"Started just fourteen Jones started thirty six games over three years. Carla. Murray went number one simply because the cardinals made the asinine decision to hire a failed college coach who couldn't win in the big twelve with Patrick Mahomes, the office that was good enough to get cliff Kingsbury fired at Texas Tech is now supposed to be the office that takes on the NFC west. This makes no sense. I'm not gonna pretend that I watched a lot of Duke football. I don't know much about Daniel Jones, but I'm never seen this kind of consensus among draft Knicks about a single player. Todd. Mcshay swears Jones is a mobile Brock Osweiler. And I've yet to see anyone viciously attacked mcshea for the opinion Gettleman won't even do it. Remember when former coach general manager Bill Tobin lit into male caper after Khyber blasted the culture passing on he's Schuler and Trent Dilfer who the hell is Mel kiper Tobin said Gettleman won't defend his selection of Jones. Why should I did you know that twenty seven different quarterback? Have started for the Redskins since they won the Super Bowl twenty seven years ago. So motley Crue that includes Danny war, full, John Belk. Greg Grossman Gus for rot and John freeze. History says Haskins won't be the answer. And watching it. He thinks the league done messed up when it's actually the Redskins. But what do I know? I everything I joined the desk now, Fox Sports analyst Reddy Bush, and Mark slayer gathered most are with you Reggie crazy to think that all three of these guys will be bust. It is crazy thing that, but it's not far off because I feel like when you look at the three quarterbacks situations that they gone into. I feel like Collor Murray right now is maybe set up for failure quicker than the other two quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Haskins because he has to play right now. Right. And because he's going to a team that they don't have a ton of weapons they gotta head coach first time rookie head coach who you just alluded to who struggled at the college level. So there's a lot of figuring it out as going to go on. And I just don't know as a rookie quarterback. You wanna be trying to figure it out which coaching staff? I go back to my time in Miami. When we drafted Ryan tannehill. And I thought maybe the worst thing that they did was make they put him into the starting rule too quick. Because at the cars level he can have a ton of experience like column Rury like Dwayne Haskins, and they put him into the starting role too fast and his confidence start. They started chip away at his confidence because he didn't play as great as probably he wanted to write. And so I feel like as a rookie quarterback confidence everything and and right now when I look at column Murray, I just he set up right now to fail because he doesn't have a ton of weapons around him. It doesn't surprise me. At all. I mean you come into this league as a rookie quarterback. I love you have to understand how the league is setup. And you how college football see when I came in the league, it was set up as a trickle down like like Reagan Reaganomics, trickle down the NFL affected college, which is effected school. It's trickle up now. Schools affected college, which is starting to permeate the National Football League. But they're still a large difference between college football in the spread off and says that you're asked to participate in and what they're doing in the National Football League level. Here's the other thing you mentioned it. And I think it's a great point experience as JC Penney. One said is the best teacher of all right experience is you'll have a lot of experience. And oftentimes what happens to you in the college game. Is you have a lot of success not because of study habits not because of you really understand football. It's because you're such a gifted athlete, and then you get in the NFL and you start to realize shoot, everybody's right? Every everybody's really good. And I think for for these guys the game is about the neck up in the pro football, improve football, your your default mechanism better. Be from your neck up in college football, your default mechanism can be athlete. It can be your athleticism. I think that's an issue..

"Not the prey, and quote, I love the swagger. Number two own like last year. It appears that we could be waiting awhile to see the second quarterback taken into draft while many expect Qatar Murray to go as high as I overall Dwayne Haskins Daniel Jones, and drew lock all could be first rounders, but also could be around for a while has to seem to go anywhere between eleven and fifteen lock is to go anywhere between ten and thirty two and Jones seem to go anywhere between seventeen and even falling out of the first round, drew lock thing. And look I'm not gonna sit here. And pretend if I was as good at evaluating NFL talent as most people like to pretend that they are I would be sitting in NFL front office. So I will talk to you. Truthfully. I want to see drew LA called as high as possible for my own sort of along affection reasons, but I'm really hoping the dude is not the next plane Gabbard is not it's not as sexy draft. There aren't a ton of storylines. And I said this earlier, it's not sexy. But we're we don't do that. Here. I'm not sexy that makes it easy. We're we're gonna we're gonna be true with you. We're gonna be straight most of the evaluations that are going to be made on the right and wrong decisions of what goes on Thursday and beyond Thursday Friday, Saturday over the weekend. Are going to happen in the years ahead guys like Collor Murray, guys like Nick Bosa there will be judgment, and there will be indicators there'll be judgments early on. But this is a process that takes a really long time to get your to really get your arms around number three one position to keep an eye on this year's draft is the wide receiver position Oklahoma's Markey's Brown. Arizona state's Nikiel Harry.

"How big of a chance is this considering this is the same Arizona on franchise that just draft. Josh Rosen last year. Well, I think it's very higher clip. Kingsbury Steven you're gonna give him the right then it and as a call in this quarterback situation. And that's where it's a perfect storm. It's Kingsbury in Tyler Murray together. And that's what makes him the number one pick. I said if if he's When Collor Murray Mondays month couple of months ago where we being the traffic and all his October. We didn't know like being Oakland. So once kings Berg comes to coach and collar Murray's part of this draft process. It was a perfect situation for them. Now had kinda Murray not bitterness strength as I said, it wouldn't have been him had at the Kingsbury in the coach. I don't think it would be Murray merged with be maybe down thirteen the Miami for all we know at Kingsbury not been the coach. So this is all about that. Now, you mentioned the five then we've never had that historically Stephen forget the number one pick in the first or second round of the draft. You gotta go to Russell Wilson at five ten and a half I've been in three quarters seven years ago with the seventy fifth back now. And I always say call the first call Tyler Murray should have made months ago. Was Russell Wilson and say, thank you. But I'm in the discussion to be a number one thicker, I ran or it's because you and I think that's the key. Russell Wilson was the test case he passed that test. I mild and now Kyle Murray's number one pick. Because of Russell Wilson. Let's transition into Wayne Haskins quarterback out of Ohio State fifty touchdowns last year. Obviously, he was getting rave reviews. A lot of people consider the number two quarterback in number one in some people's eyes a few months ago, certainly not the case..

