"In january of eighteen ninety a group of fifteen prominent nobles impression court elites left for berlin by sleigh ride for a weekend giant to grundwaldt castle in the woods to the west of the city. They were invited there by the kaiser's sister princess charlotte and the idea was that they would all go and have an ice skating party for treating to the lodge for warm drinks and general merriment. The party was a triumph and when the skating was over. The group congregated before the fireplace at grunewald red-nosed and frostbitten. They were moved their wet clothing and left them out to dry. And then the attendance of these skating party found that they could come up with a few fun ways of getting warm the day after they all arrived back at their homes. Every attendee of the skating trip to grow involved received a letter in the mail. It had no return address and no signature. The handwriting was strange. Someone writing in all block letters to disguise their script or to make it appear as though someone else was writing. Each letter contained terrible accusations about the person's conduct that evening at grunewald lurid sexual accusations complete with detailed illustrations and pasted pornographic photographs. The letters contained specific details and nicknames. That only inner members of the kaiser circle could possibly know and to make matters worse. The accusations were all true. It had to been someone who attended that skating party at grunewald but nobody knew who the letters were from so began a scandal that spanned four years arrests but no finite answers. It's a scandal that proves that pettiness and anonymous god. I've been a long far longer than tabloids and social media the story which came to be known as the cuts affair after the man who was eventually arrested for the letters is a real life version albeit an x. Rated one of a mrs whistle down from britain or the economist blog from gossip girl. These letters are our one and only source into the lives of oppression elite but the consequences level in the letters and around the letters themselves would eventually be deadly. I'm danish warts and miss noble blood as with any mystery. The first step is to introduce the characters in balked or depending on how you look at it. At the suspects there were fifteen people nine men and six women who participated in by what most accounts refer to as an orgy in which multiple people were involved in a number of both hetero and homosexual entanglements. But we'll get to those details a little bit later for now. let's just start with one of the evenings. Attendees duke ernst gunther of schleswig holstein. Duke ernst gunther had a bit of a reputation to save. At least he was nicknamed the ran for his sexual appetite. Like a ram in spring. And there's even a story about the duke. Losing one of his elite military medals the one that designated him as a knight of the black eagle in the bed of a berlin prostitute. Who to her credit took it to the police. Duke ernst sister. Augusta was married to kaiser wilhelm the second which made him the emperor's brought in law duke ernst was married himself to a highly connected princess but that didn't stop the duke from his philandering ways in fact his high marriage and even higher marriage of his sister made the duke feel. Almost bullet proof. There seemed to be no act of misbehavior that his money and power couldn't get him out of an a brief aside here for some noble blood family tree. Connectivity duke ernst gunther wife princess. Dorothea was the daughter of prince philip of saxe. Coburg gotha been one of the close friends of the crown prince rudolf among the group who discovered his body at mayor ling and princess dorothea the granddaughter of leopold the second of belgium and we spoke about in connection with his bloody genocidal practices in congo. But back to the actual attendees of this notorious a skating party there were of course presents the count. And countess von hoffman. How the count friedrich von however now was notorious for his same sex dalliances but if anything his wife was even more notorious impression citing the countess nickname look was taller than her husband by at least ahead she was also his senior by four years and in addition to being taller than her husband she was also sportier better at riding horses and better at finding male lovers. The countess would count among her. Paramore's the future reich. Chancellor max von baden and harbored on bismarck. Social secretary in the foreign ministry and one of the countesses former lovers was also in attendance at the skating. Party friedrich karl von hessen. Whose affair with the countess now ended when he married the emperor's younger sister marguerite which made friedrich car-o-van has an another of the kaiser's brothers in law but the opposite way which there should be a different word for him being married to one of the kaiser sisters and not because the kaiser was married to one of his. All of this is to say it was an incredibly intimate connected and intertwined group of nobles who were at greenbelt. But it wasn't just no bullets at the party. There were also a handful of prominent court. Bureaucrats including liberal von could set the chamberlain and master of ceremonies for the german imperial court. His name cuts has the unfortunate distinction of translating into the adjective form of the word puke in english. Which means that. If you like me are unable to speak german and are forced to rely on google. Translate for a number of primary sources. You will find that his name. Lebron von cooksey translates in english to write from vomit in the years prior to the notorious. A get together at gruenwald cut. His life was improving rapidly. He had married a woman from an old brandenburg noble family and he continued to excel in his position as master of ceremonies. He had the close personal confidence of the kaiser. And even though he wasn't a born noble himself he inadvertently found himself closer to the inner circle of the court. Then many men with more prominent births including another chamberlain and master of ceremony. Who also was attending the party. A man named karl von schrader schrader who had attended with his wife wasn't alone in his jealousy of coats zach but there was very little he could do other than wait.

