"Hey, good after Welcome back final stretch, But you saved the best for last doughnut. Really? It's just something different. This was always the one of the week segment. It is a splendid wine, of course, available Jacob Liquor Exchange before we talk about the wine, Let me tell you another wine thing that's happening. You know, I took a break from the virtual tastings on Facebook live. Which would normally be at 6 p.m. this evening, But no because I'm just wrapped up two in the Wichita state wine appreciation classes, which you're going lovely, even though we had to cancel last Monday. But they're coming back November 7th That's a week from today. God, I can't believe we're already going to be the end of the first week in November. I chose someone's yesterday. I'll put him on my website. If not tomorrow. First thing Monday morning. November 7th and the show next week. Is all about merlot because it is national Merlot Day. And you may know that Excuse me, Marlowe. Ah, when it first came out as a a single varietal here in our country. It was in my early days of working and Eva's wine and spirits and it was going to be the new it great, but it was kind of for a while, and then it kind of settled down and the quality went up. And then that stupid movie sideways came out now the movie was good, but the stupid comments about merlot were stupid. Dumb, redundant. He's stupid. Stupidest. I'll get it. But things have changed in a great way. There's not as much Marlowe planet is or was in the heyday and the merlot that's left is high quality. So I I've got to get out from the wine Institute whose or merlot expert she's going to be on the show next week, and then that night 6 p.m. next Saturday on Facebook Live. And by the way, all this information will be a good life guy dot com. I chose for ones and you could have any of these and I'll recommend some substitution ZZZZ well, in case you can't find it, But all these have great distribution and are available nationally. I did something that some people would go What I put Barron Germaine environ White merlot. OK, you've had Weitz and you've probably had other pink ones made from other big red grapes. This white merlot has some sweetness for sure, but it's so versatile and with spicy food and things like that, that will be fun. And then the three big, bold red merlots. 2017 Columbia Winery, not Columbia Crest. Ah Columbia Winery, literally one of the first and most influential wineries in all of Washington state. They're Columbia Valley Merlot is splendid 2017 Markham from Napa. Another great producer, and then 2018 Duckhorn decoy from Sanoma. Tamarack Cellars Firehouse Red 2017
"Stave from cheap wine, fighter dot. com. With another wind today. We've just put on the cheap wine finder dot com website. We have eleven, years reviews all basically affordable lives and this one is a red blend from. Columbia Valley. From tamarack cellars, they're they're basically a Bow Take style, single vineyard kind of. Kind of winery but this is their firehouse red blend. It's twenty seventeen. and. It's got to be collected group of grapes. There's a whole bunch. There's Grenache. Merlot and Soviet, Blonde Gannett remember all of them. There's others two percent of this whom wide was coon winder send your basic for though. I think carbonate Ron. There's just a ton of different grapes, percentages and some very. Precise blend which I have like. Some blends you know there, you can't tell one grape, the other you just tastes good but you don't really. Case, individual grapes this when you, I think you Kinda I. I quite honestly don't know taste like. A blending grape from the Rhone Valley. have before, but in a blend, so I couldn't tell you and there's all these different flavors coming in through there like each one even though there's two percent of this three percent of that in the main grape has thirty, three percent and twenty, seven percent. There is no, you know this isn't like seventy percent one in a bunch of other this is really a blend. And it's their individual flavors and there's You. Know there's some of this and there's some of that I'm gonNA take a SIP. And it's. Really a good taste. There's a lot of flavor going on. And it's not just a simple wine. It is Kinda smooth on the palate with their art art things and there are challenging flavors but mostly, it's really good tasting. Because there's sours they're spicy and. There's rounded fruit. This is a really good bland I. Mean I think it's about fifteen bucks I think I've found it on sale around fifteen. And It's very precise I mean you don't add two percent of this rape and two percent of that grape unless you really really wanted in there I asked. Winemaker one time while they put one percent. Everything you add changes something you know they put it in there because they want it and there. And the OAK program the used A. Forty Percent New Oak sixty percent second and third Phil. Mostly French and American with some hung Gary O'Connor. Burian and French are pretty much the same species Americans. Different each give off different flavors. In. Every time you use Vero, the barreled gives off a little less oak. So it's forty percent new oak, which you get the full flavor, and then you get a little bit less and they do that to get the wine because this is basically a drink wine you take it home Newton, drink it. You can put it away for five or six years if you have the means to do that, but you don't have to do that. And they get the flavor exactly right where they wanted to be when it's ready to be released, which is two thousand, seventeen model. So that's what that is. This is a very good. What's at? Tamarack cellars by our house. Red Blend. It kinda sounds rustic and a little bit is a has a little rough edges has some smoothest to it it's kind. Yeah. The the name actually tells you what's going on here and I like my red blends a little bit rustic. You know I liked I liked some some little rough edges to go with. The. Ripe Fruit and I got this year I'm kind of happy with US wine I'm it tastes good. It's such a strange. Now it's a strange for such diverse. the array of. That doesn't taste like your difficult red wine not. In this day and age red wine blends are really pretty good spells you affordable ones but this has a different taste to it. That's well-made. said it's got good acidity Tanzer sweep. Particular sip because it's good. Tim Rex sellers firehouse red blend twenty, seventeen, probably twenty, seven, twenty sixteen is good to. Really good red blend Fifteen bucks taste it it actually. Tastes more expensive fifteen dollar wines expect to be really good in this one. This one of someone told you. It was thirty bucks you go. Okay. You believe it. So. There you go. That's me. I just found a good read blend doesn't mean let's dot super expensive taste.

