Alcohol in Early America

"Despite the very strict religious beliefs of early american settlers their religious beliefs didn't include abstaining from alcohol. Far from it they saw alcohol as natural and a gift from god. Jesus both consumed wine as well as made it at the winning qena so long as you consumed in moderation. They had no problem with alcohol. The rationale for drinking alcohol was that water wasn't considered safe. This belief wasn't totally wrong. Prior to development of modern water purification methods the simplest and easy way to kill microbes in water was with alcohol. Straight water was almost never consumed. One stories told a better. Talion immigrant named philip massey. Who caused a stir at large dinner. Party in philadelphia where he asked for a glass of water. He recounted quote. I perceived some confusion among the servants and the water did not arrive the host next to whom i sat whispered in year asking with a smile if i could not drink something else because the unexpected request for a glass of water upset the entire household and they did not know what they were about unquote. When the first. English settlers arrived in america. Getting the ale that they were used to consuming was difficult. The ingredients to make ale didn't grow that well in new england and importing from england was really expensive. This led to the consumption of different types of alcohol and those tastes drove a large part of the colonial american economy. The biggest rank in colonial america by far was rum by the time of the american revolution. Colonist were drinking three point seven gallons of rum per person per year rum is made from molasses. Which comes from sugarcane. Rome was first made in barbados and then imported to the american colonies. However the demand for rome was such that the first round distillery was established in boston in sixteen fifty seven. Eventually every town of note in the colonies had their own. Distillery

How to Get Your California Stimulus Check

"Taxes can be complicated and filing taxes for 2020 might be even more tricky because many people have changed jobs or worked for multiple employers. But it's more important than ever to fire taxes correctly now because both the state and federal government used tax filings to determine who is eligible to receive pandemic relief payments. Additionally, some counties have local relief funds available with additional requirements. Joining me to Wade through the confusion is KQED reporter Carlos Cammarata, normally Carlos. There are lots of different types of financial assistance out there. How do I know I'm getting all the help? I'm eligible for the first two rounds of stainless checks the federal government sent out were based on 2019 income, However, the third round of eighties based on 2020 income, every taxpayer who turned up to $75,000 qualifies. That's why it's so important to file your taxes soon as you can. If your income went down or you got married or had Children, 2020. New rules offer patient access to electronic health records

"A new federal rule takes effect today giving patients more access to their medical records for free many health records are already available electronically but it can be a hassle to get them. The new rule also changes. What kinds of information. Patients can request marketplace's. Kimberly adams has more. The rule makes it illegal for healthcare providers to engage in what's called information blocking with fines of up to a million dollars if they make it too hard for patients to get their records. Liz saw me as a senior strategist for the group open notes which advocates for transparency in medical records. She says if it weren't for the pandemic this concept of full transparency to everything on the record the notes the labs halogen boards would be the biggest story in healthcare. As of today patients should start being to access all of that information and share it with healthcare providers schools and workplaces even third party smartphone apps. Dr rachel stirrup is the health lead at the future of privacy forum and says once you get your records you the patient have control over where your health information goes then. It pretty much becomes a wild west because not all those apps or schools or even companies face the same privacy rules as traditional medical providers. Also right now. Many of those providers aren't ready to roll out all the changes. Dr jesse aaron failed is with the american medical association. There's a lot of confusion the legal requirements or complex and interfaces with Third parties data use agreements. Not the kind of stuff. They normally cover in med school

BBC Four Goes Archive Only

"Bbc four will no longer produce new shows and will become an archive for the broadcast. sounds to me a bit lightly as they're essentially evolving from the tv version of radio. Four to the tv version of radio four extra. Do you think people notice the difference. Yeah i think they will notice the difference in one of the things that i'm interested in investigating which i can't see any whereas if they're going to still be taking material from european and scandinavian channels which is something i really liked about Bbc full. You could get some really interesting drama on that. And that's what i went. The i think the idea of an allcock channel is interesting in could be quite sensible. And if they're going to fix other stories is again bring rap bbc three so it's not going to be necessary necessarily old bowl bad news Things have got to change in four if they're building bbc to has always had this confusion with bbc too. So i don't think it's necessarily awful being counters ruining a fabulous national treasure. I think it could be quite a sensible evolution. Your the question politically because there's always a political dimension to these decisions. These days is whether a channel of repeats is a good use of the license fee or the digital spectrum. And whether that's something they can justify it might be. They might be able to say yes. This is the best value for money on lots of people. The bbc bbc to become charles repeats as well. So i'm not sure. This is a particularly innovative move. I actually think it's a bad one. I think it would have been ashamed to just got rid of bbc as i. You speculating on bond. If they can make have a popular appeal demi just repeating things like only fools and horses and things like that but they have so many dramas. I have so many documentaries. But at the same time there was a lot of confusion after all cases at taking up in the us and other parts of the world. I'm still nervous about that. Return to normal when they get full. This is Their new thing love lawsuits is the corporate way to punch somebody in the mouth. And you're not gonna win against a company like nike. They wanted too long and it was crazy. If you're going to do something like this at least get something out of it. Because i didn't even know the name of the company said it just now. Yeah i knew. I knew about nike. Confusion surrounds Volkswagen’s reported name change

