He's be getting ahead of anybody wanted to go out there early this morning and putting the chain restrictions out. We are giving AH lot of rain and snow in the mountains right now, but no major incidents of crashes out there. Coco's next real time traffic update. 7 10. All right. Let's check in with 10 news meteorologist begging Perry. Hey, Meghan. Hey. Good morning. A cold winter storm will bring rain and mountain snow. Today, Coast inland areas will average between about 4/10 of an inch in an inch of rainfall. Showers Taper off early tomorrow. The coast in the valleys in the mid upper fifties. Today with San Diego's most accurate forecast, I maybe see 10 news meteorologist Meghan Perry right now in La Mesa. 49 degrees Rancho Bernardo is 48 downtown. Mostly cloudy and 56 Kogo news time 702 and looking at the little blowing, so it looks like most of the snow has stopped around Mount Laguna. But now the winds kicked up, so it's blowing around. So you know, kind of the same thing. Mother nature, making it up to us for not giving us that white Christmas in the mountains and winter storm warning in effect in that area until early tomorrow morning, meteorologist James Brotherton says the storm is going to make for some treacherous driving conditions. Every snow in the mountains above. 4 to 5000 ft. We could see for the snow above. Try 5000 ft or so so we do have that winter storm warning still, in effect for for the mountains. Scattered showers expected across the county. Up to a half inch of rain possible along the coast have to two inches in the mountains and foothills, and we have a high surf advisory in effect until Wednesday morning. Love to check on the Obi Pierre. The stay at home order in San Diego County will likely be extended as I see you. Bed remains.

And we book them out I think we have them until january. Where every two weeks for about two or three days every time they come and So our schedule is pretty tight. We brew For two weeks we don't ever really have a lot of extra package or beer on hand. It's It is on schedule that every two weeks. It gets flipped over. So we're pretty good. Yeah that's pretty much going to what every restaurant in town every public town and yeah whistler we got I think it's about ninety five pubs and restaurants one hundred fifteen one hundred sixteen liquor licenses last time i checked and we sell to Well pre cove it. It was just over sixty pubs and restaurants. Now we're at about forty five or so obviously the draft slowdown tremendously. Everybody's gonna tell the same story So the package stuff. pre covid. We were Whistler only without it's about Five six liquor stores and We had a huge expansion to squamish and north to pemberton. We're in about maybe nine liquor stores or so total We don't take anything down to the city and it's just Another reason for you to get off your couch and come visit us up the guy with that. Though i mean some breweries have started shipping direct to your door. I mean like. Is that something you've considered or are you just still like just trying to keep up with with what's immediately here so i think probably the latter with with some of the former. We want to be able to do that in in the time ahead here in the not too distant future because It's it's really do want to get our beer in the hands of those. That wanted out. "Tanks down here is where the beer is kept. But i only have four fermenters upstairs so if i want to make pill sir i have to do it in the spring kind of thing when it's still slow because once against the summertime is just full go with all of the other brands right so if somebody was wanting to get into bring themselves would be some advice. You could give him to make better beer. Well i think that you always wanna learn from someone else kinda thing. You know like every job. I've ever gone to learn something new and it might actually even be how not to do it kind of thing but it's always good like i think it's always good advice to ask questions of other people that brew like you know even my professional friends now if i have a question as to how they did something i just ask them. And you know. I would say that most north american brewers will tell you almost everything you want to know about their beer. Even give you the recipe sheets whereas there's sort of a divide in the world of ruin because a lot of the european brewers are families who've been passing these recipes down for generations and generations. And maybe even five hundred years and they won't even tell you you know what kind of malted barley us in their in their beer and it's because they don't want you to steal their recipe but north americans are not like that you know we're all happy to share the information and it's because the beer industry gets better and better every year like i remember when i got into it. Maybe only like half the berries. The you go to would be really even worth trying to beer sometime. Ooh this one's a little bit too thin or this one's gotta contamination or this one is just around eastern it but now it's almost hard to find a bad beer mean all of the basically have to make good beer and it's because if you don't you're not going to make it so i would say that. Yeah like if you wanna get into britain you gotta try to find a job and i have a lot of people come to the group up here. That are trying to find a job. But we're only a that employs one. That's me so you're gonna have to wait for me..

