"Programs enrollment in cygnet depends on contract renewal And we now go to ABC News and early on we heard from Benny Thompson as well saying what would happen to you if you did what Steve Bannon has done really making it plain for the American people And when you talk about the public in general where do most Americans stand right now as far as how justifiable or necessary this committee's work is at this point Yeah it's interesting when you look at the latest snippy act poll that came out just tonight you're seeing that most Americans actually feel like they know enough about January January 6th But they don't feel like there's additional information necessarily that could be gleaned from this effort But that same poll also had a majority 51% saying that president Trump has been undermining democracy since January 6th and a larger margin than that 59% saying that in their view January 6th was an attack on democracy So people have internalized this I think the question for the committee is how much you continue to hammer that home Remind people of what happened just that 9 9 or ten months ago and again how terrible that day was even though right now there is in a sense among the public that there are unanswered questions Clearly there are things we don't know including what the president's role was you know the round that date We may never learn everything around it As John reported we could be playing out the clock quite a bit here over the ensuing months But the effort by this committee to try to keep this in the news keep this in the headlines keep this as a focus and a piece of conversation I think he's going to be a big one And we know so much surrounding this investigation into January 6th has really been clouded by politics If this process does get delayed through core challenges and runs deeper into next year what kind of impact do you think that this could potentially have on the midterms both in primaries and the general election next fall Yes fascinating Lindsay it's going to mean different things in different places For congresswoman Cheney but we saw so much of just tonight She's got a primary challenger who's been supported by president Trump And the message that president Trump is trying to send to all Republicans is that if you cross him you're gonna do that at your political peril and that it could cut back against you But the message to a more mainstream Republicans other Republicans who are now at least quietly concerned about how Trump has handled all of this but won't say so publicly the message that's being sent is that you're going to pay a political price for that that people are going to be reminded of what happened on January 6th And the timeline here is so interesting because the Democrats control the clock but so much of the information could be controlled by former president Trump and the people around him the Democrats could spread this out as much as they want They could wrap it up as quickly as they want They want to report out though that voters will have in time for the midterms They'll be able to take into consideration any of the information in the revelations Any of the concrete findings before next November because the closer you get to election day the more politicized it's going to be the more political it looks But again they don't want too much time to be spaced out there either So it's going to be a little bit of a dance between all of these different entities over the next 13 months or months or so Recline thank you so much I appreciate all of your insight as well And now we move back to the desperate efforts to rescue a missionary group that was kidnapped in Haiti The FBI has now made contact with the gang suspected of holding the 16 Americans in one Canadian They are demanding millions for their safe return ABC's Marcus Moore once again on the ground for us in Haiti tonight and actually caught up with a priest who was kidnapped and freed by that suspected gang.

"And good evening once again. This was day. One hundred sixty three of the biden administration big trouble tonight in the form of criminal charges however for donald trump's family run company and the longtime head of that company's finances prosecutors for the manhattan. Da accused the trump organization of running a fifteen year scheme to help executives avoid paying taxes by paying them off the books and defrauding federal new york state and new york city tax authorities. The indictment says seventy-three-year-old cfo. Alan weisselberg was one of those executives. He is charged with grand larceny tax fraud after being accused of dodging taxes. On one point seven million dollars in perks that should have been reported as income. Some of those perks include but are not limited to luxury cars. Rent free apartment. Even private school tuition for family members weisselberg surrendered to authorities earlier. This morning then came the perp walk as he was marched in handcuffs to his booking appearance where he was ordered to surrender his passport where he pleaded not guilty reports indicate he has so far resisted opportunities to cooperate with investigators earlier tonight. Michael cohen. who is cooperating in this investigation pointed out that today is excruciatingly public. Experience might just push weisselberg to start talking. I can tell you that the feel of handcuffs behind you back. It's not comfortable nor is it sitting there. And having you photograph taken now allen could be a tough guy for donald which is what we all wanted to be. That's when you're being investigated this fifteen count. Indictment also noted the trump organization kept an internal spreadsheet to track weisselberg fringe benefits. That company pleaded not guilty through its lawyers who say the case is politically motivated. These charges are unprecedented. In two hundred and forty four years we have not had a local prosecutor go after a former president of the united states for his employees or his company. I believe the political forces driving. Today's events are just that it's a political politically driven. If