"Was a press release from volkswagen today. That came out mistakenly because the press release was actually labeled for april twenty ninth. I wish it had been labeled for april first but this press release said that volkswagen will be changing the name of its us operations to volkswagen of america. Vlt s volkswagen according to cnbc quote. The release said volkswagen of america would remain an operating unit of volkswagen group of america and a subsidiary of volkswagen g with headquarters in herndon virginia. And so thankfully. I don't think this means they're actually changing the brand or how they would refer to the brand in america on branding. Cnbc just says that they would have a lighter coloured vw logo for electric vehicles versus darker colored vw logo for gas powered vehicles. Hopefully vw is just having fun with their company name as an entity. Which at the end of the day would be inconsequential. The case i'm fine with it go had vw. Get your attention. Great move if they're actually changing their brand name in the us volkswagen. And i'll have a different. The week definitely didn't seem intentional. But i don't know maybe. They were putting that out there to gauge the reaction. I guess we'll find out the full story and a month

U.S. health officials raise 'concern' about data from AstraZeneca's vaccine trial

"Yesterday We heard good news about the U. S trial of the AstraZeneca vaccine. But today, US vaccine officials pushed back and question the data, which has yet to be released. It adds to this vaccines messy rollout in Europe, several countries halted vaccinations to investigate a very small handful of possible rare side effects. But public health researchers are cautioning against putting too much focus on all this confusion. No. Another time. This kind of thing has happened right where we have New information, even if it turns out to be a false alarm. That's Gillian Still Fisher, director of the global polling unit at Harvard School of Public Health, she says there's a broader lesson to be learned from what is happening with AstraZeneca. The main global and European monitoring agencies reviewed the global safety data found no proven lengths and concluded that the benefits far outweigh the risks. We should be glad that we have an alarm system. Right, so it's that we're actually doing due diligence. We're actually making sure that the public health side right that these vaccines don't just kind of go out and we don't know what what's happened Some we follow. It will make sure that there is effective in the community as they were in the trial. The AstraZeneca vaccine is one of the main shots being used in the global pandemic response. It is not yet approved in the United States. Dr. Paul off it with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, says he and others will be assessing all the data to ensure any vaccine is safe and effective. Dr off. It is on the Independent review Committee for covert 19 vaccines in the US, We want to make sure that these studies were done carefully and well before would ever approve the vaccine for use in Americans. Julian. Still, Fisher says This should build even more assurance in vaccines so long as people understand the process and know that their concerns are being addressed. We have an opportunity to build trust in the infrastructure. The Globe currently has an arsenal of several vaccines against covered 19. So far, nearly half a billion doses have been administered

Canadas vaccine rollout is slow, and very confusing. Here are some answers.

"Jordan heath rawlings. This is the big story. Sabina version miller is a clinical pharmacologist. She spends a lot of time bunking vaccine misinformation and she is the co founder of the forum miller foundation. Hello sabina also having me here again. Of course i think We're at the point where we probably need regular vaccine updates just to clear up the confusion that i Really quickly listed off in the intro. And maybe if i had to ask you Somebody who spends a ton of time talking to regular canadians. How this vaccine rollout is being perceived on the ground. What would you say. I think most people are extremely frustrated. The rollout has been abysmal so far in ontario at least i think that even across the other provinces accurate. I've heard similar concerns similar your frustrations from people from canadians all over canada. So i don't think it's going very well here. What are the biggest complaints that you hear. Maybe aside because we're gonna get into the amount of time it's taking and that kind of stuff aside from the actual length of time. What are the complaints that you hear. Yeah so i think first of all it's been You know with respect to the online or delivering. -tario was supposed to have have set up a long time ago. I mean keep in mind that we should have been up our vaccines in january which means that our online orville should have been actually ready to go in january And the in you know here we are when we opened it up to eighty nine terrier only or and every you know public health unit had to scramble to set their own hotel up on hospitals. We're taking the charge setting their own online systems in place as well whereas really we should have been ready to go in january when we were initially expecting our accents to ran up even such as you know right now is basically interior two parallel extremes. On how you can get jackson nation. Either its pharmacy with specific vaccine or through the provincial rollout and it's very confusing because our different criteria for each And on top of that you know. I can go. Vaccine sites that are being picked by. The interior of government have been inaccessible yet. His lack of parking for a lot of different sites. I'm getting a lot of things from elderly citizens who are talking about how these sites are not accessible and on top of that. We're asking the standout in the line in the bitter cold And these are Keep in mind. Frail elderly canadians who are obviously mobility challenged or quite a few of them as well in your accident. Wait in life or for several hours to get their vaccine on top of that. It seems like You know we're we're sort of cats playing the cats game. I mean this past weekend. For instance are back to nation members. Were abysmal it. Meanwhile we have over two hundred and fifty thousand vaccine doses sitting in freezers. And we know we're only going to be getting more and more this week. So what exactly are waiting for it. It's it's really has been very confusing People are frustrated. They don't know where to go when they're just waiting to get more clarity. What about in terms of the big picture you know you described ontario there which is For sure the province that has had the most challenges of as far but in terms of like overall supply percentage of all canadians getting vaccinated. It's ramping up on a national scale you know. Do we get too tied down to the daily numbers like we did. Fifty eight thousand ontario yesterday and today we only did thirty Are we roughly on track or are we falling behind as a country. So i mean. I think i would let the data on the numbers speak for themselves here but candidate tracks ninety in the world on vaccinations. So we're really far behind And if you look at our canadian overall numbers only six percent had received one does and you know. I think it was one point five percent that had received both those just fire you know and so i think in terms of the numbers that were supposed to be forget Numbers for just looking at the percentages of canadians that should be vaccinated by q. One we we have far behind what we had originated a hope to develop sonate and i think that you know we obviously had challenges with respect to have axiom supply But at the same time we have been getting more vaccines the last few weeks. Iran has not notched are dosages data. That we have right now.

