Ucla could be good but choosing back usc there so nba to nba teams to to college teams. And a whole lot else air. So i'm excited for you know. Hopefully we'll be my best. Nba season and are at best nba season together. Chris pump for it. Well exactly one week from yesterday. Teams are going to have their media days and they're going to have training camps hard to believe where they're already seriously. I was just texting with a team earlier today. I'm trying to write a story on on a team. Which all. maybe. We'll see in october on the ringer dot com. And he's like. It's like in one week one week. We're leaving next monday for a place going. It's nuts man. So i i look forward again working on stuff because i was having a beating this morning and someone mentioned to me. They're like oh well w game that night and this was in two weeks and i was like what are you talking about. And they're like yeah. There's a game. October fifth and i was like a what game they said. There's a preseason game it's grizzlies bucks. It's going to be that night. It's a home game and i was like. Oh my gosh it is too. It really is two weeks two weeks away from us watching. Nba preseason games. That are going to be taking place. Third is the first one. I believe the lakers in la sunday. October third is the first preseason game and the funny part is is. I mean that could be a finals preview. Be nets lakers. I perceive game. We'll see how things shake out the season but Ross lebron eighty versus katie kyri harden and all the other guys on those teams. I'm looking forward to it. I'm pumped for preseason basketball. I tell you this what's going to be very fascinating over. The course of the next really week is how much movement there is. There's a couple of things that you think are probably a good chance they get done. Which are free agents. That are still hanging out. There get added to be brought into at least two training camps. 'cause you'd like to add them into the fold prior to that if there is a trade out there ben. Simmons did not get traded last week while we were off shoutout to him. No need for the emergency podcasts. Despite the frank keenan news going alice. I tweeted actually trying to get us. Auto fog duterte -mergency show because a milky now. I gotta be honest today instead. We'll talk about ballet. I really did not feel like it. Warranted emergency pod of the totally frank with you frank ntilikina. Yeah intended But you're gonna have free agents being added and then you get a have these guys that are up for extensions some of these. I think we'll probably. I don't know if there'll be a flood of news but you're going to see news come out about at least some of them because we've only had a few. You only had. I believe luca trae julius alexander. I mean that might be it right. Because eight and hasn't gotten his extension yet. Jaren jackson has gotten his extension yet. But i think some of those those are going to get done. I think before training game starts usually want to knock that out so that's got to happen within a week or if the deadline is october eighteenth so still lot of time as rookie eligible players like you said eight and You know. Bridges with phoenix bridges with charlotte. And there's a lot of guys that are still eligible for that yet but guys wanna get that kind of stuff. The teams a lot of times want to get that stuff done us a did get it out of the way. It's not a distraction. You're not thinking about that. You're not worried about if you twist your ankle in the preseason god forbid you know they usually like to have that stuff sealed up and so colin sexton's another name that were interesting one because like depending on what might happen with. Ben simmons stuff. He's been involved in trade rumors since pre drafts to monitor to. Yeah and and you wonder if some of those guys are going to try to sign extensions that are even a little bit less than what you would normally think. Because that's what they're being offered. But it's a guaranteed four or five years in some of those cases You know like the jonathan. Isaac thing that we had member where it was like okay. There's an insurance policy on the back of it. And he got ninety eight and get max money. He didn't get even close but he guaranteed himself. You know eighty ninety million bucks And so you wonder if some of those guys are going to sign deals like that and those are actually the ones that could become tremendous values for teams if those players do reach their potential and then just wildly outperform the deal that they were capable of signing once upon a time an organization was able to build an entire you know dynasty in golden state in large part because all the ankle injuries. The first couple of years steph curry and he didn't have a big contract. You know zach data. Michael junior gibby. That's really the one name that comes to mind of the remaining players. I mean you can also throw out moba. Mar marvin bagley third. Throw them out there as well in the same company. No idea if they're going to get deals or not. It doesn't seem seems willing to commit totally sarcastic about in the same classes. As long as you're not in that class but it is fascinating bigger deals. Yeah do yet. Do they could write. When o'connor junior both guys with orlando yep anyways in honor of freight nail akina which was the massive free agent. Move that took place since we last spoke for nuclear went to the dallas mavericks and is there now and frank cuba as you have chronicled. Many times you are firmly still on milky island. I am baby. Yep and he is twenty three years old years young years and he is now Joining a guard crew in dallas that they have acquired This