Republican Rep. Chip Roy uses hearing on anti-Asian discrimination to 'glorify lynching' and criticize China

"A pre scheduled hearing today, focusing on hate crimes across our country, But of course, in light of the shootings in Atlanta. Those attacks against Asian Americans became front and center during the hearing, Republican Congressman Schiff Roy of Texas, arguing that all Americans deserve protection, and during his remarks, he invoked a Texas saying that critics claim celebrates the idea of lynching. Here's what he said. Going on. Appreciate are gathering here today. It's obviously a new important subject matter. Um, and to be clear all Americans deserve protection and to live in a free and secure society with the fundamental nature of what we expect out of government, right. Secure the blessings of liberty, as we say in the Constitution, United States, um The victims of race based violence, and their families deserve justice. And that's the case what we're talking about here with the tragedy what we just saw her and Atlanta, Georgia. I would also suggest that the victims of cartels moving illegal aliens deserve justice, the American citizens in South Texas. They're getting absolutely decimated by what's happening. Our southern border deserve justice. The victims of Riding a looting in the streets last week. Businesses closed Burn lime started last summer. Deserve justice Way believe in justice, right? There's an old saying in Texas about, you know, find the all the roof in Texas and get a taller tree. You know, we take justice very seriously, and we ought to do that round up the bad guys. That's what we believe. Um, my concern about this hearing is that it seems to want to venture into the policing of rhetoric in a free society free speech, um and away from the rule of law and taking out bad guys. And as a former federal prosecutor, I'm kind of predisposing wired to want to go take out bad guys. And that's bad guys of all colors as bad guys of all persuasions. That's bad guys targeting people for all different reasons, and I think we need t be mindful of that. And so now we're talking about whether talking about China Chai calms the Chinese Communist Party. Whatever phrasing we want to use and it some people are saying, Hey, we think those guys they're the bad guys, for whatever reason. Let me just say clearly, I do. I think the Chinese Communist Party running the country China. I think they're the bad guys, and I think that they're harming people. And I think they are engaging in modern day slavery. And I think that what they're doing the wingers and I think that what they're doing targeting our country and I think that what they're doing to undermine our national security and what they're doing to steal our intellectual property and what they're doing to build up their military and rattle throughout. Specific. I think it's patently evil deserving of condemnation, and I think that what they did to hide the reality of this virus is equally deserving of condemnation, and there's hardly any getting around that that in fact happened. The comments of Congressman Chip Roy of Texas that today's House Judiciary Committee hearing Democrats on that committee quick to criticize the Republican lawmaker, representative Grace Manning of New York, who was of Taiwanese descent, calling out her calling for his words and his support of former President Donald Trump in the last year. The former president has repeatedly described coronavirus as quote the Chinese virus or kung flew. Critics claim it has helped foster an environment in which there are hate crimes against Asian Americans.

"Today. This is for, um I mean akin. Pressure is mounting in the House to vote on a bill to reinstate the extra $600 per week. Unemployment benefit has talks with Republicans on the next Corona virus Relief bill have stalled. Meantime, Democrats are expected to vote Saturday on a cash infusion for the U. S Postal Service. And yesterday, the Senate Intelligence Committee released its final bipartisan report on Russian interference in the 2016 election. So the two parties reached somewhat different conclusions to discuss all this. We're joined now by Los Angeles Congressman Adam Schiff. Congressman Schiff. Thanks so much for joining us. It's a pleasure to be with you. There is this group of House Democrats, pushing Speaker Nancy Pelosi to vote on a smaller villa on the extra $600 per week. Unemployment benefit. This weekend. I mean, as you know these enhance unemployment insurance benefits ended at the end of last month. Do you support this effort, since it appears that talks with Republicans are really not going anywhere currently? Well, I think Speaker Pelosi is one of the best negotiators. There is so I will let her devised the negotiating strategy, but the unemployment compensation benefits needed be extended. Indeed, we passed a bill three months ago to do exactly that through the end of the year. This. This train wreck that were in of inaction right now is the