"You'd like to have that by middle of the season that is for sure at least on paper pain. The biggest competition to wisconsin for big ten west supremacy appears to be kirk appearances iowa hawkeyes iowa listed at nine to one at fan duel sportsbook to win the big ten their plus. One seventy five to win the big ten west and the wind. Total for the hawks. That's eight and a half eight and a half flat will call it right now. This was an iowa team that started extremely slow last year but finished with six straight wins the close out the campaign when you look at iowa figuring out when they're going to be successful well it's been a pretty straightforward formula iowa fifty one in six when they run for one hundred yards two and fifteen when they don't over the last six years. Fortunately for the hawkeyes. This offense is built around a potential all american running back in tyler. Goodson and hey. A lot of people are optimistic about what we could see out spencer petrous in his second season in iowa city. You're not supposed to encourage brian. Farance to call more runs with that little nugget. I think you may have well. I'm not encouraging the call more runs. Maybe use the passing game to open up the ground game. You have to think counter-intuitively outside the box instead of slamming your head into a brick wall on first and second down and setting up third intermediate every single time you play team above average defense and i think that's the question for me because we've talked about iowa's offensive ceiling only being so high with how they play in how brian farance calls. A lot of predictable runs unpredictable downs. And there's this unwillingness to have quarterbacks feet play a role within the offense. And i was still a team that punts plus territory in short yardage situations more than they probably should and you know last. Season's the perfect example of all this. Because you have a great one you have to receivers that are going to be on. Nfl rosters you have the first team all big ten running back and yet you only finished sixty eighth and offensive. Epa and sixty first explosiveness. Last season brian farance puts a governor on his own offense. With how antiquated is. Now i look at. I was offense this season. You mentioned spencer patriots. I think it comes down to him. I think it comes down to the offensive line. You know you'll lose a left tackle. You'll lose your top. Two right tackles you lose a starting guard. There's also a new o line coach. The projected left tackle missed the entire spring. So i do think we see downgrade with iowa's offensive line. The big question becomes is. How large is the debt. And then of course spencer patriots. He finished last season strong. Final two games against illinois wisconsin. Really only two that he finished with a passer rating above one hundred. His teammates are saying all the right things. They respect him for his work ethic. They claim is the first one in the building in the last one to leave. Guys like tracing regaining in the receiver rumor claiming that the timing's much better that his accuracy and pocket presence has improved in that. He's learned to be a leader. He commands the huddle now. Kirk vari- has been saying peaches praise. Basically all offseason says night and day and that he had a great spring start to finish. Let's hope that's the case because his accuracy was really poor last season. And i mean. I guess you give him the deserved crutch that. We give a lot of other teams and quarterbacks for last year is that it's a first time starter and a shortened offseason but no spring because of the the cova chaos but peter has had like this really bad combination of not pushing the ball downfield while also being inaccurate. It's not a good combination to be. Can you know this conservative game manager. That's also not accurate. Almost fifty five percent of his throws reader short. Or behind the line of scrimmage. He only attempted deep throat. Twelve percent of the time and going back to his pocket presence patriots was a disaster when he was pressured aligned at a really good job keeping them clean zone pressure twenty three percent of dropbox but when he was pressured twenty nine passer rating four point one yards per attempt. So for me. Qb align are still the two question marks. i have. I don't know if patriots is just going to automatically become this accurate. Passer obviously does have a full off season to improve on that. But i would say the receiver room while. I don't think it's going to be glaring. Issue is certainly going to take a little ticked back as well. Yeah this is an interesting team. I mean from an offensive line standpoint. They have arguably one of the best centers in the country in tyler. Her mom but i'm not quite sure. They have much beyond that and while we can say we want about iowa needing to do what had to be done with coach doyle being let go. He was an integral part of their strength and conditioning program. In terms of getting these guys to be the lynchpin building blocks not only the translated every saturday throughout the fall. But the reason that iowa's put so many offensive lineman into the national football league and when you talk about trenches for the hawkeyes there aren't just questions on the offensive side pain there. Plenty of questions defensively where they'll have to reload as well. You lose guys like chancy. Golsen david nixon jack. Heflin big shoes to fill in a defense that led the conference in fewest yards per play at four point. Three a pop when you look at the hawk is on that side of the ball. Where do some of your biggest question marks come from or what maybe on the converse where you most confident they're going to excel. I mean you hit a perfectly. I think the question mark is defensive. Line losing those two guys in nixon but it just oddly seems to be rinse and repeat for that position group at iowa so i didn't downgrade that unit as much as i probably would. If it wasn't iowa and candidly it wasn't a unit last year. That got a ridiculous amount of pressure either. Now it's damn near impossible to replicate last season just based on various. I mean i was defensive. Top eight inefficiency and epa explosiveness. Pass the defensive line. The linebacker room looks damn good jack. Campbell has potential to be a star secondary returns all four starters from a group that was top ten in yards per pass attempt to let you get what you get with. Iowa's defense it. It's very meat and potatoes phil. Parker lives in zone. Any dials up. Let's not all that often right. It's it's really this like kinda sit back Beat us by one. Thousand paper cuts kind of defense. That we're just gonna we're gonna hang out here zone and we're gonna see if we get natural pressure we're not gonna leave ourselves exposed it just very bend but don't break keep everything in front passed the in state game though against iowa state. I only face one other offense at were projecting inside the top thirtieth season. You know you miss ohio state. They get indiana penn state and minnesota at home and looking at our preseason numbers iowa's projected to be a favourite in ten of twelve games..

