From the news

Peter King (trading deadline), and Joe Thomas and Chris Spielman (Browns) on the news of the week.
Thomas, the former left tackle of the Browns and current host of "The Tomahawk Show" podcast, on how the Browns implosion was not Hue Jackson's fault, on how football is about talent first and coaching second, on how he trusts GM John Dorsey to pick a coach to "lead the Browns to the promised land," and the unexpected coach he thinks would be the best candidate to be Cleveland's next head coach.Spielman, from northeast Ohio, on why Hue Jackson failed as Browns coach, on why he thinks Bruce Arians would be a good candidate to be the Browns next coach, and on his advice to owner Jimmy Haslam on the best move for the Browns future. My thoughts on the five trades made at the trading deadline this week, on why the Rams made a smart and aggressive deal acquiring Dane Fowler Jr., of the Jaguars, why this deadline pales in comparison to last year, when Jimmy Garoppolo stunningly got dealt, and why teams and GMs are trading more this year than they have in the past.

Saints sign Dez?, Hue Jackson's record, Duke's star freshmen
Make yourself. I'm Jason Whitlock. That's my cell is Wadi do that charger. Blue. You got on coming up. We'll tell you. There's Brian Waxley helped the saints, and I've got another installment of EMMY award winning dead dudes dues. But today we start to show a little differently, which you gotta go. Well, we got some special guests one we have TJ who's zodda. All right. Former Bengals wide receiver. But most importantly, we have Hugh Jackson here. Former Cleveland Browns head coach fired just two weeks ago or ten days ago from the Browns after going three thirty six in one, Hugh, I've been dying to have a combination with you for a long time of I I gotta get right to it, Hugh. Let's do it ego. Man. I think you are an extremely talented football coach. But I think ego has undermined careers the head football coach in the end. NFL how how do you respond? I respect your opinion. I don't really see it that way. You know? I see ego is edging. I'll God and God is the leader of my life. So I understand that. There is a pinion about people. And as you go forward, or however, you go about it people are going to have their thoughts about who. You are what you are. But at the end of the day, I think you do what you think you need to do to be successful. And that's all you can do we talked a little bit before the show. Your climb is incredible. From south central Los Angeles, the real south central Los Angeles. This auditable this way to NFL head coach and to me NFL head coach is at the top of the pyramid of corporate American, and it requires a politics that if you can't tame the bravado, the confidence the paranoia that helped you survive, south central and climb all the way up to if once you get. There. You can't tame all those elements and play the political game. That's where you feel. And that's what I see a guy that used his bravado. His confidence his paranoid to get to the top. But wasn't able to tame at once he got to the top. And again, as I said, that's your opinion. And I respect that. But there is some of that you do have to have that that toughness that's swagger as they say now to to climb, but as you climb you start learning different ways to deal with everybody. You know, I think what I needed to do in Oakland was much different than what I need to do in Cleveland, you know, that was totally different situations. And so you do learn, you know, you take a little bit of what is good, and what is bad and you continue to move forward. You admitted to me before the show that in Oakland this perhaps was an issue. Oh, absolutely. It was I mean, I tell you that I would never say that it wasn't because I truly believe that at the time at Oakland. We need something to get excited about it was a ton of losing their that had gone on. So. Now, let's fast forward to Cleveland. I didn't think that was needed. Even though that situation was kind of the same didn't win a lot of games. I didn't come in there. You know with a whole bunch of here, we go. I just knew there are some things that need to be done correctly to get to winning are appreciated you being candid up here. And I guess if I want you to be candid and testify. I gotta give you a little test. Bring it home. It's interesting. I've been the best at the position I've had tremendous success. And then also been the worst out there. Thirteen sacks one season two zero sacks and a few seasons after that. And the highs and lows and people were sitting there own outside who is that guy? Hugh Jackson used to be the quarterback whispered used to be the guy that call all the plays and get the ball in the end zone. And then you flip in you look at three thirty six in one coach tell me scout. Hugh Jackson what we're all. Hugh jackson. Didn't get it done period. I mean, I don't care. How you scout? It at the end of the day. You're still ahead of it. I was the head. Of it. I wasn't able to make it happen. When I look back at it. There's a lot of things in hindsight you wished you can do different. But I didn't. And that's why I'm sitting here with you today at the end of the day. I didn't get it done. But I need to bring you back into that meeting room coach into that locker room because he's out there. And you know, we got we got a double sided one sheet is rose income from Peyton Manning Tom Brady owned down in everyone has something on both sides of that. I need to flip that sheet over I'm looking at cars right now. Hugh Jackson, would what didn't go right or as designed in Cleveland. I think at the end of the day. I think when you walk into those situations like Cleveland, you know, the lens that you really looking through is still the Lynch from the coach before. So when you walk in there. I think the whole process, I know when I take a job, I'm just like any other coach they didn't win because of me. And then once you get into it you start to look around and go, wait a minute. It's a little bit more than what I thought it was. And then there's some things you need to walk work through and walk through with everybody. But at the end of the day, if you don't get everybody on the same page if you don't get everybody. Rope the same way, then it may not happen the right way for you. And sometimes it might just take one thing that can make a difference in you either being in Cleveland still coaching or sitting here right now. Well, more coach. Okay. So we pulled his rope. And you don't need, but one one thing one person and I play before Whittard Haley, and there's a lot of conversation about your relationship. Just set the record straight was that a conducive relationship with you guys go out there and be successful. There's no doubt. It was. I mean, 'cause we were there was two games that we want. Now, are there some things that Todd and myself could have done differently as we started to move forward? There's no question about that. But as we keep talking about Todd, it was the same thing with Greg Williams. It was the same thing with Amos Jones. I mean, I was the head coach of the football team. So I'm going to have disagreements with every coach at some point in time. Let's just happens. But at the end of the day, I mean, we were very functional as a group to go out and compete and play you out on and how you can say that I've heard gentlemen, just say, discord and. I've heard your explanation of, but when I see the organization basically to me force offense to play caller on you, and you may disagree with that. But that's the way it looks the media from the outset they forced it off. And then you disengage throughout the offseason and through the early part of the season. You're not in the meetings. You're not really according to reports. The record straight. Go ahead. Well, you just said it, I never would disengage. So I was the head coach of the team. I was involved in defensive meetings. Finally uniform time that I wasn't still totally involved in knowing exactly what was going on on offense involved in special teams meetings. And I needed to in the beginning. I'm talking about your any off season give the office of coordinator at chance to let his personality show with his staff. I didn't need the come in there be right in there from day one. And undermine what he was trying to do because that staff was put together by me. So I needed to allow him to be the best version of himself. Also, they give you the greatest prize in football, the number one pick and it's a quarterback and you spend the off season game. No, no, let's back up the number one pick wasn't there at that time. So let's get this. Right. I said when he first came in when the coordinative verge game in there was no draft picks at that time. Once the draft pick was on the team. I knew exactly what we're doing offense. And I was in. Those meetings. So the say that I wasn't I don't know where that came from. And you don't feel like the John Dorsey is sitting there saying because again, according to reports, and some of the quotes I've seen your name or of you were wanted back control of play calling and tried to go to Jimmy has lem the owner to get it is that accurate that is accurate at the end. That's after watching everything from training camp to preseason through eight games of the regular season. Finally, looking in Sam, wait a minute. This is not trending in the right direction for our offense of football team and for the quarterback. And so how could he not say that's the dischord? He's talking about. I'm the general manager. You report to me you're going to the owner to warrant going through. Up. I didn't report to John Dorsey. So you got this wrong. That's not the way registering. That's not the way to organization was set up. Was set up. Hugh Jackson reports to Jimmy has lem and then talked to John Dorsey. So both of those guys knew exactly where I was that discord it we're talking about has nothing to do with John Dorsey thinking that you were undermining him by going to Jimmy has nothing to do. How about your comments in the media publicly where again from the outside it looks like that looks like dischord when you're talking to the media about I need to get back involved with the offense. They obviously need some help that to me was a signal to somebody that you were unhappy with the current setup because I just don't believe kosher that transparent with the it wasn't the current setup. I was unhappy with the way we were playing in the first half of gains. If you go back and check it you'll see that we were struggling in the first half a games if I knew I could flip that and make that better than we had a chance to win by the script of by not so much. The scrip