"It's not about being able to stand. Six foot five of the pocket over top of ones because you just can't it doesn't work that way. It's about being smart efficient with your feet and with your eyes on the elephants. Having a good scheme in distributed in the football affectively. And sometimes those guys can do it when they're five eleven tall. And there's there's been a smaller track record of people doing it. Not a long track record of people doing it. Not it's ever get one. But it has been done and with guys like Russell guys like Baker guys. Like drew Brees guys like Collor Murray here in the future. It. They're showing you can be done. But scouting drafting is an exercise in limiting risk in covering your you-know-what and people want to have all of the bosses set that phrase that you hear all the time at this time either they won't have all the boxes check in the event that when things don't work out. They can say it wasn't because I check all the boxes. And that's what this whole thing is about at this time of year. And that's what scares people about Russell in the past. It scares people about collar Murray going forward either way he probably will be the first pick in the draft next week in Louis. We will see you there in Nashville if not sooner thanks very much for jumping in here with us. We'll see you soon Louis rating. We'll get the Todd mcshay coming up in just a few minutes. In the meantime, let me get you back to the stunner last night and oracle Kevin Durant and the warriors taking on the clippers and the words of the law in the and the third quarter lead of as many as thirty one, but we'll get Patrick Beverley irritant doing what he does. Well, getting Kevin Durant to commit an offensive foul that would turn out to be quite significant. Quarter clippers that cutting back with the down only fourteen trying to make their comeback. It's Beverly and he's turning defense into offense to Noah Gallinari. Now, we got ourselves a ballgame. It's a six point game. When Lou Williams takes it in again, clippers down as many as thirty one they cut to three after the free throw now still on the forty this critical. He plays hundred dollar, and that's a factor there and Kevin Durant is setting screening. Kevin Durant has juice fouled out of the game with a minute twenty to go. Kevin Durant fouls out. We've watched it a hundred times this morning and everyone agrees. It is the right call Kevin Durant. Arguing to no avail Patrick Beverley loves it from the bench ensuing clipper possession Williams, again down a deuce no longer. Now. We're tied next warrior possession. Final minute where you're gonna go. Of course, you're going to go to Steph curry find a way to get him shot. He's gonna knock it down. But three for Steph. And so the warriors are up by three the needed three too tight if you're the clippers. No, you don't be patient. Find a way to get a bucket. That's the Williams. He got a one point game toward thirty six clippers ball twenty seconds ago through one who's going to get the big shot way. Angering Schimdt knocks at that. Look at bomber. He is fired up and the Clintons taking wars would have one. Final chance. They're going to drop a play again down a deuce Steph. Curry gets a decent look. Probably could've join a foul. There doesn't do it. And can't get the shot to go. And in the end, it is the clippers who steal and I do mean steel being too coming from thirty one down to win it one thirty five one thirty one bring it out to the table here. Again, we've got Jalen we got RJ we got sack low here we talked about it earlier. We didn't show you in that highlight. And was that was the comeback which was part of the story. But again, that's not the bad news for the warriors. The bad news was something that happened in the first quarter of that game. Boogie cousins playing defense goes down non contact injuries. Steve Kerr says afterwards that is presumed that he'll be out for some time. We'll have further information on that today. I've heard some suggests that the boogie cousins injury and intrigued to the Western Conference playoffs that was not previously there. RJ your thoughts..

"Leader, what type of work ethic, he has to go along with all those physical skills, and you sit down and you'd see if the kid is a humble kid, and where he came from and his upbringing and things like that what he's passionate about. That's when you go and you do your research. And when you study all those things you look, and you say, you know, what this kid is this kid is worthy of being drafted number one. Because he has so many special tools not physical tools because we know he has that. But the other things that come into play the leadership the hard work that the guy that will take the blame as opposed to point fingers all those things add up to me as column Murray. And that's what I've been hearing. I've got a chance to talk some to some people, and they just say, hey, man, this kid is really special who knows if he's going to succeed. But if I if I'm a betting man, I'm going to bet on a man because he has everything and he's done everything the right way. Rodney if Baker Mayfield doesn't go number one last year in play as well as you did in Cleveland is Mary still the number one pick same offense. You know, the same height issue. Also is no to appoint benefiting because he's following Baker Mayfield and people love Mayfield. Absolutely. And he had a chance to play behind him and learn from them, and you can see a lot of similarities in their game. But you see the maturity and you see the competitiveness, and that's what they're missing they need somebody that will take over airs ONA needs. Some hope they don't have hope with Josh Rosen. They finally have hope, and when you have hope guess who wants to come home and play Terrell sucks, then you can start drawing free agents. And yeah, he's older. And he's he's at the back end of his. But that's my point. When you get a guy like Collor Murray, you're gonna get free agents. Like, oh my God. I would love to go to Arizona and play it'd be fun to play with him and David Johnson. And they're building something special out there. And that's what you need. No one said, hey, I'm going to Arizona to play with Josh Rosen. Now, I'm not sitting there talking bad about Josh. But all I'm saying is there is a market form. Let's look at the market. What about the patriots? What about the giants? Maybe the Los Angeles chargers. They need a young quarterback to come in. And sit behind Philip rivers Tom Brady or Manny for another another year or two before they eventually retired and walkaway. Here's going to be the nightmare