result of the fact that Mitch McConnell kept that bill blocked for three months and didn't move a bill of his own. Basically wanted to, I think, create this crisis to change his bargaining position. That's a terrible disservice to the millions of Americans who really need this unemployment compensation. But it's not just about unemployment compensation. It's small businesses still struggling. It States and cities that are goingto layoff public health workers and other emergency responders on renters who are going to get foreclosed upon, so I don't think we can treat any one of these problems in isolation. We really need to dress all of them. Yes, but at this point, I mean the bell put forward is More than $3. Trillion Republicans have proposed a $1 trillion mean that's pretty far apart. Do you know anything about plans to start discussions again? That that we don't know yet? Well, I hope that there are back channel discussions going on along, but we have to recognize the reality in Mitch McConnell's GOP conference in the Senate. Is that I think half of the senators there don't want to do anything at all on this is the problem. Half of the job, he senators don't recognize that Americans are in need or believe that the federal government should assist Now these same senators Support a $2.2 trillion tax cut that benefited very wealthy families and large corporations. They apparently believe we have the resources to do that, but don't believe that we have the resources to help. Renters or the unemployed or small businesses struggling to survive. I think that's unconscionable, but it does show you just how far apart we are. Well. The House is returning Saturday to vote on a bill to fund the U. S Postal Service. I know that you've been hearing from a lot of constituents about this. I mean, I saw that you tweet that you've received more than 4000 e mails and calls about the USPS. What our constituents worried about. Well, they're worried about the degradation in service that they're experiencing already and potentially worse to come. Their small business people who rely on the mail to deliver packages to their customers and Now these packages are being delayed. Their customers are complaining. It's not cost effective for them to use the private carriers, so they're worried about their business survival veterans who can't get timely prescriptions filled from the VA On others in rural areas that are worried about Andi. This is outside of my district, but in rural areas, they're worried about the service really degrading because of these efforts to Essentially run the post office like a business Well, those rural routes are not profitable on they're likely going to be the ones to suffer the most. So then you do support the $25 billion cash infusion. Absolutely. And again. This was something that we passed months ago in the house that we're going to take up yet again. I hope that it will have more support among Republicans this time. You know, I think you know all the members of Congress, a House and Senate and the president are getting an earful ahs they should from Americans around the country who really appreciate their postal service. It's some of the common glue that's held this country together on people are completely reliant on it. Many many families are and so I think the president is getting a sense now, and I hope the Republicans in Congress also That they made a serious mistake in attacking the Postal Service on even more serious mistake and doing it for the reason of trying to disenfranchise millions of people for voting, So enough pressure to sway Senate Republicans. Well, I hope so. It's certainly been enough pressure to sway the president and the postmaster general, at least in the very near term. The postmaster announcing a retreat from these disastrous changes that he was implementing, which were delaying mail deliveries during the pandemic, and in the run up to the first election we've had in a century during a pandemic. So the public protest has been effective. But it's not like we can afford a lack of vigilance here. The president nonetheless continues his daily attacks on voting by mail, something that he himself just apparently did. It doesn't think other Americans should have equal access to. But are you satisfied that those that that promise by Postmaster General to joy that he will suspend those operational changes until after the 2020 election? Does that satisfy you? In terms of The agency's ability now to respond that there won't be anything funny going on with the USPS. You've called for the postmaster general to resign. I mean, do you still stand by that? I certainly do, you know, And I think you should resign for several reasons. I think the changes that he implemented during the pandemic and in the run up to this election have been disastrous for the Postal Service. They were eminently foreseeable and Because they were so Emily Foreseeable. I think you have to recognize that this is being done quite deliberately on DH..

