Because we don't know how long Kim Jong is going to live and awesome. I'm tired of different before we really move onto round three or whatever it is. I'm really tired of news. Agencies saying the young leader of North Korea. He's not that young anymore. How old he used to be the leader of North Korea? Not that young can't be. I don't see how how is I. Will he how? He does have a boyish face. He looks definitely does He. Looks like he's in his fifties but he's probably in the seventies. Oh my God he is the on so he's thirty six years old fuck out that. Yeah then I thought for reality six. But when he took over he took over in two thousand twelve so then he was the young leader. Being the leader of the state at twenty. Eight is impressive but just Trudeau is basically that age right. Plus Kim Jong UN's more of a puppet to other people so I feel like there's other people pulling strings most of the time more easily at the top for sure does actually forty eight. I was way off. Twenty four hours is Kate's GASCONS. Six days six days is his guests. The correct answer is in the winter. The correct answer is twenty eight days. So that's one four cons. Let me have a little thing. Cons and Kate so we have one for cons zero for Kate so far. That's the first one second one. The silverback gorilla the Silverman Rula how long the silverback gorilla live. Con- you go first on this one. I feel like they live a lot longer. I'm going to say forty. Four years is conscious Forty five Kate with a win on that one. The correct answer is thirty to forty years for those keeping score at home. It's actually not a horn that comes out of the NAR walls head. It's too too long to that. I know that I'm working on the next animal that we're going to feature is the Great White Shark. How long does a great white shark live? Well depends ours is black very black. Adults ice yeah. It's definitely definitely forty. One forty one years as cates guests cons. What do you got? I'll say? Anyway okay Comoro Dragon Fog I mean some turtles can live for like two hundred something years right point. I'm going to say you said a trick question though. It's not a trick question. It's tricky animal because not a lot of people know a lot about Komodo dragons. I know I don't want one near me. That's for sure. They're eating little bird eggs and stuff that they have. If you haven't seen that Google Komodo dragon fights you know. I'm GONNA fuck okay. I'm sorry I don't taking a long time. It's really hard one one hundred years. I didn't get the win when I said seventy two. And it was seventy if I was only off by two because she was under. Okay all right. Got It all right. All right. That's fair that's fair rules are there establishing beginning next one little bit different here and I think actually cons probably has the ability to get closer just off of school related things that he's done in his past next up. "But it's a continuous part of the show on CBS. Oh CBS centers. Thanks for joining US staying with us so continuing for the CBS Audience Winston particular end for the podcast listeners. Remember the main. Show that idea of populism. Max I just want Max rose. Our Special Guest Freshman Congressman Eleventh District of New York To some ears at might say when you hit listening to you say be on the side of the people who are getting ripped off in a system that works against him. It sounds a little bit like like Elizabeth Warren Bernie Sanders rhetoric. But you have policy differences with them so help my audience understand how you sound like a populous but maybe not go as far in the progressive rest of direction in terms of what. That's exactly the distinction that I'm trying to make is at the far left of the Democratic Party does not have a monopoly on populism when I talk about a hedge fund manager or private equity executive real estate magnate not paying a lower tax rate than cops firemen teachers nurses. That is a populist notion ocean that does not make me on the far left when I talk about a pharmaceutical company. Not being able to Jack up the price of a generic drug by thirty percent when I talk about the inability of the federal government to not negotiate a fair drug prices for people so now we got hard working. Americans have to choose between the price of drugs and putting food on the table. That is a populist notion when I talk about the fact that I would rather put billions of dollars into roads and bridges rather than then tax cuts for the wealthiest amongst us again that is populism but that is not socialism and I think that distinction is very important when I talk about banning all corporate pacts in this town not taking any money from from lobbyists or corporate pacts and trying to get this ridiculous money out of our system to include restricting the ability for Saudi Arabia to fund are Super Pacs. That is populism. That is not far left politics. How dangerous do you think it is for the Democratic Party to have a nominee