The administration of governor Ron DeSantis saying the proposed AP course by the college board lacks educational value and is contrary to Florida law. ABC deputy political director Avery Harper is here with more. The college board, which administers the SAT and other standardized testing, adding African American studies to its slate of advanced placement courses. In a letter obtained by ABC News to the college board, Florida officials rejecting the class, calling it quote contrary to Florida law and saying it quote significantly lacks educational value. The White House calling Florida's latest move perplexing. It is incomprehensible if you think about the study of black Americans, that is what he wants to block. Doctor Lisa hill is a Connecticut high school teacher who spent years helping craft the classes curriculum. Insulted because of the hard work that we have put into developing the course. The college board describes it as an exploration of the contributions and experiences of African Americans. It's being piloted in a small number of schools across the country before it's rolled out nationwide to any school that wants to add it as an elective course. Trying to make sure that people understand not just the contributions of African Americans have made, but the fact that our history did not begin with enslavement. The rejection of the course follows the passage of what's known as the stop woke act, legislation that puts restrictions on curriculum and conversations about race in Florida classrooms and workplaces. That law is being challenged in federal court. Florida is where wolf goes to die. The Florida Department of Education taking issue with a host of topics in the course, including the discussion of reparations and the Black Lives Matter movement. It's putting in a worldview that we don't agree with. Tina deskovic is a founder of moms for liberty, a conservative group that says it advocates for parental rights. In this class, they're telling you that colorblind is a horrible thing. It's a bad thing. You need to see the color. You need to separate people out. And we reject that. Hill, who is currently teaching this course in Connecticut, defends its importance. Part of teaching means that you bring in a variety of voices so that you're not listening to one drum beat. "Did you see the recent news about the anti Catholic bias in a local school district? This really has me worried and it plays into what you've been talking about at turning point USA for quite some time. Please help explain it to your audience. Yes. So the wonderful project veritas recently came out with a string of videos of an assistant elementary school principal admitting that they don't hire people if you find out they are Catholic. And they tend to end up being more right leaning conservatives. This is outright anti Christian anti Catholic bias that is being admitted on camera. And I want to just, for a second, let's extrapolate this. This is just what is being caught on camera. How many school districts? How many hiring managers? How many schools? How many administrators I should say? Hold these views that we're not able to get on camera for every one, there's probably another 5000 people in leadership. That are actively discriminating against Christians and Catholics. Let's play cut 40. So then what do you do? So have you found a bit certain? Religions tend to be more ringling. This one. Now I know that's hard to hear. There's a lot of background I was in a cafe, but this is the assistant elementary school principal admitting that they don't hire people if they find out they have a Christian or Catholic bend. So this is, this is happening in Connecticut and the Connecticut attorney general William Tong is now announcing an investigation of discrimination at the cost Cobb elementary school. "Ransom from Katie Th in Seattle. We have a lot of conversations on my show and then covers sort of the cultural war issues surrounding what's going on in schools all across the country. And I have saying on my own show that you know, the nuttiness of Seattle has a tendency to spread. And so if you live in some of the other air Areas where You feel like you might be far removed from that kind of activism, you realize Oh, my gosh. It is in my backyard now, And the same is true all across the country, bad activist teachers of L A or New York of Austin. They have a tendency to spread out into the surrounding communities. And then all of a sudden, you find yourself in a position. That parents and some school officials in Hudson, Ohio, find themselves in because the mayor there his name is Craig Schubert. He wants all five of the school board members to resign or Face possible criminal charges because of some coarse material that was taught in one of their high school classes. Now, part of the class work is and by the way this is writing in the liberal arts, college credit courses being taught At high school and part of this lesson includes a book that's called 642 Things to write about. And on each page. You have a different prompt that it's supposed to get you to think creatively and start to write some of the folks there decided to take a deeper look. Into what the prompts were perhaps a parent. Looked at the kids book just added curiosity, and they were all shocked to find out that there were some problems there. That number one told them to taste beer and then write about it. Obviously, we're talking about high school students, but to prompts that jumped out the most. Just because they're kind of gross One is to right. A sex scene. You wouldn't show your mom And