"Crown Prince Wilhelm was the son of the last Kaiser. He was actually the son of a man with two titles, Kaiser of Germany and King of Prussia. Until eighteen seventy one prussia was one of a number of sovereign states within the German, confederation? In eighteen seventy one, these states became the German empire and the hohenzollern family became its emperors. Kaiser will home the second went to war against two of his first cousins King and Czar of England and Russia, respectively in. World. War One. And his oldest son Crown. Prince Wilhelm was obviously expected to show his bravery and composure on the battlefield in a leadership position. The crown prince was in his thirty s when World War One began and he patriotic as any German was thrilled at the notion of expansion and the sharing of teutonic glory all over Europe. As. A prominent noble. He was, of course given command of entire field army regardless of the fact that he was completely unqualified and had done nothing with his twenties more notable than having an affair with the opera singer Geraldine Farrar. Crown Prince Wilhelm had the misfortune of being born as a prince while the idea of monarchy in Europe was facing a major reckoning. Famously the devastation of World War One can be in part attributed to nineteenth century tactics and twentieth century technology. A similar mismatch was play with Europe's royal families at the time. Crown Prince. Wilhelm had be lineage and ego of the absolute monarchs in the country no longer willing to give him any real power. And so the Crown Prince Wilhelm was technically the commander of the military's fifth army. He had a chief of staff with actual experience who would be actually you know doing the work. It was understood and expect and that Crown Prince Wilhelm would defer to his chief of staff on all important military decisions. But the crown prince still got to wear the salish and badges of a commander. The most noteworthy thing that Crown Prince Wilhelm was actually involved in the war for my money is having an affair with the performer known as Mata Hari who would be offered a million francs by the French military for German grits attempt to double, cross them with the Germans, and then face execution by a French fire Swat when the Germans left out to dry. Now this would be a much longer and a much different podcast if I were to go into all of the details about the military maneuvers of the First World War, those details are fascinating and I encourage you to read more about them. But for now I think it suffices to say that at the end of the war Germany was in freefall each generation of young men had been wiped out in the senseless bloodshed of trench warfare. Three, million Germans fifteen percent Germany's men were killed. While the German army stood facing the precipice of true and genuine defeat, it's demoralized soldiers began to splinter in revolt against the aristocrats who had put them in that position to begin with. I there was a mutiny at sea by naval officers. Then, coming in from the coasts, the masses demanded change. A socialist uprising was bubbling within Germany. The nation was going to become a republic at any cost. On, November nine with the crowd gathering in Berlin, the Kaiser and his closest advisers realized that they had no choice. The Kaiser. Resigned his royal title. As did his son the crown prince. Privately the former Kaiser. Believed that even though he had technically abdicated his title as Kaiser, he could still hold some power as the king of pressure. It's the type of Naievety. That almost looks adorable in retrospect like someone on the titanic asking to make sure their tea is still out by the time they get back. Both the former Kaiser and former crown sprints had to flee Germany in order to protect themselves from their own people's revolt. They went through Belgium and wrote a train across the border to the Netherlands a country that was neutral under Queen Wilhelmina. The allied powers tried in vain to extradite the former Kaiser in order to charge him for war crimes. A Queen Wilhelmina was neutral and wanted to make a clear point to the rest of Europe as to her nations autonomy. And so the Kaiser would go on to buy a big house enduring and live in exile in another lund's for the rest of his life. stewing about his wrongful forced eviction and blaming the Jews for sabotage Germany. War One from within. One more interesting thing happened to the former. Kaiser. Not entirely relevant to the story but I think worth mentioning just because it seems surreal to me that Ben Affleck hasn't made it into a movie at. In January nineteen, nineteen, a former Tennessee senator named Luke Lee who had just been serving as a colonel in France attempted to kidnap the former Kaiser and bring him to justice. Like most American soldiers, Lee was frustrated that Kaiser Bill as he call, him was just going to get away with it. To have caused so much death and then just go on to live a quiet life in a pastoral Dutch village somewhere it seemed unimaginable. After the War Lee Happened to stumble into a party where he met the Duke of cone yacht, the uncle of both King George the fifth and the Kaiser. With the blase attitude of the blue blooded. The Duke mentioned offhandedly that no one was going to make a real fuss about the kaiser now that he was an exile. Of course, they were all embarrassed by the Kaiser. The British royal family had changed their last night in one thousand, nine, seventeen from Saxe Coburg Gotha to the more neutral sounding Windsor in order to avoid those Pesky German associations. But nobility was nobility. The, noble like the wealthy. Like to protect their own. or at least to try to prevent them from ever facing any actual consequences. But luckily was a good southern boy who instinctively bristled against the insular comradery of the elite. And so he took matters.

