come in there and just paying a couple of good passing the get us out of that situation you know if i were connor casey i'm probably check in every single day winter physios did if you know jack price can at least make the trip and worst case scenario be on the bench and you know you give me twenty minutes and just got it out and be completely exhausted after that i just that's where my real concern is in this match you know i think with all the movement the rapid being seen similar and have been attentive enough to where they're going to be able to make life difficult for brian fernandez end sebastian go in the way they did perogie and carlos vela i think yeah i think 'em diego rubio can be or in terms of rapid creating some on the counter especially where their wing players will have advantage over zeon the timbers fullbacks back you mentioned it a couple of minutes ago markets mostly ban m b homegrown michael far fan and then of course 'em a a whore heavier fine yeah on the left but then it's been a you know rick valentino on the right if i go back to like twenty eighteen a timber sweater mark the jokers they were making it so the rick valentinas coming in how nice the portland timbers up to nail the buyer to voluntarily go down to ten men against an opponent to let them get back into the game so i think the rapid i think it's a it's a bunker encounter situation i think you go in the mid block you hope you've been stifled the front three headed monster did the tempers have going on you get the ball and you get it out to the wing as quickly as simply as possible and you let them run and try and get the ball in chicago tomorrow in the box maybe diego romeo picks up the pieces but i'd i'd really be looking at c you know could whoever wing whichever wing player as maybe it's maybe it's sam nicholson can they gave us thirty minutes good off the bench is a super soft position the end is jack price you know able to at least give something on you know even if it's in a substitute role i think if that happens i think the rapids they're in a position where they have a game plan have success i still think this is gonna be probably their toughest road game of the season so far yeah okay on the mark so we do predictions how do you see this game going down oh i feel bad predictions lately matt i on unlike i'm just telling somebody the other day like i think i've gotten all of them we should we if we really boring go back and listen and see like howard doing physically a man you know everybody could make fun of me that i like think i know so much about the colorado rapids yet i'm like over seventeen on production 'em this deal why a study difficult against the grain against the narrative mls gonna mls kind of win over colorado you know portland has been really strong long they're coming out of the box solid a but 'em you know colorado is gonna gonna have all their feet and its act together they're they're gonna be you know with with the exception of a cost so they're gonna have a lot of a lot of different options and i think maybe jonathan lewis will come back back in and give it a little bit of fire they haven't had though 'em on feeling i'm feeling to one feeling to one to one of the rapids okay i'll i'll flip the script for the sake of being contrarians maybe this'll even out and a one one draw rapids i'll take you want to the timbers in this one i'll say that that based on a little bit of a hunch i have that maybe jack prices gonna be able to give you more than twenty minutes off the bench i definitely would not expecting the start in this game i think jonathan lewis comes back and create something that leads to hide their high tomorrow or diego rubio goal in this one but i felt the temperatures are gonna have most of the ball it's gonna be a lot of oh crap the ball diego blair beat and having a track runners and i think inevitably out of there with a team being exhausted having some limited options kellyn acosta not available or jack price not available or maybe they have to make a late solve and get cold bath and then the game and you know just the moments just a little bit you big you know a teenager call bassett m o.

"A living on a prayer 'em and so at that point when you're choosing to go like like who doesn't love don't stop believing by journey if you're going back to that twice in the same night like you know it's gonna end up being bad i think jake and i at one point spent a whole bunch of time doing a whole bunch of math and figure out how long the delays were in between the three of them if you're including the latest start initial game were talking in excess of three hours and forty minutes so you know the listeners if the if we've got no stoppage time based on a normal schedule of and how the stadium run things and everything we've potentially could have gotten barely late to wrap it in in in the time that we were sitting in waiting for the lightning the top of the rapid one rapid game to occur but now i i hear point mark which basically blow up good thing bad thing big thing for this week just because you can't really gaining anything from it you know i normally normally one of those people where as soon as there's a red card in the game i don't take anything from a tactical standpoint or and approach to play or you know managerial decision after that happening because of out how out of how abnormal playing down a man is hurting sample like how could you tactically dissect the snow classy go against portland when there were four inches of snow on the ground and the rapids play down a man for the better part of it so i don't think we could take a whole lot in that one the one thing that was pretty consistent perm everyone i spoke with the club after the game and everything and they were really making any excuses over the circumstance because new england also has a deal with the market new england flew in that day 'em on the fourth they arrived at i end if you think about it you know the rapid sticking a you know seven pm kickoff for them is normal in terms of their internal clock pearl home day matchday that