"I'm not giving you guys any more time to get more players to play with me. I'm lee but he had. He had patients. I had lemon have years as a lot of patients make about it. So so bill. The team but the drought. Did you a little loyalty a little patients. But don't let it ruin your entire career is what i would say. Good advice you get to see. How much input did you have on your destination back then. A lot of input on houston is where i'm from That's the only place. I would have gone because one they were good. They had won the championship in ninety four. They had a little discord on their team. I knew they really wanted me. And so that that played a part in it You know when you want it and then they know you can make a difference and luckily things worked out with. Went back wanna championship right away. Two years later we got berkeley and that was a whole other era. So if you could if you had the latitude back then that guys have now and part of this is just shorter. Contracts part of it. The contracts are so just stupidly ridiculously rich that you can afford take some chances and maybe even sacrifice a year of guaranteed money like i have a lot of freedom and on various levels. If you could have back then said you know what in the summer of ninety three. I'm forming my own team in free agency. Some other guys are you could do what lebron bosh and wade did back in the day like who. Would you have formed your your hypothetical super team with a great question. I mean so many great players today. But i think you have to have some entanglement. You can't be up front runner but but you know just think about all the great players of that time would have been easy to get together and say hey guys. Let's go put the team together and try to win. But that's not the way the game should be played. I mean these franchises invest a lot of money and selecting the personnel. And if they select you. They have full faith and confidence in youth. They select you. I you should give them everything you have. I truly believe that now. The don't let him ruin your entire career if they don't put good pieces of is their job to try to put good pieces around you and everyone knows it's easy to see you know if you've got to have a chance to win or not. I remember one year. I'm in portland. And this is just one instance. And i'm sure they had good intentions. But i'm we're playing against the lakers. In the first round of the playoffs. I think nineteen eighty six or seven. One can remember that far back our but they had four five number one picks on their team korean magic worthy michael townsend and probably make it. And then you have guys. Like michael cooper barscott. Ac green on their team all these great plants right. I i got three guys. Ten day contracts on my team colwell jones. I get omaris lucas. As like how how we having. So you know. Instances like that. And that's when you go. Hey guys you gotta get some talent here. You know those things happen though. But that's why talent and management management is everything when you got good management. Those players will stay if you got incompetent management year after year. I mean you have to be there you have to know but if you look at his stats he was always competitive back back then but he played philly and boston with the toast of the east but atlanta was always a team that was threatening walk in atlanta and so give him credit for being a winner and he elevated his team. He's just didn't have enough talent around it like back there we could say. I'm just going to go play with lakers. 'cause i think i can get a ring. We that wasn't hurt back there. The jenner bandages made those decisions while so while we're still discussing the fifty versus seventy five so one way of doing this was take the fifty s gospel keep it and then just add twenty five more from the twenty five years since then although it's not even twenty five years more like thirty something because there are guys who had only been in the league. The league convened a blue ribbon panel to select the seventy five greatest players in nba history. It will be rolled out in three segments. Starting tuesday night opening night. We'll get the first group of twenty five during tnt's broadcast starting at six eastern time on wednesday. It's espn's turn and my good friend. Maliki andrews launching her new show. Congrats melita that will be at three. Pm eastern time and then the final twenty five players will come out thursday back on tnt at six eastern time my guest today and here to discuss all. This is a member of the fiftieth anniversary team. And i'm pretty confident he'll be on the seventy fifth to he is clyde drexler and he serving as an ambassador for the league for the seventy fifth anniversary season.
