CNN Suspends Chris Cuomo Indefinitely

"CNN had suspended Chris Cuomo indefinitely. I like Chris. He has done a very bad thing in the world of news. Using his position in the news to advance and protect his brother. He's been suspended indefinitely. You can't do that. He can't protect your Friends by manipulating the news. Not even if it's your brother. And I hope it works out. I hope they figure it out. Jeff Zucker is a fair guy. They will consider the details. They will look at past presidents like the NBA suspending somebody. It's internal to CNN. It's actually not a matter of why I did nothing illegal. It's just what do you do in the news business? You can't self deal. If I made that in the radio world, there's something called Paola. It's dead now. Hopefully it's dad. You know, I look at Gallagher's palaces and I say, ah nah, Gallagher would never do that. I know Mikey, he's the most honest guy in the world, even if he is playing daddy works right now. If someone were to give me money and say, here's a hundred bucks, 500 bucks, a thousand bucks. Please plug my restaurant. Wonderful restaurant in the ditch of Columba. That's Paola. I'd go to jail.

Is Europe copying Victoria's lockdown strategy?

"Say Norman. Let's talk about a place, which is now imposing a five Columba travel limit You can't go to the body shop anymore he conquered the beauty salons jeans I'm not talking about Victoria I'm talking about I land and it looks like pices in Europe adopting some USTRALIAN stall approaches to curbing coronavirus. Yes. Because despite all the complaints about lockdown in Victorian has unnecessary M- should. Just. Let it go climbing from some sources and how in complaining not letting up quickly enough lockdown is actually all you can do when it's getting out of control I mean as a Stralia being used as an example to the world or is this just best practice? No matter where you are let's talk about Ireland for a moment, which is a country that's got a smaller population than Victoria bending how you define. It is right about five million people in the past month if at seventeen thousand cases past week seven, thousand by yesterday twelve, hundred cases in a single day. So. That's getting pretty worrying from them and they they're locked on looks remarkably similar to victorious yet they're going into heights lockdown of his six weeks well, in Victoria. That wasn't long enough. Do you think they might extend it? Well, it's hard to say and it goes on modelling the Senate got more cases and more virus circulating and as we've said. Before on Corona, Cast University of Sydney modeling showed that for every day you delay lock tone when you're out of control, it's a week at the other end, which is one reason why Victoria has gone on a bit longer they try to ring-fence thirty six suburbs. It didn't work and that delayed things by a couple of weeks and we've probably shortened it by lot. At, the end effect on that but that's engine. Now the sorted out and the hopefully, we'll get done very levels, but it depends on how much virus there is around week or so ago a senior person at the W. H. O., the World Health Organization was saying lockdowns shouldn't be the primary way that countries control Khurana, virus, and that sort of headline went out. And I think a of the new Scott got in it because we are seeing countries using lockdown and it can be effective. So where's the? Where's the nuance here? So that's certainly not what was being said last week courting the World Health, organization and we for Monday's synthetically report I interviewed Dr Dave Navarro. Who's in fact, the same health official he's professor of public. Health. Imperial College London and his Special Envoy to World Health Organization on Covid Nineteen, and he feels that he's been misrepresented his view is that sure down is not the first thing that you do. It's not your primary means of control. Your primary means of control has to be testing and contact tracing and quarantine in isolation of the people you find in that process. However he does say that you can get to a point where locked is the only thing that you can do and you should use that lockdown to improve your contact and testing regime. And in fact, if you look at Victoria, that's really although in the first wave, that's what we did as a nation back in March we got our act together in terms of contact tracing. There are still deficiencies in Victoria and they have used the last few weeks to get much better and so the contact tracing regime now in Victoria is fantastic there. quickly, the locking off mystery cases in super-quick time, and that's what you've gotta get. So then fighting the of used that time well. It's not that they're against lockdown. It's just that it has its place. and. When you when it's out of control, the way it is in Europe you've actually got to be able to do that another problem. And, I don't know what they've done in Ireland here. But the problem is the borders and it was a really interesting study the other day looking counties in the United. States and showing that cross-border flow was a very important factor in both the sustenance and the growth of SARS COV to infections. and. If you don't control your borders and you still got people coming in from outside, it's very hard to get this done and on control it. So so really European. Countries are trying to do this with one hand tied behind their bank. Britain and Ireland could control their borders because they're islands but it's harder for other nations exactly and can we just come back to smoking before about Australia and we are doing the numbers that are coming out now looking really really promising do how close are we to having zero spread here in Australia, we're almost there new south. Wales still has cases popping up Victoria might get there before New South Wales because they're still in lockdown and those extra few days of Lockton make make all the difference I think New South Wales it's going to be really hard but they're. You know they're getting on top of it too. I think we're going to be very, very tiny sprayed, and maybe in Victoria, they'll get done to zero spread. And that will make it much easier to open things

