"How are you tonight good how are you doing good I appreciate you giving us a little bit of time were approaching the deadline two weeks from tomorrow lot of anticipation there I don't know if there are any players that are going to be available that are going to change people's minds about who the favorite will be the Dodgers very much on people's mind obviously Houston and the Yankees and maybe the cubs and brave to some people what are your thoughts about how meaning full the deadline will be for twenty nineteen I think where it's going to be most meaningful is with the Astros they're really struggling to sell the back of the rotation right now Justin Bieber lander there J. Gerrit Cole and wait my life in a good top three look Brad peacock nursing shoulder soreness and their number five starter spot really being a rotating guys I wrote him a group of guys who have been able to fill it if they can get someone who can really you know be a reliable factor Tatian starter that's going to give them a better chance to contend with the Yankees and then whoever else comes out of the American makes I think that's where you would see a difference maker but you're right the Dodgers are the best team in the National League I don't know if the Braves can necessarily add one guy that would change that really the Astros which came word difference maker could come into play that makes sense to me for sure I was talking about this earlier like get your opinion on it sure seems like there's a lot of resting going on you know the watching the best team in the American League the Yankees and they lemay you is played eighty one out of ninety is going into the all star break same with horror as they seem to lead the team in that regard it just seems like a cross baseball and we see this the NBA for a while but not so much in baseball it's almost impossible I just ask the guys you think anyone will ever play two hundred straight games again and both of them both of the producer said I don't think so I mean it's crazy isn't I you know it the dog days of summer and I think we know a lot more about rasta now by what it is to the human body now that we didn't say the nineteen seventies obviously streak like cal Ripken junior put together were pretty amazing but you know there's an argument to be made that her legs to be fresh in October you do you want to get some guys arrested July especially when it's you know ninety to a hundred degrees day in day out lot of travel a makes sense and I do think that is the reality of the world we live in really in all sports socks baseball no you're right it's just interesting to see the baseball even with young players like labor Thorez who you know is not a catcher and and and get so many days off and and course thirteen that's winning so they're a good example because of their doing it and doing as much warning as they are then obviously the other teams are going to do it as well and give guys days often it's just a different world so much of baseball has changed I just heard the announcer talking about tonight's Tampa Bay Yankee game four home runs three add three two ball game and eight pictures used already so you know the game was changed so much it's it's important to sort of keep up with it in that regard and then well you have to I mean I put a violators all over baseball are trying to do and we seen so many things change just in terms of how much velocity and now the game or even five ten years ago the average fastball velocity keeps trending up and up and up and what about me now for the guy who only throw ninety ninety two you know ten years ago like I have a wall now he might not and then the power explosion we saw the surge really come in two years ago now take another step this year so trying to measure y'all can how much is real power how much is not real power you need to go get you know clinical power hitters because even the non power hitters are heading home run now it's constantly changing even people within the gamer trying to find out what that balance is and what it all means that the constantly evolving yeah it really is and it and it changes the way the teams are matters for sure each night and the other thing you notice quite and this is coupled with my first part of my question about guys getting days off at cetera but so few teams trot out similar line of each night I can't believe how many changes there are you see the team play in the next time you see him in old there might be six or seven of the same players another batting a some sort of different order it's amazing well that is just how much more ten fifteen guard a match ups now specimens of analytics and every single ounce of data you can imagine can be broken down it's no longer as simple as you know he's a righty facing left let's get him in there and okay I think you're still right so you you got a plan for that as well there is that in okay if this left the house this specific his profile are you successful with no slider that have this much breaking this part is down in this specific matters that have worked really well for that I mean we're really getting down to them you know the minute details here and that's why you're seeing so much you know changing like tonight and really the teams that are able to keep a steady line up are almost a rarity now really who they are I mean that's just another part of the change involved in there and it makes sense to because if you do see four five pitchers against you on any given night then you know that it's you're going to have to to mix and match and give that a lot of thought about how you do not just against the starter but how you do what your numbers are against this bolt that in this situation so you're absolutely right we're talking to Kyle Glazer baseball American national writer any players you think are sure to be traded or other you have heard about Zack Wheeler but that he has the inflamed shoulder you wonder you know what his situation will be you know some teams are really down on pace to lose a hundred games but a lot of those polled teams don't have players that they are that are covered by other teams are is there anybody out there you think you'll be shocked if he's still with this team Marcus Stroman more than anyone else the blue jays are completely out of that they're not gonna give an extension that they've you know them to come out and said that directly but all find the point is that for a while he's pitching really really well he's exactly what a lot of contending teams need he he's the guy that if you stole Toronto blue Jay on August first I'll be shocked go for a long time the answer Madison Madison Bumgarner but with the National League you know no one's really pulling away in the wild card race the giants struggled all year and you look up and as of this morning three came out of the wild card you know so that kinda complicate that situation a little bit of instruments the guy whether he'd you know in pinstripes where he goes to Houston you know who knows where exactly he ends up but I will I personally would be shocked if you still in Toronto on August first we think the red Sox are looking for well relievers I mean they're both kind of been a mass on most of the year there in the bottom bottom ten and then in bold we are in the majors actually wrote about this that way the big trade deadline preview off the baseball America dot com right now turns it just keeps save percentage reporter dead last in baseball hobby save they've converted relative how many opportunities they have I mean this is the team that need someone who can close out games consistently in truth we guys who can help get them to a ninth inning with a lead on apple has a mass they need not as one reliever you know you can argue for two or three to really get where they need to you know it's it's a very very tough race at the top of the American League right now and I don't see how they can realistically say oh yeah we're gonna go wire to wire at the age you can raise here with the bull pen is currently constructed how do the Mets fix their problems add not gonna be done in one all season the Mets one of the fundamental problems with them that's for a long time now they still play the right players if you look at it they've had held the players come up but they waste so much time playing god pastor prime which other require who's a racing get him and it really an unforgivable amount of playing time last couple years new regime doing the same thing with Robinson Cano this year he should not be on the field the Mets have a talented group of players as you go along to make me all you know don Smith Conforto Nimmo but a lot has are wasting a bath on guys are past the point that just don't help and we see that happen after multiple general managers until back at six you know they can sign whoever they want they can drop this wall they as they want they drafted while but the major league level you've got to put the right players on the field enough missile coming the Mets for years now you think there's a market or that that they would change their am all and deal Syndergaard or do you think that that's just too big a change for them to for ownership to to really look at well the biggest problem is Noah Syndergaard as you be selling low he's struggled really really badly this year he still has great stuff but watch the game the amount of pitches to weave in over the heart of the plate is getting crossed so on the one hand if the Mets can get playing really big for him yeah you pull the trigger but with the way he's been pitching you know it's not clear that they would get you know a really really tantalizing top and package and if they don't get that there's no reason to sell low on a guy who you know has been successful he's still young he's under control and that's part of the conundrum there in a lot of their best trait pieces are not performing well it goes for Stephen mass as while in and now we was hurt and he was happy to come down off of last year to most successful team that isn't getting the respect they probably deserve is the twins how do you feel about well they're absolutely for real I this one must complete teams in baseball they lead the majors in runs scored one through nine I I think this is the auto focus of the strongest wind up at the most balance wind up I mean there is no line up whole here even the Astros and the Yankees you could see you know whole or two at the bottom depending on you know who they tried out there on certain days that's what they're not even there hence they can they can hurt you off as of late the starting rotation has been really really solve this year better than given credit for Jose Veras is probably one of the best young pitchers in baseball doesn't get talked about enough and even the back the Boltons find this season six seventh inning help and that's easy to get by the way that really good for system to the twins are for real and you know why would sit here today and tell you I would pick him to beat the Yankees in a best of five or six seven series I I don't think this is a fluke this is a really good team that has a chance to do some damage and if they really fortify their bull pen at the deadline very being very difficult team to beat you now in August September and October Kyle good conversation we appreciate it very much thanks for joining us my pleasure they travel there you go god Glazer baseball American national writer give me the scoop I do think the twins are ignored and I don't know why you know middle of the country relatively small market compared to the Chicago Los Angeles New York Philadelphia Boston type cities but.

"But then when he spoke with you guys on Monday, he indicated that part of the reason why and you were in the room. You can tell me if my perception is wrong part of the reason why is that he was out of the lineup on Monday was because the fact that he hadn't run out balls. And he talked about how he Jin hee and Jim Riggleman their bench, coach had met with him. But then when you and others, one to canal canot didn't take that at all. He basically indicated that, that really hasn't come up in his conversation with Riggleman and Callaway. My right, right. When they discuss we told him, he was going to have to off. They didn't say anything about this is because you didn't run out of all it was they had been planning to have a day off. You know Mickey head. Circle. This said circle Mondays day offer Keno. He kind of said he should have given them off. Maybe Sunday just because he had played so many games in a row. But he said, you know, I haven't played Sunday and we'll, we'll give them up Monday because it's against Corbin is a good lefty. And, you know, so it was all kind of preplanned, and when they told canot that he was going to have this day off. They didn't present it as disciplinary booth. They just told him he was going to have a day off. And, and so does mine wasn't being disciplined. He was just getting a day off. And he said, you know, apologized to Moretti and, you know, we passed that and everything so can know and connotes my, he had addressed it with Mickey already, but this was not a disciplinary move to him. The timing of it was quite convenient to say that it was Larry and Mickey who has I say, sorta defended can on Sunday presented. It sort of as a disciplinary situation in the press conference. Yes. As one of the three was one of three reasons yet, but the others, being lefty. And just the fact that he played a lot of time in the rest anyway, tending while reason number two, he said, was the was the running out the balls everything. So now very convenient, I would say this about early van wagon in meeting with reporters I do feel like he absolutely owned his role in the two thousand nineteen Matt's when he was asked about his brash statements, he said, I don't have regrets from this off season. When I said, publicly and privately that I believe that we can create a contending team. I believe that wholeheartedly. I believed in it then, and I believe that there is still enough talent in this room to get back in contention this year I felt like Brody owned his role in the two thousand nine hundred nineteen as he should Tyler. How did you? You feel I agreed. And I think that it is his his vision was the Wilcox vision. The willpower did not want to concede. They wanted to go for it in a way it's kind of cool. So many teams tanking that the Mets, even though they had eight out of ten losing seasons. Now they didn't want to tear it down. They didn't have the stomach for that. So they hired a GM who share that vision and made a lot of moves to that effect and to produce credit, he, he is going to wear it and he said to, you know, he didn't say blame me because they're again, they're not conceding. But he said, this is my responsibility and me in the front office built this team. So I thought that was cool because, you know, to fire, Mick as Mickey the manager, I don't know. He's made some missteps for sure, but Mickey didn't construct this team. And you know didn't put all these over thirty guys on it. And I don't know. I mean I I'm I'm, I'm still not sure they're berry yet. I mean I, I look, they have they have four young position. Players who should be pretty good, you know, with allowance over sorry. Oh and, and Conforto Nimmo. Sa- veterans some good pitchers. I mean, I you know, I think they should be in the mix but whether they are not it's more on the GM the manager. Yeah. Brody also said this about.

"We take you right up until one o'clock this afternoon, and let us go to Bill in Linden who's on the fan. Hi, bill. Hi, guys. Check real quick. Yeah. Joe you as well. Speaking on how sign butter. Yes. You guys on the match. I call Sal, pay half STAN contract on all. I want them. All I want to know that I won't go too high on Stanton. I really do. Yeah. Okay. I can't deal. Conforto Nimmo you on MO nemo. I do take. I'll I'll listen, I'll take whatever you got. You wanna me watch? I'll take. So why do we even with Stanton? I'm not giving you Nimmo. I'll I'll do I'll do them. Explain to you. Why? Because I know why he won the MVP or stain one was in my opinion joke. The guy still end up on the last place team. Not. Not his fault. EPSN MVP would still carry. Listen. It was a year of being in a big spy was never in a big spot before that will you wish you would Yankee game. One time Seattle just said that last year is the only example the rest of his career. He was toiling in Florida. So you're. One year. That's what you're doing understand that. What I am. I reading in for one. Yes. You are. That's what you're doing. My concern would stand. If he does get hurt a lot at one time. He got beat. You know, you got hit in the face with a ball pitch pitch. But he does there is an injury history here with this guy. Listen, I love Stanton. He also strikes out a million times. Those are all completely fair. If you wanna say he shouldn't have won the MVP in two thousand seventeen because the Marlins warrant that good. That is completely fine. I have no problem with that president precedents for over to, you know, question, but you can't rip Giancarlo Stanton. It's not his fault. The team didn't he hit fifty nine home runs and drove in one hundred thirty two and not his mind boggling when I think of that team any outfield. They had that they dumped them all I mean Stanton. Yelich Osuna kidding. I'm sorry. And I'm gonna say this with peace and love and a lot of respect in this case. I'm couching this very well. In this case, Derek jeeter was a full and the reason why he was a full is because you just hit on it. Outfielder. These guys weren't all like thirty five years old either twenty six twenty five and twenty seven you've got to be kidding. So you have those guys plus JT rail Muto and Dee Gordon there. I forgot about those guys. Right. If you add a picture or to write and Fernandez past the untimely death. Of course. But I mean, you gotta be kidding. If you added a pitcher or to that lineup was dynamic Zuhdi by the ways off to a pretty good start yell. It's forgetting. Yeah. And giancarlo. We understand we understand what's going on. But I also think if you wanna say Giancarlo is in clutch, you can say it, but you're saying based on one year because you're not judging anything else he did in Miami. Because you are making the judgment that the Marlins were irrelevant. They weren't any good. They were over five hundred like one time. He was there. Actually, I don't think they were ever. Eight hundred most of you have a one was eighty games. Yeah. I'm looking back at night eighty to seventy s seventy nine and eighty two. Okay. So no, eighty two in two thousand ten okay. In two thousand nine they won eighty seven games. But was even on that team. Then no he was not. So so no, but that's not his fault..