scenario for the cardinals. Okay. State. Carla Murray turns out to be a good NFL quarterback. Really good quarterback. Josh Rosen goes to one of the three teams. We just mentioned and those are the reported teams that are really interested. And he turns out to be a really good quarterback as well. The problem. That would be is the cardinals had their franchise quarterback could use that number one pick at another position of need considering they have to fill a lot of positions of need. Right. That's a team that is really liability. Alan, right. Go ahead. I'm sorry to spend two straight top ten picks. When you have so many needs on the same exact position that could be a problem. Once again, they felt like they didn't get it. Right. They felt like they had something a little bit more special. It's no different. If you go to a dealership, and you pick out that car, and it's thirty thousand dollars, but you go to another dealership, and they say, hey, man, we can get you the same basically the same card. Only difference is the interior is a little difference. A little lighter interior, but I can save you five grand. You say, okay. I can sacrifice an extra five grand and keep that five grand in my pocket. Just be you know, and just only thing is different on the car's interior. That's kinda basis of what they're doing. And said, look man, we're not gonna sit here, and we're not going to sit here and pass up on an opportunity to get a young talented kid that just won the Heisman our fan base bases excited looking Larry FitzGerald, Larry FitzGerald is even excited. That's why he's coming back for another year. So we'll see what hap-. Eventually. But if I'm the Arizona Cardinals the heck with a defensive lineman. The heck with a often a cornerback or star linebacker or defensive in. If I don't have the quarterback that I truly trust me a fun time the next three weeks or so four weeks leading up to the NFL draft. Speaking of the quarterback position a report came out of Miami this week. About the quarterback position the dolphins..

"Remind blow. NFL chatter. Big in order for you guys interrupt the show. I think it's quarterback related. It's always big, right? That's the most important position. No, no, no, Ian Rapoport with a report here. Sources say the Redskins and Broncos are working on a trade for case keenum to land in Washington. You too big cat for that. Talk. Listen. Full both talk. It's fine. You guys are arguing over Otto porter like it matters. Exactly, exactly. Thank you for snapping some reality into this whole. Situation. Shooting move, though, case keenum to Washington possibly sounds like. Yeah. Without her isn't gonna play from what? Yeah. Maybe the interesting part about that is where is Josh Rosen gonna go. Yeah. When Collor Murray goes number one because I feel like Washington was very good spot for Josh Rosen. That's an interesting question. Who would be calling the cars Josh Rosen. The giants. The giants are going to draft a kid out of Ohio State. I know I know Mel kiper junior. Todd dolphins. Treats dolphins. I don't know who between houses will be there for the giants. 'cause like I said, I mean, you saw Mitch Trubisky. He went the bears detritus from three to to to get them. I mean number one is the cardinals. Let's say the cardinals are gonna take Murray then forty Niners in our draft their quarterback, then the jets are drafting a quarterback at four is the raiders, maybe Jon Gruden decides he doesn't want, but I know. Saying just like last year where the jets may be trade down. Ryan the jets. Sal that to someone who wants to get Haskins as the second quarterback? Yes. Exactly. So I mean, I I love this time of year for the NFL because it's like all these and in the league starts what is it tomorrow? No, it's Wednesday. The official I like the legal the legal negotiating period is early next week. But it goes official on March thirteenth. And I don't know where what the bears are going to do except for. I just don't understand how they can sign a guy named blew it. Like that. Right. That's right. Ryan pace is trolling us. He really is. I I love Ryan pace. He's done a fantastic job. He's made the bears from nothing to something very quickly. But he told us last year, and he's trolling this again this year someone made a can't you can't find that guy. Like, you could be the greatest kicker of all time. And I still would not like emotionally be ready to have a kicker named Blu in Chicago. Someone tweeted me and said that's like having a doctor whose last name is death. Listen based on what has gone on. Does. I said this yesterday doesn't Ryan pace try to convince the young man to change his name. We'll give you a few extra thousand dollars to made it and they d. IT? AT whatever it is made it your name is now it's not blew it. Your last name is made it right, right? Or is an extra forty grant. Or maybe add a z at the end of blew it. And like, you know, we can do the polish thing or like or something like that. Louis. Yeah. Fluid that works, right? Chicago polish guy. That's great. That's good stuff. I think we'll talk next Thursday, we covering everything. Right. Anything to get off. Your just we got everything. I I always appreciate you guys. And I agree we need to hopefully, Jim Boylan. Like, he I don't know. What's going on? Jim Boylan emotional fried. Man. You got great school. Great song. You got the spirit mcilveen scored thirteen points at third quarter. What do you think he just got a great spirit? What what are we talking about? It's crazy. I'm sorta like him. This is bad. You're falling in love with your C red. Fred. The red. Fred, I I can understand where you're not saying, you're smart. Where are you coming from somehow? I love that. I'm not saying, you're smart. Good stuff. Great spirit. Great spirit. Hey, big cat today. You had a great spirit great spirit and he works hard. He's a line inside that locker room, and when it comes down to all of it. He's just grinding like the rest of us. And that's what we hope to do. We just hope to continue to crime and let a good times roll. Yeah. I mean, the interview part of it's still stills really strange, but there are much better team offensive. "So it makes a lot of sense. Maybe a t my Jacksonville like we talked about earlier in Jacksonville. They want to go the cheaper route. Maybe they think hire Murray can take them to the Super Bowl next year. Maybe they pull the trigger. Maybe the New York Giants thing Dwayne Haskins is the successor to you. I manning. So they get them now instead of waiting until next year or something like that. There's a lot of stuff that will happen. I think