Line up by trump and other situation was about the rain issues now now off the floor. By the way there was a private conversation and there was Of witness swap some members of the Biden family would testify and in some of the trump administration officials testified. That was kind of all knicks before it started the the third day Schiff argued that's carson shift at the truth matters I and He said okay. If you don't think it was that big a deal but you think the president did something wrong still level rise to the level of impeachment. You you should find him guilty. He should be removed. And then of course you're going to have the GOP response which by the way the president is not happy. It's on Saturday. Doesn't get that much attention. Yeah it's weird timing for that that is for sure now and the other thing I think people need to be aware of here I I've I've sent to quite a bit of excitement over the past couple of days especially from Democrats and for people who are critical of the president About what some folks are referring to is brilliant. Schiff cites Russia collusion in opening argument at Trump impeachment trial

"Now opening arguments in the Senate impeachment trial yesterday house and tell committee chairman and lead impeachment manager Adam Schiff using video clips to explain the argument as to why Democrats believe the president abused his power and obstructed Congress while dealing with Ukraine congressman Schiff saying the executive branch has not provided documents or witnesses ABC news legal analyst Dan Abrams says the video clip technique is supposed to help make the case for witnesses their argument is we don't have to go through the courts we shouldn't have to go through every time because Congress has that power we shouldn't have to go then litigate each and everyone you the Senate should now subpoena golden to testify in some of these other witnesses to testify and so it connects the substantive argument of obstruction of Congress with the argument we need witnesses and I think that's really the most important thing if they want to get conveyed to the

"The whistleblower and I'm determined to make sure that identity is protected but as I said to Mister Khan away you have an opportunity after the witnesses testified to make a motion to clean any witness and compel of a Much Ado About Nothing did you get is a new TV show by Adam Schiff it's cold days of our lives I wish this was a comedy but it's a tragedy at the end of the day that a man who was obviously drug impaired if anyone watching these hearings looks at shift size who may have never seen this man before can tell me with any certainty well let me put it another way is there a doctor in the house who can tell me if you think that Adam Schiff was on medication of some kind I say you hitting below the belt now I believe that someone who was medicated has no right running a impeachment hearing number one nor should he be on the intelligence committee do you have any idea that an intelligence committee is supposed to be spending its time doing what protecting the national security of the United States of America mainly against spies those wanting to undermine this nation and look what this bug guide bomb chef is doing to this nation but I don't blame him it's Nancy go Losi the most lenient thirty seven thirty sweatpants its goal Losi who did this to America the Losi has destroyed jurisprudence in America alosi has overturned all the rules of America which is thing that separated us our member from grade school and I'll say it again I used to fall asleep listening to social studies teachers sometimes things would come through and the one thing I remember was the thing that separates our nation from all others especially those under the communist boot was that in America an individual is permitted to face his accusers thus far Donald Trump is never faced this accusers not been able to question the so called whistle blower humorous lawyers and that's because the Losi has learned that the photo of Mussolini Nancy Pelosi is literally practicing what Mussolini practice in Italy what Stalin practiced in Russia what Hitler practiced in Germany which is a trial against an individual with the conclusion has been made before the trial it's a tragedy it's not a comedy I could say it's Much Ado About Nothing which was written by William Shakespeare the great white male writer three fifteen ninety eight in fifteen ninety nine and in it nothing in the place title means gossip rumor overhearing it's a very very interesting and very very compelling to me that the title Much Ado About Nothing applies today the play's title means gossip room or over hearing in much ado about nothing and now we have an obviously drug addicted drug addled chairman shift at all I'll bet my career on it I would challenge Adam Schiff to take a drug test I want to know what drugs he is on and if it renders them incompetent or incapable of knowing the difference between truth and a lie I'm willing to put my career on the line a shift objects to me calling him a drug addict I challenge congressman Schiff to take a drug test and show to the world there is no other explanation for this man's demeanor his obsession again if your doctor or psychiatrist and you could tell me what drugs you think he might be on go ahead make our day chef is so out of his league as Michael good one of the New York Post as written a death penalty is not a fair sentence for jaywalking guilty and now for the trial says Adam Schiff the magician you're guilty and now we're gonna have a trial to prove you guilty says Adam Schiff but good win says a death penalty is not the fair sentence for Jay walking another great article came out today about this topic that was written by a man is generally not a supporter of Republicans are of trump by Jonathan Turley who's always been sort of anti trump almost like an never trump from my right Jim kind of an anti Trumper down a line and Turley knows which way this is going Charlie said are Democrats building a collapsible impeachment I collapsible impeachment what does that mean what does it mean it means that the building will collapse because the higher the building the white as foundation usually when you build a building that's very tall you need a very