"congressman green" Discussed on The Michael Berry Show

"Trusted journalist imagine that chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner Fox, news contributor, and all around very wise and thoughtful cerebral man. He has a new book out called Obsession inside. The. Washington establishment's never ending war on trump. Wow. How very timely couple of days after the debate. It's still continuing isn't it Let me give you the quick version but what the book is about go back to December Twenty Nineteen Democrats in the house were rushing they were racing to. The president by Christmas can reporter asked Nancy Pelosi what's the hurry here? Why are you rushing this? and. She said there is no rush. This has been going on two and a half years smaller and a lot of Republicans. took. Note of that they wow finally she has admitted she has set this impeachment we're going through. This is not about Ukraine. It's not about a phone call. This is a continuation of the long efforts to remove the president from office, and that's what the book is about and that effort continues to say. Byron you've always struck me as a guy who doesn't want to be perceived as indefinitely are not a hack Kinda guy that wants to be right down the middle but it strikes me that if you're gonNA call balls and strikes and they're all wild pitches, you gotTa Call Him Wild Pitches in strikes me that it's almost sucked you into making positions that maybe you would really like to make you just want to be a guy that said, this is what happened and yet when everything's Gone Awry and you call it that way. I would imagine that's not easy for you to do. You have to I mean your conclusion in the end you tell the whole story. and. You show basically that you know the the first vote people don't know this first vote the house on impeachment within December. Twenty seventeen, the president's first year in office and a congressman. Algorithm who was a Democrat is probably the most. Persistent advocate of impeachment. An annual. Congressman Green actually got a bill on the on the floor Republicans are in charge of they took a bill to vote. Fifty eight Democrats voted for it. Now, this was to impeach the president. over being disrespectful to Colin Kaepernick in the NFL. Okay. So you had close to Sixty Democrats who were ready to remove the president for office towards that, and then bringing out another vote taking next year there were close to seventy Democrats who were ready to do that by the time twenty, nineteen famer out. And even after the before at Muller reported, kind of collapsed were ninety five Democrats who already the number, one, hundred, Fourteen Democrats, and that's all for Ukraine. So the point here is. They wanted to remove the president from office they used to was available. At the time to try to do it. So whatever the controversy of the day was, it wasn't really about the specifics of the controversies day it was about removing the president from office any way they could. I al Byron. York is our guest I remember Al Green specifically remember Al Green saying we have to impeach him or he might get reelected and I think that tells you everything doesn't it? We can. We can all thank Congressman Green for that he's. Never was secret about what he was doing He wanted to remove the president from office the very beginning. And when he said, we have to impeach him. I'm afraid of we don't impeach him. He'll get reelected he just said, well, it's clear to everybody which is. Which is that in late Twenty Nineteen Democrats were impeaching the president to reduce his chances of being reelected. There's just no doubt that the idea was not that they could succeed in the Senate not that the Senate would vote two thirds of them with convict the president but that but that this would basically paint the president going into his reelection year there was never any doubt about that. So representative Greens who who Favorite impeaching the president for a lot of reasons. The NFL thinks he said about country certain. Countries. Same asshole countries remark he's writer piece of president for all sorts of things. So when Ukraine happened, of course, he was right or compassion for that too and there were a lot of Democrats agreement which brings me to a question related to the book obsession inside the Washington Establishment's never ending war on trump. Do you think it's trump individually and his quirks and Pecadillos that drives him nuts or assigned some percentage of what what obsesses them most? Is it him as a person and that he defies them or is it simply that they are out of power? So their friends can't get contracts and they can't decide WHO's the Chairman You were a great question and I think the answer there's a mixture of that. But the the the big question about trump. The opposition to trump is what accounts for the incredible intensity. That, we've seen I mean somebody could go back to the Clinton impeachment and say that was pretty intense and go back to the the war over George W Bush, and the war in Iraq, and that was pretty intense too. But what accounts for this intensity here and I think it's their different reasons I think that Among many Democrats obviously, they expected to win in two thousand sixteen, but it was more than. after Barack Obama won. In two thousand, eight with a with a new coalition of minorities, women, and young people. They basically thought we were going to win the presidency from now on because you had that coalition and you add to it each year with the increasing percentage of the population of Hispanic voters, and then Bang we're GonNa win the presidency forever and ever and so that came to. Kind of an ugly end with the election of Donald. Company. They were incredible shock but incredibly angry. So I think that that accounts for some of it is a matter of fact. In the book. I recount. What happened. On January sixth twenty, seventeen trump this the president elect he hasn't become president yet. But that's the day that The congress meets to certify the results the Electoral College. Of course, it's a done deal by that time. It's all over. This is just a ceremony to certify the results of the College and Republicans were done when Democrats tried to stocked the they they protested. The certification of the results of several states on the grounds that Russia had elected trump to the presidency and Republicans had no idea that the intensity of the anger on the democratic side and they they look at each other and said, wow, just this little worse than we thought. So. I think that that's a lot of the. Reason for the intensity of anti-trump feeling in there. You know there's a very small but vocal group of never trump Republicans I think that they were in park angry over the loss of clout and access absolutely income the kind of things that you have Byron. York. Office. We're talking to Byron York about his new book. Let's just come out obsession inside.

