Why Ron Howard Chose to Make New Hollywood Film 'Thirteen Lives'

"Did you choose to make a film like this? Because it really is almost unlike anything that I can think of. Well, thank you. And look, I've been blessed to have decades and decades in the visit and go back to a period that was still quite traditional where a Hollywood movie was a very unique thing. And. Audiences have shifted and changed and it's been very exciting for me and in a way energizing to recognize that change. Part of that is a kind of a globalization and an expectation of what a story can mean, what cinema can mean. And honesty and authenticity, particularly in a movie like this, it's based on real events, is become a standard and an expectation. I wanted to make sure that we push that to its most contemporary sort of limits. And really give audiences, you know, use modern technology and sinema to try to give audiences as much as possible a sense of what it was like to be there, which also means, you know, don't over dramatize. Don't ham it up. Now, in recent years, I've also been working on documentaries, and I have recognized through a lot of the documentary scenes that I've edited together and included in the films. The way people act under duress is often not as hyped up and dramatic as we tend to stage it in movies. And I tried to reflect that in this movie as well.

Why Colin Farrell Joined Ron Howard's New Blockbuster 'Thirteen Lives'

"Let me ask you the most basic question. What was the appeal to you in taking on a role like this? Well, one of the most heroic things about John Valentin and indeed many of the other people who were involved in this rescue was their humility. And was the apparent lack of the desire to be perceived as heroes. That they had, which is not just for show, talking to John and spending the hours on FaceTime that I spent with John. And researching all the guys that were involved, the humility was very, very clear and present. And plus, I was very humbled by the magnitude of the story by all the things that pooh was spoken about by the emotional and psychological and cultural importance of what was happening in real time in Thailand and how the Thai people came together. And also to be an actor to be somebody who involves oneself in the artifice of make believe and the attempt in trying to present it as a reality to portray these men of incredible strength and bravery was almost embarrassing. I couldn't be further from the kind of steel that they lived in and that they used and the kinds of psychological strength that they have that they leaned into to save these boys. So all those reasons, and look, it was a great script. It's a beautiful story. I wanted to work with Ron harrod. I'd loved his film since splash and parenthood and what have you. So it was ultimately as much of a no brainer as they ever speak about, you know?

'Thirteen Lives' Star Colin Farrell on the 2018 Events in Thailand

"We're all living in the same world. And however we feel about the world we're living in, we must recognize the existence of separation and division, which is more prominent now than any of the years I can remember as a 46 year old man. So to have a story that isn't Hollywood eyes, that wasn't created from the imagination of somebody that wants to present a more beautiful world. But was actually for moments in time in Thailand and globally for two weeks in 2018, a beautiful moment, albeit a scary moment to be a human being because the world's attention was focused on the dire need of these 13 people, 12 of which were young kids and one adult. It was an extraordinary thing to see everyone come together. And it just proved in a very practical way that we are at our best when we're considering the well-being of each other.

"Did a junket for the film 13 lives directed by Ron Howard, one of the stars Colin Farrell and others were my first interview. We're going to play that for you right now. My name is Eric metaxas. I'm the host of the Eric metaxas show. I think pretty obvious. Good to see all of you. And I've got some basic questions. I want you to pay close attention. These are going to be tough, hard hitting journalistic questions. Now, pooh, is that your name? My name, yes, sir. What was your relationship to the are you are you tied? That's my first time, yes. I thought so. What was your relationship to this story as it was unfolding in real time? In other words, while this is happening in Thailand, the whole world's paying attention. But as somebody who is tie, what were you thinking at the time? Obviously you weren't thinking you're going to be in a film about this in a few years or did that cross your mind? No. I think you answered already. It's the fact that I am tying. And this is a very cultural thing. We are a people that love to help one another. And when this situation happened, this is what we would do. I wanted to help. But like I mentioned before, I don't know how to dive. I could go up and cook for them because I do have a restaurant. I would take the time out to do that. But there were a lot of people there already, so it's best I say out of the way. So like many others, we just keep up with the news. And wish her the best. And also the best. It was a very it made you closer to your friends and your family and your loved ones because like I said also I have four kids and if one of my kids was sucking there at the time, lord, I don't know what I would do. Why the Uvalde Police Couldn't Have Prevented School Shooting

"If a person with an AR-15 is in a room of children, these children are not blocked by any kind of ballistic barrier. More than likely they're huddled in a corner as they're trained in one portion of the room. He standing and shooting hundreds of rounds into teachers and children in two classrooms, unobstructed. This has occurred before police ever arrived at the door or the hallway. I'm not the smartest man in the world. But there's a possibility and I'll tell you why the investigation believes this as well, that there's a possibility that no matter what the police responds was, at least 99% of the children that were in the room could have been completely murdered before cops ever showed up to the scene.

