"Stay informed This is northwest news radio 1000 FM 97 7 Thank you for joining us I'm Rick fancied with Alisa jaffe and our editors Bill O'Neill Police in Tulsa say four people are dead after a gunman opened fire in a medical building at Saint Francis hospital Deputy chief Eric degli The officers that did arrive were hearing shots in the building and that's what directed them to the second floor The suspected gunman is also dead from an apparent self inflicted gunshot Above average mountain snow creating a unique situation in the cascades it could be some time before trails appear in the ground dries out the Department of Agriculture says snowpack measurements are still well over 100% for this time of year for most of Washington states The Kremlin today says the new advanced rocket systems the U.S. is sending to Ukraine are an escalation and could be used to target Russia Russia doesn't get a veto over what we sent to the Ukrainians The Ukrainians didn't start this war the Russians did That's doctor Colin kahl the undersecretary of defense for policy And he says Ukrainians have given assurance that they will use this system for defensive purposes only ABC's Andy field joining us on the northwest news line Russia says the U.S. is just adding fuel to the fire Andy Well it's a bit rich from the country that attacked unprovoked in other countries and killed at this rate thousands of people Look the United States is an ally of Ukraine It is promised to give them weapons The U.S. is not fighting But it's blowing the weapons to Ukraine And this is according to Russia step over the line saying these weapons can now reach inside a Russia Well if Russia didn't want that to happen perhaps it might have reconsidered attacking a sovereign nation but it didn't And as you heard the under secretary just say that Ukraine has given assurances that they're not going to use these systems for striking it in Russian territory although the U.S. trusts the Ukrainians will live up to those assurances The big fight of course is an eastern Ukraine It was called the dunbars region It has been an area that's been under dispute for more than a decade We're fighting has gone on between Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces for many many years with side trading blows and saying we have this territory No we have this territory The only difference now is that Russian troops are there helping those Russian separatists who live inside Ukraine fight to grab that territory They've also done an immeasurable damage to many other cities in Ukraine They have a blockade in the seas outside the port cities in southern Ukraine And that's not only just hurting Ukraine now It's hurting the rest of Europe because Ukraine is basically the bread basket of Europe providing untold amounts of wheat and that stuff is stuck in the porridge So it's not getting to the rest of there and it's going to cause famine in some places that depend on that wheat So while Russia is complaining about defensive weapons Ukraine is using to stave off rush's attack In the meantime it is hurting the rest of the world with its own actions And I saw today that officials in southeastern Ukraine say the Russia aligned region plans to try Ukraine's president as a war criminal they're saying that zelensky is guilty of issuing orders to send neo Nazis to the area to kill civilians Well look whoever wins a war is usually in charge of these war crimes things It does not look at this moment that Russia is winning anything other than grabbing little pieces of the country and trying to control it with the fierce fighting of the Ukrainians This has been going on now for a hundred days Something that Putin in the Russian salt would last a week So we don't know how long it's going to last We don't know how long the U.S. investment there is going to continue We've just added tens of billions of dollars in U.S. tax dollars to help Ukraine keep its democracy there And it's likely going to cost a lot more And Ukraine does have something to celebrate today They beat Scotland three to one in that pulsating World Cup qualifying playoff semifinal ABC sandy field thank you Andy from Singapore time I was going to talk to you we heard these kind of pretty dire warnings that there's a hurricane coming from JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon Are you preparing for a storm are you bracing yourself I think we are bracing ourselves but not necessarily for a storm but a slowdown or a sharp one rather would feel like a storm because we've had a pretty decent turnaround from the depth of the COVID crisis and expectations were 2022 was going to be a good year between reopening and decent exports and tourists coming back to Asia So if all of those things disappoint it is going to be a jarring set of outcome given the expectations which were fairly constructive and the view was we will be able to handle the federate hikes this year but not a deal at all and there are dark clouds in the horizon And that is also looming into these concerns those dark clouds about what we're seeing in the bond market We saw the 5 versus ten year sector going back into inversion We know we saw the twos tens in inversion earlier in the year How long before the yield curve fully inverts and what does that mean for other asset classes The yield curve flattening sharply I think is more of a worry for us than the output inversion because the whole progress from a decently steep curve to a very flat curve itself is telling you that expectations are fed rate hike to be sustainable is dimming and the view that the economic cycle will be prolonged itself is being challenged So whether two stems go into slightly negative territory you are just very very flat to us are the things you see in things Sharp inversion in our view is unlikely given that the rate hike cycle is very in its early phase So you can't really have a massive sharpened version because you can price basis points of rate hikes Every cuts given that there hasn't been equivalent to the amount of hikes yet But the points that were being discussed in your show earlier that the strong dollar our interest rate and persistent inflation are three major headwinds both for corporate earnings as well as for consumer expectations are not U.S. specific developments anymore Here in Asia also we are seeing how those becoming jittery being upset about the cost of food prices and fuel prices And they will strike exactly the same way that the U.S. consumers are likely to strike which is not by a lot more stuff However the difference is we think our relative basis U.S..

