"Big series against Vegas still to go nothing was guaranteed, but they were thinking we're going to the show. We just got to hold it down for ten more minutes and Connecticut was thinking not again. Like for the last three years we've been a championship team we are not letting this happen for the kid and it's exactly what we talked about on our last episode where we kind of were like, what's going to happen when the sun get cornered and realize they got to go into survival mode or it's another disappointing season and what happened is they absolutely clamped down the reigning champs in their own building. Quiet as crowd you've ever heard. Yeah, that was eerie. It was eerie to hear a playoff crowd that quiet. During that stretch, that was wild. I want to, obviously, the story here is that Chicago allowed Connecticut to go on an 18 and old run to finish the last couple minutes of the game last 5 minutes of the game. But I got to give some credit to Connecticut. And coach Kurt Miller actually brings this up in his quote after the game. He said that I hope someone writes about how the combination of junko Jones alys Thomas and Brie Jones have knocked Candace Parker out of the playoffs three of the last four years. That's really like that quote alone. You have to kind of feel for Connecticut because the whole disrespect thing. That was a couple of years ago. And then they went on that huge winning streak to finish the season last year, and then obviously fell short because of teams like Chicago and Phoenix that were running the table and after being the top dog last season going into the playoffs and then losing Connecticut came in with enough of a chip on their shoulder that they had not just one impressive victory in the last two games, but I think both of the victories that they've done were impressive winning the previous game was was really impressive by 24 points. That's a good point. We're overlooking a beat down that they laid on Chicago at home. Because I think everyone was just like, oh well, you know, that was their last gasp, but there's still anyone series. Now you look back on it and it kind of feels like, oh, like maybe Chicago wasn't the best team at that series. Yeah, 'cause I think until the last 5 minutes, the other night, everyone was kind of convinced the sky were gonna figure it out. Right. And yet Chicago, Connecticut, who, after going down two to one in the series, fights back and finds a way to win. Once at home by 24 and once in Chicago, after absolutely clamping down and basically making Candace Parker and ally quigley and non factor in the game. Parker finished the game two for 7 from the field and both of those twos were both of those two shots or three pointers. Yeah. So she didn't take a shot in the fourth quarter, by the way. Yeah. Yeah, it didn't take a shot. Yeah, exactly. Just couldn't do anything. You know, still had a decent line. Again, Guinness Parker, it's not that she not that she's like a terrible player and lost the game for her team. You know, she still had 9 rebounds and three assists and three steals and four block shots like she had a great stat line outside of scoring, which if you are the Chicago sky in Candace Parker doesn't have a great scoring night, there's zero reason why you should still lose this game because look at who else you have on the floor. You've got, you've got copper, you've got me some quickly, obviously a three point threat. And van der sloot is able to not just distribute the ball, but van der sloot can go to get to the hole and finish. And so when you have all of these pieces that can score and Candace Parker putting up that really well rounded stat line other than scoring, it's disappointing that the rest of the Chicago sky didn't do quite enough. In fact, I did want to highlight we did get a big copper game, not as big as it needed to be, obviously, but she put up 19 shots, which is kind of something that we predicted on our episode where we were talking about this game. Ally quickly did not pull out of her slump, man. This was a tough series for us quickly fans. We're always going to be a quickly pod, but a one for 12 performance from one of your starters when you're not a very deep team. I mean, most teams at this point are going about 8 deep. We'll talk about Vegas going only like 6 or 7 deep later. But you only got 5 bench points from the sky bench and ten between Parker and quigley combined. I mean, there was just not a lot of offense to be found. And of course, that's part of the sun's game, right? Like everybody likes to talk about the sun like they try to muddy up the game. No, all they do is they play Gritty defense. It's not that they don't seem. Yeah, it's not that like, oh, I don't know. They don't have an offensive deficiency, and thus they try to keep games low scoring. It's just that they're incredibly good on defense. They actually have, I believe, the league's best scoring differential on the regular season. And that's why. They just clamped down on teams. It doesn't matter how good you are. And we'll see if that applies to the Vegas series here in a minute, but I just wanted to make a couple of those couple of individual notes because we got some good me some mason in minutes. She looked good, Vander suits always gonna get her what did she have? Actually not too many assists because nobody did 12 and only three assists. Nobody's scoring. But yeah, what a rough game, which at the end of the third quarter, I'll just say, I'm not gonna call anybody out by name, but Twitter was kind of celebrating the sky moving on with ten minutes left in this game. And I think to the even up to about that 5 minute mark, you were saying it. You know, because they were up 9 with less than 5 minutes left. To defend Kurt Miller a little bit here for any sky fan who's mad at him about the, we've knocked Candace Parker out through the last four years quote. I don't think he was trying to flip the bird to Candace Parker and sky fans as much as I think he was trying to highlight, look, we don't talk about John quill in this league the way that we talk about those sky superstars. True, maybe we should. And in fact, of course, I like we all understand why this is, but let's take a step back and look at things through coach Miller's lens here, he's coached one of the most consistent, maybe the most consistently good team in the league for the last four years in a row. Right. But they have nothing to show for it. And of course, he knows that if you don't have the hardware, you're not going to get credit for defining an era of the WNBA, right? We've had a little bit of a Seattle dynasty and we've had Phoenix be really good and the sky almost repeated this year. There's a lot of teams that headline the WNBA that aren't the sun. But it's got to be very frustrating to know we have been a championship caliber team for four years and nobody gives us any credit for beating some of the best teams that the league has to offer. It's because they've kept running into the aces and the mystics the year they landed on was the MVP and I'm not saying that the discourse around the sun is necessarily wrong. I do think they need to win it all in order to kind of cement themselves in that tier. But I understand his perspective and I get why he was like right about that right about how we've been good this whole time and we didn't just like fluke our way into the finals. So I'm kind of putting words in his mouth there shouldn't do that, but no, no, no, but I think I don't think that that's far off because if you consider what they've done over the last several seasons, you know? We've been guilty of this. We'll be the first to admit that there's times when we forget to put the sun at the tier that they consistently deserve. We as a show across the board, there might be one of us that's like, no, I think the sun, you know, I think the sun are going to be like the two seed this year, and they're going to make it run in the finals.