the name of the company was something else. I don't think discharges would have been brought as to the man whose name is over the door. The ex president. He stuck to his usual messaging today. Calling the indictment a quote which honda and blaming radical left prosecutors as all this was unfolding in new york. There was significant movement on capitol hill toward creating a select house committee to investigate the january. Sixth riot and insurrection speaker pelosi today named eight lawmakers to serve on that committee. One of them happens to be a republican congresswoman. Liz cheney of wyoming. Who broke with her party. Famously to be one of only two republicans who voted for the select committee to investigate the riot this afternoon. Congresswoman cheney was asked about reports that republican leader kevin mccarthy warned republicans. They could lose their committee assignments if they accepted an appointment to this committee. It's clear all this committee that our constitution our our dedication to the law and peaceful transfer our has to come above any any concern about partisanship or politics. I think the investigation. And what i know. It'll be thorough. It'll professional serious. And and not part and by the way and importantly. This committee is going to have power to subpoena witnesses now. The house republican leader mccarthy reacted to cheney's decision to serve on this committee by questioning her loyalty to her party. I was shocked that she would accept something from speaker pelosi. It would seem to me as i didn't hear from her. Maybe she's closer to her than us. I don't know we are also following the reaction to a major supreme court ruling today on voting rights. Today the court upheld arizona voting restrictions that a lower court had said discriminated against minority voters. We'll have more on this just ahead. Meanwhile it has been a week since the deadly collapse of that condo building and surf side florida. Such a sad scene there tonight earlier this evening. Rescuers resumed their search efforts after a nearly fifteen hour work stoppage. That happened this morning out of concern that the rest of the building could fall down. Eighteen people have died as many as one hundred forty. Five souls remain on the list of missing president biden first lady. Jill biden traveled to surf side. Today they spent three hours in a private meeting with loved ones. they also met with the first responders. Thank for their tireless efforts toughest. Part of course comforting. The families who have no answers their loved ones still unaccounted for human. I want to know with them. The countries with our message. Today's that we're here for you as one nation as one nation with that. Let's bring in our leadoff guests on this thursday night. Peter baker the veteran journalist and author. He is chief white house correspondent for the new york times. Daniel goldman former assistant. Us attorney for the southern district of new york also happen to serve as general counsel for the house intelligence committee during the first trump impeachment and former us attorney joyce vance twenty five year veteran as a federal prosecutor. Also one of the co host of the podcast sisters in law with kimberly atkin store. Joe wind banks and barbara mcquade. Good evening and welcome to you all daniel. I'd like to begin with you because earlier today. You said the indictment was detailed and that it was powerful for the folks in the viewing audience. Tonight who won't have the time or inclination to sit down read and digest the entire Indictment what do they need to know while this. This indictment outlines a fifteen year scheme to effectively pay allen weisselberg and others off the books through very sort of brazen and blatant feeds by creating effectively separate books. Alan weisselberg signed checks on behalf of the trump corporation that paid for his rent that paid for his car that paid for his children's tuition and it was all documented within the trump organization because it all went towards his overall salary but it allowed him to avoid paying income tax and it allows the trump organization to reduce its tax requirements. So from a from a very technical perspective. It is clear that the manhattan. Da's office has overwhelming evidence documentary evidence. They are clearly in possession of a number of tax records and documents including that spreadsheet. And so i think that from a if you're if we're going to focus narrowly on the charges in this indictment of the manhattan. Da's office has the goods and it appears as if it's a very strong case joyce vance attention spans being what they are in this day and age for people who wanna cut to the chase and get a preview please preview what kinds of penalties weisselberg and the company writ large are looking at if convicted sure said the company obviously can't go to prison so we're talking about fines in that scenario ultimately perhaps if the new york attorney general has appetite to do it she could go after the company using some of new york. State's blue sky laws arguing that corporations that operate with a persistent pattern of fraud or deserving of sanctions. She's done that in other cases the real here. I think you know everyone sees. There's a strong case against weisselberg. Everyone sees that. This is not an indictment that can reach the former president. They apparently don't have proof of his intent or knowledge of these schemes. And the question is. Is there something here that would cause weisselberg to flip and to cooperate the road. The reality is that sentencing here is likely in low single digits. Something that weisselberg would have been aware of going into it as michael cohen says. Sometimes the feeling of the handcuffs can can cause people to change. Certainly when people find out that their children have exposure to prosecution that can become a bargaining chip for it might be as was the case with michael cohen. That just the mounting pressure of legal bills and perhaps paying back taxes could cause weisselberg to ultimately flip..

