"I guess I guess we could find out that F. L. Football is not brain surgery if people can get ready for within a week or so. Maybe you'll hear is about how hard the offense is to learn and how what a struggle it is to learn the offense true and and so. I think we'll see a little bit different seeing if it's a very short and preparation periods to start a season to throw it you here in a moment but I do you know I i. I understand the sarcasm And you know the bottom line is they'll figure it out and if they have to play a game they'll get they'll get a scaled-down playbook ready to play. But I do think it's one of those things that you know. It's not just the quarterback when it's a new coaching staff. You know when. It's a new coaching staff in a new system. It's everybody on offense and if you don't have an off season to implement that remember you know when you've got a new coaching staff you're exempt from hard knocks right. That's one of the exemptions from hard knocks right Aaron. If you've got a new coaching staff. Yes you typically. Don't you typically get an extra minicamp when you've got a new coaching staff or at least that was the case in the old? Cba You know. There's a reason for that because it does take time to put in that new system so teams that are coming back with. Continuity are teams. That you're probably GONNA WANNA play early in the season if there's no offseason if we end up having no off season now you know but no go ahead. I was GonNa say you know. Somehow we always managed to figure out at the L school field how to run play. We managed to figure it out. Tell you what you know in the Games that we would play on Brookway drive. It was see that tree over there. You know fake like going out and then run a post. Yeah you always could figure what do you think? What do you think Saudi says? It's really tailor exactly So there's another name that that became available yesterday and that name is. Joe FLACCO Oh black is available. You know I feel badly for Joe. You know him most people that listen no that I've always liked Joe FLACCO. I think he's clutch performer. Always has been I've never ever said. He's an elite quarterback. I've just said that in a big game I'd love to have joe because like like Tommy. We used to joke. He was oblivious to anything. Not The brightest bulb on the Bush never felt pressure because he really didn't understand what was supposed to be a pressure situation. More likely than not always incredibly well liked by his teammates and respected by his teammates. When he when he left. Baltimore last year I loved some of the things that his teammates both current and former said about him in what Harbaugh said about him all the more loved flacco even though I think a lot of fans realized it was time to go in a different direction with Lamar Jackson and you know the truth of the matter is last year in Denver he was. Actually you know the numbers won't say it. But I was following the broncos early in the year last year and watching some of those games and they got jobbed. I mean he brought him back in a game They started off the season with a Monday night loss at Oakland. And then they got totally hosed on a game or flacco drove him for the winning touchdown and there was a a late. Hit called on on the On the Chicago quarterback trubisky that gave him new downs and they ended up winning on a field goal. Same thing happened to him against Jacksonville. They started Oh and four they should have been two into okay co potentially could have been three in one and then they started winning some games and then flacco got hurt And you know. And that was it you know they. They put drew lock in. They like lock locks. The future FLACCO is released. He's available personally. I think he'd be a really good backup. He's not a guy right now. That probably I think he probably understands that. He's not going to get a starting job next year. And he's a great teammate. And by the way a guy that you could bring in that's sort of similar to Duane you're not I think Twain's more mobile But you know big strong can make the throws. It's not a bad backup. I don't know you've got a lot more faith Joe flacco than I do so you don't even think he can be a backup not here. I don't think close to home. Do the Redskins were interested in FLACCO. Last year there were some reports that the Redskins were one of the teams that were interested in flacco but flacco went to Denver the Denver money and the RAW elway. push Made made that the more tradeable partner. 'cause THEY SORTA GAVE. Joel say I think into where he got traded Well there aren't look in terms of the guys. That would really push dwayne at this point. Bridgewater signed Brady signed rivers signed Mariota signed are committed. Right to the raiders. So there who's left of the guys that you know other than it's Winston Newton. Those are the only two right right. So if you don't think Winston I don't and what's really interesting. All the reports that Winston could end up in New England. I think that's fascinating. I think Winstons got so much talent man so much talent if if for whatever reason if if he can figure out a way to stop throwing it to the other team as much as his own team. He's going to be prolific by the way Tommy. Aaron did did I mention this to you? The other day I was listening to this interview with Rick. Stroud on mad dog is route. Is this reporter in Tampa covered? Buchan ears in this guy went on and on about how well respected and well liked Jameis. Winston is by players and coaches in Tampa. He said that specifically said the coaches Bruce Arians they love Jameis Winston. They love his talent. They love his leadership. They love his commitment And the problem is he's throws to many inter interceptions. That's the problem but I think that's a different view or narrative on him than most people would think. Yeah.

"Team. The player were so in love with Colt and so one hundred percent behind Colt after that Dallas game. Oh my God yes. Oh my God. There's because what we sort of knew at that point but some of us knew you and I knew we were talking to people. I was talking to Mike at that point. Mike it yet to come on for that. You know to our reveal with us on our show but we we were. Everybody was starting to get you know. The news certainly media members about how Griffin wasn't very. Well liked that. He wasn't very good. That gruden was already extremely frustrated with him in his first season He was already starting to see that. This guy couldn't do it couldn't run. His offense and Colt knew the playbook you know back and forth. He knew it front way sideways backwards. The whole way he was so confident. Gruden was in Cole McCoy. But Snyder said nope. You're starting Griffin. You told me you could develop Griffin. Were three and five Roberts. Ready to play in the truth is is that the following week. Robert didn't play that poorly against Minnesota. They lost the game. But then it went downhill and it was ugly. He was terrible against Tampa. Horrible Against San Francisco. I mean these were the days were Cooley would do his film breakdown and he would say guys. I got to tell you what seriously I can't even evaluate the other players on offense because the quarterbacking is so atrocious. And that's when we got the story from NFL network. I think was breer. Who The story where. Gruden was gist laying into griffin publicly. It was truly one of the worst coach. You know articles in season about one of his own players. We'd ever ready totally submarine. He decapitated a griffin and did it publicly. Which probably you know was not the right thing to do. I remember John Thompson. Coach was still doing a show. And I remember him saying. Y- you can't do that. Maybe he wasn't doing show. I forget maybe I forget maybe you and I had him on the show or something and he said you can't do that to your quarterback publicly. You know whether he feels it. And whether he's right or not you can't do it. And he just annihilated griffin embarrassed him in that story end so griffin then got benched he finally. I was able to convince. He basically told He he told Snyder in. Bruce what Shanahan had once told Snyder and Bruce and that is if I don't start the other guy I lose the locker room remember. Mike told us that at the end of twenty three. He's like I got to the point where I was losing the locker room by playing him and Gruden. It got to that point too. He was losing the locker room by by continuing to stick Griffin out. There now. Colt McCoy didn't have another moment. You know the rest of the he didn't and then he got hurt against the giants but will forever have the Colt McCoy. Game and so Off The top of your head other redskins games with names because I got a long list including a long list. That callers and guy on twitter sent me that say. Recent wreath is ten twelve years or so One that comes to mind is asleep. Engaged game yet. That was only list. Yeah trying to end of two thousand eight Zoran run swinging gate. The the the fake field goal play the giants had called time out and they had They had to line it up and he ran it again thinking that they hadn't seen it and they stopped a cold. I mean you say demise is the PURP- you like you like that. No doubt which by the way has two names for that game. Do you remember what the other one was? No code regular bread. Yeah the Code Red gave. That's right against Tampa. Yeah that was the code red haired. Yeah that's two names. Well.