who could be at least at some level described as a socialist? Do you think that is a fault line. Not a good idea not not a good idea and ultimately. I don't think that that is what will happen. But we'll we'll have to see how this shakes out so before we get to our three threshold questions which we ask every single guest and our audience loves the answer because this next question I think might shed some light on that masters in philosophy in public policy. So what did you learn about philosophy when you got your masters my my favorite philosopher. Someone who I really did the deep dive into his guy named Karl Popper so philosopher of science. Deeply focused on this idea of falsification that there's no such thing as an absolute truth in this world all there is is that which has yet to be falsified and so we we have to be deeply cognizant of the fact that there are limits to our knowledge limits to what any human being any organization can no we have to constantly backing up and questioning. What What it is that we are that we are are doing but called popper had this really interesting friendship? Proper was a liberal in every sense of the word but he had this very interesting friendship with Frederick Hayek to the point that they actually dedicated bookstore in another one day write. Write a book on this relationship. Between Karl Popper and Frederick Hayek for not know Frederick Hike. Known as this arch arch libertarian. But what they both really truly agreed on was the limits of human knowledge. Now Hayek said that we need a free market because no centrally planned organization could ever decide what the price of French toast his for instance and he was totally right about that. But we call popper did is he took Luke Frederick Hayek's ideas about knowledge and he said rather what we need to do is policies of incremental us that we need to go step by step by step and experiment in experiment always but but we're talking about public policy here always trying to advance the public good using the public sector but all the while understanding that there's there has to be deep humility to our efforts and we need to really double back constantly to try to falsify what is that we thought was true so three threshold questions are in no particular order and we may have gotten insight into one of the answers are the most influential book in Your Life Second your favorite movie or whatever your all time favorite movies long flight or long drive. What kind of music artist or genre you most likely to listen to? So you know I would actually say that. The emerging most influential who essential books in my in my life as Robert Caro's unbelievable set of series on Lyndon Johnson. You and I spoke poke before we started. Airing this on how you know. Politics is a profession as well and one that it takes years to learn learn and master and we denigrate profession. You know no one wants to come out to our career. Politician people are saying I'm a career doctor lawyer career army officer and what Lyndon Johnson was amidst all his failings with someone who sought to master this profession and Robert Caros deep dive into all that was LBJ. I just find inspiring and fascinating and before he did that he did a masterful study on Robert Moses. And if you WANNA know about New York read that biography absolutely that's why all Lavar Seaside real estate is taken over by dame highways. Thanks Robert Narrows Bridge was his last big infrastructure project opened in nineteen. Do you sixty four important to your district and they promised us that the tolls would end at one point we still await and what were the other two questions music so interesting movie. I'm definitely American. Gangster Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe my favorite movie of all time and music. I got to tell you about I. Love Konya's new album This whole this whole Jesus route that he's going on and I respect that new CD. Karl Popper American gangster. Connie that is it is ECLECTIC. "Major Garrett yes CBS. Yes I welcome Major Garrett from the nation's capital major fantastic it's the takeout with CBS news chief Washington correspondent later. That's nonsense major Gareth. You should know better. Welcome to the very best part of my broadcast week. I made your gear at host and creator of this amazing program known as the takeout where dear listeners and viewers on CBS. Yes and you know each and every week we are two things principally what are those. Two things relentlessly curious steadfastly non ideological. You know I told you last week. Dear audience that that you do the hardest work. You're the hardest working audience in show business. You know why because you have to ride along this somewhat bumpy non ideological journey. You've got to listen to people people that you might disagree with. Mike vehemently disagree with and also agree with very strongly. You've got to ride those waves. That's hard work and I appreciate you