"Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Mattis Cabin skits, 24. He died after being struck in the chest by a firework sitting in a hot tub at the coach's home over the weekend. Crazy man old man Haas hosting his daughter's Hawaiian theme wedding. It was a big get together big family gathering. A lot of the players were there and Something happened and it hit him in, and he and he died right there on some kind of a what a horrible story him in the chest, cause some kind of chest trauma and and gone it just just crazy. Crazy story. Yeah, he died. Let's see. This was happened in Detroit. The team's coach. Many legacy was, uh and it was just a horrible, horrible city 24 years. Young, now a spokesperson for the Oakland County Medical Examiner's office. Told the daily Mail that the the official cause of death was a fireworks, mortar blast chest trauma. Man Monday night. A minute of silence was held at the game before game for the Stanley Cup between the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Montreal Canadians. The National Hockey League family mourns the tragic passing of the Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Mattis. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends and teammates during this difficult time. And oh, man, we had a big fire over the weekend involving some illegal fireworks in Austin. A lot of injuries over this fourth of July holiday weekend, most of it do with gunfire. You know, we we we Shot off some fireworks, illegal fireworks ourself on because it was within the the the county lines and, uh, us and just about 100, other people in our neighborhood, and I don't know Not Many people respect that, that that that law but but because there's fireworks going off all around us, but I hadn't really been up close to fireworks in a few years. And some of the stuff we were at my niece's house and some of the stuff that was being fired off, honestly. Just sounds and feel you can feel it in your chest. When it goes up. Some of it just seems a little bit too powerful. What are you talking about? What do you mean? I mean it just the the the the the overall Uh, concussion feeling a little bit too much for your grand seemed like Well, now it just seems like that injuries like this would not be uncommon now. I mean, it's just they've gotten so powerful. So incredibly powerful. Let's say sound that they were hard to buy this weekend to man. They ran out quick because of that shortage of the fireworks supply. All of all, the fireworks come from China. They were sitting in the loading docks in California ended. Houston still in cargo containers, according to the guy was talking to their own supplies. We just have a tough time getting a material here getting product to the to the location, he said. But I noticed some of that We bought We shot up there at Lake McCann in the the images on the boxes in the containers. This is made in China, right? And this is this is one of the big, expensive ones. I think it cost just like $60. And there's like 40 rockets, and it is just it's just truly amazing. But are the images painted on the outside A. Is it had Abraham Lincoln writing a grizzly bear? Shooting an A R 15 into the air. That's that was beautiful man. That was beautiful. It was I was like, Yeah, that's Yeah. That's freedom of Lincoln Riding a grizzly bear shooting his ar 15. That was the declaration on the outside of the package. None of us feel more free than we do when we're riding on the back of a grizzly bear that that right none of us. You got that right? But you you're saying your What are you saying? Grandpa? You want some laws in the books to limit fireworks? What are you talking about? This morning? You say you want to Shut down six streets and now you want to limit fireworks? Well, you agreed with me on that a couple of weeks ago, but apparently you've abandoned that, But no, I have not abandoned that. I do not think we should shut down Sixth Street in the terms the way you're talking Well, what we need to do with sixth Street. Obviously, as we have to make it. The goal needs to be for businesses to be able to thrive. I don't know how businesses thrive down there at all More police. Yeah, absolutely wall to wall. But what do you want to do with fireworks? I'm not saying I'm not calling for a ban or Anything. I'm just this is the first time restrictions And if you know, I'm not calling for anything. I'm just saying, it's incredible How powerful I mean, we're listening. You know, around our neighborhood, it literally sounds like a war zone. It's incredible it is. I mean, it is an awesome sound. There's no doubt about it, but I was just kind of taking them back at when you get up close and personal with these Fireworks that you can buy yourself. It's like, Damn, Yeah, I mean, it's It's uh, it's strong. It's strong, but it is fun. I'll give you that. But you Have you seen? Some of the videos have been circulating over the weekend people pretty upset about fireworks being shot in neighborhoods. I mean, there's been tons of videos over the weekend of, uh, angry housewives coming out and screaming at the kids in the street or Clinton is screaming at the fathers in some cases. Yeah, mad at the fireworks. You've seen it, right? So you've seen some of these videos? No, but I don't doubt it very angry. Meanwhile, let me listen, if you've got pets, Sometimes your pets are a problem with the fireworks. So they have a problem with the fireworks, and some people get very emotional over that. It's just not what it used to be that you had firecrackers. You had bottle rockets, and you had Roman candles. And and so that's the little stuff. Yeah, but but it used to now it's stuff that it was that was that mortar fire or was that was out of firework? I'm not really sure what I just heard, but so I don't doubt Did you get scared? Not didn't get scared. Alright? You second just impressed. I was impressed, Uh, made an impression. Just told me you've got to be a little bit more careful these days. You might get an arm blown off. You know, I'm reading through the comments. Yeah, This is pretty interesting. I'm going to find this audio here because she was pretty upset. Yeah, that's that's a neighbor. That's a neighbor in the in the Ticktock world mad because everybody's on the street shooting fireworks, and that's how she handled it. She went out, screamed at him. She wanted to stop. It was very angry about that. Literally just screamed. Yeah, from the top of her lungs out with words just screams. Well, she was She was trying to scream louder than them, I guess, but it was, uh I want to. I want to play the audio, but she drops a few f bombs and as the explosives are going off behind, Oh, no, but she's really upset. You might have had a couple couple cocktails..

