She threw her own program under the bus. And i understand the tendency to pile on but having covered many of these before as you have. That was really unprecedented address. That if you don't mind it's obvious that the chancellor is frustrated beyond frustrated with the the amount of malfeasance that i think she sees within the football program. I mean these. I think it's fair to call these sweeping violations. And what she believes they're going to be major violations. stemming from the football program She she mentioned that she was stunned. By both the number of interactions and the number of people involved in the infractions. And so you know. It doesn't leave tennessee in a great position to come out on the other side of this and say you know hey. Nca take it on us there. There really wasn't that much bad going on here. You know you've seen a lot of athletic departments kind. Play that card with the ncaa play hardball with the ncaa and say that they weren't breaking rules. I think tennessee is is quite clearly taking me approach of Of admitting its its mistakes. upfront here Firing the people that believes are responsible for the mistakes and then going forward is going to have to pivot and try to likely self imposed penalties and hope that that can fend off Some of the harshest punishment from from the ncaa but it does leave it in a difficult scenario here as it goes forward not only with the ncaa but as it tries to hire and athletic director and it tries to attract a football coach.

"Next guest one Super Bowl 35 with the Baltimore Ravens, his head coach, he oversaw one of most explosive potent offenses ever in the 1998, Minnesota Vikings. He has been a long time NFL analyst and now has written a book called The Q Factor, The elusive search for the next great NFL quarterback. Joining us this morning is Coach Brian Billick. Brian Good morning. How are you? Good morning to you? Thanks so much for joining us, and I want to know with the array of stats, analytics and computer tools that Evaluators have coaches and scouts and GMs have easier today to assess a quarterback coming outta college or harder. You would think so. You would think with the Advanced Analytics, just the sheer amount of data an experience we have, yet we still when we're talking about a first round quarterback It's a 50 50 proposition, and I would be better than that. And that's exactly what the cute factor is about. We used 2018 drafted five quarterbacks taken as a backdrop is okay. What? What is the process? How did we get here? And how is it only 50 50 on the general manager will tell you, Bill, Polian said. I just want a bat 5 25. I just need to be a little bit better, because if you're just a little bit better, it could mean the difference between that better player that better team. And maybe a championship. So it was a fascinating project and go through and looking at the data, And typically, if I could give you, you know, a short dirty answer. It's simply a matter of you Gotta set certain standards is one Professional talent scout told me there are certain things that need to be not negotiable. But when we looked at quarterback need, which is a terrible evaluator we can do, you know, move around and re negotiate some of those standards, and that's where we make the states. Is that the biggest reason that we are still on? Lee hit one out of two quarterbacks? That's because Need and desperation in urgency Forces evaluators to over evaluate a quarterback that they quote need. Yeah, And the fact that the criteria Killian keeps changing. What does it take to play quarterback in the NFL? You know the three air They're certainly the physical skills on DNO. No matter how big the bus. I don't care. Extensive young, Marcus Russell, Tim Couch Achilles Smith. You know it goes on and on. Physically, these players could play. Second aspect is the mental and emotional makeup to the player. That's typically where you have Maura the issue. And then finally, of course, it's what circumstances would go into. Sometimes there's just not the right fit. It's It's the right guy. Wrong place or the wrong guy may be the right place, and it just doesn't work. So those are the three main things that you look at it. Okay. How did we miss on this? Brian Billick joins us this morning on the show. I feel like the more that I watched the NFL Mohr that I recognise exactly what you're talking about. Right guy. Wrong place, right guy. Wrong fit, right guy. Wrong time. How often does it happen? That a guy that really could be a successful NFL quarterback just doesn't hit the right team coach or scheme with right time, and that's why he flames out. Yeah, that's a hard thing to identify. Course the scouts tell you don't know the guy could play. The coaches just screw them up and the coaches okay? I don't know The guy's never play. You gave me a bad player. But that's the hard thing to analyse. When you don't go back to the analogy, A lot of people use Ryan Leaf and paint man. And had they switched. Would that have made a difference of Brian Leave at dawn to Indianapolis Paid man and going to San Diego? Well, I don't think anybody really believes. I certainly don't that Peyton Manning still wouldn't be successful, right? We've had other issues. Obviously. But you could take Eli Manning and Philip Rivers, both who could likely be in the hall Faith on but would have been different for the success of Philip Rivers if he hadn't been in New York with Tom Coughlin, the 1st 11 years of his career like Eli Manning, compared to what Philip Rivers had to go through a rotating coaches and coordinators, that type thing, So it's a fair question. In terms of looking at well, which is it? Unfortunately, you can only do it in post mortem because you know any team that takes quarterback. They think he's the right guy, and they think they're the right