This is a Bloomberg money minute. It's no secret that recent times have been tough for nurses with the pandemic and staff shortages, but things may finally be looking up. 80% of nurses plan to stay in their field until retirement, which is a big increase. It was only at 55% last year. Doctor Iman abuse, CEO and cofounder of incredible health. There's also been 10% degrease in the number of nurses who are planning to leave their current roles this year. That's according to the results of incredible health's fourth annual state of nursing report, but not all the news is good. 84% of nurses asked don't think the industry is improving fast enough when it comes to addressing understaffing. Burnout and pay. Still, just over half say they would recommend nursing as a career. And the data point to nurse mental health that is no longer in decline. There was a one point increase in nurses reporting good mental health from 25% last year to 26% this year, improving, but still with a way to go. From the Bloomberg newsroom, I'm Steve potus. Gone WTO. It's one 41. High winds and heavy downpours blew through the area Saturday and so did a brief tornado. The national weather service has confirmed that an EF zero tornado touched down in poolsville, Maryland around two yesterday afternoon. And EF zero has peak winds of 75 mph. Storm team forest chuck bell with our forecast. March is known to be one of our windiest months of the year, and the next few days after today will certainly prove that point. Afternoon highs today will be up around 60° with plenty of sunshine. Clouds will come along with a cold front that will pass through during the overnight hours tonight. It could ring out a couple of drops of rain, but rainfall totals, if any, will only be in the few hundreds of an inch. But the clouds, which will be with us tomorrow morning with temperatures near 40, are going to get pushed out of here on a northwest wind that will average 20 and gust over 35 mph for all of your Tuesday afternoon. "We're going to start with a story that is pretty disgusting. I'll be honest, but it needs to be covered and talked about. We're not going to spend too much time on it, but it needs to be talked about. Democrat mayor in Maryland arrested on 56 child pornography related charges. The mayor of college park, Maryland, Patrick Wu Jean, who's arrested Thursday on 56 child pornography possession and distribution charges. He's a gay activist, 47 year old gay activist, Democrat, faces 40 counts of hard to even read this. I'll be honest. It's so disgusting. It's vomit inducing, but it's real. So if you don't have the stomach for this, then I apologize. Possession of exploitive child material and 16 counts of distribution of exploitive child material, a press release from the prince George county police department set. Now, the national center for missing and exploited children were first alerted that the department had a social media account operating within the county was distributing quote suspected child pornography on February 17th, according to PGP and law enforcement deserves credit for working quickly and arresting a rather high profile Democrat. Someone that is and we'll talk about this in a second, someone that is off was awfully popular with Buttigieg and that whole that whole cabal. Regular guest at The White House, all that. And by the way, just so we're clear, at least 13 mayors in the last couple years have been arrested on child sex crimes since 2021 that's really strange, isn't it?

