So I'm I'm really disappointing sounds like Vince Velazquez is pretty close to coming off the injured list. He was dealing with a strain forearm gave Kappler's got a decision to make. Now, I think that's something that we want to spend some time thinking about after a loss like this. And really evaluate it with a little distance between what has happened. It's either the Phillies or mystery team. But I don't think that's changing. I think he's already decided in this is just a ploy. The only assumption. We're making that I'm not sure about is that it is Phillies. Like, I know that he has a team is picked and he is right now trying to get more money out of that team. I am ninety percent shirts the Phillies, but there's a small part of me that thinks it's a team totally off the board just like Machado. And this entire league process has just been a ploy to get more money from that team. Of course, it is. Well, I mean the entire league processes. To get more money from whatever team. I don't know. If there's a I don't know if it's a NATs. I I would assume there's at least one of the team that's considering. I I here's what I believe. I believe the Phillies are going to sign Bryce Harper. I do and I believe that they're the only team right now that really is committed and willing to put the money up that it's going to take. But you don't want him. Here's what I want. I if Bryce Harper is going to be a Philly. That'd be Philly. If Bryce Harper wants to be a Philadelphia Philly and says, you know, what all this other stuff all its extracurricular stuff is is done by the agent to get the most money. I wanna be affiliates where I wanna play, but this reporting out there that says otherwise there's reporting out there that says knob, I mean price really doesn't seem like he wants to play here. He's if he on it. Well, guess what it's gonna take you extra to get him here. I bet you if you give him three fifty comes three forty he'll be here a player. That's if you can pay your way to get them there. But a player, that's if you about playing here a superstar that already has the reputation of being selfish. Needy. Yeah. But here's the thing. No, no, cliff Lee joining his team for less money. He's joining a playoff contending team. He's joining a team that has doc Halliday on they has Cole hamels in the starting rotation held the has ROY Oswald in the starting rotation. That's a stacked offers a lineup where he knows you. Don't get a ton of run support. Oh, by the way, he played here already. So he knows what it's like to play in his towel. He realized I gave him the nickname the general Lee that also played a part in coming back here. Why does Bryce Harper? Phil. Right. He definitely needs to be in Philadelphia. There is nothing that's drawing in the Philadelphia. Not a history of winning. Not a great manager. Not a great team right now. You know, what's going to draw Bryce Harper here money? You know, what the Phillies think they're gonna do draw Bryce Harper with res Hoskins and Aaron Nola and money, and Jesus they see tomato Phillies are often real money. I there's nothing I in my bone. The tells me the Phillies are put a real offer out there for Bryce Harper. And when I say real all for three hundred plus million, you think Manny Machado is going to San Diego with two hundred and forty million. No, no, you need to give Manny Machado three hundred million again, come to San Diego. Well, guess what? Bryce Harper has no ties Philadelphia. So we can't sell him on cheese steaks. And how great the fan base is the only thing the guide noses money. So we really want Bryce Harper didn't step up and pony up the money. But he's Bryce Harper is the I want the biggest contract guy. Yes. Bryce Harper is the guy that will go. We knew the biggest we not notice. Did we not the number one? He's he's getting the most money. We did not though we knew that. That was the that was the most important thing to him was become the biggest free agent signing. What we know? We don't we do it. Right. Yeah. We wanted him. And now we're sitting here on February February twentieth. And there's no end in sight to this Harper length thing had the monster energy drink in nearly two weeks. I'm totally fiend. I build you baled Fritz I guarantee you hasn't hasn't continued not to drink beer. There's no way guarantee. He's Bill giving up something for Harper Leonard, you'll even one Harper anymore. Right. Exactly. Well, no. But then he he's this rivalry with Fritz. So he doesn't want to get involved in anything that he's toting anti Harper Lee. Yeah. Over rivalry with Fritz. I don't know. But it seemed like it jumped off on Twitter yesterday. Yeah. You know, you you do look his takes her bad. I mean, that's I mean, I have a rivalry with him. He's just wrong about most. "I don't I'm not concerned about him. Only throwing you know, two hundred combined innings over the last two seasons after three. Throwing two hundred every season before that. I'm more concerned about his actual performance in those two hundred innings because you know, if you give him one hundred eighty innings next year, what kind of quality are those one hundred eighty innings going to be. Yeah, I agree. Well, his preferred certainly have fallen off. And after I think it was six consecutive seasons of two hundred or more. He has been in one hundreds the past couple years because of that injury in part. So he doesn't quite come with the durable. Were course, who's guaranteed to give you two hundred label anymore in as tech mentioned the efficiency within those innings has tailed off to ease. Less stuff. Doesn't throw quite as hard as you Stu, obviously he is seen as the ultimate gamer and clutch playoff guy. And the question is do you bet on that being a predictive quality? If you are a team that expects to be in the playoffs or you're going to pay more for Bumgarner because of his playoff record or you're going to trust that he can duplicate that in your uniform. I don't know, but. The other really interesting aspect of this to me is far Huns eighty and can he come in with have the courage? I guess are the boldness to come in. And immediately dismantle the remnants of the championship giants teams