Can't tell the lineage southbound on Georgia avenue as you approach the beltway. That is word of a new crash. BW Parkway south remains slow, headed down to a crash in your powder mill that's been moved over onto both shoulders. Jack Taylor, WTO P traffic. "Welcome the quick brain bite size brain hacks for busy people who want to learn faster and achieve more. I'm your coach, Jim quick. Free your mind. Let's imagine if we could access 100% of our brain's capacity. I wasn't high wasn't wired. Just clear. I knew what I needed to do and how to do it. I know I'm Kung fu. Show me. Welcome back quick brain. Your question for today is how do you induce a flow state? We're talking about flow states, many of you have listened to our conversation with Stephen coller, the state of being where you are feeling your best and performing at your best and who doesn't want that, whether it's accelerated learning or just getting through your emails throughout that day. And we're shooting this as kind of a part two. If you haven't listened to the previous episode, make sure you do so. But I'm back here with my friend Scott Donnell and he is the founder of happy, which we talked about in a previous episode on sleep, where you could actually choose the way you feel. An amazing new pandemic technology. I think you have like 40 patents or something like that. You have an army of scientists and PhDs working on this amazing way to be able to get this magnetic imprint of molecules, anything from caffeine to melatonin. And so you can actually choose the way you feel. Choose to be calm, choose to fall asleep faster and deeper. Choose to be alert. Yeah. And you know, I want to talk to you about a little about flow. Because it seems like this is really in your Wheelhouse because I don't know I think a lot of people and we didn't mention this. But you also founded a leadership organization with 3 million plus members. You've headed companies like this at like 80 different products. That doesn't come always from just working hard. There's a method behind what looks like magic. So I wanted to pick your brain. We happen to be at both speaking at the bio lacking conference. So we kind of set this up as impromptu. But thanks for doing this. Yeah, thanks for coming to my suite at the top of this Hyatt regency..

She was also the first one to go to the the deepest point in space and the first woman to dive. Wait a minute. I want to make sure because this is from producer that accurate kathy yet no first american woman to walk in space overall. Yeah that's what. I thought i wanna make sure first woman challenger deep is correct and i would love it if you would add in there that that actually makes me. According to guinness world records the most vertical person in the world. No let's let you say that on the podcast. Okay because i liked what you i want. I'm gonna start that over. I could make sure. I american woman. Because i yeah. I have production that the weather channel provides for me. Sometimes they're lost like. I'm glad i caught that all right three to one to boldly go where no man has gone before heavy. Great ring to it and it started many a star trek episode in movie ago but breaking the glass ceiling to boldly go where no woman has gone to. Four can describe our guest today. Who was the first american woman to walk in space and the first woman did go to the deepest point in the ocean challenger deep in the mariana trench. These are just a few of the accomplishments of my guest today today. We'll talk about breaking barriers. And the amazing career of dr catherine sullivan. I know her as kathy doctor. Sullivan whatever we call each other. I've known her for some great colleague and friend. Thank you for joining us on the weather. Spot guest vote for kathy and marshall. Okay let's do accept the votes so thank you so much for joining us. This is this is really a who for us to get you on the podcast. Because you know. I'm so excited to introduce you to rest of the world. Many people already. Certainly no. you are with the weather geeks listeners. Who don't you're in for treat today. And i want what a start with something you said. You are in the guinness book of world records. I understand tell us what. I actually have three guinness world records as it turns out and i i got the well. One event on june seventeenth of last year was the capstone to all three of them as it turns out so i am As guinness recognizes the first woman to reach divas point in the world ocean like you said the challenge deep. I'm also the first person to both orbit the planet and reach steepest point. And i'm also the way i phrased there phrasings a little bit clumsier but guinness world records has acknowledged me as the most vertical person in the world from the deepest point in the world's oceans to the altitude of this space shuttle mission on which we delivered the hubble space telescope to orbit. Now there's a minor caveat that they added most vertical person or person to travel the greatest vertical extent in earth's exo spear. Because obviously if you count the guys that went the moon. That's a whole lot further away from earth. But but i argue. That's kind of cheating. Because that's not around her. He went somewhere else right so you can certainly see now while we all this episode going to extremes before we really dig into some of those extremes. Let me give you a little bit of Dr sell right. It's just. I do know kathy coller capital but it's still just i respect her. So much. the colleen s still default to call your doctor sold at times. She has a bachelor science degree. Inner scientists and university of california santa cruz in a phd in geology. For boy i may not get this name of the university of dallas. How you pronounce that now. Dow lousy dalhousie university nineteen seventy eight. She joined nathen nineteen seventy. It was a part of the first astronaut. Bruce to include women and she performed the first extra vehicular activity eva by an american woman during the space shuttle challenger mission s s forty on g on october eleventh nineteen eighty-four and she served on the crew. Thirty one which launched and kennedy space center on nineteen ninety during that mission. The discovery deployed the hubble space telescope. She left nathan nineteen ninety-three after flying several other space shuttle missions logging five hundred thirty two hours in space. There are many other things that i'm gonna share. She was the former head of the national oceanic and atmospheric administration know whether geeks certainly know it because apparently the national weather service. So gosh where to start. I mean i usually asked whether yes how became weather geeks or interested in weather. How did you become a science. Did you really get into science. It is it a kid story or an experience it as a kid story. It's it's like a second grade story within one massive detour that led to a massive reversal. Many years later so In second grade we had a moment where we were each allowed to go to the library and pick any book. We wanted to pick remember why i picked the one i did but i do remember. It was about rocketry so in second grade this would be one thousand nine hundred fifty six or seven. Maybe maybe split has happened. My father was an aerospace engineer. So that may have been where the whole you know that. Daddy's interested in things so little girls are interested in those things to some degree. But i remember that book distinctly because it was in that book. I learned that there is such thing as escape velocity the speed you have to reach in order to break free of earth's gravity and go somewhere else like the moon or mars and just the whole notion the there is such a thing and that and that it is known like how do people. How does that happen that you know that thing like that thing exists in. You know what it is. That sort of dazzled me but by about fifth grade i had recognized if flair for foreign languages would seem to better fit for my true desire which which was to find a way that somebody bought me airplane ticket so i could travel to and live in work in and really come to no other countries and other cultures on the planet so fifth grade to frankly starting college. That was the game plan. I was working on an in college. When i was forced to take several natural science courses One was a marine biology courses. One a general oceanography course. Physics chemistry biology and geology. And i saw in front of me and these two young professors the kind of adventurous inquisitive. Life i had seen in astronauts and you read about an archaeologist and people like that but you know what did i know for how many kinds of jobs there are in the world but that are intrinsically adventurous and inquisitive. I didn't know that any of that. Really until i watched. Astronauts on television read about aquanautic magazines and then bingo saw these two basically oceanographers standing in front of me telling their tales about you exploring the ocean and traveling to exotic places to join ship to go figure out how something else work. And i right away said man forget the language pathway. I'm going with them. Wow the again. that's you know it's always interesting to hear. That started because the stories are so interesting. And i know that we have some younger people that listen to the spied gas. We're talking with dr catherine sullivan. I mentioned much of her nasa career. She left nasa in nineteen ninety three..