"Really my first year I played. I was in one or two games with my freshman year on varsity at Nebraska. And then they moved me back to the freshman team, which was good because it was a solely a freshman football team that you went around and played equivalent competition. And then at Nebraska. And then my sophomore year, I didn't get to play much. At Nebraska. And then. Red shirted at Baylor, and then I played that next year, which would really that was my first year of play. And then my senior year, I got hurt in the first preseason game when precede, non conference game, blew me out, and so I didn't play my whole senior year until the bowl game. I got to play in our bowl game. We played in the peach bowl against Clemson. And then I got drafted after that. No, did you win? Yes, I came here with the score was now, wait a minute, so you first of all, you injure your toe, you lose a lot of offers. And then you only play a couple games at Nebraska, not too much the second year, you read shirt, you play a year of Baylor, then you blow out your in a non conference game and you still get drafted early? Well, I was 6 round. That's not early. Well, I meant, but she went early. When I say early, but you finished your senior year, you graduated from Baylor. Well, I had to go back to graduate. That's a whole nother good story. But because that's what I mean by you left early for the draft, right? You didn't complete calls? No, no, no, no, no. 5 years. I mean, well, I didn't play that, I guess now you'd probably be able to play another year because but back then, I'd already read shirted. Yeah, so one year of eligibility. So you got 5 years to do four and going into my 5th year to do my fourth year of eligibility. I blew my knee up. So I was, you know, and then I got to play in the postgame, postseason game against the peach ball Clemson. It's Clemson. I don't like Clemson either. So we have something in common. No offense to you Clemson fans out there. But I don't think it's going to be a good year for Clemson this year. But we'll see. Anyway, I digress. Rebuilding, rebuilding, rebuilding. Yeah. Hey, but in spite of all of that, still the 6th round. I mean, you think about all the people who play football, high school football than those who go to college football and then those who even make it into the NFL. So even the 6th round is like, you're still the top 1% of the 1% that are getting picked. I mean, even with a blown out knee, how did that happen? You must have played one heck of a game and then bowl game for them to put you in a draft after you've missed a whole year. Yeah, I don't know. Like I said, I'm very fortunate. And that is thing that was very fortunate about was that why did Duvall was the offensive line coach for the Broncos. And he came down, worked me out at Baylor. I mean, and basically kind of talked with me and he had already watched film and everything. And he was one of the great offensive line coaches in NFL. And he had come from New England with red Miller. And so he, I think, he pushed for me as well to get me. He's since passed. But my rookie year I had wide his mouth. It's flying coach for at the Broncos. And I was very fortunate to have him as a rookie. You had red and whitey. Blue. Blue. Well, let's talk about what it's like to be a rookie in the NFL. In those days, everybody you had to have actually one of the guys I used to work with a long time ago played with the Dallas Cowboys. But the minimum, I think salary when he was there was like 75,000. They had a minimum salary right for anybody who went to the NFL. Oh yeah, yeah. And then. My signing bonus was think 17,500 and then my. First year, I signed a two year contract, I think my first year was 30,000 my second year was 40,000. And my signing bonus was 17,500. No wonder you had to go work for the government. You had to be able to make a living. Jeez. You know, besides the 6, I don't know what the, you know, the first and second third round draft choices were getting back then, but probably a lot more. So tell us, what's it like to be a rookie in the National Football League? I mean, we hear stories, you know, I live in loudoun county, so now they're called the Washington commanders, but they were the red skids and had we knew kids who worked down there and some things are fun and some things are like making the rookies buy everything. You go out with them as like, hey rookie, you know, pay for this, pay for this. So what was it like to be a rookie with a Denver Broncos? And what year was that? What was your rookie year? 1980 was my rookie year. And they didn't, well, you had to get up and sing and training camp and sing your fight song college fights on and it was, it was hard. I mean, it was training camp was tough back then. And did they have a Greeley Colorado? Well, no, my first two years, it was in Fort Collins. And Fort Collins was great because it was right up against the mountains and you'd have that weather come in in the mornings. It was cool and overcast. And then in the evenings, when you go out for your second practice, because back then you had two hard practices a day. And they'd come in and then you'd have more weather generally come in. Sometimes it's pretty bad thunderstorms. And like that, but you had the weather impact. Now, when we moved to Greeley, you're out in the stockyards, basically. And that's the smell of money, baby. Cattle. Yeah, but I mean, it got hot. I mean, really? But it's the thing that's so great about Colorado is you got to deal with the altitude. But there's no humidity. So you're not battling that in cold or in heat. You're not battling the humidity. You're battling the elevation. And I was in really good shape rookie year, but man, I remember coach Miller just laughing because he was monkey get on your back because I mean, you're doing your drills and everything and then you had it always had to do sprints and stuff and it would just, it would hit and you thought you were going to die. You thought everything was going to come out. You know, your lungs, but you get used to.