the first and foremost though, knowing what happens with Nick foles, that's the first Domino's gonna fall, right? Like if Nick foles goes to one of these quarterback needy teams, then it kinda changes the complexion of what the first out might look like, absolutely guess, you're right. And with that like, I've even seen like Collor Murray drop to number eleven to the the Bengals which is still a very real possibility. And I get that. And all, but honestly like this draft is gonna come down to the those like you said the traits. They could when people drop down. "Lot of very good defensive players at the top of the strap and it's going to be a deep draft when it comes to I believe offense of linemen and defensive lineman. So I think any one of those teams that has to kinda rebuild their team and needs to acquire more picks. One of those teams in the top three would probably trade with somebody who will be almost say, desperate. But who will really fall in love with this kid during during his workout this Cuyler Murray thing is going to be really really fascinating because I'm sure he's going to impress during the combine he's going to impress everywhere. He goes, but in a guys legitimate five nine I mean, this is not in people can't say well smaller quarterbacks have had success in the NFL. Look at drew Brees. And look at Russell Wilson. Oh, this guy is totally remember what Wilson was drafted. He was undrafted till third round. Drew Brees was the first round. But he slipped a little bit due in large part to a size. But I think most people feel like with the way that the NFL is being played at least during the regular season that a kid like Collor Murray. Can overcome his lack of height, and the reason that they're able to overcome it is because they know no different. Sure, they have played their whole life this way. You know, they they understand the nuances to in order for them to be successful the fine guys down the field. It would be. It's a little bit of a of a learning curve. I think he's a good enough athletes. Got a great enough form to be able to be successful. I just don't know that I would want to get a guy like that for the northeast. Just don't you're playing outside. I don't know if I want a guy like that just I feel like he needs to be in a dome somewhere somewhere where the elements are not going to really affect them just because of his dominion of size. Chris and Kingston is next up on the fan. What's happening, Chris? Hey, good. Pickle.

"I mean, the patriots are like a political candidate like you're not voting for them your voting against the other one. It's like you're not really cheering for like a lot of people aren't necessarily cheering for the chiefs. They're cheering against the shorts. I'm fine with that. Yeah. Fine. I'm fine with that. Because it's been it's bad. Come in. That's a song. It's but the chiefs it's been a long time. This is the in my lifetime in my lifetime. This is the second AFC championship. They've played in really in my lifetime. Now, they have one they've been to two Super Bowls and they've won one. They lost Super Bowl one too. The Packers thirty five to ten and they won Super Bowl four against the Viking twenty four to seven and what year was that sixty nine say. Yeah. Before you were born. And so in my lifetime Joe Montana took them to the AFC championship game in ninety four. I think it was the season of ninety three. But the, you know, January ninety four and we lost to the bills who then went on to lose to the whatever Cowboys here. The fuck. They lost four in a row but the chiefs. Yeah, that was the only time I ever saw him do anything. And and then we've lost every playoff game except for one since then. And now we've won we want to playoff game since ninety four and every been to the playoffs almost every year. Like, we go we're very consistently a playoff team. We just don't win in the playoffs. We Torian buckle. And I think the Mahomes eras about change. How you kept saying? It's the year you're all in on the homes before the season started. And I'm like who is who? Are you talking about even know this kid, and now I can't get him out of my head Kermit, the frog voice? Everything three. Yeah. That's crate. He's he's the most. Like well-spoken athlete. I've ever heard in my life. He never hesitates on a question. I've never heard him say. Nothing. These I like she has. It means. He's a clear thinking individuals completely clear thinking you also grew up in sports with the sports family. So he's seen it. He's you know, he's been groomed for it as whole. Understands what it takes he understands what it takes to be a world class athlete. Yeah. But I really realized when they were doing a profile on him before the game against Indianapolis. Just how much of baseball comes into play with him in football. And why he's even more accurate is because he grew up playing both baseball and football. And he was extremely good at both. So his arm. Sounds like John Elway remember. Oh, yeah. Yeah. It sounds like Collor Murray today who layered for the draft, which is a great way to make the Oakland A's pay you twice as much money. But I man when they were doing the interview with him. He just he did another no look pass and just hit like a actual target like during the conversation. I was just incredible. He's a special player. He's special player. And and I hope he stays healthy for a long time. Because he is we're going to build around him in Kansas City. And it's going to be a lot of fun for many expected. I game to be a lot closer. I I was nervous. I I would have been very nervous because I thought it would be much closer. But. That's all go ahead. Now. I just say I couldn't believe how good your defense was. I was just gonna say hats off to the defense. Yeah. Because you know, they have not been there all season pretty much. They've been very porous. Yes. All season. And they were couldn't have been better lights out were played. They played. Well, I mean, I don't think that the colts had a first down in the first time. I had. Yeah. And the only score was from the defense because of the the pet thus right? It's powerful. They they showed up and played a tight game. I will say this though, and you can take this to the Bank. I think I've said this on the street before Andy Reid coming off a bye never loses announce that. Yeah. And this just proves it again when he comes off a Bach. He it's really hard to beat his team. True. Well, that's also I think what I think we saw with the patriots. Whereas like, I thought the chargers we're gonna keep that game much closer. And when Bella check has two weeks to prepare..