"Day before the riot over herself, Let a group of Trump supporters on a tour of the U. S. Capitol. According to Congressman Steve Cohen. Way saw congressmen vote We're taking a group of people for a tour sometime after the third before the city with a capital has been closed for tours due to covert overt wasn't leading a tour but a reconnaissance mission so writers knew exactly where to go when they attack the capital. Despicable, outrageous The disgrace every single word ally. Let's hear from you. Colorado's third district Congresswoman, Lauren Bobbitt. Welcome back to America first. Thank you so much for having me Dr Gorka, Isn't that incredible? I bring my family my four sons, my husband, my mother through the capital with the Capitol Hill Police officer walking with us for for this wonderful ceremony to be sworn in as the United States Congress, Woman and the D. Triple C. He turns it into this. This complete false attack this conspiracy theory that there was a re Constance mission. Well, are you taking any action? I'm curious. So the congressman, so there was there? We saw it, He said it. Steve Cohen has he apologized for calling your family members members off some kind of insurrectionist. Reconnaissance mission. I have not heard apology. And I doubt that I would and I don't know if it means anything If I were to receive one, really, how I How I get that, but him and others that are involved in this if taken health back in 22. Yeah, absolutely. It's taking the house back. I was there any any comment? You can give us. I know it was a secret vote outrageous that they're not prepared to put their names to the issue that Congresswoman Cheney, who voted to impeach the president was kept in her position is the third highest ranking member of the GOP in the House, your reaction to the swamp protecting its own. Well there. There's a lot of that. That takes flight here. But Dr Gorka we all came together as a conference and had a very healthy discussions. You know, some some members were pleasant than others to hear from, But at the end of the night, there was a vote and overwhelmingly, the chairwoman was Voted to remain and that seat and in that position, and I do believe that she will feel the weight of that conference and there will be accountability from that. Um, certainly. You can't. You can't go through all of your colleagues. Um Expressing how they feel about something that you did and not on, not grow from that and not self evaluate. So I'm hopeful that that this was a no accountability session and we could move forward with that. Um, I was proud to take the votes that I did, and I stood by them, and I think that Could say this. It was very much everyone agreed that they weren't necessarily mad at the vote. Every every every person has a reason to vote the way they do. Um, you know, I couldn't see Running the president through this snap sham impeachment and not giving him his due process his constitutional right to due process before that took place, But it was. It was a statement that went out as the chairwoman as the spokeswoman for the conference. And so I think that that was the main grievance there on day Just Just the reflection that that had on the conference itself. But I am doing everything that I can to make sure we take back the house in 20 points, but I have to. I was shocked. You just said what you said, because we're talking about a woman who agreed to a sham impeachment with no evidence. No representatives of the president it took eight hours is opposed to the 37 days it took for Bill Clinton and the 81 days it took the president Jackson. So it sounds sounds that the swamp is winning. And you don't care. No, no, I can't. I care tremendously. I don't like the vote. I'm just saying that that was the one team that came out from the night that it was the position that the spokesperson because we Dr Gorka. We weren't looking at the other nine people who voted that way. Um, it would be positioned that's held by the current C. Voted for impeachment as the third highest member off the GOP as the leader of the conference, and she now has paid no consequence. Well, we can talk about 2022 till the cows come home, but this woman betrayed the American people. In my opinion by supporting a sham impeachment, a railroading Okay, let's get back to the big issue. You Being targeted. Congresswoman Green is being targeted. What are you going to do to push back on the lies on the calumny on the libel on the fact that you're only being targeted by absolute propaganda? Because you stand for what I think is the magma movement. Talk. Talk to our millions of listeners. What is Lauren Bobbitt going to do right now? Well, we just We just voted, and I voted teammate sure that we're not stripping anyone of their committee assignments. And if we're gonna have this talk about committee assignments, we need to look at the Democrat Party. We need to look at the hypocrisy and hold those members of Congress accountable. We have Congressman Eric Swalwell, who still has a seat on the