Trump Administration Imposes Deadline For TikTok To Be Sold

"Chinese company that owns tiktok is under a little bit of pressure from President Trump and is considering selling you the president says, he thinks tiktok is a threat to US security even given the company kind of deadline by set a date of around September fifteenth at which point is going to be out of business in the United States. Now, over the weekend president trump talked to the CEO of Microsoft, which is a potential buyer here NPR's tech reporter Bobby. Allen is with us this morning. Hi, Bobby Hey Rachel. So take a step. Back, Bobby, why does president trump have an interest in tick talks US operations in the first place? Well, trump never mentions TIKTOK without saying China to talks parent company. Bite dance is based in Beijing and trump says that means tiktok could be harvesting the private data of millions of Americans and sharing with the Chinese Communist Party now whether that's really happening is up for debate but trump, it's black or white right? It's took talks either stays chinese-owned and will be banned or the APP is bought by an American company like Microsoft and can stick around. Right. So No L. Mention this Microsoft CEO talk with President Trump over the weekend about the possibility of requiring Tiktok but that's rather remarkable. Right? Like why did the CEO of a private company feel the need to run this by the president right and that's because the trump administration including trade adviser Peter Navarro has been peering on Cable News and saying the White House does not trust Microsoft. And while it looks like right now that Microsoft has won back the confidence of the White House. The company just really wants to make sure absolutely has the blessing of the administration before trying to take Tiktok over and a big part of Microsoft's pledge is to ensure that no TIKTOK data ever leaves Americans shores. Yes to your question. The president getting intimately involved in a private company merger talks is not typical but talk right in APP known for dance challenges and Prank Videos. No last finding itself as the latest political football in Washington is dealing with just that. Can we close by talking about the business end of this like what's in it for Microsoft to buy Tiktok? What do they get out of this potential? So we hear the word Microsoft when we think of the company many people still think of windows, right? It's not exactly the hippest image in the world, but Microsoft does own xbox. It's one actually one of its most successful businesses and there's a lot of crossover potential between gamers and tiktok users not to mention bringing on tiktok would allow Microsoft to go toe to toe with facebook. Which sees talks huge popularity and is pretty envious.

"Two, thousand, Seventeen Book New Book just released a capital of Freedom Co. authored by Shonda wary with a forward by Senator Mike. Lee. Tell us a little bit about your book. Well, I give tours of the capital in the evening and point out different historical features and I've gone with various historians, and there is the architect of the Capitol, the House, this story and others and learn as much as I can about the capital and Each of these features could be an architectural feature or a statue or just even a story that occurred in capital has a great constitutional meaning and symbols to. To it, and so I talk about the Constitution and the book I talk about the way that the progressives are moving the country in a in a direction that is contrary to our founding principles and frankly the values that made us great, and so I think people will enjoy it because it has some interesting historical facts in it and to it it really talks to the cancel culture that's going on right now in in America. I, wanted to get your take as well. On the tick tock situation. There is no deal with Microsoft. President trump has threatened to ban TIKTOK. What's your take? Well to talk is a an APP that is has been created by the Chinese and is used by the Chinese Communist Party as an espionage tool, and we have to be aware in this country that China and Russia in particular are gathering intelligence on Americans and they are hacking into every database that they can, and they're. They are preparing and I don't suggest that this is on the horizon but they. They are preparing in the event of conflict. They will be able to engage in a cyber attack on America and hoped to shut down the American economy and and gain a military advantage in. So doing, we've gotta be aware that the TIKTOK and apps like that are being used for that purpose and I. Think President absolutely has the right and perhaps the obligation to stop China from gathering intelligence on. UNAMERICAN services. the house actually voted to ban tiktok on federal devices. During a speech, you called Tick Tock of very serious national security, a threat and again as you just reference could be used in a cyber attack against our republic. No, I gotTA. Let you go. No, know you've got a lot going on, but you're going to break out the popcorn and watch that each documentary, the Swan. Tonight. Are. You Planning on watching it tonight and and I'm also planning on on signing some books. I hope people enjoy the book also and and thank you for the time Gal I appreciate being on with Certainly appreciate your time as well. Representative Ken Buck Eight fifty now, thirteen ten,.

Microsoft, TikTok officials in White House talks to prevent total ban

"Tiktok is a short form video social media platform, extremely popular with Gen, Z. and millennials during the global pandemic the APP outpaced instagram in of download eating the two billion mark back in April. If you know any teens or adults lockdown and board, you're probably familiar with the platform. Tick Tock has over two hundred, million users us but it's owned by Chinese company Bite Dance, which is where most of the political drama begins United States Secretary of State. Mike Pompeo has consistently voiced concerns about the APPS ties to the Chinese government back in July he lumped Tiktok in with wall way in terms of national security. We are now evaluating each instance where we believe that US citizens data that they have on their phones or in their system or in their healthcare records. We want to make sure that the Chinese Communist Party doesn't have a way to easily access that president trump this weekend suggested banning the APP in the US. We're looking at Tick Tock we may be banning talk. We may be doing some other things that are a couple of options. And Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has confirmed that the department's Committee on foreign. In. The US is reviewing tiktok citing. National. Security concerns, he spoke to ABC over the weekend. I do chair Syfy, which is the committee on Foreign Investment on the United States I've said publicly that it's under review I will say publicly that the entire committee agrees that Tiktok cannot stay in the current format exit risks sending back information on a hundred million Americans. Amid, Washington's focus on national security Microsoft announced that it made by tick tock or at least part of it. Over the weekend the tech giant confirmed that it's in talks to acquire the tick Tock Business in Iraq Canada, Australia, and New Zealand and then it's working with the government deal.