The Mis Diagnosis of the Uvalde Response

"It appears that you've all the response from the beginning was misdiagnosed as a barricaded subject for whatever reason. And they treated it like a barricaded subject to the T from start to finish. Now that we go back in hindsight with the information we have, we realize that this was an active shooter situation should have been treated as an active shooter situation. So why people are criticizing the response as if they are treated like an active shooter situation and not doing active suit a protocol is beyond me. All you have to do is say they misdiagnosed a thing from the beginning. So everything that they did was wrong. You can't say that, oh, this is wrong. They got shields and they should have went in this time that should have went in this time that should have went in this time without acknowledging that not one person on the scene, not one commander, not one officer, is perceiving this to be an active shooter.

Which in hindsight I agree with, they asked him the question, you had your DPS deputies, your DPS troopers there. Why didn't you guys go in? John Zmirak and Eric Reflect on the Iraq Invasion

"There are certain things you can't make up. I mean, I want to frame this again for people who aren't paying attention because maybe they're not, they're not tracking, I was for the Iraq invasion back when. You were against it. And I remember talking to you and not understanding, I thought, aren't all conservatives for this isn't Saddam Hussein, a monster. And by the way, of course, he was a truly evil monster. There's no doubt about that. But it didn't occur to me at the time that there are reasons not to attack Saddam Hussein and so on and so forth. So I was for it. All these years later, thanks to not just John's mirac, but Donald Trump, we have had a reevaluation. And I think that people now realize not only was it wrong, but it was a disaster on many levels. And then we start understanding that all the people who got us into the many messages in which we are today also got us into the mess of the Iraq War. It's the neocons. It's not magga people. It's not people who want to put America first. It's globalists. It is really tremendously wicked. And so here you have George Bush, do the ultimate Freudian slips of all time. So wonderful. It's the sort of thing that Will Ferrell would make up on SNL or something. But no, no, this actually happened. It's so great. I mean, the underlying reality is grotesque. We are, we killed between 507 100,000 civilians in our invasion of Iraq, which was based on false intelligence and made up junk intelligence that the neocons were shoving past the FBI and putting straight into The White House. There were hundreds of experts saying there are no weapons of mass destruction. The UN inspector said there are no weapons of mass destruction. Nobody had any real evidence of weapons of mass distraction. Colin Powell gets goes in front of the UN with doctored photos that don't represent what he says they are. Condoleezza Rice says, we don't want the next smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud in Manhattan. They use our trauma over 9 11 to make us think that Saddam Hussein is building nukes and is going to smuggle them into America. They make us think he was involved in 9 11, which he wasn't. They make us think he was getting uranium, which he couldn't. I mean, it was just this for rago of lies. And I guess Eric, you're a nicer person, maybe because you grew up in Connecticut, you didn't think your own political leaders of your own party were lying to you to get back. No, of course I

"Nick suryana than i do. Cheap toilet paper. I am passing. But i if i had do 401 gun to my head. I'd take atlanta. Because i think they're going to score this year. I will say philadelphia. Kept four tight ends. I like that. Move for jalen hurts. I liked move a lot because readers actually had a very good camp and devante smith their offensive. Weapons are better than i think. We think the play is philly. I'd pass your thought the lines three and a half at fan duel right now. The plays philly because half point because of the hook atlanta me. Maybe the most interesting team in the nfc. Because matt ryan is so undervalued. Right now i bet matt ryan to lead the league in touchdown receptions at thirty to one kyle pits calvin really offensive genius in arthur smith emphasis on that side of the ball. You know they're going to light it up. I also think the falcons given what the saints have to go through given what. The panthers are seeing potential regression from the team. That wins the superbowl. The falcons are an interesting flyer to meet a win. that division. Definitely like the falcons over seven and a half wins on this game on this game. I usually the eagles are the side. Because of the hook to pass from me zillow's stop here. I've been pretty damn good so far. Can we acknowledge that no. It's great and really all counts right now too. I would submit to you. I'm almost a sharp. I'm like an hour away of good picks from being surface. A little bigger achilles heel you are almost a sharp and potentially gets in the way of you becoming a sharp. I know that's my life story. Stay on the board. Because i like both these teams. I would go chargers minus one at washington. I pick washington to win the division. I think they're defensive. Front is the best in the league since the niners defensive front a couple years ago. Here's why here's my concerns. I think it's an under bet. The chargers oh lines revamped. But it's their first game. They didn't because they have a young mcveigh prodigy. They didn't play a lot of starters. This is an awful opening defensive line assignment for a new offense of line creating chemistry. This deal line is filthy. But i think the charters are undervalued. So i i think i charge is my bet here but i do think it's going to be a a spotty game. Herbert makes plays second half they win. But it has a chance to be a low scoring ugly game despite all the offensive firepower on both sides your thoughts so the chargers where the team that we talked about today the most on favorites with me and professional better simon hunter and look