"But let us. He barely played. He was here six years but he had the biggest win of any quarterback over that six year period. I would argue at Monday night win. Not In terms of what it meant her. Say like it wasn't like a game that got them in the playoffs or something like that but But in terms of euphoria expectations you know Legacy it was. It's the biggest. It's the biggest day. Gruden's tenure Boy I didn't even consider that that's actually a good one to j gruden's biggest win. I mean you could probably say it was the game to clinch the division in Philadelphia But so this morning and we'll do it right now and I wasn't planning on doing it right now but I think it's actually I go through a lot of these. And you're gonNA remember even though I didn't prepare you for this. You're going to remember These games to the Colt McCoy game the late October. Twenty fourteen game in which he came in started the game the week before many of you remember kirk cousins had already taken over in two thousand fourteen for rg three who got hurt in the opener. or hurt early in the second game against Jacksonville Kirk came in had a couple of really good games and then lost. Confidence started throwing picks and Jay. Gruden benched him. Halfway through a game in mid October against the titans at Fedex Field Colt McCoy comes in the first pass. He throws a hitch to peer zone. And he takes it seventy yards for a touchdown. The redskins ended up winning. That game and Colt McCoy starts the following Monday night at Dallas two and five Washington against five and to Dallas Tony Romo DeMarco Murray Dez Bryant Cole. Beasley cowboys are pretty good. That year and Colt McCoy leads the Redskins to a twenty two seventeen overtime win in Dallas. They were a near double digit. Underdog that night. It's another one of those games that goes and cowboy redskin. Laura is a game that you know when you least expect it because really any cowboy fan will tell you any redskin fan will tell you about the rivalry. You know what you never know like. Anything is possible in the game's over the years like you think you're better than that team in. Somehow you end up losing that game. We've seen that in that rivalry. That was one of them. You know ten point underdogs nine and a half point. Underdogs and Colt McCoy goes twenty. Five of thirty for two hundred. Ninety nine yards rushing for a touchdown and the Redskins beat the cowboys in overtime. Twenty two seventeen a game that will forever be known by Redskin fans as the Colt McCoy. Game that is a game with a name. Tommy and there are lots of others in redskins history and I ended up going through this. We took I could've taken calls for all three hours of the show this morning. The phone bank never ever wasn't completely full with people calling in with redskin games with name. So I'm going to get the others in a moment you you can start thinking about him too but I wanted to mention that this was also the first time that we realized if we say first time it was another example of the owner stepping into an area that he should never stepped into Jay Gruden was forced to start. Rg three the following week. Rg Three was back healthy. They were playing Minnesota. The following Sunday on the road the REDSKINS had gotten it to three and five. Colt McCoy had just played a wonderful game. A memorable game a memorable game and a half for that matter and I wanNA point out at that point the.

"Visit to the Galleria. It's not about the cow. What's going on there? That's that's Post nasal drip. I've had for a couple of weeks now from the cold at before I left for Florida You know I've worn rubber gloves. The disposable gloves doctor's office and and at one point she said smugly to me. She says you know you really spreading more Germs by wearing because everything he touched. Then you know you're going to have that on your gloves unless you change gloves so I pulled out a bag and I showed her. That's why I've got two or three pairs of gloves with me. As soon as I'm done here I'll change at put on another pair of gloves. I set her up pretty good. What was her answer that she she sounds like she may have been a problem this morning. Well no okay but she. She's she's giving me grief about the glove like I haven't brains to figure out yeah. I'm still tossing surfaces and stuff and I wouldn't touch my face with them actually. They're a good reminder not to touch your face with them and as soon as you know at a certain point I throw them away. Put on a new pair of gloves while I'm out right so you know I you know I was smarter than expected. Let's say that I had a conversation yesterday with a good friend. I mean I'm GONNA leave his name out but he was used to be one of the team doctors with the wizards and he's developed into a really good friend over the years and and you know that is a profession where your first reaction would be you know. Doctors Hospitals are going to be busy. You know they're gonNA be taking calls taking patients who are going to be sort of alarmed by all of this. I know they have to you. Know basically do telemedicine. The can't see patients. I mean your Doctor Saul you. A lot of doctors are not seeing patients. Because you know all it would all it takes is one patient that tests positive and you gotta shut the whole place down and now you've infected a lot of other people and I think that's what's going on to and a lot of emergency rooms and that's why there there's this discussion about the military getting involved in setting up these these temporary hospitals with bed so that they can see patients that don't have corona you know In in have other significant more pressing and probably more serious you know Needs Acute needs But you know he said you know this telemedicine stuff. It's like you know a lot of the patients at a Lotta. These doctors end up seeing older you know. They don't know how to do facetime. They don't have to put a camera on on their on their laptop if they even have a laptop and so right a lot of people at a disadvantage you know B B because of this. You're you're absolutely I WANNA point out I suggested After the hostage video that That the president could have announced that you know we're setting up temporary hospitals where activating military activating National Guard setting up temporary hospitals in these empty. Arenas.
Colt McCoy, New York Giants Agree To Deal
"The giants and the jets and they continue to make some moves nothing to write home about per se I think with the New York and you know but the New York football giants laid to in the afternoon Thursday afternoon with colt McCoy now backing up as we speak Mister Jones so that is a better a backup don't you think that Alex standi who last took a snap well with the Tennessee back in twenty fifteen so called McCoy has had some experience in a more able bodied back up we had a chorus Brady in Tampa and everybody wants to play with Brady Robby Anderson of the jets came out and said he'd like to play with Brady well get in line because that's the word that half of the NFL wants to play with Brady at Robbie Anderson by the way not getting any kind of knocking on his door no rumors no speculation nothing a year with Robby Anderson who is not getting any kind of play with that kind of money that he wants more so and probably will re sign with the New York Jets but with the jets money I'm not the kind of money that if he wanted to make in the open market so the jets and giants have been making some moves and I guess you know Bradbury for the new York football giants Martinez the middle linebacker from Green Bay those are two notable moves and of course both teams are trying to shore up the the offense of line and I think both teams might be able to make some major moves and hope to make some major moves once we get to the NFL draft and I think it's safe to say that both the jets and the giants will be looking for an offense of linemen end or a wide receiver in this upcoming