Some of the headline writers in our while world have taken liberties with this that you shouldn't take because whenever headline you have about cliff Kingsbury says he would take Murray with the number one overall Pac sounds like you said it rich. He did. But it should include said back when he was the head coach does this week. How he does in the article with everything in the headline, right but misleading headlines out there that was and I'm not saying that's not significant. It is. Yeah. But that you have to take it in the context that in which he came, and that's cliff Kingsbury saying that a couple of months ago, rich, let's let's dig into that from a different perspective. I mean, obviously, he's got I I over I'll pick now he can take him if he wants to wind schefters fueling the. Rumor mill. Let's take it. From this perspective of Kingsbury is a former quarterback who clearly can command a room and has all the intangibles needed. Right. I mean, he and he coached several guys from U of H to Texas Tech to to Texas Tech transfer. It went oh you Mayfield. He clearly has an I four guys that can command a room the intangible the it factor. He clearly has that which I think for most of us when we look at collar. We don't know him. We got to me, I go that's first and foremost, if he has that it factor that he can overcome the size if he doesn't then he's gonna struggle. If he has the effect we can overcome a bunch things to me what cliff Kingsbury said back then was this kid has yet factor. This kid can turn turn a locker room really really quickly the kids a winner. I would take him my first grant first overall pick. And we should also mention the Kingsbury had great things to say about the potential of Josh Rosen as well. I'm sure yeah. I would hope so he just took the Arizona job. Presumably one of the reasons he took it was because Josh Rosen was there. Yeah. I would think so. Although I I'm guessing cliff Kingsbury can't be too choosy about NFL jobs. He's getting offered right. Sean check this out. The we last time I was on with you last Thursday. We talked about the air raid berries transition to the NFL would work if it's going to work now. And I understand look I had a bunch of messages coming. I understand the cliff Kingsbury air raid is a little bit different everything evolves. Today's air-raid is different than Mike Leach's era Kentucky days and how mummies back at Kentucky it all evolves. And I understand that. But if if that that offensive cliff kingsbridge gonna stick with that offense, and that style of offense his best bet is a guy like Collor Murray. Baker mayfield. It's not a Josh Rosen. No Rosen's pocket passer. Very no doubt about Rosen's a pocket passer, which brings us to the next topic. Here it's something we kind of asked John Harris about yesterday rich, but not with Cuyler Murray. We asked him a hypothetical Johnny said yesterday. Trevor Lawrence would be the number one picking the draft. He came out this year, which I which I think is possible. We'll never know. But we brought up the possibility of Arizona drafting with if he were out there would you draft Trevor Lawrence and then move Josh Rosen who's got a year under his belt. It was a rough year. But I don't think a lot of that was his fault a defensive head coach yet an ac- get fired in the middle of the season firing left which Colin plays never called plays before. And wasn't a great team. All around not a great roster. There's a reason they're picking number one Schefter. Brought that possibility of obviously using the Kingsbury audio. We just played a sort of the impetus for this and Schefter. Brought up that possibility today on ESPN the cardinals taking a quarterback with the number one pick. And then using Josh Rosen is a sort of an EBay commodity. This is also know and also fresh, but the one thing about the NFL is that quarterbacks are currency, and I can tell you this that last year when the Cleveland Browns had the first.

"Had the first and fourth overall picks at one point time. I know people will be skeptical. Taking quarterbacks at one and four and then auctioning off one of the quarterbacks that they like less. So if you're the Arizona Cardinals, and you like Collor Murray that much you talk to number one. Right. But maybe there's just never get him. And then you auctioned off Josh Rosen. If that's what the new quarterback likes. That's what he wants. Why would you not act to that? When you can get a king's ransom for Josh Rosen. Some teams really like again, we're getting things started here really fully and really putting things out there. But it's not implausible that that's an interesting Adam Schefter throwing out the idea that the cardinals could indeed actually consider drafting Kyla Murray first overall. And then obviously would then say, okay, it's bidding time who is interested in Josh Rosen. And what are you gonna give us? Well, here's what I think that I think this is a two two part argument. I think that Colin Murray is a very impressive athlete and. Whenever you have an athlete that kid. Excel to sports, it's super interesting. Right. So to me, there's more money to be had in football than there is in based by strictly looking at it from that perspective, money based perspective. There's more money. Teed up front with football. Well, let's let you we have to dissect because it's a nuance conversation initially if Cuyler Murray is indeed a first round pick, which he will be there'll be more money for him. Upfront. However, if he could become a great baseball player down the road a second contract. There'd be in all likelihood more guaranteed money for him in baseball with a lot less of the health risks that come with football. Yeah. And I think this isn't a very the likelihood of him like the the likelihood of him hitting the, you know, the big payday would come and football more. So than baseball. This isn't a very strong quarterback draft. You've got Justin Herbert out of Oregon mcshea has him going seven th overall to the Jaguars. Then you've got Dwayne Haskins. He's going tenth overall to the. New York Giants. And then that's kind of it as far as first round quarterbacks go so you have to assume that one of these teams is going to want a quarterback, but I'll say this. I don't want to just interrupt briefly though. The interesting thing is when you look around the league, I know teams are always looking for their quarterbacks. But in this day and age with the spread offense is becoming so prevalence. Court quarterbacks are coming through the college ranks and being put into NFL positions to succeed more so