"Professor at the University of Maryland College Park, and you can follow him on Twitter at P. Marie See one that's aft. P m O R I c I and the numeral one. Hi, Peter. Evening. Nice do it. You'd be good to have you back on tonight. Now, let's talk a bit about this stupendous $1.9 billion stimulus package. 1.9 act. I believe that it would be a trillion dollar stimulus package. You tell us more about that. Well, it's terribly large given we've already spent about $4 trillion with the latest Baggage that we had passed the end of December. And we do need focused assistance now in structural problems, But the Economy doesn't need another big jolt, so to speak. On one of the checks. I mean, 484 billion of the 1.9 Trillion will be in just checks the households and you get another $1400. And it's basically a campaign promise that the president made You said, you know, vote for these two senators and Georgia. Give me these two Democratic candidates as senators, and you will get a check in the mail. Goodness gracious. If Donald does something like that, like Nancy might not have been able to keep her eyeballs within their socket, But hypocrisy rooms you know, make like, you know, elephants at the zoo that just runs around. Been any case. It's way too large, and it's miss focused. We should have is a smaller package that's focused on the unemployed. After all, does a couple that makes $100,000 a year? Uh, that is not lost their jobs that's working at home that no longer has community expenses. Really need $600 from the December package and now another $1400 in free money, especially the way we're getting this money. We have to borrow it in the Fed, essentially Princeton more money to buy those bonds because they can't sell the bonds. My feeling is that it's very It's just just over killed Now. This president told us that science was going to come first. Remember that science was totally right. Okay. Science is gonna come first. Then you could say, Well, you know, economics is kind of an imprecise scientists, foreign art things like this. But Larry Summers Who was Treasury secretary during the Clinton years. Uh, during the last two years, the Clinton administration is a Harvard professor, is that the chief chief? Democratic economist So important he's not in the government right now. And he wrote last You know, several months ago that the $2000 stimulus payment which this would create Was just unnecessary and it was bad economics and it was stupid. I wrote the same thing coming from the conservative side. Yet the president, you know, seems to ignore roll economics. If he says he wants something, Jared Bernstein will find a rationalization for anything if if the President United States assigns that if you dropped an apple from the blue leaning Tower of peace, it will go up into orbit and sit down into ground. Jared will give you a physics textbook that tells you that And so I mean well. He believes that raising the minimum wage will not cause unemployment. In fact, it will increase employment by putting possible spendable income into well. Ask him to Don't ask him if you won't increase employment unless he's moved off his position, So, but the thing is, is that people in the White House right now? We're in the business of keeping progressive campaign promises. And this is a very, very old conceive package because the Brookings instant sushi see in order for money to work. If you give if I give the ball and family money in order for it to create stimulus so that goods air made the well and in family has suspended Now we give people money in a tax cut, or we give them a check. They usually save a little bit of it. The less the last year's checks. 77% was saved because they have to roll. It's going to people that is sitting at home. They can't go to restaurants. Even the restaurants are open. You'd be crazy to use them. So they basically saving the money so we're not simulating anything. I'm not going out of stimulating. Right. Exactly. The Brookings Institution is estimated these stimulus checks again. The Brookings Institution is not known as a Republican or conservative, think tanks. I mean, really, basically, they never saw the government social program they didn't like over the Brookings Institution. I mean, the way you do what you do way you affirm that a new social program is a good idea. Is you drive by the Brookings Institution, had them open up their windows in his suitcase in the Democratic vans go by. They yell. Yes. They have said that 71% will be saved. Mr. Biden. What happened to science? Maybe he's in the basement. And that's one of those. You know where we used to go. T o the world's fair when I was a kid, and then do you go to Disneyland. They had these mechanical creatures that look like Abraham Lincoln. Yes. You know what I'm talking about? Absolutely. The animatronic creations. Yes, animatronic creations, which which, which, which used to be stopped. You stop action Animation in the movies for things like Sinbad, the sailor. Maybe he's in the White House. And Joe is still in the basement reading science books. I don't know. But if there was ever Dumb idea. It's $1.9 trillion stimulus package. So I have to say this goes right up there with if you thought if you thought the war was a bad idea, If you thought the war was a bad idea, then what you want to do is put decorated by putting Excessive 1.9 center all the way up and down the Mexican. Let me ask you about what's in this thing, Okay?.