flip it by whatever I thought was going to be necessary to fix to get our team to play better in the first half. So. So when I looked at that, all I said as I wanted to help now the sound bites and all those other things that come out. I don't get the control those. I said I wanted to go back in and help. And then what was said to me was well, why would you want to do that? And I know why people would say why where you want in fifteen o one sixteen people forget that you can coach offense. So what I said is. Hey, look here. It shouldn't matter. What you guys are thinking. I'm the head coach, you know, as a head coach, you can walk into whatever unit that you want to and make those particular decision. That's all that was about take me to your darkest moments. And it's two almost three years of being a head coach keeping south central. We ever saw coach like you're not going to Dorsey high school like you did and saying, yeah, I'm going to play for the Costa won three games in the last three years. You were that coach at the highest level in the NFL, the deepest frustrations you had when you were at your darkest place. Oh my gosh. There was so many because I don't like losing. I mean, losing is not why you take these jobs. You don't take. These jobs to be on sixteen and one in fifteen you take these jobs a win to every week have to get up in front of that team and motivate them to get them to compete and play and find a way to do everything you can put them in position to compete that was tough that was hard within a self. And again, I think the organization for always assistant me and doing whatever I thought was needed to continue to motivate these men weaken a week out to play as hard as they could. Hugh. It sounds like I'm being incredibly hard on get on easy hot on my swear. I see a lot of myself in you, you work under Marvin Lewis Marvin Lewis to me the reason why he survived is because he knew how to walk that delicate balance between I'm to be cool with the players, but I'm also going to have a relationship with manage move. And that's where I've struggled in my career. I'd like to manage down, and I don't manage up. Well at all, and I've had to course, correct on that. And I see you as a players coach that doesn't manage up that. Well, we'll say to you again. I don't think you've been around me or no because that's not the case at all. I still to this day have good relationship for Jimmy has lem and d has lem. And or what I don't mean that you have bad relationships at the end of the discipline. No, it doesn't tell you. It does in my. Mind, they fired a man for job. He was doing. They didn't fire the person they fired the man and the job he was doing. I didn't win an on the job is managing the people above you and managing the people on the ground home. But I still like I said to me when you look at these situations at the end of the day. We didn't win enough games period. There's no other way, you I don't think anybody ever watched you coat doesn't believe you're a good football coach a very good football coach. And so when I hear John Dorsey, and what that what they said was not that you're a bad coat. They said you've managed this situation improperly. That's what they said well in denial you can Sam into now. I don't think that what was said that way about internal discord with. That's what you're talking. Yeah. I don't think that was the number one reason why he Jackson's not sitting there. Why don't they don't ever want reason winning? We did not win enough games. And number two, the one guy who is the most important that organization was trending down. The quarterback, Hugh, Hugh, I could sit here, and I had a lot of success in my career, but I still managed up poorly. And so you're right winning covers up all kinds of weaknesses and people overlook all kinds of things that doesn't mean that you were meant there wasn't discord in your relationship. Not just what your assistant coaches, but with John Dorsey and Jimmy has them as well. I agree with you this way coach I mean, let's be real. If you go, oh and sixteen and then one in fifteen and you still survive that to come back and coach third year. Maybe you are managing up pretty well. Because no way nowhere else. Are you looking at a one and thirty one coach and you're saying give them another opportunity. I will go here, though, we always heard that the reason we didn't win is because ABC, and I'm not hearing enough of the ABC to see why you didn't win when you have a collection of NFL player. But at the end of the day Marcellus, it doesn't matter. ABC because I was at the top. So when you at the top, you gotta take that responsibility. At the end of the day. It was mind to do. I wasn't able to get it done plain and simple. You know, was mind boggling to me just sitting here listening to this is when you're the head coach, you shouldn't have issued be the office. Ain't plan. Will I'm getting all period. I'm head coach every team you've been on when a head coach wanted to do some is done when a head coach wants so and so in the game, and he ain't plan so-and-so's in the game. And so from the get-go Todd Haley is from on the outside looking in very high strong. He wants it his way when Hugh said in that in I'm like everybody else, you just watching of you. I need to get more involved. They're not moving a ball. They got good pieces on office. They had a great defense. He shouldn't have to say, oh, I would like to get involved and help I'm getting involved, and I'm helping Todd Haley you hear that. That's what we do on Monday. It. That's what should have been. But because of the structure and has limited Dorsey new Haley was in. There. It was his way of saying I would like to get involved. I hope you guys are amendable to then you guys hear me. You know, when you're the head of anything, if you say you want to get involved, you get involved, it ain't it was like is it? Okay. If I get involved. So that lets you know right there that your hands are tied. They'd be politically, correct. Right. 'cause you play it for him for years. So you understand his gifts and his talents? Yeah. Is that accurate in your opinion is his because if it is that would go to my deal that in order to come back for this third year? There was some handcuffs. You had to agree to put all now. I it wasn't a handcuff of hiring a coordinator. Because that's what you want to go with it. I made that decision. Hot Hayley, Idaho. Bud. Could you say your? I love tiny. Boy, he abrasive. Now. I will say this. We made a decision. He an organization for me become the CEO head coach some I've never done. Okay. And a collaborative decision. We said this is probably what we need to do to continue to move forward and get this team where needs to be I hired who I thought was the best guy at the time to fit the position when I look back on it. I should have done it myself. I mean, again, I have nobody to blame for that. But me, I can't look you had that option. Yes. In European no doubt. I had that option. I had the option to either not hiring more hiring and I hired him. And that is on me, no different than higher. Greg williams. I know the personalities I was Dylan wet, I know the people I was bringing into the building. That's what I thought our football team needed. Because if we were gonna make a change we're going to change the narrative, we need to be good on defense. We need to be good on offense. We need to be better. But it sounds like I'm just coming at you. I'm coming up myself because I see the same thing that's eagle. Hugh, I can have Todd Haley and Greg Williams on my staff. I'm so great. I can control people who have never been controlled Greg Williams disciplined by the NFL. Todd Haley fired everywhere he's ever been an abolish he's got the same ego, as you know, way, I would have been sitting there thinking damn I can handle all of this up. I'm glad that every coach in NFL from quality control. All the way up has an ego. Every coach has all different way. If you don't have an ego. You not coaching an elite. Let's get to the million dollar question. Stop dancing because everyone is always ask. Can you win in Cleveland, and I know Hugh Jackson bed on himself. And he knows that he's a tremendous coach. But boy the Cleveland each you up as spit you out to the tune of three thirty six and one by record only. Now, I ask you that question again, cancel one winning Cleveland. And how I think they can I there's no question in my mind. Somebody's gonna conquer this. There's been a lot of great coaches before me that's coach there that's went on. And they still doing great. There'll be a lot of grandkids. It'll be a lot of great coaches. After me that's gonna come there. And try to conquer this thing. There's no question. I think you can win. Do they need to continue to align? Yorgos ation and do the things that they feel they need to do to get there. There's no question are they're starting to accumulate a lot of young talent to put in place to give themselves a chance to win. Yes. They are. I truly believe that Jimmy has lem and d has lemon John Dorsey will start to truly get this right now because I think we laid the proper groundwork the proper Brown work to get this place where it needs to be this is not religious history. This is what I thought at the time. And and I believe I said, I didn't like you take in the Cleveland job coaches, go there to die. And I at that time you were hot you would a hot coordinator would Marvin Lewis. And I said that's not all money. Ain't good money is like playing domino. Oh, him snakes. I'm just like pumped don't. And again, I go back to eat eagle made you take that Cleveland job and work with some people that were football people at the end of the day. Jason I can't deny what you feel is what you feel. I keep saying that. But the end today I made a decision. I don't get to take it back. Now. I mean, I've earned a record. I have I've been in the situation I've been in. I'm going to move on from that. I want my career to keep treading the youth a right in another shot to be here. 