"Handles beanie Yankee shortstop you wanna to take the from back Geeta while he's got to do. So in a stopgap role. I'm curious to see if he's got anything less than a tank and a good news for the Yankees. If it doesn't you have options why because gleyber Torres the ability to play shortstop. And that's why I think that DJ LeMay you pick up it's really going to be a one because the Yankees have ways to get creative and mix and match of off the field. That's gonna be jab Aaron Boone to figure out. How am I getting this bats if you're paying twelve million dollars a year? You're not paying them twelve million dollars a year to play once a week. Let's sit down to Orlando Florida. Chris is up next. Chris. Hey JJ. I'm surprised ever. Robertson have an instant reaction podcast for a guest on your show after that nets double overtime game. You must have been dying losing a ten point lead in the fourth quarter. I'm sure he was sick. Now, it was a couple of back to back late nights for Mr. Evan. He'd been. A podcast with me yesterday. And I was amazed Chris because we did the podcast right before I signed on the air at two o'clock. And I'm my cheese Evan we're finishing up here quarter to you got to go to sleep. You've got a radio show to do. My man, what are you doing up? So I don't know if ever watched the game and said, you know, what I'm beaten I'm spent I can't do this anymore. I gotta go right to bed. He didn't want wanna call a hotline and going out. Saved for ten in the morning. Yeah. Yeah. But I will say probably get gets my take any time, you filled in for Joe you and Evan have a great chemistry, and you know, guy said earlier about maybe working with Mike. You're the future FANG should be proud of yourself for that. But get into my Mets take if I can't per moment. There's two two two parties it'd be give me just a second. Explain the front office. And then what me as a die hard Mets fan has to look at it. As is not on my dour going to the World Series. I stopped the front office needs to be smart. Look everybody's talking about holiday signed sale. Well a year ago to Boston signed sale when they had two years to control on them. No he signed with one year control left in. That's why they need to let go out there. He'd get his seventeen million dollars and go pitch now agree with that. If they don't sign him. I also done. Here's the caveat to that Chris, and I'll let you make an point caveat. Chris sales pitch. Winning team is first years in Boston was not. Yeah. Jay with the ground. The last two years is he pitched on a winning team. He's making seventeen million dollars. I understand that Chris. But when you're in a situation where you're not winning. I know it's business. That's fine. But you run the risk as an organization that you're going to alienate the most important and the best player on your team. Is that a risk that you're willing to take? I think so because you got cheers control. This is what the this is how the business was set up he's older than most pitchers JJ. And when you got a guy like Chris sale that says had two years control. Boston says go pitch for us. And then you look at Jake rose at three point five or something like that ERA this year. They're going to have the same opportunity to sign him for a hundred and ten million dollars next spring training. I know Chris they'd better get it done. Because if they go into the final year you and I both now the relationship between he and the Mets will be beyond repair, and it will not be salvaged, and he will not be met for the next four or five years. And here's why. Money out of JJ after that he could get Chris if you have another so poor year. There's no way in the world to Guam if he balls down does what he's supposed to do is gonna wanna be a part of it. No matter how much money you throw at him. But I do like though about the extension. You got a thirty year old pitcher? And I know you gave them a raise. But I don't want to extend them that much more to thirty eight thirty seven whenever there may be I want to extend them. Now get that big money big year clock side by side, and that way, everybody singing kumbaya my player my team. And I'm where I need to be an organization going into twenty nineteen JJ. You gotta extent kindergarten. What if you know, he does have a threesome ERA or even if he does have a year like he did this year, and he goes back to back Cy Young. Then there's a strain relationships you go into the first start. You don't sign for big money when the Mets are offering to you. And you hurt your arm. That's on you. But here let me get to my real quick point in the extended check. So on the field other than upgraded second base and broken down catching that's already hurting Rama fits always had as drip catching. This is the same goodness being team that we've had offensively. Lou Gehrig's, Conforto Nimmo I and and we all say pitching our pitching our pitching. This is the same guy after the World Series year except for map RV Mickey Callaway or excuse me. Last year. Mickey Calloway said these five guys are are good as it gets and l- and look at our season last year. I have to look at it optimistically and say other than Wilson and Diaz in the back in we still have to know you. We started to see once a million last year. And we got an upgrade at second base at thirty six year old upgrade at second base. And a broken down catcher JJ, I think Mets fans as I am a die hard. I have to look at it optimistically. 'cause if not I'm gonna kill myself get zapped up fifteen World Series and the years after I've been optimistic fan and this year. Finally, I'm while I'm not sleeping tonight, obviously, insomnia. But most nights, I can relate my head and say. You know, what they're not knocking to have a great year. And let me be pleasantly surprised. And again, I meant everything I said JJ, you are the future up very very good call. Appreciate the debate. I tend to agree with you on a Mets. And here's how they can change that perception young emerging position players. Because the top teams baseball have him. Do you have an all star from start to finish? With Conforto is brand name. We're going to be just as good if not better than he was a season ago. You need that. Then you have a shortstop showed you some science. Some glimpses file two months of the year. He's got to put it all together. I base Peter Lonzo you could use right hand power. First base. See Dominic Smith out of the gate out of the chute, but you could use that right into pop out of Alonzo these on the sort of questions you need answered because otherwise, right? You got an aging catcher I can be productive this year. But how many more top used Robbie can have left in the tank, and I know the met fan is expecting the worse when you bring in the second baseman why because they have seen. Call us biogra- and seen Roberto Almar come here to players in their prime. No playing pretty well. And they both fell off a cliff by aggregate. Almar whose whole favor came into medicine just turned into a mediocre run. A mill second baseman. So you want to see that? What can all the other problem with this team? Is there an awarded division where seems like everybody found a way to improve? Braids Donaldson pitching bizarre. The Phillies modernise nationally could are you one of the best line of been all baseball. National's even though they lose price. Patrick cortin. Ed, young gome dead, Brian dosier young. And they got some young studs in Atlanta. They will not be easy division. One. So I can understand how you'd have that glass half empty approach when it comes to the message to what you've seen the last two years in China. Make the case they're going to be a playoff team this year. You have to wait see over the next couple of days, I'm gonna shake out the divisions and he season totals and all that good stuff. So we got a lot more on that. We got a lot more on the future of Jacob degrom and yeah second weekend ANC tournament. What gave you can almost tell me? Eight seven seven thirty thirty seven sixty six sixty six it's JJ after dark if a Tony page candidate right here on the fat. It's winter now, and.

"Brian Cashman will make it right with the assets that he has. And the financial assets to go along with the player assets. And they'll get what they need. And then it'll just be a matter of executing were not executed, but I expect them to go into October a very confident team and a very complete team. And whether that looks like this April team or not is to be determined. But again, and I'll say this over and over and over and over native Aldy, Stephen Pierce, not a twinkle in the eye of the Red Sox last April. And those were the two critical guys in October for them. So we get caught up in worrying about the team. Now, it's the team you go to to bat with an October. That matters Andrew in Brooklyn is next on the fan. Hi, andrew. Hey, how you doing good? What's up? Yeah. A little bit giants ally. You know, a lot of loyalist to Eli manning. I wanna ask them, you know, once the last time, they seen allies, intimacy escape ability. Abilities. You know, some time now. I don't. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think so, you know, so and the other thing is, you know, he's had a couple interviews with Mike and indirectly also said it's not interested in mentoring. Anyone I agree with you? I agree. He's done nothing. Right. From a team standpoint. You're absolutely right about that. He hasn't come to them to restructure his contract. He hasn't said he's anxious to bring the next guy along very very reserved on this whole thing. Personally. I don't think it's cool, man. And you know, I just wanna ask you loyalists. Like, he does he says these things each and for some reason the giants afraid book, I don't care what you say. Getting a quarterback you gotta deal with it. But real quick with the match. Michael Conforto has to be good for us to be successful. I trust them to thanks for the time. I appreciate you calling. And I agree with you on Eli. Look, I think the os are pretty important. Conforto Nimmo Zari. Oh, lonzo. They're pretty important. Yeah. You need look they they don't have a designated hitter. They have eight players, right. I mean, they have eight players so. There aren't many places to hide in that Matt lineup. You know, one or two guys can have a bad year. I guess but then. Some guys got to play really. Well, so. I'm more. I'm more optimistic about the Mets. Then I was for sure. But I'm also well aware that they are relying on having healthy starting pitching. And that worries me would worry me about anything. It would worry me about any team. That relies on starting pitching. It's a tough thing to rely on in two thousand nineteen because they go fewer innings, and they get hurt. More Philip and freeport next on the fan. Hi, phillip. How about this? Did you have Reggie Jackson on? Yes. The other day, and that's been trained by any chance. I did not. He's really good, man. I'll tell you something amazing alleged that the talk on that station. But listen, the Yankees are in trouble. If they don't have Severino and trouble for what who's going to beat them. Well, you know, what point we just said listen these guys right now. But Kyko any shot, you know, write him in or is that a pipe dream. I don't think they wanna do it fill up. I don't think they're interested in getting. I don't think they're interested in changing. And I think they like their kids. I don't think they have Lazaga and sesa- and her mind for window dressing. I think they want to see if they can play and I want to see if they can play and one hundred and sixty two with that offensive lineup gives you an opportunity to see if they can play. You don't need to win every night. We went through this last year. And by the way, I don't think the Yankees lost last year because they weren't the one seed. That's not why they lost. They didn't hit in big spots. They scored ten runs and four games against the Red Sox in that four game series. They scored ten runs that's two and a half runs a game. That's.

"I forgot it was going to forty so everything melted anyway. So again on the road tonight. You wouldn't even know, and it was funny when I parked my car at the train station, and I got out some said, you know, what just be gingerly when you get out. And my side is slipping right off the bat on medicines frozen. Ready? Little little, you know, water water just froze over everywhere. You gotta be careful as black tops are very dangerous weather like this. So people if. When you drive in. But be careful as you go to your car because you don't want to kill yourself. Right. I have a question for you sports. Did you hear about Dominic Smith in his sleep apnea? No. I mean, when he was on with Mike today, he was talking about how severe his sleep apnea is they said like, you know, if you they did the tests you go to the clinic, right? And they monitor how often you stop breathing. If it's fifteen times, you got a mask if it's thirty times, it's considered extremely severe AMI times. He said when they monitored monitored him how many times he stopped breathing in one hour, which keeps my sixty minutes. I'll be over thirty. I guess now. Yeah. Almost triple eighty-five five. He said we have the cutting you've been here. Mike's reaction goes. Well, I mean, that's that's serious. But now, I mean, it just goes I am all on board for the Dominic Smith redemption tour, right? I mean, it's but his attitude with maybe he's now healthier. And he's got this under control. Maybe just maybe we're going to see they got they took in the first round a couple of years ago. Whizzy three he's younger than Peter. Lonzo longer even the cuts be plays you I'm still young. Right. What does he say? What treatment does he take the mass now or something else or I forget, he does use something for we have the card if you want to listen to it. How's the later? Yeah. I like him. You know, that's unbelievable. When you hear a fifteen year mask thirties considered a big deal of eighty five. You know, what's going to happen? Him into Lonzo will both have great springs in Lonzo will be left in the minor is because the clock, and listen, if if the reason that I want Pete Alonzo up here if the reason is because Dominic Smith is hitting right now. I mean, it's only spring training, but he's hitting over five hundred. If that's the reason I'm willing to give the kid at a shot. He's still twenty three years old. And maybe it ends up to the point where he starts to your first base allows comes up a little bit later. Maybe you have a great platoon between the two of them or they put spirit goes left field. He continues doing this thing from out there. I said that yesterday, you know, it would be typical Mets to say, you know, what we're going to stick with the kid at first base of this would be a typical match where they have to go back on something. But this would be for a good reason. You just decided we need both of these bats in the lineup every day so Dominic Smith is going to go back to the outfield. I mean that could end up being a good thing for the Mets. If by the time, June July come around Pete Alonzo, Dominic Smith or both in the everyday lineup. When. Twenty four year old right handed power hitter at first and then a twenty three year old former first round pick was still a lot of potential. Maybe just maybe something can actually work for this franchise. Nice. Nice. That would be that'd be very nice. I I'm rooting for Dominic. Smith. Listen, he messed up last year sleeping, laying not show. Maybe this was part of the reason why I'm not giving up on the Cape because of one little mistake like that. I'm rooting for him. It seemed like the rest of the world turn to get some last year. I'm rooting for him. I wanted to make the club. I'm going to be a starter. I want I wanted to I wanted to try and somebody with we we want to go see, you know, I was there when he hit his first city field homerun a couple years ago. That was a lot of fun. The crowd got into it. I routing for fabric for all of them again. If if we get to the point where the end of this year, you say, wow, the Mets have four really good or maybe five young hitters with Conforto Nimmo McNeil Alonzo Smith, maybe there's something to look forward to before. I know it's lefty heavy but still good hitters are good hitters throw in you might be right price. People also big Rosario fan. I'm very happy. They did not trade him this off season. And if you have Alexa, Google home, just say play WGN, it'd be locked into one of the questions today by the Yankees. I'm just that homerun happy. Mantras get nervous because. I don't wanna hear about breaking a home run record unless winning the World Series is in the same sense. So you hit a homeless. What does