"As soon as Donald Trump got elected, they change it to democracy Dies and darkness. Democracy dies in darkness. Because Donald Trump is obviously evil had to say that they are the shining light, Tio. To protect us from that evil and then they've gone on to perpetuate the Russia hoax. For example, for three years, the democracy dies in the editorial board meeting Realistically But they have a headline today that is something to behold. And there's a picture of a whole bunch of cute Chinese girls standing in front of Ah, statue of Mao. It's kind of like carved like this Sphinx. And there's there's young Mao with hair flowing, so you know, it's young mouth has old Mao didn't have no hair. He still liked young girls, so I would imagine he would appreciate that. They're cute, young Chinese girls getting their picture taken in front of a big carving of him. The headline. From the paper that says democracy dies in darkness is Trump views China's Communist Party as a threat. Young Chinese. See if As a ticket to a better future. Okay. All you gotta do is give yourself over completely to the state. Cui has all power. To the state become a member of the Communist Party, and then maybe you can have yourself a bright future. In China. Well, yeah. In the communist countries, the only ticket to a bright future Is the Communist Party. Why? Because the Communist Party of Press is everything else. It's pretty pretty obvious if all you had to eat was Greul. In the country. And as well the ticket Tio healthy life for a ticket to living is gruel. Well, Yeah. Okay. Thanks for pointing that out. Geniuses. This is the paper of record in Washington, D C. The nation's newspaper because they fight for that title with The New York Times is the young Chinese. It is a ticket to a better future. They also don't mention that the young Chinese don't actually have any access to contrary information. They don't have anything has nothing else for them. To compare it to. There's no. You know, while I was on Twitter today, and I couldn't help but notice that other people are much freer than we are. No, they don't allow that. They they censor what you can see. They don't allow you to just Google Freedom. If you try to search the word, freedom, liberty or anything like that, you're gonna get a pop of screen on somebody's government computer and they're going to go where we need to go and look into this person. So yes. In China, the Communist Party is in fact, the ticket to a better future because every other ticket is to a gulag. Of stagnation. Whatever you got, they won't give you an education. They won't give you give you a forced abortion. That's about it. So, yeah, it kind of makes sense that the Communist Party would be a ticket to a better future in a communist country. Somehow this is news and important and worthy of reporting in the Washington Post. And it's mainly because right there in the first part of the headline Trump views China's Communist Party as a threat. China's Communist Party is a threat they do have for all the whining. In this country that we hear from Democrats and all the Democrats in the streets, burning things, smashing things beating people up. It's were horrible country where an imperialist country And we're not an imperial ist country were not out taking over anywhere. We're we're not going to look to make Afghanistan, the 51st state or Iraq, the 52nd state. We're not looking to conquer lands at all. China is China is China is trying to expand. China wants to take over as much of the planet as humanly possible. They have designs on Taiwan. They still consider Taiwan There's which is absurd, but the rest of the world sort of plays this little game with China. It's one of the dumbest games Because they're all afraid we don't want to offend China. We don't want to offend China because we want to trade economically with them. And because they have a 1,000,000,000 1/2 people a huge, huge market over there. We gotta sell them our wares. The problem is they're taken. All the money is their manufacturing a lot of our wears, so they're just selling it to them. They're making it there, then selling it to themselves. That generates a lot of revenue for the Communist Party that keeps the Communist Party in power over there. The Communist Party, then uses that money to arm itself to help aid in its imperial ist IQ goals. So the crap you buy that's made in China is helping the Chinese Communist Party. Well companies over there a ways Is worth a fortune and Jack Ma, but I can't remember what company he runs. It's like the Asian Amazon or whatever. Yeah, they're rich. He's rich. But the Chinese government is richer. The Chinese government. You get to keep as much as the Chinese government will allow you to keep that you suck up inside all up to the Chinese Communist government probably helped your case and being able to keep more of your money. But you are still essentially a ward of the state owned by the state. And they have designs on their building an island in the South China Sea, which is an important shipping lane. They're not building that because they just want to see if they could do it there doing that. Because one day they might want to stop all trade or tax, all trade or whatever control the flow of trade through the South China seas and that will be a good base of operations for that they actually do have Imperialistic goals. Like I said, they want to take over Taiwan and the rest of the world pretends that there's just one China was just one. One China which is incredibly stupid. We're sucking up to this country and denying Taiwan Membership in the United Nations and people don't realize that up until Nixon And the famous Nixon opening of China by only Nixon could go to China. Because of his anti communist bona fees. Until that point, China was in the United Nations, but it wass Taiwan. Representing China. We've always had a screwed up relationship with China, which was really just modern China was formed, and they always say China's 5000 years old modern China's from 1949. When they went full blown communist The mismanagement. Of going off on a tangent here, but check was the US Western backed Revolutionary looking to take control over China before there was a Chinese revolution before World War two during World War two. They were an ally. We had allied ourselves with Chiang Kai shek and the forces of You can't really call it freedom but more freedom. Certainly anti Communist, and Mao is the leader of the Communists. They sort of Put their differences aside during World War two and fought the Japanese not completely afterwards they chased Chang Kai shek controlled most of China. And he got complacent. He got lazy and he let Mao then with a small group of people. This is what I mean when they say that a small group of people dedicated to a cause. Can wreak havoc on the country and actually take it over. That's why you should take antifa and black lives matter seriously. That Mao Severely outnumbered but up against incompetence. Managed to defeat Chiang Kai shek and chase him out of Beijing, chase him off of mainland China and chase him to Taiwan. Chiang Kai shek lived is the rest of his life on Taiwan, pretending that he was still in charge of all of China and the rest of the world of the Western world. Pretended he was too And so the United Nations had China sitting there, but it was really Chiang Kai shek sky and it was representing Taiwan. Nixon goes to China. In the early seventies and says This is ridiculous instead of just correcting it in saying you're too different countries, both Taiwan likes to believe they're still in charge, and they have a rightful claim on all of China and China likes to believe that they're still in charge and have a claim on Taiwan. So rather than you know, just tell these people these groups of people look, you'll be adults about this. Your separate now get over it. The Official government position and then the rest of the world. Really? Said. All right, we're no longer going to recognize Taiwan is China..

"Last night. That's so happy birthday. Barack Obama s so glad you're not president anymore. Thanks for all the damage that you've done. You're the horror that you unleashed on our country still reverberates today from Seattle to Portland to the burning of ST John's Church to all of the racial animosities and the conflict. Those are your legacy that that is your that is your work still bearing fruit out here in the streets of America with arson and looting and shootings and murder and mayhem. Assassinations of police and cash will help privileged We were to have you as president. You are like a minor prophet really used to have a tattoo of you on my back. I don't really is an awful and terrible person and did so much damage that will be a long lasting to this country and setback. Race relations by at least a generation, probably two generations and on the left has picked up where he left off. And things just continue to get back here and work here. But there is that's our Barack Obama birthday song. I do love that birthday song on this special to Barack Obama Now, Joe Biden. Of course he was Barack Obama. August 4th, 1961. Joe Biden, 1942 and that was a kind of a fun movie that 1942 movie Joe Biden he was he was, Huh? What was his campaign slogan is That's the whole thing was his bumper sticker. Joe Biden is we haven't celebrated his birthday in order, I think will begin anytime soon because He's November 20th 1940 to 77 years old. What All right now, let's get let's get to some news here because why love celebrating birthdays and certainly one of Barack Obama for the arson on the targeted killings of police officers. The racial conflict as we haven't seen it in generations in this country. Thanks to the thanks for the Democrats. I don't want to get Teo President Trump, who yesterday Had a press conference and he and he had had some things to say, as you might imagine about mail in voting Now, I've been talking about this mail in voting thing for a couple of weeks now, and there have been stories in the even The Washington Post about. For example, the Carolyn Maloney Carolyn Maloney contest in New York, New York 12 New York congressional district for the House of Representatives. The election was held more than five weeks ago. And we still don't know who wanted because of all of the mail in balloting and the Democrats. They like this because they're not really on our side, and they don't want a civil society anything like that. Then in the 12th district. They are still looking Tio. They're going through the ballots, and they're rummaging through bins, and they're trying to find all kinds of things to see who won. But it looks like the fix was in and Carolyn Maloney will win and return to Congress once again Now, President Trump was telling that we, of course, read the Paterson Newjersey debacle where four people have been indicted for fraud. Having to do with the voting in the mail and bounce in Pennsylvania. We've got this just ongoing right now. Pennsylvania Paterson, New Jersey and the 12th Congressional District in New York are all debacles, just complete nightmares. And even the Washington Post was was admitting that now they stop talking about it because President Trump Is talking about what a nightmare the corrupt voting that the Democrats are arranging for us yesterday. This is this is great. There are so many articles on this better ridiculous and the news media keeps yelling. No, everything's good with mail in voting. Everything is wonderful with mail in balloting. And it's not true. Of course, it's a it's a big lie. They're lying all the time. And did I mention this is important. Also, the Revolutionary Communist Party has endorsed of the USA has endorsed Joe Biden on the Biden campaign, and they weren't the followers against protest votes there. They're the Communist Party. The Revolutionary Communist Party USA has got advice for Biden Voters, head of the Revolutionary Communist Party USA is urging members to head to the polls in November and cast their votes. For a Democratic nominee, presumptive nominee Joe Biden, arguing that while Biden still represents quote the murderous system of capitalism, imperialism Today's Day is a better choice than Trump because at least he's not a capitalist or something like that. Lengthy email to the Communist followers also opposed him in the Revolutionary Communist Party USA is website Bob, who is a communist. And that of the Communist Party in the states. If they if he took over, he'd have to kill himself. You have to throw himself in a gulag. Andi that he was killed by the vacuum said that ousting Trump from the White House was too important. A goal. He said. This is a critical hour every appropriate means of non violent action that they always say that and then they they burn the city down and say it was not violent. I've got some funny audio on that today. Must be utilized to remove the regime from power. He's talking about the Trump Administration, of course, and if in spite of mass protests demanding the removal of the Trump Pence regime, you mean violent rioting in the arson and murders across the country, the violence of the left Which is now normal and Democrat party politics and in America. This regime remains in power when it's time for voting, then without placing fundamental reliance on this, using all appropriate means to work for the removal of this regime must include voting against Trump. Assuming the election is actually held, so he watches MSNBC, so the Communist Party is now supporting The Democrat Party. And, of course, why wouldn't pay their? They are tongue in groove as it were with their hand in glove. They are. They're good stepping along with one another together. It's quite extracting. Now we know that there is I mean, again, just the New York 12 with Carolyn Maloney. And they're still trying to sort it out is a pretty good example. I've been playing the audio of of Eugene Robinson from The Washington Post and Joe Scarborough. How this when the When election Day comes. We're not gonna have a win around Election Day because the Democrats are going to be corruptly manipulating votes after Election Day. That's what all this mail and stuff is about. After all. Now. Just 36 minutes ago, the Hill reported that a judge has ordered New York ballots on House primaries be counted because the Democrats are still dithering. And this is when was this a federal judge's order? The New York Board of Elections to count more than 100,000 this qualified absentee ballots. In the primary race between House oversight on government reform Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney, the Democrat from New York, and challenger Suraj Patel, a Democrat from New York, who is of course, challenging her on the court has now had two come ahead and it appears.