doing it very very much. I wanted to do so our guest this week representative. Max Rose Freshman Congressman. Staten Island South Brooklyn New York. Max Good Morning. That was some bad as entrance music. Man Good Yeah maybe we. Maybe we can get coffee. Yeah get some walk up music for you. It's good to have you with us. Let me tell you a little bit about Max rose like I said. He's a freshman I I. He's in Congress for his first term. We'll get to that and its dimensions in a minute but just a little bit of background. Fourth Fourth Generation New Yorker. If I read his biography correctly as paternal grandfather Jewish as he is left Odessa then part of Russia now part of Ukraine Ukraine rain will get back to that in a minute to Leifer America when he was fourteen years old. He's got a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University where he were as an intern for then mayor now. US US Senator Cory Booker. Master's degree in philosophy and public policy. London School of Economics enlisted. US Army Two thousand ten five years in the First Armored Division As a First Lieutenant Platoon leader at age twenty six wounded in an attack in Kandahar province among his combinations Ranger School Ranger Tab. Bronze Star are Purple Heart. Now a company commander in the New York Army National Guards Sixty Ninth Regiment. which I am told is the second oldest unit in the US? Army that a fair summary every couple of things great grandfather and no longer a company. Commander couldn't continue as a company commander once I became United States. It's Kinda God best job ever been at being a company commander. A huge huge huge honor tells a little bit about your service in Afghanistan and the injury You know first thing I would say about my time in Afghanistan was just how incredibly normal it was and beyond normal just not even noteworthy you know. I deployed deployed once for about ten months. I I have friends and I led soldiers in combat. who had at that time in twenty twelve two thousand thirteen deployed four times at this time? It's six and we don't often take a pause and think about what we have asked most of these post nine eleven warriors and we have never asked the soldiers in the history of the United States to deploy over and over over and over again. If you think about this right if you're a platoon sergeant right now or a first sergeant. You deployed six times and you've got a twelve year old thirteen year old kid you've spent spent more time at war. Then you have with your child in Afghanistan Iraq and God knows where else and it's also fascinating I think about the soldiers who I served served with these guys came from everywhere Black White Jewish Christian Hispanic Asian Gay straight four fifth generation first generation. This notion that there's a homogeneous military culture not true not true even in the slightest. These guys couldn't agree on a thing they. They couldn't agree on Coffee Red News. Blue gator country music hip hop music. Cool who they thought was good looking. who wasn't good? They couldn't agree on a thing. But all all that got put to the side once it came time for the mission Veterans Day just passed and we often thank soldiers for their service. uh-huh we point them to applebees for free dinner by the way Major. No free appetizers which is applebee's but we'll get back to that but but I can morning. FCC The but the deeper point is not just thanking these folks but wondering or questioning gene. How can we be more like them? Teachers firefighters cops. All of 'em how can we be live up to that standard and I don't see that standard being met in this town. In what way do you see it in the sense of feeling the fierce sense of urgency to make nick progress and to meet the expectations of the American people. But you asked about the incident versus not again not something something that I want to glorify but something fascinating happens to me after I hit the ID and that was it. A Two star. General comes up to me You know in Kandahar and he tells me five years ago I would have died right. He was right. The only reason I lived is because my vehicle had what was called a double vehicle push the explosion away from its core. The only reason I had that is because after years of sending soldiers to war without the equipment that they needed finally Congress got their act together in a bipartisan. Partisan manner in a quiet manner they allocated the necessary amount of money and quickly developed a double vehicle. So the only reason why I'm alive sitting right next to you early early this morning talking about my first year Congress is because Congress got something done so. It's something I take extremely seriously. It's not just me it was alive. It's people I was entrusted with leading and people. I love who are also alive. That's Voice of Max rose. He mentioned. It's very early in the morning. He's actually very correct about that. It's not even seven. Am here on a