"So it will do anything to throw us into confusion and keep us in our limited thinking. Okay so this is one of the ways. The subconscious mind confuses. You and you don't have to do it that way. Okay so you have to stay open to the solutions and you have to focus on what you want. Okay so i gave him. I was like okay. So what does he want. He wants to sell the second. But you can. You can map this out for yourself. He wants to fill his program by such and such time with this many people in it but he doesn't want to do it by quote unquote burning out his list. Now instead of arguing with him about whether it would infect burnout has list. I want him to have a few chiller wins under his belt. Let's do this relationship based selling. That solution was always here. He just wasn't seeing it because he was in confusion. Hope that makes sense. Okay the last one is to go into figure it out mode. This seems pretty straightforward. Okay for most people and yet you probably have also had the experience of being in confusion in not feeling like you had it all figured out okay and sometimes people go into helplessness. If that's you you just wanna make a note of that and recognize that. That's because you're stuck in the line not because you're wrong or bad okay. Not because you're you should be in judgment of yourself. It's just that your stock in a lie. Okay and you need. You may need to work with someone. Who has the experience doing what you want to do. And ask them for their health. That's part of why it's faster to work with a mentor than to do it alone. Okay that says you can't give a personal responsibility here. The last person personal responsibility is excuse me at play always so even if you're working with with a mentor you need to start going into figure it out mode okay if this is challenging for you if you don't know how to do this certainly asking better questions is one of the key ways that you can help yourself figure something out so instead of staying in though. Why isn't this working or this is so bad. Isn't this so bad. Kind of line of questioning can say. How can i blink. How can i solve this. How can i get to what i want. Okay that's you have to know what you want. How can i get what i want. Okay and how if the want is. How can i hire both team members when i'm currently Can only afford one. Okay the lie is that you can only currently afford one. Because the money's here it's here now so what would you need to do to create that money. How can i create money for two team members. Okay that's asking a better question. And then it's giving a directive to your subconscious and then your subconscious starts hunting for the answer. Okay now this requires that.

"So if you're in confusion you are only looking at half of thing. Your awareness is not yet big enough. It's being blocked. You are being blocked from seeing the answer because of that blind spot because of that. Line in this episode of the unstoppable woman. Podcast we are going to do a deep dive into what confusion means so confusion. Is this experience that we as humans enter into every so often probably more often than we'd like to admit given that you're a high performer. And you're going forward and you're really executing on on your goals. There are times that you go into confusion and it's important to know what to do with that information what to do when you go into confusion what it means and how to navigate it so i we have to look at what confusion is where you're saying things like i don't know what to do. I don't know what i want. I don't know what's stopping me. I don't know how to make this decision. I don't know what to do in this situation. I don't know x. y. and z. Not in a okay. Just the facts. That's data. I don't know the marketing tool that. I need to solve this problem right now. That's a very neutral of asking that question. The way i'm asking this that that indicates confusion is one. It's a panic and helplessness. So it can be a varying varying degrees of panic maybe slight maybe intense. And then also this idea of helpless. I don't know how to do this. I'm i'm helpless in this situation. That's that's what you need to be looking for in the confusion. Okay there's also confusion that comes when you feel like you don't have choice that there is not a good option for you which would fall under the heading if you will have not knowing what to do or not knowing what you want and there. This is a great moment to make them big point of this episode right at the very beginning that when there's confusion there's a lie you know i want to write that down. You're gonna wanna like post it. Note that someplace you're gonna want to remember when there's confusion there's a lie. That's that's the the concept that's going to set you free now. There are some steps that you have to take after that. But you have to remember that. Initially initially.

"In on you like stuff you know. Yeah yeah. I just. I feel like i don't know i feel like i'm circle talking a little about. I just think all this to say like you. You have to share with people when you're sad like you have to otherwise it life is so lonely and that just creates so much room for different altercations. Because you're going to be more sensitive. You're going to be needing people but they don't know you know what i mean is just creates confusion so i think you definitely need to give yourself freedom to more and you have every single right to mourn and i think your friends and family needs to be aware that you're struggling and i think if you haven't already i would reach out and just say like i think there's there's not really like it's just words really when people pass like i know when i lost my grandpa struggled with the things people would say to me like them telling me like well. "Kind of confusion right and this one of the it was interesting. You're saying that like in every wave. There's a teaching a practice heart of the agenda that has proven over it like at the time everyone adopted them years later they look back and say that was really harmful. We're gonna try and do that. The damage has already been done. And you're going through this now with what you mentioned giving the gender area and generous his picture and the idea of sexuality. Feminism is really interesting because In some of the studies that talk about like they were again. They're literally coming up with walked on a philosophical level on completely global. Why does equal it. What is it quality for. the sexes. Mean so some said that would it means is that there's no superiority in sexual between men and women. I was one of the that career and some in You know like panicked but was that in every You know they're still superiority. In terms of that album's variances sexual superiority. Because a a father woman who has a father still has to answer to the authority of a father. Okay and so. Somehow that i mean think about that. Not only motherhood but fatherhood itself now she because she has to obey a male figure in her life than Then that's not then she doesn't have full equality she still doesn't have full sexual equality so in that grand. What they actually said was the only way to have full sexual equality between the male and the female is take get. I mean. forgive me because this is vulgar but to get rid of the taboo of incest because they felt that it is only through the actual act the sexual act that the genders feel sexually. This is absurd right like like people sitting in a room trying to come up with sexually based whatever who else is sitting in the room with them obviously like right. There's this time with these people up sauna into this. Is this there. In terms of when we talk about the genealogy of different movements and thoughts that exist different 'isms different ideologies. We have to look at what was said in their conferences. What was being discussed today. For example bill talk about intersectional. Feminism and how you a feminism that represents only different identities and there are religious women. There are christian In some ways to appropriation of women's rights of other religions already Provide an offer into an movement. Virtually is not concerned with them. You know so We're talking about like cultural appropriate right to me. The idea of most feminism were Islamic feminism in the form of appropriate. Why religion gives all i need. I don't need your feminism label. Be added to my given already happy. Happy like a log in you need a law. I want to share that with world. The world understood. He has given me. And i'm in no need of another movement to somehow. Give me a level of authority or give me a level of Acceptance i don't need your seal of approval rate That if i believe in my religion i do not need your movements seal of approval. Your movement needs mine. Your movement needs to look at what we're doing not the other way around billion also. I think it can't be card of. We can't understate. The fact that some of the feminist ideologies will believes can literally lead to disbelief right so even for example. This whole idea that as they've remains should be completely detached from men right because that's basically what it is know when we say that. I mean when when feminists flying the idea of the male being responsible for the female having that kind of whole of being a protect when they find that programmatic. Where is that gonna end right. 'cause profits lament right.

