Key Super Bowl Matchups: The Case for the Kansas City Chiefs & Tampa Bay Buccaneers Winning Sunday

"The Kansas City Chiefs versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The long road that led us here with many unique twists and turns is a story unto itself. Now, in about 3.5 hours, the game which promises history, the chief's looking to become the ninth team with back to back titles. The Bucks hoping to put 1/7 Super Bowl ring on Tom Brady's hand. I'm Scott Graham. Happy to be back with your four Super Bowl Sunday, and my co host is a man who won two Super Bowls back to back, including an M V P honor for Super Bowl 32. He's an NFL network in Westwood, one analyst, the Hall of Famer, and he's been with us each week on this program all season long. Well, Davis. Welcome aboard. Scott. Man, It is eyes exciting and getting ready for this big game. A man I'll tell you what. When you look at how this one is going to play out, everybody is focusing on the quarterback's rightfully so. But when you start looking at a couple of the individual matchups in this game, there is a lot that ends up coming into play. And one of the things that everybody's been focusing on all week is the fact that the chief's dinged up on the offensive line going with backups there against a really strong past Russian. It Defense for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That seems at least right now to be one that's playing at its peak. Is that the key matchup in your mind? Well, that is one of them. I mean, we look at the Bucks defense and we've seen what they looked like the last couple of weeks and listen. Todd Bowles, Their defensive coordinator, has really got them dialed in. They've gotten after, and Rogers drew Brees and, you know, I think this defense is going to be, you know, formidable when it comes to getting after Patrick Mahomes, but You know, he's such a great quarterback. He's such a guy that can get out of situations that you don't think he could get out off s. Oh, that's gonna be a challenge for this team as well. When you look at it, and from your perspective, especially, I mean a running back a hall of Fame running back and very rarely these days is anybody say, Well, the running game is going to be a really big part of this. It seems like that's becoming an antiquated idea. Can the running game for the chief's help in some way, take away some of the aggressiveness of the Tampa Bay defense? Yeah, I believe so, Scott, because you know all the focus of this game really is gonna be on the chief's weapons, right? You know, you got obviously Tyree Kill Travis Kelsey. Then you have the other guys out there to me, Cole Harmon. And then you have Clyde. That was the lair who last year was an El s. You had a phenomenal national championship game, and I think a game like this is going to bode well for him, because if you're tired of those, you can't double team everybody. Somebody's got to have one on ones. And if you're the bucks, you've got to put more people in coverage. So that's gonna leave a light box for Clyde Edwards. He layer not only running but the short passing game, and I think that Eric the enemy, and Anne Rie will find a way to make this young man have an impact in a game like this. On the other side. Everybody, of course, is focusing on Tom Brady. I mean, he got them here, and he is once again right in the middle of the possibility of winning a super books. 10th visited pressure absurd, absurd. When you look at this team, they've got a whole bunch of weapons as well. Is there one that you focus on the offensive side of the ball for Tampa Bay? That you think might have a bigger impact in this game than another? I do. I think it's actually Leonard for net and not necessarily in the running game. But little has been Really good and their passing game, And I think that kind of matchup between Leonard for Net and the linebacker Damian Will Wilson and Anthony Hitchens from the chief's, because when you start doing that thing where they played in week, 12 Barnett had a decent game, but Ronald Jones caught the ball in the flat and was able to have a long touchdown score from that ball that was thrown into the flat. So no one is talking about that. But I think that again, Hitchens and Wilson is gonna have to have a really good game and not again. It's not with him running with the football. He's been a threat as a receiver, which is something that his game is never had. So I think, you know, Of course. Tom Brady likes to get his backs involved in games like this member James White. He had a phenomenal Super Bowl. So I think later for now is gonna be a guy that's gonna have to have a huge impact. Last thing for this segment does the first meeting have any impact on what we're about to see in a few hours here or is that just research? Yeah, I think you could take some things. Most coaches look at the game and they kind of take The things that sort of worked, you know, everything goes. She kind of just you pick things of a game and say Okay, well, we have success against his team before. You know, we'll try to do it again this time, but maybe we're gonna disguise it a little differently, but run the same kind of plays. So, yeah, I think you there's things that each team can take from that meeting. But, you know, I think it's about who can make those adjustments and going into this game. I think ultimately it's going to be the team that comes out

"Between now and the start of the season dependent on what the chiefs do So that that makes sense is a good point. Josh clydes lehrman eight third round. How how do you feel about that. They it's it's just a pick that is never going to happen for many. Because i'd rather take. David montgomery like clyde edwards helaire was inefficient all season long. He he was getting the volume pre labial. Bill he was inefficient with so. That's david montgomery i mean. It's it's david montgomery on a better offense you know. He's kansas city is going to be a better offense than chicago is. But then towards the end of the season we saw david. Montgomery get high. You know his his situation improved. The volume finally started hitting. And clyde never really did that. I mean i know he had had a good week here but i just never really felt like i don't know i i. It's never going to happen. Because i'm gonna take david montgomery over. You don't seem to have any trust issues with the montgomery. You feel pretty confident It's gross like it's it's just it's just me finally resigning to the fact that talent you know these things. Don't matter at running back it's just do you. Get the volume. Is your team good enough to make the volume count. That's all it is interesting interesting. We'll right under clyde edwards. Helaire is patrick. Mahomes is the first quarterback taken in this best ball. Adp the first one. does this. Make sense you josh now. No it doesn't they. They looking into win rates. I mean it can. It can work out know. Quarterbacks can be taken this early and and hit but you know just looking at at patrick mahomes you know in the last three years. He's finished as the quarterback one six and two. And that's really good but like let's just say he finishes as the quarterback for you just lost was three rounds of value for our value. It's just just looking at the way that quarterbacks drafted the quarterback one is so far ahead of the quarterback four. Did it just feels like a huge risk. Yeah and there's actually today. We'll talk about another quarterback who actually appears in one of these two rounds So we'll talk more about them when we get there But yeah your point is definitely made in definitely make sense in terms of if he doesn't produce like quarterback one high level then it just feels like the value just totally evaporates on that A name that you know is a free agent this year so we don't really know exactly where he's gonna land is alan robinson at at the three point in the ten figure around Justin beyond robinson fatman. I'm big on this. Are you excited. Are you excited or you feel like. I don't wanna you know best ball and drafted right now. I don't know where he's going to go..