Tuesday morning. And I want everyone to understand because we're full of transparency on the show so we're gonNA talk a great deal about impeachment this Tuesday morning before three days of hearings brings here in Washington. So we're not going to know and this show is not going to be able to speak in detail at all to what is going to be testified to in public and whatever Dr Happens in the back and forth between Republican members Democratic members of the House Intelligence Committee conducting the public phase of this impeachment inquiry. But we're going to talk about it nevertheless so just understand because this show you'll be airing next week. We're not playing catch up. We're trying to do as much as we can. Because because this show lives in tight schedule Universe Max has things to do. Trust me on a week like this. I've got lots of things to do. So we're doing this as best. We can't can't so I just wanted to get your general sense. You were one of the last house. Democrats to vote or to ought to say you were in favor of the impeachment inquiry. And you've gotten some heat back in your district from a Super Pac. That's trying to make that a political liability for you explain to my audience your evolution on sure so and I I would also love to go into that Super Pac back and where it's money is potentially coming from which I think is also note worthy but immediately win this Ukraine scandal. Hit right out the door. I said that this is alarming. A potential national security issue something we have to get to the bottom of an all options. are on the table and information continue to come out and there was a sense Slight chance that this administration would cooperate in that in that effort and I thought that it would be important to give them a chance at doing that. Over the course of several days thereafter. It became clear that this administration was going to practice pure and unadulterated unadulterated obstruction and deflections and lying in the process. And it was at that point that I did make the decision to support this impeachment inquiry because there are some very important questions that we have to get to the bottom of and their questions because this is a trust building exercise and a fact-finding effort principle so question for me is. Why did the president when he had the opportunity to discuss anything with the Ukrainian leadership? Why did he discuss the Biden family family and if this was related to his election what this is tantamount of if this is all true that they used military funding as a leverage points? It's tantamount to the president United States asking the Soviet premier to lead the Watergate. Break in efforts and let's also not forget. The Biden family is not a normal family. This is the most powerful Joe Biden's amongst the most powerful people in America and this is a president potentially targeting one of the most powerful people in the country. Think about what he could do to you or I hi or anyone else so that sounds to you like obstruction and abuse of power. No the this is principally to me principally anti corruption issue. That's that's the voice of Max. Rose he is our special guest with the dubliner like I said. It's very early in the morning. There's not even any waitstaff hovering yet but we'll get there..

And again, this could have just been product of the footage that he put together with the exception of that one interview. And again, I might have just missed it. Because I don't know. I I don't notice the rank on marines as well. But with the exception of that one interview with the captain, it seemed like there was not a lot of leadership NCO's or officers in a lot of the scenes that were shown just a lot of people yelling back and forth. And I understand, you know, combat. There's going to be a lot of people yelling. But there were very few scenes where I saw one person giving direction. Does you got us to notice that it's really rare to do that the Marine Corps because it's fire team controlled like that's just the basic of Marine Corps, like squatter tune is that it's very fire control by the fire team leader like that you have. But I'm even saying that it's so. Yeah. No. No, no. But even that I it seemed again this could have just been a product of what they showed. It. It seemed like you know, if there's four guys in a fire team, it seemed like all four were like shouting what to do versus one individual one marine. I think that it's definitely whenever we are on the ground. And you're in the middle of a firefight. It's essentially basketball court rules, like we're constantly shouting out. What you individually? See? No. Yeah. Right. What you see? And you're communicating what I'm saying? Is it seemed like there was a lack of direction being given. And it seemed just like a lot of chaos, and again that could have been a product of where they were going also war. That's it's chaos, and you're just going to hear a lot of yelling..