"Kept it alive. But boy, if you're the Columbus Blue Jackets head coach, John Photo RELA. Those plays gotta be executed. Just get it out of the zone. It's their top line lining had an opportunity to make a play out of the zone. He didn't do it. Defenseman trying to do too much. He couldn't get it out Black hawks and the Columbus Blue Jackets tied up 3 40 to go here. Son of Bergen 16 15 of the third period. Let's see if the Hawks Kendall can get the extra one here. That's a good time for your first goals. Ah Hock sure changes The complexion of things to Columbus now has two Become more of an offensive team. Instead of slipping back into that protect the lead mode that they're pretty good at. Well, they're gonna come at you now. So the Blackhawks gotta figure it out. You're Savard, right Point hawks sown for the slot and a backhand shot by Does Otto on a pad save is made by Lincoln, and then he covers the puck to the left of the crease with the glove and holds it. Here's a great example of that. Columbus is now going to play a little bit more offensive minded here and for the Blackhawks just tying this game up. You gotta just continue the MO mentum here. Get some emotion in your game, but I manage the park well and No. What you're supposed to be doing here. Mom, this is going to come at you. They haven't been. They've been kind of protecting this lead, but they'll change their mind set face off the left hand side of Lincoln and Man that's gonna be You suitor Facing off for the Hawks against Boone, Jenner. The jackets on the Hawks get control off the draw. The Han behind the net snaps that high off the glass to center ice warrants key in front of the Hawks bench gloves. "Give back Let's unite the world for good. We are lions, you can be to visit we served out or g'kar. As we continue on with the pregame show, we go behind the bench of Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Collison. And tonight, Jeremy the Blackhawks are back on home ice to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. The team is too old and three in their last five games, taking two out of a possible four points out of the two games in Nashville, with both of those games going to the extra session, and you've accrued points in five straight games, so going forward what we look to build on from that progression? Thought the defensive game was solid in Nashville, their particular the first two periods. We need to continue that continue the growth. They're just coming back home here. The urgency pressure on the puck Execution with the park. Those things can help us control the tempo of the game playing the offensive zone drop penalties just you know, it's important. We start on time, and we don't wait 10 minutes or a period to show the desperation that we need to win. You know, one so far, Shots on goal are concerned. The Predators got away a total of 81 shots over those two games down in Nashville. One of the boys need to do to bring that number down to a more acceptable level. Well, we need to sustain more his own time in the offensive zone. Protect the puck more, you know, forced them to defend that'll help. Obviously, I think In the second game. They had a lot of shots, but the chances were Well, we're solid, so that's important as well. If they are going to get sone time, making sure that we're good in our coverage, and we're sorting out, you know that who has sued down there and then when we do when the puck back Being quick to attack and being clean to attack so that they don't get 2nd 3rd 4th crack at it in our end, which typically that's where your breakdowns happen. All right, well, so you're younger players have been stepping up of late. It's been noticeable. Brandon Hagel, Philip Kirsch of and, Of course, Pew suitor of all been contributing in different ways. How great is it is the head coach to witness that progression and to see the team feed off their energy? Yeah, it's fun. No question, and she gives you a lot of excitement about The future. And, you know, certainly tonight what they can bring. But looking ahead next month, the month after The end of the season. We're going to keep getting better here as we go. We got a lot of young guys playing and playing minutes Z gonna help us. They're gonna improve and they're going to provide energy to the team and competition in depth and help us get to where we wanna go. You know, the Black Hawks organization went out and signed a veteran center and Carl Soderberg. He's 35 years old, but he seems to be in great shape, and he seems to be able to add to the mix. He's now played three games for the Hawks. How do you feel he's performed Yeah, It's uh, you know, he's still getting up to speed. I feel it's been it was tough with, you know, took us a long time to get him in, but he's a very professional. Guy. He understands how to play and where he's supposed to be. Compete level is excellent. He wins. A lot of 50 fifty's. That size is nice to add. Down the middle and you can play. You know both special teams. If we need it can be in big situations defensively, So you know, obviously we're down a couple centers, and he's gonna help fill that void. Okay. It's the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight in the first of two meetings over the weekend, and if you know, the Columbus Blue Jackets says, I know you do you know that they bring a lunch pail mentality to their games. They're known for winning games with hard work. They won't