"Take some calls on this subject of mayor lori lightfoot and crime in chicago in the wake of devastating police shooting this past weekend. Let's go to line three mike who's in chicago illinois. Hello mike hi. Thanks for taking my talk call. You're doing a great job. Say i'm not surprised at the mayor because she's been showing her true colors for years. She's always hated police. She hates christians west year. She sent the police. It's traffic aides to write tickets around churches that remained open and refused to close down private independent churches. She wouldn't let anyone go to comiskey park wingfield baseball games but she was in the paper sky box with her family. She could do things no one else can do. And they're the same. And i don't know if you know this but a week before. This police officer was tragically killed. It was on the internet but the local news for refuse to pick up. The police officers were attacked and beaten and they are afraid to pull their weapons out absolutely. I'm glad that you brought up that example mike because there was a similar incident just a few days ago in boston in front of the boston public library where police three police officers were brutally beaten by someone who they were wanting to arrest in who is of course resisting arrest. You are right. Mayor lightfoot does not care about police. Where is her outrage about this again. Just last thing that i played a video of her responding and she was just saying. Oh it's a very emotional time. Where is her outraged. She doesn't sound devastated or angry. Because she doesn't care

"Any mass looting of disco records just to destroy them. They're throwing away their own money and they're throwing away their own money on records that they know are not disco anecdotally at least seemed to be predominantly black records and then you get targeted as a in quotes disco lover. You have to try and show allegiance to another form of music to to your safety and we all know that as you just said that most of the ushers faces treatment and most of the ushers were black. What were your thoughts about the real. The underbelly of this evening will at the time. I just thought it would be okay if i can get to the east side of the dan ryan expressway because i felt pretty safe their stress. Enough the dan ryan expressway at thirty fifth street. There's a colorful. Allied where black residents live to the east of the expressway in white residents. Lives in the west so it was like. Hey let me get home. Back on. The east side of the dan ryan. In retrospect the fact that will save for in the projects then at the oldest baseball field in america. That's kinda jacked up. Looking in retrospect at the time disco demolition happened. The news wanted to talk about most was the fact that there was a forfeiture. I and the fact that the field got torn up and the fact that you know a group of people's culture got torn up you know wasn't even topic for discussion. I think that one person A reporter for rolling stone magazine pointed out but that was really the only press coverage that pointed to the fact that disco demolition was likely racist and homophobic. I think now looking at that. That's the most shocking shocking. At this point given the nature of the unrest in everything. That's going on in the country right now. I shouldn't say shocking. But i just think that it's clear that that's how things were then and we have indicators to stay that's how things are now and we can only hope for change as a path forward. I mean that's that's all we can do is hey. hey know. we'd like to see things be different but it seems that to the to the i that maybe they're just not. We've had similar news reports that focus on destruction of property when in fact it might have been much more appropriate to focus on the cultural implications of protests. Do you draw any parallels to what happened. Then in the media to what might have been the media coverage of for for instance. The black lives matter movement. I don't really have to draw any parallels because disco demolition celebrated the destruction of largely dot culture and demolition has been celebrated year after year after year by the white sox in the white sox organization at their baseball stadium. So i mean. Despite the fact that there's been commentary and despite the fact that there have been protests until last year the white sox continued to celebrate the anniversary of disco demolition. so i don't have to draw parallels from then to now because the fact that this behavior is accepted as good fung that's the statement in itself of course disco demolition night. Didn't get rid of disco music. It sound was adopted and and built upon by others genres. Where can we hear the influence of disco after. It was presumed to be dead killed that night. Maybe you know they said by and large you know disco. Music died that day and dance music carried on you know Where there were these huge shrines dancing and celebrating dance music and dance music. Culture moved underground loft parties you know impromptu warehouse events and stuff like that and I was working on music. I got that synthesizer eventually was working on records. That became the first house music records. Yeah let's talk about that. You and fellow producer. Jesse saunders released on in on nine eighty-four four so that's just five years. After this event you're still a young man age. Nineteen i guess. It's considered to be a pioneering song and house music. How did how did disco influence. What you were doing wasn't just disco. We were listening to in chicago. A weird mix of disco funk records. R&b italian imports experimental music like craft work and stuff like that. We were listening to him. Very eclectic mix of danceable music. There was fad gadget. There was records on south pole. Prelude along with james brown and heck rock lobster by the b fifty. Two's was in rotation at these team. Parties mostly attended by middle-class black kids on the south side. Really the music. We were making trying to capture the energy of these parties because these events were unique they were events for largely black teenagers thrown largely by black teenagers and We were all young entrepreneurs and i against instead of you know paper routes or taking people to their seats ball. I had gotten into the business of throwing parties for my friends. So records we were trying to make were kind of reflective of the energy from those parties just a quick aside. The origins of the term house as in house music are are are debated Some people think that it's Named after the chicago club the warehouse think it might be an attempt to replicate the music that we're playing house parties. Where do you think the name came from well. There were parties thrown in people's houses. Yes parties thrown at impromptu loft spaces that were available for menton such likes that we through our parties at a place called sours which was a german restaurant. We'll rent the restaurant and move all of the tables to one end of the restaurant to create this Stadium style within space where people could just dance and Yeah so a lot of the music that. Dj's like the chosen few. Were playing our records. That wayne williams was scouting from gay pardons like the din one and the warehouse and if we looked at the independent party seeing the warehouse was the epitome of that and people were really trying to capture the energy being laid down by frankie knuckles at the warehouse. So house music. The term comes from you know. As far as i can remember. The i i can remember was my friend. Hanes in reggie corner coming up to the dj saying hey man played music like they play at the warehouse and then that got shortened to warehouse music. You know we want to hear some warehouse to shortened again to you. Know played at house music. We're going to the house after this.