He will say the Democrats had an overwhelming majority in the house and they didn't take up impeachment. He will say that we had a constitutional duty to do it. If it was there, and we didn't he will say that he has been vindicated. But here's why why why are you talking for the United States? You realize what a full satellite? You realize what a full you will sound that you were pushing for impeachment the day. He was elected. You're wrong on collusion. Your on obstruction. And and and and and then points, my klaly pop. Yeah. I had no other alternative except to use our sergeant at arms and to bring him in. He is being utterly contemptuous of congress. He has lied to the congress Charlie Crist asked him about the attitudes or the feelings of the people and Muller. Are you talking about just having him sit for a hearing or or locking him up somehow? You have to have him sit for hearing. And I think you have to have him locked up unless he agrees to participate and come to the hearing. Can you imagine? If we didn't have a constitution at a rule of law. These clowns would being charged. Why isn't this man expelled from the United States house of representatives? Why isn't anybody talking about his mental condition? He's obviously nut. I'm quite serious. He's a nut. Cohen is a nut. What's his name? Steve cohen. Yes. We here's what we're going to do. We're going to have a sit front hearing going to have to lock them up. We got all kinds of ideas. Yeah. We'll get them to speak. We'll to talk. Where where worst comes to worst, waterboarding? Well, what about well? We'll show them. How it's done over here in the House Judiciary committee. I feel so bad for Bill bar. He must be saying. What the hell did I get myself into here? I'm I'm gonna Torney general and found the rules, and they're gonna hold me in contempt for not violating the law. Whole contempt for not violating the law. We should prosecute the president the United States for not violating the law. And then they tell us impeachment. That's not criminal that would political. They go back and forth. They got their prosecutor buddies an idea. What's that? Let's do this list of former federal prosecutors who say well, we would have charged. We would've charged Trump. Oh, good for you. And what's the point of that just onto mine? Attorney general, of course, former federal prosecutors all walk on water. Don't you know? Because this is all politicized now. Media lab at you heard that Anderson Cooper, wait a minute. "He's the best witness. You got. Next up with the permission of the chairman. I get to ask Mr. Cohen about perspective on the president's business dealings. Let me get this straight. The witness lied to multiple financial institutions to get loans to pay off other loans just to keep himself afloat, and he's going to be the expert on business practices. Obviously, Mr Chairman, the witness may produce documents that he suggests incriminates the president yet. He lies to banks. All of those lives were done on fraudulent documents documents that he forged nothing. He says or produces has any credibility. Apparently, he even lied about delivering his own child, which is wife had to correct the record. Ladies and gentlemen, how on earth is this witness credible? With all the lies and deception the self-serving fraud begs the question, what is the majority party doing here? No one can see this guy's credible. He will say whatever he wants to accomplish his own personal goals. He's a fake witness in his presence. Here is a travesty. I hope the American people see through this. I know the people back in Tennessee will. And with that statement, sir. I have a few questions the witness. With your loss of your license. And I think you mentioned in your opening statement that you had been disbarred, what is your source of income in the future? I don't expect them going to have a source of income when I'm in federal penitentiary. What? Is there a book deal come in or anything like that? I have no book deal right now in the process. I have been contacted by many, including television movie. If you wanna tell me who you would like to play you. I'm more than happy to name down. I'm sure they will turn around and just to correct your statement on me. No, let me ask one other question though. I only have a limited amount of no one quick one quick question who paid your expenses to be here today. Who's paid my expensive be here today? I paid my expenses. Mr Chairman, I'd like to yield remaining in my time to the the ranking member Michiko, and how many times you talked to the special counsel's office. Seven. I'm anne. Did they talk to you at all in preparation for today's hearing between the seven times you talked to him prior to your sentencing. Have you had any conversations with the special counsel's office between sentencing and today? Understand your question. You talked him seven times that's in the sentencing memorandum that were in front of the court back in December. What I'm asking is how how many times you've talked to special counsel's office since then. Up to today's appearance here in congress, gentlemen, time has expired. You may answer the question now that I'm sorry. I don't have the answer to that. All right. That is Michael Cohen testifying. Just a scathing scathing statement from congressman green. Well, you don't want to find him. You'd rather sit there just like you praise. Bill Clinton how great he lies. You are praising Ralph northern how great he hides. It's just. You think this stuff you think this stuff would wake the American the American people? But here and see this and say, this is absolute Kaka. But is that ever the reaction we hear about it? Here's here's salmon