And buffalo finished with the second best winning percentage in the conference, but bill's coach Sean McDermott says his team better be ready. That's a good football team. That we've split with this year and we have a lot of respect for them in terms of what they've done and what they've accomplished this season. So we've got to get ourselves ready to go. The dolphins handed the bills their first loss of the season during week three. Buffalo was a 32 29 winner over Miami at Orchard park on December 17th. "Home of the bear Cats. Tonight. The bear Cats look for their third consecutive winners. They host the Temple Owls coach. It's your first home game in 41 days, but with only a few 100 fans permitted, is there. Such a thing is home court advantage this year? There's really not, you know, you really find that the home court advantage is you don't travel, you know, playing, you don't know tell you none of those things, but once it comes game time, there is really no advantage. And I'm not sure there's not the advantage doesn't slide to the road team. Sometimes I thought I went on the road for us. And sometimes well, it's been so long ago, but I certainly felt like that at home a little bit as well. You were supposed to play at Memphis last night. He wound up with a home game tonight against Temple instead. Wasn't a big relief not to just lose another game. You know what? It was relief. We were very excited about going down to Memphis to play them. You know, I think your guys ready but to lose a game overall because of Cove it and then not be able to make it up would have been difficult. Tonight For the first time in 25 days, we have bear cats basketball to look forward to after six straight postponements due to covet 19 the cat's return to the court tonight as they take on the temple Owls in Philadelphia. Cats are back tonight. The bad news is, we have no idea what to expect tonight. The bear Cats will not be at full strength. We know that at least one walk on Is expected to play tonight. But coach Brandon would prefer to wait until closer to tip off before sharing those details with the temple Owls. We do know they've only had a few five on five practices over the last 3.5 weeks. What are some of your biggest concerns tonight? First and foremost the continuity, you know, very little five on five action guys that normally sit on the sideline and practice and now the main sources of practice and and doing thing. That's what you're gonna have some funky lineup today. Secondly, I don't want them walking around here looking like isles. You know, the wide eyed somebody gets back door cut. They're saying who you know whose fault is this? Whose fault I need them to come out and just be patient and what they're doing. Move. The ball left the right make it look a little bit like practice because they all compete hard in practice, but also play free because they're not going to get yanked out. If they'd do something that they do, They're gonna go right back in the game. Cincinnati comes into the game of the record of three and seven. The temple Owls are four and five temple like Cincinnati has had Over 19 issues this year, But there's came at the beginning of the season. They only played one non league game. They had trouble getting on the court to begin the season. They have been playing regularly of late. Whereas Cincinnati was able to play early in the season and again has had six consecutive games postponed much more to come, including news on who's available tonight, and what walk on our walk ons might play well know that closer to a tip off In any case, we'll take a time out when a pregame coverage continues its tea time. "And hard and Terry Nelson back on the John Brandon radio show. If you're just tuning in, we had coach Brandon on for the 1st 15 minutes or so. But since the basketball team did not play last week or the week before, or the week before that we don't have a lot of News to pass along where basketball is concerned, So we talked to coach Brandon for about 15 minutes. Then we spent 15 minutes with the new defensive coordinator at you See Mike Trestle and momentarily, we'll be joined by the athletic director. You see John Cunningham again If you are just tuning in coach, Brandon told us at the beginning of the show that Things are looking good for the bear Cats to return to the court on Thursday, the next scheduled game Thursday night on the road at Temple, although he also said that they will not be at full strength. He can't get into details are not allowed to do that. But they hope to play but it won't be with everybody on the roster. He says. Not at full strength because we're not there you and I dance hold. That's it. Keep it simple. You know, he talked about trestle talked about when he Talks is to his players. This is is this. You know, Newt Rock me Good. Don't do it really well, So we were just talking about the fact that we had coach Brandon on for the 1st 15 minutes of the show tonight, and it looks like I'm knocking on something. That the basketball team will be able to play on Thursday night. The next scheduled game at Temple. How difficult has this been for you and the entire athletic department watching and waiting for the a basketball team to try to get back on the court? It's been really difficult. You know, I feel just so so badly for those guys because they stop and start is what's so tough. You know, if there was a period of time, which we knew