wide foundation and he said there is no higher constitutional structure then the impeachment of a sitting president and for that reason and impeachment must have a wide foundation in order to be successful and this never Trumper says the Ukraine controversy is not such a foundation and Democrats are building a structurally unsound case that will be lucky to make it to the Senate before collapsing for three years they said Russia Russia Russia collusion I will not collapse Ukraine Ukraine Ukraine collusion Ukraine Ukraine Ukraine solution Turley again the anti trump or rights putting aside that legal judgment the glaring absence of any articles of impeachment related to Russia would raise a rather obvious problem if these criminal or impeachable axis so clear why would Democrats not include them in the actual impeachment that's because they're not really there as you know speaker go OC has been openly hostile to impeachment she knew that this impeachment would collapse around them probably cost them a few if not many Democrat house seats in the parts of America than that and they're not in the porn belt people in the corn belt may actually be able to understand that Colosio overreached and now they've sort this impeachment tragedy and we believe and many believe it will collapse we're reading about the infamous the infamous stadium in Rome they'd feed today a Roman stadium was built in a rush to restart the gladiator games an atmosphere not unlike the current bread and circus friends in Washington it eventually collapsed the stadium collapse that was built to fast killing or injuring twenty thousand spectators Charlie goes on and says the two prior impeachments show the perils of building slammed the rental yeah this he says then there's the impeachment of president Johnson's which also failed in the Senate and while accomplishing nearly a dozen articles a dozen articles a dozen articles it was narrowly grounded in an alleged violation of the tenure of office act and that's because that President Johnson remove war secretary Edwin Stanton in the finance of Congress and that law and that impeachment was weak and narrow and failed it fell apart it fell apart but it fell apart because senators on the opposition party would not stand for such a flawed removal of a president who was widely despised and I as I sit here I'm convinced that there are senators on the Democrat side who'll go along in the same way he says the leaning tower of Pisa is a reminder of those who strive for great heights without worrying about their foundations if Democrats seek to remove a sitting president they are laying a foundation that would barely support a bungalow let alone a constitutional power such a slender impeachment would collapse in a two mile headwind in the Senate but then he concludes with a very interesting statement which I wonder what you think about it he said of course this may not be designed to last at all much like the burning man structure raised each year in the Nevada desert this impeachment may be intended to last only as long as it takes to burn it to the ground what do you think he means by that what do you thing Jonathan Turley an anti trump who says this is up absurd basically it's a collapsible impeachment says that maybe this whole thing was intended to last only as long it takes to burn it to the ground what do you think they're trying to do here if it won't last how long do you think this is going to go on there are other topics I'm gonna talk about that you can call in on the phone and here is a five five four is average eight five five four hundred seven two eight two decades of darkness are ahead says Michael savage a long article in bright part which has been linked up surprisingly on drugs for twenty four hours I'm sure it'll be drop right now but mention a minute I mention it but savage does decades of darkness even if trump wins what do you think I meant by that and why do you think I'm pessimistic about the future of America well I think you can pretty much figure that one out but maybe you can't lights camera action you're on at eight five five four hundred seven two eight two in San Francisco elderly Chinese men were beaten robbed by gangs I cannot mention what the gangs look like it's not permitted in America anymore let's just say they're not from the community and let's say they're not white males and let's say that the not rabbis driving around in a van and let's say the not Irish priest driving around jumping out of the van a beating up these Chinese almost killing them the steely watches in their money because people in Chinatown generally work for cash pull little busboys pool waiters and these gangs come over the bridge they're beating them up in the streets of Chinatown a leaving them for dead and then racing away in their car and stinking rotten crime ridden Pelosi San Francisco the police are not able to trace the license plate I can find a license plate is right on the on the screen what you do is look at the video there's a license plate of the thugs car thus far they've been no arrests because they're not white males from Mississippi this is the savage nation ever get a sound off on impeachment or the.

"More. Now on our top story reaction to the release of the Miller report, California, congressman democrat, Adam Schiff chair of the house Intel. L committee still floating the concept of impeachment even though the report finds no evidence of Trump Russia collusion. Here's congressman Schiff. We need to look at the full report, certainly what Bob Muller has revealed on the obstruction of Justice issue is the most concerning because that of course involves the president's own conduct his own falsehoods. The American people is efforts to get other people to tell lies is effort to deter people in cooperating with the investigation is effort to reward those who stuck to the party line and congressman Schiff continues those acts of obstruction of Justice, whether they are criminal or not are deeply alarming in the president of the United States. And it's clear the special counsel Muller wanted the congress to consider the repercussions and the consequences. It is clear the special counsel believed that no one was above the law, and that includes the president of the United States.