"Think the fact that you know, Chicago, you know, I don't want to be honest about it. Chicago had kind of a losing streak in some ways, the last half decade or so, and we still have two baseball teams. Now that means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, But you know, we're really the only A city that has two baseball team's in the city, Los Angeles writes. New York has teams in different boroughs. Ah, it's a whole different thing. And it means a lot now. This season, of course, is the disaster with the covert and perhaps we can get past these teams. They don't know what they're doing like ST Louis in Miami and finish the season and what would happen if both the Cubs in the white sex went deep into the playoffs. Oh, my God! Oh, my God! You still watch baseball? Oh, yes, I watch it. I don't follow pitch by pitch every inning. It kind of gets into your system that one of the one of things about baseball is it follows three of the season in the climate that we have most of the country and you know many public marked the seasons with baseball in baseball itself marks the seasons as well. I think you could do nothing. You people out there, listening. Getting tuning in before the pregame show Socks versus Cleveland, You could do nothing better than two in the next week or to get a copy of Comiskey Park's last world. It really is a good book They don't have Louis appreciate, but they seem to have a number of good young players. Fingers cross. Ladies and gentlemen, thanks for listening to the afternoon after hours. Any Dickinson in this Saturday Tribune. She's syndicated, of course, but that's where you were able to see it here in Chicago. Had a letter that she responded to it began this way. Dear Amy After 31 years with my spouse, I'm now dating. I'm a widower. Dating is a new thing for me. There is a guy with whom I thought I had reached a good report. He reached out to me last week expressing an interest in getting together over the weekend. I responded that I'd like that and gave him my availability. I never heard back from him. I thought maybe he had an emergency, and I texted him Sunday night just to confirm that he was okay, he replied, apologizing for the weekend, getting away from him and said that He had a work project do that next day. I respect the fact that he takes his work seriously, but I'm bothered that he did not let me know his weekend plans were changed. I may be old fashioned, but this situation just makes me think we're not as a line does. I thought to me a quick text. Letting me know he needed to cancel would have been common courtesy. I think he was telling me he's not interested. Is this How things work now where you don't really need to let someone know if you're opting out of previously stated plans where there is a question for the new Age. Is this how things work now? You don't need to let someone know. You're opting out of plans. Maybe I'm out of touch signed a dating newbie. Amy, I want to tell you your letters are always the best of the people. That Bond too. You are so thoughtful and articulate. You've told me before that you don't doctor the letters. That's the way they come in, right? Oh, yeah. No, I I will occasionally trim a letter but know I love I love the way people described their their problems. And this person actually think this letter was written by a man. Um Bring any. He thought he was old fashioned, but, you know I think of my response I said, Oh, yes, waiting by the phone. It has been ever though. You know, I remember waiting by the phone when I was a teenager in the 19 seventies. And my mother. I was right outside on the lawn within earshot. You know I could hear it and race in my mother came out and she said something to me and I will. I'll just never forget it and that really informed my response to this guy, she said. If this person wanted to be in touch with you. You would know it. He wouldn't have to wait. It would be very, very obvious and what she said. Was people do what they want to dio. And so for this person, my answer was basically he's just not that into you. First of all, they really didn't have firm plans. But if anybody was super into another person, if they had, Ah, work emergency, they'd let him know it's really easy to do. So The thing that concerns me is how often Um people supply excuses for another person. When really all they have to do is open your eyes and he was really, really happening and be brave enough to sort of face the truth. I understand that. I also understand, though the question at the very end of that, which is maybe almost a different launch point for a conversation or an inquiry, And that is, but are things different now, like if you were dating when you were dating, and now you're back out in the field, for whatever reason. What are the protocols? What of the norms? Whether the expectations to conversations just drop off on social media, and that's okay. Or should you expect to follow up and I didn't break my heart, But I understood this sort of Conundrum this person faces. They don't know the rules of the game. Now Amy Dickinson is thie. Ask any author, the syndicated advice columnist You read in the Chicago Tribune. We talked to her once in a while, although it's been a while since you and I connected Amy. I hope you're well and things were going good in your life. Everything. Fine, Thank thank And actually, I'm surprised that how many questions I'm getting regarding dating and I'm the mother of five. Young adults. So, um, I have learned that people are dating during the pandemic. They