Fatal Shooting of Chicago Officer Widens Breach Between Mayor Lightfoot and Police

"Take some calls on this subject of mayor lori lightfoot and crime in chicago in the wake of devastating police shooting this past weekend. Let's go to line three mike who's in chicago illinois. Hello mike hi. Thanks for taking my talk call. You're doing a great job. Say i'm not surprised at the mayor because she's been showing her true colors for years. She's always hated police. She hates christians west year. She sent the police. It's traffic aides to write tickets around churches that remained open and refused to close down private independent churches. She wouldn't let anyone go to comiskey park wingfield baseball games but she was in the paper sky box with her family. She could do things no one else can do. And they're the same. And i don't know if you know this but a week before. This police officer was tragically killed. It was on the internet but the local news for refuse to pick up. The police officers were attacked and beaten and they are afraid to pull their weapons out absolutely. I'm glad that you brought up that example mike because there was a similar incident just a few days ago in boston in front of the boston public library where police three police officers were brutally beaten by someone who they were wanting to arrest in who is of course resisting arrest. You are right. Mayor lightfoot does not care about police. Where is her outrage about this again. Just last thing that i played a video of her responding and she was just saying. Oh it's a very emotional time. Where is her outraged. She doesn't sound devastated or angry. Because she doesn't care

"But it was complications of very serious drug addiction that that he had what's said is there always you know they like you said, you know, they are so identified with disco because of this very night after night fever. Soundtrack, and it just they dominate You said in the late seventies early eighties between their songs, and he gives songs was they wrote, And then they wrote, You know other songs for other people like Samantha Song. Was another, You know, well in in addition to that they wrote islands in the stream. Yeah, they wrote, they wrote, you know songs for Barbra Streisand Remember his guilty the guilty on lots of other artists. They had to do that. That's what I learned last night. They had to do that, because nobody would touch them as the BG's after the disco era, Yeah, and the stick mother came along with the disco era, Partially because of Steve dolls, you know, disco demolition that it was so interesting the way they covered this and this is the first documentary or, you know, covering. The disco era that I think rightfully, uh, points a finger at people hating disco music as something that was racially motivated and Motivated by homophobia. How do you really believe that? I do see? Because I definitely do You see, I disagree with that. I think that's that's revisionist. I believe, because I was I was I was a kid. At that time I was in my teens. And I did not. I didn't even know about homosexuality. Or I think that I what? What I thought mostly with disco demolition was about in the anti disco it versus rock was the was the culture of Off picking up women of being of that whole disco scene in the club scene of wearing the gold chains and being like Tony Manero, but I don't was part of it. That was part of it. But interestingly, they pointed out, and they showed it last night that at Comiskey Park where they had the disco demolition people were bringing Albums to blow up albums by African American artists, Not even disco records. Yeah, but those were disco would hang on. Hang on. No, they weren't Stevie Wonder was not a disco artist Diana. I don't know that I mean they were. They were showing albums that people were bringing there were not remotely Disco records. They were. They were records by African American artists, and I think the argument can be made that that was the case and they're definitely wasn't Anti gay vibe to the whole thing is that people who are uncomfortable with that decided to jump on the disco bandwagon because they thought the disco music was gay music. And it was. Well, I just well, maybe I was too young then to know that that other underbelly of it because I was a teenager, And I think that maybe see watch the document. Yeah, and watch the documentary and see what they say about it because I I think that it's true. And I think that this is one of the first places. Where I've seen that point out because Nile Rodgers of chic, you know off, freak out. You know, he's a very staunch, you know, believer that that disco was or are the anti disco movement. Is exactly what you were saying was both racist as well as homophobic and I I guess I'll have to take you now. I'm really interested to see this because I've always felt that that was an unfair tag because, like I said, I just remember it being That it was about, you know, picking up women and part now and then That's where we'll open shirted. You know, it was the Tony Manero thing was, it was the whole rush street scene. You know our studio 54 scene because if you listen was it was global. I mean, that's what it's about. But the point is, we're getting off the track of this. I mean, the beaches suffered greatly resulted because they were stigmatized..