have Patrick Wine a available after the trade because immigration issues but that's really not for you to be concerned with, obviously, But what do your thoughts about the blue jackets and about how you'll need to be ready to play them tonight? Yeah, We know exactly what we're going to get what to expect. They're very tight. Structure, disciplined team. They're not going to give you a lot for free to make you come through five guys. Whenever they can. We gotta be prepared to match that work ethic. Be patient. Maybe it takes us, you know, 55 minutes to breakthrough. We've got to make them work for what they get and be sharp defensively and then have killer instinct when we do have been vulnerable, so it's a good challenge their their team that they're always in the mix because they don't beat themselves. I'm excited to see how we respond. Coming into training camp. People around the NHL that run talk shows and whatnot say they looked at the black card goaltending situation, and they said, Yeah, Malcolm Suban Colin Delia, and Who's That other guy, and that other guy was Kevin Lincoln and, and his name lately has been mentioned prominently on a number of NHL talk shows for a solid playing goal for the Blackhawks. Got points in all of his games. Too old and too, and I know he wants to keep that going. I don't know what your goaltending situation is going to be like tonight. That's part of the question. But has Lincoln and Splay made it a challenge for you as head coach in choosing your goaltender. Well, it's a good problem to have. He got multiple guys playing while Lincoln and we'll start tonight. The Gold Tang situation is it's a microcosm of how our team has been viewed, You know, not not a lot of people. Taken us down much success this year, and I think they've used that as Fuel to prove some people wrong. And that Zagat to be our mindset to is we're gonna We're gonna show that we're not going to quit here. We're gonna play hard. We're gonna be relentless. I will add it up the end. All right. Sounds like a plan. Jeremy. Thanks for this. And good luck to you. And the boys here tonight in the 1st 22 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Thank you. That's black Ox head coach Jeremy College and we've been behind the bench with Jeremy Collison. Stay tuned, more up coming in the pregame show right after you hear these messages. Jarmo Kekalainen on the Dubois-Laine Deal

"Always good when a major newsmaker joins the podcast. He is yarmouk kick elaine general manager of the columbus. Blue jackets Jahmil thanks so much for doing this. And i'm always curious about how deals come together. And maybe more specifically when deals and you know we know that there are other teams out. There obviously interested in pierre. Luke dubois in your mind. When was this trade over. Like at what point did you say. Okay i'm done. He's going to winnipeg jets by you. Gotta do your due diligence around the league and see what the interest level is and what type of options we have available. And we did that. We recommend order and you might make have to make a couple rounds a call system. Make sure that everybody who's interested. Got their opportunity to give their best shot and we did that as well. So it took a little while but You know we came to the conclusion there. After the last game that dubois played that we wanna do this sooner rather than later so we were pretty busy on friday working on that than saturday morning. We we were ready. And and now. We have patrick line and ross lubbock here. One thing that became clear to us on the outside. Is that you and kevin chevrolet off had discussed this for awhile that you kind of both knew that if you wanted to do this there was going to be the opportunity to do it. I'm curious caramel. How'd you guys known that you were each other's potential trade partners. If you needed to be we we had a good dialogue for a while and this is probably the best match right from the start. But as i said we had to do our diligence. And make sure that we've done our homework on every opportunity that might be out there and after we'd done that we return to talks with winnipeg several times and and wanted to make sure that all parts of the trade work for us as far as cap goes cash involved there other parts of the deal that we had to iron out once. We actually does hurdles. We were ready to pull the trigger on both sides. You describe what. It was like thursday night for us. I know what a incredibly competitive person. You are a lot of things. What was it like watching that. And can you talk about your discussions after the game that night. Internally internal talks always internal talks for me and a very serious about that but you know there are certain values that We have within our organization within our team in our locker room and we have a very demanding head coach who never compromised. Those values would never want him to compromise those values and i support him honor percent when he he does his coach in enforcing those values and it came to a point. Where were that wasn't a level of commitment to those values that was given by fearless dubois and that's why he was bent and i support the coach hundred percent on on that decision. Like i said after that. I think there's a little more urgency on our part to get this done and we're happy to move on with the two players that we like even if the trade hadn't occurred on saturday morning to the organization had pure luke dubois played his last game with the blue jackets. And what. I'm sort of getting at was anyway that he would have played saturday afternoon. No no you wasn't gonna play saturday but after that. It's the coach's decision on on all. He wants to handle the player. And there's no need to get into that but There's always a second chances and opportunities to redeem yourself as a player if you make a mistake or don't live up to the values that we hold strong ear but you have to show through your hard work in practice and and how you conduct your business in the locker room and within the team and I'm sure then. Our coach will always give him every player a second chance or an opportunity to show that. He's ready to live