Jupiter's Mysterious Great Red Spot

"Jupiter's great red spot is a storm that's larger than our earth larger than our home. Planet. It's raging through the atmosphere of this gas giant planetary scientists think that it's been going on since the mid sixteen hundreds. But there's a current version that people have been investigating since about eighteen thirty the was telescopes and space crafts, the c- close up Juno, which is one of NASA spacecraft have gotten very close to the spot orbiting Jupiter in its return some of the highest resolution images of the planet and the great red spot. And it's given scientists a new look on what of the oldest known storms in our solar system. This storm is an anti cyclonic storm in a high pressure zone in Jupiter's clouds in doesn't rotate clockwise, it rotates, the other way counterclockwise. It takes about. Six of our own earth days to make a trip around Jupiter. And this storm has clouds in it. They may be many Columba's above the other cloud decks on the surface, but just streams to its north and south keep the spot at the same latitude as it goes around the planet in the great red spot is actually read, but it's not always read the chemistry of the clouds and atmosphere cause it to vary, and it could be pinkish orange could be darker red and Jupiter's atmosphere is mainly molecular hydrogen and helium, but this other stuff in there to water hydrogen sulfide ammonia and methane as well. So those are also in the great red spot, and we don't really know why the colors of the spot change over time. And they suspect that the solar radiation causes the chemicals in the spot to dark in our lighten in Beth depends on the solar wind in though, we've been looking at this spot for a very very long time. It wasn't until nineteen seventy nine that the Voyager one spacecraft sent back close up images of the great red spot, and there's other speech crafts for you to get a lay. Oh juno. Have also visited and observe this great red spot. Now. I'll be right back after this break. Hi, everyone. I would've let you know about inker dot FM. It's where I host podcast, and I find that. But it is getting more circular for the longest time. The thought that the spot was only going to be to earth's wide. But over time it shrank and about this time. Right now, it's about one point three times as big as the earth, and it's shrinking it's getting smaller. But no one's quite sure. What's happening? Could it be that the storm is just dissipating it's losing momentum? And everything in the storm, maybe going out into the atmosphere of Jupiter and the molecules and the things in the clouds are just gonna going every place else on the planet. "Or through those two socials, Facebook and Twitter. And that's what we offer a foreign view of American. So let's get started. There has been an Easter massacre in stronger. Spectacularly coordinated terror suicide event by all estimations. The last count is two hundred seven people dead many many hundred people injured and so the status of them remains fluid. There were at last count eight attacks mostly in Colombo, the major city in Sri Lanka, but also one apparently outside of us relaunch are outside of Columba Colombo on the eastern edge of that country. We are going to talk to a Sri Lankan journalist now. I chatted with him right for the program. He asked that we don't use his name. So he joins us from Colombo from his office there, and I chatted with him right for the program. And I asked him how many attacks officially occurred in the city or around the city where where he was talking to us from Halen explosions it on on bull Nido to Colombo. Okay. So how far was the one outside of Columba was a long ways away. That could have on the Bengals Colombo eating within course into eastern and our numbers here. Mostly from western media are that there are about two hundred seven people that have been confirmed dead. Does that sound correct? If confirmed two hundred hundred and seven people that were the attacks on churches and hotels here because he hoped to and. The three two. And the at the to play this one it was confirmed when believe in to investigating monthly. The explosion took place. How did these explosions occur were they were they were they brought in by humans where they planted there were they vehicles. How? Most of them met being suicide suicide that day. So a person with the bomb on their body and all active had anything about the active and did they all happen at the same time own defame thing on because on on the between eight ten eight eight and nine in the morning and today did the police or anybody today. Do they identify is? Is there a group behind this? Exactly team. They are not exactly saying, and nobody paying who is not not they'll be giving the name self blew a. I mean there had been shaven people at that. So far in Phoenix knitted, but a lot they have. No, he learned what the film has got the the the all mostly who listed, and they connected to some some because group would it be a domestic group or would it be a group like ISIS, or Al Qaeda those? I mean, at least all Noah need, dating executive. They had any any foreign links. So they will play on their own. Did they had these? But but I mean to it. Gordon, it good big tech Inteva basis. I e I mean, we had we had lawyers in Lanka the DA. And indeed is one of the biggest I mean, they they used Takeo. Davies, but they never had the start of coordinated that you could go same. Is there a chance that any of this is related to the civil war that ended about ten years ago? Or is this does this look like something completely different? It looks annoyed..