"Plenty of meat and fish. Out of legs of lamb at the butch that I particularly favor for a leg of lamb. That's the kind of thing people can kind of put in the freezer isn't it? Yeah so there's no shortage of actual food is shortage of things. It put coming boxes and things out of paper white so fleet but I think there is a shortage of things as well. I mean my my. My wife was shopping yesterday. I think and she said that there was a massive Q. Of the bushes like people out the door around this is what freezes. Well maybe because all all the freezers are out of stock and I tried to buy two freezes. I couldn't I couldn't sold out online. I don't try to run. I tried to that was a joke about stockpiling freezes. I thought I was GONNA say twos barely enough. I tried to buy a dozen. Get the bulk discount. And they wouldn't let me. They said I'm sorry sir. There is a limit of ten. Didn't you LAVAR thing? Last week is refusing to take stuff back from people who had gone board and then decided. Oh I kinda she saw this from mockup on Ebay they try and take it back sucked. I'm glad I'm fine in case you're wondering I'm fine for toilet paper I because you're constantly I work much sleep. You told me you didn't go. Child go at school and my wife. I make ago at her work of of ten taps off on all that toilet yet. Have away on the lemon tree and you can go at work and not test. I put new rolls of toilet paper on Saturday and in one of and one new on. Today's that's eleven days to go through on top of it so I'm I live in a house with us so much toilet by well. They did you talk to them and say you know that we can't buy now. Don't you been keeping newspapers and say Mama Daddy surely surely you can send cast his down and he waited in line from from early in the morning to win? The supermarket opened. Surely cast is do that for us. Indeed Papa can you could for his hand. Well that's how that's how I have friends. The ever have to stoop to doing their own. Business the sex Coburg Gotha Battenberg suspect the could welby boom in bummed guns. You know what that is. All across Asia they have those little watery jets bicycling cleanses by what is effectively shower. Head onto onto your behind. And it's very cleansing. I must say however the things that I learned about domestic habits however require the the post spray. I'm sure none of our all of our listeners. I'm sure all listeners have be days and don't even need to paper wondering what we're talking about this. I never seen in the first place. It's great to be a plumber. I heard a plumber. Saying he's called at six times. Two in one day to fix toilets of people had shoved the wrong stuff down moist really not supposed to know. She's London suicide. Being destroyed by using the fat words of fat taught blocking up plumbers it just rubbing their hands together. An ordering together with soap. Well for twenty-second while singing twice. Yes I just can't 2020 special song or anything like that. So you learned to count high so to sing you the listener need no admonitions from us or any kind of talk about what you should do. Because you already know what to how I'm watching the fortieth season of something that generated a whole new style of television and was groundbreaking created. Just I loved is well. Yeah the forty say the season. I am watching of course watching survivor. Stool a great show. How many seasons do you think you've watched well? I was saying earlier that I missed a couple. Because I'm very slow. You know and it went from the normal channel nine somewhere else somewhere digital didn't know about and so I missed the two three maybe four seasons so probably any. What's thirty six out of the of the American version of cigarettes? I watched a bit of the first one and it was diagnosed. It was the first one which one the one with ends lapaglia brother. Malcolm Lapaglia Kieran Lapaglia. Toby Toby Lapaglia brother anyway. That's wasn't very this. One is hosted by Jeff. Probst as it has always been hosted by Jeff. Probst one of the great hosts of hosts. Everybody knows what this show is about. I don't need you to tell you what it's about but try spoken. That's I know about you win. A million bucks right except this year this anniversary and win a million bucks run. You win two million bucks on the covert Nineteen Vaccine. So you really have survived well. It's an amazing thing. It's just people. It's a social experiment. Of course it's like some of the great social experiments done in the nineteen sixties. You put a bunch of people together such as married at first side seventy switch and you see what you see what what happens in basically they gang up on one another. They vote each other out. They fight they squabble. They Beka and the person who's been clever enough to deal with all their enemies and somehow knock it themselves voted off is the one that every at the end everybody votes to stay in. It's it's a strange and exciting show. I have real problems with the show. It's a show that kids watch. Do they came. So do the kids watch whatever is on and tell me not watching the whatever? They can watch on my laptop in their bedroom so I don't have to see their parents. That's what is okay. Good it has so much hassle while building you swap out of toilet paper bottom and this is a show that I just think