simon hunter keys making a ridiculous amount of money betting on football. We love week one home. Underdogs washington is in that knicks. So we're talking about picks that will make us uncomfortable. Washington is one of those picks. But i love the charters. I love the chargers over nine. I bet the chargers aggressively at longer than thirty three to one odds to win the super bowl I'd take a flyer on them. Sixteen to one at fan the win the confidence to win the conference. An plus four fifty to win the division. I would also say there's wise guys are good about washington this game because they are the home underdog because they have a potentially historic rate defensive line and then i would say after the chargers lose this game. Bet the chargers forty to one or better to win the super bowl because their odds will drop after this game. Are you ready to amp up the excitement every college football saturday this year. That are intriguing to you. The two most intriguing things to me is number. One The reseeding and Colin. I've been a proponent of this for ten twelve years now that the West has been so much better than the East I always felt like they should receive the play offs or you know that go by east and West. Just go by the best records and their talk is that they're considering doing that. That is something that was on the survey when they're asking the executives about and I just talked to somebody earlier and he said this is something. They're really considering doesn't mean it's definitely going to happen but it is something within discussions. Colin that could do is set up. A potential Clippers Lakers final not conference by all final. Now look if you at the standings right now the clippers would be on the side with Milwaukee so they'd have to go through the bucks to get to the Lakers but This could really be great and look if they start in late July. They're going to be competing with the NFL. So you're going to need much sizzle and possesses you can get to compete with football so I think receding it would do it. The second thing is the play in tournament and a lot of the thinking behind. That is that you give superstars are household. Names like Zaylon and Damian Lillard. Maybe even a Bradley bill the chance to get in the playoffs. And if you can get Zion in the playoffs then that creates even more buzz again as you have to compete with the NFL by the way when you talk to individual players where are they at on returning. What's the ones? I've talked to feel better about a late June late July return even though you know it seems like hey if you get started early. June y late July but the players like that because as much as they may be working out individually getting their shots up now that they've been able to go into the facilities. They've told me that what's most important is five or five to get in basketball shape. You have got to play several weeks of five or five. Typically all that happens in training camp. A lot of that usually happens in the summer guys to Las Vegas. Ucla different places sometimes New York and play five or fly to really get in that shape. They haven't been able to do that. And if they don't get enough five or five. That's when the injuries the Achilles the knees things like that aren't increased risk for injury so they WANNA get several weeks of five on five play in addition to a training camp and so. That's why I'm told that late June is a better start dating their mind. Then mid June or July yeah. I don't think I've talked to you about this. So the Michael. Jordan documentary was all sorts of fun but it did sort of it. Teach me time but amplified what I knew. I did learn a ton about Michael Jordan's mom which is how formidable is in was she. I mean she's really a force in his life. But you know when I look at the documentary and I see the polls that come out. And it's like Michael's way better than Lebron and I think to myself man if I'm Lebron. I'm sitting there thinking. I WanNa play some basketball. I'm tired of hearing that. What are you making the fallout? Jordan's amplified status? It seems to have grown over the last month. Well the collar you know. I've stated numerous times. I believe Michael Jordan is the goat but there is no doubt that this documentary one over a lot of millennials who only heard about him from me and from you and saw videos on Youtube now getting the full ten hours by hind the scenes. How Competitive. He was the things he had to overcome a lot of. Lineas who favored Lebron have now slid over to Jordan? We saw Jamaran the great rookie. Say I was always. Lebron is the go but now each switched his mind and he and Lebron. Lebron can't win this comparison right now especially and I think he should focus. Oh and just beating by beating Jaanus and competing with the players now if he focuses on that and wins then maybe you stay in the conversation with Jordan but right now there's too much focus on Michael. We saw that poll. Espn where seventy some odd percent of people said Jordan was Colin. Here's how bias things are right now. Lebron they the people voted that they would rather Jordan. That Jordan is the better passer and Jordan. They would trust him to pass the ball. More they Jordan has had more of an impact off the court. Those are three things clearly in Lebron's favor and yet don't win against him so it shows you right now. Everybody is just so caught up in Michael Jordan and I think Lebron has to make sure don't get caught up. Don't make any more statements about I'm chasing that ghost and I'm the greatest player in the world. I've talked to Michael in. I don't know how recently talked with Lebron. They don't talk very often but I know in the past you know we know how competitive Michael is and he. I'm sure was to be known as the go. He's never said that to me but I'm sure he wants to. But he is emphasized that when when his discussions with Lebron in the past he's been like look. Don't get caught up in the competition because we can never play on the court so neither of US can win that. Just just do what you have to do on the court beat the best you can be and let everything else. Take care of itself and I think that's the approach Brian Take. Don't