that we were gonna have to deal with the virus and then get back, Um in, allow them to say okay, we're gonna have 7 to 10 days and then we know we're gonna be back. That would be one thing, but but what we've been experiencing is kind of that. Will bleed of cases that and it's just gonna stop it Start for the past really three weeks. And that's really, really hard because you just don't know what's around the corner. But I agree with Coach we're ready to go. Um, we're gonna head up the temple and get our season back underway and then hopefully the rest of the way we should. We should be good. Coach. First of all, I don't think I'm officially said over the air. Congratulations on you getting his job as athletic director for the versus Cincinnati. But then so did you get there you get thrown into a hornet's nest with cove it and all the other factors that you're trying to deal with, and even having to, you know, cut men's soccer. These are some tough situations that you were thrown in the midst of how have you handled it? E hope of candlelit. Okay, um, You may want to ask my wife how I handled because she's with me all the time when I come home kind of shaking my head, But you know, it's just It's certainly been a tough year, but it's been a tough year for so many people. We're not alone in athletics. We've had to make some really difficult choices and and had to make some really difficult decisions. Obviously, we're with a larger picture in mind, which was to make sure that we're doing everything we can. To stay within our budget. To be smart about about the resource is that we have so that 2020 doesn't bleed into 2021. That's really been. The key for us is that we want to be able to turn the page quickly and move forward because I'm really bullish on where we're going with the vaccine and what things they're gonna look like in the fall. But we don't want any. You know any reverberations from 2020 kind of leaking into there, So we had to be really smart with our budget. Make sure that we were good there, and now we're ready to go and we're really excited about where we're headed. How much did the success of the football team help morale throughout the building? Massive. I can't tell you how much it meant to people it gave. It was a light during a really, really tough year. And, you know every every week being able to see them, perform and see what they did all year and how they gathered themselves and created a culture and in you, they took So much strength out of that year, too. It was not easy from the time they went up to higher ground to start camp in August. You know they stayed up there longer than they usually do. They didn't get a chance to come home all the way through to when they left the field in Atlanta. It was a really, really tough year and it was hard, emotionally physically. Eventually and so just to be able to play those games, get those winds and enjoy that success in and kind of, you know, get the get the whole department around those successes and celebrate those winds is awesome. No, My favorite basketball player was Magic Johnson and just being around that culture in L A. And he would always say, And so is Pat Riley. You always say that Organizations wins championships because if you have the organization than the talent wants to come play for that particular organization, and then it's easy for ever talent to come and watch and knowing the talent that you have in the Athletic department. I've been in some of those Monday meetings when I was running the sea club. I've seen the great group that you have that are in those meetings trying to come up with solutions for the department. How are those meetings taking place now? Are they zoom? Do you still have the be able to go into that fifth or sixth floor and have those means with the eighth floor in your office? Are you still having those meetings in purpose? How was that process going? Yeah, Terry, They're almost all still zoom Every so often. I'm going into work and have been for a while. You know, I've been being tested with the teams, and so I've been doing that. But every so often, I'll have a face to face. You know, board room where we're both into the table. Um, you know plenty of distance away. But other than that, it's really been June. But you're 100% right in terms of the staff in you see athletics just there. I call them problem solvers in their unflappable and what they do, and they rolled their sleeves and they were not afraid to do different things that aren't necessarily in their job description to make it work for you see. And I don't think you get that everywhere. And so I've been really proud of our department. What we've been able to accomplish during this really weird year we're visiting with athletic director John Cunningham. John I asked you recently. About the feasibility of a team outside of the power five, making it into the 14 college football playoff. And you said it was a two year process. Explain what you meant by that. He said. To me, it really is. If you look at where we were this year, where we started the season in terms of where your ring because where you're ranked beginning years, so important in college football, and then it becomes what is your schedule look like? And who did you be? Well, unfortunately, this year were rank really high, but we didn't get a chance to have some of those games that we're on our schedule. We're supposed to go to Nebraska. Which.