And I am hoping to finish up a little bit on these saints and animals, and hopefully leave enough time that we can hear from somebody else for once some exciting stuff just to give a quick recap. I am doing this episode in part because I am reviewing for an upcoming trip to Rome where I do teach world religions to students from this area who go along for some college credit. So it's really exciting and a great way for me to review mice aints. Let me tell you. So last I think we've finished what Saint Roche and the dog and this time we are going to talk about Saint mysterious and the hyena even better. So same serious was born in Egypt and three hundred CE from his youth on they had a very mild conscience. He was very tender hearted. And in fact, there's this great story that says he ate a fig that his friend had stolen, and he mourned the sin for the rest of his days, eating stolen Fiqh Mattis sanctify person, if I've ever heard one so one day when he was an older adult, and he was living in his Monkley cell, and he heard a knock on his door, and he looked out and he discovered hyena who is actually knocking on his door with her head in her mouth. She was clutching a wealth and the Saint which hand and she put the pup into it. And he looked at the pop all Inver, and then he realized that it was blind. So once he understood that it was blind and this poor hyena. This mother was just morning her poor child whose blindness I guess would be lethal he spat into the wealth space making the sign of cross over his is immediately the wealth could see. And he was able to suckle he followed his mother away. The next day the Hannah returned to the cell of Saint mysterious and again tapped his door with her head and this time she was covered with the woolly skin of a freshly killed sheep. The Saint was horrified. And he actually rebuked the hyena for her active violence stretched before the ground in front of him and bending on her pauses, if she was begging him to take it, and he considered the spectacle before him, and he said, well, I told you I would not take that skin. But I will make you a deal. If you promise me that you will never again trouble the poor by stealing their sheep. I accept your gift. And here's what's interesting, Diana. Bob, her head at have in wordless agreement and Saint my serious insisted again that she promised that she would never killed a living lamb, and that she would take her pray only from creatures who had died naturally hyena again nodded at Saint serious eyeing him steadily Saint mysterious agree. Read. And he said, listen, if you have trouble finding dead creatures to eat come to me, and I will share with you mine meal and the hyena again agreed from that day forward, the hyena would occasionally visit Saint mysterious cell when food was scarce, and he was all too happy to share his bread with her. And he for his part such soundly on the sheepskin for the rest of his he looked being ninety and he is commemorated on January nineteenth, then they're Saint Columba, and the horse think Columba is another Irish Saint to his born December seven five twenty one was a Royal line and his life was characterized by missionaries Zeo, and he was a founder of monastic order on the holy island of I ONA in Scotland which remains a popular site even today this band, actually wrote something like three hundred bucks by hand to the books, which he may have transcribe which include the book of d'oro, and they soldier called the cafe are still intact to this day. But you know, he continued to grow weaker to one shared with one of his friends that he was to die on on a particular day, which he called his own south. He was tired from the toll of life in his Lord had invited. Him to be with them and Columbus that he would die around midnight following the footsteps of his father's in the faith and his friend wiped and this poor saints trying to comfort his friend, even though he is the one who is dying the same decided to head back to his monastery one last time, but he was so tired that he had a sit down and rest, and as you sitting beside the road, his white horse ran up to him and leaned his head against a holy man's chest drenching his shirt with his tears which poured into his lap, his friend rose to push horse away from his beloved friend, but Columbus stopped him saying allow this lover of mine to shed tears on my chest for this horse being an animal. The white horse would faithfully served him for so many years in the grieving horse continued on his way and condo return to the monastery. I final vespers later that night when the bell tolled midnight Columba returned to the monastery church, but collapsed before the altar surrendering his soul to God. He died in five ninety seven when he was seventy seven years old, and he is coming married on June nine now, this is pretty famous if you have not heard of Saint Francis. I adore he is the Saint for whom are current pope is named and he would actually go out and preach to the animals. So it's kinda cool one time Saint Francis. Is even tamed a wolf the wolf have been terrorizing. The people of the nearby town, Google, stealing their sheep and even attacking humans. Outstretched palm sealing the agreement with a pledge the wolf then followed Saint Francis back to their Saint Princess explained the townspeople wolves promise to never again steal their Schieffer threaten their safety. But he asked them out of charity if they would feed the wolf and this gets really cold to just like Saint Francis. So tame that the people learn to love and care for him. They kept his belly full and the wolf never again caused any trouble. When the whole finally died of old age the town people's read the loss feeling they had lost some of Saint Francis unique grace, which lingered with them through the presence of the wolf. And immediately the world could see and he was able to suckle he followed his mother away. The next day the Hino returned to the cell of Saint mysterious and again, tack to store with her head and this time she was covered with the woolly skin of a freshly killed sheep. The Saint was horrified. And he actually rebuked the hyena for her act of violence for the Heena stretched before the ground in front of him and bending on her pauses, if she was begging him to take it, and he considered the spectacle before him, and he said, well, I told you I would not take that skin. But I will make you a deal. If you promise me that you will never again trouble the poor by stealing their sheep. I will accept your gift. And here's what's interesting, Diana. Bob, her headed him in wordless agreement and save my serious insisted again that she promised that she would never kill a living lamb, and that she take her pray only from creatures