intelligence committee with security clearance after without an investigation into his relationship with a Chinese By this is absolutely absurd. And then we're gonna go back through some some old tweets of people. I mean, is this the standard now to just strip everyone of what they can do for the people who sent them here to work on their behalf to be their voice to be the representative that Democrats could just say? No, You're not allowed to work when you're here. That's that's not right. And if we're going to talk about, uh, tripping committee assignments, then we need to look at the Democrat Party and have some serious talks about their members. Yeah, well, we wish you all the best. The door is always open for you. Here in America First followed this woman support her on Twitter at Lauren Bobbitt B o B. E. R T and also Lauren for freedom dot com. You are a proxy. The president was a proxy for the forgotten men. Women and you now are Oxy for the Make America. Great Again. Movement and the more they're coming after you the better a job you're doing. God bless you, Congresswoman. Bobbi, I'm Sebastian. Gorka. This is America first. We've only just started three hours left. Don't touch that dial. We're going to have Nigel Farraj, The president's good buddy, the father of the Brexit movement. We're gonna have Breitbart's Matt Boyle. We're going to have and you know from the UK You.

"Democrat leader and I are discussing a similar agreement now. I've been heartened to hear my colleagues say he wants the same rules from the 2000 to apply today, because certainly 20 years ago, there was no talk none whatsoever of tearing down longstanding minority rights on legislation. Legislative filibuster is a crucial part of the Senate. Leading Democrats, like President Biden himself have long defended it. Democrats themselves Yes. Six just been six years, using it literally to block bills from Senator Tim Scott's police reform to coronavirus relief and less than four years ago when it was Republicans who held the Senate, the House and the presidency. 27 current Democrats plus vice president hide, Harris signed a letter insisting his longstanding rule should not be broken. So if the talk of unity and common ground is to have meaning, and certainly if the rules from 20 years ago are to be our guide that I cannot imagine the Democratic leader would rather hold up the power sharing agreement and simply reaffirm that his side won't be breaking this standing rule of the Senate, appreciate our own going good faith discussion to look forward to finding the solution together. From the Senate floor earlier today, and a joining us on the phone is congressional reporter Mike DeBonis of The Washington Post. Let me begin with the timeline as we look at this evenly divided Senate When do you think negotiations will be wrapped up between the two leaders? Well see, that is a very big question. I don't have a good answer to it. It seems that they're closer to the beginning of the negotiation In the end at this point, I think there's pretty good consensus on the Democratic side that they're not in any mood to make any concessions to Mitch McConnell, who You know, lost his majority in the January 5th charge around elections, but it seems to me that the Republicans are eager to a exact sum. Some sort of concession from Democrats Aziz a enter into this new 50 50 era, and it seems like it's going to take some timeto work that out. Whether that's gonna be a matter of days or weeks, I think remains to be seen, but I think there's not much hope of this. Being done this week. So give us a sense of what will happen in the interim, especially with the committee assignments, so basically, the committees will continue under their previous uh uh, you know, constituencies and the Republican majority. Technically, the Republicans will remain the chairman until the committees of reconstitute and under the new Resolution, and that obviously has implications for some of these nominations that were coming through for the by the administration. So far as the base of the reality is that there's gonna be any confirmations. It's going to take unanimous consent of all 100 senators to bring those directly to the floor and bypassed committee process. I present it. Is there any of these air at all? Controversial They're going to be in limbo until some sort of arrangement is worked out. Is there a blueprint we've been talking about? What happened? 