than they ever have been and you do have to look around the league, there's not a whole lot of there's not as many quarterback openings in the past that you that you've had because you have maybe not necessarily a ton of teams who are necessarily like, okay. We've got our guy. But what they've done is. They've may be drafted the guy in the last few years. So they feel committed to kind of play it out. You know what I'm saying? Like, you have you have a team like buffalo who maybe they're not. Maybe maybe we're not sold on Buffalo's quarterback, but they've invested in Josh Allen. So they're there for the long term, the New York Jets have Sam darnold. They're invested for the long term. I mean you look around lake maybe the Miami Dolphins. Obviously they're looking for a quarterback let the ravens have Lamar Jackson the. I mean, I don't know what the Bengals are going to do. There may be a wildcard. But you've got the dolphins. The Bengals the Texans. Colts titans are all set with their guys at least for now. They're not drafting a guy the Jaguars. I think we would all agree are probably in the market for quarterback. What about the raiders the raiders are? Round picks. So there's four teams that we've mentioned the rest of the west is I the raiders would be a good fit because then Jon Gruden could get a guy Tyler Murray. Yeah. So so there's four teams. I just want to the giants obviously have a need the Washington Redskins. I guess probably because Alex Smith, we don't know exactly what his injury situation when he's not gonna play every get right? Well, I think we're still in the early stages, but I think next season at the very least is probably a leap of faith to think that Alex Smith will be available next year. So the Redskins will be in the markets have got the Redskins. The giants that gives you six. We know the bears. Here are set the Vikings are set with cousins whether they like it or not the Packers are set. The lions are set with Stafford the saints fell Panthers the bucks, I think are tied the Winston for one more year. The Rams obviously are good with God. But just because you're tied for a guy to one more year. That's why I bring up the raiders too. Because you've got a guy for one more year, you're going to need a guy hundred but the raiders are. Because the raiders with car, but we've seen that Gruden seems like he might be willing to move on. Yeah. The bucks I think are tied to Winston for at least one more year, which means in all likelihood they're not going to be drafting quarterback in the first round. Yeah. So so I think we're more so than ever before at least in the last decade, or so it seems like a lot of teams are at least happy with the quarterback that they have currently in place now not everybody. But I think we're getting to that point where there's a lot of teams that the market for quarterbacks isn't as it's not as much of a seller's market as it has been in the past. I guess is what I'm getting at. Yeah. And so I think that Calum Murray would benefit by going to the NFL draft. I think he's going to be a first round pick. We just named enough teams where one team will take him in the first round, and he'll get first round money, which is a lot of money up front. Ultimately, he's probably not going to be as healthy because you get hit all the time. But the rules are now favoring quarterbacks like he's not the these guys barely get touched unless he wants to. And yet he did run it a few times. But he threw forty two touchdowns this last year seven interceptions. So he's a he's an extremely effective guy. But one thing you also have to account for is he had the best offensive line in college football in front of him. He had. I wanna say hours to throw, but obviously didn't have hours, but he never taking big. He was never taking big hits unless he chose to. He rolled out a few times he saw against Alabama. He did have to roll out a lot. He was facing one of the better defensive lines. And arguably the best defensive lineman in the country in quitting Williams for the first half when he wasn't hurt. So I would say that you go to a team like the cardinals where Sam Bradford. And Josh Rosen were sacked fifty two times last year. Like it's gonna take some adjustment period for him to adjust to the NFL. Now, it's going to be a matter of whether or not he wants to do that. He thinks he's going to be a first round pick. I think you should go. He's not going to be number one overall. There's too much defensive talent. And we've seen that you're you're more likely going to have success when drafting high-calibre defensive town in those first few spots, then taking a quarterback who you think unless you have like, you know, you're getting generational talented quarterback, which is rare. You automatically are better off going. Defense which if you look at the mock drafts that are out pretty early. Now, it's all defense a coupla offensive lineman. But you have to go pretty far down until you find that in this draft so far. So I think he's better off going to the the NFL he might not be successful right away. Just because the team might not be up to par offensive line wise where he goes, but he's ultimately gonna find success. Look at look at look at the the young quarterbacks that are having success this year look at Baker Mayfield. I mean yet they didn't win a lot of games. But look they they still want their seven eight one. That's that's a huge leap for a huge leave. Exactly. And you look at him. And you can see look this guy is going to be good. He's got something that you set a record for passing. Touchdown. Exactly. So I think I'm not saying his game is comparable to him. But you can see like what that when you have a kid who's face with. I'm gonna make a little bit of money, and I'm going to have to be in the minors for a little bit. And I'm gonna have to ride the buses and that kind of thing or I'm going to be. First round pick. And I'm going to start or at least sit on the bench. But I'm going to be rolling in it. And I get to be an NFL team in an NFL style facility. The key is look Cuyler Murray was drafted in baseball. But clearly there was a want for him to continue playing football. That's why the Oakland Athletics negotiated the clause to allow him to play another season because he wanted to prove to himself that he could play at an elite level at a big time college football program, and he did. And I think we're seeing that the love for him in terms of sports may lean more towards football. That's what we're seeing with these these rumors coming out that he's looking the test where he