"My friend Colt McCoy is joining me to talk about his last decade. In two thousand ten he was a senior here at the University of Texas and his football team went undefeated that year in face to Alabama in the National Championship game in Pasadena. California at the Rose Bowl during that game colt was injured in the first half and never returned. His team ended up losing the biggest game of his career. So far two thousand ten he was drafted. He was also married that year in over the last decade he's been on three different. NFL teams and he and his wife. Rachel have had three children today. We look back on colts last decade. And no matter. If you're a football fan or not you you will enjoy hearing his perspective on what the last ten years has brought him and how he is manage the mountain tops and the valleys that come from playing football for a living side. Note you guys. If interstate his wife Rachel was an early guests on the happy hour. Go back and listen to her episode number seven Yes. She was a super early guest way back in the day when I just asked all my friends to come on the show with me yes. Rachel was number seven. Also this makes now the second couple where both the husband and the wife have been on the happy hour. Winter and Jonathan have both been on the happy hour. Now Rachel and Colt McCoy Super Crazy. Here is my conversation with Colt McCoy okay. Cold welcome to the special edition of the happier called your last decade. You are officially on happy hour and let me tell you cold. I don't interview Dude Dude. So this is super exciting. This is a big deal. My wife already told me she did. She feels you. She filled me in. This is a special privilege free to get to be on a happy hour with Jamie. It totally your wife has been on the happy hour so now we can say we've had both McCoy's I like it which that's not a common thing so we're doing this about we're starting to new decade it's twenty twenty now and we're looking back and saying hey what was life like in two thousand ten and that was ten years ago. Isn't it crazy. A lot has happened in your life in ten years for for sure for sure a lot. Okay so I want to go way back and I want to go back to January of two thousand ten because for anyone that's listening. That is a college alleged. Football Fan At that point in your life your plan for University of Texas it was your last year and you guys were actually playing in the national championship. So take me way back and that feels like another lifetime ago for you. I'm sure but can we talk about what it was like for you. As how old were you twenty. Three twenty two twenty two probably twenty. Yeah twenty three year old going into the biggest game at their lifetime at that point in your life. What was that like? It was crazy but at the same time. When you're in college you just don't you just don't think about what's next you're so involved in school and your football team in all your teammates are also your classmate like you've been with those same group of guys for four five years is a think what was unique about that you know now being in the NFL for the last ten years you just just think about the future? What's next you just you thought about going to class in going to play football and that that kind of kept it all in perspective but yeah going into two thousand ten in January January of two thousand ten? We made it to the National Championship game. Which I think was the goal for me personally but for all the guys and that was that was the biggest this game for for all of us we watched the two thousand five team go to the National Championship in? You're going back to the Rose Bowl where they won the national championship in two thousand five liven. Now we get to go back and try to do it again the excitement was just almost uncontrollable and it was a fun weekend in California in you know that game was definitely the kind of the climax for all of us yes earthy for me as a senior so I have a question for you on the team in two thousand five when they won the national championship. You've been ship. I was at Richard. That you're so just a redshirt. Did you get to go to the game. Yeah I was like holding clipboard. downplays the place. I had a front row seat to that so I can only imagine. Then you were what like eighteen years old then and you're looking ahead and you're seeing you know Vinca and that whole team win the National Championship. That was your I was on that prize again right. I mean I was I was eighteen. Yeah that's right I just graduated high school to maybe yeah I had I. I really had thought to myself like I am not good enough to play this game. I played football before but this is not football. This is this is professional football writing I'm small and I. I am out of place when I watched that game. But you know I I worked worked hard and got open some doors for me and you know we were back in it for years later okay. I have another question that doesn't even have to do with a decade but you just said something that made me think about this. The feelings that you feel at eighteen like watching that team play in thinking. I don't know how I got here. I'm underqualified I don't think I compete at this level. Did you experience those same commotions fast forward to you know five years later. Two thousand ten stepping into your first experience as a NFL player a little bit. Yeah I remember that feeling when I was eighteen because I remember after that game watching Vince young and our team and I think combined on that field there was like thirty something draft draft picks. Shoes you know it was. It was one of the Greatest College Football Games ever in two thousand five so I remember coming home. That offseason Vince telling me that he was going to the NFL. And I'm I'm thinking to myself well I I need to like transferred go back home and play it like Abilene Christian. I can't do what you just did. Your you're six five two hundred and thirty pounds just can run a four That's just not in my in my blood and but you know so. I had a lot of good people around me and they they push me I mentally. I was pretty strong and kept growing and again all those doors opened up. Formula was able to play for four years when you get to the NFL. It's sort of the same idea where you're playing when I remember when I first got into the NFL locker room. I was playing with guys who were thirty years old and had three kids in a fan. And I'm like these guys are. This is their job. They're putting food on the table by playing football. Oh boy I never been paid to play football in. It was still. It was still a college game to me where he just. You know you with your teammates. You just go out and play okay and hope to play good and but you quickly realize like this is way more than a game once you get to the NFL. There's politics involved of there's families involved. There's I mean it's just a it's so different it's played so differently than than it is in college in one day. Show up the guy that was in the locker right next to you could be cut and never play football again. Job Takes the stakes. Were just so so much. Higher Risk Played Bat in college. You know they might just put the next guy in. But you're not gonNA cut you know you're you're you may get benched but he's you're still on the team in the NFL. You fumble baller. Don't interception or you know you do something wrong. You get hurt you just you lose your job and you may. They never play again so that it's just a totally different sport which is so interesting to me as clearly. Just a spectator of the game obviously never played and never well but it is interesting to kind of have that mindset of these are real people on this field who have real emotions and are playing a job. I think we can forget that S. people who watch the game exactly in. Listen it's a privilege to be to have played this game for so long and I. I don't take that for granted but you're exactly right. These are these are real people with real families that still try to keep it in perspective of replaying a kid's game for a living but at the same time we all know that you're one injury away your one mistake away from getting cut in having to move on and do something else in your life and so the just every day. It's it's there's a responsibility in a in a kind of approach that's that's the way different than playing college. Which is maybe why some people just they? They're amazing in college and they just don't make it in the NFL like they. Just maybe the pressure or the stress or I don't know what the mental game that it takes is a lot harder than we ever could imagine for sure and at the same time there's just so many there's just so many factors that play into having a good career in the NFL hoosier coach. How good is the team that you get drafted to How good is the the scheme that you're running? Do guys stay healthy for that year. You know if you have a bunch of injuries. There's just so many things that factor into the NFL does a really good job of you know putting up front the faces that have played for so long. You know the Tom. Brady's the drew brees the IT. And the coaches who have kosher long time those are all the good positive stories but there's so many stories of guys who've had unbelievable college careers that when they get to the NFL. They're just they get into the wrong system. Maybe they didn't. You know fit the right system that they got into or they were injured. Whatever just not make get and it's a it's a real thing if it's a production business that's why they call it not for long addict average lifespan for players? Like a little over two hundred well. Congratulations to ten years in office. Okay I want to go back to that game In January of two thousand ten. It's the national championship. You guys I think you had an undefeated season Tell me if my research is right. I think you're you're the second most wins for quarterback in division. One still right now. Is that true a so yes okay. Good job okay. So take me back and I want to hear what you think about that. Kid that Colt McCoy that played in that game got injured and didn't get to finish the game. What do you want to say to him? Ten years later so many things This is interesting. Nobody's ever asked asked me a question with that direction.

"I think they do too. I'll just be real curious about how the business factor plays into the quarterback decision because you're kidding yourself if you don't think it's a factor <hes> well. Oh you know what if it's a factor then why was dwayne haskins third on this unofficial depth chart they would've taken advantage of that opportunity for them higher in the del sol some take hoyer has has i mean because jay gruden has controlled the depth chart well that that's what that's all jay. Gruden cats control when it comes to the quarterback back but the training camp depth chart but if if you're you're if you're right and i'm not suggesting that this isn't a possibility i i do think that there is a chance that dwayne haskins comes in against cleveland on thursday night the fourth quarter in goes eight for nine and bruce and dan say go get him. They don't need to worry about goes. After chart. This kid could sell himself yet but if they were really like all dialed in on revenue and ticket kit sales then with this unofficial depth chart they would have said jay put join at the top who cares where he is right now. We'll get people fired up. We might sell some tickets 'cause there's. They certainly didn't sell any extra tickets pudding cult for wayne third no they didn't you're right. What did you make of honest honest. J. directed jay saying no chance or highly doubt trading trent williams. I i think that was <hes> him speaking in the moment. I think they're gonna wind up trading trent williams because i think they're going to have to i think i don't i think he's going to report. I think he's going to sit out the seas. I'm surprised you didn't pick up on what that meant. Okay are usually much more perceptive than that. Let me help you with you know. It's a little bit early the morning still embiid with this one. That's bruce allin bruce allin. Tommy is in there saying f him and he this medical bullshit and this contractor charley casserly. Did you hear what he said to j. P. feeling on his podcast yesterday now said it's all about money all about money any nothing about medical. I don't know if charlie no something or fees just speaking from experience but i think bruce allen has told this organization. We're we're not budging. Remember what less carpenter story said last week they are going to try to bleed him dry and make him suffer the pain of not getting a game sunday check and he'll come back bruce's stubborn like that tommy i think the best thing to do would be to have him actively on the trade bloc waiting waiting for the offer that you can't turn down also simultaneously saying get your ass in here. We need you and by the way you need to be here here. If t to play the redskins could trade him when the regular season starts even if he's in but i think with jay gruden said is yeah <hes>. We're not trading them. I know bruce and once he gets his heels dug in on something like this he doesn't wanna lose that battle. I also think so. I'm surprised that you didn't pick up on that. <hes> the other part of that is that they feel and i've heard this that they would be setting a terrible precedent of leading the player win. You know bruce doesn't want players or agents to win. I just don't think trent williams. I think trent williams outlier. There's no other player that would have his is kind of leverage right now. There's no cop so therefore it's not a precedent you have a player whether you agree with with charlie casserly or not you have a player that according to all reports and according to some of his former teammates like dangelo hall is basically said the redskins medical staff it. You can't trust the people who take care of. You and i don't want to play for them anymore. I don't trust is them. That's a precedent setter. I mean how can you think of how many holdouts have been because the star player basically through sub sub channels not directly yet. He hasn't spoken directly hasn't done anything social media wise it your surrogates through friends indited if he's done it rather than them breaking his confidence right basically indicted the redskins medical staff..

"Road. He's not going to beat the patriots. He's probably not going to beat the bears and probably not going to beat the cowboys but do you you by the way i i would bet keenum is not traded and i just suggested here they should go with recline suggesting that if he's way behind colt well and he doesn't really grasp it quickly enough to give jay gruden the confidence that there may be a contending team same sort of <hes> thing with you know with williams. There may be a contending team that needs a backup that isn't comfortable with their own backup or has a starter you go down in preseason early in the season and ends up offering you know a shitload for for case keenum or a lot more than you'd think that's what i would do at trent williams is well. The redskins start need to start accumulating future picks by leveraging a couple of key players. They have case keenum's not a great player but he plays very important position. He's played it at a level that could make them attractive to a team. That's desperate but back to haskins moment. Do you agree with me that it seems uh-huh that a lot of people seem resigned to <hes> haskins sitting for much of if not not the entire his entire rookie season and being okay with it and that that's not a good thing. I don't think that's a good thing i don. He better play this year and there's context cole. Mccoy stays healthy and they're eight and three and they're having this incredible season. Okay well then. He's not gonna play but if they're three and eight or they're two and five. I wanna see that dude out there. I understand that you know the the reaction. I get from people on social media media and what i read is <hes> that if case keenum is the starter they're more comfortable with wayne haskins sitting but if colt mccoy is the starter there through the roof angry they they don't wanna see that i mean colt mccoy's reputation among redskins fans is so low in terms of his ability to play that. I think that they that that's some people can live with a haskins sitting behind case keenum. They can't live with him sitting behind colts. Yeah i see i know what you're saying and i. I do think that the majority of the fan base feels that way about colt not personally but just in terms has as a starter as a quarterback in that they'd rather see somebody else elsa case keenum if it's not going to be haskins but i do think that the majority of the fan base seems to be okay with the franchise being super super patient with haskins and i am not in favor of playing with these nowhere near ready to play. I think that that could be something that ends up being detrimental title detrimental to his career but what i'm saying and you still have an answer. I just want to get a a clear cut answer from you if they're two and five two and six and they still tell you that haskins isn't ready. Do you think that that would be an indication of something..