Trump Wants to Ban TikTok, NASA-SpaceX Mission Success, & Unemployment Benefits Expire - Monday, August 3rd

"It's Monday August third president trump wants to ban TIKTOK. Info on the NASA spacex mission success plus unemployment benefits have expired why trump's team is interested in Biden's VP pick and more. Welcome to Rob Song, podcast where I bring you the latest Progressive News and politics and ten minutes or less I'm Robert Cunningham thank you for tuning in. Let's get informed. So president trump announced on Friday night that he wants to ban Tiktok Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that trump would be making an announcement on these matters in the coming days he said this on Fox News Sunday morning futures where he also said that Tiktok, the Chinese owned short form video APP needs to be taken down via executive action in addition to Tiktok. Mike. POMPEO. Pointed to we chat, which is a Chinese messaging APP saying that both of these are feeding data directly to the. Chinese Communist Party quote for a long time a long time. The United States just said well goodness if we're having fun with it or if a company can make money off of it, we're going to permit that to happen president trump said enough going on the secretary of state added and we are going to fix it and so he will take action in the coming days with respect to a broad array of national security risks that are presented by software that connected to the Chinese Communist Party. Microsoft has emerged as wanting to potentially by all US operations of tiktok accents reports that trump does have a deal on his desk where Microsoft would lead acquisition of the US operations of six talk and Microsoft seems to believe that it's possible that a total separation can happen from tiktok parent company by Dance. It's important for you to understand that presidents normally can't just order a ban on individual companies like this but the fact that Tiktok has a foreign owner allows the Treasury Department to have broad. Authority over it. Now, at this point, it's unclear whether trump is going to allow Microsoft to buy it or if trump is just going to push for an all out ban, we don't know. But what we do know is that this is super weird coming just months before an election six does have one hundred, million US users, and so it is rather strange move it could alienate some I mean granted I don't know if it would make much of a difference, but it just seemed strange. NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Bankin are safely on earth after a historic flight to and from the International Space Station provided by SPACEX Axios says on Saturday afternoon both astronaut splashdown into the Gulf of Mexico after about two forty, eight PM eastern time a space x vessel was able to recover both astronauts from their crew, dragon? Capsule. Hurley in bank in two month mission was the first time that people have been launched into orbit from the United States. The end of the space shuttle. Program in twenty eleven. This new move of partnering for Space Exploration, with private companies can allow NASA to act more of like a buyer instead of a provider of these services now and will free up NASA's budget to focus on things like getting people to the moon and eventually other planets in the future. In fact, NASA and SPACEX already have another trip planned this time for six months with multiple. NASA. Going up to the International Space Station, this will take place around late. September. So be on the lookout. Additional unemployment benefits of six hundred dollars per week expired on Friday July thirty first and reportedly the White House Senate. Republicans and Democrats are all know we're closer to a deal? Apparently, all sides are on board though for another twelve, hundred dollar check like was done with the cares act earlier this year the main point of disagreement is the additional unemployment benefits six hundred dollars extra. A month is what people have been receiving since the cares act was passed Democrats want to continue at that rate while Republicans want to. Bring that down to two hundred additional dollars per week while eventually moving holy to seventy percent of lost wages Republicans additionally wanted to get a one week extension on the six hundred dollars per week of additional benefits passed quickly. But the Democrats are refusing because they think that the Republicans are just GonNa. Use It as just a quick win and move on. But the Democrats are saying that they want a full robust bill. Now, the Democrats have proposed a three trillion dollar deal while the Republicans are looking to pass. A one trillion dollar deal, and as of yesterday junk Schumer the Senate Minority leader said that there were significant divisions remaining but good progress is being made quote. We made good progress. There are lots of things we are still divided on and we're not close to an agreement yet, but we are making good progress and I'm hopeful that we can get to an agreement. Now they're going to resume talks today. Okay. But do not be fooled. The Republicans are trying to place the onus here on Democrats but Democrats came. Up with a bill back in May the bill back in May like I said had a three trillion dollar price tag. It was approved by the House but then has not been voted on in the Senate and Senate Republicans want to have a one trillion dollar bill that does not do nearly enough in my opinion. So but as of right now you know who's GonNa Suffer America, the American people that are unemployed we just had on Thursday. One of the worse GDP records for quarter ever if not the worst. The percentage of GDP lost was close to thirty three percent. I hope we get a deal soon things are super hard to pass in Washington obviously, and I'm glad that the Democrats are sticking their feet in and trying to get this thing passed the Democrats are not perfect and I fear that they're going to cave too much here. But we've got to get something done because there is an eviction crisis looming we need to renew the moratorium on fictions. Now CNBC just posted a study recently that twenty two to fifty nine percent depending on the state that you live in of renters may be facing eviction as a result of the corona virus economic circumstances these numbers are horrifying and I'm sure this isn't the last time you'll be hearing about it. Trump's campaign paused ads over the weekend, which is really weird because they wanted to rebrand their messaging and new ads launching today are going to be depicting Joe Biden as a puppet of the radical left. This comes from two senior campaign officials but the most recent internal polls show that the puppet of the left's attack on Biden is going to resonate with voters and speaking personally in someone who lives in a very heavy trump territory. The this is the talking point that I've heard Oh Biden's not the problem it's. Going to be the VP you have to look out for as if Kamla Harrison. Some sort of crazy radical assuming he chooses someone like her speaking of the VP spot trump's campaign is very interested in that because the quote unquote radical left thing that they're going to be using their ads is a placeholder for whoever Joe Biden ends up picking. By the way, we will learn who Joe Biden is going to pick around on tenth multiple sources have suggested he said now he pushed back his self imposed deadline from. The first week of August to the second week and one source has said that it's going to be August tenth now. So be on the lookout here. No matter who Joe Biden picks. I think that Joe Biden is well-positioned. Of course, we all have to go out and vote that. This is not a matter of that we have to vote even if we live in California or Massachusetts or Oklahoma Even for God's sake, we have to vote for Joe Biden, but it doesn't really matter as much who he picks. Think this go around because trump's campaign is reportedly very upset that Biden doesn't have the unfavorability rating that Hillary Clinton did in two, thousand, sixteen, all of this trump at drama gotta be Biden's campaign to respond Andrew Bates. Director of rapid response said quote the American people know Joe Biden and after seven consecutive months of failed leadership during the worst possible health crisis in generations they know that our nation's capacity to join the rest of the world beating back cove nineteen has been crippled by one overriding burden donald trump. Representative James Clyburn of South Carolina said on Sunday that he believes trump is trying to put a cloud over the election and that he does not plan to leave office. If he loses Clyburn told CNN that the American people had better wake up to trump and he compared trump to Mussalini and said Russian President Vladimir Putin is akin to Hitler further representative Clyburn said quote I don't think he plans to leave the White House. He doesn't plan to have fair unfettered elections I believe that he plans to install. Himself in some kind of emergency way to continue to hold office. Now, all of this is to say everything that Clyburn is saying here means that we have to so overwhelmed the vote that trump cannot cheat. Hong Kong's new security law explained