Chiefs matriarch, now 82, will continue Super Bowl streak

"Under head coach Andy Reid the Kansas City Chiefs have one thing in mind when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl fifty five on Sunday make it two in a row read knows this is a special game obviously historic game from the standpoint that there's never been a home team that's played at their own facilities so I I think that's a unique situation the defending champion chiefs high powered offenses equipped to do just that having averaged four hundred fifteen yards per game during the regular season including over five hundred against the same Buccaneers just a couple months ago Patrick Mahomes will have plenty of weapons at his disposal with the receiving corps led by Tyreek hill and a ground game topped by Clyde Edwards Hilaire I'm Tom Aikens

"Is that they consider every one of them to be important. And i think that's something that's easy for us to forget when we're looking at it from the outside And say oh this guy in the sixth round. he's just going to be a special teams mean when we're on day. Three of the draft. And i have four hours total of sleep the last three. I don't want to talk about bowe. Pete keys yes i. I'm right there with you. Yeah i mean think it's real easy to do that is to just concentrate on the first two or three rounds of the draft and say okay. These are the guys that we're going to count on. But the chiefs clearly. Don't look at it that way. They demonstrated that when they traded back into the draft to get a guy like keys himself. You know they didn't wanna they didn't want to wait until next year to get a guy in that spot is allow. This is a guy we want. Let's give up a pick for next year and get back in there and get it. And that's the sign of a team that considers draft pick potentially important. Not all of them will turn out to be important but any one of them really could be and and this is great evidence of that. We've got this fourth round guy who has made a substantial impact on the chiefs this season as far as we know it seems like this draft note that the chiefs might have gotten another six rounder next year from their seventh rounder conditional from the dolphins for deondraye washington and washington had to start against the chiefs and so i wonder if that was the condition where he had to be up. I mean this is the weird thing about sometimes with the draft. We'll see where the cheaper picking the team will eventually release that officially but those little moves do matter you know and not think you sometimes see cornerback x. Who everybody knows. Because he's a cornerback. In the national football league traded for fourth round pick only a fourth rounder. That's a legitimate need you know. And so weren't paying attention to those little moves that we sometimes see in the off season and otherwise at the deadline so on and so forth when we come back. We will reveal our questions as we start. Chiefs falcons week the chiefs win and they have an afc by stay with us. On the arrowhead pride editors show back here on the arrowhead pride editor. Show coming up in a few moments. We will reveal the best chiefs thing we heard all week. But first we have our chiefs and falcons questions. And i will start with this. Because i think it's important for the future of the chiefs and how they perform potentially in the nfl playoffs if this is the tandem. And how levian belen daryl williams look in this new one two punch. The chiefs are going to be working with projects that clyde edwards helaire will not be. Available for jason falcons. I think we can almost assume that falcons are eighth in the league yards per game at stopping the run. So it's a nice challenge there. I think they're going to look pretty good. I saw some moments from le'veon bell last game. That reminded me of the days when he was in the yellow and black and torturing the chiefs by staying patient and waiting and having a snack and then finally passing the line of scrimmage for twenty five yards. I'm seeing little glimpses of that. And i would like bell to be able to have a game here and unfortunately it's at the expense of edwards. I don't want that. But i i like to see him get a game where he can get in a rhythm i know he basically played that other night. We're edwards. helaire was waiting on the sideline just knowing that he's the guy for the next game or two and maybe more it sometimes makes a difference in mentality and i'm eager to see how he performs an of course good to see dr williams back in the mix who was having a pretty good year before he was pseudo replaced when bell came into the lineup and he took the rb to spot. Yeah you know the only real difference between bell today and bill in the yellow and black is the offensive. Line's right really. I mean You know the the chiefs offensive. Line as i said before did a great job in blocking the run against the saints. And that's good but to say that they're on the level of what those steelers offensive lines were like. When bell was having his best years is is just not fair they they. There's no comparison between those two groups. And that's not too that's not to be banging on the chiefs offensive line. They've they've just had too many problems. They're doing the best they can with who they have available. And i'm i'm i'm credit the work that that andy heck has done to make these guys serviceable in the nfl. But you know watching bill today. Compared to the way we want to see him when he played for the steelers he looks slow but he's not. He's remained patient. He still looking for that whole there just as many of them so i i agree. I think this'll be really interesting to see how this plays. Out against the falcons on sunday. You can say john. I know that. Eric would andy heck heck of job coaching up. I said well. I don't see everything that eric would say. I will say this. We can get to your next question them. Yeah i'm wondering if the chiefs can stay focused on a game that some people are already considering meaningless. I mean i'm already seen people saying. Oh we should. We should rest against the falcons and go all in against the chargers. First of all. I don't think andy reid is going to do that. Yeah i don't think that's going to be his. He's not going to be tempted. To look at the falcons game is meaningless. Not when there's a chance it could clinch the by for the chiefs. Because it certainly is that. But i think it's hard for players to stay focused as andy. Reid mentioned a couple of weeks ago. They've got those phones attached to their hands they can't just stay away from the newspaper and To remain unexposed to what the media is saying about the team it. They just can't afford it anymore. And there's a lot of talk about how this game is meaningless. And i think it's going to be hard for the players to to filter out that noise than focusing on winning this game. I think it's worth the question. I i just i have so much faith right now in mahomes and.

"Are that the chiefs are optimistic. He would be available for the playoffs. The chiefs are fortunate that the playoffs probably won't start until the division round for them. So i think that increases the chances. I still think that's a little soon for a high ankle sprain but i can see where they would want to be optimistic. It really does seem that. They're clearly going to take him off his feet for the next four weeks or so well. They were optimistic that they would get laura. Dna tardy back for the playoffs last year. And i didn't They kept dancing around about it and never played in the post season. Even though at the end of the season they were talking as if he had a good chance to get back in there so we may not see edwards helaire before the season is over but thankfully the chiefs have a really good running back behind him in levy on bell so I'm not too worried about it. I i was funny. This morning is going through the power rankings For the nfl writers around the country and several of them mentioned edwards. Helaire injury As being a big problem for the chiefs but it's not as if the chiefs have really depended upon him all that much. And i don't see any reason why bell couldn't be the guy to do it for right. I think they're slightly different backs. But we're to say this you can make a case that fell actually at this stage. And i'm not saying eventually clydes not going to be de guy in an imperfect spot for kansas city at this stage for what the chiefs need out of the running back position is someone would still some juice. And who's a good pass protector. You can make a case that maybe bells better suited for that. I know that's a very odd. Take and i actually really like clyde edwards helaire but i think this to run right now. Bell actually might be a better option. We will get to andy reid and more of them in the second segment. But this was something i actually asked andy about on monday. You got You know if you guys are so. I mean it's a i think we're okay at that spot and levy on. I felt like the last couple of weeks. He he's Let me present with us. He's very smart. So don't this has nothing to do with part. He's he's really intelligent loves plan. So that's the positive part. And that's why he's been able to pick it up so fast. But just were you kinda know your guys and then the blocking schemes. You gotta learn those and you have to have enough reps on the get that feel that these guys have been so i you know i just. That's where i wished. I had just a little bit earlier but but we're good. I mean he's isn't a good place he he's a he can see it and feel it now and And so we'll be okay there if you can't go and Have quite an we've got. We've still got them in their rotate. And that's that's been beneficial. So what i anticipate here is levian bell to be the guy i think daryl williams will also be in the mix. I don't think this is a scenario where suddenly le'veon bell turns into this bell cow eighty percent back. I think it's going to be something similar to what we've seen with bell. Clyde i think bell will be out there for sixty sixty five percent. I think we see darren williams for thirty five forty percent and they go on darwin thompson. Mixed there. chiefs are fortunate to have that depth and thomson and then they made an additional move on tuesday today by bringing in elijah mcguire who is on the practice squad last year. Didn't make the chiefs out of camp this year. Spent some time with the cowboys and dolphins dolphins wave him last week. He's available mcguire now on the practice squad that it's getting to your deep deep deep roster. He hasn't had an nfl snap since two thousand eighteen so he would only be in an emergency situation. But i've talked to some people who liked mcguire. I think the chiefs are okay at running back. And that's not to say that. Clyde edwards allaire is not going to be an asset. I think this is a well built depth by brett beach and the personnel staff wellness. Because the chiefs always want to have that kind of depth that running back This is one of the positions. That andy reid consistently says. You can't have enough of these guys. Yeah and history has shown that he's right dirt throughout. Andy reed's tenure. They've had lots of running backs in there for depth and they frequently had to go back to the second or third running back for much of the season so They've handled this just the way they should. They've got a guy that they want to be there guy going forward. They have another guy that they'll get back next year. Who will be a clear number. Two behind edwards helaire and then a couple of other guys that can get things done so it. They've really done a terrific job at this position. Beaches really stacked that position. To and i i think that chiefs really like lobby on bell. I know that it it. It had seemed like a foregone conclusion that he just walks after this year. And i just don't know how they would fit him in the salary cap for i think the money i mean le'veon bell. Let's be honest. He likes money like all of us. A could they pay him enough for him to wanna maybe stay here. I i wonder. I probably more likely moves on but i think.