I was surprised at heart of that is what would would i wasn't willing to do. Coach miller was going to do right there. I was gonna throw in two guards and like a even though i disagree with what he did. I just thought you know there's a template and it doesn't have to be point guard. Shooting guard small dead. But because of that i was like all right. I'm really high in j. divy. I'm putting him on there. And i'm you know when you look at the league. You gotta figure guard somewhere with rows doing it. So cabela's my guy. Yeah i think this. Let me just say this. Andre cabello will lead the league in assists. he may lead american assists. It's all it all depends on you. "California is here to talk about his book. Lessons from the navy had earned trust lead teams and achieve organisational excellence. Welcome mark i thanks bill. Thanks so much for the interview. I really appreciate it really excited man. I'm excited to have you here. Tell me when you were growing up prior to enlistment who someone who influenced your inspired him. Yeah there's a couple of folks. Of course my father who has spent spent three years in the navy but he had stories about thirty years in the navy. You need to three years in the navy thirty years at the general electric plant in pittsfield mass. Or if you ever sat down at the coffee whether you'd swear flip because he's got a gazillion stories of fascinating people in the navy. So i guess there's a little boy listening to his stories about to start your country that inspired me to to join. Obviously he's got a lot of leadership skills. That i picked up another person was my little league. Coach bill marlow. We won every year the little championship. And this guy was the kindest man your your life. You never yelled at anybody. He's just he's just had the respect of everyone and no doubt picked up some tips from him. Great guy what do you think it was about bill. Marlow that made such an impression was what was it. How is he able to wrangle. Young free teen boys to run the bases throw to the right places in the midst of action under pressure and do it without yelling at them more to them that this mystery. Isn't it with a bunch of ten eleven year old kid with all the testosterone to grow. But he i think looking back at. I didn't put it in my book. I probably should have but since i suppose published. I've thought about him but he's listened a great deal. He gave us some time to explain our thoughts in usually he'd go the other direction but listened to us and he gave us some time to to talk about things. You've been raising eleven-year-old any. Just treat us. really well. He he respected us. I guess one of the things. I learned about leadership. Is the thing that people really strive for and just please respect. Music is human being frankly so in. Bill told me that it's funny that you call him bill. Because i think of my coaches little league or wrestling and in junior high and they're always the coach coach miller and i don't even think of their first names at this point in my life. Yeah well truthfully. He ended up marrying one of my best friend's moms who passes is is husband is..

"Breaking news out of foxborough. The patriots are releasing cam newton and will move forward with matt jones as their quarterback cam was battling with the alabama rookie for the starting job but the former. Mvp miss some training camp dudakovic protocols and didn't do enough in limited preseason action to hold onto his roster spot so shannon. What's your reaction. I'm surprised many years ago. I spoke to someone very close to coach. And he says the coach belichick related to him that he came within a whisker of named tom. Brady the start in two thousand one. But he couldn't pull the trigger and he said that was probably one of the regrets that he went when he did it or to make that decision. That's why he never went back to drew bledsoe basketball with twenty plus years later skipped. He gets an opportunity to gillian. Tom wasn't a rookie. Obviously at this point he in the second year to make a decision coach. Miller says i'm not going to miss this one. I'm a little surprised. Because i i did. The camp played. Well inflate unbelievable skipper remember. I said this before. I believe he was the most ready to play. Take him out of the box given what he was that. Alabama coach knows. Nick sabin knicks. Basically the one in the same ones coaches college. The other coaches the pros with one of the same and i believe coach coach said bill. You can't go wrong with this guy. This guy's this guy smart guy team. I remember we talked about this. If there's close one guy back fleet the guy using bro florez. What team. I all these coaches all these ownership and looking at a guy. Okay you can blow our whole thing but not being vaccinated. I guess we could miss games. I do believe that was a factor. I'm not gonna. I'm gonna take your hands. We'll get the vaccine. He chose not to a choice now. He could do whatever he wants to do. We'll see what happens. He only had three and a half million dollars. Guaranteed could he land somewhere else. We're gonna talk about that a little later. Skip but. I'm a little surprised that that this is the it would go but like you said you said this. He either has to start or you have to release them. Because there's no in between that cam. Newton cam newton. He was not born to be a backup quarterback. He has no backup in his his makeup. Right it's not who he is or will be and i wouldn't want him hanging over the shoulder pads and right kid because i think that's hard So to me i'll go. I'm surprised but not shocked. I've been telling you from the start. I'm just washing this kid play and he's better than i thought. Yes and i thought cam played very well in his preseason stint into the kid played a little better. You couldn't ask the kid to do more than he..

He was a part of to fantastic teams at the university of cincinnati and he has rejoined the program as what. They're deeming a graduate manager. Kyle washington is with us back in town back at the university of cincinnati. It's great to have you. How excited are you to be back. I'm elated man Just super excited because i. i know. Coach miller's history comes from a championship pedigree and when you come from that type of cloth just you're expected to win at a certain clip you're expected to carry a certain type of swaggie expected to Carry excellent so. I was super excited when i got the opportunity to be here and But as he spoke on we were here for two special teams. So you know combining those two cultures. I think we'll do great. And you know you know how. This city is where blue-collar we get it done and we get it done by any way possible so i'm just i'm happy to be back Everybody in the queen's city has told me a tremendous amount of love and i'm just humbled by how. How important is it for for these guys especially the newcomers guys who haven't worn the red and black before to have somebody who's had individual and team success was here for you know. We talked about a couple of great years to thirty win seasons. How important is it for those guys to have somebody like yourself. Who's been a part of winning here at uc. Well i think it could be extremely helpful as they're learning from me. I'm learning from them In terms of being on this side of the ball now. But i think it would be extremely helpful because you know people see the the winds and thirty and six thirty one five and you know they see those they see that product but the inside job of is understanding the cohesiveness of those two teams like the two teams that we were so close. We understood each other on a micro and macro level. That was just like it was just amazing so we understood what it took to win. We understood what it took. The you know get hit on the chain and get back up and I'm just like i just. I'm just planting seeds right now. I'm just planning ease right now. Most world when a whirlwind for them too. because they're like they keep telling me like the fans are just bananas. They're just crazy about since he and i was like. Yeah man. this is real though. It's no hype. This is a basketball town and You know the cpap means a lot. What is it like because this team does have a lot of guys who started their college basketball careers at other programs. Which is what you did. What is it like when you're going through that process and not starting your college basketball career at a different place but continuing your college basketball career at a different place.