are creating a variety of what they seem to see a safeguard. But really aren't frankly. What do you mean by that? Well, um, for instance, Okay. One of my daughters has a male roommate and he said to her recently. Look, I'm going to start after break up. He said I'm going to start dating again. Um, and I intend to pay, you know different people. And, um so He and she are roommate. He's alerting her to this, but he's not really doing anything about it. You know, he's still coming into the house. He's still I mean, presumably not wearing a mask the entire time he's out with a new person. Coming and, you know, I think he feels like giving her a heads up is sort of the most He's prepared to do about that. Um, I think the pandemic raises lots of questions about dating. But the fact is People want to get out and meet people. I I get it. So we were talking about sort of have the rules changed, so I will say this job. As easy it is these days to connect. It's also so easy to disconnect, and I know you know about ghosting. Yeah, I know all the kids are doing it. Um, And this is where you basically drop off. You can play after you could be out with somebody that could involve a friendship dating relationship sibling or whatever you congee sailing along and you, then just stop. No contact. No response. No anything and this is very, very confusing to people. It's very confusing..

So, so I think you kind of beat me to it that that White Sox won Macomb, but they're white. That's got that, like Red Sox across the chest. That was pretty cool. And another one. I would have to say it's probably that like early 2000 Arizona Diamondbacks picture like Lady Johnson growing out there with that, like purplish make around. Yes, those two. I appreciate your phone call, because that is the snake going up the side of the A. It was the green A with Gold around the eh? The outline of the A, and, of course, is just the white pinstripes and like the blues, the purple sleeves ahead. That was it in a weird look back in the day, but but any time that you have an expansion team that's been around for a while, you just kind of just look at that jersey. So you know what No one else has. I'm going to buy it. I'll give an example. I've already bought a Seattle crack in T shirt. I'm with you on that that logo. I like the mask out of crackers. And the whole thing is cool. And like every time a new team comes out like thes de back uniforms, they're always throw in some unique colors that you don't see. So we had like a purple and turquoise color combination. For that deep actors that you don't see that it's crazy. Another thing I like about those jerseys is ah, You don't see too many. I think the red still wearing but not too many other teams were the vest with the T shirt underneath. And that the big units got the white with the purple sleeves. So that's Yeah. You know what the Reds do still rock there from time to time, But I think they're the one of the fuse that still do. "And usually, I start with childhood, and what kind of kid people were, but I want to start even younger because obviously, when you were born is when a lot of very formative things happened in your life. I want to start even before when your dad and mom were at the White Sox game because this is a precursor till later in life, the job that you do. And somehow your dad ended up in the hospital from a trip to Comiskey park. Yes. So they were walking, I believe to the ballpark. They hadn't gotten to the ballpark yet this. It has to be your first interview that started with a falling piece of a building. I so were were unicorns already. My parents are, are walking to the ballpark as the story goes. And a piece of a building falls down as evidently, it's prone to do and hits my dad and he ends up in the hospital. So as I believe the story goes, they never ended up making it to the game. And then he ends up in the hospital while my mom was, was pregnant with me, and he's okay. He ended up being totally fine. No real major chronic issues after that. But it's like a reverse Allman, I think, like something really bad happened on the way to a White Sox game. And then something really good happened for me. And then my parents on the way to White Sox games later on. So I assumed it was Comiskey park that was falling apart, but it was just a neighboring building. So that is what what's funny about that? I actually didn't I knew he was in the hospital. I knew a piece of a building fell off. But I didn't know what building it was. And right when I got the White Sox job. One of the reporters in town had talked to my parents, and I got a text from the reporter who said your dad told me the story about getting hit with the brick at Comiskey. And so I got I got this I woke up in the morning. I got this text, I called my dad, I was like, what are you doing? I'm going to get fired before. I've even called a game you are insane. And he was like, no, no, no, no, no. I didn't know it didn't fall off of Comiskey. Like we're not suing the White Sox. It was on the way to a game. So I actually thought that was the case as well as the story went, but it no longer it. No longer scares me like that. It was it wasn't the actual story. But the text I got from the reporter. I was like, did I not know that this happened? Your dad change the story when you got the job because. Yeah. I mean by building what an act of subterfuge, wouldn't be out of the question for him because he grew up a cubs fan. Smart man. Very smart, man. Whoa, whoa. No. Pleasant here. Yeah. I, I don't know what's happened..