place. One of the chapters in your book is about assessing rookie years and that, Yeah, it's premature. But you can use that to predict what a player's career is gonna look like then certainly you're too by your too. You should start seeing what's reality with that quarterback. You're not prone to hyperbole, so I feel comfortable asking you this question. Do you think we're watching one of the greatest ever in Patrick Mahomes? Since we have this amount of body of work It's looking that way, isn't it? I mean, certainly what he does is unique enough. His ability to deliver ball from whatever platform Yeah, athleticism, the mental makeup the way his team responds to him. You're right. We need some longevity here before we slam dunk come into the Hall of Fame, but he sure looks like he's on that track because this this young man is truly truly unique in the way that he plays the game. It's fun to watch what he did The other night against Baltimore was. It was amazing to me against another great young quarterback who just really couldn't keep up. So yeah, you'd be hard pressed to find somebody. I think that doesn't think Pat Mahomes on that kind of trajectory. Admittedly, I did not think that Kyla Murray was goingto work in the NFL into this point of time he has It's still early, but he's shown Ah, lot of promise. Did you think coming out of school that somebody of Kyla Murray size could work long term in the league? Well and I religion you know the concerns that other people have that obviously because the possibility the baseball and whether that would derail him in some other way. Size coming out of a program. Remember, that's always a concern. It's funny. We can't such a narrow parameters. The kid comes out of the small program. Well, I don't know this competition faces and becomes out of a really good big program. Well, he's surrounded by a lot of good talent. Maybe he's just a product of that talent around him in the system. We said that possibly about maker Mayfield said about Kyla Murray coming out of Oklahoma. So a number of losing pledges heightened size and the worry that okay, does his style of play. Is he going to stay healthy? That's the biggest thing. When you look at these athletic quarterbacks can translate what they do in college into the pros. Baker Mayfield, Zapopan example. He's a pretty good athlete and did some things in college. Now his athletic ability of the pros. You're not going to see that safe. He'll get killed because he's not that he's not that type of athlete that that part of it really is going. Translated to the NFL so far, Cailin Murray looks like Yeah, what he did in college game terms of extending place running around. So far works in the NFL. Brian Billick, the author of the Q Factor, the elusive search for the Next Great NFL quarterback joins us here on this show. I love free.

"Welcome back with Ali's retirement coach Brian Raleigh I'm Jennifer Perry I see you give me that look too early for this yeah as it is always over Brian we can move on to Christmas right no okay you're one of those okay now I do bring up the song this way because I mean in the stores it's already Christmas if you haven't noticed going any target Storer hobby lobby something like that and they're all Christmas doubt it seems like they do this earlier and earlier every year doesn't it yeah absolutely tries me crazy but that they actually were there was one survey I found recently that said thirty percent of Americans are actually okay seeing those Christmas decorations go up even before Halloween serves a lot of people who are already into decorating their homes I wait till the day after thanksgiving but Sarah I'm wanting your perspective here how early is too early to put up the decorations at home Brian before Halloween definitely too early I'm I'm a thanksgiving guys and I like to have a hollow we enjoyed thanks Kevin I don't mind and then put the stuff up and I like to leave them up till you know week into the new year yeah so I don't like taken down the day after Christmas or in a band at my mother in laws and in the mean they're coming down after Christmas dinner yeah I don't so I'm not big on that the in laws aren't listen into this I'm saying I know you think I know they're not listed I'm good over my wife does that if he listens in this week I'm like it's I don't like it when you're taken to hundred today over you get up on the twenty six and I got I got we got together but I think I liked honestly enjoys the holidays through the first and we always used to call January six would be like you know for us it was little Christmas that was always a traditional growing up that yeah a little Christmas and we'd exchange one little gift to all the kids and so it was just something because you know how like you have Christmas and then it's gone it's a let down yeah years and it is like all the rest of the winter and there's really nothing until like Valentine's day right yeah we would just have a little thing just like a little small party on January six that was a a Raleigh tradition with me and all my cousins are seven of them four of us so all of it of us we get together and and we only lived two houses apart from each other we're very close mothers married brothers all right yeah and so the way mothers no sisters let me say that again Sir sisters me her brother sizeable closest hers married for others my wife says I always and I did I just messed it up again even on air can't believe I did that our dads were brothers and our mothers were sisters so they were double first cousins they were just like brothers and sisters two houses down the street and little school between us and and everybody in our home town called at Raleigh bill because there's always morali kids running around playing baseball soccer football you know and then with the ball we were doing it right