another said, rewrite that sex scene. Into one that you would let your mom read. So first of all it will. That is disgusting. Don't do that. Don't write a sex scene. That you wouldn't show your mom And please, especially in high school. Do not rewrite the sex scene from above into one. You let your mom read. That is gross. Don't let your mom read any of your sex scene stuff. In fact, don't do sex scene writing. How about that? High schooler want to go into college? You know, you do your thing. Well, let's leave this at high school. And so folks got upset because obviously this is not appropriate material for kids. Regardless of whether or not they're taking a college level course. Is being taught in a high school. It's wrong. Full stop. Every reasonable person would know that now from the school board's perspective, because whenever you get any of these kinds of materials, and of course they're supposed to be generally. Some kind of committee, some sort of group that reviews the content just to make sure that it is in fact appropriate for that age level. And in this case they didn't do that. They apologize. They pulled the material from the classrooms. They note that no student actually was given this particular set of promise, But they still say are bad. It's wrong. Apparently, that's not good enough. Because the mayor of the city in Hudson, Ohio, says every single one of the people who are responsible for this incompetence, you must resign which are fully back or be charged, which is absurd. This particular mayor said that he contacted the judge, and this counts as child pornography. No, it doesn't. I am all for calling out the nonsense that teachers and principals and school boards are putting front in front of these kids, But we have to make sure that we're not going to a little bit too far into the crazy. This is not child pornography under any sense of the law. I'm not a lawyer. But I did watch every single episode of the good wife and the practice, even by the way, the last two seasons of the practice, which sucked so I know a thing or two. Also, I googled just some of the laws in Ohio and please, God, don't let anyone look at my Google search history. After all the research I did last night. This is not child pornography. They actually have a law that's very specific. That gives a carve out to educational materials Number one number two. The prompts themselves are not child porn, simply saying, write a sex scene, even if you give it to high school, or that's not child porn. It's a writing prompt, Ironically, even though I know wouldn't happen, But ironically, the content that 18 year old in one of the courses Might create based on that writing prompt could be considered child porn. But again when you're getting into the text version of things, it's a little bit wonky. So you know, let's relax just a little bit. Yeah just doesn't want to do it. So maybe maybe the solution is. Everybody says we're not doing it. But then it'll appear like you're not being fair to poor transfer to there's definitely going to be negative coverage of that if you if you take that stand which does seem bizarre if you were raised like your even me like you. Don't you know not beat up. Beat up women beat up all they may think. That's one of those things where i think of you know. Put it to the grandfather test. What would you grandfather say. Thanks for having me well, and this has to do, of course, with the transgender athletes competing, Uh and really this, you tell me, but it seems like the biggest concern here has to do with biological males now identifying his women and competing against young women in high school and that the collegiate level maybe there's an issue in the other direction as well. But this is really starting to reach a point now because of the Biden administration's recent exact The borders on this subject. Correct, right, you know, under by this executive order, it would seem to say that the practice that has been allowed in places like Connecticut high schools. Where someone could be on the boy's team and decide literally overnight to start competing on the girl's team and do so it would seem under the Biden executive order that that has to be allowed. As part of transgender rights. On the other hand, when pressed about it, the White House apparently said Well, funding for colleges will not necessarily be Hinged on these policies and by the way, a lot of this is decided already with certain requirements state to state or school to school or lead the league. To what if anything, a transgender athlete must do. Before competing on the opposite sex team. But I would think under the Biden executive order any such policies and rules could be challenged. Now if they're places where transgender athletes are required to take hormone therapy or have other restrictions. Before they compete on the opposite sex team. And have you been able through your investigation here, Cheryl Accent to determine. I know some jurisdictions. Some states that you have to be on testosterone blockers for a year again. This is if you are a biological male, and you've transition to female before you can compete. You have to be on testosterone blockers. But my understanding is there's a lot of science and evidence to suggest that testosterone is only one part of the equation here. And by the time you're in the midst, if not past puberty, that testosterone blockers really won't be selfish. And considering what that testosterone has already done for your body. Did you know what I mean? Yeah, But let me tell you that before I answer that part of the question, there