"We definitely got the stay in pass protection a little bit yesterday but one of the other things that we saw Is your usage in the passing game. I believe your second. Highest yardage on the season happened yesterday. against the dolphin Do you feel like you're getting more integrated into the passing game. More comfortable in the passing game. Oh yeah oh yeah and and you know that was is this is just knowing and understanding girl on offense and so many you know you just Whenever whenever you feel like you know we're never puts reading and he feels like a of in and implemented then we use it every every implemented so this week you know I one of the one of the things were getting the ball to the backing and pass the ball in any situation in ever since relation and anywhere on the field. And you know it. Just so happened that i was able to get a couple of cats and get a feel and getting yards so it all worked out. Yeah you know we. We saw you know late in the game. Second ten You flexed out into Into the boundary and into the field. Sorry outside the numbers in pat room. Baldy on that second insane. You're able to make dude miss run through some contact. What does it feel like knowing that this football team has that kind of confidence in you that that patrick mahomes has that kind of compensated communist and you get the ball out there and a big situation. You guys are trying to ice that game some you know is this is this the no i was. I was here for a reason and I mean i'm. I'm i'm doing my job. That's you know that's something. That's something that that i've never been a you know. Never shied away from the big moment as thing. Just you know just thinking about that as big moment. I'm out there playing football and understand. You know that you know if it was a big moment and we're try again but you know at that time of my patients go out there and play ball and execute. What's called so if posted have that day companies me then when i of meat to have tame confidence in myself so I'm just out there. Doing i need to do you know quite i know you came into to kansas city with the prior relationship With daryl williams. What's it been like to have him there with you as you transition to the national football league it's been it's been great. I've been a pretty much. Have a pretty much. Have a piece of of back home. You know here. And my family's is tarot. Somebody who's who's sitting waiting when i first got to. Lsu he was a senior. And i was a in the room. And whenever i need. I just lost you know darryl was. That was the person that kinda showed me away so it's pretty much the same east. Just you just need pretty much the being around somebody. I mean dow's that has been here even even from thanksgiving You know able to suspend spend spend time with with him and have a home cooked meal just back home pretty much. Felt like i was back home without either. So i i'll i'll let you let you go at this last question you talk about home. They're just the second you're hitting the place close to home In new orleans next week how excited you get you to get back to louisiana. I'm very excited. I i have been back since i since i left the left to come. Come out here you know start my nfl career career so excited to get back I was. I was thinking tonight when i was waiting room. Sitting this thinking about The time that i was able to play in the superdome and you know now now it's a it's craig i'm asking you in the nfl going going. Thank goodness at the dome. "Hang out with clyde talk some football such a cool thing. He's doing wanted to give him a chance. Right off the bat to talk about it and then we talked a little bit a little bit about football after that. But here is the interview with clyde edwards. Helaire talking a little bit right off the bat about what he's doing with the usa i've picked up with usa official nfl salutes. To service partners make military members and veterans in usa some virtual lounge or talk talk for the military community And this is something you know that during this time we can't be together You know as far as kobe. And everything else was going on This is a great way to continue the the clothes on the nfl and military And you know just for you know this whole ordeal. I wanna thank you as usa For making all the days you of them you know. I'm excited for tomorrow. Can't wait cried. I i was reading here. You're you're gonna be recognizing a military base that whitening air force base in fort riley. Is that correct. Just a tomorrow I have my. I have the diverse child And eight pm. A to serve dot com. And i want you know at whiteman air force base in fort y at fort riley. I want all those guys to be out You know in in the virtual allows you know sending whatever they can get any any any any questions in that talk talk tomorrow You know just just one to to get a feel feels their presence and let them know that you know. Usaa and with military of upbringing. And just hanging out it. you know. i'm i'm i'm here for him. And and you know. I just wanted to get my son. Luke's or service. Hey quiet you know you just talked about. You know maybe military kind of hitting hitting home with you. Maybe you have some. You have some family members. You grew up in in a military family. What was that like. Is that partially why you're participating in this. Oh yeah oh yeah no that. This is one of the you know if not. That's the main reason. Live client participating with my momma in hornby am i am. I have been in the marines. You know just you know. I had that. I had a house i loved. Reagan is this just like the military background and you know seeing live younger Senior say a stanton and the blue the blue male of packaging at the door Just knowing that usa pretty much been secure in my life in the military's been comparing my license. since i was born Knows it gives me that conflicts so then to do this and now Just having a protect me all the way through and nfl and then able to partner with images of the special for me well. I wanted to make sure that to give you a chance to kind of talk a little bit about this before we got into football talk and i appreciate unit so awesome. What you're doing with the usaa I did have a couple questions for you I i work for pride we we cover the chiefs exclusively And so i just kind of want to know you know for you. What's the toughest part of the transition to the nfl. To this point i would i would say The trust the trust the toughest transition for me Was was can't and just just the beginning of the incident that family. It was just different. You know not being able to go in and right away with the team and fall camp was different being could be around. Hasn't really getting to commencement guys and and and understand Each person was was different. And it's a it's a time of bonding really on virtual columns and everything else to to really understand each other And and the the way we we've done so far it's been pretty crazy just to just to you know just to say that we we had so little time to get around and You know i. I feel like that was like the biggest the biggest talk for me. It's just you know again in transition of just understanding what the nfl is right. What i this. What's your favorite play. Rookie news oh i was. I was a my my touchdown against houston I in harley. I mean i now I mean if if against houston You know every everything everything about the moment For me was listened surreal. I was saying that that was the best best moment for me. And i think I think for a long time. It'll probably be the moment. Yeah that was fun. Play making that dude miss in space. That was That was a great introduction to chief kingdom for sure One of the things. I was looking at this. Does this week was your highest percentages. On the season you saw seventy four percents of the snaps highest saw five third down. That looks like your role might have changed a little bit Getting some more of the third down looks. What do you think shown The coaching staff recently. To kind of have what looks to be a little bit of a change in a role You know i would say is more more companies than anything and you know. That's what and just knowing. Okay well Having having longevity of and have list that was kind of you know when one of my biggest fan points is knowing you know. I know i can. As long as i'm healthy. I can continue to hold and just You know with my with snaps and everything then not necessarily down at the beginning of the season but not really having to play something snaps You know we're we're getting off the field so quick and alton You know it was some things some things i wasn't able to display on the field and you know one of those things where bliss pasco You know getting off the field somewhere early so You know at time to win all through the season And and practice and just more understanding of offense and more understanding of the around the league and just knowing it's a it's a copycat league and you see the same things over and over again I i'm continuing to you know Pick up blitzes better and just and just understand. Just the the the differences of defense. That's that goes around. So i would say confidence they they. They seem confident. They see That i know what i'm doing. I can go up again. "You just heard from chief said coach andy reid and quarterback patrick mahomes and now we continue on with running back. Clyde edwards. allaire tasted the raiders. Here in that first game when they came into kansas city. What do you feel about this. Rivalry what have you learned about this rivalry intensity of these two teams when they meet on the field. The intensity is going to be there and it's not just you know through a through but you know it's just through just through the just through the nfl world so just alternately we are. We're coming in coming in to compete Correct things that