"What greater blessing is there in this world and this every time we think about the truth it is refreshing and joyful. There is nothing. That's his more blessed or more comforting than the gospel of the water and the spirit when we think about the salvation of mankind and the grace of god. There really isn't anything that we humans can do. Both all that we can do is just give funk's glory to god all that we human beings to is just enjoy the blessed grace that god has given us by believing in the gospel of the water and the spirits. The salvation given by god is so blessed so wonderful so great on so majestic so there is nothing else that we can do but only thank god by believing in this truth. Give glory to him. I'm praise him for this. Truth can never be denied or challenged the more time that goes by since i was salvation the more we realized. Just how precious this god-given gospel as the more. We preach the gospel. The more we experienced firsthand. Chill style wonderful and precious this salvation. Is we concept. Believe that there is no greater blessing from god than this. The fact that people are freed from confusion void and darkness has been made possible through the shining gospel of salvation. That god has given us the emptiness of the hull that could never be filled with the things of the world. Where it not for the lights of salvation. We could never escape from our sins. How could sinners whose thoughts are completely confused. Ever untangled the not of their tangled sins. How could the fall mankind ever around by itself. It's simply impossible. How could human beings who were born sin is from the very moment they were born on this earth ever be born again by themselves as the righteous this task is humanly impossible only by believing in the true light of salvation that the lord has given us is this made possible when human beings are fundamentally insatiable. How could they find satisfaction through their own efforts. where could sinners attain satisfaction would wealth. Satisfy them no amounts of wealth can bring satisfaction. Would you really be happy if you were rich. Would your empty house be filled with all that money. I never had been a rich man. But even if i were it would not fill my empty heart. No money can fill a heart. dot is completely void. There can be no satisfaction. How can we fill. Our hearts with satisfaction is impossible. With what can we be filled. What can fellows.

"Had you had you identify those hide you falling for the traps but still the truth in a way that's going to be effective at trial in. It's not gonna get you trapped by your own words. I mean there's so much that goes on their simmer psychology in being a witness that. I feel for anybody who has to testify. That doesn't have somebody with a site psychology background to help them through that scenario and give them the skill set and tools to manage it because they i mean lawyers are good at the law but they're typically not people people. If that makes sense my focus is that human being. What does that person dealing with. What what are the stressors in. How is this lawsuit affecting them in. And what's just beneath the surface that if you don't deal with that before they testify it comes out anger or maybe fear fire flakes. Confusion can look like somebody being deceitful to. If if they're coming out you and you're just like yes a no i. If you don't understand you may seem like your tap dancing or lying but you genuinely could be flabbergasted by question like what exactly are you asking me right and then you pause and you take a few seconds to try to figure out the answer than now the pauses deemed as lying behavior. Because you're making up a story or something like that. So that so when we when i worked with a witness in fact i'm going to be working with somebody tomorrow We were doing it online. Now which is odd. It's not as it's it can be done but it just so important to kind of be there with the person he's he's get so much more being in the room with that person but so we spent a lot of time talking about what what really trying to uncover what what is it. That's troubling that person about the lawsuit that could cause them to struggle to tell the truth in an effective way. Resolve that stuff. We teach them how to communicate in the context of adversarial setting which is different than any other setting. They've ever been actually the rules. All the rules that they're used to of language are flipped upside down to like for instance lawyer asks them a question. They respond with their answer. And it's truthful answer while it doesn't help the lawyer whose whose deposing that person said. The lawyer uses a cue. That would normally mean. There was something wrong with an answer like they. They might respond with frustration. Or anger or sarcasm so witness thinks no. I've screwed up. I better fix this. Or i better panel better rethink what i said or maybe change my answer because this lawyer seems frustrated. But that's a game that the lawyers playing but the witness doesn't get it the witness things. That's genuine confusion or genuine frustration or genuine or he sarcastic because the witness screwed up. So it's there's a lot of teaching..