"You can maybe make an educated guess, but it really is very. Very difficult to fight this site like suppressive fire to make them stop. Yeah. Actually pinpoint precision, the I guess I don't I not trying to cut it off. I don't want to ramble for too long about it. I think it's one of those things you've got to go watch for yourself. Combat up scare, but I think the one of the things I was thinking one thing that stood out to me. We've talked about was the humor another thing. I think I can be very judgmental of the veteran community very quickly and roll my eyes at the super Moto people sometimes or whatever I think sometimes because I don't watch footage like that. I try to stay away from footage like that. And you watch that kind of thing, and you remember that these were again eighteen nineteen twenty twenty one that seeing what they went through. And the the guy who took the shrapnel to his head saying I was scared. The man who can't say merry Christmas to his family at the end because he's just so overcome with emotion. Being still they're like these things are so deep seated, and so many men and women to have experienced it. But but mostly honestly, infantryman and met on the front line. And I think it's easy to forget that even I who have been I've forgotten that I think sometimes you have to be careful after we get out and we've all been out for a little while the not romanticize. Yeah. Like the service completely because there is. I mean, it's devastating. And there is a, you know, part of our country that I don't know. I guess romance is the is the right word because you know, the veteran community by civilians is put up on this pedestal. Thank you so much for your service and the sacrifices that you made. So you know, you almost walk around with your, you know, your shoulders back, and you're you're proud of it. And like you said you kind of forget that you're very real. No, you're not thinking you're thinking about whenever you come home. You're thinking about the ward ceremonies you're thinking about the better times. I think about the times that you're covered in blood and moon dust. In your nut stink to.

"Yeah. What I like the war that I thought, and that's what it was closest to this one. I think is exactly that. I mean. Yeah. Every single thing that happened from the cringe parts to the violent parts to the whole air. Hilarious parts that is the Marine Corps mean this same. Then who are slowing down saying slowdown cease-fire higher up this that pull him down do this calmly. She's meaning there's like there's essentially Dame near cyclic rate of fire like where you have machine guns on the other side that are going off or least long guns that are going off. And there's a lance-corporal who's probably no older than twenty three screaming commands at other marines who are either his equal or possibly even higher rank of slow down your rate of fire to return because when you're out you only have a certain amount in your vest and your person that you're carrying. So the have the presence of mind. When you're that scared to say slow down, we're gonna fucking run out of ammo. And to me, I guess what I'm getting at is the juxtaposition of he showing the same marines that are doing that. These these eighteen nineteen twenty year olds that are managing combat the chaos of it all are also in the next scene pretending to fuck a water bottle. You know what I mean? Like that's to me shows over the reality. You have a moment of insane bravery where they're taking I think Levy, Lance corporal Levy, he's shot in the head. He's bleeding out. And he gets taken off the roof his bandages fall off his head. They're doing that. They take them out. They finally get him on the Hilo. It's so intense. But yet they all keep their cool. They continue doing what they have to do. And then in the very next scene. There's it's Christmas. They're singing Jingle Bells, and they're sending messages home to their families and their compartmentalization lot of taking care of their like, these people aren't medics. It wasn't the Corbin. That was doing it did a fine where the guy got shot, whether Lance corporal was shot Howley was shot where went in his body where the bullet was still located to have the wherewithal to do all that so young such a high stress environment because while he's calling in and giving the advice to the helicopters that are coming in. He's doing all that still while under fire like, I don't people. I know we have a lot of civilian listeners to I don't think people really understand the stress level that comes with that in that with that stress level. There has to be some sort of way that marines cope with it or soldiers, airmen, sailors cope with it on the ground, and that is usually with dark twisted since of humor and that. Yeah. Through a lot. I don't think I expected to laugh as much as I did botching. Are you surprised by that? Because did you laugh during your deployment the hardest? People I've ever met and the right moments sometimes after the darkest moments because very so sickly darkly funny because they had to be just like we talked about leadership on the last show where I said there what I would make a male marine, whereas sports broad now, there's certain parts now where I'm so far removed from the Marine Corps where I was like you like whenever he made a joke about marrying the ten year old Afghan girl..