it demonstrates the worst behavior imaginable suicide done. Okay okay sorry. I'm not saying as distinct from Oh okay. Pot of saying that while you will will sit in judgment upon the likes of those showers. Yes I think you ought to also examine the kind of behavior that is exhibited on on the likes of survivor eighties. It's true seat. False true people tell lies in order to maintain their position within the tribe okay. It's also true that it's a game and one of the most enjoyable things about this show is seeing how deeply hurt and upset people get when somebody lied to them. And it's the whole point of this game is to make sure that you don't get voted off. And so what if you do within the rules and the rules? You know nobody had to punch anybody or drown any violence not allowed. I'm sure like in the other. Other shows have psychiatrists on there to help the weak and the lame with the personal issues that they bring along to this game who knows why by extensively have experts but loses sight. Ostensibly is the big so it this. This particular one is called winners. I think maybe winners and champions or something. Everybody in the game so far has already won survivor at least once. One couple H. One like husband wife. They've before they were each one once and they made it like a survivor of on survival and the mile. He's named Boston Rob. He was voted out and the woman that that he was like became romantically involved. As much as you can do on a show like that puts tug on your way. She won that season he wanted subsequent season. Himself is a wound called Sandra who won twice and she's very enjoyable character to to watch in her first season. She did things like hide. Everybody's shoes in the bushes and tip had all the fish that they'd Coordi- play these mental games and and sort of looking at ti wonders. It was she who looks like the type of person to tip the fish doesn't she? She knew we were going to fight. And things like that. It's the regional winner of the very very first one Richard Hatch He. He's he's been in a couple I think I think he's not going to be invited back on the strengthening on a couple issues with him walking around in the New Year which is at the factories nyquil the fact that he's Chubby and I think the fact that people felt he was being he's he's physical presence was threatening imposing standing too close to Harvey Weinstein. The yes yes but I can remember the first. The first episode there was a woman. Attract driver called Susan. This is the season one and she says to Richard his works in corporate world in marketing. Or something like that. And he's positioned himself on top of tree like none and acquired straddling a branch where he's physically like on a throne of everybody else in this new. No one's nose just saying hello and he's just sitting there very casually in this truck drivers say you know man the corporate world. It's not going to work here. This is a jungle. It's dog eat. Dog is going on here. Okay you probably right. Yeah all those Mind Games. You guys play. It's not gonNA work here and it's going okay. You probably didn't of course that's the whole thing he wins. And and all those mind games and all those psychological levers that you use in your regular life in whatever world during the corporate world I mean your in your Di to dial around making deals people then betraying them than acting deceitfully. I'm naming issues. For instance okay. I'm not a real estate agent so obviously no. I can't tell you that you know what I do. You know what I did for leaving. And yes sometimes yes has to make compromises for ones. Us obviously it. Of course we could say that survivor is the reason that Donald trump is president of the US. Shali Passan's I think is the name of the producer who also put together a show called Liberal Frances apprentice or the apprentice. Donald TRUMP FOUND HIMSELF GETTING. He was already a well known person but became tremendously famous of the back of that show. He then put together a show. I'm going to say it's called the Bible it's a TV series dreamt station of the Old Testament. And there's another one which is the New Testament and the Old Testament one. They've got this character walking around with a cow supposed to be Satan of Barack Obama so they've got BRAC. Obama is the devil in this man looking just like if it's very odd odd show. I'm I'm a bit of a sucker for Biblical drama. I have to say that's probably why like survivor. Because it is the ultimate put to good use on an island with mainly white Americans all at each other's throats. Yea WELL I don't I don't have to watch a car but if he's going to have to go back to season one you're going to have to go back one one through forty. What a success. Imagine a show that you put two seasons of on a year year in year at your no matter what the inflation rate is you still any giving them a million dollars. You sign the participants of these outrageous contracts full of these clauses that they basically have to do what if you tell them to from the end of the show will the end of their life and all that to speak or write or talk all these what they call those clauses nondisclosure agreements them? Yeah it's incredible and it's and it's still as entertaining as ever so the guy accredited is what Celli Passan's he's the.