"Because we've been ignoring it for so long that it's like please listen seriously please please please. Once we go inside and just start listening to it. It has a lot to say. And a couple of things i would love to. Just tell your audience about the subconscious is One thing that i love is that it does hold these blocks. You know everything that. I've been talking about the the core beliefs that caused us to self sabotage the unprocessed emotions or emotional wounds that just kind of create inertia and confusion and our emotions and our thoughts it those do exist in the subconscious but the other part of the subconscious that most people don't talk about is that it holds an incredibly deep wisdom and this massively profound healing potential. That's just innate. And organic to our bodies and to our minds to our hearts and souls that all rests in the subconscious too so as you start going into the blocks and the discomfort in your life what you start. Uncovering is all of this brilliant and all of this wisdom and the vast healing potential that's It blows my mind every single time. I work with the client. How much wisdom is there. So i always love to tell people that about the subconscious because we don't talk about that very often and the route to that wisdom is just directly through the discomfort or those repeating patterns or those out of control emotions And the sub conscious. I mean most people call it the subconscious mind but it doesn't just exist in our brains and in our nervous systems. It exists in our cellular memory. And in the knowing of our bodies so it's really a very somatic and and visceral sort of thing when we start listening to our subconscious. I almost always just start people by feeling the discomfort in their bodies. We run from her pain and we run from our confusion and we try to hide you know our vulnerability and and that kind of stuff but really the route to healing is going straight into it But when you go into it especially in a supported way you know like like my clients are always very supported but When you go into it that's where the resolution can come and then you go straight through it to that. Brilliant deep inner wisdom. That's within everyone without exception so it's amazing. It really is when you think about all of these systems that are at work within us kind of hardwired right throughout every single part of us and how in some cases.

You didn't have any fucking community aspects for these people. You were just charging a hundred or sixty. Two hundred plus in our for an imprisoned training session which i want to say is a hundred percent. Fine i don't wanna start that start this off by saying that is one hundred percent fine. That is what gyms charge. But i'm a little confused on. How the same coaches who charge a hundred dollars an hour for just training look down on other people who charge two hundred and fifty dollars a month when they offer ten times. The amount of fucking value as an imprisoned coach does now of it. Now i'm jumping in. This is why this is why because those same people that are charging one hundred dollars. An hour at the gym are stuck working for an employer and the employer has packages at this person has to sell and so this person's only making a percentage of that income which automatically makes our and then they see this is what people are getting pissed right. Oftentimes in certain communities parents like this person who wrote us this mom who wrote us. They don't have any other option other than public education. And i do think that that not always the case but oftentimes. There's just not. There's just not the resources from christian schools from community groups and so on and this is a call for christian innovation. We often tell christians. Here's four questions you can ask in order what you can do. What's good that you can champion and promote what's evil that you can stop and fight. What's broken that you can restore and then finally what's missing that you can innovate and contribute this. Sort of innovation is what's been driving christian education in christian education. I think in many ways is highly innovative right now. There's all kinds of different options and alternatives available. But they're still not enough. This is actually a call to local churches and local christian schools to figure out how to do something here on this. And so an and i just i couldn't i couldn't challenge it myself but deep down inside i knew that i was that i struggled internally with relationships with being a mom i struggled with social anxiety In i just didn't know why i didn't understand why i just According to the bible. I thought that this world is not where i belong. I belong in heaven. And i don't know if you've seen that sticker not of this world so it's a christian Kind of bumper sticker. Saying if i did see it. I would misinterpreted as as mba. A ufo enthusiast. But you're answering just gave me a lot to think about. And and a lot to kind of ponder and add to my confusion so but at the time you you decided that you wanted to push to a Psychotherapy not for yourself but as a student of it you were still in this Christianity and his mindset of That teco therapy is of this world and not not a good thing That to me is again compounding. My confusion about something at you inside was was was questioning that even if he weren't outwardly questioning that at that point my correcting in that assertion. Yeah i can see how that would be Confusing to you. Because i went into this field of study kicking and screaming. I didn't do it for myself. i didn't do it because i wanted to really i Did it because my house. Then who. I was very dependent upon And was working. As an attorney was he decided that he couldn't continue on working as an attorney that instead we were going to go to Back to school and we would both become therapists and then we'd be able to You know make enough money the two of us rather than all the pressure on him as an attorney because the pressure is of being an attorney was too much for him and He couldn't do it anymore and was very the dad. There's a whole boatload of Of issues to talk about with you. Aren't there Well first of all. I think you know we talk about bad idea. And i don't wanna dwell on that but the idea that people's purpose in life and discovery of who they really are what they wanna do with. Their leads can change at anytime. It'd be open to that. 'cause i we've talked to people from all walks of life here and people grow up or mature with an idea of what they should do with their life and at some point in their lives later they discovered that that wasn't it. I mean my more my passions and interests of my childhood. The drove me to get where i am. Were no longer valid at this point in my life. So that's a whole other thing but it's interesting that it's a huge jump from Attorney to to psychotherapy in my They're just not compatible in any way as far as The vocational training for it or or the aptitude for it or any of that stuff. So it's just a an interesting story now i wanna talk about. 'cause i had written a song along. "Make sure you read it something. I noticed with this event and the blog that promoted it is that while we're talking about one event the secrets of the jungle event in the blog post. There's like four separate things with four separate dates going on that absolutely one hundred percent caused a lot of confusion within the community and it seems like this is a trend going forward with the way in style. These blogs are being put together. I don't know if it's for the better but let's talk about this so to start The event was monday. The fourteenth we had the release of a limited time special research. Now look at the way they call it limited time special research. This is different then time to research. Now we've had time to research before that means you have to complete this before saturday at seven pm. This is not timed research. It's limited time special research. So what the fuck does that mean. We don't know but we know that it's available. Starting on the fourteenth one of the main features of this event was that meow off balloons would be returning for a limited time. now they also didn't give us an end date for the balloons. Which definitely added to confusion as the dave. You right when you looking. At the event in the today view the event is listed as ending on the seventeenth. The fourteen th through the seventeenth but the special research which requires you to defeat for me off balloons end date so a lot of people were thinking that they had to defeat the forum me off balloons before the event ended even though the special research would carry on so that was confusing to confuse you even more. There was the explorer. Wait wait wait you release. I'm so confused. I know god are you being so you got an explorer happy to so all right explorer. Happy was released cutest little event wrapped around it that runs the fourteenth through the twenty first. So now you've got limited time special research starting on the fourteenth you've got this actual secrets to the jungle event running the fourteenth through seventeenth. You got this explorer piquiachu event thing. The fourteen th through the twenty first and then yet. Another date was itemized in the blog. Where me off. Balloons would be appearing more frequently. And that's friday december twenty fifth christmas so if all that wasn't enough to confuse stress out trainers we also have the fact that the meow balloon is stupid rare and i mean like more rare than it's been when it's come through an any other time now many trainers myself included have yet to see even a single meow..