"Think the fact that you know, Chicago, you know, I don't want to be honest about it. Chicago had kind of a losing streak in some ways, the last half decade or so, and we still have two baseball teams. Now that means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, But you know, we're really the only A city that has two baseball team's in the city, Los Angeles writes. New York has teams in different boroughs. Ah, it's a whole different thing. And it means a lot now. This season, of course, is the disaster with the covert and perhaps we can get past these teams. They don't know what they're doing like ST Louis in Miami and finish the season and what would happen if both the Cubs in the white sex went deep into the playoffs. Oh, my God! Oh, my God! You still watch baseball? Oh, yes, I watch it. I don't follow pitch by pitch every inning. It kind of gets into your system that one of the one of things about baseball is it follows three of the season in the climate that we have most of the country and you know many public marked the seasons with baseball in baseball itself marks the seasons as well. I think you could do nothing. You people out there, listening. Getting tuning in before the pregame show Socks versus Cleveland, You could do nothing better than two in the next week or to get a copy of Comiskey Park's last world. Siri's a history of the 1959 Chicago White Sox By Charles In Billington. It is a book that deserves to be on the bookshelf of everyone who loves Chicago history and who loves baseball. Chuck. Congratulations. It's really remarkable and go tune in the game right now. Okay. Thank you. Me recon. Best to you know, Thank you. You too. It really is a good book They don't have Louis appreciate, but they seem to have a number of good young players. Fingers cross. Ladies and gentlemen, thanks for listening to the afternoon after hours. Any Dickinson in this Saturday Tribune. She's syndicated, of course, but that's where you were able to see it here in Chicago. Had a letter that she responded to it began this way. Dear Amy After 31 years with my spouse, I'm now dating. I'm a widower. Dating is a new thing for me. There is a guy with whom I thought I had reached a good report. He reached out to me last week expressing an interest in getting together over the weekend. I responded that I'd like that and gave him my availability. I never heard back from him. I thought maybe he had an emergency, and I texted him Sunday night just to confirm that he was okay, he replied, apologizing for the weekend, getting away from him and said that He had a work project do that next day. I respect the fact that he takes his work seriously, but I'm bothered that he did not let me know his weekend plans were changed. I may be old fashioned, but this situation just makes me think we're not as a line does. I thought to me a quick text. Letting me know he needed to cancel would have been common courtesy. I think he was telling me he's not interested. Is this How things work now where you don't really need to let someone know if you're opting out of previously stated plans where there is a question for the new Age. Is this how things work now? You don't need to let someone know. You're opting out of plans. Maybe I'm out of touch signed a dating newbie. Amy, I want to tell you your letters are always the best of the people. That Bond too. You are so thoughtful and articulate. You've told me before that you don't doctor the letters. That's the way they come in, right? Oh, yeah. No, I I will occasionally trim a letter but know I love I love the way people described their their problems. And this person actually think this letter was written by a man. Um Bring any. He thought he was old fashioned, but, you know I think of my response I said, Oh, yes, waiting by the phone. It has been ever though. You know, I remember waiting by the phone when I was a teenager in the 19 seventies. And my mother. I was right outside on the lawn within earshot. You know I could hear it and race in my mother came out and she said something to me and I will. I'll just never forget it and that really informed my response to this guy, she said. If this person wanted to be in touch with you. You would know it. He wouldn't have to wait. It would be very, very obvious and what she said. Was people do what they want to dio. And so for this person, my answer was basically he's just not that into you. First of all, they really didn't have firm plans. But if anybody was super into another person, if they had, Ah, work emergency, they'd let him know it's really easy to do. So The thing that concerns me is how often Um people supply excuses for another person. When really all they have to do is open your eyes and he was really, really happening and be brave enough to sort of face the truth. I understand that. I also understand, though the question at the very end of that, which is maybe almost a different launch point for a conversation or an inquiry, And that is, but are things different now, like if you were dating when you were dating, and now you're back out in the field, for whatever reason. What are the protocols? What of the norms? Whether the expectations to conversations just drop off on social media, and that's okay. Or should you expect to follow up and I didn't break my heart, But I understood this sort of Conundrum this person faces. They don't know the rules of the game. Now Amy Dickinson is thie. Ask any author, the syndicated advice columnist You read in the Chicago Tribune. We talked to her once in a while, although it's been a while since you and I connected Amy. I hope you're well and things were going good in your life. Everything. Fine, Thank thank And actually, I'm surprised that how many questions I'm getting regarding dating and I'm the mother of five. Young adults. So, um, I have learned that people are dating during the pandemic. They are creating a variety of what they seem to see a safeguard. But really aren't frankly. What do you mean by that? Well, um, for instance, Okay. One of my daughters has a male roommate and he said to her recently. Look, I'm going to start after break up. He said I'm going to start dating again. Um, and I intend to pay, you know different people. And, um so He and she are roommate. He's alerting her to this, but he's not really doing anything about it. You know, he's still coming into the house. He's still I mean, presumably not wearing a mask the entire time he's out with a new person. Coming and, you know, I think he feels like giving her a heads up is sort of the most He's prepared to do about that. Um, I think the pandemic raises lots of questions about dating. But the fact is People want to get out and meet people. I I get it. So we were talking about sort of have the rules changed, so I will say this job. As easy it is these days to connect. It's also so easy to disconnect, and I know you know about ghosting. Yeah, I know all the kids are doing it. Um, And this is where you basically drop off. You can play after you could be out with somebody that could involve a friendship dating relationship sibling or whatever you congee sailing along and you, then just stop. No contact. No response. No anything and this is very, very confusing to people. It's very confusing..