Bloomberg reporting that may sound tone deaf to workforces especially here in California as well as May scare the well insert your own words scare the out of Twitter's workforce which is pretty much working remotely And as long as we're dancing on range ops the jury has found both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard guilty of libel against each other in their suits Probably not Probably not the outcome that they expected or maybe it is In San Francisco I met Baxter This is Bloomberg Jules Thanks Ed All right let's get to our guests Telling you is CIO and managing director at nan fong in our Hong Kong studio for us So Helen some pretty concerning warning are coming through from Jamie Dimon to brace yourself that a hurricane is right out there Are you hunkering down Well for now I think things do look quite scary in terms of the trajectory because a lot of the things that we had working in positive feedback loops over the last couple of years with all that unprecedented fiscal monetary stimulus the asset price increase and all the positives that come with increased consumer confidence more consumption et cetera all of that stuff is now grinding to a halt and starting to reverse because of the current regime that we're in right That regime is basically a lot of inflation in the U.S. a lot of coming from labor and wages and so on And then from elsewhere from commodity prices energy prices brought on by Russia Ukraine China zero COVID et cetera If we say in that regime for the next 6 to 12 months then yes things will continuously probably get worse But there's some chance that the regime could change And Goldman Sachs kind of said you know retail investors are fleeing the market because as opposed to Tina where there is no alternative there are other alternatives now they're saying Tina's sister Tara has come to play is that kind of what you see too that investors are just trying to reposition across different assets Well for example fixed income a lot of people have really not wanted to own much or any over the past few years especially sovereign debt et cetera Because interest rates were just too low and people felt like fixing come valuation was just way too high Now that rates have gone back up a bit and are expected to go up further I think that becomes a possibility for people to consider again And then there is also others that I think were mentioned in their report including commodities et cetera which we actually are not that positive on at this point given that they've come up so much already and the supply could actually improve in some regards If certain things happen But yeah I think it's no longer at the same Tina regime that we had seen over the past three years We do though when you look at the bond market have the 5 versus ten year sector of the curve going back into that inversion on this threat of recession When do you think the twos tens follow suit and what does that mean for other asset classes Well the two tens actually already briefly inverted a while ago and then kind of popped back into positive territory again Look I think this is a result of the fact that people are worried about the regime that we're in that I was talking about And this was partly triggered by the Russia Ukraine unexpected events back in February and March as well So people realize that fed has the high grades and that's why the front end is actually quite high but people are also worried that all of these other things that are happening are going to bring world and the U.S. into a recession going into next year If there is any kind of improvement on the Russia Ukraine situation or on the China zero COVID situation people might get more positive in terms of the medium to longer term trajectory and therefore the long end could actually go up a little bit Normally at this part of the cycle we should not really be inverted or even flat at the moment So again it really depends on whether we have any regime change and also if for example markets have a huge decline in the coming couple of months and financial conditions tighten a lot Then maybe after the next two 50 basis point rate hikes then the expectation for September will actually loosen a little bit And the front end could come off So there's a number of combinations that could result in less inversion All right Helen when we continue.

