"That i felt like i could grab onto. A little better is too long. And i think this is common with stage adaptations because those plays have intermissions and they're just designed in people understand that it's a longer experience so toward the end. I was getting a little weary but overall i had a really good time and this movie is one. That was heavily hyped. And that's been kind of a bust at the box office so i don't know why people maybe it's because linneman has this weird You know reputation or whatever. But i mean if you like musicals this is this is a very classic style musical which to me was a positive thing about it sure. Yeah i liked this movie a lot when it was going big like and that's the thing that to me was a little bit of a disappointment about it is that you know especially coming off like crazy. Rich asians like i thought it would be even bigger than it was. It got big at times but then there's a lot of more just kind of slowed down more just normal stage production kind of moments in it But whenever he got big. It was a lot of fun for sure. Yeah i mean that that ninety six thousand the number. I mean that's amazing. That's that's one of my top movie moments for the year. Surely absolutely our number seven for me. This is where i go off the rails and people stop listening. Sonic the hedgehog again. It close enough is mortal combat. This is my list. And i like what i like. What could i say. I i know. People hate this movie. So much but james wan and simon mccoy d- i think they clearly are mortal kombat fans and the thing is. I know a lot of people like to say. How can you make a mortal kombat movie without the tournament. Like that was like the big thing that people love to say. I have this sneaking suspicion that everyone who says that has not played a mortal kombat game since like nineteen ninety-four. Because the thing that this movie to me is mostly an adaptation of is the story mode in the most recent mortal kombat games which is absolutely ridiculous just completely silly b movie less than b. movies z movie type dialogue and storytelling. It's all about double crossing. The jokes are immature. As hell. i mean this is exactly what we got with this adaptation. I will of course nobody is gonna sit here and tell you that cole young is a worthwhile character to include in. This whole story is definitely a waste of time..

"Hat, man. It was every pill. Yeah, it was a great shot. He picked up the hat. This victory victory. And, of course, is the quicker minor past winners. That was super embarrassing. You're a moron. And then, of course from 2019, Hellboy Lady. Quit while you're ahead. Of course. That's after Hellboy decapitated there and then she's like you'll never stop me and how boys like lady Well, you're Dad. Good, interesting note about this Mortal Kombat movie, The writing credits to Greg Newsome and Dave Cal. Him. Greg Russo has really done anything of note. Callahan did the do movie that the expendables did Zombieland double tap. Did wonder Woman 1984, But more importantly, do he has the upcoming Shane Chee and the Legend of the 10 Rings movie? So that's gonna be really interesting to see how his writing style with those movies, which aren't super serious fit into a marvel universe and then Additionally, he's also pending Spider Man into the Spider Verse two. Obviously, this is a guy that people are seeking out for great movie, so I guess we have to like Dave Callie. Um I don't mean doom sucked. The expendables is what it is right. Double tap was pretty solid. One of 19 4 was that great? So no sort of been a roller coaster for him. But now he's good saying, T and Spider verse two. So that'll be that'll be real interesting. The synopsis of the movie Gu as we've already kind of touched upon M. M a fighter Cole Young seeks out Earth's greatest champions in order to stand against the enemies of Outworld and a high stakes battle for the universe. So preposterous synopsis, But that's why this is a Mortal Kombat movie. Call Young's a made up character so he doesn't actually exist in the Mortal Kombat. Metella Bloody combat University. I thought he was fine the way they do that it's fine, whatever They needed to do something like that. Really? What's hilarious, innit? Is that sub zero? Killed scorpions family Like he brutally murdered them at the beginning of the movie by freezing them or doing whatever we don't really see the murder of the family. But then at the end of the movie to pretty much teas, Armadillo Boy, he just froze his family to a wall, allowing Armadillo boy to punch them out. Yeah, that really makes sense, right? It doesn't make any sense. But you don't look past it looked past it. Victory. So go. I have this at 30 hot dogs. To me. Ah, Perfect Popcorn movie? Yes, Completely mindless. I went in with the absolute lowest of expectations. It's the type of movie you could smash a bag or or a bowl or, you know, whatever. You're you're eating your popcorn in. Not even think twice. Enjoy it like if you go into this expecting a good story you've already lost. You gotta go in expecting Mortal Kombat. That's what you get 30 hot dogs. It's honestly I think it's the fourth or fifth Best movie of CNN show. Yeah, even is the fifth best movie and I haven't way higher than you at 31 hot dogs. That's how much I think of this movie, And I think it was maybe four or five times in this movie where my wife either said to me this is so stupid. Or is this almost over Ron Burgundy here with tragic breaking news? On the way to work this morning. I got a ticket for not wearing my seat belt..