"We've seen about this documentary to one that it's shows the liar. Sign of war too much to that the the marines doing all the drugs and shit like that that happens in Afghanistan people thought that that put the Marine Corps in a bad light. And then three the callousness that happens with war and violence and for the Harper that you actually see because we've talked we talked about it several times during the documentary, we explained it to Brent there's been a long standing tradition amongst marines. We don't show wounded marines are dead marines or anything like that documentary. I think that was to me that was the most shocking part because we haven't done that really. We haven't because the Marine Corps doesn't want you to. And so what corporal Jacob miles that goes did and his his partner, Justin Loya, fellow marine cameraman and all this. They said our job was to shoot an edit videos for the US Marine Corps. We've filmed what they wanted which is what the stuff we normally see hearts and minds. Here's what we're doing. And then he says, and then we kept shooting so he and his combat cameraman, buddy. They kept the scenes that gave them Marine Corps while they were doing their job the parts that they wanted and then showed the public relations and little parts of that. And you can see parts that were shown on the actual news. But then they kind of it was almost like a side project had for themselves. You can see in the film that he knows he's going to keep this and do something with this afterwards. He has that. So people are saying there is some sort of agenda with that. I think this film is important because you can see I think in the beginning when he sits down to do. These quick interviews at first lot of the marines are looking at him. Like, should I say what I'm supposed to say? Or or am I allowed to say what I want to say sports community where you have like quarterback speak when When paid. paid men and goes up to the studio like and he goes up to the podium. He knows exactly what he's supposed to say. The film. We're going to do all these things we know as marines. What we're supposed to say like can dancer like whenever the various specific example of that is whenever the sniper whenever they asked their sergeant sniper like what's the purpose of sniper? And he gives them the very canned answer that he is probably written down in scream that we've been reciting since bootcamp camp is the same thing. It's like whenever you're in boot camp, they ask you what's the purpose of Marinko rafts about per record around the locate close the in about five stops them and says, hey, can you say that in your own words said actually stops them? And it's like come on be normal. And we used to do that as leaders to like whenever you have a board question like what is the continuum of force? And then you could spout it out. Tell me what it actually means. And I think that this this film showed that if you're asking any of one of those marines, what's your actual objective here that film shows? Them in a light where there's not a whole lot of inject objective except for to essentially survive. Right. I think to there's a couple of things that really stood out to me, and this I don't I've tended to avoid that call it war porn, and this and that, but like all the movies and all the documentaries. There have been other stuff out about Afghanistan since then I've always avoided it. I don't quite know why. But I feel like this the lighting the moon dust, the rocks. The stone the buildings the marines in the tents dancing like every little bit of it took me right back to what it felt like very on that very accurate portrayal. And I think that these guys did an amazing job of capturing that real side of it that the marine court didn't necessarily want to get out. But you know, we've had these we've had these talks before like if you were going to point somebody in the direction of what is the Marine Corps military like I've. Always generation kill matches most of what like my war..

"You don't have. No, you don't really like normal emotions, your body chemistries all off, and you just gotta get back. You know? And your family's thinking what the fuck, you know, we we're not connecting at all. But that that is one hundred percent emotion. A hundred percent I and I was really blessed to have the opportunity make back to finish out the deployment. But what was the reaction when you walk back into the platoon room? When they first saw you. There were definitely a lot of hugs. Yeah. They gave me about thirty minutes off before they started busting my balls. All right about thirty minutes. But you know, man, like that the bond that you get after deployment is just I mean, there's nothing compares to it. Nothing. You all have experienced it. I mean, I it's do anything for these guys. And then obviously, you take those lessons, and as you briefly mentioned, you know, use the the lessons you learned I on the campaign trail, and then how do those lessons translate now? Serving the first thing that's interesting is that you you look at a campaign, and I it's similar to a deployment. Obviously. I mean, I don't wanna take the analogy too far. But you look at all these I was thirty one years old during the campaign thirty to thirty one. And I was the oldest one on the campaign is similar to a platoon. And and they're