off season you know. They got sterling brown. Got reggie bullock They also resigned. Tim hardaway junior and so he is going to join in on the mix of course last year. Your guy that you loved in the draft terry right. They drafted him last year from stanford and so they got a bunch of guards there now in dallas to surround around Luca danni but it was around this time just a few years ago see last year. I'm doing well. Free agency has continued. And we're gonna get to all the moves that have happened since we last spoke but i we actually have a massive basketball game tonight and i was very pleased that is going to include a lot of nba players and very pleased at the timing of the game. A little worse for you in the eastern time zone than it is for me in the central time zone but at nine thirty central ten thirty eastern tonight is going to be the gold medal game between the united states and france. And the reason that i was excited is because it's not at like six. Am it's not like midnight. We've actually got a good prime time setting for what is a very good gold medal game now. The united states is over a double digit favorite. Which was a little surprising to me. But since they lost to france and evan foreign was probably the best player on the floor. I believe the last four games a beating their opponents by an average of thirty point five points per game so for those people that wanted team. Usa to run out on people they have But i'm actually legitimately very excited for this basketball game tonight. It could be a really good game right. yeah. I think the french team that last possession with a tomb recovering and blah layup at the rim. It was really a sensational play and this french team has a lot of nba players. And also a legitimately good international players Some of whom could could thrive in the nba and some capacity. So i mean this is gonna be competitive game. I'm looking forward to it. But ultimately chris like i've said from the beginning you can't pick against team. Usa there's just an overwhelming amount of talent and they've figured some things out in terms of how they're running their offense to actually generate open baskets as team should when they have everybody on it and plus they have kevin durant who can just go off at any time well and the reason that that one is worth noting is because one of the early criticisms criticisms that i made was what is the pecking order here right like you come down to the end of the game. And it's like they owed jason tatum. It's going to take a shot damian. Lillard is going to take a shot is. It's gonna take a shot like what somebody has to emerge as the guy and there is no question that throughout this olympics. And we're going to see if this many times throughout history. This has marked times whether or not it was michael jordan or it was kobe bryant..

Chris that'd be that'd be great there you go all right. It's on its way. Kevin the nba draft is almost upon us by the time. People listen to this. Podcast will be one day away from the nba draft. And we've had a little bit of action. We had the memphis grizzlies trade to get into the top ten yesterday. It was one of the oddest experiences. I've ever had because i was. I was in a trader joe's yesterday afternoon. And i ran into a guy as those at the checkout guy. Came up to me Very kind guy who listens to the pods. And he says he's a grisly season ticket holder. He's a retired music teacher. He goes to the games of this wife. That's what they do so we just wanted to talk about the team in the draft coming up whatever so i've talked to him and i was like you know. I think they actually might do. There's a possibility they're going to be very active in all of this and i walked outside. I loaded in my groceries. I i pulled my pocket out my or my phone out of pocket. Because i was going to listen to a podcast on the way home. Do my radio. I had thirty nine text messages. And i was like what happened. Like this.

Everything's good we record this on a thursday night. We have now had the comedown from the last few days of the nba season ending of course recorded after game six. Then the next morning woke up and saw jaanus ordering a fifty piece from full being a man of the people driving around town fifty one fifty fifty peace dot slept and of course they had a parade today a. Pj tucker showed out. Bobby portis at a championship belt on. They were the city of milwaukee. Feel happy for them and happy for jaanus with the way it all played out. But now we're about to move into the off season. We are officially as of tonight. When we're recording this in one week's time we are going to have the nba draft and then not long after we have summer and we will have free agency. You put out a bunch of stuff about the nba draft to lot of little nuggets that were included in the updated mock draft. So you wanna talk to you about this Let's start with the most important thing. Which is the number one pick in the draft and it appears as if detroit will draft kate cunningham and that will be the end of that anything other than that seemingly would be a big surprise. Is that fair to say it would be a surprise. Yeah i mean we'll see how it shakes out. Maybe some team makes an over the top offer before they have to make their selection but as of now most executives around the league believe jade cunningham will be the number one pick to the detroit pistons and one of the things that we talked about at the end of the season. I'll give you credit for this. I said do you think that this is going to become a debate so many times in years past there is a guy that is Locked in at number one but then as the process goes on there are..