that what they're gonna be batting practice team? The home home runs a nice fine. But what's the bottom line? Does. He get you into the World Series. Does a win for you. Let's go to Bill and co and find out Joey you're on the fan. Hi joanie. How you doing? All right, man. How are you? Okay. Thank you. Tony about the Yankees. I agree completely. We just said I mean, they play station a station baseball steel basis, we both know that a lot of baseball people think stolen bases overrated. Right, right. It's been there way for some time. The new breed of general managers today, of course, being so young. I mean look at the team with the team that beat him off with the American League east is pitted season. Team. Traditionally, but has been known for next dealing basis. The major leagues steals last year. Tony. I was watching the medicine and the Red Sox and even saying that works to they all put the ball in play play. Exactly. That's one thing the Yankees do not do know. And. That's the way they go down a road. And you know, the other thing is you're gonna hit a lot of home runs. The by Friday, you're going to strike out a lot of times too. If I rather I'd rather, you know, if they said, we're going to have the highest batting average of of a championship team. Or, you know, something about something like that. I'd be more impressed with a lot of homeless because you hit home runs last year. He didn't win nothing. No, no, no. And Tony game. So well. It's not really batting average overall. I mean, it's what are you guys scoring position this war important? Yeah. True. Didn't do well last year in twenty eighteen twenty seventeen. And I mean, if you're a strike forgive my redundancy, but it's either strike oughta go yard. And you're you're right. I don't know, you know. Everybody wants to see it. But it's okay. But are you gonna win anything? I'm not saying the Yankees turned into a stolen base club. And they'll be hit and run now. But. There's got to be a change. I it's it's a little subtle thing. Membership teasers as kids nobody does anymore when you get two strikes. You chat Chuck choke up on the bat why because you have more control with the bat to put the ball in play. You have a different swing with two strikes than you did before that. I don't think. That's that's what's wrong today. There is no adjustment. I'm swinging hard by my hopefully, get three swings. And all of them would be hard and either gonna hit a home run on the strikeout, but I'm still swinging heart. Maybe if you cut down, maybe you won't find out that much. Let's go to Joe in the Bronx. Julia on the fan. Hey, Tony pleasure to talk to you, my friend. Thank you, man. How are you? Tony two points. Please one is other caller took my thunder regarding Dominic Smith. I think he's gonna be a great ball player. It's a good conundrum to have to have to. First baseman that you're looking forward to playing every day. I think Dominic Smith, obviously, the better fielder. Your alonzo. But I don't know what position is actually gonna wind up playing first base for him. I mean, I I I agree. I agree. But he's having problems pensively and this and that. But it's a good problem to have for the Mets react with you. No, I think so too. I mean, it's a dilemma what do we do with them? I mean, you know, I would would I put. Dominic Smith and left field. It looked Alonzo's having a good spring just as good as as as as a damaged with. Why was going to send Pierre Alonzo back to the mind as we hit thirty six home runs and do what? I agree hundred percent, Tony, I agree. And I mean, the the other point I wanted to make was with Giancarlo Stanton. As I'm not a Yankee fan. I am a met fan. But I noticed his Rb is and everything else. I mean, I know it's thirty hundred AVI is thirty home run. It always seems that they came at the wrong moment. Could be up to L make ten to four. I I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. But that's what I saw. So. Yeah. It's. I think he'll add to his totals of home runs and. Is this year? I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. Because coming you traded from like the Mets or the Marlins Mr. the dodgers stadium National League. He's gotta learn learn all the pictures, and he's working hard from what everybody says, that's that's fine. Is I think he'll he'll be he'll be over forty. Oh, have one hundred ten fifteen RBI's. And then you'll see if you know the runs come at the most opportune time. Because we know we always have certain players get with the bases loaded. Trailing in the bottom of knife. And you pop up the bases loaded when you're down by ten runs. You had a grand slam. It's nice makes a little closer. But you know, why can't you do that early? "Seven three three seven sixty six sixty six we're going to be heading back to the phones CJ met. Mark Andrew, we will be taking your calls. Anybody who's out there on the roads? Just want to say be safe wasn't bad in Manhattan when I came into work here. But certainly see pictures on TV and it looks like in parts of New Jersey. They're really looks like the snow is coming down. So anybody out there? Please be safe. All right. Good stuff out of Megan there from the athletic, and I'll tell you one thing that really struck me about what she said talking about the change in perception towards Phillies ownership and I dunno gentlemen, Pete. Wouldn't it be something? Can you imagine? If your ownership where to go out and. And do things like sign. Jake Arrieta and pony up the cash for a Bryce Harper. And think about the perception change, the Philadelphia Phillies fans you have towards their ownership. And Mets fans, and I'm not saying the Mets aren't spending some money. They're spending some money, blah, blah, blah, blah. But last year, it was like signing guys. Like Jay, Bruce. I it's just it's never quite the that big eye-popping sort of deal that is going to make the fan base feel like this ownership is committed to win. Now. I mean, they saw the over one hundred thousand tickets and a day for Bryce Harper. I mean, they sold another eighty thousand. I think the next day they'd sold from what I gather. I think since they signed him, and it's only been like what two days or something. They've sold over two hundred thousand tickets. Yeah. And that's like that's the omits ownerships dream right now to sell that many tickets. How do we sell our fan base on our team that like this? If you said two hundred thousand tickets, and I thought I think somebody I saw estimating at fifty bucks. Approximately a take it or something. So that's like ten million dollars. So right there. In two days, and that doesn't include the increase in jersey sales, by the way, I thought I saw the fanatics said that the Bryce Harper signing. I think it was the also same thing set records for the single biggest pop in jersey sales that they've had I believe across all sports in a in that short a period of time. So when you think of the. Get on parking and on and on merchandising. And then brought about ads sales going up you sell more revenue and all of that. He's thrown in there. But even if just the ticket sales they're going to pay for his contract, they'll pay for his contract and break even on that before the season starts. It's amazing. It's amazing. The funny thing is the off season started. And you'd new with the statement that the Phillies ownership money they were gonna get Machado are Harper and the Mets never had an opportunity to start our God. They would've looked fill the problem for the Phillies when you say that and I give ownership credit is they put that out there. They would have looked stupid had they come up empty basically had to sign one of those two guys and they would've loved dumb. But you know, what? In hindsight, they get their guy. And now they look bold the courageous. And what was interesting is the thirteen year old is a thirteen year. The three hundred thirty million is that the average value annual value turn out to not be that thirty million value. It turned out to be less than that. And so yes. The toll is going to be that they're going to be paying this guy. What he's thirty seven thirty eight thirty nine years old. He's probably limping around the bases. And you know, they have to cut him or something. But still if you got the David Wright insurance policy, maybe they get the insurance on those years when he doesn't pay when he doesn't play. But. It's not such a terrible average annual value as it turns out, and I think once this new collective bargaining agreement hits and the teams now suddenly the players are going to get a higher share of revenue and the owners are going to be paying that. Anyway, I think this contract is going to look like a bargain. No, no question in thirteen years. I mean, that's a long commitment. But you're committed it's on both sides. No opt-outs. There's no more options is you committed and he's going to beat the ease a talented players that ballpark. That's also part of why I five is Bryce Harper wide wanna give their, you know, the giants were interested, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, the dodgers. I get it whatever. But in in that Bandbox in Philadelphia, Bryce Harper. He's gonna roll out of bed in his pajamas and hit forty home runs. And they haven't even aided to the bullpen Robertson. And they didn't answer you the pitching staff yet, which I think they may still Kyko might be poetry. But they might still another pitcher. They that offense is ridiculous. They went out they stole row. Muto from from remote motor didn't happen. They got they got jeans cigar for for almost nothing. I know. I mean, they were able to add so much to their team offensively. This is gonna be a deep team in an already they proved a Bryce Harper that to be winners. And we want you on our team that never that doesn't happen with the man. And if they don't go out, and may I would if I were them I would wait and stand around and probably buy low on GIO Gonzalez who actually thinks the Mets should also be going for. I think the Mets need depth to their starting pitching. If I'm the Phillies. I probably go out. That's my last piece. I get like a GIO Gonzalez. I understand Kyko might be too many too much money. He's in his thirties. He put it but a GIO Gonzalez. You get for pitching depth. But even if they don't do that, you know that ownership now is sitting on some money start the season. And if those young starters, don't have the Vince Velazquez. There's an all those guys if they don't have the promise early on that they want you know, that the Phillies will take a look around. And they'll be in the market somebody'll dump a starting pitcher and before the deadline. You know, come June though, though by a starting pitcher, they'll certainly find that that player in the near the trade deadline, which is what the met every year. They charted to stay sub five hundred. And then if they're above five hundred in it, they'll make that move. This is how you build a winning team you build you have a decent Pichit. Listen, they're not the best starting pitching staff are knows a really good pitcher. He's up there for Cy Young shore. They don't have enough that they don't have enough depth. But it's a good start, and you have to build, and I guarantee you they're going to add one more if it's not if it's not an ace. It'll be a number two starting pitcher. And that's perfect while they had maryetta already. So all you need really is a three. Yeah. Go out and get a solid three. And then a couple of these guys develop developing your young talent. But yeah, no, the Philly's a lot of reason for excitement, and if you wanna tell me right now that any of those four teams ends up winning the division. I could believe it. I think it's going to be a rough four team race. And that's why every move does count. And now it sounds like the nationals are very serious about Craig kimbrel. And it's not like they don't already have a good bullpen. The nationals prioritize bullpen. They went out and signed bear claw. They went out and signed Trevor Rosenthal who apparently is three hundred miles an hour after his Tommy John, and they already had Sean Doolittle as their hose are. So now if they were to actually get the nationals with those guys in their bullpen or to turn around and get kimbrel. Then you could make the case of the nationals. Have the best bullpen in non Yankees division. Kind of best bullpen maybe in the National League, and is going to be a stacked besides ballons. But, but I I gotta be honest. The Mets sit four from me. I I. I I'm just too realistic at times. But I think I see the Phillies clearly the favorite now. After the Bryce Harper. The nationals are to me the nationals. I understand they lost Bryce Harper. But to me the nationals are the favourite in the NFL. It's like it's like a sneaky little thing there with the nationals. I understand they lost Bryce, but take a look at what they did. They're catching situation last year stunk. Yeah. You went out and get added to very good catchers. Now, they have depth there. They were too reliant on on Stephen Strasburg. And you're always worried about him getting injured I may not love long-term that Patrick Corbin contract. But oh boy a starting rotation. That's sherzer Strasbourg and Patrick Corbin. Thank you very much. I liked that a lot as I mentioned their bullpen has always been a problem in the weakness. They struck early and added guys to the bullpen. They went all over the place and added depth and one of the problems for the nationals that they've had in recent years is that depth problem. And now you look at it. So they lost Bryce Harper. I know that sounds like a lot. But he didn't he was good last year. But not necessarily may be great. If when you look at an outfield that is Soto Victor row blazes. There are other high end prospect who now gets playing time Adam Eaton back from injury. We'll see how long that lasts. But they still have Michael Taylor as their who's perfectly fine as their fourth outfielder. Suddenly, I'm just saying, you know, so now road bliss slights robust slots in another top ten in baseball prospect fills in for Bryce on paper. I think the nationals to me are the most complete team. In the division who added depth and have good defense. They need a closer. I because I until they can close at a game. I can't believe it. They've had the bullpen was okay last year. And they and they just added a couple of guys Sean Doolittle is legit guy. Now you want to add kimbrel. I get that. And make that even more of a strange sure, but on paper. Right now, I say nationals to me are the are the team to be an old, by the way, the Braves actually won the division last year and the Braves actually improve their improve their team. I know catcher answered base Braves improved. I love the Donaldson move from the bridge. Adding Josh Donaldson taking a chance on a one year deal on a former MVP and as long as he's healthy. I think that's a steal on Josh Donaldson. And then they brought a Brian McCann home for for the catching spot. So I think and they had a lot of young talent. That was just figuring stuff out last year. So you can make a case I think the Braves should should be a little bit better. The nationals are deeper and less and the whole thing was like a circus cloud hanging over their heads. So that wouldn't surprise me there. And then the Phillies certainly a better baseball team. So. Oh, yeah. I think the Mets look it's always gonna come down with the Mets. The Mets starting pitching could end up being dominant enough that. The Mets wonder Conforto Nimmo going to be. Big question. That's a big question. Big question. Again. Listen brody. I love the I love the the attitude. I love that. You're you're very confident. But don't tell me that you guys are all in and come get us because they did the Phillies made moves he's he's made moves that bake. You look small right now. I'm sorry. And by the way, nets could still do something. Nothing says you can't go out and the that you have to go into the season with Jason Vargas as your number five starter hoping and praying that he will be both good and healthy. And by the way, unless you're gonna take away from your bullpen was like flu or somebody. You don't actually have a number six starter there. Nothing says you have to history says that we have to three says that we have to deal with what we pay for. And we pay for one dollars. Right. Jason Vargas either way. He made a great catch. I think he has three basis while he is my everybody's got your little your soft spot. The thing that you just can't help yourself. Fantasy baseball fantasy football whatever every year, you have like kind of that guy that draft even though he disappointed you every year, and you just can't help yourself..