all there for the money. They're not there for the glory. But they're they're they're getting that sense of mission. We have a thing for putting signs and lawn, sir. It's just into right? And then you see the team emerging you see that this incredible commodity that comes out of shared suffering and shared sacrifice and just stupid shit. I mean, he's got totally idiots. And and, but then what's interesting also is that you see after the campaigns over that same transition. You know, the, obviously, you know, again, I don't wanna take this analogy too, far, though, those fucking Republicans are going to clip up everything I say, but but the the. The point is that you see their body chemistry starts to change. They start to miss the campaign. Yeah. Just like we all have missed the deployment at moments in our lives because you miss being part of something. Right. And so funny, too when you're gone through it, you didn't think ever that at any point afterwards. You'd be missing that. Oh, no, man. Not not at all. But then suddenly you really do. I mean, Sebastian younger does some great stuff on this in his book tribe talking about, you know, just feeling that you're a part of something? And now that I'm down in DC blessed to be a one of four hundred thirty five independent contractors themselves. United States congressman, I is this sense that it's actually a culturally broken institution, right where nobody ever in the lease in recent memory has had and I miss being in congress because I got to feel a part of something bigger than myself. Yeah. No one has ever fucking said fuck, I miss being a congressman because he's just. That deep solidarity with my fellow members that we will just. Patch higher ribbon cigs out there talking about this. Such just a few smokers left to is for Dan one. I'll never running for congress. Now that ruins it for you. Yeah. That's it. When you're in there because we saw your tweet of you swearing in the at believe, it was ten different members who are going into the service. It was yesterday. Yeah. Right. So whenever you're doing something like that. I always think that would be like a record scratch moment. You know, like where you flash back to where like a good memory for you like you might be wondering how I got into this position. There's gotta be things for you. As a pretty new congressman that you're like, I can't believe this is my life. I it's it's a yesterday..

"That would always no matter what when you show up to your tune you go through I went through officer candidate school. But you go through West Point as you did or any of these others. You're you're going to be a leader in the show up in your meet your platoon. Sorry. And you realize what the real deal is. Wait, I don't know. They got all this book knowledge. That's great but house I can help especially look this was not too long ago for me. I I was a PL and like two thousand ten two thousand eleven maybe even a little two thousand twelve at that point. We had been at war for a decade. I had skies in my platoon who had deployed four five times when you think about what we asked of them as a nation and also the incredible combat experience that they're bringing to the table, and you're told to lead them, right? Fascinating that incredibly daunting. And you certainly there's this conception that you in the military. You get to say that's an order. You try tell a platoon SARS five deployments deep. That's an order when your piece of shit butter bar doesn't word. All right. I did not work. We've talked a lot about like combat injuries and things like that. But I don't think I've ever asked anybody that question because I know that you were injured and received the purple heart in Afghanistan whenever that happens as a leader what's going through your mind because I know that you're worried about yourself care, but you're also still in command. So what goes through your mind whenever so what's fascinating. I mean, look when we hit that ID, and thankfully, due to the armor underneath our vehicle. Everyone was significantly banged up. But it wasn't a situation where there was like immediate loss of appendages or things like that. But it was clear that I was kind of out of commission at that point. And what you see those the benefit of training. I ceased to be the platoon leader, you know, and that platoon sergeant snap right out stepped right up, man. And that's really what a platoon sorry, man, tastes control under any type of nine line medevac situation. And he did it, and they I was just in retrospect, so incredibly proud of this unbelievable group of human beings. And there's that unbelievable group of human beings in every single tune United States military, no matter what their mission is. But they just got the job done, and and got us out of there and spent a about ten days or so at calf can't Ken to hire force base and the whole time as will come as no surprise to you all do the number knee or do just get back to your guys. I remember. My wife is going to hear this. And I'm talking about my ex girlfriend. She's. I remember. How many times has had sex? So that did a rough estimate. Number's going to say that my numbers are gonna say the same for a while. So. But, you know, remember, I Skype in my my girlfriend at the time I making contact with my folks, and like you're such a goon at that moment life..