"Out of the way. 'cause i know we're all thinking right now that drives me crazy about these suppressors at. It's getting worse and worse. Some of the media members in attendance that are allowed to actually have a live microphone on their hands. Good god man. Like it was bad. And i'm not trying to sit up here on a high horse or anything but just because you're there doesn't mean you have to ask a question. I thought jose did a great job. There are people there like who got a microphone. They're asking like actively rooting for connor. There's another media member. That's actively calling out connor on the other end like chastising him like the ufc members of the media mostly outside of the anime bubble. This is a rupp performance especially the last ten to fifty minutes of the same. Luckily brian campbell saved everything at the end. But that's just something that kind of irked me and you could tell that poor mcgregor were both kind of fed up with the whole thing at the end of it. Because of some of the questions they were getting. So i've said my piece we'll move on. Everyone's been talking about this. That's by two two cents on the whole thing Clearly part of this approach from connor aka was to irk. Pori air like try to get under your skin and get them emotional and dozen. Had some good one liners mixed in there to fire back connor. He did his best to kind of keep a smile on his face. But i mean you're watching on your computer on your television. You're seeing all the different angles. You're seeing them. Close up you. Did you get any sense. That mcgregor rattled poor in any way. I don't know rattles. That's definitely a possible possible for me to say but annoyed i. I don't see how you can't be a little bit annoyed again. I know poor has been to this twice already Maybe it was worth the first time you know what happened like seven years ago but i i just don't see how even having gone through it already. He can't be a little bit like if not like personally insulted. But just just the the nonstop like needling. I know i'm someone who i can. I can ignore what someone saying like. But the the very fact that they're trying to eat will me and get a rise outta me it works. It's like the person probably tell my my blood skin bit up. My face is getting ready. Or whatever i'm not half the man doesn't worry is but i bet but when you're on that big of a stage you've got people bullying you for like no reason again like jose said like just because A question would be asked him. And the people start. Bullying like your. I don't know how as mature intelligent adult you can take that and just end. Just be like oh yeah. I'm just gonna shrug it off. No there's that he's in the middle of a weight cut. That's another thing. I thought is is looking at like man. This is the last thing he wants to be dealing with right now. You know it's i know. Know five his baz down to one forty five but is still awake car. It's a good then. He has to put up with mr crap though. I don't know of any mine. And i think the jolie's wife was so silly that i guess we stopped it up but i don't know of any particular a narrative or line really got to him. I thought pori had the best line when there were like is it. Why is he so different. This time round 'cause i knocked him out last time so all classes window. The guys got those best line and and it's not even trying to be clever. It is true so That that was the best bit. But but i do think that mcgregor is getting under his skin a little bit. Not not because for being clever or or for being particularly incisive but just the sheer level The sheer volume of it. I think i think boras though. Jose what do you think like. I know you felt like you know. Just in hindsight that it wasn't really affected by the trash talk but maybe the combination of the trash talk the length of the press conference poison very public. He hates doing these things Especially in the up to a fight especially after going through the first fight with connor. Connor can win these fights days before the actual event with the mental warfare. Connor just knows how to kind of poke and prod and and get that advantage. Do you feel like dustin was rattled. All and and on the flip side. Do you feel like dustin got to mcgregor at all with some of his retorts and his one liners and the is not mcgregor. Fast mcgregor sleep. I thought that was a great line to but did you see any of those guys get rattled at all. I want to say rattled. I thought maybe for a bit. We'll bright bright for the stare. Downs that may dust imported a day. That was a little rattled or congonhas had a bad but then when they got face to face and connor was doing all of the antics industrial was just like standing there kind of chuckling to himself and then connor through a front kick at doesn't pori during the face off at dustin didn't just took it he just like all right whatever like he didn't like rat. Try to rush anything really. The only thing says if you come at me on a slap in the face like that's all pretty much said so Front kicked him dusted. Just kind of looked down was like okay and walked away I so i don't know. I i'm not in either. Their minds con maybe again. Maybe this is connor trying to psych himself out or maybe it's more for him rather than to get at dusk maybe he needs to get into that mindset. I'm not trying against the mine economy or doesn't this is all just speculation but from the outside looking in just what i saw there from that staredown. I don't think either man is quite rattled. I think they're both just ready for a fistfight and it's nothing overly personal. It's just build up to the fight so just to put a this jose. How would you grade the first face off for this trilogy. Fi like we'll see another one tomorrow. Ceremony away wayans but this was kind of intense. You saw the front kick in you. Know the sunglasses. Connor during the su- dozens were the the florida shared so to speak. What what did you think like. Give that.