nine pm only internal clock for the new england revolution by the time we actually started playing it was after after ten you know their body internally to in the morning by the time the game's over and they went out and credit to them you know bruce arena have the squad ready and they were you know gut check time for them and they got a result so i don't think we could take a lot from the style of play he approaches you know i will say that the two goals were conceded were simple mistake there easily fixable by the rapids spoke with lalas 'em after the match and he said the on the set piece called at the rapids needed was a miscommunication and that's something that when they've had issues like that in the past under connor casey they spend a lotta time on that and film session he says it like like that with a simple mistake it shouldn't have happened will talk about it and film session will be easily fixable it will not happen in the match against portland i'd say similar things of the of the first goal from the run a play for steel bunbury you know he had the run up the middle by one of a kind of saito's they cut laughing okay it makes sense the have 'em i think it was telling acosta who traveled who went with them but then tommy smith went completely out of position as well and that left the rapids and ideally you'd be used situation three beat you if you continue with a little bit out wide and a little bit further afield the handle gio bunbury and i believe carlos deal within their is well prager cassiano hit the cross okay you know tommy smith gets pulled out of position inherently sam by test the cover that space so he comes in in a situation where he's not as familiar maybe not isn't as tactically aware of some of the things going on in his surroundings thinks maybe he needs to cheat inside wishing you jiechi on the outside and in that you know even you know one extra step hercule bond barely get ahead in a great touch off the chest of great cross regrets deal and a great finish that 'em tim howard couldn't have done anything about the rapids it could have treated he causes of the chances on both of those gold i'm not sure they could have treated symptoms in terms of the situation they were inner you know the save that our would have had a maker somebody else clearing a ball off the line but just given the circumstances which it's just really really weird and one thing that maybe we haven't highlighted from this one marker even early last couple of weeks we're were both on the rutgers at dc most impactful offensive player of the rapids right now everybody healthy everybody fit archive kamar one on an jonathan lewis to correct yeah i mean i think i've i i've done a fair amount of understanding how important nicklaus mesquite is the team 'em and i also think in my piece for the denver post last sweep of mid midseason awards 'em adoration shaky got a lot of point 'em not only per one he does 'em in just coaching in front of the goal but also adapting as kind of like a new fangled left winger even though it's not natural position so i might i might argue just a shaky maybe a ticket had a horror louis but i think in terms of raw potential based on the fact that she knew she played a full season for the rapid lewis is newish i think you're right that louis the most exciting player a mad right now yeah ann lewis hasn't been with the team obviously he'll be back in available for selection you know now the gold cup over her him as well so that's a good thing for them but that's something that they haven't really had and we've talked about how you mentioned sheiky being a little bit out of position daigle rubio's grown in that role mostly on the right side a little bit more central at times in in as well but those are still two players who i think prefer to be up the middle strikers one of them is a false nine one is in underneath to a true number nine and they're being played out a position where i think maybe fully healthy with everybody in their best position jonathan lewis is on the left and you know sam sam nicholson what they fully healthy an operational back and hamstring are functional twelve same nicholson itself into this game and had a really good opportunity but you know the rapids were doing a lot given these circumstances and you know like the big thing that i had written down on my sheet of paper if we're ever gonna get big thing actually was you know i even mad about islam you know all the ways that the iran could have ended it could have been in the game against portland it could have been a blowout loss to lsd it could have been one where they came out flat aware the team hurt at you all of their bad habit against anthony huston you know this is a crazy game from whether perspective it was eight wildcard unknown in bruce arena being relatively new with the new england revolution is a wildcard in the sense that the rapid don't have as much familiarity wit's end it with a game in which were the rapid made mistakes were simple mistake that i think fans have a right to be upset about but simple thing they've done well under connor casey so you got the influence of mother nature of the quality and you know circumstance fant lefty opponent and then a couple of mistakes that are wild outliers corrupted was indeed seven oh and you run in emma let's play like if that's how the if that's how the unbeaten streak is gonna end i ain't even mad about that it's not like they won't over by a team vastly better them it's not like they completely beat themselves it wasn't a dumb red card in a home game okay there is the right card account acosta but it wasn't you know in the first half and immediately cost or lucky opponent back into the game you know it wasn't tim howard having a bunch of 0 cursor is there anything they're bunch of other way they would have been catastrophic that rapid shorter would've gone ham where it would have been way more likely in my mind happened there would have been more indicative of all this new coach bump it could have happened but no it was this crazy you know lightning struck twice