"Screens and even the jumbotrons. Nowadays are, are distractive as well right now. Really control. I'm speechless. And my lost of words. Thing a father, two, boys. On the whole stadium. Again, I wanna put a net around the whole stadium. Now, this happened in Houston, last night, mad and offered L Maura a chance to come out of the game after the fourth inning. But after taking a few minutes of the call bows to compose himself he said he wanted to stay in. He did get hugged as you heard by the, the, the audio clips of the play by play. He was hugged by a security guard after getting update on a little girl. But you know there's another situation. I saw somebody almost fall out of the upper deck at old, Comiskey park on the south side years ago, but that was part of a brawl and, you know, one guy was going after another guy and lost his balance went down the steps. I think it was old Comiskey it might have been the new part because that's a pretty steep upper deck. I'm looking at one report Jon that says from WGN has her down as a four year old girl you're asking. I heard somebody talk to my you're there, you know, she was four but yeah, I've seen that incident way back when Wrigley field when I was when my father this, I think you were running down the hall at that time, but I saw a woman, get hit older woman, and she wasn't on a smartphone in those days, it was too fast to get your hands up. And, and then a no no. I saw an elderly man get hit. And then he went down, boom done, you know. And then as he was being tended to his wife was so distraught that she went down, and they had to take them both out on stretchers at Wrigley. So I do you is once a season to. He a pitcher also get right back in the face to, and I'm a believer that in little league baseball which I used to coach. My son was playing it. I do think pitchers should wear face guards at the very least if that helmets because they can't defend themselves against those comebacker we've all seen that. Now those are pros. But if you're sitting in the seats for God's sakes pay attention, especially. Up in up to first base side, and they end the third base side. You can't be looking down at your phone as there's a banner in the veterans box, because it's coming way too fast for even a stop. Probably get your hands up if you see it, right. Let alone. If you're, you're distracted had put down the phone and keep your head on a swivel. I hate these phones. Are they going to stick around? Do you think cellphones with this is to transitory technology? I really don't have to become accustomed to say. This is going to be a chip in your head. John just just come to come to the reality. So the chip will go from us shoulder to my head. Isn't that where old Comiskey was right? Yeah. Yeah. There's a little there's a bronze replica of home plate. That's kind of in the in the ground there, where home plate was, let's. Yeah. It's just it's just over yonder behind me back that way. Yeah. You said before Indy ran out of the studio, and he saw that I was feeling today. He had he had to get at least ten miles away from me. We'll take the ball for the cubs in the NBA playoffs yesterday in the Western Conference finals game. Three Golden State over Portland. One hundred ninety nine the worst out three nothing in that series NHL Stanley Cup playoff, the Western Conference final continues today, game, five blues and the sharks. So the series tied at two at the PGA championship Brooks kept seven lead heading into the final routes day and war of will wins the one hundred forty fourth running of the Preakness stakes the Pimlico. Racecourse that wasn't really the big story. No. There was a horse. There was a horse its jockey before the gate, basically that jockey went, I mean, he went at least four or five feet up in the air, that was scary and cool at the same time, bone express not to jockey. John Velazquez off his back right out of the gate and then ran the rest of the race with out a jockey. And he was doing pretty well. Yeah. I mean there's, there's a theory about the desert with the horse with no name the with a job. Well, he was several minutes to get the horse under control. Horseback in exactly he was running so. Well, we have to start to question the role of the jockey Jackie really make a difference. Indeed one horse was flying. We all we always had that debate here baseball games. You know how many wins? The jockey actually does on the back of a horse, and this is one of the most most interesting triple crowns, even though you know, there won't be a triple crown winner, obviously, but between the Kentucky Derby and the controversial elimination disqualification of Mexico. The maximum security, and now right out of the gate. A jockey gets thrown. I mean, I can't wait for the Belmont. Yeah. There are a couple of horses that were reacting to that, because that express was was acting very rational inside the self and then it got a couple of other horses as well. Yeah. And a couple of jockeys had a little rough, right? Out of the gate as well. And never never dull moment, at the at