might go in the NFL draft Mel kiper ways. And I just what Kyle MAURICE draft status could be away. The day is NFL is he's gonna go first round maybe mid for Miami, Washington. The giants are up there at six that's where Dwayne Haskins Ohio State may figure but hey with Kyle Murray. What is this going to be? We'll see but moving through the process, if there's no baseball involved either, you certainly in that mid first round the Scott. Russian, and maybe a little higher than that you called. What is this gonna be? We'll see measure you can find look mel's Benner all mel's Ben around the NFL draft, a long time probably longer than you, and I have been alive. So he's just saying like the actual measurable of Cuyler Murray is going to come into play. That's the interesting discussion should if if Tyler Murray measures out at five nine what is the the, you know, the the line of delineation in terms of heights where somebody's going to say, okay. It's acceptable to take Kyle Murray. I overall or just very in the first round that's going to be an interesting question because if he measures that five nine is are you all of a sudden going to say there's five nine what do you mean where where people getting five nine? It's I've got two places. I've got a five eleven and I've got a five ten well, here's thing because you know, how how. Are we measuring the hair too because that's like three inch? No, no, no, they they know. That's that's probably where the actual. You know, Texas Tech is putting out five eleven because they're going to the, you know, the top of the hair. Whereas when you when you get to the NFL scouting combine they've listening to your vision to your is like the doctor's office. They go. No, no, no, they go to your scalp. That's it. They actually a legitimate measurement. And so nobody ever gives the actual doctors. They they added insure too. So. What will? But that's the point is is it has Russell Wilson. Somebody like him who so allusive in the pocket, and who who who will move back on the field him move ten eleven yards back to create a field of vision for him to throw through, you know. And we know Kyle Murray has a strong throwing arm is it really going to be a deal breaker if he's five nine Todd mcshay gives us more I think he's a first round pick. I don't know that he's the first of all I think, you know, you look at the giants six the Jaguars seven you've got Denver sitting at ten possibly maybe they start to move up. But I think Dwayne Haskins right now would be the first quarterback off the board and then Tyler, but I do think he's a first round pick in a lot of people. Don't looking at him at five nine and change. I think the league is changing the game is changing. We're looking at smaller quarterbacks who can make quick decisions. Get the ball out fine with spread offenses find receivers open right away. And get it out. It's different than the old day. That's the point is that the league has embraced the spread offense. And with more coaches because more coaches like Sean McVay in every Sean McVay protege the embracing of the spread offense allows for smaller quarterbacks to make place. And I misspoke, Sean, corrected me. Just gave us are here tonight. Just a just to Herbert is going back to Oregon. He did announce I forgot about that. So Sean, so there is a nother. Absolutely. It's it's twain Haskins and maybe Cuyler Murray because to go because he's not he's going to have to enter the draft. I guess you would you have to enter if you decide to go to baseball. Then decides he wants to go back to football. Would you have to get drafted? What do you mean? Because he's drafted in baseball. He's as half his right? I'm saying we have to go into the draft in the NFL if he decides to go baseball. Yeah. And then is like next year. I'm going to go the NFL draft. Yeah. No. He has to be dragged. This is opportunity because next year you're going to have Herbert your and then after that you're gonna have Trevor Lawrence like this is his time..

"And that includes when When Collor Murray pulls it down and takes off I think that takes some of the pressure off of the passing game. And that'll be a big key thing to remember Oklahoma last year put up points against the SEC defense and the year before that they dominated Auburn. So those two games, I think gives them a lot of confidence. Oh, you offensive lines of fun groups to watch they're very accomplished one of the best of the country. Great chemistry. Great togetherness. We'll see if they can handle that Alabama defensive front. They calling for a very very high scoring bowl game. Sometimes when all the pundits say one thing gives you a different, isn't it? Yeah. We'll see. Chris fowler. Kirk herbstreit on the matchup from Miami, Saturday night, Oklahoma, Alabama appearing on sportscenter Alabama will be looking to advance to its fourth consecutive college football championship. We mentioned the other semi-final Notre Dame Clemson from Arlington, Texas and the good. Cotton Bowl classic. He was obviously disappointed at all three of those guys were disappointed, but not surprised. It's not like it was a different tests is the same same urine. Sorry about that. But that's what it was. Different to same urine. So the test was the same. I don't think anybody was real surprised by that. So how big will Dexter Lawrence's absence? Be for Clemson ESPN college football analyst, Bobby carpenter Friday on Golic and wingo. Dexter Lawrence's graded as a first-round talent is probably going to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft for reason, and you may have another guy or two, but there's always going to be some level of drop off. I don't care how well you recruit. I don't care. How will you develop players? It doesn't matter that some point in time when you take out a star player that's elite the guy behind him is his backup for reason. Now, maybe close, but Dexter lords is still really good. And so I think yeah, you're gonna throw in Albert Huggins. They're through now's Pinkney, and those guys would be able to have good games, and they'll be productive. They're not going to be to Dexter Lawrence's caliber Joey Galloway with Kevin Godley on sports center with more on those guys. We're going to have to snap up for the Tigers freight to have Joey Galloway here with us. And where does the pressure now fall when you lose a guy like Dexter Lawrence with? Clemson defense the pressures on Brent Venables. Now, he has to figure out what to do extra Lawrence's an NFL ready guile everybody thinks he'll be in the first round. He's out you go to Albert Huggins. That's.