"May not want a hitch too much to a player that up at that age but if you wanna get some mid tier free agents who can help right away i think there is can do data to make maybe three or four cuts dropping all kinds of knowledge right there and i did ask a big question right off the top reason why you know. We're talking here actually Just on the day. It's monday that. Jj watt Was signed over to the cardinals. So that is something that i was going to be. A point of. Focus for the raiders as far as getting some defensive line pieces in there were some pretty big names on free agent market like Jj watt like jv on cloudy But i think if you start looking at maybe like you were talking about there with the offensive. Line with the raiders Bringing back incognito is a huge piece for them to have but what does that mean for. Somebody like denzil good. Who played some lights out five football on that front line last year and who's trying to get paid after being such a flexible piece on that line last year. What do they do with somebody like him with knowing like you said that the raiders are already kind of over the cap which is right now. Said around one eighty. So what do they do to try to pay some of these guys or do they. I think denzel good situation depends on if they decide to keep that entire line together. Let's say they do. They say they keep trent brown. Gave jackson routine nido along with coach. Miller and rodney hudson who are reluctant to into their positions. I think that denzel guca possibly go elsewhere. Because you know. The teams watch watch gained. They say well this guy is. He's got some versatility. He could play left guard. He could play right. Tackle less sign him as a player. I can possibly compete for a starting job now. The do cut richie incognito or gave jackson trent brown. I think that the door for denzel good to come back because as you said he agreed praising lashes say he's an unsung hero on that offensive line. And they really need him with trent brown. And out of the lineup. Richie incognito only playing two games So he he was valuable to that team but as far as going forward. If you're gonna keep that line together as one of the most expensive offensive line's across league. I believe the raiders has spent the second most money. They're on their offense of live behind only the philadelphia eagles. If you're going to keep that expensive live together you're not gonna leave much room for backup guys..

"It was kind of under the understanding of like a longer-term deal because you don't know how long the sanctions are going to hit or what they're going to do and what we're witnessing now with Oklahoma state is okay as opposed. Susan ban, okay, we're appealing and like we don't even know. I mean we assume now that Oklahoma state is going to play in the tournament and they're not going to be the real sanctions come down before then but you don't know well by the way the Oklahoma state things total bullshit too because it's over like three hundred dollars. They've postseason banned them because of Lamont Evans giving Jeff Carroll 300 fucking dollars. Allegedly dog. Allegedly. Are you well, they even like cooperated with us. I don't even know they not allegedly. I'm not even sure that it's alleged. It's three $300. What are we doing? Here. This is crazy to me. It's absolutely crazy to me Oklahoma State like did not this is not them cheating. You know what I mean? Like this was not them getting some Advantage even if you want to go by faith like the bullshit archaic NCAA rules right for them to get a postseason band for this is just outrageous to me in a way that is completely incomprehensible. So they're dead. Their situation aside, right? Maybe maybe the Chris Mac thing in Louisville is a real a real way for a coach to look at this right. Maybe that maybe a coach could be like, hey, I'm in a good spot. But Arizona's upside is way better. I don't know that I buy that like at possibly I mean they have the support. They can't have it rocking mean you do have the appeal of of the success that they've had year after year. But hey, maybe maybe coach Miller fix out the next week. I think he still has another year contract and seems undecided mean Twitter kind of thought it was the thoughts are well, goodbye. Speech when it's listening off clarify player yesterday and just saying how hard and difficult disease was which we kind of forget to I mean, he said the trainer slept at the McKale Center for 25 days this year, maybe more because of how far he gave away and didn't want to miss the yep 5:30 a.m. Covetous and stuff. It's like there's a lot of stuff that goes into it and it was a tough year with everything going on the World to yeah, no question. But what choice It's for these kids. It creates just an exceptionally difficult decision at this point now like I would implore Arizona like if you're going to do this like rip, the Band-Aid quick like not only will it help you get into the marketplace quicker for a coach but it will help you it will help your kids make a decision with all of the information possible potentially earlier. Okay, cuz they're going to want to know who the coaches before making decisions and then on top of it, you're going to be a being a better spot to potentially keep those kids by waiting..