"We have meshed this. Hand signal of me pointing at my sweater. But you know, I get what he's saying. I just think that. For instance, when it comes to a guy like Batanes us by then he turns thirty one in March. It turns thirty one March. Okay. So for tenses has the year this year that he had less year to seventy IRA. Good whip tons of strikeouts. If he has that year. Get four for forty somewhere four for forty four. I just think I think he could. But I don't think he would want to leave. I think all things being equal. He likes being here. This is his home where he was born. Listen, I said I wouldn't play in Detroit. But he's you don't hear anything about him. I think maybe he has a tremendous support group. And I feel like maybe they protect him around here. You know what? I mean, they make sure that nothing about him gets out. You know, he's a made man here in New York. And it's nothing like being the man in New York. And I imagine being the man in New York and being from New York. So now, you feel comfortable because you you're around your entire family. Not just the ones that live with you three and thirty six about that for the Yankees in between the other two I think that works naked saddle river, Nick what's up. Hey, guys. Yeah. That's refit thirty six it'd be team friendly, but I think most realistic number should be a four forty four if not higher, and here's why I mean. Yeah, you could easily say he has one of the top ten middle reliever numbers year for year. But for somebody to how I think five or six years straight with over a hundred strikeouts. It's so much more than just the numbers. When you watch him pitch. You really do see somebody who transcends numbers. Yeah. Able to strike out any single player at any given day. And yeah, you can let the one ball go at any point. And God forbid you put him on whether the guy at second base PLO any game at any point. But. Anything with the baseball. Also, I will stay on the line. I'll take that way. I've got see cert. Monday. We're feeling. Yeah. Why not get it? You get a t shirt. All right. Oprah relaxed. Who's paying for this? Franks in Mineola fridge soi. How you doing guys? Listen, all these Yankee, talk when extending their guys. Why aren't the Mets trying to extend Conforto Nimmo Syndergaard has already said he he'd like to talk about an extension. Why is it the same thing? New GM? It's the ownership. The ownership the ownership, and you know, the Yankees do things the right way. Well, Frank some of those guys are too young. I'm not I'm not doing nibble right now. I'm not even thinking about that. Syndergaard. Guess you're right about that. If they were smart, I feel like they would want to be thinking about Syndergaard. You don't want to refuse though. Because right now, I think he's going to bet on list. What I mean Conforto has put up, you know, shown he can come back from slump? Last year. He was hurt in the first half of the year. I would be very very careful before I extended Conforto. I need to see you need to see one more year. Chris Chris Conforto. It's going to be the best hitter on this team. I mean, yeah, I understand boruses agent. If the guy wants to stay here. Let's get it done. You know, he's one of those guys to Frank. He's twenty six right now. Right. So he's got two more years of arbitration eligibility like you're right. This is kind of the year where if you do believe in the guy, this is where you want to try to get him out on a team friendly deal. Listen, they made they made a big mistake. Garris big mistake. But that was that was saying the oldest and he paid off a one good year. Yeah. They can't be scared. You know? I mean, these are their homegrown. Well, they made a big mistake with the ground. They should have done that after two thousand fifteen but ever want to so looking at Matt Harvey. My problem here. What's Conforto as I know he played the entire season. Yes. He was hurt in the beginning of the year. Yes. See at a strong second half of the season. I just want to see a little bit more. And Conforto look Boris to getting away from the if he's smart he's going to start getting away. We always have to go to free agency because you're not always going to wait for someone like Conforto. He's not Bryce Harper. Not. He's he's a very good player. He might turn out to read the Mets best hitter. But I got news for you on a winning team. You don't want. Michael Conforto to be your best hitter. You want somebody better? You want him to be number two. And number three. You don't want him to be number one. I know there was a time though, what twenty seventeen before he got her to my face is one of the top fifteen hitters in the National League. I think he came back to early last year and took them a while to figure it out. I mean, these PS before he got hurt was nine thirty nine. That's pretty damn impressive. But.

"Why would Kyrie Irving cobby Leonard, Jimmy, Butler, and all these other fees? Lever for an organization does the functional and organising very dumb owner in James Dolan, an organization to this one. Up by the steamboat. Coming up. I'm optimistic. I left understand why you would not be optimistic when it comes to the next because they really have not given you many reasons to be up domestic over the last, you know, we're going on on twenty years. Now, it's been a you know, there have been one or two blip seasons. But mostly it's been a lot of depressing basketball. So I get that point you want to say, why would Kyrie Irving? Want to come here? Kyrie's case, he's a local guy grew up in the area and has talked openly about the Knicks being attractive to him for that reason. Now, I hear what you're saying about the Knicks. And you know, we think why would someone want to come here. And yet, I'm not saying it will happen. But when Anthony Davis was. His agent initially asked about the teams he'd be interested in playing for any rattled off four teams. The Knicks were one of those names, and it may seem stunning you think? Well, why would that be? But there still is some allure to playing at Madison Square Garden to living in New York. And I admit it's gonna take the right kind of player to say, I mean, you would be it would be something of mythic proportions. If you could somehow will this New York team of the Knicks to a championship? I dunno as Kevin Durant up for that kind of challenge. Ultimately. Probably not. But but the rumors are that he's at least slightly interested. And I'm with you, Leslie in the sense that. Yeah. When was the last time the Knicks got lucky are they going to win the lottery with a fourteen only a fourteen percent chance of doing it in eighty six percent chance of not to get Zion Williams center. They gonna get these free agents to wanna come. It's a long shot. But that's what you have to hope for if you're a Knicks fan. Lebron was coming here and twenty ten and that never happened. So that issue I really think LeBron was coming here. That one I was hoping there is some sort of a chance, but I didn't really think he this coming to New York in this case, here's what I'll say was Kevin Durant. It's not that. I think he is coming to New York. It's just that. Well, I guess in the sense. It's like LeBron. I really I think it's hard to say what is going to do what we don't know is that we don't know what Durant's gonna do. And at least in Durant's case, I think the Knicks will get a chance to have a conversation and LeBron's case. He ultimately, he just wasn't really interested in the Knicks. He just wasn't. And the ultimate will come down. He's got another be interesting because listen, what Brown is a guy with look up to clear influenced by him. Knows don't such a better owning a terrible guy to work for. Why would they need these guys wanna play that you say that? And I hear you. But in terms of Dolan being such a terrible Guida to to play for. I don't know that LeBron James necessarily feels that way. It's pretty clear LeBron James was down on Phil Jackson. And and I think that it did not help the Knicks when Phil Jackson was trashing publicly his his best. Well, his his most marquee player and Carmelo Anthony. I think that's alternately. What led to the souring on the franchise by Kristaps Porzingis? I think Phil Jackson. Underestimated how much how much Kristaps Porzingis liked Carmelo Anthony and viewed him as a as a as a mentor, and a friend and NBA players are a fraternity and you can't rip players purse. Personally, you can't rip players in public belittle them. Make fun of them. Whatever it is. Your your team president can't do that. So Phil Jackson, obviously hall of fame. Coach obviously was his time with the Knicks was as an executive was was an utter failure. Now with the current regime. Look is Scott Perry. I don't know that he has the profile necessarily to be able to recruit a top player. I think the reason they brought in David phys Dale is they hoped that Fidel had the charisma to lure top players. But I think they also expected that the Knicks would have have better results so far this season in terms of player development that we would have seen already better player development. Let's say out of Kevin Knox and some of the other guys. And that we would have been seeing part of Fidel was brought in here was to teach this these players defense, and we're not seeing it yet. So there have been some disappointments, no doubt so far in terms of physical. But all of it will not matter. If he is charismatic enough to sit down across from Kevin Durant and somehow lure him to near city. Tell him that he has a chance to be. If he wants to think about legacy, if you think about Durant. He was already a top player when he left Oklahoma City. Already an MVP got to got to the bay area got to Golden State now he has NBA championship reigns. Now, he has NBA finals MVP's. Now, he has he just one another all star MVP. He's got all that. But still in terms of in terms of his his legacy. His legacy is not as as good as it sort of should be because there is the perception is always going to be Mark Berman said it before and everybody says this the sense that he joined a championship team. He joined the team that had already gone down in history as as the Ray. Best regular season winning record. So if he wants to be the man, and he wants to have that legacy that particular legacy. He could be a the Knicks. Mark Messier, come to New York and do for the Knicks. What Messier did for the Rangers in one thousand nine hundred four and. So do I think that's going to happen? It may seem farfetched. But I don't know. That's what the Knicks are banking on with these with the salary cap space, the allure of New York City, the allure of Madison Square Garden and the trance too. They freed up enough cap space to pick whoever he wants to be his running mate. I don't know. When was the last time, the next got lucky is it likely probably not? But that's what you have to hope for Mary in floral park. What's what I'm Mary? Laurie. All your interviews. Very enjoyable terrific. Thank you. Well, this past week Mickey Callaway was quite impressed with the strong grip and handshake from cesspit as well met fans would be very. Mickey Callaway had stepped on. This guy's foot or on his feet or give them a swift kick deceived by remembered how to run. Yeah. It'd be nice. If I could show up on the field sometime in the middle of the season foods, even if it was even sometime around the all star the all star break, and if the Knicks and if the Mets could get cesspit us back. You know, I I don't I don't necessarily love all the moves that Brody made. But I can't argue that the Mets look like a better team going into this season than they were last year. And if they could get cesspit us back and we see the progression forward of players like Conforto Nimmo resort. You could be a very exciting summer in in flushing. It should be one quick thing out with the Mets looking at the whole. Jacob degrom. Yeah. Okay. The town or week is enough. How would the Mets have handled it because they've been blessed with pitching if they still had Matt Harvey, and Scott Boris, how would they handle that? Because all these guys coming up a free agency. They don't have a handle it. Yeah. It's an interesting point. And thanks for the call Mary is I think the Mets. Should have signed Jacob degrom to an extension. You know a couple of years ago. It's their own fault that now they are going to pay top dollar. And I don't know how they don't sign him to a long term extension because not only is he. He the best player on the team happens to be a pitcher, but the best player on the team and the reigning Cy Young award winner. But you're you're current general manager is his former agent and was on record last summer saying you gotta sign this guy to a an extension or trade him. Well, now you look silly. If you don't sign them to an extension, if you're the Mets, I feel like you kind of batch yourself into that corner. And if you have to overpay you're in New York City, and you got to overpay. It's your own fault. Should assign him a couple of years? Yeah. In you had opportunities, you waited. And now, he's the reigning Cy Young winner. And you're gonna be stuck signing him at the top of the market. If you're the Mets. But otherwise, I think it's a story. That's going to be hanging over this team and annoying degrom and the Mets a Mets players all season. So think at some point the two stun one twenty when I come back, and I see you Jay, Robert CJ and Josh will get to your calls when I come back Zach Brazil from the year posts gonna join me, we're in talk some college basketball time for an update with Harris..

"Mike great interview. I've love Rhody love the confidence. As far as the theater's concerned. Obviously the strength the pitching staff back in the lineup. I think they'd be far and above the ball. They need a big right hand that they don't have. Listen, I like the idea of using versatile players. They're relying a lot on kids at first base there. Rely on a lot on. I mean, they really need Canoga Ankara's thing, which I think he can do for a year. I'm going to go with Conforto. The problem is your do you need one of these two he's right handed bass the show up you need know, Braxton you need, lagaras, you need phrase, you need some right hand is to hit Mike. How do you feel about this? I don't know. I'm asking you. Do you feel it's a strength or a weakness that they don't have set position? Then it's weird. They don't have sick. But they want. They don't listen. They have here's what they have. They have more separations than you think. But they're not set their said at this set at a couple decisions Conforto is going to be in the outfield. Most likely most likely I would think in right field. Okay. That's what I would think for Conforto. I mean, he could play Santa abides big. He's gonna play right now. They are going to use lagaras, excuse me. Ramos their everyday catcher everyday shortstop can os their everyday second baseman and can photos in one outfield. Spot every day. Those four anchors the other spots are going to depend on whose playing Frazier could play third a, I know please. I don't agree with what the Frazier although phrases gonna play some against he's going to he's going to bounce back and forth. You see I think Larry going to get a lot of games at first base. I don't think he's going to get as many as second as they think. I think can no we'll play more than you think he'll play close to one hundred fifty he likes to play. They'll find out that can no wants to play every day, which he does Rosario. I think we'll actually have a good year. So I think he'll be okay. I think the question is who are the other two outfield is, you know, against left these they wanna play McNeil Nimmo and Conforto any outfield against right. I mean against righties. They wanna play Conforto Nimmo and McNeil in the outfield. They just told you McNeil's outfielder he'll be in left field. He got Nimmo and Conforto and McNeil then against lefties. You're going to have a garrison the outfield, maybe Braxton, and then you have Frazier in there against lefties. And then the other times you're going to have Lowery in there. You're gonna have Lowery both ways either. They said Larry is gonna play every day. And you got you know, then you've got the other guys especially cow. I don't. Assessment of phrase having to bounce back. The pharmacy. This is going to give them a chance. Now, the he's gone. He's gone. That's all there is still and they also need they need Alonzo to hit home runs and the outfield. Garrett's hasn't played a full season. He's more of a defensive guy and McNeil's ever played played the nails. Sales gonna play left field because they have no infield spot for him. So he's battled carry into the lineup. IS MacDill if he could play outfield, he says he can that's why you plug them into left field. And you have Conforto in nemo and the other two spots and you have garrison center garrison Senate. And then the question is does Braxton Garissa hit it all that's the question. That's why they right handed hitting is very shaky. That's where they got to have somebody step up and help them. They're right handed hitting is extremely shaky Jeff in Manhattan, what's up, Jeff? Hey, Mike ratio is oh what's up an fantastic interview? I really, you know, I listened to van wagon. You ask them great pointed questions. I really think he's delusional in in a certain respect. I mean, he. Definitely confident. That's for sure. He's definitely. This is wonderful. But he called mean this patchwork offense, he's got Robinson can always talking about it. I space hope has he actually used the word lethal with this team. Which is absolutely the. The average. It'll be good. What they have is. They had a very very strong. I think we'll have a good year. I really do is first year. I think he'll do. Well, I think you'll be site to be back in New York. And I think he'll wind up playing mostly second base. He likes to play second. He doesn't wanna play. I I don't think you'll play a lot of I I think they need Alonzo to come through at first base. That's a big key for them. Everyone says is real that. He's a bit of a butcher. But that is powers real first base. That's a big key. But let's be honest. This team is built on the strength of its one two three pitching staff which could be top of the league. And they have a really good closer with familiar a very solid setup. Man, that's their strength their strength is five or six pitches. And they gotta they gotta catch the ball. And they got those five or six pitches. Well, no question, and thankfully, you're the one who's honest, honest with that can get you eighty five wins which might sneak into the playoffs. You know, listen, he's trying to sell tickets. He's trying to build a buzz. He's trying to be confident and sell tickets. Now, the only time he he went agent a little bit on the ground, which I call them on. He went agent on on the big hitters. Let's be honest. Of course, they have room for them. They don't want to get involved. I mean, they have no interest which we knew I knew when I asked the question that they weren't going to get involved. Let's be honest. Okay. We know the not getting involved in the gras in Machado, or you know, they're not going there shopping at neighborhood. You know that they don't now where those guys are going who knows? But then I'll go in there, you know, that back after this. Let's say you just bought a house.