"Savvy on blocked twenty eight thirteen. It's from. Chateau St Michelle one their line of Wine successor mostly from the Force Haven Bills Avian and Some from the Yakima Valley Av. Wasn't all that long ago? That Washington state lines would have said Columbia Valley on the label, but they seem to be getting away from that. And pushing Washington state's rather than Columbia Valley and the Individual Av. Inside the Columbia Valley I don't know if people thought the Columbia. Valley was in California up. But. I think it's a good thing. Letting people know what what is good. And I don't really have a whole lot of experience with Washington State's Satyam, block. So it's GonNa, happen to drink this one, and it's not the same old same poll. I'm a notice got that Grassy Aroma. You get New Zealand, but not much else in New Zealand. And this. Liquid life has great acidity. It's. I like a white line where you. are reaching for another, SIP. Before you even think about Richard Precipitous this one does that. That's named after the fifth. Form of matter. What's the other four? Solid liquid gas and plasma. And what the fifth one is I don't know. I. Guess It's Liquid Light. and. It's going to attend. Branca's not the same old same old, but it tastes really I'm. kind of like taking a break from Saab on black, still drinking savvy beyond blunt. It's got a little bit of a husker mouth. Feel to it little bit more rounded with tarp waiver. You have tons of flavor tastes good. And I like it. It's one of those wines that you I tasted you. Know and then after a while ago. Yeah I. Do know it's pretty good. And it's named after some scientific thing that I don't understand so. It makes me feel dumb. I'll feel smarter after I drink. took another SIP. Because of the city does do that, too. So there you go, I don't have to say about this one. It's beyond blankets for summertime, if tastes great. chateau same Michelle knows how to make good value priced wines. They also make ion wines to. They have they have. The value winds down pretty good. It's named after science. Label expect wine tastes great. Go?

"Specific vineyard sites were researched implanted nineteen seventy four the groundbreaking it's had the same Michelle on Woodville and wooden veil is north let's just say if north if you have little little bit east of Seattle but north of Seattle and a lot of people thought that that would be a great place to grow grapes and there's some grapes planted there but the reality of it is the Columbia valley on the east side of the cascade mountains is it along the Columbia River is not only the rocky well drained soil but the access to water that makes a great Washington state ones really magnificent stuff and there were so many people involved in the beginning Allen Shoupe literally turned chateau St Michelle into a big conglomerate with the advent of Stimson lane what was Stimson lane Stimpson the dude was I can't remember really was in colder weather I don't know what anyway he was a big name did and the property where they built the winery and founded the car and and made the company headquarters is at north in Woodville from Seattle and they had to drive grapes they made that big production facility and still is and they still draw truck grades up their temperature controlled the shipping vehicles but if things go back in the end they were one of the first ones to have an unstaffed Shep and fact he was on my show John Farage years ago and had that case had a couple cookbooks and things just happened we're relatively fast although if you didn't pay attention you missed it but the other people the bobber tow the one of the great wine makers it has made such an impact and David Rosenthal Brian McKay Mackey and these people so many of them are one one girl got a minute messes name up one one yes okay was is the head of everything right now but he was Columbia crested and made grand estates famous and so many different chunks of the land and labels that were either created or acquired by say Michelle wine estates made this company is so magnificent and I I really if you there's two things you need to know yes you need to go to Saint Michelle dot com and they they abbreviated S. T. E. dash Machel like a girl's name am I C. H. E. L. L. E. dot com a wealth of information but if you really want to get information about all the labels that they have all the lines.