"But the wheels fell off that clan. And you know that's about as close as we can get to our own california here. Well hey i went from c. Sky like this afternoon right. But what more can you want. So how long has the High mountain brewing been here and What what do you focus on. Well this is a really big group up. I don't know how many other brewpubs are larger than this. I think mission springs seats. Eight hundred people and i think there's a couple that are in the group. Is this but this place seats like i think. At six hundred and fifty years seven hundred and two sides. There's a restaurant and pub upstairs on the other side. Yeah really patio which we're expanding this next year. But you know this place was built in ninety seven opening night seven. It has been like one of the most successful restaurants i think here in whistler and it is really like a machine when it is at full blown summer or full-blown ski season kind of thing. It is just churning out the products and in fact. It's the reason why we don't do any packaged product or any kegs or anything like that. And it's because this. This berry was only designed to serve beer in house fact on a really busy summer day. Not that we've really had that this year because of our reduced capacity but on a busy summer day i can look at the glass on the beer tank and actually see the volume of the beer moving in real time like a sundial. Like it's almost the shift i gotta go home. Yeah exactly and so. This is the reason why. I'm here is all weights and it's because i'm always concerned about having enough beer on tap here well which leads me to my next question. How big is that brew house. I mean we can see it from here like it's it's upstairs areas which is slightly odd You know the space reminds me a lot of friends of the podcast. Your hair looks awful. Go put on a hat. So this is what I hate that. Trav- your hair looks awful. Go put on ABC. Wait a minute make us on her. Might just relaying. What happened five minutes before play guy either way quarantines getting us? It's getting a lot of time spent together and you know we somewhat too much time. We're used to spending a lot of time together but court excuse me. Quarantine is a little bit of a different animal. I do not hate the hat. I hate this. You literally said I hate this head a little too flat for me but anyway regardless British Columbia and we love the breweries in British Columbia. Yes today this is part of our quarantine. Diaries session so you can watch us on. If you're watching it then you get to see that if you're listening on the podcast and you do want to see our faces our situation and see what had a might wear for the next one. You can go do our instagram at extra packing peanuts and check it out there. So these are shorter. Form unedited podcast. That we're putting in addition to a regular Tuesday longer form podcasts. So that you have more wanderlust more travel love in your ears during the quarantines as we all go a little bit stir quarantine that's like during the quarantine it is now. I think a proper now. I think it should be Catholic. Quarantine entreprenuering quarantine and so what we've been doing recently and what we're going to do today is our best of series and this is where we pick a destination today. British Columbia Heather has a few card down there. She mixes them up and then she asked us and we don't prep for this at all. What our best memories of this specific places so today. We're doing a whole province and it's GonNa be hard because we spent a lot of time in British Columbia and we've gone all around British Columbia. Obviously we spend a ton of time in Victoria. Think Hoover Islands part of British Columbia? Spending time in Vancouver. We've been up to whistler. We'd been out to the Okinawa Gin. So it's going to be hard to pick somewhere places but hey that's what happens. That's the tough job of being travel. Podcast SO WE HAVE DESTINATION. Diaries and we have one. I'm pretty sure on Vancouver so we don't have one. I think on the whole of British Columbia. So you'll be getting some new content here with this little mini series. And I guess we should just jump right in. Let's do it okay. The first card is oh how appropriate best during so. I've been thinking a lot about this. And she told me redoing British Columbia literary four minutes ago and there have been a lot of places that we've drank at Including Vancouver we one time. We're in Vancouver for twenty one days and I did twenty one breweries and twenty days and I was pregnant so I did zero breweries. I mean I went to them but yeah so and we've spent a lot of time in Victoria. And some great wineries out in the Okinawan and all but for me. I think it will come back to a beer. Coast Mountain honorable mention and because of the hat. Awesome little brewery up in squamish tackling games. Garmisch just south of whistler fun little place cool like everything wanting to bury small little joint. That heather actually stayed in the car because again. I think you're pregnant at that point and she took a nap. I just went in and had a little flight by myself. You know really neat. People could be the coast from the brewery. No but it's called coast to Coast Mountain. Which is also a weird name. My name like it's just a weird. You're just taking two words and putting them together but it works and I love the hat and I'd like to branding but my number one favorite. So it's not honorable mention. Okay right you told me that we could go longer than fifteen minutes. Because now we have a compressor so we can put it on. Igt No if you read our post from last week. But I had the hardest time trying to get our videos out because if you video over fifteen minutes you have to do it from your granddaughter and it has to be an MP anyway. It was a whole long saga. But I bought the software. Because what does one do? I mean we needed. We needed to get the videos to you. We needed to get the videos. You so then Heather told. I said we are GONNA be fifty minutes is going to be hard for British Columbia said. Oh no no we got we got the compressor we can do want so. My overall favorite drink is strathcona brewing in Vancouver for two reasons. One Strathcona brewing itself has really good beer. Super Cool brewery really hipster in in like a gentrifying neighborhood for sure but they also at the time we were there and I'm not sure if the guy still does this but there is a gypsy. Burr call who runs a Burri called superfly. Meaning he doesn't have his own brewery brews at Strathcona and comes up and bruised. They're apparently lives in a van. No joke down by a river and then comes up to strathcona debris here and there and this was two years ago so things could have could have changed this super flex beer is awesome so they sell super flex at Strathcona brewing and their beers incredible and then bring has their own beer and their beer is really good too so those my if you want the best drink we've had in British Columbia head to Strathcona brewing. Try and try to get your hands on superfly which you can get in grocery stores and convenience stores to