And so I was I was thinking and I believe I'm good enough to go top 15 top 20 or whatever it was So that's really where I felt like I was gonna go and then you know, sliding or falling like they say 48 was They hurt because I felt like I was better than a lot of guys that we got ahead of me. Um, it's just another undoubted chip on the shoulder. It's just more motivation. And, um, you know, I think it's I think it's hard to say someone falls in the draft because, like I think Coach Miller had a clip about it talking about me. Josh and Zeke and he was just saying they're 18 19 years old. They don't have any any stock. Which which was an interesting point of view, so things like that, but it definitely like you said. It definitely added some extra motivation. Put a little bit bigger chip on the shoulder. Nico, I have got to hear about the nickname Jin Jin Ninja. Uh yeah, E think that really just started on social media. I don't think anyone in person has ever called me that. That's how I want to keep it. I don't know, color that impression that special media stuff is fine. I'll go with that, Uh, that really just started to social media. I mean, I've got a very good friend who does sports media in in Arizona, and he was the one he was like. You gotta ask him about Ginger Ninja boy, which which is honestly one of the favorite nicknames have ever heard in my life. But I wanted to see what your perspective was honest. So do you not like it? You know, I don't mind it Like I said, I don't want people calling you that in person. I'd rather just go by Nico. Let's keep it simple. Alright. Alright on the media. It is what it is. I can't control that part. Keep it to Twitter from here. Forward. Sound good, perfect. Okay. All right. So it's Nico Mannion, Who's joining us right now? All right. Crewe Co and Nico Mannion on the re Juan coming up next you can have a fight indoors once it goes outside. You have a problem. I'll tell you, which NFL team I'm talking about. "Man. I mean, can you paint the picture for what It's like? E mean, gotta G league bubble going on. What do you know the regular MBA is doing? They're somewhat normal thing. What do you guys experiencing right now? You know the best way for me to explain it is it's like a U turn on it. It's like it's like nationals on us. You're saying that the same the same resort as every other team. Even the same cafe practice on the same court. So pretty much everywhere you go. You're seeing other players. S so that's the best way for me to describe it. It's like a big U turn and it's I mean for me. It's been years a couple of years since I played a U, but it's It's a good feeling to have almost it's It's fun to get atmosphere. I got to feel the way you tournament fell during your downtime. You guys were all hanging out together in in this particular case. You don't get to do that. So what's What's the down time like On the downtime that super till we have a really good trainer here and Brie and a really good, you know, strength and conditioning coach and Andre and so my off time is usually I'm trying to get at least an hour of the therapy on do some corrective stuff in the late room. And besides that, it's really just a long time in the room. Um, so for me that No one on Netflix. Tron something on or we're talking to family or friends. I'm better back in Arizona and California, and that's really how I spend most of my day is just talking, talking to people trying to get my mind off basketball. That's kind of my outlet when I'm by myself talking to my close friends and family. And then you know Washington here and there in the room. Um, remember sides that it's his father in the training room there on the court or meeting room with team? Yeah, we're all we're all crushing Netflix right now, that's for sure. All right. You know you have such an interesting background, though. And I wonder if you share a little bit of the highlights. You know, from Italy to Salt Lake City to Arizona, now to Golden State warriors. What's Well, what's the Cliffs notes and what stands out to you? No man. Ask any question. Um, There's definitely been a unique journey, probably different than most. Um, but, you know, I was born born in Italy moved to Utah when I was probably three or four. Um, and I really grew up in Utah. My real childhood was there. In the most Arizona when I was about 13 14 and then went to middle school high school and then end up also going to college about two hours away from where I grew up in Arizona. Then you know my basketball journey is, of course, Taking me to Italy got to play for the national team over there, which was Um, make it almost unexplainable moment. Just the feeling I had put in the jersey on. I'm hearing the anthem. Um, really my first time playing in front of my Italian family. I'm so that was special for me and then, you know, go in Arizona. A great school Great program. Coach Miller's Hall of Fame coach get to learn from him who also played point guard was amazing. And then, of course he didn't draft into the Warriors is kind of storybook Just because My dad was just to the word as well. So with a unique journey outside, you've said that you wanted to come to the Warriors, and sure part of it is the fact that your dad was drafted. By the organization, but I got to imagine there was more. What else attracted you? Um, just the culture the way You know there's clips online. Actually, it's funny cause probably two or three months before the draft. There's a clip of coach Kurt talking to staff. And he was just family stuff with having a poor shooting game. He's a step with the box score like you're still a plus. Plus 10 on this sheet here is impacting the game in a bunch of different ways. And I keep shooting because you're gonna make shots. Don't worry about that. And I told my mom and I want to play for a coach like this. Like I wanna and, Yeah, I want to play for a coach like this. And On. Did I get drafted to the words so stuff like that the culture the way they play, of course, and from music point guard being able to go into practice every day. Um Match up with and learn from someone like Steph, who, in my opinion is one of if not the greatest player of all time and probably the greatest writer of all time. Being able to just go in there every day and watch him and talk to him and ask him questions and having their asses a role model. Is it? Better than than what anyone could ask for. So that's that's the biggest part for me. We have great leaders and him and dream on a test. I've already learned a whole lot, and that's one thing. I'm looking forward to get back. Get back there is I get to learn from them some more. Yeah. What are those conversations like? How do you describe the relationship that you've started with? Steph Curry? Um, It's just It's almost like a big bro. Um, any teaching moments if we're playing, he sees something. He'll let me know is, um, we're in the game. Sometimes I'll ask him to say what you're seeing out there is to pick in mind and see how he sees before how he sent the game. On and there's the details stuff. You know, Like, Like I said, if you see something that he thinks I could do better or change, he'll bring that up and tell me like I said, if I have any questions, I'm asking him and drama. You know what we were talking about? They're also led to And I always think this is kind of unfair because before guys or even drafted, we've got Ah, thought about when they're gonna be drafted. And if it doesn't happen that way, we hang that around. So there's that thought that you quote unquote fell in the draft. How did the.