"That there are no sex differences in terms of dating and relationships when it comes to men and women And i just think more broadly it's really harmful for society because we don't understand each other properly and it it's really impeding our ability to have a proper understanding of really anything. I mean when science is now being denied and being denigrated and in these crazy ideas are instead being lifted up as though they are the truth. It's not going to be good for our society and some i would say liberal ideas or leftist ideas are being challenged. I would say by transgender ideology. You said that you grew up in the gay community in that something that you're supportive of but the logic of transgenders kind of challenges that a little bit because if say okay trans men are men that something that we hear a lot and that it doesn't matter whether it's whether someone has transitioned or not it's really just something that you can declare that you identify as and that's as far as the definition of male really goes in so if you're if you're a homosexual man who is attracted to men you are thin supposed to be according to transgender ideology and again this. Does it represent everyone in the transgender community. But what we're told from the activists is that you have to also be attracted to transgender men who are actually biological females in so there's a lot of confusion and a lot of dissonance when it comes to different forms of sexuality they don't seem to be congruent with with these transgender mantras. That trans men are men and trans. Women are women. It's very confusing especially for just the average observer. Don't you think absolutely it right in the book about how this leftist in fighting is is probably pretty funny for people the outside to wash. Because it's like everyone is eating eating. Their food is definitely i would. I would say it's a little funny but it's also a little sad. I know you and i are on totally different. Sides of the aisle ideologically politically religiously. And that's why. I'm so excited to to have you on. But yes from our perspective in particularly from a christian perspective. I'm like yeah. this is what happens. Things are confusing. When you don't have any kind of you know what. I believe. I know you disagree with this any kind of moral foundation for what is right and what is wrong. And what is good is what is and what is bad. Yeah get really confusing when you don't have any kind of transcended source of truth that tells you what is and what isn't it's it's up for grabs anyone can say what is and what is it. I mean what is reality. What is absolute truth. What is morality and so yes from my perspective it does seem like everyone's just real confused and i'm just glad that i have to participate in it. Well i have to say. I appreciate you having me on knowing that we have those differences and that we're willing to read my book knowing that there are probably a number of things that you disagree with them in the book as well but i. I think that's the way you know. I i also try to go out side of my comfort zone and seek information and resources that i may not agree with just to understand the other side. So yeah definitely with say like sexual orientation if you have. We see how this is playing out in the lesbian community. And i'm a straight woman. But from what i've seen you'll have because what used to be considered Sexual orientation is supposed to be based on sex but now it's being a defined as gender so someone who identifies as a woman should be viewed as a woman. I have no issue referring to trans women as women but also with the acknowledgement that there are some differences and i have a chapter in the book..