literal situation the rapids ended up letting if the rapids end up getting a one one draw against portland this is a blip not a trend right i think the big thing is that picture out you got on the concord i i want a couple of years ago i got a beautiful snowy owl snowy al might have been a bar now the m that was just roosting right over the east side concord 'em you know i think in addition to exciting weather phenomenon that happen colorado 'em you know exciting a floor an honest citing in the dick sporting goods are environs is really important 'em you know there was a there's a great twitter feed called the north terrorist fox is i think and i literally just the guy tweeting his nephew the fox that lives on the north tara 'em i don't think he's been around on twitter late 'cause nobody's fight fight at a fox up there in a while 'cause really the only people who were there at trends america executives who show up you know seventeen times a year but 'em you know it it it's funded be out on my personal favorite i'm sure you've seen the when you drive out the commerce city you get their training midday hey you're likely to see about a fifty to a hundred different little prairie dog yelling the cell 'em or you know standing on top of the hill looking at you like yeah it's up buddy you're gonna mess with me and it's always enjoyable you know honestly if we can enjoy the soccer at least we could enjoy the wildlife absolutely absolutely move on to bigger and hopefully better thing park let's hope all right listeners this coming saturday add these newly renovated providence park at eight pm mountain standard time colorado rapids will be taking on the portland timbers we are currently mark 'em in nineteen thirty four thirty four through the twenty nineteen colorado rapids mls season the rapids or again in twelfth in the western conference with nineteen points off of their nineteen games played they have a wrecker of five ten end or any negative nine goal differential there are one five and you at home but we taking on the portland timbers who we saw in the home opener of the season 'em any aforementioned no classical portland timbers are in ninth in the western conference they have twenty three points off of seventeen games played eight seven eight you recor you want an oh at home that one also against fc any new in the i guess the the home opener of the season newly renovated opening of providence park and then he five seven and two wrecker on the road as well bit of a rough start for the timber come after that draw against the rapid any opening game of the season mark but then they found that 'em in their road games they stabilize thinker back they brought in brian fernandez firmly arjun time a first division who's been an absolute breath of fresh air year bondi exact wavelength sebastian bronco and the eagle blair on daego larry's a fantastic number ten for the team albeit in you know a little bit slower role now that he's getting older sebastian cash and broncos normally on the wing brian fernandez had been playing mostly up top for the timbers 'em if we look back on what they're doing defensively they've had a little bit of eight backline rotate a little bit of a goalkeeper not a controversy but it's been a clark in their arm and then in the past it's also ban 'em jets and now and so they're kind of going back and forth so we might see somebody different there darren sproles enda jeremy boba see normally four words have been that other when you're and they attack they of course have daego go to mark who i think probably makes are all jimmy dean mid best selectmen on you know on amulet the whole larry mopey outlaw in a closet dl not humane centrebacks ram defense is definitely the weakness for the portland timbers 'em what do you've seen the timbers what have we seen in them since their three three draw up man rapid than what do you see them doing in the game on sunday saturday i think you know you said it really well they went on the ethic long way across the league where they have someone like thirteen road games in a row because they were waiting for their stadium to get 'em finished a or the after renovating in adding ethnic old mother jack 'em so being at home is is a big deal being at home for many games is a big deal 'em being a having a team that's basically i don't think any of their players went to any three international tournament 'em ask con a copa america america or the gold cup so they basically have a well rested a very focused team this is not the team but we drew three three the looks really bad at the beginning of season i think he said it while the grime fernando's out as a different sprint element i haven't gotten the seat portland play with him much just in the highlight so i'm excited to see how he hooks up with the larry like i like you said 'em diego tra is just the most fun defensive midfielder to watch the one day milwaukee which arise he plays a little bit recklessly potentially he's always fat guy who's gonna be naps persistent infringement on tackle early in the game senate may change change the way he plays but dude just has no quit i mean he just runs all over the field and covers a tremendous amount of ground oh man that's gonna create some problem a i think the the same as you pointed out it exactly you know i i hate when we were or experiencing the whole on mind meld matt because i don't have all that much unique or brilliant at this whole podcast me just being you're you're a supporter here you're you're you're you're probably a when you are truly whatever a you know the delete delete dog in the quiet quiet right but but yeah that those back to a multi l a n d l a or a really questionable they've been really shaky at the beginning beginning 'em and then out on the wing a fullback they've all been questionable at time i think it's all the foul 'em coming off the the laugh i can't remember off the top of my head that's the that's the way you go out which is colorado in getting behind they may be a little bit stronger at center back so a you just hopefully you can you could exploit.