are many places that require nothing. That simply say someone who has been raised are considered himself a male for all period of years, can decide as in Connecticut one day as these athletes have done, if you want to see the story go to full measure dot news, and it's posted there, the one that aired someday, but several athletes had been Running on the boy's team and then switch to the girls team the next season. And really clean, clean everybody's clocks. These formerly boys team members won all the competitions when the state competitions I think they want like 15 Championships over the next 2.5 years or so. What the truth is, I can just tell you that studies have been cited by the conservative activists and feminists who abandoned together and say this is unfair to women Studies have incited that say no amount of hormone therapy or treatment. Can, um, really impact the average advantage They say males are born with in terms of muscle mass and all kinds of other factors. Yeah, and you mentioned something there that honestly when I saw this in your report show, I guess, and I had a hallelujah moment because whenever I talk about this so often, I'll get colors and I'll get people messaging me. Where are the feminists on this? Where the feminist they're They're exploiting title nine, which was all about women. And now women are being harmed by this, But it does appear that there is and there under fire these feminists, But there are feminists who are emerging, saying none of none of this. This is wrong. Well, this is one of the things that interest me. I like to do off narrative stories and one reason I think this has not been well covered by many in the media. Because you can't neatly put it into a box. Certainly some of the same people like Martina Navratilova, the the Lesbian Tennis Star from my time she supports transgender rights all the way. It says that does not. The notion that transgender athletes should have rights and be respected does not trump the right, she says of women to have the opportunities afforded guaranteed to them under the title 9 1972 Civil Rights Act. I mean, the feminists say we're going back to where we started. If you begin to allow people who once identified or were born is mailed to them take over the women's field, and there are young women who are really suffering harm here. I mean, I think about some of these student athletes, especially those who you know, are raised below the poverty line in broken homes, whose whose one ticket to college could very well be athletics. And they are being excluded. They're not getting that opportunity because they're not qualifying. And the person that qualifies is someone who what As you say A good could have been a month ago was was running and identifying as a male and by the way, not usually at the top of their field and in the mail field, So these are typically athletes that we're not ex Elling. Among their male peers that can go into the female field. There was a weightlifter a giant, you know, big size weight lifter that I showed in my story that switch to the women's field and, you know, cleaned up the competition, and there's a picture showing. You know how much weight that person's lifting and it's hard to imagine that a even a similarly sized female would be able to compete with that. And, you know, maybe sometimes it happens, but I will also say, trying to represent both sides. Of course, as I always do. I don't know what the answer is. I certainly believe that if people you know have mixed identities, or there's transgender athletes who Have gone from male to female or vice versa. They should be afforded opportunities. I just don't know how to afford those opportunities in the way that's fair to everybody, including the transgender athletes and the people on the opposite sex team where they're joining. Right? I'm not often times, people say, Well, maybe there's a third division for transgender athletes. But of course, that has its own complications as well. And you also have to sort of have a critical massive of numbers there to make it make sense. And, well, not only that. I mean, I thought of that because people have suggested that as well, I heard them say that when they saw the story But let's let's look toward running. You'd have the same problem. If you're looking at women who switched to the men's came are meant to switch. The women's team combined together. Once again, the ones who were born may as male athletes, at least according to advocates and some science would still have the advantage. And you wouldn't have. He certainly wouldn't have a level playing field even though you would have transgender athletes, presumably from both sides mixed together, and then so then you keep them separately. Those who switched from male to female separate from those who switched from female to male and like you say, you're having a dwindling competitive field is that Is that really fun and care for them? And we should go back against the Biden administration's executive order. I believe this was on the first day of his presidency or maybe the second day And as you said, there's there's a lot of confusion. I think about how this executive order will be applied either through the Education Department and through the Justice Department of that, and because certainly there will be some level of litigation from both sides of the equation. Up until that executive order. States did have some freedom in this. As you mentioned, Connecticut had their set of rules. Other states can have their set of rules. And you know, as usual in America, that often.