"The ESPN Chicago. Ah, Every line is lit. He calls them out. Because yesterday we were trying to talk socks. Don't get a lot of calls with the Bears. And whom every line school Well, you know, the bears drive the bus, but it right now. There's two first place baseball teams in town, the White Sox beating their rival in the first of three. It feels good as a white side span, someone who grew up 20 minutes to the ballpark. Of Comiskey Park. So happy because just like you can't stand the cardinal's I can't stand the twins. I can't stand Peronnas baby can't stand them because because they've been good for a long time Now. Hopefully this is the socks turn to be able to turn the tide here. 3123323776 Marcella is on the south side of the Great city of Chicago, Marcela. Good morning. Good morning. Are you doing I'm doing good. I love you Hooding. I love you Always listen to you in the evening and that you were capped The diehards show fans are the best. Thank you. So I'm calling it for three reasons. One I love Jose of radio. I think that he is definitely EVP for this year. Some of those votes that he's been digging out. Tim Anderson has been a little bit inconsistent has been tremendous, and there's no way we don't win has been against we do if we didn't have a very My second thing that I would like to point out is that I love the addition of a young scientist back to the team because I think he brings a little bit more fun. Plus, he's outstanding in the field for so many different positions in a way that is a very, very astute observation, like sometimes the smallest move that you make Jarrod Dyson. Speed Yammer Sanchez glove. Those were the bag is not necessarily about the number one or number five guy cap. Sometimes about the guy at the end of the bench, they could do intangibles for you. Yo, Mercan do that for the member Cody Ross. He was M B B of the World Series when they got a Maryland who Then he beast it out. Always a little glum. It's the little things right? Correct that third and final point, But I guess you know, we're gonna let you go because I gotta go to work and not to 94 Final point in. He's as finally are talking about the White Sox in the morning. You gave us a team that we could talk about. You know, I've been talking about forever, Marcela. But you never know. And we're here for unity. We're talking about now. There you go. Have a great day, Marcello. You guys, too, By the way, one of the unity tattoo. I think I'll be on my next week. Good about not at that. Really cinch is up for the show. Just was sidebar to what she's talking about. With the Bre U. I thought at the time there was he's a free agent. I said, you know, the socks should sign them. People thought a long in the tooth. Really a D. H in the future. He's this generation's Kaneko. He means that much to the white side. It does so at first base, maybe his future's of D H at some point down the line, but he is, I think that glue to the White Sox on so I'm glad he's still with the team glad the stock signed him back to the phones. John's on the north side of the city. Hey, John. I can't I already What's up, brother? I'm loving you guys appreciate the way this has been a sax dance since the early fifties, and I've been an usher there for 15 years now and I am so excited with these guys. My favorite player in my whole life was Willie Mays. And right now I see Luis Robert Right there with him. I mean, the little things he does like the catch in the outfield, the spin around turn throat of the basis the way he could hit in clutch positions. He has the entire game. So excited that he's with us and at least for 45 years. It's just the best thing. This is great. It's a lot of fun, man. And you're talking to a cubs fan here. I've never hidden that. But I've tried to bring this unity. Thought I'm having a lot of fun watching the whites and so and so am I. Because this has been a long time coming. John still will beat your ass when the Cubs play you got tell you what I've been ushered regally for 18 years, too, so I grew to like them, too. Don't get me wrong. They were exciting. But if the dial's turned its turned right now, so kept You will be with us in a short time. Trust me. Well, I'm cheering for you. I was on the phone, my brother. And thanks for the call My brother last night. I was like, Yeah, I saw your true colors during the serious when we beat you And I said, Yeah. Cause I bleed Cubbie Blue. I'm a die hard, but this team, this white sacks team. I enjoy a lot. I do, too, because of the infusion of young talent, and by the way, Welcome to the season. Mazzara, a couple of clutch hits. Here's a guy here they went to for three yesterday with run couple RV eyes, Mazar is really again. We tell our gravy right when he was signed, I thought, you know this will be decent. He's not going to be what a lawyer brings. That would Tim Anderson brings that's fine. But as good for him to be able come through last night against the Twins were happy about that ESPN dot com Moments ago released the MLB power rankings Now you'll be happy to know that both our teams in this town are in the top 10. Do you think the socks or the Cubs are ranked higher socks should be dropped. The socks should be ranked higher than the Cubs. Currently, the Cubs are ranked seventh in your white socks are ranked eight. All right. Get to the phone lines. We go should been breaking news, but rideshare rob, but you want to sound er big, Good, right? It's breaking news. But it is insulting. You ever watch the news? Everything's breaking. That is true. But I'm not gonna lie. The thought did cross my mind, but I don't want to be a little loose with that. But if it's funny that it is Then it loses. When you actually hear it. Then it loses its. Yeah. You got something developing story? Corona virus? Yeah, it's been developing for eight months. "Like that Vintage White Sox games from Comiskey Park from back in the day that jersey and they still ruled out there every Sunday. So I'm Ah big fan of that. That's like Josie. I remember as a kid and you wear proudly when you go to socks. Can I do that? It's it's Ah, It probably gets more weekly at the house still like I were around and the problem with those jerseys, and I'm not sure how they played with it. Their thick gets a hot jersey to be out there in the middle of the summer. I got a rapid, so I do Good. I couldn't imagine running around playing. And like that highlight was Carlton Fisk catching with all the gear and everything else on things thick. Yeah. Yes. Yes, it is. Josh is an Edison Park on the baseball show on ESPN. 