Yes pretty much as you'd expect so it is kind of you know by the to a degree but it also resisted the most sort of of the sort of trump temptations to go into familiar territory eight. It carved a path that I would say is not blindingly original But it was convincing and powerful and pretty compelling and the thing the thing that really drives. You're watching Ben. Affleck is most role playing a character. Who would I'd imagine not a million miles from Ben Affleck in that? This is a guy who's who struggles with alcohol can stuffing up his life. Yeah Pretty Public Right. I counted not. He's not he's he's married to Jennifer Garner and and he was basically in a terrible terrible site he was just just a mess right and it was very public. There was that I don't know if you've ever seen this this video that was done at the time of the press tool for that man Versus Superman Yup and this famous bit of footage of him being interviewed he was doing the press junket and I think it was with Henry. Cavill who plays Superman and they just sitting there and Affleck just looks so on engaged. Yeah he just he's just like out of it not he's not present at all and some wag has been footage over from Simon and Garfunkel Zander. Silence Hello Darkness Milo friend. And he's just looking like the most depressed human being on the planet and because we can laugh at this well this become like a a thing I mean it went off and it was a mean mean just getting used to that would been able to use it correctly in a conversation that you feel free to keep using it will help me maybe one day be able to throw it in a conversation with Youth and a p like. I know what I'm talking about it. We saw very fine and it was. I think fairly representative of where his life was at that point in time all right guy walls in hall is in a very dark place. I on the on the school that says Ben. Affleck terrible human being terrible terrible. Drifta think. He's got some he's got some some. You know some chops as an actor definitely go. He's position On the totem pole some people would people in the whole home. People love to hate on them. I'll notice that if I notice it at all when it's directed at a female actress some Caucasian and a lot of that. Yeah did you also come on love? It's it's handled pretty nicely. You get a lot of game footage and then you just get like a freeze frame. And then it'll give the score of the guy and it just tells you with our on that towards being less crap than they were really efficient and I like that good but you know it's really I think it's about the performance it's about this guy being in the pits him and the journey something that is not the pits but certainly not the top either You know and it's I think it's it's pretty honest and decent convincing US. Netflix documentary called the Royal House of Windsor. So so non-aligned do they. Trace the royal family from Queen Victoria to Kate Middleton but it gives fans of another series which is the crown of valuable British history. Lesson tracing the House of Windsor. Because I think we can all agree that if let's say you're an American I'm not sure what this is like for other parts of the world but Americans Know Jack Squat about the British minor Martin Monarchy in British history we have a very limited scope of it so the documentary expertly voiced over by Gwilym Lee. It traces the evolution of the Windsor family. Whose name was changed from Saxe? Coburg Gotha to Windsor to make it sound more British and more importantly less German one of the most illuminating stories covered in the crown but covered even more thoroughly in the Royal House of Windsor was the story of the first Duke and Duchess of Windsor said. The king entered the eighth and his wife Wallace Warfield Simpson and American from Baltimore Maryland. Now while the crown showed the negative after effects of the abdication of King Edward the eighty eighth the former Prince of Wales. The Royal House of Windsor Takes the point of view the different point of view of the events. So the Royal House of Windsor alleged is that King Edward. The eighth actually did the British people favor as World War Two could have turned out very differently for the UK. If King Edward the eighth a fascist and German sympathizer had been on the throne instead of his brother King. George the six for this reason. Some of the experts on the Royal House of Windsor believed that the British public should. I'd be grateful to Wallace Simpson because they all hated her. Remember like who's this divorce say. Who by the way doesn't even look like a pretty lady who's clearly like sleeping with other people these two freak shows You know they could have been king and queen but thank God for the abdication because this is would have really happened if they had been head of the monarchy and by the way I kind of agree with them. The Royal