get caught up in this comparison because right now especially. You can't win by the way so your daughter a magnum cum laude at Michigan. Now what is your major? What is she going to do in life? What you WANNA do. She wants to be in production television production so she is looking for a job Fox sports one. She's interested in that and my other daughter. Her twin is in psychology. Also summa cum laude from Penn University of Pennsylvania. Lowered those are they. They make a brother look good. Know what this I you know not carried well now you you know you done well. That pen and Michigan. Yeah that's pretty good yeah Gracie man and you end Rob Parker on Fox. Sports Radio's odd couple on radio. Just outrageously funny broussard's having to constantly steer Parker back into the middle of the road off the weeds. Good Buddy all right you know. It is what Chris said is interesting though millennials are into Mj and if you watched it MJ's pretty rough. We tend to think the young people in America. There's so much different than their mothers and their fathers. No they're not we all like the same things. We all WanNa have a good time. We want to be mostly safe. We'll take some risks but we're mostly about family. We have some good friends but not as many as we always claim and that people love they want to be loved. They're interested but they want to be seen as interesting. They want to connect with people but they want their own space. This idea that millennials. Oh this generation of millennials. They see the world pretty much like we do now. There were a little more adaptable. They may not want to work at a corporation and get a gold watch for thirty years. But you're gonNA find that millennials liked Michael for the same reason I like Michael. He worked really hard loved his parents. He had overcome some stuff. He was kind of tough. But in the end way hugged Phil Jackson. The ways crying on the floor you know. We saw him get super emotional like man. He loves stuff. He loved basketball. He loved his parents. He loved Phil Jackson. That's that that moves across generation to generation the generation. I I listen to people all the time and oh the young kids and the young generation. My kids want the same stuff I did. They WANNA have friends but they want their space they WANNA be right but they're not always right there just like that. Well you raise them. I know is pretty similar. They're they're not dissimilar to me. They Michael Jordan works for any work. Hard it's not easy hopefully have cool parents and friends. You get some pushback but winning his fun but it's hard it's hard but it's fun. That's what Michael showed us our threes coming up one more heard the heard streams twenty four hours a day seven days a week within the iheartradio. App. Search her to listen live or on demand. Goulet that made me mad about pro football focus they love. They love Baker Mayfield. I'm fine with Bake. Oh and they slighted Russell Wilson. They did what? Yeah the all decade team with Russell Wilson. Was that it I I. I think you've been mad at them more than once but it never lasts long. But I'm happy again because they give me football data and that's what I like. Bruce Grabowski played in the NFL for over a decade and he is a senior analyst with pro football focus. "Never GonNa be what he was with the steelers. That's fine. If you WANNA move off of him I don't I honestly I don't think about money. I honestly don't Douglas. It's going to do a great job. Managing the salary cap and getting talent. In my opinion he has to deal with a guy who it sounds to me and look to me wants to be somewhere else and wants to spend the prime of his career competing for a super bowl and he knows that the jets are probably a couple of years away from having a chance to compete for Super Bowl. So you just gotta you've gotTa try to make this work because Jamal Adams should be part of the solution not part of the not part of some trading for picks in the future. Are you shocked? Were still over a year into the Dak Prescott Negotiations Jerry's paid seemingly everybody will are you. You don't to me Colin. This is one of those deals where we know far too much about this in my opinion and we think about it far too much. What are the real reasons why we talk and we and we right and we investigate we look into contract situation? We have to ask ourselves as the new media this question. Why do we do this? Is there any chance this year that that Prescott is not going to be the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys? I suppose there's some chance one percent. Maybe he's playing quarterback for the cowboys to me. That's show up at the start of the season and he'll play now could he continue on the kirk cousins path. He might and if I were him I think. Kirk cousins has been A real beacon of light for all these quarterbacks who say well I'm stuck here I'll never be able to be a free agent part B. for me. Try to figure out why DAK PRESCOTT WOULD WANNA leave Dallas cowboys. But anyway I the the whole thing about about Prescott. It really kind of bores me to tears. Because he's going to play quarterback for them this year. Everything else I just think is is just a bunch of talk and prattle what are your sources tell you about Jarret Stidham Rodney Vich says. I'm not sure he'll start this year. Do you have insight on what's really going on there. I mean Brady to Brian. Hoyer doesn't seem ideal. What is your guess what happens? My guess is that there's something to what you think but it really depends on how much practice they all get if bill belichick looks that his quarterback situation. Let's stay in normal training camp and the Patriots report whenever it is let's say July thirtieth and you've got six weeks of practice before the start of it is exactly what's going to happen in Miami. If you know to attack of a lower is better in those six weeks or extremely close And he and he's healthy Bryant floor is playing to a ton of aloha. It's the same way in New England. Belichick doesn't care what you or I or anybody thinks you're robbing of it. Whoever's the best guy in training camp assuming they have a normal one is gonNA play if they have a to training