"Won't TV's John Harper Harper. I haven't talked to you on the fan. We it's been a while. Yeah. I know you're you're the they hit their I hear the new sensational. Bernard. Right. I just tweeted you the only other guy I know could pull out that Chuck today. Raj wearing that grandma. What is it lavender and turquoise? I'm not sure what the colors is something else. A-rod? Now, look J lo was really something else. But I mean Iran sitting there in his suit always addressing the part harp. I've been doing a lotta reading of your stuff here. Should we start with the Mets saying away or you want to start on a positive note? What the year was wait a minute. Wait a minute. You can't be depressed about the Mets already. They were better moves to be made. And that's my problem. I mean, look we'll get into a bunch of different things. But let me just start with this catching and center field where they did. By technically, add a center fielder. They did add a catcher, I still don't think it's enough to Phillies get real mood Wilson romo's harp. Well, I know my big issue field, but the catching situation I can understand what they did it to turn. They had no idea if the Marlins were ever going to what was going to happen there, you you don't tell me you were willing to give up two of those guys. Rosario Conforto Nimmo for years. I wouldn't have given Conforto at all. But I would have I would have considered a given operas REO end nemo if I had to, but I figured I could get it done with one plus some other stuff. Well, one one they would've done I'm not done. But. Packaged in a and I think it's some point. I think they had to move on. Because if they don't go ahead and sign Ramos, what if they wind up with nothing at least, you know, Rama's can hit if he stays healthy. It's a really good move. I know what your question about his health. But I, you know, I think the position that they were in. I think they had to move on. Because if they wait wait, wait, I thought the dodgers are going to get a hotel and one other teams still wanted. And so there was no guarantee that was gonna get and that's why I think they have move on. I liked her almost deal. All right. We'll dissociate you like Rommel's. I don't love it. Because you're not a great defensive guy. We touched on it centerfield. I mean, they still don't get a center fielder. Why bronx? That's my big issue with them. I, you know. Look the dodgers are smarter organization. They took the gamble on Pollock, obviously, they were convinced this guy. He's a high Maho guy a high level player, I level high character guy to which I know I know Lowry as well. But to me. Pollock made a lot more sense than signing Lowry. I know they keep talking about Lowery's versatility. But he's basically going to play third base. He's not gonna play short more than maybe once a week and he's not playing a second because can always gonna play therapy day. So you're paying them at third base in your turning McNeil. I who I were. I think you want his back in the lineup. Now, your turn him into spare outfielder and. Mentioned all the time. We know the mess history of trying to turn infielders and outfitters hasn't worked out too. Well, yeah, I saw that in your latest column us, and why dot TV we're talking with John. Harper SF dot TV one about McNeil harp. I mean, they that's kind of my issue with spending on Lowery where let's say they could've spent on Martinez. Maldonado our backup catcher. Yeah. Well, our ally understand right there, you go politics so going on politics. So they get Lowry. Instead, they could have McNeil his role. So now, you're pushing McNeil which I'm not sold on macneil as you are. But it wasn't an area of need. It didn't make any sense. Right. Well, that's that's my I think a good player for switch hitter. But he's thirty five also. And I look there's no guarantee about McNeil. But I think why you're making it tougher on him. As far as he got enough to worry about just continuing to hit in the big leagues, married. Gotta go. Learn to play the outfield we played some college. But he only played a handful of outfield games in the minor leagues. So that's a big adjustment for a guy who hasn't done it for years. Really? So I I just think they forced the Lowry thing. Two years twenty million. I know it costs more for politics. But it wasn't the dodgers got him at a reasonable deal. I I mean, we'll see the Larry thing could very well. Be a good move. I just thought that. Yeah. Need wise? I do agree with you. I think it was a better way to do it. You think harp that there may be thinking long term and hoping to have sex but his back mid season or whatever after the all star break, and in that case, it would be no room for another. Whereas Pollock and apply because they wanna have nemo, and they want to have Conforto along with says is that the thinking or are they counting on says? But it'd be a big part this year. Well, that's that. They're tuna changed a little bit on that. It wasn't that long ago. They were saying we're not count on. All remember, Omar. I went on the radio on radio and shed any. We get for him. Next year is gravy that type of thing. So, but I think. I think they're using that now I mean, they're saying that they seem more progress than expected from his double heel surgery. It could be a case where they're using that as a way to defend them, not being willing to spend on Pollick or never mind Bryce Harper or something like that. How about the starting rotation? I was saying before that it's the same thing with this seem right? You feel like the pieces around should be enough to be competitive, but we'll comes down that starting rotation. Again. What are you going to get from Syndergaard? What are you going to get the same? You got from Wheeler for the last couple of months. What does Matt's going to give you are you a believer that maybe this year, you get the best of Matt's Wheeler. Syndergaard degrom combined. Well, I I think this is the best you have to feel about this rotation. Really go two thousand fifteen because you saw they all basically stayed healthy, man. Well, Syndergaard she thinks that they were kind of weird injury. What was it called hand foot and mouth disease? So I do look match got through a senior made thirty starts. They weren't great starts the only two hundred and fifty innings, but you don't need him to be really if he did number four started. That's okay. Three guys. I'm sold more solo Wheeler than you are. I know you're not convinced but he did it for half a season. He was really really good. And I think you know, Syndergaard. I think it's just a matter of him. He got through the latter injury than some of the things that popped up last year. I don't know if he's ever going to be that guy. We thought maybe he could be that really number true number one. But again, if you if that guy Syndergaard and Wheeler I really good to three. That's that's really good. Now, you're matching up with the nationals at the very least. One of the best one two threes in the in the baseball, really hard. Do you think Brody van wagon is already suffering from foot in mouth disease? I mean, he's talking a big game. Here come ghettos. You think that he has done enough here to make the Mets legitimate contenders? You mentioned the team the nationals. I mean, you don't all the moves the Phillies of may maybe more to come for them likely. More to come the Braves on the division last year met stack up with those three teams in your opinion. I think it could. But I mean, yeah, he's if you're gonna come out and say where the favorites and come get us. Then I think you gotta do a little bit more than you. I think you have to at least make the move if not and that's something else. And they did he did he's done a lot of what I really like is that he has added deaths which is a major problem for this team. We know injuries anytime injuries a pit they haven't had actually the lack of I'm really killed him. So at least this year, you feel better about it. They have some injuries. They can they can fight through that the bullpen is a lot deeper. Justin wilson. Thanks. Work out pretty well for them. We'll see about that. But I agree with you. You can't. I mean, if you're gonna say, you know, I think he's just trying to energize maybe the fans a little bit. And maybe you don't maybe he feels like it don't teenage to believe that you're here. You're starting to see some of the players being quoted in port St. Lucie. How much they love it. But it also does add kind of a layer of expectation that maybe wouldn't have been there for him. And after the team and for Mickey Callaway who don't forget has an awful lot to prove as manager. Yeah. And I'm not so sure sold he is the guy Riggleman is going to help out on the bench by Callaway. Does have a lot to prove because you rode hard. I mean if they win fine. But when things go wrong, that's one advan- wagon is going to be tested here. Yeah. Seen him. You know, he got the shades going down to Florida. He looks. He looks the part. There's no doubt. And if they win he's gonna he's going to be a rockstar. If not then he made maybe he's gonna as you said regret saying some of that. But you know, what I don't really mind because this team. Has always I think there's always suffers from being afraid to to put themselves out there because of that whole maybe the whole little brother complex with Yankees. And all that. Now, really if you wanna if you wanna take that if you want to carry that true, though, you need to go out. Out and sign a Bryce Harper Machado. So to say, there's one thing to go. Do it is another. But I think he's trying to create set a tone, and we'll see if you know, if it turns out to be anything my actions speak louder than words. So I like what he's saying. But he's not really doing much back up which John Harper, or at least not the big big. That is the only misconception because I I've seen a lot of you know, Nash the national type guys given maybe giving him more credit than people in New York because he has made a lot of moves. But in truth, the payroll isn't much higher than it has been the last couple of years because if some of the money to get rid of so they could have done more. And I thought he you know, he has the he has the ear of the wilpon. Je I thought he was going to be able to push that payroll local higher than he has. So I mean, yes, she's made a lot of good moves. But if you're if you're watching it carefully, you know, he hasn't really taken a you. Each step forward in terms of payroll and things like that talking with John Harper. How about the Yanks harbor? They're gonna get Machado here. Okay. I don't know anymore. I I didn't think so. But the way this is going. What is going on with this? I was I was shocked to hear Jim Jimmy catch the other day on on SNL DNA y that and why he heard the Yankees made an offer two hundred twenty million if they've made that kind of offer then this is more than just say, you know, we'll take him Elliott our price. That's a pretty good. That's that's a pretty big investment. If they're going to go there. You would think that would have to be over what six years at least. Right. I would think probably more. But yeah, I mean, at least maybe. Yes. Seven maybe. So, you know, I don't know. We don't know if that's true. We don't know anything at this point. It's a mall. It's unbelievable here. We are in February. And we really don't know anything other than that beat the change. We've heard all along, and I still gotta have I still have to believe the Phillies are going to get one of those guys. So I don't know. But you know, that that changed my thinking I mean, I'm sure Jim that they will come out of thin air. So if if there's something to that. Maybe they are really laying in the weeds here and to me that would maybe. And if that's the case, maybe Cashman has as a trade in mind with the we've also got that could be a possibility is the rest of what they did doesn't make all that much to whiskey and lumbago as far as what they're doing with that infield. Do you dig harp? The you know, the fact that DVD's out for a while and maybe not gonna come back right away. And still be the player that he once was in equal overlooking that a little bit. I think at least myself we'll be back. He'll it'll be fine all star break, whatever. After a couple of months. Maybe he's not though. And if they do get Machado may not have to worry about that as much I know special player in his own, right? But at least you have Manny Machado at shortstop. Yeah. Or third base. If if the two of whiskey thing works, which I had on skeptical based on his injury history and his age. In fact, he hasn't hit really since you left, Colorado. But yeah, that's a you're right. There's no guarantee that any coming back. I mean he can shortstop here. So it sounds like. We come back from elbow surgery as a shortstop he has to be able to make that tro from the whole so to it's almost it's not quite obviously the level of a pitcher coming back from it. But it is a pretty big deal. So there's no guarantee there. I don't know. That's I mean, I think you could play you can play tour at short amazing puzzles me though, what did they what did they really doing air? The guy's a second basement. I really good defensive second baseman. But they're talking about him playing all over the infield. It's yeah. The whole thing is kind of weird with to whiskey and him. It's like the defense instead of the lefty baton Ilana that could be contacted allegany Murphy. I mean, what need DJ LeMay you for Murphy? Yeah..