"Is the best of WTMJ conversations welcome back I'm your host Jean Miller my guess this morning the editor of the Milwaukee journal Sentinel is George Stanley many media institutions old school places radio TV newspapers had to ask themselves the same question when do you'll go digital how do you go digital and more importantly you make money off of it did you ever come to Jesus moment I think we all had to at some point we old school types the channel in our business we are used to reel to reel tapes and typewriters and then the switch to to computers and out everything being digital and on line I'm sure it had to be the same for you at some point there is probably an early reluctance like okay this is this is the thing but it's not going to consume us and then also he realized yeah this is a paradigm change your digital is changing everything and I'm gonna have to change with it did you have a moment your did it gradually sink in I didn't work for you a combination of both so on some a lot of it happened gradually he and a lot of it workers insights of the moment that were really important one thing that's really been hard for us and that we've had that just over time is a news verification soul on when I got out a J. school when you got into this business it we were all about evidence fact checking because we have time and TV have time so that when they were three networks and Walter Cronkite all those stories were added in pre produced taped and they verify facts and things weren't in the moment they were twenty four hours a day and the same thing with the newspapers of course we were putting things together we're editing them we were verifying facts and not coming out until the next morning or the next afternoon so how do you do that in a moment so what cable TV really change what's really interesting about this is that's one trusted media started to decline is twenty four seven news cycle where people could manipulate the news people were on TV and that say something and it wasn't time to verify it and that became the reality what they sat and people learn how to manipulate that politicians did another state as well so we as as the old legacy media **** really entrenched in these values of verification and evidence based journalism had to learn how do we do that in a moment and that's what we've been doing so well we want to do now is say okay we'll get the headline off their you know the coach is leaving for Arkansas or there's a fire on you know fiftieth and find the lack or whatever it is but you can come back to us and trust we're gonna give you can verify everything the way we always have and it's gonna take this time throughout the day will keep updating a story throughout the day and everything we put out there is going to be verified according to our old standards but we'll do it all day long the one night okay here but the paper consistently is the physical paper the actual hard copy get in the morning is that it doesn't have have what it used to have a particularly in sports like last night's final score even though they gave me wrap up by ten thirty back in the day that was well before the deadline and you get a complete story with like reaction that kind of stuff is gone now is that by design to put people toward the online product or is it just a matter of function in the way the paper operates now as opposed to twenty years ago it's it's really a matter economic necessity so what's night and that's one of the main criticisms like it too and we wish that we could have as late deadlines as we had ten years ago what's happened is as we've had to find savings we've tried to keep our newsrooms as strong as possible so keep as many reporters including our sports reporters are beat experts out there doing their jobs reporting for all of our platforms including mobile and so keep their actual reporting a live as much as possible and as strong as possible cutting costs elsewhere so what that's meant here in Wisconsin after Gannett purchased us and hardy had ten other newspapers in the state and news sites in the state we consolidate all printing operations here into south Milwaukee and so we're printing fourteen newspapers a night and day at the plant that was made to print das and so that's changed everybody's deadlines we saw the latest online to print the Wall Street journal and New York times and USA today as well we never got Wes calls baseball games in the paper because they were always too late but it's harder for us to get west coast mountains central games specially if they run along and games are running longer now and things like that in the paper that he used to because our deadlines earlier that local news beast that was still being fed the especially online we're deadlines are not an issue it's just a matter of you know getting getting the copy up on the screen and into the reader and to the viewer at home but how do you cover city this big with the expectation being as always up here but your resources being down here I was up in your news from couple weeks ago for a press club meeting in the board room and I was just amazed at how quiet the places you just don't have the bodies like you did five ten years ago well some of the quietness is a bad thing because it means people are out to out doing their jobs and they.