20 years ago, when we also had a 50 50 Senate back in 2001. Will that provide the roadmap for these two leaders? I certainly for Chuck Schumer. They his hope is that it is the road map. It is he be. He's made statements saying that he'd be very pleased with a carbon copy of the 2001 agreement. However, that's not what Nishikawa saying Mitch McConnell I think it's saying in so many words, that that was a different era. There was a West partisan era in the Senate. The filibuster was not in serious peril that if you didn't have a zoo, many Democrats as you do now, suggesting that Uh, that it it should be discarded. And he thinks that this is a good issue to rally his conference around and picking early fight with Democrats on And that's I think that's maybe a good great deal of his thinking is about getting unity and his own ranks against this new Democratic majority. And of course, we should point out. That's when Dick Cheney, the vice president, a Republican, held the tie breaking vote reminding our listeners were talking with Mike DeBonis of The Washington Post. Just turn real quickly to the house and this statement earlier today by Republican leader Kevin McCarthy on some dissension among House Republicans over the number three leader in the House, Liz Cheney, the representative from Wyoming, who voted to impeach President Trump earlier this month. You know, it's different within our party and maybe with others people have difference of opinion. We will have a conference next week. We won't share it to the public but will answer the questions. Everybody has. This is the same leadership team with the ranking members and others became five seats away from winning a majority. When everybody in America thought we're going to lose 20 seats Yes, we allow differences of opinion inside our conference. They're welcome. But I think there's questions that need to be answered style in which things were delivered the end of the day. We will unify because our policies air right which will unify us around. We have growing pains. Yes, we will. But we will do it in our private matter of a conference that we hold every time and we'll have it next week. Yes, sir. Was Cheney to remain his conference here? No. Yes, that from the House Republican leader, Kevin McCarthy of California, Mike DeBonis what questions are arising within the GOP conference. Well, they're among the core of hardcore Trump loyalists, particularly members of the House Freedom Caucus. There have been very vocal since Liz Cheney. Came out strongly for President Trump's impeachment that she is no longer fit to serve as AH, party leader That said, This is a This is a small rump among a nearly 200 member caucus. Excuse me more than 200 member caucus at this point, and it really remains unclear whether they have the votes or the wherewithal to follow through with Ousting her. And, you know, I think the would you heard Leader McCarthy say is You heard him acknowledge that there's uh, you know, dismay with the way that you know it's not with what she said. But the way she said it, and I think he suggested what he was suggesting is that you know there needs to be an opportunity for those members, too. The lack of a better way of putting it bore off some steam, share their feelings and give, uh Congresswoman Cheney a chance to respond in a private form with her colleagues. On did I did I would buy reporting is indicating that there's some Expectation that that may be enough to sort of bring down the temperature on this a bit that in the passage of time, uh past the impeachment past the events of January 6 past President Trump's.

"Show Liz Cheney, the Republican Conference chair woman in the House of Representatives. She joined us earlier in the program to talk about Nancy Pelosi's meltdown on CNN over covert relief. And also the Barrett hearings, always interesting chatting with Congresswoman Cheney. Here is part of our discussion. Congresswoman. We played a little bit. We dipped in live toothy Barrett hearing is Justus. We were going on the air this hour. Currently it's Judge Barrett answering questions from New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, who's a Democrat. You've been watching from the other side of Capitol Hill. Metaphorically, at least as these hearings have been playing out, and I wonder what your assessment has been thus far. Boy, I, You know, I don't know Judge Barrett. But I have to tell you I have just been every moment that I've been able to tune in and watch so proud and so impressed, you know? From the moment that we watched her, walk out the front door of her house and mowed her kids literally into her minivan, you know, and as a mom of five. That was an experience I know well. But she was driving a mini van to the airport to get on a plane to go to the White House to be nominated to the Supreme Court. United States and so you know that introduction tour was just very I found it emotional, very inspiring and watching her now answer these questions. She's she's such a The lesson in calm competence. I think that we ought to be pulling clips of the descriptions that she gives in terms of what is the responsibility of a judge. What is the role of the judiciary in our system? Why It's so important for judges to follow the rule of law. Wherever it may lead every time you know, she gives one of those descriptions. It is. It's just something I think every American on a watch. And you know, the Democrats have tried time and time again, including in some very condescending ways, suggesting that somehow she's not thinking for herself. You know, because she, you know Justice. Scalia was one of her