who had died naturally in the hyena again nodded at Saint mysterious eyeing him steadily state mysterious. Agreed. And he said, listen, if you'd have trouble finding dead creatures to eat come to me, and I will share with you mind meal and the hyena again agreed from that day forward the hyena would occasionally visit Saint mysterious is sell when food was. Scarce, and he was all too happy to share his bread with her. And he for his part such soundly on the sheepskin for the rest of his days. He lifted being ninety and he is commemorated on January nineteenth Saint Columba and the horse. Think Columba is another Irish Saint to his born December seven five twenty one years of a Royal line in his life was characterized by missionary zeal, and he was a founder of a monastic order on the holy island of Iona in Scotland which remains a popular site. Even today this ban actually wrote something like three hundred books by hand to the books, which he may have transcribed which include the book of d'oro and a soldier. The Catholic church are still intact to this day. So there's actually relics up there that he wrote the best legends about this. Same involves his horse when he was very old and tired. He was making his last pilgrimages. He was visiting his fellow monks and they were working in a field. And he was so weak that he could not walk. It had to be carried out in a cart. And when his brother monks saw him, he explained that. He has a great longing in his soul to go. And be with Jesus he knew his time was nigh, but he decided to lingered a little longer on this earth as you did not want to grieve his brothers during the Easter season. That's a nice guy. I don't wanna die an upset you and mess up your holiday, right? So the monks were so upset, and they turned east and blessed the island in the islanders who dwelt there. But you know, he continued to grow weaker. So safe was shared with one of his friends that he was to die on on a particular day, which he called his end. Sambath? He was tired from the toll of life in his Lord had invited him to be with him. And Columbus said that he would die around midnight following the footsteps of his father's in the faith, and his friend and this poor saints trying to comfort his even though he is the one who is dying the same decided to head back to his monastery one last time, but he was so tired that he had to sit down and rest and has you sitting beside the road his white horse. Ran up to him and leaned his head against the holy man's chest drenching, his shirt with his tears which poured into his lap, his friend rose to push horse away from his beloved friend. But Columbus talked him saying allow the slipper of mine to shed tears on my chest for this horse being an animal. Understood instinctively that I was going to be with my Lord yet you as a man could not foretell this and to Columba blessed the white horse who had faithfully served. Ten percent. Many years in the grieving horse continued on his way and condo returned to the monastery. I final vespers later that night when the bell told her midnight Columba returned to the monastery church. Which collapsed before the altar surrendering his soul to God. He died in five ninety seven when he was seventy seven years old, and he is commemorated on June nine. Now this scene is pretty famous if you have not heard of Saint Francis. I don't know where you've been but Saint Francis I adore. He's the do that actually has the whole blessing of the animals his feast days tuber fourth, and if you are familiar with blessing of the animals, what surprises me is that in become so popular, and I've mentioned this before. Now, the blessing has jumped from the Catholic church to all sorts of other denominations as I said many years ago. I took my pugs Iliad and odyssey to be blessed. This is what I determined that. They were probably not Christian pugs because within that same year. One park had an IRA picture and the puck had an eight hundred dollar bladder stone that had to be removed. However, they responded very well to Buddhism. So take that as you will. Anyway, Saint Francis. I adore he is the Saint for whom are current pope is named and he would actually go out and preach to the. Animals. So it's kinda cool one time Saint Francis. Even tamed a wolf the wolf who've been terrorizing the people of the nearby town, Google, stealing their sheep and even attacking humans. The people had attempted to hunt wolf and the wolf was too fierce and cunning to be captured towns townspeople became so fearful that they refused to leave the confines of the city walls. When France heard about the wolf he decided to head out to the hills to see if he could forge a compromise between the wolf and the people and the townspeople begged him not to risk his life. But he still insisted on speaking with the wolf, and what was kind of interesting one fryer and some peasants wanted to go with them. And I think only the friar ended up going the peasants kind of lost their nerve. But Saint Francis was not afraid of the wolf the wolf, of course, was a creation of God. And that's one thing that Saint Francis said about nature's at nature's creation of God. And is thereby holy. So in the wolf solid Saint princes at rush towards him Baring its teeth and growling and Francis. Immediately made the sign of the cross over the wolf commanded the wolf to never again harm people the wolf. Immediately dropped to the ground as if an agreement. Saint Francis lifted his hand to the wolf and the wolf practice policy Francis. Outstretched palm sealing the agreement with a pledge the wolf then followed Saint Francis back to Google their Saint Princess explains the townspeople wolves promise to never again steal they're cheaper threaten their safety. But he asked them out of charity if they would feed the wolf, and this gets be really full so just like Saint Francis. Begging monk would do going door to door asking for alms, the wolf go door-to-door asking for food and the town people would actually feed it and over time the wolf became so team that the people learn to love and care for him. They kept his belly full and the wolf never again caused any trouble. When the vote finally died of old age to town people's grieved at the loss feeling is that they had lost some of Saint Francis is unique grace which lingered with them through the presence of the wolf now. It's a nice story. I like that there's an anti werewolf, right? It's a wolf that. Fine. He's and comfort through the same. So we're going to do at this point is we are going to parts we're going to have a few little commercial breaks. And then when we get back, we'll insert a little bit more and had on our alive story that recorded at an event we'll be right back after these messages..