camp or you know they report on August twenty fifth and they say hey you gotta play on September Thirteen? Obviously the lead dog in that pack is almost certainly going to be hoyer because been around forever but I think Brian Hoyer playing in September would be a temporary fix unless he you know unless he discovered the Fountain of Youth or something surprised at all by the Antonio Brown stories in Seattle I was. I was surprised if bit were you. I think it's all fairly meaningless Colin because I would be extremely surprised if Antonio Brown it. Let's say that he works out. Some team makes a deal with him. He's still going to get a significant suspension from the NFL. And so if you're signing Antonio Brown you have to believe two things number one. He's his life around. Maybe has I haven't seen it but maybe you have to believe that it number two. You have to believe that I'm December first. You're really gonNA need him. Seattle maybe looks at it. Seattle's not afraid of anything you know John Schneider and Pete Carroll. They're not afraid of anything so I could see a team that says we want Antonio Brown in the impact. He could make on us in January. I could see them. Say we don't really care if he's suspended for the first eight or ten weeks of the season we need him for the last four or five weeks of the season. So then we get tuned up for the offs. Certainly make that argument especially in that division where it may come down to a late season probably will come down to a late season game with the niners the Rams Arizona and Seattle Peter King on Memorial Day. Peter thanks for taking time for our show today. Thank you take care. All Right Chris. Broussard's around the corner some thoughts on the NBA are they going to get this thing underway. And you're back on track, and this is the answer. Don't get it where Colin was right. Thank you, David spade a Tom. Brady's erosion has been overstated. "It never made any sense and Troy Vincent to his credit. This is what great leaders do acknowledged. Yeah. I totally whiffed on that. Where Colin was wrong, I've always said Peyton. Manning's brand is relatable Oreos mid size sedans Tom Brady. He's a little more aspirational, but yesterday I was wrong. It was Tom Brady, that was relatable. He couldn't golf. He split his pants. He didn't understand golf drops. He seemed completely frustrated. He didn't know or his ball was. The shot tracer stopped following you and Peyton, manning by the way look like the country club guy. He was just a great Golfer Funny Glib Amazing Brady was unbelievably relatable. Missing was a bud light. And a Marlboro. Iwo He was Mr. Normal Golf Guide America totally. flummoxed by a great sport, but a difficult one where Colin was right was always worried about the NBA starting back up. It is a social media driven sport. They often react to social media. overreact. Story comes out yesterday. They may not start until they're just working on starting. Late July. Folks they got seven different proposals. Get it together. These are the youngest most conditioned athletes statistically safe. Players are ready to go now, Michelle Roberts. And Adam silver there could be a contentious relationship there. She's on her way out. Representing players I in I'm not saying it's going to be perfect, but this is like the did they realize NASCAR STARTING UFC starting boxing starting. Golf starting mean by the way. Players were golf yesterday all sitting next to each other and talk and next to each other it's this is what I worried about too many stars, too many opinions too many shafts. Get it together, NBA where Colin was raw i. always said the Chicago Bulls of the greatest basketball team in the ninety S I've ever seen and the reason. They weren't the greatest shooters the best ball handlers they pop. They were tough guys I thought. Good Lord Scottie, Pippen and grant all up in their feelings. I thought modern NBA. Players were sensitive Scottie Pippen's apparently livid about Michael Jordan's documentary and Horace. Grant freaked out last week. In the documentary and Isaiah Thomas is defending himself and. Michael has played in twenty years at documentary. It was remarkable to watch. All these tough dudes get incredibly sensitive because Scotty pippin doesn't like the way is portrayed. What. As irreplaceable on the Bulls Michael Jordan said he can't even mention my name without Scottie Pippen. Scotty! You Buried Scotty Michael Jordan! Compliment anybody. He said you're the most important basketball person his life and he learned so much from you. Me I've never heard Michael's anybody. So I guess. The Bulls were as tough as I thought where Colin was right, but it also said Steph Curry's the most underrated player and person in my life in the NBA. Totally gets it incredibly selfless new story this weekend. He's recruiting Jaanus. This would be the second time he is bringing in a superior player. Slash physical presence to the team. I'm just not sure. I'm just not sure how many professional athletes would do that. It's going to mean less stardom. You don't when he brought in Kevin Durant. It did not help Steph curry shoe. Deal it. It muddied the waters if they said it was not good for the shoe deal for Steph Curry, this is why he continues to be so underrated as an American iconic superstar, he understands the value of winning of being a great teammate of being on television in May in June. All athletes. This is how it is done. Don't worry about getting your shots I mean further record. He brought Katie in and wanted Katie to stay. It was K. D. who struggled with the relationship and not getting the love from Bay area fans. I just love everything about Steph Curry where Colin was raw. John Clayton is reporting that Russell. Wilson Wants Antonio. Brown is a seahawk. Just when I thought Russell Wilson was perfect, he wants Antonio Brown. Who is selfish, odd self absorbed. If you can't work in New England and Pittsburgh and those are about as formidable as football cultures in America. I mean. The Rooney Family I. If you're struggling to get it to work there, I. "By a great sport, but a difficult one where Colin was right was always worried about the NBA starting back up. It's.