'cause I don't I don't know that it's not it's not about being a head coach yet is about going back and restore museum as a football coach. I think I need to go back and being coordinator. I and that's what's out in front of me. Then that's what's out in front of me. But I need to go back and do what I do the way I do it. And then get back unless assess all these situations as we move forward. Man. I appreciate you coming on, Hugh. Never never. How to board? Came to simply boy, I came to Cincinnati once and Marvin said, no, he won't talk to you. And I was like real, man. We'll talk about it out. Tom for the big stories. We're locking wildly TJ. Who's been zodda is back? We're joined now by the Angelo hall. The star with Dez Bryant who finally has a new job months of meeting with various teams in tweeting about his old one. There's reportedly will sign a one year deal tomorrow with the New Orleans Saints who were fresh off winning their battle for the NFC supremacy. With the Rams are buddy. Jay Glazer loves the move tweeting quote saints had the perfect locker room. Perfect QB and perfect head coach for Dez Bryant, the culture. They've created is unique. Not sure if it's quite desk proof low. There. I've had a lot of people trying to talk we enter this. They made an analogy to Andre rise in nineteen ninety six. I think sign with the Green Bay Packers November caught a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl. Then the next year he rebuilt his career than the next year. Went to Kansas City where I was and had a few productive years. They're out. I just don't see it though. I just don't know if this has any separation left in the tank, and maybe Sean Payton can draw him open and drew Brees can throw him open. But I just don't know how I'm not confident is going to be productive. This respect fo Jason Whitlock, let someone attention and some of the ails that you taking from the Hugh Jackson if you listen to leave that behind. Let's get positive on this situation Dez Bryant now being forced to have humble pie. And we always say that cliche humble pie. But you need somebody to serve you slice of pie. And when he gets into this office meeting room, oh is going to be slices served Allah mode. Here's the thing. You're not the best receiver on his team. That's Michael Thomas. You're not gonna even get the second amount of touches and targets that's going to be album chimera even gotta been watching sitting out there. He's going to be forced into a three or four row. Now, let's talk about Dez Bryant at thirty years old playing the three or four position for. This team in this offense of passing game. He's getting separation against your third or fourth quarter. Or if there is a corner, maybe your safety, whoever that is your dime cornerback. I love this. And a love that he's in a unique dynamic as we heard dig Glazer say drew Brees is no punk. I'll play with you breeze. Drew Brees is the most likable. Nope. Punk no nonsense guy in terms of that balancing neck. He's bilingual. He has everyone thinking these high brow because he is. And he could go down in the gutter which you get your all round up gets you pumped up before the game and be down with you as well. So drew Brees is gonna make sure one I'm Michael. So you ain't gonna wanna test me too. I got this. If you really wanna come at me Dez Bryant, I think there's going to be perfect in this dynamic me. I love it. The culture that was in Dallas in the culture. That's in New Orleans is when you go basically to hap- nine months without a team, and you don't get signed to week nine ten. You've been humbled in. Me golden take going into eagles to marry his Thomas going to Houston. I think Dez Bryant signing with the saints is bigger than both of those. There's Brian can still play you plant when you talk best receivers in the league you have to bring up Michael Thomas his name. It's not just Julio Jones and Tony O'Brien. You have to bring up. Michael Thomas das-, Brian is going to get open. And if he's not opened drew Brees is going to throw him open. You're going to the most accurate quarterback in league with one of the most innovative playcallers in the league. There's Brian is gone. Look like the last year. He had a great year was the last year. He played with a complete throwing quarterback in Tony where he's been playing with Dak Prescott. What all of a sudden it looks like he can't play. Now. Everybody going to say, oh, man. Why was Dez Bryant on the street so long? Oh man Dez Bryant could still play. He's going to do extremely well. I mean, I think there's definitely still has some let them to take. But was this mindset that ultimately is going to be the deciding factor during being things as successful. He should be really hungry. And I think is just saying that time has showed us the this just doesn't know how to tone it down. And that's what that's what fear for old Scher who. With the Cowboys is higher career. You have no choice now as you were at home. He has no choice whether tone it down be right? We'll be right back home tomorrow. If he can't tone it down, he's out delete. Bob. I so I hope he understands that. But can he fit in his office? Absolutely. You talk about Ben Watson. Ben Watson came out with me for the dry heat thirty seven years old and he's third. He's the third leading receiver in his tuten. Trae mint head has twelve receptions on the year two hundred and fourteen yards and three touchdowns demand. Head one hundred eleven yards in two touchdowns against the risking is in one game. So they need help in Dez brand. I think is can come in. There can run their offense cannot be the focal point. But yet still make play you get the right here. And we got a explored is the reason Dez Bryant has been looked at as a malcontent is the same thing that happened up. There in Seattle with the legion of boom, you got two different subcultures over there having a conflict, and we know what we call it in our locker soft belly. So so belly was okay. When things get rough we face a versity who's leading this team are you down or you hard or you barking with us or you ready to bite or you kinda like almost later front runners saying the right things. Russell Wilson right or wrong was called a soft belly. By a lot of Cass on that team by behavior. The Earl Thomas is of the world. The Cam chancellor's the Richard Sherman was looking at Russell Wilson. Like abra we over here looking at it this way, Dan Bryan was looking at Dak Prescott a rookie. And he was like yo you sold belly, bro. We are facing the versity in our second year together. And I'm not seeing this come back from you you go to drew Brees with that one. Unite even going to think about going at them like that. Because you think he's with you. But that was the issue that ignited death grind to becoming this malcontent. He wanted Dak to have the same sport that here. There's Brian wanted to football like every other damn received. John Johnston told me today damn ball all this solve belly heart belly belly belly. Would none of that. He wanted to football. He wanted his stats when the game was over. So he can feel good about themselves and be on his way to his next contract. He's not going to get the ball. Here. The way he wanted Dez Bryant thinks he's a number one receiver the same way. When I wake up every day. I think I'm Denzel Washington, we're delusional fix that. Don't you don't you think Sean Payton and drew Brees set down in that meeting toll Dez Bryant exac- exactly what show role is going to be exactly what's going to happen. TJ TJ. Did you ever have a cousin come out of jail? Listen when they come out of jail. Oh, I'm gonna do. I'm gonna be charged Jesse on the sooner they get out of jail. What do they do? They play the Bengals on Sunday act can let him act like he don't remember. That mean he'll be released on Monday. Yeah. Now this western. Are you having family come on? They all sound good. When they tell you. All sound. And if they if you can't live up to it, see you there it is all done. It's seems to love football, man. I think he'll get it. Right. This time. Thank you, get it. Right. Because like we say, it's the infrastructure there in New Orleans. There's so much different the French quarter. Then what I'm watch one go rinse cord watched players bet against his character before and he fixed that emit that there's Brian. I don't call me state. Yeah. Yeah. Issue. Whatever happened with his mother and that not not forgetting that. But Dez Bryant overall corrected a lot of the character conversation about animals on the tape. He was still throwing tantrums. He only was online. Away 'cause that's emotion Kershaw. Lebron is fine though days can't curse. It wasn't going games. Come. Secondly. And receivers you just. The man got a handful of rings. He can do what everyone's Dez Bryant has. No rings. Don't bring Tom Brady. And it is in a team game. There's no such thing. You do whatever you want because there's going five rings. You won't Tom Brady went Eddie. It's called passion, dad grew. It does. It's the same thing is now consent. He's problem. He's a character issue. He liked do. I watched the field. What you don't me the damn ball? And then when you do pro the ball through it somewhere. Where's catchable? There's Bryant went from. There will be in house to the there will be plaques of Tom Brady yelling at everybody in the hall of fame and Ken there will be none of business by doing. This was a top five receiver. And then he realized he had dropped drastically. And that's why he's yelling he looking open. Is that wrong? Play offs. He light it up. I'm I truly believe that I truly believe I I hope you. All right. I I won't mind being wrong. I want him back Dangelo Hawn TJ who spends out our back, y'all know Marcellus is dead do. Now, he's going to show us the best place in big guys from around football Marcellus. What you get your all know that you are in Washington. And we're gonna talk about the big uglies like Jason we're locked in the trenches. Let's go to number three with cheese. D N D Ford's trying to blow the whistle. Yeah. Too short tar right here. Now, look I understand that this was a penalty. But there's still a teaching moment in this. Because guess what would you an NFL? We gotta learn from all of our experiences. Look how beautiful this is still. Do you see them lined up in a sprinter stance? And what's the first thing? He does which is not good. But look at that or move. He is so far away from the office alive at Chris Hubbard two point two yards. But he's already engaged in his move a little fear right there. But still that throws off the timer. Chris Hubbard he does a punch, but look at the elbow is broken and look at the feet out of position. Ooh. That ain't cute. Look at them case was right there. So. Now, he's all across over. And now you put that anchor leg in the ground. And you talk about some breaks, you get a stiff leg like that allows you to now do what you have to do which is get that proper hip turn turn back up field with the hips. The lower body is how you finish off a sack, and you could see de fort number three debt doodoo now, stay on sides next week breath. Never to go to Louisiana tech collegiate level defensive in Jalen, Ferguson. Ferguson. Listen up here. Oh, man. Piece right there leave the country with twelve and a half sex this guy. Does this talk about it right now, you guess off his rust poorly? He