the sport of kings. No, it's the sport of kings, for sure. The they'll have the, the Belmont. It'll be the rap of the triple crown coming up in couple of weeks. I'm done by the way on the home of the Blackhawks White Sox and horse racing guru. We call the what's the nickname for the White Sox. Play the rate the rate. How do I how is that not top of mind for me? It's not the sell. I think call it. The Bank doesn't work for you. You know, what the Bank is what they call the football stadium in Minnesota. I think because that's Wells Fargo. I think so. Yeah. Maybe it's the rate the rate doesn't work for me. No, no. I I still call it Comiskey. What's that producer Ella? Oh, good. Yeah. Before we finish that actually, you know, who will know Andy meser will he's he's he's there. Hey, Andy, this is John. We're going to get it back then DJ for the lineups. "Okay. For for what it's worth. I mean, I grew up on the south side not far from from the original Comiskey park. And I mean and the very first baseball game. I ever went to as a kid was the White Sox game till we lost. That's pretty funny. Just have a bad experience. It was actually a good experience. I will say this is this is my issue. This has always been my issues Hershiser when they changed the name of the park when they called it. I don't know. What do they call it when you sell your soul, and what was it after Comiskey cellular field? So. Mri park. They turned into the cell and now it's the became Comiskey. Yeah. It sounds like a workout room. Comiskey? I got to work on my lattes. It is. Gee rates and she rate with a lovely giant red arrow pointed. Oh. The White Sox actually asked him if they wouldn't mind changing the logo, and they said, no, we're not going to do that the three zero once kudos Roger would a cool idea. They love the countdown with jerseys. Roger, thank you very much. The our friend a- Tracy says Chicago baseball, spring training is right around the corner for me and John's White Sox and Patty's cubs. Let's have a great season. I have like I said, I'm Jay baseball. I love baseball, Patty. Carlos may was the only player to wear his birthday on the back of his jersey may seventeenth. Oh, that's cool. Did you know that Roger you actually somewhat did post on my Facebook post that it was also his verdict seventeenth? Yeah. That's followers, become Wikipedia. So they'll just start fact checking spell checkers, thank you. We appreciate hostile wrong. And Jerry in Kansas as the entire AL central is rebuilding this year. So. So so we actually have a golden opportunity with the rebuild. Every team mostly is down except for probably the twins the twins and the Tigers are down royals are down. So you got an outside chance looking in with a little bit of hope. And that's the thing that gets me is the American League central at one point was the best dominant in baseball and then one year later, poof, not so great. Well, I'd argue that the year the White Sox won the World Series. They weren't the best team in baseball until the playoffs. Started his craft in which case they were on hit -able like just the most amazing stretch out of her seat in playoffs. Baseball in my life. How many full complete complete came starts in any World Series. We were eleven and one right? They were just trying to outdo one. Another and fed off each other. They had amazing energy was so much fun to watch. But at the end of that season they were trying to lose to the end. We were actually lagging that out. We we looked bad. Yeah. Terrible. And right. So it really doesn't matter. If you're good during the regular season as long as you're on fire you make the play offs. And that's the part that often miss. The key factor is the energy that I'm curious about. So rob is not impressed with the idea of getting Machado. What does it? What are your thoughts on that the highest free agency? Tags Machado and Harper. And I don't think Bryce Harper is the guy because he's going to do very well in the National League. He will he's going to have a whole swing in the American League. I'm just telling you fact, fact out Manny Machado in this team with John Jay and some other people that are Machado fans would gel and fit. He's gonna be your complete player. The thing is the price tag. So this comes down and Manny Machado and only manning Machado. Do you wanna lower your price tag hair? Go four or five years. You think you could bet on yourself, and you get a ring you're good. If you don't feel like you want to ring, and you only want the cash have had it, right? Yeah. This isn't the team for you. Exactly. I'm surprised. No one's talking about collusion. I mean, I'm serious. Monopoly. My way. Funny. Are we talk about all the time? But the baseball owners just don't want to give contracts and it screams collusion. Other side of collusion is economics. They're looking at what's happened. The last ten years, all these giant contracts. They're giving you guys later like two thirds through their career. It doesn't pay off pay off. You guys are both right in both regards. I think the key that we have to