I'm John Lawrence reporting eight passed from Washington on Capitol Hill acting attorney general Matthew Whitaker will voluntarily testified today before the House Judiciary committee. There was the possibility. He could be subpoenaed. Correspondent Linda Kenyon reports. William bar is speeding toward confirmation to be the nation's next attorney general. Days. The nomination will be favorably reported to the floor. It was a party line vote in the Senate Judiciary committee to give William bar positive recommendation and sent his nomination ahead to the full Senate Senator Lindsey Graham, the chairman of the committee praised the nominee. I believe of all the people President Trump could have chosen Mr. bar is at the top of the list. He's just really the kind of person. I think quite frankly, we needed the department of Justice right now William bar previously served as a Torney general during the George H W Bush administration. So he brings experience to the job. But it was an unsolicited memo. He wrote about the special counsels Russia probe and other issues that caused the committee's top democrat Dianne Feinstein to say, no, I believe the memo is disqualifying Senator Graham said he believed bar would allow the Muller probe to continue and that he would be as transparent as possible about its conclusions. I just trust that he will make sure that classified information is protected if there's a privacy concern, he'll protect that. But he will share as much as reasonably can. During his confirmation hearing bar said, he might write his own report about the molar probes conclusions rather than open up the Muller reported self to the public that wasn't good enough for democratic Senator dick Durbin, I believe the more inquiry. The investigation should be made available to the public and transparent. We should know at the end of the day. Whether there's findings and evidence that exonerates the president or reach a different conclusion. I think the American people are entitled to that. Senator Feinstein said it wasn't just bores views on the Muller probe that worried her. She said bar went too far in his memo on the issue of presidential power to assert that presidents have no limits on their power to insert themselves in law enforcement matters, even those involving their personal interests, and that can't be acceptable. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse said bars viewpoints on that issue would harm the democratic system of checks and balances I can't think of an assertion of executive privilege where or executive power where he's found any real limits. Many of these arguments are expected to be debated. When the full Senate takes up the bar nomination starting Monday. Linda Kenyon, Washington. It's eleven passed. "On Matthew Whitaker and non vegan buns. I will tell you that congressman Schiff said these were the two topics. He wanted to rant about. I genuinely couldn't decide. So twist and challenge put them together at a rant about both of them. I've got a roundabout met Whitaker and his non vegan buns. Okay. Well, first of all, I'm vegan any other begins here. Okay. There's one. Tired and hungry. I'm vegan vegan because Cory Booker is vegan. And I want to be Cory Booker. I hate it. When you go to a restaurant, and they have a vegan burger on the menu. And you ask the waiter is the bun vegan. And they say, no, what's the point. I mean, it's false advertising. You can't have a vegan burger with a non vegan bun. I mean, you're you're you go for the plant based, you know, good conscience middle, and you got the the bed guilty bun. So that pisses me off. Gentle anger. This is me filled with rain. And this is very happy. I'm the Al Gore of the congress. So don't put that in the world. Matt whitaker. I don't know where to start with my Whitaker. But but here's the thing. The acting AG and the nominated AG both refused to commit to following the advice of ethics lawyers. Is it too much to ask for the top law enforcement officer in the country? Follow the advice of ethics lawyers. I mean is it too much to ask of all the conservative lawyers in the whole country that what we can't find a single one that hasn't previously expressed their hostility to the Muller investigation. Is that really where we've come? We have so dumbed down the moral and other standards of this country during two years of Trump that apparently it is now okay to be attorney general with a bias against an ongoing case having gone on TV or gratuitously sent memos to the White House about what a terrible job while MOS doing and take the job and say the hell with the lawyers. "Jeff Toobin just by way of wrapping up the one, oh, one part of this before we get into more specific questions. Can you just give us a clear picture of Congress's power to subpoena? Witnesses why that's important and how it's used. Well, it is like a grand jury in the sense that they can force people to show up and testify on pain of contempt. Now. I it's a lot more cumbersome than the grand jury power. It takes votes of the committee to find people in contempt. But it is a way of forcing people to show up, and perhaps more importantly to force government and private actors to surrender documents records that are of interest to the committee. And and you know, I think people have focused a lot on the the the the question of subpoenaing, you know, people affiliated with the White House in many respects. I think the most interesting thing is going. To be the subpoenas to private actors. An congressman Schiff has talked about Deutsche Bank as someone as a company that they are interested in looking into their records and connection to the Trump administration. They are much more