we need to correct and go out and compete and try to win the game. The next to sweeney go the clyde with the bye week probably got a chance to reflect on the first half of the year. What's the biggest thing you've learned so far is a pro. And what would you like to see. Improved in yourself in the second. Half of the the biggest thing. I would say i learnt patience. And that's that's something that you that you learn over the course of life but you know different. Different aspects of life teaches different sets of patients. So i just learned learned patience and come into the second half a season you You know it's is those those little things Just being just being a rookie. Just those those little small. And i mean i can pick things from from every play every game but it's just those little small little knickknack things that i just have to improve the nate taylor not wanna ask you a question on builds off of To but being patient and understanding both the offense and seeing some of the misdirection and some of the trick plays that you guys ran Just what's it been like to experience that why you guys run those plays and what it was like for you to be involved in your touchdown against the pampers Just just watching everything unfold. You know throughout the weeks is pretty cool pretty fine and just that's the bank. Football is building blocks. And and that's what kind of what kind of stimulate my mind. Just it's a copycat league and being able to being able to mix and match things to throw ultimately just throw a league off and and that's what that's what coach reid is is is very being. And that's what that's what keeps us interested and it keeps us you know wanting to to to compete and just making just knowing that we have all of those things in so many weapons i it just gives us a freedom to just go out and have fun connects to hell clyde your senior year at lsu lose a game are your last year electricians. They did lose a game and then obviously only lost one here that she's where'd you learn about the makeup of this team after a to kind of maybe motivated you even more to correct wrongs. I feel like it was a mindset. That i've been having You know my entire life after a loss we we we flush it and i bounced back and then The next week you know as soon as as soon as we possibly can. We're back in the playbook trying to trying to the things that we can improve. But you know this this league is about you know wins losses and you know once we once we took that Tickets to the chan keep moving and and and try to go conquer the next thing. "You don't miss a single episode. You deserve from chiefs head coach. Andy reid and quarterback patrick mahomes and now we continue on with running back clyde edwards allaire climate a couple of weeks ago when the after levy on bill signed eric was seeing that it was an opportunity for you that like learn from him and have him serve as a mentorship role. Some what is the biggest thing that you've picked up from him over these last couple of weeks you know. The biggest thing is just how we practice And honestly you know leaving. i came in. And he's a bar in a different different little pip and you know this. It's always just extra competition in once you once you get an extra person in their own It kind of up up temples the competition so ultimately just away. We compete You know day in and day out You know we off the field friends but on the field you know You still still doing anything. Power to get on the field. I compete. it's going to. Nick chan glide. You've had the chance now to work with this offense. Patrick mahomes is just name the offensive player the week boat. What impresses you working with a quarterback like cham. How has he helped you. Out of your game to this level ultimately the most simple danika come to mind police Just the way Everything is handled entice situations and ultimately Keeping a polka facing and understand everything that we have called. He has called and just understanding the concept of what we have called her. Cut you off there at the follow up. Going eight quebec ula lady on break. Eric also mentioned that he reached out to you before he signed. What did it mean to you when bell did reach out to you and let you know he was coming here ultimately it was just a. It's a respect thing and that's kind of like a a man to man thing so Honestly of straightforward is just respect petra. Glittery clyde i know you talked about Learning the concepts early on back before got started right and you kind of touched on that a little bit earlier on things however all you think it's going as far as You in the passing game right in and understanding your role all the rules. I know it's so many domino's kinda fall on each other we. Your role isn't just about you and some of the other things you gotta understand. That are going to where you are in the passing and the blocking side of things for all the musician right now like we're right on schedule As far as talking to coach coterie is nothing. Nothing negative being said alternate lead. You know just just this game and being an nfl everything. Week the week so You know every week just finding those those things get better and and those Those are always in my up there for me as far as You know pay as name just understanding my role and my concept. If if there's a week you know that ultimately the rainy bag has has his one eleven. And i go out and do my job and a passing game sweetie. It'd be glad. I was wondering if you could share. Maybe the advantages and perhaps some disadvantages of being a rotation rather than. Maybe you were getting sixty five. Seventy percent of the snaps ultimately advantages is firstly leagues. And just being able to always be be fresh on the field when when you're in and I mean as far as being a running back disadvantages out. Probably just say groove and that's that's probably whatever back just just finding a groove to get in But you know get near when when when a person's numbers called and ultimately we're we're we're pro so executing when your number is called and and being able to work with opportunities that you're going to tailor obscene. Most fans are aware of you being the top. Pick in the draft this year But i wanted to ask you about sean. Borton a guy who was not drafted. But what's it been like to get to know him from training camp on and just to see the success that he's happy on the other side of the ball he does. It seems like he does everything right And he's a he's probably wanted to one of the hardest working guys at that. They came in so Receive fair respectable does does everything he's asked to do. And you know what you do that and and and you a person who's all the way boarding you also results come in and right now. He's he's he's enjoying it and everything he's doing. It's working out for him to go. Adamant and steve go. Hey clyde pretty soon you'll be getting to the point where you've played a fault you would have played a full college season and you might have ten or twelve games left in this season. I'm just curious how you're feeling physically and how you're doing with the metal gras on that you need to get through a full. Nfl season right. Right now. Ultimately i can say that that i haven't been in the training room this this season yet so everything is As far as the the the things that i do to keep my body healthy. I i feel like it's working so far Mentally i just feel like i've only pretty much scratched the surface of what would i can possibly get done in what this team could possibly get done is a everything is is so fast and weak. The weak it still doesn't feel like a as as long as a college season just because of how the nfl works..

Good players play aggressive. And we've got a good week of practice that that's handy curious with you. Know the election day over Could you review force. Just sort of how you guys handled or discussed that internally. I mean it was more informal. Players can talk about candidates or whatever months himself. Did you guys ever do that as a team. No we just Alerted in the first of all they set it up so With the and here so they've been in touch with this whole training cap'n and so on so that was kind of their their baby right there but it together so So then i alerted that they would have the day off now that they didn't know that but they were gonna have the day off and then we just went from there. Everybody do their business and take care of what they need to take care of to blur. Kirk siegler. Andy inbred honda quick. Follow for this foot. We're getting a couple of first year players today on on the conference call. And i was wondering what if you could speak to the challenges. First year players in the nfl had this season because of the covid restrictions and no preseason games now mean it's different came in without much other than Like we're doing here This these were our meetings. And we'd put the play up on the screen and we talk about it and You know we can show them video through the computer and And so that's that's what we did. having run the play That didn't take place on your. You've got everything installed and you've run it for you. Get the training camp again. That wasn't the case this offseason so I was proud of the way. They came in and attacked a camp. And they didn't let any distractions. Get in the way of learning deny shovel and how about the the value of having experienced championship locker room to walk into for these guys. It helps well it helps. It helps to have guys that are willing to share. And that's the most important that you can get the experience locker room but nobody wants to give the young guys a helping hand. That's s not real good either so but this grew here They're they're willing to share and teaching. Check their egos at the door on that. It's going to hurry be good herbie. Good morning coach.