"Edmondson by the Vegas Hold the nights A lot has happened to say the least since that lot off the ice. Changes have been made within the organization with the team. We're going to get to all of that. But Brian Hockey is back. How are you doing in your bubble? Well, you know, you couldn't even play a game of shooting in August, right? You can do that. Now. That's true. Yeah, so we're ready for is actually hockey hockey weather. And a lot had a lot of happened in the off season. Particularly here in town with our struggle. Blackhawks lot of off season moves in the front office. Maybe not, as many with the roster is the Hawks fans would hope, but we loved it. Find out Take the temperature of black vaccination on and see other feelings. First of all, I mean, you talk about a truncated preseason, you go from, like two days of conditioning to here we go and open up the season. A few days here, and it's a sprint 56 games over just over three months or so, basically playing every other day. Yeah, they have the NHL. Let's get 868 games. In 116 days as scheduled, and you never were already talking about it. There's already been a little issue with Dallas and so their first two games of Florida are postponed and Columbus Blue Jackets have 19 players, either because of covert protocols. Not all are positive, but they told 19 players toe Not hit the ice for a few days, so Study interesting because the bubble worked to perfection. The two bubbles during the playoff tournament. But now it's teams traveling and playing back to backs in each city that they travel to So you said, a compressed schedule and we'll see how smoothly it goes or.

"All right so last night as we've been talking about on the show it was a fantastic night for Columbus blue jacket fans and the Columbus blue jackets and boy corpus although I can't say enough about him and and his performance last night let's bring in the sideline reporter for reset reporter for foxsports Ohio in the Columbus blue jackets Dave Matt's old Matt's year in Detroit right now yes are not just Detroit it's beautiful downtown Detroit I mean if this place is phenomenal so last night let's start with last night boy I I don't know what the feeling was around there but boy it was really fun to watch corporate solid do its thing last night Hey look I'm not talking to I I want to forget about the rest of the team as well but let's face it they were quality parts flying at him all night long and this guy was just you know stop after stop after stop in the blue jackets they boy they just they cranked it up last night it was really really fun to watch Hey boys look towards has been saying for a couple of weeks that this isn't a five hundred hockey team because the goaltending and he meant that as a compliment your goal of corpus all he has kept this team in games that they otherwise has no business being in even at one nothing overtime loss in Pittsburgh after that game towards the quote this game could therefore nothing very easily in the favor of Pittsburgh but it wasn't because of course the last night might have been his best of the year if you go back up maybe a week before that Alaska because Washington that might have been his best game of the year until last night he's really plays at a really high level and and eliminated one of the big question marks right going into the season only what was it well I think you want to answer that question very very well yeah boy yeah it was again I saw you you talk to him but right after the game there and he just sees a he just seems like a cool customer man he just seems unfazed right now and I think last night maybe even a little more growing and and this is just based on I don't know that clearly you don't that that like what he was doing last night isn't something you just all the sudden discovered obviously it's there the talent is there he's got the chops and that was as good a performance of we've seen from Bob as far as what your listed last night especially when you consider the team and the people who are coming out of all night rolled out about and that's a really good way to characterize it through the first two periods Aliso basket at night job and they've also got a great second line which is centered bikers that soft yes you J. Oshie on that line yes Sir could run on that one Backstrom is the back in the lineup for for about a week or so so you're talking about a team that has five or six guys with four points then the blue jackets leading scorer that is really quite a lot of fire power coming at your school to someone last night all and I think and it's not because the guy asking me in posted it got to be almost personal between him and and that's good right Michael veterans