replaces his feet that's not good. But at the same time look at that spacing right there. Now, you're talking about that hip turn. Again, you see office alignments starts to commit upfield. What do you do you get the elbow? You get the risk, and you stop all of your momento push the brakes and look at that office out of position now Reggie White who made this go get him shoot them out of a cannon right now. Let's see him. Boom. We got good sound effects. Get all the way to the quarterback lamb down gently clay Matthews. That's how you do. It's like a place that do for delicious. Jalen Ferguson now, let's get to our number one dead. Dude of the week Minnesota Vikings defensive in Daniel hunter lion hunter over here. Nine tackles three and a half sacks. These NFL will eleven have sex to this boy out there in the defensive player of the week and got game right here. Look out for them right now hundred gonna start off in that. Hugh, Douglas, four point stance froggy style. Did you see him get up to field? First thing you see is. Ooh, ton of swat look at those hands as anyone get your hands on me. Oh, you don't. Now. I'm going to swat them. And then I'm gonna hit you with the swim and a little bit of a dent move collapsed. The elbow collapsed you from that place. There's nothing you can do once your left arm's collapsed. But now it's time to disengage is. I'm still being held you. Let me go. Will you please say night over here to me? Like that. Look this messed everybody get out the way because here I come no matter how much Yogi now it's time for a man Daniel hundred finish it off number one. That dude of the week then you'll hunter word office of liming at man next week. I got. Got olam in better go with the Anderson like Nick, right, man. They man like this. That's moved to Baltimore where the ravens have cooled off after a hot start losing three in a row and dropping under five hundred one of the year. Joe? Flacco looked sharp to start the year, but has been ineffective the last few weeks. And now John Harbaugh admits he's open to Lamar Jackson plane a full series and possibly even more. Joe's played well. So I don't wanna get into all that. That's just we're we're rolling right now with what we got. But. Of course, some point time. I mean this guy. This guy's a quarterback. I wanna see them on the field to how to do that, you know, kind of what we're working through. So that's where we got to figure out. All right black oh struggles actually extend beyond the ravens losing streak with a quarterback among the worst in the league over the last five weeks during which he's gone just one and four look I'm still not going to Lamar Jackson. I don't think he's ready. I think you could throw him out there too soon. And undermine his confidence. I never liked Lamar Jackson go onto Baltimore. I felt like John Harbaugh was going to get fired after this year. And we already know Ozzie Newsome is on his way out. So he's going to be playing for a new general manager new hair coat of. I just don't think he's ready yet. And if they throw him out there while they're still somewhat in the race playoff contention. I think it's too much pressure. Undermined his confidence. Oh, I think this is about John horrible is self preservation. I law nature, man. I just gotta survive it survive, and then thrive worry about that later his confidence how he'll respond. This is a moment where you just say, hey man in case of emergency. I gotta break glass and get that extinguisher out put this smoke out. Which is Joe flacco who is not responding in a year where they draft at your position in the first round your put on notice. Everybody knows how that goes in NFL, and this is how you responded late. So if I'm looking at this, I know what I have to. If I'm John Harbaugh and nothing's done by accident if I'm John hardball. The reason why I want to give them a series is because I'm starting to say I need to give this guy opportunity because you are not performing up to capabilities. So we've all been there when you're in a man, there's no such thing as rotation. I determined rotation coats when I was America they need. I was like I'm tired. They're like stay in there because you demand. But when you're not the man, and you still think you're the man what happens I remember au eight Walli this dingo get a couple of them third. That's true. So true. That's moving. You are right here. That's horrible. Basically. You're saying flacco ain't getting done. We're gonna find a way to the market in in Lamar Jackson gets in and plays. Well flacco I mean, harbach and say, okay, we can work with he makes year. I'm what you you can't blame in there until they are eliminated from playoff contention. It's just impossible. He didn't play well in a preseason now, and he was seeing vanilla defense and guys that aren't even in the league right now. So what are you going to do against starters? When they're throwing the kitchen sink at you. I he's not ready unless he's improved a lot during the season. There's no way. And if he has it wouldn't be talk talk about putting him in. What about horrible? He's like my jobs on the line. I get this your career your office. But what about me Harbaugh's watching practice every week? He knows Lamari ready. You put him in there. You might be going week after. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, the Marge action isn't ready to play. I mean, I don't Joe flacco is not playing good. I don't care. What what what hardball says he's playing? No, he's not playing good at all. But to go to Lamar Jackson right now is you have a mutiny on your hands that team will not I don't think get behind the mar- Jackson at this point in the season. Still having a chance to compete and having a chance to make make it to the playoffs. And so. But but but I do understand moving forward. Joe? Flacco is not worth the twenty six million dollars. You're paying them this year. He's not going to be worth the Twenty-eight that that he's supposed to go. He and this is last year. I'm gone. Oh, it was gonna know. For fact, he's gone. Even though the Mars not ready, maybe is not a bad idea just to get them out there. But I would've asked this question before the show words RG three I thought RG three was in this dress. He's the third quarterback the Mars, you know, it's funny. He's actually the second quarterback roster. But he's the third quarterback Vigliotti is crazy. I would actually if if Lamar Jackson isn't ready, I would give RG three a chance show. I would give him a chance if you play Lamar Jackson in my opinion, you have to overhaul the entire offense. This goes on re is do what you did in college. And if you get hurt it is what it is to Marcellus point though about survival. If John Harbaugh could get Lamar on the field and Lamar shows any things far, then John HAMAs. I'm the guy. It's it's me. And my crew that have a Lamar plain will. And you can sell them or reason it can't be next season though. See no, it's mardi morning way. See this this think about? This stone with that defense that Baltimore has if he can just give them anything offensively. We're talking Lamar Jackson. They're going to be in every game. Because defensively they're so strong. Just don't turn the ball over. They'll be in every game. That's funny that Joe flacco got the memo to about survival because Joe flacco out there sabotaging the mar- Jackson. I mean, he sabotaged the whole team. Joe flacco you got to look at in Moshe. So I know you're gonna feel why open though into double coverage, and you're supposed to read when he does that you're reading the flat defender the defender collapses you out never Jim used throwing the ball in earlier in the year. And you try to throw him a suicide ball remember that he tried to throw a run into cover. So he could get his head knocked off. Joe flacco, we see what you're doing out there t TJ, D Angelo. Locking wildly. We're joined now by FOX basketball analyst, Jim Jackson to college basketball. Number four Duke made a huge statement last night blowing out number two Kentucky by thirty four points with dominant abuse from their freshman superstars with RJ bird dropping thirty three Zion. Williamson drop in twenty eight and Cam reddish, adding twenty two of his own. They were so good that they're already drawing comparisons to another legendary college team the fab five both teams had four McDonald's all America. And while it's just one game the combined numbers look pretty favorable reduce Fab Four, all right? I covered the fab five so I probably got a little bit of a bias here. That's why I made my bones in Ann Arbor. But these kids for do do look special, and they're going to be facing a lot less resistance than the fat five did back in the nineties. Yeah. I mean, just watching the game last night one. The resistance that you were facing in that game. The number two team in the country. Say what you want? India quickly on the would I mean, it was like over before it started. And you these top three recruits all on one roster proven that we can have instant chemistry and do something special at the collegiate level when we are kind of losing that story of late. So I was seriously impressed as I'm looking at my three year old son who I'm I hate to be that father. I don't wanna be lavar ball, but I don't want my son to play football just because his fingers don't need to like. When you get hit get a free throw just go in for the next play. But I'm like R J bear that was the one for me. Right. What what Jimmy divert where is that telling on land in terms of going forward? Well, I'm gonna go back because I was there. Unfortunately for the fab five loss to him in the elite eight even though we beat them twice a year. The similarities are the hype the think the athleticism the Showtime affect the differences on the bench. I think we talked about between Steve Fisher and my successor Steve Fisher admist at Michigan. He was great helluva coach he was just kinda biting or cutting his teeth in regards to what he wanted. But when you look at both of the teams, and I think you brought up a good point. And so did you Jason at that time? It was us. It was Indiana. It was Purdue. It was doomed teams that were older that gave Michigan problems, keep your mind. Michigan never won the big ten, and they really never won anything of significance more than the adulation of. A lot of people. So now what you look with this team. A lot of teams are young. So now they're going to be able to compete against these teams without the resistance. Their biggest challenge is going to be complacency because things are going to come so easy so early and I think that's where having a mys- assessed you on the bench kind of squashes a lot of that allows