because you're in a tough spot where the giants probably should rebuild as much as any team. Should they probably should turn the page on those teams? But that's always a tough thing to do in for a new executive to come in and say, not only are you going to be bad now. But you are not even gonna get to watch the guys who remind you of when you work that is a tough thing to to come in before your team is even played a game in and start tearing it down, even if it's one of those things where you know, if you're selling to a fan base. I think most giants would would agree with that assessment of the team that it's time to start taking this team apart. You know, this is sort of what not to bring everything back to the Phillies. But this is what what they did in twenty thirteen fourteen. They never trade. A cliff? They waited years and years to trade Rollins not lead. They never traded. Ryan howard. They took until twenty fifty to trade to trade Cole hamels, and those were those were tough things to to swallow a fan, even if you know that it's that it's good for the team the long term. But you know, I think this this honestly might be one of the vantage of bringing for Hans ID's. He's going to be he has no connection to those teams. He's going to be completely on sentimental about it. So he's, you know, got no reason to to hang onto. Brandon Crawford or Bumgarner. I think the I think you're going to be okay. As as, you know, in terms of not having unrest in the in the streets, San Francisco as long as you don't trade BUSTER Posey. But this it's interesting because like Goldschmidt Goldschmidt is the I would say the best position player. Maybe the best player overall in Diamondbacks history, and Bumgarner has had so many iconic even before twenty fourteen has had so many moments in that giants uniform it's hard to imagine playing anywhere else. Here's a here's a stat to supplement. What I was saying for or so fan graphs tracks with a call pitch values where they basically look at how effective each pitches, and categorize them by type so from twenty thirteen to twenty sixteen one Bumgarner was at his best. He had over those for years the third best fastball. Among all starting pitchers numbers one and two or Kershaw. Scherzer's. So that fits he is one of the best fastballs in baseball over the last two seasons. His fastball has accrued. D- below average results each season..

Chicago Cubs pitcher Cole Hamels takes dig at Milwaukee Brewers fans
"Milwaukee is in the midst of a pennant race they. Are four games behind the Chicago Cubs right now in the? NL central And. The cubs brewers just started a series and the cubs actually lost game one So while the brewers have had a decent fan base and I'm not sure loyals. The, greatest word Cole hamels had to call out the fan base and here's why now Chicago is ninety miles from Milwaukee right it's about ninety miles forty four thousand four hundred sixty. Two, fans in attendance were there But yet it, just seemed that there were a lot of Chicago. Cubs fans In attendance in Milwaukee for a road game now When Anthony Rizzo hits a home run off Josh Peter in the eighth. Inning The crowd starts, cheering as. If, it was a cubs game that gave the cubs, a three, two lead now if the place is loaded more with brewers. Fans Miller park you would think that there'd be a, lot more booing going. Unsaid of hearing a lot of cheers fray, visiting player hitting a home run Right, now you would think So Cole hamels Said this, about it quote when you have the majority of cubs fans. In the stands I don't know if that's a rivalry there aren't going to like me, for the comment but look at the ticket sales when they start to get a little closer in their, fans sell out then I think that's kind, of the understanding but cubs. Fans travel well Last year, they offered tickets their home games against, the cubs for Wisconsin residents only now his last winter that's what they did before then opening them up to residents of other states so even though they first opened up the ticket offers for the home. Games against the cubs this year to his constant residents only, apparently there's either a healthy secondary market of Milwaukee Brewers fans willing to sell their tickets the cubs, fans to make some money because this is probably the series. Where they can charge a high amount of money for the tickets or the ticket sales, strictly for Wisconsin residents didn't do their job and when it was opened up to residents of other states, the cubs fans then pounds down the bundle, of tickets that were unsold There's nothing worse. Though when you are at home any visiting player hits a, home run or gets a big strikeout and the place erupts as if Something good happen for the home team when in fact it's because of the visiting team shouldn't happen I don't know people wanna. Stick up from, a walkie brewers fans but it shouldn't

"Three WRC plus and the Phillies this year they could use an upgraded shortstop, their twenty seventh and f word short seventy WRC plus Cabrera's not a good defender. So this could hurt them a little bit when they've got ground ball pitchers on the mound. He's just not a very good defender, but they're sacrificing defense for offense and it makes sense because when you look at their starting rotation, what's really help. Them is that they've got several high strikeout guys in that wrote to prevent. It's going good strikeout rate Nola Velazquez f. one, maybe you protect Cabrera a little bit in Jake Arrieta starts and just use somebody else at short kinda give Cabrera the day off. You could certainly do that, but they're sacrificing a little bit of defense for offense here, and that's not a bad play for them given the spot that they're in right now. So Cabrera really helps this lineup against right handed pitching. He's got good pop against righties when he's swinging from the left side. That's something that should help them. As we go forward here, especially you'll get their division and you look at all the teams that are throwing righties out at them. You know, when they're trying to win some of those important division games, lot of righties coming up on the schedule. So a good pick up there for the