like I would this guy was there with this guy yeah Jana stood tall on every shot he thinks it was really really fun to watch and really encouraging for the future of that goal tending position with the blue jackets no doubt about it second time only so far drops the gloves last year and I'm telling you man it was offer that goon Wilson and and him but basically what he Louis left is free to you he was he that that check was not a check that was a dirty shot in any more on that going on right now Meryl they'll be no trouble dental discipline for Tom Wilson even though he's left it like that and in even towards called after games like that needless yet yeah well why you with what you would do that at that point the game the game is already sealed up but yes savvy yeah I was talking about the are there some the game of life if you have a fight I can't remember him ever having a fight it won't be hold a third period there was his second time NHL fight he didn't even look like a fighter because he's not a fighter but the fact that he went back after Wilson after that cheap shot it was a really good side it builds a lot terms of team unity that kind of thing right in the sense of art is a big dude so he's gone Hey you know maybe even though he's not he's not a fighter but he's gone Hey pick on somebody a little bit more your own size and I I love it man him stand up like that that was that was really cool to actually see that and you're right I can't believe they're not going to do nothing's going to come down for Wilson especially when it's needless and clearly was frustration man they they're just they're helpless they're like why can't we can score on these guys it was making him crazy and it's not just core be I mean everybody is in the right place sticks in the right place I mean more deflecting were you know re direct I mean it was it was just crazy was the perfect storm last night yeah it much like the game a week prior in Washington there six were good there they were playing on their toes they scored only court made that stand up until they could add a little bit of insurance in the third period it was just all on one hand it make you say wow these guys are really played a great game on the other hand why don't you like this on more nights why do we have to suffer through games like we saw in Pittsburgh and to a certain extent an audible work they were facing at the pleaded team and could not score how does happen so I'm sure it's a little bit frustrating for the coaching staff as well but there's still time they they've got themselves we had a late fall will be here plays but there is still time they have to win tonight are you in our testing about this early but they have to win tonight or completely deflate what happened last night right when they got to come back Thursday and beat the kings way and get some momentum going here because I've got some games that should be what about games between now and Christmas thank god some guys who were called up last night too and will they be starting again tonight I would imagine well the good news about tonight is the best news is as accurate he comes back a week and a half earlier than anybody expected wow that's awesome he's going to come back in the lineup he's a Detroit kid obviously grew up rooting for the red wings that that was a one hundred percent blue jacket that'll really really be a nice addition especially with some of these injured injuries that they suffered in the in the Ottawa so yeah but you know listen you had that Kevin Stedman called up and Marco dental cold up with those guys well is there a work on the fourth one you have Eric Robinson who still learning the NHL game score a big goal last night off a great feat from Alexander text yearly towards talks about developing players these are young players who are developing right before our eyes and people like that I don't wanna you're developing other one who developing a what is your playoff push and all that kind of stuff but I think we're seeing a mix of it right now it's still hoping that they can make a push for a playoff spot and also developing some of these guys look at the stars of the of the blue jackets future well Elvis in that tonight hopefully he can get his first NHL win I know Corby needs the rest and you know hopefully if there's a time to actually play him I guess that would be versus the red wings but boy you know I I guess on any given night right yeah I'm not sure that's a hundred percent walk you know one of the people have assume dealt with the net but all this was skating this morning he was one of only two guys to skate the this morning he had called her wits and generally what a goaltender states in the morning he doesn't play that night so I think maybe it could be over but I'm only we but convinced but I'm it could be fifty fifty at this point from the starts and that's a nine nine coal that's all we'll be watching tonight for you obviously on Fox Sports Ohio what puck drops at seven correct I