1000 Josh Hey, I'm going good was give us an old school jersey that you really liked her did not like for baseball. So, so I think you kind of beat me to it that that White Sox won Macomb, but they're white. That's got that, like Red Sox across the chest. That was pretty cool. And another one. I would have to say it's probably that like early 2000 Arizona Diamondbacks picture like Lady Johnson growing out there with that, like purplish make around. Yes, those two. I appreciate your phone call, because that is the snake going up the side of the A. It was the green A with Gold around the eh? The outline of the A, and, of course, is just the white pinstripes and like the blues, the purple sleeves ahead. That was it in a weird look back in the day, but but any time that you have an expansion team that's been around for a while, you just kind of just look at that jersey. So you know what No one else has. I'm going to buy it. I'll give an example. I've already bought a Seattle crack in T shirt. I'm with you on that that logo. I like the mask out of crackers. And the whole thing is cool. And like every time a new team comes out like thes de back uniforms, they're always throw in some unique colors that you don't see. So we had like a purple and turquoise color combination. For that deep actors that you don't see that it's crazy. Another thing I like about those jerseys is ah, You don't see too many. I think the red still wearing but not too many other teams were the vest with the T shirt underneath. And that the big units got the white with the purple sleeves. So that's Yeah. You know what the Reds do still rock there from time to time, But I think they're the one of the fuse that still do. He's been out there with virtually nothing. They're not punching bags, and this is not okay. It's a felony assault. And all these people need to go to jail. So when when I hear people screaming about, you know, what are the feds doing about You know, gun trafficking into Chicago? My question is, What is Kim Foxx doing about people who we lack up with those guns? And I already know the answer is nothing. Hope and great No one. Everything has an effect on everything else. And when the police are on their heels, the criminals are emboldened. I've been talking about this for years, and that's where we are in a really bad place. Well, yeah, Gary, you're You're right. We absolutely are. And I I I don't Ever want to be accused, or just for my own? Sanity. I don't want to be one who creates a panic when there isn't one, but I agree with you that we are in a bad place and I will go back to what you said about the Cook County state's attorney because we had that heater case last week of the five year old to get shot while there was another guy out, you know, shooting at some other adults on in near North Side. Police chasing twos. They grab up the guy of your foot chase after he drove all the way down to near Comiskey Park, guaranteed right. There is That guy gets home held without bail because it was a heater case. But there were a dozen other gun cases that night and those guys walk right back out, and that Is not sustainable. "Would have brought this record to Comiskey Park that night. You only had to pay a thank you for the texts on this. You only have to pay a 98 cent. Admission into the ballpark that that's how that works. Because the loop the radio station with Stephen Gary, did they pay for the rest of it? It was a promotional thing. 98 90 0 98 7 So, Yeah, you know, one of the most famous radio promotions of all time. Happy anniversary, Famous or infamous depending on how you look at it. Yes, yes, indeed. Um So when? Ah, right around that same period 20 I don't know if you remember this on the old wfor where we worked. They were doing a contest in which you could you could win the opportunity to go into a little, certainly glass. Or plexiglass box and in the box was $1 million in cash. And you you had. I think we think we give the people 103.5 minutes seconds to be in that booth with the $1,000,000 you grab as much as you could. But I have a vague memory of that. But the money was strategically placed in this booth. So They, you know, guaranteed that nobody would get more than a couple of $1000. I have a vague memory that I wasn't at the station yet At that time, That's the big promotion that we were doing. But somebody made a mistake and how they place the money. Inside on the box and they would have found it. Somebody wound up getting like, I don't know Couple of 100,000 something that the station had not. Budgeted crazy, John, Where you calling from John? Good morning, Gene. I am driving an Indiana right now. Nice. Nice to have you with us. You are actually at disco Demolition? Yeah, I was about 10 or 11 years old with my older sister and older brother. It was crowded as head and the thing that I remember most was some guy getting violently l into a garbage can that way. Oh, see you smart sister back on the bus back to the South side. Oh, boy. It was It was bizarre. Did you bring disco records in order to get the reduced admission? Probably just a drag along because nobody was home to watch me. So my sister said you're going with that. Yeah. I'm the youngest of four boys. I completely understand that feeling. Yeah, I'm number six out of seven. And you were told And you don't get hit. Do you remember? Do you remember seeing Stephen Gary on the field? They They had are like army helmets on. I mean, it was like, you know, they were. They were staging a whole big deal. I vaguely remember that I just remember tons of people just walking onto the field, and it was Waterline, chaos and chest. It was the strangest thing and it just shows you were things stick in your mind for decades, so that you remember a guy puking into the garbage. Can you know? I can't remember. Somebody's remember that e even harder to believe John is that it was 40 one's here, sir. Go. Okay. Batteries in my head. I'm still you know, under the age of 30 but the calendars Eli on that, too. I know it when you it doesn't seem like that. That much time could have possibly gone by, right. Serious calendar keeps moving faster every decade. It's very truly Thanks for coming, John. So about 20 plus years ago, I, uh, got into the air force and I had to get in my car and drive from southwest Ohio out to California. Hey, EMS Along the way. I just was taking pictures of everything. And when I got out to the West Coast and looked at my 35 million I made her film that I had to get processed. After sore. I noticed I took a couple pictures of football stadiums