"Has denied attacking free speech after biting a dozen candidates from Legislative Council elections scheduled for September. The decision really does come a day after police arrested four youths over social media Post chief North Asia correspondent Stephen Angle has investigated the ramifications of this national security Lou in a new hour long documentary airing later. Friday. In fact, just over half an hour's time is hunger on aged to Steve joins us now with a look at what's in store for the opposition. After these latest move, Steve Well, Obviously, it's a big blow to the opposition if they have 12 of their candidates and potentially even more to be disqualified because, according to the government here, they do not necessarily meet the qualifications of supporting the basic law as well as the new national security law. So it is a blow. I mean, it is one of the biggest disqualifications. It is the biggest disqualification of candidates. Because four years ago in 2016 6 candidates were disqualified and I'll let you decide of the merit on those disqualifications in this slice of Hong Kong on edge, too. I honestly feel that at the end of the day at the moment, we're on like an airplane with a lot of turbulence. Everybody's holding on waiting for the plane to land. Hong Kong Police Take Steps To Enforce Controversial National Security Law

"Now to what appears to be new steps by Hong Kong police who are enforcing a controversial national security law. They have arrested four people for statements posted online police Said they were promoting independence from China as NPR's John rule, which reports these arrests raise fresh concerns about freedom of speech in the former British colony. The four suspects range from 16 to 21 years old. Police didn't identify them. But a pro independence group called student localism that disbanded at the end of June when the national security law was enacted, said on Facebook. All four were former members. Elise. Senior Superintendent Steve Lee said the suspects posted their desire online to promote Hong Kong has its own country and to unite pro independence groups in Hong Kong Thiss organization prose. In the social media's about the establishment off of a Newt parties. That way you could promote the independence of the Hong Kong Chinese Parliament imposed the National security Law in Hong Kong at the end of June. It was drafted past and enacted largely in secret and with little consultation from Hong Kong itself. Law banned subversion, secession, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces. Hong Kong's Beijing back leaders and China's ruling Communist parties say it was necessary after months of anti government protests in the city. Critics of the law is sweeping in vague, They say it threatens many of the freedoms that have said Hong Kong apart from the mainland since China regained control over the territory in 1997. Joshua Rosenzweig is head of the China team at Amnesty International in Hong Kong, he says this is a disturbing example of how the authorities air using the national security law to restrict freedom of expression. What we're seeing here is for young people who are potentially facing quite serious Jail time simply for expressing their political views online, you know, under international human rights law, blanket prohibitions of peaceful expression or just not not allowed. Several people have been arrested this month under the National Security Law for shouting band slogans or waving independence or liberation banners.

The US government is considering a TikTok ban

"TIKTOK has a history in Congress now. Josh Holly has basically been the main guy out to get to talk, but okay, so for the past year year and a half Josh Holly has had some hearings. He's invited to talk to testify, and then he's done these like wrestling style like hyper wheels on twitter, where he just like shows like an empty tick tock chair and he's like. Where are they and it's like we're guitar music album. Is Our personal information being made less secure by big tech, because of their partnerships with some of these questionable receive. At least. This has happened. We've been waiting all this kind of happened when Mike pompeo like randomly one night on Fox, news. It's like yeah. We're thinking about banning TIKTOK. And that's basically all he said, and then, of course, everyone's like what is happening, so the government can't really do a want to ban tiktok addy. Our colleague here on the policy dusted a wonderful story talking about all the ways that they could kind of get around. Banning them, but the one thing the government can do is banned other people in government from using. On their devices so. This week the House of A Josh Holly Bill that would ban federal employees from using Tiktok on their devices, and then just yesterday earlier this week. It made it through the Senate committee, so all it needs now is vote on the Senate floor to be approved signature and Tiktok. His banned from Federal Devices Military Tiktok is not a small community. No, it's huge. It's huge. It's huge I watch a lot of fighter jets land on aircraft carriers. Somebody took a very bad dad. TIKTOK I'll go. Is Very different from mine, so federal employees banned from using it. Is there any further motion like? Their moves right. You could like you can say it's a Chinese company. We don't want them like. We did it to Weiwei right, but we. We basically banned companies from buying equipment. How would you? How would you do that with Tiktok? We have this problem all the time. With like what regulator deals with tech, no one has any idea or they want a piece of it, and then they fight over it, and it's a nightmare, so that's part of the problem. We don't have in federal agency that really organizes around Blake Tech Regulation at all, so it's not like you can just go knocking on the. The door. It'd be like excuse me. Chairman Simon's please ban. Tiktok you can't do that so in the same way that the FCC jeep pie can be like no money goes to while away and then here's some money to dig it up and get it out of your system like we don't have the infrastructure for that and I think that's primarily the biggest problem here I mean. There's a couple of things that you could do with like foreign, Investment Sifi's. Sifi's stuff. It's all incredibly Wonky, but it's an incredibly difficult, if not impossible to just ban an APP, and that would have to do with like talking to apple and Google and APP stores and having you know what I mean having to com- completely direct what how they operate in some way. We just got done with a huge discussion about how apple has monopoly on after being on the iphone Google doesn't on Android, but they might may as well for. For most intensive purposes, especially here in the US, so if they can strong-arm apple and Google just pulling them off the APP store. That like it's pretty close I mean they're like Donald. Trump is like one iphone tariffs right away right? I mean but like I. Don't know if anyone is gonNA. Pull it off now, Casey. One thing that strikes me is even on my extremely lame Dad Tiktok I see so many creator saying is getting banned following instagram. It's a trend all over the place, and obviously trump and sort of the republican side of the the world are like Tiktok Chinese. We hate it. trumpet is I, think particularly pissed because of the rally narrative run TIKTOK that's Russell singles last week. Also delivers a lot of information to people in young voters in particular in Opaque Algorithm feed like that. It feels like yours zone has bubbled up beyond just a bunch of noise for you. Yeah, I mean like this is a Ben Thompson. Point which is that China has been in an information war with the United States for twenty years, and Americans have just pretended. It doesn't exist right like the point makes over, and over again is China started this fight? A social networks are not allowed to operate in China, and so the fact that. Albert Mickley based feed that is totally opaque. That is operating insider. Reporters should raise at least some national security concerns right like the kind of. Threat you worry about. Is You know what if the Communist Party decides that? It just wants to push a lot of pro-trump propaganda in the run-up to the election. You know it just because it would. It would so some chaos, and it would benefit them regardless of how likely you think that is to happen. The fact is that it could happen and. Should the the country have some sort of response to that? How should think about that? And you can take different views on it but I do think the thinking about what Tiktok is and how it could be used has been unsophisticated because as with every social product when it first got started. We all look at it and we think this is fun. This is a toy. Nothing bad could ever come from teenagers doing dances. And fast forward to the two thousand sixteen election has no one ever watched footloose I mean come on yeah. Look what happened. What state will allow dancing in that town? Lot of people think happy story I. Don't think that that is a movie about how town was ruined through dancing.