them to be focused because here's a USA Olympic team. Coach got all sorts all the time. It's gonna be hard for me. No matter how will they play. I'm going to be the old, man. It's like come on, man. I was there for the fair. I saw them play big dog Glen Robinson. I saw them. Go to Cameron indoor arena and play every Bobby Hurley, Kristen Laden, Grant Hill. I saw them face great resistance and perform really really, well and is Kentucky North Carolina in the championship. I just don't think this Duke team and these kids are gonna face that kind of resistance because even when they play an experienced team. They're still going to have this way major talent advantage. Look, let's really compare it. In terms of the numbers. You're talking about a team that lost nine games before they go to the finals and losing the finals. But so they had their own roller coaster to go to this team right now, we don't know the level of complacency that may occur because hey, we are just that good. But I don't see this team losing nine games. Once so internally. The numbers. They're gonna come out with a better record, and maybe a better outcome and winning the championship beyond that. They're hype was known. We saw a social media times the fat five for me up here in LA. August looked up one day and saw Betty Short's saw ball heads and I saw black shoes. And I say I'm in. And so there's something would expectations at the firefighter will always have favor over a team in this. Because when when the fan five came in that wasn't original starting lineup. Eric rowdy was in. That lineup was in that line tally tally was in. So now they after the year kind of took off they kind of knew that these guys needed to play a couple of things to that versity. We beat Michigan twice a year. They were a better team come tournament time much better team come tournament time. So the expectation level wasn't the same coming in for those guys as it is with a do. But I will say this though, I think this is great in some aspects for college basketball for the fan that really is not following. College basketball. Now, they get a chance to tune into something exciting something we haven't seen fab five UNLV team of ninety one when they went undefeated. Now, there's a pressure to say okay, Ken this team. Don't undefeated is this something to college basketball can promote in follow because we need that push a little bit more because you have a team full of stars and people now want to tune into c- stars. No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry to go here this late in the segment, but I gotta go here. And maybe we'll get to it again tomorrow. I'm just sitting here blown away thinking about how long I've been covering sports following sports. And this Duke team has become what Michigan was Michigan was the rebel team. The black team that may be blown comfortable when you go back to the Georgetown Hoya paranoia. There was a cultural force black coach black team. John Thompson intimidating here you come with Jaylen roles and the ball hit the baggy shorts. The black socks rebellious. That rebellion now at Duke will it sell the way that it is different though for you do from the neighborhood. Jay, I'll be on from Chicago from Chicago. But here's the thing about RG Bruce from Canada. I mean came over here Zion Williamson from south line. I mean, so it's not the same intimidation. Or I think on Duke. Everybody knows that they're still kind of good guys compared to what people tried to portray of the fab five, which was a totally different portrayal. There. We saw this coming coach ney stood idle while coach Calipari went out this. They wanna done. That's how our program is. That's how it's going to be. And then every year the draft you saw coast com Mari Evan guy. Head coach keta got off that fits he said, you know, what I'm buying into one and done that's going to have a different complexion in the name of basketball. Not a different. Flex you? So hey, Duke, I saw it coming do because become Michigan Duke is the new fab five. That's that's. You are welcome back Woodlock while and we're joined now by FOX hollers football analyst, Joel Klatt. Framer subject Jim Harbaugh whose Michigan wolverines have climbed their way into the latest college football playoff rankings for the first time this year if the season ended today number four Michigan would take on number one Alabama who looked pretty unstoppable after an incredible twenty nine nothing. Route of LSU in Baton Rouge. I says and problem, I think Michigan had the chance. No, I don't this Nick Sabin. And it's Alabama who's writing this stuff in the property. I think it's awesome. Would Michigan is done. But they Bama yet. No, not at all respect Jim Harbaugh. Ryan all the criticism all the haters out there. I was one of the guys saying, look, I believe in Jim Harbaugh just need to find his identity. I remember you saying the same exact thing you sitting on the island Jason Whitlock. And now, we have proven you wrong. But if I'm ala Bama, you give me what three weeks to a month. Yeah. I have two doesn't number one plate number four. Yes. For you. Tell Nick Sabin sin and now limos for all Michigan is show up to say. Oh, yes. You know, why vans from Michigan ain't no joke who Alabama's called trench warriors. Why they're always Alabama's because upfront DASS the difference. They're not looking LSU come in vaunted attack. Looking amazing negative one rushing yards in I. And they were what third ranked at the time and up until you it's Alabama by a landslide. So I've gone back and forth on this and and up until the last couple of weeks. I would've said along with you guys know shot. I mean, Alabama's so far and away better than everybody really may be saved for Clemson. And I still think that's the case to some extent. But there are two teams that if you pit them against Alabama. You can make a case that they would be within two scores. And you might be thinking to yourself to scores like everything Mimmo reliving the limos more in college football. That's one turnover. That's one return special teams touchdown. And all of the sudden, you know, you're you're in a ballgame. And that's all you would ask for if you're playing Alabama you're playing this good of a football team. All you're going to ask for is a chance in the fourth quarter a chance in the four. That's like the Denver Broncos being double digit underdog. So the Green Bay Packers in nineteen Ninety-seven and the Super Bowl you wanted a change in the fourth quarter. And and I think Michigan is one of the teams along with Oklahoma. And clemson. That would have a chance, and the reason is is because Michigan's defense is so dominant. It is so dominant right now they are getting after the quarterback that are the number one pass defense in the country. They're one of the few teams that could actually line up with two and give him problems. You know, maybe get to him maybe get into his head a little bit. Again. I'm not saying that they would. But they're one of the few teams that would actually get on a field and compete. Well, one of the things that they have now that they didn't at the beginning of the season is a bona fide passing attack. They didn't have that when they faced Notre Dame. But now shape Panter Patterson has grown up in the offense a little bit. I think he has matured and this Jim Harbaugh offense, and he's got a full complement of wide receivers. And trust me when I tell you guys this these guys on the outside our dudes, there's a I mean, they are Donovan people's Jones Tariq black who's back from injury. Nico collins. So would they beat Alabama? Probably not Joe be one of the rare teams that were in two touchdowns. Joel you. That you have earned your check for the day filling all that time just just to get to the same conclusion. They are going to smoke. Let me tell you. We always heard the narrative about Alabama the one criticism. We always said is if they found a quarterback now they did in the second best in passing of you. It's just see in the AA. So now they have a quarterback. What those trench warriors. What the defense? They always have with the best coach in the game. I don't understand where we're going with this. Michigan looks amazing. They have climbed a big hill and mountain since known by one week one the Notre Dame. Yeah, they are different team. I think they're better than Notre Dame right now at this moment in a way that they're playing football, especially after the Penn State win. But do we understand what they would have to do in terms of offense matching against their point. They will just go out there and slow drip them too. I think Michigan's improved gravy Devin Bush in the middle of that. Don't you come around on? Yes. I have. He's still needs to beat Ohio State. But he's done a hell of a job hell of a job plays. Oh raining on overrated. No, not not right at the now. Because one we now have him properly rated bolo Sabin below Meyer. But right, they're an elite. Okay. College football with you. You see him follows very Rivera. We're finally he's now proven justified your position. But seriously, I'd look at to me hid been Michigan's running backs a nice big ten running around here. I don't think he's a SEC running back. I really don't. I think Alabama's got two or three guys. This is good. If not better, maybe and LSU has proven to us time and time again, you can't just win with a run again. That's why I pointed out that passing game those three receivers on the outside because I think it would take a great passing game. Oklahoma ask Clemson as to go in there and compete with Alabama. And but now, I think you because of Alabama's offense because a two now you gotta keep pace with Alabama's not just and I just think that's impossible to do. Nick Sabin the best coat now has the best quarterback in college football. That's a recipe for disaster. I will say this. If you tell me that regardless of who the opponent is it's going to be a track. Meet I'll tell you the only team that would be comfortable in that situation is Oklahoma. Because they're ended every week. Yeah. You tell them like I fifty they're like, all right? We call it Saturday. But they don't give up sixty. Yeah. They will. Now, they will. I mean that that model if you if you look at a little bitty quarterback though for Oklahoma. I don't like him against the Alabama's defense. I do. And the reason is because every time that they face a guy that is is that good with his legs. They tend to struggle a guy that can throw it in combination with his legs. They tend to struggle. Chad. Kelly was one of those guys Johnny Menzel was one of those guys Trevor night in a game lost Oklahoma was one of those guys. He's the one player. That's the one