"On inside the beltway live on this Wednesday morning. I'll be in the heart of the mall later today giving a speech to the NRB executive committee and I am going to be wandering around town all day, so I'm looking forward to a very cold and windy all day in the beltway. It's actually dropped overnight to 50°. It feels like fall. We could have a football game. Biggest news story, the rundown. Biggest news story. You won't see this many places. They don't care. Big media does not want to focus on what I think is an urgent situation because it should embarrass and discredit President Biden and everyone associated with him. Deputy under secretary Colin kahl went up to testify yesterday in the Senate, and confirmed that there are 450 American citizens still trapped in Afghanistan. Here is where he does the math, cut number two. In terms of how many American citizens we estimate are currently in Afghanistan. The Department of State is in contact with a 196 American citizens who are ready to depart and arrangements are being made for them to do so. Either via air or overground, and another 243 American citizens have been contacted and are not ready to depart, either because they want to stay in Afghanistan or aren't ready. The remarkable thing. Senator Earnhardt, the ranking member of defense drag that out Colin Kyle. The key thing is, why did we get told there were only a hundred and where are these people and what is happening to them and when you say they would like to leave and they're making preparation to what the hell does that mean? We've got American citizens in Afghanistan. They were supposed to be around a hundred. Already, a more than a hundred left. So you can see with 450 American citizens now in Afghanistan, they lie to you. They just absolutely lied to you. By the way, they lied to you about the threat of chair and the ability with, quote, over the horizon means to deter it, Colin kahl cut number four. I said was that the current intelligence community's assessment is that ISIS K could potentially develop a capability within 6 to 12 months and that Al-Qaeda could potentially develop that capability within one to two years. But it's precisely that threat that we need to remain and disrupt. How do we determine whether they have the intention or the will, to attack once they have a capability to do so? Well, I think we are actually a fairly certain that they have the intention to do so. And I think the committee had the opportunity to hear from the intelligence community in a classified setting not too long ago and we can follow up in the closed session. But we have considerable evidence that they have the intent. The question at the moment is the capability. They have the intent to strike the United States again. Amazing hirano actually did her job, which is to ask a completely the question that yielded a better answer than all the prepared people got. Because he said, well, they have the president intention. He let down his guard because he's talking to me, I run him from Hawaii and everyone knows she's never going to win the spelling bee. So I like Colin call it that is gardening. Accidentally, let's slip by Adam. They have the intention. The intelligence community has told you they intend to hit us in 6 months. They'll have that ability. So America, Joe Biden, you go out there and vote for Terry mccaul and Joe Biden after last night's rally. There was a, quote, rally. Let me show you a couple of pictures, put up by our friend Mac. Here is the CBS picture of the rally that the president did with Terry mcauliffe in Virginia last night. If you're watching on YouTube, you can see that picture. I don't see it yet, so maybe it's stuck in the ether. But it looks like a good crowd. You don't even think, wow, wow, the president may have more hustle than we think. Maybe he's really good at it. Then you pan out. There's the first picture. That's the CBS News picture. Then you pan out, and they've taken over one corner of one tiny park in Virginia across the river from The White House. And they basically rounded up the locals and shuffled them into maybe 300 people there. That 300 people Dwayne, do you think that's 300 people? I'm not sure that that's 300 people. But the president, though, is simply out to lunch on this stuff. Here he is, last night, talking about blend young and who has clearly got the Democrat scared to death of winning an upset that would be an earthquake in America. Cut number 17. Jesse look how he's closing his campaign. He's gone from banning a woman's right to choose to banning books written by a Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Prize winning author. Toni Morrison. So if you talk about love, by the way, which I just finished recently and he's talking about not banning books, but about allowing parents to know which books are being read in what their messages are beloved as a fine book for teenagers to read and I'm sure glad you can would agree with that. But if you have to start what you're attacking opponent is saying, then you're responding to attacks two days before an election with a weak and unpopular president in a tiny park with nobody in it. And that means Terry mcauliffe is sucking air because people don't like Joe Biden anymore. One other cut, by the way, cut number 18. This is arranged the most eyebrows from last night. Extremism.