"Issues. A lot of it was tied to racism. He got fired. And then urban Meyer. Game a job. And once people found out about that they weren't very happy and rightfully so. And then urban Meyers saying, Yeah, we invented this guy and everything's fine. They decided to part ways very shortly thereafter. Now you figure it's a couple of things here. One is. Meyer probably figured that he could just slip this guy through. Nothing would happen, right? He's a strength conditioning coach. People typically don't get too worked up about that. So if you got a bunch of coaches that get announced that the same time Then, you know, maybe you can figure that out. Maybe you can work the system where he gets through. And once you get through the initial announcement, everything's fine. Clearly, that was not the case. The other thing is and part of why this didn't work is also People are keeping a close eye on urban Meyer because he's got a track record as well. Now it's not. The same track record is Chris Doyle. But if you look up the background of urban Meyer, you find some things he's been connected to a lot of troublesome things. And so There's a bunch of reasons why this wasn't going to work, and it shows you like you wonder on what degree Urban Meyer's learned anything. I don't know. It doesn't look good. Doesn't look good, but you know what? He wins football games. So who cares about anything else is right. It's gross. Sometimes sometimes it's gross. It really is, um, anyway. Let me tell you that we are coming to you live from the rocket mortgage studios when you need certainty in the home buying process with loan that fits your life rocket can so we got a couple of minutes left if you want to get in 855212. 4 to 27. That's a joins show Chris Fo. Yes, The other thing That's troubling is he had never worked with Doyle at any point. So why is he so one excited to get him in the building? And to defending him to the point where Oh, no, I vetted. I personally vetted him, so I know it's okay. So all of you media members with nothing else to do. Who Actually, you know, aren't students at the university can leave me alone now? Like, why did he defend this guy? So much to the point where I know what's best you don't stop bothering me is basically what he tried to get away with until they basically you know, it had, basically, uh Just caved in on him over the weekend. Yeah, That's what happened. Apparently, he's known the guy for a while. I don't know how well he's known him, but he's known him for, like 20 years but never worked on the same staff with him. No, they were booked on the same step had kind of overlapped in Utah. What he had been in Utah before Urban Meyer was that Utah so he obviously got references from people at Utah, telling him that how great of a strength coach Doyle was. Okay, great. That's fine, but You don't know someone until you've actually worked with them or interacted with them. So for him to stick his neck out for Doyle made no sense. Zero sense. Yeah, it is strange. Maybe they're closer than we know, Like. They're just good friends, and he's just like I'm helping my buddy out. We're gonna get him back in. We're gonna get a job back on his feet, and it just totally blew up and it should have. I mean, there's there's just no reason right now for any of that. Um Jacksonville always something. Let's go to Taco Taco in Fort Lauderdale. What's going on Taco? Hey, Vinnie. Thank you. How you doing, Bud? I'm doing good. What's up, man? Man? What do you think The chances are we get to Shawn Watson down here in Miami. Well. In terms of destinations. You're one of the top. I mean, it's you guys and the Jets and everybody else So you got good chances. You think you was gonna you think too is going toe gonna make it Too has got some stuff. The weird thing is, I saw things from two in college that made me feel pretty good about him. The biggest worry that I had was the hip and that was something that you know, delayed him a little bit this year. So the hip stuff was was a big question and still is a question But now To have the reports that have leaked of them not having a vote of confidence into and that's starting early in the season to see the way that he played. He had to get replaced by Fitzpatrick a couple of times not being willing to let it go. Those are worrying things. Those who think it's not a death sentence, but it's enough to go. You know, Maybe he's not the guy and to have that conversation so early into a guy's career that's reasonably accomplished like to is I am stunned. And, yeah, I'm not very confident too right now. I was a little worried about his. You know, his ability not become Humpty Dumpty in the NFL, you know? I'd love them in