"That were doing. It's the middle of December. Remember two thousand nineteen and what we have is a Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington state. That I pick for several reasons because mainly because the hype it was getting it is the substance Sara S.. Cabernet Sauvignon twenty seventeen in the In the table of wine elements C. S.. Cabernet Sauvignon docile. Sel Charles. Smith is the Charles Smith wine. He's the man behind boom-boom Sera and Velvet Devil Merlot and Kung Fu girl was that Riesling. And he also does some really high end wines hundred points and cabs and he does the gamut gamut getting wines. That are getting one hundred point center selling four hundred fifty bucks a bottle and he's kind of Oslo pretty reliable producer of inexpensive wines. And this is a Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington state. It's it's a blend of different As of vineyards from different Ab as in the Columbia Valley Washington state four main vineyards and then six others that had like three percent six percent of this. I was wondering as to winemaker. Why'd you put two percent of something end? It like why bother you know. Seems like a lot of work and everything changes the flavor. Everything you do to it changes something so when you see all these little bits and pieces. Somebody's meticulously crafting. The wine and this this is a wine Twenty seventeen that wine spectator Gave it number forty nine in their list of top up winds for his last year at this point there the the year the tweet nineteen list. I don't think has come out. Hit or just it is coming out and this got a number forty nine this. It doesn't number forty nine on the valueless. This is all the wines they reviewed this is in the top fifty. And it's Casco Sony for twelve thirteen bucks. I I think it lists for seventeen and everybody else has a somewhere in between usually around fifteen dollars and this is the base. Wine of the substance Brands this the other wines are single. Vineyard wines that sell for Maybe three to four times as much money so this is the base line. But it's the wind. They've got all the press A wine that drinks like it should be a fifty dollar wine Hawaiian. That's number forty nine wine in the the world and let me take a SIP because making it sound so good i WanNa drink saw and does a stand up to the high. I think it does It a lot of inexpensive wines kind kind of The kind of get you with bombast within your face flavors with You know they they taste great but they kind of like you know boom here. I am and this one's got the elegance and restraint. It's Kinda sleek. It's it's not having to go boom and you're you know it's it's it's one of the takes its time and does what it's supposed to do and it tastes pretty good. It's got really extracted blackberry flavors and maybe some molasses and licorice and There's herbs and there's some maybe some cranberry todd cranberry cranberry and maybe Black Cherry and little smokey thing going on. It's a really delicious wine but it doesn't. That's not in your face big bold there's a sleekness to it. There's the in control I mean it's maybe that maybe that's what are they talking about when it would be a more expensive wine Actually what I what I kind of want to say about the Senate Ahead Napa Valley on the label it would. It would cost three or four times more money because more or less saying that people will pay more for Napa Valley. Even if it's is not that much better in the eighteen dollar seventeen dollar Columbia valley wine to meaning that gut cuts both ways so you can take that what it is but this is a very nice wine nice. took a second sip within like a minute. So there you go If you're going to drink it make sure you open it up. This is not one of those winds pop the top and poor. You're not going to get the full effect. It's not always easy to get the wind. Open up specially red wines. But once you do. You're going to get this rounded goodness to the flavors it's rich in its sleek in its long. It's got great a city eighty these lately lest up city. Let's the flavors on full but a dozen get in the way of the finishes pretty much this full as the body of the wine nine at a just hold on for a long time. It's a really nice wine and ninety three point nine one points you know. Yeah I can see why right because of the balance and the restraint. That's not something you always see with. Value Priced wines. Said they a lot of times if it's inexpensive. They're going to. I'M GONNA jump up at you. They're going to do things to catch your attention. And that's not a bad thing when they do it right which they do it right right more often than not nowadays they kind of getting good at making wines inexpensively and making them funded drink? But then this one isn't just a simply refunded drink boy. Wasn't that flavorful wine. This has got some elegance to and that's a good thing I I mean I don't have that much to say about