"Make your life easier. But it's quite lonely because you're not going out and about when Charlotte was still sort of primary agent you had to go and was this dog Noces autism didn't feel wire visited did you and her dad have a similar approach to managing Charlotte's behavior. Say those tantrums, I think that was a very tough one. And I think a lot of families would relate to dad needing to be the disciplinarian often on one of the parents being the disciplinarian and one of the parents being the sort of methodical distracter if you like oh quickly. Let's go and do something else. Did he see does it? Behavioral and in a lot of times, and I really take my hat off to parents with children on the spectrum with autism. There's a lot of stigma with the behavior of people with autism that it's fixable. And therefore if they have a problem with century things like taking them to shopping center in the lights that flew lights difficult for them. We need to take from that to that shop lots of times or you need to desensitize them. We need to plan ahead where you need to write out a card system of we'll go here. So as a parent as a huge amount of guilt. The behavior actually your fault. You didn't plan well enough or you took them to the shopping center on a Thursday when it was noisy or so, I think a mom I tended to try and plan voidance strategies. I think her dad tended to say, but this is who she is. And we've gotta live our life. Let's just go and do it anyway. And if her behavior in skyrocketed, as a mom, I would think all Columba's just quickly go was he would say, let's. Let's make sure she doesn't do this behavior. Again. I think it's a really tough area for all. Parents did it lead to conflict between you and your husband in the early days. It probably did. But I also think that then what happens, and perhaps happens to a lot of families is that one of the parents, then decides will the other parent can just do it. Then my way isn't working, and it wasn't none of our as was working to control her behavioral, health communicate. I think one parent then just sort of maybe shrugs that off and says will look you do it then. Because obviously everything I'm doing is a failure. And I'm not saying out make a difference. And I think that's way we probably saw differently. I was still let's fix this. Whereas perhaps he was this Zushi is what about the things with Charlotte's Easter with bay. What things like between them? Yes. So I I've struggled to understand that myself. And I said to Beth to be honest with me, and she's blown. Me away with what she says. I I say to her, you know, would you have liked it? If if Charlotte was normal, and she'd say, Charlotte, Charlotte, mom, she's my sister. And I love her. I think she was embarrassing to have as a system, but never once did say to me, please don't bring her to my school concert. I wouldn't bring her because I know what would happen, but that didn't come from birth ever issue. Probably did more what I did. Which was the avoidance not bringing friends home, perhaps meeting friends at their home. But she loves her sister. And she still loves her very much. She's not a hands on suspicions and come over now and take her out to the movies, but she watches his sister's back, you talked about the cares at the autism association trying to use cards or homo communicate with cards fictive was that for her. It was hopeless. She got so frustrated, and I think what would happen is giving her best intention safe. For example, one of the choices of the card was chocolate and one was water. If she wanted to choose chocolate, she looked at the conference chocolate, and maybe a hand was trying to reach for the card for chocolate and she'd by mistake at the one for water, it was enormously frustrating for her, and I think that it got to the point if you put the cards out, she would just swipe them completely off the table. She wouldn't even look at them. More want to touch them. Did that leave you thinking? Maybe she doesn't wanna communicate. Maybe she's not capable here. Absolutely. Yep. I think so I think that I've injure started making decisions for her..

So then when he says we're going somewhere, we've never been before it Singapore. And then they screamed so loud, you think cope just whipped out his junk and waved it in their face. They're just like freaking out. We're going somewhere. We've never been study hall. Get. It's like you leaving our so packed like interest in our guys were allowed like bandaids and miniskirts. Okay. I think you can handle this k-. I think you can imagine your dress shoes and your flipflops. Yeah. Giving me back then we have. No, they just skip right to Singapore. And we get to Singapore Colin's there. And this is where I was like this guy. There's nothing nothing going on. He's like a Anna Metron. He's like trying to do his camera work like his kind of walk and talk across a bridge in Singapore needs like, we're in Singapore. It feels great Singapore is amazing. It's got the lights buildings people bathrooms. I'm so ready to kick off. This jury in find love this last week in L A was super hard. I hope hyena and Hannah ama- can start getting along. Calls on the wrong people. Yeah. He's like I've just accepted that they're not gonna get along. But you know, what? This place is amazing Mike ho-. My God stop saying Beijing police has however Marion eras will. And I like how they keep making him stand under sexual things like he's standing under this overeating water fountain. And then they have them all walk past a place called bang. Smart asses. I was really glad you know. I'm I don't wanna say I'm rooting for anybody because it's almost like rooting for the one that's picked to be fed to a lion. You know? Yeah. In the old Greek times like you pick your favorite, but then they get killed. So I don't wanna say picking my favorite, but my winner. One of my winners is Reese Witherspoon right girl who looks like we swither spin. And one thing one reason I think she'll be super good as a partners because she's at least honest, she see only girl who was like where Singapore. Why's everybody screaming I've never heard of that club? Columba like as far as I know that's type of math which doing so. Yeah. That was pretty funny. The girl, of course, Jimmy is like all half is closed Mamie only the very guide thing. So the girls go to dinner, and they're like cheers to funding. True, love and Singapors's. You know, that's only gonna the what if you right? I know this is one of my favorite things about the show is how they do this sort of fake like all like like, they're sort of happy for each other. Because they're all doing a lot of like talking about supporting other women like you don't support other women will, you know? Well, you're all competing for a guy. It's just odd that anybody's mad at anybody for not supporting other women, it's an odd. So to be talking like, it's an olive show to start using your feminine card. Right guard. Right. Exactly. That's my point. Nicole is like it's my freaking dream to have a Dayton Singapore, which is such a specific dream. And maybe that's why I wonder