Phillies with this drubel Cabrera who can play multiple positions for first play short, can't play. Second, can't play third, but the switch hitting element very nice for them as well. On a cubs picked up Cole hamels and. You know, it's I get it. You know, the cubs need pitching, but they're really loading up on lefties. You've already got John lesser Mike Montgomery and Jose cantata. Now you get Cole hamels as well. You get the NL contenders against lefties. This lead why this is not just NL numbers three forty, five Wilbur for the Rockies that second three thirty five for the Braves as v three twenty four for the cardinals as nice, three twenty three for the Diamondbacks tenth Phillies or twentieth three. Oh to brewers three a one. Their twenty. First dodgers have been pretty good against lefties so you know, listening to move against the brewers, maybe a little bit to try and capitalize on those head to head matchups. The projection systems are good for the rest of the season. For Cole hamels is got the strikeout rate with the walks in the home runs have been a big problem. Twenty three home runs allowed already. I don't love this. Move for Chicago. Maybe they get hamels figured out. But you know, being a guy with a home run problem at Wrigley field. It's very concerning. You get some of those wins. You get some warm weather still here in the month of August. I don't love this move for the cubs. I don't think it's a really big help for them. I don't think it bolsters the rotation too much, but you know, we'll go ahead and see how this one does wind up playing out for them overall. But again, I don't think it really moves the needle too much for me the brewers with a couple of moves. They picked up Joakim Soria pen depth there, and of course not a bad thing to acquire bullpen depth at this time of the year. But they also picked up like stocks and this is a bit of a head scratcher. You know, I think the offense a profile is overrated. You know, he's a low batting, average guy this season which is dragged down his on base percentage still decent power, but it's really hard for the birds because second base was the whole that they had Mike was Dhaka's plays third base. So putting a guy out of position, whether you opt to use Travis Shari us stockists or something like that. I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense or you have to keep his for space now because the season that he's having soup. Can't put Travis show over there, but they figure the acquisition cost was worth it. They're very smart organization. They must have figured that Mustafa's or Shaw could make the transition to second base and also from Asakusa this year to thirty three Babb against right handed pitching. So if that normalizes a little bit gets it up into the to fifty range is on base percents jumps up to three thirty three forty. I, you know, maybe there's some value there in that what a minute of a head scratcher deal..

Establish winning long-term winning, because you have to send, the signals I think sometimes this gets, talked about and it's a little overblown but in this case when you have young players when the whole thing is generally, unproven when there was very little belief in this team from management at the. Start of the year and they perform this, well you do have to reward these guys baseball's different slog than any other sport, and when you've got all of those games the games are longer than any. Other sport that that anybody, pays attention to the there's more games there's twice as, many games in baseball's drawer and other sports and so for these guys the amount of, time that they're putting in the Grind is so long all the time that they spend around each other there's so, much importance in the locker, room in the culture and when I'm looking at the Phillies right now this. Team needs to have the winning culture go, and establish it now when the youth is starting to show some life show that, they deserve it Phillies are well I guess they're not in first place anymore. Right now be behind the, Braves 'cause they lost tonight to the dodgers but Either, it's a tie so either way like I'd look at it the Phillies team right now they've got a little, bit of issues you look around the division and what's happened in nationals for example are in conversations to get Cole hamels from the Rangers so a division that's. Looking to get better that's tight with the Phillies. And meanwhile the Philly's our team. That they're in first place. And for them it's there's more, negative outcomes I think that happened, if, they don't trade then if they do sure you might give up a couple of prospects to improve the team for the year but what the positive impact will be from going. And making a trade a couple of trades and being aggressive. And establishing that winning culture making that playoff push, I think it sends off so many positive signals the McClintock has. To do this he's got to be aggressive as we approach the trade deadline you're talking about the, young players confidence you're talking about instilling a little bit of confidence in Gabe Kappler and all the things that he's, been Able to do you're talking about appeal around the league that's one of the big issues for the Phillies and, you know what as much as the Yankees have this big culture about them it's because one they've had such a long history of winning and being successful and. Spending money and two they also happen to be. In New York it's a compounded. Thing but given the Phillies. Are any big market have the, big TV contract and have an, owner, that's willing to pay you've got the ability to set all of that up and become a long term Name brand kind of organization and I know that might, sound, a little silly but there's something to be said for teams that. Have a mystique about them the Lakers and the Yankees and for a? While the Knicks had it I mean they certainly don't have. It now the Cowboys for a good while had that mystique there's something about playing for those organizations you. Gotta start at some point and when you've. Got a young core, and you've got an owner that's willing to spend and you've got the opportunity with all of your assets to go..