mentors as he is for so many of us Well, she's certainly not reading anyone else's notes, because there are no no, Zach, please all in her head. No, I'm I'm just blown away. I mean, I knew she was impressive. I think she has just been, you know, so so refreshing toe watch at the centre of you know these these partisan attacks on her and efforts by the Democrats in particular. And put judges on the court who are going to try to make law from the bench. Somebody who really understands the role of a judge and of justices, and I've just been totally impressed, and she has blown away every single Democrat who tried to trip her up. At one point yesterday, There was a question from Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana. And he quoted Abram ex candy who's this sort of woke grifter racialist who talks about anti racism really quite extreme, but he's gaining prominence on the left. He's not just a professor, but he's got all sorts of platforms now. And his anti racism, quote unquote. Unfortunately, at least to my eye, sometimes spills over into racism itself. He had launched an attack against Judge Barrettes family, particularly her adopted Children. From Haiti, and Senator Kennedy gave Judge Baird an opportunity to respond. I just want you to listen to cut 12. Um, but he had professor at Boston University. Says that because you and your husband have two Children of comic That you're a white Communist. The implication is that you're a racist and that you used your two Children. Prop. You use your Children's props, Senator Kennedy. It was the risk of people saying things like that. Which would be so hurtful to my family that when I told Senator Graham this morning that my husband and I had to really weigh the costs of this, it was saying deeply offensive and hurtful things. Things that are not only hurtful to me but hurtful to my Children who are my Children who we love. Until we brought Brought home and made part of our family and accusations like that are cruel. There they are. How low can you go? I didn't want to ask that question when you kids were here. I'm sorry. I have to go through that. Congresswoman, You are a prominent conservative woman. You're a mother. I feel like that question and that answer must have struck a chord with you. Well, I think absolutely. I think any anybody watching with any humanity it would strike a chord with. I think that that attack on judge barrette in her family, she said. It's cool. I think it's evil. And I just I think that we were so blessed in this country that people who are as exceptional as Judge Barrett is Um, are willing to step into what what can be very, very cool system with those kinds of attacks. You know, she understands how important it is that We have justices on the Supreme Court who are going to uphold the rule of law. For my full interview with.

"No congresswoman Cheney. I deplore any domestic terrorist labeling ANC or congresswoman Omar any of them. But I think her attack on the first amendment tech on the New York Post is remarkable. I also do not believe it is incitement to violence for me to be talking about it. What do you think about congresswoman, Omar and congressman sees response to these comments about some people did some things. Well, I I think first of all, you know, day should not try to act as though they are victims and hide behind this notion that somehow they can't be criticized because if anybody criticizes them it's been incitement to violence. That's ridiculous. Secondly, congress no Mars comment were appoint and for her to say nine eleven was close. Come people did something and then for okay Cortez to to defend her and sale, you're taking her. Comments out of context, if you criticize and that, you know, it's it's it is shameful especially for Representative from New York. Furthermore, I watched this whole thing unfold over the last couple of days and kind of cardio Cortez went on to attack our colleague, Dan, Crenshaw and said he should do something about terrorism. And I think she maybe has not understood that he he lost his eye. He gave his is fighting for our freedom for her for him. And I think maybe she should go thank him for that. But that Ilan Omar's comments were appoint they were disgraceful. She made them at an Ed an organization called care, which is an unindicted co-conspirator, but their ties to off and the holy land trial. And it is outrageous at the Democrats continue to let someone like that sit on the foreign affairs committee. So there's no justification or defence in my view possible. For what congresswoman Omar said. I think that it's wrong. And I think it's shameful that congressman cardio Cortez's protecting her. I want to play for the audience. The original Omar congresswoman Omar's comment at the care gathering in Beverley hills because I've never played them out of context. They played the whole phrase, and that's why I want people to hear them again. In the context of your interview about it here. It is. So to me, I say raise hell make people uncomfortable.