likely I think to turn over records in response to subpoenas, and that these private actors, I think may be the most fruitful ground for investigation. Plenty of great questions. We're going to get to in a moment. Let me get to one quick one before we pause congressman Doug emailed, how high on the priority list is Trump's violation of the emoluments clause. I think it is certainly high on the list, but probably for other committees and ours the government oversight reform committee alleged coming so you just played a quote from an and by the way, I think he's exactly right in terms of the judicious. Use of subpoenas will have the primary jurisdiction. I think along with potentially judiciary committee on the issue of emoluments. That is does the president make much. Money from foreign powers as this influencing policy now the Saudi purchase of hotel rooms at the Trump hotel. So I do think that will be a priority. Although it's likely to be a priority for some of the other committees will continue in just a moment with California congressman Adam Schiff, the incoming chair of the house intelligence committee and CNN's chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin also a staff writer at the New Yorker, I'm Joshua Johnson. "The president asserts that then you almost have to have impeachment proceedings as the check against a want an abusive that so right now, the Democrats I think are trying to figure out should we have impeachment proceedings or not I think there's a great reluctance on the part of people like Representative now who runs the judiciary committee. But if the president says on saying, I'm above the law, then he's inviting that impeachment inquiry, and you know, that will be fulsome inquiry is the president an unindicted co conspirator congressman Schiff as the idea that the president may be or may. As the real prospect of jail time. So they haven't used exactly that formulation. But you take what what the southern district. Prosecutors said last week what they said in court today and most notably what judge Pauley and sentencing Michael Cohen, did which he didn't take issue with any of this. He actually came out in a -firmative embrace this idea that individual number one. That's Donald Trump directed the commission of these felonies. So they haven't used those words, but those words don't matter the southern district of New York. Make no doubt about it is saying these felonies were ordered by Donald Trump, and they could have influenced you were discussing with Jeff Toobin the election. Okay. All appreciate it. "They're also sending us. In just on values to make sure that we take this opportunity to get Medicare for all for folks to make sure that we people have access to education that we are seeing students from the shackles of debt that we have investment in infrastructure that allows for us to move towards investing in twenty first century infrastructure things like expanding broadband, and and making sure that we have folks like myself who don't have blind spots when it comes to what humane immigration system, look like are in the forefront fighting fighting for that and reminding folks here in the United States, the ideals that this country was formed under to make sure that we are a country that is inclusive welcoming and one that to going t's. Justice for for all of its citizens. So over the weekend in last week. We learned a lot about the the vast web of crimes committed by Trump and his cronies over the weekend. House Judiciary committee ranking member Jerry Nadler, raise the prospect of impeachment Adam Schiff, congressman I'm Schiff said that the day Trump leaves office he could be arrested which was stark. Do you think that the house should start the impeachment process is that the right use of time and priorities? This this weekend was really an eye opening. I think for a lot of people, and I don't even think that most people comprehend how detrimental some some of the things that came too late were phasing. It will be important for us to to move as as fast as we can once we have all all of the facts on the ball. I do agree with congressman Schiff that it is going to be necessary for us to to be that that check and to provide the the balance as as members of congress to to to to this presidency, and to said ministration that that really isn't one that is serving the interests of the American people. So is is that TVD on anything? That's an okay answer. Lots learn. So I have said long before we even had the full details that an impeachment was quite possible for us because you could see where we were headed. And I think we are getting closer every single day to really believing that that process needs to start, and we need to make sure that we are holding the interest of the people and getting this this president who is corrupt in so many ways to to not be the the face and the leader of our nation. Yes. Speak about speaking of ways, we would like him to no longer be the face of our nation. I want to get back to your personal story from it abuse as a young girl, you listeners mine, I know that you and your family fled the. Himali civil war in spent I believe four years in a refugee camp in Kenya. Before arriving in the US in nineteen ninety five. What did that experience? Teach you about the way the US treats immigrants and refugees in how would you want to change US refugee policy? So, you know, when when we would coming to this country, and I think it's a little known fact, maybe it's it's something that really now everybody is paying attention to because I talk about it so much, but the United States when folks are going through the process of relocating here as refugees as part of that process..