"Takes notice very quickly with Jimmy. Garoppolo. There was buzz in New England. This this is the next Tom Brady. That's why Brady wanted him out. So jarret Stidham gets drafted fourth round in New England. They've got him in camp all year. Bill Ballot Check Camp Exhibition Game Cece a thousand practices, writer, a hundred or how many practices they have. Yet, check wanted Brady back. Old Tom Brady expensive Tom Brady ballot check wanted him back. A story comes out today that been keep hearing on Jarrett Stidham unbelievable and I'm like. So ballot check was willing. Reportedly, move off Brady. Two years ago, for Garoppolo and Brady was coming off a super bowl winning season Bella. Check was ready to move off. Brady off his worst season in years older less effective. Brady bill wanted him back and this is not a shot at Jarrett stidham. But I keep hearing how great he is and I'm like an all these practices. He's been there now. How many months Bill Belichick hasn't gone? Wow, he did for Garoppolo. Rob. Ninkovic Vich played for seven years super. Smart guy very good football player Vera, very Bella Check Ian Real understanding of the football world. says. He thinks Brian Hoyer will start this year at quarterback. Not Jarrett Stidham. What? I got into Brian Hoyer. If you walk into this room I, wouldn't know what he looks like Brian how. Are you going to tell me of Justin fields of Ohio State got drafted last year or Trevor, Lawrence or Cuyler, Murray or Lamar Jackson. A Russell Wilson was drafted. Brian Hoyer would beat him out. Hell, you'd know four practices in I. Got Myself a star. And this is why Brady is going to win this divorce. Brady's GonNa have great weapons of fun head coach warm. Weather Gronk is back and Tampa's biggest problem. Right tackle. They solved it in the draft. This whole thing I know we love our football coaches, but bill ballot check in Cleveland went thirty, six and forty four and anyone to New England, before Brady started and was five and thirteen. I know I know I know I know there's the Matt Castle season, so let's deep dive on that. Here is Tom Brady's numbers. The year before he got her. Sixteen No! Seventy percent completion rate almost. Three hundred yards a game. Fifty eight picks hundred seventeen passer rating sixty to no regular season. The next year with the same players. Matt Cassel Nice Guy Blown out three times ten and five. To one hundred thirty yards. twenty-one TD's eleven picks a passer rating under ninety. Oh Bella checks such a great coach. I mean it's. This is not a shot at Matt Cassel. It shows you how great and influential and transformative Brady's talent is. Nobody would think you could just replace Michael. Jordan called the goat. Why are we so sure it's going to be so easy to replace the goat in football Does everybody get this. The jets are better. The dolphins are way better. Buffalo has been good for two years. They'll be better. They added Stefan bigs. Brady is surrounding himself with significantly better players. New England doesn't have a single pro bowl level player on offense, not one. I'm not even sure if they'll have by the end of the year depending on their quarterback efficiency. If, they'll have a pro bowl running back tight end or wide receiver in their division. And? You just think they're gonNA fly through it because bill smart. Folks Bobby Knight the minute. He thought his system mattered more than recruits. It was over. Gregg Popovich the minute he didn't by Nikolai. It was about the system it was over. Listen I love my football coaches, too. But Tom Coughlin when he li-. Everybody I talked to wants to play in a according to another story He is all in on Disneyworld. I don't get this. Day One on this I, don't get it. The Lakers are the second oldest roster I believe in the NBA. There's going to be no help in free agency. It's a bad free agent class. There's GonNa be no help in this draft. And frankly the caps go down. The Lakers don't want to blow through the CAP and get the luxury tax penalty. I. Don't understand any argument that Lebron James wants to shut it down. I would argue. That post virus, the people who will benefit and this will be veteran players who have homes and workout facilities and are in the best shape. You see what Russell Wilson's doing with this virus. That's what Sam Darnold perhaps his doing with this virus so I. Don't get the arguments that Lebron doesn't WanNa season I think he wants it more than anybody where Colin was right. I've said joy is my witness. I. Don't buy Jarret Stidham necessarily but I think new. England's at a total reboot. And Andy Dalton. No Teddy Bridgewater. NOPE, Cam. Nope, this is all playing into what I. Believe is true. They let go of their kicker, their best defensive playmaking linebackers. They have decided we're gonNA. Keep Stefan Gilmore and mostly let talented guys go. They didn't address address in a in a dynamic draft. They didn't address it. They're gonNA. Go and Jarrett Stidham and what they're telling you is. We're GONNA reboot. See how this works and Gosh Darn it. We went six and ten. We've got the number. Nine pick, and a bunch of draft picks to move up and cap space. I've never thought this year. I've never taken the report seriously on. You know. On the Cam Newton's and the Jameson James Winstons, going to New England. Mode