Rumors have been swirling that the Chargers are looking at Brian Table who's the offensive coordinator for the Bills, and the Eagles have requested to interview and talk to Josh McDaniels, who's the offensive coordinator of the Patriots, although we do know that Josh McDaniels story of him going Indianapolis and coming back to the Patriots, and yada, yada, yada And so here are the opening still left the Chargers, the Texans, the Detroit lines in the Philadelphia Eagles. Of those four hires Jordan. Which is the most attractive at this point. I don't say the Chargers. I would say that because Justin Herbert Joey Bosa. Keenan Allen, third one, James, That's a lot of talent and the most important piece is that quarterback position that you haven't Justin Herbert? S O. To me. That's that's the most desirable of one's open. Do you disagree? I mean, e Think Overwhelmingly. It's the Chargers opening. I have a hard time going The sifting through these last four jobs. First of all, are we really living in a world where Eric the enemy Might not get a head coaching job really doesn't feel like he's gonna get one of them. That's the case. I'm confused because you've got Brian table who's seems to be according to sources in the brain rumors, the front runner for the Chargers job He supposedly never interviewed in Houston, which is why the Shawn Watson is so upset in the first place. Philadelphia is pining for Josh McDaniels. And so I guess that leaves Detroit. And I don't know Eric. The enemy going to Detroit just doesn't seem like what I would have pegged to be The perfect fit and Matt Matt Stafford's a really good quarterback, but he's not that offense is nowhere near with. The Chiefs is now I guess that's why you bring in a guy like Eric the enemy. But if I'm narrowing it down in that kind of way It's just I'm I'm like, can't believe that it's unfortunate because if Detroit is the last one for the taking its as talented a guy for a head coaching gig. As there is out there and I remember us talking about this weeks ago on the show that Eric the enemy will have his pick of the litter with these jobs out there, and now you're looking at one in Detroit. If that's the last available if you're projecting and how you are say that it comes to that. You got a quarterback, and Matthew Stafford, who's a veteran. You don't know if he's even gonna be there. You've got a situation with a limited projected cap space to work with and a place that needs a complete overhaul. It's not a place you want to go necessarily. I'm saying, though, so so, yeah, I like to me. It points to right now. You know, I'm a gambling man. I would imagine that air P enemies back in Kansas. I'm inexplicably next year. I really do. As it's laid out in front of us, if what we believe to be true with these other voids and how they might get filled again. He can't be hired right now because he's coaching right now for Kansas City is they play Cleveland for a birth to the S E C championship game? But with what's in front of them and how these franchise organizations are moving. I don't see a check. Is what with the A Superball champion. Three time pro Boiler was on with Chin angle Junior earlier this week, and he's also shocked that the enemy doesn't have a job yet. I'm just surprised that coach being and still have the doctor recognition in the love that I think, and I think a lot of people crossed the NFL world thinks he deserves. So I'm obviously time's not up yet. You know, we still have the opportunity to get a head coaching job. But I'm surprised that he hasn't been hyo on these teams list. And I mean he very well could be high on some of these teams list. He's still coaching, so it's not like they can name him a head coach right now, while he's coaching in the NFL, um, but I just can't believe he's not at the top of everyone's. It's like this is insane to me that we are living in this world where it seems like who would be the top candidate. I was on these airwaves. Not too long ago. A few short weeks ago when we found out that Bill O'Brien was leaving the Texans, I'm like this is a sure fire home run, Eric, the enemy's going to the Texans is going to coach to Shawn Watson. They're gonna, you know, firm up that offensive line, maybe get him another weapon in the run game, help out the defense just a little bit because he already got JJ Watt over there. Who's a leader? That defense and you know what the Texans are going to be right back in this thing in here and now. Shifters reporting that to Sean Watson's not going to play another snap in Houston. It's the most undesirable coaching job and they haven't even interviewed. Eric the enemy and they didn't even look to Robert Sala. Well, it speaks to me. And kudos to a guy like to Shawn Watson, understanding his value and worth and what his voice How resonates in this league for him to say. I know that I am this organization. I know that this thing falters without me, And if you're going to disrespect the process and not give a look to a guy who's clearly deserving of it, and it's funny to me because I think about to Shawn Watson. How Chicago don't even look at him and even interviewing said now I mentioned to Miss Keyes. The guy for this job to some. Watson can't lead our team and so he knows firsthand what it's like to be overlooked. It's something that you feel like It is simply because of appearance that didn't sit right with Shawn Watson. And he wasn't afraid to say this is not the place for me my anger levels from a two to attend and how this has been handled and I could control that..

We put it together class in like Adams would Um, uh, Jeremiah Davenport and Zack Harvey, along with Dave in Cumberland, Uh, Troy in the deal about Jamie coming to help us a great deal in the championship last year. Did sorely missed the three sophomores, or, you know, somewhere higher minute guys and probably from our biggest producers. Right now, our freshman classes rank the top freshman class in the league, so I think there's this number that I've had a bunch of recruiting classes here. I have the juniors and seniors I did didn't get the opportunity to sew with the freshman class. How this started, you know, playing really well. But Taken freshman mistakes and, you know, like, gonna be really good. Mason's gonna be really good. And then you, you know, no blood have gave back at some point, So I'm really excited about the source to recruiting classes and as far as going in the future We are all with some really good guys we made because we made the decision during covert that we work in a study buddy.