"Position. It absolutely is an advantage in pass rush if you use your hands if you're able to. Develop some the techniques with stabs in long arms to effectively use that length It's a huge advantage. That being said it comes back to the technique. Fundamentals and I would argue that there's some really good football players that don't have that type of necessarily that based on their techniques and fundamentals play just as effectively as guys that have. You no longer limbs in. Our hope you enjoy Maui. By the way it looks really nice. About the. Question about the rookies that got obviously snead and cheese, just your overall impressions of them. How excited you are that they're on onboard with the cheese and just how they've been responsive into virtual meetings so far. and. I love a man you know, vs you know last year I like these family and get no. He's San digital that there's GonNa be some more. And then, luckily for these two guys, and we get him into the rule now I see it understand why he felt that way man. These guys have been spotted on very good with the question that we asked on A. A consistent basis in all the things that goes bags acts to them, You know they're doing their best right now? So if they're going to do this and continue to do it, you know throughout the course of their career. That means you know there's some really good work on these background or these kids in on me and called merit will join them every day. Go to San McDowell going, Sam. A coach Mitchell coach merit I'm under when you guys get together with sort of the expectation. Is Your guys as of now plan to get out of one thornhill this year? On you know coach. Rick downstairs and Co spags, you know he's been through this a number of years. You know this is only my second year and trying to understand, but you know. I just understanding that and with one. You know we've always tried to prepare other guys because you never know what can happen and we have some good young talent. You know at the safety position, so it gives us an opportunity to evaluate. Or other players. You Know Ron Clements. We brought him in. A Money Watch and doesn't really see you know what we'll be able to add going forward, but you know it started with coastal. They gotta be four phase. Guys aren't on special teams as well but you know so far of them picking up in understanding. You know what we're putting down you know for is the scheme you know. We feel very comfortable putting them out there, and then now we just have to work on the details footwork of how to play the tape neat. We can show. And all day, but they gotta go out there and they got to perform. Adaptation good at him. Across Tonio Hamilton in what you've seen A. From. Raiders of giants. What does he need to show you guys? "Just what jumped out about you about the rookie on tape? That made you really likes Jones and data please. Yes, so you know. I Christian I've had a great relationship and I've had a couple of conversations with him over the course of the off season. Here I'm not going to get into the details of that in. Honestly you know. He's got his contract situation going on and I trusted Brett Kitchen. His staffer handle on that side of things in just Kinda. Leave it there. In terms of Mike Dana. It's been really good to get to know him. I've been impressed with his work. Ethic been impressed with the way he is. Studied, the time he spent on his own the questions that he's asked. You. Know give you a very good feeling about where he's at in the work that he's putting this situation of so I'm excited again to get him on the field and see what that looks like, but been really happy with how that's gone so far up to this point. Harold Koontz go head. Coach of your family or Dole well-meant. I got a question of. What Bj talked about with the virtual training. I know Andy Reid it Mitch, and sometimes these guys been taking quizzes, and and you just you need to see the eyesight on them. How do you feel it's been received from urine? Just kinda teaching, and back and forth, and do you feel like they're getting a lot of those rookies? Especially Mike, you know. How do you feel they've been able to absorb it? You feel it's benefited more with the individual training aspect of its wealth. But that's a good question So in terms of the the format, say there's been some challenges both from a coach's standpoint and preparing things in from a player's standpoint in functioning in that environment which. That's good I think that's invigorating in a lot of ways, and those type of challenges ultimately help you improve. If you don't get out of your comfort zone ever you know that you Kinda just stay stagnant in doing the same old thing I certainly have found that to be the case with. My preparation for the meetings challenged me to come up with creative things to keep it interesting different ways. To combat presenting information or quizzing information and so. I won't say that it's been easy by any mates but it has been challenging in a interesting, and I think the players. You'd have to ask them. I don't know if they would have that same perception of how that's gone or not but. You know it's it's new. It's different and I do think there are probably some pieces of it. That will probably last even moving forward. Just, in terms of teaching it's been. It's been fun in some elements of it from that regard of. The second part of your question I just totally lost in my answer. I was just saying with the rookies. Eighty remains Mitch. Site and there's been possible quizzes and everything. Have you seen that especially? My yes. There have been some in you. Get this for every rookie class. You know you get some separate time with those guys on their own with just the young is in. That's invaluable. Time a lot of times they're. They're not willing to jump out there in a group setting and ask questions in admit they don't know things. Even though you know they don't have it all figured out and so who's individual segments when you have them or important, and you really get to see a lot more personality out of them a lot more about who they are in a more relaxed environment Both Mike and in Trishaw Warton have been fantastic in that setting I've actually a really been impressed by those two guys. Not! Most specifically in their work ethic in time that they're putting in on their own. When we're not actually engaged on a call that's been one of the biggest impressive elements for those two guys. An.

"Our part in the offseason as well. Mitchell we appreciate today. Thank my friend. Everybody. Thanks to ask you about that seventy. It was a seventy seven yard vehicle you. Put Him on twitter a few weeks ago. How many times did you try that How many times Jamaica and You feel like the NFL record gain record is in reach for you someday. Sitting conditions right. yeah, so obviously all season. It's kind of when when you're messing around a little bit typically in a normal practice. I would never go back to that distance. I think when you start getting to seven seventy seven yards. You're doing some different things with your technique to get. The ball is far as you can. So it did take me a bunch of drives in I mean obviously. There was a ton of wins like I'M GONNA. Go out there and see if I can beat my my best my long, which would have been a kick in Mexico? City the seventy two yarder in the warm ups but yeah I just kept pushing the ball back in. No, I wasn't very accurate from back there, but maple and any kind of went by Ron Social. Media So. That was pretty fun to do. in terms of the NFL record I think it's sixty three sixty four yards. Zach correct in that area. Yeah I mean I think there's a ton of Schenker's. That have the leg to to make a field goal. Live snap hold everybody trying to block the cake in a game situation. It's just does the coach kick her out there. Because if you miss, the other team gets the ball with great field position, so you kind of have to get set up with end of halftime and of game situation I don't think we've had. Potentially where would have been that long of a field goal but I think definitely when it's warm out, be prepared to make in training camp. We made a sixty seven sixty five sixty seven yards. The other went to Jean. Full operation so I mean I'll be ready to go, but it has to be kind of perfect situation. Where if you miss? It doesn't matter in the half for the game is over. You feel like your ability to make a long kick like that. It's better now. It's twenty career. That was maybe say when you got to the chiefs. Completely I think.

Looking for someone in particular can speed up to them if you want again, let's start with the chiefs topic in the twenty twenty NFL draft rookie running back Clyde Edwards Allaire. Thanks for the time we appreciate it and kind of welcome to Kansas City right with with everything that's going on one of the things that obviously very big for running back getting on the field, and the NFL is the ability to pass clock ride, no your assignments and then handle that you can't get your quarterback killed if you're going to be in there how you know. How much is that a priority up for you to be ready to to work on and to know your assignments? But also how difficult is it? The fact that everything is is virtual. You're not actually able to get your hands on and and work the techniques that they want you to use. Will. You know pretty much. Let me It was it was same things in college You know the the the past, Bro. Aspect is something I worked on every day with with Kevin Falk in mind and my previous running back coach Tommy Robinson so being able to work. Something today. I picked up the skill from. well learned techniques from Timing Roberson K. Fall, and I'm still able to to do work way on it, so desk technique wise not being able to do it. Live against against actual opponents, not at this moment you know. I'm still able to work. Techniques the ball being able to use you buy neighbor to toward to techniques shoe. You know you're able to do in order to get the job after. A hervey go ahead hurry. How you doing now hope you're well. Good. AM I. Remember at the combine good mentioned. When you were growing up. You spend a lot of time watching film long. Kevin Falk as well as Marshall. Faulk, but I'm curious. Since this guy is local to Kansas City. How much time did you spend watching Darren roles? And how much if you spend time watching? How much do you seem of his game in your game? Well, you know I was I was introduced to ban later on in my baucus I really didn't start watching them to topic. I was late on in middle school. Invest when he kinda pretty much, took everything by store and a you know I was able to. implement. Everything, that I was watching from not just only him, but still watching camera Fox films, still watching Marshall Fox still watching bears near had old cassette bear Santa's tapes, so I mean I was I was watching all these guys that you know that I felt like was was similar to the way that I feel like I would. I was renting at the time. And you know everything. Just kind of came into play, but Dan Dara's is someone you know I'm I'm close to him. Now have this personal. I'd take him every every now and again and. He said you know so. As soon as I was drafted, I gotta take him, and he was like you. My hometown and be ready. I need anything. Just let them know. All right let's go to Jennings Go, headline. Good Morning. Thanks for doing this. Special teams coach Dave felt last week mentioned how everyone gets thrown into special teams, mixed views unclear on your tackling ability. How would you create tackling ability as it's going to be put to the test in a couple? Follow up what you feel like. You need to be working on once. You guys are able to get practicing on. More. I'll tell you right now. I'm a football player and I started my career playing defense so How having an wasn't always on auto boss, so that's been attack. This is no concern I was. Always online of you know safe defenses force in high school Every time needed to make a tackle attacker was made, and you know I was. Able to do special teams as far as in college, and did they do it. as force never did it again because you know. I didn't didn't have to do it in a game, but as far as me, covering everything at at Lsu, that was something that I did. Every year so much actionability something I'm not concerned about. Go to Pete Sweeney GOPI. thank you for spending some time with us. Curious! We talked to Deland McCullough yesterday, and we asked him about what he likes in your game, and he mentioned the fact that Short area quickness is strength for you ability to make guys miss. Why do you think that elusiveness seems to? At least on your film comes so naturally to You You. Know, honestly I couldn't couldn't I couldn't tell you something as this that I was born with something. And then you know ever since I felt like that was gifted that I had. Is You always try to find things to to make it better? I'll work on our ways. You know to to make you know elite as far as some some guys were say. Say So I just wanted to work on it. Make you be quick faster than the next person is always kind of the name of the game. It is what I is. What I made my game being being quicken and fast and small ears is the way I get Oprah's away. A layer got work at the combine is both receiver Enron by. That's how get his hands are. They asked him to to to switch and give the receiving Joseph try. This chiefs. Offense is probably the most unstoppable force football and it just got even better which is scary. That's what jumped out right away. At least to me regarding Clyde Edwards L. Air and that was his versatility and how he can seamlessly switch from a running back through receiver. That's so important Andy. Reed's offense you mentioned how successful the Lsu Tigers were this year undefeated fifteen to know winning the national championship. I think Edwards Elaire has ended up having eighteen. Hundred or so yards from scrimmage. So my question is why as you're watching all these winds. What did you see specifically from him? That jumped out on the big plays. He's only five eight five nine but he plays so much bigger than his stature. There's a play. Lsu Remember forever in the Alabama game. It's like a third and ten. I believe Album Rings Heats Broza dumping.