yeah but I know that this debate will always continue how're release to early for Christmas decorations a lot of people want to get in social media debates about that but to a lesser about retirement here Brian how early is too early to really start getting serious about figuring out that next stage of our lives well look at it I always say this it's never too early to start planning for that it's so you know getting good saving habits retiring dat you know we love it for people to come in you know five years prior because then we we've really got some time but with that being said we see people other year out two years out or getting ready to retire this year look we can still help it's just a you know maybe we can there may be some things we can do to be a little bit more efficient and effective going forward but it's never when it comes to me when it comes to planning for retirement of trying to figure that it's never too early to do that as long as people are doing some of the basics and when it when I mean basics I'm talking about making sure they're not getting in debt making sure their Max not a retirement plan at work and living well within your means when you got really good habits like that then we can start taking a look at okay keep doing what you're doing in your income is growing and you're doing this these are you know reasonable expectations of when you would be able to retire but you know what are your thoughts on that and you know we love to do that and love to meet with a lot of times the children of our select families and and just make sure they're on the right track and most of the time they are but it's not too early to ever in my opinion start planning you know for retirement it's not like putting up you know your Christmas decorations before Holloway pop for me but that being said you know yeah we we you we can help we can help people if they're in retirement or get ready to retirement five years out ten years that we we like to say for us you know that retirement its own three to five years out of retirement you know come in and see a sit down and then that least let's make sure you're on the right track it's an ideal time to take advantage of that second opinion service that we offer at Raleigh well solutions in Raleigh capital management so maybe you're in that window right now you're just getting series you know that retirement on the horizon for you what kind of wonder okay and my on track how can I spend all this money that I work so hard to say without losing it all with the markets how do I make it last in Brighton this team can help you answer those questions with that SO west that second opinion service so if you'd like to make that a priority this weekend again we're coming up on years and but this is a great time to get started there in person at the office is a lot of planning that you can do and you give yourself some options when you give.

"Back here with Rollie's retirement coach Brian Raleigh I'm Jennifer pair you do approve of this right more that's more like it right country easy I like that I understand is not that I like loud stuff all roll my windows I can drive through the neighborhood that we could do a little Eric church on the yeah I like that and it's nice and smooth I like that well I think her earlier songs actually more appropriate for us today though is everybody talks by neon trees and we talk a lot here on this show right we're going through some of our favorite quotes we just made it through one one the enemy to go so we had a word to live by now words to live by so we are talking about some of our favorite quotes on investing today on the show we've only made it through one so far because yes we do like to chat here on the weekends but I wanted to get to a couple more on today's show here Brian with you the next one on our list this actually went out to your select families that you work with recently in your newsletter and I love this one too I would rather be rich then right who said that one Nelson Peltz also helps our CFA to put this together said I doubt he coined this phrase but I first heard it from him at a seminar Mr Pell's is a legendary investor who style at greatly respect long term discipline etcetera so when he talks I listen closely and what he said is investors will be wrong more times than right so check egos at the door a few mistakes as learning exercises because they can fuel future success hi interesting note this reminds me of the investors who brag about their winners but it's never tell you other losers Brian in and we see that a lot with a lot of times people come in and they will talk about their stocks and how you know they want to hit home runs and things like that and you know when we hear about others doing great they're doing this and and you know ultimately I'll go so why are you here yeah they go well I did get a couple right but I missed out on a lot more than I got right and I'm not ready to do this with. my retirement I did it with this little account over here and not my word but there were that was kind of my play account just to see how I was going to do it sometime Hey I beat the market I've done is in the city is that what you want to base your retirement plan on right and if they're married the wife will say absolutely not should you tell him about this one tell about things like making lists against you guys sorry I was about it that is like a combat as I'm like that we don't need to do that the good news is you're here so let's do an analysis let's kind of take you through this guy we talked on the last one is just kind of taking people through the process and just said Hey you know the good news is you have done a great job of accumulating everybody makes mistakes on investing everybody does I think the thing that you learn low when I talk about Hey check the go out the