along the way. Along with everything else in between Ohio in California in so that has started a life long. Um, I don't know what you call it. It's definitely a consuming project. And my poor wife and daughters get dragged to now every stadium, so my goal is to get every NFL stadium and every Division one, a football stadium holding now currently sitting at 115. "Johnnie Putman the WGN radio you know that's one of the few regrets I have so far I saw the Beatles live at Comiskey park I saw Elvis several times never got to see Sinatra have seen Tony Bennett many times but have not seen Springsteen live and unfortunately I don't know that I ever will only because I am less than enamored of huge crowd has huge stadiums where there's these tiny speck my way I would rather sit and watch close up on the TV yeah yeah but that's why we enjoy going to the city winery in Chicago absolutely love that band you and our hands down favorite venue is space space of Evanston absolutely out of a reason to get up there hits it's it's a listening room that's nice about really is we are talking patcher Crispin got a few more minutes with Patrick talking about what we're calling new year's tech resolutions things that you should be doing and we talked about your passwords and protecting your passwords and changing your passwords and Patrick I I listener Texan says if last pass sets up its own passwords what happens when you have to log on to the side on your cell phone something certain what it may be it's G. the website you log into is is incorrect H. T. T. P. S. so when you try to log in the information that you type in your browser or even on your on your cell phone use in cryptid as sick leave your car your device to doubt and then it's unencrypted certain it's not doing anything in the clear so nobody can be a man in the middle and kind of pick up your password okay can set up a really good password and turn on two factor authentication you're you're golden yeah it it's as good as Fort Knox so so basically whether it is your computer or your cell phone or whatever you type in the really good password as you go to last pass and it then allows you to get to whatever site you need to get to on your phone on your computer on your whatever and it keeps you log in to LastPass for like thirty days before you have to log in again so it and I it's just a browser added and so you know now anytime I go to website it'll automatically say opening again that's all I have to read through any password our listers says this is from a three three one area code a what anti virus software is Patrick recommended these days I need a really really big fan of so close home and that's the only yes SO P. S. O. S. yes so close to home it is a free version of their enterprise software which they're selling to major companies they just figured well we'll mice will get away to help users as well okay so if you go to that site you're looking for the free version and and and you can forgive me but there are people that are as you're talking you're talking big voice in saying what is that again so so follows home is the version that you're looking to and that's the free version cool okay that's it up before we wrap this up for a couple seconds let's touch again and something that we touched on what we talked a few weeks ago windows seven going bye bye in January and it doesn't mean that your windows seven computer will never work it means that you don't want your windows seven computer to be on the internet and be hackable because there will be no more Microsoft updates am I correct on that yet come January fourteenth Microsoft is gonna stop putting out any more security patches for windows seven and expect between now and January fourteenth a lot of monster kitchen sink catcher Twitter they're going to get getting things out the door.

"All right my I have my story I'm ready to share it this one is from one thousand nine hundred seventy nine awesome this one comes out of Chicago and it's definitely a sign of the Times type of story all right the title is Anti Disco Demonstration takes over Chicago White Sox Game Whoa Okay so obviously it's in Chicago and the story Goes something like this thousands of unruly spectators set bonfires and slung record albums on the playing field at Comiskey Park Thursday night during an anti disco demonstration police in riot gear finally restored order about an hour after the melee erupted about thirty five police officers wearing blue helmets with face visors and carrying riot batons marched through the outfield to clear off stragglers from a mob that originally numbered about seven thousand a handful spectators were taken from the field in handcuffs. A police spokesman said we are making arrests the incident forced Umpires to call off the second game of a doubleheader between the Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers White Sox officials issued rain checks and scheduled a doubleheader for Sunday to make up the game but said American League President Lee macphail mcphail mcphail let's say mcphail Yeah President Lee macphail still could declare the game forfeit with Detroit being the winner Detroit managers Mark Anderson had announced his team would play the second game under protest because of the condition of the field which was pockmarked from numerous Bonfires White Sox owner Bill v the veteran promoter addressed them off from a microphone place behind home plate but failed to win their attention during the break between Games W. L. UP DISC Jockey Steve Doll get rather thousands of the disco records and pack them into a large wooden box in center field after denouncing the popular dance music doll detonated an explosive charge cent pieces of the records flying across the field shortly thereafter a handful of bare-chested youths from the Centerfield stands climb the wall and ran on the playing field they were followed by hundreds then thousands of others and that's the whole story I declare this this season winner right right from the get right from the get man fantastic pretty prices Yeah where do we start with this I guess piece wise I mean let's go through the day right okay okay these people buy tickets to a double header yeah that's true they're going to Kaminsky and they're going to see the Tigers and the white socks and the socks right yeah they get through the first game and then right after the end the first game a radio. Dj managed to get a crate full of disco records out into Centerfield and he starts protesting essentially the very existence of disco he denounces that's what the