offense. I think Alabama would really struggle. My favorite segment. Antisocial darnold Smith. Our social media manages here, hop it. Only Twitter whole wait a minute. Where's the short? What's up manually Repin ball state of war center to see my helm as where heating? I'm always rapid shirt. Whatever you have to wash. Yesterday was washing day. I was up late along. You'll segment is seven minutes. You can't just wear to gain the next day. I swear I thought she was engaged to be married, man. Where's the hill? NFL? Get out of that board aboard. Yes. Yes. I'm jay. I love you. She out here yet on don't give me come on. Now you walked to stop playing. Oh, good out of that. NFL relieving. I'm Bill Nelson on Twitter Monday that he was leaving Miami. But it was unclear where he was going. Well, yesterday, a photo service on Twitter the sodas all pro running back playing in a pig. Oh best ball game at a Pittsburgh LA finis now the desert founded Lantis by you guys think later on. We'll be playing this season. He's playing basketball. Yes. That does not look like the smart thing to do if you're planning to play football. You could get hurt out there playing pick up basketball with some jokers. Right. You get hurt doing anything? If you're trying to really go get a look at this is what a lot of the skill position players like to do to get their run. They say no bitter cardio than plan some pickup basketball or a little box. And so I'm not mad at this. But everyone's asking is he going back to play this year. Have you ever been to the Miami airport and seen TSA and they say sorry, you're flying to Pittsburgh? What is the reason to travel every single person ever has checked work? No one ever is like oh just want to kick. Pittsburgh guestbook. He going to get his business done. He's going to be playing pickup basketball. That's very. Dangerous. I might Tomlin. Nah. I'm not happy. And that's how you get the cardio. See you need to play a little more pickup. Are you speaking this? He will reportedly signed a one year deal with the saints tomorrow. Once the news broke a couple of days is former teammates tweeted their support including col- busy who saying quote. Congrats bro. Go do your thing. And Jane Smith saying quote, eleven twenty nine they, bro. You're meet jersey swab. I'm calling the first dibs fan. Congrats the saints head to Jerry wrote on November twenty nine to take on his former team on Thursday night football. Do you guys think revisit the Cowboys? That'll probably be the game diz implodes on the win is the fourth quarter. And he's only got one target and a half of a kit. That's when he close, but you know, I don't blame Colby's in these guys for short him some love. Boy, if you put Dak at cornerback usually you'll go now. Defense. But look you ain't going against the guy that he's obviously upset at. I think there's going to be just fine slotted as a three or four receiver on the saints with drew Brees. Getting the dime cornerback the dime cornerback is like some six round, dude. Who's in his second year through still trying to figure out the NFL and you got him lined up against this Bryant play and play. Oh, he's going to go spasm. She loved to Koby's Lee to for the great rapid career. You've got going Kobi's. His revenge would be the saints winning the Super Bowl. And I think there's a better chance of that than it is reemerging as a premier receiver. Oh. Darn moving on the last night's election night, many athletes or celebrities have been vocal in their support for a work for the Senate. But last night he lost a tight race to cruise shortly after the results warriors head coach Steve Kerr, this tweet saying that oh twenty twenty you guys like Steve Kerr, given two cents here. It's the same thing. I said about LeBron James where the Steve Kerr coats, go, California. Well, he'd be able to Spurs were you know, what I'll take it back because he's not talking about Texas politics anymore. I think he's talking about punisher interested in there you go. So he was though a support around behind Vado. I got no problem with it. I still don't think he knows what he's talking about. Beta was a Twitter feed that has gone viral and everybody that's all everybody knows off a Twitter goes, we would have a DUI and all. Really we go start new on. So I'm just gonna start those stones because boys a lot of rocks. I respect that. He has an opinion. Obviously he's trying to pay this forward and galvanized people to just go out there and vote. I know it gets a little corner because you're questioning the depth of it. But the reality is when I was at the polls yesterday. I'm sure nod you people at the polls. Well, they were able to see the energy. We got. People are voting in droves right now with a different energy. And I think that's a positive what we get a positive reaction and consequence from it. We'll see. But at least you got people going to the polls. I like, I I was I wish we shown the beyond say the thought she looks silly. What she was doing. What was that? However, she had on and doing this with the beta. Yes. It. What did he say? He say she's going. I saw somebody. I thought I saw a different pits. Her like say has never looked any worst and beautiful. And so doing this up whatever you talking about, you know, I need to leave politics if I'm out of it. I don't like vote next time about what's next. At least unlucky date yesterday. My God cousin sale was talking about Golden State. And he had an interesting point on the only team that could possibly stop them. It's like listen the only team that could stop. Golden State is Alabama Alabama has nine wins by twenty five points have fun. Golden State only has four but I promised they'll catch up. I think on a neutral court the warriors are two zero who was bet your life on Golden State or Alabama. I would bet it on Alabama to win the national championship more than Golden State winning NBA title because Nick Sabin is twenty times the coach Steve curry. Wow. Do you win this, man? Oh, man. Mar true. No wrong. Jackson built that team. Martin Jacksonville tea, Nick Sabin, build Alabama. Okay. That's great. And Tony Dungy built the bucks for Jon Gruden. Now who built this who owns it who lived in who actually did it. I will say this. I bet on both teams when in their championships. But a better conversation is Alabama and basketball or Golden State in football who would win that one and asked easy Alabama basketball right to go there. I have no idea what you're talking about. Uncle Jimmy here. I want say on court Joan state on the field. Let's see on that play. I wanted to think about that one. That'll to be a thinking. Hongkou Jimmy's here to help us talk about our approval rating for Hugh Jackson off Jimi. Welcome. Oh. What what what what is that? What it looked like seal team, you active duty? Now, you you a public service public? The navy seals public service. Thank you very much zero six thirty. Zero dark thirty. I'm the dark, please. Like, what kind of physical activities you've did to actually become a navy seal? There's a way I'll served in operation. Bright side. Don't worry about what I do. You cannot pass the physical which Okla don't worry about what I. You do not have the physical Dollah. Zero dark thirty. You killed Osama bin Laden. Did did you see who did it is to Dr I do dark? So could you please show me? I see something on the side that patch, man. Isn't that the papa's logo? We gotta go. We've got. Shane this game. When we come and come on. We gotta get to Hugh Jackson and our conversation earlier. Here's a highlight of our discussion with Hugh Jackson may Hugh been dying to have accommodates with you for a long time. I got to get right to it, Hugh. Let's do it ego. Man. I think you are an extremely talented football coach. But I think ego has undermined Joe careers the head football coach in the NFL. How do you respond? I respect your opinion. I don't really see it that way eagle made you take Cleveland job and work with some people that were football people that's eagle, Hugh all money. Ain't good money is like playing a domino. Oh, him snakes. Jimmy, would you think of our conversation with you? I mean, I'm Jay, I think I think it was about to get which you. Bro us about to hit like get hit like some good weeding. The jailhouse. That's g you messing with its review from Compton, man. What's wrong with you there? I was trying to respectfully as Hugh if he had the self awareness to realize that perhaps he undermined himself with his ego. Do you sometimes have the self awareness to realize that you undermine Llosa? Joe ego. Get him. As I told you earlier, I had to learn from that, and course, correct and make some adjustments. That's all I'm saying, Hugh in a way that you were badgering the witness. What's going much? Yeah. Thank very much. I love the fact that you went there, and you were going bullseye. But he stood his ground. He stood his ground, which was interesting. He did stand his ground. I was kind of to be honest with you. I was more impressed with Hugh today than I've seen. I read the interviewee did with Cleveland dot com. Where I thought he made a lot of excuses of I've seen some other place where I thought he made a lot of excuse. I thought we did collectively a good job of getting into a real play. We'll see your pool rate. Love my radio really didn't change though. You were still a dumpster fire. Talk on its own. We get to job performance. I gotta give him a one. He's been fired. It could been zero. All right, all time greatest takes the dip. You've been fired put three and thirty six on your resume hard character. I went up though to this interview. I went up to two points to a twelve. And then I thought Hugh beyond I thought this was the most authentic I've seen Hugh. And so I go I went up to a twenty three still a dumpster fire though. It's the fire character and authenticity went up. Wow. Man this easy to just persuade you get around somebody. Oh, I think he's more likable. Keep a one hundred job performance. Oh god. Lord one. Feel bad saying this because I like the man all talk greatness same do look he didn't play a game coach game same three. Now. Let's talk about a authenticity right here as Woodlock about some authentic. How the hell do you have him at a twenty three? He kept bit real. Why he was here? He was very often this and keeping the real respect your opinion. We'll, you know, damn, well, you don't respect you. He was lying to his team. Because he like, look I got to still got a job to get. I gotta go out there and get the number one draft picks. Did you have this year who trampled? Over one big. What did he won't be Baker Mayfield? Hey when he was making with Jason's Ingraham. We ran the show he drafted by name. Megan.