"Yet colt mccoy tommy. That's at the top of my list for when tom he gets in cole mccoy number one on the depth chart the official depth chart <hes>. Do you think he's got a chance to start at the opener well. I think he has a chance yeah. I think he has a chance. I think he's got more of a chance talking to some people know yeah. I i think look let me just get the truth in front of some of the illusion that comes out from time to time. I've liked colt mccoy for two reasons one. He had we at his post game a press conference after he led them to a win when he came out who hasn't had you with their posts conference like r._g. Three when he started to let the planes landed and indulge and you sit oh my god. This guy is just the best when i was in full time colt with that cold was so emotional and that moment so much cowboy monday nike it it was the tennessee when he came in. He ran to win for him and that post game press conference. I was so so impressed with that and got to know a little bit but that's not why. I thought that he would wind up being redskins starter at some point. I i learned how much jay gruden liked him and that was the whole thing. I knew if the head coach like this guy. There's got to be something to i think jay gruden is. It's a good judge of quarterback. He's a better judge than i am house that so my whole thing about cole mccoy was more because i knew the head coach wanted him to play liked him. A lot really loved the way he ran his offense and so we're at that point now. This is the the only thing getting in the way of cole mccoy. <hes> starting at this point are bandages and splints which are even money to be part of the conversation. I had worked with that. I agree with all that this is why i'm not jumping up and down <hes> you know celebrating aden for up to high heaven because he is so fragile he soap breakable so you know it's surprising as we're sitting here talking about it. It's first time i've thought about i i michael phillips on the radio showed. It actually really like michael. I think he really lets loose like he's. He doesn't worry about <hes> you know. Piss anybody off and you know. I think it's not you know i. It's not surprising that dwayne haskins according to everybody. That's been down there in his talk. Coach's isn't ready yet that it's coming along slowly for him..

"I'm gonna gonna forget where i read it. It was last week. I don't think i've mentioned it on the podcast or or the radio show but i read it <hes> and it was basically quoting various people around on the league anonymously about daniel jones and the net of it was most of the elite insiders think that the giants got got it right and had no problem with dave gettleman reaching for jones where he reached for them. It is the media in the fans that were you know. Are you kidding me. You passed on dwayne haskins for this guy from duke. You picked him here. You could have got him at seventeen in a lot of the league insiders think the gentleman is is going to be proven right on daniel jones that he may not be an elite quarterback but he's going to be solid good top half of the league starter it with a long career and they said bottom line is you can't take the chance. If you think you've got your guy. When it comes to a quarterback on waiting until will your next pick seventeenth overall right wasn't it the giants had a jones at six in they had seventeen for dexter lawrence correct that was right right so and they said a lot of the league insider said despite what some people were reporting that he wouldn't have been picked before seventeen they believe believe that denver and or washington or somebody else would have selected jones before the giants got on the clock at seventeen and the inside view anonymously from league league exacts in league. <hes> people in the league is that the giants are going to be proven right on daniel jones. It is what it have been interesting and i think it would have gotten ugly. If daniel jones wasn't picked with the six pick and was available at fifteen well. That would have gotten a little bit ugly. Well we know again. Whoa from what we know and what's been reported. The football people didn't have dwayne haskins with a first round grade raid and if it was i run..

"I think the giants are five hundred team. They've already. What were they last twelve. What were they last year. The giants can't even remember what they were five and eleven something like that that i don't know but they had very good not. They weren't very good although they got better at the end of the year if you recall that they were getting better at the five and eleven but i i wanna pull up their schedule last year because i'm pretty sure at the end of the year they were winning allergy points against well. They beat chicago and they beat. They crushed the redskins. I should've beaten philly on the road beat san francisco in tampa and then lost their last three games two of which they lost by point two two playoff teams the colts and the cowboys. I don't i think the cowboys had anything to play for and that season finale if my memory serves me correctly but if the steelers are good and the steelers are playoff if the steelers the bell and brown then i think that's a statement of i agree the giants. It's interesting that you say that the the giants you know. They got rid of a lot out of players that i still can't figure out why they got rid of those players when you think about them. I don't know why they would have gotten rid of olivier. Vernon like that guy is a beast and do they really have his replacement. You know the snacks harrison vernon <hes> landon collins letting him go. They got rid of talented players on defense that made them pretty capable defensive team the last few dave gettleman. Dave gettleman put his his his butt on the line. I mean he he. He's already being ridiculed before they even play a game. Because of some of the personnel decisions he's made in somebody guys that he's kissed off like landon collins yes well we'll inland to collins's made it very he's going after he's going after they've already promised super bowls you know he's already gotten caught up into the racket that he's over promising and under delivering and ashburn promising not one super bowl but two and dys he's he's promised that he's going to destroy his former team for being so disrespect and he's going to get the general manager and he's gonna knock the general manager of the ground in pre game warm warm ups the giants here here early in training camp have had a two big losses at wide receiver sterling shepherd shirt and then golden take suspended for a few games so i they've got saquon barkley. I think eli manning still has something left. I think i'm the only person that believes that they've upgraded their offense. I agree with you and they've got tim young talent on defense. It's not proven talent in peppers who they got back in that trade right they got your peppers back right erin yeah and then they drafted after the the <hes> the defensive linemen from clemson <hes> with their second pick you know because they picked <hes> the quarterback overall first and then dexter extra warrants so i think the giants could be better. I think eli manning is a better quarterback than most people think. I think daniel jones is going to be a better quarterback than most people think. I think the one thing i do have a question about is i. I have no idea of pat. Shurmur is a good good point have noise either yeah. Have you seen some of the early things being said about daniel jones training camp. It's training camp. I mean we we don't know what's really means but the overall there was a story i read..

"By without diva wide receivers you can. I mean jerry. Jones made the comment the other day that you don't need a rushing champion anymore to win in the n._f._l. Thing is he. He needs a rushing champion. That's my position. I mean zeke elliot. He needs it. I think that's true. I actually think that his team is built for zeke doc elliott yes and that he's the difference between you know two wins potential year which can be the difference between eleven five and a and a division title like last year or nine and seven in no playoffs. I think they need zeke elliott but i do have this strange feeling about the steelers this year without out. I love latvian bell as a runner. I just think he's got one of the most unique running styles ever. I love him as a back but he was a problem and antonio brown was a problem wouldn't wouldn't surprise me at all if pittsburgh being really good this year well what and the giants are better than people think i think the giants are going to be better than people think <hes> and there is this sediment adam and that the steelers will be fine just because they've built up a reputation of excellence over years and people think that the institution of the organization or stronger than individual players if that happens. Is that a statement yes. Is that a statement two other players around the lease statements of the league. If if the judge let's just say that the steelers went ten and six and went to the postseason and the giants were the surprise team in the n._f._c. and went ten and six and got a wildcard hard and cleveland and oakland tanked badly and obi. Jay was a problem and antonio brown didn't play and was mouth and off once he came back. It was a disruption yet would be a bit of a statement. I think people have an intuitive sense of how this could work out the the problem with those two players in particular is they are so gifted they're so over the top gifted and talented indifference makers and antonio brown's been a difference maker in terms of winning. Yes you know he's played on winning teams in pittsburgh but i like their team and i don't know why people are all i mean the cleveland. The thing to me is getting a little bit out of control in the end the a._f._c. north. They still have smith schuster who has a chance to be a very good player. They drafted james washington. The oklahoma state kid last year. A lot of people think that he is potentially going to be a star. James connor showed you that he is a he's a twenty twenty carry a game back. He's not levy on belleville. Maybe on bell was a massive yes and they still they still got been and yes. They've got ben roethlisberger yeah look. I don't think the giants are good. I don't think the giants the giants have different problems steelers. That's true. Giants have a quarterback issue do that. A lot of people think exists prop maybe over inflated but still i mean they have issues beyond their their wide receiver. I don't think it'd take ten wins for the giants to make a statement..

"Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio on Twitter, Facebook, you're weighing in about the rights of paying customers has fans and what they should be allowed to say and not allowed to say. And we'll get to some more of those reactions before we get to the top of the hour, but a few moments here to talk about the big move in free agency for the Washington Redskins. Let's welcome Redskins reporter Craig Hoffman who covers the team for one zero six seven the fan our affiliate in DC. Good morning, Craig. Thanks so much for a couple of minutes. Good morning, Amy you what's funny about that highlight? I actually watched. I know exactly what play that is watching that game back is I was re watching some Landon Collins yesterday that was the first quarter play. And I'm ashamed I know that. Well, no, you shouldn't be ashamed. That's diligent fits your homework. So then what is it about? Landon Collins that the Redskins wanted they need to safeties. And he is really going to be good at one of those spots. He's more of an defensive players hate this term. But I'd say term offensive coaches us. I've discovered that over the last twenty four hours to he's a box safety. So he's going to play down around the line of scrimmage a lot more. He's going to play more underneath and coverage. But they've needed a player like that for years and years and years and everyone loves to not loves to. But everyone will basically set tell you. They haven't had a great safety Sean Taylor past and he's a different kind of player because no one was like that. No, one was like what what Sean Taylor was in terms of the range over the top and things like that. But he's basically half of what John was in terms of the physicality coming down towards the line. The ability to play the run the ability to to crush you coming over the middle. He's actually decent in man-to-man, depending on who you ask. I talked to an offensive coach yesterday. Who said he's a pain in the butt to play against because he can cover tight ends. And do some of the things that you'd ask and underneath player to do. He's not going to be the guy that can be an original over the top. He's not Earl Thomas. He's not he's not that type of player, but they still obviously need that type of player. But, but this was also a massive massive need for them. And he fills it on a very creative contract that is going to actually help them sign some other free agents as well fix years. Eighty four million dollars would be the life of the contract. Three pro bowls for Landon Collins at just twenty five years old also eight career interceptions. And you mentioned Sean Taylor who is one of Landon Collins idols, and someone that he very much admires. And so that the filling the need is great. What about the star power of a Landon Collins, though, in the fact that he's already made a name for himself? Not to mention he comes from Alabama. Yeah. Which is huge for them. They could have six starters from Alabama next year. That's insane. But it's also not because they have the best football players. And so what they've done. With their locker room. And I know it's kind of weird because one of those guys is probably gonna be Reuben foster to so to say like, oh, yeah, they're sounded a bunch of choirboys and a bunch of just really high character. Guys win Reuben foster is one of them. Okay. He's a little bit more the exception. And you know, there's a difference between character and football character and his problems away from the field are a little different. But Reuben foster in a separate box and not deal with him. But for the other the other guys guys Doron pain guys like Jonathan Allen guys. Like, Ryan Anderson. These are their first first and second round picks from eighteen seventeen in seventeen these are tone setter type of players in their locker room and they've made an effort, including dismissing DJ swearing, which is part of the reason they needed. Landon Collins to get players with a certain type of attitude it just so happens that a lot of these guys are coming from the exact same place. And so it's not coincidence that Landon Collins went to Alabama and that he played with some of these guys he would've crossed briefly with with those three. Players. I don't know about pain. But but with Allen in Anderson. The they are just a different type of breed. They come to the NFL with a different kind of attitude. A selfless team first attitude that they want in that locker room. And so that is a huge part of this. And and it's not so much the star power. I think that's a little bit of an overplayed narrative because early and Dan Snyder's ownership. He definitely did star chasing. I'm not saying that Daniel Snyder is all of a sudden turn to this magnificent owner that has certainly gone away under Bruce Allen who is not as interested in star chasing. They do need star power. They do need people to buy tickets because their attendance is terrible. And they've got a million problems as a franchise. They don't think Landon Collins is necessarily a ticket seller. I think Landon Collins has star power because he's a good player need they need good players badly. And so the that fills a need from from the star void in that. Oh, no that's far more important than whether or not he has household recognition though. That would come with him being a star in that secondary. Craig Hoffman covers the reporter covers the reporter. It's a it's been a long show. Craig covers the rent for our affiliate in DC. The fan. We're happy to have him for a couple of minutes. Here this morning. What was the reaction to the trade for case keenum as the stopgap quarterback? It was an initial freak out because people thought that that was that was like, oh my God. They're trading for keenum. This is their answer quarterback. And then as people like me more reporting on it. We're able to say like actually this is this is just not like they're not done yet that kind of temper the reaction, and then it kinda turned and actually much like Landon Collins deal. Once we got some of the details, a kind of turned into praise for the Redskins for an office of a really smart and savvy move, they essentially got it. It's funny because you ask people around the league. And this is now happened to me, I think five or six times who just case reminds you of colts Colt McCoy their actual starter. So they they essentially got insurance, and they did it in a way that did not take them out of the Josh Rosen sweepstakes. It did not take them out of any other drafting drew locker. Or dangle Jones at fifteen they could still do those things because financially it's feasible. And actually if they were to trade for rose in the four quarterbacks on the roster combined Alex Smith who obviously will not play but carries a twenty point four million dollar cat figure Colt McCoy at three point five million. Case keenum at three point five million and Rosen would count for the Redskins at one point eight because Arizona takes the pro rated version of his signing bonus. They were all cost less combined than what Minnesota's gonna pay Kirk cousins. And I don't say that to be a shot at Kirk. It's just interesting an interesting math facts. And so to get a guy who has some NFL experience it back in their building. Because all they had was Colt McCoy was really smart really savvy, and they did it at a specific number. They wanted that three point five million because that is exactly what Colt McCoy makes. And so they can enter a quarterback competition that is a true competition that no one's gonna win based off finances. I gotta go back to what you said about Colt McCoy being the starter. So that is the thing and case keenum is the backup or there's going to be a competition. No, there's going to be competition. But McCoy was the starter because there was no other quarterback with two healthy legs in the building. I don't say that to be glib. It just it. It was a fact the only other guy that that was even floating around that they could have resigned was Josh Johnson. And he just had ankle surgery. So even he's not available. They're not going to resign him because he's not anywhere close to being able to play football. So they had nobody literally no other like they had nobody to throw passes outside of Colt McCoy, not they did not have a Kampar, nevertheless, a viable backup. And so now they bringing case and case in coal can compete for the starter slash backup job in again. Because of the finances they are dead even in that moving forward. What else did they desperately need? A lot. They need a playmaker. Actually, they really need two to three playmakers on offense. So they could probably stand upgrade at wide receiver. The question is exactly where they go. The bigger body type of guy to replace Josh dachshund. I think that is probably the play or at least make dachshund more rotational player and then move on from him after this year the final year of his rookie contract. They will not pick up his fifth year option. They did sign Paul Richardson to forty million dollar contract last year. He was hurt. Literally the entire year. He got hurt and training camp. Play through a for a couple of weeks. They could stand upgraded at the speedier type of position Trey Quinn. I like a lot who's Mr. relevant last year's draft. He's gonna react. Now. They're starting slot. They could use another receiver they need. A why tight Endo a blocking receiving combo tight and to go opposite of Jordan Reed. It probably need to sign a running back. If they can't resign Adrian Peterson. Obviously that would be the number one choice to pair with Darius guys in Chris Thompson. And then they need another safety. They need. I think. Could upgraded inside linebacker need care again. So yeah, they need a lot of they need a lot. And frankly, they need another quarterback too. But is that all other than that? The play was great MRs Lincoln. They do need a lot. But I do think that they've done some smart things. I think the keenum was smart, I actually like the Colin signing a lot and to get into the details. Briefly of the contract not to bore everyone. But they they were able to get it in a cat number for four million dollars this year. So for a team that's cap strapped in free agency. They were able to figure out how to get Landon Collins on big number eighty four million dollar contract that only counts four million dollars this year towards the cap. So they can still pursue guys. Like CJ Moseley who they're still in hot pursuit of before. I let you go. Craig Sean Jackson who was drafted by the eagles. Oh, eight spent three years with the Redskins before he went to Tampa for a couple of seasons is now back in the NFC east. How do you like that move? I like it. I look I like any team that can get Sean Jackson. I've seen what he does to defense is. He scares the daylights out of them. And he opens up everything the Redskins offense has not been the same since he left and guys like Jordan reading Jamison Crowder benefit benefited hugely from. Him when he was here because he is he literally moves the safeties back another five yards because there's just nobody like him in almost NFL history. I mean, he played twelve games last year. I saw this last night. He played in twelve games last year and was fifth in the league in twenty plus yard frigates. Like he just is the guy that can get behind defenses like nobody else's ball tracking abilities super unique. And so his ability to make big plays is a complete game changer. So for Philly and Carson Wentz who obviously has a huge arm and a guy who can extend plays of all of a sudden, Sean is able to just get free late and plays. They're going to score two to three touchdowns next year on extended plays where to Sean just decides to run past everybody as Carson runs around and Carson launches when deep I mean, those kind of plays are invaluable in the NFL. So I think it's a smart move for Philly, and obviously that ups the Redskins need and my neck of the woods for them getting that deep safety. I mean, I don't know how much sleep you had. I know you were complaining. About it before you went to bed, which is fine. I was gonna say you have great through and are very eloquent. I wish I had that because sometimes lack of sleep. It doesn't matter what I'm trying to say it comes out completely different. So I'll send you the coffee. I don't wanna get in trouble for Paola. But I will send you the talk. All right. You can follow Craig on Twitter at Craig Hoffman. He's busy. It's it's that time of the year. It's time to tamper Redskins reporter for one of the things that with the fan, Craig. You're the best. Thank you so much for a couple of minutes. You got it. Amy. I mean, can we all be that great at this hour of the morning with out any issues that was awesome? Craig to make time for us live and also great information there on just one of the teams in free agency that is trying to put together a resurgent locker room resurgent roster fill some holes some through injury some through defections, and that is the story in pretty much every franchise war room in this time of the year. We still have one more full day to go with this tampering. And then we'll actually start the NFL league year. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence..
Broncos trading Keenum to Redskins
"Case keenum to the Washington Redskins that one will officially happen next week as well bought they swapped late round picks, the split his salary keenum expendable in Denver. With of course, Joe flacco now in a Broncos uniform. So the Broncos really stopgap quarterbacks last year, it was case keenum this year's going to be Joe flacco course, Peyton Manning was not a stopgap when they got him in John Elway zero. That was a big time acquisition that helped the Broncos win a Super Bowl and get to another one. So the last couple of years though, they're trying to find some magic here with some guys off the scrap heap. I don't know how much flacco has left in the tank we'll find out in twenty nineteen. But case keenum to me is a good backup quarterback in the NFL. I guess he's an okay starter on a mediocre to bad team. Maybe, but I don't see case keenum the long-term answer in DC. They had to do some where you really going to go into the season with an injured Alex Smith and Colt McCoy and a rookie if they were to drop on. We'll talk more about the