"Most watched network. He's got a new line of hanker handkerchiefs out. He calls them Hanks ca chiefs I liked that. Why not right? Why not also he is a die hard kings fan. Congratulations. Columbus, blue jackets fans. Sweeping out the presidents trophy winners. Crazy the Pam Tampa Bay Lightning set a record or tie record for most points in regular season. Most wins, pardon me. Most wins in regular season sixty two I believe is a number and they set that record and go up three nothing on Columbus. In the first game. And don't win a game and the blue jackets advanced for the first time in their in their young history. And what a scene that was last night as an incredible scene. You know tight game. The the jackets are up three one Tampa Bay comes to tie it. Then they scored a go at four three two tight game. And then all of a sudden the roof caves and with a whole bunch of empty netter seven three final. And I don't know what to make of this real quick. I'll talk about this. We'll talk about it with Colin as well. It's not. I mean, the Columbus blue jackets, aren't you NBC? They're not a sixteen seed, right? There are seed their playoff team. They earn their spot and have been trying to get to the second round since they were born. But to sweep out. A presidents trophy. When it first time ever nobody's ever done that before not just any presidents trophy winner. Sixty two wins. That's significant. That is a huge upset a monster upset. And exciting. It's just playoff hockey. Really is just I'm I'm on the I'm always shoot you straight here. I don't watch much regular season hockey. "Like a nursery rhyme online, and she plays it on repeat before her animal whenever she's gone, and it calms her down. So that's that's pretty cool. I think that you have that you can do that find your voice, maybe find the voice of someone the dog or animal trust, and you just play it on repeat while you're gone. That's pretty interesting. That's that's pretty clever, MRs west side recommended. She said to me earlier, she said, turn on the stereo. And let's. Go up and down the dial on radio and see what kind of music Bruno likes will calms him down. Maybe it's maybe it's some rock maybe at some soft some soft day stuff. Maybe it's talk. I don't know. I said, no, I don't have time to do that. We didn't do that. Maybe it's classical or jazz. But to that point there's got to be something you could do to comfort your pet and not only your pet your think about those folks it's been awhile since I've had kids babies under the age one trying to put him down for a nap at this time of the day. What the hell do you do? Then. I mean, that's how do you get them down in? You know, how do you get them down and not only one year olds? But those especially three four five who know what's going on outside. Even remember. If that's any indication. I don't remember like. I'm trying to think of any real significant weather events. We would have had when they were younger. And I think when we had anything that was more serious. They were you know, middle school and up. So the last weather even I remember like this was hurricane. I can remember being was that what year was that that I came through? I remember I actually was on the other side of the building doing some work. And I heard something really loud outside the window and looked and it was a one of those trash cans outside the building. Here was big trash can things those that sit inside of a a unit there was blowing in blue right into the station vehicle ten years ago. There you go hurricane Ike at I remember driving home after leaving the radio station that kind of looked like a war zone, and it's kind of going to look a little bit like that. And some of the order neighborhoods now with significant trees because as Chris Allen told us a little while ago is with us live the grounds not frozen the ground is soaked. And with this kind of heavy. The wind could blow trees out of their out of their spot Blohm over on your property. Yeah. The last big a wind we had. I think I picked up the neighbor's trash cans by accident because they were blown all the way down the street. So I drove my truck down. It was just picking up trash cans as I went along. And was like, well, if anybody knows or if anybody's missing their trash cans, I mean, I'm the middle house, you know, where to find me I'll be glad to give them back to you. It's a weather event, we get horizon that again power outages across areas mother things in the news and the stories as following his certainly the Columbus. Blue jackets are in the news with what's going on with with the fact that they've acquired two new to new players, and your moa said we're gonna we're gonna make a run for this postseason the jackets clearly all in they've moved after sitting at the if they're sitting at the poker table, they moved all their chips all in to to take run at the postseason. "But we wanna pay jets just watching them this week with a really good performance against the against the Columbus, blue jackets where you know, a good hard game and the jackets came in their determined to play better after a poor outing and the jets out a way to win score two in the third period to win it, and then they just blew the doors off the Anaheim ducks. And you know, they're getting contributions from different even different people. Now, Jack Ross Vic who was American born kid was a I believe he was the first round draft pick. It's kind of finding his way and a big night against the ducks. Also had a good game against the blue jackets. So maybe he's joined grew merge. And they're getting a lot of this done without Baath one who's been hurt with contract line. I really kind of being in the flow. So I gotta figure on gonna come back in line. He's gonna figure it out. And you know, they had the experience one of the Western Conference final last year. They got a good goaltender Connor