"All right. We've kind of broke down the Clyde Edwards Hilar- PIC- hey might seep into this conversation. A little bit more. Who knows but there is still two more days of the draft in the chiefs. Still have five. Four more picks remaining. Perhaps they're going to look to trade back in the second round. Who knows but I found this interesting because when Clyde Edwards layer was aware. I'm sorry we have to really get used to that Clyde Edwards. It's the McColl situation all over again. We're GONNA WE'RE GONNA have to work on that but there was a lot of good players on the board Christian Fulton was on the board. Josh Jones. The tackle out of Houston was on the Board Xavier mckanie. The safety added Alabama's somehow still on the board. There's a tour gross modest the edge from Penn state. A lot of really good football players still remain on the board. I find it fascinating. I wonder I wonder what kind of values are going to be available for the chiefs at the end of the second round. Craig yeah I I mean. There's probably ten defensive backs that we've talked about that we will be comfortable with the chiefs taking in the second round. There's a couple of defensive ends there's a couple of linebackers there's still a lot of these second round wide receivers. You're Dinsdale mims are still there. Michael Pittman Junior still there. There's a lot of players that are going to come off the board here in the second round and the chiefs because of the way that they've set up this season in the needs that they have which are few for twenty twenty can just sit in weight and pick a guy that they know is going to be a good fit for twenty twenty one and baby in twenty twenty. You might see a Logan Wilson. You might see a Camp Dancer. It sixty three these guys that can come in step in and help the chiefs in twenty twenty and still build the depth on the defense. They're jake what kind of wide receivers do you think could be available that uses sixty three? Like who would you want to see them? Kind of take a look at US sixty three. I'm just we're going all offense now. We're just trying to score tech score one hundred. We are leaning into your bit. I mean you you picked running back to thirty two so just tell us three. Clyde at thirty two please. That's what I'm saying like I mean combined off well. This is going to be the bit that I'm going to really start hammering too because I really feel strongly about this and I talked about this on the wives youtube thing that we did. And I I really think that Andy you know who coached breadth far early in his career underneath Ron woolfe and Ron woolfe. Who's in the hall of fame? As a general manager for the Green Bay packers talked about at the end of his career. Having Bret for his biggest regret was not surrounding him with better weapons. And I think Andy is looking at this situation and saying okay now. I have the best quarterback I've had since I'd coach Brett Farve and in the world in general but anyways but but ever what am I gonNA do? I don't WanNa make the same mistake that the packers did with Brett and try and even with Rogers is okay. We got the quarterback knowledge trying to fix the defense. Let's all this high capital on defense to try to have this super well rounded team when it's like why just score more points than everyone score one hundred and I think and I think that's when Andy's honestly doing proved me wrong. His last two picks have been I. His last picks that have been his first picks. I guess let me wasn't a first rounder. But just explosive Athens so I think looking at this team if they're gonNA continue this route with wide receiver. Michael Pittman Juniors might top receiver on the boards still. I doubt he's there but you know he's a big receiver in those guys tend to fall and so maybe he is the guy that I really like as a fit in Kansas City. Is You know those kind of gadget type. Guys that can develop Brian Edwards out of South Carolina's a guy that I know all of us really like Later Yaounde's three Keep an eye on but just specifically tomorrow second and third round Brian Edwards is a name to keep an eye on. He was hurt throughout the process. But he's a very good player. Lynn vowed in junior is another guy that I think is a really good explosive athlete. He's another kind of gadget e type that I've seen Kim stating that offense well and develop into fulltime wide receiver in the meantime An indefinite Do Varney or Texas I per se call my do Varnay but when they pick him now just another name that we can't pronounce So those are three options right there of guys that I think if you just WANNA keep adding explosives athletes Those are some names. Keep an eye on. It's funny we've talked You remember how big the La viscous and not hype was about this time last year. You know coming draft a dude that. Oh man this wide receiver and all of that guy. He might be there at sixty three as well. You know like skill by lever to. He's still miles to hurt. Mandy if if you go back to last year. If he didn't play a snap this year he might have begun already. The people are judging the two thousand eighteen tape so yeah absolutely. He's a great name to keep an eye out and see this little feeds into point here. But we're talking about all these guys. That's a lot of really good players that fit the chief really. Well here's the thing there's still some really good corners on the board to I said Christian Fulton Bryce Halston their trevon digs is sitting there jailing Johnson sitting. There I look I. I don't know when those four going to fall off the board. I'm sure there's going to be a run on linemen still there's GonNa be around tear F. Offensive Line. There's going to be continue to be a run on receiver to like. Maybe the cheese can trade up for one of these guys. Maybe maybe jalen Johnson's sitting there in the fifties and maybe I was throwing this around earlier. Maybe one of those like win. The CHEESE TRADE UP FOR BRUIN speaks they gave up. Pick fifty six and seventy six or eight hundred seventy six. I think for picks forty six and one hundred basically they. They traded up and traded back with one. Pick to try to kind of equalize the value. I wonder if the cheese can't do that in this in tomorrow. And maybe trade sixty three and ninety six. I did the math. It'd probably be something like four. Pick fifty four and one twenty eight something around that range. I'm just that's just rough estimates. That's that's a ballpark. If one of those quarters falls there into the fifties man I'm looking. I'm looking hard at that. I'm looking too hard. If jalen Johnson's in the fifties I am trying my best to get up there. I'm trying to figure out a way to get up there because if you start if you start your draft off with Clyde Edwards Layer. I did it right there. Ed Jalen like if you'd flip those two for me I'd be geeked out. I'd feel even better. That'd be a fantastic start to this trap. Here's the funny one. There hasn't been a safety taken yet. Xavier McCain take rent Jeremy Chen Kyle Duger Antoine field. That run is happening. That run is going to happen in in the second round. But we're sitting in a situation kind of like one thornhill next year or last year where the chiefs might find themselves a sixty three with incredible safety value. Now we've talked about how we would pull the trigger on Xavier mckinney on grant. Del It at thirty two. This might be a one thornhill situation again. I guy that we loved in the first round that fell to the end of the second round chiefs could catch some value there. We know how spags likes to use the safeties now so listen. There are ways to still make an impact on this defense to get better while still adding to the offense Matt Hennessy Akeem Adedeji Moutain Mutai like. There's a lot of really good offense. Interior Offensive Lineman as well amped about tomorrow on Amtrak today. Sorry I really am excited in this draft tomorrow. All right guys I want to. I want us all to go around real quick in just grade the Clyde Edwards emailer pick. And we'll wrap this. Show Up Jake once you start us off. What's your grade on the Clyde Edwards alert pick? Why now I mean. Let's give him an even a plus. I love the pick. I don't care anyone says they're wrong right. I mean he's he's just so tailor-made to fit into that scheme. I just can't think of a better offensive weapon to add to that offense. It's it's like the last piece of the puzzle when it fits perfectly and you can look back and kind of look at it in amazement. I like what they're doing. They're all in for twenty twenty one. The running back is is in full full steam ahead. I'm not looking at twenty twenty two twenty two hundred. Yeah well the Super Bowl will be in twenty one and I like I like that. And it's it's tough to win two super bowls back to back in their position themselves to do that. So if you're positioning yourself to do that with your first pick their. Let me tell you what there's thirty one other NFL franchises. I love being that position and I don't know how you can't then give that pick a great great greg. Now listen my guy. Christian Fulton was still there so I can in good conscience. Give us an A. but I can't give it a B plus the NFL hated for every chief's Fan that you saw. That did not like this. Pick because it was a running back. Take a look in their three more fans of other teams that are pissed off that the chiefs got Clyde Edwards aware. That should tell you that should tell you what people think about him the kind of regard that they hold them in they