House of Windsor also explained that the name Windsor was created during the reign of George. The fifth now but Queen Victoria is thought to be. The mother of the House of Windsor. Part of the series examines. The weddings of the House of Windsor from Queen Victoria Victoria who was said to have had meet a white wedding dress. The color that exists through today for many Western brides to the wedding. Kate Middleton and Prince William the large part of the Royal House of Windsor is about how the name Windsor came into being when it was determined. Not The royal family of Great Britain was to make a conscious move away from Germany as one would expect act. It was obvious that the family name Saxe Coburg Gotha wasn't going to work and so a new name had to be chosen. So several names were bandied about including Tudor Stuart implanted Janette. Like horrible name. Sotoudeh was the best known name. But the link with Henry the eighth and his wives made it a non starter. So Windsor was the name of the beloved. The castle and Gardens and the name Windsor sounded English. In so Windsor eight became so. Let's not even that long ago. So you know it's kind of like a modern story in terms of people coming up with stage name right. They totally changed the family name. And so with all the talk in names last names the names of dynasties in royal families a segment of the Royal House of Windsor Focuses on Prince Phillip. And in my opinion this is the most captivating part of the story so of course. He's the husband of Queen Elizabeth now. He was born Prince. Philip of Greece and Denmark and the house of Schleswig Holstein sonderbergh Luxembourg Prince. Philip's mother was a Battenberg. Battenberg lays which was anglicized mountbatten by Prince Prince. Philip's uncle Louis Mountbatten now in principle Philip started school in the UK. He assumed the name mouthon however when Prince Philip married then princess insys Elizabeth. He assumed that she would take his name and that their children also would be known as mountbatten but he was mistaken because guided by his uncle. Louise Mountbatten Prince Prince Phillip Lead the Royal Family should become the House of Manhattan and that was the argument that Prince. Philip Wanted Queen Elizabeth to make to parliament into the new prime minister but Prince Philip. Complain plane that he was the only man in England whose children don't have their last name. Of course he lost to that. But I love this documentary because it really goes into the history of Prince Philip. His family was a little bit bananas. And so you see these perfect people and that's why the documentary is so great because it kind of picks away at all these characters and you realize he's people have a super messed up family like we all do which is great another very jarring thing. Is that George George the fifth so that's Queen Elizabeth's father other looks enormously like his cousin first cousin Czar Nicholas the second. Of course Nicholas was the last emperor of Russia ruling from November first to eighteen ninety four until his forced abdication March Fifteenth Nineteen. Seventeen if you have seen the other tutors program on Netflix. That story is insane to watch. His reign saw the fall fall of the Russian empire from one of the foremost great powers of the world to an economic and military collapse and with his family. He was imprisoned by the Bolsheviks and executed in July lie. Nine hundred eighteen one of the great stories not a great story not like happy story but a captivating story that this royal family was is executed. So if you look at the side by science it is super freaky super freaky to see. Just how much. They looked alike so again. The House of Windsor. I'm not flex and I'm cut some great news I'm going to be interviewing in executive from true royalty. TV in England who makes makes a ton of documentaries on the royal family. And I'm going to ask him all the burning questions we have about. What's going really going on right now? Between Kate Middleton and Meghan markle because this is essentially British reality TV. It's just upper crust and of course we're all captivated around the world. I mean we all love to watch stuff about the royal family and so I love this so watch that so good now my son and I have also been watching with sisters a really really good show on the discovery channel. I want you guys to check it out. It is called expedition unknown. It's great if you have kids or if you don't if you like everything thing to do with the discovery channel and history check that out that's a really great show now this episode. I'm really excited about. Because they got a chance to talk to Andrew Andrew. Jenks you guys know Andrew is. He has been written about a ton of different places because he's critically acclaimed documentarian. He is a fantastic podcast series series. Actually