Meanwhile, 6 ft three Inch Dicks Orgel of Capitol Hill would quarterback Oklahoma and am now Oklahoma State for three years Star on the Cowboys basketball team and pitch their baseball team to the 1959 national championship. Capitol Hill And meanwhile, Jim Dobson started with Sordell on those O s U football and baseball teams and Dobson's bat hit Oklahoma, a name to the national title. But on Friday night November 3rd 1955. They were all teenagers playing for many kinds of pride, Douglas quarterback and future college quarterback In future, Oklahoma Secretary of Commerce and Broadcasting magnate Russell Perry remembered. We wanted to beat the white guys. We felt like we had to win. It was the biggest game of my life. Meanwhile, Capitol Hill quarterbacks, Orgel said, We probably had a fear of black people. He had never spoken to an African American person and he didn't during the game. He recalled the hostility he felt from blacks in the Dallas area Y M. C, a, where he played a few basketball games when younger Titanic struggle with some of the sternest line pounding scene on the Oklahoma grit earn all year. That's how the Oklahoma newspapers, Bob Dillinger wrote. As the two teams battled their way to a 66 halftime draw. Prentiss God had thundered for 110 yards rushing and a touchdown at half time, though. Coach Spiegel of Capitol Hill adjusted the Redskin defense. It was the only time I ever change defense's at halftime, he recalled later and reflecting on his 40 year career. Well, the overhaul worked got gained only 37 yards in the second half. Capitol Hill, though, lost four fumbles in the bruising battle. But Douglas, whom numerous Redskin players accused abiding them during the contest, sustained numerous penalties as they had in their previous games against all black teams. So the thrilling contest rumbled down to the final 30 seconds. Can you imagine 10,000 people on their feet screaming to radio stations carrying it? In local TV in Oklahoma City still tied 6 to 6 amidst the deafening roar of the 10,000 strong crowd, Sordell on Capitol Hill lined up over the ball with 1/4 down and goal on the Trojan one yard line. Redskin fullback Bobby Job was himself soon headed toe you as God's teammate and he barreled into the end zone with 27 seconds remaining to give his team a 13 to 6 lead after the extra point kick. Remarkably, even that didn't settle the contest. Douglas had one more chance. In his offensive huddle quarterback Perry called a long bomb to Starr Pass catcher Ellsworth Hardman. Coach. Miller had ordered the play Hardman no surprise his teammates by voicing a rare protest on the iron willed Miller's team. Sordell will be waiting back there, and he's too tall. Fleet receiver urged. Throw it to me on a medium or out across the middle. I'll get open and I'll get it into the end zone. Perry stuck with his legendary coaches play call, He took the snap and dropped back to throw leaping into the air. His trademark throwing style. Perry hurled a dramatic jump past that went over 50 yards through the air into the end zone toward Hardman is time ran out. Lanky Sordell in future OS You star intercepted it in the end zone. The quarterback himself finished the game with nearly 170 yards total offense from start to finish. It was a total told Battle of two Mighty defensive lines, Dillinger wrote in the Oklahoman Kita fervor, which was matched by the constant uproar. The overflow crowd. It was a memorable launch to integrated high school football in Oklahoma. Hardman told me Go in that the game officials encourage players from both teams during the game and gave them playing tips. No, there were no fights or unsportsmanlike eruptions. The class was savage injury sustained from it ruined both teams for the year. Some Douglas fans claim that poor officiating by the white officiating crew contributed to their team's defeat. Trojan players who participated in the game told me they believe the officiating was fair. The more time goes by the proud I am of to have played in that game, Sordell told the Oklahoma newspaper in 1999. "Coach Miller to join us here for his thoughts on today's ballgame, mice will start our statistical outlook presented by Indiana Kitchen Premium pork. Well, I'll tell you, vicious one had just about everything and Indiana coming away with the sweep over the eighth ranked Hawkeye's 67 65 surviving not one But to 14 runs by I will one in each half of one that got him down early 17 before on Lito have Indiana battle back and then 45 35 in the second half. Is the Hoosiers battle back there? Shooting statistic wise, Iowa for the game. 1951 37%. The only shot 38% when we beat him in Iowa City couple of games ago eight of 21 for the Hawks in the for the ball game, but only two of 10 from behind the line in the second half from the line 19 of 20 to 86%, and they were sharp hitting 14 of 16 in the second half the Hoosiers the splits look like this for the game 23 of 64. 36% 6 of 23 from behind the line for Indiana 15 of 24, Indiana, 62 5 from the line, but Indiana hit eight of 11 from the line in Crunch time for 73% in the second half. Hoosiers did warm up a bit 40% on 12 of 30 in the second half to a 14 from behind the line. Two double figures. Scores trace Jackson, Davis, 17 and 12 That is his seventh double of the year. 19th in his career race, Thompson with the hard earning of 15 points and six rebounds, seven rather nine different Hoosiers scored today, but none bigger than Armand Franklin's game winner is, it turned out? Hey, I was one of nine until he hit his second field goal with 1.9 seconds to play to give the Hoosiers the wind coaches ready at that. All right. Coach Miller's comments were brought to you by community cars calm with over 100 vehicles all in one place and Archie. Congratulations. One win for your basketball team really was you know it's um, you know, tell hard week. You know, we've had to just absolute grinder games. Um, a lot of ups and downs, But, you know, I give our guys credit. We're getting better. We have a lot of different guys right now. I think stepping up at the right time a year helping our team and this was a total team effort to today we needed, you know, just about every guy. Give us something, and it seemed like you know, right when we needed a different guys stepped up at different times, But I'm proud of our guys. It's not easy, you know in this league and you know, to be able to play the teams that were playing right now. We're right there. But to be able to get over the heart man. That's as a good good sign for our team as we continue to play here in February, Coach Armand Franklin was old for eight and fell, lay up in the final five minutes of the ball game and then hitting the game water. The guy just stayed with it. He had six rebounds today at five assists with only one turnover. And even though it wasn't shooting a well throughout, he stepped up at the end of the game coach and that's what I like the most. It's tough. You know when you don't have a real good offensive game, going on any and foul trouble sometimes and you sit that long. You're not ready, but I thought when he got back in that very last Eight minutes, six minutes for minutes he did some good things and you know the end of the game. Feel really confident as the clock is winding down. He's the one guy on our team. Feel confident he's strong enough to get to the basket is strong enough to get a shot off. And he also you know doesn't need a screen so much to say, and I thought today you know when he was able to get the guy knocked back him taking that shot, very comfortable with him Taking that shot. He makes that shot and it looked good when he left his hands and You know what we were due for one undergoing on going for us? No question about back arch with the other thing That was impressive. Today, All of your bigs really played well, especially race. Thompson against Luca Garza down low race battled all week. I mean, he's by far and away right now, our most valuable contributor because he does so much for our team. It doesn't show up in the statute. He's garden Kofi, Scarred and Garza he's battling. He's banging. Hey, he gave us a shot in the arm. I thought when we were really struggling. He, he answered. The bell was physical gave us some stops. And then on offense, he continues to kind of You know, you know, kind of really worked the offensive glass today. Hey, miss five for seven from the foul line and ends up getting 15 and 15 and six along with the defense on floor box shots as well and and I'm happy for race race works at it everyday Coach. Your bench is really contributing. You mentioned that already. But you had major minutes from Anthony, Leo, George Geronimo, Christian Lander and trade. Galloway all gave you 11 plus minutes in this ball game. Yeah, it's one of those games, you know, are starting group didn't get off to a good start to start. The game was start the second half. Our bench has done a really good job here of late, especially the last four or five games have given us an opportunity to kind of climb back in. I have made runs at different times, and today was no different, especially at the end of the first half. It was so important the way we finished, and then once we got a little bit out of kilter to start the second half offensively. You know, our bench did another good job of being able to creep in there. Galloway, Big three Far Christian made some really good passes. Jordan continues to kind of grow up a little bit. And Anthony Get a really good job in the first half. He also Anthony had three steals, which was a couple deflected balls. But you know, at the end of the day, you got to go with the guys that have done it the most. And I thought Rob had a huge three Not after his best day, but hit a big big three. I thought Trace knocked into big.