it. It's just a good wine. It tastes great. It's probably is my favorite. Cabernet Sauvignon right now. I'm the I'm trying to think of another one. I like better. The TANNIN's are smooth. said he's great. The flavors are sleek the flavors. Go on and on. They have a little bit of depth to it a little bit of complexity to it. Yeah I mean it's just a good wine so there I mean I I guess when they're not so good I could talk about him for a while or I can go off on Tangents which I do but this time I just have good wine glass? That tastes is great. But what the winemaker out do they did If you don't remember the name of it was it's the subsea. S Cabernet Sauvignon twenty. Seventeen from child Smith and it's a good wine man. It's a bang for the buck wine. If you like your cabinet savvy to kind of kind of be elegant. Canopy refined kind of be full of flavor but balanced. This is one for you And it's doesn't cost a lot of money You know if you WANNA. I don't know if you WANNA fight Costco Right now to save a couple of bucks but I would. It's good enough. Yeah I would pay you know if you can get in it for a couple of bucks more and pick it up. I would do that rather than fight the crowds at Costco. But if you can get it for twelve thirteen bucks. This is a out Out Steele let's it for me It's a good one. I don't want to say too much more about it because I like it and I'm GonNa turn this often drink the rest of it so Party on I got. We'll have some bubbles coming up and some Christmas things in a few more we. We got this party time to help you out with We got to help you. Get Your groove on and your party on your drink on. "And you're thinking, I really would like to get them some help. This place is the least expensive and the most competent with the the deepest investment in really good biological medicine that I found worldwide, but if you are sending a sick person there, they should not come on a liver detox retreats, if they have LS or Parkinson's are MS, and they're going to need a longer stay. They should go there soon, and they should go there for three weeks and on this page. That's about the retreats. There is a section of that page that lets you apply to go there for three weeks day, and it gives you I'm really proud of this because there's not a lot of clinics that will give you this. But it gives you a Skype call with one of the metaphors putting is one of the medical doctor another hired one who works there. And also, Dr Petra daughter Federica is a medical doctor. She's a doctor of internal medicine and has trained for years under her mother in. Biological medicine. So just a quick little note about this amazing building. What happened is many many years ago in the eighties one of Switzerland's wealthiest women became very ill. Choose choose fairly old juice seventies eighties. And she. She got very sick. And she she hired a holistic doctor to take very good care of her. And the guy turned her health issue around and she got well again, and she was so grateful and she said to him. What can I do for? You sounds like a fairytale doesn't it? What can I do for you? And he said build me a clinic. And so she gave him what? In the nineteen eighties was twenty three million dollars. This facility was built and all the rooms are on site. There is this gorgeous lunchroom that we take all three of our meals in or you can go have a Chica Fe, which is a chicory coffee, and they'll steam sheep's milk in it for you the food. They eat in Europe is surprisingly different. If you haven't been there. It's there surprisingly number of food items that you're like gosh, I've never seen this before. Like chestnuts chestnuts are everywhere outside, but they're also on the lunch buffet so this facilities Bill. Twenty three million dollars, and it has changed hands multiple times because that's a lot of money and nobody could afford to buy it for twenty three million dollars. And his oh if you went to build a facility like this. Let's say North America, you be under so much bondage of debt that you would have to charge a fortune and only the very wealthy would be able to go there. But what's crazy is? I don't know what a twenty three million dollar building in the nineteen eighties would be when it's been appreciating for whatever that is thirty forty years. It's been appreciate it's gotta be worth fifty million dollars by now it was sold to Dr Petra and her husband who's the NBA business brains behind it. It was sold to them for three million dollars. And half of that money was gifted to them. So they acquired this world class with silly. That would would just bury most doctors financially to even own the spectacular building. Overlooking the Columbia valley in the southern Swiss Alps, they acquired it for only one point five million dollars in debt that is pennies on the dollar what it would cost to build it. So even know Switzerland is the most expensive country in the entire world..