chairperson after he beat Adams in eighteen hundred yeah and it's now at the Smithsonian and imagine these two kids I think one was like fourteen the other was eleven they're in their seventies right now in the Smithsonian wanted to verify the story of how this thing was found and the only thing they can think of is that there was a road that went by these railroad tracks in Massachusetts by the way your home state or David and they think maybe this box fell off a car or out of the back of a truck or something is they were maybe moving someplace so there was the box these guys found it in "You remember last week's topic last week's top musicals tougher live action musical that was a blind spot for me Anderson Iras realizing that I haven't and seen dominant musicals or movies also that many of the classic musicals do homework we were more here. Was that lead story. Oh West side story was seen by me last week well. Why don't you bring it up? When we're talking about the last week it would not make my top five? No it would not make my top five nineteen sixty one west side story by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins starring Natalie Wood Richard Bammer Russ Tamblyn Amblin Jordan Shaquille Risks and Rita Moreno adaptation of the nineteen th seven musical nominated for Eleven Oscars Anderson one ten of them out of eleven yeah. It's a great question. Maybe a loss like song number for two songs won best director best picture best supporting actor and actress actress Rita Moreno most ever for musical Anderson streaming on Amazon you guys if you want to check how is Roy for yourself. I wouldn't necessarily recommended sad to say for me. Anderson says well ninety four percent rotten tomatoes but you familiar with the film reviewer Pauline Kale sort sort of the first serious film reviewer. I guess if you WANNA make air quotes like Sh- Colin Kahl was the robbery for he was around she she was like for the New York Doc Times I think anyway she called frenzied. Hokum call the dialogue painfully old-fashioned mawkish and the dancing was a simpering simpering sickly romantic ballet. I don't know if I agree with all of that but it did not sweep me away. I was not swept away and we talked about our both of our number. One ends of was singing in the rain singing in the rain grabbed me. It took me and held me. I loved this one book. You shook me part. Why not like I was frightened but like it was like this is greasier buddy crazy up the overture? The opening scene has is like an overture. That's four fucking minutes long follow by endless shots of overhead New New York like I think they're helicopter shots like which probably was really technologically advanced and the day it today. It's torture. The homoerotic says was off the charts this. This is the movie ever seen including brokeback mountain including any movie with actual homosexuals is the gays move. You haven't seen poison assure all the songs you know Billy's first Hollywood kiss mnay zone a year a year ridge. I feel pretty galler as long as you know what I responded to him like Oh. This is the Aurea oh this is work. Am For all these songs. I the one thing I thought so oh. I didn't google this but Harrison Google this. Stop your head. Isn't there a song in sound movie and maybe it's a lot of songs. A lot of movies called so far yes. How do you solve a problem like Maria? Is that the song I'm thinking of. I've known it. How do you solve a problem like that? I thought because cares Maria. I'm like Oh. That's your the Sonko turns out. It doesn't not the song the fucking narrative is absurd. This is based on Romeo and Juliet. It is an absurd narrative. Do can't possibly genuinely like it really loved. This movie is all about to production which was impressive in the set pieces which are of a certain era you know. I guess if you love that classic Hollywood look than this is for you for Sally wasn't for me and yeah how about how hard time recommending it to everyone. I suppose this is the kind of movie you know you'll like if you already like it. Sorry I'm listening music and this is Kylie distracting for you but also rude and I'll give you that pretty rude. What was that stop so looking for that Manos Hatrick all right? What's that Sir also route yeah yeah you're right? It's rude. That's all you ought to say. I didn't love West side story well. Here's a movie I didn't love either but did bring me back and forth to remember one the my It's not one of my something that I enjoy quite a bit number of years ago between two ferns the movie between two ferns the movie Brian Familiar with us at all no it's on the old fuck flakes which I should also say with this streaming episode fucked flakes x will not be represented on my list at all you dumb fuck. How do you solve a problem like Maria from your sound of music okay? I don't call me a dumb fuck. I openly middle. I style week that it's been years since I've seen that movie so she settled down you just settle down between two ferns the movie you saw it. You don't fucking choice. This is an hour twenty minute movie. It feels about an hour and forty five hour forty eight is draft drafted by Scott Ackerman and not take anything away from Scott Alterman. I think that he set out to make a silly fun movie which they accomplished. They are not swinging for fences zero comedy special call between two FERNS. Luther Scott with a world was on the movie in Latino not a movie but you know what I'm asking you a question to me asking how'd that would be one who's seen it energize. Is this like would you a narrative. Is Jackass Movie Yeah Yeah. It is the movie according to you because you've I've had it on your list and I've given you shit I was expecting