"Game's not normally starting right at east gradual kickoff time and you know all these other pregame festivities they easily could have been modified to make things were given the weather circumstances on thursday so take off just after eight pm hour delay twentyeight minutes in 'em we get another delayed hours after eight goal in eight minute by seal bunbury off of some nice play up the middle but drew a one tommy smith out to the far wing and then aforementioned a former rapids player edgar castio whip say crop in she'll bunbury floats in the space between she and you're sheiky end sam vines where tommy smith potentially could have ben on the backside with vines end lawless abubakar worrying about another new england player in the middle bunbury takes the touch office just embiid tim howard on the far post then we get the blame the twenty eight minutes then we resume what they kicked off in these at ten at ten ten pm that was just over a ninety minute delay we get another delay at thirty fifth minute that is in excess of forty five minutes and then we come back going to resume play an eight minute halftime in which new england state entirely on the pitch the rapid despite 'em defending legal duty south side of the stadium decided to go back into the stadium and then come back out fifty sacramento a set piece opportunity for one friend okay cedo 'em off of a great cross by carlos your kind of floating between a guy come artisan attack wallace doesn't attack the ball at all and so tight saito's able to put it in seventy first minute diego rubio scores on a set piece illnesses from nicole smith pizza who's really the one game changer this one for me mark in terms of late substitution zor anything the rapid were changing he came in and change the game as we've seen from him in the past you had eight bunch of yellow cards in this game lots of frustration from both sides regarding the ficials we could talk about some of the order questions you're calling jake shapiro had with officials and then ultimately lead to age ninety minute plus one of stoppage time in which kellyn acosta was given eight second yellow car for descent was set off you will miss the game against portland 'em rapid rapid loss in their first loss 'em after that long unbeaten streak which they were five owen owen to mark where do you wanna start with good things from this past thursday boss you know we have a lot to say other than i'm asking you a lot of questions about you know what was it like to be at a game where there were so many people 'em they were such a long wait for the game i mean how many how many fans did you see kinda go to the concourse and come back packing and then he came back after the delay there were fewer fans there were fewer fans like by the end of the game how many people were still there at what time was it when you when you finally drove home a okay so 'em i did not mention whole time time occurred officially at twelve eighteen eight am so five hours in eight minutes after the normal rescheduled kickoff normally listeners that happened just before nine pm so far seven pm game normally i'm in be media area talking connor casey by nine or a little bit after depending on stoppagetime and how the game when everything normally i'm accepting the stadium by ten pm i published by recap i put out a lot of ipo's media stuff that i normally post on on twitter nfl had a little bit of time i wanna start setting up an editorial or the next there the middle of the week i'll do that normally but ten ten thirty i'm out of the stadium certainly by eleven if something crazy absolutely happen mark m i don't think were officially done with all the media availability in everything until just after one am and everything and i was waiting around the talk with jay 'cause we want it to patter about i'm confused you pool reporter stuff while i was with casey and a couple of other players as well so i think i was home from the game at one thirty in the morning so roughly an hour twelve minutes after game ended i would be i did not see any other cars in the parking lot with the exception of other people who i presume were immediate people are still finishing up stadium off people mark her tearing down the game will normally say they're up to three hours after the game as well so presumably i dunno because you know it was a long weekend and everything maybe they said next week but normally if the game's over at nine pm or so you know the guys guys who i interviewed for be a pot the special but we did talking about the grass and maintaining the pitch and the grass managers the grounds crew 'em over this past off season normally they're leaving the stadium by just out just before midnight for seven pm game so in terms of the fan situation i'm honestly really disappointed for them mark because a be announced tickets distributed with just under sixteen thousand that would have been one of the better crowds of the season for the rapid the normally that fourth fourth of july with the fireworks and everything is one of the best attended game of the season and i'm not sure that we ever really got to see that with our delayed before the game you know in a fourth of july was on a thursday with already at seven pm kickoff normally win that game in middle of the week mark that's normally in earlier kickoff i think there's been a two pm at three pm five pm i don't know that it's ever been a night game on a week day they still had another week data go so i just wonder where people thinking okay you know the game's not gonna start till eight the game's not gonna be over till ten i'm not in bed till eleven i have to go to work the next morning 'cause the friday july fifth i'm not sure the we ever saw all almost sixteen thousand people in the stands and that game dwindled down significantly if there were a thousand people boston beat at a fulltime whistle twelve eighteen am i would have been impressed you know at that point mark we could have scrunched it down into just be a west side of the medium and it still would have looked like a pretty sparse crowd you know for that when they evening open cup game against the switch backs against new mexico united but i don't blame the fans at all with those circumstances there were a bunch of other lightning delays and everything there were a bunch of rain on and off throughout the night is well i'm sure you saw john bad react come a photo of the halos well like it was a others at a snow classical from mother nature to order or the fans who were in their seats at twelve eighteen am fulltime they went through about his worst is i think you're gonna get in mls season that's a that's amazing i'm i'm a process any fancy state the important thing to remember about a game like this and the question of whether we should take anything from it at all like i don't think tactically or you know skill or professionalize you could really say anything about this game in the sense that is so stop start you know players went out they warmed up they've played it got pulled off they arrested they warmed up they play they got pulled off they arrested you know there's so much warm up cool down a there's so much stop start that you can't really develop a rhythm for the game another question that goes with this game is whether it should have been played at all you know the day after the game well there was a big moment where a i think it was either louis not not louisville 'em who is either a cincinnati or orlando at a game the next day where it was threatened by random lightning and they just canceled it in advance they knew the game was gonna get pounded and they just made it up you know twenty four hours later 'em there's a good question as to whether this game should have been played a at all i think you know hindsight's twenty twenty a i understand why teams wanna get it in it's a lot of money to fly teams back and forth a you give players up and down the rapids already had a rain out this year 'em but this game wasn't really a game i mean it doesn't really the the result is kind of fluky doesn't really tell us anything about the team 'em it's just kind of disappointing i i was wondering you know what you did any massive amounts of of breaks kill the time where their games at tic tac toe did you in a shot delicious arm wrestle what is it a you know a five v two between the front office staff and the writers like what what did you kill the time that a lot of sitting in waiting it was a lot of banter 'em at some point we kind of went around and talk about just the craziest weather's wage and you've ever had in a media contacts there's a fan her example so my mom's originally from be northern part of the lower peninsula of michigan are so if you open up you're hand as the lower peninsula as she's in the middle part of you're middle ring finger area and so we went to a non on league crudely were willing to double play baseball team called the traverse city beach bombs and we went to they played sixteen innings and it was like a four pm sunday game and we ended up going there when we were on vacation when i was a kid so we talked about that and so we kinda just went around like what's the craziest like latest the late game that you've ever been a part of an immediate contacts there's a fan or something obviously 'em richard fleming are calling out a bunch of stories you know of you know low mattress of lower league english teams her example games were flat out abandoned because of a water log pitch because it's england and maybe you know the you know the third and the fourth division dean didn't have the proper infrastructure so there is a point where you noticed the stadiums flooded like it's not gonna be not flooded for at least another twenty four hours hours everybody go home so we had a lot of votes conversation with a lot of hearing about and then i always leads you saw on twitter with having a little bit of fun with thumb what worthy a the musical selections from a d in stadium it's out there playing a purple rain by a the seat the artist formerly known print a lot of lightning and thunder by imagine dragons 'em and another just rain being soft but i knew it was really really bad when i heard for the second time offer a the twi the second time each 'em journey don't stop believing followed by a living on a prayer 'em and so at that point when you're choosing to go like like who doesn't love don't stop believing by journey if you're going back to.