if that's the Mark in so many ways in life. "Six forty. And welcome back. George Noory with you along with James Rollins. His website is linked up at coast to coast AM dot com. But it is his name James Rollins R O L I N, S dot com. So James actually advocate for witches in the Catholic church during the inquisition there was and I find that really fascinating that there seems to be very conflicted relationship between the Catholic church and witches in exodus twenty two eighteen there's a famous line suffer not a witch to live basically that you should not tolerate witchcraft and witches should be put to death. That was the that line that gave birth to the hammer of witches Mallya, smells Mukarram, but also in Old Testament. We'd we see king Saul consulting the witch of n door to find out some information on on from the prophet who had died Samuel. And so again, we see which is. Being in service to to a great Old Testament king. So went to Spain. And I learned about this cult of Saint Columba cult of Saint Columba, Columbus, CO, L, U, MBA it slur. This cult flourished during the middle ages in Spain mainly get in northern Spain area, and which was basically considered also a bastion of which is the whole area. And according to legend Columba was a witch from ninth century who went out and met the spirit of Christ on the road and Christ told her she could not enter heaven unless you converted to Christianity. And so she did, but she remained a witch. She was martyred and beheaded for her faith. And because of that she became a Saint is specifically the patron Saint of which is to this day, not only during the middle ages, but even to teach current day in Spain, she acts as a protector for witches interceding behalf of good witches while fighting against those who corrupt such craft for evil purposes. Now, I spoke to another historian traffic is there any validity? This legend attorney historical evidence that sink Columbus existed and saurian said basically that he believed that the cultist in Colombo was based on the fact that there are many women back during the middle ages educated women who studied the natural world medicine and herbs ever drawing upon pagan knowledge somewhere accused of witchcraft they were poisoned by priests. There burned at the stake. But there are others who because this is going on. They saw they sought shelter in nunneries and monasteries where like Saint Columba they could worship Christ you at the same time, they were planning secret gardens, and he's convincing in these nunneries and helping to treat the sick and afflicted. And so there was basically smudging the line between paganism and Christianity, you know, here a women nuns that were, you know, planting the same sort of secret garden pagan gardens yet because they will send the walls, the convent they were considered to be you know, wise women none serving Christ get if those same gardens planted outside those convent, walls and were were. Being cultivated by just some village woman. She was a witch. They believe that the culpas Columbus, they this legend of Saint Columba goes back to that. There were women. There were these women that would normally be considered witches that sought solace off sought safety within within confidence in nunneries where they could still practice these pagan rites again whilst at the same time wearing the cloth of nuns. How many which is whether percentage wise James in the in those days. Well, again, the tribute the number of deaths to demolished now far commit sixty thousand souls during those during the fourth century and many of them probably not witches. They were probably justly wrong place at the wrong time. Exactly. And there's is a history glacial area where at I use it. As quote, the beginning of my book says there's an old colletion proper from from northern Spain. I don't believe in witches, but they do exist. And that is pretty much the philosophy that area. There are caves in the Pyrenees mountains northern Spain that to this day are considered to be areas where Savvas are enacted there to this day people that do believe that which is are still so in those mountains still produce it so practicing different ourselves from from the the good side of the wick inside and the bad side. And that there's still celebrate it up there now Titus into the crucible, and how do we get into artificial intelligence? How does that? Well, it goes back to the fact that. The persecution of which is pretty much was a way of persecuting women, especially women that dare question the natural order in the beginning of this book. We do see a group of women that have banded together. Group of women. Scientists in present day that has. Got it together. Because again, even today, especially in the sciences, there's still a lot of persecution of of female, scientists thought of sexism in in a scientific world. It comes to women that are that are trying to do research a lot of sort of issues going on and act in that field. The for example, the woman that won the Nobel prize for physics this year. She was the first woman to win the Nobel prize in physics in one hundred years, which is brilliant. Exactly. So at this point. The crux of the story is, you know, even though it may not be burning women at the stake today. There are still some persecution going on Selim crucible. We have a group of women scientists they actually even take on the mantle by calling themselves. Brooks of international partic-, the Portuguese word for which is rather shying away from that designation. They lean into it. So they, unfortunately, it's occurs in in Portugal and Spain and at a rises attracts the interest of this the shadowy, Chris bellum, the crucible that still might exist is sort of a harsh core of the Spanish inquisition Mara. This researcher is demonstrating her craft her breakthrough. She has an a research and during that seminar, the crucible attacks them, they murders. Most of the women marris gapes with technology and is on the run. Throughout this book. We see sort of evolution of a of eve, which is a Mara's Mars a program and their scenes from this in this book from Eve's point of view from the beginning, we see this cold calculating machine, and we'll see what look into that could become and I talked to a lot of researchers about this threat. You how close are wireless threat. Something already there or something. It's just right. It's going to happen in our lifetime. And they're all very concerned about what's going to happen this thresholds cross because once we have an artificial intelligence that's equivalent to our intelligence, it's probably the because of a super intelligence very quickly, and it's going to be almost incomprehensible incomprehensible, potentially a threat posed questions his air research, and it okay, great. If this is happening. What can we do to make sure that this AI that makes an appearance in the next five ten years fifteen years from becoming a malignant intelligence that's gonna share this planet with us. What their answer? Go ahead answer again was and this was king from founder of Skype. That the answer. And only