"It'll be really interesting process to see played out, and he did his name to the draft advisory committee who will give him a conservative grade of where they think he'll be drafted. But it's really tough with the guy like Collor Murray. First of all it's tough with any quarterback because we're talking. About you know, only X amount of teams need a quarterback in the first round or the first fifty picks. And then of those team how many would actually take a chance on five nine hundred ninety pound quarterback. So I don't know how anyone can really forecast at this point how early he could go. I think the backfield with Josh Jacobs, and Damian Harris, I know I will produce a lot of big time running backs, but they have a chance to be some of the best running back. They produced and then just the offense with the offense. Bring that's what really separates this Alabama team from past Alabama teams. "I'm really interested in in your view of of collar Murray before we get onto what happened at Oklahoma. As we say, what do you tell us about his time at AM dig recruit? Certainly what happened. Yeah. He was the son of Kevin Murray who, you know, thirty years ago was a standout quarterback at Texas AM and all the way up until collar Murray's transfer beloved at that point. But essentially Kevin someone set like he had to recruit Colin Murray. Now, seeing what he's done at Oklahoma and say, well, that's a heck of a recruit, but he sell pressured into it because of the legacy aspect of it all the already had the five store on boarding tile. Alan centrally it seemed to me like Collor Murray was promised playing time in the open argon shares on a state if he was designed with the aggies if you remember there was this late push by Texas and Kyla posted a picture of Texas jersey, and all these things so essentially he when he played he was just still so small, and and, you know, Jake Spanta tall Chem someone we're encouraging him to slide early. He really wasn't doing everything he's doing now at Oklahoma. And he was in a battle with collar Allen. Kevin Murray was was. Almost say meddlesome, but he was around and essentially you also had Kevin someone at that point. Just. Not as maybe as interested in his quarterback battles. He should have been. So it's still unheard of to me Paul then in December the years ago you had not one but two starting quarterbacks transfer in Texas ain't in Tahoe. Allen leaves Kevin someone then declares collar Murray. The starter clear-cut started the job is his for the next two years, and he leaves anyway that that shows you how dysfunctional this program was at that point under ten someone. And frankly, I couldn't I couldn't blame collar Mercer leaving when he did. Yeah. I remember that season. Now, you remember more than I do, but Kyle Allen had some moments all of a sudden he was no longer the starting quarterback. And then he was and it was a mess which lead obviously to where we are today in terms of recruit though. I mean, he, you know, he came from the right school the right lineage. I mean, he was a big time recruit. I mean, five star that that's pretty well speaks for itself, doesn't it? Yeah. It doesn't. I wanna say. Now, I'm going into the way back machine here. But I think Jarrett stidham was in play at that point to right and essentially Kevin someone self pressure to go with with Colin Murray. Oh, boo over Jared stood him in. Yeah. And he was a legacy. You know old aggies everywhere wanted to see Kevin Murray, some plenty for the aggies and so forth. And yeah, he was to me calamari is the all time, and this is really saying something considering Texas high school football, but he's been number one all time, Texas high school football. I mean, he he was beaten as a starter three three state titles. If I recall those things so at at at the biggest division. I mean, we're not talking to eighty so. Yeah. So yeah. All those things added up to to him becoming an Aggie. And I was there that day. He he pledged and it was funny. I included this in the column I wrote about it this week. He talked about wanting to go to the SEC incited Johnny Manziel winning in the Heisman Trophy in the SEC in saying that if you'd have been in the big twelve big ten or. Twelve that people would still wonder if he would have been able to get that done in the NFL. And Tyler said, that's why he wanted to go to that. Yes. You see to prove that he can win a Heisman? And yes, you see. Well, he won one in the big twelve. So again, I can't I can't leaving. It was just it was a string of so many quarterbacks under Kevin someone bailing out. I mean, I'm I'm thinking of the top of my head..

"So our guys were excited about the opportunity, and we continue this journey that we've been on since January, Brian you've made some significant changes in the way you approached your program. You talked to your players you listen to them those adjustments in the way, you relate your involvement with all aspects of the team. What's it like for you now to at least in some level? See that pay off this opportunity to make the playoffs. Well, you know, we're twenty twenty two and three in our last twenty five games. So this has been, you know, two years of of sticking to a process and a plan that, you know, any, you know, anybody in business or CEO when they needed to make a pivot or an adjustment, you know, to their company and wanted to see that come together, I'm seeing come together in a positive way. So we had to make some adjustments certainly and those those are never easy or hard and to stick with them. I'm proud of our staff and our players that they have been consistent in their approach to the adjustments and changes that we've made. But the one thing that we've done is that we stick to the mission, and that's to graduate all of our players and to win a national championship in that hasn't changed. Ryan, congratulations on this look forward to seeing your team compete against Clemson in the Cotton Bowl coming up on December twenty nine congratulations. My friend. Thanks. We appreciate it. All right. Brian Kelly at Notre Dame. We take a look at fighting Irish road to the championship onto you by Mercedes Benz undefeated regular seasons in the last half century. Lou Holtz won the last national title for the fighting Irish in nineteen eighty eight nineteen seventy three and an epic game against Alabama new sugarbowl won the national championship and societas president two thousand eighteen Bill. Take on Clemson in the college football playoff era, Notre Dame. Do you see a big difference in what level of challenge they'll get to Clemson? As compared to what we saw in two thousand twelve it'll be better two thousand twelve was was bad. This is a better Notre Dame team. This is a more skilled Notre Dame team. I think just we'll coach set is right. The quarterback spot. I don't think Ian book is the he isn't is that the dynamic player like Collor Murray or two or even Trevor Lawrence, but he's a point guard. He's a distributor. He'll get the ball out of his hands. They got big wide receivers on the outside. They can take advantage. And I'll say this. They're passing game versus Clemson secondary will decide the ballgame. Nobody's gonna up and pound clumps. And I I think I don't think any of us think that will happen. But I think now with Ian book at quarterback in the system playing these games spread in the ball around. Go after Clemson safety is a little bit in the back end. I think they'll have the chance to have success and keep the game close. Brian Kelly is one of the best coaches in in in America. And I it showed in the US game in the second half. Just missed they made an and everytime. I've watched this. Clemson defense is outstanding as they are at times. They lose the running back out of the backfield one of the adjustments that Notre Dame made against USC. Don't about a Dexter Williams out of the backfield. USC brought a blitz. They hit the back of the backfield down the sideline for a huge score. And so this matchup gets interesting to me because this Clemson defense as out sending is they are front. They liked to blitz. And so bring blitzes from different places the attack of Notre Dame and getting the ball to their backs out of the backfield. And I just run it. But thrown a tomb is going to be interesting wrinkle in this game to see who can win that match up. I've had both these teams quite a bit. This year. And I think the personality of the two teams fit. I think I think it's going to be a good battle..

"collor murray" Discussed on Championship Drive