"I agree with you, Mark. You know as much as I love what I saw this team in the opening twenty thirty minutes or so. I hated pretty much everything from. Let's say thirty fifth forty th minute. At the absolute latest on through the end of the game. I could understand Casey saying, okay, it's late in the first half were up to nail. Let's drop back in our usual, you know, mid block. You know, one four four four four one four two two one one wide whatever you wanna call it, the, you know, the, the double hip, in the middle, the two relatively wide pushed up wingers, and then somebody floating or immediately underneath high Kamara. I'm okay with doing that for the final ten minutes of that, first half because you say you're up to nail. Let's try to get into the locker room to nail and protect that. But that's kinda predicated on you not making any critical mistakes that allow Vancouver to get back into the game. Jay go Rubio gives up PK Fredy Montero converts it. That's. Exactly the thing that you really didn't need. You could argue affectively a buzzer beater in terms of the end of the first half coming finally in stoppage time. And then there really weren't any adjustments in the second half rapid still kind of continue to play defensive as you mentioned. They creating a whole lot of opportunities. But anything that was going on from the success of the counter attack was lead there from wide standpoint. And I'm just not really sure what Conor Casey was sinking on that. You know, I saw I also thought the DA go Rubio defending that deep was really weird, like, when's the last time you saw like a striker winger attacking mid inside the box in their own third yanking guy down with his shoulder like that was weird to me. I get the idea like you know as a coach you say a lot of your players in certain situations. You know, you got gotta cover for a man if these loss. You've gotta come all the way back, but like he had no business being there. And somebody else was supposed to be doing that job or someone should have been stepping him face up instead of, you know, having Diego Rubio yank him backwards. Yeah. No, I agree with you, Mark. That was really be pummeling in the end. I mean to your point about Vancouver's saying, all right? Colorado's not going forward. We're gonna push guys up, you know, all the non who's normally left back for Vancouver was affectively a left winger the entire second half. And I just I didn't understand how Connor Casey didn't try to account for that or they didn't try to exploited that in the attack. You know, I personally not that I'm in any way position to coach in Major League Soccer at all, or at any level, professional soccer. I would've moved Yengo Rubio back in the middle of the park underneath Amara his natural position. I would move mosquito out wide who's very used to doing winger like things. In that play. And then I would afford app, some sort of speed option to check against Leon. And we didn't really see that from Diego Rubio, I've said it for a couple of weeks now, I think, Rubio's the most out of place of those four to five players who are gonna play on the wing. You know, I think one thing we do have to say for Colorado is I would argue their best to options at those positions left in the white right wide, midfielder are probably Jonathan Lewis on the left, who was with the US national team still in Sam Nicholson who is out with a hamstring injury. He sustained earlier in the week. So I you know, I understand that, but do more with what you have. And I thought some other adjustment they could have done could have made an impact, and they didn't really have a whole lot of pinch options. You know the one sub they made with Sebastian Anderson in the seventy seven th minute for Andre. She sheiky at that point, the game is still to one, maybe throw in Dylan Sern there. And having tried to do something for counterattacks standpoint, you know, maybe you move Palinha costs in new different role in bringing Johan Blomberg who's been not terrible in the games seen him. There wasn't any adjustment in terms of shape, or style of play or approach or anything Conor, Casey, basically, help, Pat, for the final at least fifty minutes in that game. And you saw in the final five minutes of the first half that was arrested for disaster, ultimately was disaster in the form of getting a to draw. Let's move onto big thing. Mark any other closing thoughts. We want to have on this, Matt. It was sad to seize act like math not have a great game. I it's, it's weird and the other thing that's related concept is in the battle of, let's get revenge on our former team the Rapids one even though they only drew two because Kamar to goal nNcholas. Mosquito had either one or he had an MLS assists in a regular assist. I think on the day and they both were just Kamara. An mosquito almost had another one early in the first half. They both had great games, or at least the first half Zach mcmath have that one play early in the first half where it was kind of a normal shot. And he he deflected with hands. It pops up over his head. He had to reach back in sleep it off the why the last second and it turned into like, you know, yacky sacks like disaster moment for him. I was co I mean I should not be rooting against the