"These guys we thought it would just be the lender. Four nets Christian McCaffrey's players like that, you know, the at Oliver types this year, he's not playing but in Rashawn carbon. You getting second third round draft choices not playing in bulk games that shocking to me. Like, I'm with you too. I it didn't even cross my mind that will Greer might not play in the bowl game. Like mine either. When it. Yeah. When I'm looking at the wire win anything when I look up on this computer in the wire, and I see that of honest first time I've ever even considered the possibility, but I get it, man. I get it. Like, I know what you mean borderline first round pick. But he's going to get to work out for scouts. And all the is going to have opportunities to show realistically could have lit up. Syracuse is defense for four hundred and twenty yards. Probably. So that would have been a good, look, I guess, but he also could've gotten taken a shot to the neat. Like you in the last three weeks we've seen Alex Smith Colt McCoy and McKenzie Milton suffered potentially devastating career ending injuries. I'd be scared to like, I would I get it. It's out of playoff game. Probably not even a new year six type game, but I- Camping World. Okay. No offense Camping World. I'm just I get it. All right. So again, you're asking people to be enthusiastic and watch and be fired up for bowl games. I'm not aren't play because I'm not gonna watch. Right. You got you got thirty. You got he's at seventy eight thirty nine bowl games. Seventy eight teams involve a lot of six and sixteen involved in these bowl games and the second and third round draft towards their players that are trying to push their way into the first not playing. Well, how you pushing your way into the first of not playing playing gets you momento. To work out four scouts attic. At all senior bowl. If he's going to do that in which I don't know if he's going to do. But you've got opportunities to do that what you do. But I think playing in this game can help you. And especially if you're trying to separate from two or three other quarterbacks, which in my opinion, he would be trying to do or we'll be trying to do. Now. Are they going play in these bowl games? I don't know. We haven't. We just found out will not is through lock is Ryan Finley Jones. I'd be stunned. If drew lock didn't plan is. All right. Well, again, if you have a game where you light it up that separates and creates momentum. It can just loyalty to your team. It's the team you went to after Florida. I'd finish it out. I understand Jalen Smith. That's why there's the fear. You mentioned the quarterback. But the Jay. Yeah. The Notre Dame Ohio State gain the prevented. Jalen Schmitz from being a top five pick in the first round rather. He was a second round pick to the Dallas Cowboys in his career at that point. It looked like being jeopardy. Fortunately, he's back and he's playing very well. But he was a second round pick not a top five pick. That's the fear of playing in a game that at the end of the day Dari, anybody gonna remember these. Oh, no. Y you argue not to I argued to play didn't try to enhance your draft rating and maybe separate from other quarterbacks and AB push your way into the first round. Do we think you're already there? Then you're not gonna play..
Redskins QB McCoy breaks fibula in right leg, out for season
"Quarterback Washington. They got beat in Philadelphia last night Colt McCoy broke his leg. Second time. Lost a starting quarterback to a broken leg. Alex Smith out Washington now six and six they fallen fallen back in the race one time they went first place right now, they're sitting here with Philadelphia. But. What do you say? What did you see JP? Philly covers his team for NBC sports, Washington, brother. That's three straight losses, man.
Newbie Mark Sanchez replaces Redskins QB McCoy, out for season with broken leg
"It was a twenty eight thirteen loss for Washington to the eagles McCoy also becomes the second quarterback for Washington to suffer such a fate. Alex Smith broke his fibula and tibia in week eleven so now Washington at six and six has to try and stay in the playoff picture with Mark Sanchez who was signed on November nineteenth. It was a tall task no doubt. But you know, there's no excuses to make you just do your very best. And I'm grateful for the opportunity, and you know, I was praying for an opportunity and I thank God for the opportunity. It just never wanted under these circumstances. So with respect to Alex and cold. You know, I gotta do my very best to to play well and help rally this team in figure out a way to win. And that's that's the ultimate former respect I think for those guys because guard definitely breaks for them. They're they're great competitors. And great people. And so you never wanted under those circumstances. Like, I said, but you go on your very best. Nine eleven days since Dallas. How many did you get any reps? No cole. Cole was getting ready to play. And that's the way it should have been. I would have wanted that. If I was in cold shoe. So I I totally understood that there was you know, for me to go and play was an emergency situation and those things happen. So you know, now it goes from contingency plan to game plan. And and we got another tough task next week the thing we're at home, and you know, we got a on a short week too. So, but like I said at the beginning, then there's no excuses, and to be totally honest. I mean, nobody cares. Nobody cares that you know, you charged with a job you get paid to play this game. And you get paid to go win. And that's what people expect. So that's the kind of pressure. We put on ourselves must more than outside our building. And. I mean, I can't tell you how much I respect those guys in there. I can't name all of them who came up to me. Not just because I'm new but all the guys who came up to me like, man. Hang in there. You're good. We get it. We understand. We know you're a vet. But we understand rally for you. You're gonna do great next week. And that I mean for a new guy on a team that that feels good because it's like the first day high school, where do I sit at launch kinda thank you know. So there's there's a lot of that going on. But I think we'll be just fine. And we just gotta work hard put her head down and work hard and challenge each other and gone player. Best Mark Sanchez now the starting quarterback for Washington after replacing Colt McCoy on Monday McCoy leaving the beginning of the second quarter after going four for four for fifty yards. But leaves the game with a broken leg. Eagles go on to get the win twenty eight thirteen they've won back to back games after back to back losses Washington and Philadelphia both one game behind Dallas in the NFC east. Carson wentz. "Part of it. You talk about the mindset. I mean, you win it. And you know, a lot of teams are just looking at it and going we just gotta beat the defending champions next year. So you got that Exxon? Your chest. You know, everybody shooting for you. So you have to show up in a different way, but chemistry is so important in so many changes on this Philadelphia team. That's what I'm talking about. They haven't found themselves. I don't know who they are. And I think there because they're so different that chemistry is different in. They're still trying to find it. Well here come the Washington Redskins. They begin the season five and two. They spend a boatload money for quarterback Alex Smith who began the season like the team. Well, but now he's gone. The team is washed three or four Smith is gone for the seat. Season. And who knows how long a horrific injury. Now, they've got Colt McCoy and there in the playoff race right now. Well in talking to people in Washington, they're just saying that Colt McCoy needs to be more like Alex Smith. I mean, they were built to win with running the football Adrian Peterson's awesome form this year played good defense and don't make mistakes at quarterback. That's exactly who Alex Smith was. And that's how they were winning early in the year. And then we saw thanksgiving Colt McCoy comes out three turnovers. This team can't win having three turnovers. They are not built to be explosive at score a lot of points. So those have to be that has to be the formula for them to win so Colt has to be conservative. Make the plays are there to be made. But not try to do too much imagine Ross Tucker's on our sideline tonight. We're lucky enough to have him his third game in three days. We'll talk about that later on the broadcast. But Ross courteous, just talked about.