"In cybersecurity is something that we still grapple with on a daily basis. But I didn't know that it had as such an effect on the beer wine and spirits industry as well. Justin, you take us through this a little bit. Yeah. So number articles that come out recently about cybersecurity. And you see it every day. Most recently Facebook was hacked, and it was had an impact on fourteen million users who are Facebook users. Were they hacked? Yeah. They've dealt with that in the past over a huge security breaches. But yeah, most people can relate to this to this. Yeah. So if we think about it winery distillery, many of us have been to a winery distillery, and you think about all aspects of that business. So you walk in the front door as a customer you sample. Let me get a flight of wine. You say I want to sign up for your wine club. So you get your credit card. And they entered their computer and every quarter you're going to get a shipment of wine. Well, Packers go in and and all of these credit card transaction type of services, so you see that at the business level, and that's no different than if target gets hacked or someone steals your credit card. So that's a typical thing that every business is going to run into now. Let's assume you go on the tour of the winery or the distillery we talk last week about the. The explosion in Italy. Lost thousands of liters of. That wasn't the result of a cyber attack. It was instrument failure inside the building and yeast being pitched too much and pumps to active. That's a cost that overflow. But now imagine you're on a big production facility cores in Colorado or. Zhigo's scotch makers overseas, a big one or massive vodka story. All of the distilleries are making high flame explosive hazardous material. Anything coming off the stills gonna be forty fifty sixty proof coming off the still at one hundred ninety proof accessories fire. Dan that sits in big tanks, and it running through all these processes many big operators that you can envision have automated flow controls an automated process controls. So every valve is controlled by. A signal that will open close the valve remotely just hit a button on the computer screen pumps the pumps on and off with the press the button from a computer screen back in the control room. So imagine you've got these huge plants will lots of liquid flowing through. And you're a hacker, and you can tap in to the plant's main process control, and you can begin to open valves, you can begin to turn on pumps turn off pumps. You can begin to wreak havoc on the internal controls with liquid. That is flammable or explosive and Jim beam. Specifically it said one of the recent cyber attack seminars where they have these facilities. They have class one and division two explosive environments and somebody hack into the machine to cause significant damage. Imagine a hose is not hooked up to evolve and somebody hacks in and opens up valve, you could have thousands of gallons of whiskey for all the floor because there's nothing to stop that. The valve is opened remotely. This is a real significant problem and the stories like us for small compared to these big guys. We don't have his process controls. This this type of cyber attack is not gonna hurt us, but it is gonna impact facilities big employers, especially when you've got centralized control that is looking at multiple locations, multiple buildings across the campus or across town or across states. This is a real issue real issue. And it's something that more and more companies are happens to get expertise in house full-time to protect the investment anytime at new technology is developed that's usually where one of my thought processes goes. Because on the one hand, you're streamlining, and you're making this process so much easier in a sense. But you also there needs to be sort of a response on on that side of things where you have to either hire extra people or take extra measures. So that these things aren't hacked or taken advantage. I'm so it's fascinating. That we've come to this point in our society, where you wouldn't think as a distillery that you're having to employ boy all of this type of security, but you mentioned that you guys aren't affected by by it in these automated controls type away, but we read one article that talks about a brewery that was victim of a cyber attack. Cyber ransom ransomware is I was a term that I was not familiar with. But this is one where people who just have a their sales information. They can have that stolen which was concerning to me. So this is Aaron brewing figure talking about there in Scotland, and it's pretty small ransom amounts of these folks are asking for it was less than ten thousand pounds or probably about thirteen hundred thirty thousand dollars in bitcoin though, which can in a small amounts. So, you know, if you go an attack a company like Microsoft, and you ask for I want to have billion dollars. They're not going to do that. And they're gonna get the FBI on you. So these hackers say, well, look, if we go after fifty small companies, so we ask for ten thousand dollars, and we walk up their stuff. They're more likely to fork over the ten grand because it's cheaper than the alternative. What is the alternative for them? And then you ask for it and bitcoin, and it's not traceable because bitcoin is not traceable. So. And in this, particular example, right? They used the company's own job posting against them. Basically. Hackers took the job posting posted at two international sites. So that plenty of people were sending in emails, then they put their cyber there. Malware into one of those E mail attachments, got them to download it it stole the information from their system, and then they are using it to sort of extort money from them, which is. That's crazy. In that case, they lost three months of sales data imagine if you lost three months of production, data when you're very or winery distillery. Yeah. Records you say this bourbon you got to demonstrate that it was majority corn that went into that. Otherwise, you can't label it as bourbon if you wanna call your wine, the Columbia valley cabernet you've got to demonstrate that you use those scrapes from that region demonstrate. Table wine, and it's worth about ten percents of the value of the market. So losing the records is significant access to your HR department. Then all the personnel files where he may have. A lot of proprietary information personal information. That's shouldn't be sure to the public about your employees goes on and on. And on is certainly not something I would have ever thought about how do we not have cast club radio? And we get to talk about these topics that we'll be keeping an eye on that since of course, it does sort of affect us as both consumers, and you sir as a as an owner of a distillery as well. So we'll keep following along with that. And hopefully opens people is about more and more that we have to do is business owners and operators. They're sitting back enjoying the favorite adult beverage. It's one more thing they can offer up a little bit of appreciation. Absolutely. Well, unfortunately, cyberattacks that can be scary. But if you enjoy being scared on a smaller more fun scales scale that allows you to also have great wine,.