Rapids, but I was honestly glad that, that goal didn't go in, because it would have been so embarrassing for him. I'm a stand for. For exact mcmath, but, but, you know, the, the long narrative here is KYW, Kamara and Mesquita made their former team GIO bad about losing them. And Zach math did not accomplish the same thing. He might make things just relates on something that I've been talking about really for the last couple of shows now, Mark that I still, I still there are huge era bars right now for me in terms of understanding between where the Rapids were at the end of the losing streak in now in terms of how good they actually are, and I still have doubts based on the quality of composition, how much just the new coach bump wasn't affected. I think we're past the point you know, at this point now where it's just hearing a different voice that's Conor, Casey, rather than Anthony Hudson, regardless of how good that second voice is, I think we're past the point where that's no longer new affect. I think that's worn off, and now whatever's going now going on whatever's propagating going forward, will be the actual result of how good the. Players are, and what Conor Casey's doing with the assets he has. But I still just between that the injuries and all the other things. I'm still not sure whether or not will we from the Rapids, how different that is from where they were before, then I sense that there's somewhere in between, you know, the two points from thirteen games last in the Western Conference to where they've been, you know, say going into the lawsuit Mexico in the open Cup. And this was another data point. This is a critical game for the purposes of jumping teams to try and get any Western Conference playoff race. You know. Yes. The Rapids are only four points below the reds mind, but there's five teams that they have to jump in the process of that one of those teams being Vancouver, Whitecaps in that Saturday's ings a three pointer. The Rapids were up to nothing after twenty minutes that is a game that a playoff team sees out and gets a win in the Rapids to not do that, and it was against a relatively weak Vancouver, Whitecaps side who are missing players to injury international cops, and they're obviously. Be missing is for a bit longer as most of those call ups are Canadian nationals who are through the knockout rounds of the Gold Cup. So good for Canada, bad for the Whitecaps in that it was good for the Rapids, and the Rapids could not take advantage of that in the Rapids are about to hit murders row in terms of their schedule. And we're gonna get a much better idea of how good they are playing quality teas on a good run of form. And I'm still just I'm nervous that. If you know they don't get something against Friday's opponent. And let's see what happens against New England Revolution. So that maybe we're going to start to realize that the Rapids were not as good as their five game unbeaten streak in. Maybe it turns out, they're still going to be a middling team in the Western Conference. Maybe not support maybe not win spoon contender. But comfortably outside the playoff race with that, Mark. Let's look to this. Friday's game is coming Friday listeners at eight o'clock. It'll be a late start on Friday night at Dick's sporting park, Colorado Rapids will be hosting the current supporters shield leaders in Los Angeles FC the Rapids of curry. Played seventeen games out of thirty four game season. That gets us to the halfway Mark in twenty nineteen Rapids MLS season, Mark after the results of this past week on they are sitting back in twelve in the Western Conference on one point behind Vancouver Whitecaps. They are still ahead of FC Cincinnati in the support she'll race. But they have six points from seventeen games played for wins nine losses and four draws a negative or goal differential, will be taking on L AFC as I mentioned, who are comfortably top of the West End. The supporters shield standings with a six any five point lead in all those. They have thirty seven points from sixteen games played eleven wins one loss and four draws N A, plus six goal differential that one loss came in a mid week rogue game against the Vancouver, Whitecaps that's not a plus six goal differential. That's a plus twenty six twenty six go there. And they have a and they also have a way record of four one in three. This will have their third game all time playing at altitude. This is the juggernaut nationalist from Mark if I had to guess, right now, I would say that they're on pace city by number regular season metrics. Let's just go with total points in the in the post shootout era of MLS thirty four game season. They've got a chance to be with New York rebels last year and what Toronto seeded a couple of years ago. Bob Bradley's their head coach what he's gotten out of that midfield. Three with Mark, Anthony ks lati- blessings of the world is straight up nasty and terrifying. They haven't missed the beat in the rents seem on departing the club as goalkeeper. Eddie cigarette has stepped in invent fantastic. I think Walker Zimmerman is well on his way to being the favourite for the defender of the year, they've got to excellent fullbacks in, in why am I totally missing the up right now in Jordan Harvey's, mostly are left..