"Tonight's really been the spark offensively. This Illinois basketball team Ah, wide open three in the right corner. That's not the play. I think you draw up defensively. But Indiana is lucky that phrase your missus it on who just now have a chance of the type all game to take the lead. But sometimes the ball just bounces your weight down and for Indiana very fortunate. The Fraser doesn't knock down that three on I love the time out from Coach Archie Medal or give your chance to have a chance to sit down. Drop the best play that you can. We gotta think Indiana's going inside the Jackson Davis. If you can on the low block, try to draw a foul or finish on any threat. Well, we have the two teams huddled up. Obviously, Indiana right now we'll have a basketball. They got a chance to take the lead. That's the critical factor, but they can't afford another. I mean, they've had 12 turnovers in this game eight of those who come in the second half after just four in the first half of your line. I have 10. They've had five turnovers in the second half. But Indiana has given Illinois too many second opportunity or too many extra opportunities with those turnovers and Illinois, for the most part, is taking Advantage of him. Yeah, no doubt about it down at four turnovers in the first half is great. You see what happens when you take care of the ball with four turnovers. That first half seven point lead been a different story here in the second half, though. Who's your offense in bad pass from Armando robbed Tennessee, Tennessee with the ball between the circles Masses to trace Jackson Davis High Post He works on Kofi Coburn got him inside of the hook shot, missed it. It rimmed out, came down and went down. It started in and just wouldn't stay down and back comes Illinois now with Ball inside a minute. 20 to 1 a shot clock about 20 seconds. Separate the clacks Curbelo gets inside. Lost the handle on the floor. Everybody and whistle. What have you got? A time out, was called by Adam Miller. So Illinois will hold out of the ball was 16 seconds on the shot clock 42.5 seconds to go in this one. And this one is wild. Both teams opportunities to score. Either you make a mistake or you miss a shot. Whatever the case. We're still tied at 66 you remember at Champaign, Illinois was a 69 60 final, And at this point in time it was I owed. A Subaru who had taken over the game tonight in this contest has been friend Fraser, who's had a big part in taking not taking it over, but at least keeping yellow. No, I right there. And that's gonna be the question here for this Illinois offense, Ohio The sooner you all season long has been the closer in late game situations for this Illinois offense or what? Him fouled out. Buddha's Illinois turned to hear it could be the last possession of this ball game. Who doesn't annoy turn to get a basket in crunch time is a trend. Fraser, who's had the hot hand tonight already tried to pound the ball inside. Try to get to the free throw line here of your own. Oy, I don't know what you got to be ready for here if you're Indiana, but the one thing I do know you gotta play defense without fouling. Both teams are in the double bonus here. Next foul for Indiana puts Illinois Fur lined shoot, too, and with under a minute left to go in this ballgame With it all tied up. You got to play your best defensive possession off the night here If you're Indiana played great defense contest shots, but do not found no silly fouls here for Indiana Defensive Tennessee Durham, Franklin Race. Thompson and Trace Jackson Davis on for Indiana defensively and Cabella. One bad with Cokie Coburn, along with Adam Miller, Trent Frazier and Davante Williams. The lineup for the line item. They check something in the stores table 16 seconds on the shot clock 42.5 seconds left in the game on the line. I will inbound Curbelo will do the inbounded better looks, looks, looks, looks looks and whistle. Oh, my goodness. They just called the foul on Rob Finnessey, and he's just found out of the game. I cannot believe that in the ball had not even been inbounded yet done and that that was a foul called away from the basketball. Mm hmm. Which is absolutely huge. It puts Illinois to the free throw line here. It looks like Trent Frasier, the best free throw shooter for the line. I was gonna go to the strike. Wow. Unbelievable Trade. Galloway will check into the lineup for Indiana. I'm not sure what Rob Rob was arguing that he didn't do it. He said this guy had wrapped his arms around the back, like to the guy. You know, he was behind the guy and this guy had wrapped his arms around Rob somehow. Yeah. I don't like to call it all. You saw it? Yeah. Got screen on the cross screen for covert. So a little bit behind trend, Fraser, But yeah, 100% raise your kind of wraps his arms around There is contact, but I don't like that called the stage of the game. So Frasier at the free throw line. Mandy rattles it in. He's got his 16 point the game. He could give him a two point lead. 42 seconds left in this one phrase arise for number two on Knox at home. 17 points for Trent Frazier and Indiana's Down to 68 66 42.5 seconds to go on Now, Zaara calls a quick time out as he crosses the timeline. And Archie Miller watched drop of play for this. Use Your ball club 39 seconds left right now. I'd like to get a shot off quickly as possible. If it's gonna go down you can go to for one Here is 39 seconds left to go on the clock. You could get a really quick shot. Even if you miss it down. You have a chance. Enough time to get one. Stop defensively. You're not forced to foul if they don't know it gets the rebound with 35 36 seconds left. You know, the question is, Can he eat into something? Quick enough here to get that accomplished. The last possession. Indiana got really nice look at the rim. Jackson Davis, isolated against Kofi Coburn made a nice move went in and out. I think you go to Jackson Davis again here. I mean, he has shown the ability tonight to finish through contact. He sent a nice job drawing fouls. He's your best offensive threat. And, you know, you gotta think Coach Miller's going to Jackson Davis on the low block here or isolated on one of the elbows against Kobe, Indiana has frayed Galloway inbounding the ball but Durham, Franklin Jackson, Davis and Thompson inbound comes to our mark. Looks like they're in a hurry, so they're just gonna hit now. Armand drives down inside, puts it up and got it. Farm on Franklin was an incredible shot is 10 point of the game. He drove it down the hole that there's 30.5 seconds to go, and there's only one second between the shock. Locks. And now what will it no idea. We're tied at 68. They're going for the last shot. Carmelo, I'm dribbling it out near mid court. They're trying to win this ball game right here At the end, Rabello with the ball starts to work the offense down day data seven. Curbelo drives it right. Got away with a Carrie Looks Rosa The Coburn who should stand up. Mr tipped up taking my tracks, and Davis, Indiana called time out race times and got knocked to the floor. No call Man Race gets up and grabs his lip as if to say. Somebody just decked me. But whatever the case, not gonna maybe put another second on the clock. I don't see that they could put much more than that will have to wait and see. But Indiana will have a chance with the basketball before it goes to overtime, did not send it there, if somehow make a basket that really nice play, like for Bello and over and had about a 10 footer..