"Host of the Galaxy. Brains podcast from Polygon Day. Welcome. Thanks for having me Also with us is Geeta Jackson. She's a staff writer at Motherboard from Vice and the co host of Waypoint Radio. Welcome Back to the show. Geeta. Hi. Thanks for having me and with us. Karen Han, a staff writer at Slate, Karen, Welcome. Thank you so much. I'm so excited to get into mortal combat with you guys carry keeping nonviolent. I'm kidding. Okay, so you you wrote a review of the New Mortal Kombat movie First Light. The title is the new Mortal Kombat movie rules. So I feel like I know the answer is there but tell us what you thought of the movie. I mean, I had so much fun with it. I was talking to a few friends and we were wondering, Do we like this movie so much like because movie going during the pandemic has been kind of such a lackluster year. Or is it just because this movie is genuinely fun? I tend to think the answer to that question is the ladder. It just does a good job of delivering exactly what it's supposed to which is A bunch of guys fighting like that is all that a mortal Kombat movie has to do. And it absolutely accomplishes that. Dave. What about you? Oh, boy. Well, I mean, I'm going to disagree slightly. I did enjoy the movie, but it didn't offer the one thing every Mortal Kombat story is supposed to offer. And that is the Mortal Kombat tournament, folks. Not having the tournament is sort of like Star Wars, not having a war in space in it. So were you a Mortal Kombat fan before this? Absolutely. Yes. I mean, I am of a certain age to have been entranced by the video games, The movies, the whole mythology, the universe of it, So, Yeah, I was kind of expecting. I turn on a movie called Normal Combat. There will be a Mortal Kombat tournament. And yet here we are in this non Mortal Kombat tournament world and I'm very perplexed. We got this voice mail from will in North Carolina. I saw the New Mortal Kombat movie and I really liked it. I say This, of course, is a guy who hasn't really played a lot of it. I have very little outside knowledge. So some people here are saying the main character was bad. I thought, you know, this guy doesn't know anything about Mortal Kombat. I don't know anything about what will combat we're on the same level. The fights were awesome. Music was nice, a good blend of like pleasing the fans and having enough there to to have the federal viewing public understand it. Okay, Geeta. I want to hear your take. Do you think this was Ah, good movie, Or was it good for Mortal Kombat movie? Oh, well, I watched it last night, and I have to say not only did I really have a great time with it. It made me really You're in for the experience of seeing a movie in a theater with other people. There's so many moving moments in this movie that are clearly built like you can really tell. I think it really takes seeing it outside of a movie theater, seeing it alone to see how blockbuster action movies are built differently from other films. You can see that the film is paced towards these intense moments of celebration where everyone in the room is gonna have a vocal reaction. There's so many points where me and my partner returned to each other and just be like I wish we could hear everyone cheering. During this moment, but you know not only that, I felt like you know, it's actually the article up on waypoint today by Cameron Councilman that goes into the plot of the Mortal Kombat games and how this movie actually reflects the expansiveness of the law or more accurately, then reach for doing a re tread of the first original 1995 movie that cover the tournament arc. In fact, you know, Cameron says in this article, which I read this morning, and I think it is Very informative that a lot of the recent games don't actually have a term in dark at all. Or the treatment arc is, you know Ortho agonal or parallel to the actually important lower things are happening. This feels like if this movie feels like it, not only is a wonderful action movie that's a lot of fun that I wish I could see with a lot of people in a big room on a hot, sunny day, but like it reflects the reality of what Mortal Kombat has become in the intervening years since release Stephen Tweets. I have been in Mortal Kombat fan since I spent what must have been over $200 mastering Sonya Blade in 92. I really enjoyed the new movie Love the mythology and the way they explain the characters energy powers. It was ridiculous. But then I'm reminded that it is mortal combat After all. What do you expect? We're talking to Dave Shilling, co host of the Galaxy, Brain podcast, Geeta Jackson from vice and Karen Han from Slate. We sat down with Mortal Kombat director and producer Simon McCoy, the head of this show and asked him about the decision to introduce a new main character for the film, And here's what he had to say There were a couple of reasons actually, the firstly model combat over its The last several decades of its existence, have all that new characters all the time. It's become one of the things so 80 odd characters now and There is precedent. Then we felt it was I kind of do that. It was kind of a mortal Kombat thing to do. And then the other reason is we needed a fresh set of eyes inside the movie to take the audiences through it. It may not be That outside with all the information and more common of which there is a lot. So that was the reason for the man reasons actually, and he as he learned the audience land Allowed us to tomo, unlock and open up some of the information that we needed to Dave. What did you think about the introduction of this new main character, Cole Young. Well, I agree with with Simon about the need to have someone who can express the audience that befuddlement any given point in in a film like this. I think that's Kind of a common trope in genre film making, which is every once in a while. Character needs to say what exactly is going on right now? Who is that? Why is that happening? How come my chest is glowing? That kind of stuff s so it is a pivotal screenwriting trope. In a lot of these movies going all the way back to again. Just a reference Star Wars They feel like Mortal Kombat has a lot in common with Star Wars is Star Wars has multiple point of view characters that ask those questions. If it's Luke, If it's Han solo on then, you know in the in the sequel trilogy, having Ray and and fan asking questions all the time like that's important for these mythology, heavy Films do I feel like it was a fantastic addition to the mythology of Mortal Kombat? No, but I understand why it was there. It was a tool with which to tell this story. That is really probably one of the most elaborate mythologies and all of video games. Karen, what about you? I agree, and then I think he's sort of necessary for the movie because there's so much lore like there's that car that comes up right after the initial sequence that explains the premises of Outworld and Earth realm, and what Mortal Kombat the tournament is. But I feel like having to explain too much of that via initial text to be too much, so it's helpful to have cold there to kind of school details out about like the Kanna about the Mortal Kombat symbols that they all have..