San Diego as we head back to the phones at open line Friday. Hi Sam how you. I'm doing well rush. Thank you. Sorry. I had a thought here, you know, reading about the green new deal and our Keith Acadia Cortez. And I was thinking the number one way to fight socialism is we have to raise the cost of borrowing, and what's causing the problem, in my opinion. And I love your reaction to it. Cheap money, and he regretted is driving a lot of these kind of no consequence promises. Where it's going to get paid for some time in the future. But it doesn't really taking account the cost of borrowing. And I think while that might cause a shock to the system. It could be good in kind of reminding people that everything has a car. So I'm interested in your thoughts. Well, you are of course, correct sensible and very reasonable. And in suggesting that there's a consequence for action. There's a consequence for borrowing too much money. The consequence for borrowing money that you can't pay back, but unfortunately, your reasonableness and your sensibilities here are irrelevant to hear them talk. They're not even talking about borrowing money. Sam. They're talking about a taxing it from all the rich people. This woman even thinks that Goldman Sachs is Trump's number one campaign donor. They donate it to Hillary. And then the next thing you're talking about his printing money if there isn't enough. They're not going to borrow anything is going to print it whenever they need. They're going to happen. In the WBZ news center. I'm Chad Bauer. North Carolina taxpayers.

"Everybody getting something done. You're talking about the issues. I guess I'm talking more about attitude because there are problems there and people have known about possible deals possible solutions for a long time. But it never gets done. Why not I think what we as a class the freshmen class brings particularly the congresswoman. And I is a life of service in the country. You know, she's prior military on prior military, and we want solutions, and we're just sick and tired of it not happening and our constituents cintas here to get it done. So we're we're rolling up our sleeves and going to get it done. Well, I want to pick up whatnot. Because congressman green was obsessional operations flight surgeon in Iraq part of the capture of Saddam Hussein you serve for years in the CIA, then for President Bush, forty three and Obama Republican democrat. What's the one thing that you think you can take from your service and national security, and maybe help you here in Washington. I mean for me it's mission. Right. You have a mission. And when you're serving in the military you wake up every day, you know, what you're doing. And why you're doing it? And I think it's no different in congress. Some people have treated it as if they don't have a mission that they're for themselves their show horses. Whatever I think making sure that people remember that they were elected to get something done and pass legislation is the most important thing. There are a lot of very well intentioned people in that building behind me. And somehow it doesn't get done. Let's take the shut down the wall. The president says has to be a wall or some version of a wall. You hear Nancy Pelosi say wall is immoral. How do you compromise from that kind of rhetoric? I think we find some common ground with what is border security, and we get it done. I mean, that's really what we have to do. And you know, the president has looked this and has said this is what we need to do. And you know, I'm supporting him in this in this effort. I just think it literally life is about negotiation. There's no one who lives their lives just saying I'm going to unilaterally. Side. What happens so negotiate getting a room kick out the cameras and get something done where are you both on Gunnell Trump cussin'? Peo- congresswoman's locking are the Democrats politically in the house to anti Trump. I think the tenor and tell him that the president has set is just unbecoming of the country that I love and for me that's critically important. I don't like policy by Twitter. But to me just because you're providing a check and balance on and the president doesn't mean you don't have responsibility to legislate and get something affirmative done. If we're only anti-trump we're not doing our job on the other hand congressman use that during the campaign. You can't imagine an issue where you would differ with Donald Trump so far every action. He's taken it's been spectacular from cutting taxes that created massive growth, at least in our state and Tennessee to one of the biggest pay raises for our veterans are soldiers in ten plus years. I think the actions that he's taken or spectacular. And I can't see an area where I would disagree with them at this point. What about the tone? I think maybe in some cases, there are better ways to say things. But again, I one hundred percent support the actions that have been taken over the next two years, and I'll start with you congresswoman how confident are you that you're going to be able to change Washington instead of Washington changing yet? I think the nice thing is we have over one hundred new members in a body of four hundred and thirty five people any organization with that many new people the culture changes. So I'm not saying it's going to be easy. And I've seen it already. That sucking sound of people trying to get you to be very political. You know, salute the party instead of the country. You gotta be strong enough to push back, and that happens when you have people that you can link arms with and say, no, we're not going to do it that way. And I think we have that came from a dirt road in a small rural town..