Thought we have gotten one game of the nba finals and the phoenix suns. One one eighteen to one. Oh five in a game that we just watched as they played against the milwaukee bucks. It was very late in the day until we realized that jaanus ought to cuba was going to be available for this game. I was honestly shocked by that news that he was going to be available for the game. And so i think that kind of set the stage for everybody had to make predictions about this. Give opinions about this leading into what you think's going to happen between the sons and the bucks and much like i guess it's gotta par for the course for what these playoffs have been by the time the game tips off. Whatever you had kind of baked into your prediction of this was already screwed up. Because i didn't know what janas at all. I didn't know if we'd see honest for five games. I know for six games. I didn't know. But i sure didn't think we'd see for seven games but i was glad that it was available for this game tonight. Christly might not see him for seven games after what we saw. Tonight's game though it might not last seven by dallas. We'll see that what's only one only one game. Yeah it is only one game. This was again the continuation of game six of the western conference finals. This was about chris paul. This was about a third quarter just taking over a game. And then in the fourth to chris you know the the books made their push. They had a burst early in the fourth campaign. Was the only guy doing anything for phoenix at that point. And then chris. Paul comes in and says enough enough now this. This is my game tonight. chris. Paul i thought it was funny. After the game he said to me andrews and the interview post game. He's like. I'm the old dog on the stand. All these young guys told me to push the pace. Push the base. He wasn't complete control the entire game against that switching books defense or if they dropped brook lopez didn't matter it didn't matter chris paul is dominant and i think he i think he had zero in the first quarter and then so all of us boys were in the last three quarters of this game but i thought at the end of the first quarter i said man is a really good pace not a ton of fouls now got slowed down a little bit as the game went on and you could tell the box felt like. They got a bad whistle. And i do think they did for a good portion of the game. They flashed up that number at the end of the I believe going into the fourth and it was like nineteen to six and you remember at least four of the six because of the countdown. That was going on within the arena. Every time those three thousand now they ended up. It was a little bit better but you know up and down the line. You look at this box score cab. And it's kinda crazy. Because the bucks had more rebounds than phoenix. The books had more assists than phoenix. This is not a big block shot. Game they did have a few more turnovers shut. Fuego percentages close. They actually shot threes extremely well and that has been a massive problem for them in these playoffs. They've shot thirty one percent as a team even though here they are as the eastern average representative and then that free throw number and the free throw percentage are both horrible. Phoenix is able to get twenty five at twenty six on the line. And milwaukee getting nine of sixteen from the lie so they got out scored sixteen points just at the free throw line. Yeah and i mean. I understand the way books fans might be angered by that i think overall it was more a representation of the way the nba calls falls now. It's like they don't call a lot of fouls on drives to the rim. There's certain leans. Instances chris middleton was fouled drunk driving to the basket. But that's the way it is oftentimes the nba. For better or for worse jumped shooters draw a little bit of contact. Get calls driving to the basket. You make it a lot of contact no whistle and so that's just the way it is right now and i would expect that devon booker might not draw four or five fouls off of jump shots in game two or again at all moving forward the series but forget about the owls like that's not why the bucks losses scheme. That's not why. I'm not saying that i'm saying that. Like in general. I mean there's much bigger problems for mike bootom holder and that bugs coaching staff to look at. And there's much other stuff that feel good about if you're the sun's yet what i'm saying. Is that box. Score is not indicative of what you would usually think for. Usually there will be things to really point out and be like they got beat here. They got beat here. They got beat here but they really didn't the because the box score doesn't tell you a lot. Oftentimes they got beat. Pick and roll defence. Because chris paul and devon booker getting whatever they wanted against the buck switching defense. They started off with the switch. One through five had brook lopez on chris. Paul or devon booker for far too many instances at seeped far too many. So you know at one point during that game the second half you try withdraw pick and roll coverage brook lopez kind of sags a little bit more towards the paint and christmas. Still getting whatever he wanted. I wonder you know also boot and holes or did try jaanus at the five a bit in that fourth quarter. Are we going to see more of that. Because tonight in tonight's game brook lopez was a minus seventeen and like minded seventeen. Also in the box score isn't always indicative of what happens in a game but in this incident it was. It was a bad defensive game for brook lopez not because of him as an individual. It's just the way in which that he can be exploited. Well in the crazy thing to me kev is they did hit on something for a stretch there where they were small and the honest the five now but that was after they had already went through a short period of time where they said okay. We're pulling lopez. This is unplayable. We can't live like this anymore and then they do this thing and they did this. A couple other series lead into this where they put portas in. They have portis. Do the same damn thing broke. Lopez does yeah. It's the craziest thing. I'm like why you're just doing this. You're doing you're having him play like brook lopez except he's smaller and maybe a little more nimble. But he still that he. You still can't have him on an island against the bookers in the course of the world. It happened too often happen every couple minutes every they were going to do that all night. They were do it all night in the is really simple basketball with the suns. We're doing at certain points. Or here's the problem. Though and this is the problem the bucks are going to have so you decide all right. We are not gonna let you target brook lopez's anymore okay. Fine so then. They tried the poor thing and that stunk then they went to the honest. Five thing the problem there is when they do janas five because you know they would typically have even tens or they don't have forbes and contin and they're gonna just target them exactly pick your poison so who you wanna get targeted. Do you want brook lopez's to get targeted. Or you want the because when you go there all of a sudden putting in more guys that they're just going to say all right now this guy and we're going.