US arrests three Chinese nationals for visa fraud

"Lie about their status as members of China's military KP case. Brody Fernandez reports well, Katie, Three of those individuals have been arrested by the FBI, the fourth, however, a researcher from UC Davis Dwan Tang, who allegedly lied on a student visa form. When asked if she was a member of the Chinese military, well, she successfully fled to the Chinese consulate in San Francisco, where she's currently being granted protection by the Communist Party. Now the question is, Where do we go from here? Can't be Kay's legal analyst, Bill Portanova told me the situation. It's not anything new. The Communist government of China uses education visas and uses contractual agreements with businesses to being access to inside information technology research and so forth. And they use it to their own advantage in their own country, Of course, where they do not have any laws allowing for the protection of intellectual property or anything like that. So that means any technology or any research. The government of China gets their hands on Will they use it, and there's no way to sue them or even recover that research. In a statement said to Cabe a cave this afternoon, UC Davis officials did confirm Tang was conducting research in the Department of Radiation Oncology. I also found out TheStreet EAS were funded by the Chinese Scholarship Council, a study based exchange program affiliated with China's Ministry of Education. But are these four individuals who were charged possibly the only ones committing espionage? The Communist Party of China sends tens of thousands of people to the United States to infiltrate every level of society. How many of these people are students is a number that nobody knows. In California. There were 25,000 Chinese nationals attending the University of California throughout the state. This woman who has been charged is only one out of 25,000 but her being charged and these other people being charged, I think is the tip of an iceberg. Yeah, Kitty, that iceberg and represents the U. S China relations right now. And after this news breaking today, many think there will soon be a tipping point. And now with Tang under protection from the Chinese government in San Francisco, there's not really much hope for justice if she was, in fact committing espionage Well. If China was, in fact a country that played by international standards, there would be some sort of diplomatic discussion and resolution of the issue. Unfortunately, China cheat. And you can fully expect that China will deny she's there and then fully expect her to be smuggled out of the country. You know, Portanova says Unless the FBI was already heavily monitoring the Chinese consulate there is little hope Tang will be seen in a U. S courtroom anytime soon. As for U. C. Davis, they told me their school of medicine is providing all information requested by the FBI. And all other authorities who are continuing to investigate this case. "It's the shiny new thing in social media, and it's super popular with Generation Z. But the clock may be running out on Tic tac. See what I did there because the Trump administration claims it could be used for espionage. NPR's Jackie Northam explains. When you scroll through the TIC tac cap, There's a constant stream of lively music videos featuring teenagers and twentysomethings and lots of cute little dogs and sunglasses performing for the camera. But they're going to be some pretty unhappy young people here in the U. S. If the Trump administration gets its way. In an interview, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned the U. S may ban the Chinese own TIC TAC because it views it as a national security risk, whether it's tic tac or any of the other Chinese communications platforms, APS Infrastructure that this administration taken seriously the requirement to protect the American people from having their information end up in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party. Tic Tac has been just really an uplifting thing for families. This is a company and an app that is meant for creativity and to enjoy that's Michael Beckerman, a vice president and head of public policy at TIC Tac US. He denies the Trump administration's charges and says there's no intelligence to be gleaned from the AP. Vic talk, like other social media platforms collects data on its users. But Beckerman says, Tick tock never has, nor will share that data with Beijing. We have very strong access controls to data our servers as I mentioned her in Virginia and the decisions on content and everything else or air made at the U. S level by our U. S leadership. The considerable Beijing Stealing data has been building for about five years. Ever since a cybersecurity attack on the office of Personnel Management when sensitive information of more than 20 million U. S citizens was stolen, Paltry Olo, who focuses on the intersection of politics and technology at the Eurasia Group. Scissor have been a number of similar incidents since Trio says the concern grew when China introduced a new national security law a couple years ago. And that law basically just says that companies individuals have to cooperate with the Chinese government when it comes to intelligence matters. It's very vague, though it doesn't say a social media company has to turn over all stated to the Chinese. Government, the Trump administration's effort to ban any Chinese equipment that could be used to steal sensitive data, trade secrets or intellectual property is picking up speed. That even includes thousands of surveillance cameras set up in government buildings and military facilities. Most of them are made by Chinese companies or have Chinese components. All those cameras have to be removed by August 13th. Hitting the deadline is absolutely going to be tricky. I mean, it's just it's like it's less than a month away. Catherine Gronberg is with Force Coat Technologies, a California based cyber security company. She says. It'll be difficult to replace the cameras. You know, the fact is, is that these markets are dominated in some cases by Chinese products, and in fact, we don't have alternatives that are either made by us or in the U. S. Or U. S Ally, Eurasia Group's trio, Lo says the movement against TIC TAC and other Chinese platforms and tech companies. Comes at a particularly turbulent time in U. S China relations exacerbated by the trade dispute and the Corona virus pandemic. It's a much, much broader problem that between the US and China that the tech companies are being dragged into You know, there's there's no trust basically, and the administration warns more Chinese made equipment or APS are in its crosshairs. S. what is to be done all these years of the Chinese miracle now that we see that the Chinese have taken advantage of our generosity and are at even as we speak looking to leverage their power over our markets Frank is published and speaks routinely about what is to be done about the Chinese communist party's aggression this time it's financial aggression Franco very good evening to you what is the federal retirement thrift investment board and how is it that the trump administration is recommending that that become a battlefield between Beijing and Washington good evening Frank good evening John thank you so much not just for that very kind introduction but for all you do along with our mutual friend Gordon trying to eliminate these issues week upon week upon week the federal retirement thrift investment board is a an empty in Washington that nobody has ever heard of before that it has about five individuals all of whom were appointed during the Obama era about three years ago decided that the board's oversight of the federal retirement system now owns the thrift savings plan should entail the migration of funds from our military men and women in uniform our federal civilian employees and their respective you know retirees even to a fund that would involve if they wanted to international diversification Chinese companies in portfolio some of those Chinese companies it turns out are engaged in very bad things as many Chinese companies are actually but in particular there were several that were involved in for example human rights violations which have been sanctioned by the government of the United States of building South China Sea islands with great strategic importance of you know building weapons systems with which to kill those same servicemen and women and perhaps many of the restaurants as well and the president I'd states we are very pleased to say in part I think thanks to the work of our committee on the present danger China became aware of what was afoot and did what we were quite confident he would do if only he knew about and that is say this must stop we can't let this happen and he intervened directly to do two things one to change the make up of that started by college for every board and to click on the markers through his senior subordinates Larry Kudlow another old friend of both of ours now the director of the national economic council and the residents national security adviser Robert o'brien and they discovered the problem here this is vitally important hi John not just to what this particular anecdote or story microcosmic example of a larger problem the tales but it's very important to solving the larger problem as well and that is this Larry Kudlow robbed of Brian said the problem is centrally three full we do not know all about the financial viability of these Chinese companies because they don't disclose that information as a result you could have fraudulent companies you can have companies with grace material risk we will now certainly some of these companies as I've mentioned involve activities are responsible for doing the work for the Chinese Communist Party that is actually harmful to our national security or in some cases is violative of our human rights priorities so for these reasons it's not just a problem that our military personnel and are civilian employees are investing in these kinds of Chinese companies but it's also a problem John for the larger investor population of the United States which may be on the order of a hundred and fifty or a hundred sixty million US trucking business Frank how do we get into this fix was it inattention by the various administrations Mr Clinton Mr bush Mr Obama and Mr trump they just were not paying attention I think it's fair to say John McGinn you and Gordon have talked about this endlessly it's fair to say that for the longest time arguably going back to Nixon but certainly since Clinton we have embraced the idea that as long as we are in wishing China all will be well they'll behave better we will face any threats will do business with them will make money on and on that reality has died a slow and painful death in the midst of this pandemic I think but here's what really kicked it into high gear John in may of twenty thirteen then vice president Joe Biden helped engineer after several years of import tuning by the Chinese Communist Party a deal that essentially allowed the Chinese to get out of jail free card it it said to them you don't have to conform if you want to be in our capital markets you don't have to conform to our audit standards the American companies pay on average one point five million dollars to conform to by the way and when they got that past they were able essentially to move trillions of dollars from the U. S. capitol and bond markets you want the stock market John back to Beijing back to the Chinese communist enterprise providing real life support for them with no one basically challenging this idea until very lately and we are now especially in this environment of the crackdown that is in the works of against with freedom the spy ring people of Hong Kong the just a moment here the fact that we've turned and looked at the Chinese I mean these things Frank as you list their non transparent their dictatorship and the Chinese Communist Party owns everything so we've known this for a long time so have have the scales fallen from the trump administration's eyes can we be confident this would be a policy of of four indefinitely and not for just a few months John you're very serious student of and administrations of president past and you know that they're made up of lots of people right there are people inside this administration and I think specifically Steve Mnuchin the treasury secretary and old Goldman Sachs guy who is bound and determined to perpetuate this sweetheart deal that the Chinese have benefited from massively Larry Kudlow to his great credit I think this one connector and he though he's been very close to Wall Street over the years as you know has come down on the side of we have to do the right things for America we have to protect our national security we have to protect our investors we cannot allow them to be essentially turned into one vast China lobby without doing unimaginable harm to our country to its security to our freedoms so I think this is still very much in flux the president came down on the right side on the square savings plan we needed to do the same with respect to Hong Kong and the capital markets more generally one place to start job one place to start is by tearing up this memorandum of understanding that Joe Biden engineered as I said and you can do that on thirty days notice for any reason that needs to be done immediate Frank Gaffney was an Assistant Secretary of defense and Ronald Reagan's defense department is the vice chairman of the committee on the present danger China is the host of secure freedom dot org which is a podcast as well as streaming I'm John bachelor this is the John Batchelor show.