think that this offense got better and frankly that's a little scary for the rest of the. Nfl is scary. I gave it a B minus Eh. It's not about Clyde words. Learned SLIGHTEST. Because if you've been listening to. Us Talk About Him. If you've been following us on twitter you know. I think about Clyde hours later I love the player. I love the player. I don't know if I love the value of a running back that early. I do think if there's any running back that's going to be able to create enough value or more value. It is him because he has pass catcher traits. That are flat out better than anybody else in this class. And he's going to be one of the best pass catching running in the national football league next year. There's going to be given a lot of opportunity to be put a lot of favorable situations favorable situations to run favorable situations as a pass catcher. Because he's often you're going to be the fourth option or option on the field because the cheese offense is that good. I mean real quick. Sorry need to sidebar here. The cheese are GONNA roll out. Travis Kelsey tyreek Hill. Samuel Walk Ins McCall heartbeat Clyde overs. Scary does terrify. Okay with the Boy Patrick. Mahomes slinging the rockall over the field. Okay big bump the great. They need they need to add some offensive line. Hell that's that's what they need to do around to. That's that's what really out. Hey Matt Matt himse man you keep an eye out keep an eye on Bob Hunt to Robert. Hung out a lot of good players. Lot of good players left guys. Keep an eye on Logan Wilson linebacker out of Wyoming Keep an eye on the corners. I think that's where we're looking at. I'm giving it to be minus. Though I love I love Clyde. Who was there the player wish they could? I wish they could trade back to forty and done. This and I would have been happier. They tried we tried. Yeah they did try so there you go all right that is going to do it for day one recap of the NFL draft. We'll be back tomorrow. With INSTA- breakdowns is two reactions on cheese. "Ken Swanson. This is the AP draft show. This is a live reaction to the chiefs on the first day of draft. Miss giving us a running back. Clyde Edwards layer out of lsu. It's the guy that if they were gonNA take running back is who we wanted and here to help me talk about. Him Is my dear pals. I find him on twitter at Jacob. Morley Jake you're going to quote here for a second. Yeah told you so. I believe I believe on this podcast last week. I was ridiculed on air. And you don't get to check the D. Hams either. But I was also ridiculed off air for suggesting having the audacity to suggest that the chiefs would select running back Clyde Edwards layer out of lsu. Who is a fantastic fit in their offense? And I'll get into why and what I think the chiefs are doing and why I think is really smart. Actually we'll get into that later but yeah you all. Can you know what because I'm right? You're wrong I also on rhyme. I I got two picks right from tonight's draft that really tick people off in September. I said the packer I was like I just suggested. I said your love would be a cool pick for the packers in the first round. Guess what it happened and I definitely have lots of receipts talking. Clyde being for trump into the chiefs so to fan bases who are not super happy about the pics. But I think they're both stellar picks. I think the chiefs fans are starting to be okay with Clyde Edwards aware. I know the analytics community hate it. I believe it multiple F grades. I'll who cares what they have to say. And I'm not even the big fan of the running back in round one now I've just flexing. Okay sorry go crazy. That's all that's to fight him on twitter at barley up. 'cause Jake's to his its own head bragging to introduce Craig Barley hop craig style. Hello Hello I'm excited. I'm excited Listen I thought it was funny. We'll get into some of the breadth. Vh quotes and things like that. But I want to kind of tease this one. He said that the AFC west clearly was trying to get in to attract meat. You know he's trying to turn this into a track meet guys Brett Beach. Just said y'all can't hang with our track meet like Clyde is going to come in and make this a significantly better offense for all the reasons that Kit Ni- talked about yesterday morning when we put out the podcast talking about why running back make sense or Andy. Reid and what he can do so from that regard Liz. Afc West tried to keep up. They are not going to be able to keep up. They got another dynamic weapon. That chiefs did. Yeah here's the thing. I am not a big fan of running back around one. I think we establish that yesterday and I was scared and I was scared on the livestream because I you know I think there's better positions of value that will help the chiefs not just this year but long-term Clyde Edwards Hilar- though what we've maintained for months now if they're going to take one in around one might as well be him might as well be Edwardsville there. And here's why Clyde Edwards Hilar- is the best route runner in this entire in this entire running back class and it's not particularly close and what he was asked to do is reflecting reflective of that client like he was running quarter routes from the slot against Alabama and catching touchdowns he was running a dynamic route. And he's pretty good at it. He's natural what he's got natural hands. He's able to catch the ball away from his frame very comfortable doing that. We haven't even gotten to the running back traits but the run pass rates are very good but the value of the running back traits aren't what people are aren't why he's going to be valuable in Kansas City. I mean they'll help. But he is a dynamic pass catcher from from the running back position and I think that's ultimately is true value. I that's I think ultimately what can kind of help maybe softened the blow of the value of you just make it sound like like it's such a tough pill the swallowed this offense but like I it. It is a little bit but you're right. You're right like this weapon. That's going to allow any run. The whole playbook it may Patrick mahomes better score. Eighty billion points a gay man. This release things. Look I. I don't I don't know if it's that big of a jump but I do think it helps way. Jacob picked a guy too that's GonNa step on the field from day one and be an instant intact starter. That's rare to get take thirty two unless you're picking a running back. But they picked a running back. That is I mean if you would if you would make a running back. A lab Ensued him for Kansas City. The only thing Clyde does not have is at long speed. That's it that's all he doesn't. It doesn't have what is good enough. That's the the Legion. Zoom did not get any zoom ear with him. That's for sure but he's quick. He's quick as lightning. So if you WANNA say Zoom Zoom that way sure but But he's not GonNa not gonNA run away from anyone but I think he's GonNa be that he still GonNa get you. Chunk yardage chunk plays You'll have to just be dependent on PAT on his arm. And even so you could be you know. We don't run the ball. Do Clyde could not carry a game and still be a super impactful player in this offense by catching eight passes and I think I think that's the point like I think that's what you know. I you know I'm not. I'm still going from a value perspective. I'M GONNA I'm GonNA continue to argue. You Know Clyde over its players. Low can't play corner and that's okay. His past catch value will make him a more valuable running back than a lot of other running backs that step onto the field. And that's the thing that I think people need to understand. That people need to hang their hats on from a value perspective. He might he might be able to be more valuable ave running back than other people are accustomed to and why the running back still. Your argument is a little bit different. That's the only caveat I'll add is conversation packers versus cheese game. This year of the players that played in that game was nobody who was the best player on the field that day era because not because they handed the ball to him because they got him in situations where he had advantageous match ups. And he's a good route runner like Clyde Allaire. He is very much that type of player. So if you if you hated seeing Aaron Jones catch one hundred seventy passing chiefs will hold a layers gonNa have some games like that. Here's the funny part. We hated watching. We blamed the linebackers hated. It yelled about the linebackers is one of the reasons why people are going now. You had to draft a linebacker everything like that. It Jake was Davante Adams playing in that game. No so the packers weapons were not great in the end they are joan at the end and Aaron Jones Tore Up. Now you get to put a guy that Andy Reid This this is Great Brett. Vh told Andy Reid is. He admitted this in the press conference after the thank told Andy Reid. I need you to watch Clyde Edwards. He layer because he reminds me of. Brian Westbrook Andy came back and said No. He's better take kit. You the primary greater for running backs I see happy dance over there. Who did you player? Comp Clyde Edwards. He later too so I'm just getting ready to stretch. I'm flexing compared Clyde Edwards ealier to Brian Westbrook. The Casey draft guide is a good day. Today high fits a player that meets brought up or having a good day over here a Casey draft headquarters. I mean if you think of Clyde as an offensive weapon and not as a running back just think of him as another offense of weapon