This happened just seconds ago. Wore madness for the Cleveland balances, they try to fix their coaching staff. And we are anticipating a news conference coming from Berea, Ohio. Addressing the moves. The Browns made today to fire head coach Hugh Jackson and also offense coordinator Todd Haley, sources tell me that often to coordinator for the Browns. Todd Haley has been fired the decision to fire Hugh Jackson, Todd Haley, and then replace them with Greg Williams. And Freddie kitchens man, it is a wild day. Cleveland, maybe not the most. Maybe not what we all expected a virtually very Brown's kind of day emergency podcast. Yup. The Browns have fired Hugh Jackson their head coach and their offensive coordinator. Todd Haley, and we are here we the heroes had to unite to discuss it. Dan, Hans us along with Mark Cecil and yes, Mark settlers? Okay. Everybody on Twitter. That's asking if marks. Okay. He seems. Okay, right now, the the mailman Chris Wesseling and on the bat phone for this emergency podcast is Greg the hammer Rosenthal. Greg you there as well. Why am I the hammer? It's a it's a wrestling reffed. Our question the hammered, I kinda like Greg the hammer Roseanne's good so Gregson via the phone, and you know, it's serious business when we assemble on a Monday to talk about the news, Mark, we're going to start with you on this your. You're feeling when you heard the news. How surprised you that happened today? We've been working here Dan since two thousand ten and this is the fifth time. This has happened to the Browns. Wow. I mean, this is so inches. More head coaches than the Steelers have had since we were born this is what they do. Is it true that it's all after Steelers losses to all six? The main thing the past six I mean, this was always I think the ups it's interesting when the firing of the assistant coach is more surprising than the firing of the head coach. This was always the powder keg going into the season. The one thing that you felt like with Cleveland, despite all the optimism was just hanging out there as this variable in this big concern was Hugh Jackson's tenuous nature as head coach. And I guess it got this far. And I'm not surprised see changes because the thing that haunted. Hugh Jackson for so long. And it began I think last season and really dug into this one was the whispering the gossiping the. Infighting when you can't control your building enough to in your own mouth to not go out on a out on in front of the press and talk about Todd Haley in your his play calling. And you saw it in hard knocks. You saw it. Now, it just seemed like there's just been too much drama. It's so similar to so many previous regimes. And here we are once again, I don't find it surprising in the least west you. We talked about just on Sunday show the Steelers they thrive on drama, but they win the Browns. They have never ending drama. They lose and you put those two things together. It's pretty terrible. Well, I would add to the list of grievances against Hugh Jackson that what we also saw on hard knocks was very little by in. I thought from the players or the coaches his in game strategy was among the worst. I've ever seen his handling of quarterbacks especially the yo yo he kept Deschamp Kaiser on last year. The offense was horrible in. That's his calling. Offense, for whatever reason he could not find a kicker who could make kicks his coaching staff that he assembled you saw in the preseason Greg Williams and Todd Haley didn't get along much less. Hugh Jackson and Todd Haley getting along. I just think like the list of reasons to keep you Jackson. We're very small and the reasons to get rid of them was was litany of reason and Greg Baker Mayfield. The report comes up from rap sheet in has been busy all morning that Baker Mayfield not the most upset guy in the world that Hugh Jackson's out the door. And when you don't have a good relationship with the number one pick that is the heart of the organization now, you really have no chance. Yeah. In Mayfield presence makes everything better at this season about his developing it's gonna make the job more attractive and now now everyone will eventually get excited about the Browns again. But it just all of that makes me more noise that Demi have women the teams didn't fire. Hugh Jackson last January. I it was it was pretty obvious. This isn't. The second guessing this is something that we talked about as a fairly likely scenario amid season firing pretty much throughout the off season. And it raises question about whether the organization is gonna make the right choice because they continually don't make the right choice. You mentioned all the coaches. I mean just been has them came in six years ago. They've had four those coaches, and they've also had they fired Heckert, Michael bardy, Ray farmer and Sashi Brown, but that's all in six years. And now they're going to have another press conference where they try to sell the fans that this is, you know, the right move. And this is the new beginning, but they were doing that to explain why Hugh Jackson was saying six months ago, and as recently as last night, according to reports, you know, they were still going back and forth about whether which one of the two guys the fire, which is just seems like an insane position to put yourself in that you haven't learned anything from all of the things that they've made over the last six years. There's always with the Browns. When these things happens. There's always something uniquely Browns to it. And this was the buildup to what happened today was what was reported Sunday morning at various outlets, including by NFL media that it was a Todd Haley that's going to go. Is it the head coach that's going to go then they fire the head coach in an hour or so later they fired their offense coordinator. So it was a power struggle where no one wins. And it just again seems like they don't quite know what they're doing Mark behind closed doors there. Hugh Jackson won the Sashi Brown power struggle. And they brought in John Dorsey. But when when the same guys involved in one power struggle after the next to start to look at that guy. And I think that's what happened here. I think that the power struggle. This time was one by John Dorsey. But also Baker Mayfield that you cannot Baker Mayfield having to side with the offense coordinator or the head coach the only bright spot I see here in terms of going forward. Because again, I am out of optimism as a Browns fan. I just want to wait and see what they do. There's none of this. Don't spin me a narrative about what? It's next and how we've had clear thinking here the clinking could not be muddier from the summer on going on to last season. If you would fired Hugh Jackson last January, you would have had an impossible job getting someone in here. There's a lot of reasons to like this job if you're someone looking become a head coach, and it will be the first time I believe since the very beginning. The Browns are reborn in one thousand nine hundred nine where an in-place general manager will pick his head coach. They've never had that it's always been the coach inherited a new GM or vice versa and they've never gotten along. And that's the opposite of the Steelers. It's the opposite of in many ways the ravens and the other teams in this division like him or not have been consistent. Cleveland has always been flip flopping with incumbents and new hires that couldn't see eye to eye. This may be the one chance if you're John Dorsey, and you get the right guy to start a new, but I am tired of hearing myself say that and anyone hearing this should be tired of that to this. We have a missive released by the Browns after the. The firings. Went public statement from dean Jimmy has lem we greatly. Appreciate Hughes commitment to the Cleveland Browns organization over the last two and a half years. We understand how critical this time period is in the development of our football team individually and collectively and believed it was in the organization's best interest to make the move at this time in order to maximize opportunities the rest of the season. We certainly only wish you Michelle and his family the best moving forward. In addition. Todd Haley has been relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator quite a last sentence. Still warm sendoff for Todd Haley, you just wonder what was going on behind closed doors with Todd Haley, he must have really not been well liked to get the boot here too. Well, Ian Rapoport reported that he was going rogue with his play calling of late against Hugh Jackson's wishes he was basically just doing whatever he wanted to do wasn't that the power they he was given though essentially with the job. I mean, do you think they at one point wanted to keep them around? And when he found out the Greg Williams was going to be named the interim. He just said I'm out and we have done by the way Shanahan did the same thing. He wanted nothing to do with this team. After all the chaos went down a couple of years ago. There's another report this one from Mike silver that the organization wanted to fire Todd Haley in September. But he Hugh Jackson stepped in and saved his job at that point. I mean, Greg this was you, and I are hard knocks files and. One of the great things about the shows every once in a while it doesn't happen every season. But every once in a while you end up learning something about the team through that show. And then you get to almost see it all play out. And I'll never forget episode one the season premiere of the Browns hard knocks season when Todd Haley was being openly. Oh, it was. He knew the cameras are on him. He knew the mics Ron them. And he was openly challenging the head coach on the coach's decision of how he wanted to by the way, I'm turning to where you sit. Greg. Knowing that he was he was openly challenging on his coaching decisions. And I thought that in the moments like, wow, there is a lack of respect in this room for the head coach. That's what one and thirty one does. And then when the losing happened again. And again, the Browns started losing this year to five and one it all came to a boil to me quite teams don't want to be on hard knocks. And it's one one of the reasons why this hard knocks was good because I think they gave such great access in Michael silvers report that he you know, made that you can help save daily job in September. I mean, this was Hugh tech and higher. So it just it kinda gets to the whole idea of letting you Jackson run this team for another year was a colossal waste of everyone's time to the point where his his own higher, essentially led to his undoing. And I know. Yeah. They'll they'll be a more attractive job for the next head coach. I honestly don't put much into that. Because you just have to choose. Right coach, whether it's an active job or not. And a lot of the coaches that have turned out to be the best are not that attractive. Bruce Arians being one Sean McVeigh was a guy who no one was really looking into. So I don't know whether that is going to help them pick a better coach or not I just hope for all of our sakes and Baker Mayfield sake that they do because I think may feel well alternately make the job easier and make the organization easier to stomach for for Mark, Mark. Is this good day for the Browns? Ultimately, I think it's an inevitable day. I mean, it's it's never good that they that all the stuff that we think about Cleveland in a negative way the turnover