"The Communist Party didn't exist at that point I'm always just the kind of like a which is the movement so he went there under nationalist coalition and it was only in forty nine at the communists had to pass laws but you know that's the question you know once you spy one D. something that is being kind of dreamed up by the deep state was a little focal accident wasn't like Christ I mean these are you know really important questions because this guy truly he he knew everything about America's most advanced secrets the other the airforce of developing the secret space program based on these flying forces that have been captured from **** Germany and from its official visitors that he was part of the team that established the blueprint for the Air Force to develop the secret space program he was deported to China that's crazy and he developed a rocketry program exactly it the first thing he did when he went to China in nineteen fifty five by the nineteen fifty six he sets up the fifth academy stocks trading scientists and engineers you in establishing a rock program that gets has an agreement which is in agreement with the Soviet Union and and before you know it China in the nineteen sixties is starting to test it this dumb thing but I think we both well it was either a spire they made him work with the gun pointed at his head well I I think I think they truly welcomed the mechanic they they understood that this is a man who had been you millions of body but in the west that he had he had the he had been personally flooded and he had a he had a a crutch the grant yeah but you don't think it's a disfavored him for selecting the west over China oh no no not at all because of me he went there in the nineteen thirties there were a lot of so was it is it like you said it was before the revolution aptly so he went there as you know under the nationalist government and so they welcomed chan and and they were kind of your civil dozens of a very highly trained technicians engineers that has done very well in the United States that will welcome back into China the Chinese the Chinese one of all these people come back because after the after the revolution money forty nine of China was just an agrarian state that we need to have no real military all of the all of the most advanced fighter coming Jimmy is they they they fled with Chiang kai shek forth with the the only ones so for China really needed help and expediting courage all of these with trying to fight this to come back to China and so the program to get them to come back in and I will many of them will welcome back as heroes and and throughout the sixties and seventies chan with that knowledge does the hero of the Chinese people's Republic see all the Iranians who came to the United States after the shock collapsed I don't think the Iranians the government there would welcome them back if they elected to go back to Randy you right yeah I think that'll be suspected of being spies or something like that absolutely Michael ward of people get your book or move your people can go to my website it's a politics dot org and the details of their full full you can get the paper back in the kindle edition and also the audible addition and they can go to Amazon the the the candle is up there in the paper that will be up there pretty soon as well this is book five of your secret space program series isn't it that's right yes very nice in looking at the what different major nations are doing and focuses with the Chinese and next will be I'll be looking at the Russian program and how was that program coming along world you know I'm on the starting to kinda look into that so I really don't know enough about it but in the years pond hopefully I'll be able to you know talk to you about the Russians absolutely okay we're gonna come back and take promise phone calls in a moment with you rise of the red dragon those of you on hold we'll get right to you Dr Michael Saul on his website actual politics dot org we will be right back with your calls don't forget to watch your TV show beyond belief with George.

S. and China quickly dialing back these disputes over trade actually it's the trade wars not rolled back in the near term I think we're gonna have a very difficult okay that sounds really unsettling I guess the question I have after all of this is what you ordinary people like you and me have to worry about going forward so for now the US economy is doing pretty well unemployment rate remains really low wage growth is decent very little inflation then if you're in the markets for an investor for the long term one day drop in the market like this should really scare you shouldn't freak you out but if you're just about to retire and you're looking at your four oh one K. these days understandably can be really stomach churning okay well that's in pure senior business editor Urry Berliner.

"What is the relationship between those great corporations which were as powerful now's anything in the world and the party because he said nothing happens without the party but if you are Alibaba off you are Jack Ma what's the nature of your relationship with the Party and the Party leadership political power and China's obscure right so we don't no it's not transparent. It's not meant to be transparent so the honest answer is I don't know and nobody does but obviously they they. They look look at each other. They talk with each other and I'm sure they are aware of each other's power under certain limits what a party has done has brought in a lot of the wouldn't have done before is bringing a lot of these merchants into the party system but people like Jack. Ma Know that without party approval cool nothing that they would do would happen nothing that they would like to do and if the party opposes it. It's not going to happen so they will be careful. They can make a lot of money to in all kinds of stuff. Don't get into politics don't do that and with Jingping. There is now a personality cult which again as described in in West sometimes it said that this is going back to kind of Maoist version of how the Party operates sometimes as you hinted. It's a much deeper and longer tradition in Chinese political and social life the imperial model which which how should we say it is this is it is it. I think go back for neither. I think the answer is that China politically is still searching for a new form of government that derives from its own traditions but also seen as highly modern inefficient and actually the democratic. One of the things that's happening today of course is that China claims to be as democratic or even more so than Western democracies McAfee's in our Western democracies haven't done very well. The last three decades the case against it's not very hard to make as you know but what they mean gene is that through various avenues including social media the leadership knows or thinks knows what is happening at the lowest possible level level so one of the I think the key element of the Chinese political tradition it is tradition is a direct connection between the top and the most bottom. mm-hmm individual there's Chinese phrase for this opening the avenues of dialogue something like that and I think one of the reasons that the culture has that was close so how did not know this kind of the Chinese arguments he hit China did not mouth did not know what was happening so that naive you that was ed in the nineteen at the age of the Internet that was going to explode these kinds of regimes in white clay now that does a case for saying that the age of the Internet is really good for these kinds of regimes because there is that long tradition for authoritarians wanting to know what's going on a now you can do it. You can hear what's being said at the bottom before it had to pastoral as filters and now now you just get that direct access. I mean that's a great example of this is the social credit system in China which is abhorrent to Westernise. I suppose it's completely violate any idea of privacy but the social system measures all kinds of things. It's like financial credit. There's money but also your behavior education better. You pay your taxes what you've done what if cross the street in the right way and all that has pulled together into some sort of credit score. Some people are not able to board trains because they see as dangerous and with social media. Yes I mean I think the Chinese central leadership is extremely concerned about what is actually but people are actually thinking and they tried to get a handle on that as much as they can so yes and what role does ideology still play if any in the Chinese Communist Party because you can do here and it's very hard to understand it from a Western perspective that the leadership still talks about marks a useful source of knowledge.