door view mistake this learning exercise as well for us it our goal is not to just take control of your finances at the end of the day the conversation we have what folks when they come in Jennifer saying your the C. E. O. of your money yeah hire us to be the CFO ultimately the C. E. O. you're the boss you make all the decisions but the CFO the chief financial officer should be bringing things to you that makes sense that are going to improve your current situation and what I like to tell a lot of the people that listen to our show and a lot of our select families I will say this to when I'm very transparent about that and say look you've done a heck of a job saving you are good and unless you really mess it up you don't need us but you might want us yeah and here's what I mean by that you might want somebody to make sure you're being as efficient as possible from a tax perspective as you can you might want somebody to show you some other income strategies that you may not be aware of that may not be called traditional income strategies he may want somebody to go through your social security and say. Hey even if you wait longer and you're getting more you might not be getting more math because of how your current plan to set up and how much you have in your current retirement accounts and are in these are going to kick in it's going to push your social security to that eighty five percent threshold worse if you take it here five six seven eight years earlier sometimes it's a lower amount but we can actually get you more net and set up for later on in life in and have a little bit better play at the end it's those types of things and you said planning for children legacy playing for children and grandchildren was really important to a have you ever thought about this year's a strategy we took out of and slots book you know stay rich forever and it's really resonated with a lot of our families are select families here does anybody ever talked about tonight no no no and so those are the things that it when I say to people say you don't need us but you might want us because those are the things that we can bring to you from a value standpoint it and it really does tie into Nelson's quotas that I'd rather be rich than right and so instead of saying Hey I'm a do it yourself I've got all the answers they obviously people who amass enough money to retire in our fifties they've done a lot of stuff right and you can do it but let us come along side you and help you if you're already rich let's make sure you stay rich and if you're not rich yet and that's a relative term let's help get you read hi I guess I can say it like that so you know I do like it and his implications are right on when it comes to how we work with people and how we help absolutely and you're right Brian they may not need you but they might want you and especially as you're entering retirement to even if you've been doing this on your own and you have saved well you have invested well I think we also want some verification to that we're not missing something in this planning process and that's why we offer that second opinion service to. seven of our callers hear with Rollie's retirement coach on the weekends because we want you to have that verification that you're on track for the kind of retirement that you want that you're not missing something whether it's with your investment strategy or those taxes social security is you're making that decision healthcare estate planning as Brian mentioned there is that important to you have you buttoned up all those details and we're happy to do that second opinion service for you today when you're one of our first seven callers were gonna do that for you at nine one nine eight five to twelve fifteen and if you say seven hundred fifty thousand dollars or more for your retirement you're serious about planning for that next stage of your life getting that second opinion we're to waive that normal nine hundred ninety five dollar fee for you just for listening today so all you have to do to take advantage of that second opinion servicemen ask Brian the team your questions you can do that at nine one nine eight five two one two one five again that's nine one nine eight five to twelve fifteen but when they get to another quote here on this list and I can I think this is funny to Brian Wall Street indexes predicted nine out of the last pocket recessions it reminds me of all the Talking Heads we see on a day to day basis on the financial networks yeah it is because from Paul Davis in and really famed economist who could probably have summed up the predictive nature the stock market any better its shore rings true in resonates when you're talking about today's current market in the volatility that we have a we see sure the stock market has fallen prior to every recession going back to nineteen hundred but it has been wrong far more times then right yeah and the main point do here is we know the circle call nature of the markets that you're going to have ups you're going to have downs you're going to have recessions but two thousand and eight was more than a recession as we discussed last week on our show I mean that was really a financial collapse so typically recessions are no. not like that doesn't mean it can't happen again but the main thing that's important is that you have a strategy you have a plan and you've got you know some type of a system a plan we like the pocket strategy so you know that money that we've got into the market that's got full exposure of the market is not money that we're going to be needing for at least ten years and so with that piece of our plan goes down it doesn't impact our current lifestyle one single iota if that happens we still continue to have all the income that we've had we do the trips that we are planning to do we go and spend time with the