The Joy of 'Jingle Jangle'
"If you're looking for a mood boost in this season then. I've got just the movie for you to check out netflix's general jangle. I was absolutely caught up in the wonder and magic of this film. And i won't even tell you how many times i've played the soundtrack but beyond the magic i feel like there several life lessons to be gained from the film as will joining me in gushing over the movie today is jordan. Madison jordan is a licensed clinical marriage and family therapist originally from brooklyn new york currently living in silver spring maryland. She received her. Ba in psychology from spelman college in her ms couple and family therapy from university of maryland. College park and works as a family therapists at friends in transition counseling services in maryland. She's also one of our contributing writers here at therapy for black girls jordan and i chatted about the themes present in the movie. Why a film like this was so necessary right now and the importance of staying connected to our sense of play and wonder as adults. This episode does contain spoiler. So please save it until after you've had a chance to enjoy the movie if there's something that resonates with you while enjoying our conversation please share with us on social media using the hashtag. Tv g in session. Here's our conversation and be sure to stay tuned after my conversation jordan for an interview with two jingle jangle youngest man. Thank you so much for joining me today jordan. Thank you so much for having me you. So i'm very excited that you were able to join me because i feel like jingle jangle is the single most just adorable. Wholesome like swedish thing. I have seen in quite some time. I write it is really yeah. It really felt like a bom at this point in the year. That is twenty. Twenty right Yeah so. I know that you also had lots of thoughts and feelings about jingle jangle so i love to just kinda here. You know like on a cursory level. What kind of were your initial reactions to it. Like you said i mean it was just definitely a feel good movie. Great to see black culture black hairstyles. He saw dance moves. You saw so much of the culture in the movie itself as well and so that was great to see. I loved the grandparent aspect of it. I have you know amazing parents than they had me. Young and so. My grandparents have always stepped in albany very integral part of me growing up so i love that part that definitely warned my heart as well so the movie it was it was great. Yeah and it wasn't really something. I was expecting to love so i think he came out earlier this year. Right like in november. And i saw people talking about it and i was like. Oh maybe i'll have the kids wash that like a little closer to christmas or something. I mean then. I found out it was a musical and i'm not usually a fan of music. That was like oh i'm gonna love that and then we watched did the first time in the evening and i just first of all i probably teared up within like the first fifteen minutes right because it was so beautiful. You know and like you're mentioning. Just lots of layers in terms of the family dynamic and just like you said gorgeous hair styles and just it was shot beautifully right so i think it just put me. All of my feels in a way. That i wasn't necessarily expecting. Yeah i think my first time watching it. My dad and my step mom and my two siblings live in atlanta but i am currently in maryland in we decided to watch it together over net flicks to and that was nice and then we watched it again. I wanna say it was thanksgiving evening or sometime around the thanksgiving holiday inn. So it's definitely a nice family movie but like you said. There's a lot of generational things that i saw that were woven in as well so i really appreciate it. I think it's a great movie for all ages. Yeah i agree. I agree with it now. Because i feel like i can't ever really watch anything without like picking up some additional meanings. I definitely feel like i was able to get lost in it. Which i think was a part of the fun that i was able to really kind of get lost in the magic of it in a fantasy of it but i did still kind of walk away with like. Oh there was a mess we can use f. or something else right so tell me about maybe some of the messages that you got from the field ivory washed it now. Maybe three to four times. There's like three major themes standouts to me so one was just belief like believing in yourself believing in the magic of things and therapist in me kinda boiled down to like imposter syndrome and how that can make you not believe in yourself but also the like the pros and cons of it right because the competing toymaker. He stole the ideas from toronto. Will you know him taking drama things. It just showed me that. What's for you is for you. So even though he took it and made a profit in the beginning when that lasts invention that he tried to steal didn't work to me. It was because you didn't know what it took or what was the meaning or what was important behind. It like how drawn did because he's who created it. It didn't work for you so even though you tried to steal his shine it still ended up. Not coming to you. The way that you expected and then for dronka's like once a believer always a believer. So i think with his phil successes. It made him forget who he really is in. It reminded me sometimes with myself or with clients that i see that when things don't go our way we sometimes start to feel like maybe this is not for us when maybe it is. It's just that we're having some difficult times. That doesn't mean that it takes away who you are what you were created to do so. That was the first team that stood out to me because belief in the magic and all of those things in that being what made the the code that he would write in work and stuck out.