"Jameer young led 5 players in double figures with 18 points as Maryland used a strong second half to beat 21st ranked northwestern 75 to 59. The terms improved to 20 and 9 and 11 and 7 in the Big Ten going a perfect ten and zero at home in the conference. Young's three pointer before the half gave Maryland a two point lead. I feel like that momentum screen it was big or just for us to be up at half and just to go in a second half, you know, with the most amount of confidence that we can win the game. "Retort George avenue, the inner loop slowed into college park, the wreck after route one was moved over onto the left shoulder lasts heard. We had a tow truck on scene, so hopefully that'll be out of there quickly. The outer loop got a little slower as you left central avenue in two O two, just riding up past four 50. Nothing to report in your way there. Two issues on the southbound two 70 spur. First, two 70 itself was slow in urbana. Again, at one O 9, and coming into Germantown, riding toward Montgomery village avenue, the delay builds at the lane divide, as you go down the spur after democracy, boulevard got one Brock. It's a crash in the left HOV lane, then just before you merge with the beltway, collars report the crash in the right side of the roadway. An issue on the ICC headed westbound after New Hampshire avenue, you'll find the crash along the right side of the roadway. South of town, the beltway inner loop still slows, saint Barnabas wrote down toward the Wilson bridge. Delays in Virginia come right out of Springfield, headed up toward two 36 on the inner loop, slowing in Fredericksburg on route one down a massive pontics church road, you're under crew direction because of emergency utility work. There's also a delay on the George Washington Parkway, north, as you head toward one 23 with that long-term work should be getting by to the right side. 66 had some spotty delays, eastbound in manassas, fairfax county Parkway headed toward 50, then you're wide open into Rosalind. 95 northbound, we'd been heavy, just leaving falmouth, headed toward Stafford and acquired. Again, briefly in woodbridge, then lorton toward newington, the delay through the Springfield interchange heads up onto three 95, slowing toward edsel road more delays duke up toward king street and to cross the 14th street bridge. She's also one of our contributing writers here at therapy for black girls jordan and i chatted about the themes present in the movie. Why a film like this was so necessary right now and the importance of staying connected to our sense of play and wonder as adults. This episode does contain spoiler. So please save it until after you've had a chance to enjoy the movie if there's something that resonates with you while enjoying our conversation please share with us on social media using the hashtag. Thank you so much for having me you. So i'm very excited that you were able to join me because i feel like jingle jangle is the single most just adorable. Wholesome like swedish thing. I have seen in quite some time. I write it is really yeah. It really felt like a bom at this point in the year. That is twenty. Twenty right Yeah so. I know that you also had lots of thoughts and feelings about jingle jangle so i love to just kinda here. You know like on a cursory level. What kind of were your initial reactions to it. Like you said i mean it was just definitely a feel good movie. Great to see black culture black hairstyles. He saw dance moves. You saw so much of the culture in the movie itself as well and so that was great to see. I loved the grandparent aspect of it. I have you know amazing parents than they had me. Young and so. My grandparents have always stepped in albany very integral part of me growing up so i love that part that definitely warned my heart as well so the movie it was it was great. Yeah and it wasn't really something. I was expecting to love so i think he came out earlier this year. Right like in november. And i saw people talking about it and i was like. Oh maybe i'll have the kids wash that like a little closer to christmas or something. I mean then. I found out it was a musical and i'm not usually a fan of music. That was like oh i'm gonna love that and then we watched did the first time in the evening and i just first of all i probably teared up within like the first fifteen minutes right because it was so beautiful. You know and like you're mentioning. Just lots of layers in terms of the family dynamic and just like you said gorgeous hair styles and just it was shot beautifully right so i think it just put me. All of my feels in a way. That i wasn't necessarily expecting. Yeah i think my first time watching it. My dad and my step mom and my two siblings live in atlanta but i am currently in maryland in we decided to watch it together over net flicks to and that was nice and then we watched it again. I wanna say it was thanksgiving evening or sometime around the thanksgiving holiday inn. So it's definitely a nice family movie but like you said. There's a lot of generational things that i saw that were woven in as well so i really appreciate it. I think it's a great movie for all ages. Yeah i agree. I agree with it now. Because i feel like i can't ever really watch anything without like picking up some additional meanings. I definitely feel like i was able to get lost in it. Which i think was a part of the fun that i was able to really kind of get lost in the magic of it in a fantasy of it but i did still kind of walk away with like. Oh there was a mess we can use f. or something else right so tell me about maybe some of the messages that you got from the field ivory washed it now. Maybe three to four times. There's like three major themes standouts to me so one was just belief like believing in yourself believing in the magic of things and therapist in me kinda boiled down to like imposter syndrome and how that can make you not believe in yourself but also the like the pros and cons of it right because the competing toymaker. He stole the ideas from toronto. Will you know him taking drama things. It just showed me that. What's for you is for you. So even though he took it and made a profit in the beginning when that lasts invention that he tried to steal didn't work to me. It was because you didn't know what it took or what was the meaning or what was important behind. It like how drawn did because he's who created it. It didn't work for you so even though you tried to steal his shine it still ended up. Not coming to you. The way that you expected and then for dronka's like once a believer always a believer. So i think with his phil successes. It made him forget who he really is in. It reminded me sometimes with myself or with clients that i see that when things don't go our way we sometimes start to feel like maybe this is not for us when maybe it is. It's just that we're having some difficult times. That doesn't mean that it takes away who you are what you were created to do so. That was the first team that stood out to me because belief in the magic and all of those things in that being what made the the code that he would write in work and stuck out.