Details out about lengthy are Kanna about the Mortal Kombat symbols that they all have to show that they're champions. That said. I do think he's very much a movie character like I don't think I could see him necessarily in one of the main games, at least not until they develop his powers. A little bit more nog to Mortal combat has a ton of characters, and we got to see some of the most recognizable ones like Scorpion and sub zero How do you feel about the time the movie spent with the classic characters? Well, I mean, actually, one of the things I wanted to point out was how nice it was to see that they had cast a black woman to play Molina. I know in the game when the most recent world combat introduced that character in the game they had the rapper Meghan, the Sally and cause play her as part of the announcement in this game is like a huge game, very popular game in the final game community, which is You know, a largely like black community And this game is the last of the black people. So you know it doesn't you know, I'm disappointed that I didn't get to see a lot of reptile, which is the gay the player, the character that my partner plays most often because he likes to do the acid stuff. But I also feel like every single appearance of each character. Like, how do you meaningful moment for fans of those characters and you know the way of the movie is structured. It gives you a lot of reasons why the movie is focused on the characters that is focused on but every time legacy character shows up. Everybody who's ever touched a mortal Kombat game hasn't like a hell yes, Moment. Well, Kelly tweets. It was a fun movie and definitely better than most video game adaptations. I'm looking at you 93 Super Mario Brothers and Josh Lawson as Keano's stole the show. You know, Dave, I can I can imagine someone sitting at home and being like, what are they? What are they talking about? How familiar do you need to be with Mortal Kombat and the lore around the video game to enjoy the movie? That Zagreb question because you know, as we've been talking about this movie was designed from the ground up to hopefully introduce people to this franchise who aren't otherwise. Fans, but a same time. It is peppered with references to the game to allusions to things that you've seen in the other the other films or in in the TV show that there's a teeth he show. Very briefly or the the the video game. The reboot the most recent reboot. Um, that means it's kind of hard to jump in completely like you have to know a little bit about mortal combat toe like this movie. We're talking all things Mortal Kombat and video game movies with Dave Shilling. He's co host of the Galaxy, Brain podcast Geeta Jackson from.

"And they're and they're doing this that have character banter thing the buddy banter thing. I think that stuff totally works. I wanna give this we credit for. I think it's most important decision. Which is shelving johnny cage. 'cause the thing i was saying earlier about you either have these unrelatable gory demonic characters or you have wet blankets like luke king and ryden. The other problem with this franchise is johnny cage. Just so he works in the games but once you stick him into an actual story. He kind of his his absurdity. I think undermines the whole idea of trying to take the idea of earth world and our all that seriously undermined when you have this ham character. Who wants to be the protagonists in the form of johnny cage. I just think it never works. I think kaneohe is a much much better comic relief character than johnny cage. I hate this movie ends by telling us that mortal kombat to is going to go into feature johnny cage Yeah i like it is she. Do we have to explain the out world earthworms because it's the it's the thing is always you're in his is literally is just a bunch of mumbo jumbo to set up staged fights across Multiple dimensions and that the last half hour of this movie is specifically that lake. The the the the goal of these characters is to have a tournament that chang sung in his ilk. Don't want to have or want to win before the tournament even begins by killing everyone And so they divide and conquer. Yeah i i think that's the other thing if you okay. This is a mortal kombat movie where we don't really get to the tournament That's the thing. I imagine people will complain about to me the flip side though. Right is the best parts of this movie. Or when they're figuring out how like how they're gonna rally to earth's offense and then the part where they're training rate once it starts getting into the part where there okay. The they've discovered there arcana that unlocked their powers and now they're actually interacting with like vidar forces that's when it becomes the sort of more lower highly supposedly high stakes part of the plot where they are own inside. The movie begins to accelerate. Yeah he's just like oh this is better when it was low. Stakes blower stakes. I guess what i'm trying to say is that the low stakes stuff in mortal combat is the best stuff and once it tries to go into high stakes mode in that last act. It's just like oh yeah. I'd never cared about this immoral combat. I never care about nether out. Earth were. I never cared about that stuff. And it is the curse of the moral kind of franchise even the story modes for the games. Just like there's too much time. Travel and immortality involved in it all just feels kind of esoteric pointless. And you can reboot it however many times and it's always the best it's ever going to have to offer. Is jack's going back in time to stop slavery earlier writing. It's member be something seriously bed. Yeah but i mean we gotta go back to your boy cole. Young