I always pay. I was hoping for that with this one because I don't know if you've seen any of the between two ferns original interviews that exactly Calvin acas Brian's making a face right now like it's way below me own odds on radar it should be and that's the best this thing about between two ferns. The movie is going to put that original show that on people's radar so between two is based on his youtube sensation kind of what put Zach Galifianakis on the map the first time I ever saw Zakho because I have no idea who the credit for this somebody sent me the youtube clip I believe on the old youtube of a it was a I got thirteen minutes absolut vodka commercial and and apparently the story goes Tim Eric and Heidegger and Alpha actress who I had never heard of before or given some money to make it production auction and had like three rules like they had to drink absolut vodka got there had to represent it and showcase it it numerous times in their little short movie that they made and they can never make fun of absolut vodka and that's all they had to go on and their money and they made the most absurd I I will post it. I will post careful eight threats fan fucking tastic. It is the most one of the most random sure it's an hipster territory but it's hilarious areas it and I know references to WHO's at Calvin ACAS was and it just goes on and on here's an example like they're all much the time he's wearing a robe and he's got like you know we're women get out of the shower and they put that all how in the head yesterday he's wearing that quite a bit and they're not Chak Uzi and enjoying themselves drinking absolut vodka and and exact starts talking about how it's too hot and Eric Oh maybe it's a little bit too I just freaks up fuck out and then directly and then just go back to drinking the absolut vodka and towards pouring one of those little airplane bottles and he's got a rating you actually see the the the hose coming from his taking the production value but just keep pouring and pouring and pouring in and close up of Imax. Hey it's there's something mesmerizing is Mariah. I fucking love. It and I'm doing an actual fluke fashion of this absolut vodka ad that's ridiculous because that's not so then from there I learned about between to firms which came out a year or two after that I believe it could be off my time doesn't it was Cillizza ferns and he was he interviewed some big names. CONAN O'Brien was on there here is a President Barack Obama was on there and it's it's unfamiliar it's kind of like imagine remember Chris Farley doing his interview thing on. SNL where it's like I remember RENGO apothecary. Remember when your in House that was awesome it's like that but he is so out of touch and unaware and not self aware his character in these interviews of these celebrities that he's insulting them and he's kind of coming at them really hard but he doesn't realize that that's not the point of interviewing people for their projects and it's really funny and it's it's very on brand for Zach before he was in the hangover and before he became a big thing and just kind of became the the the O. Fish buffoon which I don't really appreciate when I know that he's got this kind of biting humor which was showcased in between two so unfortunately between two friends the movie has a story behind it which is just it's it's tiresome. It's it's just I don't even know where the narrative slopped begins with him. Interviewing Matthew mcconaughey these winnings insult since very funny and then a flood happens and the two of them are like drowning owning and then he has to go on a road trip and we'll Ferrell's his boss and he lives off of cocaine and and getting clicks on the Internet and it's supposed to be very zany and wacky but interspersed throughout this entire hour and twenty two minute movie if you can call it that is him doing the interviews today modern day that he was doing like back in two thousand eight with new talent like Brie Larson and Oh who else does a uh Phil Henry's in there. I didn't realize I was Henry. Holy Shit like a better now I just I need to go back and watch it again see feel. I didn't realize I was bruce. Bruce Willis. He does similar I so it reminded me of that that series which I love so much and I I think it'll to open up that door for a lot of people who maybe didn't see the first interaction between two ferns so when it's doing the between two ferns things it's making making me laugh a lot when it's doing the in the in between stuff where they have to go on a road trip fly fine yeah the plot just up and I don't think they even put that much energy into it and let's let's do this. Just we got. We got the shit out of money from Netflix fuck. Let's let's have a good time and do it but if if anything it's going to put between two ferns back on apple gotta Yes Anderson Remember last week's topic good to hear another musical musical. You're a bit of a blind spot for me. Amazon nearly enough of them I saw it wouldn't have been my list because not live action but I quite enjoy David Letterman Paul Reuters also in it and he always he's ninefold and then Brian exceptionally route the best part is the actual credits with the out takes and you get to see these actual celebrities. I trying to hold it together when he's doing these these horrific ultimate their career and about who they are like he's talking to Paul Ryan and he's like you may be the most successful actor in Hollywood of keeping your jewelry Jelena's a secret and watching these actors try and Pau Jon Hamm. Try Not to just fucking lose it Larry. It's pretty good. It's pretty good. Sorry go ahead. What what Musical bestows Anderson do you remember last week's topic.