maybe it becomes more palatable to you. He's not going to run the ball thirty times a game. This isn't John Taylor. You don't need to get him. Handoffs really get him going. How many times it Kareem Hunt? Carry The ball thirty times for crying out. Did he ever? I'm not sure I will look that up. And we'll get back to that in a minute. But this is like honestly. This is the closest thing that she ever GonNa get to a slot. Receiver is really what that is Jack. I mean that she's don't really go grab guys that are slot specific but Clyde definitely has some of the stuff that you're GonNa want in a in a in a slot receiver. I mean like he's GonNa run some of the routes that you typically see slot receivers run but my guys out here running corner outs. Do I mean like he is like I mean? I'm telling you this guy's route three is more dynamic than you're used to with running backs and and I mean he runs the angle route h post route Texas route. Whatever you guys call it. He runs it as good as anybody in this draft class the next evolution of NFL offenses is having a guy in your backfield that is essentially a wide receiver. That can take hand-offs and the chiefs are going to be at the forefront of that because they already have such an explosive offense in general and now they have a guy that can do that like they might not This year so you're saying that it's time to cut Dustin Colquitt. That's what Jacob Marley said. Kareem Hunt is Kareem. Kareem Hunt didn't have thirty carries and again by the way he had twenty nine a couple times. Yeah anyways content. That was my point is that that's I think we're GONNA see the NFL. Start to go but cheese or leading the sharks. You know when you talk about the NFL offenses in two thousand twenty. The way the game is played right now the way the rules are right now where physicality is kind of be taken out of the game and you want guys. I can separate you guys. That can space out defenses. And then you want a guy that can distribute the chiefs. Have all of that. The only piece that they were missing is it was running back piece and they just got it. Yeah and that's not to say the Damian Williams wasn't good player. He's still a good player. Still GonNa get to this team. I mean He. He's a nice speed option here. But here's the funny part. We're how many minutes into this podcast. We're not talking about him as a runner which he is. I mean. He's a fantastic runner. He's got excellent vision. He's got ridiculous agility. He's perfect for the chiefs zone. Heavy SCHEME HE SLIP. Jig said it. He literally perfect Andy. Reid one offense. I thought today he's tailor-made. He is tailor-made for Andy. Reed's offense he has better lateral agility than anyone on the chiefs roster anyone on the chiefs roster for several years. He has better vision than just about anybody in the last several years. Frankly I mean he's not the most like he's explosive through the whole but he lacks the second gear. He does not have that second gear. That's it's kind of evidence by his his forty time and you look at some of that stuff. I mean. He didn't test great. But when you watch them on the field rare agility. I mean rare a very good vision. I WANNA call him. Visionary it's not. It's not rare good. Good good vision. It's above average vision. I mean think of this way Clyde at Lsu you got to run against a lot of light boxes because that offense is ridiculous. It's a pro style offense to and he went for eighteen hundred scrimmage yards. He gets to settle right in to another pro style offense where he's going to see a lot of light boxes again. He can't be immediately successful. This is not going to be that big of a transition because his game is predicated on speed it's predicated on his vision and agility which are going to translate immediately O. N. contact Bali in contact balanced. Good contact balance. Yes we're going to take a break and we're going to kind of look and reset the Board Talk About Tomorrow. Talk About for our today. Actually it's going to be today for you for listening to this talk about the Friday draft. How it looks for the chiefs and what kind of things they can address right after.

"But when I think of Clyde Edwards aware obviously we think of LSU this past season you think of ed Orgeron called tiger and you also think of Joe borrow the Clyde Edwards to layer in Alabama game I want to say it was a third and ten thirty fifteen I want to say thirteen ten and he picked up probably fifteen yards on the play for a first down and he was trucking people left and right going up against I love them all Clyde Edwards a layer I'm always going to be in the NFL but to me what I saw in college it was damn impressive either he's five foot seven two I mean your eyes aren't deceiving it without their trucking the Alabama defense at five foot seven guy almost doesn't make sense the prospect first of all running back as difficult as you get that obviously what is the value of running back even in the game right now you're taking a running back on the most prolific pass offense we've ever seen in college football which is a little bit of a cheap because of course there are running lanes from him but in the same family watching you think he is out of control spectacular and again all levels of competition you're right in the Alabama game he was great all throughout the calls will play out he was great he's clutch he can catch the ball out of the backfield is actually a good route runner backfield with great hands and we need to make clutch catches already and then the number one thing with them absolutely lateral agility and explosion this guy can do that little levy on bell you know that that little setup mover easyjet kind of square to the line and then it moves into into the correct call Ellis you given some interesting assignments where they kinda let him relax a little bit and he had absolutely no problem it is vision taking up the hole and a movie with a hole on the con side is not really a huge break away speed is not really a home run threat and then it just kind of a question of you know he's five foot seven he came out of you know that that was you passing offense is here really a three down back because it shows you that he actually is a three down starting running back in the NFL J. one and I'm gonna go with that that's why I ended up ranking on here I actually think that's what yes I don't like over and running back at all and I'm not gonna put any I don't think with a first round grade in the class but before that I'm going to have an effect around all really good players and you know quite a regular certainly knows that also you mention some of what he could do coming out of the backfield not only running the football but the pass catching ability as well two hundred and fifteen rush attempts last year over fourteen hundred yards sixteen rushing touchdowns and at fifty five receptions for four hundred and fifty three yards and a touchdown we know who he is but it's almost as if he's a secret just with everyone that we look at LSU's offense you forget about him even when you watch him he clearly makes a presence just with all the wide receivers and obviously the quarterback that they had this past year at Ellis you even some of the fence supplies the Caleb on chase on who we're probably gonna get to coming up when you get into your your top thirty of this top fifty prospect profiles big board so is there a player count you have one for Clyde Edwards a layered defense it's really hard because I'm super contact running back at our office three down running backs don't accept you know those guys are third down running back or step back so I honestly my conscious in the way you move it a little bit Darren Sproles which is incredibly kind and they're different types of players but I think they have that that similar trade where they both can go zero to sixty in just now I mean it's crazy it's almost like they're being controlled with a video game controller their ideology and their ability to burst accelerate stop first xcelerated can change direction first yet again is just stunning and I'm not sure that the another player who is as much of a joystick type of running back at that size hi Darren Sproles but I think there is a chance to be a much better more complete running back in there as well so it seems like an almost two kind confident the same time the potential there if it could be an even more well rounded player he has that clutch gene I'm not saying necessarily the style but just with the pretty much you could do everything and ever so there's a better runner than James White and James White is that matter on receiving the football but just that clutch gene some of that you overlook but you know he shows up in the big moments I could throw James white out there just in that regard that's an outstanding call actually like that better all right the band great stuff we will talk to you tomorrow and see the next four or five names is that we give you on the prospect profiles it is exact yelp show on CBS sports radio the band keeps on talking about exploding through the hole and being a long and strong that may make you chuckle if you have a juvenile mind like myself well anyway it's eighteen to the top of the hour right here on CBS sports radio will take a five minute break and when we come back on the show we got to get to a little Bryan Colangelo talk we could never stop talking about Bryan Colangelo believe incorporate Barbara both Cheney into the conversation as well we'll.