"I'm talking today to Aaron Miller. Now, Erin is not a pilot, but she is the granddaughter of a wasp that's women's airforce service pilots, and she has a fascinating story to tell. So Aaron, thank you so much for being with us today. Thank you for having me your welcome so What I'd like is for you to to share with us what what your grandmother has shared with you about her flying story, and then we'll get to your story of how you how you made things right for your grandmother. But can you tell us how she got her starting aviation? So. My Grandmother. Elaine. Dan. For harmon was born in Baltimore Maryland in Nineteen nineteen and she grew up in the city and was born at home in her house. And had two siblings and was very independent. sporty did a lot of rotor bike and very athletic growing up and she attended the University of Maryland in College Park. Maryland for college. and. She did lots of activities there as well. She was a cheerleader she was on the rifle team swim team. She was in a sorority in all kinds of things very active and her senior year of college. She saw an advertisement in the school newspaper for the civilian. Pilot Training. program. Which I'm sure your listeners are familiar with but it was a program in the nineteen thirties to have more people in the United States prepare to get a pilot's license and Senate was I guess subsidized by the US government and it was offered through a lot of universities and university. Of Maryland was one of them. And Anyway. So they had an advertisement for this program where you could learn how to fly and it costs thirty five dollars. Or forty dollars and you got thirty five hours of flight training and ground school and whatever. So my grandma thought that would be cool. So she applied and at the time which doesn't sound like a big deal you're signing up for a class nowadays. But back, then if you were a woman, they only accepted one woman for every ten men in the class. So you kind of had to I don't I never asked her if there were comp competition about this or she just happened to be the only woman that applied I don't really know but anyway. So, she asked her dad for the money and she also had to get a permission slip signed because she was female and under the age of twenty one and not married. So her dad had to sign a permission slip and that's how she initially took pilot training lessons West, through this program at the University of Maryland. Very. Cool. So after she got her thirty five hours, did she continue to fly on her own? Not Really she I think she did a little bit but she basically that was in nineteen, hundred forty, sue her last year of college. She got her pilot's license and then not too long after that, she got married in the summer of nineteen forty one. To my grandfather, and then as your listeners I'm sure. Well, aware six months later Pearl Harbor happened. So I don't think you flying around was generally something that happened. A Lot. So at that point, my grandmother and grandfather were moving around a lot to support the war effort they lived in Ohio at one point for a while and we're kind of working at different places. And and so how did she get back into? So in nineteen, forty, three, I believe there was an big. The Women Airforce Service pilots kind of became newsworthy and there was a little bit of news about them. Newsreel. The old newsreels are in life magazine, and so my grandmother heard about this program called the WAAS. And thought she could apply and she asked my grandfather. If he thought it would be a good idea and he thought it would be a great idea for her. So she applied and she kind of didn't really think she would get in because she really the most she had done was that civilian pilot training program she didn't have a lot of hours. And she kind of applied and thought oh well, we'll see what happens but they accepted her. So that's how she ended up becoming one of the Watson. Then she started training in April of Nineteen, forty four where did she go for Carini? She was in sweetwater Texas Avenger field, which is in western Texas. About an hour west of Abilene Texas. Now. Did your grandfather go there with her when she went there No. So my grandfather was an engineer and he later became a patent attorney, but he was not in the service because he had a physical defect so he was So, he couldn't serve in the army. But he was I think recruited I would say by a company to actually manufactured airplane parts called Jack and Heintz which some people may not because I've seen their parts in the in the warbirds He got sent to Asia to work on a plan to repair aircraft for the US military in theater in the Pacific. So the planes didn't have to be sent back to the continental United States to be repaired to save time. So