college. He was really great. You know, at Alabama, even though I'm not an Alabama fan on the King's guy, Um, you know, he looked. He looked like a totally different animal in college than What he has down here is a pro, but he has been bad, but he hasn't been It has been great either, you know? No, He's a lot of game. It's like a throws for 85 yards, and he doesn't turn the ball over and he's got a touchdown. You know, it's just it's not It's It's not very inspiring a taco. I appreciate it, man. It's Guy's nickname is taco. Or maybe it's It's his God. Given Christian name is taco Sink Taco, the patron saint of Stake anyway, Um, one last thing here, we've uncovered a lot of ground here. Last thing just a funny little story. The Eagles have been trying to goose the market to get people to trade for Carson went to right now as a bad contract. He's miserable and also he was so bad. He got benched and he deserved it. And, uh, yeah, He's a bit of a project right now. So they're trying to get people to pay a first round pick to get Carson went out of Philly, which, as as an Eagles fan would be a blessing at this point. He's not worth a first round pick, Um, which is not helping my team's case. Maybe I should not have said that Anyway. Um, you look at the situation. And now there's a report that comes out that's like, Yeah, nobody in the league believes that the Eagles are getting first round offers, so it's It's just not going well. The whole negotiation in every shape is not going well. There is a report that once could go for two seconds. And that is the sizable hole. And if that's actually what the Eagles are getting offered for Carson Wentz from whoever you take that deal, you should take that deal in a heartbeat. And maybe we see Carson Wentz get moved soon. But with that That's the end of the show. I hope you've enjoyed it. My name is Vince Quinn here every weekend 2 to 6 11 3, West Coast. You could always keep up with me on Twitter on instagram. "But ultimately the player usually gets his way. Usually Right. I can't remember a time where player has requested a trade and said, I'm done here. I'm not playing for them anymore. I want to be traded and is not gotten that. Request eventually. I mean, I'm sure there are some. Maybe I'm forgetting, but off the top of my head and I feel like what Once you get to that point, it's over. So if I think he's getting traded, and the Jets obviously would be one of the teams that could trade for him, I do think there's a chance it's gonna happen. I would say right now, maybe I'll give you a percentage. I would go 60 40 Sam Donald as the starter. 40% to Shawn Watson. I don't I don't believe the Jets going to draft a quarterback 855 to 1 to 4 to 2 75 5 to 1 to four. CBS will finish up with your calls on the other side right now, a CBS Sports radio update. "Throughout that is showing Watson is saying no to the New York Jets were gonna tell you five minutes why, that may be the best thing that could happen to the New York Jets that comes way in about five minutes. The story of the night is AH, hire that is no longer going to happen when it comes to Jacksonville. Adam Schefter, ESPN NFL Inside reported that the strength coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars Chris Doyle, Handed in his resignation. Barely a day after Urban Meyer, the coach of Jacksonville, told everybody this is the guy. I want this guy I'm gonna hire. Yeah, he had that stuff that happened in Iowa, where he was just completely just dogging guys when he was being racist, whether he was being belligerent, whether he was being rude was being a jackass. Whatever terms you want to use Either way, It was not a good situation before I would finally decide to let him go with a one plus million dollar balloon payment to go away. And after that, urban Meyer, who said that he vetted him. He believes in him. He thinks it would be great for the program, not even a day later. Chris Doyle is no longer the strength coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Yeah. Ready. This is when we talked about yesterday and it was one where we said, and Leon seriously really went off when we would talk to you later on. Former Jacksonville Jaguars and the the U. Hall of Fame. I mean he, Leon, seriously back in the day was one of the best offensive lineman in the league, and he said, All it's gonna take is one He gives one got the wrong look, says one wrong thing to the wrong guy with his past in history. These are grown men. And it will spread like a cancer through that entire locker room. And he says, the wrong guy to the wrong guy. Wrong thing to the wrong guy. In the weight room. I'll get his butt kicked. Okay, Here we go. And look and I completely agree