"Hope you're enjoying it wherever you may be buckle up be careful out there drive defensively, although smart things that you can do and sometimes forget about and I'll feel better about it. Because you're listening to this show. And anytime I could put you to sleep, and you could drive into a bridge abutment, and I wouldn't want that to happen. So I'm counting on you to be smarter than I am which is generally something that I can count on. Not worry about. Well. It's gonna want in the Bronx long. They go. Hey, what's up regardless been one? Well, you know, I've been okay. Well, another to come up for air, man. Yeah. I appreciate that. No what I'm saying. Yeah. This nica head coach. Why? Carter mall. Linda, I? All the Russians. Can you think coming? No come on. Oh, man. I'm with you. I'm with you. I'm with you. Nothing. Nothing. Dancing around. Do you think something the other day about that? Tell you what it was. It was throwing the towel. You know, I was thinking the other day get ahold of somebody like let's say the guy yet do. What's his name? People. You come here. This is you're you're you know, what I'm saying. Why do you call because I think we're all I don't know. I just think we're all enlightened. Now, I think that we picked up some things that we didn't expect our Saturday night the brink and you brought it to them for free. So they're in their car, and they learn so much over that last ninety seconds. And I don't know that they'll recover from that. I don't know that sleep will come easy Mike and the Bronx is next on the fan. I mike. What's up, Mike? Good. I'm going to say. Oh. On the mall on those. You also you call. From. Money. But what I'm saying? What we do. Oh. What? Augustine? He was driving the ball. Extremely well. Taller. So they could trade him somewhere. Awful. There you go Mike Tim tebow. The answer to the Mets. Is it three? M might be my watch. Dave Bridgewater New Jersey next on the fan. Hi, dave. Hey, Chris, thanks for taking my call. Thank you for calling. What's up? I I was compelled to call. I will never call in stroke, your going to agree with you. So so I'm going to disagree with that. About Manny Machado. Okay. And why you said that about my call was that his last four seasons of the best four seasons of of any free agent. And and and there's no risk, and there's no risk in that signing. What I said was the most consistent that he does the same thing every year. And no free agent has ever been as consistent as he is. His numbers. I mean, you look at his numbers over four years. It's between thirty three and thirty seven home runs drives in between ninety five hundred hundred and five hits thirty five doubles every single statistic. He's missed six games in four years. So he shows up he puts up his numbers. He stays healthy. He can play the field. He is what he is. I mean, he he is. Nobody is what he is the way Manny Machado is so far in his career. Especially since he's twenty six. Well, let's say let's say this. He's no, Johnny hustle. No. He's not. But again, that's no that's not for debate. Either on the negative side. You're right. He's not. Okay. And he's put those numbers up in eight veritable Bandbox where three sixty four is the number on the west field wall. I need. So those numbers. I don't think you can believe those numbers is not three sixty four in Yankee Stadium. No, but bought the doubles and the production. And the the fact that his splits are pretty good from home and away are not it's not an indication. He doesn't do most of his work at Camden Yards. That's not Dan what I showed up in his statistics. He's very very predictable. He does have the downside of of you talked about with the hustle issues, and the attitude issues, I don't know how he'd be if he came here. And he thought he was going to win and things started to go south what he? A problem. So yeah, there's there's risk in terms of the character of the person, but not in terms of the production of the person. But. But. Dr Aaron judge's team. And you can't you can't bring this guy in for whatever you're gonna pay him to one hundred and twenty five million, whatever the number, I respect I respect that theory bring this guy Aaron judge esteem, I respect that. I do Dave. I do I respect that theory that if you're going to. Change and inject a star player into a team that just one hundred games, and they won one hundred games in an odd manner. With Gary Sanchez, not participating really with Greg bird. Not participating with Montgomery going out early with Severino up and down with Sanchez hurt. Missing fifty seven games all the things that went on one hundred games without Machado. You better be sure if you're going to bring in a potential prima Donna that it's worth it. And we want one hundred games without him. They could say so I agree with that. When you say that that it's Aaron judge is team. I'm not sure about that. But it is. It is a homegrown team. It is a prideful. We earned it came up the ranks ward, scientists free agents ward, scientists proven players. You know, we earned this. They're very few guys that they brought in fact, the guys they brought in our ellsbury, obviously Sobat the a long time ago. Chapman. You know, but it's a small list of guys they brought in to be stars. Most of these guys are either players with something to prove or young players like Andrew, Harr and Torres and judge and Sanchez and bird. Who thought their way up here? To try to get a spot. So when you're going to introduce a Harper Machado to a group like that. It's it's wise to be careful. I agree with you. It's wise to be careful, not ruffle feathers or create problems that you don't need to create. And I do believe this. And I do believe it will be the case in July as well. That the odds are in both cases and certainly clear and this off season. The Yankees are not the desperate teamer. The Yankees will make a good deal or no deal. They will not they will not be a team that says, oh, we had to do something. Oh, we better do something. The Mets were desperate. They needed. You know, they they had holes. I mean the team they started with last year as we've talked about with race and Gonzalez. And Wilmer Flores and. Todd frazier. And I mean, they just had. Kevin. And darnold had way too many holes on that team to start with. They tried to sell a Bill of goods to live around there pitching. And that's what the Mets try to sell every year is that we're going to have superior pitching. So doesn't matter. They couldn't live with that some Mets had to make moves and they did. And I'm cautiously optimistic. If the young kids come through in some manner that there'll be a very competitive team. But the Yankees are not in that spot. The Yankees are not forced to do anything. They can work not a thing until July fifteenth and reassess then and I anticipate that's what they will do. I anticipate they'll reassess. On July first or at the all star break and make their adjustments based on what they have at that time who's healthy and who's not and who shows up and who doesn't Gary Sanchez Greg bird, Luke void Miguel. Andrew har. Stanton. You know, what kind of production or they're going to get out of these guys? Lot easier answer that question July fifteenth than it is to answered right now. Jeff Springfield, New Jersey next on the fan. I jeff. Hey, Chris, how're you doing? Yeah. Like to give you a little different perspective on on the Mets. Okay. I've been a fan for about forty years. Very quick like many fans to criticize a lot of the moves that they've made by you know, if you look at what they've spent this winter on all the tangible thing. Build up. Build up the front office to build up their mind league system, even bringing the minor league system from Las Vegas back to New York and even putting up professional bench coach next to Callaway. These are all things that also cost money. If people are not looking at greed, and what what impresses me as in all the years. I've been a met fan. I feel like you're truly building an organization right now from the ground up building up foundation that could potentially lead us into the future. And I never remember a winter white like this. I think you're right. Jeff in that we talked about this earlier with the jets a little bit. Although the jets have a track record and van wagon. Does not. Wilpon does that wagon and does not. But it does appear for the reasons you mentioned that they are serious about revamping the entire organization, and I think met fans have to be somewhat optimistic about that in the end players play, and you need players and do they have enough of those. I don't know. But they don't know that they don't like you can't assume. As much as you can't assume that Conforto Nimmo and resort. Lonzo. All these guys are going to blossom. You also can't assume they're going to fail. Mcdill look good. Conforto Nimmo clearly had their moments Alonzo's a big question. Mark Rosario is also a question Mark, especially on the offense inside. There centerfield situation there catcher situation. There's a lot of question marks. But I don't think there's any percentage in assuming they're going to fail. I also don't think that it's. Logical to assume they'll all be good. The Antes assumed the if nothing else that burden Sanchez would be good. I don't think there's some. I don't think there's a met player in the group. I mentioned. That is looked at this February as optimistically as the Yankees looked at Sanchez and bird last February. Well, guess what the Yankees were flat out wrong. Bird, fizzled and Sanchez was hurt and fizzled. And neither neither one of them were a big factor in there one hundred win season. So that just goes to show you what? Predicting in prognosticating is worth not very much. Because for all that was made out of how important and Sanchez would be. They weren't. So for those of you saying, well, McNeil and Conforto. It comes down to McNeil and Conforto and Rosario. Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't. You know? I mean, that's what we're going to find out. But I think there's reason I think Jeff's right that that the Mets have made some good off the field moves that make it appear that they have a plan, and that's better than where we've been in a lot of other off seasons. More phone calls coming up on the nine o'clock hour here on the fan. Hockey fans joined greater Fort Lauderdale for the ultimate.

"Three seven sixty six sixty six to ten four hours of sports talk look forward to that got a couple of guests for you as well. So we're going to mix it up. We'll talk a little football. We'll talk a little hoops. And we'll talk some major league baseball. As well. As the night goes on probably start with baseball today. Only because you really have a, you know, it's. Listener's choice a little bit. We'll go anywhere. You wanna go? I have some real concerns about the jets in terms of how they're putting together their staff and the kind of freedom they're giving Adam gays, but. You know, really what does that amount to right now? It's just speculation. And you know, a little concerned about the discipline around the team, and and who's running what. But it's I call it overly telling or overly interesting right now, it's a eyebrow. Raiser when you look at Greg Williams. And his son being on the staff and Jovan the guy who is Adam cases. Father-in-law and also the guy who testified against in bountygate Williams now they're on the same staff, that's an IRA Zor eyebrow raiser. But you know, I don't know how much of a story it is. The axes are interesting just because. You want to know what it's gonna take to get them over the hump. The Mets to me are more of a speculation play only because and this is somewhat true for the AKIs. I've discussed this already a lot of young players who don't have a track record. You can't tell me you feel overly comfortable with what kind of season you'll get from resort aerial Alonzo. Conforto Nimmo it is it is a lot of young players without a lot of mileage behind them. And obviously there's good things about that. Jeff McNeil's same thing. You know, there's good parts of that as the Anki showed last year because we didn't know what Andrew Harwood bring the know what had a nice feel for glacier Torres. But didn't know what he would really bring Luke Voight burst on the scene. Much like Steve Pearce did up in Boston older player more traveled. But nobody was anxious to have Stephen Pierce. We all know what he did and evolved e was much travelled. And look what he did. So all I'm saying is there are a lot more questions than answers with both of these teams. And in large part that is because. They are relatively young teams. Not in the pitching staff went on the everyday roster. Both the Yankees and Mets are relatively young in key spots and their success or failure will likely ride on their young players. You know, if if McNeil and Conforto nemo Lonzo come through or three of the five. Do you're going to have an exciting season with that pitching. And what they've done over there. If they don't you're going to be disappointed, but trying to predict that now is very very difficult as it's difficult NC's and much less in February. And with the Yankees. Positions are up for grabs how they compensate for Dini's absence. And what happens the rest of the way in this off season combined with the messy -ness of ellsbury. And Clint Frazier with Hicks Stanton Gardner, and judge you got six outfielders there. You've got Gary Sanchez who's going to play some D H. So they're crowded and messy and Aaron Boone is going to have. You know in some ways too many options because. It's going to be a headache for him to pick out a lineup every day. The way it's shape now. So I guess the bottom line is a lot to be learned you have to love the grit of the islanders. You have to look at Saint John's today and say they are not ready yet because they just don't have enough options offensively. Yes, they beat Marquette. It was a nice win. And he saw Villanova lose. By a point today for their first loss in conference to Marquette. But but Saint John's and watching him play providence today, they just don't have enough options offensively. They just don't meanwhile, the grittiness of the islanders continues to be the lead New York positive story, and I get hockey takes a back seat. And I get the islanders take a backseat as the devil's due to the Rangers. But the islanders are a feel good story right now. And we are in February. We're starting to get into the time where you know, we've put ball behind us and people are going to start paying attention. And they got a good shot. And most importantly, and what you like about them. And what the Saint John's is trying to get to and. You know, what whatever your team is. Especially a team like the islanders or the Mets who are young and think they have talent. But they they need to believe in each other a little bit and not be so singular and the islanders do that. Now, they believe in each other. They go out on the ice expecting to win. And just having that. Mindset. In this market right now is makes them special because we don't have a lot of teams taking the court. They ice. Or the field. You know, that are sure of who they are. And and are ready to go. So I took my cap to the islanders have all year for. Ignoring the noise. Ignoring the fact that they're playing in obscurity and a lot of ways because we haven't had successful hockey around here for a while. And. You know, their second class citizens, which the nets. No that the devils know that it's just the way it is. It's nobody's fault. It's just how things play out, but to the people that follow them and the people that enjoy them and the people that like hockey, you gotta love their resilience and their passion and their. Their sense of we're playing in a vacuum. Let people say or not say whatever they want. We don't care. We know who we are. And we'll let them discover us as they go along if they don't wanna pay attention. They'll March or April. That's fine. We'll be fine. We don't need them. We're fine. And you gotta like that. You gotta like that about that. Rule changes in baseball a lot of talk about that this week. And a lot of debate about it. I think it's a silly debate. I think all rules rule changes are silly debates because you are addicted and you're not turning away from your game. All you're going to do is call me and complain about what you don't like. And that's fine. You should. But it isn't going to change the fact that you're gonna watch the game. Anyway. Name a rule change from any sport in your lifetime. That has forced you to turn away from the game that has been the straw that broke the camel's back for you as a fan. My bet is if you're honest, there isn't one there's no rule change. That's ever been made. That has made you stop liking a sport. And for my money there never will be. So whether they add the D H in the National League, whether they make them face three batters, even if they put a runner on second base in the tenth inning. Because they don't want the games to go more than twelve innings or whatever no matter what they do you will conform, and you will go along with it. And you will curse it and debate it with your friends and think it stinks, but you will not quit the game. So the risk for the league's in rule changes is way overblown in my mind because although they may be unpopular as we all know anytime you're talking about a little league. That's better than the apathy that comes in just putting it in your back pocket and forgetting about it, they'd rather. Have you mad at them than not care about them? And in the end, it'll all be forgotten. Anyway. Three years. Everybody will adjust and they won't be looking back. No American League fan. Boy. I wish the old days when they didn't have the D H. You know, there's no American League fan doing that. American League fan is adjusted to the H. They liked the D H and the ones that don't still watch the game. They wish they didn't have the D H, but they still watch the game. So. Although debate about whether it's good weather. It's bad because of. Rule changes is overblown. And here's the other thing that's important because I already have a call from somebody who's not watching the NBA anymore. Well, I guarantee you that guys over forty I'll take them right now. Just to find out Jim how old are you a forty three? There you go. I win. Well, I you know, when you said your name anything the NBA right away. I mentioned and if the D I would not like it. I enjoy I like watching pitches up there. I think it makes it unique. I liked the difference from the A L. What about what about the fact that the pictures don't hit anymore after high school? I get it. But it, but it's just something. You know, I grew up that way. And and you're probably right. What I what I turn off the TV and never watch again. No. But I would be telling my kid about issue Houston head and not be John about you know, what used to be able to hidden. Grammy drawn down the big eight. It's always exciting. And so yeah, no. I'd like to see it stay in place if it matters. No. And I think that that debate is fair Jim, and we'll take some more calls after the break. I just knew the Jim would not be young because. Because the only people that care or the people that remember the good old days in their mind. Right. The good old days is, you know, Billy Joel says these are the good old days. Right. I mean, and these are the good old days. These are the days will remember and. If you are. Casey or Connor green across the way. Here. Your frame of reference is not nearly the same as mine. So it's not like they were going to agree on a lot of stuff regarding that because they don't miss things. They've never seen. I don't miss how Babe Ruth Joe DiMaggio or Ted Williams played never saw them. So I don't know what about that time. I know a lot of people like the fact that they were more human that they had to work in the off season that they rolled the subway. Brooklyn dodger players rode the subway to the game that they didn't seem larger than life than they are today. But I don't know all of the things that people that watch baseball in the thirties and forties missed when the game went to the sixties and seventies right now, we got people that grew up watching the game in the seventies eighties and early nineties, and we're almost twenty twenty. So we've got a whole group of people that have a whole different set of values in their head and aren't looking at the game or any game the same way. They don't know what basketball would be like without the three. There are very few NFL now football fans under thirty that can ever remember the NFL without fantasy football as part of their life. But almost every one of them over forty can. And fantasy football has changed football and the way people consume it. So my point is just that these seem like a big deal, especially to older people, and we're all living longer and sports fans. You get. I mean, the reason that there's a lot of older, callers, and a lot of older passionate fans in part is because life is a rollercoaster. I mean, a lot of ways in terms of how things go when you're young you have time you become a big sports fan is part of what you do. Then you get in the middle. You're working. You've got a family. You got a lot of things going on. Everything's happening. You're trying to earn a living. You're you're still paying attention. But it isn't as big a part of your life. Now, you're fifty five and your kids are leaving the nest and you're winding down your career. And all of a sudden, you're back watching a lot of sports again. So it becomes more important again. Nobody's fault just the way it's role. So it's an interesting thing to think about as they make these changes. But make no mistake. We'll talk about this tonight. Never never lose sight of the fact that they're much more interested in entertaining. You then they are and bringing you fair competition. It's not close. It's not close the people that don't like the NBA or that like it lasts. I'm I'm among the people that like it less..