who is just like getting his ass handed to him the entire movie like he. I'll tell you put it like this falcon. Mike could win a fight with medifast fan. Mike could actually would fight against coal. Seeing is allie can't really. I was so indifferent like the backing up the entire time. In the in the finale in the fa mallya falcon and the winter soldier when he's fighting these fighting with at least fighting the last credible threat. He is backing up the entire time that he's fighting. I've never seen captain america. Steve rogers lose a shield. That often not like he lost four or five times in that episode man. Okay but young man. Listen to me you see you see sam. Wilson did lose trees in his backyard. Search box trees. Like i'm tired of this man. It was the same thing with john. Boyega in the last jedi when he is fighting when he was fighting crime don captive fantasma and like he he had the the ad the electric baton and it was supposed to be his here. Come get it moment. Like i'm here now. By negative is activated. He was backing up the entire time to and then he won that fight by going to get cheap shotted. why can't they. I'm just saying. I'm just saying it's frustrating. Yeah yeah i can you know but at least at least at least dramatically for dramatic purposes. I it's supposed to be the case. That cole of all these people. He's a fish out of water. Yes he's not going to be. You know what i mean. He has to have somewhere to go in the later films yet. Easy he's his. He's an aging mixed martial artist aging like despite the fact that he's obviously not that old twenty eight. Yes these are anyway. Oh no. But i don't know i i like i like the at a one. It's fun it was a fun movie. I still recommend people demon slayer booby over or see the demon slayer movie. Actually you know what watch the watch you can watch mortal combat at home and then go see because if you see divas layer i if you have the luxury of seeing things in a theater at this point in the pandemic and we were saying if you were looking at those two showtimes i would definitely say that to me. I'm gladys all the demon slayer movie in theater in a way that i don't know that i would've enjoyed one or combat theatre it really rewards demon slayer will be really for like the big Like you know expensively animated sequences like the fighting on the top of the train even like ca ranker's sword work on the inside of the train and the final battle. Those are all things that are really reward being washed on the big screen if you can go to.

"Kombat and use film streaming right now on. Hbo max news directed by simon mma. Quad maekawa sorry. I'm not sure exactly how to pronounce mcquaid anyway. The plot summary from follows mma fighter coal. Young this is why. I was laughing during the character in mortal. Kombat later cole. Young seeks out earth's greatest champions in order to stand against the enemies of out world in a high-stakes battle for the universe and quote also. No he doesn't that makes us seem like he's the prime mover which he's really not indeed indeed. Okay well dentists. Said i want to start with you because as you mentioned you worked at a game studio and for many many years you helped to create mortal kombat games so you are one of the foremost experts in the world on mortal. Jeez i guess what was your. What was your sort of anticipation going into this. Movie mortal kombat. Hbo max like. Is there something that you were like. This movie delivers an ex. I'm going to be happy with it. That's a tough question. I i had low expectations. Because i had heard rumblings from people who were familiar with the script and people had seen certain things that it wasn't going to be great but i still held out some hope. Because you know those people in question which i'm not naming were very close to mortal kombat not necessarily in the studio but just like in terms of being a fan and so it's kind of hard thing to judge in terms of like well. Do you not like it because it is disrespectful to the lore or because they changed things or you know i think the way fan reacts to something is sometimes you know not very objective. Skeptical but still hoping holding out hope. We'll also pushed the release date of mortal combat like very recently which it just makes me like. I think as of january of this year. We didn't even know that this movie ex existed right like the trailer hadn't come out yet. As far as i know and be trying to say is from me from a pr perspective. It felt like they were putting together. Really really rapidly in the first quarter of twenty twenty one like it felt like this. They barely finished this movie. I don't know if that's actually true. But it felt like it because they pushed the release date like by a week a month ago. So it's just like this is usually not something that happens. They usually push release states. Like especially for somebody this premier nato max. They usually have the released a baked in for a while. So yeah yeah. I have no idea about that. I do know that they claimed it was the king kong vs godzilla. Wanted to make room for that. Was the reason why they pushed it. But i don't know if that's true or not but the movies here and what you think of it. Well they've i think my thoughts on mortal kombat are subs up in the form of a haiku. Wow okay mixing it up action without stakes narrative without logic costume. Pageantry is beautiful beautiful. Yup yeah okay. So thanks so like i said i was going in and i have to say. I quite enjoyed the first half of this movie. I thought the opening scene was actually quite well done and the kind of manifestation or that. The interpretation of scorpion sub zero and qena later was excellent. I