answer we're not gonna be able to regulate our way out of this situation. I we're never going to be able to regulate people from stopping this happened kind of valley has sort of a weird philosophy of you know. You know? Go faster or die slow. Two years ago. I just stated pursuing a every everybody's pursuing a at a at a at a very rapid pace right now. It's basically almost like a gold rush because it's can be extremely profitable. And extremely powerful tool. It's everybody's after that threshold will be crossed. But the question is what's going. What's that? What's that Intel what set intelligence going to look like and how is that going to act? And so there are a small core of AI research, including the founder of of Skype who believes that the answer is not just go for a I but to pursue the harder road produced the first friendly, a I in a sympathetic empathetic to humankind. Is that possible? That's exactly my question. Thanks rescue at Georgia, you go, but that was Mike acceptable. How can you do that? How do you? How do you? How do you know? It's going to be friendly. They again, I calling different answers from different AI, researchers about different techniques, they believe that can help with that. And it comes a matter of nature versus nurture, you know, that that's a debate. That goes on how much of who we are is from our genetics, and how much of who we are is how we're raised in the same applies to this potential is gonna come onto onto this onto the world stage part of way of making it friendly is tied to code away of coating your way to try to make it friendly. But also the nurture side, it is you know, how to raise this is. So it's going to be friendly. So I hold all this information from these different air, researchers about the steps necessary to produce a friendly. And that's what I I used as my template for showing the evolution of eve. My novel is by using some of these these these programs. I'll give you example. Okay. The basis of a lot of human emotions. What drives our emotions is our hormones hormones drive, our emotions so rather than trying to control the emotions of an everyday I from the standpoint of of controlling are trying to code and emotions. Ibm has developed. What's called the endocrine mirror program was basically hormonal mirror program. Basically, they're an algorithm that will mimic the hormones. We have in our body. And if we can instill these these hormone codes into our AI, theoretically in these hormones, then will be the what will bring about emotions we want to to engender in the eye. That's from the aspect of controlling nature of the controlling the code of the I it's by doing it with these endocrine or hormonal near program, so that hopefully, it will develop into something that's emotionally stable. That's controlling the nature side controlling the the nurture side. Again, I some of the others anthems getting from these researchers were. You almost like a child is pre I shelter it produce a virtual world, and we should say I can grow and learn slowly about the world at large versus just thrust. Get into the chaos that is the internet today is and it's keeping someone can find like you would a child and slowly let it mature within its confined environment before and layer by layer exposed this AI to that's the world at large almost like a parent would raise a child if you raise a child in a safe, caring environment. You almost have a stable child if you are very abusive and callous and ice leading with this child. You may end up with something sociopathic so revenge. As combining both nature, nurture, code and upbringing to see this come to fruition. Now. It's only a small percentage of research that are pursuing this. You know, if if this book serves anything's a cautionary tale about maybe we need to have more scientists pursuing this avenue because. If we do cross that threshold with AI, that's that's poorly controlled poorly constructed thrown into an environment. That's confusing to it. When it's when it's developing self-awareness, we're gonna probably create an invention. That's going to be our own end. Is that what Stephen hawking was concerned about the late? He was concerned about and not just him. You know, there was a there was a open letter that was signed by. A group of science different. Signatory from Elon Musk Stephen hawking to leaders of Google and apple basically calling out that we need to slow down. And our rapid pace towards a development. We need to rethink this path we need to we're never going to regulate our way out of this because at some point some country. Some secret lab is still going to pursue that because it is such a valuable prize. But maybe we need to look at creating this avatar Christmas friendly, so that if a malignant a ever arises that we have somebody this AI that can compete some they either our avatar, Dave that's going to help us deal with any malignancy that does arise something that will save us. Right. Exactly. How can I run a Runamuck what could happen to it? Well, that is the main concern is that we have very little understanding of what's going on. This really disturbed me is I kept hearing research over and over it term an algorithm. Ick blackbox, what that basically means is that even today, we do not know some of these advanced programs out there, and there's some powerful programs out that we can talk about like, a Google alpha going alpha goes Eero, some credible AI machines out there already, and and what I've learned already passed that. But what even at this point? Most air researchers they construct the code machine they put in data and output occurs. They cannot explain often times how that AI came to that conclusion how a digested that data..

"To talk politics with people. So I I tend to not why would you talk about something divisive? You know, like why why even try to you know, to engage someone on that level? If you don't have to. Merican just makes me kinda straighten up. I mean, I think I've been blessed place in the world. Until now. People would say, well, if you don't like it, why are you here? Like, why are you here? Just move go back, and even though this country is pretty. Pretty. To people like me. Well, this is all I know. I think that I live in an amazing country. There's a lot of opportunities here. And I think that this could be a blip in history and. The final destination. Be careful how I say this. So as not to sound like some crazy religious because I'm not, but at the same time, I have felt that this country has been going down a moral landslide. In other words, this nation needs to get back to God. In religious traditions in biblical tradition. There's this either total salvation or total destruction. It's one or the other. We don't talk about how do you get through wastelands and ruins we're not in a physical wasteland necessarily, but we are going through this period of flake, basically, the ruins your walking through destruction. And the only way you can get through this together and not in a very fake, you know, Columba's heard away, but really, you know, lifting each other up. My name is angel would.