"A what point does it make sense to cool it. A Maoist parties marries emerges as a separate ideologists in from the West but is it fairly early on clearly that this party is actually being driven by the personality and the views of one individual not until the second Second World War without now the Communist Party would not I'm sure have succeeded but he made a couple of really key interventions in the first one was in one thousand nine hundred eighty seven when the white terror almost decimated in the cities of Communist parties are supposed to thrive in cities take power our through some sort of Leninist coup in central capital Mouth Says No. This is not what it's going to happen. We have to go into the countryside and mobilize and of course marks were so against all that that is a huge change and manos great things of course he is able to draw enormous power out out of a very poor and backward countryside and that itself is of course in amazing stories was one intervention into the countryside the other key intervention and I think that's very interesting. One and people haven't talked about that much is his organization. Violence is a great technician of violence. If a couple of ways he's he's the one power come to us with barrel of the gun but it's the party that must control the gun until he built a structure and this has been been driven after the Long March into this completely hospitable terrain famine nothing grows at horrible and he creates this machine we have party party but you also have strong armed forces and they create these base areas behind Japanese lines because he doesn't have conflict with Japanese definitely not because he's going to lose because there aren't good doesn't want any conflict with the nationalist. There's still a major force because they would lose again and so so he builds his base areas and it's very interesting when he is thinking about how to do this and we have to mention the sort of defeated again and again again the China the communist capital in the northwest and Mao isn't what do I do. How do I create power out of nothing. I don't have if this industrial base. I don't have a state. What do I do and he reads everything under the Sun. He's a smart reader right one of the books that has most implement miss. Clouds of it people always talk about S- Windsor and so on but Mao admitted at somebody no I haven't read is not very good at from it is closing its translate clausewitz thousands and he learns a lot from them. Including about the importance of politics organizing violence going for absolute violence but having rationality to party control the violence that is at the same time and again it sort of incredible things he does. They're surrounded by the nationalist surrounded by the Japanese internees the trying to build these bays areas. How do you make political organization that is highly disciplined in control all this they have radios but other than that there isn't very much so he has purification drive the yen on rectification campaign and he really puts his stamp. It puts his his will on the Party and I I do you follow me or die so during the Mao years obviously covers a lot but were there rival sources of power in Chinese in his society were there bits of the control of these sorts of exercise that he thought actually posed a real danger to him if he didn't confront them yes this one of the big factional splits at the time and he is doing this. There's a group of people within the Communist Party one mean who derive power from their relationship with Moscow this style in so that's a really important source of power and Mao has to solve cleverly isolated people at the same time that he suggests that I am following Stalin so he's very good at that kind of international relationship to one source the other source of real power of course fighting Japanese one of the problems that mouth face that this time is that he cannot fight a Japanese yeah. He must suggest that he is fighting the Japanese so he has this united front but he doesn't want to be absorbed by the nationalist either so it's very carefully construct policy where what we will do is refined..

"Talking you could say the origin story of the Chinese Communist Party is just this incredible success story essentially more or less from nowhere within about twenty years to be governing a vast empire. How how did they do it. It is an incredible story. I think first of all many are you have a group of young kids students in the twenty s there were two other figures but there was not that relevant for very long time the meeting Shanghai from across China some have been embarrassed but I was coincidental and as you say thirty years later they run this vast country and then take it on and become make it into superpower so it is an amazing story. How did they do it. I think the first thing in communism of course this is history driving all this. The outcome is inevitable but that's clearly not the case. I think one of the problems for party now to admit is it. A lot of luck was involved a real great amount of Oh luck there could have been destroyed in the twenty. S indicate should at them in nineteen twenty seven. Do I tear that perch. There could have been destroyed. Loyd then in the nineteen thirties of melting setting up this this communist base in Junkie Social Beautiful country very poor nationalist again surround the nearly killed and gone along mart a huge defeat and to begin with troops of one hundred thousand people kids drawn out of the villages going along Mike hundred thousand troops by the end when you move into north China driven into this horrible horrible north China which is copied it was supposed to die. There's ten thousand people left and then in one thousand nine hundred eighty five suddenly have trump supposedly a one million. Let's say half of that would be real and then four years later in the civil war. They actually roll through this country so luck is important because we're not for the Japanese invasion day would have never gone anywhere and Mao in the nineteen one thousand nine hundred ninety s when he was welcoming Japanese visitors who want to trade with China because the Japanese believed that was important to them they kept apologizing for what they had done to China China and Mao as usual. Don't apologize without you guys. We would still be hills so it's fine and thank you very much and so he acknowledged that. I think that is a problem for leadership today. Who Keep saying again and again without a party in China would be nowhere we are the ones who will survive the the Chinese culture tiny civilization because you could say the other way to frame an origin story which is based in luck. Is We should have died so many times. The fact we didn't mean to actually destiny was on our side. There is a kind of destiny element to it the Long March and other things the closer you get obliteration not obliterated it means. You're always going to win right. That is absolutely absolutely true. They that's not the argument day. Make It is inevitable and we were always right. We make mistakes we corrected them and someone that's the kind of history create tell about themselves and was actually the first one to enforce that following of course Stalin who made the same kinds of arguments in the short course but there is something like the Tory party they are able to change leaders when it is really really necessary. I'm not suggesting to the Tory Party will actually survive this particular crisis in the same way that maybe one way to think about the problem that is useful in two years time the Chinese communist piracy. We'll have to commemorate at hundreds anniversary now. That's a big transition because it's the longest communist party in control and it's still going strong now. Why would that be special. What is the answer to that so I'm very curious to see how they will do that in two years time and I'm sure they're extremely nervous about this so we'll we'll get that but go back to the story that gets to the present..

"This is the daily with me under milita now to take a look at the Asian newspapers. We are joined by David Slesinger, former editor in chief of Reuters and an expert on China, David we start with the global times. That's a disconcerting headline. It says Beijing readies for possible. High tech Cold War must we included. This is I think it's really important for us three member that whatever you hear about the trade war currently going on between China and the US the negotiations. Whenever happens on intellectual property or actual trade numbers. The real battle isn't about twenty nineteen. It's about twenty thirty twenty four twenty fifty and who's going to dominate the world economy, and that's going to depend who dominates artificial intelligence who dominates five Jeep at the moment. China's putting the money in the US put out a new strategic paper, but it's actually China that's put in the investment in and trying to make real gains, the Chinese communist party famously plays. Long game in a way that few western political parties, do I guess the Chinese communist party, recognizing they don't have to waste time and energy worrying about getting reelected can take the broad view. But. Is there a here yet sense of a vision of what they see this new world looking at one of those Deitz two thousand thirty two thousand forty. Well, I think with China wants to do is take all the big data, then it can get from having such a huge population and having apps throughout its population. Nearly use that to develop new ways of developing technology, new types of robotics, new applications for the technology, and that's really what's weighing to run GDP from now on okay, we'll studying in China and maintaining the theme of enormous ambitious expansionist projects by China. This is a story from the China Daily looking ahead to what it says the the blueprint for the bay area..