"They won the twenty ten m Alaska, they've never won the US open Cup. So if you wanna fill out your trophy, case and be able to be one of those franchises, who can say, we have won all of the hardware available to male American soccer team. The US open Cup is the next logical step, and they didn't do it and. That's pretty frustrating. Yeah. No all agree with us. Frustrating marketing know if looking at this game you know month review Asli fans already to say, you know, the seasons completely over into wash play bench players news focus on winning the open Cup. Because we talked about last week, you know, it's only, it's really only five six games, pending on the draw on the year from, you know, you heading major profiles. Ultimately, you know, you would think that, you know, an amyloid still should be able to beat a US-South on, you know, I have argued that, you know, take away the keys in the whole say the productive Cam players. There's a lot of very unproductive Tam players who been in rapid kit in the last two years. And so you take away that prefers counting eleven has EP's in the internationals. And most of the really good Tam players. And I would say a really good US should be able to beat or at least give my above at a below average MLS team run for their money in. That's what we saw Mike complain. In this game or where look at this is just the absolute lack of preparation. You know, the, the team appeared prepared, but they did not adjust once they realized that they weren't prepared. I guess maybe the one good thing that I have out of this game is Jada Rubio getting the Sar Nabi asleep goal on a really, really good set-piece. Graded a couple of chances in Olson than we had the primary assist on the only assist rather on the Nichols, the ical. So we saw him involve in both plays was dynamic offensively albeit against US L team who their biggest weakness was the defensive side of the ball. So that's something where I would have expected him to dominate in. I wouldn't say that he had a full ninety minutes of, you know, are one hundred twenty minutes of dominance. I wouldn't have expected him to playing a hundred twenty minutes than you know, roughly, what that would have been not quite fifteen minutes fifty minutes plus stoppage-time of being down a man but I mean he was good. But I guess we'll this grow this into bad things. All re tweet your points on axel. I think we're at the point. Mark where I think axles definitely played his way out of being consideration for the starting eleven on this team. And I think there's a really distinct possibility that he's just he's not in the long-term future plans for the rapid right now for anything more than the occasional back of centreback will get, you know, I I I'm not sure with the way that what Kenny Wilson has done for this team in terms of being able to fill in not garbage in the demon role. And then still having some report, as far as being a centre back that I have to think, you know, if I'm trying to project on the Connor case, he probably sees in Wilson is more viable bench ops in than Shubert Danny Wilson fill into any one of those four spots, either in the two holding midfield spots, or the do centreback spots in. So, you know, I in that I don't think axel is any more than a reserve player on this team anymore. And we're talking about a guy who two three years ago was a candidate. Her defender. For the year on one of the best defences in ammos, history. Just before last year. I would have set a lot of that might have been Hudson in terms of Hudson, coming in basically saying, why no defenses are big strong suit, we're gonna spend money on to international defenders, absolutely. You're not a starter anymore. Wondering what that means for him from a psychological standpoint, obviously style of play. But you know you look at the possession numbers. You look at the stats numbers in terms of how Connor Casey's approach this team. They pretty regularly had between thirty five and forty five percent possession of the ball. Like, they're, they're more keep fighting. And they're more Pablo tactics right now than they are Hudson. Trying to be a possession attacking team, so to speak. And so that's playing into where Shubert had success. Any hasn't had success under Casey in that style of way at this point. So I guess, you know, I know earlier in the season we were talking about how, heartbroken we were Cerna flubbed in other opportunity. Getting a couple of good starts. That left back in playing himself out of position. But I just I don't know where Shubert goes from here. You know if he's going to be a competent player getting more than five hundred minutes in the season, when I think if he wants more than that, I think it's going to have to not be in Burke. Blue getting back to my main point is the absolute lack of adjustments. I didn't really care for any of the substitution I think I think subbing on kellyn Acosta was the right idea, and I understand down a man, you didn't really have any other attacking options off the bench, so you send in Sam Nicholson. And then, you know, have him play sort the lone striker in the hor- for one. But this team did not wasn't did not appear prepared nor. They adjust to the overlapping of whole Bax from New Mexico United, nor did they adjust to be rotations that they had in the middle with all the attack pieces. My biggest concern going into this game was what were they doing at centerback in the holding midfield roles and were those bench players going to be able to work hard? Against a potential first choice starting eleven four New Mexico. United in the answer that question was no, it wasn't able to work. Actual struggled and was sent off. You know, Janny Wilson was extremely underwhelming. I would say, you know, ho- Bassett was okay. Yes. He's still a teenager, but, you know, Helena costs and Jack rice, Tommy Smith. You know, would have absolutely locked down that and they would have figured out, I think in the within thirty minutes, certainly after a talk by halftime in. You could argue Mark Rapids never really figured it out at one hundred twenty minutes to figure it out. Yeah, they look worse in the second half and were looked in the in the first with the exception of that, you know, immediate goal is scored right after kickoff in the second half. But yeah I mean back to the point on actual show. I think you nailed it. Which is he, he played himself out