WASP Documentarian Erin Miller
"I'm talking today to Aaron Miller. Now, Erin is not a pilot, but she is the granddaughter of a wasp that's women's airforce service pilots, and she has a fascinating story to tell. So Aaron, thank you so much for being with us today. Thank you for having me your welcome so What I'd like is for you to to share with us what what your grandmother has shared with you about her flying story, and then we'll get to your story of how you how you made things right for your grandmother. But can you tell us how she got her starting aviation? So. My Grandmother. Elaine. Dan. For harmon was born in Baltimore Maryland in Nineteen nineteen and she grew up in the city and was born at home in her house. And had two siblings and was very independent. sporty did a lot of rotor bike and very athletic growing up and she attended the University of Maryland in College Park. Maryland for college. and. She did lots of activities there as well. She was a cheerleader she was on the rifle team swim team. She was in a sorority in all kinds of things very active and her senior year of college. She saw an advertisement in the school newspaper for the civilian. Pilot Training. program. Which I'm sure your listeners are familiar with but it was a program in the nineteen thirties to have more people in the United States prepare to get a pilot's license and Senate was I guess subsidized by the US government and it was offered through a lot of universities and university. Of Maryland was one of them. And Anyway. So they had an advertisement for this program where you could learn how to fly and it costs thirty five dollars. Or forty dollars and you got thirty five hours of flight training and ground school and whatever. So my grandma thought that would be cool. So she applied and at the time which doesn't sound like a big deal you're signing up for a class nowadays. But back, then if you were a woman, they only accepted one woman for every ten men in the class. So you kind of had to I don't I never asked her if there were comp competition about this or she just happened to be the only woman that applied I don't really know but anyway. So, she asked her dad for the money and she also had to get a permission slip signed because she was female and under the age of twenty one and not married. So her dad had to sign a permission slip and that's how she initially took pilot training lessons West, through this program at the University of Maryland. Very. Cool. So after she got her thirty five hours, did she continue to fly on her own? Not Really she I think she did a little bit but she basically that was in nineteen, hundred forty, sue her last year of college. She got her pilot's license and then not too long after that, she got married in the summer of nineteen forty one. To my grandfather, and then as your listeners I'm sure. Well, aware six months later Pearl Harbor happened. So I don't think you flying around was generally something that happened. A Lot. So at that point, my grandmother and grandfather were moving around a lot to support the war effort they lived in Ohio at one point for a while and we're kind of working at different places. And and so how did she get back into? So in nineteen, forty, three, I believe there was an big. The Women Airforce Service pilots kind of became newsworthy and there was a little bit of news about them. Newsreel. The old newsreels are in life magazine, and so my grandmother heard about this program called the WAAS. And thought she could apply and she asked my grandfather. If he thought it would be a good idea and he thought it would be a great idea for her. So she applied and she kind of didn't really think she would get in because she really the most she had done was that civilian pilot training program she didn't have a lot of hours. And she kind of applied and thought oh well, we'll see what happens but they accepted her. So that's how she ended up becoming one of the Watson. Then she started training in April of Nineteen, forty four where did she go for Carini? She was in sweetwater Texas Avenger field, which is in western Texas. About an hour west of Abilene Texas. Now. Did your grandfather go there with her when she went there No. So my grandfather was an engineer and he later became a patent attorney, but he was not in the service because he had a physical defect so he was So, he couldn't serve in the army. But he was I think recruited I would say by a company to actually manufactured airplane parts called Jack and Heintz which some people may not because I've seen their parts in the in the warbirds He got sent to Asia to work on a plan to repair aircraft for the US military in theater in the Pacific. So the planes didn't have to be sent back to the continental United States to be repaired to save time. So he got sent over there to work on that program as a civilian, and so he was gone during this time when she was trainy. tweet water. Aircraft was she trained in? So she was trained on I think they were all trained on basic plane. So things like the the steersman PT, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, eighty, sixes, bt, Thirteen's neither all planes that she was training on. And what did she eventually flawed she I assume she was multi current and flew a lot of different airplanes as wasp. Yes. So all the WAAS flu lots of different planes and there were groups of wasps that were trained to fly every plane that was produced during World War Two from little trainer planes all the way up to be twenty nine bomber. So not every wasp was trained to fly every plane obviously but they're little groups trained to fly like you know pursuit crafter bombers or whatever. So. She was trained to fly bt thirteen's to train men in instrument training. So that was her job after she graduated. So she was transferred to Nellis Air. Base. In Las Vegas. And with her best friend from the WAAS Maggie Gee and Magnesia was to- target pilot in Las Vegas. So they were transferred there and my grandma trained men on instrument training in the thirteen. And she was also has some time as a co-pilot on the B seventeen.