"On vacation, eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six is the phone number without any further ado, we'll go to the phones we'll start off with Marty in Westchester Monte. You're on the fan. Good morning. Pretty good. I like to talk about Frank Robinson. I'm a long time Yankee fan I go back to the early sixties. So obviously, I did say Frank Robinson play quite a bit. When it came over to the American League Indy. Just hard nose Paul play a greater breaking up the double play taking the extra base expected a lot of himself and a lot of his teammates. He was a cool later was really the final piece of that oil puzzle that put him over the top. But I wanna talk about one specific play vividly. Remember to stays with literally. One time watching the Yankee game on channel eleven it's been mid sixty six. Bad when they were horrible. Oil on top of the Yankees by to lunch. Ninth. The Yankees had two runners on base who I white comes up to the plate and he hits her drive towards the left field. I mean, I mean the right field stamps so short porch. And right looks like it's a game winning home run. Frank Robinson made a leaping catch. Great cat, and he fell into the Stanton. And it was in the stands for while the is called why out and that was the end of the game. It was a great cat. Also, a member after that row. Paco was a matter of time. He went ran out. He just went ballistic on the empire's is something that's riveted my mind, and he was around ballplayer. Frank robinson. And every bit the Plato's other guys who got more know who were looked at ahead of him like Aaron and Mays. I mean, he was right there with those guys. And he just doesn't get that. Same kind of the same kind of pub in my mind, the same kind of respect those guys got. Yeah. I might just imagine. It must have been so gratifying for my much. Mr. Steve Somers last night when they beat some some somebody in nineteen seventy must have been so good for him. Beat the team that basically gave up on like you said they thought he was an old thirty which was ridiculous out. Totally ridiculous. And of course, thanks for the call totally ridiculous and obvious as I said he had his better years really used that really defined Frank Robinson. With the Orioles in Baltimore. And it came pretty climbing that team pray came pretty close to winning four championships in you know, like a five year period. You know, they weren't too far away from that. And you know, and they ran into the miracle. Mets is sixty nine ran into Clemente pirates seventy one and a classic seven game series. And you know, that's close they came to win three World Series in a row. Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six Pat in the Bronx is on the fan. I pat. Joe how you doing good great point about Frank Robinson about what a great ball player. He was and it it is a shame that he doesn't get the respect that he deserves. Yup. You almost forget about them with those great players into sixties. You really do y'all mostly. He only really flies under the radar. Exactly. And not only that. And also if I may say one thing the Rangers twenty fifth anniversary celebration. Yes, I guess. Taught to believe it's twenty five. When you think about it? It's it's pretty hard to believe. But anyway, yes, it is tonight. You're correct. Are you going to the game where you're going to have any players on? You know, what I probably, you know, let me see you don't want to do. And I'm glad you remind me, Pat. Let's see if we can do something to get somebody on here with that. That's a great point by you. Great point by you. All right that I really appreciate that. That's right tonight is the celebration. It is hard to believe that it's been twenty five years since the Rangers one that stay calm. It's almost half way to the fifty four years that they they had to go without winning one. Right. I mean think about it. It's almost halfway. It's crazy did two years from now when when they get the twenty years is they wanted which I doubt they're winning one in the next couple years. It'll be actually be halfway to that. You know to the fifty four years may eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six Bobby in Staten island's on a fan. Bobby? Hey, jolly good, Bobby. What's up? Quick quick. Frank Robinson story and a Mets comment. Frank Robinson actually was signing out in White Plains about two months ago. Okay. And I have had the opportunity to to meet him. And I I never saw him play. I'm I'm forty years old. But what I got balls autograph? I hold them by the scene, and it was a clean ball. Right. Right. Up to the table. And I said Mr. Robinson we signed the ball. He said, why are you holding it like that? So I don't want to get my smudge thinking maybe that ball. And he snatch it out of my head coach you hold up by the senior grand apple. I was I was Lord, right? I thought it was such a cool thing. Because I mean, you've heard about what a personality he was. But he was just had a great way about him. And everything I've been hearing about from the people that have seen him play. It just makes me Meyer him, more and more. Unbelievable. And the Mets I had is about Bryce Harper. I hope Bryce Harper goes to San Diego. I'll tell you because we don't want to. Division. There's that. And also they have a glut of outfielders there. I still feel like we and after I know I know Brody made all these moves to these other complementary I'll feel pieces, but San Diego's got will Myers, and they have this other kid who I loved friend meal riots. I would love if they would be able to make a move if they're not gonna get Kathy Janos, which I don't think they often the Tigers to move one of those guys if corporate ends up in Detroit in San Diego. We'll see I kind of get the feeling of Don I hate to say that. I mean, look I understand what you're saying. You know, bringing these guys Castalanos the other guy. I want hopper. Machado. I know it's wasting my time. But. Yeah. I want to see him go to San Diego for like, I said added amidst division. I don't wanna see him in Washington and Philadelphia that's for sure. Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six degrade Richie in queens is on fan. I rich I in a little bit more involved with that the boss situation. Yes. Austin eye on on the ball. Before robinson. Yeah. That's right. That's right. That's right. Well, what is last full on grass and by the right? I never did. Ryan giles. I remember jobs was at the plate for the Mets who to hit was good yet. It was still in the days before. Right. Right. For three years below five hundred. Remember he was. Not well liked it all by the players. You know, I. He didn't have that ability to kind of with the place. But as far as a player. Yeah, you're right. I mean, he's still basically the basics still. It's a very good house other. Twenty. NBC solid hitter. Would I remember him living over the plate? We even got hit by pitches. Like one hundred and eighty times or something is career. It's a big number. It's a movie was really was a, you know. Could be thirty for him to deal with the next seven years. You always. And and just. Great, great and Billy. But yeah, I think he kind of came under the radar. Yeah. The radio under the radar because it was other guys that will high profile in his era. That's that's that's the deal with the mess. I Joe that giants got a shot at hopper. Good get them. If. The National League when Mets aren't getting them. I don't wanna see them in the National League. Right. And you take the Phillies, and obviously upgrade upgraded jokes. Still there. If there is solid to get. Close up. I liked it. I really do. I look rich. I think the Mets will be good. I like the moves they've made. I just don't know if they're going to be good enough. I mean, I think there'll be a winning team they can be eighty five or so when team maybe if things really went their way, maybe they could go out and win a division. I don't know. I dunno. I think a lot of things would have to happen. Any getting big us out of guys? Like Conforto nimmo's gotta have another tremendous year. You know, maybe Alonzo turns into the guy that you're looking for him to be at first base. Robbie Keno has a monster year comes back, and is the history was has really well has really been his entire career is a lot of different variables that rotation. Stays healthy has another great year. Syndergaard has a has a huge year. Wheeler has a big you and a Walker year of his contract. The bullpen is. I mean, there's a lot of things to happen and could happen, and they could be a very good team. But I still feel better about him. If they were going to sign Bryce off of but they're not gonna do that. Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six. Let's go to Matt Rutherford. He's on the fan. Hi, matt. Gill? How're you? Good, man. What's up? Hey curiosity. I check the check my phone. You see that the next where a eighty three and a half game is three and a half. Okay. Yeah. I think I'm gonna go. Yeah. I I tried to radio on. Yeah. Touch base on that. I hear you say you're gonna take a two on the over. I think I'll go beyond their goal against you a little bit. Are you are you? Let me just tell you this are you would feel that way. Like it. I like it two years ago. Let me just remind you this. Okay. Two years ago. I bet the over on the Yankees, and I think the over two years ago, and he lost the Houston the AL. And I forget what the overall. Yeah. Yeah. It was ridiculously low for the Yankees. It was like eighty two eighty three the they're going to win one at and I won't they did. I forget they won ninety something that year, and I wound up win win on that deal. And also that year I bet the jets who were all three and a half was the over on the jets because that was the year that was twenty seventeen year. There was supposed to never win a game. You know, suck for Sam all at oh. That'd be lucky to win one game and over was three and a half. And I'm like they're gonna win more than three more than more than three more than four games. They're gonna win at least for at least four games, and they wound up winning five which wasn't much, but I hit the over there too. So and last year, I was good at bet. The overall. Excuse me. Last year. I was going to bet the over on a Mets and initially. I was told I think it was I think the overrun was eighty two or something like that. And then the gentleman I deal with said now it's like eighty four away jumped up like a couple a couple of wins. And I said, you know, what I'm not going to do it. Now. I don't like it. Now. You know, it just wasn't worth it. He was like it was like negative money X amount to win to win less than what you were going to lay. So I said, you know, what I'm not going to do it..

"Twenty six on the fan. Chris more with you. Thank Russell Baxter is always good entertainment from him. Then good insight as well. I see from my friend how he carpet on Twitter. Eighty fifth birthday today. Eighty five how about that. Hey, we must be in the front row. This guy leads league in every offensive category, including knows hair. Well, this guy's sneezes. He looks like a party favor. This guy is a convicted felon, isn't he doesn't say that here. Well, it should Dominic east Rochester New York is next on the fan. Seymour. What's up Dominic? Oh, are you buddy? Good. What's up? Going hot stove. All right. Let's go a little hot stove. Let's go first of all. But first of all, you know, at the top of the hour. There's a girl that says your name. Yeah. She loves that girl likes you. There's no. Starter. Soccer. She's a celery Stocker baby. And the other thing is that you had a caller last hour she and and are you sure Mars would be fired. Oh. He was out there baby. Out there. Hi, jake. You know, those three beautiful words you're coming. Chris pitchers and catchers. Yep. Fans love it. Love it love real fans. Love it. Listen, I'm going to go on with the big boys Machado and per relative to the Yankees Machado. I hope it's a dead done deal. I wish that the angel sandiego. If he goes to San Diego, man, it's all about the money would have all about the money goes to San Diego. But you know, then then I'll put Chris before you get the Harper. Do you see that? Although there's only one year with Andrew how're obviously the guy looks like he can get him out. Right. Yeah. He's he's the foul line in. He hits the ball from from his head to his toes. You know? So you give me four hundred batch would Machado. I don't see any difference is a matter of fact, they see the higher batting average. The problem there is that Machado was proven it over four years as to being very very consistent. There is no safer. There's no safer free-agent Machado production. I understand, but we already got a bad boy under the team that catch your, hey, we don't need them. I know Chris is Yankee fans you do. But I like watching the play. I I think the Yankee fan does not want to lose and to her. What are you? What do you want to say about Harper? The thing what Harper is I Chris. This is one of those cases where I hope that that that cashes laying in the weeds in just waiting 'cause we need this left handed bat show show bad. And I think what happened here. Chris told me if I'm wrong cash clogged up with STAN. Or this to be a done deal. I literally a thousand percent agree with you. Absolutely not. I don't think he'd clogged it up. And I don't think. You know, I don't know how much forethought they gave to that. And I don't know yet. And this is the problem. I love the toxin baseball. And I'm going to be on tomorrow noon to two thirty as well. And we'll do some baseball tomorrow as well before the Pro Bowl tomorrow. We a lot of unproven guys in this market. Okay. We got a lot of guys who have shown ability, and this is medicine Yankees who have shown ability and shown talent, but have not proven over the long haul and in some cases because they haven't had a long haul yet, it's not their fault. They haven't had a chance. We're making assumptions about a lot of players in this city that aren't fair assumption to make. You can't tell me that you really have a great clue about how McNeil will be for a full year. You're not positive of what you're going to get from most of the Yankees. I mean in more. You're you're feel pretty good about Hicks. But you look at and do har- Torahs Voight. You got a lot of players who Gary Sanchez off of a year. Got a lot of players that are going to have to prove it. They're going gonna have to live up to the expectations. Conforto Nimmo McNeil. You're you're asking a lot of guys to do what they do. Over a six month period. Not to show hot flashes. Because almost all ballplayers do that at some point. So I think there's a lot more question marks going into the season. Then I think some of my brethren and the talk show world believe. I do think to dominance point that Andrew Harr is a bad ball hitter. And I really appreciate that. But it would maybe think of this was the Stanton conversation. And there is a tremendous percentage of baseball fans Yankee fans that worry that Stanton will never be a good postseason hitter. Because he is a guy that that hits bad pitching that the reason Stanton is so good is that he hits mistakes and that fewer mistakes are made by opposing pitchers and postseason baseball than in regular season baseball. And therefore, they worry that Stanton will never be a good postseason player. I don't think we've seen enough yet to make that assumption. But I understand it. And it's a big problem. If that's the case. But. Dominic point again, if the Yankees have not at not gotten Stanton last year would Harper be a Yankee. Now, I believe he would I believe he would Hayes Bethlehem Pennsylvania next on the fan zoos. Thanks for taking the culture. What's up? I I think I may have a solution for that that misquote issue before. I was that the question have you ever seen a game or Buddha for a team that ended the game? They lost because of terrible unbelievably bad call that happened in the trenches. Game or somebody was mugged while I I mean, I don't remember it off the top of my head. But occasionally they catch it. They catch up because of replay those goals are a good good reminder that we would never know it without replay. We would never know that. That's why they lost the game. And now when we see a call like that. We take it. For granted. For example, Brady's roughing the passer. Call phantom roughing the passer that he got. In real time without replay. No one would ever talk about that play because they wouldn't know and they see the arm go down, and they would assume. Yeah, it looked like he got him with his arm. I saw it. But boy. Replay. And you're sure that's my point. Because not only it happens by by terrible horrific. Ms Colby play. It happens all over the field. In fact. Every game. What we spied a couple of plays where they can say this an agreed no doubt over no doubt. No. The only difference with that play that happened in the in the in the played happened. They gave that miscall on them. I mean on the on the latest is that is that it happened in a big game. That was like some parable singular. Right. I mean, it was singular zoos you can call me back. I'm up against an update you it was singular. In other words, early only two players in the picture. So we don't get that very often. There are only two players in the picture. There was. All the focus was on that play every person watching was watching that play. There was nowhere else. You could be looking as a fan. That's why that play got so much play that. And of course, the timing of when it happened. More of your phone calls coming up on the fan. "Hi, john. Hey, guys. How're you doing? I may have some encouraging words few Joe what's that? Well, you know, you may not consider me most foremost expert in pro football, right? But but I do happen to be in Miami a lot I've seen Adam gaze up close. Okay. And I can report this to you. We might be slightly better than Todd Bowles. John is a tremendous. This is what makes you great John. Well, I in my hand. Out in a remote location and. Inside knowledge, John that is you know, what that may be true. I'll agree with that state. Yes. I will. I will give you as the edge over balls. Great call John John you confuse me a few days ago. And now it's starting to make sense. Because you you tweet out great information, you know, that Brian dodgers interested in is three or four teams. And you mentioned the mats. And my first reaction is I think John wrote that incorrectly. Why would the Mets be interested in a guy who spent his entire career at second base? They traded for what's going on those your obviously ended up signing with Washington. But then they get Lowry who has more versatility than Brian dosier coming off a better year than dosier. And it's starting to make a lot of sense that the Mets are giving themselves more versatility that protecting themselves at first base. Maybe McNeil plays more outfield. So that was their intention it'd being interested in Brian dosier for that Lowry kind of spot. Yes. Absolutely. I thought and I think we discussed it a little bit that they need a little coverage at first and third because we can't be. Sure and Alonzo yet do not we don't know whether he's going to develop into a viable starting first baseman and to be fair. I mean dot Frazier. We all love him. He's fantastic personalities from New Jersey got power, but he did not have a good year last year. So I think they needed some coverage at first and third and allow gives them that I better better even better than dosier more versatile, obviously had a better year last year, and you know, two year deal. I think it's I think it's a good move by the Mets. Yeah. No. I think it's really is a very good move. And so let me ask you this question. 'cause I'm I'm hi, I'm very I'm very optimistic about the Mets, even though I know you're not going to sign Bryce Harper or Manny Machado. Am I in a match would you go over eighty three and a half? Which is the overrun the number. I would. Yes. Okay. I would okay. It's tough to make that call because of the uncertainty. What the Phillies and the national stroke because you you play of nineteen times a year. So impact I think what those two teams do. All right. Well, figure one of them's probably getting Bryce Harper at this point. We we don't know that for certainty, but I would say the chances are probably pretty good are the the Mets Don because I think centerfield still feels like a whole with lagaras, Ken Brockton. I've been saying McNeil should play a hell of a lot more outfielder. Maybe Conforto Nimmo get time in center field is that and they did sign Rajai Davis and Gregor Blanco. But I doubt either makes Braxton I mentioned Braxton attention to John pay attention to a ball. My knowledge, you know, what he's doing? He's like he's putting these elite. He's thinking about how he's going to make the play on this weekend's divisional. Sure. Yeah. I don't know. How I did. I did. Okay. On that college game is to last week though. Right. Yeah. You pick lumps. You did pretty good. I got points, right? Three hundred you don't get any bonus for that the other game. I don't know. I can't remember because I got two and a half or one and a half. I don't remember. So I don't I don't about now. You got to Seattle and Dallas. So I don't know. Seattle. Yeah. You. I'm on a roll game. But they covered the number batteries. Right. Joe? That's very that's a fair point. You're the Mets done in the outfield or can you still see them making a play for an AJ Pollick? Or Adam Jones. I could see them. Well, no, I think they're probably done. I really do. I do you know, I think they've done. Great work. You know, they tastic in center. No, not fantastic. She's been getting a note in here. I have to tweet this. So. News rice off signs. No, no, Mookie Betts signed. So I gotta do that. Sorry guys might get doctor after I did that big announcement. Then I'm coming back to this week. I might get duct now. Announced with you coming back there. Well, I don't have Twitter. So Evan was aware that uh? The paperwork hasn't been filing. That's what that's what that right. Every announced.