whenever you other team. That successful finds a way to building a good football team should not be harder than solving major human illnesses and creating world peace, but the Browns make it seem that way. And it's it's good only. If the next decision is successful. And there's literally no way to know that I agree with Greg. You have to find the right coach, but they have hired every possible. Type of coach it's almost like someone on the dating scene where you are attached to someone that doesn't go. Well, so you swing so far on the pendulum to a different type of person to have a different type of relationship that doesn't go your book back again they've hired every you possibly can. So begs the question, and I know, Hugh, maybe the Browns or the issue in this is not the head coach. Maybe it goes above above what the head coach does. Well, that was always the owner in all before it's it's the top of the food chain. And you can look at this draft class the rookie class and say the Browns have identified their future quarterback running back number two receiver left tackle linebacker cornerback. And maybe even guard as future starters. Now. It's to be determined. Whether it's their stars or below average starters or above average starts, but that's a hell of a draft class. You can look at it optimistically. And then you say all right. I'm ready to trust. This team provided has lem turns the. Corner and the guy who stepped into draft Johnny Manziel, the guy who wanted to give up a second and third for AJ McCarron the guy who oversaw Hugh Jackson, averaging one win per season for three years, which no one in the NFL had ever done this guy decides the turn the team over to a poisonous personality and Greg Williams, and to me that's why it's not a good day for the Browns because the only coach I can take less seriously than Hugh Jackson in the NFL is Greg Williams, and you decided that this is what you're gonna do a guy who who style might fit a defensive room, but can never fit in offense of room and cannot fit. What's good for Baker Mayfield? I like I was all prepared to cut the Browns a break and say this is a good day. We're turning the page, and then you do that bovin TEZ burbot of NFL head coach is going to run your team. So you so they essentially punting on the season by putting installing Williams is that is that kind of how to look at are. They trying to save the season or are. They just kind of saying, that's it. I think they're saving the season. You just don't want to ruin these players that you brought in. But what could they have done? I mean, here's the thing. There was Haley was this issue to who? When you ever you go interim head coach literally any human being on the planet. I get that you I know you not alleles. I know you ought loan. I'm not I don't support, Dan. I don't support Greg Williams at all. It's just that the season is wash and in. Greg Williams is not the plan for the next five years the door shows the ongoing problematic decision making with the top of the food. I agree and the problem with with sports is that the owner there's no referendum on the owner of the owner isn't fired the owner sticks around and the owners now onto his fourth coach. And that's a major issue, including I think we're all in agreement that Bob Wiley was the best choice. But they just couldn't do that. It couldn't pull it off too many probably said, no, he said, no, I got a bunch of Lamborghini, maintenance bellies awesome. I'm just I'm I'm not I'm not fit for this job. But I do wonder Greg. What do you think about this because the owner? Ship is a major part of the the Browns issues, and what we were what was reported was that ownership was behind Hugh even as early as this morning and the GM was behind Haley. And ultimately, the decision was made to fire the coach is this possible at the owner said well, all right? You could fire, Hugh, but I'm not letting your guy be the interim head coach either. And then it's like if that's what's happening. It just shows you the the schism and the dysfunction is at all time levels. If it was that it was almost like, well, if you're taking away my toy I'm taking away my yours as well. I hope that's not what's happening here. I think it's it's partly what's happening. They're not making a decision. I mean, that's what keeping you Jackson felt like was not really making decision. And then this one not too in between Haley and Jackson. It's kind of not making a decision other than it mitt into everyone that they made entirely wrong decision. The last time out in January. I mean, unless unless there's someone in the building that police like Freddie kit. In is the next Sean McVay. But I haven't heard a lot of that hype. Although it's probably come you. Don't get that sense. But not yet Greg Williams, by the way has been there DC since last year he's been in league since nineteen ninety. He was a head coach from two thousand one to two thousand three with the bills. So it's not like you're handing the reins over to somebody. That's in over their heads or doesn't know how to sit in the big chair. It's just more optics thing. Williams was the face of one of the biggest controversies in the history of the league bountygate. And then you've seen him. He's actually been on three major NFL films productions in the last two years where he kind of comes off as a joke, quite frankly. So it is a very Browns moved. So you you the two guys in the power struggle both fired. Then you install maybe the least likely guy to get an interim job that you could imagine if you had to pick Wesley. I am not just again, I totally hear you on Greg Williams. I'm not backing the guy at all. I feel like people were saying players are losing faith in the Hugh. Jackson message. Well, that seems to happen to Greg Williams around season two as well. And so the whole thing the whole staff is going to be gone, and it if they wanted to hire someone other than Greg Williams, it's going to either be his son or it's going to be someone deeper down like a Kensington peasy aren't Alson L saying without Sandra. I don't know. But but this is not an organization that we trust to make good decisions right now. So they've made another one that is highly questionable and the team may fade into total unwatchable status in the next. They played the chiefs on Sunday. How will that go? Unwatchable you. Freddie kitchens is a Bruce Arians guy and he's a Todd Haley guy. But as far as my research has has gone. He's never called plays in the NFL. It what do you do change the entire playbook on Wednesday before you play the chiefs? We're gonna put up forty points on you. I like Byron left, which I think he could be your coach in January. Keep him moving up better. He could be your jets. Greg Williams, and these graphics that look great, and they do have a great defensive core with octa and board and Garrett and ogan Jobe, and he would think most of those especially Garrett and water going to be fine, regardless of the coach. But some of those are drafted because Greg Williams, you know, like them, and they his scheme, and they're all going to be in a new scheme next year. 'cause great Williams you've got to be there, which is essentially every Brown's offenses defensive player since two thousand and just to put a bow on this. It's it is market has to be frustrating though, you try to distance yourself from it. But you are highly passionate Browns fan really the most passionate fan of a team that I've ever known in my life and from that Thursday night when I was in the pit of despair after the Browns beat the jets. To just six weeks later. Whatever it is it just just when you think they're going to turn the corner. They don't but the here's the one Ray of light. I would say you you guys you blew the quarterback situation with Carson Wentz. You've actually got it. Right. It looks like with Baker Mayfield. Maybe they blew it by not firing Hughes sooner. But they end up landing the guy that they always wanted in January. It is you're back to this hope cycle. But you gotta get the coach in place, and you got just hope the owner an ownership and the GM's they learn from these mistakes because it's just not a good. Look you have to build a team that doesn't peak in week three. You have you have blue chambers now. And this is this is what's different about this Browns roster Denzel award and Myles Garrett are blue chip towns. Baker Mayfield looks like Nick chub could be that kinda guy. We don't know yet. And you've got to me I trust John Dorsey headed to guys did a great job in the off season. I think you know, the question is above John Dorsey is long as John Dorsey isn't sitting in his office right now. Realizing that he's in a power struggle with the owner and rally as well. I didn't wanna bring it up. That's bring. To bring it up. Is there is this is are we going to get a missive in January that John Dorsey has been relieved do then you're back to square one. I mean, the thing is there is more talent here than there was twelve months ago a lot more. That's what you hang your hat on. But they've hired the wrong. Coach two hundred fifty times in a row. I mean, come on. I am not able to look at this logically it sometimes I'm a little annoyed. Let's let's let's say goodbye now to Greg. Do you have any final thoughts? Greg. I know you were busy man, you're doing your thing you'd writing some Jackson debrief check it out on NFL dot com and set out to Greg Williams. You know, the double d community at always had mixed feelings about him. Gregg, Popovich, definitely gets it done. But we're hopeful you can turn the corner, but a community it is why last thought is, you know, a lot of hot takes on Twitter as there always are around the Browns and the hottest though, Mike Greenberg of ESPN who had this to say Baker mayfield's agents should demand a trade that kid has some magic in. They're going to ruin him. Wake miss of music again here. Baker mayfield's agents should demand trade that kid has some magic. And they're going to ruin him for the good of the sport, the hashtag Brown's should let him go. You know, you do if you're John let them go. If you're John Dorsey sell them to the patriots for a conditional twenty twenty four seventh rounder to go to fit well with Josh, Gordon, then go beat the bills forty seven to three tonight on Monday night football. And you know, it's especially rich this Greenberg character the jets fan calmed down by combat and a little bit beacon of overpaid talent that maybe it'd be like, oh, ho. Bunsen burner of load. All right there. He goes Greg back. That's close. It will be back on Tuesday tomorrow with our Twitter show at one thirty eastern one thirty Pacific four thirty eastern nine thirty in the UK, and then our Wednesday as scheduled audio just get more content. This isn't replacing a show. This is in addition. That's because it's an emergency podcast. I am conditionally obligated to thank David Ely for allowing me to do this. This was the terms of me stepping out of my other duties today. I could see Ely making that demand demand. It's we have a wonderful, and we're alive, though, wonderful relationship the two of us, David, Elliot. Good man with a big heart. Okay. This got a little weird. All right. We will be back tomorrow. Like, I said that has signing off four quiet star marks. Okay. Everybody. Stop twain asking he's fine. Maybe wait till has a couple of glasses of wine the mailman. The old boss and camelina by and the glass till Tuesday.