with him. You agree with we all We all agree. We know the NFL pretty well, when it comes to something that is not college football, urban you are not in Kansas anymore, and you do not have The power of judge, jury and executioner. You have a big boss? Not even trend. Baalke shot con owner of the Jags, and he's got a boss. Well, no. Flip that Roger Goodell works for all the owners, but all it takes a shot kind of call is a Roger, Call Urban But I just did. And I need you reiterate, or vice versa. Whichever way. There's a lot of people urban has to answer to now. You can't go good old boy network. And what did anyway and the resignation? Oh, he did. Oh, yeah. And before I get to the resignation letter, Freddy, Okay. The cherry on top of all means just the backlash coast to coast. On Urban Meyer and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The cherry on top. The straw that broke that camel's back to me was when the executive director of the Fritz Pollard, Alliance Rod Raves eviscerated the Jaguars and Urban Meyer with this statement Quote at a time when the NFL has failed to solve its problems with racial hiring practices, it is simply unacceptable. Welcome Chris Doyle to the ranks of NFL coaches. Doyle's departure from the University of Iowa reflected a tenure riddled with poor judgment and this treatment of black players. His conduct should be a disqualifying for the NFL as it was for Iowa. Urban Meyer statement I've known Chris for close to 20 years reflects a good old boy network, and that is precisely the reason there is such a disparity and employment opportunities for black coaches. Quote, end quote. Shot con. Urban Mr Khan's on line one. Yeah. What body that and he should have been hired. I was going to say not for nothing. How do you sell that to your owner and the owner signs off on it? Because Shaq Khan is not ignorant. Shaq Khan is not not knowing. How do you allow as an owner that urban Meyer conscience said You know what? That crystal got? Oh, yeah, that I would. Yeah, I want to give him a second chance. Someone had to sign off on this, and it was the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. There's no other urban mind just kind of slid of involved underneath his door. And then you raided on Friday morning if the owner Jacksonville, not saying he's complicity with urban Meyer But he signs off on these decisions so shot Khan had to a signed off on this decision, and then the public blowback and everything going back against these guys was too much to say earlier. You can't keep that guy, but he had to have known. I don't know He's dealing with oil on this and that and whatever else you have going, I don't know if he knew who Chris Doyle is. You're born of an NFL team. And somebody, And you don't know who Chris Doyle is. Or you don't know who you guys are hiring then that someone using all the shit I don't know. I don't have an answer to that. I have no idea. But I do know this that resignation. I am buying it. I am so forced resignation. I am not buying that that you know the The statement from Urban Meyer saying that Chris Doyle came to them because of the backlash and didn't want to, you know, have any negative impact on what they're building in Jacksonville? Right? That doesn't smell right. It's not pass the smell test to May. I think that somebody called urban whether we'll shot Connor, Roger Goodell or whomever and said. Mm hmm. NOPE. Ain't happening. Get him out of the building. But don't let him in the building. Tell the moving trucks don't even show up. It's not happening on urban had to go to Chris. It's just my opinion. Say Chris Can't do it. Sorry, but we're gonna try and save some face here and say you resign and said that we had to fire you. Always busy on Friday. This time I've got one of the newest members of the Hall of Fame Class of 2021, Tom Flores, 11 20 Pacific to 20 Eastern Time. Obvious Week. Awas. I think Hope. That is scheduled in our number three 1 806 368686. All right. So in this year telephone calls, I wanna put something else out there. There is an update on Jacksonville and Urban Meyer. Urban is already upto urban type things. Urban hired a new director of sports performance. Chris Doyle. May know that name that may name or the name may sound familiar. If so, it's because Doyle was the longtime director of strength and conditioning in Iowa. He left that job last summer following allegations of racist remarks and be little wing players. As a quick refresher when the allegations came out, former Iowa player Giulio Johnson tweeted quote Coach Doyle is the problem in that building. Another former player, Tweeted quote played their 7 4000 season, Doyle made a comment about sending back to