"I mean, I thought pensively I was very impressed with their offense on Zeke got his touches Dak threw the ball. Not great threw the ball Amari Cooper is showing while they gave the first round pick to get him. But I was I wasn't overly impressed. And I wasn't overly impressed with the defense. Because I thought Washington move the ball better than I thought they would given down to offense of lamb and given Colt McCoy, and really they don't have anything outside the numbers bars ride receiver that you like, okay. Yeah. The but the two tight ends basically everything Colt McCoy through the two titans. Josh re burn Davis who can still fly made plays. But offense skip I think you have to be pleased with what you saw. Zeke random ball with conviction. And when he runs the ball like that it sits up everything else that I thought he held the ball a little bit too long in the first half. And they didn't really break the game open. He and coop broke the game open in the third quarter. But I thought Washington would write in the ball game in the first half and had an opportunity maybe take the lead. And they got back. They did take the lead. And it seemed like once they missed that. The like the momentum just went out of Washington in Dallas goes right back down to peel for touchdown stop him. And he goes get another touchdown. But I mean, I got from Washington what I thought I thought Colt McCoy, there's a reason why he's been a career backup contrary to what you try to lead people to believe that Colt McCoy even laugh team to beat why on a cowboy none enough Colt McCoy, and this wasn't a rodeo rodeo. Gimme gimme a guy named tough heat deals on ballgame. Guy named Tom. I drew I thought he almost turned this into a rodeo, but go ahead. Yeah. He did. He look bad clownish out. Get throwing that ball. No. He turned that defense into clown. Did you see that ball flutter? And I thought they missed a call on the interception. He held a woozy a hailed again. Did he did he not? He did. Okay. But they didn't call. It didn't matter. But I think the Cowboys had to be pleased. Anytime you get a, you know, you don't play again until next Thursday. You win the way they want especially offensively. And that's what you want. The offense is starting to get to round in shape. Z looking good. He's starting to eat a little bit more. But Washington got after early. They didn't have actually eating a little less. Where he meeting all the early at all it was because he went to seven six sixteen the next day, you know, they're near. I can't so slightly impressive. But. Remain cautious. I thought that was a very objective view what happened yesterday. So I'm here to tell you that contrary to what Jamie thinks I'm going to say about Christmas morning that after I slept on what I watched yesterday and last night is that went into the evening. I wasn't that impressed with it. I thought yesterday was oddly a microcosm of the whole cowboy season there were ups, and they're all whole bunch of damn and there were some highs, and there were a whole bunch of lows, and there was a roller and there was a coaster, and we're just going like this when the game's over I'm worn out again because I'm waiting for this. I keep telling you poise for takeoff that team did not exactly take off yesterday that team did not hit on all cylinders yesterday to all the points that you just made that team was actually pretty lucky yesterday in many ways shapes and forms throughout the game. A lot of balls and calls went their way. Right. Right. And in the end, I keep saying they still haven't paid yet. That's a good thing that they haven't peak yet. But big picture all I know for sure is they have now won three straight games in the first two. I didn't think they could win at Philadelphia and added Lanta. I definitely thought they would win that game yesterday. They should have won it easily. They should have won it going away because they were had thirty one to thirteen and it came down to all inside kick that they had to recover to stop the bleeding my right about that. That's not a good thing..

"But let me be unapologetic in the fact that I hope they don't I I'm certainly not gonna pick them to do it until I absolutely have to. I recognize the fact that they've come to this since that they started giving Zeki Elliott the ball. Congratulations. You've figured out something everybody knew two years ago. Give Zeki Elliott the bowl. And rod the way Jason Garrett. Scotland hand it took up a bit law to get to the same party. We all ready add, but they seem to have arrived. And as a result of that. They should be the favorites. It's undeniable, but these are the Cowboys what can go home usually does go wrong, and I'm banking that something like that. How could they lose the Colt McCoy a Redskins? We would like to stay no a couple of years ago so do name Colt McCoy, I think it's the same do McCoy. I mean, unless there's somebody else named Koi was wearing a Redskins you to form strolled, Dallas and beat them. What was that on Thanksgiving Day? So I'm not ruling out the possibility that we could see that level of misery. According to the Dallas cowboy fans yet again. And if that happens, you can say it was Christmas for me as well. Because that would make me very happy Vegas would not be surprised at all. We mentioned earlier there is no different than the point spread from Alex Smith Colt McCoy, Steve a very happy thanksgiving. You and your family. Thank you so much. We will have Stephen we'll be back with I take in eight minutes. In the meantime with a four game win streak on the line that bears might be without their starting quarterback. How far cutting dominating defense take them today and beyond we'll talk about it. Plus, what did we learn yesterday? We learned the Duke is not unbeatable Jay Bilas. We'll tell us what these fabulous freshman. Learn about themselves. That's next. This is ghetto on ESPN..

"Radio for the day is MAURICE Williams zodiacs with one of the shortest songs to ever be number one these shortest shorter than the letter by the box a minute. What I think it's a minute. Thirty two is covered by everybody, including famously Jackson Braxton Brown, right? Everybody covers stay it's just because it is that good men, you're outta here. It a minute forty all those play the whole song, actually, right? By the way, the song was written by MAURICE Williams and nineteen fifty three when he was fifteen years old trying to convince his day to not go home at ten o'clock as she was supposed to wake up little Susie. That's baby. Lost the argument, and then ten minutes later this at stake for the rest of his guests. Joins us now. Jeff when I should say hit number one on this date in nineteen sixty. Oh, that's fifty eight years. I was already outta high speed Jeff Ma was three and two last week. He reversed his losing ways. He went and one he's twenty seven twenty three and four. So if you bet all the time with Jeff Ma you're not rolling in it like you with Chuck Todd, but you're winning money. I don't know if there's a digital pressure in that his bet the process podcasts colleague Rufus Peabody is here as well. And wants to pick games. Roof is said in the break. I wanna pick games. I thought to myself how great is this. They could perhaps disagree on something that would make me very happy or knuckle brawl. What do you have for us this week? We very seldomly degree. We're like a married. Couple has decided that they're not agree about anything because they disagreed so many times in their live, right? You're You're the one. the one that decision. What are you got Jeff? I have adopted him flatly degree on. It's your hometown your hometown team. I won't say the name of the map Docker that very very controversial. But I liked Washington. What seven against ballot? And this really comes down to how good or bad, you think that Colt McCoy is versus myth. And I think it's not that big of a downgrading. I think that this is the big over reaction. And I don't think Dallas is not good. And so I think watching it even with interest, plus Stephanie style value roof is are you with them on that one? I disagree. I mean, I'm not on the Cowboys either. But I think it's an overreaction to Alex Smith in his performance this year. I mean, he's been there's been cluster injuries at the offense of line there wide receiver core decimated Chris Thompson and Colt McCoy he seven and sixteen is a starter in his career, Alex Smith ninety four and sixty six. I do. I hope I'm wrong too. I hope McCoy's better than Alex Smith. Of course. I do I'm a Redskins fan. But I don't think the numbers back it up. So you would take Dallas he would lay off I was forced to choose number seven and a half the Redskins. They cannot continue to get this lucky and turnovers there plus plus twelve in turnover margin. Wow. Very big. It's very very big, Jeff. What else do you have by the way, Alex? I'm going to take Cincinnati minus three over Cleveland. This is one thing like roof is just reported our podcast. I know he let me on this generally Cleveland is the narrative around them is that they are on the up enough. They're gonna they're gonna hire Condoleeza Rice as our next knows? They're gonna fix everything. So with that would expect that they could certainly beat Cincinnati team that highly you know, injured in turmoil. They bought Hugh Jackson while blah, blah. But I I mean, I think Saudi minus three value. I think much better clean, the notion that they would interview Condoleeza Rice to be the coach Cleveland. He's awesome story though. It's it's a great story. It's so crazy this crazy..