two of them and this series is about a man who took on the American justice system. After his son Ryan was sentenced to prison for a murder they claimed to not have committed so in the two thousand fifteen documentary. Bill Ferguson took on the judiciary along house alongside powerhouse Kathleen Zellner. You've seen her in a million true crime things. This woman is the most bad ass. Defense attorney that you can imagine she. She represented Steven Avery in court. She is unbelievable so she took on the case and she is really responsible for helping Ryan get out of prison so it looks into the two thousand one murder of a man named Ken Hide Hold. He was found dead in his work car park and had been strangled with his own belt so tier two years after his death the case was still unsolved but police were offered a fresh lead after an anonymous call tip them off to a local man named Charles. Chuck Erickson so after attending a few different Halloween parties on the night of the murder. Chuck was said to have been taking drugs and admit his seventeen year. Old Friend Ryan Ferguson. That was about ten thirty PM. Nobody said he couldn't remember anything else afterwards. So speaking about the crime he said I didn't know if it was memory or if it was a dream I assume that if I'd done it Ryan and I did needed to get more money for drinks. He assumed so he didn't know for sure. But he makes the statement and then incriminate himself alongside Ryan in a police interview which was later picked up by the FBI and this is all shown in the film so on one occasion. Speaking Police Ryan was told his friend information. Information of things that were never released to the Press Ryan was adamant that he had no idea what had happened. Kevin Crane state prosecutor who Lord help his family after the after people. Watch this because this this man really is terrible. He issued a press release saying that chuck had been and charged with murder in the second degree. And that Ryan Ferguson was being charged with the murder in the first degree so two years past and Ryan who is now twenty stood trial. The main evidence was testimony from Chuck Erickson. Who talked of memories that had come to him since speaking to police memories like what and this is also from a drug addict addict so Ryan's Dad's starts his own investigation Afria Sun and but although he presented new leads the judge still refuse to grant a retrial denied his appeal so eventually unsually Kathleen Zellner? This great attorney proves that Ferguson was innocent. Conflicting evidence was pressed presented in the case for example. A pair of bloody shoeprints repairable the cream crime scene seemingly from the attacker because they were leading away from Hyde holds body. And the shoeprints didn't match Ericsson's or Ferguson according to CBS yes and that fingerprints at the scene also implied the president presence of another killer because they didn't belong to either man so Ryan is finally released from prison after ten in years. And then you get to see him reunited with his family but it really kind of presents this this very real issue about the people that are imprisoned when they're innocent and what happens to them after prison. Can they get acclimated back into the real world and finally I think it's a great project because because it really shows the love of a father for a son it's really really sweet to see really.

They told us you'll be in the Laurie for four to six hours. But in fact, we spent thirty seven hours the metal plates in my body from the accident was so cold and painful, we had nothing to eat just water. Somewhere in the Czech Republic. They were told to get down and hide for a day and night. In would then they will picked up by van then switch to a car. Finally, the driver told him he was in Germany. He turned himself into the police, and we sent here to an open refugee camp in Gaza. Had our now, I'm in Germany. I've already applied for refugee status. The next step would be to bring my family here. They are sad. And I'm also sad because of them. Chat several times a day to his wife and three small children. They're still near Mosul in Iraq. The youngest was just a few months old when he lost saw him. Now, he can walk. They're missing him. But bringing the over won't be easy. The political climate in Germany is turning against asylum-seekers. Vista spoon. Disarmed in Tokyo to a cafe to meet secret, a youth integration leader from the evangelical church in Gotha. They can start an integration course. Even before. They're granted protection. Listens patiently, but for him integration into German society can only begin when his family arrives. If they cannot join him. He would rather go back and live with them in the ruins of Mosul. And that was Nick Thorpe in Germany talking to one of the survivors of a minibus crash in Hungary last year.