"You know, it's interesting as I think about this. I've defended bribery cases. And when you try to give goodies to officials in America for their official conduct that is bribery that can be extortion. But here you have sort of analogy to that crime but happening abroad in Russia. It's an interesting thing that's been jumping out at me over the last day or two I wanna get into the politics of all this and let me start with you EJ, give me your reaction from a political perspective of what Rachel laid out on Friday night. And just the comments from congressman Schiff about to meet Pasco. I from the beginning an awful lot of people felt that if there was a link in all of this. It was going to be money that was going to be some linkage between Russia and Trump on money. And I think what was really important about the Cohen plea, and what Rachel put together is we now see a money next year. And I think that there's a sense that that we're going to have one heck of a December on this case because a whole lot of things are coming together. At once. I there is a direct link now between Trump and Russia on this building. And a lot of people wide about it, which is the second thing here. And which may be the legally one of the legally actionable issues here and third Democrats are about to take over the congress, and Adam Schiff has signaled that he's gonna make a lot of. Things public. He's going to turn investigative material over to mower. So I think that it is I think it would not surprise us. If Trump did some very dramatic things to put it gently, and I think that Moeller seems to be getting very very close to drawing really clear links now of between Donald Trump and Russia, you know, Maria today, so as each was just saying probably in for a tumultuous December. But next week promises to be super tumultuous on before December fourth which I believe is Tuesday. Prosecutors to file a sentencing memo related to Michael Flynn and then on December seventh a factual filing do on Pat Paul manafort's alleged crimes in lies which in both of these instances. We are going to get for the first time. I think the clear outlines of what the. Allies are what the crimes were and filling in a lot a lot of the holes in the story that maybe even Rachel was hasn't been able to figure out. All right. She has a day job, right? Serious. With really interesting is the Hebrew says the president has pursued. This this case, he's the way I keep thinking about is that he's hickory that has that's fun too close to the son, and that son is more. He Muller has been very sophisticated, and you could argue has really methodically laid out a case in ways that most folks hadn't even paid attention to if you look at the Manafort agreement, he basically said that the only Linus basically missing from his agreement compared to all the other witnesses all the other witnesses that they cannot have conversations with anybody else about the case that is missing from the Manafort case. And now, you're finding leakage that his that his lawyers have been speaking to the president's lawyers. It's almost as if mill Miller has set a trap, and they fall into it. And the president knows my concern, though, is to see what kind of this type of all Attila, the president with his back against the wall. What is he going to do? How is he going to deflect? What other issues is going to what other kind of chaos is going to create for the America. In people one of the things, for example, that we saw the more that we start hearing about the metaphor plea deal. The fact that he was lying. He mmediately. We started shifting to looking at the war. There was tear gas that happened on the border. He closed the border in my opinion. That was a big deflection. On the on the part of the president..

"And I have to say, I'm concerned that we learn from Microsoft about this attempted hack of these three campaigns. They undoubtedly would have informed the FBI or the department, homeland security. I would have thought that we would have been notified in congress about this, but none of that happened. It didn't go up through through the food chain. There wasn't the kind of. Of government response that there should be and that alarms me as we get closer to those midterms is that relate at all to leadership or lack thereof from the Trump administration unquestionably there are, I think very good people at the mid bureaucracy level who are trying their best at the department of homeland security, certainly throughout the intelligence community and at the top of the intelligence community. But there's no one at the very top saying that this is a priority of our administration. You need to work with each other. You need to talk with each other. I want periodic reports. Instead, we got the guy at the top saying, this is all a hoax in a witch hunt right, which now tonight feels very real as undercutting something that is actually relevant to how we choose. Well, the body that you're in the congress. We've gone several minutes congressman Schiff without discussing Rudy Giuliani. I would like to rectify that by showing the comments that he made that are both bazaar in how he did it, but relevant in the sense that he's the lawyer for the president talking about a potential meeting that might add culpability, take a look. Wasn't another meeting that has been leaked, but hasn't been public yet in kind of meeting an alleged meeting three days before. According to call it or quoting to the leak defends. It was a meeting with Donald junior with Jared Kushner, with Paul Manafort with gates, possibly to others in which they out of the presence of the president, discuss the meeting with the Russian. We checked with their lawyers. The ones we could check with with four of the six that meeting never ever took place. It didn't happen. Is this important anyway, and does your investigation look at whether there were such meetings that would suggest greater culpability about this potential collusion conspiracy? Well, we certainly tried to look into this, but all too often of the majority on our committee was uninterested in getting the answers. So when witnesses stonewalled us and refused to answer, the Republicans were unwilling to subpoena them or compel them. So