article says so a pissed off. Dj Essentially starts all of this somehow gets Mike Dangerous Business Given People Mike's yeah definite Leon. We are a true testament to that aren't we apparently and he's got his crate full of disco records which he then detonates he explodes it in Centerfield sending shards and chunks of disco records all over the place okay number one this guy's nuts right yeah I mean he's definitely a seventies version the troll Oh hardcore yeah I love it though so the guy's name is Steve the DJ and after his little display all of these fans in Centerfield stands decide to jump down on the field and then essentially pretty much like a mini demonstration slash riot starts happening to the point that the field is destroyed and they need to cancel the second game in the doubleheader that's great honestly like you you can't you can't make up stories that seriously I can't even imagine this happening no especially today modern context I think is going to be fun to go through yeah but for the people that were there were modern context for people in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine they must have been just absolutely floored by this right yeah but I think there was a lot of people who are excited ready to do this yeah disco was definitely a short-lived love right loved it or you hate it the hate for though at that particular time a super thick I agree there is the advent of like heavy metal you know like especially like eighties hair metal there's a lot of animosity from rock and rollers against disco you know what I mean and so this Guy Steve is actually league putting on a display of destroying disco very overt that's pretty gutsy right bold move yet comiskey park it's not a small venue super public you're on TV man yeah he's just putting himself out there like that like this is me aggressively hating disco yeah to the point that I need an explosive like there's is that I feel like that about but I I just won't do it in action I don't think I've ever balloon something up because I didn't care for I've had like projects that I've worked on like you know what I'm doing with this and I just wanted to blow it up yeah but you wanted to blow it up yeah Steve went and got explosives he acted and then put them all in a crate with the thing he wanted to destroy three it's insane I it's it's but it's a great story it is it's kind of a short and sweet type thing right yeah and then the people going in their writing what are they doing are they digging up grass I think they're probably going in like stomping further on the burning melting records. Yeah definitely when they see that Saturday night fever soundtrack yeah this is hardcore down with discs Oh situation right sure and you know they're they're sox fans are white sox fans at Comiskey Park so they're pretty passionate already about things in general the White Sox fans go heart and their alcohol fueled more than likely RIGHT UH-HUH I mean they're way out in Centerfield so they're there for the game but they're there for the variance and that just that experience just got augmented yeah hardcore compounded by the fact that Steve just blew something up in the middle of the field in front of them any reports of injuries no reports of injuries that I saw the only real fallout was the rescheduling okay you know the commissioner was like obviously we need reschedule this he pushed it out to the next available game day and even the Tigers coach didn't like the situation because the field had gotten basically sampled destroyed by this act yeah that's that's pretty reasonable for him to not want that you know what I mean he said he would play but that they were GonNa plane protests right I think that totally within his right to say sure yeah I don't disagree with that at all crazy to think though that even after this like there was any kind of continuation like any kind of normalcy right like eggs yeah yeah let's talk about next week you noted that exactly you go into the next game it doesn't matter when the next game is right at the last game that was the disco destruction game imagine being a season ticket holder yeah exactly I mean look let's say that you are hardcore baseball fan and that's what you're there yeah I mean this is kind of ruining your night yeah man you're you're night was over the moment that Dj took over you just bought an second hotdog yeah maybe other beer and years literally you're settling in for the long haul and his doubleheader but here comes Steve and here comes steve with a crate random cre- of who knows what I want to know what their background music yeah burn baby bird that's probably the perfect yeah disco inferno it would be very appropriate yeah I would like to know his speech included what do you think he would say oh my gosh I feel like there'd be profanity it'd be profanity laced well he totally be not like ragging on disco absolutely and he's a DJ so he's probably going to say that it's like Horrible former music if he wants to consider it Music Yeah and he's going to say that it's just like rhythmic and repetitive and all that kind of stuff he might even make fun of the people who listen to it oh see that gets hurtful right does a little bit Steve may not have come out to popular from this thing yeah Dj Steve might have gotten fired sure why not you know what I mean there were like Whoa man winning tell you to go that far with the disco hate destruction operative right buying an explosive or building an explosive he's made an enemy of the out of the MLB that's for sure yeah definitely I mean okay maybe the you weren't like the giant Ganic powerhouse that we know the MLB as now yeah but he exploded a crate full of stuff in the middle of the field in the middle of Comiskey Park I mean I don't know man it's a day that will go down in infamy but also legend depending on who you're ask that's true for the anti disco p book they're like rock yeah they're rocky mountains making songs about it yes steve is now the new hero absolutely for the disco people they're hurt yeah they definitely have hurt feelings at the very least their feels I think the victims in this are the baseball people yes I think that the the biggest victims are actually attendee he's the actual attendees for the actual Game Yeah Yeah Yeah I mean they paid money you know they were double header they pay good money for a doubleheader some snacks and back then is a good game the Tigers and the white sox rivalry and they missed out yeah all because of DJ Steve Dj Steve's dislike for disco we have to see if this is on youtube.