absolutely love the casting. I love the look of it. I love the the actors. Were phenomenal in those roles so it was off to a good start Then you introduce coal which a lot of people kind of we're down on the idea of making up a character For the movie as your way as the audience surrogate. I actually did not have a problem with that. Just in theory 'cause Yeah for people that don't know that's not a mortal character and So it was going along with it. It was okay you meet score you start you meet a keno and i think the kind of movie comes alive a little bit. He's really funny you know. Great one liners great ad-lib sort of stuff but then about the halfway point they're cert- certain things start to happen. Which i don't know maybe are spoilers but it starts to get bogged down and then there's a very. There's a very specific point. That is definitely spoiler where the movie completely lost me. And i thought the final act was a terrible like a total mess but so overall i didn't like it but there are a number of things that i think are pretty good in it and should we wait until spoilers to get into those everything. Yeah i guess so. We could talk. There's more stuff i can say. Generally but that's good for now all right tara area. No i did not expect you to watch this movie at all or are you a mortal kombat fan like why did you. Why were you motivated. Watch this first of all. i'm insulted. second. No i'm not a mortal combat game but i did but i was a big tech in brisbane back in the day and i like fighting movies. I like violence. I was i choose violence. I was super here for the opening scene where people were getting like swords into the top of their heads. It's like this is. This is what i want like this. At but i agree with damage that it's like it completely falls apart in las meet by the end. I couldn't remember who like whose powers were what. And i didn't care either in the whole the whole business where like people were figuring out God what is it called a common which are conscious a movie invention by the way okay. That's very funny. Because there's an episode of futurama where The the harlem globetrotters come on earth from the home trotter. The globetrotter home worlds of course and Professor farnsworth creates a bunch of Like clones that he's going to grow up super fast. Be really go to basketball..

"Which was weird. Co almost disagree. there only. Because i think that cole young is the one character. Obviously that just this isn't tied to the mortal combat part like he's like you're saying that that audience insertion right so for him to have this fight be more grounded and less like sides grow fight like the rest of the more because the rest of this you sonya blade versus like fucking like All the other who's the The hunter bad guy. The one with the masks like all these other characters. Oh yeah marisha with the name. But they all have their fights and like decide scorer fashion in outer world and those ones all take place in that set but cole young being the one character. That isn't really part of that. This world in him having his fights being places that we recognize. I think makes more sense. But i do get it like this is our big moment for coal young right like you know. We're going to see coming out party more or less with his powers coming in that taking place on like front lawn was a little strange but i get but at the same time. I understand the thought process behind it was that was good ball that character. Yeah you're thinking of the crow suck. Your soul alive made laugh. I think he was like soul sucked. Jane thanks sean. Yeah and shang shopping season and how look like check it out. He's about to suck sold. Yeah dude i laughed. It was amazing and to that point all with anything. Where he's about his soul the troll toll thing. Yeah yeah like the like wait. Why even dislike obviously intentionally provocative piece of dialogue. That was like on the but to that point too. I think the actors in this one. We were significantly better than the actors in the original and like louis hannah. We have the interview with from last episode. I do think he was good as the character of coal young the actual work that they did with coal young. Maybe isn't satisfactory. Her yuki tanada. Who is scorpion. And this i thought was really cool. He's always bad. as and everything he does. And joe taslima who played subzero. I thought was like he'd really stuck out. And i love joe taza from warrior and many other things the rate as well he was so fucking good as sub zero. I love all this fight scenes. They look cool. They were just. They were so different. But i do think that chin-han was a bit of miscast as shang song. Like everyone else is pretty solid. He just like every time. I looked like i know you can't fight. You know what i mean. Yeah i guess. Yeah i kind of think like when i picture the video game version. I thought they did like a relatively good job of making the characters. Like close enough to the video game versions. Now keep in mind like they. The the characters immoral combat ten and eleven still look a lot different than they did even original video game version so at some point they probably nailed one. The character designs The he yeah. I hear what you're saying about the set the setup for the fights and then the other thing like i mean. I've i've gotten over it right. Which is like we actually have mortal combat usually. There's like a prelude to mortal combat or earn version mortal combat like. There was no tournament but then again. It's the problem with mortal kombat. Got this with the first movie. Is that like the whole the whole in canon with the mortal kombat tournament. Luke king wins one in two..