"Sixty six is the phone number hit, the one o'clock CNBC comes your way. Don't Kramer, Ernie Acosta on the other side of the glass. Of course, a big football Friday probably best football weekend in a year with the divisional rounds. Call banks will join us at eleven. It is regular weekly spot. We'll have one of the assistant general managers of the jets will be joining us today, mini meta. He'll join us about the eleven forty and we appreciate the jets given us permission to have many shine. And then we'll do a little baseball as well. With John Hayman. We'll talk about the big met signing Wayne will Manny and Bryce ever signed a contract, bro. Our you. I'm very good because as much as I'm still angry about the jet higher. Michael ownership doesn't act like a big market team. And that does frustrate me, and they should be in on guys. Like, Bryce Harper. Manny Machado goes without saying I was very pleasantly surprised yesterday. Larry because I signing. Well, it took me a while to try to make sense of it. Because he's a good baseball player. We'll start there. I know he was represented by Brodie van wagon. So people like to bring that up and sure I'm sure familiarity has a little bit to do with it. And he is thirty four years old. So it's not like he's twenty five, but he's coming off a year last year in which he was really good job in ninety nine runs at twenty three home runs had an old PS over eight hundred it really good year last year. 'cause I showing the Eastern Conference standings NBA, look who's in the seven spot. We dropped from six though, lousy say Miami. You better look at that. Pretty good. I know I love I love it the way I'm sorry. I didn't meet the jump is the biggest thing for the pistons loss. So the net right is growing. Are you go, but jed Lowrie is a good baseball player. It's a simple statement. And it's true because it's backed up by his career is a good baseball player. But jed Lowry's been a second baseman for the Oakland as he was an all star second baseman for the Oakland A's. So I started to think well, what the hell they gonna do. I mean, they side Robinson can. But I think what they're doing. And I like this is instead of settling in centerfield by signing an Adam Jones, who's probably under a decline by signing. AJ Pollock who's never healthy. They are saying let's get quality baseball players. Let's grow the versatility. And let's just go that route instead of settling in center field. And I think what this also does. And I said this year last week think gets even more. So today last week Jeff McNeil is going to be more of an outfielder. Right. And he isn't it? Center. Well, I would probably say a quarter outfield and then Conforto Nimmo play center because I doubt you're moving a guy that has very little experience in the outfield to center we've seen Conforto played center. We've seen nibble we have and you've got two guys right now who when they're not starting are very good defensive players to come off the bench in kiam Braxton and one lagaras, this is a very versatile baseball team where you can every single day there's gonna be a different lineup, and there's going to be a different defensive alignment, and it also gives you protection against Peter Alonzo not being any good because we don't know what your Alonzo. They also might might want to keep them down for the service type thing to well. I hate that. Well, I know. To deal with that. Yeah. This is a business with the Mets. You're right. A few weeks ago someone called up and asked that question to us. Instead of you worried about Lonzo not being here on opening day and my answer because of construction on the roster was he's going to be here on opening day. Now, I'm not sure exactly because they've given themselves the ability to say, all right? We're gonna play and figure out how they want to align. It let's say Larry at first base. Robbie Canoas second. I'm Ed Rosario at short Todd Frazier. Jeff McNeil third or maybe a different alignment they've given themselves that ability to play someone other than Alonzo Dom Smith at first base. So if we were ripping I was rubbing Brody that there are too many ifs on this team. He's eliminated one of the Fs. Yeah. By bringing in lower yet. Then if it doesn't work at first base negative. If you've got a guy like Lowry if Todd Frazier continues to stink like last year or can't stay healthy. You've got your Lowry. You've got Jeff McNeil. You've got two guys defensively in center field garrison Brockton who made it you don't have to rely on if McNeil's play and left, let's say and Conforto is playing center. So I really liked them. Would I prefer them sign Bryce Harper, Paul? Of course, I mean that goes without saying, but jed Lowrie is a good baseball player. And so for that standpoint. How can I be upset that they signed a good base? He's a good player. I he's thirty four twenty eight Greg. So when he's twenty nine, but I mean, still, I look I sorta move, and I was like, wow. That's a surprising move. Well, I remember a few days ago. John Hayman will join us. Well, John Heyman said the Mets are interested in Brian dosier and my first reassigned with the nationals inning ended up signing a one year deal with Washington. And my first reaction was oh, okay. Bryan. Brian dosier has less versatility than jed Lowrie. Brian only experience a second base. If the Mets would assign them they would've treated in the same way as Lowry, but he'd be learning new positions Lowry's played third. He's actually. Sure, I was very surprised she we drove in almost two hundred runs slash ninety nine. Rod a great year. There's a reason why the Oakland A's had success one of which was Chris Davis was their bullpen. Right. And another factor was jet. La. And he does it have to gold twenty three ninety nine. No, no. If he goes fifteen seventy eight. An every day be contributes to team that you know, makes the playoffs. How about that? That's that's that's what that's what I'm looking out with the Mets. I think they can make the playoffs issue. Why not why not for what they've done which I love is. They've given themselves such depth especially in the infield that if Todd Frazier. They've got the Bill Robinson can right now. The starting lineup to you right now. Batting order. But how do you see the starting lineup? Breaking right now is the catcher. Well. Yeah. Obvious obviously first basis who right now, I think right now, I lean towards one of the veterans that it wouldn't be Alonzo Dom Smith, unless Lowery could all what I don't know which way they're going to line it up like who they feel more comfortable playing first base. But I think you're looking at a four man infield of jed Lowrie Robinson can Allama Desario ratio on this Alonzo goes to camp, and tears it up any outfields McNeil Conforto in against a right handed pitcher. I'd lean that way, I'd lean that way, but again things can change so quickly if keenum Braxton's hidden. Got about him Garissa sitting. I think there's going to be a different line of every day. And it's going to drive us nuts. Sometimes because we're going to say why is he starting this guy? Right. You're going to be looking at a different configuration almost every single day. Whether it's playing the match ups, whether it's lefty righty. I would say it's who's hot. But we know that managers. They don't care about hotness. They don't look at that. But I think it protects them from Lonzo not being ready now, I hope Alonzo is ready because Peter Alonzo's got star potential, and he's young and be for the next five years, and that's great. So ideally, I'd love Peter Alonzo to go to Florida hit three fifty hit eight home runs Butch huskey style. But then unlike Butch huskey actually at the major league level and win a job. I'd say Aaron judge Aaron Jones had the winners right field job two years ago, which is odd to think about Peter Alonzo shoots only be Aaron judge compare them Darren judge, I'm just comparing two hundred Jody aspect that. He has to have a good spring training to win the job. Not that you're gonna turn to Aaron judge the baseball, right? But I think they protect themselves in case he doesn't, and I think that's to me. The most interesting storyline now going into spring training in a few months. Peter Lonzo what does he have to do to get that first base job in the guy? We forget about and I know why we forget about him is down Smith like he's also a fat. It's easy to forget about Don. Smith. The forefront of my mind Dom Smith. But if Dom Smith in spring training hits the cover off the ball who knows maybe he's getting time at first I'm not confident about him. I'm not either. But they they'd given themselves depth. That's what they've done like they're back that their backup shortstop can even be Jedi lower your ideal. Right. I've taken a few calls already saying well who their backup shortstop to yesterday? It was Louis ski or may now. For a short period of time. It's jed Lowrie now. Hopefully, they make other moves. I think it'd be great to add another arm out of the bullpen. I think it'd be great to add another arm to give themselves rotation depth. They did add Hector Santiago a few days ago, who's just got assigned to John. Yeah. Relief pitcher, that's another minor league contract. Yeah. Because if you look at his success over the last few years bouncing around the league, he is a quality left handed relievers. So now you've got to him in Zamora who could potentially make this team. I prefer Andrew Miller Miller is not New York cardinals. Right. So that's not happening. But it's another nice under the radar move. And brought he's been very active. I mean, you look at home. He's done things. Bryce, but he has done. Well, that's the separation. Right, right. I like individually what he's done. I think the Mets are a better team today than they were at the end of last year. It definitely would they've done is. They've added a lot of professional hitters to this lineup. And I love that. And I think that's great. But from an ownership perspective, they continue to be and have that mentality of being a mid to small market team. So that's always going to be frustrating. But like you said you just want to win that. And I think the Mets capable of what I do to the big question is going to be for the teams inside this division are any of these teams adding Manny Machado such as the Philadelphia Phillies are the Phillies adding Bryce Harper are the nationals retaining Bryce operating that's going to go a long way, the telling us the balance of power at least going into the season for this division. But as of right now, I think the Mets have improved more than anybody in this done a good job. I I completely agree with that. I think they really have. I'm optimistic about the Mets going into here. I really am. I got to see what the over under is this year. Maybe I'll dabble with that. You have to be determined. It's I bet you it's going to be over eighty one though. I would agree about eighty. I'll say eighty three and a half. Yeah. I think there's that's what I'm going to say for the Mets. There are a few encouraging things number one the off season. Obviously they've improved themselves. They've added a top notch closer. Ed, wendy. A bunch of professional hitters the bullpen with familiar, but I think there are a few other things that was already giving you optimism even before Brody took the job. And that was the pitching obviously at the top that we saw last year. Jacob degrom take his star to a whole 'nother level, obviously. And we saw Zack Wheeler finally. We went out in the lobby. Definitely did. And I think there's always this this optimism with Noah Syndergaard. Who'd he wasn't bad last year. He wasn't healthy to all year. But he wasn't what maybe we were like them to be what he was pretty good pitcher last you hope that he can be the Zack Wheeler from last year. Jacob degrom front last year. Sorority had that with starting pitching. And then you've got out good baseball players. And so I I liked that movie made me happy now he's gonna move. So thank you to Brodie van wagon for at least for a little bit changing the mood that I had concerning the jet head coaching. Thank you, very much change it that much. But I mean, he did a little bit. There was a glimmer a little bit of a glimmer. Yes. We'll talk more baseball later with John Heyman. We mentioned McNeish meta will join us in the eleven o'clock hour, Carl banks will talk to us. And of course, we'll preview division weekend. In the National Football League. It has been in going Roberts on a football Friday. No an ad from save money on car insurance. By bundling home.