how about so? The one thing jets to me, or you know. They're going to be they're gonna be a tough team to be. Now, we've talked about this before how wide open the west is. But you know, we're getting closer to the trading deadline here, and I guess over the next three weeks things can be answer themselves. But I thinking suspicion things aren't gonna change all that much considering they've been this close pretty much all year long and everybody's played fifty plus games. What do you do if you're one of these teams like Anaheim Edmonton, Arizona? I mean, you're still there you're still within striking distance. Now. Do you do you make a move? Are you a buyer because you want to just get in and see if he can make a or do you look at it realistically and say rolling in this because the conference just isn't that great at the bottom? I'm not going to sit there and ruin my future on some kind of bogus one and done run in the postseason. I mean, look at you Kogyo. I mean, they were one of the worst teams in the league they're five points out of a playoff spot and they're playing tremendous hockey. They've won four in a row. So what are these general managers basically from Minnesota down to Chicago? Oh, what do they think right now on February fourth? Well, they'll it's gonna be hard for them. Because there's always that temptation, you want to you know, you wanna get in the playoffs because you know, once you get in it's been proven, you know, you can get on a little run and things could go well for you. And you could you could make some I think each case is different. I think you know, the team like Chicago that has had a lot of success in the last ten years one, three Stanley Cups. I stand bowl than probably looks at differently. Then maybe they do Edmonton where they've changed coach. They've changed managers. You know, there's gonna be a different plant in their down the road. So if they have anything that makes sense for them to move. Maybe it makes sense to get it to you know, to to plan for the future. You know? I just think each is different. But you know, and also depends on what you have within your roster that is value someone else. What can you get in return? And I think that's that's the thing. I wouldn't. Giving you know I've said this before I wouldn't be giving away guys. Just because well, you know, we they're going to be they're not our plans for the future and want to get something for them. And you gotta get something about you. Whether that's a second third round kick or or player or prospect. I mean to give somebody value and you're in the playoff race, or at least has some value to you for seventh round pick or something doesn't make much to be. So I think each situation is different. And I think these managers paying really close attention to these standings now with the next two or three weeks, and you know, we'll see maybe they'll it'll loosen up a little bit. But I get the sense. It's not going to be really, you're right. I mean, the blues were great example because doggone talked about wanting to shake things up maybe trading of its core players all their hot..

"If I'm go interview somebody I'd never I I didn't put on skates until a few years ago. I would watch the game. I know that Marty McSorley in that stick bend all that stuff. But I just didn't know the rules. If I'm gonna go interview somebody better know what I'm talking about. Overwhelm. Okay. Go. And I interview a first ever professional interview Rick Nash who was a rookie for the Columbus. Blue jackets at the time. And they bring them out to me in. I know that my hand was shaking, and and the nicest people in the world absolute day have always been hockey players. Why I love them. But it's like every single one of them is nicer than the Knicks. Absolutely true. That this. There's humility I think some of it comes from you know, most of them being from Canada. And that's just kind of you know, you put the team before yourself, and it's so refreshing. I mean, you're not gonna see egos. You're not gonna see people go crazy and ruin a locker room. It just doesn't happen. You've covered mentioned the sixteen Olympics. Pretty sure every single Stanley Cup in the last twenty thirty year, most of them. All right. How you play the game with you. 'cause I know Wimbledon once French Open. No, okay. So we've done okay. World thor's. Yes. Ninety ninety one ninety two and two thousand two Super Bowl few. Yes. Okay. What haven't you done? Jopin listening angel. I've covered the US open. Yeah. No, I've been I've been to the NBA finals as well. When the the years when remember when the Lakers used to get to the fingle. A lot of followers. Did some stuff off of those games? So that was cool. So yeah, I mean, I've been lucky I've been to a lot of these a lot of major events and the rose bowls and things like that. So it's it's pretty cool your career how to tell ten year old to Leanne Elliot in Brooklyn. Hey, this what you're going to do with your life. Would you believe it never would end up year? Never know that that that just never crossed my mind to California was too too far away. I never never envisioned that happening. We're going to get you to the French Open. All right, early leave late theme of the podcast. Okay. Do you? And I we're going to France. I'm there. The Leanne Elliot your social media is. Helene not Helen. Hellene not Helen call you. Helen. Right. A lot of people. Do I'm gonna call you hall.