"Going to help you as, opposed to just make the move for move sake and when I. Look at the names, that are available Yeah. I would still go. After hamels I really would I think that. He would some people were saying, last week he's. This, year's version. Of Johnson Verleger I can't go that no chance he pitching to a five Yara. Right or. Four and a half, whatever it is yeah I don't I. Think what was Verlinden when he got, traded last year was like a three that's Justin Verlander Cole hamels I? I'm, not trying to poop Cole hamels, but at this stage in his career you feel like Cole hamels is going to find the. Fountain of youth. No but he could still be a he's a. Seasoned, veterans got postseason experience at his added to. A team that's in a race he's a lefty the Red Sox. Do not hit. Lefties all that well you're not giving. Up, a ton from prospect. Stand, wide need to know how the Red Sox. Had, Cole hamels that's what I. That's what I would need to know yeah Raza. Pulses left these well right now the? Red Sox are hitting everything, well they've won twelve of thirteen they score runs in bunches just like the keys do they. Come up with clutch basis they had walk off grand Slams they. Seem, to they've got in. My, opinion if not the best player in baseball. One, of the top two or. Three and Mugabe he'll Mookie Betts is batting three sixty I know unreal and thinking about. The JD Martinez putting together Let's see Cole hamels. Against the, Red Sox I'll, look this up and try to get, it in the meantime let's go to Jim in the city what's happening Jim hey what's, up guys, realistically. Yanks picking up a you start electorate reliever Who? Do, you think it's gonna, be more importantly brilliant So Mookie Betts, is He is hitting three thirty three against Cole hamels I believe. This year no game. So that really right but it's only one. Hit one for three That's awesome This year's it's. Only twenty if you'd find the, career stats it'd be kinda cool or, just wait but maybe it is because like JD Martinez got twelve. At bats Stephen Pierce got eight at, bats so I don't know I gotta, figure this out this is a crappy website that Amman right now To. Be able to figure it out but I mean The other? Question. Is what are you giving up for Cole hamels sure other teams that are in the playoff mix race will probably be looking to add an..