"The Washington NAT signed Thirty-five-year-old catcher, Kurt Suzuki. You spent the past two years with Atlanta where he hit two seventy five with thirty one home runs. One hundred RBI is in six hundred twenty three at bats over those two seasons in the NFL. The Redskins have Washington didn't sign. Redskins' Alex Smith suffers gruesome, season-ending leg injury
"Larry, Michael and Chris Cooley the team nine hundred Washington Redskins radio network. It was a very serious injury. Thirty three years to the day. The Joe thighs men suffered that gruesome injury to his leg. Alex Smith with a fractured fibula and tibia. He was carted off. He was operated on immediately. His season is over Cole McCoy came on in relief through touchdown pass. Kept it close Washington actually got to a point where they tried a field goal to potentially win the ballgame from sixty three yards out. It's time expired it fell short and Houston hung on for the twenty three to twenty one win. Jay Gruden on the injury that everybody turn their faces away from obviously Alex Smith. He broke his tibia and fibia and fracture. You don't need surgery right away. What did you see? If Alex is injury. Have you spoken to him at the time or since have seen anything the Andhra? I'd knows very painful form, and you know, heartbreaking for a lot of people. He's a great guy a hard worker. I wanna key leaders on his football team. So these things happen in pro football. Unfortunately, just hate to see them happen to a guy like, Alex. But the guy is kill bounce back. Hopefully, he does for right now. The Redskins trying to ride out the remainder of this season are gonna turn to Colt McCoy and Adrian Peterson. Yeah. Two touchdowns today. But Washington at six and four their lead shrink to a single game in the NFC east other side, Houston, seven and three flying high in the AFC, south JJ watt on this win streak. Yeah. I think that's the best thing about this team. Is that we always believe we believe in each other. We believe in find a way, we don't know how we don't know where we don't know why. But we believe that we're going to find a way to win the game. And we've been on that seven times in a row. So we're going to keep that going and just keep working. Hard to try and find ways Houston is the first team to win seven hundred zero after starting
In the week-to-week NFL, it's all about survival
"From Minnesota. There was a chance that. Vikings might get the football back down eight but a stupid personal foul penalty on Harrison Smith only would have been second down. But I mean, he's he took a shot at Trubisky late. So you'll get a chance to see the bears on Thursday thanksgiving but Arne getting back to that. Cowboys win today over the falcons and now especially with the Redskins are a quarterback without. Oh my goodness. What a horrible horrible injury. That is. I mean the divisions there for the Cowboys for the taking. Yeah. Don't look now. But Dallas when we're talking about the NFC east is a game behind Washington there at five and five Washington is at six four listen, we'll we'll get to the eagles in the falcons. I know the falcons are in the east, but we'll get them coming up in just a bit. Hey loan. Behold. Arnie maybe the team that looked the best today in the NFC east. Your New York Giants any Eli manning three and seven only three games out of first place right now, but got saquon the boss oil, and that looked a little better about to welcome back them to the division. Title race. Don't take away from it. I will take it away from you yet. I'll let you I'll let you have it for a little bit. I mean, I still believe the raiders can finish eight now. So. Give me give me another week at least with the giants. So foreign six three and seven for the third and fourth place teams. But here's Dallas. Now just a game out in the fife and five and they get Washington on Thursday on a short week with the new quarterback. Washington's gotta go out and find a backup quarterback as well to beyond Colt McCoy. So I dunno Arnie. I almost feel like that. This is a team that for many weeks. We've tried to bury we've listened to the frustration from Bobo our technical director is a diehard Cowboys fan. So he's been frustrated. But now all the sudden with the Lincoln Riley rumors and the Jason Garrett gone the trade from white Cooper's working out now. And they're giving the ball to Ezekiel Elliott. And here we are spending. Most of our first seven minutes talking about Dallas and a resurgence. I got him. I'm as much as you say you call this. And I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm shocked by this over the last couple of weeks that we started with that is because if we started with this takeover. For the show, but I'm going to say it. Anyway, someone's looking for a quarterback what better place for a quarterback in the nation's capital? Then Colin Kaepernick, I mean, what a what a fit that would be all going the Washington playing in Washington. Can you imagine? I mean, a name need one pretty bad. All right. I got a double check who had tweeted that in. I someone was looking at the under over under eight minutes into the show. You would. How about that? I think that was I think that was the over under. I'll have to double check. Oh, yeah. Mike how many minutes into the show this Arnie talk about capper Nick going to Washington? Even though the last time he played Arne was dating supermodels beating Kerr one on one with a nice flowing ponytail. I say two minutes. So actually we hit the over there. I'm sorry. How could you not know? How is that? Not a perfect fit for everybody around for a team that needs an emergency quarterback. But see that could work against them. If they need emergency quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, I dunno. It may take him a while to to get up to speed. So they may have to go with somebody who's you know, a little bit more ready to play. And it's so crazy because you hear these same names rotated over and over Mark Sanchez already was the name that was brought up today. Someone that they might bring in for a workout. How about wait? What's Nathan Peterman? All right. Brought him to Indianapolis or someplace like I don't remember what they brought him into. Oh, man. So tough news today for the Redskins. Not only did they lose the game. But they lost their quarterback in a gruesome injury and shades of the Joe thighs men injury whenever we were kids. It was just good task. We'll get to that coming up in just a bit. But let's stick real quick with this cowboy falcons game from another perspective. What are the hell has happened to Atlanta? I mean, I understand injuries play a major part, right? I get it. You have what's he's had a couple of changes in the coaching staff not a lot. But this is just I mean, this was an offense that was deemed next level. It was it was cruising. And now. Thank you. Thank you. I didn't have to say it Bobo had it. But it was it was really bad really bad army. I don't know where it's going. I mean, look it's one thing to take a little bit of a dip. But what they're going through. It's just you know, it's head scratching their even with injuries. They still have a pretty good offense out there. They shouldn't be having a four six record. This is ridiculous. You shouldn't be losing to the Cowboys at home. You're much better team. Where's that offense? What's going on with Matt Ryan? I know you don't wanna point, you know, all the blame at your quarterback. But under three hundred yards. You know, you've got Julio Jones there, you still got him to go ahead and throw the ball to you got some new you've got weapons around you. What's going on out there? I got to start pointing the finger would Matt Ryan. And I thought a couple of weeks ago in part of this might have been because I opened my big dumb mouth Atlanta to go to the Super Bowl. I thought they'd won three straight. Why? Didn't think they had they had they had won three straight games after a really ugly loss to Pittsburgh. They beat the buccaneers. They slid by the giants and then they put a pretty good weapon on the Washington Redskins. But then they go to Cleveland, and they get beat last week. They lose the Cowboys today and Arnie their next three games are at New Orleans home for the suddenly I'll know I don't wanna get carried away on the Mark Jackson. We'll talk about that later. Suddenly resurgent ravens. And then they go to Green Bay those are three even on Green Bay's not playing its best football right now. But already they could be four and nine for sure gonna be foreign seven when they play the saints next week with the way that things, but what the hell is going on in Atlanta right now, it's a tough question to try to answer. And I wanna to say something also go up surprised that you did start with the Cowboys in Atlanta considering the biggest win today put somebody into the Super Bowl. And I thought that's where you were going to start you you really bury delete. I hate the skull. You on the air back and say you buried the lead because the Pittsburgh Steelers with their win today. Just put them in the Super Bowl. Meaning they'll beat the patriots at home, which means they'll get the number one seed, which means this year Velgo to the Super Bowl buried elite. Well, you know, it is kind of shaping up a little bit for maybe a Pittsburgh New Orleans slash Lossiemouth battle in the Super Bowl. I think we'll learn a lot tomorrow night. This is crazy because here we are Sunday night and a majority of the time the Monday night football game. Here's a conversation. We have as we're heading out the door in our final segment. Sunday, Monday night, football's usually, hey, don't forget tomorrow night. We'll see next week. But now with the Rams and the chiefs. I mean, I I don't know Arnie I- Kansas City quite a bit. But you're right. I mean, I know knock on Kansas City because I know as soon as I say anything about Kansas City. They start dogging on the raiders. Yes. The raiders stink. You're really good this year. How does that make you feel better? But you you can't help. And I know it's all difference because it Mahomes, did, you know, Patrick Mahomes likes catch up to not hear that at all on social media. Yes. I'm actually with you on this one. I now Arne because I love what Kansas City is doing. I'm enjoying watching them play. But you know, what they have sold a short in the playoffs before they have disappointed when we thought they were the team to beat. We have heard. Hey, things are different this year. You just wait till we get to the playoffs. Guess who's consistently been there and consistently got done the Rodney burger?