and once again they passed an Andy Dalton where Colin was wrong. Three top fifteen highschool stars are now going to the G. League. Zion showed kids how the College Basketball Platform Works, I think the NBA is making a mistake. "You didn't even have one after trite Sunday free of cocktails Mondays. A different story reflects no. That's right contemplative state. I need good Bourbon. You get through it all right. Colin Right Colin wrong. I make him a lot of mistakes throughout the course of a week. And let me Call myself out a few times here. We go where Colin was right then. People love super teams. This has been my mantra twenty years when I first got my job at the other place. I remember one of my first days. I said in all these guys say they love underdogs one and she'll watch him. The even snarky twitter last night fell in love with Michael Jordan. There's a reason we like the avengers. There's a reason people go to coachella. We like when you get stars altogether and they're fascinating and you get the glamour and the Great and the egos. It's fun. Hard work is great. I don't WanNa Watch it. I WANNA watch stardom and Glamour in the thirty for thirty hat. All that where Colin was raw. I love to. I think he's great. But now Peter King Albert Beer and Peter Schrager all saying he could fall in the draft. Listen We know the injury thing? I still contend. He's a rare talent and I would roll the dice on the injury. If I'm like a Miami and I've got thirteen draft two quarterbacks or a chargers where I've got a roster that could withstand a pick that doesn't pan out but you don't listen to Wunderlich score was lower than you love. It's not I mean you know Phil Simms had a bad one. It's not the end of the world. Everything is something but the stories this morning. He's dropping a little where Colin was right. Carolina Sign Christian. Mccaffrey to a monster deal last week. And did you hear what Matt Rule said his quotes? Were very telling we want football guy. I focused guy true leader guy. It didn't have to say that's like when Tom Brady left. New England he said Tampa showed him warmth Who was he taking a shot at Bella? Check? The reality is cam is what I thought. He was talented but a lot of drama and distracted and Matt Rule made a point of saying last week in his way where Colin was raw. Oh bj's not going to Minnesota now. My sources told me the same thing. But I did get very excited for about two hours because I've been told Oh. Bj is putting on a good face but Cleveland's not worry wants to be. Ideally but I gotta take a wrong here because I went crazy for about fifteen minutes to start my show and I do think Minnesota's good fit for OB J. four the vikings and actually benefits Baker in the browns they can get more focused on all the elements they already have. How many mouths do you want Baker Mayfield to have to feed? But I'll take a wrong on that where Colin was right and Kelly Hall of fame quarterback said last week in a quote he said. I watch all these young quarterbacks the AFC and it reminds me of the days when it was me and all the legends Marino and me and all going up against Elway and thank you Jim Kelly again. We romanticize the past there has never been a time in my life. Were fewer teams had bad quarterbacks. And more team had franchise quarterbacks and they're different Lamarque and run and throw Patrick's got a great arm. Sodas Aaron cuyler Murray Russell. Wilson's a little smaller than you'd like all shapes and sizes big Ben's old big gets hurt but he's he's great and Brady's old not mobile but he's accurate. We're getting so many different variations. This is the gold made quarterbacks this now I've been watching since nineteen seventy two. This is the best. The quarterback position has ever been in my life right now in Jim. Kelly acknowledged it where Colin was raw. We're all GONNA take a collective wrong on this that we always think. Lebron James is looking at Michael and he's Guy Michael and his head. But that's funny the producers of this now acknowledging that Michael Jordan was willing to do this documentary after Lebron James came back to beat the warriors and was holding a trophy in Cleveland. And people started talking about you know. Lebron may be better than Michael Jordan and suddenly. What do you know Michael was like you know those old tapes I said You could never on? You'll get and run them now. Don't get yourself Michael's like the rest of us. He's human he doesn't want his legacy dip in. It's not good for shoe. Brand is not good for him right. We're all wrong on that. One where Colin was right kirk cousins. This Week said quote. I wouldn't mind playing with no fans if we have to. I'd welcome because no fans equals less pressure in no critics inadvertently kirk cousins acknowledged. What we've been saying is he doesn't like the pressure I mean. How in the world does he go? Nine on Monday night football he wins sixty five percent of his games and Monday night. Football is not flex scheduling. It's not like Sunday night. Football where you? If you were on Sunday night football you could say yeah. You always get in the big marquee games against the best teams on Monday night football. He's been a favorite in Las Multiple Times humane to acknowledge it but the greats. Don't WanNa play in an empty stadium. Lebron like I won't.