of this team last year. And with the change in coaches he got himself one more shot, any played himself out all over again. I spent a little bit of time in backpass in the Denver post this week. Kind of breaking it down. Nobody's sad or about his fall off than I am just because I think, you know if you've been around the team for a while know we always love players who were drafted an were drafted, you know, a little bit low or just a super draft in general's kind of a crap shoot. And he he was a surprise. He was surprisingly good player. And then suddenly, he just fell off completely some people chock it up to injury. But I don't know. I mean didn't seem like. It didn't it doesn't seem like a hamstring. Injury should be the kind of thing that you never properly recovered from him in a lot of guys never properly recovered from a knee injury. But a hamstring injury is a a strange one. And also just doesn't seem like it's, it's about physical ability. It seems a Bill tactical in seems a little bit mental or it seems just that he's, he's dealt with Colorado Rapids team this changed adjusted a lot. So I would like to see actual turn it around. But I think. Squarely moved into the time where that turnaround is going to have to happen with another team. He is signed. Although I I've found out this was last week, I published an article like three weeks ago in which I had in my database, the fact that a player was signed through twenty twenty and I actually got a call from the Rapids who told me that I was wrong that that was that a player was actually signed through twenty nineteen. So, you know, might spreadsheet might not be perfect, Matt. But my I did look this up twice and actual show Burke, signed a three year contract extension at the end of twenty seventeen. Meaning he is he was on for eighteen nineteen twenty he is signed through twenty twenty but I'm starting to get the sense based on conversations. I've had from within the Rapids organization that, that third year contract or the contract, that's beyond the next year may have some sort of. Release clause or cancellation clause in it that allows the Rapids to get out from underneath a longer contract. So I think it's possible that actual Schober is contract. Isn't that big begin with maybe moved on to the end of this season? And even if he's not actually transferred or traded, he, we may not see him back with Colorado next year anyways, although as you probably heard out before if you need him for Deb a new just wanna keep him around. You probably could do that. Yeah. No, I agree with you, Mark. I, I definitely put him in the Dylan Cerna campus while Dylan Cerna via away started in this game and played a grand total of seventy five minutes in honestly, wasn't that impressive for me that was just, you know him being you know, he was playing at left midfield than I don't remember the last time he played that off the top of my head. And you said, you know, again, everybody was, it was a jumbled up. Lineup. So how much can you really gain a guy playing in a role? He hasn't been in a while around a bunch of other players who pretentiously and other roles yet, Keegan Rosie, Mary, for example, the leftback physician thought he was okay like he was fine. Nothing spectacular. But you would have expected, I would have expected if he was playing on the right side of the field against US L opponent, that you would have absolutely dominated. And he didn't do that. Never couple of times that, you know, a little bit suspect. I thought, Chris, we Han, the midfielder for New Mexico. United for me was the man of the match both in terms of the whole run of play in the hundred twenty and then obviously, he ultimately scored EP Kate wanted or US sell side. So I don't I certainly was okay. He wasn't great mom. I don't think he played himself out of another opportunity to start for this team. But I also don't think like he he had opportunity to do something and make a statement. And I thought if anybody did that as I mentioned a couple of minutes ago that was probably Diego. Rubio, you know, who was kind of a, you know, Conor Casey's than liking having more of a number ten style player in terms of that one position under Kamara. And there's other players who other good things have been playing better than Rubio from a winger perspective and Rubio goes out there, and he gets goal on set pieces, set pieces. Continue to be a big factor or the Rapids..

"Well, I've said that with the US national team. I mean Clinton what's look at himself and say, I'm in the conversation. You see him volume home, golden trainings, so David Hopkins Sweden, and he said Connor Casey potentially and Kenny Cooper who just signed with Montreal. He says he always stays healthy hair. We scores goals. Maybe a guy you could see that keeps on planes about holding on to be honest. It's going to be a goalkeeper who sticking around. It's going to be like a goal our goal coming back Melissa any and then scoring goal like last minute. Maybe shin. Kick are also said all he wants for Christmas is Simon Borgen that Borchert in the room together. What happened, you know? I didn't he says the major beef with you. There's a call that you made instant replay back like last September that he says is BS you said he is a penalty. He says. No, no. So he wants to get in a room holding a grudge. Is better than yours. And the top is better to he's got to be all around his hair game as it is. But I don't invest money might be. This is not real. L? All right. So let's call it off with the grey streaks are from Gironde pairing. He asked is this the year of Canada Vancouver? Potential supporters shield winner leading early on Montreal seal. Final Toronto could be in line for their first playoff. Do. You think this is the year of the women's World Cup women's World Cup? It could be it could be, but it could just as easily be the year that candidate stomped on because the impact could go down there and get whooped Toronto could not make the playoffs again. And it just be the biggest punch ever after you get all these new players have a new stadium and Vancouver could easily fall off a cliff. So there I am there's if you wanted the opposite to bitter your forget that was it the pooh-poohing. Manjit hard. No. I definitely think could be Canada's ear. Yeah. Your fate is sealed. Canada. You hear that your face sealed? Montreal is going to put up a good show against club America.