What can i recover from this. That's base space so that that that leads to a bigger question a thing about You know if if the part of the way that we kind of go through this pandemic is that we will. "Dr Brian Goldman Welcome to cope black art the show about medicine from all sides of the Gurney. During the first wave of covid nineteen when we were in lockdown, the rules on infection control may have been painful, but they were fairly straightforward. But along the line things changed in the summer cases of the coronavirus went down and lockdown was eased. Now in much of candidate cases arising fast while in some parts of the country, things aren't so bad. So the rules on how to keep saved from covid nineteen artis consistent. And for a lot of Canadians, the message is getting increasingly muddled. In almost sounds like the prime minister is cancelling Thanksgiving but even if we can't gather this long weekend, we still have a chance to turn things around for Christmas candidates. Chief medical health officer has the more optimistic take gathering in. Those will be safest if they only include household members then there is this confusing advice from Ontario's premier when it comes. To having everyone over aunts and uncles, hanging off the hugging kissing and later that same news conference you play it back I. said stick within your household, the impact of confused conflicting messages like these is the loss of trust in the experts that leads to a lack of cooperation that is essential to putting a lid on cove nineteen and keeping Canadian. Safe. On this. Thanksgiving. Holiday weekend, we're doing a deep dive into Canada's pandemic of perplexity on covert nineteen. To help us cut through the confusion we have two. Leading experts. In infectious diseases. I provide how I'm a professor of global health at the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Toronto and I direct the center for Global. Health. Research. At Saint Michael's hospital. My name is caroline. I'm. Pediatric Infectious Diseases and medical microbiologist at the Shoe Jason in Montreal I'm also a professor in the Department of Microbiology Infectious Diseases and immunology and the Canada. Research. Chair in infection prevention and control jaw practices in Ontario and Dr. Caroline. Quash. Practices. Quebec. Those two provinces are dealing with the largest outbreaks of covid nineteen in Canada. They also happen to be the places where Canadian seem the most confused. About what to do? Dr Caroline Quash Dr Product jaw welcome to Icu Black Ark hi Dr Quash. What's your sense of how confused people are about? Covid nineteen public health guidelines. I think that as things are moving forward, it's becoming more and more confusing because. It's actually getting harder and harder to really understand why we're asking for certain measures and how it differs from province to province and sometimes even from one. School to the next. So there is a lot of variation on the same theme mind you but they're still variation, and so there's a lot of interpretation about the guidelines that are put out. Can you give me some examples of what you think people are struggling to understand? I think what is hard for people to understand is that this virus is being transmitted through a symptomatic people. You know it's something that is so intangible that people do not think about it's. The. That because it is their friends, their family members, they cannot be infected through them or buy them and thus. Are Not taking any additional measures that they would take if they were working in a hospital for example, where they would be wearing their mask and be a lot more cautious. But then you go back to your daily life and it's just you know not as important and what has happened over time is that the messaging from public health has changed because of those evolving knowledge is and we started off by saying that masks were not necessary. Now, we are seeing a mask is and everything changed within a matter of weeks. It's not as if it took years for this information to change and I think in that sense, it's. If you, you might miss a beat and just not realize what has changed in between and I don't know that we are that good at explaining it from the beginning to the end. To explain that the evolving story. You think that there's confusion out there about masks at this point there seems to be confusion that means I don't know if in Ontario and you're seeing it there is manifestations against masks people saying that they're not necessary that it's just not a measure that works because there's obviously a difference between being confused about masks and not being confused, but just refusing to use them that's is so which do you think it is I think there's a bit of both I would add that. You if you were writing a Hollywood script about what's the worst time to have a pandemic than you would have in place of President like Donald Trump who is very much supported misinformation and confusion. So when you get a signal and we're not immune for a from those signals, even in Canada, than people do get confused about. How important our masks a you were saying one thing. Now you're saying the other. So are you just trying to give me something that I shouldn't buy? So what that does require? is also being. Quite, ruthlessly on about what we're learning now give you another example Brian which I think is relevant. Remember on. There was so much concern about transmission through surfaces and when he went to your grocery store, you could watch Sanjay Gupta on CNN teach you how you take lysol whites and. Clean your groceries when you come home and and then now more careful reviews including by CDC and WHO and others have basically said they haven't found as best. They can document a single case that's been picked up by basically someone saying I've touched a surface and then I touched my mouth and I got infected. So the That's an important point of confusion as well. Ideally, you would learn from what is important and Keep conveying that to the population that this is really the important things to note that the main concern. That we have is not so much in younger adults because generally there are exceptions, but you will get a mild disease, but it's the onward transmission in to the elder population of Canada, which were the ones that were really effected by the first wave eighty percent of the nine thousand deaths in Canada occurred in nursing homes and the elderly population. And so for people understand that chain of transmission isn't intuitive. So what what you're saying nutshell is that is that they're not younger people aren't confused that they're at risk of getting infected, but they are confused that they can take it to somebody who's vulnerable. So now I would add one other element of that. You know what happens every morning is I know my daughters who were on campus at the University of Toronto at ten thirty they checked the posting to see what were the cases before everyone's doing. You know it's it's on, it's safe Beijing my phone how many cases were there yesterday? And so you look at those numbers, and then of course, there's a lot of twitter coverage about what are these trends look like? People look at these curves and say, Oh, wait a minute cases are going up a lot. But the hospitalizations and deaths aren't. They did first time they recognize that but they're not now. So they think well, wait a minute what. It should be okay I can just carry on because this is not as bad as it was first time. You add that observation which is a fair observation of the evidence. And the noises from the south and I would say a relative Poor performance of public health communication and the science communication. And it's not surprising. Exactly was caroline said that. Many people are confused about what the real risks and what's important.