"Information. I'm Kevin Lee. And for Bob level tonight, we'll talk colts in just a moment. Joining us now is Josh Thompson from Bari High School coach. Thank you for calling in. I will admit I'm the fill in the Hall of Famers. Not here. I have no schedule. No information. So all this turn it over to you Tell me who you play tonight and how it went Well can Way played at our one of our rivals down here in southern Indiana. We played in Washington tonight, and this is typically a game that gets played the night before Thanksgiving. At the hatchet house in Washington. That speech right out about 8000 people, and every year it's a non covert year. You're going to see anywhere from 68,000 fans there and down here in Davis County. We got shut down our entire county got shut down. The week of Thanksgiving. Our health department felt like things weren't safe enough to have school and have E C. A. S. So we didn't play that game the night before Thanksgiving. And so tonight, there are about 700 people there at the Hatchet house, so it definitely felt like an odd environment. But our kids came out. We played Very slow tonight defensively and just couldn't get clicking and coach Miller's kids. They're Washington did a great job executing their motion offense in the first half and we lead 34 to 30.5 time in the second half. We pick things up a little bit. We ended up winning 71 toe 46. So it was a good win for our kids. Um And you know, we played four really tough games here in a about an eight games or eight day stretch, So it was good for us. T Get out there on the court tonight. Get this game under our belt. We got a tough stretch your head. Thank you for calling in and thank you for the update, Bobble doing more professional interview with you The next time you call in. I'm glad you guys got a chance to play. No, it's not the normal environment, but it beats the alternative right now. Thank you, Coach. Absolute were just blessed to be playing and thanks for filling in for coach Knight, Kevin Exactly. Josh Thompson, the bar Reeve coach joining us tonight after a very nice win, and my friend Joe stays. Niac joins us Now I'm doing the show for one reason, because I should pick up the phone and call people more. I never leave my house anymore. And even though Joe, by the way, joy moves, I don't go to the old house. No mild away from you now at this point, so I just talked with boil a few minutes ago. He wants to come and work with me on a race. So I'm thinking about signing him up to be the guy that holds that that monitor. You know that that follows the pit reporters around We call it Kim. Would that be a good gig for Mark? You know, Mark is a sworn haters, too. If he's not a hater, he's just could not care less about racing. And he doesn, which was always which was always odd to me because mark during the off season to some of the most obscure Very cool, but like crazy just off the cuff things, and I remember back in the day when he would fill in for Dave Wilson and, you know, do the afternoon show. We talked. It became a three hour show. Just trying to convince him that racing was kind of cool, eh? So that would be awesome. I think Mark would get a big kick out of it, and it's smart is he is he certainly would be able to learn. Quickly and I bet you he developed a passion for it because we all drive right if you could drive away 240 Miles an hour, I wouldn't go that far. And I understand Racing is not for everyone, and he's in that group that it's not for him. I just think he'd be more curious about the intricacies of the broadcast and how it works and Just to kind of experience something something new. I have always said, though. If Mark wanted to do a turn for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway radio network, you give him a couple of days. He'd be great at it like he is that everything else But no. I don't think we're nor my going to try to convince him to become a racing fan. It's It's for some, and it's not for all, but it was good to chat with him, and it's good to talk with you. We only have a little bit of time left in this segment, so I appreciate you. Staying up with us late tonight, so I'll start with this if you're playing. Knowing that you do not have control yourself. You have to win and you need help. Do you want to know the scores of the other games? Colts need one of four teams to lose tomorrow. You can't. You can't help but want to know. And you can't help. But no. I thought that was one of the silliest questions. That kind of made national news All week was whether or not they're gonna put the score on the board and all that kind of stuff. For a four o'clock game. You know who won the one o'clock games? They're over with the word gets through the locker room very, very quickly. Now what Philip Rivers said this week is 100% true. Nothing matters unless you win yourself. So everything is predicated on you beating Jacksonville, so that won't be an issue. But it really kind of helps the motivation if you know when those one o'clock games that either Cleveland, Miami or Baltimore lost if you know that, and I'm like, okay, we don't have to wait for that Tennessee game and it's all on us. Now. If all three of those teams win and you're more.