we weren't allowed to follow the evidence where it was leading. But here you have Giuliani saying, okay, there was a pre meeting and then he quickly corrects himself an alleged pre meeting. He's all over the map, but I think you can look at the statements that he's been making along with the president's confirmation of the new defense strategy. Collusion is not a crime, and you can see that plainly. They feel there is evidence that the president knew in advance that this is what they're worried about. That evidence is going to come forward. The president knew in advance of the Trump Tower meeting. So. They're shifting to a okay, even if there was collusion, even at the president was involved in collusion. It's not a crime, but of course, the crime is conspiracy, so they're playing a word game. But nonetheless, I think this kind of throw everything you can at the wall strategy of really Giuliani doesn't really serve the presence interest very well. But it is telling the only other point I would make on this is that I think that they're clearly spooked by Michael Cohen and they're making the leaks, not Michael Cohen. It seems at least as far as concern and I have to imagine that they might have gotten this information if there had been a joint defence of some kind with Michael Cohen. And these other council that Michael Cohen has now opted out of because it seems to be they're very specific about this pretty meeting that there were six members or eight members, and they've talked to four of the six or six of the eight. They're using a great. Many particulars, and they clearly, I think, want to try to get this out there and minimize it before Michael Cohen does, but I just don't see that it's going to be all that effective defence strategy. Well, that's the weird part. Rudy Giuliani's insisting this dinner never took place, but everyone had sushi congressman Schiff. Thanks for being here. Thanks, Ari up ahead. I break down the central argument on Trump's idea that collusion's not a crime that's wrong. It is all explain in thirty seconds..

"Would ask a congressman schiff who's done such a wonderful job of trying to keep track will the republican side finally acknowledged how dangerous our situation is stop being an enabler of this danger support the muller investigation which is utterly professional and clearly finding some very very stark things are we going to get a hold of this or is this going to be a one man show of utterly unstable personality well i think sadly that you can't really count on the congress and what we saw over the last twenty four hours is yes there was some very strong statements from the usual suspects from john mccain and jeff flake and ben sasse a part from that though you had what passes for political courage these days you had republican saying this was a missed opportunity or kind of anodyne statements saying i believe our intelligence agencies that's not exactly political backborne and certainly not the caliber of courage that we need to see from republican members of congress at the end of the day a week could assert our institutional responsibility and stand up to this president but there's a little sign of that happening you do see some of the members paddle from one side of the canoe there questioning peter struck and attacking him like it's a benghazi hearing all over again and then the next day they paddle from the other side of the canoe and say will we support our nato alliance that's not gonna cut it with the president this dangerous congressman it's catchy k i wanna pick up on something that joe brennan was just talking about off you from what you know the way these things are conducted would you think that would be some record some recording of that to meeting from donald trump between donald trump and vladimir putin either from the russian side or even pat potentially from the american side i would certainly think that there would be a recording of this by the russian side now i don't know what the circumstances were the american side but from the russian point of view if the president was saying that kind of stuff in public you can imagine how much worse it would be in private and if they can have recorded conversation that that's more kompromat for the russians first and foremost they want to study it to see what insights chose into his character his personality any of the psychological issues that were just mentioned but they also might want it because they can throw it back in his face either publicly or privately should he deviate from russian interests so i would certainly expect the russians they have some kind of recording whether we do as well might depend on what this president was willing to allow all right thank you so much congressman adam schiff greatly appreciate you being here today and jeffey socks layout if you will your your concerns your greatest concerns about where trump presidency leads us as it as it pertains to america's alliances abroad and its national defense at home well i think the starting point is trump the man and his psychological state he is unstable he shows very keep signs of personality disorders many people that i speak with experts think that he's evidencing dementia and what is alarming about all of this is the extent to which our nation has become a one person game because as congressman shift just said congress doesn't do anything but in able the republican side should see right now this is not a partisan game this is putting our entire nation at risk the way that the republicans have been enabling this man we have a one person wrecking ball right now that is going to destroy global trade through his individual ignorance and wims we have a one person wrecking ball who is undermining every alliance and the public's abroad and i'm traveling relentlessly in in europe and asia are stunned they wanna have nothing to do with our country it's not just trump he is breaking alliances he is endangered our securities endangering our economy and he psychologically absolutely unfit for office and for god's sake it's time that the republicans in congress understand that by ebeling this they are putting the entire country at jeopardy we'll see if they provide more than tweets today and follow up on it.