"Wondering should i go ahead and play monster world to become affiliated with with the series or should i just jumped into rise but both of them looked like really good games annum earlier like they challenge zelda players to get into monster hundred like. I'm curious how that would work out. Because as a as a huge zelda player you can see right here and my tattoo for a listeners. Who can't see. I do have a tattoo on my left arm. Brazil the players. I wanna take on that challenge of hunting down monsters and finding the best way to take down so should i jump into world. I because it's free or should i go ahead and spend that sixty dollars a rise. I don't won't. I would say either but yeah why bring that up is. Because the monsters i mean they. They could pretty much in the legend of zelda game. That's why i say they're not terribly skin scary. They're kind of like will not am well. You know they're they're very fantastical and the fact that you have ever for free. That's great. i mean that's an awesome game with about one hundred hours worth of game. Play that you can spend with other people. I'll say rises faster and depending on how you are with things. I mean the fact that you have for free. I would say we why not download especially that raise has an expansion to. I don't know veal. Get that for free as well ice forum. I have not gone around the playing that but there's a lot to endure a back and rise as well just rises more even more accessible because of these need additions that adds taken off from monster. Hunter world to be able to anybody. So yeah. that's what i had to say by unto the news. Well we were talking about earlier. Men are you save for king. Kong godzilla Max the next big. Hbo max film is the new moral combat movie based off of games coming out now april. Twenty three to push pushback just a week but it's still coming out april. Recently there was an interview with the director on some things why he made the film the way news. Talk mount how much he really loved the games. He wanted it to be exactly like the games are as close as possible while having his own. Spend that at thought. That's cool know not everybody's a fan of that people wanted it exactly the way. They don't want any changes in such with the case of johnny cage. Not being in the film. He confirmed that. The protagonist cole young..

"On Lee. Two issues that I have is the main character. Uh, Cole Young. Okay, so let's let's talk about this. If you haven't seen the very first Mortal Kombat movie, right where you've never played it more. Let's start with if you've never played a Mortal Kombat game. Mortal Kombat doesn't have a main character there. You know, it's just It's just a bunch of characters they come to The Mortal Kombat beyond their own little back story, and and you fight toe live basically so the fact that instead of using a character within the mythos whatever they're coming up with some Original one. Well, that's because in the original movie they actually cast Luke hang memorably as like the main character of the movie. There's nothing wrong with that, though, but that is the point. It's a change. Now you go into this new movie where they've essentially created a new character. It's not somebody that's a Mortal Kombat character. It's not somebody that they've talked about before. Not a good look for a video game movies they Hey, we're going to start by creating a brand new character who's not in the game. It sounds like a really bad decision could work will see. But then the other thing that I'm worried about. Is this whole. Oh, if you have the birth Mark. That's your invitation to it. The whole idea of destiny. What That tells me is the first half of the movie is gonna be cold being like, Oh, but I don't want to. I don't want to do this. I don't believe in destiny and kind of fighting back against it before he finally decides. Okay. I guess I'll go fight for the world. All of this movie needs to do is have the same sort of action that we saw in the trailer through the whole thing. We want to see blood. We want to see fatalities. We want to see moral combat. This is a really should be a really easy video game movie. To make work, so we'll see if they're able. But why would you go to the movies to get all the stuff you're going to get from the video game? I think you still need a really good story to tie it all. Sure, sure, but it doesn't have to build up to give blood of fatalities just just around just rewatched rampage with the rock. And even if the rock wasn't in that movie that's still a really good movie. It's giant monsters fighting each other, and there's a little bit of a story there. Sure. But just just stick to what Mortal Kombat.