"Told me and again i go way back recall i was it your son was in little league with cole hamels when did you first meet cole hamels ten years old he's a great pitcher even back then you know how it is literally i coached all the way through i never had the draft pick to get call so he was always the guy that we used to be and but you know in the also do some coaching with them but he's a great kid dumb forever and yes and my son casey claim to fame he did hit a home run hit lowly go off a call and you know and call back even back then paul fisher inside he's not afraid that great change change up he's obviously you know worked on so many things he's a much better pitcher but i i think a guy like that needs one more run and just like the way she she's the bath theaters turned himself around i think that that pedigree of warning and having the desire to win you can't under sell it at this point each guys are proven winners they've been there they'll find a way and and i know this the price tag with the yankees 'cause he you know he he's to more money than half but you know it is the yankees all spend money i will i do know this the yankees will make a couple of blue that will be pretty interesting and i think you'll come up with somebody that will help them and they better because the bottom line here is and that was one of my points on the whole column i grab he talks about oh we can't go into the postseason you know what this guy may cost shooting sunny great may cost your da l east then you're really in trouble because games he's got ten losses out of his sports and i figured out the other day with his nine losses wherever you got you know his his total loss of somebody basically severino cc tanaka i saw this guy's gonna cost you the l s and then who knows what's going to happen a one game playoff but you got burn severino yeah and my point on hamels was look there's there's really only one perfect fit for the yankees out there and i don't think he'll be dealt and that's jacob degrom if you take him off the table and say that's not happening then everybody has his flaws and my point was hamels i believe you tell me for no one is that he's you know everybody's trying of course but he's languishing for a bad rangers team and i think the competitive juices you trade him to a pennant race and i could see i'm not saying he'll be as good for the yankees as ver lander was for houston but if you're banking on somebody who has playoff pedigree and a history there that could give you that second career you know kind of renaissance and a little bump in a pennant race for my money of all the potential guys out there i'd still bank on cole hamels totally agree and and that's to me that's follow the lander deal though you know that's what that's what they asked us they were i was pushing for vert lender last year they didn't do it you know am bs which is by you know me and my my my nickname on twitter and stuff like that i you know i don't just say these things i know i write about these things because i know these things and it's like i said a month ago no way to measure trading grammar syndergaard and bobby or or anybody or bass 'cause they so think they're gonna make a run and and just to clarify dmed situation they will get a president of baseball operations and and that guy is going to make the final call in the future on everything and i think you'll probably see rico probably be the gm and you'll see the three headed thing but they're gonna be like think of the cubs theo epstein that's what the mets are gonna do they gonna bench you're going to have a guy in charge of all these other guys which is.

"And it used to be you know the way people would look at them ten years ago it was like you know they're prospects gonna end up being and that's why i don't think regardless of this rough stretch cole hamels had a ton of value to begin with and i think the you know the real value was in putting pieces together like i said with hamels or kellyn deep and i want to play a little game with you though let's go to some of the contending teams who might have interesting cole hamels and i i want to ask you if you would start cole hamels over this guy in the playoffs or you know put him ahead of this guy in the playoff rotation so i think you've got to weigh in some of these intangibles that might not be seen in the stat line so for the yankees luis severino we put ahead of cole hamels we put tabatha right now headed cole hamels yes sunny gray right now i put cole hamels sunny gray yes i agree to mingo her mind the youngster for the yankees i think i put cole hamels ahead of the mingo her mind even though domingo herrmann hasn't been bad i don't know if i'm trusting domingo her mind to go out and wouldn't be a playoff game and you know i say hasn't been bad i think he's gotten a little unlucky he does get strikeouts but you know he's given up the long ball i i start cole hamels over domingo herrmann i agree right out today okay so if masahiro tanaka comes back healthy then and i think we both agree that and he will come back healthy it's it's just he's he's got right and left hamstring issues it's an issue then i think we agree that cole hamels is comfortably the fourth starter for the yankees yeah okay competition because obviously there's three months left for the season so you named gray and the youngster that they would all be competing to be the fourth guy in the rotation jason so go to the braves i'm doing this particular order other than contending teams julio tehran and mike fulton avenue by both start over cole hamels okay no question now schon nukem i i'd probably start over cole hamels based on the fact he has been noticeably better but there is that you think but you know the braves are a team of the future i think they would start sean nukem over cole hamels but then there's anibal sanchez and i'm starting cole hamels over animals sanchez yeah you'd have to honestly i don't have his numbers obviously driving in front of me i'd have to see the numbers to tell you yes or no on that one so sanchez this year i'll give you an idea and a lot of this on the on basing off the fact that the experiences there sanchez has an era right around three but he's got a fifth over four and he's only thrown fifty three innings and i think for me there's questions of sustainability my my guess is that come september one anabol sanchez's era is way closer to four than it is to three that would be competition there sure spot the phillies aaron nola jake arrieta zaka flynn you're all starting over cole hamels the question right now probably becomes it's twofold jared i cough when he comes back and the nick pathetic you look what he's doing he's got any ram four and a half probably as pitch better than his era but i think if you're philadelphia if you if you're interested i think cole hamels starting for you that would be honestly i would think that would be hamels dream situation there if you go back to philadelphia the problem is is obviously atlanta's ahead of washington driving a horrible year to the talent they have on the team so philadelphia obviously would need to make a five game series right now it'd be a one game wild card but i think they would be more likely to give cole hamels maybe the ball in game three even if he might not a hundred percent deserve it just because of what he's done for that city in that team in the history of it if that makes any sense does all right we're gonna take a quick pause here for station identification listen to mike bassett myself jared sandler rangers extra innings tigers over the ranger seven to posture station identification this is the exclusive home if you're rangers three the fan krld fm hd one dallas fort worth radio dot com station are my quickly.