"City, Chicago's best, ten cigarette for the latest shopping, entertainment, and events on C Chicago. That's ten thirty on WGN TV, but just this note about the weather. It's not fair to blame the weatherman or the weather apps, but I've never been angrier whether apps and weathermen than I am this summer. Why? Because they're wrong all the time. Yeah, I know why they are. Because like we had the tremendous rain and hailstorm yesterday around five or six o'clock in the evening on the north side of Chicago, where I live. My son was in displays he said, it's sunny here. Yeah. I mean the weatherman is forecast for both people in a less about twenty five minutes. I want him to say, hey, John, for twenty five minutes hell's going to break loose on your patio daisies, poop, that is back future partout, right? Doesn't doesn't have the, the watch tells him it's going to rain in approximately two minutes and tells them when it's gonna stop and I guess that technology exists these block by block things. But none of it seems to be right to me. Well, you raise some concerns to me about the weather that you're seeing the temperatures you're we might have to triangulate this a little bit because. Yeah, I'm seeing all from WGN TV ninety one degrees for the high eighty six right now my the app on my phone, which is, why are you laughing at me? This is what? I know seventy six same thing. It's my phone says it's going to get up to seventy eight today. And I'm like, hey, we're going to be at the ballgame. This'll be great. I've heard some of the other local websites of the local media outlets, and they aren't nearly as high, but they say the humidity will make it feel like ninety degrees, but they're still in the upper seventies low eighties right now I got seventy eight a high I've got seventy six on my phone. What I want to know is what's it gonna be center field at Comiskey park today at three thirty parks long gone, my friend. That's what I wanna know. I wanna wet it's going to be where I am in that spot. I haven't image of you in my head like sitting outside and a beautiful park on the most gorgeous day, just furious.

"And usually, I start with childhood, and what kind of kid people were, but I want to start even younger because obviously, when you were born is when a lot of very formative things happened in your life. I want to start even before when your dad and mom were at the White Sox game because this is a precursor till later in life, the job that you do. And somehow your dad ended up in the hospital from a trip to Comiskey park. Yes. So they were walking, I believe to the ballpark. They hadn't gotten to the ballpark yet this. It has to be your first interview that started with a falling piece of a building. I so were were unicorns already. My parents are, are walking to the ballpark as the story goes. And a piece of a building falls down as evidently, it's prone to do and hits my dad and he ends up in the hospital. So as I believe the story goes, they never ended up making it to the game. And then he ends up in the hospital while my mom was, was pregnant with me, and he's okay. He ended up being totally fine. No real major chronic issues after that. But it's like a reverse Allman, I think, like something really bad happened on the way to a White Sox game. And then something really good happened for me. And then my parents on the way to White Sox games later on. So I assumed it was Comiskey park that was falling apart, but it was just a neighboring building. So that is what what's funny about that? I actually didn't I knew he was in the hospital. I knew a piece of a building fell off. But I didn't know what building it was. And right when I got the White Sox job. One of the reporters in town had talked to my parents, and I got a text from the reporter who said your dad told me the story about getting hit with the brick at Comiskey. And so I got I got this I woke up in the morning. I got this text, I called my dad, I was like, what are you doing? I'm going to get fired before. I've even called a game you are insane. And he was like, no, no, no, no, no. I didn't know it didn't fall off of Comiskey. Like we're not suing the White Sox. It was on the way to a game. So I actually thought that was the case as well as the story went, but it no longer it. No longer scares me like that. It was it wasn't the actual story. But the text I got from the reporter. I was like, did I not know that this happened? Your dad change the story when you got the job because. Yeah. I mean by building what an act of subterfuge, wouldn't be out of the question for him because he grew up a cubs fan. Smart man. Very smart, man. Whoa, whoa. No. Pleasant here. Yeah. "Screens and even the jumbotrons. Nowadays are, are distractive as well right now. Really control. I'm speechless. And my lost of words. Thing a father, two, boys. On the whole stadium. Again, I wanna put a net around the whole stadium. Now, this happened in Houston, last night, mad and offered L Maura a chance to come out of the game after the fourth inning. But after taking a few minutes of the call bows to compose himself he said he wanted to stay in. He did get hugged as you heard by the, the, the audio clips of the play by play. He was hugged by a security guard after getting update on a little girl. But you know there's another situation. I saw somebody almost fall out of the upper deck at old, Comiskey park on the south side years ago, but that was part of a brawl and, you know, one guy was going after another guy and lost his balance went down the steps. I think it was old Comiskey it might have been the new part because that's a pretty steep upper deck. I'm looking at one report Jon that says from WGN has her down as a four year old girl you're asking. I heard somebody talk to my you're there, you know, she was four but yeah, I've seen that incident way back when Wrigley field when I was when my father this, I think you were running down the hall at that time, but I saw a woman, get hit older woman, and she wasn't on a smartphone in those days, it was too fast to get your hands up. And, and then a no no. I saw an elderly man get hit. And then he went down, boom done, you know. And then as he was being tended to his wife was so distraught that she went down, and they had to take them both out on stretchers at Wrigley. So I do you is once a season to. He a pitcher also get right back in the face to, and I'm a believer that in little league baseball which I used to coach. My son was playing it. I do think pitchers should wear face guards at the very least if that helmets because they can't defend themselves against those comebacker we've all seen that. Now those are pros. But if you're sitting in the seats for God's sakes pay