kids would go and spend time with the grandkids we can do all of those things. and not have to worry about what's going on the market for a one two or even three year period like from a historical perspective what happened in two thousand want to know too the recession in two thousand and eight was really eighteen months from end of third quarter fourth quarter seven to first quarter of nine so even if it's longer than that you don't have to worry about it your plan is going to be built on a solid foundation and if you've got a good foundation and you've got a solid plan you're not going to have to worry what the market's doing in order to say Hey my plane is going to succeed or is going to fail yet right now Brian I think a lot of people are worried about that next recession because we've been on this will run for so long we started to see more volatility over this last year year and a half to on Wall Street so for someone listening today actually you're going to go through those worst case scenarios on their current portfolio and actually show them what a market downturn could do so they can make some decisions then on whether or not they're comfortable with it yeah basically we call that stress test yeah so we get your risk allies numbered only takes three to five minutes you go to our website or when you come in will have you do it and we'll get a number is saying Hey this is where you feel like you're at but then when you bring in your statements were going to do an analysis and we're going to stress test your portfolio will say well this is your number but this is what your portfolio actually indicates you are and this is exactly what would happen and that's what we do it's just called stress test that's one of the things we take people through and most of the time they will say that they were not aware that they had that much exposure in their current portfolio in terms of if we had another recession what that would look like for them yeah it's often eye opening information and again we make that part of that second opinion service that sos but says Brian mention if you just want to.

"You found a running game the running game is why this team was in the playoffs. But you have to make adjustments new averaging under two yards per carry. Russell Wilson was tearing them up in the deep part of the field. He was attacking that secondary. Give your best players more opportunity to win the game Pete Carroll made a bag the season this gay to stick with the run. Carol the head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the offensive coordinator, some people questioning getting into peered the quarterback was among those doing so next. I wanna. Get to Chicago and the NFL yesterday officially changed bears. Cody porkies game ending forty three yard field goal. From miss to a blocked kick. Dan, all ski does that make any difference to anyone? Absolutely first of all for all the tens of thousands of Twitter trolls that probably regret some of the stuff that they said to or about Cody parkey, but also just has a player now like Cody parkey can go through the off season and not have to have that weight on his shoulders. Like, man, I missed that cake. It totally fell on my shoulders the finger got a piece of it. And so now he can take some solace and going a little bit of a block helped him out. He's not in complete blame for how that game went. And kinda ended up the next one. I want to get to the team that won that game. That's the eagles. We'll be looking for revenge this week. They take on the saints. They lost their week eleven forty eight to seven Jason Peter says, they ran up the score. We wanted them. Again, we got them. Again, this time we're coming. Ryan clark. What do you make of that? I think they need a reason to excited you need a reason to go into this game. I think that it could be different you want to incentivize your team he wants to energize your teeth. But this was an absolute bean Dow the first time the Philadelphia Eagles visited to the New Orleans Saints, and it doesn't mean the game's going to be to say, but Jason pitas is trying to lead his team into this game to say, we need a chip on our shoulders, and that's the way they'll go play in war. And finally if you were watching Sunday in Baltimore chargers ravens as Lamar Jackson was struggling fans were booing him loudly pretty much every time he walked off the field. There was a chance of Joe flacco 's name at one point running back. I cannot Dixon tweeted you're either with us or against us real spill, I'm ten toes behind Jackson. So he's very firmly defending Lamar Jackson. What did that? What do you take away from that? Dan orlovsky? I love the teammate support you can tell how quickly the Mark Jackson has won over not just the teammates. But the coaches. In the organization. This is his team forward. I'm loved that support that being said that from career if you don't want to get booed played better. I was on bad teams. We got booed. If we didn't wanna do it. We had to play better. That's the reality of much given much expected. But I love the teammate support the one thing I love was they all say to a man, even John Hobo. This is our quarterback of the future. This is the way they should be supported. So I'm with Dan, I love the fact that teammates are stepping up in support of Lamar I of how quickly he's won over that organization that had a franchise quarterback. Now had Super Bowl we do quarterback as their guy the Markham's. It is a first round pick. And that's a very delicate situation works plays. Well, he's gone. All know, though, you don't get an opportunity to play this game host this game. If not full of more checks hundred percent and he played better in the fourth quarter. All right as we continue. Ryan Clark is all over social media. We have his lively actions on Twitter last night..
