"Going at it all depends, apparently where we have an economic downturn. Then they just change the rules. And then a lot of very little of the lottery money goes I read on in one article now this was back several years ago that the amount of money that the lottery accounted for only about one percent of the money allocated for education that has changed the economy has gone back up. But it's still a officials say twenty to thirty cents of every dollar spent on Powerball tickets goes to public education, but that's not all of the lottery in two thousand fourteen fifteen the lottery, raise more than one point three nine billion for schools. Yeah. But there's not as much money going to fund public education as people think that that there is about eighty percent of the lottery funds. The does go to schools ghost, Hugh k through twelve public schools. The rest goes to community colleges. California State University the university of California systems, they say that lottery revenues have been going down. I don't know if that's true with the Powerball thing now because it, you know, the jackpots are so ridiculously high, but that's ridiculously high because there are a number states who are involved in it. So they say lottery revenues are going down. That means that the money that the lotteries able to provide the schools is going down eight hundred eighty eight ten which gets us off track. What we're talking about is free community college. I think community college should be free. I think all college should be free in the state of California. But I'm excited about these bills because it seems to me that it is a step in the right direction. And it looks like for kids who are attending a college in two thousand twenty and beyond if you are willing to go to. Community college. You will very likely be able to get the first two years for free. Let's go to let's see Walter who's calling from Castro valley. Hey, Walter, welcome to G. Oh, thank you for taking my call. You bet. Walter when I came to California in sixty four and nineteen sixty four. Yeah. Community college free. So they don't have a problem finding out how to implement the program. Just look back in time. Yeah. Just do what you did before. Then you go look. Look, we need to do is hold up politicians. They have stolen money and put the money in the jump on and use it in ways that that that that that that you did I I can't drink it. What what they have done with the money, but is all about money. And it's all about the way they want to spin it. Thanks, pat. When you're talking about money, you're talking about revenue, and then you're talking about expenditures. And of course, you know, the revenue generation of the amount of taxes that are paid in California. We've got prop thirteen property taxes property taxes have historically funded public education with proposition thirteen people didn't want their property taxes to keep escalating outta sight. Where in some cases, people were losing their homes because the property taxes became so ridiculous with the increase in property values. So prop thirteen came in. However, one of the unintended consequences of prop thirteen was the commercial properties. That were also covered in that. And so there are still fixes that need to be made to what happened in prop thirteen. But there was an awful lot of revenue that was lost that otherwise would have gone to fund schools, and I'm assuming that those property tax. Axes didn't just fund your local public schools. I'm assuming that those taxes also went to fund higher education. Am I wrong about that? Eight hundred eighty eight ten is the number. Let's go to jewels in San Francisco gills. Hi, welcome to Keiji. Oh, thank you for taking my call. A couple of comments to the first is that I think is a great idea for the community colleges to be pre especially on a need base scale. I think it should be more than one year. Full time is very often the people who have the greatest need are the ones who also have to work this up lament that income. It's really hard to take twelve units. So maybe you say, whatever the equivalent. Twenty four units are paid for by this binding, I think if the funds are earmarked should go for sure for that. Not just you know, he couldn't go and other squash. By whatever it is. It doesn't have to be thinned every roll over. But there's a minimum amount of students that get the funding and that was a little bit more fair for all because it's really great. I used to teach at a community college is that you can do all your education requirements that you know, for the state colleges at the community college. Important thing to do is certified that general education requirement because if you switch colleges different colleges have jigger Claremont different years shorts have different coach. Critique a break that might reset on you. So you gotta unity college for two years be requiring certified in California. At least when I was there in used to transfer over to as you mentioned a four year college guaranteed efficient with a reasonable GPA. They had to make space for you. And then if you wanted to go onto something here, that's fine. But it gives you a really good solid education and the class sizes are much smaller in community colleges and one of my favorite things ever and their local usually right in your community. And which is why they're called community colleges, which is so fantastic. And you know, what you said just it just kind of clicked with me just now that's what you do. You get the general education requirements out of the way, then you transfer to the. University. That's going to the best for for what you want to specialize in for. What's your major going to be oh, it makes so much available online too? Because again, the people who have the greatest you also probably working fulltime job have kids. It gives you a greater opportunity to go to the credit is cool. That would be my suggestion in my input. Thank you so much for taking my call. And thank you Jules. I think that your input in suggestions, are are terribly valuable. And this is the kind of information that should be passed onto our lawmakers has they're implementing this sort of thing. Now, I don't want it to be needs. Based though I am going to differ on that you might wanna give priority. If priority has to be given to any students, I think that room should be made for everybody who wants to do it. And I don't think it should be need space. I don't think it should be a scholarship. I don't think you should have to qualify for it. I think it should be just like it was previously. Our callers who went to college in the sixties where tuition in California colleges at that time was virtually free. That's what I'd like to get back to. And again, the the reason if pay it paid for itself it made California's stronger, it was an investment in the individuals. But it was also an investment in the state, and that's what I think is is absolutely tremendous. And that's what we need to get back. Back. Hey, listen. I I wanna do something before Christmas is over because I'm I'm not going to be back on the air until after Christmas. I'll be in for Ethan Bearman the day after Christmas. And then after that for two days, I'll be in for chip Franklin. I won't be back next Saturday. I'll be back on Sunday on this program. I'm on my own show. So that said. There's a song Christmas song. That's just as popular as all get out it it's an old fashioned song. Sung by Dean Martin. And I have like been around my house singing thing insane because I love to sing Christmas carols. And so I sing them at my kids, dry some crazy. And so this all of a sudden has become very controversial the four the controversy arose all over the place and people are standing up to defend the song. I had it on the car radio, and my daughter who hadn't heard of before was listening to it. Now, my kids are thirteen years old. You may know, I have I'm sorry there. Fifteen years old sorry kids, their fifteen year old triplets. And so I'm playing this song and my daughter. Sophie looks at me, and she goes mom that song is really creepy. And I didn't think about it until she said that. And then I started listening to all the lyrics all of the words of the song. I think she's right. It's really creepy. So when I hear people now who are standing in defense of this song. Kind of takes me back. Listen to it. Listen to this song. And tell me if it is still an appropriate Christmas on there have been some radio stations who had banned it. They're no longer playing it. And then there are listeners to those radio stations who stand up in arms, and and they start condemning political correctness political correctness. Well, you know, sometimes political correctness is appropriate. That's why it's called correct. And I want you to listen to it and tell me what you think. Here. It is. I really can't stay. Gotta go. Love son evening has..