"Hello and welcome to Matt, to liaise confused this is Matt Leah. I'm fucking confused. As. Usual but increasingly so as life goes on. Were supposed to get wiser and maybe we do and perhaps that wisdom is what leads to. Mike confusion because there's no real way to look at the fucking world particularly right now. and honestly say. With a straight face. That you are not deeply fucking confused. It's fucking overload. You've got one person saying this got the other percent, the opposite and everybody else saying everything in between about every single fucking thing. That being said. There are still some shit. That you can look at. And just no. That's bad shit. So to make us feel better. I'M GONNA, start with a couple of things that are just. Bat. Shit people. Being. Bat Shit. To give us a parameters about at the very least. There are still some things we don't need to be confused about. Okay. Here's. I. Guess You could call commentator Josh. Bernstein. He's a big right wing dude. He he he's all about on. And with the election coming up, that's one of the things that is confusing that everyone's got something to say about it. So, does Josh Trump's GonNa play you what Josh has to say. About the upcoming election and what will happen if you are white. And don't vote for Donald. Trump. So, if you're whites and you're a Democrat and you're planning on voting for Joe Biden. Uranian you're suicidal. You're taking your own life in your own hands because if God forbid these people get elected and this is part of their platform and you're white. Well your personal safety is going to be in jeopardy and that unfortunately is the truth with this election and that's why I've been saying this election is trump or death. K.. fucking. This election is trump. Or Death Hey Man. I'm pretty sure I mean that clip out of context but I'm pretty sure he's talking about. Black lives matter and. support for social justice platforms in such. So you know according to Josh Mr Fuckin- cue-ball head I don't know if you know what he looks like but. If you're lucky you don't know. If you do know you also know that his head looks more like a cue ball on a pool table that any other head. In the history of heads. So that is just a good. For me I find that despite the absolute madness of people like that. Seeing and hearing people talk now whereas it used to cause me great anxiety I would say maybe before trump or even early trump. Now it's sort of like a respite for me. It's like an oasis from confusion. It's like I can just watch this fucking demented. Insane person that can just listen to this fucking mental case. And feel a little better. Because at least my confusion has gone my certainty is back and I'm like, wow. At least I'm not. That? fucking. Guy. At least I'm not confused about this that guy's fucking bat shit. Speaking about Shit I don't know if you guys are have been paying attention to this, but it's Trump's been on lately. About Mail in voting and absentee voting. He makes the distinction between Malin voting and absentee voting and he says mail voting. Is Bad. Absentee voting is necessary. And The Democrats according to him are so corrupt that their mail in. Voting Scheme. is going to illegitimate is the election this is according to him. And his suggestion thereafter in the same tweet course, it was in a tweet. FUCKS fucking sake. This was in a tweet just like every other. Condemning. Now sucks it's now suck so bad. President is like blasting out in Saint, shit on twitter the president. Let's not get. Too used to that you know. But. It is the way it is now in his his whole point was that. Maybe we're GONNA need to postpone the election to make sure we get this right. Meanwhile Every single fucking. Every single person in government Democrat, or Republican. In the wake of that tweet, which of course, everybody had to fucking respond do. Because that's a big bullshit about the trump on twitter thing every time he tweets something. Ridiculous. Everybody's got to have something to say about it, and then that becomes the entire fucking news cycle. Because fucking DUMB ASS CNN MSNBC, fucking terrible Fox. And everybody else. Is like excuse me Senator? Holly What do you think about Donald Trump fucking tweeted. Anyway in this case. It was a unanimous response. And it was. There's no fucking way. That we should. Under really any circumstance delay the election I think Mitch McConnell. Since seventeen eighty eight. Even. Through the fuck in civil war. And all this other crazy shit we held elections on election day. And there's absolutely no reason to not hold it again in two thousand twenty. Lindsey Graham. Ben. Sassi. From I think he's from fucking Nebraska. Kansas maybe. Ben Sassi that fucking Phil Hartmann. Sketch on us now Sassy. I duNNo. That's how you say his name is spelled his name S. A. S. S. E..

"confusion" Discussed on Developer Tea

"What does it mean to be confused? What exactly is happening brains then reality? I want you to give this question. Some thought why you're listening to this episode and then I want you to imagine how this might apply to your interactions with the developers. Perhaps your manager or if you were a manager your direct reports the company. You lied when you think about the role of perception in the work. You do my name. Is Jonathan Control? You'RE LISTENING TO DEVELOP T. Goal of this show is to help. Driven developers find clarity perspective and purpose in their careers. So think about this question. What does it mean to be confused? Simple assertion to kind of guide you in this this recognize. The confusion doesn't exist outside of someone's mind in this. We are including you know the the fact that animals can become confused but confusion is a problem of perception and does not even really a problem when you look at it from this frame. Because it's very easy to see that confusion can lead to learning confusion. For example in a child might lead to curiosity but in our professional lives we tend to see confusion as a sign of weakness or perhaps a lack of preparation. The truth is that we all have gaps. In our knowledge that we all have moments of confusion. Even about things that at one point we actually knew a lot about. It's possible that our perception has changed about even the same subjects that we have developed knowledge round in the past and so it makes sense that we should be kind and perhaps even invite confusion to be a more regular part of our work. So how can we do this for ourselves? And for others perhaps most importantly that's what we're gonNA talk about right after we talk about today sponsor Leonard whether you're working on a personal project or managing your enterprises infrastructure of Leonard has the price support and scale. Use The code developer. T twenty twenty to get that twenty dollars worth of credit. That's developer t two zero two zero. Thanks AGAIN TO LEONARD FOR SPONSORING. Today's episode of Developer T. So how can we not only be kind to ourselves and kind to others? When we experience something like confusion but also invite it invite confusion because we know that after confusion often comes curiosity and learning it helps to regularly experienced confusion yourself. Try to expose yourself to new experiences that force you to think in ways that you're not necessarily naturally going to think in this experience of confusion will remind you what it's like to be a beginner again so you'll naturally can build some empathy up for that beginner mindset but it's also important to understand that sometimes the best people to understand confusion. The confusion of being a beginner are people who were more recently beginners themselves. So if you're running. An organization might make sense to not only allow much more experienced programmers to be mentors of younger or less experienced programmers but also to allow the ones who were beginners not. They're not long ago. Allow them to be mentors as well. The final Exercise that I want you you to employ When you are in a situation where one person is confused and another person is not walk through your assumptions walk through your Simpson's and verify. Validate those assumptions test yourself against them. Test the perception of the person who is confused who is expressing confusion. Perhaps they are seeing something. That is confusing. That you aren't seeing at all. It's very possible that confusion his a more appropriate response to whatever reality. You're facing together nine. You're the one who has the limited vision ultimately work to reduce the stigma around admitting confusion. Admitting the lack of knowledge admitting the need for help or the desire for a different perspective the idea that we can go it alone that we can own our entire feature. This is based on an old model of thinking and it doesn't really reflect all of the learning that has been done. Collaboration be.