attention, especially. Up in up to first base side, and they end the third base side. You can't be looking down at your phone as there's a banner in the veterans box, because it's coming way too fast for even a stop. Probably get your hands up if you see it, right. Let alone. If you're, you're distracted had put down the phone and keep your head on a swivel. I hate these phones. Are they going to stick around? Do you think cellphones with this is to transitory technology? I really don't have to become accustomed to say. This is going to be a chip in your head. John just just come to come to the reality. So the chip will go from us shoulder to my head. Maybe the next generation, maybe we'll miss it. Do you remember the days when there's a dial phone? I do. Of course. One. I started in the business and one phone in the house. And if you wanna talk to your girlfriend, take stretch the court into the bathroom, that's how I grew up and better days, and I used to want to school, every day, both ways uphill and we liked it. I ever went to as a kid was the White Sox game till we lost. That's pretty funny. Just have a bad experience. It was actually a good experience. I will say this is this is my issue. This has always been my issues Hershiser when they changed the name of the park when they called it. I don't know. What do they call it when you sell your soul, and what was it after Comiskey cellular field? So. Mri park. They turned into the cell and now it's the became Comiskey. Yeah. It sounds like a workout room. Comiskey? I got to work on my lattes. It is. Gee rates and she rate with a lovely giant red arrow pointed. Oh. The White Sox actually asked him if they wouldn't mind changing the logo, and they said, no, we're not going to do that the three zero once kudos Roger would a cool idea. They love the countdown with jerseys. Roger, thank you very much. The our friend a- Tracy says Chicago baseball, spring training is right around the corner for me and John's White Sox and Patty's cubs. Let's have a great season. I have like I said, I'm Jay baseball. I love baseball, Patty. Carlos may was the only player to wear his birthday on the back of his jersey may seventeenth. Oh, that's cool. Did you know that Roger you actually somewhat did post on my Facebook post that it was also his verdict seventeenth? Yeah. That's followers, become Wikipedia. So they'll just start fact checking spell checkers, thank you. We appreciate hostile wrong. And Jerry in Kansas as the entire AL central is rebuilding this year. So. So so we actually have a golden opportunity with the rebuild. Every team mostly is down except for probably the twins the twins and the Tigers are down royals are down. So you got an outside chance looking in with a little bit of hope. And that's the thing that gets me is the American League central at one point was the best dominant in baseball and then one year later, poof, not so great. Well, I'd argue that the year the White Sox won the World Series. They weren't the best team in baseball until the playoffs. Started his craft in which case they were on hit -able like just the most amazing stretch out of her seat in playoffs. Baseball in my life. How many full complete complete came starts in any World Series. We were eleven and one right? They were just trying to outdo one. Another and fed off each other. They had amazing energy was so much fun to watch. But at the end of that season they were trying to lose to the end. We were actually lagging that out. We we looked bad. Yeah. Terrible. And right. So it really doesn't matter. If you're good during the regular season as long as you're on fire you make the play offs. And that's the part that often miss. The key factor is the energy that I'm curious about. So rob is not impressed with the idea of getting Machado. What does it? What are your thoughts on that the highest free agency? Tags Machado and Harper. And I don't think Bryce Harper is the guy because he's going to do very well in the National League. He will he's going to have a whole swing in the American League. I'm just telling you fact, fact out Manny Machado in this team with John Jay and some other people that are Machado fans would gel and fit. He's gonna be your complete player. The thing is the price tag. So this comes down and Manny Machado and only manning Machado. Do you wanna lower your price tag hair? Go four or five years. You think you could bet on yourself, and you get a ring you're good. If you don't feel like you want to ring, and you only want the cash have had it, right? Yeah. This isn't the team for you. Exactly. I'm surprised. No one's talking about collusion. I mean, I'm serious. Monopoly. My way. Funny. Are we talk about all the time? But the baseball owners just don't want to give contracts and it screams collusion. Other side of collusion is economics. They're looking at what's happened. The last ten years, all these giant contracts. They're giving you guys later like two thirds through their career. It doesn't pay off pay off. You guys are both right in both regards. I think the key that we have to remember is a lot of teams really like what the the other teams like the Astros and the cubs and other people with youth. So when all these people are coming in now all those free agents are like, where's my paycheck? So you have a glut of youth and you have a ton of free agency. So I'm sorry. But your free agent price tag is. There's too many free agents in nano positions now. Yeah, I totally agree. I think the way to go is through rebuilding the farm system having more options, everybody's geyser a little bit disposable, frankly. They don't last that long even with and with guaranteed contracts year almost. Predisposed to not want to pay them that much money. I think Patty knows about this. It's like comics. You're like, yeah. You're not working on the Thursday. So good luck. I killed. I was awesome. Cutting the shows, right? You like what happened and then it just because someone else's coming in? So I see them as as two years ago three years ago, they would have gotten that money. No problem. And now they're like totally agree to to what and their money. Couple of questions. Well, first of all the three zero one, which I think is Maryland is our friends in Maryland says, hey, Patty, I just love them both you're so lucky to not only have one but two teams for many years. We didn't have any baseball team. And when we finally got when they stunk. Orioles Ono, get better. Eventually also, I wanna find out where now Elliott ni- our favorite place to watch cubs games. Especially in the postseason playoffs is at Murray's peaks pizzeria Lawrence because they have the even have a pianist player. Yes. Lovely then they'll do like, you know, should.