"Have to be cleared by the communist party China and it's going to the military. The kind of involved in this kind of overseeing the space program. They have to be okay with this. So I mean you con- to start up a. Space dot up in China and expect to get anyway. I mean, you have to have context. The. Yeah, you go to play normal political game that you have to be connected. So. They've helped to access the technology and they would probably have had funding from Sastin, which is the countless government body, which oversees the space program. So I mean, will this would have to be. Very closely watched him. So it's like a privatized arm of the Chinese space program in some ways. I think that's the main thing that people have questions about is like not necessarily approvals or funding, but. Maybe the level of control that you know the Chinese government could impose upon company. I think a level of oversight of these. I mean, maybe not control. I mean, maybe not heavy hands, but for example, cast, I think that they have. I mean, the state owned by that, so much state controlled. I mean, they have freedom to work on these products. I mean, they have to be okayed by the communist party, but it seems that they're able to put money until these schemes like now, reusable space playing. Example, the law much nine on the next generation spacecraft to be shunned Joe's excessive. I mean, they're working on these even though the not explicitly approved by the government so that they do have some kind of scope to act by themselves. So, but at the same time, I mean, this would have to be some level kind of okay with the comes to China, which oversees everything job, right. And I guess there the point is if they're seeing budgetary problems in space, they're probably going to be okay with anything that kinda gets them out of that that problem territory, you know. And if they see launches viable spot to reduce costs, then give these people the freedom that they can have and. See what happens with. It's, it's a very curious transition period. I would say. For while I thought the China was kinda going to follow the the US route storyline from the sixties to now where went through this very government heavy phase and then it slowly transitioned out of that. And it feels based on what you're saying here with the twenty fourteen mindset shift. It feels like there may be fast forwarding that time line a bit realizing that they need to make that switch sooner. And now it's a matter of getting these couple of companies online. It's land space, link space, one space. They all have to have space as the second half of their name. Where else they're not allowed is what I'm getting. Is space space. It's it's. The other part of that is I assume that they kind of think that these companies would be able to capture some part of the commercial launch market internationally. I don't know if you have any sense of how I mean, obviously, you know, there's companies all of the world today that have launched stuff on Chinese rockets before radium satellites were launched on threes back in the day, and there's plenty of people that go over there to get launches given the current political landscape, how do you see the prospects for a company like land space, being able to land contracts out of US Europe, Russia?.

"Only two people won't you to invest in me. So I was rejected the one hundred sixty seven times, but the fact that at could even meet more than one country western was good. T dash. One of the things that really fascinates people from outside of China is the relationship between the communist putty and business. So how does that work in practice from a business perspective? The communist party is essentially the ultimate fraternity or old boys club, and it has its own unwritten bylaws and rituals. So joining the party and rising through its ranks or becoming friends with those that do means you're able to access patronage networks and that's key to attaining any kind of big corporate success in China in return the communist party ultimately retains broad control over even private sectors and the party despite being communist in the allergy is is not against business. It's just against any business that doesn't simultaneously fulfil the party's objectives while making money. I'm a party member and somewhile who strongly suppose socialists in the beginning, I had no government encouragement. It was my own idea. As soon as we began as a company, we had a party sell. Part party construction has always been very good for cooperated development. For example, our corporate culture, not everyone can be a party member, so they make full very good employees. Supervisory bodies and clans have more trusting our work. They won't work with us as thou employees their parents feel more secure that their cells and daughters are working for our company. So whether for will corporate culture, business development, the party has been good for us. We also have clear signs for those who are party members. Seeing our office, we call them signing talents..

"Certain device makers like blackberry and others have been given user data in order to build tools in it seems that some chinese manufacturers also had access to similar one of them is a hallway at believe i'm pronouncing that name correctly one of the most difficult to pronounce manufacturing aims but they they apparently were given some access in us said that that's another company with very close ties to the to the chinese communist party with considered it a national security threat in so this is another case where facebook is in the spotlight for not a good reason it just kind of intensifies this this crisis they've been going through over failing to protect personal data but of course facebook itself is banned in china correct in this probably is part of was part of their it's still is it looks like they are ending at least one of these agreements with the chinese manufacturers but this was probably part of their efforts to get into chinese market where they haven't had success so so it's not surprising that they would look for ways in day would extend any kind of agreement they have within the us manufacturer they would probably extend their but again it doesn't look like certainly the optics report andrew what what seems to be perhaps a saving graces facebook saying that no data was actually stood on chinese service right yes they're saying that the data remained on the phone and some of these cases perhaps they are it maybe maybe an especially when it really as it relates to these manufacturing issues maybe they did use it in a reasonably responsible way i think that's yet to be determined that the trouble is that there's so much information coming out the tide of opinion is certainly against them right now in it all just adds to this what looks like there's always a lag these things but it does look like this is a turning point for the company certainly perhaps stating the obvious but you know there's often a lag i think things are going to be quite differently quite different in coming years of.

"To the altitude to get strategic progress this way is this is this chinese communist party school of being petty yeah well refers more years i mean and and they are as chief says even when they weren't powerful they were during this but one thing that concerns me is that we may never be able to change the chinese character or the character of communist party officials but we can push back and we haven't done that over the course of decades so we have taught the chinese that they can indulge their passions and that's our fault yes steven which you comment on that guy is there a evidence that pushing back works do they turn and not know what next to say because it's not on their dropped down menu oh i think there's abundant evidence that gordon is exactly correct and that pushing back actually can work as with anything there is reason and some judgment about how much is enough and how much is too much uh but we have a culture aided them to be to be nitpickers on these things uh and to give in and we have allowed these things to distract us from bigger issues and we do need to find ways to these strong uh there are multiple examples of when the united states said no we're just not going there and the chinese find a way to accommodate uh and uh we we just need to these smarter about that because we're about it and don't give gordon to they think where patsies trump trump or or clinton it they think we're all patsies yeah and there's a lot of reason for them to believe that because we have over the course of decades for various reasons even when we are in a vastly superior position given into the chinese take that on board they press the advantage stephen yates is a candidate for the republican nomination for the state of idaho four lieutenant governorship this year the election is this year countdown to the election he's in bonneville county on his way to taiwan taiwan an independent capitalist and very happy state that china depends upon good heavens depends upon gordon chang of the daily beast i'm john batchelor two two.

"Leadership of both the communist party in the nation and what he's determined to do and i think he's made two mistakes one he's tried to cut off the internet that's a major major mistake for a g pong and the secular montes tried to cut off the fast loans or the money launched that are required to the middle class to have money and that's a major mistake but what he is not made a mistake in he said ordered a four hundred mile railroad from djibouti ethiopia and what are we have an and eat djibouti we had are drawn thousands we have a drawn base and eight thousand soldiers so with totally mismatched for the future we're not looking at the future and the right way we're not concerned about the nature of jobs in the future would not talking about the fact that many jobs will be eliminated and we're really not addressing the issue of of going from a digital to a quantum era which means we're going thousand times faster than we are right now in terms of the internet and that's mindblowing that is basically what we call a paradigm shift and neither party has addressed at the leadership has an addressed it and what we are wasting is a little people fighting little wars for nothing i mean and wasting our money meanwhile she is is gone all the way through laos vietnam he controls the may kong delta controls allowed of the waterways and china's not looking for war even though we have a hundred bases around china they really not relevant what are you sign their experience with.