he got sent over there to work on that program as a civilian, and so he was gone during this time when she was trainy. tweet water. Aircraft was she trained in? So she was trained on I think they were all trained on basic plane. So things like the the steersman PT, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, eighty, sixes, bt, Thirteen's neither all planes that she was training on. And what did she eventually flawed she I assume she was multi current and flew a lot of different airplanes as wasp. Yes. So all the WAAS flu lots of different planes and there were groups of wasps that were trained to fly every plane that was produced during World War Two from little trainer planes all the way up to be twenty nine bomber. So not every wasp was trained to fly every plane obviously but they're little groups trained to fly like you know pursuit crafter bombers or whatever. So. She was trained to fly bt thirteen's to train men in instrument training. So that was her job after she graduated. So she was transferred to Nellis Air. Base. In Las Vegas. And with her best friend from the WAAS Maggie Gee and Magnesia was to- target pilot in Las Vegas. So they were transferred there and my grandma trained men on instrument training in the thirteen. And she was also has some time as a co-pilot on the B seventeen.

If anything resumes with you all join this episode. Please share with us on social media using the HASHTAG. TB In session. Here's our conversation. Thank you so much for joining us again today Dr Legs. Thank you for having back I. Love it here. We, are always happy to have you back. I really use you slide into my deals like, Hey, you know we talk about this. You created the perfect platform. So, tell me likes what was your initial reaction to the visuals as well as audio. In my chest, my reactions were. Still. Got It. That's what I thought initially like I could drop down get back up and I didn't out nor did I di- I was really proud of myself. Out of that. And it was so free nervous. The nineties Misao Josiah, I, grew up in Atlanta I grew up in college park. So here in Franks key on the radio was normal and regular everyone was like look at this homage homage and that was unexpected and then all the commentary and it's all based on this over sexualization of women and I was like, okay let's see the skull but everybody only defaulted to the over sexualization of the black woman based on this. Stereotype. The stereotype is the idea that. Lack, women typically our class figured lighter skin and with some tape of nine kinky hair, the the the Mulatto type woman is sexually overt and think a Karma Jones right. So Carmen in that movie would be the idea of a jazz about but people forget the conversation where. Black women and their relation also centralized as mammy. So fat dark skinned black women who have kinky hair who are considered not necessarily sexual, right? Because they're not the Jacksonville and yet they reproduce and take care of children. They are the form other four People Gov as the Welfare Queen, they're having tax they're producing but certainly seen as very sexual, and then there's also the Sapphire and the Sapphire is comes from and Andy rate in it's considered that kind of ball buster type woman who is like all well, you can't handle me and. Attitudinal and maybe like a clair huxtable, I will tell you when we will be together in this way and then there's the superwoman. So the Black Superwoman, this idea that women can make a dollar out of fifteen cents, take your communities in their children and their partners and their job and every. Old In an amazing and they're never exhausted or tired always pleasant attitude and the considered asexual right because there are so strong and they don't even need sex and nobody's willing to really them because they don't need have this. Physical pleasure or satisfaction lives. All of these other stereotypes? The only one that people went to focus on was the jets as I pigeonholing. So what do you think that is do you think that people aren't even aware of all these other stereotypes? Be Aware but I don't think that their sexuality is as amped up and I think that a black woman in charge of her own sexual pleasure is scary for some folks. We have a lot of shame I was personally told as a child to call maybe China pocketbook Zionist, governor. Yeah You keep your pocketbook close and you keep it off the floor. Right those are the two things you learned and I was like. That's interesting. Why would it ever be on the floor but the idea that if you had his own sexual pleasure, your type of Ho, your some type of one time and. over-centralised homequote not wifey material right and so I don't think the other ones get as much play because they are somewhat more acceptable.