remember is a lot of teams really like what the the other teams like the Astros and the cubs and other people with youth. So when all these people are coming in now all those free agents are like, where's my paycheck? So you have a glut of youth and you have a ton of free agency. So I'm sorry. But your free agent price tag is. There's too many free agents in nano positions now. Yeah, I totally agree. I think the way to go is through rebuilding the farm system having more options, everybody's geyser a little bit disposable, frankly. They don't last that long even with and with guaranteed contracts year almost. Predisposed to not want to pay them that much money. I think Patty knows about this. It's like comics. You're like, yeah. You're not working on the Thursday. So good luck. I killed. I was awesome. Cutting the shows, right? You like what happened and then it just because someone else's coming in? So I see them as as two years ago three years ago, they would have gotten that money. No problem. And now they're like totally agree to to what and their money. Couple of questions. Well, first of all the three zero one, which I think is Maryland is our friends in Maryland says, hey, Patty, I just love them both you're so lucky to not only have one but two teams for many years. We didn't have any baseball team. And when we finally got when they stunk. Orioles Ono, get better. Eventually also, I wanna find out where now Elliott ni- our favorite place to watch cubs games. Especially in the postseason playoffs is at Murray's peaks pizzeria Lawrence because they have the even have a pianist player. Yes. Lovely then they'll do like, you know, should.

"There are two accounts of what happened when Jackson was offered his cut, and we should preface this by also addressing a claim by Charles Gandel after game four lefty Williams was given to envelopes each containing five thousand dollars cash. He took one for himself and brought the other one to Jackson Williams says that Jackson meekly accepted the money without saying word, but Jackson claims that he turned Williams down only to discover later that Williams had left the money in his hotel anyway. And this story about the nature of how Jackson came about that five thousand might be the key. To determining his innocence after the series ended rumors were already swirling that Eddie psychot- and some of the other players thrown the game. Jackson actually went to see Comiskey again, apparently to come clean about what he knew regarding the fix. Jackson waited for hours and was finally told that Comiskey was too busy to see him who knows how things might have played out if Comiskey had met Jackson on that day, maybe Comiskey's cozy relationship with the press could have gotten some or all of his players out of the jam. They were about to find themselves in maybe, but Comiskey was also an integral figure in the American baseball league. His reputation and fortune was intricately tied into baseball. Knowing what we know about the kind of man he was, I don't know if he would have lifted a finger to help Jackson Jackson in do himself any favors during the trial. Allegedly, on a number of occasions he'd get drunk and make light. Night calls to the presiding judge. Judge McDonald claiming to be innocent. That's not the best strategy. If you're trying to avoid a conviction, it ended up not mattering. We spoke last week about how key evidence including signed confessions from the players went missing during the trial, and we're not presented before the jury. It's important to distinguish here the jury's job was not to decide whether the players had been paid by gamblers, but to determine if any of the players had thrown the game, intentionally a court of law. This is kind of hard to determine beyond a reasonable doubt after all, how can you say that a player didn't just have a bad game that was the jury's ultimate verdict, and it led to all eight players being cleared of all charges. As we said, last episode, they're real punishment came in the following day's with newly appointed baseball Commissioner judge Landis declaring that all eight men were banned from professional baseball for life. Jackson would spend the rest of his. Life professing. His innocence one glaring piece of this puzzle is the Jackson's lawyer in this case wasn't actually his lawyer. It was Comiskey's lawyer. Alfred s Austrian who served as general counsel to the White Sox organization. Jackson's drunken calls to judgement. Donald apparently only occurred after Comiskey's lawyer Austrian had plied him with drinks in order to get him to fess up to play a role in the fix. Clearly, the plan didn't quite work. Perhaps Jackson really was innocent. Joe Jackson died in nineteen fifty three over fifty years later, his mission from the major league baseball hall of fame is seen as one of the greatest travesties in the sport in nineteen ninety nine. The US house of representatives passed a resolution that lauded Jackson's contribution to baseball and urge the MLB to consider lifting Jackson's ban so that he could be reinstated..