the ghetto. I called him out on it in front of the entire team. I was suspended. Kirk Ferentz told me I was out of line in need to apologize for standing up for myself and a quote. Another player. Terrence Prior told the story of rehabilitating an injury when Doyle confronted him and said, quote, maybe you should take up rowing, you know? Oh, wait. Black people don't like boats in water, do they? End quote. In the wake of these allegations. University of Iowa plays Doyle on administrative leave, launched an investigation. Eight days later he was out. He left with a settlement and was prohibited from seeking employment with the school or holding camps on school property. So you would think that would make urban Meyer wary of hiring him, right? You would think that, But you'd be wrong because in urban Meyer's world if you get the chance to hire a guy who left his last job because in numerous allegations of racist remarks, you have to take that shot. This is something you have to do. Grab the alleged racist gym teacher. Any chance you can Remember when the league had that end racism campaign and teams had that painted in the back of the end zone. And then Mayer goes out and hires the guy whose last gig was ended because of allegations of racism. I mean, that in and of itself would be hilarious if one so heinous. Because, of course, there are no other strength and conditioning coaches in the world. This is the on Lee guy that Herb could hire. It was either hire the guy with allegations of racism in the past. Or just go without a strength guy and watch all your players shrink. Get a load of this explanation from Meyer quote. Yeah, I've known Chris for close to 20 years. Our relationship goes back to when I was at Utah, and he was the number one strength coach and really he was doing sports performance before sports performance became a high priority in college sports. So I've known him. I've studied him. We've had a relationship and a quote. So in other words, Iowa didn't investigation that led to them moving on from a guy that they employed for two decades. Yeah, whatever. I know the guy. He's cool. We're good. Meyer had even more quote a lot of hard questions. Asked a lot of vetting involved with all our staff, we did a very good job getting that one end quote. Yeah, exactly how much vetting was there? If you hired the guy who just lost his gig because of allegations of racism? Did you talk to any of his former players? Any of the ones who made the allegations or did you just talk to him and take his word for it? Wouldn't you think they'd given how urban Meyer's time it? Ohio State ended with him being accused of covering up domestic violence allegations against an assistant coach. That he wouldn't want to have to answer questions about assistant coaches. Wouldn't you think that you would? But if you did, you'd be wrong. You would think that the number one thing on Urban Meyer's list when hiring a coaching staff would be? Do you have anything in your past that's gonna put me in a bad spot. You would think that, but again, you'd be wrong because Mayer doesn't care. That's really the on Lee conclusion that you can come up with. Of all the guys that you can hire. This is the guy you choose. Does that mean there aren't any non racist strength coaches or you just don't care if there are Or are racist strength coaches. Exactly what was the standard that you wanted your assistant coaches to meet If this guy can get this gig fresh off those allegations who couldn't get hired by urban Meyer Was Dave Bliss not available was that dude from Maryland who had that player die on his watch, not able to make it. I guess our Briles was a non starter. And the hilarious thing about Meyer is he believes his own crap. Even when nobody else does. He still does. This guy will bang on and on about character and being a molder of men, and then he hires this strength coach who was let go for racism. By the way, it's the same guy who sent 13 players to the hospital for Rhabdo back in the day. If I'm hiring a strength, coach, I'm gonna ask two questions. Have you ever been let go off a previous job. Do the allegations of racism question Number two. Have you ever sent a baker's dozen worth of players to the hospital? With Rhabdo. If the assorted either question is anything other than hell? No, I'm moving on. I don't care how long I've known this guy. And look Maybe all of this is totally unfair to Doyle. Maybe all the players who made all those allegations made them all up. Maybe every one of those players is lying. Maybe that incident that sent 13 players to the hospital never happened. Or maybe it was actually the player's fault. Maybe Iowa was wrong for looking to get rid of him..