But Oh my talk sports on TV it's fun. happened. Here's it's crazy about it. We all know the ending. This is like rocky a almost so rockefeller went out right, but we all know the ending, and it's still good. Yeah, no, I mean titanic. The boat sank. I still thought the movie was great and I wanted five times. Yearly Oh guy. Really. Tell you tell a great story. I can no Apollo Tom Hanks to top ten. Moby to me I know they got back. Could get it I bet the storytelling was better with the Little Brown. That was that was one thing They Jerry Krause Guy. The Jerry Went WanNa lay appliances at all. Follow time all time line, and how about the the French audio guy for the autograph right? Take your shot big Boy Jordan. Just look at it like what what? But here's the here's the other part is Jordan ever look unkempt Oh God oh, God. No, he is, he is. Becky ironed his undershorts. He there's never been a pro athlete close. He walked. He is like you ever go to a store and there's like a model and they put the clothes on. It looks great, and then you get home and you're like I. Don't look good in that shirt. As that Mannequin did Mike's like perfect he he's tall. Everything drapes off Michael. He should have been a runway model. Everything drapes off him. Perfectly, we gotta go doug. GOTTLIEB coming up next all you Patriot haters. Oh, you're not going to like this at all. You are not going to like this at all third. Ahmad Rashad next our top next hour. Colin Right Colin wrong so this is very interesting so Peter. King very well connected guy. And his mock draft, two things jump out. He has a mock draft eight number one. He's got. Miami number three pick. Drafting just in Herbert from Oregon I like Justin. Her I've said before. I don't think Justin Herbert and Joe Borough. Are that different? You know borough played with a lot better, offensive or well, what happens just say that and better defense and better players but I think the weaknesses of Herbert you can correct and the strengths his arm and size. You can't teach so I I like her more than everybody else. He's not perfect, but I think again you can correct those mistakes. And what do you know? He's got to. Go to the Patriots. The Patriots make a trade with San Francisco and move up. Remember the Shanahan. Family and Bella check. Get along. Bill has great respect for Mike. Shanahan and Kyle another story today from Adam Schefter the niners, so Peter King and Schefter both have this San Francisco is open to dealing both first round picks. Remember when bill did the niners joy a little solid? Think. Maybe they do a little solid back. That's how the League works. That's how the League works. That's how business works. That's why you go golfing. If somebody asked you to go golfing, even if you hate golfing, you go golfing. That deals. Get closed on a golf course. So Peters Connected Jarret Stidham A. Era could be over. But this is the other thing. There's this league. Is Not about drafting a quarterback number one and dominating the league. This league is about. Lots of great quarterbacks falling in the draft to better coaches Lamar Jackson. Fell to the really well run smartly coached Ravens, lot of bad quarterback teams passed on him. Browns passed on Carson Wentz Dan Marino dropped in the draft to hall of Famer Don Shula, Aaron Rodgers dropped in the draft to a really good roster. And a patient team that allowed him to grow the Green Bay. Packers Russell Wilson, drops. To Carol and Bella check gets Brady in the six this league. They're very few taken number one and dominate the league. It doesn't work that way. This league is taking advantage of badge, em's and lousy owners and marginal scouting staffs, so you look at right now in the NFL look at the quarterbacks dominating Russell Wilson. Went to the Third Patrick Mahomes ten teams passed on him, Lamar Jackson and to the first round to Shawn Watson. Chicago took. Ryan Tannehill Aaron Rodgers dropped. The rich get richer not only in football, but often in life they make better decisions, and this league is littered. You look at the teams that are bad in this league ever noticed Jacksonville and Cleveland. The jets are always drafting high. It feels like. You know Miami's always got good pick. Why is that now? I think they I think they turned it around with Brian Flora's but. Very interesting to to the Patriots with today's health concerns more important than ever take care of your body em drive, elite, immune support testosterone support go to dry for men. Dot Com calling right Colin wrong. One of the things that. I've been fighting for years. This used to be when I when I took a job. In Radio, I said this and people hated it. Then I went to ESPN and said it for ten years, and people hated it now. I think people don't push back because they all know, it's right and they're just tired of me. Nobody does documentaries on the seventy Seattle Sonics. Nobody does national documentaries on the twenty eleven, mavs or last year's raptors or the Rip Hamilton Pistons. We do documentaries on dynasties. They're just more interesting. I don't care how you accumulate talent in the College Game Alabama's got a better coach and has better facilities, and they get all the stars in Highschool and good for them. Why don't we hold it against Alabama? Why don't we hold it? Against the Yankees that in a sport with no salary cap they can just go out and buy Garrett Cole and nobody else can get him. They could go by Roger Clements. Nobody else could afford him C. Sabathia didn't WanNa go to the Yankees. They paid him twenty million more a year than anybody else would. Why don't we hold it against the Yankees or Alabama football? We don't hold it against any. We don't hold it against Kentucky basketball or Duke, but for some reason in the NBA, if star players WanNa play with other star players. That's as row at the game. It's nonsense. Underdogs are boring and hard. Working small-market teams stink. I Like Stars cobbled together? They're not.