"So I think the laws first and foremost because these groups like the veteran candidates project isn't going after the. VA? They're going after lawmakers because I think the VA's hands are sort of tied in. Elsewhere, right. My point there never. I am going to entertain the discussion because they can't and these damn berries are smoking that spice at the barracks, man. Sheesh. I mean, do you guys have any other ideas as to why you think with the VA? No, I mean, I hope that it's people like what I mean, the congressmen that we've had on the show and military backgrounds who know that this is this you that they've talked to. I'm sure that if you're a congressman serving and you've served in the military, you have plenty of people in your circle that have used we'd to help you and what's so fucking. I mean, it's league on so many states. Now, just do it, man. Like when the writings on the wall, just fucking color the laws. It's the. His marijuana legal in. Now, do we know now, but it is it's a good amount mounting. But it's just it's happening. Very slowly. So it's frustrating. I believe we will get there. And so then the will follow suit and right there. It's just to take time. I think that's one issue that if Trump came out and was like, hey, I'm for medical marijuana. Be legal countrywide. Twitter would it would like play. I hate him. But I don't know what to say. Really good decision. Yeah. Are we are? We are we. Which great point crepe point. Very interesting. So that's that story. This interview that we're about to do right now. I'm not gonna introduce it K. Takeaway. Today. We have a special guest who serves in the house of representatives. And was formerly a company commander in New York. National guards sixty ninth infantry, regiment. He's also got a masters from the London School of economics, humble brag. And during his time on active duty in the army. He earned a ranger tab received his combat infantryman. I guess so triggered when I walk in. I'm a former company gonna restarting two marines. So when I come from freight from when I come and San Antonio, I need to get like eight marines, right? Damn now to clean this place up. I tell them all the time. Like, I can't believe it's like this in the summertime when we have one hundred fifty interns running around. They're just sitting around not cleaning up shit. And I'm just like dude somebody somewhere grab them up. Please. I what I want to know those that do like college, interns, right? Democrats visit the WH to talk shutdown. Pelosi wasn’t invited.
"And Republicans mitt at the White House to try to resolve shutdown. USA's Timberg has more Wednesday at the White House. President Trump met with the problem solvers caucus to discuss border security, and the partial government shutdown that one of the men who was at that meeting part of that problem solvers caucus is democratic congressman max rose, he joins Fox News and says, look we need to solve this Democrats and Republicans. "That she suggests we work together to determine another suitable date. That's how she wrote the letter sounds like she's asking. But isn't she just telling him that this is off until the government's open? The speaker is the one who invites the president speaking of the joint session, and she said as long as government shutdown. We're not going to be doing business as usual and the state of the union is off the state of the union is off. Yeah. I don't get it back. I guess you got to be invited to get all those congress people and all that kinda stuff in the same room. And so if she's removed the invite then there's no state of the union. In other words, it's. He can crash you bring a big bag of big Macs. I'll get there. Hold on a second. Here is congressman max rose brand new congressman out of New York. He was looking forward to the state of the union, but he says, it makes no sense of the government shutdown. Look security is obviously of paramount importance to me. That's that's why I'm here to protect and defend the American people and also upheld our values in the process, we'll sort out I have the utmost faith in the secret service. But we also gonna have a state of the union address during a shutdown. Let me get this straight. The state of the union is that we are not open for business. Okay. Let's open this government back up. And then I am more than happy to attend. My first state of the union address. I'd be incredibly excited to do. So this is this is absurd though, we got to open this government backed up. It's not a point. I mean, if you have the state of the union address, I think by them by January twenty ninth everybody will know the state of the union. Closed. And of course, the news came out few hours ago that there has been another ISIS attack. But apparently, it was not that was news to vice President Mike Pence who just a couple of hours after that attack an explosion which reportedly killed five Americans believe vice president Pence says ISIS has been defeated. We're now actually.