"So even even Rangers like they got some decent talent upfront, they'll they'll be all right. All right. Next up the Columbus, blue jackets. All right. So for the additions and subtractions we'll start first with the subtractions some of the names Matt Calvert in col- Jack Johnson in Thomas Vanik. And then some of the names they added are Riley Nash in Anthony. Do Claire who wants us one, I, I'll jump in man. This is this is big for Columbus. They got to huge pending u. f. as in surrogate, but Brodsky and Tammy Pinera and who doesn't seem like he wants to sign a long term extension. So you know if this team's faltering, you know, come the deadline, you gotta wonder if they're going to try to dump them to get something from them. But I mean, there are playoff-caliber team. I think the bigger issue though is broth ski, man. He's in the last year before four year. What are your four year? Almost thirty million dollars deal, but it's been a roller coaster. Mandy won the Vezina in seventeen. He said, twelve shutouts in his last two seasons, but he's been a disaster in the playoffs. The last two years combined three and eight. With an eight, nine to save percentage aja around three and a half. I mean, if you are GM, do you wanna make a move like Bob Ross gift he became available? I don't know, man, I, I, I think this team, everything hinges on him in the regular season like and then the playoffs come in and he any fold. So I don't know, man, it's a big question Mark for me. Boys. This might be a crazy thought, but considering he's up for contract, would you if you're Columbus, would you consider making a move where you you deal, but Brodsky and get back price where obviously, Montreal, you'd think that they'd be willing to unload that salary if there was a decent enough offer because this is a team or they're just kind of like throughout the lineup, there kind of everyone chips in it. If they get the job done there, solid all four lines like they, they got a solid four lines here is that crazy talk. He, why would they trade prices? Somebody like not sign. I don't know. I feel like they'd want somebody younger. I f may not. I'm not a, let's put it this way. You're you're. They don't have a number one. If they lose Broschi you can't just go get number ones. I would say the easiest number one to go get in the league based on his longevity, his contract and how much it's worth. That's probably the one number one you could get and if you're going to have to pay, but broths you that I mean is he has he had any health issues in the past? Yeah, he has actually, I mean, but he's also thirty th this team. It's really hard team to to look at because they're kind of in that boat that they're good. I think they're gonna make the playoffs upfront. They're awesome. The back end, Seth Jones, dude, he's going to win a north where rents sick, but don't you sense kind of a little bit of the wild in terms of they're not gonna, win the Cup. It's it's funny to think of them. I mean, they're not going to beat Pittsburgh, Washington. It's just they're a good team. They are what they are, the compete. But in the end, I don't see them ever winning the east with their their prime example of the like the team that could where they'll like battle their way to the finals..

"And one in his last twenty one starts before tonight so you know you kind of wonder even though he didn't have playoff experience the fact that he's going into the series a little bit sharper than bass leschi was made in the last couple of weeks but you said so far really turned it on offense and that's gonna be there they can they can put up goals in bunches and i don't think new jersey has much offense a town outside of nico he share that number one draft pick and taylor hall so they keep up this becomes the tracking every night did get a goal tonight but not enough is jersey falls five two at tampa meanwhile the other team that battled with tampa in eastern conference nip and tuck pretty much down the stretch boston's bruins they were at home against toronto a good game early for the maple leafs one one after one hyman getting their only goal the equalizer but all boston after that two goes in the second two more in the third they went at five to one push the total of six but a very physical team of big team and cam gore he's a realist he's a big time toronto maple leaves family he said you know boston just too big to physical probably gonna wear down toronto and they did that tonight yeah you know and it seems being a physical series the whole deal you can be physical body around that you have to keep your composure not do anything stupid unfortunately toronto failed to do that keep their composure nazem kadri with a really dirty hit on tommy wingels he got a five minute major and a game misconduct he might be missing game to possibly game three with that that really dirty hit you know it's interesting that seems to be kind of the looming trend now we saw withdrew down he's gonna miss game tomorrow night we also josh anderson the columbus blue jackets five minutes and a game misconduct for a questionable boarding call so you know i it's unfortunate for the know playing physical but also having possibly disrupt their team and and losing gash for games so now let's go back to the big story here in las vegas and of course you know throughout the.