"Show. Starring joe manganiello and jason momoa called super fucking handsome. So i think this is kinda cool. I like the idea of. They're doing a dog dragon. Show if they want to actually incorporate the idea of it being some kind of a game if they are going to kind of go that route. It kind of reminds me the comparison in my head. But i'd read the article about this was like they gotta do a A yu-gi-oh meets the witcher. Like are they going to going to know there's dungeon masters and there's role of devices and things involved but maybe these people in the game is it. Jumanji esque in a way is so interested in evade. Take take other than just being in a row with dragons and monsters south because then i don't see how that's really uniquely dodges dragons but game night and things like that. Maybe it'd be cool if they have some kind of the actual game aspect. I think the game night directors. I think those guys. Jonathan francis daily. I think those guys will do the gaming kind of stuff you know especially jonathan. Jonathan francis daily back on his days on freaks and geeks. The last episode of that series was the james franco. Fucking d episode. Yes you're right. And so i i love that i love that fucking show and i love that show too. I was watching that show in the night. Here's here's here's how much of a dork i was. I would friday nights when that show is on. I would wait to go out until that show is over on fridays. So i i was watching that show as it was airing on. Nbc back. in the day. I fucking love it. Show so but yeah. I don't know this. These two are going to be completely separate. I feel like this one will be set in the world and the other one will be kind of like i think the the john jonathan goldstein and john francis daley one is going to be kind of like. I would guess that that one. That's going to be bouncing back and forth between the two worlds the real world and the and the actual game itself kind of like that south park episode of world and world of warcraft. "Pm Eastern live on pay per view. All right so. I think that the Lakers now that they've got this cushion are probably the one seed I do. I do I so that means they would open the playoffs against the eight. Yep Right now. The eight are the Memphis Grizzlies. Who have played really well. Yep MEMPHIS AND IN MEMPHIS got. They've been really good. Portland was the nine and they just throttled Portland. And now Damian. Lillard hurt so I think Portland's going the wrong way Yup Now behind Portland is San Antonio. I'm not buying on them. I guess they just seem like a five hundred team to me if that and they're already there twenty three and thirty one yep Here's the team. I'm worried about worried about worried about getting the eight okay. I think they're getting the ECHO head. The New Orleans Pelicans now. Here's here's the problem with my theory there. A full five games back of Memphis so in order for the Pelicans to get this Memphis would have to back up. But I looked at Memphis's schedule. Yeah it's hard so the twenty nine himself will take thirty games left. There's probably fifteen losses in there for Memphis Games that they won't be favored. Okay the PELICANS. I only came up with nine. I think they could win. Nineteen twenty games down the stretch here. They've got cy on who's been really really good. They've won six out of eight. So here's my question for you. Yup is five games too much to make up though as well as emphasis plan can the PELICANS leapfrog three teams to get into the eight with thirty games to go already trailing by five Yes big ask yes. They can't I think they're going to be the eight by the way five. Thirty eight DOT COM has them as the eight three percent. Chance of being the eight and it's because they're scheduled right and it's because of Zion. Yup I got a faster questions I ended A. He has played like an absolute monster. He plays tonight. He's one of the two games tonight on TNT Against Oklahoma City and Brandon Ingram. Sean All Star. You know that was a team that I had. I had an eleven or twelve game losing streak at the start of the year. Yup but they're not that team anymore. They've won six out of eight and they are rolling fivethirtyeight. Got Them finishing forty and forty two. Which would probably do it. Which would do it But it also means just behind then the grizzlies then disperse it also means that the PELICANS would win seventeen of their last twenty nine which makes sense to me. That's eleven losses. I only I only saw eight or nine losses in there but that has them going. Basically Seventeen and eleven. Thank you totally see. So that's if you're the Lakers in your sending out scouts you really have to send them out to four different series. I you want your absolutely. Are you kidding me? You Want A. That is an exciting series. That is huge ratings that is ion versus Lebron and AD. It is an Anthony Davis going back to New Orleans and made for TV man. That is a story. I think it's either Memphis or New Orleans. My office I I would be totally fine with. I think John Moran is Is really really good. journ Jackson Dillon Brooks Balance Soonest. I think that's a nice roster They're not any threat to beat the Lakers but John Mirant makes it an entertaining serious okay so tonight. There's this game in Boston. Between the Celtics who are thirty. Seven and sixteen and the clippers were thirty seven and seventeen up so Boston comes in with a half game. Better record but And this is a huge break for the clippers. Jalen Brown who has been great for them is out tonight with a calf injury and a brown is one of the key reasons why they're thirty. Seven and sixteen. He's really one of the most underrated stories in the league this year. He's averaging twenty points and six and a half rebounds per game and their their whole their team is basically a team that can kinda hit you from all sides and now they lost one of their sides so without Jalen Brown. I would favor the clippers a little bit tonight. we'll see and those are the only two games by the way there's only two games and then everybody else has already at the all-star Break Oklahoma City plays New Orleans. Yup that game starts at the top of the hour and then the clippers play Boskin. That's the thing. Apparently New Orleans is getting