"Gospel lesson comes from the gospel. According to Luke. The third chapter beginning at the fifteenth. I hear what the spirit says to the church. As the people were filled with expectation all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the messiah John answered all of them saying I baptize you with water, but the one who is more powerful than I is coming. I'm not worthy to untie the thong of his samples. He will that ties you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat and to his granary, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying. The heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove and a voice came from heaven. You are my sign that beloved with you. I am well pleased. This is the word of the Lord. It is a joy to be with you all this morning. I bring greetings from Minnesota. When in January Presbyterians truly are the frozen chosen. It's an honor to preach in this pulpit to help celebrate this day with you. Nations Sundays like today can make me the style GIC remembering the day of my ordination and the training that led up to it. And looking at today's gospel lesson. I was reminded particularly of the year I served as an internet Saint Columba church in air Scotland. Ariza delightful. Little town, south west coast of Scotland down the road from Troon a little north of Turnberry and said Columba church is a large historic church was a beautiful old building not too. Unlike this one actually, but it's nestled in a very quaint neighborhood. So parking is horrible. There's no church parking lot at all. But once you finally find a space, you're sure to be greeted warmly inside. Columba has one of those very high pulpits. It's actually off to the side. You know, the preacher as to walk up the stairs and stands in front of the congregation. Six feet above contradiction. It's amazing. The height of the pulpit. I learned the loses its power when you forget your sermon notes on the front pew. And you get ready to preach realize you've got to walk down every single stare together. Given that today is baptism of Lord Sunday. I'm particularly recalling the Baptists will fought in that church. It's up front. It's solid movable stone like your own. I have a picture of it. Because on Easter Sunday. My pastor and training self was scandalised. So I arrived early that morning. It was Easter after all. And I found that the fought was full of flowers. Now, I mean full of flowers think about the biggest bouquet you could possibly put on a baptismal fought double that. And that's what was somehow organized into the font. My worship professor back at the seminary would have had a heart attack. If you saw that. But the good folks air seem to love it. And I had to say, otherwise, and I learned many lessons that year and air, not the least of which that what may seem scandalous to psalmist just a beautiful flower arrangement to others. But those flowers in that Scottish fought also helped me expand my imagination for baptism itself. You see it's in the water baptism that we become planted in the faith at the font, God confirms God's love for us routes us in the promise of the gospel. And in the water of the font, we find nourishment for future growth in the faith. That is a strange thing to debut read, even Jesus himself was baptized. Now, there's no mention of a font at the river. In fact, Luke sorts of under sells the whole event. There's not that many details Jesus didn't seem himself to make a big deal about it. You just got in line with the rest of the crowd waiting has turn showing solidarity even in line to baptism. And here's the crazy thing about baptism. There wasn't anything special about Jordan river or even a baptism performed by John the Baptist. Heck even in that fancy fought at Saint Columba or in your fought beautiful as it is here at Idyllwild. We believe the sacrament is the same. The strange truths of the faith is that though there are many fonts lots of water sources, there's only one baptism. Whether the liturgy is in English or Arabic areas one baptism. Whether it's in a red county or blue county, there's one after them wall or no wall this side of the border or the other. There's one apt isn tap water. River Jordan lake Tasca Mississippi River, there's one baptism. And I hope that our best these waters can then remind us of our common humanity that in Christ all our diversity. Our particularities reflect beauty that comes from God. And those differences in these waters draw us closer, connecting our stories to each other. So that our neighbors plight is wrapped up in our own. Now all there's one baptism though. Your journey of faith probably differs from the person sitting on the pup- side, you a different moments. You may need these waters. To remind you of particular truths. Maybe this morning, you need to hear the truth of the font that in the water you are accepted. You are enough. Paul Tillich wrote of that. Unconditional acceptance this way. You are accepted is that accepted by that. Which is greater than you in the name of which you do not fully, no. Do not ask for that name. Now, perhaps you will find it later. Do not try to do anything. Now, perhaps later you will do much do not seek for anything do not perform anything do not intend. Anything simply accept the fact that you are accepted. And if that happens to us we experience grace. Or maybe for you this morning. The truth of the font Bob was up in the midst of your doubts the truth is that despite your questions along side, your wanderings embracing your hesitates, God loves flows in these waters, even and especially for you. Maybe for you the truth is that at the font you are drawn into God's story. And here you can let your honest questions linger. Or for you this morning, perhaps the truth is that amidst anxiety and fear despite your grief and troubles of this world, you are embraced by grace that flows from the very heart of God. Reminded of the words of Henry Allen. Even when everything feels contrary being the beloved is the core of our existence. So yes at the font.