He left that job last summer following allegations of racist remarks and be little wing players. As a quick refresher when the allegations came out, former Iowa player Giulio Johnson tweeted quote. Coach Doyle is the problem in that building. Another former player, tweeted quote. Played their 7 4008 season. Doyle made a comment about sending back to the ghetto. You would think that, but you'd be wrong. Because in urban Meyer's world if you get the chance to hire a guy who left his last job because in numerous allegations of racist remarks, you have to take that shot. She is something you have to do. So in other words, I would didn't investigation that led to them moving on from a guy that they employed for two decades. Yet, whatever I know the guy, he's cool. We're good. Meyer had even more quote. Lot of hard questions. Asked a lot of vetting involved with all our staff. We did a very good job vetting that one end quote. Exactly how much vetting was there. If you hired the guy who just lost his gig because of allegations of racism? Did you talk to any of his former players? Any of the ones who made the allegations or Did you just talk to him and take his word for it? Wouldn't you think they'd given how urban Meyer's time in Ohio State ended with him being accused of covering up domestic violence allegations against an assistant coach? Exactly what was the standard that you wanted your assistant coaches to meet. If this guy can get this gig fresh off those allegations who couldn't get hired by urban Meyer was Dave Bliss not available was that dude from Maryland who had that player die on his watch, not able to make it. I guess our Briles was a non starter. And the hilarious thing about Meyer is he believes his own crap. Even when nobody else does. He still does. This guy will bang on and on about character and being a molder of men, and then he hires his strength coach who was let go for racism. By the way, it's the same guy who sent 13 players to the hospital for Rhabdo back in the day. If I'm hiring a strength, coach, I'm gonna ask two questions. Have you ever been let go off a previous job, do the allegations of racism. Question Number two. Have you ever sent a baker's dozen worth of players to the hospital with Rhabdo? If the assorted either question is anything other than hell? No, I'm moving on. I don't care how long I've known this guy. And look Maybe all of this is totally unfair to Doyle. Maybe all the players who made all those allegations made them all up. Maybe every one of those players is lying. Maybe that incident that sent 13 players to the hospital never happened. Or maybe it was actually the player's fault. Maybe Iowa was wrong for looking to get rid of him. That may all be true..

Wayne Gretzky has won 18 cars in his career. Yeah, that's enough for a car dealership. Yes, it is. Yes, it is, You know? Well, in this time of the pandemic one good thing is, we know we don't have to worry about rang. Gretzky is probably doing just fine. Right? I knew the goalie that was playing for the soup, the soup, Saint Marie greyhounds, and he got us tickets on. It must been a Wednesday or Thursday night because we were playing on Friday and Saturday. Got us tickets to go to the Sioux Gardens to watch and and they were talking about this. This 16 year old kid that was playing farming and everything. He was the next feen on we didn't have media like we had today. There was only interested. You didn't have your phone, like like that. You had the hockey news. You got the hockey news. You're right. That that was about That was about it. But anyway we Hey, uh, pooch gets his ticket. We go in and do the seu guards. We watched this game. Remember, they're playing a team called the Hamilton Finn Cups. And then Hamilton Hamilton Hamilton Finn cops. I don't know what that is, You know, looked at up. I took things idea that I can remember. I don't know what that restored my mind. But I remember watching this game. And here's this skinny little kid out there. He looked like he was abandoned because he probably just about was a bantam and he's out there and he is just a magician with the puck. He's not overly fast. He's not very big. He looks like a little kid out there. But every time he has the PA keys, controlling things and his team, the greyhounds lose dove Hamilton 4 to 3 and I remember this kid had a goal and two assists, and if his wingers could catch passes, they would have had three or four more goals in the most unusual thing. About it. And of course I'm talking about Wayne Gretzky. He was out there is a 16 year old plan. The most unusual thing in that day. What he was number was 99 like they didn't have numbers like that. Like you had numbers age old. The numbers were what one through 31 31 13 30. That was like that was it. Everybody had. Well, that was the numbers and he had He had this number. 99 in any way that, uh, my buddy pooches, but he was the goalie on the suit team and there's a guy he was named by a guy named Greg Melon. And if you look up, Greg Melon played a lot of years in the NHL. He was a left handed goalie, and that was his buddy. I met him after the game, but I saw I saw Wayne Gretzky play. Um, as a as a 16 year old and I've only seen maybe until I went to Winnipeg and started working for the moves of scouting I That was the only major junior game that I'd ever seen in my life. My way Bread. Excuse him again. Yeah, it's amazing. Yeah, and he was number 99 back there. Yes, Yes. Yeah. That is pretty amazing. You You did something the other day. There, too.