ratings whenever they're on TV The Actually both those games start at the top of the hour. They both start at five o'clock in the T. Game is is clippers at Celtics New ORLEANS MINUS THREE AT home over O. K. C. GimMe a thousand mythical dollars on New Orleans minus three at home versus o'casey I G I do a little parley action. There's an you can't do a partly with two three two one. I get three to one. Yeah all right. Gimme What's the spread and other guy can't bet on the clippers clippers clippers plus one plus one plus one? Boston MINUS ONE IS JAYLEN Brown. It's interesting All right So last week rob Manfred. Who I've as a baseball fan I've lost total and complete faith in he's turning into Roger Goodell Inability to handle scandal And last week he revealed his new idea for a playoff system. N evolves increasing the number of teams that make the playoffs It would be adding two wildcards right right so there would be three wildcards two division winners and one seven teams from each league one day getting the by the playoffs and it involves the lower three opponents the two division Champs And the Best Wild Card to essentially draft who they want to play now. I'm totally good with expanding the playoffs. I'm totally good was seven teams from each league because frankly that's the best part of baseball season the playoffs and making them longer involving more teams in Orlando actually. This would eliminate the game playoff right all the sudden you get three games. It's worth it to be a wild card because you gotta shot strange. It was strange to me strange to you that the three game playoff would all be in the in the city with the team. That has the best road. It's good if you win the division title. You probably won't be winners of the division. One will not be one one to one. The other two would be wildcards right because you only have three division division winners and then the wild card with the best record okay So but division winners will an advantage and the best wild card will have an advantage. The only part I don't go along with I'm I'm completely in favor of expansion. I don't buy into this let's reality. Tv pick our opponents to me. That's just garbage That's just made up. Yes yeah and and you could easily correct it by just matching up the records right this. Just do it by record art now. Are you in favor of the drafting of the opponents? I doesn't matter to me. I'm in favor of of exciting. Yeah of adding more teams. How they how they get to Whether who's GonNa play who are really? Don't care so the outspoken. Trevor Bauer Actually talked about this. I think this is from a podcast from not mistaken. Talked about Rob Manfred and his suggestion for a new playoff system. And by the way he makes a point that I hadn't even thought of a WHO put this out without thinking of the fact that the best team in the League is going to get a six day layoff while we sort out this whole three games here. This wildcard and we're GONNA pick are potent and we're GonNa do this whole reality. Tv stuff. Meanwhile the best team in baseball is sitting at home waiting for all this crap transpire. God forbid someone's as pitches four days before the end of the regular season and has ten days in between starts being on a routine is so important in baseball. We play for six months. And now you're GONNA say at the most critical time of the year that we're going to get six days in between games and who knows how the pitching rotation lines up and all this different stuff and that's supposed to be a benefit that's supposed to be the best team in baseball gets this benefit. These are some things that come off the top of my head. The first time I read through the proposal haven't even had time to think about this. I just read it like an hour ago. I just some so that's frustrating then So wait his point is it's too long. Elaine thinks it's a disadvantage to have the best record because then you have a seven eight day. Layoff in baseball is a game of rhythm. All the sudden an ace has to wait a week to start a game and that's a disadvantage right. But it's also an advantage in that you could pitch anybody you want leading up to the end of the season in reset your whole rotate. Your Outta your completely out of rhythm. Yeah I- distasteful is a rhythm game. Well I mean I. I can't disagree with an ACE CY young award contender every year. I think he probably knows what he's talking about. But I do understand. Baseball is a game of rhythm. And you don't WanNa be too out of your cycle. Yeah but guys are used to pitch in every five days and all of a sudden getting severed. I've heard that in the NFL to the the rest versus rest thing that if you're one of the top teams in the NFL. You don't have to play the first week And I I see both sides of it but I'd rather have the rest you know I'd rather the rest in and get my team healthy in six days isn't that long You know six. Really ensure days mourning the all-star break really good starting pitcher that I had not thought of that. I had not thought by the way a new producer is a Cleveland Indians Fan Right. Yes definitely trump big trevor fan too. Trevor Bauer finch from Ohio. But they ran him out of there. Lindsay didn't they. I mean I guess you could probably say that because whereas Cincinnati now yeah. He's he's in with the reds but I mean people had enough of them especially probably in the Indians. Pr Staff he's a he's a UCLA. Guy Bauer yeah but I always liked if I use it shoots his mouth by the way very interesting Garrett Cole Young's Ucla Guy and trevor. Bauer hate each other. Yes there college certainly turnover like each other. Trevor Bauer Accuses Garrett Cole going to Houston and using the slop that they use on the base balls to increase his Spin rate there has been. Did you see this news? Just broke about the dodger. Red Sox trade. No there is an element to this trade. That makes Andrew Friedman look like a complete genius. Can't good and I will share with you next Bob. Nightingale is coming up next for you to Hadrian PINNA history. The only writer that we can do a reasonably good impression. Guarantees says isn't even yeah. I'll throw this thing at Bob that I I can't believe this is true. I'll share it with you coming up all right Mason Ireland seventeen ESPN..
